oughggh something that makes me insane about the dynamic between Akihiro and Laura is that they're both outcasts who see themselves as Different than everyone else but the contrast is that Laura in the early days doesn't understand a lot of social skills and societal rules even if she has some idea she has a hard time following by them. but she Wants So Badly to be like other people, to be Human, she wants to fit in and she tries so hard to because she wants to be good, she wants to be better than her upbringing.
Meanwhile Akihiro has always understood societal rules and expectations, social skills, etc and is able to use them to fit in perfectly into whatever role he is playing at the moment, but he doesn't actually Care about following them at all. He's an outcast who has always viewed himself as being different than everyone else and he doesn't care at all about fitting in or trying to live in human rules. Because he doesn't care about anyone else, he doesn't want to do good, he likes hurting people because he has lost sight of their relevance.
It sets up such an interesting contrast between the two of them, Akihiro can fit in but he doesn't want to, Laura can't fit in but she wants to. Akihiro was groomed to be a killer and it's all he wants to be, Laura was created to be a killer but she wants to be good. Akihiro doesn't understand why Laura wants to do good and wants to fit in when she has such power, Laura doesn't understand why Akihiro limits himself by separating himself from society. They intrigue each other because they come from such similar places but have such different values and goals. But Akihiro is especially intrigued by why she is like this, and seeing this in her is what helped him change to be more like her.

Villain in shining armour | s.v
pairing: german!tutor!dark!rbr!seb x student!reader
warnings: kidnapping, chocking, dacryphilia, manipulation, obsessive behaviour, spitting in mouth, grooming
w/c: 2.2k
summary: walking on the street in the middle of the night was dangerous for a girl your age, but luckily you’re german tutor came for your rescue and saved you — or did he?

You felt eyes watching you. Or at least you imagined them, you weren’t sure.
But it felt like someone was watching you walking home with your heavy backpack, slightly scrapped knees from falling earlier and messy, unmade hair.
You turned around, briefly stopping in the middle of the sidewalk, narrowing your eyes at the darkness, kind of hoping you would maybe be able to make out a figure.
You weren’t crazy, right?
Cars were driving by, but none of them seemed suspicious, none of them slowed down or something like that. And it drove you insane as you just focused on arriving at your dorm which was only five minutes away from now.
You were swearing even though the air was cold, your mind was racing while your heart was beating like never before. You had a bad feeling about all of this.
And that feeling was right.
Suddenly, a old, silver BMW stopped right beside you, a man stepping out of it and making his way towards you.
Tears were already entering your eyes but you released a breath of relief as you saw your German tutor approaching you with quick steps, smiling at you with his typical German charm.
“Y/n?” He spoke up, “What are you doing out here so late? It’s cold and you shouldn’t be outside at that time anymore,” he said, obviously referring to the fact that man are scary.
Honesty, you were glad that he saw you and decided to approach you, you were getting paranoid.
You sighed, “I know,” you mumbled, “but somehow I need to get home don’t I?” You chuckled. “You don’t have a car?” The rather young german asked you, making you shake your head.
“Not yet,” you replied in a quiet tone before you adjusted your heavy backpack.
Why were german books so big and heavy?
No wonder german is so difficult.
Sebastian quickly walked closer to you, “let me-” he didn’t even finish his sentence, Sebastian just removed the heavy backpack from your body, carrying it in his hands now before he opened his car door and gently placed it onto his backseat.
You furrowed your brows before he turned around, looking at you again, “Get in y/n, c'mon… I neither want you to catch a cold nor I want that something happens to you,” he said in a more serious tone, making you raise your brows.
You’ve never heard your tutor talk like that before, “only if you’re comfortable of course, if you-” but you shook your head, cutting him off,
“No! I’m thankful, really! I was growing pretty paranoid — you know… walking around that late in a neighbourhood that is not the safest of all as a girl,” Sebastian nodded along, knowing exactly what you mean, smiling as he did so.
He slowly leaded you to the car, opening the passenger door for you before he got into the drivers seat, starting the engine before you spoke up again, playing with your skirt.
You cleared your throat, “I bet it was nothing but it felt almost like somebody was…watching me like stalking me!” You chuckled to make it seem not so depressing, “I don’t know,” you sighed, “but then you came to my rescue,” you giggled with a smile.
Sebastian's smile fell a bit though, he adjusted himself a bit more in his seat, slowly shoving the binoculars further down his seat with his foot, clearing his throat to cover up the noise a bit.
Obviously, he didn’t wanted to get caught.
“Guess I’m not only your tutor but also your hero now, huh?” He chuckled, showing off his perfect smile in the process.
You shrugged, “Guess so, yeah!” You mumbled with a grin.
Suddenly, the air shifted a bit though.
“Why did you trust me, y/n?” Sebastian asked you all of sudden, making you furrow your brows in confusion, where was this coming from now?
“Uhm,” you thought about your answer, “because I-I know you and you’re a-always nice to-”
“Am I?” Sebastian kept looking at the road as he asked you the question, making you gulp this time.
You only nodded before the German spoke up again, taking you by suprise, “You shouldn’t have trusted me y/n — like c'mon!” He suddenly raised his voice before he slammed his hand down onto the steering wheel, making you jump as tears welled up in your eyes, “why are you trusting a man you got to know like two months ago?” He asked you as if you were a dumb kid.
He sighed, making you briefly look at him, sniffling as you saw his now visibly darker eyes looking angrily at you before he looked ahead again, “You should have never even set a foot in my car, liebling,” Sebastian whispered in a deep tone before your vision went black.
- - -
Waking up with a headache and both of your wrists and ankles tied to a stool in the middle of quite a dark room, was something that every girl your age definitely feared.
Suddenly, you noticed how your German tutor, Sebastian, buttoned his pants back up, quickly jumping up from his stool in the corner of the room as he tucked his white dress shirt back into his dress pants, eyes fixated on you.
This man is utterly disgusting, you almost couldn’t believe it.
“You’re awake,” he said with an almost proud smile as he walked closer to you, making your figure shrink as you started to whine through the tie that’s tied around your mouth.
Sebastian tilted his head to catch your gaze, “finally,” he mumbled under his breath as you tried to get free from the ropes but it was obviously no use.
“Don’t do that!” He raised his voice a bit more, sounding not so gentle anymore, “you’ll hurt your wrists and ankles and I don’t want that, okay?” He raised his brows as you looked up at him with tears in your eyes.
Your tutor's smile slightly fell, “oh no princess,” he whispered in a soft tone, “none of that crying, okay?” He stroked your wet cheek with his thumb, making you gasp and jump, “don’t like to see my pretty little student cry,” he stated gently.
Then you noticed how you desperately whined through the back tie he tied around your mouth, Sebastian frowned a bit, “Oh wait, here! Let me help you, liebling,” the German said before he removed the tie, letting it slide down your neck.
You took deep breaths as he finally removed the small piece of clothing, sniffling with teary eyes as you stared up at your tutor,
“L-Let me go, please…I did n-nothing wrong!” You raised your voice, making him harshly grab your hair and pulling your head back, adjusting his posture a bit to look taller.
You gulped as he roughly pulled your hair, “you did nothing wrong?” He tilted his head to the side,
“You stepped cluelessly with a feeling of relief!, might I add, into my car,” he laughed at you, “seriously thinking that I just saved you! That I’m your hero!” Sebastian smiled wickedly.
You whined, letting your head slightly drop forward, or at least as much as his big hand on the back of your head allowed.
“You know exactly what you did wrong, princess,” he caressed your wet cheek with the back of his knuckles, wiping some of your fresh tears away, “none of that I said, c'mon…this would be all so much easier if you would listen to me,” Sebastian stated with a tiny frown.
You only whined as he pulled your head more upwards again, forcing you to stare up at his standing figure with tired, red eyes.
Sebastian wiped your tears as he looked down at you with no specific facial expression.
“It’s not safe out there, mein liebling,” Sebastian mumbled with a frown, “There are bad, bad man out there nowadays… and those bad man don’t want to to nice things to you, baby,” the young German mumbled quietly.
He cleared his throat before he bend down and opened the ropes of your ankles and wrists, slowly revealing your red and irritated skin.
You slightly furrowed your brows as he finally removed the ropes, grabbing your upper arm and slowly lifting your weak body up, catching you as you almost fell since you were tired, drained and scared.
“Careful, baby,” he muttered before he went on with his little speech from before, “They want very bad things from you… they want to do very bad things to you,” he whispered in a serious tone.
As the German redbull racing driver brushed your hair out of your face and wiped some new fresh tears off of your face, you trembled as you stood so close to him.
“That’s why it’s not safe out there for a pretty, young girl like you, darling,” Sebastian stated with raised brows, “and that’s why I have to keep you safe here— with me,” he nodded along his sentence as he cupped your cheeks, smile slowly forming on his face as your eyes widened.
“W-What?” You quietly gasped as you realised what he just said, gulping as your shaking hands grabbed his wrists, quickly pulling his palms away from your face but Sebastian wasn’t so fond of that.
He immediately threw your hands away before he harshly grabbed your wrists, holding them together with one of his big hands before he slammed your face forward into the wall, running his nose along your temple, lips only slightly touching your ear as he breathed into your ear from behind.
“None of that crying, and none of that bullshit either, haben wir uns verstanden?” you got me? He quietly spat at you from behind as he roughly pressed your arms into your back, making you hiss in pain.
Sebastian's lips touched your ear, scaring you as his hands held your wrists behind your back together, “I’m the only one that can keep you safe from this filthy, disgusting world full of nasty men, mein liebling,” he whispered before he started to kiss some of the tears on your temple away.
You whined and tried to turn your head away from the touch of his lips but he only raised one of his hands and roughly put your head back in place by your jaw.
“What did I say? None of that resisting bullshit, okay?” He mumbled deeply from behind, forcing more tears down your temple that he kissed away while he held your head in place.
Suddenly, you felt him putting both of his hands onto your hair, tying them messily together in a makeshift ponytail, roughly pulling your head backwards by your hair.
You gulped before you gasped as the pain hit you in your scalp, looking up at him now with wide, teary eyes. You couldn’t believe that he was currently smiling down at you.
After shedding a few more tears, you furrowed your brows before he let his hand run up your throat, rough fingers only slightly touching your throat before he placed his visibly bigger hand on your chin, fingers oh so close to your lips.
You bit your inner cheek as he raised his brows, same evil grin still on his face,
“why don’t you open your sweet little mouth for me?” Sebastian muttered quietly in a deep and raspy tone as he played with your bottom lip, making you a shiver run down your spine.
But you couldn’t obey, you were way to scared to do anything at the moment, too nervous that whatever you would do would be wrong.
Sebastian put his hand on your jaw, pulling on your hair as he pulled your head closer while his lips ran along your jaw, making you gasp, “open your mouth, baby — c'mon,” he quietly spat at you in a harsher tone, forcing you to obey this time.
And you did. You licked your lips before you nervously opened your mouth, waiting for him to do something. You just wanted to be over with at this point.
Sebastian briefly chuckled before he squeezed your small jaw with his big hand, slowly leaning forward before he spoke up again,
“Tongue out,” he muttered before he collected to some of his spit in his mouth and spit in your mouth, watching with dark eyes as it ran down your throat.
You felt so helpless, you couldn’t do anything else expect for squeezing your shirt and thinking about how this is not attractive at all, it’s sick and twisted and disgusting — right?
Then he placed his palm on your throat again, carefully watching his spit gliding down your throat while he squeezed your throat, making you gasp.
“Just like that, princess,” Sebastian said in an undertone to you, smile still not leaving his visage, “Gosh… f-fuck,” he mumbled under his breath before you felt him lazily rubbing his crotch area against your ass, making you gulp and gasp.
You stated to whine a bit… why were you feeling this way? You couldn’t explain it, you also didn’t really wanted to.
Sebastian laughed, “Don’t hide it anymore, little one… I know you like it more than you admit it,” he kissed the side of your head, fingers squeezing your throat even harder as he hears your groan and moan, “god please don’t hide those pretty sounds from me — never, okay?”

