btw this is probably one of the most insane and telling scenes in regards to stewy nd kendall. like the stewy-marcia interaction first off. the way it’s so clearly paralleling kenstewy with logan and marcia. stewy and marcia literally watch their respective persons in silence. also important to note that stewy was one of the first ppl to greet logan when he arrived probably bc he knew that one of the first things logan was going to do was approach kendall and he wanted to get in there first to gauge the situation + logan. but stewy’s concern for kendall in regards to what could happen when he’s in close proximity to logan is so clear and almost synonymous with marcia’s own concern/love for logan at this point. like it seems intentional that they were shown to be like. logan and kendall’s respective partners here

i really have never seen anything quite like the power of fandom continuing to show up and make excuses for absolute pos male characters because they’re objectively ~~attractive.
ohhhhh poor nick goode !! so pressured by his family’s expectations !!! if you read between the lines deep down he obviously still loved ziggy !!!
like…. my god. i shipped them too in 1978, but that was before we found out that he and his entire family knowingly lived off a deal their ancestor made that continuously sacrificed people year after year from the “wrong side of town”, all in the name of keeping sunnyvale the quintessential seat of wealth and prosperity.
that abundance was built off the literal blood sacrifice of people who unwillingly lost their lives all because the greed of one bloodline. because solomon goode wanted more.
nick was 110% content to let things continue on as they were- dooming hundreds of ordinary citizens to lifetimes of bad luck and misery and tragedy, all so his own family could selfishly continue to prosper like they had for years. ziggy probably lived for years with what had happened at camp nightwing weighing on her. the paranoia, the drinking, the obsessiveness- all signs of major PTSD. you don’t let someone you love live like that. ziggy saw her sister die in front of her, sacrificing herself because cindy thought she could stop the curse and give her sister a good life- a life of freedom from the “curse” they all believed sara fier put on shadyside. he brought her back to life, he wanted her. wanted her with a kind of selfishness that let her live in a nightmare long after the ambulance drove her out of camp nightwing. because she told him it was the curse, and was probably so hurt when nothing came of it. when everyone just assumed tommy went crazy, killed his girlfriend and a bunch of others. she probably felt broken and betrayed and a thousand other things, on top of living with the memory of the flashes of knowledge she received when her blood dripped onto sarah’s hand bone- stuff she didn’t even fully understand. nick could’ve validated her. nick could’ve supported her, backed her up. but nick said absolutely nothing. nick did nothing. NICK CHOSE TO SAY AND DO NOTHING, because in reality, he knew it was all realer than real- knew that his own ancestor was the originator of the curse, that the goode family kept it going from solomon up until then and even beyond that afterwards.
in 1978, ziggy said to him, “do you believe me?”. and he looked her right in the eye, while fellow campers, innocent people were being murdered and said “yes”, knowing FULL WELL HIS FAMILY WAS THE REASON THOSE CHILDREN WERE BEING SLAUGHTERED. just because they were deemed a necessary sacrifice to continue the unceasing prosperity of sunnyvale, and had the bad luck of being from the shadyside. while she was covered in blood and begging him to believe her, he already knew what was happening and why.
maybe some part of nick faltered at the sheer violence and carnage his family wreaked over time. maybe he had times where he doubted everything that was happening- but the fact is, people died because of him and his family. cindy died. but ziggy made it. becuause ziggy was pretty, because he liked her, because he thought she was different than the other people from shadyside, the ones he and his family deemed as expendable for their own gain.
but it’s like the widow said- making a deal with the devil is a CHOICE.
nick lived in the wealth his bloodline provided him. nothing that was earned, just built off the literal blood sacrifice of others. nick CHOSE to continue that. he wasn’t asking probing questions to deena, sam, simon, kate, and josh because he wanted to get down to the truth of what really happened- BECAUSE HE ALREADY KNEW. he just wanted to know how close they were to the truth. the truth of how much blood was on his and his family’s hands.
he called deena a d*ke, would’ve ended ziggy no matter how much of a crush he had on her, just to continue the whole frickin’ thing. to keep it going. he was just as selfish and greedy as solomon was.
nick goode was evil, but he had a pretty face, right? so viewers will keep searching for a reason for even a modicum of good in him. young nick and ziggy were adorable, so people can’t accept that he CHOSE to hurt her. like ziggy would ever fucking be okay with this man getting away with it all- she may have liked nick, but she LOVED her sister.
stop doing ziggy a disservice by trying to find some sort of overly multidimensional spin on nick. i’ll admit, i had a moment after i finished all 3 movies where i was like, damn, it sucks ziggy and nick didn’t make it, they had chemistry. and then i wanted to slap my hand on my forehead, because i was completely missing the point. fear street has an unexpected beauty to it because of the love characters have for each other- deena and josh, cindy and ziggy, sara and hannah, etc. it’s unselfish and pure and stubborn and all encompassing, it drives them and those characters would do so much for the ones they love.
nick’s “love” for ziggy, if you can even call it that, was not that type of life. it was selfish, and it was based on lies. even though she had a prickly exterior, ziggy obviously cared for others- hell, sheila strung her up and burned her and she still went back and risked her life to help her. nick presented as if he was also that way, as well as an outsider in his own life, someone who didn’t fit in. and maybe nick didn’t. maybe nick really struggled deep down with the curse. but in the end, nick made choices. just like solomon made the choice to deal with the devil, nick chose to let ziggy live in self-doubt and fear. nick chose to be selfish, to protect his family’s own interests.
you can still have chemistry with people who suck, that’s the catch of life. monsters can have attractive faces too. but to try to dive deep into nick’s character like he was eternally stuck as the conflicted teenage boy who wasn’t sure if he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps, even when he held a gun to ziggy’s head… ugh.
stop making excuses for the fucked up shit male characters do. they may look good, they may have been possible love interests, but why on god’s earth would you blatantly ignore the fact that someone like nick CHOOSE to continue the cycle solomon started so many years ago??
why is it so important to find reasons to explain away nick’s abhorrent behaviour? because teen nick and ziggy were cute? you can acknowledge that but still be able to point out nick’s deceit, his selfishness.
idk man this phenomenon is… troubling to say the least.

