In 1954, this racist policy perpetuated anti-Mexican sentiment throughout the nation. "Operation Wetback" upended the lives of tens of thousands of Mexicans – many of whom were born in the United States. While this mass deportation took place more than 50 years ago, we can still feel the impact of this program reflected in immigration rhetoric today. . . . #PulsoTalk #Latinos #Hispanic #Culture #Latinas #History #News #LatinoCulture #HispanicCulture #LatinoPride #LatinosBeLike #LatinoPower #LatinoHistory #LatinoNews #MexicanAmericanHistory #MexicanAmerican #Immigration #ImmigrantStories #Immigrants #Immigrant #ImmigrantRights #ImmigrantsWelcome #HumanRights (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChCqxeTumhr/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Email to State Reps
I was just cleaning out my google Drive, as one does, and found this letter I wrote about a month ago:
September 15, 2020
To Whom It May Concern,
I, like most Americans, were shocked to discover that Mass Hysterectomies are being viciously carried out on immigrant women. I was quite distressed on hearing this information, as I am a woman. Due to the thorough history of the United States practicing Eugenics on Black, Indigenous, and Hispanic people in this country (as well as the well documented concentration camps after WWII of Asian Americans), I am incredibly alarmed to find out that this practice is not only alive and well, but it is in my own backyard with T Dodd Hutto.
I do not think it is ok for my tax dollars to go to pay the salaries and benefits of people who are (1) taking away any woman's right to KEEP HER UTERUS, (2) to mother her children, (3) and to be mentally and physically CARED FOR, instead of punished, abused, and raped. It is not okay, and I do not care where she is from, she is still a woman.
In light of that, I have some questions about the T Dodd Hutto “Residential” Center? (It’s a concentration camp, in my view):
Are there any mass hysterectomies being performed on the women held in this center?
How are rape allegations being reported? To whom would a detainee make a report? And what happens after a report is made?
If a woman becomes pregnant at T Dodd Hutto, what would happen to her?
How are you supporting children in this camp who may have learning disabilities and a neurodiverse brain set?
How are you educating children that are within your care?
How is the staff protecting the children and women that are in these camps from Covid?
How many detainees have died from Covid? Were their families notified? What was done with their bodies?
How do family members report incidents of these camps reported from a family member into staff? How are those handled? Do you have a bi-lingual person to translate?
How are you ensuring there is no discrimination occurring on the ground in these camps? How are the facilities trained in diversity? Is it required to know Spanish?
Why does this facility even exist? What purpose for society does it serve? And why is there one in my county?
Thank you for answering these questions. I want to make sure that before I go and protest, I know all of the information so that I can hold well-researched and thoughtful conversations about the concentration camps.
Best,
Antiracist Karen****

48% of workers in the meat, dairy, and egg industries are part of a particularly vulnerable group with limited employment options.
These workers are constantly surrounded by animals who are fighting for their lives, putting workers at risk of injury.
According to psychologists, the stressful and dangerous environment of a slaughterhouse sets workers up for the development of pathological sadism. Higher levels of crime, including violent and sexual offenses, are reported in areas with slaughterhouses. Workers are prone to higher incidents of domestic violence, anxiety, and drug or alcohol abuse.
Nobody should have to make a living by killing.
Support the movement to stop animal agriculture’s exploitation of both animals and workers by going vegan and shopping cruelty-free.

Passover and Easter both remind us to welcome the stranger; "When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself”, "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”   We always remember that unless you are an indigenous person, we are a nation of immigrants; this collaboration with Kelly Holohan supports RAICES (pssst. select colors are on SALE).  While this pandemic continues, those seeking refuge in this country are more vulnerable than ever.  We received this note from RAICES this week. "At RAICES, we have defended the human rights of our most vulnerable populations for over 30 years. In the midst of the COVID-19 health crisis that we face as a nation and as a world, that spirit of service has remained thanks to your generosity. Since the pandemic took hold of this nation a month ago, there have been nearly 15,000 donations (and counting). Those 15,000 individual reminders of our purpose have allowed us to pivot in a moment of great need for the immigrant population –– tailoring our social services for the demands of the moment, guiding our clients through a legal system that fails to prioritize health and humanity, and advocating for the closure of detention centers ripe for the spread of the coronavirus through our comprehensive #FreeThemAll campaign... We recognize the extraordinary circumstances that prevent any of us from knowing with clarity what the future brings or how to plan ahead. Donations make a difference, but it is your advocacy on behalf of migrant communities that can transform ours into a compassionate society. That advocacy is necessary now more than ever as we fight to #FreeThemAll in the face of this pandemic." ✌🏼💜 #adamsnest #raices #raicestexas #immigration #immigrants #immigrationreform #immigrantrights #immigrantsong #immigrantlife #lovemeltsice #keepfamiliestogether #freethemall https://www.instagram.com/p/B-zQ4HVBRNm/?igshid=p6e64q62v5lr

How about we become mindful of the people who are actually going through the struggles of thinking "are they coming for me?" or " when will they come for me? " And stop making memes out of a situation as serious as this one. It's disgusting that it somehow could be turned into a joke. How do you think? How could it ever be funny?? People are suffering. My heart is with you all.