In your Dreams - Lewis Hamilton x FrenchOlympicBadminton! Reader
Plot: Lewis loves Golfing, Surfing and Skiing, so you’d think if he’d end up with an athlete he’d end up with one in one of his secondary sports. But no, hes with you on the red carpet of the debut of a movie airing about your life and your struggles before becoming the youngest Olympic Gold Medalist in Badminton, and having the most consecutive medals too.
Warning: lots of dark themes and undertones about your backstory in this one’s, specifically abuse in the system, parental pressures, grooming and SA (by an ex partner) etc
Credit to yuzuchupachups for the GIF
Tumblr media
You walked along the red carpet outside the Leicester Square cinema where the exclusive showing of your new movie was occurring.
Lewis couldn’t keep his eyes off of you in that pretty red dress he loved. The moment he saw you in it, his brain had pretty much short-circuited and his only thoughts were off you.
He knew in the red carpet photos you’d be there radiant as ever and he’d be looking at you like some love sick puppy. But he really didn’t care, this was your night and he was here to support you … his fiancé.
“Thank you for being here tonight. I know it wasn’t easy to get time away” you smile up at him, holding him close to you and looking at him with an adoration he saw often. You knew he was busy with the season as it hadn’t started off as Mercedes Gad expected and he was under a lot of pressure from Toto that he’d been feeling overwhelmed most days.
“You know I’d do just about anything for you my Cherie” he said using the nickname you loved.
“I needed you here tonight” you smile pulling him into a kiss, the camera flashes instantly picking up speed and consistency making you giggle into the kiss.
“I know darling” he says keeping his hold on your waist tight as you walk past the photographers and paparazzi posing every now and then when they ask you to stop.
You eventually get to the people interviewing you, happier to be in a calmer than the one at the start of the carpet.
“Y/N it’s amazing to have you here tonight on the premier. Feeling right now?” She asks and a grin comes into your face.
“Amazing, honestly to have my personal story but out in such a raw and public way is such a helpful step for people who maybe or may have suffered the way I have an gives a message of hope to anyone who has ever felt the way I did that the road doesn’t end there!” You nod loving that you will be helping millions of people who have shared the same experience as you.
“So before we go in, tell us a little about the film!” She probes.
“Well, it’s starts on the note of me growing up pretty tough and with no outlook for my future, being tossed from foster to foster home, the hard times and abuse I went through there before I come across Patrick DuPont, who we know very well as my trainer and the main reason I ended up where I am today. It moves through my teens and realising I’m talented and some things and how I was naive enough to not see the manipulation and abuse I was put through as a result of that and how I was used by many. It guides you through my most important relationships with people both the most gnarly and the most pure. It’s a really moving and emotional movie that I know will being lots of people including myself to tears” you explain the rough synopsis to her, making her nod and check her pad in-front of her that an assistant was holding out for her.
“And obviously adding onto those relationships, who will we be seeing a lot of?” She asks and you nod.
“Obviously towards the start in my early childhood, you’ll see a lot of my foster parents and my childhood best friend Emilie Bustlen, as I grow up you meet Patrick and my main foster family. For legal reasons we had to change names around because of this so they are know as the Laurent’s before we meet Hunter Goshill, my ex partner and some of my competitors. Before we finally find a safe haven, in this man right here beside me” you smile pulling Lewis forward and closer to you, he looks a little shocked that he’s now in the full shot of the camera rather than off the the side and has a mic code to him.
“You guys met when Y/N was 19 and you must have been what 25, 26? How did that work in 2011?” She asks knowing that’s when you met.
“Obviously I met Y/N at a race, she was there alone walking through the paddock and I just fell in love with her. Once I worked out who she was having an Olympic gold medal I was introduced to her by my then team principle Martin Whitmarsh and I proceeded to win that race. Was Germany! Obviously the year after she was travelling to London for the Olympics and as my home country of course I came with her as it tied in nicely to my summer break. After that she was the one that convinced me to make the move to Mercedes and apart from proposing to Y/N that’s probably the best thing I’ve ever done” he admits.
“Woah, what a lovers story obviously prior to that, Y/N you were in a if you don’t mind me saying quite a pressured and dare I say toxic relationship with ex partner Hunter?” She asks and you nod looking down for a second before feeling a squeeze on your hand in reassurance.
“I mean it shows it better in the film that I can get into words, but I was very young and naive. I looked for anything that would give me the slightest bit of affection which I would often just confuse with attention. And of course that came from someone who was older than me, and knew how to take advantage of me, without it ever feeling like he had I’ll intentions because I was so desperate to feel. Lewis has thought me many things but being loved the right way is the best thing” you smile looking to your soon to be husband with pure love, no other intentions just two souls mingled together as they should be.
“Really a beautiful couple and a beautiful story, just is heartwarming finding out what you’ve been through and how Lewis has helped break those walls you spent years building. I’m so excited to see this movie, and everyone at home watching this is your sign to get to your local cinema and buy a ticket for In your Dreams: The Story of Y/N Y/L/N ” she smiles.
You nod beofre saying a polite goodbye and heading off.
You answer some more questions, some about the movie some about your goals for 2024 in Paris if you’ll get your 5th gold medal for Team France, some were as trivial as what and who you were wearing.
“God, I just want to go home to Roscoe now” you sigh as you enter the theatre, going to get some treats for you and Lewis while the movie is on.
“I know baby, just a little longer. Then we can get started on our wedding planning hmmm?” He asks looking over you and making you smile and pull him into a passionate kiss, teeth clashing and you pulling him in by the nape of his neck.
You walk past some critics giving them smiles and some small talk before they let you on your way.
You eventually sat with Lewis at the front row will all the cast and directors next to your guys as the film came up on the screen.
It was everything you’d envisioned. Tear jerking, heartwarming and moving. Lewis was brought to tears and many others in the theatre who didn’t know the full extent of your story were coming up to you after the film talking to you about your life and how your success had a whole new meaning to them now.