A ranking of all the TTT stories in order of how much I liked them.
(Oh god this is so long)
1 My Mother's Axe
BABY ANDYYYYYYYYYYYY. Honestly this one had the trifecta of developing a character's motivations, developing a character's backstory, & developing their personality. The story starting out with Andy teaching Nile to use the axe was so charming and fun, and you could feel that chemistry they had in Opening Fire, the way they teased and bickered with each other so naturally. I loved the wedge between them on the subject of the axe, how Nile was perhaps a little too young to understand Andy's feelings about whether or not its the 'same' axe. I also love how the axe is obviously the symbol of the franchise and hugely important, but you never get a sense of exactly how important it is to Andy until you read the story.
I love the entire Ship of Theseus theme, and how it feels so natural that for Andy she has to get attached to the idea of things rather than the things themselves because she'll always outlive the things themselves-- the axe is symbolically her mom's axe, even if physically it isn't. And I love how she clearly clings to that concept so tightly. "This is the labrys she held in her hands...." IT GETS ME.
And the fact that this sense of BELONGING, of FAMILY, of CULTURE is so important to Andy that she clings to it (figuratively and literally) with both hands. And of course it's important to her, she spent so long alone that the woman doesn't even remember her birth name. That axe (or the idea of that axe) is all she has left of her mother and that family/culture she was born into.
PLUS on that note I love how Andy doesn't remember if her mom was her actual biological mother, but it doesn't matter to her. This woman was her mother in all the ways that counted. And how her mom BETRAYED AND KILLED Andy but Andy loved her so much that she avenged her and carried her axe for thousands of years. THOUSANDS OF YEARS!!!!!!
I also loved how the story transcends the timeline of the whole franchise and seeing Andy through the years. Loved seeing her with the varying squads and with varying axes. Also baby Andy was so cute. It was cool seeing her so young. like holy fuck. Andromache The Scythian, Immortal Warrior (but smol). Love that.
Also I think this one is one of the few ttt stories that doesn't suffer from length problems.
tldr: goddammit greg you've done it again.
2 Zanzibar and Other Harbors
Zanzibar my beloved. I've said before, but it's downright comedic how little regard there was for Joe and Nicky's character designs in this story. The same person who does the colors for the regular comic did the colors for this one too, and you can tell, every panel of this story was Beautiful.
Ik there was A Lot of criticism of this one (lmao @ how the fandom had no idea what was to come) but I thought a lot of The Discourse was a bit dramatic. I did think Nicky came off as a little oblivious to Joe's feelings in this story, but I've said before, I honestly think that was a 'tone not translating' thing. It felt like Nicky was nagging Joe for [checks notes] saving innocent people, but Joe was so amused by Nicky's complaints I really do think it was supposed to come off as teasing.
Plus I know the 'Joe running off into danger and Nicky reluctantly following' dynamic wasn't popular (I'm a pretty meh on it meself) but I did love how Joe's impulsiveness (if you want to call it that) was interpreted as heroism and not hot-hotheadedness. All of the examples Nicky and Joe talked about included Joe explicitly saving people. (and it also took A Lot for the nazi to actually provoke Joe).
I also feel like their characterization here was closest to the movie canon-- the bit where they hear the woman scream and Joe goes running in to save her while Nicky swoops in on Joe's heels to comfort her while Joe and the nazi were fighting reminds me of the train car scene. Joe had suggested First that they go find Nile because she needed to be protected, and Nicky later added that Nile probably also needed emotional support. Similar reactions.
But it was So Good, the themes of queer community and the enduring nature of queer culture are Not themes you see in media that often and it was such a delight how it was done. Also it's one of the few more modern TTT stories that has a completely valid excuse for taking place when it did. Chef's kiss.
3 Passchendaele
I love the Duality between seeing baby Andy and then seeing Mama Andy in the very next issue. This story doesn't have a ton of meat to it, but the entire concept of Andy adopting a war orphan straight off the battlefield PLUCKS MY TENDER LITTLE HEARTSTRINGS, and I think it's especially poignant for comic!Andy. I think most people wouldn't think twice about movie!Andy doing something like that but comic Andy is so hardened and almost cruel sometimes, and seeing that even for her the world hasn't beaten all of the compassion from her yet is SO!!!!!!! this woman contains MULTITUDES okay, she's violent and angry and tired and Done but she's also so kind and compassionate and THE STRENGTH OF HER!!!!! Also the idea of her and Yitzhak co-raising a kid together is so damn cute. It was #mysterious pre-Yitzhak-story but now it's cute. holy fuck. It's cute.
& the headbonk panel of her and Zeus lives in my heart. anyways.
4 Many Happy Returns
I Know people weren't thrilled about Booker being in this one, but I've developed a pet-peeve about that: this story was *not* booker-centric. Booker only exists in this story to the extent required to explain the importance of the gesture Nile makes towards him. If there was a story about Booker making some grand gesture of kindness to Nile no one would be saying it was Nile-centric. bc it wouldn't be! Booker exists in this story to explore Nile's kindness, its not about him. I saw that a couple times and it bothered me. anyways.
AAAAAAAAAA I loved this one, the art was beautiful, I loved how Andy Nile and Booker were drawn (like their comic selves but.. more looking like actual people). I loved Andy and Nile's Bants, how Andy wanted to jump right in and Do Violence but Nile was basically telling her to hold her horses.
I feel like I'm just repeating the post I made on this story a few days ago, but I LOVED how Nile's plan revolves not around violence or Cool Mercenary Skills but on Nile's own life skills (as she canonly did a lot of minimum wage job-hopping before the marines in comics canon). Her plan used her skills, not the skills of an immortal warrior, and HER SKILLS were in fact more useful for the situation! lov to see Nile's resourcefulness and planning skills.
AND HOW NILE WAS PROBABLY WATCHING BOOKER??? it's so Much bc 1.) nile knew booker A SINGLE DAY and yet he made such an impression on her emotionally that she had to keep an eye on him and 2.) she said in the movie she wanted Booker to get off free with an apology. Yes she's a member of the team but that doesn't mean she's necessarily going to follow orders like a good little soldier. I also love how she convinced Andy to go along with it. her HEART, her KINDNESS, her THOUGHTFULNESS, UGH.
5 The Bear
Honestly I have like no negative things to say about this one other than a.) character design issues which is less about the story itself and is more of a 'tog comic in general' criticism and b.) too short, but it was supposed to be a tease, so.
But I loved Yitzhak, I wasn't expecting to really like him at all but like I said in my other post, he tickled me. I love characters who are Kind™, especially if they have little reason to be so given their backgrounds. Chef's kiss. Lov him.
6 Bonsai Shokunin
I know this one was a little controversial bc of the outsider POV but whenever I see people upset about that they never point out that the Outsider Guy (the samurai) existed as a reflection on Noriko. His ideas are explained in the text to develop hers. The whole story follows how she gave mercy to a scared young man and in response he murdered Noriko, repeatedly! Who gave him the right to inflict such pain and suffering on the world? In his opinion, the lack of response from the gods was his permission. And for Noriko-- over and over again she dies and suffers because she gave mercy, which lines up with her ideas in FM about how it's their fate to rule mortals and if they don't align with that plan/fate/whatever then they suffer. It shows some background to those ideas and how they developed in her mind outside of Ocean Madness™. Additionally, his idea of 'the Gods have done nothing to strike me down so it's fine if I do these things' kind of explains how Noriko may justify her own morally corrupt actions-- she's died so many times and it's never stuck. Maybe if she did die any of those times, or while she was in the water, maybe that would've been a sign she was doing something right, or at least doing something normal. But she hasn't died. Fate isn't done with Noriko yet. And maybe there's a reason for that. In her mind, it's just not a very pleasant reason, is all.
There were things I was kind of meh about tho. I did kind of wish we saw something of Noriko and the team, or smth explaining the way she was before her dip in the pool-- personality, likes dislikes, etc. but it wasn't bad or anything. It was super vague tho, I had to read it a few times before I got what it was going for. Liked the art. Liked the bonsai metaphor. And of course I Respect the decision to use the 1300s (1200s? I don't remember off the top of my head) rather than using the last 200 years.
7 Strong Medicine
Honestly looking back, this one made me kind of sad because both this one and Bonsai Shokunin explored character's ideas on Fate and The Divine and how that intersects with immortality and I totally thought that theme would be continued, especially with Love Letters. But Then It Wasn't™.
Admittedly.... I had to re-read this one to remember most of it. I liked Booker's ideas on God, 'The conductor of the symphony just may not be very good at his trade' but the plot itself was kind of forgettable. Some fuckin cowboys try to kill a doctor (their second) because he couldn't save their sickly brother. Book tries to stop them, gets killed, and then comes back and kills them all before they get the doctor. Alright. I liked the artstyle because the characters were ugly in a similar way that leandro's are, but way more bearable.
I love the Irony of Booker concluding that there is no such thing as fate or destiny and nothing has meaning, AS HE UNKNOWINGLY SAVES MERRICK'S GRANDFATHER FROM BEING KILLED. Booker getting fucked over by life/god/destiny yet again. It also kind of explains about where the fuck hell Merrick's interest in immortal mercenaries even came from.
I originally had this one a lot higher and then I thought about it and moved it down like two spots.
8 Never Gets Old
I liked seeing Booker interact with his kid. And we got a name for the kid! Philippe was a little bitch though, he was a little obnoxious. I liked how Booker was so thrilled to experience a restaurant with his kid (and since we know he was there before, it can be assumed he went with all of his kids and yet he was so charmed each time). It fits with his line to Nicky in the moon landing story about how you don't appreciate beautiful things 'unless you have someone to share them with'. It was charming to see Booker interact with his kid, and to see him so happy. Also lmao @ Booker's big fat Ye Olde Crush on Andy.
However at the same time it was like.. of all the things to write about,,, I guess? Booker's Night Out...... alright. Especially since Book had so many stories.
I don't know, it was alright. The old man killing him really came out of nowhere, (but the 'Salut, asshole!' panel was funny tho).
9 How To Make a Ghost Town
I've hit a point where talking about these stories has gotten less fun. I liked this one but I felt like Achilles getting lynched was not really necessary for a story that was already tragic (a story that already involved Achilles doing a lot of suffering at the hand of bigots). When we first got the blurb for this story I thought it would be about Andy returning to the squad and making friends with Booker after losing Achilles and them butting heads on the idea of family and when to cut off ties. So a little bit of my underwhelmedness about this one might be just my expectations being different.
Honestly I was pretty interested in Andy and Achilles' relationship and I would've liked to see more of them-- like, what was their dynamic like? What did they love about each other?
But anyways Andy leaving and Achilles getting killed anyways feels so pointlessly tragic (which I suppose is the point..... I don't like tragedies) she left to save him and yet people killed him anyway. Meh.
I did love the bits about Andy wanting to have a domestic life (Andy and her multitudes again) and the little detail about how she buried her axe near the road but he buried his guns under his bed-- he was an escaped slave, he never had the luxury of assuredness like Andy did. It was a sad story.
10 Lacus Solitudinis
'You put this one above love letters crim??? how could you???' easy, lmao.
There was stuff in this one I liked. But to talk about stuff I didn't like: (I'll keep it brief, I know ragging on this story has been done time and time again)
UH, setting aside the 6 year cold shoulder between Joe and Nicky, I thought their chosen method of conflict resolution was... bad at best. Nicky's inability to talk about his feelings was also annoying, especially since the entire point of this story is a fight Joe and Nicky had, and yet we don't get both sides to the story, which is...... important? That fact is especially annoying bc in the absence of Nicky explaining his side of the story, it's absolutely a possible (and admittedly probably unintentional) interpretation of the text that we do get that Joe routinely resolves conflict between him and Nicky by simply cutting Nicky out of his life entirely until Nicky just. caves? Even if it takes years?
WHICH i could get into that interpretation and how fucked up i find it. but im not going to. out of restraint.
I don't know, I think there are a lot of interesting ways to go about this conflict but 'Nicky wants to kill a guy and Joe refuses to acknowledge his existence until he stops because he thinks Nicky is too much of a Good Boy to get his hands dirty like that' ('I wont watch as the world turns his (...) compassion into something ugly'. ) wasn't.. how I would've done it. (I mean you know Joe doesn't give a shit about what Nicky is doing in a moral way, because Joe doesn't even care or mention that Booker is killing those cops too. Joe only cares because he doesn't like the idea of Nicky changing in a way he finds undesirable.)
admittedly I've said before, I do like the emphasis Joe's reaction puts on Nicky's kindness. Joe has a complete inability to cope with Nicky simply Not Being Kind. It speaks to the steadiness of Nicky's compassion all those years. but still that fact doesn't make it the conflict feel worth it
hm. I said I would be brief and I wasn't.
oh well. basically I thought there was interesting conflict potential there but it wasn't done the way I would've liked, and the way it was done leaves a lot of disturbing (and again probably unintended) interpretations to lie.
What I did like? Andy and Joe having that pessimist/optimist dynamic. Joe nerding out about science. Andy not being impressed by The Achievements Of Man. I loved Booker needling at Nicky about his outdated slang and also trying to give him Older Brother advice practically in the same breath. I loved Booker giving The Worst relationship advice ever and Nicky being like 'I Will Not Do That, Ever, Thanks.' the family vibes were so good. The Joenicky vibes left a lot to be desired tho.
11 Love Letters
I talked about my problems with Nicky in this story (and Lacus Solitudinis). I don't know, the story isn't bad but I do hold a little bit of a grudge towards it because its very existence begs the existence of a solo Joe story and we didn't get one. If we never got this story, then we could happily count Lacus Solitudinis and Zanzibar as The Joenicky Stories™ and move on with our lives. sigh.
I remember when we first got the blurb for this story I was really curious about why Nicky specifically + the setting, and the answer kind of feels like 'the author had an idea for a story like this and saw ttt as a good enough place to utilize that idea'. Plus I was really underwhelmed by the Romantic Sentiment in the letter. If you look at it line-by-line, the majority of the letter is actually Nicky talking about how lonely and disturbed he is, rather than actual,, yknow,,, Romantic Sentiment. I mean, compare the van speech and this letter and this letter is just kind of meh in comparison. I liked nicky calling joe wise! and I liked the brief sun/moon metaphor! and otherwise it was eh. It didn't even have cute squad banter, which is why Lacus Solitudinis is above this one.
12 An Old Soul
Nun orgy. Nun orgy?????? Nun orgy.......
The whole story felt like a setup to have a nun orgy. Why did Booker have abs? Why did they do that to Andy's nose? ?????? the art was good at least.
nun orgy.

