liam lawson what did we expect? it's ferrari, and that strategy was a shit one, even i know that. charles had been leading for 35/50 laps and they wanted him to let carlos through? who was down in p6? yuki tsunoda ferrari has shit for brains pierre gasly and it's not like carlos would've been able to make it past checo, oscar, danny, and max to get the win. in the end, lando and alex overtook him, alex who's in a williams! you would've given me a few more laps and i could've overtaken him.

Many thanks to @ghostlypawn for posting their audio of Hadestown on the West End :) Keep in mind these are from a preview performance and the production wasn't finalized until Feb 21st, so things may have been altered further since then.

(Note: I think whether you like this change is entirely dependent on your feelings on Broadway's changes to Epic III. In Working On a Song, an early draft of this new verse can be found with Anais' commentary that her intent was to simplify the Epic so that it became a simple gift of empathy as opposed to the intricate poetry and lyricism of NYTW's Epic, something she couldn't quite finish in time for Broadway's opening. It seems like she and Orpheus might have finally finished their song.)

Boss "No Boundaries" Ton

All these Only Friends kids are toxic. They are friends for a reason. They ALL like to control people through sex (yes, Mew too) cause birds of a feather flock together and all that jazz.

Top should be the antagonist, but as much as I dislike Top's cockiness, he has proven he respects boundaries . . . as long as they get him to his ultimate goal, so he isn't toxic. We know who he is, and his intentions are clear.

But Boston the Hunter?

That man is a God damn problem.

As a self-admitted slut, I'm not slut-shaming him. Boston can snatch up all the dick he wants like this is a game of Pokémon Go at its peak in 2016 and he has to collect them all. That's not the issue. I want him to be a toxic slut. The problem is the way he goes about it.

He is a predator.

The very first scene we see Boston in introduced him as such. From the colored bracelets, Boston knew this man was taken, yet that didn't matter to him. The man was open to a threesome, but look at how Boston corners him. They are in a tight space for more intimacy, and Boston puts his arms on both sides of the man. He can't run. And Boston doesn't let up. He gets closer into the man's personal space, and his eyes never leave his target.

It's a club. The guy is into it. Boston's approach could easily be dismissed.

But this is a pattern.

Boston corners people, gets them in tight spaces, and doesn't give them the option to leave.

He is aggressive.

Because this is about control.

And he views sex as an extension of that control.

Because when he is questioned, Boston becomes more aggressive.

Boston's needs override everyone else's. When Top told him no in the shower, he told Top he wanted it, then pushed him.

There is a clear boundary there. Boston's hand is leaning on it. But he doesn't care. He forces his way past it.

Even when Boston does give the illusion of options, he still forces the other person to accept what he wants.

Nick told him "fuck buddies" yet . . .

Boston doesn't accept Nick's answer because Boston doesn't respect boundaries. He pushes past them to show that he is the one in control of the situation. Then, he makes the disrespect clear by calling Nick a name he knows bothers Nick since he shared that he was bullied for his hair when he was younger.

He is a predator because he feeds on people's weaknesses. He knows what makes them vulnerable and he pounces on it, which is why he is willing to throw his friends' tense relationship under the bus because this isn't just about Top's weakness being Mew.

But about Ray's weakness being Mew since Boston wants to bring down Mew by any means necessary, so he is making sure to corner him and get him trapped on both sides. He is controlling this.

Boston's eyes don't leave his prey. He is laser-focused to the point of obsession and even collects photos of conquests like trophies.

I cracked a joke that Boston was the devil, but

Him and his trophies reside in red flag hell, so it makes sense that Mew, a person who controls through sex with boundaries, will be the one to create the biggest barrier for a predator who respects no boundaries.

Which is why he is willing to drag everyone down with him.

Boston is dangerous because his doesn't have limits when trying to gain control.

Everything is fair game to him.

The F1 grid watched intensely. You didn't need to over take, already in P1 with your trophy secured. But you did anyways, passing drivers one by one till you once more made it to the top of the grid. "Phenomenal performance by Seventeen, securing her Win once more."