Note
dear calware, I'm not sure how much you know on the topic of Doc Scratch, but I was wondering, why is the common consensus around him that he's like a creepy pedophile? after rereading his messages with Rose, he seems more tone deaf and weird than a fully on creep. is there something I'm missing?
scratch isn't "literally" a pedophile (or a hebephile, which is the accurate term for this situation) which we know because of this
Tumblr media
but at the same time, that is still the Way he's written
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(i'm sorry if this following explanation is confusing.... i really do not have the right wording to describe it) it's almost like a metaphorical representation. he's a child predator in every way but the actual sexual attraction. the way he's written references the behavior of actual child predators and is meant to signal to the audience that this is the Kind Of Character he is. it's a literary tool(?)to tell the audience that he is literally taking advantage of characters in various ways (as well as straight up abusing damara) while at the time comparing it to child sexual abuse
Tumblr media
but if you do want literal actions on his part, he does Literally groom young girls and they are his targets for manipulation
also, directly from the author commentary (which. is not 100% serious at times. but i do think it sometimes offers some actual insight):
I know I just said a bunch of stuff about [DD] maybe being a creep. But look, this is just my OPINION here. I don't think he's actually being creepy about this. I think he has a genuinely parental attitude toward Aradia and wants to see her succeed in her violent and underhanded schemes. See how he wants them to conduct their business with efficiency? He's way too professional to go Full Doc on these girls.
Another peek at Rose suggests she's still at it with her creepy uncle, Doc Scratch.
Then you have a few beats of conversation which bring Equius to mind, such as the creep-factor
[Dirk and Equius] have this creepy-guy streak running through them, with strange or offputting interests, and seem to get a quiet kick out of making others uncomfortable through demonstrations of these fascinations. [...] I'd say these self-examined qualities are just drawn out, isolated, and inflated both for dramatic effect, and also as critical write-up of those qualities existing within many human beings in general, which I would like to think is grounded in a creative process involving a certain degree of humility about some of this bullshit. I like all these characters here, but that doesn't mean I think their unpleasant qualities are good. It just means I am harnessing and heightening those qualities for creating strong villainous portraits.
We start getting the sense that the entire purpose of this conversation, from Doc's vantage point, is just to passive-aggressively manipulate Rose into peering directly into one of his cursed testicles. Wait, my youth pastor is literally barking like a dog right now for some reason. Probably because I put him on a leash and tied him to a post in the backyard. I guess I fucked up again? I mean one of Doc's seeds.
Maybe it's fair to say I have a higher than average tolerance troubling content. But even I have to admit to shuddering a little when I read Doc's creepy lines toward Rose. I think Doc's creep factor toward girls is most likely channeling part of Caliborn's personality, which almost seems to revolve around his horrid attitude toward women. For Caliborn, this weird combination of wrathful misogyny, yet fixation and obsession with certain girls, is obviously central to the type of real-world profile he's meant to portray. But when his personality is more muted among the collective in Doc's head, those qualities come across as more "restrained," "polite," and "flattering," which arguably just makes it all creepier. The result is a creepy dude profile that also exists in the real world, sort of adjacent to the Full Caliborns out there. There seem to be many stripes of this kind of unfortunate male behavior, which all exists in a broader family of sub-Caliborns. The Docs, the Eridans, the Cronuses… They're all sketchy in different ways.
Doc sitting back just to "watch" is another creepy Equiusism. Remember that was a thing with him.
I wonder what Jade would think if she knew she had in her possession since childhood one of Doc's testicORACLES!!! Oracles. The word I meant to say was oracles, not anything else. Anyway, like I was saying, how would Jade react if she realized every time she played with one of her beloved toys, she was actually fondling this weirdo's plump, juicy oracle. I know you think my youth pastor may have something to do with this peculiar outburst, but you're wrong. I "dismissed" him recently, because he told me with great pride that I learned everything he had to teach me. I don't need anyone to keep me from shoving my foot in my mouth anymore, I'm sure you'll be pleased to know. Now let's watch this grieving teen receive a demonic message from an evil puppet's big fat nut.
bonus commentary from book 6 that has nothing to do with the post:
We're reaching a specific kind of story partition. Not the end of an act, but the end of a year. Also an end of "disc," which is a kind of meta-partitioning I just made up for the purpose of closing the book on two years of content, as well as being a good meta-device for introducing the Doc sequence we're about to get into in the next book.
"next book"...... sad

