"This sends two messages: The first is that the government is not going to do anything to solve the problem. This is their way of telling us that."
Tracy Walder, a former CIA and FBI agent and current college professor who taught high school history for 16 years, said she was "devastated" when she heard her second grade daughter would be sent home with a kit.
"You have to understand, I'm a former law enforcement officer," Walder, who has lived in Texas for 14 years, told TODAY Parents. "I worry every single day when I send my kid to school. Now we're giving parents DNA kits so that when their child is killed with the same weapon of war I had when I was in Afghanistan, parents can use them to identify them?"
Walder said she has tried to "find the right words" for how she feels, but she doesn't think she can "because sometimes it's beyond comprehension."
"This sends two messages: The first is that the government is not going to do anything to solve the problem. This is their way of telling us that," Walder said. "The second is that us parents are now forced to have conversations with our kids that they may not be emotionally ready for. My daughter is 7. What do I tell her?"
Texas governor Greg Abbott, a Republican seeking re-election this year, has fiercely resisted any efforts to limit access to firearms.
“It was almost like the state just throwing their hands up and saying, ‘We can’t do anything about the guns. We’re not going to change any of the laws. So, therefore, the next best thing is to make sure that we can identify your K through eighth grader if they are killed in any type of school incident,” Anthony Crutch, a parent in Clear Creek, Texas told ABC13. [...]
After the shooting in Uvalde, some of the children were harmed so severely that officials struggled to identify the bodies. Brett Cross, whose son was killed in the Robb elementary school shooting, also expressed frustration on Twitter about the kits.
“Yeah! Awesome! Let’s identify kids after they’ve been murdered instead of fixing issues that could ultimately prevent them from being murdered,” he said.

I found an extremely dope disability survival guide for those who are homebound, bedbound, in need of disability accommodations, or would otherwise like resources for how to manage your life as a disabled person. (Link is safe)
It has some great articles and resources and while written by people with ME/CFS, it keeps all disabilities in mind. A lot of it is specific to the USA but even if you're from somewhere else, there are many guides that can still help you. Some really good ones are:
How to live a great disabled life- A guide full of resources to make your life easier and probably the best place to start (including links to some of the below resources). Everything from applying for good quality affordable housing to getting free transportation, affordable medication, how to get enough food stamps, how to get a free phone that doesn't suck, how to find housemates and caregivers, how to be homebound, support groups and Facebook pages (including for specific illnesses), how to help with social change from home, and so many more.
Turning a "no" into a "yes"- A guide on what to say when denied for disability aid/accommodations of many types, particularly over the phone. "Never take no for an answer over the phone. If you have not been turned down in writing, you have not been turned down. Period."
How to be poor in America- A very expansive and helpful guide including things from a directory to find your nearest food bank to resources for getting free home modifications, how to get cheap or free eye and dental care, extremely cheap internet, and financial assistance with vet bills
How to be homebound- This is pretty helpful even if you're not homebound. It includes guides on how to save spoons, getting free and low cost transportation, disability resources in your area, home meals, how to have fun/keep busy while in bed, and a severe bedbound activity master list which includes a link to an audio version of the list on Soundcloud
Master List of Disability Accommodation Letters For Housing- Guides on how to request accommodations and housing as well as your rights, laws, and prewritten sample letters to help you get whatever you need. Includes information on how to request additional bedrooms, stop evictions, request meetings via phone, mail, and email if you can't in person, what you can do if a request is denied, and many other helpful guides
Special Laws to Help Domestic Violence Survivors (Vouchers & Low Income Housing)- Protections, laws, and housing rights for survivors of DV (any gender), and how to get support and protection under the VAWA laws to help you and/or loved ones receive housing and assistance
Dealing With Debt & Disability- Information to assist with debt including student loans, medical debt, how to deal with debt collectors as well as an article with a step by step guide that helped the author cut her overwhelming medical bills by 80%!
There are so many more articles, guides, and tools here that have helped a lot of people. And there are a lot of rights, resources, and protections that people don't know they have and guides that can help you manage your life as a disabled person regardless of income, energy levels, and other factors.