Daniel Riccardo, Max Verstappen and and Carlos Sainz had stayed over to watch the F2 race, Crossing Paths once more with the all too famous masked driver. Jumping out of your car, you're greeted with your team shouting your number over and over as they hugged and kissed your famous black helmet. "Seventeen? Who names their child a number?" Carlos asked leaning on the edge watching.

"I don't think that's her real name, mate." Daniel commented taking a sip of the redbull can. "It's not, she doesn't use her real name. You can say it's like a . . . What do you call it? For superheroes?"

"Code name?" "Yeah, codename." Max nodded, his eyes trained on you as you did your post race duties and podium celebration. "She's scary." Carlos shivered standing straight ready to leave.

"She's nice." Max mumbled watching as you passed by. He gave you a small wave, you returning it hesitantly. An unconscious smile crept on his face, a little blush dusting his cheeks.

"You like her?" Daniel whispered teasingly, making the teenage boy frown in denial. "She's just a good driver. I- I don't really care." He folded his arms glaring at the older man.

2016 — Qubec, Canada

"And that is ferrari's reserve driver, and apparent F2 champion, seventeen, defending Vettel from Riccardo." Making the Canadian grand Prix so early into the season was a mistake. It was raining heavily in Montreal, and heavy slush was expected sometime during the race.

You could barely see, relying on instinct only as you took the turns and the curves. Your heartbeat was in your ears and you could feel it in your mouth as you continued to defend your temporary teammate from the red bull driver.

You were forcing the wheel in erratic directions to keep on the racing line, understanding the algorithm of the rain. "Seb i— o—t, se— —s —ut. Floo— it." You heard the choppy voice over the radio, passing by the crashed out Ferrari.

"Fucking hell." You cursed, accelerating as you maneuverer through the rain like a pro. It felt amazing to be in such a fast car, a big step up from the F2 motor. You pushed the DRS button once you got the chance, overtaking the current reigning champion.

"P—, p—. Ke—p g—ing." You continued to push every corner. "P what?" You asked not hearing the message. "P—." "Oh for fucks sake. Radio is shitty." You shouted overtaking the apparent Manor.

"It's not always so easy to be high up in the standings as a rookie. How do you feel?" "My eyes hurt." You replied blandly to the interviewer, rubbing your eyes tiredly. Your face was covered from the nose down with your hair up in your famous claw clip bun, still wearing the '1st Place' cap for some reason. You were doing your best to keep the photographers from catching major features of your face, needless to say, you were doing a good job.

With Hamilton to your left and Riccardo on your right, you sat in the press conference room bored out of your mind as the interviewers asked you dumb questions. "You guys should go back to school. Maybe you can learn how to ask good questions for best results in writing essays."

"How old are you? Aren't you still in school." Lewis asked, chuckling as he turned to face you. "Graduated early." You shrugged, going back to facing the sea of journalists. "Is there a driver you would like to battle with the most?" "Um . . . Not really. They're either retiered or dead. Maybe . . . maybe Verstappen, Max not Jos. I've raced against him in the karting championships, I'm sure he improved and could put up a better fight now." "Do you think you'll get a full seat next season?"

"That's a difficult question. Not all uh . . . teams have enough trust in female drivers. Hopefully I demonstrated how worthy of a seat I am. I am after all the first and only female to finish on a podium and win a race so . . . we'll see where it goes."

It didn't go. It never was going to.

You were stuck in the factory, working on the car for someone else. And when a seat was finally free in 2018, you watched as they gave it to someone who was not you. You were furious, no other team would take you, a girl. Not even Ferrari wanted you on the track and you were an exeptional driver.

the only thing that kept you grounded was going back home to your family. Your uncle and cousin were your pride and joy, the ones that kept you going. But the question was, what were you going to do now?

If Dick were to die, Bruce would completely break. He wouldn't just stop at killing villains - hell no - he would start killing heroes too.

All that's going through his head is that no one deserves to exist if Dick is gone.

And knowing me, I will always gladly provide the evidence.

In the comics when Dick got shot, Bruce's world imploded.