How would the La Squadra family react to you having a crush on the former boss' daughter, Trish Una? An 'everyone lives' AU because I am in denial. This is going to be a long one as a one-shot, so I made it to headcanon form.
TW: Mentions of injuries, blood, and death
Genre: Platonic, Found family
~ Found and raised by Risotto and the entirety of La Squadra, you grew up within the vicinity of the underpaid mafiosi as a remarkable kid who has extensive knowledge about offing someone without leaving evidence. Well, not that you would be doing that, it's just that they thought teaching you some basics might help you if ever the moment comes and you'll find this useful. That, and self-defence too. ~ You were always under the watchful eye of anyone in the La Squadra, so you found yourself being sneaky just so you can escape them at times without being noticed. They were uber protective of you and to be honest, it can be overbearing at times. ~ You get along with all of them, as you were quite the chameleon. You can match with Prosciutto's stern and strict attitude, be as brooding and intimidating as Risotto, have fun and make jokes like Formaggio, etc etc. ~ Everything was alright, of course, but there's the fact that the assassin branch of Passione were being underpaid, I mean come on. The group begrudgingly accepted this, until Gelato and Sorbet rebelled and failed. They served as the catalyst for the entirety of the La Squadra to betray Passione and overthrow the boss, but waited for a perfect opportunity to do so. ~ The death of the couple Gelato and Sorbet left a hole in your hearts. You found yourself hanging around the couple whenever you felt like it, and intimidating as they look they welcome you with warm arms. ~ And among those days as a thirteen year old, you found yourself sitting at the edge of Risotto's bed, putting a hand over his shoulder to calm him down. Out of the entirety of the La Squadra, he was person severely affected with grief at the death of his teammates, seated at the edge of his bed and cupping his face and choking at his denied sobs. ~ Two years after, it was then the perfect time to strike and wipe out the boss. At the form of his daughter, they strategize to kidnap her, extract information of his identity from her, and strike on the boss. You were reluctant for them to act out this risky mission after seeing what happened to two remarkable assassins of La Squadra who paid the price of punishment without the boss even speaking. And they didn't even plan to involve you in this operation, not even if your Stand is powerful. ~ One by one, they fall apart and it was you're sole mission was to recover their maimed remains and nurse them back to health, travelling to myriad parts of Italy with a van you stole enough to fit the entirety of the La Squadra and with medical equipments. They were barely breathing, but you got to work with what you have, robbing hospitals of equipments and shoplifting from shops for food. Staying up late at night to tend to them, making sure their heartbeats remain steady at the duration of the night. Some of them, their states were worst than the other, you found yourself focused on Illuso and Pesci, as their bodies were the most mangled among others. ~ They all survived thankfully, all mortally injured but survived. Around those times you stayed up late at night tending to their needs, working with your Stand to make sure they live normally again. Tears were shed, hugs were exchanged, numerous 'ow's!' and 'ouch!' were exclaimed. ~ You caught wind of the boss being defeated and honestly, you couldn't care less about it. All you want was that your family survived and functional again. And with that need, you wait for the new boss to find out about the people who attempted to hinder them at their trip, and find you. And by this time, you were ready to bargain your life for them. But instead of being greeted by death, somehow, the new boss opted torecognise the group's strengths and skills as assassins, and offered you guys a chance to prove yourselves worthy to be recruited back in Passione and not be killed. He comissioned your group with important missions to assassinate other branches of Passione dealing criminal services to children, and paid you handsomely in advance and promised more if you were back in Passione. ~ The squadron were
confused, but chose to take the job and easily wiped out those type of people from Passione. Since all of them were in a better state, a little rusty so they took you on the job and for once in your life as one of the La Squadra family, you were made official and made into an assassin along with them. ~ The squad was successful, and earn their selves back in Passione. Although the interaction with the Bucci gang was awkward, you were all professional and civil and seemingly buried the hatchet. ~ Soon after they were able to get back on track in just a span of a year, they offered you to get back to school and lead a somewhat normal life. You accept and enrolled to a private boarding school and unbeknownst to you, so did a certain pink haired sixteen year old. ~ It was in the middle of a school year, too, you've been getting weird looks from classmates. Honestly, you didn't think high school would be this severe and kinda regretted returning to school when you're already content with being homeschooled with the help of Melone and Ghiaccio. I mean, you're an assassin for god's sake but you can't just kill people because they whispered rumours and insults behind your back for being... You honestly didn't know why they treat you like this. ~ Days later, a certain Trish Una also enrolled back to school in an attempt to restore some point of normalcy in her life. Like you, she found herself as a target for whispers at how she looked so snobby and bratty despite being so quiet. ~ I'mma write a whole ass one-shot of you meeting Trish because I can't pass up to simp over her tbh. ~ You found yourself befriending her, oblivious at the fact she is affiliated with Passione, and was the daughter of the old boss, and the girl your family had been trying to kidnap for the sake of overthrowing the old boss. Like her, she was oblivious at your affiliation with the assassin branch of Passione as well. ~ You stuck together at school, just traumatised kids being pals and trying to live a normal life, bonding over anything really, having one teach the other complicated mathematics, until you two started to hang out outside of school where at weekends after school, you two would go out in the nearest mall to shop and perhaps eat in a cafe. ~ The whole La Squadra were refreshed at how you always smile all the time and stare off into space, they were confused at your sudden concern over your appearance and choice of apparel, you started to go out more, etc. They were confused (but never spoke of it out loud around you) at the change, but supported you nonetheless because it was normal to do as a teenager so they let you be. ~ One day, Trish decided to ask you for a study date at the café you frequented at in a Saturday morning and for some reason, you just had the urge to look your best despite just studying. Indecisiveness room over you, prompting you to seek advice from the most fashionable member of the group, Prosciutto. ~ He gave you the advice you need, and so you thanked him to turn away, leave and try the outfits he chose, when Formaggio suddenly spoke beside him: "Ohhh~ Y/N's going in a date~" Formaggio teased, lips pouting playfully and voice in a painfully high, poor attempt to imitate a school girl voice. "What? Does wittle Y/N has a cwush?" You stopped in your tracks at that, glancing at the cheese man with furrowed brows in confusion, but cheeks scorched with the sudden flow of adrenaline from the situation he's put you in. Without hearing a context of anything as he happened to just be walking by he stops, and Melone chimes in as he looked up from his monitor, "A date? With whom?" "You're going on a date?" Prosciutto raised a brow, perhaps preparing a nice, long lecture for you to endure for like an hour. "Is that why you're dressing up nicely?" "I— no!" A rush of overwhelming feeling of confusion, denial and something more mixed in your systems and became more incoherent and incoherent as you try and process things further. "I'm just going out on a study with a friend of mine. I'm not going out on a
date. What? I'm not allowed to get dolled up and look pretty while reviewing?" You try to jest to get yourself out of the situation. ~ After that's over with, Prosciutto let you go with the suspicion of you seeing someone in secret but you deny that wholeheartedly. Jesus now that they mentioned you were out going out on a date with someone, your chest grew tight with something you can't fathom, but more on confusion. "We're just friends hanging out to review, nothing else. Isn't it normal to want to dress up for a friend and look decent... Right?" You attempt to reassure yourself in your way there. ~ You arrive at the café where Trish sat, and just gawked at how effortlessly beautiful she is. She just looks so divine and elegant and beautiful and cute and adorable no matter what she does. She invites you over the table to study and all you could of was the fact it was only you two in the cafe apart from the employee but you are with her, alone... Like a date. Well it is a study date after all, meaning it's for friends. Right? ~ At the duration of the date— study date that is, you were concentrated on  simplifying a lot of lessons for Trish to understand better, but upon that concentration you found yourself fixed on her. The way she bit her lips glossed with pink strawberry lip gloss whenever some questions were difficult for her to solve, the way her emerald gaze would dart up to you after answering for reassurance that she did a great job, the way she'd smile in triumph upon getting questions correct... ~ After that day, you proceeded to question yourself what Formaggio asked earlier, "Does wittle Y/N have a cwush?" And within that newfound realisation, yes you do. But you refuse to feel more of it... Not when she's around of course. ~ Days later, by accident, the secret was let out of the bag. Illuso caught glimpse of a poem you were writing beside him as you lounged around in a Saturday and scanned through it, looking for something he can tease you for it, and successfully spotted a misspelling. As he was about to correct it for you, he then realised you were writing, and addressing a poem towards the girl they were intending to kidnap a year ago. ~ The jerk Illuso is, snatched your notebook away from you, transferred himself in the mirror realm, and began to read it out loud for the others to hear. At first the others just thought of it as normal, it's a day to day occurrences among all you after when they slowly became intrigued to what you've written and listened to Illuso, as you did all your might to get it back. That's when they all heard your fancy towards Trish. ~ Now that connects the dots to why you always smile and stare off into space, dress nicely, and among other stuff you do whilst in love or ahem— as you claimed, 'having a crush' ~ Formaggio began to tease along with Illuso, whilst you only hid your scorching face behind your hands, holding the urge to murder Illuso for that. He knew what's up the moment you've been in a sickly sweet mood, along with your lovesick smile but needed further proof to tease you for it. ~ Prosciutto is rather nonchalant at the news, I mean, it's not new for teens to experience these things. As long as it doesn't really spiral to obsession he's going to let you be. ~ Pesci would be happy for you but under these circumstances of the revelation, he feels your pain and tries his best to comfort you because omg, he can't get through people teasing him, let alone see his loved ones being teased. ~ Melone is simply amused and quite frankly, not surprised. He predicted this will happen sooner or later, as he silently held out his hand in front of the fuming Ghiaccio, waiting for the bet money he has won over. ~ Ghiaccio was fuming not specifically towards you, but at how the revelation has come too light a few days early for him to win this silly little wager he had with Melone. Now, he's like twenty dollars poorer. Like Prosciutto, he's nonchalant and chill about it. ~ Risotto is particularly happy for you because for once, you were happy and somewhat
having a normalcy he has craved for you to have ever since he had kept you in La Squadra as a family member instead of an assassin. On the surface he's unfazed, but inside he is supportive and thankful you were happy. ~ Overall, they're all just supportive of you.

I has a question....so I recently made post about why I support Jily...Someone then said I was ignoring Snape's trauma as a seggs-ually assault survivor??? I am genuinely confused as to when did this happen? To me, I felt that Snape really was kinda stuck in time (when he still held grudges against children, miscommunicated info to Harry--> led to sirius's death {im not over that},etc.)... Yes he was bullied and pranked, James attacked him mercilessly, but like i feel like it would be discrediting Snape to say that he can't fight back? Like Snape smart smart ykyk? I feel like this really was a back and forth esp behind the scenes, it just that James was more of a big mouth type of bully if this makes sense? Anyways, I dont want to invalidate a trauma survivor's experience, bc ye my opinion of snape being "stuck in time" would be too harsh...but again...im genuinely confused as to when did this happen....really...really....really....confused...What do you think? Sorry for the 3AM thoughts
Ugh, first of all, why people come to a Jily post to defend Snape?
Now, to give you my 3pm thoughts about it. There is no evidence of assault against Snape. What we see and what's said in the books was that once James did turn Snape upside down and that showed his underwear (which I don't get it - where are his pants?). Was it nice? No, everyone agreed that it wasn't (later, at least, back then they were all stupid teenagers). Was it sexually? Not intended.
Was Snape a victim? At that particular moment at SWM, yepe, I won't disagree - it was two to one. Other times? Not necessarily. It's said that Snape fought back, that he never lost an opportunity to hex James either, and the only spell that Snape used in SWM was clearly a dark spell. Sirius mentions that Snape knew a lot of spells in school, so yepe, Snape was smart enough to fight back; and even in OotP, he gives it back to Sirius just as he receives, so he isn't the crying boy sitting in the corner anymore. And people like to think of Snape as some sort of lonely guy, but he was "part of a gang of Slytherins" as Sirius notes, he walked with Avery and Mulciber as Lily mentions, and he was Lucius Malfoy's lapdog.
Was it easier to James to grow up and move on from his teenage days than it was for Snape? Yeah. Does that justify Snape getting bitter and uncapable of moving on? No.
The thing that I don't think Snape sees it until very late (and by late I always think 40 years later in that crazy apocalypse world in Cursed Child) was that he made all the wrong choices. He shares some similarities with the Marauders. He loves Lily as James does, but instead of being a better man, he pushes her away, lets his prejudice take over (and he is prejudiced - his problem with "mudblood" is because he called her that, not because he believes they are all equal, there's not a single canon proof of it). He has a horrible family as Sirius does, but he lets that bitterness against his father turn into a bitterness against all muggles, lets the misery of his life contaminate others; and the house - he sees Sirius trapped exactly as Snape once was in a house that he hates, and he torments Sirius for it! He isn't popular, the celebrity, as Remus isn't, but instead of appreciating the true friend he had in Lily, he pushes her away and is never selfless (his acts for her were based on his love, his guilt). And even Peter - they both betrayed their friends in a sense, but whereas Peter gets this one tiny moment of guilt, Snape's first instinct is ask for Lily's life because he wants her, regardless of what she wants (and Dumbledore is right when he says that Snape doesn't care for their lives as long as he has what he wants).
Now, what I can't really defend in Snape is that he was the underdog, he was bullied and what he does when he grows up is bully others even when he sees what happened to them. He sees how Neville is in the first years and he mocks him for it. He knows Hermione tries harder because she's a muggleborn and he calls her a know-it-all. And he sees Harry's memories, sees him as a little kid being laughed off, and that doesn't change anything. He can't see past Harry's look, he can't ignore the fact that Lily choose someone over him and that's not just him presenting a character. That's just Snape stuck in the time for me, really.

