What Car Cosmere Characters Would Drive

As requested by @salted-watermelon :)

If Cosmere characters were instead carsmere characters and, like, drove cars, what kind of car would best suit them? (Don't worry--I got my butch wife to help with this post.)

1. Straff Venture: A cybertruck

The worst of cars for the worst of men.

2. Elend: A Prius

Elend decides to get an environmentally conscious, gas-saving vehicle partly because he cares about the planet, but mostly because it makes his dad SO mad.

3. Kaladin: A beat-up old Corolla

Kaladin's car may be a bit old and it may be a bit beat-up but storms if it isn't the most dependable thing ever. No matter what that car goes through, it just keeps chugging along.

4. Adolin: A Mustang

Get it? Because it's a car with a horse on it!

5. Shallan: A VW Bug

"What's an artsy car for Shallan?" I asked. "How about a Bug?" said my wife. "That's perfect!" I cried. "Shallan LOVES bugs because cremlings is bugs!"

And that is my story.

6. Wax: A Bentley...and also a beat-up old pickup truck

In true Wax style, he drives the Bentley in the Roughs but uses the old beat-up pickup truck in the city, especially when driving to fancy parties.

7. Steris: A Volvo

According to a google search, a Volvo is a car for someone dependable, boring, and safety-conscious. Steris is not actually a boring person, of course, but she would definitely have a boring-person car. Not to mention one that is very safe!

8. Eshonai: A Jeep

A good car for exploring!

9. Lightsong: Rolls Royce

He doesn't drive it anywhere. It mostly just sits there and looks beautiful.

10. Vasher: A mangled Dodge Charger

The car looks a lot like Vasher himself--like it's been through centuries of wear and tear. But hey, it works! Sorta.

11. Leshwi: A Motorcycle

Basically I thought about Leshwi riding a motorcycle and then I passed out.

12. Allrianne: Mini Coop

Apparently these are the girliest of cars. And in Allrianne's case, it's definitely pink!

13. Tress: Takes the bus

In no universe does Tress have a car, I feel. Taking the bus is fine!

Reasons you should be watching Yellowjackets as a lesbian:

Let’s start with the obvious, shall we, the canon lesbian ship (VanTaissa). Which includes a masc/butch lesbian and a lesbian of color! Like we love to see the representation! Their relationship also feels authentic in a way rarely seen in media. Their scenes really shine with the underlying playfulness of young, first love.

Did I mention they’re played by an openly nonbinary lesbian actor and a queer actress in the 1996 timeline and Taissa in 2021 is played by another queer actress! And the cast has been allowed a lot of involvement in making their characters stories even more authentic (though the show runners and writers already do an amazing job).

Speaking of their story, one of my favorite things about the show is that their relationship and queerness isn’t treated as an obstacle to overcome, as it is many times in media. In fact, relationship is really a source of joy and strength for both characters when they’re stranded in the wilderness. Also, it should be noted that both of the lesbian characters have well developed storylines and motivations beyond their relationship.

And in 2021 we learn that Taissa grew up to have a beautiful family with her wife (who isn’t Van) and get to watch her campaign for state senate as an out lesbian. Enter the internal conflict of wanting to root for Taissa’s marriage in 2021 while simultaneously wanting a decades spanning love story for Van and Taissa.

On the topic of Van, she’s one of the best representations of masc/gender nonconforming lesbians I’ve seen in my lifetime. The show allows her to be sweet and soft and emotionally vulnerable in a way that masc/butch lesbians are rarely allowed to be on screen. (I could go on about what that portrayal personally meant to me, but that’s a whole other thread)

However, the show’s overarching queerness and exploration of lesbian identity goes far beyond the canon relationships. Jackie and Shauna are two best friends on the show who have an underlying (and very obvious) romantic tension to their friendship complete with longing glances and homoromantic friendship breakups.