He felt such a strong rage, he kinda lost it. He flew to another country, defeated assassins, and trucked through the freezing blizzard in Russia to get to KG Beast.

He. Punches. Gordon.

He hurts his friend and ally. The man who helped him the night his parents were murdered. He punched for his pain over Dick.

This is where it all connects to the Superman vs Batman movie. If Dick were to die, Bruce would kill his own allies in the end. He would raze the world to the ground.

In the comics, Dick's death is the turning point for Batman (2016). After this he enters a series of nightmares where his brain turns a nightmare of Selina dying to be exactly reminiscent of what happened to Dick, and even though Dick lived, Bruce can't let that go. Then the fight with Bane who targeted Dick solely because of his importance to Dick, and then the Joker War where the Joker tried to use Dick because of his importance to Bruce, and the Gotham War where Dick thrashing him was Bruce's breaking point from his toxic self and finally self-realization.

Damian once said Dick leaving to become Nightwing caused Bruce to lose his moral compass, and that's even more true now. He's breaking enemies and allies left and right just because Dick almost died.

Imagine what would happen if Dick really did.

could you explain more about what you view as the before era and what you view as the after? i need to learn my herstory

I think this requires a more detailed and educated/researched answer than I can give after an exhausting workday and an after-hours work event, but I'm going to do my best and also open up the floor in reblogs for people to chip in their thoughts

foremost: a DISCLAIMER that this post does not aim to shit on writers from the "before" era. there are many classic fics that I love and enjoy, even if I consider their characterizations to be "less accurate"* than the ones we have in the after era.

*aside to say: accuracy is based only off of literal media accounts we have of these men; we do not know them, we should not claim to know them, and they have had different comfort levels with the media knowing selective truths about their lives [sid out of choice, geno out of media xenophobia] than they did when these early fics were being written.

"before" fics (which I tend to refer to as "classic" fics, and had their heyday in 2012-2013 but continued up until 2016ish) tended to have more regimented roles for sid and geno. sid was usually the protagonist; geno was the love interest.

this came with a cascading set of characteristics assigned to each guy. sid was poor-little-meow-meow'd. geno was the pursuer in the relationship. sid usually bottomed. sid had the whole spacetoaster moment (he was the inspiration for the term, haha). there wasn't much a/b/o fic but sid was, like, the omega-fied one and geno was alpha-ized.

something I've been thinking about more recently is how 2012-2013 era sidgeno displayed signs of Migratory Slash Fandom. I don't think of MSF as an inherently negative/condemning thing, but I think it's a phenomenon that deserves to be mentioned/analyzed, yeah?

MSF thrives on big character differences.... like, grumpy/sunshine, sarcastic/broody, genius/empath. it's all about emphasizing disparate archetypes to create natural tension in a story. this works really well in most romance novels! I love it!

the issues arise when people try to make characters fit into these preset dynamics. and, frankly, when sidgeno first got big, we straight-up didn't know as much about sid and geno. I mean that. despite sid being EXTENSIVELY covered by media from age, like, 14, he was really tight-lipped compared to what we have now.

and geno was.... there. I don't mean that as a diss—he was INCREDIBLE, but the media totally passed him over again and again. or they helped contribute to stereotypes of him being a dumb oaf who didn't know english.

aside: ironically I think that helped in creating sidgeno and not, like.... sidflower or sidtanger. geno was so "DIFFERENT" from sid (aka: russian, characterized by media as not knowing how to speak [in comparison to sid's highly curated media soundbites]) that it meant he was the best candidate for A Ship with sid.

a lot of the really big writers who got into sidgeno were fandom veterans with lots of experience in other big fandoms. to me, that means MSF had a hand in all this. and we should be grateful, because it led to the BOOM of hockey fic, and of sidgeno fic specifically. modern hrpf wouldn't exist without it.

that being said, those template ship dynamics, plus the media's attitude then towards sid and geno in its coverage, led to those characterizations of whiny soft sensitive boy sid who needed to be rescued even though he was the best hockey player EVER, and geno as the lumbering tall strong alpha not-that-bright Love Interest Man.