Dekusquad reacts to ATLA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Izuku Midoriya:
He loves this show. Loves it so much. It’s so near and dear to his heart, and it has such great messages and as he sees the characters progress, improve their bending, and mature from being just regular teenagers; the Gaang just screams “I am here!” to him.
He has cried more than once.
Favorite characters: Toph, Iroh, and Aang
Toph is so inspirational to him in the way that she’s blind, but is so incredibly strong and has that power and confidence that he looks up to and sees in Kacchan.
And his favorite color is green.
Iroh kind of reminds him of his mom, because Iroh is easily one of the strongest characters in the series (and his mom is the strongest person he knows! Even over All Might!) and is gentle and kind like her.
He wasn’t a major fan of Aang (but still liked him a lot!) in the beginning because he “didn’t want to be the Avatar” and Izuku didn’t understand that very much.
But later on in the series, Aang becomes more mature and Izuku really came to love Aang when he refused to kill the Fire Lord.
A person that values peace and well-being over all is a true hero to Izuku.
Favorite Scene: the last one where everyone is happy and laughing at Sokka’s picture.
Least Favorite Scenes: when Appa was kidnapped, and when Azula was chained to the grate.
That scene shook him to the core, because while he never liked her it kinda made him realize that she was a human too.
And when he found out that she was fourteen to sixteen like he was? He was so heartbroken for her even if she was a bad person.
Todoroki Shouto:
He’s never watched a lot of cartoons when he was younger, but when all of Class 1-A started to binge it during their free periods and classes, he watched it with them.
Favorite Character: Katara
Everyone wants him to like Zuko the most, and he does admire the Fire Prince in a way that they’re so similar: the scar, the parents, the fire abilities. He was just really turned off from Zuko’s character in the beginning.
He didn’t like how Zuko went to such lengths just to get his honor back and to please the dad that scarred him, and he doesn’t like how Zuko treated Iroh on multiple occasions.
They way Zuko is easily riled up and yells a lot makes him better for someone like Bakugou.
He likes Katara because she values her mother, and is a strong character, and he can at least relate to her through her water/ice ability.
He also admires how she uses her water ability to heal, and he wonders if he could use his Quirk to heal too.
He likes Iroh, but doesn’t get the man’s silliness or jokes.
Favorite Scene: Iroh’s Leaves From The Vine or Katara’s Painted Lady moments
Least Favorite Scene: When Aang attempted to show off his new firebending and ended up hurting Katara.
That’s the absolute worst thing that Aang did, Todoroki believes.
After Class 1-A finishes watching it Kaminari and Mina occasionally tell Todoroki that his “scar is on the wrong side.”
“I get that reference.”
Uraraka Ochako
Was OBSESSED with it as a child.
Watched it ever since it was originally aired on TV. If an episode was playing, she wouldn’t be doing what she’s supposed to do and just watched ATLA.
The type that woke up super early or stayed up super late when Nick was doing the reruns years later after the series finished.
Definitely has an old Aang costume somewhere in her closet from her childhood.
Pretended to be an airbender and an earthbender with her Quirk more than once.
Tumblr media
I headcanon that even though her parents are working hard and busy, they used to watch ATLA together on the couch and bonded over that, so it has a lot of good memories.
Favorite characters: The entire Gaang, but especially Sokka and she likes Ty Lee and Suki.
She loves how funny and silly Sokka is and his antics just bring a smile to her face. She also admires how talented and intelligent he is. Sokka’s the type that attempted to do everything for his family and the Southern Water Tribe, and she definitely some of herself in him. Uraraka wants to support her family too!!
And she thinks Sokka >>>> Zuko
Suki and Ty Lee are just so incredibly powerful and determined without losing their femininity. They’re incredible role models!
Yes, when she was in elementary school and had to write down what she wanted to be when she grew up she put down Kiyoshi Warrior and cried when the teacher told her that it didn’t exist.
Yes, being a Pro Hero was her second choice.
Yes, she tried to do some of Ty Lee’s flips and handstands when she saw it for the first time and still has scars from it.
Yes, when she was interning under Gunhead she got to finally live out her dreams.
Favorite Scene: when Mai and Ty Lee betray Azula. It was an incredible moment of realization of what they truly wanted and what they valued. Also the cinematography and choreography was great. It was POWERFUL.
And she loves every scene with the cabbage man in it.
Also the Ember Island Play. She is one of the students that jokingly tell Todoroki that his scar’s on the wrong side.
Least Favorite Scene: Every scene where Appa is struggling when he was kidnapped and when Aang yelled at Toph when she “lost” him.
It wasn’t so much the actual scene where Appa was being taken away, but the aftermath of how hurt everyone was from his loss that go to her.
And yes, the two longer strands of hair on the sides of her face are inspired by the ATLA girls’ hairstyles. She got to the hair salon and was like, you know Azula from Avatar?
Iida Tenya
Has never heard of it before he watched it with the rest of Class 1-A, but he has heard of the term “waterbender,” “firebender,” “earthbender,” and “airbender” before.
Thought of the blue people if you said “Avatar.”
Didn’t think much of it until later in the series, around the time when things got more serious like the scenes with Haru and the Northern Water Tribe.
At first he watched it with his classmates because they chose it, but soon enough he was shushing everyone so that he could watch it.
Favorite characters: Zuko and Haru.
Haru was who originally got him hooked into the series and his story of finally standing up against the people who put him in prison is something that he admires. Even though Haru was scared to save the old man, he did it in the end because it was the right thing to do, even if the repercussions weren’t right.
I headcanon that Iida secretly likes the more wild characters. People expect him to like the more strict, uptight characters, but I think that since this man was willing to just throw everything to go after his brother’s almost-killer to get his revenge, Iida likes the characters who freely do what they want if that is what they believe is right.
He hated Zuko when the series started, but loved his long and tiring story of doing the right thing until he finally reached redemption. The scene where Zuko decided to spare the pregnant woman when he was out on his own just stuck with him.
Favorite Scene: The scene where Iroh escapes from prison and accepts Zuko back after he left.
The Day of the Black Sun was just a well-done arc that showed the intricacies of warfare and thinking out battles and the importance of planning things out.
He also loves the scene when Iroh opens the Jasmine Dragon.
Least Favorite Scenes: when Aang discovers that his people all died in a genocide, whenever Azula abuses her power, and especially when she struck Aang down with lighting.
He was so stressed when he first saw the scene when it happened he stood up immediately and screamed, “WHAT?!” at the TV. Continually asks Uraraka if Aang’s going to live, if the Avatar line ends here, etc. when he’s going to know in a couple of minutes.
He also hates Zuko’s origin and the story of how he got the scar. He got so enraged at Fire Lord Ozai for fighting and scarring his own son that you’ve thought that he was a real person.
Before he watched ATLA, he thought that the line, “There’s no war in Ba Sing Se,” was a powerful piece of old Chinese Literature. Legit used it in one of his essays back in Soumei Junior High.

shigaraki’s bringing the world of quirks to an end?
this is just a theory I thought about for awhile now, please don’t take it too seriously.  (i’m also very sorry for my english i’m not a native speaker)
the main point is: somehow Shigaraki is going to destroy quirks as such or will become the main reason of them disappearing. it’ll possibly also end of hero system.
It all actually started with this:
Tumblr media
I thought about this panel a lot.
What we had seen in BNHA universe plenty of times? There’s always bad guys, like real bad, and there’s good guys, right? The bad ones are villains, good are heroes, simple as it is.
As if.
What we had actually seen, that there’s no real punishment for heroes for their crimes, which most of the times got covered by the government, and all blame is usually on villains. I don’t say here that villains are doing only good things - they kill, they kidnap, they’re villains. But. They’re villains for a reason.
And the first interesting thing here is that Shigaraki is sure that he will be forgiven. Which is like... why? Why do you care about things like that, why does that matter to you - to be forgiven?
The second one is - he is sure of it. All of his actions will matter in the end, he believes in that. he feels like that. Like, if you think of it, it almost sounds like not only he’ll find his redemption, but he’ll become... a hero??? Sort of?? I mean, there must be a reason for Horikoshi-sensei to drop such a hint.
What I wanted to say is: perhaps, in addition to the punishment that Shigaraki will receive for his crimes, he will be avenged in some way. Perhaps he will do something or cause something so destructive - and this is not necessarily a bad thing! - that it’ll change the whole world and society. And his role in this cardinal change will be so great that his crimes in some way will make sense.
He’s guilty, but not only him.
Because it was society that gave birth to Shigaraki Tomura. So he’s gonna end it, and the world of quirks too. Because the live in a society, built on quirk use.
A few key-points here:
Midoriya’s words about him being a great hero
The whole manga starts with his words, about him, being a great hero. This is his story, his POV (but sometimes we see it from different perspective - like MVA arc, where the main POV is Spinner). And the thing is, there’s nothing wrong with Midoriya’s words, until we realize in which world he lives. Can we just think about his words for a second?
Midoriya in ch. 1 says:
Tumblr media
We know, this story takes place in a society build on a heroes and hero system. All Might himself is the №1 hero, the title later goes to Endeavor and the ranking IS important in this world. It influences peoples lives, we’ve seen plenty examples - Midoriya, Bakugou, Todoroki, i can go on - they all suffered in some way because of that. The №1 Hero is the most important title in their society, and yet, Midoriya doesn’t say he’s the number one hero.
He says, he’s a great hero.
Which makes no sense in the world he lives in. He entered UA because he wanted to become the number one hero, all of them wanted to become the number one hero.
Tumblr media
In their world, hero is not a hero as we say it, it’s a profession, and it’s a whole system, with rankings and popularity and money and so on. The word “hero” has the whole other meaning, it’s pretty specific - it’s SOMEBODY who has dedicated his life to saving others. He’s got money, some rank, it’s his profession - to save others. It’s his job. It’s no longer has the meaning it had waaay back then.
It doesn’t mean the same as in our world. For example, Cambridge Dictionary explains the word ‘hero’ as:
Tumblr media
So, when Midoriya says, he became a great hero, it may have the meaning it has in the BNHA universe. It may. But we also can assume it has more of an traditional meaning to it, which is new to the whole hero system in the BNHA universe.
Which means, he may or not may be the number one hero. But he is definitely the hero and maybe he somehow changed the whole meaning of this word in the BNHA universe. And titles like ‘number one hero’ doesn’t mean much anymore.
‘People are not born equal’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the society all of the characters live it’s VERY important to have a cool quirk. You’re basically not cool, if you don’t have cool quirk, and lord save you, if you don’t have one at all. It’s really shitty for obvious reasons.
For example, Bakugou with his quirk, which society he lives in defines as ‘cool’, is praised and cheered. His own mother says, he was spoiled, he was always told he’s gonna be great and so on and so on. His quirk is socially acceptable, society defines it as ‘cool’. It wasn’t his fault, he was just born in society like this, and he was lucky - and unlucky because of that. No one cares about his persona, he builds his confidence based on his quirk - and we’ve all seen the outcome. The other good example of ‘lucky child with a great quirk’ is Shouto. Like. He literally was born for his quirk, his own father didn’t care about his personality, all that mattered to him - and the whole society, because no one helped his family - Shouto’s perfect quirk and how Shouto mastered it.
We also have Toga. Her quirk wasn’t socially acceptable. She was born this way and society already didn’t like her. Like, you have a quirk, cool, but your quirk isn’t cool, so you suck also.
She was perfectly normal, she was just a curious child, she wanted to know how her quirk works.
Tumblr media
And just because of that, she was bullied and rejected and that’s the exact reason she became a villain, because why not? They already told her she’s a monster, she’s not normal.
Tumblr media
The other great example of this category is Shigaraki himself and Shinsou. They have powerful quirks, but this power terrifies people, so who’d want to give them a chance? And why, when they already have their perfect lucky kids with brilliant quirks!
And we of course have Midoriya, who didn’t have any quirk at all, and who was bullied all the way until high school.
This whole theme is also discussed in MVA arc, it was a ride
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
No one uses quirks freely, by the way. There is always a feeling that they value you based on how you use your quirk, because this is how the world works in which the characters live.
The fight between Geten and Dabi actually shows that people ARE raised with the idea of this some kind of hierarchy based on quirks. Because this idea is already stuck in their heads:
you = your quirk.
Tumblr media
And with that whole idea of course someone like Dabi is an outsider.
Tumblr media
But we know only Dabi. And how many more people like Dabi was rejected for the same reason?
ALSO, Overhaul arc and Eri herself is a proof that the whole quirk thing is a weak spot in this system. If the world wasn’t so focused on the quirks, people like Chisaki wouldn’t have so much support. Chisaki himself is a hypocrite of course, he wanted power before everything else, but he had support because there are people who suffered because of their quirks. They wanted some sort of revenge, justice, maybe they truly believed in him.
The idea is: there are losers with bad quirks and there are lucky ones with cool quirks. There will always be some sort of hierarchy, no equality, til quirks exist.
So. What do we got here?
society doesn’t care about you - it cares about your quirk
if  your quirk is too powerful or extraordinary or too deadly for you or simply not so impressive - you’re not cool. you’re not cool and you can’t sit with us
if you don’t have quirk at all - poor soul, you are your quirk, so now you’re simply nothing
You better be born with a cool quirk here and may odds be ever in your favor.
Hero system is rotten to the core
It’s the most obvious point here, and we won’t stop here now to discuss it in particularly, but.
The point here is: it simply doesn’t work.
You can’t save everyone, right? But raised in a society overflown with heroes everyone expects to be saved. And sometimes, it just doesn’t happen.
Tumblr media
Tenko didn’t get any help BECAUSE everyone expected some hero to save him. And what did those people think? I’m not a hero, right, it’s not my job.
Tumblr media
It must’ve never become a job, a profession, a system in the first place.
And then people like Shigaraki Tomura and Dabi were born. They weren’t needed or saved by heroes when they were Tenko (and Touya). In fact, they were fooled and tortured by that exact society, who praises heroes. This world praises heroes, and for what??
Like, really, for what? How exactly and why did they become heroes in the first place?
The main reason always is simple - they have cool quirk. So they simply must become hero, right?))
Tumblr media
Funny, it’s Hawks who actually realizes how the whole point of being a hero is corrupted and misunderstood. He knows by first hand probably, that there are people that are here only for money, or power, or fame - they don’t exactly care about being a Hero. What the ‘hero’ is anyway? It’s a profession, fantasy became reality because of cool quirks.
It’s a job. Sometimes people are lazy at job, they don’t care about it too much, they were forced to work here, they do it for the money etc. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just for the fact that this particular job was ‘created’ to help and to save. They practically playing people’s lives.
Tumblr media
Hawks himself is doing his best to help people, but he knows. Not everyone cares.
There are bad people, who are heroes.
There are good people, who are villains.
So, how does it all leads us to Shigaraki and his role in destroying quirks?
He wants to destroy everything.
Tumblr media
But if we think of it: what is the ‘everything’ he had seen? If we look at the villains - at the League in particular - it’s clear, that they’re not a part of a existing system, they choose not to be and openly act against it. Why shouldn’t they? They were betrayed by it, tortured or just didn’t fit in and that led them to the villainy.
-> The whole society praise heroes because of their power -> Their power is their quirks -> Their quirks are socially acceptable. ->
It’s a vicious circle, and if you’re a part of this system, and you have your privileges and fame and money and powers over the others, of course you wouldn’t want to change it! Why? It’s perfectly fine that way! Of course there would be exceptions, but the most are just that.
And then there’s League and Shigaraki.
There’s simply no future for them in such world. They’re already outsiders, they were considered as villains even when they weren’t exactly that. In the existing society, with it’s morals and definition of a word ‘hero’ there’s no future for them. They don’t need that.
Tumblr media
In some way, this is what he shows Re-Destro in the end of this arc.
Tumblr media
A new horizon, whole new world that no ones in their generation has ever seen before. Shigaraki rejects all of old traditions, morals, because why exactly he should have follow them? He is liberated. He’s free from the standards of this world, they're not applicable to him and he himself doesn’t need them one bit.
Just as with an existing society, he begins to think within the framework of the concept of his own world. And nothing of the old will come in handy there.
Tumblr media
The trick here is, Shigaraki didn’t realize his goal and didn’t understand himself until this arc. He just always felt really bad and didn’t know why. He was pretty immature in the beginning of the story, he grew up, but really til this arc he hadn’t had any other reason to destroy than his own hatred. Which is fair enough, but again, he didn’t understand why he hated this all so much. He was convinced of this, he was manipulated, but he did not have personal motivation, because there was no understanding of who he was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It became clear for him only when he got back his memories. And that is the moment he realizes - there’s no need in anything more, he already has it all in himself.
Tumblr media
And he destroys his family, again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But, even when Shigaraki destroys his family and by that frees himself, he still cares about the League. In fact, they’re the only good thing, the only happy relationship he has in his life. He cares about them, and cares deeply, because if he didn’t, he would’ve simply use them as his pawns. But he cares.
He understands Jin’s feelings about Magne’s death, that is the reason he sends him to Chisaki. Of course this is also a way to destroy Chisaki and get their bullets, but why Twice? Why not Spinner, for example?
The thing is, besides everything he wants for Jin to find his redemption. He wants him to sleep peacefully, and that is also a good reason for Shigaraki.
Tumblr media
Feelings of his allies matter to him, really. Even if he doesn’t show it much, even if it has to do something with his goals to gain power and destroy, he still cares about them and what do they feel. He says, they don’t need future, but somehow he considers that after it all ends and he’ll win, they will be by his side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He praises his allies for their success and he doesn’t blame them when they can’t help him. There’s the world and there’s them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shigaraki himself may not understand that, but he’s intuitively good with motivation. He speaks their language, they understand him and he understand them. He refuses to understand this world, but they’re the outsiders, just as him. They don’t care about this society ideals and morals and hierarchy, they care about themselves, and their loved ones. And so is Tomura.
Tumblr media
He wouldn’t understand why should he do something because it’s ‘good‘ or ‘right‘. But he will do something if his allies asked him.
In other words, first of all they’re just a bunch of people with not socially praised-acceptable-etc quirks. When the whole world is built on the idea of great people who owns great quirks and people who don’t have one are considered to be second-rate in advance, of course Shigaraki wants to destroy it. Literally everything in the world is about quirks. The first and the main issue with this world are the quirks as such.
So, to destroy this world in it’s existing form he has to destroy such thing as quirks.
How he’s gonna do that?
(i have no idea don’t ask me)
His quirk developed a lot. Now he can destroy things even when he didn’t directly touch it, and later in the same fight he develops ability to decay with two fingers.
Tumblr media
Dare I say, it may develop even more?.. To the point when he’ll be able to destroy not only material things? It’s just a theory, but in some form he may develop some sort of similar ability. And with that... he’ll definitely cause more destruction. And he’ll be able to destroy more important things. Like quirks (i’m so sorry I said it like billion times but it has to be said)
He’s the successor of AFO, who gave him his last name and raised him (sort of...). But the thing here is that AFO’s quirk is literally stealing quirks from others. Maybe Shigaraki will have his quirk, since we know AFO also can give stolen quirks to others. I believe it has something to do with AFO and his younger brother, they were here from the very beginning and somehow it will play it’s role.
His history in itself is destructive to existing society. It is not just that the AFO said the true name of Shigaraki during the battle with the All Might. If you tell this story correctly, it is capable of undermining the very foundations of heroism, which are based on the use of quirks. He’s the grandson of Nana Shimura, and yet, even he wasn’t saved. This just doesn’t work.
He’s the dark shadow of Midoriya’s story. They share many similarities, and they both struggle because of quirks - Tenko’s was deadly and unwanted, Izuku simply didn’t have any. They both wanted to be heroes and fight bad guys, but they didn’t realize who were those bad guys. Tenko lived with one of those, and still, nobody helped him.
Overhaul’s bullets. They scare society so much simply by their existence. Whereas if everything were not built around quirks, it simply would not be such a problem. And Shigaraki has them.
I think it’s safe to day, that quirks are the main issue with the whole BNHA universe. Because of it, hero system was created. Because of it, lives were ruined.
And i just hope Shigaraki will somehow end this bullshit. That’s what he does - he destroys. And this system must be destroyed.

