platonic relationships with oikawa, hanamaki and matsukawa
to sum it up: you dress different than usual and go out with seijoh 4. they end up hyping you up to take pictures for your instagram feed
_______________________________
'Goodness this is so embarrassingggggggg!'
You whined, shoving your head in your hands while standing in front of the boys. Oikawa gave you an encouraging smile from where he stood - a few feet away from you with your phone in his hand.
'Nonsense Y/N-chan, you're doing great!'
Matsukawa and Hanamaki claimed that you were hot for the umpteenth time in the last fifteen minutes and at this point you were blushing from all the attention and compliments directed towards you. You were never the best at posing for pictures and you never really had the urge to take a hundred of them just because you thought you looked somewhat good for once.
You went shopping a few days ago, desperately needing new clothes for summer. Even though you prefered stealing Oikawa's comfy clothes more than being in your own, you wanted to posses some nice articles of clothing for when you go out. When seijoh 4 picked you up a few minutes prior, you were very self conscious about how they're going to react. Oikawa grinned widely and hugged you, all the while praising your outfit and look overall. Matsukawa let out a loud whistle - and you hate to admit it but it made you blush - and Makki whooped beside him with a wink. The one person you were actually the most worried about however, was the only one avoiding your eyes. Iwaizumi mumbled something along the lines of 'You look nice' before taking large strides in front of the four of you. It honestly stung a little, not really the kind of reaction you would want from your crush. But of course, before you even had a chance to sulk about it Oikawa slung an arm around your shoulders and rolled his eyes at the man in front.
'Don't worry about Iwa-chan he's just flustered by how good you look'
'I don't know-'
'Oh come on did you not see him blushing?! My god you're both so dense'
'Yeah what he said'
'Guys for the last time - Iwa-chan doesn't like me!'
'Bullshit'
The three of them replied in unison making you let out a heavy sigh before biting on the inside of your cheek. 'Listen even if he did he's not showing it in any way so why should I bother?' You sighed again, leaning against Oikawa for support while he rubbed your arm. 'Because since you're both so oblivious you're practically made for each other!' Makki flailed his arms around to emphasize his annoyance as Matsukawa backed him up.
This has been a reoccurring discussion with the three of them. Not too long ago you noticed that Iwaizumi has been a bit weird around you, but you decided not to take it to heart since he had trouble with expressing his emotions. Oikawa had tried to convince you it's because Iwa-chan has recently had an epiphany about the feelings he harbored towards you. You laughed in Oikawa’s face when he said that and he sighed exasperatedly, expecting this reaction. You had great respect for the ace of Aoba Johsai. He may appear cold and aggressive but you knew that he was just a pure kind soul under all that scary exterior. You noticed the little things he did. How he'd always have a protein bar in his bag because he knew Oikawa forgets to eat before school and sometimes even during. You noticed how he treated the younger members on the team - like he was their big brother, always offering advice and pushing them to be the best versions of themselves. Not to mention he was also incredibly kind towards you as well. You lost count of how many times he gave you his jacket when you estimated the weather wrong that day, not wanting to carry around a coat if it's going to be too hot. Iwaizumi also helped you study for your exams because he knew that you work better when someone pushes you to do it. You teased him a lot though, much to his dismay. The first time you called him Iwa-chan he absolutely wanted the ground to swallow him whole. He thought that was the most embarrassing thing you could call him, he thought the same in Oikawa's case except the brunette has been doing it since they were four so he's pretty used to it now. You on the other hand thought it was the cutest thing ever and adored the nickname (and the barely noticeable blush on Iwaizumi's cheeks whenever you used it).
Not gonna lie, Iwaizumi was suspicious of you the first time he met you. You were very close with Oikawa which is never good but he wanted to give you a chance in case you're the complete opposite of his setter. Spoiler alert - you were not. Oikawa rubbed off on you easily and you picked up some of his habits subconsciously during your friendship. Unfortunately for Iwaizumi, there was just something about you that kept pulling him towards you. He tried resisting at first but you were friendly to him and his teammates and thankfully were not one of Oikawa's fangirls. So he slowly let you in - and caught feelings along the way. This was brought to him by his fellow third years about a month ago when they confronted him one day after practice. Naturally he tried denying at first because he wasn't sure what exactly he was feeling himself. However after Oikawa - very eagerly - explained to him how crushes work, he realized that he might actually have a crush on you. And that thought was proven true when he saw you in your newest outfit. He only ever saw you wear baggy clothes so even at the slightest bit of your curves showing he couldn't control neither his blush nor the not so wholesome thoughts he was having.
He was trying to bring his heart rate back to normal while walking a few feet ahead only to hear Oikawa's oh so cheerful voice behind him.
'This is the perfect place to take pictures! YN-chan give me your phone'
'Pictures? Absolutely not. I am not photogenic at all'
'Oh shut up and go stand over there'
Oikawa pushed you in front of them while opening the camera on your phone and taking a few selfies before flipping it. You shifted awkwardly and looked at Oikawa with pleading eyes but he pretend not to notice. Hanamaki and Matsukawa acted as the ultimate hype men even though it was obvious you had no idea what you were doing. After a few failed attempts Oikawa groaned and rubbed his temples in frustration.
'Y/N-chan why are you so awkward! I didn't get any good pics at all!'
'I told you I'm not photogenic dumbass!'
'That's not it it's just that-'
'You're doing it wrong'
The four of you looked at Iwaizumi when he suddenly spoke up before taking the phone from Oikawa despite the setter’s protests. He scrolled through the pictures Oikawa took, scoffing and giving him a glare before pointing the camera towards you. Your eyes widened the tiniest bit and you blushed ever so slightly. Iwa looked very focused on your phone while the only thing you could focus on was the loud thumping of your heart. 'Move your legs further apart. Not too far' You did what he told you to and received a small nod from him, his eyes never leaving your phone. 'Now put one hand in your pocket and run the other one through your hair' You did that too and and you swore there was a small smirk tugging at his lips but even if there was one he was quick to hide it. 'Alright now try not to focus so much on us and the camera. Try to relax and look away if it helps' You made eye contact with the other three who were smiling knowingly at you, making you blush a little bit more. 'Damn Y/N you could be a model' Matsukawa commented making you laugh in response, giving Iwaizumi the perfect opportunity to snap a picture. He showed you the result and you needed a few seconds to process that it was actually you in the picture. He smirked at you and asked if you wanted to take more. You agreed and he kept giving you advice on your poses while cracking a few jokes here and there to capture your smile.
You ended up with a few quite nice pictures and gave Iwa a big hug to thank him for his help. His arms wrapped around you as he chuckled claiming it was nothing. The sweet moment was of course interrupted by the obnoxious Oikawa pulling you away from Iwa and motioning for you to walk. 'Come on lovebirds we have a movie to catch' He rolled his eyes but you didn't miss the small smile he was trying to hide. You smacked his arm and took a step forward only to feel a hand grip your wrist gently. Cautiously, Iwa slipped his hand in yours, not daring to look at you, but you did see how the back of his neck reddened when you intertwined your fingers with his as you two walked behind the trio.

a/n: This is part of a series I’m doing called As Per Usual! It’s made up events and adventures with being best friends with the Seijoh Four! Hope you enjoy~
As Per Usual. ✨Masterlist.✨
---
It was after school hours and there was no practice, but there was still some behind-the-scenes stuff that needed to be dealt with. And the third years picked second-year Iwaizumi to be an errand boy. Iwaizumi was on his way to the teacher’s lounge with some paperwork he had to drop off for the coaches when he heard it.
“Did you hear, Y/n that first year got in a fight with Haru from the third year?”
That completely halted Iwaizumi’s walk and lingered to listen to two of his classmates.
“Did he just say…” Iwa whispered to himself.
“Isn’t Haru that tall guy on the basketball team?” One of the classmates asked.
“Yeah. I heard Y/n punch him in the face. Surprised they were even able to reach him.” The other said.
“Hold on...Y/n, did what?” Iwaizumi whispered to himself. He walks closer to the two people talking. “Hey. what did you just say about Y/n?”
“Oh hi, Iwaizumi. Word on the grapevine is that Y/n and Haru were fighting about something… All I heard from people that were there, Y/n came out of nowhere and walked up to the third year and just socked him.”
“Probaly a lover’s quarrel.”
“The first year? Y/n, right?” Iwaizumi questioned the two students.
“Yup. Why do you know them?”
“Yeah just met them. One of my friend’s kohai.” Iwaizumi rubs the back of his head. He was pretty sure you weren’t the type of person to be violent. He didn’t know this Haru guy, he did know he was on the basketball team. That was the extent of what Iwaizumi knew about him.
“I guess I wouldn’t want to get into their bad side. Their senpai probably is having to deal with that already. ”The other guy spoke. Both started laughing.
“Yeah…I will talk to you guys later.” Iwaizumi lifted the papers that he was holding up, somewhat lost in his thoughts. “Got to go to the teacher’s lounge.”
“See you dude, and hey you might see Y/n there. They are still getting lectured or something.”
“Make sure you don’t get them mad. They might try to do a number on you too.” The other classmate added and they both start laughing again.
Iwaizumi waved goodbye and began his trek to the teacher’s lounge once again.
“Huh,” Iwaizumi whispered to himself. This is pretty bad, he thought. Only the second week and they are already causing trouble for themselves.
He finally made it to the teacher’s lounge, slide the door open and the first thing he saw was Y/n getting a lectured.
By the door, you looked up and made eye contact with Iwaizumi. You gave him a shy smile and he did the same before the teacher that was talking to you told you to pay attention. Your head lowered as you turned back to your teacher.
The teacher talking to you sighs, “ I’m going to give you a warning this time–it's the first few weeks and you are doing this kind of thing, come on. You're lucky that I know your parents.”
Iwaizumi really wanted to know what was happening on your side, but he didn’t have any excuse to say longer in the teacher’s lounge–he only had to drop off some paperwork.
From the corner of your eyes, you watched Iwaizumi walk out, but before he did he waved at you.