this isn't to say every fic was this way, or that this is BAD. I, uh, love poor-little-meow-meow-ing sid and omegafying the hell out of him. what I'm saying is that it was a near-ubiquitous characterization across the board.

that all changed in 2016-2018. I personally wholly credit sevenfists, though I imagine it's more nuanced than that, but: my blog, I make the rules here. I don't know if sevenfists was psychic or just highly observant and absolutely excellent at reading people (and that's basically the same thing, right?), but characterization shifts began taking place in fic....

and the coolest thing happened, in that those characterizations were seemingly reinforced by more media coverage. the back to back cups brought with them TONS of interviews with and media about the team, and sid and geno in particular. the coolest part of it was that sid had loosened up a LOT and geno had gotten more comfortable (and had gotten a reporter firmly on his side).

the interviews about sid post 2016 were just SO different. so much information started coming out, and a LOT of it conflicted with Ye Olde Characterizations. as it turned out, sid was deeply one of the boys. he was funny. everyone liked him. he loved hosting. he was insanely comfortable around almost everyone, including strangers, because he's a little freak who's kind to everyone. he can make smalltalk like no one's business. he's kind of gross. he likes to giggle and be in on jokes and get into the thick of it. he isn't some blushing virgin bride sold off of mario's doorstep, yeah?

and geno, too, was finally getting the coverage he deserved. and his personality was both fortified by age and better shown to us through media. as it turns out, he isn't some happy go lucky oaf. he's mercurial and intensely aware of what others think of him (and he CARES). he's sensitive and thoughtful but also can lash out at random times. he has a wicked sense of humor that he uses as a defense mechanism and as a surefire way to get people to like him, which matters to him. and, as everyone says, he is SMART.

if you had to boil it down, I'd say that post-2016, it became clear that SID is the confident one and GENO is the insecure one. and fic caught onto that with a miraculously fast pace. also: they're more alike than they are different, but I still think romance inherently feeds off of difference and tension, so we still exaggerate things to make the stories ✨WORK✨.

I'm not going to give examples of pre- and post- era fics, because I don't want to point any fingers and say someone was doing characterization "wrong." that's not the takeaway I want anyone to have here.

fandom attitudes have changed. it's been 10 years since that first wave of fics, and while I don't think that's very long, it's a hell of a long time on the internet, and in a niche internet community. what was once the standard for fics (and what was well-read, and what people gravitated towards) was different. not worse—different.

I think it's fair to say the "after" era of fics is more "accurate" to what we know of sid and geno. it's also fair to say that this is only the case because we have a WEALTH of information, character-revealing interviews and videos and anecdotes, that Ye Old Authors could only dream of getting.

I really love the story of how everything has changed, and it's a fabulous microcosm of fandom evolution and how approaches to fanworks have changed and grown with fandom, and I think it's all so so cool.

in which : Satoru's a selfish man, so why can't he take your absence well?

It’s not like he was ashamed of it, he was rather aware. GOJO SATORU knew of his heart filled with greed, arrogance, words he’d probably have a hard time spelling. The same heart who loved you, and probably the same beating pulse who lost you.

“I told you so.” Suguru snickered, glancing over at Satoru whose arrogant façade and shit-eating grin was long gone the moment his messages were going green, you weren’t receiving them. And here he thought you loved receiving his messages every 2 minutes? 3 hours? Nah, it’s probably been a month since he’s replied to your previous message.

You: hey ‘toru, happy monthsary :) 9/27/2016 You: Satoru?? 9/28/2016 Satoru: yeah? (!) 11/1/2016

“God damn it” he groaned, and Satoru is…well, Satoru. In an attempt to test his luck, he texted once more. And to no surprise, it didn’t send either.

He wasn’t the only set of eyes who watched the messages turn an eyesore neon color of green, the raven-haired man sat next to him, a small grin tugging on his lips as he contained a laugh. A polar opposite in contrast to the white-haired man next to him.

“She was g’na leave anyways” Suguru shrugged, nudging Satoru in the shoulder. In his attempt to light the mood. In which Satoru’s frown deepened.

