Ugh. Supernatural fans will write fanfics about Dean Winchester that are so heart shattering it tricks me into thinking I should rewatch Supernatural.

i love the bias + the fan pairings so much because on the surface its very "oh, well, the bias just has to fall for the fan and then its happily ever after" but no! its way more fun than that!

the fan isnt in love with the bias. in fact, the fan doesnt view this world as reality, nor do they even view their bias as a human. the fun part of this pairing is the fan having to recognize the world they live in as their new reality and the people around them as people! the bias falling for the fan is just part one, the fan falling for the bias as an Actual Human Being is just as important an element

I don't read them. I've written some, though.

It can be like a love letter to a creator. Their work inspired you to create. Though there are also some that put the nametags on top of generic protagonists that have nothing in common with the actual work. I don't know how to feel about those. It depends, really.

But if you think about it, everything is a fan fiction to some extend. If you're religious enough, that is.

Or if you believe in Simpsons and SpongeBob since the writers of those were on a different level.

my shock when i was looking through my storygraph reviews and saw i rated the girls by emma cline 3.75 stars like !! when i think of emma cline i think of how delicious her prose is i'm surprised younger me did not eat up the actual novel as much as i assumed i did

#i think if i remember correctly - the stuff in the fictive present was nowhere near as engaging as the fictive past for me #at the time i wasn't a fan of the ending but from what i remember of it? i could give her another chance #maybe a reread is necessary i plan to reread her short story collection bc i didnt understand #short fiction the way i do now when i read it #also i think it'd be interesting to read writers whose prose was really inspirational to me in the past but i know i have since #grown a lot from the writing i did back then #her prose is still delicious to me but i feel i have a different relationship with the writers i look up to now #less trying to emulate them fully with everything i write (i like to try and emulate as a writing exercise tho) #and more trying to see what i can learn/incorporate but still in my own way. like a love letter to their prose written by my own