To be honest, Iwaizumi didn't fully understand why he was waiting. He was curious as to what had happened. In the same breath, he wanted to make sure you were ok. He knew whatever happened was for a reason.
After opening the door, you walked out. Iwaizumi immediately caught your attention. He looked up from his shoes with a smile.
“Hey, Iwaizumi-senpai.” You shyly said. “Were you waiting for me?”
“Hi, Y/n, uh. Yeah I was. I–what are you up to?”
“Right now, uh, well I have to go to the gym to speak with…this third year.”
“Oh, well. I can walk you. I’m going back there anyway,” Iwaizumi offered.
There was silence between the two of you as you both walked back to the gym. There weren’t many students left on campus, so the halls were empty. You didn’t know what to say and there were only a few times that you talked to Iwaizumi. And during those times Hanamaki was with you.
“So, Y/n. What kind of activ-
“You know…don’t you?” You stopped walking. Iwaizumi soon stops as well.
“Uh, well yes,” Iwaizumi puts his hands into his pockets, “ I just overheard about it from two classmates while going to the teacher’s lounge.”
You sigh. “Do you think Takahiro knows?”
“Maybe. Maybe not. Has he tried contacting you?”
“I turned my phone off.” You laughed slightly. “I was kind of afraid to leave it on if he knew.”
“What about your parents?”
“Not so scary. My dad just asked me if he deserved it and my mom…well my mom. Let’s not talk about that convo.” You both started walking again.
“I see.”
There was another silence as you walked towards the gym. You can sense that Iwaizumi was pondering the topic.
You two stopped in front of the gym. Both of you can hear the basketball team practicing.
“Can I ask you why?” Iwa breaking the quietness. “If that’s okay.”
“Yeah. uh, let’s see…well he dated my friend (friend’s name) in secret.” You started the explanation.
“Wait, really? (friend’s name), the one in third year, right?”
“That’s her. She has been helping me out besides, Hiro.”
“She is nice. I know her cousin. Sorry, continue.”
“No, it's okay. So she was tired of having to keep it a secret, and when she wanted to make it public. And that’s where it went down. She went up to him thinking that she could…He humiliated her. Saying that she was lying and that she was desperate to even say all that. It happened in front of his friends and some other people.”
“What the heck?”
“I know, right? Anyways, after my friends and I comforted her. I wanted to go get her some snacks. Then I saw him.” You looked into the gym. The basketball players were taking a break and then you saw him again. Iwaizumi looked too. Haru was drinking water and talking to some of teammates laughing as if nothing happened.
“And well I slapped him. People are saying that I socked it but I didn’t. But anyway, It wasn’t–I couldn’t help it. I was mad at him. He recognized me and he figured out why I did it at the moment. He try to play it off, but I saw the look on his face. Before anything else could be done. I was caught by one of the supervisors.” You finally finished.
“Wow, the audacity of this guy,” Iwa shook his head, “I’m glad you stood up for your friend. But how is your hand?”
“Slightly sore, but worth it honestly.” You showed him your hand, “Now I have to apologize to that bastard.”
“Do you want me to give you some backup?”
“Nah, I will be fine… Just…If Takahiro asks if you saw me. You didn’t,” you smiled, “I’m not ready for another lecture, especially from him.”
“No problem. My lips are sealed,” Iwaizumi nods, “You and Hanamaki are close?”
“Yeah, he is like the annoying older brother I never asked for.” You playfully rolled your eyes. “He has been there for me through a lot of stuff when we were younger.”
“That’s like Oikawa and me. We are childhood friends.”
“Oh, I haven’t met him yet.”
“Yeah, you don’t want to.” Iwa zones out for a second.
“Is he that bad?” You laughed.
“Not too bad, but he can be a little dramatic.” Iwaizumi ponder on you meeting Oikawa.
“Well, I should get going, and apologize.” You pointed with your thumbs behind you towards the gym doors.
“I will see you around, Y/n.” Iwaizumi turns around and starts walking to the clubrooms.
“Iwaizumi,” You quickly said before he was fully away from you.
“Hmm?”
“Thanks for not jumping the gun and judging me like how everyone else did. They think I’m this brute or something.”
“No problem. Not going to lie. I was a little worried, but talking about it helped me realize something.”
“And what is that?”
“That you are a really good friend. And I’m glad we meet.”
“Oh,” You felt a little shy, “Thanks… I’m glad we meet too.”
“But a little advice, no more violence okay?”
“Yeah,” You laughed, “I will see you around.”
Then you watched as Iwaizumi walked towards the area where the clubhouses are located. Surely Hanamaki was there. Turning back to the gym doors, you stood there, for a moment before taking a deep breath and walking into the gym.
“I guess, it has to be done.” you lower your head and walked into the gym. “Hello Sensei, I’m sorry for intruding on your practice. But I’m Y/n. If I can have permission to talk to Haru for a moment.”
“So you the one they are talking about in the teacher’s lounge?”
You sighed, “Yes.”
“Go ahead.”
You thanked the coach and bowed to the coach and the assistants that were present before walking over to Haru.
“Hey, can we talk? Your coach permitted us to.”
“Sure.”
Some of Haru’s friends that were on the team snickered and Haru flashed them a smile before you two walked out of the gym.
“Listen, I’m sorry for slapping you.”
“Such a sincere apology, Y/n.” Haru mocked.
You glared at him. “I should actually punch you this time-
“Sorry, sorry. Okay. apology accepted okay. Geez, so impulsive.” Haru puts his hands up.
You shook your head. “Whatever. Like I said I’m sorry for slapping you, but I’m not sorry for why I did it.” You took a step closer. You were starting to feel anxious, your hands slightly trembling, but you pushed forward. “If you come near (friend’s name) again. I will not hesitate to protect her.”
You turned around and took a few steps thinking of leaving it with that, but stopped and turned back one more time, “You hurt her and she cared for you. But after what happened. Even if you apologize, she will not give you a second chance.”
“Whatever.” Haru looked away from you.
“I don’t know your reasoning. But whatever you did this for. Was it worth it?” Haru didn’t answer you. You shook your head and started to walk away.
“Y/n,” Haru said.
You stopped walking, not turning.
“How…is she doing?” Haru continued.
“What do you think?” You scoffed.
“For what it's worth, I do care about her.”
In response, you shook your head and began walking away. There was no point in pursuing the matter further, you apologized and that was that. The only thing you were glad about was that no one was talking about your friend and what happened to her, but rather what you did.
In addition, you were glad that Iwaizumi did not judge you too quickly, as everyone else had. It was going to be a long school term, you thought.
After you finished your walk back to the main building, you went to the locker room to retrieve your things. You changed into your regular shoes. The thought crossed your mind, and so you took out your phone and turned it back on.
As expected once everything was powered up, you had a lot of missed calls and text messages from Hanamaki. You chuckled and shook your head. You decided to finally call him back.
The first ring and he answered. You were bombarded with questions.
“I’m on my way home. Yes, I dealt with everything…”
---
end notes~
-I was going to end this once Y/n stepped foot into the gym after talking to Iwa, but I felt like having the convo of Haru and Y/n was necessary.
-Iwaizumi lowkey pretended to leave, but stayed a little longer after he talked to Y/n, just in case something happened again. He didn’t try to eavesdrops in the convo with Haru, but glad that you stood your ground.
-lowkey Iwa won’t admit this, but he is kind of intimidated by you. lmao
-Also, in somewhat of the timeline, this is after you already meet each other, and this was the early days of friendship between Y/n and Iwa.

it’s five in the morning, a.m. is playing
Tumblr media
…and you, oikawa, iwaizumi, hanamaki, and matsukawa are saying your goodbyes.
Tumblr media
word count : 0.59k
now playing : a.m. by one direction
notes / warnings : platonic!seijoh four x gn!reader, contains s2 and timeskip spoilers
Tumblr media
"this is a terrible idea."
"we're graduating in a few hours, what are they going to do? expel us?"
oikawa pokes his tongue out at iwaizumi, causing the latter to playfully shove his shoulder, almost hitting hanamaki in the process. a laugh escapes yours and matsukawa's lips; you were going to miss this. you were going to miss them.
it's chilly on the rooftop of aoba johsai high school, its concrete walls towering high above the only world the five of you have ever known. the rest of miyagi are probably still sound asleep, at peace. a shiver passes through through the entirety of your body, you wrap your arms around yourself in an attempt to keep warm.
truthfully, you didn't know what to feel when oikawa, iwaizumi, hanamaki, and matsukawa showed up at your door almost half an hour ago, demanding that you take one last little trip with them. who were you to deny your friends one request, knowing it might be the last one they'll make for a while? while sneaking into seijoh wasn’t what you expected, hearing their laughter echo up towards the sky made everything make sense.
oikawa sighs, hands stuffed inside the pockets of his hoodie as he looked out into the horizon, "it's the end of an era."
"we're graduating, stop making it sound like we're dying or something." matsukawa snickers, but anyone who looked at him could tell that it was only a front. there's a bit of dejection in his tone, a certain sadness in his words despite the teasing.
"oikawa's right though."
it's iwaizumi who speaks, voice strangely sentimental. it's rare that he ever agreed with oikawa, even rarer that his voice employed the softness that it currently did. the four of you blink back at him. iwaizumi rolls his eyes at your reactions, “don’t look at me like that. i have feelings too.”
"i guess we won't know when we'll be together like this again," hanamaki nods, "california and argentina aren't exactly a train ride away."
silence fills the air, thick and palpable. the five of you have spent the past few days pretending like you still had all the time in the world, but everything feels much more real now. the inevitability of your eventual parting comes crashing down, an ache and heaviness filling your chests — one much more painful than when they lost their ticket to nationals.
voice shaky, you turn to leave, "we should go."
"just a few more seconds." iwaizumi replies, grabbing your wrist to stop you from leaving. hanamaki hands you a handkerchief from his pocket.
so the five of you watch the sun begin its ascent on the horizon, light beginning to stream through the dark blue sky, signalling the arrival of a new day. none dare speak a word, simply enjoying the little time you have left together. you sigh, letting your tears flow free; everyone else follows your lead.