RWBY team impact anon. Thank you for answering my asks! I did want to follow up with one quick question. Does RWBY actually represent anyone? Nobody appointed/elected them. Blake is a princess bc she's Ghira's kid and that's it. IW has a commissioned duty. RWBY doesn't seem to have a legal right to make decisions for Solitas...let alone withhold information from IW that could impact the continent's defense. I'm confused why these kids are the protagonists? Has CRBWY done enough to justify that?
Of course! :D
I touched on this briefly many months back and as far as I can tell, no, the show hasn’t done a particularly good job of answering that question: Why are these people our protagonists? What gives them the power to get involved? Usually stories—particularly fantasy stories—provide clear-cut answers so that we can best immerse ourselves in this situation, rather than continually questioning why this group, out of all groups, is the one we get to follow. The two most common explanations are:
This group has to fight whether they want to or not. Meaning, some outside force is exerting control over them. They’re stuck in the center of this fight whether they like it or not and thus we, in turn, are stuck with them as our protagonists. Think Harry Potter with a prophecy hanging over his head. Luke being born as a Skywalker. Geralt forced into a witcher’s life with a destiny to juggle. These characters are all bound to something larger than themselves and are, to one extent or another, carried along on the current of that. They have to fight. (“Have” — often overcoming the internal conflict of whether they’ll agree to this unwanted responsibility adds to their heroism. They COULD just run for the hills like Ozpin with his cabin, but they won’t).
RWBY, however, undermines this sort of setup at every turn. Our characters continually reject responsibilities that may have led them to being a part of other fights—Blake leaves the White Fang despite her parentage and life-long involvement in it, Weiss walks about from the SDC despite being born as an heir and wanting to improve the company—and the closest thing we get to fate is with Ruby’s silver eyes. However, that was likewise undermined when Maria came onto the scene. Rather than presenting us with a world where silver eyes are either unique or rare enough that Ruby feels compelled to fight Salem even if she doesn’t otherwise want to, they gave us a character with the same skill, even more talent (if Maria’s moniker as The Grimm Reaper is any indication) who then said no thanks. She left. Bowed out. So what’s stopping Ruby from doing the same? Nothing. She could pull a Maria and be done with this nonsense and the world would continue surviving as it has for over a thousand years (with the exception of Salem’s new involvement, but again, we don’t see Ruby deciding to fight because Salem is now a more active threat). Ruby is not at the center of the world’s safety and there is no other outside force acting on the group to a point where the audience feels that their involvement in the fight is unquestionably necessary. We might have gotten that if the story had spent more time developing Ruby’s silver eyes. We might have gotten that if the story had spent more time establishing that if Ruby were to bow out, she and her friends would still be endlessly hunted by Salem (AKA, if she wants any kind of life, Salem has to be defeated first). We might have gotten that if the silver eyes/other talents were presented as lynchpins, etc. As it is, RWBY keeps providing examples of how heroes can leave, do leave, have every reason to leave, because they’re not the most talented, their powers are not unique, not necessary, there is nothing in the universe saying YOU have to be a part of this fight... so why are they?
This leaves us with heroes who fight because it’s the right thing to do. Think Frodo saying he’ll take the ring to Mordor. Katniss stepping in to save her sister. Peter Quill yelling that he’s going to try to save the universe because he’s one of the assholes who lives in it. There’s nothing like destiny, a prophecy, or an inborn talent forcing (“forcing”) the hero to step up, they just do it because it’s the right thing to do and/or they realize that no one is able or willing to help. They and others might both assume they’re not be the best for the job (insert theme of underestimating Hobbits here), but they’re doing it anyway. They’re all that’s available.
Similar to the above, Ruby could fit really well into this setup. She’s just a kid, she’s talented but she’s barely trained, she knows nothing about magic or this intricate war... surely there’s someone better to take her place? But Ruby wants to help people, which means she’s poised to step up if that’s required of her... but RWBY failed to create those circumstances. Ozpin is not an inept or corrupt leader who she must replace — he created a time of peace and kept the relics safe for who knows how long. Ruby does not live in a world where others refuse to step up — she’s surrounded by talented fighters who are already involved in this war. Ruby doesn’t even live in a world where she fights alongside these more talented and informed fighters — by the end of each volume she’s replaced them as the “real” hero. When someone asks, “Why is the screw up group of convicts trying to save the world in Guardians of the Galaxy?” the answer is, “Because no one else is doing it. The world has to take what it gets.” With RWBY it’s, “Why is the group of second year students, traumatized from a recent battle, going off to find a Maiden they definitely can’t beat?” and the answer is, “Because... they want to? There are other older, more powerful, more informed people dealing with this situation already but Ruby’s group is going off regardless.” “Why is RWBYJNR at the center of this fight now? Have they proven themselves some way? Is there no one else?” “Well no, not exactly. They just showed up at Ozpin’s safehouse expecting to be involved, they definitely provided much needed support at the Haven battle, but then they created circumstances where they were at the center of things regardless of whether others approved of that: stealing Ozpin’s secrets, driving him off, lying to Ironwood, etc.” Then, because the story hasn’t successfully laid out why they have to fight or why others would want them to fight (they often don’t), we get the plot turning in on itself to explain their continued involvement. Like refusing to grapple with their recent behavior. Or having them suddenly able to beat the Ace Ops.
RWBY’s underlying reasoning for why this group is at the center of this plot is “Because they’re the protagonists” which is a circular explanation. You should craft protagonists that have a reason to be involved, not ignore the lack of a reason for the generic protagonists you’ve got. And don’t get me wrong, RWBY has lots and lots of nods towards various reasons, but they’re never well developed. Things like Ruby’s eyes, her “I want to help people,” the others’ devotion to her, the villains’ interest in them... they’re all the beginnings of compelling explanations, but RWBY never does much of anything with it, largely because we haven’t gotten enough of a look into the group’s personal motivations. Why is Ruby so compelled to throw herself into a war? Because of her mom? That’s never said. Why is Jaune? Because Cinder killed Pyrrha? Then why isn’t he trying to hunt her down? Why is Yang? Because she’s Ruby’s sister? Give us better motivation for Ruby then. And so on and so forth. This is particularly important post the lore episode because the group learned about Salem’s immortality and came to the unanimous conclusion that this war was impossible to win. So why are you still in it?? Volume 6 and 7 should have been an exploration of why they’re fighting, what they’re fighting for, and what they can bring to the table. Instead they happily ignore all of it until Salem and her subordinates get right in their face, then Ruby took control of the situation despite the story failing to establish why she wants to, let alone why she should.
When we have characters like Ironwood and the Ace Ops trying to stop her and the takeaway is supposed to be “Omg how could they stand against Ruby they’re evil!” ... I just find myself agreeing. Ruby is a teenager. Ruby has one year of formal training. Ruby has thus far rejected or screwed over everyone she’s allied herself with (outside of the group who has agreed to follow her). Ruby has a very useful skill, but does incredibly little to learn about it or train it. Regarding the question, “Should Ruby be the hero we follow?” we’re shown a number of things that give a resounding “No.” She’s the protagonist because her name is in the title, not RWBY has convincingly written a world where her help is necessary or, at this point, even desired. She runs off to nearly get kidnapped, orchestrates an attack on the Argus military that results in a Leviathan grimm showing up, emotionally cripples the world’s oldest defender, undermines and betrays his replacement, and is now risking two relics/a Maiden by hanging around to fight Salem head on. At this point it doesn’t matter how pure her intentions are, Ruby’s actions have been inconvenient at best and downright damaging at worst. Though they clearly don’t intend it, RT is closer to writing antagonists then protagonists. Outside of their pure “We want to help people” outlook, we’ve got this group shouldering their way into this war and, more often than not, making things a whole lot worse. If the story had done a better job of explaining their involvement, such mistakes would be quiet sympathetic, but as it is their insistence on getting involved reads more as arrogance rather than resignation/drive: I have to help. There’s no one else. I’m needed.