A slightly unhinged ramble-rant on Chairman Rose and how people are missing the entire point of SWSH.
Like, I keep seeing it pop up--like a fucking rank smell you only detect if you’re in a certain place when the wind is blowing in the certain direction--but man does it not bewilder me. Like, these guys who post tags like ‘Chairman Rose is a bad guy but is not a BAD guy’ or ‘I kind of agreed with Chairman Rose’ are just. Are you high?? Did you entirely miss the point of his character?? Did you completely miss the main plot of SWSH?
I’m going to be talking about some heavy shit (including non-sexual child grooming and non-sexual child predation), so I’m gonna put the rest under a read more, let me just say that the theme of SWSH is the relationship between adults and children on their Pokemon journeys, the responsibilities adults have towards children, and what happens when that relationship is abused.
First off, before I get some know-it-all coming at me about how there’s no evidence that Rose is a child predator or a groomer, let me just say there is. Is he a Chris Hansen ‘take a seat for me’ groomer?? No, he’s not, because child grooming is not purely a sexual thing.
Per a very informative article:
“Grooming can be sexual, romantic, financial or for criminal or terrorism purposes, and can target both children and adults. The common aspect is that a perpetrator manipulates a victim by building trust and rapport. The key to grooming is a power dynamic within the relationship: age, gender, physical strength, economic status or another factor.”
Now, with that out of the way, I’m not going to go into shit that’s super obvious to anyone with eyes, but Rose is a serial child groomer. Like, his most obvious victim is Leon, and it’s really wild that people can’t see it?? Like, Leon obviously comes from a fucked-up home situation with a mother who’s absent and neglectful at best (and the people who don’t seem to realize this REALLY confuse me). Like, he has canonically raised his little brother in a house with three adults that could have done the job for him, and the anime literally stated that he was so busy raising Hop and taking care of household chores that he could barely interact with other kids. He was endorsed by Chairman Rose at an age that is implied to be at least two years younger than the average Gym Challenger, and--per the sub of the PokeAni--Rose literally raised him from the moment he became Champion.
(Where was Leon and Hop’s mother during this, you ask? Obviously being terrible at home, since despite Leon being run ragged for all of his life and rarely being home, he still somehow raised his little brother. Let that sink in.)
So Leon has spent his entire life being moulded into Rose’s delusion of the Hero of Galar for the sole purpose of sacrificing himself to defeat Eternatus to stave off an energy crisis that will happen in a millennium and probably would be averted with solar power. THE SUB IN THE POKEANI LITEARLLY HAS ROSE TELLING LEON THAT HE HAS GROOMED HIM FOR THE EXACT PURPOSE OF TAMING ETERNATUS. I’M NOT MAKING THIS UP. I WILL PROVIDE SCREENSHOTS IF ASKED.
Does he know Leon may likely fucking die in the attempt? He sure does, because he’s already started to work on grooming Leon’s replacements! In the game, Bede is a trainer who came from a neglectful home situation who was noticed by the Chairman and given his endorsement for the Gym Challenge wait hold on that sounds really familiar.
Really, REALLY familiar.
Rose’s ploy with taking away Bede’s gym challenger endorsement after Bede literally did what he asked him to was a clear manipulation tactic, and if it hadn’t been for Opal intervening (and she ABSOLUTELY has Rose’s number and you can’t convince me otherwise), the tactic likely would have worked, because Bede would have done anything to get his endorsement back.
(Also Oleana is absolutely the fall girl set up to look like an obstructive villain while Rose can maintain his veneer of innocence. That’s a topic for another day tho.)
AND THEN. in the anime, he flat out tries to do this with Ash. AND IN THE GAME, HE TRIES TO DO THIS WITH THE MC, LIKE BEDE IS HIS PLAN B AND THE PC IS HIS PLAN C. However, the only child Rose has regular chances to interact with who DOES NOT get the manipulation treatment is Hop. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Chairman always tries to pull shit with you when Hop isn’t around, and the two times he DOES interact with Hop are at the very end of the game where Leon’s been forced into trying to stop the apocalypse and after the Opening Ceremony.
What’s different about the Opening Ceremony, though? LEON IS STANDING RIGHT OVER ROSE’S SHOULDER SMILING STEPFORDLY. Which brings me to my next point: why Rose pulls his end game bullshit.
Leon is now in his early 20s, so he has obviously started to ask for his own agency and say no to things. He has also obviously realized that he does NOT want Rose around his brother, which is why he is fucking looming over Rose’s shoulder when he meets Hop and why Rose almost seems to deliberately avoid Hop for the rest of the game. Rose knows that if he so much as messes with Hop, Leon is going to absolutely turn on him, and he’s already become obstinate enough to be a problem. Rose is losing control of Leon, which is why he’s grooming his potential replacements.
It’s also why Rose LITERALLY HOLDS LEON HOSTAGE IN A TOWER. Like, I am amazed that people haven’t seemed to realize that Hop and the MC were ABSOLUTELY rescuing Leon from a hostage situation. Leon had been on top of the tower with Rose for HOURS at that point, and given Oleana’s personal fucking army and how much Leon clearly did not want to be up there, it’s obvious that there wasn’t a way he could easily extricate himself from the situation. What you do hear from his meeting with Rose sounds a lot like a guy trying to say no while also trying to de-escalate a volatile situation: almost like a victim to their abuser oh wait.
(Oleana also says that the reason she wants to defeat you and Hop is to break Leon’s spirit so he won’t have the strength to say no to the Chairman anymore. Like, that’s literally in game. It’s dialogue.)
So yeah. You’re rescuing a prince from a tower who’s being held hostage by an evil king trying to use the prince’s special power for nefarious purposes. This game is full of fairy tale metaphors. Like, a ton.
When you and Hop show up, you basically force Rose to let Leon go so as to not look like a complete fucking monster or cause a scandal, and Leon basically very politely tells Rose to ‘fuck off’ when he leaves.
So Rose--this narcissistic, megalomaniacal child groomer, who’s basically been shut down by the lynch pin of his plan--does the absolute most rational thing and RELEASES THE APOCALYPSE DEMON OUT OF SPITE. He literally says on a screen in front of Galar that oh no, his releasing Eternatus and causing the Second Darkest Day is actually all LEON’S fault for being so unreasonable and unrealistic. It’s manipulation. It’s emotional abuse. It’s Rose punishing his victim for saying no. It’s Rose throwing a tantrum because Leon told him to wait another week before doing something about something that would happen in a millennium.
Bede made a fool of Rose doing exactly what Rose and Oleana wanted him to do, so he punished him. Leon said no, so he punished him, and punished all of Galar while he was at it. He’s not doing shit for the good of Galar. He’s doing it for himself.
See, the game’s story exists to debate the relationship between adults and children in the Pokemon world. For generation after generation of games, children as young as ten have gone out in the big wide world with nothing but their starter and a Pokedex, and the adults they have met have never had any poor intentions towards them specifically. Yes, there’s all the evil teams and blah blah blah, but they weren’t targeting you, the child MC. You were just caught up in their messes. SWSH is the first game to show that no, there are adults who will try to take advantage of you because you are a child, and there are good adults who will try to protect you.
Opal protects Bede. Leon protects you and Hop. Leon has obviously gotten old enough to realize that what Rose did to him was wrong, and he tries so fucking hard through the whole game to protect you and his little brother from his boss’s machinations and all the bad shit happening in the world. I know people bitch about being ‘railroaded’ and not allowed to participate in the ‘plot’ until the end, but that’s the point. The good adults are trying to protect the children from the bad adults trying to harm them, and the children intervene only when the adults die trying to save them. Children should be allowed to adventures and have fun, but they should also be protected and shielded from shit that can harm them and shit they’re not old enough to understand, and this game--for better or for worse--is trying to strike that balance.
One last, very important thing. Leon’s life had been micromanaged and controlled from the moment he became Champion by Chairman Rose. He had to become all things to Galar--its fucking policeman, it’s regional hero, it’s unbeatable symbol of perfection, it’s hero, and--almost--its messiah--and when the MC becomes a Champion? He doesn’t hesitate to become Chairman, and he tells you--the new Champion--that your job is to explore and have fun. He doesn’t ask you to do sponsorship deals. He lets you do matches and tournaments at your own leisure. He calls you politely to ask if you want to do the Galarian Star Tournament. He doesn’t even know your PHONE NUMBER and I think about that a lot.
The game is about the responsibilities adults have towards children. It’s about how you don’t have to be the main character to be the hero. It’s about how you can’t and shouldn’t do everything alone. It’s about how child predation and abuse don’t have to be obvious or ‘traditional’ to be real and a threat. Finally, as Leon demonstrates so poignantly, it’s about breaking the cycle of abuse.
And THAT’S why SWSH is one of the best stories--if not THE best--that the Pokegames have ever told, regardless of its faults and the National Dex and a berry tree looking a little weird.

