i really like dante’s arc in mcd,, i genuinely think it was handled pretty well. it was simple but sweet.

in diaries dante starts with no family,, fresh out of the guard academy and aimless. however,, in season 2 we see that he was able to build a family and gained stability during the 15 year time-jump. even though he had settled down,, he worked hard as a guard and stuck by phoenix drop even when so many others had given up on it. and that included his friends. everyone else was convinced that their lord and her friends wouldn’t return but everyday for 15 years straight he stood at his post outside the gate and waited. and waited. and waited. by the time his friends returned he was no longer the wide-eyed excitable young man,, now he was older,, mature and frankly… sad. although we can estimate that he was in his mid 30s by season 2 he clearly acts older than that. the stress of holding together a decaying town in the aftermath of a battle AND raising a family had aged his soul. out of the trio of him, laurence and garroth,, he had become the oldest. when he was once the youngest

Dreamer Anon again, turns out I'm not done with my Wanderer thoughts.

They kept running into each other after that night, something they told him they didn't mind. Sometimes it would be out in the rainforest again, when they were either setting up their camp or tracking their next bit of prey. Sometimes it would be in the bazaar as they were selling or trading the pelts or extra meat from their hunts. Other times it was while both of them were on the roads and just happened to be going in the same direction.

He wasn't following them or stalking them. No, it was either coincidence or fate that kept the two of them meeting up with each other again, convincing him further that this was truly his second chance with them.

"What are you thinking about?" Their voice snapped him out of his thoughts. They had invited him to share a meal at a small tavern that had recently been opened along the road to Sumeru City, an invitation he eagerly accepted. He didn't realize he'd been so invested in his own thoughts, they were halfway through their food while he had barely touched his.

"Nothing important." He said before taking a deep breath and steeling his nerves a bit. There was a particular question that had been on his mind for the past week that he had been reluctant to ask. Well, two questions actually. "How long do you plan on staying in Sumeru?"

"I'm going to be leaving at the start of next week. I think the Forest Watchers are getting tired of me creeping around the rainforest." They said before they took a sip of their drink. "I might head to Mondstadt next. Heard the boar population is starting to get out of hand over there for some odd reason."

Good, he had his answer for the first question. Now the second one. The one he truly feared the answer of.

"Could I go with you?"

Their eyes widened in shock as they stared at him for a moment. He tried to keep his expression calm, even though he felt his insides turning.

"I don't see why not. But are you sure you want to come with me? You're gonna get tired of seeing this face real quick." They chuckled a bit after speaking.

He wanted to yell and tell them no, he'd never get tired of having them around or looking at them. Not after being apart for so long, not after all the mistakes he made before, that he loved them and would be with them for eternity if they wanted.

"I'm absolutely sure." That was all he said.

I LOVE HIM. AND THIS. Normally, Wanderer considered things like "fate" and "destiny" to be a cruel, sick joke from the Gods. And even though he still didn't like them, he'd surely accept these fateful meetings as a second chance, another opportunity to prove himself. To be with you. No matter the setting, the circumstances, the environment, he was happy to be by your side.

Wanderer never thought he’d be so happy to consume food, much less with another person, but here he was anyway, basking in your soft smile and focused gaze. It was rare whenever Wanderer got lost in his thoughts around you. After his erasure from the world, he was intent on soaking up everything you said or did, and etching it into his mind. So when you snap him out of his thoughts, he’s a bit surprised, but that was what the fear of separation from you did to him, he guesses. 

It didn’t matter which version of himself he was. Kabukimono, Scaramouche, Wanderer. He fears rejection and loneliness, especially when he thinks about you. So that is why he’s uncharacteristically worried about your response regarding his companionship.

You never had a traveling buddy before, never thought of it before, and you never thought anyone would ask. Though, seeing the Traveler and Paimon’s antics do warm your heart. So perhaps having this eccentric with you would liven up your travels too. You’ll have someone to talk to as you look upon the stars for once. You’ll have someone to eat dinner with, to fight with. You think it’ll be nice. And the way Wanderer looks at you makes an unfamiliar feeling stir within you. You would like to find out why. Though you are still unsure as to why he’d want to travel with you of all people, his sincerity has to looking forward to your shared travels with him.

When Scaramouche went around the world initially, he didn’t see anything good in it, too blinded by his hurt and anger. But now, with you, Wanderer thinks you’ll help him see a lot more beauty. He’ll be there for you all the way, protecting you. Whatever makes you happy, because you deserved it after his past ignorance. And hopefully, maybe you could fall in love with him again.