I have very long, complex dreams as anyone who's read my journal before knows. I dream in novels/full-fledged series. (I also have a lot of dreams staring a transgender character.)
So, background information first.  It was AU-Gundamverse, only without any actual Gundams.  The colonies in this functioned more like planets in, say, Star Trek or Firefly, in that they are each run by independent governments only loosely united through a ‘federation’ of sorts.  Some colonies are tied very closely, others barely if at all.

L2 in this case is a fringe colony with little to no Federation-influence.  It has a strict caste system in place, with a rich elite class at the top and casteless ‘untouchables’ at the very bottom (street people basically).  The casteless are barely considered people, have pretty much no rights, can be used as slaves by the elites, aren’t allowed to hold legal jobs, enter certain areas, etc.   (Think DragonAge casteless dwarves.)  Right below the elite caste is the military, which is also pretty much the only way someone can advance their caste.  Any caste can enlist in the military, except casteless of course.

(The Federation maintains trade relations with L2 despite not agreeing morally with their whole thing.  People from the Federation can travel and do business but must abide by the rules of the colony.  This ties in later.)

Okay, back to the military.  This isn’t like a modern military set-up but more like SPARTA.  Children can be enlisted as young as 10 and as late as 13, and some begin training at home even younger.  Enlistees attend a central academy for five years where they live, study, and train until they ‘graduate’ as full-fledged soldiers, anywhere between age 15-18.  Training is very strict and regimented, but the majority of low-middle caste families have children enlisted because again, it’s like the only way to advance.  The military is controlled by the elite caste, but not many elites enroll.  Those that do are highly respected, however.  Within the military, things are pretty much egalitarian/achievement-based.  Males and females train together and have the same standards, although they do have separate sleeping and showing quarters.  During their time at the academy, trainees are forbidden to leave except for being released to their family at holidays, and only then if the family requests it.  Post-graduation, all soldiers are enrolled for life or until injured past ability to serve.  They serve as police force, quash rebellion, and have the potential to combat wars in the colony’s defense, although it’s been a generation or two since that’s been necessary.

The reward?  Status, pay, and basically the ability to do anything you want to anyone lower than an elite.  In fact, at the Academy, there is a ‘Game Room’ staffed with lower caste ‘employees’, open for use by both trainers, soldiers, and trainees in good standing.  Think light stuff like food and entertainment, but also things like gambling, porn, and prostitution.

Okay, so character stuff.  Duo starts out more or less the same: an orphan on the streets of L2.  This means he’s casteless.  Solo cares for him, before dying of the plague.  Duo survives and is taken in by the Maxwell Orphanage, which is run by volunteers from the Federation to care for casteless children.  This is border-line following the colony’s rules so while it’s allowed by L2, they don’t have support from the Federation government.  This means that when rebels shelter there, and the military destroys the orphanage, the Federation can’t really do anything except pass some pretty ineffective sanctions.  Same as the original, Duo survives.  He’s caught at the ruins, having stolen military weapons (his canon) to get the rebels to leave, and when the military attempts to capture them, he attacks them and does pretty damn well for a kid.  The commander grabs Duo and notes that the kid has no fear of death and no computation about killing and decides on a whim to make Duo his new pet project.

The commander is also an elite and concerned to be a little eccentric but brilliant and effective, and he’s able to use his influence to get his way.  There’s no actual LAW about casteless not being allowed to enlist, just custom.  He overrides everyone’s protests and forcibly enlists Duo in the academy.  Duo HATES it and tries to get away numerous times but is well and stuck.  He’s also brilliant at it, so despite all protests, he continues as head of his class for years.

So, some complicated stuff in the mix here.  When the commander – we’ll call him Commander G… He’s not G, but maybe like his son (but, you know, handsome)?  When Commander G gets Duo back to the academy and scrubbed up clean (they let him keep his hair… it’s anime military, all in uniform but crazy hair everywhere), it turns out Duo is a GIRL.  More accurately, Duo is biologically female but has never identified ‘herself’ as such, which Solo, Sister Helen, and Father Maxwell were always very accepting about, so ‘she’ hasn’t really had to deal with too much.  Despite the caste system, L2 is pretty loose about homosexuality and gender equality.  So, actual gender identity isn’t a huge deal in society, but it obviously for Duo, who at age 10/11 is suddenly bunked up with a bunch of women and not able to quite put his finger on why he feels so uncomfortable with that.  ‘She’ also hasn’t hit puberty yet (childhood malnutrition + the extensive training at the Academy = delayed puberty and a lot of female trainees never getting their period), so dysmorphia hasn’t quite become a thing yet.  In addition, at the start, the casteless thing is a bigger deal.  Despite the military being pretty much egalitarian, a lot of that develops the longer trainees are together, plus casteless is not just low, but pretty much untouchable.  Like, no one wants to sit near Duo, or be on ‘her’ team for assignment, she has to bunk on her own way over in a corner, etc.

Eventually, this starts to improve a little.  Duo still passionately hates being forced into the military that slaughtered ‘her’ family but knows the skills will be useful and is basically just biding ‘her’ time.  But like I said, Duo is brilliant when it comes to training.  ‘She’ still keeps to herself mostly but eventually a group of other trainees take Duo with them to the Game room, half as a joke on the misfit.  Duo eventually becomes sexually active and Does Not Like.  To clarify – Duo is bisexual and capable of enjoying sexual activity but at this point is starting to develop so the body dysmorphia is coming into play.  He starts to become more aware that his body doesn’t match his identity and starts to have issues with this that affect his training.  THIS grabs Commander G’s attention who’s been keeping a distant eye on his little pet project.  Duo obviously doesn’t trust anyone and isn’t about to talk about it, so Commander G pretty much gets to the bottom of it by raping Duo (not considered rape in L2 because remember, Duo is casteless and still effectively has no rights).

Next?  Now that Commander G knows the issue, he solves it.  He gets Duo top surgery and moves him to the male dorm.  Easy-peasy if you’re an elite and have endless wealth, resources, and rights.  He also basically promises to cover Duo’s full conversion so long as he behaves until graduation – ie. no more attempts to run away.  This leaves Duo basically beholden to the man he hates the most in the world.

Fast-forward to Duo’s last year at the academy.  He’s one of only a dozen students selected for an elite class, who after graduation will be L2’s version of special forces.  This is also the first-time piloting is involved, because the special forces gets all the aircraft.  Duo gets thrown into the pilot seat kinda accidentally in training and ROCKS.  He’s already excelled at stealth, hacking, assassination, infiltration, etc.  Piloting he’s better than his instructors and Commander G is super creepy proud.  He’s become a little obsessed as one may notice, as in his mind, Duo is a resource that he’s taken and developed into a very useful, deadly tool.  This is also the first time Duo actually starts to bond a bit with his other trainees.  They don’t quite become friends but the closest thing to it at this point.  This whole time though, he’s contriving a plan to escape on graduation day, knowing at that point security will be the lowest.  He gets his surgery along with a creepy speech from Commander G about how he’s been a successful gamble.   Graduation day, he hightails it out, knowing everyone is going to be occupied until it’s too late.

Of course, he’s still stuck on L2 and pretty much aware at this point Commander G at least is going to be after him.

Remember that bit about others being able to travel to L2?  Well, the circus has arrived!  Trowa’s circus in fact, which has travelled from L3.  The dream didn’t get too much into detail about backstory, but Quatre is with them and it’s kinda inferred the Winner Corp is funding the circus.  It’s also inferred that although the circus is real enough, Quatre and Trowa are also working together to travel around the Federation incognito to help people and look out for potential issues, which L2 is FULL of.  Duo runs into them and is prepping himself to get turned in and is shocked when they instead agree to help him (Trowa a bit more reluctantly/suspiciously than Quatre).

The dream pretty much ended with them helping to smuggle Duo off-planet using the circus as cover.  The rest was kind of like to “next time on such-and-such” preview.  We see Duo piloting a ship with Trowa and Quatre behind him, implying that he’s teamed up with them.  Heero is seen working on another ship with the implication they’ll be meeting up soon, and there’s the briefest glimpse of Wufei.  Back on L2, we see Commander G steaming and gathering the special forces graduates from Duo’s class who he ‘betrayed’ to go after him.  There’s some arguing about it between G and the L2 government which kind of foreshadows a military coup and the L2 military possibly declaring war against the Federation for ‘interference’.
And then I woke up, lol!

