Loki’s Queen, One Shot

Thanks for the prompts. Hope you both like it!

vicksaturn submitted: Okay, so I have a friend, she's mute, and she wanted to read a fic where she can actually feel... included, you know what I mean? It could be something romantic with Tom or Loki

red-fish-from-a-pond submitted: He was the cruel king, the lord of darkness and evil, but inside of his palace, there was an oasis of piece of heaven and beauty, full of gardens and art, and in the center, his kidnapped queen, the one he would burn the world for.

When King Loki first laid eyes upon the Princess of another realm, he knew he just had to have her. He was much stronger than their King, so had easily overpowered them and kidnapped their Princess. Now, she was his Queen to be.

At first, he had been surprised upon returning with her to discover that she was mute. He had thought she was just being disobedient and rude to him, but when he learned the truth, he started to think it would be quite nice having a woman who wouldn’t talk back at him. Who couldn’t say no or argue.

But over time, he began to fall for his kidnapped Queen. He made her teach him sign language, so he was able to know what she wanted to say. He wanted to hear what she had to say. And enjoyed conversing with her very much.

To begin with she had been terrified of him, then angry that he had taken her. But when his softer side began to show, she started to find it wasn’t so bad being his to be Queen. He didn’t treat her badly, and within the walls of the palace was utter beauty.

The gardens were large and filled with beautiful flowers and shrubs. She could get lost within them for hours each day, it was so vast. Beautiful displays of art were strewn all through the palace, by multitudes of artists. All costing a fortune, because of course it was only the best for Loki’s Queen.

Then there was the huge library, filled with so many books, she would never get through them all in a single lifetime.

Loki discovered that she enjoyed it when he would just read to her, she liked listening to his voice, when it was nice and soft for her. Not so much when he was roaring at civilians or his army.

Some would say she had Stockholm syndrome, and she wasn’t really sure herself to be honest. But either way, she was content and happy with where she was. Now, anyway. It had taken her some time to adjust and to trust the ruthless King. But she saw the side of him that no one else ever did.

He was super protective of her. If anyone spoke ill of her or even just looked at her for too long, he would have their head for it.

After a long day of ruling his Kingdom, Loki retired to his chambers to find his Queen reading quietly by the fireplace. He stalked over to her and put his hands on her shoulders, leaning down to kiss the top of her head.

She looked up and smiled at him.

How was your day? She signed to him.

‘Tedious as ever, darling.’ He hummed and walked around the sofa to sit next to her, wrapping his arm around her to pull her into him.

She smiled and snuggled into him. He gently stroked her arm, leaving goosebumps in his trail.

‘I’ve organised something special for tonight.’ He said softly.

What is it? She signed, looking at him curiously.

‘If I told you, then it wouldn’t be a surprise.’ He chuckled and dug his fingers into her side, making her squirm and laugh, he saw her shoulders moving.

Fair point.

‘You’ll just have to have some patience, my dear.’ He hummed.

His surprise that night was a romantic picnic outside in the garden, next to the little pond with a small waterfall in the middle. It was her favourite place in the whole palace gardens. He used his Seidr and set up some candles to set a nice lighting upon them.

Loki had never felt it before, a longing within his heart for someone. He loved her, so much. He just didn’t want to admit it really. Part of him wished he had her in different circumstances, that he hadn’t just taken her. But he couldn’t look weak to anyone else, he had to keep up his façade. To keep everyone in line.

She seemed content and happy with him. Even initiated contact and intimacy with him now, even after a rocky start. But he needed to know if she truly wanted to stay or not. To be with him.

‘My darling…’ Loki picked up her hands and looked deep into her eyes. ‘I have never apologised for what I did to you. Taking you away from your home, your family.’ He said with true regret, she could see it in his eyes.

‘I love you, so much. But I won’t keep you here any longer if you do not truly wish to be here.’ He said as calmly and steady as he could. But when he felt her trying to tug her hands out of his, he panicked and it was evident on his face that he thought the worst.

But when she got her hands free, she started signing to him.

I need my hands to speak, remember. Silly! She smiled at him.

Loki let out a deep breath and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.

I was scared, Loki. At first. But I’ve gotten to know the real you. I would like to see my family again, but I want to remain with you.

Loki’s heart began to swell. He crawled over to close the distance between them and cupped her face in his hands as he kissed her deeply. She smiled against his kiss and pushed gently on his chest. He leaned back on his heels to see her signing I love you.

‘And I love you, my Queen.’ He playfully wrestled her down onto the picnic mat, so they were lying together on their sides, with their arms around each other.

He gently played with her hair while she rubbed his back in circles, both so content with one another.

Loki knew there and then that he had to make it official that she was his Queen. He wanted her right by his side, for everyone to see. And he expressed that to her.

She moved onto her back a bit so she could show Loki what she was saying.

I don’t think many will take kindly to a mute Queen. I was never going to be more than a Princess.

Loki stroked her cheek with the back of his hand. ‘They have no choice in the matter. I won’t ever have anyone say anything bad about you, and I will make sure that they all know the consequences for speaking bad of their Queen.’

She smiled and put her hand over his. Even though she was more than capable of standing up for herself, it was kind of nice that he wanted to look out for her.

‘You need not worry, darling. You’re mine and I will always protect you.’