“Just find another one” Suguru spoke once more, the silent unsettling him. Despite being friends for the longest of times, it’s only now Suguru has acknowledged him in this current state. If anything, Gojo would’ve been crying to his flings about God knows what

“No, ya don’t get it” The man with covered eyes spoke, his glasses dangling off his nose as he spoke, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration, as Suguru objects to his statement.

“there’s other girls—”

“But I want her.”

And with that exclamation, the room fell silent. Leaving Suguru in disbelief, and Satoru with his head down to the palms of his hand. Even the strongest has his flaws, his emotions.

On the other hand, you’ve moved on... surprisingly! A part of you misses Satoru, more than you’d like to admit. Or would you even admit that at all?

He ghosted you, tormented you for the whole year. Probably ruined and brought a piece of you home with him. And for him to not bring you as a whole made it worse for you.

But in his conscience, loving you was easy, getting along with you was easier, losing you was dramatically ironic.

And finding you amidst of the crowd is like a muscle memory from him.

So, when his fingers tugged on the air, fiddling and practically grasping onto nothing. He wasn’t surprised, he never will be. Loving you was a muscle memory, a mental memory. Literally.

His fingers fidgeting with the hem of the pocket of his pants as his eyes pierce through the huge crowd. Knowing Satoru, he’d find you all the time amidst the crowd. That’s what you loved about him.

There’re two problems about that though, Keyword: Love and Newsflash—Satoru find’s that word an understatement, despite not knowing the word completely.

So, when he’s left with the huge crowd in the train station. It’s his own man vs society moment, his gaze ever shifting almost everywhere to find you. Hell, he doesn’t care anymore. pushing the people aside, none of them matter anyways. He’d argue if asked, because despite the people itching to get Gojo to spare a glance at them, his eyes were always set on you.

It didn’t take him long, which was surprising. Considering that it took him longer to find you than to reply to all those messages you sent back then.

He found you, you found him. despite the crowd, the tension was frightening, it screamed Satoru. Suspenseful, awkward, and cruel.

So, you turned on your heel, walking the other direction in an attempt to ignore the pair of eyes piercing through you.

“Come on, don’t be like that.” he spoke, it was loud, and loud it was. His voice like a ringing melody…on a Monday morning.

“Like what, Gojo?” You murmured to yourself, but he heard it like your voice was his only source of blood flow, the only reason his pulse would beat. And at this moment, maybe it was.

“Like I’m not here trying to say I’m fucking sorry.”

Truth be told, he loved you more than anything. Missed seeing you when he woke up, missed you being the first thing he saw when he unlocked his apartment at the evening, miss the way your hair flowed and tangled with his white hair whilst you were fast asleep. You were like an artifact, and he wasn’t the type to listen to his 7th grade social studies lectures. Because he realized. Not the other girls, not one of his girls yesterday. You. It was you.

A confused expression lighted up on your face, the same face which used to gush over his antics. God, he’s not good for your health. God bless you for having it in you to look him in the eye.

“Look—im sorry for…” His words got caught up in his throat, this was no God. This wasn’t a sorcerer who deserved the title of ‘the strongest.’ This was the emotion crisis of a god.

“Forget about it, move on.” You cut him off, your voice raising slightly as you spoke, quickening the pace of your steps.

“Hey wait, I didn’t tell you how...”

How I still think of you every night. How the moon reflects on your beauty, yet it’s telling me you’ve moved on

“I said forget about it.” You exclaimed, and it was as if a large dimension of osmium was lifted off your shoulders.

You’d like to think he was the osmium that burdened your shoulders; remarkably toxic, unhealthy and he felt like a dagger of knives clinging onto you bare.

Could you really fault him for discovering love? After all, who wouldn’t love you? You were so simple, yet complicated, comforting yet intoxicating. It made his head spin. He knows you’re convinced you’re just a mere nuisance to him. but in his perspective, you’re much more than he’s willing to admit.

But he’s going to admit all of that. When he sees you again.

But that interaction alone led you to Shoko’s headquarters, a frown on your face as she listened to you talk about your encounter.

