Ideas and feedback welcome. #The core idea behind this AU is that LWJ goes to study with the Yunmeng Jiang sect instead of JC and WWX going to Cloud Recess #But why? Well I imagine Lan Xichen set it up to give LWJ a challenge (more social than skill based) and LWJ rose to it (begrudgingly) #Sort of a 'You've mastered so many Lan techniques but Other Sects have styles that are worth learning.' set up. #Lan Qiren agrees mostly on the basis that...well it's LWJ. Yunmeng Jiang is unruly but LWJ is beyond that riff-raff. He'll rise above it. #This is the story of a boy who thrives on routine and rules spending time in a place that is his apparent antithesis. #Also it is so warm there. He is used to it being cold and what do you MEAN just take off some of my layers? #I just want to see him struggle and flail in many situations. And get him in Jiang Purple. Is that so wrong of me? #(Soaking wet JC is part of my 'JC was born to swim; forced to hold a sword' agenda. “Your welcome was rather disappointing, Jiang-zongzhu,” Jin Zixun calls mockingly. “Even your husband here failed to make us feel at home.” The obvious baiting is answered with a dangerously still, silent courtyard. Jin Zixun throws a glance at the three cultivators keeping Lan Wangji kneeling, chin tipped in a wordless order.

The blade hooked beneath Lan Wangji’s throat digs deeper, drawing more blood and he knows without looking that the red on the front of his robes is growing. Still no response. Lan Wangji can feel his wife’s presence, along with a handful of other qi signatures he recognizes as Jiang senior disciples. And he prays she doesn’t come out.

Jin Zixun’s grin is feral. “Very well.” But before the blade slides home and ends it all, the doors are flung wide and Jiang Cheng emerges. A silent breath escapes him. He should have known his Wanyin would not stand by. It is not in her nature.

Hair unbound and eyes flickering with Zidian’s energy, she looks like a wrathful goddess of lightning. Even where he’s forced to kneel, Lan Wangji can feel the electricity thrumming through his wrecked meridians, thinned to the point of snapping. Sandu’s naked blade gleams wickedly in one hand. And in the other, she carries their son.

She is not like his mother, bowing her head with furious acceptance of her fate and allowing her sons to be dragged away from her. She is not like her own mother, vicious in her pride and arrogance, blind to the needs of her children.

Jiang Cheng would do the impossible for those she loves. That is her strength.

Lan Wangji knows that there is no safer place for their son than in her arms.

Who are they to her? Who are they to each other? Who are they as individuals? #My theory is that they were initially servant girls YZY took in and trained (hence the whip proficiency) #I also very much love the idea of this double standard; that YZY has these surrogate 'children' she favours over her own #to shadow JFM's affection for WWX (child who is not his own). #Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli just keep losing!!! #Anyways I just think we should hoist jinzhu and yinzhu up more. I could see Jiang Cheng taking in demonic cultivators and saving them, not out of the goodness of his heart, but out of spite.

Like every time he convinces someone to stop their demonic cultivation, he cackles, and says "Take that Wei Wuxian! Point 1 for me and point ???? for you. There's one less person being piece-of-shit demonic cultivator like you." with the added bonus of now having an additional cultivator in his ranks.

and then we get the angst of "if i can save these people, why couldn't i save you?"

one of the canon-adjacent modern au tropes i would like to see more often is the jiang family running an orphanage but kind-of-almost adopting wwx themselves while also treating him as an unpaid tutor for the other kids. jiang cheng thinks he's an orphan too up until the day he asks his mom if his parents died or if they just abandoned him and she yells at him and says he's grounded for an entire year or until he learns to appreciate his family