"every game i play," oikawa breaks the silence, sincerity and determination in his eyes, "i'll be looking for your faces in the crowd."
you nod, knowing that he meant it. "we'll be cheering for you, wherever we may be."
"we'll see each other again, right?" hanamaki asks, uncertain.
pure confidence laces matsukawa's voice, looking at the four of you with a smile.
"we'll find our way back."
none of you really know if there's any truth to his words, unsure if your futures really held a place for your friendship. time is cruel and fate is much more. but for now, the belief that you'll find each other again is enough.

It wasn’t your choice, being here. You were forced to come, Tooru practically dragging you to the gym while you whine and complain, his cocky smile and fake charm trying it’s best to convince you to stop resisting. You barely know a thing about volleyball, even though always going to Tooru’s games and helping him practice when you were little, you never really caught the whole jist of the sport. He vowed to help you, to always be there when you have questions about it.
So with an elongated sigh, and a pinch to the bridge of your nose, you agree. You would become the manager of the Seijoh Volleyball Club.
~.~.~.~
The first practice you had attended consisted of balls flying, smacking aggressively on the ground; your eyes not being able to keep up with them, instead finding entertainment in the players instead. Tooru had introduced you to them, each of them holding their hand out for you to grab and shake gently before letting go and subtly wiping your hands on your uniform. He had mentioned another best friend, one that he had been trying so hard to get you to meet, wanting to complete his holy trinity. When you refused to go anywhere he would moan in defeat, collapsing on your bed while fake pouting and turning around to pretend that “y/n doesn’t love me anymore”. You would always just hit him with a pillow after that, resulting in an all out war. You had assumed the other guy refused as well, as Tooru never mentioned if his poor friend desired to meet you.
You guessed even after the ace met you for the first time the desire still never came up, his nonchalant nod and monotone greeting of his name showing proof of that, even before he turned around to walk away without a care in the world. He never took your hand, he never even looked at you; must have been too busy, throwing the ball in the air before running and leaping upwards, smacking the ball on the other side of the court, a loud grunt bleeding through his throat when he misses his target, running to and under the net to receive the ball. You watched him, pupils stuck on the way his body moved so flawlessly through the air, the way his rough, calloused hand hits the ball, making it mold around his palm and forcing it through the air without resistance, the loud slap that echoed throughout the gym when the ball made contact with the polished floors, the annoyed glare he made when the ball didn’t go where it was supposed to.
Snap. Snap. Snap.
“Y/nnnnnnn,” Tooru mewled, his fingers waving in front of your face, his fingers snapping together to grab your attention. His head turns, eyes widening dramatically when he finds what you were so distracted by.
Only regret ran through his mind at that moment.
~.~.~.~
You had attended most of Tooru’s games, but you had never really paid attention, as your eyes kept drifting towards the scoreboard and the clock, impatiently waiting for the final whistle to be blown. This game however, was different. Your attention was nailed to this game, your hair pulled back and your hands gripping the rotation sheet ever so tightly, your breath coming in hitches when the score rises, the atmosphere becoming so much more intense than you remember.
Awe was painted all over your face as you gaze at your best friend setting the ball so beautifully among the court, it flying towards the wing spiker just in time for him to strike it down on the other side of the net, gusts of wind following after- the hair of the libero on the other team fluffing up as they stare at the number four player. You watch him smirk in victory and his hands balling up in congratulating fists. The rest of his teammates whooped and cheered, patting him harshly on the back, a shared smile between him and Tooru before their knuckles joined in a tiny bump before returning to their sides.
Then, his eyes went to yours. The sweat dripping down his heated face and his heaving chest disappeared after you caught a glimpse of his green iris’. They were piercing; cutting into your brain and engraving themselves in your memory. How were you ever going to get them out of your mind?
You didn’t notice him walking towards you, his arms slightly swaying back and forth as he walked, his quiet footsteps picking up speed only a tad towards you. Then, as your mouth opens in an attempt to speak, the light of his green eyes floods your pupils when the words catch in your throat. “I- you were-”
“Y/n-chan! How’d you think of the game? Being so up close and personal like that has to make a difference from the stands, right?” Tooru’s voice bleeds straight into your hearing, interrupting your stutter. This was one thing you’d have to thank him for later.
~.~.~.~
“Wait, I’m confused, what’s that for?” You point to an arrow on your clipboard, looking up in confusion towards anyone who would listen. The captain was busy announcing whatever he wanted to the team, making them groan in annoyance and roll their eyes, Tooru only continuing with his story.
“What’s what for?” You heard from beside you, the low grumble of his voice seeping into your ears, making you jump backwards. The palms of his hands move to grip your arms firmly so as to not let you lose balance, his rough fingers wrapping around the flesh of your arm to pull you back up. He only stares, more of a glare, if you were being honest. He looked madly confused, or it may have been his resting bitch face, you don’t know. It wasn’t until you were back on your feet when you decided to speak up again, subtly avoiding eye contact by letting your eyes zip from random item to item, finding purchase on the metal clip of the plastic board you were holding.
“Uhm, I’m just confused about what play this is,” you say, your finger pointing towards the specific circle and arrow you were questioning. His head tilts downward, his eyebrows furrowing as he narrows in towards your problem, a hand on his chin.
“That’s a back row attack.”
“A what?” You question, looking up towards him for an explanation, only finding his eyes still stuck on the paper.
“A back row attack. It’s when a hitter from the back row jumps up towards the ten-foot line and hits the ball on the other side,” he abbreviates, a little hand gesture making its way through the air.
“Oh, really? How would that work? Why wouldn’t the setter just toss the ball to a front row player?” Volleyball gets more confusing everytime you think about it. He glimpsed up at you, took a short breath, then shifted his feet, like he was getting ready for a long conversation; you just stood there, waiting for him to explain a little bit more before taking a quick look around the gym, the cart of balls standing out to your line of vision. You hold a smirk, his head following your movements as you turn around to set the clipboard on the bench and walk towards the cart full of balls, picking one up and bouncing it on the floor.
A single eyebrow raises, but he still follows you to the court. “So, if I were to toss...to,” you put a finger on your chin, pondering, “back there,” you point to middle-back, taking a step towards the spot, “where would I be over here?”
He understood immediately, nodding his head as his legs made their way to you, scaling the court with narrow eyes once he halts beside you. “Well, depending on the play and the rotation, you could be anywhere on the court, so you could toss to them from pretty much any position.” His explanation sounded brief, vague. It was just enough for you to get the idea, though.
“Uh, go stand over there,” he urges, pointing to the middle back position. “Do you know how to hit a ball?” You look at him incredulously, feeling a little embarrassed to say you barely know how to do your approach.
“Not...really?” You compromise, shrugging as you backpedal to the back row position.
“Here,” he jogs up to you, handing you the ball, “take this and go to where I was just now.” You comply, heading over to that position, shifting the ball between your hands. “Give me one.”
“What?” You question him as he pulls his ankle back up towards his back, stretching his quad.
“Toss me one and watch me.” Oh.
You do as told, under-handingly tossing the ball up towards the ten foot line, studying his footwork. His form was perfect, you thought, his right foot leading his approach until he jumps into the air, practically flying flawlessly as his arm comes up behind him at a perfect angle to shoot the ball straight down one of the back corners.
The setter on the other side of the court could see the sparkle in your eyes, the glistening of awe in your face as you admire his best friend. He had a feeling you would like him once you met him, but not like this. The idea of you two suddenly being fond of each other ate away at him, like he was about to lose someone. Maybe two.
~.~.~.~
Away games were the worst. You hated sharing a small bus with smelly boys who don’t know a thing called “boundaries”. They hover over you, their arms flailing and their mouths running. You were annoyed, to say the least, trying to refrain from rolling your eyes at the boy's antics, crossing your arms to separate yourself from them. You didn’t even get the chance to sit next to Tooru, who got stuck on the inside of Kindaichi, messing around with Matsukawa and Makki.
You were uncoincidentally stuck with the captain’s best friend, Iwaizumi. You didn’t mind him of course, as he would put Tooru’s ego in place and tell everyone to shut up before you explode on them. You didn’t know if he noticed your irritation, your bugged eyes staring out the window, your head leaning against the glass. His head was also turned your way, you guessed to doze off to the moving trees outside, but you didn’t notice the way his eyes focused on your hair, subconsciously trying to count the strands while you look away, your eyelids drooping downwards ever so often.
Your dreary state was interrupted by a plastic water bottle being caught in the air, your nose coming face to face with a hand- the hand of the man sitting next to you, you infer.
“Guys, what the hell did I just say? Stop throwing shit around!” He yells towards his teammates, their playful demeanor turning pensive, their heads rotating away guiltily.
“Thanks,” you mutter, the words barely leaving your throat when he pulls away.
“No problem,” he dismisses, forcing himself to not glance up at you when he shoves the bottle in Makki’s hands.
“Hey- what the hell?” Makki whines.
“It’s yours, dumbass, take it.”
~.~.~.~
The red marker covering the white page gawked at you, showing you how you weren’t good enough for anything better. You couldn’t look at it any longer, the bottom lip of your frown quivering before you bring the inside of your elbow up to your mouth, muffling your sniffles and absorbing the steamy tears that scurry down your raw cheeks. You were better than this, what the hell is wrong with you?
Hiding in the storage closet wasn’t a good idea, The initial plan was clever, sneaking in there to calm yourself down before practice, needing to keep an optimistic mindset. That plan was ruined as soon as you broke down though, slow, and quiet but clear footsteps closing in on the door, like they were leaning their ear in to listen. Your mind hadn’t kept up with the time, as you hiccupped and sobbed even after the door was opened and light shined through the dark.