“Men really are something.” Shoko hummed, eyes glimmering in disdain as she saw how much Satoru affected you. She wasn’t looking down on you at the slightest, she felt pure disgust over Satoru’s antics. But she can’t say she was surprised.

“I know.” You grumbled, your head resting against your knees as you spoke.

“Any chance you two would get back together?” Shoko broached about something rather sensitive, but you could never uninterest the doctor.

“..no, ‘m done.” You hurriedly replied, not bothering to elaborate any further, she can see why.

“don’t cry like that, if Satoru saw that he’d put you in an album cover for some song.”

“Shoko!”

12/23/16;

And it’s been a few days since you see Satoru, seen Shoko. Hell, have seen anyone. Working as a transcriptionist pays you well, and you don’t even have to go outside. It’s like a miracle.

But within the few days, you’ve always received flowers by your door.

“who’s this from?” you inquire, glancing up at the delivery man who seems just as clueless as you.

“..sorry ma’am, I actually don’t know.” He shrugs, flashing on a sheepish smile as his gaze fell down to the bouquet on your hand, a bouquet full of roses, with azure aster on the side, the pretty shade of blue standing out as much as the roses. No wonder they were called blue devils.

…?

It was in the name, maybe you knew who it was from.

And it went on for a few days, which turned into weeks and ranged into months. It was a draining experience.

Everyday it was a different flower, it got prettier by the day. Although, nothing from him came pretty.

and it was getting to the point where all the shelves in your apartment were filled with flowers, from pretty red roses to lilies who still look as lively as ever.

Maybe Satoru did it on purpose, you weren’t like Satoru. You let living things grow to its fullest extent. He left things to rot and die.

He wasn’t going to let you rot anymore, not even leave another scar on you at the slightest.

You haven’t received flowers from him this week. You’ve had enough, and maybe he has too, maybe you guys just need closure. You weren’t even sure if it was in a good way or not. Fumbling to get your phone from the nightstand as you unblocked his number.

And that was probably the worst thing you’ve done.

multiple messages flooded your phone, it was all from him. He’s been texting you all the while you’ve been ignoring him.

Satoru: miss ya 11/04/16 Satoru: do you like roses? 11/17/16 Satoru: 11:11pm 11/27/16 Satoru: I can’t seem to leave you alone 12/04/16 Satoru: what do ya want for xmas 12/09/16

It’s just everything you’d expect from Satoru. Texts laced with bitter genuineness. His love is inhospitable—…what are those last few?

Satoru: last message, I’ll leave you alone. Sorry for seizing the opportunity when I lost it, can ya blame me for falling in love with you? 12/23/16 Satoru: actually no, not last message. I just miss you so fucking much. 12/23/16

What does Satoru know about love? You thought to yourself. In fairness he knew how to woo women, hit them in the right spots. But he never knew how to love them genuinely. Something he was willing to learn within your guidance.

Satoru on the other hand who’s been panicking on the fact all his undelivered messages suddenly sent, he’s sulking and pacing back and forth because –what the fuck???

Yet a small glimpse of hope was shining upon his eyes, maybe you wanted to talk?

You:??? 12/23/16

Yeah, never mind. All that hope is shattered, clinking like glass onto the floor. He’s afraid to walk over it, because he’d be walking on you.

You: I miss you too 12/23/16

and that was all he needed, a few simple words and with a snap of his finger. He hauled himself into your apartment complex.

“ya miss me?” he hummed, and for the first time in months. An actual grin plastered his face. He’s disheveled, messy, not in his best state. He wants you.

“maybe.” You shrugged, tracing your marble countertop as you waited for the pan to heat up, not bothering to face him.

God, were you the prettiest. He’d swallow his pride all over again to see that pretty smile dangling off your face. His blue eyes shined with determination as he approached.

And once he got a close-up view of you, he pulled you in from behind, a soft and alluring embrace. The hard callous palm of his hand finding yours easily. He’s warm and love embraces him as much as it embraces you, in contrast to the dickhead he was a few months ago.

“I miss this, miss you.” He murmured as he buried himself on your shoulder.