Let me put it this way, if you even remotely liked Jennifer’s Body, you will be head over heals for JackieShauna. And don’t even get me started on the visceral portrayal of Jackie’s comphet in the pilot (or do if you want a dissertation). And there’s also queer coding in so many other characters (stares at Lottie and her purple laced docs and Nat and her everything).

Also, I cannot stress enough how incredible this show is even beyond it’s queer elements! Like from the 90s vibes to the incredible writing to beautiful cinematography, it’s worth the watch. Like it’s a riveting psychological horror mystery that explores the brutalities of girlhood with heart and humor.

Did I mention Showtime renewed through season 3 before we even got a trailer for season 2, so we’re guaranteed at least two more seasons! (Not to mention Showtime has a long history of supporting lesbian and queer narratives)

“I’m sending my daughter to an all girls catholic school to set her straight!”

My actual all girls catholic school experience:

- two girls got caught having some sexy time in the art school bathroom

- my sister’s best friend since pre-school (attended the same K-12 catholic school) came out as trans and as a result, all the kids learned about gender

- my drama teacher got married to his long time bf in a beautiful intimate ceremony at a small theatre in town which some students attended

- my foreign language teacher got married to her current wife who she met 20 years ago as an English teacher at the SAME school when she was closeted and married to another teacher at the school (a man)

- the butch physical education teacher started dating a younger woman publicly by bringing her to events, after which they immediately moved in together and now have a kid

- sarcastic math teacher had two pregnancies, during which time her hotshot lawyer wife fetched her from school EVERY DAY and brought her lunch despite her responsibilities

- lesbians bringing their gay friends as dates to the dance, so they could both go with their partners

- the librarian immigrating to Australia to be with her online gf that she used to Skype in the library every afternoon for THREE HOURS

- AND recently (after I left) a non-binary English teacher started there who is referred as Teacher {redacted} instead of Mr/Ms

PLUS - don’t even get me STARTED on the lesbian nepotism drama!

Moral of the story, I met more queer people at a single sex catholic school than I have at a public university in 3 years. Yes, the school was traumatic and homophobic as an institution, but I’ve never met more inspiring queer individuals than my peers and mentors then.

So I love She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. It is beautiful, and I adore both how it handles relationships and redemption. No relationship is a perfect fairytale, but a plate of spaghetti; messy but wonderful. And redemption can come to anyone, as long as you’re willing to work for it. And sometimes it takes a lifetime and sometimes you aren’t forgiven, and all of that is okay. (Once Upon A Time also does it in an exemplary fashion with Regina Mills, who may’ve been the blueprint for complicated redemption in modern television.)

Anyway, I love the show, and its relationships, and today I’m doing…

ANGEL’S TOP 5 SHE-RA SHIPS!!

5. Scorfuma (Scorpia x Perfuma)

This ship is so wholesome. It is a huge refresher in SPOP; yes, like I said, the relationships here are worthwhile, but also difficult. Scorfuma is not that ship. It’s a beautiful femme lesbian falling in love at first sight with a magnificent butch lesbian. Another reason I love SPOP is because it subverts character stereotypes; Scorpia is butch as all hell and I wish she were real, because she is soft, sensitive, kind and sweet. Perfuma is assertive, self-confident, speaks her mind and does whatever she thinks is right regardless of what others think. (Although, she’s far from perfect and I don’t like how she treats Entrapta for a lot of the series.) Perfuma sees Scorpia for the wonderfully good person she is, and she falls in love with Scorpia for it. They are similar people, in which they’re both kind and sweet, but they are also noticeably different people. My mom says that a couple cannot be too similar or too different otherwise they won’t work, and Scorfuma is a perfect example of her wisdom.

4. Spinnetossa (Spinnerella x Netossa)

Spinnetossa should be every married couple’s endgame. I am sad that they didn’t get more screentime or lines, because they have the ideal marriage (next to the Addamses from The Addams Family and the Belchers from Bob’s Burgers and every marriage counselor should have these three couples in their waiting rooms as the couples to be like). This is a couple who loves and respects each other, and who are (rightfully, hehe) obsessed with each other. My favorite thing about them is their devotion to each other - as much as they wanna save the universe and magic, they are each other’s primary goal. They want to be together and want to keep each other safe and happy above all else. My favorite moment is where Spinnerella wins their bot-slaying contest and instead of getting annoyed, Netossa happily kisses her wife and calls her “my girl”. MELT LIKE 🧊 BABY!