Emma D'Arcy's words about Daemyra and Daemon :
"Daemon is a deeply problematic character. Seeing Rhaenyra being seduced and manipulated as a child by her uncle confirms this, and prevents the public from blinding the public to the problematic nature of their relationship." - Emma D'arcy .
Tumblr media
So Emma… I love you as an actor but a few things to point out.
Daemon is a gray character. People need to stop trying to turn him into a villain, or at least amplify his dark side. I'm not saying Daemon isn't a problematic character. There are aspects of it, yes. Obviously, since he's a gray character. But generally the members of the series tend to associate these problematic aspects with things that don't have to be. As does (as Emma D'arcy said so well) that apparently Daemon seduced/groom a child Rhaenyra.
So, you should know that large age differences are common in feudal times and in the world of ASOIAF. Literally, Daemyra is no exception in this. In fact, it even seems to me that they are among the couples with the least age difference in Martin's universe. In the book, when Rhaenyra is a child, Daemon seems to love her in a classic family mode. Nothing indicates anything to move in their relationship. When she is 7/8 years old Daemon is exiled by Viserys and he does not return to Kings Landing until Rhaenyra is 14 years old, without having had any contact with her before or in recent years. Here, by Westeros standards, Rhaenyra is actually a marriage-ready adult, likely already being courted by men far older than Daemon. So that Daemyra had an affair in the 6 months following Daemon's return is nothing shocking or fundamentally problematic (especially when he's not even sure they slept together) Unless you trust Mushroom's version of course. But, it's well known, trusting Mushroom is universal bullshit. The age difference in this universe inspired by feudal times, not to mention the fact of getting married young, is literally the norm. If you accuse Daemon of being problematic in attempting to seduce/woo/marry a 14 year old Rhaenyra, or worse, being a pedophile (what is particularly ridiculous), well know that you are accusing almost all the men and women of this universe and time of being, when in the end it's just about different mores. In this scenario, Daemon is not an attacker. He is simply one of the men trying to woo Rhaenyra. Not to mention the fact that he didn't see her grow up at all due to her exile, which makes the whole thing even less problematic than it might seem to a modern audience. Yes, Daemon knew Rhaenyra as a child, but he didn't see her grow up, that's the nuance. George made sure this didn't happen. He did not see her go from a child to a young woman, because yes, I remind you, adolescence in this context does not exist, there is only childhood and adulthood.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a man who actually saw Rhaenyra grow up in the book, who was extremely and actively close to her throughout this evolution, and finally tried his luck with her once she was older, like 16 years old, and who is suspected (as Alicent did for example, when she hated Rhaenyra) of having had harmful intentions towards her, especially from the age of 13… Which obviously sounds like something particularly creepy… Well you have Ser Criston Cole, knight and protector of Rhaenyra ! So placed in a position of trust in relation to her when she was 7/8 years old. Not to mention that Rhaenyra was apparently under the spell of Criston Cole from that age and that's why she wanted him as her personal knight. Obviously, this aspect of the character of Criston Cole has been completely evacuated in the series with the changes of age. But if you're looking for a man in the book who might fit into the “grooming” category or at least come close to it in his relationship with Rhaenyra, well it's actually Criston Cole. Not Daemon.
And even if Daemon would have seen Rhaenyra grow up, as is ultimately the case in the series, remember that the two are part of an incestuous family. Thus, that they end up getting married does not necessarily mean that Daemon would have tried to seduce Rhaenyra as a child. This idea is based on literally nothing. Moreover, absolutely nothing indicates in the series, contrary to what Emma D'arcy says, that Daemon tried to seduce and manipulate Rhaenyra when she was a child / that he had harmful intentions towards her in this time there. At most, he just seems to have unconscious feelings for her in the first episode when she is apparently 14 years old according to Rhaenyra's words in episode 10… Except that in episode 2, 6 months older late after episode 1, Viserys says that Rhaenyra is 16 years old… Yeah the directors and writers weren't very well done chronologically I think. Anyway, officially Rhaenyra is 19 years old in episode 4 ! You know, the age at which Daemon tries to seduce her in the series…
Tell me Emma, I didn't know that 19 was still being a child, you're teaching me a great thing there ! You too have messed up on the level of the sea chronology… ?
Rhaenyra was an adult at the time, whether by the laws of Westeros, or ours. She also consciously wanted to fuck with her uncle in this episode, no doubt, and has done so probably even since episode 1. However, Daemon didn't do anything in particular to seduce her until this episode 4. Mysaria was literally his mistress in the first 2 episodes. And no, Daemon offering Rhaenyra a necklace is not evidence of grooming. According to the book, Daemon has been showering Rhaenyra with gifts since she was little, it's just a habit he's picked up with her. And no, it wasn't creepy or sexual ! In the first episode, as I said, Daemon seemed to harbor unconscious or repressed feelings towards Rhaenyra without actually engaging in any type of seduction with her. Then he seems to realize his interest in her in episode 2 when she challenges him, and he has feelings for her in episode 4. It's as simple as that.
Also, we can't be certain that Daemon was actively shoved into Rhaenyra's paws during her youth/childhood either in the series. At the start of episode 1, Rhaenyra tells Daemon that it's literally been an eternity since he's been seen in court, and from what has been shown of Daemon's character, that he doesn't really seem to fit in with the nobles and his opinion that the court just happens to be deadly boring, well that would ultimately indicate that he spends very little time there, and therefore Rhaenyra wouldn't have not the pleasure of his company that often. I mean, he's not called, "Prince of the City" for nothing. Without forgetting the 3 years when Daemon goes to war in the Stepstones. A little crappy for someone trying to groom Rhaenyra…
Not to mention no, the situation between Daemyra in episode 4 is not grooming. It's a form of seduction and manipulation to some degree, yes, but not grooming. Already, because it's an event that happens over the course of an evening, and grooming is a fairly precise process that generally takes time, but also and above all, because Rhaenyra is not a child, not even a teenager, she is an adult, whether again by Westeros standards or ours. In addition, besides the fact that Daemon does not manage to go to the end negatively speaking with Rhaenyra, due to obvious guilt and realization of feelings, well he is not doing a fundamentally bad act in itself, he is to nuanced, as the actions of a gray character should be instead of demonized. In this episode, thanks to Daemon, Rhaenyra learns and sees what sexual pleasure can be, that she can find joy and independence in it. Not simply to be cloistered in the “duty” that is marriage, and that despite that she can always take what she really wants. So something positive in itself, and who served her.
You really need to stop with all that Daemon bullshit trying to seduce/groom a child Rhaenyra, because it's literally based on nothing. Actors and directors should really shut up when they talk about the show. Especially since once again, they seem to forget that the age difference is a common thing in this universe. For exemple, Rhaenys and Corlys in the show are promoted as a good couple as Rhaenys was 16 and Corlys 37 when they got married according to the book. Strangely, here the age difference has never challenged or disturbed anyone. It's hypocrisy to point out the age difference specifically between Daemyra as problematic (worse, not to quote, to see outright voluntarily erase the other age differences between couples judged/shown as "good", while the difference is worse than Daemyra for precisely putting a negative emphasis especially on them for x reasons) when in the book and Martin's universe in general, well, they don't particularly stand out for that, and that there are even worse than them. And no one seems to see these relationships as problematic because of these age differences, which shows the obvious bias of some against Daemyra… Not to mention that I love how much the directors and actors (except Matt Smith, because he has a working brain) love to recall the problematic aspects around Daemyra, to the point of forgetting that they are telling a story in a feudal fantasy universe, but besides never touching on Alicent's deeply toxic relationship and Rhaenyra, talking only about the tragedy that separates them and the love they still seem to have despite all the crap (which I won't name, because others have done it much better than I can't do it, and I'm too lazy) that Alicent put Rhaenyra through. But I guess that's it when the show is partly written by idiots… ?
That's all I had to say on the subject. Please feel free to share your opinion respectfully. Cheers !

Marvin in this panel makes me, like, more sick than Marvin usually makes me lmao
Tumblr media
One thing that I don't personally acknowledge as much as I probably should is that Ash was not just repeatedly assaulted, as we're all obviously aware, but he was specifically groomed as well. We see this a lot with Dino, of course, with his "You know I love you, sweetheart" and "I raised you" type language toward Ash.
We can also assume that Ash's coach did the same grooming tactics, considering that everyone in the town (including Ash) trusted him, and that he specifically had a position working with children. Ash was an especially vulnerable target even back then -- the only person who cared left for the war.
We see Marvin do the same thing here, even when Ash is seventeen. (Remember that Marvin and Ash had already had a very established relationship three years prior, during Private Opinion when Ash was fourteen. Ash was terrified of Marvin at the time.)
The point that I want to make with this is that I think this is key to understanding Ash's mindset. Yes, he was physically and sexually abused his whole life, which would have an impact on anyone's mindset. In addition to that, he was also mentally and emotionally manipulated his whole life.
Look at Marvin's words here: "I didn't mean to do that." First establishing that he's not at fault for hurting Ash. Then, "You know I didn't mean it?" Leading questions for Ash to agree that it wasn't Marvin's fault.
Then he takes it a step further: "All you gotta do is be good. Otherwise, sometimes you have to get rough." He moves from just pushing the blame away from himself, and places it fully on Ash.
Remember that Ash has heard messages like this his entire life. It's always that he wasn't good enough, that he did something wrong. It's always always always his fault.

On the Subject of CatNap and the Prototype...
...if we look at it from an actual cult-of-a-god perspective, the Prototype might have "cared" about CatNap but in the way that a Cult Leader cares about their Most Loyal Follower. Yes, the Leader is concerned about said follower and will be a friend when required, because the Follower is a most important piece to the Leader, but in the end, they will be used like an object when ready.
During the official Poppy Platime music video, "Sleep Well," we can see how the Living Toys were like during those 10 long years, happy at first, but then eventually realizing they're still trapped to some degree. We knew from pre-CatNapped Theo that the kid didn't get along with others, and only had one "official" friend: The Prototype. Theo got pretty attached to them from their compassion towards him, even putting each others lives at risk, and post-CatNapped Theo kept that attachment over the years. He may have eventually made arm's-length friends, but obviously none of them meant as much as the Prototype did, suggesting the need for a guide or guardian was embedded in Theo from an early age and eventually evolved into worship.
CatNap may have felt trapped still like the others, but his desperation for something to believe in, and his relationship with the Prototype, makes his belief in the Prototype bottomless, which is worth something to them to get to their end-goal. The Prototype doesn't want to lose that facet quickly, thus the grooming (as in manipulation to get something you want) was continuous until death. CatNap willingly gave himself to the Prototype because they essentially motioned that CatNap's final purpose was to die for him, and he did with no hesitation. CatNap was not just a tool to the Protoype, but an important and priceless tool that required emotional and mental maintenance.
At least, that's what my itch is telling me. We don't really know for sure until we know more about the Prototype's personality and overall goal.