US folks, tomorrow (December 7, 2023) the senate is going to vote on sending $14.3 billion more in funding for Israel. (It’s a huge funding bill for “defense funding” for many things, but they also included more funding for ICE in the bill). Please take 2 minutes to use this action tool to call your reps and demand they vote no to more funding for Israel
And please share this action tool with 3 people you know. You can literally copy-paste this post to them if you don’t know what to say

[ID: a link preview of a stock image coffee table with a laptop with the facebook logo on the screen with text on top that says 'anyone who used facebook in the last 16 years can now get settlement money. here's how." end ID]
-USA Residents Only-
Time Sensitive- Apply before August 25th, 2023 (8/25/23)!
Filing a claim takes less than ten minutes, and can be done HERE
Excerpt from article:
Anyone in the U.S. who used Facebook in the last 16 years can now collect a piece of a $725 million settlement by parent company Meta tied to privacy violations — as long as they fill out a claim on a website set up to pay out money to the social network's users.
The settlement stems from multiple lawsuits that were brought against Facebook by users who claimed that the company improperly shared their data with third-party sources such as advertisers and data brokers. The litigation began after Facebook was embroiled in a privacy scandal in 2018 with Cambridge Analytica, which scraped user data from the site as part of an effort to profile voters.
Meta denied any liability or wrongdoing under the settlement, according to the recently created class-action website. However, the agreement means that U.S. residents who used Facebook between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022, can file a monetary claim as long as they do so before August 25, 2023.
Please reblog to signal boost this! As many people as possible should know about this to make their claim, if you don't do anything you don't get anything. It takes less than ten minutes to file and pick your payment option including pay/pal and ven/mo .

unfortunately going to have to make another post because things are getting bad again
i work as a gas station attendant and accommodations were made when i was hired so that i could sit down while working due to my fibromyalgia / chronic pain . recently a customer complained that i was being “lazy” so my manager decided that i can’t sit down anymore . i can do that , sure , but i won’t be able to move the next day . i tried explaining this to my manager but she said that the decision was final . and so i’ve had to call off a lot of days these last few weeks because of the extreme pain that i'm in . my manager told me that we have to meet this sunday and i’m pretty sure i’m going to get fired .
i live paycheck to paycheck and even then i’m constantly struggling to afford medication , food , gas , etc . i have no savings , so if i lose my job , i’m completely fucked . and honestly i’m just very tired of living like this , not knowing when my next meal is going to be or having to scrounge up every last cent i have for my insulin .
i hate asking for help so often but i really feel hopeless right now . i don’t have anyone to turn to IRL , otherwise i would . even a few dollars means so much to me , it’s literally the difference between me eating or having to fast for another day . i do art commissions if you’re interested , you can find all of my links below . please boost this and spread this post around . thank you so much for reading this

Hey I’m Pochi, a Pan/Non-Binary Disabled artist with BPD. I am re posting this because some life things changed for the worse again. So i’m still in the same boat as I was in May 2022, unemployed. I’ve had a lot happen. My ACL was torn on a plane which will require surgery, which my doctor has now forbid me to work on till I have said surgery. Plus the ceiling in one of the bedrooms caved in. I’ve asked for it on twitter but i’ve been afraid to on here. This is a Approx. of what I’ll need just to survive
Electric (Weekly): $300.00 (The electric got raised and it’s been about $60 a day i’m drowning here)
Food (Bi Weekly): $150.00 (I can make stuff last but we need some food.)
Vet For Rug and Check up for Marmalady: $180.00 (This can be postponed But i’d like for it to be soon.)
Spay For Both Girls: $150.00 (Also postponed but again, sooner rather then later would be best for them.)
Cat Food : $50.00 (They have food mostly for now. But that doesn’t take long to run through.)
Med’s and Dr’s: One Med which is a 3 months supply is $75 alone and others range 0-$50. Doctors visits also vary but specialists have not been more then $25 so far.
Ticket to see Gir: $250.80 (This is a major want not a need.)
= So a lot, Close to $1000.00 give or take
The ceiling and plumbing repair is $15,000 I in no way am asking for that. I just need help with monthly bills while my Dr forbids me to work till after I have surgery.