3. Seamista (Mermista x Sea Hawk)

Oh my. If Spinnetossa are obsessed with each other, then Seamista is the definition of insanity. Sea Hawk is not immune to the flaws of Mermista, he loves her for all she is and celebrates her, singing her praises and building her up even if it just seems like silly simping (need me a person like that). Mermista is not immune to the positives of Sea Hawk even if she doesn’t act like it. She knows him to be a moral, kind, devoted, loving, caring and affectionate man, and shows it accordingly even if it seems to annoy her. (If it really did, you think they’d be a couple? 😉 ) She loves him, and I hate how people say she’s abusive to him. If their genders were flipped, it would be the definition of the gentle girl, brooding boy trope. Mermista has a whole kingdom (a crumbling one as she adds) on her shoulders, it would get to anyone! She appreciates Sea Hawk for sticking by and loving her, and they obviously care about each other very much.

2. Glimbow (Glimmer x Bow)

Glimbow is childhood friends turned romantic partners done RIGHT! Originally, I didn’t see it, but the hints were always there and they weren’t hints. They are legitimately friends but imo every good romantic relationship begins with and maintains friendship as the base. They go through hell together, with the loss of their parents (which Bow finds his and Glimmer finds hers, but for awhile, they’re alone together), an invasion and attack caused by Glimmer, and regaining magic in the universe. This ship shows that apologizing and working towards forgiveness is important part of any relationship. Glimmer will do anything to fix her mistake, and Bow forgives her because he loves her for every part of her, and deep down knows her guilt will always be the price she pays for that mistake. I love this ship for these reasons.

1. Entrapdak (Entrapta x Hordak)

My favorite ship in SPOP and it is above and beyond an ideal relationship for me. Like Glimbow, they were friends before they were lovers, but they wholeheartedly accept each other from the get-go. It isn’t about accepting flaws and positives - Entrapta sees Hordak as beautiful and wonderful because of his imperfections and she adores all of that in him, while Hordak worships Entrapta (oh you know he does) because she is the first person to accept him so readily for who he is. Not as a clone or a tool, as a person. He accepts her autism and immediately knows how brilliant and creative she is. They are constantly on each other’s minds as each other’s best friends, and they fall in love because of their imperfections. Just how they like it.

You woke up to the dim light of an unfamiliar room, your eyes adjusted to the dark room when you felt a ringing pain in your head. You were tied up, couldn't move, you were confused and scared very scared. You were squirming around trying to free yourself from the metal chains wrapped around your body when all of a sudden you heard.

"Well, well, well looky here boys~ sleepin' beauty's finally awake" you looked up in horror to realize you'd been kidnapped by the snake mafia one of butch's (your husband) worst enemies. You glared at Seth the leader of the gang. "Dawww what's wrong princess? Cat got your tongue~" he lifted up you chin to meet his eyes but you refused his gaze.

"B-butch will kill you for t-t-this" you stutterd through the pain in your head. "Oh ho hoo sorry babe your 'prince Charmin' hasn't noticed yet~ you've been here for hours, and we ain't heard a damn thing from that walking sack 'a bones" he smirked while placing a thumb on your lip.

You bit down on it. Hard. To the point where when he forcefully removed his thumb from your mouth it was covered in blood. He slapped you hard across the face "stupid skank! " the force made a single tear form in the corner of your eye.

It wasn't long after they began hustling you for information, "where do they keep the money huh? " "I don't know", you responded " where are they hidin'? " "I don't know" you responded yet again. He slapped you again and grabbed your cheeks to force you to look at him "listen here ya stupid slut that red mafia retard is your fuckin husband, you mean to tell me 'you don't know' where he keeps shit!? " he shouted in your face.