“Y/n?” You whipped your head away, refusing to look at them as you deal with your mortification. They scoot in, shutting the door until only a little line of light cracked through. “Y/n, what happened?” They sat next to you, closely you may add, dipping their head down to try and see your face. You avoid them, trying your hardest not to cry in front of them. “Don’t turn away from me, look at me,” they hush, placing their fingertips on your forearms, gently pulling them towards their direction, your head hanging down as your arms are removed from your mouth. “Look at me.”
You sniffle with exhaustion as you drag your head up, finally letting them inspect your glassy eyes, tears continuing to run down without fail. They had felt the hot liquid stream down their thumb as they wiped it away from your face, caressing your cheek as you fret.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
You shake your head.
“Do you want my help?”
You nod. And you don’t move away when you find the vice captain’s hand reaching behind your head to cradle it as you whimper in his shoulder.
~.~.~.~
Study sessions with Iwaizumi became a regular thing. Whether it was him coming to your house and staying for dinner, or it was you falling asleep on his desk, you two never stopped doing it. Even after your grades went back up, the red marker leaving your memory almost completely when you get your new tests back. He gave you a look of approval, nodding his head a single time to show his acknowledgement. He wasn’t surprised when you came up to him and tugged him into a tight embrace, his large hands coming to hold your figure like second nature. He was used to this, your excited hugs and your bursts of energy and your lack of an attention span and your bright and sunny nature. It was funny to him how much other people burn you out, like a dying fire that needs more gasoline.
The second your body hit his, a breath slipped out, creating a little chuckle that filled your ears, the cozy warmth of his chest slightly leaning into you.
“Finally! I finally did it. Proud ‘a me?” You smirk at him, feeling a little full of yourself at the moment.
“Sure, sure, yeah,” he replies, slowly shoving your body off his, your feet stumbling as you let go of him, struggling to find balance. The hands wrapped around your arms keep you firmly planted on the ground, gently letting go the moment you stop moving around. They dive straight into his pockets, his head lifting to see your cheery expression. “You did good.”
You only smile in response, opening your mouth before a hand was planted on your shoulder.
“Y/n-chan! How’d you do? I heard trusty Iwa-chan helped you study!”
“Shut up, Shittykawa,” Iwaizumi grumbles.
“I did really well, thanks to trusty Iwa-chan,” you emphasize, a glare shooting your way once the sound of your voice finds Iwaizumi’s ears. He didn’t like that. Tooru giggled, his hand half-covering his mouth to ‘try’ and stifle his laugh.
“Well, I did amazing too, in case you guys wanted to know.” A cocky grin made its way through Tooru’s face.
“We didn’t.”
“That’s awesome, Tooru!”
“Yeah, yeah, I know, I’m amazing.”
“Shut up, Crappykawa,” you and Iwa both chant in unison.
“Aw, c’mon, you guys!”
~.~.~.~
“I have to admit something, Y/n,” Tooru blurts in your room while he sits on your bed, his head hanging low while his fingers trace the thread patterns of your blanket. You spin your chair to face him, the atmosphere brought down when you see his quiet expression. Oikawa Tooru was never quiet.
“I thought letting you two meet was a good idea, I wanted us to be the power trio,” he strained a chuckle. “I just didn’t know that you two would become more than friends.” Your eyes expand, your breath immediately slowed and your movements coming to a full stop.
‘What do you mean by that, Tooru?”
“You know what I mean,” he waves you off dismissively. “I see the way you look at him, Y/n. I see the way he looks at you. I’m like the biggest third wheel in the world.”
You were confused, shocked. Was what was coming out of his mouth true? Did you really have different feelings about him than anyone else? Did he have them for you?
“I was mad, at first.”
“What?”
“Yeah. Like, really mad. I didn’t want you guys to have all that lovey-dovey stuff together when I’m right here, you know,” he gestures to himself; your head tilts in understanding, nodding. “I guess you could say I was jealous. It just irked me that you two never wanted to meet and then when you do you immediately fall head over heels for each other, completely ignoring the fact that I was the one to bring you two together.” He didn’t feel left out, like he did before, though. He had watched you two for a while, realizing that you two need him just as much as he needs you and you two need each other. He felt as if this was really who he belonged with. You guys.
You just stared at him, the cogs in your brain trying their best to process his words, your fingers coming together into a fidget. Your wide eyes landed on his, and although his pupils were nailed to the bed, you could see the sadness that didn’t belong. His eyebrows were furrowed in a way that made him look like he was worried, regretful, yet his lips stayed thinned together as his hair dangled in front of him. You could tell he was trying really hard to say this. Even if it was The Oikawa Tooru, he wasn’t invincible.
You try to recall all the times you’ve met with Iwaizumi, all the conversations you had, all the tiny contact you made when your fingers had mistaken each other’s arm or fingers for the textbook, all the times he caught your lingering gaze, but refused to let it go, the times he caught up with you after practice, slightly jogging towards you and stopping once he reaches the same spot as you- you naturally having to speed up every once in a while as his legs were much longer than yours.
“You’re right,” you mumble, your words coming out slow and smooth, your eyes focusing back on him from the blurry space you just dropped yourself in. His eyes have a double-take on your face, moving back and forth from the blanket to your face of realization. “I do like him more than a friend. And it’s because of you.” His back stretches upwards, sitting up straight. “So, thank you, Tooru.” It was now his turn to be utterly stunned- thank...you? “I’m glad you convinced me to join the volleyball club, to meet Iwaizumi, to allow us to have these experiences together, thank you.”
What could he say? “Your welcome”? It seemed unfit for the situation, he figured. So instead of plastering on a confident smirk and showing his “Great King”, he exhales deeply, looking straight into the holes in your eyes. “Just don’t break his heart, yeah?”
You nod in assurance, returning a determined eye. “I can do that.”
~.~.~.~
The next few weeks passed slowly, like the clock gave an extra two minutes with every second that went by. You had barely seen him, as he walked away from you every time he noticed your presence. He refused to look at you, the back of his head being the only thing to face you during practice. Why was he avoiding you?
“Iwa.” He doesn’t look up at you from putting a ball back in the cart, shutting his eyes before turning around. He stops when your hand grasps his arm, pulling him into a stop. He tugs his arm back, your grip hardening on his flesh, your sharp glare not letting him leave. “Iwaizumi.”
He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose while screwing his eyes shut. “What.”
“Why have you been avoiding me?” You bring your hand up in the air with question.
“Why have I been what?”
“You heard me. Now answer me.” Your tone was strict, firm. It annoyed the hell out of him that it made him want to confess.
“I haven’t been doing shit. Stop following me like a lost puppy,” he growls, side eyeing you.
“Excuse me?” Your head bucks back, surprised. With one last tug, his arm is out of your reach as he walks away with his dark demeanor.
Then, he was gone.
~.~.~.~
You had spent a couple days thinking about it. How the conversations were so short, how he just completely dismissed you. Tooru watched you two go back and forth between bickering, you usually being the one to start the conversation before he tells you to fuck off. He was curious as well. You mean, that’s what you assumed from the conversation they were having in the gym before practice, ceasing your stroll when you hear their voices echo throughout the room, your body hiding behind the door so they wouldn’t notice.
“Iwa-chan, we talked about this, she just wants to be your friend, stop being so mean to her!”
“Whatever.”
“Iwaizumi, I’m serious. Stop being so cold to her,” the captain’s voice changes, his playful attitude gone in a swift motion, replaced with a scowl when Iwaizumi’s wide eyes find him. “What did she do to make you like this, huh? Such a meanie, Iwa-chan.”
“I’m not,” the number four defends, looking Oikawa up and down before taking a step back.
“Oh, I think you are,” he taunts, “you too were getting along so beautifully, it looked like. What happened? Scared?” He smirks.
“Of what?” Iwa’s eyes twitched, his face flushed.
“Of her not liking you back.”
The ace stammers, his mouth not knowing what words to spit out as he looks his best friend in the face.
He was serious, wasn’t he.
Iwa stood there, gaping at Oikawa’s satisfied expression while stumbling on his words, trying to find the best one to respond with. But he couldn’t. There was nothing he could say at this moment that would change the way Oikawa thinks, because Iwa knows he’s right. He knows.
~.~.~.~
You were frozen in place, your heart seemed to stop working, you couldn’t tell. Your nerves had stuttered a couple times- you weren’t sure you were even alive at this point. The hand that placed itself on your mouth had fallen to your side, leaving your silent gasps less silent now. Thankfully, they hadn’t heard you, but once you rushed inside with purpose and resolution, the gym door slamming shut, their heads had whipped your way.
“You’re telling me you liked me this whole time?!” You shout to him, walking closer and closer until you arrive right in front of him. His eyes stayed glued to you, confusion stirring back and forth throughout his whole system. He was scared. “Is that why you’ve been a dick to me?”
“I didn’t-”
“Now, now, Iwa-chan, let her talk.”
“Tooru,” you lour, “stop talking.”
“I’ve liked you since I saw that jump serve you did at my first practice, and you’re telling me that you like me too? Even though you’ve been avoiding me and pushing me away and telling me to leave you alone and-”
“You what?”
“What? I like you? Yes! I do! Now can you finally stop acting like an asshole?”
Silence.
“Uh…”
“He means yes, Y/n,” Tooru cuts in while patting the vice captain on the shoulder, laughing it off.
You take a deep breath, running a hand through your hair as you sigh. “Okay,” you exhale, “well, then...are we? Do you-”
“Mhm! He would love to,” Oikawa answers again.
You look at Tooru once more, biting your lip to hide your smile before nodding once towards him.
Thank you, Tooru.

There was a way in the posture of his stance, how he stood over the desk, hand supporting his body while staring down at your paper—deep veins protruding out of his skin, his muscles stiff as his concentration stayed on you and only you. It was like he was an addiction, something that you knew you couldn't have but just so wanted to taste—have a small bite of what was Iwaizumi Hajime, and never let go.
However, as the two of you were alone in the empty classroom, going over the questions that you had gotten incorrect on your last quiz, trying to find solutions that apparently he could solve—as the highest-ranking member of the class—all your mind could pay attention to was the feeling of his breath on the back of your neck. How it made shivers run up the back of your spine, heartbeat racing as a need inside of you grew into something worthwhile. Something that you just couldn't ignore.
