When the attacks first started, they were triggered by a lot of different things, but the worst was loud noises. Walking around the city there’s always horns and sirens and yelling, and it was hard. My therapist suggested headphones, and it worked surprisingly well. It’s weird because I just blare loud music, but it’s different for some reason. It drowns out everything else and it just…helps.

Dawn: There weren’t any loud noises where we were climbing. Phoenix: I know. It just helps quiet the, uh, I don’t know. I’m not sure how to explain it. I guess it’s just become a comfort thing over time. Dawn: Yeah, that makes sense.

Phoenix: Thank you, by the way, for helping me through it. Dawn: You’re welcome.

Phoenix: And thanks for coming out with me tonight. Dawn: Aw thanks for inviting me. But I’m curious. Phoenix: Hm? Dawn: I’m curious if this is a date? I assumed not at first, but it’s kind of starting to feel like one. Phoenix: It is, isn’t it? Well, I guess it depends. Dawn: On what? Phoenix: Do you want to go on a date with me? Dawn: [blushing] Yes, I do.

Phoenix: It’s a date then, but maybe next time I can do better than an empty festival and digging through trash. Dawn: You mean it gets better than this? hello!! no pressure to answer this but i was wondering do you have any recommendations for books, specifically books that made you feel things very deeply? i know that's vague and weird but like i also love the goblin emperor/baru cormorant/similar books as you and i was wondering if you had any faves you'd like to share :) i am looking for a book that will put me in agony in a good way lol

okay so I am a Big Emotional Dummy so everything makes me feel very deeply, whether or not it's actually any good. So I'll try to keep it to recs that I felt alot while reading, after reading, and I think are actually good.

Also idk if you want specific genres or sticking to fiction, so I'm just gonna throw a whole whack of things at you, hope that's ok!!! I'll also try to avoid super popular recs (like trc or ursula k le guin) not because i love them less, just because you've probably already heard of them?

Hands of the Emperor - Victoria Goddard - probably my current fave book and protag, read it twice in less than a year despite it being like 1200 pages, if i loved it less i could talk about it more, and without crying. maybe it's niche and imperfect, but to ME? book of all time

The Queen's Thief - Megan Whalen Turner - fave book series for more than a decade, makes me experience shrimp emotions that nothing else will ever be able to replicate

Piranesi - Susanna Clarke - how did a portal fantasy meets psychological horror become actually the most existentially comforting book in the world

Tuyo - Rachel Neumeier - technically a series, with 3 main novels and other novels and novellas about other characters (which i enjoyed less but still), but def start with tuyo. I fully went in expecting to not like it At All and was blown away???? I wept. I still weep. I can't explain why I love it without spoilers but it's technically a fantasy war story and yet is almost entirely character driven

Wind, Sand, and Stars - Antione de Saint-Exupery -reading this rn and technically it's billed as a memoir and adventure novel but actually its an existential meditation on the nature of human interaction and the soul and definitely comes from the same core as The Little Prince

If you HAVENT read the cemeteries of amalo/thara celehar spinoff of the goblin emperor PLEASE do, in many ways i love them even more than tge bc thara is up there with kip mdang in terms of characters i cant talk about without crying because it's too personal

The Sparrow Duology - Mary Doria Russell - PLEASE check the trigger warnings, unlike most of the recs on this list, this falls way more to the side of Baru in terms of dark content, but also it's maybe the closest I've ever come to being at peace

I'm definitely missing things, but these are all the books that have made me want to chew drywall in the last 2 years. I've also linked my goodreads here with the caveat that my ratings skew high because i am very much a 'i didnt say it was good, i said i enjoyed it/was entertained' type person. also i have read a lot of trash YA. oops. like yes some of it is real bad but also some of it makes me Feel Some Things even (or especially??) when it's real bad.

Batman looks up at the abomination adorning the sky. It’s a large disc-shaped . . . thing hovering in space. Not a spaceship from another planet, he confirmed, but a weird extraterrestrial structure that is currently causing an international panic. 

He turns on his comms, entering the Hall of Justice. “Hal, do you have a vision?” 

“Looks like it’s solid through and through,” Green Lantern replied. “It’s not a disc, more like a bit dome shaped. Oh, and it’s red all over with black spots.”

“. . . What?”

“Batman.” Wonder Woman walks in along with other League members. “I asked Kal to fetch the person who can solve this for us. They should be here any minute now.” 

Everyone mutters and whispers restlessly. It’s not like they are wholly unprepared for any kind of emergency, but a sudden alien invasion is the last thing they need in their hands at the moment. Batman focuses on examining the object through the computer, looking out for anything else of note. 