"If ya wanna know so fuckin badly why don cha ask me yerself? " a low voice spoke it was demented with anger and you knew exactly who it was. "BUTCH!" you cried out with joy.

Before you could say anything he pulled Seth by the hair and smashed his face repeatedly into the corner wall until the floor was covered in his blood. It spilled out of him like a water bottle that tipped over on its side. Your husband glared at the other gang members.

He pulled out his gun pointed them to their faces and said in a tone you never heard before " stay the hell away from my wife you bastards. " before pulling the trigger multiple times killing every single one.

He rushed over to you and untied the chains and when you were free you leaped onto him and started to cry and cry. He pulled you into him lovingly as you cried into his chest, "I am so sorry sweetheart" he said in a broken whisper, "I should've never let you outta my sight.. Not for a damn second. "

He teleported you both home, you cleaned up and just lay in bed. "Baby" he said rubbing circles on the plush of your inner thigh. "Mhm" you mumbled enjoying the soothing circle movements on your thigh. "I'm so fuckin sorry, this whole thing is my fault I got you involved with my bullshit and now.. Well now look at whats happened.. " he said looking away from you.

"Butch-" you said lovingly, "really it's not your fault I shouldn't have wondered off without you" you rubbed his cheek bone to comfort him. He was still avoiding your gaze. "The most important thing is that we're not severely injured or hurt", you reminded him he placed a cold boney hand on yours that was on his cheek bone.

"Yeah.. Yeah yer right sweetheart", he said with a relived sigh "I'm glad they didn't dare to hurt ya too bad, but it still gets on my damn nerves that they tried to".

"Shhhh" you nuzzled into the crook of his neck and wrapped your arms around him which in turn he did the same. "I love you butch" you kissed his neck before snuggling up to try get some rest.

"I love you too doll, I'm never lettin' ya outta my sight again don't worry", he kissed your forehead before falling asleep in the bed with you.

Last night my wife and I saw Fortune Feimster!

Seattle was buzzing with life all around us as we stood in line for Fortunes show. She is my absolute favorite comic so needless to say, I was beyond excited to be there for a live taping of her new Netflix special!

We arrived two houser early and I'm so thankful we did, even though it was a sold out show the line of people went all the way down the block. One we scanned our tickets we headed straight to the merch. We were the first people there😳. If you have seen Fortune on Netflix you'll remember there was a joke in a previous standup special where she talks about her wife and the women her wife had dated in the past and how butch she was compared to them. So when I saw she had a shirt that said I'm Butch I didn't even ask Moss if she wanted one, I just ordered.

Goodies in hand we headed up to our nose bleed seats, honestly I didn't even care I was just so excited to be there. Those flights of stairs nearly killed me though. But once at the top we snagged some seats in the middle and prepared to get comfy. Funny laughs to begin in T minus 60 minutes.

Which, damn that's a long time in seats that are super plastic and not built for the hips Goddess and good food has graced me with. But the building is absolutely stunning. And there's so many lesbians! It felt so good to be around other women like us.

Theres these states that are perched high above within the top dome and they each are holding different things. They're so beautiful, I just wanted to take them home. Don't you think they'd look great in a Goddess garden?

So we're sitting there for maybe twenty minutes when some group of people came and sat down beside us. I'm not a fan, and neither is my wife, of large crowds. But I knew that it was a sold out show so I went in accepting that there would be large amounts of people everywhere. However, one of the ladies that was behind us had a laugh that I could not sit in front of for an entire show so I whispered to my wife that we needed to move.

Stick with me here. I know this is getting long.

So we go up as high as we can, there's no seats behind us. This guy starts walking around the balcony area asking if there's any party of 1 and if so it can mean the difference between sitting up here and much closer. I was so jealous! You know those stories where they're taping and they have to fill the seats so some jo shmo gets pulled to go sit down in the front. He leaves and we get settled in, talking about how excited we are.