"Iwa." You sighed, closing the textbook and placing your hand over his—the dainty fingers touching the calloused palms, noticing how rough and patched they were, wishing that you could hold them all of the time—walk through the hallways as his girl, as the person that was his and only his. "We've been at this for an hour now—if we're ever going to make any progress, it won't be today. My brain is practically fried."
He sighed, bringing his arm up and running a hand through the mess of hair on the top of his head. Brown locks falling just above his eyebrows as his eyes narrowed on you—determination at the tip of his tongue. "No," he shook his head, believing that he was capable of getting you that perfect score, that one-hundred percent in the class. "I can help, Y/N. Just trust me, okay? If anyone's going to help, it's going to be me."
With his words, you nodded—having been in somewhat of a trance in the deepness of his gaze, blood rushing hot whilst he wrapped an arm around your shoulder, squeezing you quickly and reopening the notes. You bit your lip, having him so close—a mere ruler length away from your body was torture, it was completely threatening to every sense of rationality in your brain.
He was your tutor, that person that was trusted to keep your grades up—to make sure that you succeeded in class and didn't lose your perfect GPA—but he was also Iwaizumi. He was that boy who'd hold the door open for students in the halls even if he was running late for class. The type of guy to always remember your birthday when you're only acquaintances and get you a small little gift for the special occasion.
If there was any perfect guy in the world, any boy that neared your perfect match—it was him.
So, knowing that you might never get the opportunity again, that you may never be as close as you are now—as close as two platonic friends could be—you took his palm in yours and asked him the simplest question that any girl could say to the guy of her dreams. "Can I kiss you?" A little stutter spoke in your voice, nerves wracking your mind and fear in your eyes as he froze mid-sentence, trailing off on the probability theory that you'd been working on.
There was a bit of hesitation in his stature, a weary nature that you hadn't quite seen before—it was frightening, the unexpected, whatever could come as a result from that one question. From that one single chance that you'd decided to take. "What did you just say?" He looked up, eyes on yours, hand still beneath the softness of your skin as you gulped. Before you could even respond, Iwaizumi took matters into his own hands—grabbing your cheeks and surging forwards, pressing his lips to your own.
It felt like ecstasy, him kissing you. If heaven was real in any way, this would be what it'd feel like to live there. To feel the wonders of pure paradise all of the time, twenty-four-seven in absolute bliss—no worries in the air, just utter happiness, and sensuality. He was your match, the person that you'd always wanted, and now you finally had him—you finally had him above you, tilting your head up with his pointer beneath your chin as his mouth moved with yours.
"Iwa." You attempted to say between kisses, breaths heavy and harsh, heart pounding out of your chest as he pulled away—eyes wide and lust-filled. "Iwa are you sure about this? I don't want you doing anything you're uncomfortable with." You folded your hands in your lap, watching as he sat back into the desk beside yours, falling into the chair as he once again ran his fingers through his tangled hair.
After a moment of silence, a smile overtook his face—a bright and wonderful beam of joy directed towards you—directed towards you and only you. "C'mere." He patted his knee, gesturing for you to come closer, to join him in the small and cramped space—to which you obliged. After all, what were you going to do? Ignore him? This was Iwaizumi Hajime we were talking about, Seijoh's esteemed ace. In no world would you ever ignore his wants and needs.
Immediately, his grip found your waist. Holding it with force as he settled you into his lap—connecting your lips once more as a gasp escaped your throat, surprised by the aggression that he was showing, surprised by how much he seemed to want you. As you carried on, heated and heavy with lust and attraction, infatuation in the middle of your high school mathematics classroom—his lips began to trail down.
It was everything you ever wanted, him peppering showers of love off of your jaw and neck—softly sucking and nipping, leaving small bruises on the pinkness of your skin—marks that you'd have a hell of a time figuring out how to cover up after all this was over. "Oh my god." You moaned out, arms holding his head to your body, making sure that he wasn't going to let go anytime soon. "Keep going. Keep going, Iwa."
He paused, disobeying your demands and taking a quick glance up at your face. You were the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen, how you closed your eyes at his touch, mouth gaped open and gasping for air—it was a sight that he never wanted to get tired of, a sight that he'd been wanting to see for months now as you sat beside him in class. "Call me Hajime." He nodded, referencing the former title that you'd known him by. "You can call me Hajime, Y/N."
A light flush rose to your cheeks at the sound of your promotion, knowing that this meant that this wasn't going to be a one-time thing—that this could potentially be the start of a relationship, a long and lasting relationship between the two of you that could one day result in love. Love that you'd dreamed of since setting eyes on the brunette boy. "Then keep going, Hajime." Your eyes narrowed, challenging him to continue, challenging him to satisfy the needs you both were striving to complete.
With your wishes granted he cupped your face, hands covering the skin of your red blossoms and molding his mouth over yours for the third time that afternoon—biting the bottom of your lip and moving his tongue with your own. He was an exceptional kisser, that was for certain. There was no one in your past that even came close to how fantastic he'd already begun to make you feel—no past relationship that held a candle to the butterflies that grew in your stomach when he was around.
The butterflies that were the first of many, the first of millions on millions of jitters and nerves that would always arise with him. A relationship that was one of the books—all beginning in this small math classroom, with one question and one kiss that led to an infinite amount to follow. Your future was Hajime, and his future was you.

pairing: seijoh four x reader (platonic)
a/n: this sounded so much better in my head
Tumblr media
The fireflies light up and dance along the music of the cicadas. You are left to your own devices, admiring the night skies filled with blinking stars and the silver lining of the moon.
The faint voices of boys you’ve come to love becomes unheard and the night sky becomes a blur.
Suddenly you cannot breath. The thorns that wraps around your neck tightens and streaks of tears flow out like waterfalls. You’re crying.
The faint voices stop and you feel a pair of muscular arms wrapping around you.
“What’s wrong?” Mattsun’s calming voice pulls you back to reality. Makki’s calloused hands takes your in his. You look up to see them looking at you in concern.
You hastily wiped away the tears in your eyes in shame, which is in vain for your tears keeps on coming.
“It’s nothing.”
Oikawa’s disbelieving eyes looks straight at yours and you look away. “It’s not nothing.” He uses his hands to wipe away your tears, he cups your face in his hand.
“Tell us.” Iwaizumi encourages.
“It’s stupid,” you say, “sorry for ruining the mood.”
“Don’t say sorry and don’t say it’s stupid.” Oikawa sighs.
“If you don’t want to tell us it’s fine,” Mattsun says, “Just know that we’re always here kay?”
You grip Makki’s hand tighter, “It’s just, what if one day we won’t be friends anymore?”
Iwaizumi holds you tighter in his arms, “Then let if happen.”
Oikawa looks at him surprise, “Don’t sa-“
“But just know that we don’t have any intention like that.” Iwaizumi continues, “It’s won’t be easy to see each other as often sure but it’s not like we’ll stop keeping in touch”
“You won’t get rid of us that easily.” Mattsun grins, he sits beside you and puts an arm over your shoulder.
“I still need you to come home to, Y/n-chan,” Oikawa says, “I won’t go back to Japan otherwise.”
You nudge him playfully, “You’re such a sap.”
Makki tugs at your hands, “Don’t worry about it too much, we’ll always be here for each other.”
(“I can’t believe Makki can say such things” Oikawa says in the background.)
You nod and give them a small smile, “I treasure you guys so much.”
And you know that they treasure you as much.

Tumblr media
platonic seijoh (and others) x fem, short, reader
The sun shone brightly in the sky that were filled with large fluffy clouds. You breathed in the fresh air as you walked out of the store carrying a grocery bag that were filled with food and drinks. Squinting slightly, you spot Hajime stretching his legs as Tooru chatted his ear off. Near them, was Takahiro struggling to climb into Issei’s back, who looked very uninterested at the moment.
“I told you already, you’re too short to climb on my back,” Matsukawa rolls his eyes playfully, staying still as a rock.
“Shut up, at least I’m not as short Iwa-chan over there,” hearing Hanamaki’s statement, Iwaizumi stops his stretches.
“What was that?” He barks raising a brow at the two idiots. Takahiro scrambles to climb faster as a provoked Hajime approaches him. Deciding to save Takahiro, you sped up your pace.
“I’m back, I have snacks with me,” you smile handing them to Iwaizumi. In the corner of your eye, you spot Hanamaki breath out a breath of relief.
“You’re a life saver Y/n,” He whispers and you throw him a wink.
“What’d you get?”
“Oh, just the usual you know—“
“Did you get..”
“Yes I got your milk bread,” you say with a roll of your eyes, fishing out the milk bread you toss it over to Oikawa who gasps and stars to unpack the delicious food. You swore you saw shimmers in his eyes.
“Who’s driving next?” Mattsukawa asks, Hanamaki still on his back. Iwaizumi sighs and stretches his arms before answering.
“I’ll drive, Y/n’s next,” upon hearing this you stop in your tracks, eyebrows ruffling in confusion, along with the dreadful feeling stewing up in your stomach.
“What? Why?” You pout as Oikawa hands you a piece of his precious milk bread. Shoving the food in your mouth, you tilt your head.
“You’re the only one who hasn’t driven yet,” Issei shrugs, Takahiro jumping in surprise at the sudden movement.
“Watch it,” he grumbles, Matsukawa only smiles in response.
“I get the food though,” you try and reason but Hajime is quick to shut you down with his stern mom voice. Your shoulder slump, but your moodiness doesn’t last for a long time when Oikawa decides to blast music.
After a while of screaming your lungs out, spilling snacks, and wondering how Iwaizumi got his hair that spiky, your time to drive had finally arrived.
“There’s no getting out of this,” Hajime crosses his arms like a strict dad and you bite your lip from smiling to wide, it would ruin your chances of convincing him.
“But what if—”
“No.”
“Okay but like if I—”
“No.”
“Hajime! Just please—”
“No. End of discussion.”