the ghostbusters + books
if print is dead, fiction doesn’t even EXIST anymore in egon’s world. even when he was a kid, he never read novels, as he couldn’t fathom why someone would want to spend time reading about something that wasn’t real. as an adult, most of his reading is made up of online transcripts of current academic journals, though he’s definitely not too immersed in tech to be above spending hours in the dusty library archives.
if he absolutely had to pick a fiction genre, it’d be speculative fiction, but only theoretically–in practice, he can’t stand the hand waved or otherwise entirely made up “scientific” methods employed in these novels.
the one exception he will make is for mary shelley’s frankenstein–the skipping over of the actual technique victor used to raise the dead irritates him, but he appreciates its place as a classical ode to human achievement past the realm of the morally sound, and besides, it played a heavy role in his decision to run a… not dissimilar experiment at NYU.
his parents, who discouraged all pleasure reading, punished him severely for the copy of the book he sneaked back to his room, and would later blame shelley for leading egon down the path that eventually took him to ghostbusting.
peter reads whatever’s popular–fiction and nonfiction bestsellers line his bookcase. he claims it’s because he’s more interested in knowing what draws the american public to the books than in the books themselves, and likes to concoct elaborate and negative conclusions to this effect… but maybe deep down, he just likes things that are popular. outside of that, peter also reads all the major psychology journals (when no one is around–he can’t let anyone know he takes this shit seriously) and, more gleefully, a wide array of harlequin romances.
between the job, night school, and, well, everything else, winston doesn’t have a lot of time to do fiction reading these days, but when he does get some downtime, he really enjoys a good mystery. this particularly extends to political thrillers and spy novels–he’s got a shelf of beat up favorites that he comes back to when he really needs to unwind.
as i see it, he doesn’t really have a favorite book so much as he has favorite authors; clive cussler is coming to mind.
ray actually feels the same way as egon does re: speculative fiction, but unlike egon, he’s more than alright with other genres. in particular, ray loves fantasy, the wilder the better–when he sits down to read a novel, he wants something completely detached from reality… not that it stops him from wanting to make real life that much more fantastic when it’s through.
the one exception to his aversion to scifi is star wars, which he loves implicitly (justifiable since it’s hardly scifi, anyway). he’s read every book in he extended universe, and has very concrete opinions on mara jade.
you know those bodice rippers i mentioned peter enjoying? those are janine’s favorites. shes unironically dreamed of herself as one of the heroines in the trashiest of her books since high school, and there’s nothing she longs for more than a muscular hunk to sweep her off her feet and into the sunset.
outside of that, janine is the most well-read of any of them in the fiction department–when she gets home at night, she enjoys curling up with a nice paperback from any genre and reading until her eyes droop closed.
i’ve talked about this before in a separate post, but i love the idea of janine and winston having a book club where they support each other through through dry, jargon-heavy tomes on parapsychology in an effort to play “catch up” and have a snowball’s chance in hell at understanding what the other three are talking about all the damn time.
when winston finally gets his PhD, janine pretends to be mad at him for “betraying their club,” but really, she was the one who often stuck around the firehouse with him, brewing coffee and reading her paperbacks while he poured over dense law textbooks, and she couldn’t be more proud.
i feel like, when he was a kid, books were a big coping mechanism for venkman. he spent a lot of time at the library just because it was free to be there and it wasn’t home, but with time this sparked a genuine love for reading that became his main form of escapism up through high school. even as an adult, he’ll sometimes lock himself in his apartment and fly through his to-read pile when he really needs to withdraw from himself.
back when they were in college, venkman had a running joke where he would describe the plot of a bad scifi novel to spengler as if it were the contents of a recent academic paper he read, just to get a good laugh out of his reaction. this escalated to the point of venkman actually fabricating a few of these so-called academic papers and spengler going so far as to write scathing responses with full intent to publish before ray finally stepped in and told him what was going on. peter had to hide out for a week to escape spengs’s wrath after that.
when he was a child, people who didn’t know egon (distant relatives, school peers forced by their parents to be nice to him despite a mutual distaste for one another, etc) would usually give him children’s books for birthdays or other special occasions, mistaking his academic disposition for bookishness. he never made an attempt to hide his displeasure with these gifts, and often used the pages as a part of some new science experiment.
think “paper mache baking soda volcano on crack,” and that’s what happened to a copy of charlie and the chocolate factory gifted to him by a well meaning great aunt.
the first job ray ever really saw for himself was becoming an author, a path that always sort of lingered at the back of his mind. opening ray’s occult was definitely tied to his lifelong fondness for books, but the real kicker came years later, when he published a successful young adult series drawing on his parapsychological knowledge after retiring from ghostbusters.
if you asked him, peter would list freud’s the interpretation of dreams as his favorite book. in reality, it’s jane eyre–don’t ask.
when janine was in high school, she spent many nights kicked back in the backseat of a friend’s car, reading a trashy paperback bought at a gas station while the others in her group got into more delinquent activities. even when they were skipping school or going road tripping, she always had a book for the ride. (looking back, she considers these nights some of the best of her life.)
winston has a great voice for reading out loud. some of his fondest memories of growing up were his mother tucking him into bed and reading him whatever she felt like: kid’s books, adult books, passages from her devotionals and from the bible. this became a tradition he passed on to his younger siblings, and looks forward to sharing with his own kids.
cliched though it might be, ray’s favorite book series is lord of the rings. (he was always especially interested in frodo and sam’s relationship… for no reason in particular, of course.) he amends this by clarifying that while there are fantasy series he likes more, he feels that lotr built the house the later authors were just living in, and he has to pay his dues.
of all the ghostbusters, though peter has been threatening to do it nearly constantly since world of the psychic got greenlit, janine is the one who ends up publishing a memoir about her time with the company. they all read it, and everyone is honestly blown away by how talented she is at writing, a skill they never really knew she possessed. janine takes this all in stride, but secretly, hearing their compliments means even more to her than the acclaim she’s receiving for the work :’)

Holy shit, alright.
So, first off, hi. I’ve been having a tough few days because of various reasons that I may or may not get into in this post. I’ve been bottling up all of my feelings for too long and writing things down has always been easier for me than talking about them. Basically, this is me spilling a lot of my secrets so I can get them out of my head. I’m sorry if this isn’t what you expected or wanted from me, please skip this if you’re not okay with a post like this.
TW//: Talk of anxiety and depression, mental and emotion manipulation(?), mentions of death and suicide, and just dark shit in general. Proceed with a lot of caution.
Hello. My name is Malachi. That’s not my birth name but it is the name I choose to go by. I am a non-binary African American person that is trying their absolute best in the life I was given. Admittedly, I’m not fairing very well but I continue to try everyday.
I come from a fairly large family. 8 siblings in total, 1 on my moms side and 7 on my dads. My mom and dad never married, they broke up when I was five years old, and when my dad moved out, I stayed living with my mom. My mom is bipolar and manic depressant and my older sister, my moms daughter, was a spoiled brat until I was born. From very early on, my sister would constantly tell me that I ruined her life, that she wished I was never born, that she hated me, etc. Unfortunately for me, my mom wanted me and my sister to get along so I was always around her. She would read books to me and have me around all the time. Because of this, I’m pretty sure anyway, I grew up to be very gifted. I entered kindergarten a year early, and all of my school life felt easy. I was never challenged. Even the gifted classes I was out in were hardly anything to me. Now, I know this sounds like I’m bragging, but I take no pride in these words or my talents. I’ll tell you why later.
Growing up was surprisingly difficult for me. My mom was struggling to support both of us so we moved house a lot. We moved into our grandma’s house at one point. That was when it was the worst. My sister would constantly tell on me, but when I turned the tables on her, she’d beg me not to. She’d promise that she’d ever tell on me again, and then turned around and threw away said promise as soon as I let it go. I was the “problematic” child. My sister berated me constantly, telling me that I was bad at dancing and singing, which is still one of my passions to this day. It stuck with me. Everything does.
Fastforward to middle school. I had spent the last few years of my life with a less than agreeable sister and a difficult to approach mother. I’ll get into my father’s deal in a little bit. Elementary school hadn't been good either. I was at a higher level than lost of people, so I would occupy my free time with books. PE and outside activities never intrigued me as much as most kids, and so I was then deemed the class outcast all the way until about 7th grade. Up until 5th, I trusted others way too easily. Someone could walk up to me, tell me their name and say they wanted to be friends and within a week I'd be telling them all my secrets and family troubles. It was stupid really, but no one taught me any different. I was betrayed a lot, and everyone in our grade knew things about me that I'm embarrassed to admit. It was heartbreaking to 5th grade me. Why was everyone so mean?
I was always more of a tomboy, even as a child. The girls were too "girly" for me and the boys didn't converse with girls so I was, again, alone.
By the time I got to 6th grade, I had already adapted a system. Go to school, do well, read in your free time, go home. No friends, no acquaintances, nothing. It was how I kept my heart safe. And it worked for a while. Luckily, I moved schools when I came up with the system, so no one was too keen on approaching me in the first place. Then, 7th grade came around. And holy god, was it horrible. For some reason, I made a friend. Now, she was nice. Very nice. We bonded over Undertale, she was great. We're still friends to this day. But I kept her at arms length, cause I had just broken the system. That wasn't apart of the plan. Even worse, I made two more friends. And worse than that, I developed my first ever crush on someone. All of my plans were failing, my walls were crumbling. But when these walls fell, my heart grew weaker still, cause having friends isn't as great as it should be. Especially in middle school.
Our small group was riddled with mental illnesses, and we'd joke about wanting to die at least twice a day. It was how we coped, even though none of us made any effort to get better. It wasn't the best, but 8th grade was somehow worse.
Our group split right down the middle. Half of the group wanted nothing to do with the other half. And I was stuck in the middle. I liked everyone, they were all my friends. How could I possibly choose between them?
And then, as if things couldn't get worse, one of my closest friends in that group called me out. Apparently, I had become so dependent on them, on her, that I was becoming "too outgoing" and annoying, and she stopped responding to me. I had let her inside my walls and she still hurt me deeper than anyone else. I apologized profusely. I had gotten so used to not being a bother that losing her trust was one of my worst fears. It scarred me. I spent days sulking, just wanting to properly apologize to her. I wanted to hear from her, I needed to. Eventually she forgave me, but the damage had been done. That was when I had come up with a new idea. Another system. I didn't execute it, but the idea sprouted in the back of my mind.
8th grade was the year of my first panic attack. It was dumb, really. I woke up, got ready for school, and realized there was an assignment I forgot to do that was due later that day. I had had a perfect record. My homework was never late, and it terrified me to no end to think that my streak would end like that. I sat against the wall of my bedroom, covering my mouth and hoping that I was crying quietly, so I wouldn't wake my dad. No one to help me, no one to ground me. I was spiraling for too long. The only thing that snapped me out of it was myself. I had to go to school or I'd be late, that was how I got myself out of that darkness. Pathetic, I know.
High school was a different battle field in and of itself. Sophomore, Junior and Senior year were pretty good, so I'll only talk about Freshman year.
I was very scared of high school. All the middle school teachers said high school teachers were ruthless, mean and impatient. They kicked people out of class, out of the whole school. School had been easy but high school was different. The mere mention of it made me nervous. Oh yeah, I haven't mentioned it before, but I have pretty bad anxiety. It's primarily social anxiety, but it gets bad at the worst possible times. I think I might have depression but I'm too scared to bring it up with my therapist, so that'll probably stay unsolved.
Freshman year wasn't very bad. It wasn't worse than 8th grade at least. What really got me was the workload. Self discipline, time management, all the mature people things that I had to learn. It made my anxiety skyrocket. I would be finishing assignments during lunch, mere hours before they were due. I was a rightful mess, on all accounts.
I had a big fallout with my dad, and that just made all of my problems worse. I'll get into that another time, seeing as this post is already too long.
Finishing high school was a breeze compared to earlier years. I made a small group of friends, many of which are onto bigger adventures in life. I haven't started college yet, but I haven't talked about what it is that I really wanted to talk about. The thing that's really been on my mind.
I'm nobody. I'm not just a nobody. I'm nobody. I honestly don't know who I am. My entire life, I had forfeited finding myself in favor of catering to others. I relinquished my personal freedom to make others life easier. I listened to everything my parents told me to do. No question, no complaints. I bend and broke myself to make my sister happy. I gave her so much of myself that I didn't have any left for me, yet she's still not happy with me. My friends don't know who I am. My mind is constantly thinking, I'm constantly drowning in dark thoughts and harmful words but they don't know. I hide it from them, I hid everything from them. I told them not to worry about it. And eventually, they did. It hurt. It stung. But it was my fault entirely.
My dad called me a robot once. I followed orders with feeling or hesitance. He was right. My constant thought process is all of my responsibilities. All of the things I need to do for someone else. Taking a break is impossible. Mt family needs me to function properly so they can live freely and without regret. I can't do that.
I can't eat what I want without making my mom angry in some way. I can't say or do or buy or receive anything without getting into an argument with my sister about how I'm somehow the spoiled one. Hell, I take a nap for too long and my mom gets upset at me. My dad is another ball game all on his own, so I won't talk about him right now.
What I'm trying to say it that my life isn't mine. My life is spent caring for others. Listening to other people over myself.
I'm horrible at taking compliments. I brush them off, deny them, pretty much anything other than saying thank you. It's not that I'm not grateful. I'm just tired of them. I've been showered with praise all my life, but it's bittersweet when you're taken advantage of every day. Taken for granted endlessly. They start to fade together.
Generic, everyday praise infuriates me to the highest level. Don't you dare say that cookie cutter bullshit to me. You think I haven't heard "oh you're so smart" before?? You think I haven't heard "you're beautiful" before??? I understand that you're just trying to be nice, but fuck off with that run of the mill fuckery.
Compliment me
How about you say, thank you for trying so hard for us?
Or, I see you helping out. I appreciate it.
Or, god forbid, you cab relax for once, I can take care of it.
Because god knows that I need a fucking break sometimes!
Oh, take a day off? Unless you want to come over here and handle my 101 responsibilities for this day alone, I suggest you shut that shit up right now.
Telling to take it easy doesn't fix the fucking problem.
One thing I know I do have are some major anger issues. That's not easily solved. None of my problems are.
At this point, I feel like I am my problems. Without my anxiety and my anger, who am I?
Who would I be?
Would I be better? Worse? Who would I have become?
I don't want help because help would change me. Help would get rid of me.
Whoever that me may be.

