as reading week comes to a close, i’ve been polishing off some economics revision, as well as doing the actual expectation of this week and finishing some required reading.

only two months left until final exams, and then summer’s finally here (for uni folks anyway) !

trying to get back in reading for my own enjoyment but it’s been tough with all the required reading coupled in.

plan to have a few long study days this weekend to get ready for my upcoming week !

We've been enjoying "choose your own adventure" stories lately (spoiler alert - I'm writing one for 8-12 year olds, which has rekindled my love for this type of book). Zoe and Jake picked the same bedtime storybook ("Sandcastle" by R. A. Montgomery), then they each had a turn at making the choices, so they ended up with quite different stories! I love seeing what choices they make! I’m so upset. Everything in me is upset.

What’s wrong with me? I feel this intense need to just figure out everything at 19. I want to know what I’m going to do with my future yet I have no clue. I’m majoring in a program that I despise and I wish I could do something else. Everyone I talk to expects me to become a lawyer or something amazing.

I’m creative and I’ve always been so creative. I like thinking out of the box. I want to something eventful with my life. I know the purpose of life isn’t about what your career because let’s be honest, capitalism has made us feel that way. It’s just important to me I’m able to explore my passions and do what I want.

I feel so small & so stupid compared to so many other people. I feel like I’m not smart enough or not capable. I just sat in my bed all day. I’m so upset. I hate this. I didn’t achieve anything I wanted to achieve today.

My friends can’t even be there for me, because how am I supposed to explain this to them? They’re so into their own lives. I constantly feel like I’m the listener but no one ever listens to me.

I feel my light fading.

Reading Week May 11th-17th

I had a very productive reading week this past week! 

(This review includes spoilers so please read at your own risk!)

I was able to finish 5 books this week. In order of finishing, I read:

*Scarlet by Marissa Meyer: 4/5 stars

*Cress by Marissa Meyer: 4/5 stars

*Fairest by Marissa Meyer: 5/5 stars

*Winter by Marissa Meyer: 4.5/5 stars

*Stars Above by Marissa Meyer: 4/5 stars

As you can see, I had a marathon of the Lunar Chronicles series. I enjoyed it very much (I read Cinder the week before and I also gave that one 4/5 stars). As a whole, the series was very satisfying. I only had a few issues and these were very minor. I know the conclusion to this series was publishes 5 years ago but I didn’t care for the lack of LGBTQIA+ characters. This is not a huge complaint as I enjoyed the relationships a lot despite this. 

The other thing I did not care for was the lack of deaths in the finale. I did not want any one person to die, but as the characters were fighting a war, I felt like it would have been more realistic if one or more of them had perished in the battle. Especially that one scene in the finale, where they were all basically in the throne room fighting Levana and they all survived this battle. 

But I enjoyed this series very much other than that, it was entertaining and kept me engaged the entire time, despite the lengths of some of these novels. I am torn however if I would have picked up this series at all if I had known one of the subplots is a pandemic that has no vaccination/cure. I typically read to escape, and this series, Cinder especially, did not do the job I would have hoped. I still enjoyed the book very much, but still kinda conflicting. 

My favorite book of the week was Fairest. I myself am an absolute sucker for a villain origin story and this did not disappoint one bit. Not only was it entertaining and provided insight into who Levana actually was, but I think without it, I would not have enjoyed Winter so much. There were many references to Levana’s past life and why she felt so attached to Princess Winter despite her clear hatred of her stepdaughter. 

My least favorite would probably by Scarlet. I enjoyed Scarlet as a character, she is a strong, brave, and sassy. However, I really did not like the instalove that took place in this installment. I understand the time strain of the plot and the need to find and rescue her grandmother, but if they had been on the road even for a week or 2 rather than 1-2 days, I think the relationship and feelings between Wolf and Scarlet would have felt more genuine.

Reading Week Costume Day

We will be having a costume day where we would be dressing up as characters from a favorite novel. 

Now, this event is on Thursday, 26 September 2019 and I have not found the perfect outfit for me yet. 

Some options that I considered: 

- Newt Scamander 

I have the scarf, the white shirt, the tie, the pants, but I don’t have the brown vest nor the iconic blue jacket. I didn’t really want to dress up as Newt however, it was suggested to me to match with another friend of mine who is playing as Tina. 

- Thing 2 

I didn’t really know who Thing 2 was. It was just suggested to me by another friend who (again) wanted to match. I have all the materials, but not my favorite one. 

- Evan Hansen 

Now, at first I only knew about the musical but the requirements are that it has to be from a book. While researching, I found out that it is technically a book as well. Not only that, the costume itself is pretty simple, a blue-colored shirt, a cast, some brown pants, and sneakers. Wait a minute... Do I have brown pants? Okay then, never mind. 

- Matilda 

I watched a girl perform a musical number from Matilda at my tuition once. I did not recognize it until a friend suggested it to me. I was surprised because hey, I liked it and it was also kind of simple and easy to wear. It was only a blue dress and black leggings/stockings. I liked it, I have the needed materials to make the dress. Not to mention my hair is frizzy and really suitable for the kind Matilda was wearing hers. So... but I really like the Evan Hansen one... :(