Stunned at his choice of words, you drag yourself to the front seat. Hanamaki calls dibs on the front seat, promising to play all your favourite songs to keep your sanity in check.
Grabbing onto the wheel, you realize something. Your feet rest right below the pedals, and you find yourself having to sit up straighter just to get a view of the road. Biting your lip, you sigh and move to adjust your seat
“What’re you doing?” a voice calls out from behind your seat, shifting around you see a confused look planted Matsukawa’s face. Your mind quickly thinks of an excuse, too embarrassed to tell him truth about your problem. But alas, before you could spit out a word or even a sound out of your gaping mouth, Hanamaki had beaten you to the punch.
“She’s adjusting her seat, she can’t reach the steering wheel,” gasping, you let out a whine and slap him lightly on the shoulder as he continues to cackle at your flustered state.
“Hiro! You can’t just blurt that out!” You pout and slump onto your seat.
“Awh, is wittle Y/n angry because she can’t see above the dashboard?” Issei’s coos mockingly, making your glare at him through the rear view mirror.
“Is this why you didn’t wanna drive so bad? Because you’re so small?” Hajime sticks out his bottom lip and ruffles your hair, much like an older brother teasing their younger sibling, excepts it’s a grown man making fun of their short friend. You grumble underneath your breath as a chorus of laughs were aimed towards you.
“It’s okay Y/n-chan!” a peppy Oikawa smiles, “Iwa-chan over here isn’t too tall himself!” he chuckles before earning himself a punch in the shoulder from “Iwa-chan.”
“Yeah, yeah, just drive Y/n,” Iwaizumi rolls his eyes and you continue to adjust your seat.
“Damn, you really can’t reach the far?”
“Listen—” and before you knew it, they were back to teasing and poking at your patience.
“Ahh! Oikawa-san!” a cheery voice calls out, and you turn to your side to see a bubbly boy with orange hair running rapidly towards the car. For a moment you think to start the engine and speed out of there, but you spot other familiar faces.
“Oi Oi, what do we have here?” Your eyes meet catlike ones and sigh before lifting a hand to say hello to Kuroo. You smile at Bokuto, Akaashi, and Tsukishima that were trailing behind him.
“Is little Chibi-chan driving now?” He smiles and pats your head and for the third time that evening, one of the four boys behind you quickly yells an answer before you could even open your mouth.
“She’s too short to drive! Look at how much she had to adjust her seat!” Mattsukawa yells and stretches his legs in front to show how much space he had, and indeed there was a lot.
“Y/n! You haven’t grown since highschool!” a certain grey haired owl gasps dramatically, slapping his hands onto his cheeks for effect. Akaashi places a warning hand on Bokuto and Tsukishima hides a smirk.
“You’re shorter than me!” Hinata yells for the entire world to here, copying Bokuto’s actions with wide eyes. At this point you’re tired and the only thing you manage to do was roll your eyes once more.
“Aww, that’s okay shrimp!” Kuroo giggles (yes he giggles, you can fight me on that) and leans down taking your cheek in his thumb and index finger, pinching it slightly.
“Kuroo! You’re supposed to be the one defending me!” You pout swatting his hand away.
“Since when,” he cocks a brow, grinning.
“Since...since that one time in the training camp you said I wasn’t that short!” Pointing a finger at him.
“That was because you were standing next to Yachi,” he snorts.
“And even Yachi grew a little,” Tsukishima smirks, joining in on the fun. You slump back onto your seat and lean on the palm of your hand, dejected.
“If it helps Y/n-san! I’m not that tall either!” Hinata jumps up and down whilst waving a hand in order to get your attention.
“Yeah! And Iwa-chan isn’t either! See? You’re not alone in this Y/n!” Hanamaki places a “comforting” hand on your shoulder as Hajime raises a brow.
For the rest of the day, you hung out with the boys, endured through their teasing comments about your height. It wasn’t so bad, especially when you had Hajime and Shoyo as your personal bodyguards, although they made the occasional short jokes as well, they were pretty decent.
But alas, the day had come to an end. You all decided to book the same hotel together because nothing could possibly go wrong, nope, not one thing.
“Tsukishima give me back my phone!” You reach up as far as you could on our top toes, not wanting to jump since that would cause a disturbance to the people below you.
“Don’t worry Y/n! I’ll get it for you!” Hinata says and starts running towards Kei who was dangling your phone right above your hands.
Just before Hinata could jump, Bokuto tackles him onto the bed, then proceeds to play wrestle with him.
“My hero,” you sigh and look back at Tsukishima who had a shit eating grin plastered on his face.
“It’s right here, just come get it,” He smiles. You sigh and memories from this morning went through your head. Although these boys could be a pain in the ass, tease you relentlessly about your short stature, take your belongings and proceed to dangle them above you, you loved all of them and absolutely nothing could change that.
“Help! Iwa-chan’s chasing me!” A distressed Oikawa enters into the hotel room along with a feral Hajime closing in on him. Hanamaki record the whole thing as Mattsukawa is howling in laughter. Yes, nothing could change your love for these boys.

Title. We Are Your First, Last, & Only Line of Defense Against This World of Scum
Pairing. Seijoh 3rd Years x Platonic!Reader
Summary. In which growing up is hard, but it’s a lot less harder if you’re doing it with the bestest friends you could ever ask for in the world (and Oikawa Toruu). Or; a journey through the friendship of the third years of Seijoh’s volleyball club.
Warnings. Manga spoilers up to chapter 395. Lots of cursings and mentions of anxieties about growing up. Kind of incoherent and mostly ramblings + not much dialogue, but I’ve been enjoying writing these types of things. Full disclosure: this is completely based on that official art of them at a karaoke bar. Title is from Men in Black by Will Smith.
Oikawa Toruu was 6 years old when he was crying about some kid stealing his pudding cup. And Iwaizumi Hajime was 6 years old when he dreamt of becoming a cop once he grew up, so he sought to bring justice for Oikawa’s pudding cup. L/N Y/N, also 6 years old, had declared that she would marry Hajime once she was old enough to, so she thought it was her job as his future bride to be his partner in solving this crime. (Oikawa Toruu could care less, he just wanted his pudding cup back).
Long story short, Iwaizumi Hajime ended up scuffling with said kid after he called him “stupid porcupine head” and Y/N jumped in the fray to save her future groom, while Oikawa jumped in to reclaim his pudding cup. And that was just the start of their long series of getting into trouble together.
When Oikawa Toruu was 14 years old and in his last year of junior high, the ugly green monster had reared its head and caused hostility between him and a certain kouhai. Y/N, always the kind one, had called him out on his bullshit and told him to get his act together. Oikawa fired back and called her out on her “pathetic crush on Iwa-chan,” effectively setting off the cold war between them that lasted all of summer. Iwaizume recalls having to go back and forth between the two because they refused to be in the same room together.
By the time they were 15 years old and entering highschool, the two ended up being in the same class. Oikawa pretended not to know her and hung out with “Makki” from his volleyball team. Y/N tried branching out and making friends with the other girls in her class for once, but she was shunned out for being close to the Oikawa Toruu back in middle school.
Their three months of silent treatment ended on the second week of the new school year, when Oikawa was enraged by the nasty rumors spreading about his childhood friend. Some guy Y/N rejected during the third day of school had spread rumors that she was involved in a reverse harem with Oikawa and Iwaizumi and that he didn’t bother going out with her because she was “too easy.”
Oikawa, 15 years old, threw the first punch. Iwaizumi, also 15 years old, held back his friend until Oikawa shouted out, “This bastard’s running around calling Y/N-chan a whor-” Oikawa didn’t need to finish because by then Iwaizumi had thrown the second punch. Matsukawa Issei and Hanamaki Takahiro, both 15 years old, tried holding back their two new volleyball teammates.
And that’s how Y/N and Oikawa tearfully made up, and the two, “Mattsun” and “Makki”, as Oikawa affectionately named them, joined their little friend group. Y/N ended up joining the volleyball club as a manager per Oikawa’s request (command) and finally everything was back to normal, with everyone forgetting about the “cold war” between Oikawa and Y/N.
It didn’t take long for Hanamaki and Matsukawa to fit into the group because anyone that could tolerate Oikawa deserves a reward (and that reward is the friendship they’ve built over the years, but none of them actually liked to get sappy).
By the time the five friends were 16 year olds in their second year of highschool, Oikawa has made a name for himself as the great setter of the Seijoh volleyball team. The other three were close behind in terms of popularity, but none were quite as open with it as Oikawa was. Y/N, on the other hand, did not get to enjoy the joys of the glory brought by the four players. She made heads turn, but the sight of four glowering boys right behind her made them turn back.
But there were a few exceptions.
Y/N was 16 years old and in second year of highschool when she got her first boyfriend. It wasn’t Oikawa, or Iwaizumi, or Hanamaki, or Matsukawa, no, it was a fellow second year in the same class as her (she was lucky enough not to be put in the same class as any of her idiot friends that year).
All five of them have forgotten his name now, but when they do talk about him every now and then, he was given the affectionate nickname, “Pighead.” Because two months into their relationship, Pighead had the nerve to demand Y/N to completely cut off her four friends.
Because she was young and naive and under the illusion of puppy love, Y/N was thrown into a dilemma. She mulled over it for weeks, lost sleep over whether or not she should comply, until Iwaizumi snapped her out of it and made her spill what was bothering her.
Once the four boys found out they offered to wipe Pighead off the face of Earth, but Y/N just cried and apologized for even just thinking about cutting off her amazing friends. They had a sleepover that night and Y/N still remembers it as one of her best childhood memories.
(Because of that one incident Y/N had decided to completely cut off immature boys from her highschool days).
Come their third year of highschool the five were as close as ever (and Oikawa, regrettably, much more annoying). They’ve built up seemingly unbreakable bonds that would last a lifetime, and Y/N was glad that she was able to take part in it. Having the four boys throughout her teenage years certainly was enjoyable, and she wouldn’t trade the memories and years of friendship they’ve attained for anything in the world. As long as she had the four of them (even Oikawa), she believed she could face off anything and anyone in the world.
