"One day, I'm gonna kick that bird man in the shins so hard that he'll be hobbling around like an old man." You grumbled as you made your way to the headmage's office. "It's barely past four in the damn morning." You didn't bother to knock and simply barged your way into his office, taking satisfaction in catching him off guard.
"Oh, Y/N! Thank you for coming so quickly!" He said with a smile, spreading his arms like he was about to hug you, but he didn't make a move forward. "I have a job for you."
..."No." You said. You'd been hoping for an increase in salary, which was really the only reason you'd bothered to show up. A job? Not interested. "But you don't even know what I was going to ask." Crowley replied indignantly. "I don't care. It's barely past four in the morning and you want me to do some favor for you." You stated, beginning to walk out.
"W‐ uh- I'll increase your pay by ten percent!" He exclaimed in desperation. Bingo. You stopped and turned around with a glare. "Thirty percent."
"Twelve percent?"
"Sixteen."
"Fine, fine, sixteen percent!" He huffed. "Really, ten percent should've been plenty! Though you should have just accepted my humble task for free, but as I'm such an amazing headmage, I'll increase your pay. Aren't I so generous?"
You sighed. "Get on with it before I leave." You grumbled. Crowley jumped up from his desk. "Oh yes! I suppose you've heard about the incident with the statue on Main Street and the chandelier in the cafeteria?" He prompted. You shook your head.
"Not about the chandelier, but is that important?" You sighed. "Well, kind of. The student and our new janitors who were involved with the statue incident were also involved with breaking the chandelier in the cafeteria— along with another student. I sent them to the mines to get a new magestone and they claim that they discovered a monster lurking within it—"
"And you want me to check it out, right?" You interrupted. "Are you sure that they're not making it up? Or that it wasn't just some ghost playing tricks?" You definitely were not planning on wasting your time on a wild goose chase.
"Now, I know you may be dubious about it, but I'd like you to check it out. The group described the monster having a "black goo-like substance" on it. I'm sure you don't need further explanation?" Crowley asked, for once being serious. You frowned. "No.... I'll get right on it."
"Wonderful! Does—" Crowley started, but you shut him up. "I still want that increase in pay." That got him on about how you should do it for the safety of the students— you started leaving— and then he went on about how generous and amazing he was. At that point, you slipped out of his office, rolling your eyes tiredly.
。ₓ ू ₒ ु ˚ ू ₒ ु ₓ。
...They encountered a possibly overblotted monster here? You moved forward carefully past the abandoned dwarf home and toward the direction of the mine. You heard low inhuman noises coming from near the entrance as you reached the clearing. You stepped closer through the trees and saw the creature. It was an overblotted miner from the looks of it.
Whatever the students had done seemed to have done a number on it. Cracks were spiderwebbing the ink-filled glass sphere that was its head. It was collapsed on the ground making some odd-sounding crying noises.
You stepped forward out of the trees quietly, not wanting to alert it in case it was still able to move. You held out your pen and sent fire attacks spiraling toward it. The light of the fire made it look up, which was a mistake on its part. You saw some of the fire make its way into the wider cracks of the sphere and lit up the inside while the rest caught the spilled ink on its body on fire.
It made a loud wailing noise, but it didn't seem to be able to do anything to get rid of the fire since it didn't move. You wrinkled your nose as the smell of the inky-sludge substance burning reached your nose. It smelled horrible.
You waited until the miner was laying still and the fire had gone out before cautiously moving over and placing a foot experimentally on its head. It barely reacted, only uttering a barely audible "Stoooooonnneeee....." before you put your full weight down on it with your foot. The weakened glass shattered and your foot went into the emptying sphere, the remainder of the black sludge spilling out onto the grass, making the grass sizzle.
You scowled. "You must have been pretty weak to begin with if a couple of kids beat you. It's quite pathetic." You said even though it was already dead— if you could call it dead. You removed your foot from the remainder of the creature's head, but now you were stuck on what to do with it. You didn't want to risk any forest animals coming into contact with the miner, but you couldn't think of many other options.