^ GoFundMe
^ PayPal.me for mousedetective
^ Homeless Help Amazon Wishlist
--------------------------------------------------------------------
If anyone wants to help, these are the main ways you can help! The GoFundMe is to collect money for various things we may need, but it doesn't pay directly (it takes 3 - 4 days for donations to hit my account).
The PayPal link sends money directly to me, so it's the best way to help immediately, like if we need food or gas.
This particular wishlist on Amazon is just things we need that can be sent to the address where we pick up our mail. There are a lot of gift cards on there that would be a huge help, plus other things we need.
(Also, while I don't have links to them, you can use Venmo and CashApp as well: my Venmo username is @penaltywaltz and my CashApp username is $afteriwake23)

I had just posted two new links of events occurring on Maui but I need to highlight a very specific situation happening right now.
Maui has another harbor, Ma'alaea, where a lot of two and three story boats are docked. They exist for tourists to go snorkeling and whale watching. They go on usually two cruises a day. Some go as far as the neighboring islands. These boats have the capacity to go to Lahaina and back probably 4 to 6 times. But instead of shipping over supplies to the local families who are trapped in West Maui, because the American Military won't let them leave and won't bring them supplies, these boats are taking tourists out to snorkel in Lahaina, right near the fire.
In contrast, people have created makeshift long boats and kanoes and piled supplies in them and are taking them out by jetskis to the private docks in Lahaina. These boats are 3 to 5 times smaller and can only bring in so many supplies at a time. People need to understand that the crisis does not stop with the fires. The humanitarian crisis starts and ends with the local people who are experiencing the parasite that is tourism. Write to the Governor of Hawai'i. Tell them that there needs to be changes to ecological laws. Tell them to crack down on tourism. Offer advice, ways to better the economy without tourism. Tell people to stop behaving like these tourists and money hungry business owners.
This video is an example of a tourist boat.
And this video is an example of what the supply boats look like.
This is a list of gofundmes and other donations to individuals who need aid!
Please if nothing else share this in every way you can.

US folks, please take literally 30 seconds to send an email to your reps demanding they immediately stop sending money to Israel.
Link here: https://act.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/a/no-more-weapons-israel-c2e
Also please use this tool (also takes literally 30 seconds) to demand your reps reinstate funding to UNWRA. UNWRA funding will run out in less than two weeks. This is SUPER SUPER URGENT!!!
Link here: https://www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/resource/tell-congress-demand-biden-reinstate-unrwa-funding/
Please also send these tools to 3 other people off of tumblr!
If you don't live in the US, please reblog anyways and share with anyone you know who does live in the US

tw: death
My last post lost traction, and I’m still in desperate need of help. On November 21st, 2023, my father who I cared for and my cat passed away in a house fire while I was at an appointment. I am beyond devastated, I have lost everything and am starting completely over. Anything helps, even just a share of the fundraiser created for me, or a reblog. Thank you.

consider supporting a disabled queer artist while they look for employment
( making a new post because traction is slowing down and i still very much need help ) the full story is in this post , but TLDR – i lost my job because my manager would no longer accommodate my disability . i’ve been super stressed ever since which is causing even more fibro flareups and that makes doing anything absolutely miserable . i’m looking for another job willing to accommodate me , but the two interviews i’ve been to haven’t exactly gone well . i’m still trying though ;;
in the meantime , i really need some help . i have a long list of things that i absolutely need , another TLDR – appointment copays , medicine + supplies , groceries , gas , and car insurance . all together it adds up to $500 - $600 just for a month of me doing the bare minimum to survive . please consider throwing a few dollars my way or requesting a commission ! a little bit goes a long way and makes more of a difference than you even know . if you can't help monetarily , please consider boosting this post so others who may be able to help monetarily will see it . thank you for reading !!!