“Miss the mornings where I’d see you cooking something. Or when it’s late at night and we can’t sleep so you talk about your day till you whine about being sleepy.” He thought to himself.

“..miss you too,’toru.” You spoke, and for the first time in forever. He sighed out a breathe that he didn’t even know he was holding. Like you were his source of living and he could finally bloom within your presence.

“I’m ready to try again, are you?” he whispered, his blue eyes peeking up at you from your shoulder, causing you to steal a few glances at his pretty face.

“I’m ready, as long as it’s with you.”

Have you ever noticed that ever since season one of What If introduced Captain Carter, she's been showing up a lot more than Sam Wilson as Captain America? I once queationed it, which pissed off some Peggy stans on this site to the point where I had to alter the tags so I wouldn't have to deal with them.

Oh yeah I did, trust me, you’re not the only one. Many Sam or Steve or Bucky stans and, yk, Peggy antis here on tumblr noticed it, but her stans are just too stubborn to accept it.

In my humble opinion, I think Peggy is simply a better character for marvel to sell as cap (and not for the right reasons), which is why Sam’s cap hasn’t appeared in 2/3 years and all of Steve’s appearances were butchered.

Steve is noble, all about freedom and doing what’s right. He was a disabled son of immigrants who knew struggle and, in his own words, didn’t like bullies no matter where they came from, which means that doing what was right to him was more important than any government, any authority. Civil War is all about this characterization of Steve, and it’s why he was the perfect man for the job.

Sam is like Steve. He is a noble man who knew struggle and suffering growing up, who lost loved ones, his place in the world the moment he chose to follow what was right instead of what was ordered to him. He was ridiculed and beaten down, and risked losing it all multiple times, but that never made him back down. Plus, to add fuel to the fire, the higher powers would have never accepted him as Captain America because he’s black, no matter if Captain America himself passed the mantle to him, they wouldn’t have accepted him and still didn’t right up to the finale of TFATWS. Sam is perfect for the job and mirrors Steve as the perfect Captain America of his time.

Peggy is… well, she’s nothing of these things.

Yes, she’s a woman, and so everyone would be expected to find sympathy for her, to root for her, but aside from her stans no one actually does. Peggy has a support system and respect, like it or not, and she was relevant. She’s arrogant, she’s headstrong, and she doesn’t go against the system because she is the system. She’s not a minority, she never knew struggle, hell, she lived a comfortable life up until the war and after. And marvel can use her more than Sam or Steve because she’s not troublesome like them, she’s not going to rebel the system if not for selfish reasons or plot points. She’s not Steve, she’s not Sam, and she shouldn’t be, but at the same time Peggy should not be a Captain that marvel should enforce in their media over and over again.

As Erskine said, “Because the strong man who has known power all his life may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strength and knows... compassion.” And while Steve and Sam don’t know strength in the sense that Erskine disregards, Peggy does. And if anything, she resembles John Walker.

Not to mention she is no character of her own, she’s simply the mixture of some characters thrown together in a cauldron, and in addition she’s a Mary Sue. She is a villain masked as hero, one that is convenient as a character and can be thrown from side to side as if she was some Y/N insert in an avengers fanfic.

Not only she has made more appearances than the current Captain America, but she managed to insert herself in the majority of What If…’s storylines, even more than actual main characters. Like, you want to tell me people actually want yet another episode about Peggy or with Peggy being a major character instead of Wanda, Loki or the main six avengers? No one does, not even the stans with a functioning brain. But Marvel will not stop, and whatever chokehold Hayley Atwell has on them will last until she’ll be satisfied with the colonization of all the possible marvel projects.

So ultimately, to answer your question: yes, I did notice Sam is being overshadow by a dusty side character that should have stayed dead back in 2016. You’re not alone, and I’m glad I’m not either. If you scroll on my profile you’ll soon find an old post of mine from last year, during the MoM era, where I was talking about this issue, and a Peggy stan went ballistic and on a rant on how I was using Sam as an excuse to hate on Peggy and justify Stucky. (Btw nice move altering the hashtags, I’ve done it too and it’s been a blessing for me.)
