If you don't mind, may I ask you what happened with klance because i see them with zukka tag and everyone says they're glad it didn't turn out that way?

hoo boy. where do I even begin. spoilers for Voltron I guess?? but I don’t think anyone cares at this point.

so Voltron comes out in like 2016 I think? and everyone immediately fixates on Lance (smooth-talking, flirtatious, blue/water motif) and Keith (hotheaded, estranged from family, red/fire motif) as a couple (thus the ship name Klance). Klance gets HUGE. It becomes Tumblr fandom’s top ship of the year in 2017 and 2018. everyone who is into Voltron has an opinion on Klance. most people either love it or tolerate it, but some people absolutely hate it. There’s a lot of fighting in the fandom over Klance vs Sheith (Shiro x Keith) vs Allurance (Lance x Allura). this is Not Great obviously but it stays mostly within the fandom.

it starts to get worse when it leaves the fandom. people begin using meet and greets and panels as an opportunity to ask writers and voice actors about their ships. which, yes, this often happens at cons, but this happens at every single panel at every single con (usually multiple times). people begin harassing writers and voice actors on their social medias over the ships. I remember there being blacklists for the people who worked on the show that didn’t support Klance.

the worst of Klance doesn’t happen until the very end of Voltron. season 8 drops in december of 2018. after the blatant queerbaiting that happened in season 7 (basically they announced an openly gay character months before the season came out, then gave him two minutes of screen time before killing him off), fans were hopeful that the creators would learn from their mistakes. spoiler alert! they didn’t. Lance and Allura starts dating in the first episode with basically no buildup (she had spent the last seven seasons blatantly hating him). then, Allura dies in the last episode and Lance spends the rest of his life pining after her. nothing that happened between Lance and Keith is wrapped up or even touched on by the creators. on top of this, the final season is just poorly written and there are so many loose ends that are never tied up. there was a ton of fallout that happens after and I’ve blocked most of it of my memory. THEN: receipts come out that writers were trying to set up something between Lance and Keith from season one and the showrunners ruled against it in later seasons. this only makes everyone angrier.

tl;dr: their relationship was set up in the first seasons of the show and received no payoff while attention was directed at other (straight) relationships that had no chemistry or really reason to be there.
