The Unreality of Time: A Metaphysical Approach to Understand Time.
Have you ever looked at the sky and wondered, right now here I'm watching the sky and after a mere hour this all will be a random event of my past, so basically you are thinking of a present event that will be past in near future. Interesting right? So is the nature of time, an idea that will leave you puzzled.
Time is read by a clock and is divided into hours, minutes and seconds to make the reading a bit precise and easy to read, currently the international unit of time, the second is defined by measuring the electronic transition of cesium atoms. Scientifically speaking Time is a sequence of irreversible events, occurrence of a specific cycle in repetition. It is used to measure change in our surroundings. That's it this is what most of us know about time, but I feel there is more, as the old saying goes "Time is the Mightiest of all" and with this might come some mystery as well.
As Albert Einstein said "People like us who believe in Physics know that the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." This implies time is linear and past and future are mere memories and predictions. In order to get a gist of it let us take an account of a theory from Metaphysics called The Unreality of Time by J.M.E. McTaggart. The Theory argues that every event has a characteristic of being present and not present i.e. future or past, which directs attention to time being a self contradictory idea. McTaggart argued that things that exist in time are false. McTaggart's arguments were segmented into three series namely A series, B series and C series. A series has the properties which are temporary i.e. past, present and future, how come they are temporary? Consider the example given in the very beginning of this article you were gazing at the sky that was your present but after an hour that very present of yours will become your past which clearly implies that time is temporary whereas B series have permanent properties and do not include terminology of past, present and future instead uses terms which depicts a sequence of events i.e. you were looking at the stars after that you thought of them as your memories. A series shows a change in time whereas B series doesn't.
Let us take an example of a timeline : your being had no existence in 1922 but now in 2022 you exist and in 2122 you will no longer exist. According to A series 1922 is past, 2022 is present and 2122 is future and it shows a clear change of time. On the other hand if we are to describe B series it will be like: you were not in existence before 2022, you exist in 2022 and you will not exist after 2022. The B series shows a recurring pattern of existence if we take as time before 2022 be x , 2022 be y and after 2022 be z we can see a pattern. In A series the pattern will be : x, y, z where x ≠ y ≠ z In the B series the pattern will be : x, y, z where theoretically we can see that x ≠ y, y ≠ z but x = z because they both give the same conclusions. This can also be noted that the sequence of B series can be reversed and will give the same conclusion. This whole discussions direct towards the fact that A series is directional and shows a change in time and B series shows a sequence of events which leads to the fact that both the series are dependent on each other and necessarily depends on directionality but the concept of A series is contradictory as our past, present and future changes and cannot be reality which comes to an argument that time cannot be real. This is an argument of series C. So this whole discussion aligns with Albert Einstein's statement of past, present and future being an illusion.

Welcome!
My name is Key. I’m a chemist by training, but in the words of Mary Shelly,
“A man would make but a very sorry chemist, if he attended to that department of human knowledge alone. If your wish is to become really a man of science, and not merely a petty experimentalist, I should advise you to apply to every branch of natural philosophy, including mathematics”
And I agree. Consequently, while I have both a BS in chemistry and a minor in mathematics, I love to learn and explore other branches of science as well. And this is my blog for that.
I interact from @did-you-fall-for-a-shooting-star (links to my other blogs there)

Hello, I'm new to this.
Brief introduction:
Name: Apollyon
Age: 19
Pronouns: they/them
Main topic of this blog: Science(medical studies). But specifically cardiology/phlebotomy.
In depth introduction:
Hi, how're you all doing today? I'm Apollyon, and I really enjoy talking about science. I'm in medical school, and I start my internship next Tuesday (3/14/2023). I'm very excited to start that, I'll be working at a cardiologists office. Which just so happens to be one of my favorite body systems! I absolutely love talking/rambling about all of the different body systems, but I also enjoy talking about Botany & Entomology just as much! So, those two things are mainly what my blog will be about I guess! I hope that you have a wonderful day, and stay safe!!