A lot of people prefer other MegOP continuities where they were friends before the war started, and I get the appeal of that because it means that there’s ~history~ and bad blood/high stakes between the war and Megatron/Optimus’ personal relationships. And I’ve heard some people remark about IDW1 that it lacks “history” between Megatron and Optimus. But I don’t think the appeal of IDW1 MegOP is about them having history as in an established relationship, I think the appeal is about the parallelism between them, and the way that they’re both incredibly charismatic figures who ended up enemies not only by virtue of their strength and beliefs, but also because they were molded into leaders by people before them and there’s this almost “inevitable destiny” aspect of it.
Like, you DO have Megatron and Orion encountering each other in Rodion, Orion is the reason that Megatron is freed from custody and didn’t end up beaten to death by Whirl. He read Megatron’s writings and was compelled by them, eventually realized that Megatron was right and stormed the Senate on his behalf. Orion credits Megatron as one of the people who inspired him. Although Megatron doesn’t really think about Orion at first, we do know that Megatron found out about Orion’s Senate speech and seemed to find it impressing, intriguing, amusing at the very least. Megatron seems to have felt as if Orion was wasted working for Zeta instead of the actual revolution.
But like, set aside the MegOP relationship with each other. You have Orion being taken under the wing of first Shockwave and then Zeta, and both of their friendship/mentorship pushed him towards this idea of Orion (later Optimus) as an inspiring figure of heroism that could save Cybertron. You have Megatron and Terminus, who was lowkey manipulative towards Megatron and was obviously trying to groom him into a leadership figure. It was Terminus’ words about how ‘there’s only one seat at the table’ and how people need a leader to guide them that planted the seeds of tyranny into Megatron’s mind, the belief that HE needs to be in charge and HIS vision for Cybertron is the most important.
What this leads to is that, when you think about it, both Megatron and Optimus were MADE, not born, into the charismatic leaders they became. They had natural talents, sure, but it was the influence of their mentor figures that exaggerated their best/worst traits and turned them into two people who became so charismatic that people were willing to follow them into a 4 million year war just because both of them inspired so much trust in their followers.
I don’t even know if I’m making sense any more. Just... Megatron and Optimus as both players and pawns in the game of history. Megatron and Optimus being shaped by their mentors as much as they shaped their own destinies for themselves. Megatron and Optimus being so similar but coming from places that were too dissimilar, both full of convictions that neither one would bend on. The way that they’re both creators of history as well as victims of it, each in their own unique way, but they share the same isolation of being at the top.

omg no i would never ever be transmisogynistic. i love transfems, i'm even trans myself! see, i'm actually protecting my community from a gross perverted man who's pretending to be women in order to invade trans spaces. it's just part of his disgusting sexual fetish.
obviously he isn't a real woman, he's just trying to get off on it. he really needs psychological help for his issues, you know. god, he's so sick, enjoying things like wearing dresses. don't you know he's trying to nonconsensually trick us real trans folk into supporting his nasty, violating kink for womanhood? don't you know he's just talking about womanhood in order to get access to his grooming victims? don't you know he's been friendly towards minors while masquerading as a real trans person, as part of his plan to manipulate children into his vile & perverted fetish?
what? of course i'm safe for trans women to be around! i love women.

Hello,
This isn't exactly a question, but just something I’ve felt like saying for a while. I just wanted to let you know that your posts about Palpatine and Anakin’s relationship are really refreshing. Speaking as a die-hard Palpatine fangirl, I have to say it is very rare to find anyone who realizes what a complex character he is and knows that he has a human side. So many of even his own fans simply like him because he’s (supposedly) pure evil, and that makes him cool. So thank you for your great posts and for actually understanding him.
Hi Thank you :)
I am glad you like my take on Palpatine, I believe he is a character not very explored by the fandom or even official media, he is usually characterized as the evil Emperor which is ok, he is fun, that´s a completely fair take for him because Lucas did write him that way in the original trilogy even if he gave him some nuances but he wasn´t truly explored until the PT.
What I found fascinating about him were the layers Ian McDiarmird and Lucas managed to give him in the prequel trilogy, this doesn´t mean I believe he was right or that he wasn´t the main villain of star wars but he was still human and it´s interesting to explore the story from his pov, because while I believe what he did, he did for power obviously, his character needed to have other talents to be able to fool so many characters in the prequel trilogy and become such a respected politician even by the founders of the rebellion and members of the Jedi Order but I especially like to explore his relationship to Anakin, the character closest to him in both trilogies.
For example, I always found interesting Sidious relationship with Padme in the first movie, he wasn´t just Naboo´s Senator but also Padme´s political mentor, he underestimated her and expected her to give up inmediately, which was a mistake and that was how she, along with Anakin, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon managed to stop his plans of starting a civil war for at least 10 years but he didn´t do so again, and despite the fact that he doesn´t have warm feelings towards her, I believe he respected her as a political rival.
He is the ultimate sith lord but he also is someone who likes art and seems to be able to read everybody around him like a book, you can´t do that if your understanding of people is superficial, he understands human emotion and motives, and more than his powers in the force,I believe his manipulative skills are by far the scarier part of his character, because he truly managed to get the political support of the Jedi Order and Bail Organa in the Second movie, you can´t do that if you don´t work with issues the republic already had and had causes those groups would support.
Finally his relationship with Anakin is openly toxic, is about him grooming a little kid to become his perfect apprentice, a little kid that comes with a prophecy that says he is going to stop his plans and maybe become Palpatine´s killer but this grooming took him 13 years of his life, you can´t spend years of your life espending time with someone and not be a little bit attached, Palpatine didn´t have family left or children of his own and Anakin was a trusting, loving kid starving for affection, you can be evil all you like but the fact that in ROTS novel Anakin knew Sidious pastimes and admired his political skills while also feel the need to defend the Jedi Order from him, the fact Palpatine knew exactly what kind of ship models Anakin liked, that he took time to mentor him in politics, tells that despite the horrible manipulation taking place there, there was a little bit of genuine feelings from Palpatine towards Anakin which unfortunately also came with a need for control, because Palpatine is a sith and they are possesive in their love.
The fact Palpatine calls Anakin Son while Anakin thinks of him as family and in the end the Emperor uses all the skills in the force and his personal resources to keep Anakin alive after Mustafar, that is something I don´t believe he would have done for Dooku or Maul and he raised Maul, which has it´s own implications.
The fact they are not only master and apprentice but subtly have called each other family directly or indirectly, it adds a whole other layer to them as main antagonists and villains, the fact Lucas point blank said Vader still loved the Emperor on ROTJ, despite the fact he made him fight his Son and it makes sense, you can´t spend 20 years of your life supporting someone you thought as family/leader and not have feelings about it as much as a sith you may be, that goes for both of them, this nuance tells that you can be a villain, commit evil acts and still have this little space for humanity and need for contact that not even the Emperor was safe from. He only let down his guard for Vader in ROTJ.
I just find it fascinating how between Anakin´s loved ones Shmi, Padme, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Rex, etc Palpatine was one of them and that while it was the result of manipulation and grooming, it also had some genuine elements. I could see a time travel story in which Anakin/Vader Post ROTJ tries to do for Palpatine what Luke did for him and be serious about it while also doing everything in his power to stop his plans from happening.
This kind of nuance is hard to get from a story like star wars with the main villain yet Lucas, Stover and Ian managed to do so and I like to explore the implications of this and I believe that´s what makes Palpatine cool as a character.