Eventually you decided to move it into the cave and collapse the entrance. You
"That should prevent anything from coming into contact with the blot." You mumbled to yourself. "Now to go get some damn sleep."
。ₓ ू ₒ ु ˚ ू ₒ ु ₓ。
As soon as you got back, you hopped into the shower and sat there for a minute, drowsily staring off into space. You felt something mud-like in texture on your face and rubbed it off with the help of the water from the shower head.
You changed into comfier clothes and collapsed on your bed. You looked at your watch before taking it off. 5:06 am. You groaned, knowing that you were going to have to get up at around seven if you were going to have time to get coffee before classes.
You drug the covers back and slipped underneath them, pulling them back up once you were sufficiently comfortable. You closed your eyes, settling your head further into your pillow.
...Of course. Now that you wanted to fall asleep, your mind was busy thinking. Did I make the right choice when choosing group captains? What other class stuff should I do? Maybe I should fight them one on one to gage their skills? No, that may be a bit extreme.
You sat there for a while, sorting through your thoughts. You decided that before classes tomorrow, you'd come up with some form of a curriculum. How fun... But I guess I knew what I was signing up for when I became a professor here. But I didn't know how much of a pain Crowley and some of the students would be. Given what I heard about what happened during the orientation ceremony, I'm glad I didn't attend.
Tumblr media
I'm done :'T I didn't have many ideas for this part, so it's a bit short. I'll also be adding the border at the bottom from now on cuz I finally got around to making it. Anyways, send help, I have no ideas for a curriculum. I'll probably spend a few days coming up with something so the next part may take a while. But aside from that, I hope you enjoyed.
Yeah ikkkk, I was bragging about having the plot up until Riddle's overblot done, but I lied. I have no curriculum planned for UM classes 😓
P.S. I veered off a bit from the main plot by keeping the miner alive after the fight with Ace, Deuce, and Grim just to add something interesting :V Hope it doesn't bother too many people.

It’s time we accept that Percy Jackson is an unreliable narrator. He’s not dumb. He’s just insecure. He’s not clueless about his and Annabeth’s feelings. He’s just in denial. He’s not clueless about Rachel’s feelings. He just doesn’t want to do anything about them. His mother isn’t perfect. He just loves and respects her more than anyone in the world. That boy contradicts his own inner monologue all the time. Do not trust him!!
EDIT: Please don’t interact just to disagree. You can make your own post.

You heard the bell ring from the school as you crossed the track field where a few students (Jack and Azul) while the rest of your class trailed along behind you. "Everyone line up next to those two." You said and waited until a suffiently straight line had been made.
"Firstly, I'll be sorting you all into groups." You said. You pulled out a piece of paper where you'd written out the groups. "I'll also be assigning each group a captain of sorts. The captain will be in charge of watching over their groups if something comes up during a lesson and I have to leave. Anyway, there are three groups so far. Group 1's captain will be Trey Clover, Group 2's captain will be Jamil Viper, and Group 3's captain will be Jack Howl. The three mentioned, step forward a fair distance between yourselves."
You watched the new captains' expressions as they moved forward. They all seemed surprised, obviously, but you looked at their more subtle, personal reactions. Trey seemed rather bashful, but he seemed to accept the new role with a smile. Jamil seemed a bit torn. He looked tense from his slightly curled fingers and stiff posture, but he had a satisfied smirk on his face. Jack was more alert, with his ears perked forward and a stern look on his face. You'd chosen them because they seemed like natural leaders, especially Jack, but you also wanted to see how their very diverse personalities clashed.
"Now I'll be assigning the rest of you to a group. Ashengrotto, Al Asim, you'll be in Howl's group. Diamond, you'll be in Clover's group...." You rattled off the rest of the names and waited for everyone to be sorted. "Now then, I'd like you all to get more familiar with your group members as these are the groups you'll be in for the rest of the year. Of course, if you drop out after midterms, you can ignore them all you want; and if you come back next year, you'll likely be in different groups as well. But for now, suck it up."