This is now my favourite scene in the entire MCU, and you can't convince me otherwise.

He has literal tears in his eyes; he had no idea if he would make it, but he still took the risk just to save his friends, and look at him now! An actual selfless hero and one of, if not the most powerful being in the entire MCU! Frigga would be so proud ♡♡♡

During the holiday season, Mobius wasn’t as lonely as usual. He had met a man who always flirted with him.

—

“Oh, look there’s mistletoe” he looks up grinning at the red orbs as he steps closer to Mobius.

As Mobius looks up, he sees nothing. It was gone.

He laughs. “There’s nothing there.”

The man looks up confused. “But… I swear—”

Mobius nods smiling. “I know. Look, I gotta go, but thank you for the offer.”

—

As Mobius walks home alone, he thinks out loud, “You don’t have to worry y’know.”

Snowflakes flutter down and pepper kisses on his face.

Loki smiles.

It troubles me when fans find Loki in his own tv series "out of character". Since the first Thor movie, Loki has shown a certain sweetness, protectiveness, and level-headedness that was overcome and eventually self-suppressed by rage and tragedy. He didn't have an environment in which he could thrive and, in Frigga's words, succeed at being who he truly is.

Loki desperately needed a support system outside his immediate family. That support system simply couldn't have been built on Asgard because of:

1. Odin's political machinations, including the intentional creation of an environment rife with sibling rivalry and blatant favoritism.

2. The racist if not xenophobic views of Asgardians.

3. The inherent masculine-dominant, warrior society culture of Asgard.

To break Loki out of his self-destructive patterns, it took the empathy of 1 brainwashed and memory-wiped TVA analyst to rightly recognize that Loki as a person has incredible potential and that he could actively do something about it. That Mobius uses this reasoning for the advantage of the TVA (then under HWR's helm) is a plot point I'll discuss later, but the fact still stands: Loki was given a second chance to be who he really is because of the choice Mobius made to intervene. Loki would have been pruned before he would have had the opportunity to meet Sylvie, B-15, Casey, and OB. This is fact.

Mobius literally drops everything--the case he's actively investigating--to intervene. The fact a minuteman immediately reports the variant of Loki he is most interested in has been taken into custody suggests that Mobius has been planning this intervention for some time.

Some fans hate Mobius for his treatment of Loki in the first episode. It is, indeed, manipulative, condescending, and to a certain extent, emotionally abusive. I'm not denying any of this, but from a narrative perspective, Mobius, to be a fully well-rounded character, necessarily must have his own flaws and personal conflicts to battle. Loki's evolution as a character, and thus his positive impact on others, would be missing an emotional beat of mutual reciprocation otherwise. That emotional beat pays off in every episode of S2, culminating in the final scene of the final episode. This is to say nothing of the likelihood that Loki would not have been receptive to any form of gentleness at that point in time to begin with.

Crucially, Mobius gets Loki to admit that his villainous persona is exactly that: an illusion constructed in a bid for control. Some viewers might interpret this scene as a shortcut for getting Loki to behave "out of character" by S1E2, but Thor 2 proves otherwise:

This scene with Thor demonstrates that Loki has a high pain tolerance and is adept at hiding pain. His need to mask his vulnerability, and how that vulnerability is intrinsically tied with the misplaced shame of who he is, resonates deeply with queer, people of color, immigrant, colonized, and adopted fans, many of whom have intersectional lived experiences (including myself). I believe it is for this reason that so many of us are desperate for blatant representation in mainstream entertainment, and to shame us for the sin of hoping is disturbing.

But I digress. Frigga, Thor, and now Mobius are among the few who can see through Loki's deception. That deception has the unfortunate effect of hurting not only innocent civillians but his loved ones and himself (closeting, internalized racism).

Once Loki is able to drop that persona through admission, however, he is able to relax and be himself in the TVA. And in being himself, Loki is consequently able to love himself, which manifests through loving Sylvie. S1 shows Loki holding her up on a romantic pedestal: he chases after her, he sings a song for her, he wants her to be okay. He loves her, yes, and though it appears she does not reciprocate (in my opinion, your mileage might vary), Sylvie does love Loki enough back to buy him a drink and counsel him about what he really wants. This scene is critical in Loki's development in the same way Mobius sheds light on his potential to be whoever he wants.

Both Mobius and Sylvie are integral for Loki to arrive at his turning point, his ultimate sacrifice. Loki loves Sylvie. He therefore chooses to not kill her. Killing her, moreover, would not solve the issue of free will. Sylvie is right in believing free will, and thus the multiverse, is right and necessary. Sylvie's moral question and Loki sparing her life, answers Mobius's belief that Loki can be whoever he wants.

On the other side of this coin, watching Mobius in the final scene, hearing Mobius whisper, "Let time pass..." answers Sylvie's question of what Loki wants, and what he want more deeply than not being alone is for his friends, most especially Mobius (whom he also loves and cares for most, to LIVE.

The series ends with only 2 characters heartbroken with the outcome of Loki's heroism, which Mobius knew existed within him from the beginning. He saw those little but important moments: Loki comforting his brother, Loki protecting Jane, Loki giving up his life to buy Thor time, and so much more, he saw and he knew Frigga's words were right.