me, who has too many thoughts about cult-ish Kresnik clan: pls tell me about cult-like Elysia 👀
OK SO.
This is gonna get long because as usual I am overexplaining and it's also very angsty because there is something wrong w me but you asked so here you go!!
tw for possession and cult behavior:
I have to preface this by saying that this cult!Elysia AU is part of a general darker Zesty AU where the biggest fundamental difference is that prolonged exposure to malevolence causes seraphim to straight up not exist rather than turning them into dragons (it still turns humans into hellions though). They can withstand it better if they have a pure vessel but since it causes them to become less and less corporeal over time it's better in seraphic culture to have a vessel with its own mobility like, say, a living thing (or a goblin cart but that's a different story XD). This has obviously caused a very different dynamic between humans and seraphim, as humans are unknowingly wiping out the seraphim that would have been blessing them and restoring peace to their own declining societies, while seraphim see humans as little more than plague-ridden beasts to be avoided at all costs.
Thus how we get to cult!Elysia, established by Zenrus on a mountain far away from human settlements to avoid their malevolent contamination. After he witnessed the fall of the last Shepherd and the general shit-show that is Camlann, Zenrus gave up on humanity and twisted the myth of the Shepherd into one of the seraphim's ultimate weapon, a human that could be manipulated via armatus and used to wage war against his fellow humans. There's plenty of disgruntled seraphim around seeking shelter and revenge to join his cause, and two kids, one human one seraph, who could easily be indoctrinated and groomed for this purpose. I'm sure you know who those two are ^^'
At first Sorey and Mikleo buy into what they're told; I mean, they're isolated on a mountain and these are their only guardians so how could they not? Sorey's not too keen on the methods though, mainly because in order to be able to armatize someday they have to improve his resonance via pacts and possession, which has the same toll on his body that it originally did in canon. Mikleo, meanwhile, is assigned as Sorey's primary caretaker since they're the same age and even though they're preserving this vessel to stay "pure" there's still a lot of disdain toward humans in general; this is not a desired task. And Mikleo resents his job at first but as he spends more time with Sorey it becomes pretty evident that humans have the same feelings and intelligence of seraphim, that they're not "lesser" or "dirty." Before long he starts doing his job too well, ie. trying to keep Sorey healthy by not letting the other seraphim abuse him and make him sick again. His protests are not appreciated and are mostly ignored.
With Sorey's health frequently compromised, the two spend a lot of time indoors talking or reading books Mikleo swiped from Gramps's house. It seems Zenrus broke rule number one of Cult Formation because some of the books they read have ideas that go outside of the cult's ideology, namely that the purpose of the Shepherd is supposed to be as a bridge between humans and seraphim and that coexistence between the two is not only possible but highly prosperous for both (sidebar, Zenrus owns those books because he used to believe in those things! alas!). Of course once they start talking about this and asking questions their reading material is confiscated and burned, except for a copy of the Celestial Record that Sorey stashed under his pillow. It remains their favorite talking point as they imagine a less malevolent-y future where they could leave the mountain and explore these places for themselves.
As the two grow older they internalize their experiences and reject their ideology in different ways: Sorey is rather quiet and withdrawn from the years of abuse and resulting learned helplessness, except when he's alone with Mikleo in which he talks his ear off. He still has pure feelings of wanting to be the Shepherd, just the one from the books not the sermons. Mikleo however is more rebellious, fiercely loyal toward Sorey, and wants to just run away with him somewhere beyond the reach of the Elysians OR humans. He's been practicing the Spectral Cloak arte in secret so they might be able to escape with it one day.
Ok I'm almost done since most of this AU is just backstory anyway but there is the usual inciting incident: on a rare day where they're allowed to explore the nearby temple, Sorey and Mikleo meet the human Alisha, who came searching for a seraph to potentially bless her city, as the corruption in Ladylake runs deep and she believes in the old legends of seraphic blessing bringing prosperity. As far as the two can tell, this human seems harmless and polite, reinforcing their ideas from the texts that humans aren't inherently bad. She also mentions a festival in honor of the Shepherd, though humans see the title and action of drawing the sword as more of a ceremonial sign of divine leadership and right to be king rather than a specific connection to seraphim, since most humans don't believe in them. Sorey is fascinated by this but Mikleo doesn't want to hear about it; he's still struggling to dissociate the title of Shepherd from Gramps's twisted agenda that's hurting Sorey.
At any rate, they recommend that she stay away from here; the seraphim here aren't going to help and are more likely to put her down like a rabid raccoon. But even with her departure Lunarre still shows up, not unnoticed by the Elysians this time, and while fighting him Zenrus is finally able to enact a full armatus with Sorey and kills the hellion. The rest of Elysia celebrates, as this means the time has finally come to begin their war on humanity, but to Sorey and Mikleo it means the timetable for escaping has been bumped up from "whenever Mikleo has perfected the Spectral Cloak" to "TONIGHT."
And that's pretty much the full background for this AU, the rest of it is pretty sparse but does involve stealing Gramps's pipe as an act of rebellion, an edgy, angsty lil Mikleo who thinks his whole race are monsters (he did that whole paradigm-shift thing where he swung from one extreme belief to the opposite extreme belief), and a potential plot line where Zenrus tries to hunt them down. He didn't raise these kids for 17 years to let them wander off before the final showdown, after all.
Anyway thanks for reading this far, I love being invited to share my soul-crushingly angsty WIPs that I can never actually write or finish. I hope it was interesting and relevant to your own interests! feel free to share your Kresnik thoughts as well, fucked-up fantasy cults are fun :D

im curious since aemond was going to be aegon’s hand what was otto’s plan then? he wouldn’t have been the hand so he wouldn’t have as much (outright) power.
like i have no doubt he still would’ve been trying to control things but it would’ve been harder for him to do what he’s doing now.
i wonder if he was planning to “talk them out” of making aemond his hand maybe try to give him another position though i don’t think aegon or aemond would like that at all.
ooh yes great question! one good thing to consider here is that aemond is, by far, the child that has always been the easiest for otto to control. obviously he's not quite anymore in stormbreak, but a lot has happened that no one, even otto, would have ever really anticipated.
aemond is a people pleaser by nature. he is deeply insecure and feels like no one around him will love him if he doesn't anticipate their every preference and need and fulfill it before they even have to ask. (this is a contrast to aegon, who has that same insecurity but has a "why bother trying if i'm gonna fail anyways" mentality.) and aemond's desire to be loved is almost exclusively directed towards the authority figures in his life: alicent, criston, and yes, even otto.
viserys was an absent father, and aemond scrambled as a child to try to fill the void left behind. criston definitely became a father figure to him because he taught him how to fight, and because he was in a partnership role with aemond's mother. but i do think otto was a father figure and mentor to aemond as well when it came to politics and education.
aemond and alicent's relationship is very obviously codependent, and aemond bases much of his worldview (love for family, duty, religion, etc.) directly off of her. and we see that younger alicent clung to and cared deeply for her father. obviously by the end of season one she'd become a bit more independent, but the fact remains that for aemond's formative years alicent would have still been very much obedient to otto.
aemond and alicent are otto's two most reliable pawns for a reason. he's known them for their entire lives and has been manipulating them for just as long. so otto has groomed aemond to basically rule in aegon's stead for a reason: he knows he'll always have more sway over aemond than he will over aegon.
hope this helps!

Can you talk about the hot demon (?) lady from chainsaw man?
Haha I assume you mean Makima? Or maybe Power?? Idk, I'm going with Makima given the question mark since Power's got the little horns so it's obvious she's a devil and I post about Makima just a teeny bit more than Power but yeah sure lol I have a lot of Makima thoughts
!!!! Heads up for some major spoilers !!!!!
I think Makima is a perfect example of a "taboo" villain. Especially because she is a female villain. There's a reason so many people vehemently hate her, and demand others do too. It's because a good chunk of her actions are rooted in manipulation, I think.
People love villains. Or at least the claim they do, but they tend to only like specific types of villains. Sympathetic villains (which Makima is not), and/or villains who just like... kill/torture people. But people tend to despise villains who manipulate and/or groom other characters because they classify those acts as "worse" or more unforgivable. There's a lot to be said on why that is, but that's not the point here.
The point is that Makima is an absolutely amazing villain, who was written so well there is no attempting to justify what she did, and whether people love her and hate her, it's for the same reasons, it's just a matter of if they find her interesting enough to love, or hate her so much they can't/won't have any other opinions about her.
Makima is a really fun character, because the audience can see all the red flags. Almost every time she is on screen, the reader/viewer is made viscerally uncomfortable by her interactions with other characters. It's obvious that she's manipulating everyone around her into something (and also grooming him, in Denji's case, as a factor of her manipulation). Despite that, while Denji has halfway wondered a few times if Makima is a "good person," for the most part, the other characters don't see/don't notice these red flags because Makima's manipulation of them is that good, namely in Denji and Aki's case. A few of the other devil hunters have made a few comments about her being a bit shady, but it's not in the broad scheme of things, it's just her aloof personality, I think. Denji and Aki love Makima, because they have fallen so thoroughly for her manipulation of them.
And her manipulation is even more interesting regarding Aki, because it's that Makima doesn't even really view Aki as a person she wants to manipulate. At this point, he's merely a tool when it comes to getting Denji where she wants him (as is the same with Power).
Makima's intense need for control made Denji the target, and Aki and Power were just rolled up into it. She recognized Denji's intense need for meaningful human connections (as obviously he has never had those before), and weaponized it. The most obvious way she does this is by feeding into Denji's misguided belief that sexual intimacy is the only real intimacy that matters. Everyone could tell it was... not great when she agreed to have sex with him if he killed the Gun Devil. That's the obvious manipulation that the audience is seeing right out the gate. What not quite everyone is catching onto until it's too late, is that Makima is constructing this scenario with Aki and Power to get Denji close with them as well. That's the real manipulation going on here, the hidden motive. There's a reason she made them all live together, put them on the same team, and it's not because Aki can keep them under control or is there superior. It's because she knows they will all end up loving each other and caring about each other, and Denji will get those very real human connections he so desperately craves without realizing it's happening.
All to build to Aki and Power dying. Not just dying, but Denji being forced to kill Aki, and Power giving up her life for Denji. Which just drives Denji straight towards Makima, and makes her the only person to him, in a much more thorough way than she is at the beginning of the series when Denji's fascination with her is rooted mostly in infatuation and a gratitude for giving him the opportunity for a better life. She has complete and utter control over him at that point. Or at least she thinks she does, because she's convinced her plans and her manipulation and her control of everything around her was so so so perfect.
And for all of this to end with Denji not only killing her once he realizes exactly what happened, and it's Makima's fault he lost the most important people in the world to him, but eating her? Eating her, because still, after everything, he loved her that much? He devoured her, so he would always have her with him? And Makima never seeing it coming? Makima manipulated him into loving her so well, but failed to understand exactly how emotions functioned. Her control was perfect, too perfect, and it resulted in a miserable, tragic end for her.
I just??? Makima is such a wonderful, fascinating villain. I fully understand why so many people despise her, but even if you hate her, I think you should still be able to appreciate everything she did and how it all ties up (and if you can't, maybe take a step back and remember it's a story).
Anyways, I love her, and I wish we got to see more villains like her, that don't need to be sympathetic to be compelling, that are absolutely awful and deplorable, but that doesn't make them any less fun to engage with. Especially when they're female villains.
(And I could touch on the misogyny of so many people loving male villains and justifying/ignoring everything they do, while female villains are reprehensible and anyone who likes them is a bad person but I won't go into that here)
But yeah. Makima is such a good character, and I really hope more people continue to appreciate her and everything that went into her and what she does for the narrative more than they just write her off as terrible because of what she did to Denji and not actually have complex thoughts on her