Trey raised his hand. "Yes, Clover?" You asked. Trey lowered his hand. "When you say to get more familiar with our groups, how exactly should we go about that?" You gave an off-handed wave. "Well, introduce yourselves, then say some stuff about yourselves. Also, I have a challenge for each group. Whichever group can figure out the way I sorted you, I'll... hmm... I'll think of some sort of reward. Maybe some extra credit. But take that as incentive to get to know your group better." You trailed off, putting your hand to your chin.
The class took that as a cue to start chatting and you took the opportunity to think. Well, admittedly the challenge bit was thrown out there on a whim. But I suggested it, so what should I use as a reward....? I suppose I could give them some extra credit as a little bonus. You waited for a good fifteen minutes, then clapped your hands for attention. The chatter, you noticed with satisfaction, stopped almost immediately.
"Today I have your first assignment. With your groups, I want you all to find some small magestones that I've hidden around the forest. Clover's group, yours are silver; Viper's group, yours are red; and Howl's group, yours are gold. To pass this first assignment, you have to find all ten of your group's color and bring them back to me before the end of class— and all of your group members must be back as well. You can use anything at your disposal including unique magics and any other magic to do so."
Jamil spoke up. "What happens if we come across another group's magestone?"
You grinned. "Well, if you find another group's magestone, you can hide it anywhere you want within the forest. You can't pick it up and carry it with you, of course, but the objective is to be the first group back, so causing problems for others groups would help with that. Also, I'd suggest finding a way to communicate within your groups as you won't find all of the magestones clumped together in one big group. But that's all the help I'll give you. If there aren't any more questions, your time starts now, and I'd suggest keeping an eye on the time. I'll make some sort of loud noise when time is up."
As soon as you finished speaking, all the groups ran into the forest. You were curious to see what tactics they would use; and of course, which team would win. If you were to predict which group would come in first, your mind went to Jamil's group. Despite how much he wanted to appear average, you could tell that he was anything but. He had seemed confident in his role as a leader and cunning enough to make sure no one argued. Or at least so that no one argued for long.
。ₓ ू ₒ ु ˚ ू ₒ ु ₓ。
As you predicted, Jamil's group came in first, with Jack's group not far behind. Trey's group came a little further behind them, though Trey didn't seem upset about being last. "Alright, now that everyone's back, you can rest for the rest of class. Captains, come see me up here and give me the magestones." You said. Jamil, Trey, and Jack came forward and deposited the magestones in a bag you held out.
"Excuse me, professor, why did you say 'magestones' when they're just colored stones?" Trey asked. You snorted. "Did you think I'd use real magestones? They're hard enough to find around here, why would I risk losing any real ones in the forest?" You prompted. Trey shook his head. "Oh, that makes sense."
"Oh, before you three walk away, indulge me: what tactics did you use? And I hope you were paying as much attention to your group mates as much as you were at the ground looking for rocks." You said. Jack spoke up first. "Well, my group split up into several small teams and searched specific areas. I used my unique magic to travel between the teams and survey our progress." You nodded your approval. "That's a good way to use your unique magic. Clover, what about you?'
"We split off into three groups and searched larger areas. A few of us exchanged numbers and went off with different groups, so we texted each other whenever we found a mage— a stone." He stated. "Though it seems that other groups got to some of our stones before we found them because there were some magic traps to get around, which took a while." He finished.
"Ah, the traps were likely my group's fault." Jamil admitted. "I made sure to remind everyone in my group to set traps around any stones they found. But our tactic was fairly similar to yours: we used our phones to communicate and spread out, but we were in smaller groups instead of three larger ones." He said all this matter-of-factly with a neutral expression as he explained.
