How to Meditate Using Tarot Cards
Tarot, which originated as a card game, has since been infused by fortunetellers, scholars and mystics with occult meanings. A tarot deck is a book of spiritual secrets. And each card is an entire chapter with its own wisdom to offer.
STEP 1: Prepare your space.
Make sure you are physically comfortable and unlikely to be disturbed by anyone. Here are tips on how to achieve this.
STEP 2: Prepare yourself.
Close your eyes as you take deep breaths. Do this, knowing you are about to gain wisdom on how to move forward with your situation.
STEP 3: Confess your worries.
Open your eyes, and look at your tarot deck. Do not ask it a question. This is meditation, not divination. Instead, voice out your fears or burdens.
“I’m in an abusive relationship, but I’m afraid to tell anyone. Because then I’d just feel more pressured to leave. I’m scared he’ll come after me.”
“There’s this new girl in school who’s always staring at me. I don’t know if she’s gossiping about me or what. It really bothers me.”
“Everyone’s saying it’s okay for a girl to ask a guy out. Well, I really like Nikos. But what if he says no? I’d be humiliated!”
STEP 4: Shuffle your deck.
Do not invoke your higher power. Meditation is not the same as prayer. It is simply you having a chat with your higher and shadow selves. In this case, with tarot as your conduit.
STEP 5: Draw a card.
You can pull from the top, from the bottom or in the middle. But whatever you do, never put the card back. Do not pull another, just because the first one was not what you expected.
STEP 6: Look at it.
Think of the card you pulled as a blank page. Wait for it to reveal its message. Do not think of the card’s textbook meanings. It will tell you what it means for your purpose.
The Devil, usually representing an oppressor, could start getting thinner in front of your eyes. It means your abuser is weakening, and it is time to strike.
You could hear the laughter of the boys who are playfighting in the Five of Wands. It means whoever appears to be an enemy could actually be a friend.
The Knight of Cups could start moving. His horse could trip over a rock. It means you should not approach the one you are thinking of. It would not be smart.
STEP 7: Close the session.
After the tarot card has delivered its message, put it back in the deck.
It is up to you if you will heed its advice or trust its declaration. But since you did not summon anyone, know that the message came from within. It is the path recommended by your higher and shadow selves. Taking it would help.
Before you leave your sacred space, thank your cards for conveying the message.

UNPOPULAR WITCH OPINION
i literally hate meditation.
Fuck meditation.
Normalize not meditating. Like I cannot no matter how much I try! I’ve been practicing witchcraft for like almost three years and not once has meditating worked for me. Like guided meditations on YouTube are weird and my mind actually never shuts down + I can’t visualize things so 🤷 like my mind literally is never quiet I didn’t know that was a thing until a friend was like “yeah my brain sometimes just is blank” LIKE WHAT?
All of that to say, meditating isn’t for everyone :)

8 tips for meditation beginners
I've struggled with meditating for a long time and recently made a breakthough of sorts. Here are 8 things that really help me feel a sense of peace and connection during a meditation, as well as clearing out the erratic thoughts:
Viewing the experience as an expression of my earnest desire to connect in more profound ways with God/the universe.
Meditating as early in the morning as I can, before eating anything.
Realizing that I like a certain sound for meditation- bells and crystal bowls are my faves.
Having sunlight in my closed eyes- there is a spot in my studio in the morning that is perfect for this.
Starting with a prayer outloud. Gratitude, inviting God into my mind, heart, and body.
Not forcing the perfect posture… I sit on a cushion crossed legged but I let my back rest against the wall as needed, rather than being upright and unassisted.
Invoking self-compassion when the hyper-critical part of me judges myself for doing it wrong. It's OKAY. You are OKAY. Put that inner critic into it's place- as a small guy with a squeaky little voice.
When the monkey mind is too crazy, I find creating a dialouge helps- I verbalize all my thoughts aloud and take a second to process it all. After that I find I can focus better.
Using mantras and affirmations.

Mediation Resources For The Witch Who Can’t Meditate 💫
Howdy! It’s your friendly neighborhood witch here FINALLY back with some witch tips. It feels like its been forever since I’ve made a genuine Tumblr post so here I am! I have a lot more free time + free space to really enhance my practice so I’ve gotten a second wind when it comes to witch blogging!
Anywho, that brings me into today’s topic: Meditation! I personally HATE the act of meditating like listening to guided meditations and doing deep breathing- it really irks me. I can never quiet my mind enough and I end up getting really frustrated. What i’ve realized now is that meditation isn’t all that black and white.
Tumblr media
If I don’t do traditional meditations...then how do I meditate?
For me, i successfully meditate when I’m able to hyperfocus on a task for the pure joy of it. The ability to hyperfocus on something really brings me into that meditative mindset. Meditation- to me- is just giving your mind the ability to do whatever it pleases. In the ADHD world, we call this chasing the dopamine.
Another Method: Mind Retreat
Another method to go about reaching that meditative mindset is to take a few moments to close your eyes, and really listen to what thoughts you’re having. Don’t try to filter yourself, just let your brain THINK! Listen to what your mind is telling you, and just let all of your thoughts flow freely, without judgement. Do this multiple times a day, just to give yourself a truly *safe* space to THINK!
Meditation and Ritual
You may often hear people telling you that you need to meditate before any spell/ritual/etc. This is true- to an extent. Many practitioners (to no fault of their own) will emphasize the importance of a completely clear mind when performing rituals/spells/etc. THIS IS TRUE, but for me having my mind completely clear is quite literally impossible. I used to fault myself for not being able to meditate “correctly” and not being able to have a clear mind when I was practicing. BUT NOW I understand that it’s not about literal clearness of the mind, but rather clarity of the mind. Those may seem like they are the same thing but when I think of a “clear mind” i think like- no thoughts (which i thought to be impossible but my mother informed me neurotypicals don’t have a constant never-ending monologue going on in their head) where clarity is a focus on the task at hand. Therefore, getting into that calm, meditative mindset is beneficial when going to perform rituals.
Other Meditation Resources
I know that my approach to meditation is a bit different than what you may regularly envision, so I’ve linked a few other resources to help you along your journey. Feel free to leave me a DM or an ask (can’t promise I will remember to check my asks lol) if you have any questions or just want to talk :)
Yoga With Lakshmi- Yoga can be very beneficial when thinking about meditation, as it’s a peaceful and calm way to approach clarity of the mind whilst also taking care of your body.
5 Senses Grounding Exercise- I made a post about grounding (FIND IT HERE) a while back but here is another exercise to help ease anxiety and reach clarity of the mind. I’m sure you’ve heard of this one lol
Mediation Playlist- This is a playlist I found with a bunch of videos about meditation and meditation-adjacent things (I will be honest with you, I haven’t watched all of them but I want to give y’all multiple different types of resources)
THERE ARE TONS OF GUIDED MEDITATIONS ON YOUTUBE IF THAT’S UR JAM!
REMEMBER...
Meditation looks different for everyone, so don’t bring yourself down if you see someone doing something differently! Meditation is just another useful tool to help you in both your practice and your daily life. Remember you are important, you are loved, and you are going to do great things. Have a good day :)