Even Emma D'Arcy said that "Rhaenyra was groomed as a child" by Daemon. ... *sighs* I'm... disappointed to say the least. 😒 Is everyone working on this show against Daemyra? Do they even look at the material, and do they even *know* what grooming is? It's getting tired. (I also feel like there's an issue with writers who write incest ships/actors who play the characters... talking shit? Saying just... *UGH* things? Maybe it's a defense tactic because of raging antis? Idk. 😒
[x]
E tu, Emma?
I think in the case of HOTD that they're afraid that a bunch of impressionable young women are romanticizing Daemon. Or maybe they've got some ugly stuff planned, and they just want the shippers to be ready for it. Which, I really hope not.
And they might have gotten some backlash for telling an uncle/niece love story, so they're doing a bit of damage control. Saying something sympathetic to incest is guaranteed to get some nasty responses, so I understand it. And like you said, I think we see that with actors playing characters in incestuous relationships a lot, they don't usually have a lot of supportive things to say. But this grooming commentary goes a little too far. (And again, I would argue is not an appropriate use of the word.)
I mean, I think it's fair to say that in some ways he used her. It's fair to say that her best interests weren't always his #1 priority. Why not just say that?
I mean, look at that brothel scene. Daemon takes her there I think for several reasons, but yes, likely to compromise her reputation. (That wasn't my reading from watching the episode but the writers have said it often enough.) As we saw, the two of them didn't even need to have sex for there to be consequences, and I'm sure he knew that, so he didn't really need to 'groom' her, he just needed her to go somewhere with him. But what happens? Rhaenyra is hot to trot and it freaks Daemon out so he takes off running. What kind of groomer behavior is that?
I'm fine with what was on the show, so as long as all of this doesn't affect the writing for season 2, then whatever.
But it's annoying.
How many times have I seen one of the writers saying that Daemon choking Rhaenyra was their favorite scene, or something like that? I mean, WTF. It wasn't just Ryan Condal. Someone else was definitely like, 'I love that moment'. It really does feel like there's a media campaign against Daemon/Rhaenyra.
I don't know, maybe they feel like what came across on screen didn't represent the story they wanted to tell. I mean, it felt too good to be true while it was happening, too romantic, too love story, so I almost have to believe it was writing fumbles and actor chemistry and bad editing and studio interference and whatever other unintentional things. So now they're trying to make up for it in the press. But I really hope not.
They definitely get some perverse joy out of occasionally stabbing people with 'Daemon bad' reminders.
I'm pretty sure I saw an interview with Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke in which they were asked which character they wanted to go on a date with and I think they both said Daemon. The groomer.
Anon #2: Does the term "grooming" have any meaning beyond "flirting/dating that I don't like"? Most descriptions of grooming seem to be basically be common practices except they're bad in this context. For example, getting to know someone and establishing trust with them before you have sex—that's pretty normal, and under most circumstances would be called "dating". Giving gifts to your love interest—again, pretty normal and usually called flirting or dating. Is there any real categorical difference?
I think a lot of the misuses of the term would be almost indistinguishable from regular friendship or courting behavior. Like in that initial ask I mentioned that the supposed grooming behavior was, I would argue, just Daemon being a good uncle!
(Obviously I don't want to downplay real grooming, which involves intentional manipulation towards a child for the purpose of sexual abuse, and is a really bad thing.)

I've wondered since it came out why some people here on Tumblr seem to dislike the content of the collapse DLC calling it "wrong" or "inaccurate" in terms of the main game - It really isn't.
From what I've seen the accusations of the dlc in terms of calling it "inaccurate" seems more to be based on pure subjectivity and bias rather than objectivety... Most of the things showed about the characters in the dlc was already implied, hinted or directly explained in far cry 5 and the "new" things showed goes fairly together and just adds to their already given arcs from the main game. Collapse just expose or develops further on to the things already implied in the main game more explicit and thus makes things more clear... Isn't that what a dlc should do? The only major difference is that it just shows these things a lot more explicit and obvious where in far cry 5 it is a lot more subtle and requires the player to put two and two together.
A rundown on characters:
John? He was always a sadistic person who clearly enjoyed to hurt people rather than cared about his actual purpose for doing so... He clearly wasn't only doing what was "necessary". There is all kinds of evidence in far cry 5 that John is extremely unhinged, unnecessarily sadistic to people and yeah having trouble controlling his urges and desire to hurt people himself. Besides the cutscenes and information showed about him in far cry 5, we see in his bunker there is countless of bodies strung up, ripped apart and hanged like some kind of Hannibal style art. This dude is exactly as the collapse DLC says more explicit and it is clear that he just kinda uses the religion to please his urges(knowingly or unknowingly). We are already given his clear backstory to why and how in the main game so the thing from the dlc should be put together with that.
Faith? Faith was always in far cry 5 meant to portray a very tragic character with a big victim complex, caught up in a cult via the feeling of "acceptance" and "belonging" and then later slowly brainwashed and exposed into extreme ideologies at a young vulnerable state with minor self consciousness or agency to what she was doing and zero intentions of becoming what she ended up as. Evidence clearly points towards that in far cry 5 aswell and in all of her backstory roots while still showing how such innocence and fragility can be taken advantage of and turned into a weapon... She was clearly groomed and manipulated into what she is rather than purposely becoming it and the dlc just elaborate further on that narrative of her.
Jacob? True he doesn't show this fragile personality in far cry 5 and remorse for his incident with Miller at all but it is completely accurate to how PTSD works. There is no better way to cope with PTSD than by doing something and by having a purpose but when this purpose is finished and he is just doing nothing in a bunker for a long time everything WILL come back eventually and it will make him uncontrollable...
While the dlc might present Josephs character more disturbing, it isn't inaccurate from an objective viewpoint as the fact that Joseph in his own delusional mind believes that what he does is justified because he serves the "greater good". We should be able to see reasoning in Joseph without being biased and can see why he in his delusional mind felt the desire to re-create what he lost in a fucked up way, but to try to negate his obvious disturbing characteristics, narcissistic tendencies, obvious mistreatment and abuse(all kinds) of "Faith" plus many other things is clearly objectively wrong even tho he himself believes he is doing what's right. Collapse doesn't show characteristics about Joseph which wasn't already alluded to or directly showed in the main game - it simply just shows everything more explicit.
Joseph didn't wanted his family to die obviously but in Collapse they are haunting him in his mind because he didn't managed to succeed with his project and they are angry because he saved the deputy rather than them. While it wasn't Joseph's intention to "retire" his family it was his prophecy that the deputy should be kept alive that was the reason for their deaths. If he just ordered his followers to kill the deputy before they managed to turn it around, his family would be alive and that is why they in his mind are haunting him.
Again collapse just generally develops further on to the already established character arcs the characters were given... Most of the things the collapse DLC shows or confirms were already greatly implied or hinted.
I wonder if the players who feel like this DLC is inaccurate or presents the characters in ways that is out of character have given it a thought that maybe they THEMSELVES misinterpreted something in far cry 5 or perceived something wrong in terms of the characters rather than just swiftly and biasedly accusing the dlc as being inaccurate purely because you personally didn't enjoyed the way the characters were framed even tho mostly the exact same was showed in far cry 5 aswell just in a more subtle way. Even tho it is only something I've seen here on Tumblr I seriously don't get these accusations of the dlc at all - it just sounds insanely biased...
If you have any thoughts feel free to reply and I'm curious to why the people doesn't enjoy it. Maybe it is for completely different reasons than what I'm talking about? Let me know!
On a side note: i noticed that apparently some people gets extremely immaturely offended here if you provide counterpoints or contradictory thoughts(nothing insulting or anything) to their posts which is in my mind should be a main expectation of posting something on the internet - debating, talking and people commenting... Tumblr is relatively new for me and created it mainly because of far cry 5, so idk if it is a general thing here that people will just block you or generally react to it in a negative way if you respond to a post with either critism, disagreement or contradictory thoughts. (in a well intentioned and objective manner of course)