Dude is back! "I need parties of 3." He's so far away but coming closer. I can feel the adrenaline corsing through my veins. He's walking higher through the seats now, "any parties of 2?" I shot my hand up but he didn't see me and selected someone else. Utterly destroyed.

But he's still walking closer!

"Parties of two?" We lock eyes and I hold up two fingers. "Meet me in the lobby."

I scream whisper to Moss, "let's go!" And I gather everything up and race down the steps, nearly falling. We get down to the lobby, my wife also tripping and rolling her ankle. But like the 300 she trudged on.

We get down into the lobby and a door is opened for us and ya'll I can see the stage! We start walking down the isle to be filtered into seats and at one point I pass by the stage and touch it. Looking up I can't even see the seats we once inhabited, it's sureal.

We sat just behind the cameras that were filming but off to the side so we still had great viewing. The seats were so much bigger than up in the nose bleeds and plush too! The show was fantastic, I can't wait to rewatch it when it comes out.

My top 5 Gotham ships no one else cares about (and why I love them)

A silly little list with the silly little ships I see no one (or very few people) talk about. I also genuinely believe Gotham would have been better if these ships were canon or at the very least give some more depth to characters who needed it, but hey just my silly little opinion.

1- Fish X Gertrude

Listen. Fish already calls herself Oswald's mama, why not make it canon? Of course, that isn't the only reason why I love this ship almost as much as I love Nygmobblepot. I am a huge sucker for 'evil', broken character who is made better by a character who is a literal sunshine and that would be their dynamic. Fish is someone who fought to get where she did her entire life, she is teeth and nails dressed in red, but what happens when someone who has only been shown pain and anger meets kindness and care for the first time? If I remember correctly, Fish's club opened 20 years prior to the show, so, imagine if you may, what if Gertrude began working for Fish as a cook and bartender to take care of Oswald, but instead of becoming more hardened like everyone else does, Gertrude never loses her kindness, something that shakes up Fish along with her dedication with her son (something she knows well from her own mother) and before she knows it Fish has fallen for this simple woman who is sunshine personified. Oswald grows up mistrusting Fish, but neither of them allow Gertrude to learn about the "dark" side of their lives. In this version, Fish doesn't want to 'kill' Oswald, but Falcone insists after his betrayal as a display of loyalty. Fish truly sees him as her own son and his heartbroken while Oswald thinks that all of his mistrusts were true and that this woman needs to be taken down before she takes away what is most important to him: his mother.

In this version, Fish allows Oswald to kill her on that roof, but Oswald doesn't realize this. At first, Oswald is happy, he is finally king of Gotham, but he is forced to watch as his mother forever waits for his love who he knows will never come back. It's a bittersweet victory and, after a while, Oswald starts missing Fish as well.

Imagine, if you will, after Gertrude dies and Fish comes back, she comes back home to try to find her wife, asking Oswald where his mother is while Oswald tells Fish through broken sobs that she is gone and it is all his fault. Of course, Oswald expects Fish to be angry at him, hate him, even shoot him, but she doesn't. She wraps her arms around him and both of them cry in each other's arms to mourn for the person in their life who brought them together, finally as family.

2- Victor Zsasz X Lucius Fox

The main reason why I like this ship so much is their personalities. Victor is the most chill, easygoing character in Gotham, a character that is aloof to everything and everyone. Lucius is the opposite. He is a workaholic with a tendency of making other people's problems his own. They are opposites, but in a way where they make each other better: Vic helps Lucius relax and chill and Lucius shows Vic why there are people that is worth caring for.

Little headcanon of mine, but I like to think that Victor and Lucius have been secretly dating for years, right under Jim's nose. Lucius is the one who prevents Victor from being caught by Jim and crew. I think they would have broken up in season 4 after Vic betrays Oswald, but get back together shortly after Vic is nearly killed. They are the ultimate Nerd X Bad Boy and I think they are pretty neat.