When Y/N began worrying about college and growing up, they were there to help cheer her up. When the boys lost to Karasuno in the Prefectural Qualifiers, Y/N was there to cheer them up. She still remembers the tearful afternoon spent in the gym they’d spent three years of their lives in. And despite not being as hurt as the boys were after losing, Y/N had found herself shedding a few tears of her own. As they closed the gym doors one final time, they’ve also closed the doors to their childhood.
Teenage years go by, and as quick as they’ve entered highschool they found themselves graduating. Growing up. Taking the next step into adulthood. The four boys she came to love as her found family were now four men, and they’ve done well growing up.
And just like that tearful goodbye at the Seijoh volleyball club gym, Y/N finds herself preparing for another one. All five of them are adults now. Iwaizumi is going off to California to study in an American university, Oikawa’s going to Argentina to play volleyball, and Hanamaki and Matsukawa are moving to Tokyo together to study in a university. For once in her life, Y/N finds that she’ll be all alone in Miyagi, while her friends take the next few steps to growing up.
The five of them find themselves in Hanamaki’s childhood bedroom, for one last weekend sleepover before everything changes. They’ve strewn out blankets and pillow on the floor, and are laying down in a circular formation. They’ve been in this bedroom hundreds of times, in this same exact position, but now it’s completely different.
All his posters of celebrities are taken down and wrapped neatly on a pile sitting on his desk. His clutter of figurines and plushies collected over the years are in boxes, ready to move with their owner. His closet is empty, the clothes inside stuffed into their own labeled boxes. And his volleyball jersey that’s usually hung by the door is no longer there, no doubt already packed somewhere safe. Y/N tries not to dwell on the somberness of it all, and instead forces a laugh when Matsukawa makes a joke.
Y/N realizes she messed up when four pairs of eyes turn to look at her. “I know I’m a riot, but that joke wasn’t even that funny. I’ll admit to that.” Matsukawa speaks up.
“What’s on your mind?” Iwaizumi finally asks. His arms are behind his head and he’s staring up at the ceiling, no doubt lost in his own train of thoughts.
Y/N contemplates if she should ruin the peaceful vibes surrounding their group. They’ve already cried tons after losing to Karasuno, so do they even have any tears left for a goodbye? Y/N looks to her left and realizes all their attention focused on her, waiting for her to answer Iwaizumi’s question.
“Nothing. Just that maybe this’ll be our last weekend together.” She sighs, letting her emotions get the best of her. “We’re all going our own separate ways, who knows what could happen, y’know?”
It’s Oikawa that reacts first, but that’s no surprise since he’s Oikawa. “Y/N-chan! Are you trying to say you’re gonna miss me?” He asks with comical tears in his eyes. Y/N immediately regrets speaking up.
“I think I might miss you the least.” Oikawa feigns hurt at the comment, but he knows his friend better than anybody. ‘I’ll miss you more than you could even imagine.’ Is what she’s trying to say.
“Oi. No more crying.” Hanamaki finally says something. He can see the tears forming at Oikawa’s eyes, and a few that already shed from Y/N’s, before he feels the familiar burning sensation in his throat. “Damn it.”
“Nothing’s gonna change. We’ll all keep in touch, plain and simple.” Matsukawa announces, almost as if he was sure of it. “And if anyone,” Iwaizumi adds, looking directly at Oikawa, “decides to be a dick and try to cut us off, we’ll all personally fly out to South America to kick his ass.” A chorus of ‘yes’ sounded out as Oikawa gasps at his friends’ reactions.
“Why does it always get violent with you, Iwa-chan?!” He whines like a child, causing an outburst of laughter from the other four.
Hanamaki notices Y/N staring off into space again before he sighs, placing an affectationate hand on her head. “Relax, loser. It’s not like we’re gonna totally forget Miyagi. If anything me and Issei are gonna come back home more than you think. You’ll get tired of us eventually.”
Y/N wipes a few stray tears and nods, finally showing a genuine smile. “I’ll kill all of you if you even try to forget about Miyagi.”
“Impossible.” Iwaizumi says with a gentle smile on his lips.
-
The next morning the five friends make their way to Narita Airport, where Oikawa’s flying off to Argentina to become a better player. Their eyes are bloodshot red from staying up all night crying and reminiscing old memories together.
The walk from the parking lot to the boarding gate is quiet, until Oikawa breaks the awkward air between them. “When I get back, I’ll wipe the court with Tobio-chan.”
“You’re still not over that? Grow up.” Y/N glares, suddenly remembering their childish fight during their last year of junior high. Hanamaki laughs first, followed by Matsukawa, and finally Iwaizumi. The people around them stare strangely as five teens laugh with tears streaming down their eyes.
“Try not to miss me too much, ‘k, Y/N-chan?” Oikawa winks, just barely dodging the fist swung at him. A boarding call for Oikawa’s flight fills the airport, and they finally remember why they’re there in the first place.
“I’ll miss you guys.” He finally says seriously, tears freely falling down his face. Y/N cracks first, flinging herself to his awaiting arms and cries as she realizes this is his goodbye. Hanamaki, Matsukawa, and Iwaizumi follow, forming a group hug in the middle of Narita Airport.
Oikawa pulls away, dragging a sleeve to wipe away his tears. He opens his mouth to say one final goodbye, but is interrupted by a plethora of voices overlapping each other,
“Try not to make your teammates hate you too much. Make some friends.”
“Don’t even think about calling me at midnight about your stupid problems.”
“If you come crying to me about your knee, I’m just gonna say I told you so.”
“Once you get back, I’ll be sure to give you hell.”
“Oi, what kind of curse are you all placing on me?!” Oikawa whines, the somber atmosphere replaced by their usual energetic one.
With one last ‘goodbye,’ Oikawa strides towards the airport gates, and away from the ones he’s grown to love over the years. He looks over his shoulders, taking a mental picture of all four of his closest friends waving and giving him nods of encouragement so that he’d never forget what he’ll always have back home.
The world can throw anything it wants at them, but as long as they had each other, nothing’s ever too scary or too tough.
A/N. Thank you for reading this totally self-indulgent fic with my fav third years! A Miya twins version of this fic is in the works! Also, I’m thinking of making a mini series off of this oneshot where you chose a route with one of the boys (romantically). Let me know if you guys would also be interested in that. - chuu

~how the Seijoh four met Y/n~ (Oikawa’s part)(*^U^)人(≧V≦*)/
warning: mistakes bby. I just wrote, didn’t proofread or anything lol
a/n: This Y/n goes with my series I’m doing called As Per Usual. It’s basically a slice of life kind of series where you are besties with Oikawa, Hanamaki, Iwaizumi, and Matsukawa. Here is the ✨masterlist ✨for the series to get more context. Hope you enjoy~
Oikawa
-he is actually the last person to meet you from the whole group. Lol
 ♪\(*^▽^*)/\(*^▽^*)/
-And honestly the first meeting between you and Oikawa…Well it wasn’t like the others…
-He thought you were another one of his fans. BUT HE WAS SO WRONG.
- see, you were really trying to be nice to him but he made that v difficult. lmao
-you didn’t know anything about him, but you remembered that he was one of Hanamaki’s friends and you wanted to finally introduce yourself and you thought this was the perfect opportunity bc he was standing right there~
-So this is where it all begins! you were at a bakery trying to pick up some snacks for you and your seatmate that sits in front of you. and you happened to notice Oikawa was there browsing as well.
-At first you didn’t know if that was really him and you kept trying to sneakily get closer to see if it really was Oikawa and not some random dude that looks like him. Basically, you went into spy mode~
- And when you were thinking that you weren’t being noticeable. you were wrong bestie
-Meanwhile, Oikawa noticed a long time ago. Probably the first time you did a double take, he noticed you.  Lol he honestly thought it was kind of cute.
-So, he did you a favor (well he thought he was) and walked up to you.
-On your mind, you thought,. “Is he walking up to me?” “Why is he smiling at me? “Oh, god he really is walking up to me...”
-In the inside you were freaking out, you weren’t completely ready. You weren’t even sure if it really was him at first. But then soon you realized that you were worried for no reason.
- “Hi, Oikawa-senpai. I’m-
- “A fan. I know.”
-You deadpanned but Oikawa didn’t seem to notice. Does he think I’m a fan…. What kind of guy is this? you thought.
-Before you can say anything else, “I have noticed that you were looking and don’t worry. You could always come up to me.”
- “Uhh,” (°ロ°)☝ (°-°)☝
-”Speechless? I know. So-
-You just walked away and Oikawa was slightly offended.
- “Wait, wait. Why are you walking away?”
- “They were right…” You said to yourself and slumped but continued putting random bread and pastries onto your tray.
- “Wait. So you’re not a fan?”
“Why would I be?” Oikawa was clearly offended, but also felt refreshed weirdly enough. But it got worse for Oikawa,  you continued, “I don’t know you. Why would I be a fan? You’re not famous or anything.”
-“But you know my name and you were staring and giving me heart eyes.”
- “I–Really? Well, there wasn’t really much to look at.”
- “Rude!”
-The next thing you knew you were bickering with Oikawa. This was the first time meeting this guy and you were now bickering with him. Talk about first impressions. ᇂ_ᇂ
- “Wait, I think I know who you are?”
- “Who do you think I am then? Huh?” You said mockingly.
- “You’re that first year, aren’t you? The one that got in trouble the first week of the term. Shouldn’t you be respecting your senpai’s after all that?”
- You rolled your eyes at the thought of all that. (to get more context you should read this!)
“Sure I am. But what kind of senpai picks a fight with a kohai.” You did get him there.
Oikawa knowing you’re right...( ゚,_ゝ゚)
- After the bickering continued, you both were unfortunately kicked out of the bakery for being too loud.
-And so now you and Oikawa were both breadless and annoyed. You both went your separate ways after that.