Your arms crossed, you cut in. "Well, those are some interesting tactics, each of you. I don't have much feedback aside from maybe relying less on your phones and more on the magic aspect of it. I know that I said to use any resources at your disposal, so that's alright for now. But someday you may find yourself in a situation where you need to communicate with others over long distances without your phones. I would say that Howl handled that nicely. You should discuss these things with your group mates and try to create a solution for anything that stuck out to you as a problem, or just anything in general during this exercise."
The three students nodded and returned to their groups. Soon, the chatter became louder and you let them talk until the last ten minutes of class, then you herded them back to the school to change. "You all may leave early to get to your next classes." You said as you reached your classroom. With that, all of the students scattered, going different ways. You noted that Jamil walked slightly behind Kalim, Kalim chatting happily as Jamil listened with little input. In contrast, Trey and Cater went off side by side in the same direction, both chatting fairly equally. The differences in personalities never ceased to make you smile.
What if I were to swap the groups up as a little experiment? Maybe they would act different if they had different people to work with for a day? You wondered as you made your way to the staff lounge. You weren't really expecting to see anyone there, so you were slightly surprised to see Sam leaning back in a chair at the circuler table off to the side.
"Oh, hey there, Y/N! How's teaching going?" Sam asked merrily, waving as you walked over. "It's going fine. I don't normally see you here. Just come by to chat?" You queried. He laughed. "Well, what can I say? I got bored just sitting around! Oh, did ya hear? Someone burned one of the statues on Main Street yesterday. It's still got Crowley all worked up." His face was clearly full of mischief.
"That wasn't you, was it? Not that I really expect it to be you, but you didn't go messing around with something flammable near them, did you?' You leaned against the table with your arms crossed, facing the odd shopkeeper. He held a hand to his heart in a dramatic way with a mock hurt expression on his face. "I'm hurt that you would suggest something like that. But no, it was that new upstart familiar of the magicless student that showed up at orientation."
"And let me guess, no one got expelled, just given some warning or small punishment?" You said dryly. Sam shrugged. "Can't say I heard anything about a punishment, but I assume since no one's been expelled yet that he just gave them some little task that he doesn't want to do."
"That sounds about right. Crowley probably wouldn't want to expel anyone on their first day at Night Raven College. It affect his reputation too, or at least that's what I assume he's probably thinking." You sighed. Sam grinned and straightened up from his chair. "Well, who knows. I plan to check it out right now, as a matter of fact. School gets out after next class, so I'd better head out quickly before I get any customers at the shop." He looked at you expectantly. "Wanna tag along?"
"No, thank you, I think I'm going to stay here until my last class, then I'm going to pretend to grade for about an hour, then go to sleep until I finally get to go home— oh, and I'll deny saying any of that if word gets around." You added. Sam snickered as he opened the door. "Oh, not at all. Being a professor must be tiring. Anyway, I'll see ya later then!" Sam slipped out the door and closed it behind him.
HAHAHAHAHA I'M DONE WITH PART 2, I FEEL UNSTOPPABLE LOL!! Also, can we take a moment to appreciate me making two semi-long fics in a single day? My brain is mush ngl but I'll live. I hope that you guys enjoyed part 2 of this might I say amazing series. I'll make part 3 eventually, though it may take a week or so depending on my motivation level.
Also, I hope I made it clear what part of the timeline this series is currently at (the prologue before Riddle's overblot chapter), as I'm trying to make it a side-by-side with the og storyline; though it has a long way to go before it's caught up with chapter 7 of the main storyline XD Feel free to check out things about this au here for any additional information that you may want to know!
Oh yeah, and if you want your twst oc to be included in this series, let me know! All you have to do is supply me with their name, pronouns/gender preference (preferably not female as NRC is an all-boys school, sorry!!), grade (optional), unique magic (obviously), their personality, maybe some hobbies, their relationships with some twst characters (preferably the ones prominently featured in this series), and any other information that you want to include!
If you have any questions about anything related to this series, send me an ask or message me privately if you want! Though if you want to talk with me about something unrelated to the series, that's totally fine too!