Geomagnetic storms
In the whole month of September 2023 we had Geomagnetic storm. But what even is that? How it affects our planet?
Geomagnetic or Solar or Magnetic storms are temporary disturbance of Earth's magnetic field. It's caused by explosions on sun's top layer. These explosions can reach Earth differently , there are 2 types of reach . First type is CME or Coronal Mass Ejection - it is when a huge cloud of particles reaches the Earth. Usually it takes about 1-5 days for that. Second type is Solar Flare - it is when a burst of energy and X-rays that reaches the Earth in 8 minutes. These types go together causing Magnetic storm.
It reached the Earth then what? It messes with its magnetic field , and it creates lights which are referred as Northern or Southern lights. Particles are interacting with atmospheric gases which create those colorful lights. Those are better seen at the poles with their low temperatures and their cold-created clouds. And also that's why Ozone layers are thinner at the poles , Magnetic Storms produce atmospheric conditions that liberate more chlorine ions. Because of the cold -created clouds , which interact with chlorine ions creating literal acid , hydrochloric acid and chlorine nitrate , they corrode Ozone layer. So there is one problem with Magnetic Storms , our Ozone layer becomes much thinner , but what else is there?
Of course the main problem with Magnetic storms is that those can interfere with satellites , radio communication , GPS systems and can even cause power blackouts , which could last from 16 days to 2 years and will cost the world a lot money. A lot of Solar storms have been recorded in human history , but nothing will compare with 1859 Carrington event with telegraph systems going haywire , causing them to electroshock the operators and even set paper on fire only with a little spark. There is an 11-year cycle for Magnetic storms , so the next one will be happening in 2025 which can cause hazardous damage to us.
Might as well mention how Solar storms affect out health. Numerous studies show that Geomagnetic storms cause lags of autonomic nervous system and heart rate variability. It's not completely understood yet but still we have a lot of studies on that topic.
Geomagnetic or Solar storms are really scary things , but yet so interesting so i hope i got your interest with that! I will be leaving the material i used so you would go and check if all i said was true :D
General info about Geomagnetic storms , How ozon layer is thinner at the poles , 1859 Carrington event , Geomagnetic storms affecting our health , and just cool video i watched , this video too

November 8th, 2022 To celebrate the first day of this blog, I got some homemade chocolate milkshake and began setting up my notion pages for the upcoming year!
Now, my task is to start my Coursera on "writing in the sciences". This is the first out of five courses I have to get done by the end of this year! I have a feeling updating here will make me motivated to complete them.
About the courses, they're on scientific writing. Would you be interested in posts with tips on how to use scientific language?

George Porter was born on December 6, 1920. A British chemist, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1967. His original research in developing the technique of flash photolysis to obtain information on short-lived molecular species provided the first evidence of free radicals. His later research utilised the technique to study the detailed aspects of the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis, with particular regard to possible applications to a hydrogen economy, of which he was a strong advocate. He was Assistant Director of the British Rayon Research Association from 1953 to 1954, where he studied the phototendering of dyed cellulose fabrics in sunlight.

Spacetime: An Unreal Reality that Surrounds You.
Tumblr media

Spacetime is artfully simple. If I ask you to tell me where you are now? you would simply say the name, of any particular city or place or share your location with me(hypothetically), now what information does that location have? Coordinates of yours or that particular place you mentioned: latitude, longitude, and altitude obviously. But the question included "now" and "now" represents time, so your location that you shared with me won't be much of use if it doesn't have information regarding time so to find you I need four components or co-ordinates latitude, longitude, altitude, and time namely x, y, z & t.To show the cause of our reality we need spacetime. So till now, we know Spacetime is a mathematical model which melds three dimensions with time into a single flexible four-dimensional manifold. As the name itself suggests it is a concept of space and time taken together into a single string.
Hermann Minkowski, one of Albert Einstein's teachers. In 1907 as an explanation of the Theory of Relativity and gave the concept of spacetime and it is also considered Minkowski's spacetime. It is often pictured as a two-dimensional Light-cone diagram, which shows a relationship between x, y, z, and t. All of the physical reality is contained in the cone. Minkowski made an interesting statement which says ''Henceforth space by itself, and time by itself, are doomed to fade away into mere shadows, and only a kind of union of the two will preserve an independent reality". and that is Spacetime. Lightcone diagram is contained with the concept of worldline which is the path an object traces in spacetime.
Tumblr media
Lightcone diagram, with the horizontal axes representing "space" (x) and the vertical axis "time" (t). The walls of the cone are defined by the evolution of a flash of light passing from the past (lower cone) to the future (upper cone) through the present (origin). All of physical reality is contained within this cone; the region outside ("elsewhere") is inaccessible because one would have to travel faster than light to reach it. The trajectories of all real objects lie along "worldlines" inside the cone (like the one shown here in green). In this picture, in which history does not seem to "happen" but is rather "already there". This discussion concludes that reality cannot be justified alone with space that is only with its dimensional description, we need to know about the time it exists as well because as people of Science we believe what we see. In order to justify the existence of an object, we need its space as well as time coordinates. As we know from the Lightcone diagram history doesn't seem to happen but is rather there.