3- Barbara Kean X Renee Montoya

The one and only canon ship here. I'm sorry Tabitha fans, but Tabitha kinda deserved to die, not to mention, Tabitha never loved Barbara. She was in love with Butch, so much so that love got her killed. If only she had listen to Barbara. It was a beautiful, poetic death.

That being sad, it kinda sucks Barbara was left all alone. Now, when it comes to Barbara, she is such a tragic character that is so poorly written, all relationships in her life are extremely toxic, from her parents to Jim who never loved her, he only loved the perfect mask that she wore for that very purpose. You know who was the only person who saw past that mask and still loved her enough so for both of their sakes? Renee Montoya. It's bad how she broke up with her, but it makes sense. More importantly, Renee was right. They were making each other worse, falling back into an addiction that was each other. Neither of them were ready back then.

But here is the beautiful thing about people, they can change, evolve and grow and Barbara has grown. She saw the worst version she could be and was punished for it, she rejected it, but not in a way that pushed her back to the mask, she became her own person, someone not fully enveloped by darkness, but not willing to walk in the light either. We don't get to see Montoya after season 1, but maybe, just maybe, she has grown just as much.

4- Sofia Falcone X Nyssa Al Ghul

Not gonna lie, I like this ship because they could potentially be the perfect Nygmobblepot foil. While Nygmobblepot is messy, full of emotions and both sides are barely functional, these two have little to no emotions attached, they are together because it is useful to both parties and fun as well. They respect each other, but are willing to stab the other in the back in a heart beat and they know this and they are fine with that. Superficially, this is what Oswald and Edward want with each other, it's much easier than those messy feelings of theirs, but boy is that not what they are truly after, because love might be their biggest weakness, but both of them would die in a heartbeat for it, no matter how painful or messy it could be.

And yes, I know it is hypocritical of me to judge this show for using women for the sake of men and do this here, but hey, not all characters need to be deep. Sometimes a ship can be two bad bitches who are great together and make fun of everyone else who can't accomplish the same.

5- Firefly X Selina Kyle

The reason why I use Firefly here and not the name used in the show is because I headcanon that Firefly is Trans Masculine and later on adopts the name we see in the comics for himself.

Now, this isn't a never seen before ship or anything, but I have seen very few fics with these two and I wanted to add at least one hetero ship here and when it comes to Gotham, this is all that we can get as when a man and a woman are on screen in that show they have as little they can, probably because when that happens the woman in the relationship is generally diminished to either an object of desire, something that needs to be protected or something warped and E V I L that needs to be stopped or just plain out annoying. The only exception is women interacting with Oswald and he has 0 interest in them. Go figure. That being said, Selina had more chemistry with firefly way more than anyone else in the show with the exception of maybe Ivy, but, uh, I don't want to touch whatever this show did to Ivy with a 10ft pole, especially in a shipping context.

Back to these two, Selina is someone who acts like she doesn't care about people, but in reality she acts like a protector to quite a few people including Bruce, Ivy and Firefly, since I'm not talking about Ivy, the most interesting relationship is definitely between that Selina and Firefly as, with Bruce, their banter and will they won't they gets old real fast, which is a shame since I am a big Batcat fan in the comics.

Both Firefly and Cat are broken people who have seen the worst life has to offer from a very young age, but they react to this differently as these scars help Selina grow and mature while with Firefly, they push him into becoming a more violent and angry version of himself, one might say, the very type of person he once hated and wanted to escape. It's Selina's compassion and never ending loyalty to someone she knows is most likely gone that makes this ship so appealing. Selina even manages to touch Firefly's soul, enough so to convince him to protect her as they escape Arkham. It is a shame we didn't get to see more of them later on (and how OOC firefly becomes in season 4 with that whole scene where he threatens to burn Barbara, Tabitha, Selina and Ed) but I think that they would have eventually made up and possibly even become allies once more as Firefly lacked the jealousy and rivalry Ivy had with Selina. Perhaps, if things had gone a little differently, Firefly would have stayed by Selina's time the entire show.