-Oikawa can’t believe the audacity you had, and to think he thought you were a fan…
-You were going to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but you should have listened to Hanamaki and the others…
-So Monday came along and you were minding your business, you were actually pretty happy bc the seatmate that you were going to give snacks to,  had extra snacks and shared them with you. bless their heart (●´ω`●)
-So you told them that you were going to the vending machines and get drinks and that’s when you saw Hanamaki!
-You started walking over to him with a smile on your face. But that smile left when Hanamaki moved to the side and he was talking to Oikawa.
-It was too late for you to turn around. Your face was like this (⊙︿⊙✿) until Hanamaki spotted you and called you over and your face went to this (✿◠‿◠)
- SO you walked over and Oikawa noticed that it was you and huffed in response.
- Hanamaki just looked at the two of you.
- “I was going to introduce the two of you, but I sense you both know each other already...”
-  “That’s the brat that I was talking about!”
- “Brat? At least I’m not so narcissistic to think that anyone that gives them eye contact is a fan.”
- AND BEFORE YOU KNEW IT THE TWO OF YOU WERE BICKERING AND ALL HANAMAKI WAS THINKING was how?
- Hanamaki just stood there by the sideline, mumbling to himself. “Y/n, this Oikawa. Oikawa, this is Y/n my Kohai I mention to you.”
-Hanamaki was too tired to even stop all of  this so he just walked away.
-and the both of you didn’t realize that he was gone.
-Legend says that the two of you are still there by the vending machines bickering… LMAO
---
end notes~
- Oikawa and Y/n are actually pretty close even though they bicker and fight each other a lot. The change of leaf all started with a rainy day and a bowl of ramen but that is a story for another day~
-People wouldn’t even think that the both of them get into each other’s nerves, by how close the two of you are. There was even a moment where Hanamaki was a little jealous by how close you two got.
-Oikawa thinks of Y/n as refreshing and kinda scary once they got to know each other and got more comfortable with each other. But a good kind of scary, not the toxic kind of scary. Like wow I feel safe, but also v intimidated, but yas they are my ride or die. lmao.
-Oikawa doesn’t realize this until after he graduates and has moved to Argentina--but he has feeling for you but doesn’t do anything about it. (I KNOW I SAID THIS SERIES IS MOSTLY PLATONIC BUT SOMETIMES FRIENDS HAVE FEELINGS FOR THEIR FRIENDS LMAO but also this is really angst if I got more into detail about this moment.)

As Per Usual. ✨Masterlist.✨
--
“Okay but why?” You elongate the y, as you rubbed your eyes. You were faced with four very active boys, if you say so yourself, way too active and way too early in the morning. You weren't expecting to see them.
Didn’t they practice in the morning? Why aren't they at morning practice and why am I awake? You were thinking that at the moment.
“Y/n-Chan, geez. That’s your first reaction when seeing your friends. Rude. And to think we are here for you." Oikawa huffs and invites himself in.
“Oh yeah. Come on in." You said sarcastically. “Why are you guys in regular uniform? I thought you guys would have morning practice.”
“Practice got canceled this morning, coach had some matters to tend to.” Iwaizumi walks in next giving you a small nod and smile.
“We bring breakfast!” Hanamaki says when he passes by you.
“Well, I guess that makes things better.” You yawned.
“Nice PJs,” Matsukawa says teasingly as he pokes your cheek and follows the other boys into your home.
As you closed the door, you sighed.
"I'll be right back. I'm going to get ready. You guys know where everything is.” Then you walked back to your room. In your room, you glanced over at your bed. You can just tuck yourself back in and sleep a little more. But they were in your kitchen. You know no peace when it comes to your best friends. You sighed and decided that just getting ready was your only option.
After putting on your school uniform, you went down to the kitchen.
“Good morning.” You wrap your arms around Hanamaki and place your head on his. You stayed like that for a while before you let go and went to Matsukawa next. Greeting him also with a hug.
“Oh nice of you to show up when we are all done cooking everything.” Oikawa huffed. You made your way to Iwaizumi and hugged him.
“You're welcome.” You teasingly smile at Oikawa, sitting next to him.
“And I don’t even get a hug either.” Oikawa keeps this dramatic act ongoing. You roll your eyes and look over to your friends, they are shaking their heads as well.
“Just eat your pancakes, loser-kawa,” Iwa tells Oikawa while preparing his pancakes.
Upon looking over the table, many items caught your attention. The pancakes in the middle, however, were the main attraction. Among other things, there were toppings, syrups, and different fruits. It wasn't a small breakfast.
You were starting to feel a little suspicious. They rarely have a morning practice off, when they usually have Mondays off.  You looked at them trying to figure out what was happening but the boys were just too occupied by their pancakes. Therefore, you decided to busy yourself too and make your pancakes.
Going with a stack of three pancakes, strawberries, whipped cream, powdered sugar, with condensed milk and syrup. (you can choice whatever kind lol this is just what I would pick.)
As you took your first bite, you moaned. Your taste buds are flooded with sweetness. As much as you want to enjoy this breakfast. You knew something was up. You took a few more bites, then sat up straighter in your chair.
“Okay, I give. What's the deal with this?” You finally say. “As much as I’m enjoying it. I believe something is happening here.”
The boys all looked at each other silently, even surprisingly Oikawa didn’t say anything right at the bat.
“What is it? Something bad? Is one of you dying?” You continued. “Am I dying?” You gave them a dramatic shocked face and your hands on your heart.
“No one is dying,” Iwa said, shaking his head. “God, you are almost as bad as Oikawa.”
You gasped, visually offended. You and Oikawa looked at each other and started bittering. Iwa gets annoyed and yells at you and Oikawa.
“Sorry…Iwa.” You tried innocently, making Iwa cave and forgiving you right away. Oikawa on the other hand got a slap to the back of the head and was mumbling something about Iwa being a brute.
“Okay, we should just get straight to the point.” Matsukawa looked at everyone.
“Is it bad? You guys are making me feel a little anxious. I feel like I’m getting confronted with something.” You tell them.
They all looked at each other again. You waited for them to finally answer.
“Y/n! Please be our manager!” They all finally said.
Oh.
“Yeah... no.” You went back to your pancakes.
“Oh come on!” Hanamaki says, “It’s our last year and we are going to be busy and we want you to be part of it.”
“You know how to play and you will be a big help with the second years and first years,” Iwa speaks up. “And a big help with us third years too.”
Looking up from your pancakes, you took another forkful into your mouth. It has crossed your mind, the role of their manager. To be honest, you had already considered it. However, there was always one thing that stopped you.
You didn’t want to fail them.
“Plus…” Matsukawa starts speaking, “You get to see me a lot more if you become our manager.” He winked at you.
You chuckled, “Oooh, that does sound nice, but you can’t seduce me, Matsu, you flirt.”
“I’m only a flirt for you,” Matsukawa said cheesily. “And if you are a manager, it will be easier for me to do it all that time.”
“Okay, enough of that! Maybe, I don’t want Y/n to be our manager if I have to experience that all the time.” Hanamaki cringing. “It’s like you were flirting with my sibling.”
“Oh, Maki, don’t be jealous. I will still have time to flirt with you..” Matsu said smoothly. Maki and Matsu started joking with each other. You started laughing at their banter, trying not to choke on your food.
Iwa shook his head and sighed.
“The decision is yours, but please give it some thought. Your help will be greatly appreciated. But also, since you are a year younger, we hope to spend more time with you if you are our manager."
“Fine. I will think about it. But don’t get your hopes up.” You took another bite of your pancakes, looking slightly away.
Honestly, you would be their manager, but you had a deep fear that you wouldn’t do your best. Various reasons made you anxious but it is their last year that made you feel weird. Then again, you wouldn't know unless you tried. In the meantime, everyone went back to eating their breakfast as you continued to ponder the matter.
Before leaving to go to school, you all finished your breakfast and cleaned up. It wasn't too far to walk to school. You were able to sleep a bit longer since you weren't too far from school, and you didn't have to worry about missing the train. With that, it made your house the main place to hang out.
Iwa, Maki, and Matsu were walking slightly ahead of you and Oikawa.
Side by side you both walked silently.
“You've been quiet, Mr. captain.” You hooked your arm with Oikawa’s arm. He looks at you. “Not like I’m complaining… But what are you thinking?”
Oikawa gives you a smirk. “You know what I’m going to say.”
You clicked your tongue and placed your head on his shoulder. “ Oh come on. I said I will think about it.”
“Sure, sure, sure.~” Oikawa teasingly says. You lift your head from his shoulder and unhook your arm from his.
“Tooru… We talked about this. You know why…”
“And like I said you will do fine. Plus, you get to spend more time with your senpai, your captain.” Oikawa puts his arm around your shoulders.
“Oh god, maybe I don’t want to be your manager!” You groaned.
Oikawa pulls you closer to him and laughs. You both finally made it to campus. Going your separate ways you had time to think alone. To really think about it. So in your thoughts, it was already time for school to end. You walked over to the gym, standing by the door watching the boys practice.
Spending more time with them and going to away games would be fun. You thought.
“Fine.” You whispered to yourself.
You walked over to the coaches and the next thing you knew you were the manager of Aoba Johsai High boy’s volleyball club.

~end notes~
-you and Oikawa are actually really close. even thought you both bicker with each other the most. Both of you have a soft spot for each other. lol
-Hanamaki and you are childhood friends that ended up going to the same high school.
-Matsukawa and you flirt with each other a lot but it really doesn’t go anywhere. It’s mostly to annoy Hanamaki lol

As Per Usual Masterlist~
a/n: hello! (゚ヮ゚) This is a series called As Per Usual. It’s a little slice of life of being friends with the Seijoh Four! There really is not going to be a set story timeline it’s mostly just random events. I will differentiate which year things happen in.  There will be mentions of other characters, but the main focus will be on Oikawa, Matsukawa, Hanamaki, and Iwaizumi. This is also mostly platonic when it comes to them and y/n but like platonic love is also great as well. (but for some you can squint and it can be not so platonic lol)  updating will be irregular for the time being.
