Kuelan Nguyen and her husband Jacques Higelin. When Iggy Pop and David Bowie met her, composed "China Girl", a song that Iggy included in his album "The idiot" (1977). David Bowie included the song on his 1983 album "Let's Dance."

Kuelan Nguyen, the China Girl of the song (though she is Vietnamese).

The girl who appears in Bowie's video is Geeling Ching, New Zealander. She was 23 years old and a waitress at a cafe in Sydney, Australia, when she was chosen to star in the video. Geeling said the video and the brief romance she had with Bowie in the 1980s were like a surreal dream that changed her life.