Then, Superman flies in, carrying a bundle wrapped around in his cape. 

Said bundle is actually a sleepy girl, still clad in her pajamas and mussed hair. 

“Marinette?” Batman chokes out. 

Wonder Woman throws a glare at Superman for bringing the guardian in her civilian form. 

Marinette yawns, rubs her eye, and scans the room briefly. “Oh, hi.” 

Wonder Woman’s smile is strained as she gestures to the strange object on the monitor. “Marinette, dear, there’s an emergency that we think you can help us with.” 

Marinette barely spares it a glance. “Huh. Tikki’s got the munchies again.” 

Meanwhile, Batman turns to his fellow members. “You knew?” 

Superman responds with wide eyes. “You found out?”

“It wasn’t their secret to tell, Dad,” Marinette butts in, yawning again. “They did the right thing.”

“By keeping this from me and my entire family?” 

She scowls. “By giving me a chance to deal with the identity thing by myself.” She stretches her arm. “Also, can I deal with that big cookie later? I want to sleep.” 

Flash snorts softly. Aquaman makes a somewhat amused sound. Wonder Woman raises her eyebrows. “This . . . it’s showing signs of crashing onto Earth, Marinette. We need to remove it as soon as possible.” 

The young heroine whines a little as she looks at the monitor again. Her eyes narrow. “Wait a minute . . .” 

In a second, Marinette is in front of the computer, pushing Batman away from the buttons. While Batman thinks that she’s working on solving the problem, she calls a familiar number instead and yells at the screen in front of the League. 

“Damian Al Ghul Wayne!” Marinette screeches. “What have you done?” 

“The kwamis are all safe, thank you very much,” Damian answers, face blase. “They are here, but you can’t see them.” 

“Oh? Care to explain the giant cookie in space?” Marinette crosses her arms. Batman wants to massage his temple. 

“It is not my doing.” 

“And what have you fed Tikki this past hour?” 

“I had Pennyworth make some ma’amoul and I gave her some as a treat.” 

“She was obsessed over it, wasn't she?” Marinette put a palm to her face. 

“She loved it and—” 

“Where is she now?” 

Damian pauses. “. . . She’s here. With me.” 

Marinette points an accusatory finger. “Liar! I’ll make Dad ground you.” 

“I was only granting her cravings and—” Damian turns to the side. “Ziggy! Trixx! Give the remote back!”

“Tikki’s. Munchies. Were. Underlined and Highlighted. On. The. List!” 

In a fit of rage, Marinette hangs up, calls her transformation with the ring and angrily chews on a colored macaron. The others watch silently, too afraid or shocked to speak up. 

She faces her father. “Please lecture your son.” 

With that, she says a phrase to summon the power up and blasts off into space. The League watches her fly to the gigantic ma’amoul, catacylsming it with one touch and gliding back to Earth. Not even a minute has passed when she returns. 

Marinette yawns for the umpteenth time. “Can I go nap now?”

Because I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression, I just want to make a tiny little post to clarify that the fact that you're not seeing any posts about Chris's relationship on my blog is not because I disapprove of that relationship. Not that it matters what I think lol, I'm just a silly fan blog, but still, some of my thoughts under the cut for those interested.

I have various reasons for not posting about it on this blog (the same ones I have for not posting about Sebastian’s relationship), but they've got nothing to do with me disapproving of anything. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I'm not telling anyone what to think or feel, and you're free to privately disagree, but these are my personal thoughts on the matter.

I think she is a grown woman who can make her own decisions, and I believe infantalising her doesn't help anyone tbh. Moreover, Chris is not a predator like some celebrities are (you know the ones). I'm sure he wasn't out there looking for 25 year-olds to date; he was single for years, so if he'd wanted to serial date younger women, he could have, and he didn't. Sometimes you just meet someone and click with them regardless of circumstances or age (speaking from experience here, so it'd be hypocritical of me to disapprove) and that's ok, and also nobody's business but theirs. I know a number of very healthy, loving relationships with an age gap irl, and as long as no one is being taken advantage of or coerced into anything, there is no problem whatsoever imo. And knowing Chris, we don't have to worry about any of that (and again, she is a grown woman, and Chris is not a predatory serial 25 year-old dater).

So, no judgement from me, just for the record. Again, everyone is free to feel how they feel, and I'm not trying to tell anyone else how they should feel, but this is where I stand. While I won't be posting about either of the boys' relationships on this blog for the foreseeable future, I do hope they're very happy ♥️