Chapter 7
Part 6
Ayra was assigned the role of finding Brigid. One of the pirates led her around the places he believed they may find her, and they called out for her.
“Brigid! I’m not your enemy! I just want to talk. If you’re here, then please come out.”
She received no response on the first day, and returned to the castle in the evening.
The next morning, they set out for a rocky mountain to the west of the castle.
This time, when Ayra called out for Brigid, a response came right away.
“Who are you!?”
Ayra turned towards the voice, and responded, “I am Princess Ayra of Isaach, currently serving as a member of Prince Sigurd of Chalphy’s army.”
“Why is an Isaachian princess working with the Grannvalian Army!?”
“I’m not with the Grannvalian Army. They currently oppose Sigurd’s army.”
“Why is that?”
“I’ll explain everything, so please come out. I’ll put down my sword to prove that I am not your enemy.” Ayra detached her Brave Sword from her belt and set it down atop a rock.
“Alright. I’m coming out.” A female pirate appeared from the shadows of one of the boulders.
‘I knew it! She’s the same pirate I saw on that ship while traveling to Augustria!’ Ayra thought.
A man holding an axe followed behind her.
Once Brigid was close to Ayra, she was surprised to see that Brigid looked exactly like Aideen. But she paid that no mind, and explained everything that had happened, from the attack on Darna to Sigurd’s army’s capture of Orgahill Castle. “When Prince Sigurd heard about you from your crew, he knew right away that he wanted you to join his army. You can trust him. Please meet with him at least once.”
“I believe you, Princess Ayra, but people often use others as a part of their tricks. They send out an honest person, use that person to gain their target’s trust, then suddenly capture their target. Many pirate captains have lost their lives that way.”
“But Sigurd was understanding, even when he first met my nephew…”
“It’s fine. I didn’t tell you I wouldn’t comply. You’ve piqued my curiosity, so I’ll go. Is that okay? Even if something happens, I won’t hold a grudge against you. Just don’t panic if something bad happens. I was thinking about scrubbing myself clean of the pirate life soon anyway.”
-
Ayra led Brigid and Bailey quickly back down to the castle. When Sigurd heard word of their arrival, he went down to the entrance of the main building and greeted them.
Brigid’s similarities to Aideen also shocked Sigurd, so much so that he couldn’t speak for a moment.
“What are you so surprised about? Is my face that strange to you?”
“No, it isn’t. Please excuse my rudeness. I am Prince Sigurd of Chalphy. I’m happy you’re safe, Brigid.”
“So you’re Sigurd, huh? I believed what Ayra told me, so I came here. I’m more than ready. If you’re going to kill me, then hurry up and do it already.”
“Huh? This is all a misunderstanding. You may be a pirate, but you assure that the seas are safe to travel, so you haven’t done anything wrong, right?’
“That’s how I’ve always led my crew. But they mutinied. If you’re going to punish me for their crimes, then I’ll accept it. I only ask you to spare Bailey, the man who came with me.”
“No, I want you to lend me your strength! Will you join my army? I’m sure Ayra told you the details. To be honest, we’re in a really difficult spot right now. I won’t force you to do anything. But before you go anywhere, I want you to see what it’s like in our army. If you like it, then please join us.”
“Would they welcome a pirate captain like me?”
“Yes, they’d love to have you.”
‘What a strange man.’ Brigid thought.
But it wasn’t a bad thing. Plus, she was curious to see what kind of people Sigurd had with him.
They went to the coast, and Brigid crossed paths with her old crew. They all seemed to be happily working. In the blink of an eye, Sigurd had changed them completely. Brigid wondered just what this power of his was.
Then, they crossed paths with an arch knight, who called out to Brigid, “Lady Aideen!”
But after he said that, he made a strange face.
“What was that about? I don’t know you.”
“So you aren’t Lady Aideen… But that would mean…”
“You’re weird. What are you mumbling about?”
“What is your name?”
“Brigid. And you?”
“Brigid… What a beautiful woman you are…”
“W-Why would you say that when you haven’t even told me your name yet? If you’re making fun of me, then I won’t allow it.”
“Oh, excuse me. I apologize. My name is Midir. I was previously a knight of Jungby. It’s nice to meet you!”
“So your name is Midir, huh? I’ll remember that. I’m leaving now, so… bye…”
He didn’t say anything, so Brigid walked away.
He was in a trance as he watched her walk away. “I can’t believe it… she’s even more beautiful than her…”
-
After circling the coast, Brigid returned to the castle.
When the gate raised before her, she saw a woman holding a bow and running towards her.
It was Aideen.
Aideen had heard about Brigid from Sigurd, and rushed out of the castle in a panic. She had the same name, the same face, and could wield a bow - all the signs pointed to this woman being her lost twin sister.
And the moment Aideen saw Brigid, she knew it was true. “It’s you… it really is you, my sister! My twin sister Brigid! It’s me, Aideen! Please, you must remember me!”
Brigid was shocked to see someone with the same face as her. “Aideen… Aideen...” As she repeated the name, she was more and more sure that she’d heard it before.
“I’m your younger twin! Father took us on his pilgrimage to the Bragi Tower when we were four. We quickly got bored inside of the tower, so we went out to the beach. You were a brave tomboy, so you climbed aboard a small boat on shore. Then, when the tide came in, you were washed away into the sea! I didn’t know what to do, so I just panicked. When father finally noticed we were missing and called for us, neither of us could see the boat anymore.”
“Of course! Then, as I was told, the captain found me on the boat, and took me in!”
“Yes! Everything matches up perfectly! And you have a mark on the back of your right hand too, don’t you?”
“Now that you mention it, yes, I do! It appeared suddenly when I was fifteen!” Brigid said, and showed the back of her hand to Aideen. On it was a blue triangular mark that looked like an arrowhead.
“This is all the proof we need! That is the Holy Mark that appears on all of Crusader Ulir’s successors. And this is his bow, Yewfelle. Please see if you can draw the string.”
When Aideen handed the bow over to her, Brigid could tell that it was indeed very powerful. She’d never seen a bow so beautiful in all of her life.
She took it in her hands and tried to draw the string. In that moment, she felt power flow through her veins. “Th-This is… such a strange power…” Her chest became warm, and all of her memories came flooding back to her.
She remembered the form of her younger sister, crying and screaming her name from the shore… and how that sister became more and more distant as she drifted away...
“I remember you! Aideen! You’re Aideen, my sister!”
-
The next day, the Grannvalian Army’s vanguard reached Madino.
While that unit was small, the next day, a large unit of cavalry arrived, and three days later, an infantry unit made it to Madino.
According to Erinys’ report, the Grannvalian Army was obtaining boats from the coastal towns.
Sigurd held a meeting to discuss what they would do next.
“At the very least, if the Grannvalian Army is coming with rowboats and fishing boats, then that’s not a problem, because we have three pirate ships. But they might also send a proper navy. I don’t think we’ll have a chance against war ships. We still have a lot of time before that would happen, but I think we should consider now what we’d do once it did happen.” Oifey started the meeting off by explaining the situation, as he usually did.
“So what do you think, Oifey?”
“No good ideas have come to me.”
“Are we really stuck in such a bad situation that even our prodigy strategist can’t come up with any ideas?” Lex asked.
“All I can think of, is to get everyone on the ships and out of Orgahill before the Grannvalian Army shows up…”
“So are you saying we’ll become pirates, then? Great idea!” Lewyn said, then burst out laughing. About half of the other people in the room joined in.
Just then, a soldier burst in and announced that a messenger had arrived, sent by Queen Rahna of Silesse.
He then guided the messenger into the room, who was none other than Erinys’ elder sister.
“Prince Sigurd, my name is Mahnya. I am a knight of Silesse. I have come on Queen Rahna’s behalf to deliver a message to you.”
“Thank you for coming all this way. Please tell me what it is immediately.”
“Yes, sir. Queen Rahna wishes to say that you and your army may retreat from Madino and wait in Silesse until your name is cleared.”
The proposal was so close to Oifey’s desperate measure, that it caused a small commotion to break out in the room.
“Queen Rahna of Silesse wants to help me, a man who’s been betrayed by his own country?”
“That is correct. She would be happy to have you. Silesse is not only a remote country, but a nation that has never once allowed another country to invade since it was founded. You will be safe.”
“I see. So what do you think, everyone?”
Everyone he asked agreed to the proposal.
The last person he had to talk to was Lewyn.
“Silesse is my home country, so I’ll refrain from giving an opinion. But every country is the same, really. They have their good and bad points. Silesse has cold winters, for example. But if I had to pick between becoming a pirate and going to Silesse, I would pick Silesse, no question.” Lewyn’s words settled the issue.
The next day, Sigurd’s army divided into three groups, boarded the pirate ships, and left Orgahill.
Mahnya and her unit of pegasus knights flew the skies above them and served as their guard on their journey.

Ophelia: Ophelia [ISFP]
OFFICIAL TYPING by Charity / the Mod *SPOILERS*
Functional Order: Fi-Se-Ni-Fe
Tumblr media
Judging Functional Axis:
Introverted Feeling (Fi) / Extroverted Thinking (Te)
Ophelia instinctively knows who she is, how she feels about everything, and what she wants out of her life, and when Hamlet refuses to let go of his desire for revenge… she walks away from him. She continues to be true to herself, even when the other girls judge her for it – going for swims in the river, wandering the woods, etc., and it is this independent spirit that draws the queen’s attention to her. Ophelia refuses to become a plaything for Hamlet, and insists upon marriage before she will lie with him. She can be blunt and authoritative when pushed – asserting herself strongly and refusing to back down, but also intensely private about her personal life. When her life is threatened, Ophelia takes a rational approach to saving herself – using an idea she learned from someone else to save her life.
Tumblr media
Perceiving Functional Axis:
Extroverted Sensing (Se) / Introverted Intuition (Ni)
She loves to immerse herself in nature, and would far more rather be having fun in the woods than stuck indoors. She notices and touches things inside the witch’s cabin in the woods, prompting the woman to share her secrets with her. Ophelia is highly observant, and misses very little in her environment – she sees the queen kissing her brother-in-law through a window, she explores the ramparts hoping not to find them there, she recognizes a cloak she glimpsed in the woods. She physically intervenes to keep another girl from rape, and threatens to douse a man with hot water if he tries a similar tactic with her. Ophelia also shows strong flits of Ni insight, such as when she figures out, with no evidence to support it, that Claudius betrayed his lover and set the villagers against them. She tests him to determine if this is true.
Tumblr media
Hogwarts House: Gryffindor
Values: daring, nerve, and chivalry.
A tomboy at heart, Ophelia “smells of the woods.” Of dirt, and the river, and outdoorsy things, because that’s where she belongs. She is courageous in how she stages her own death, risking dying for real in the process. She has the courage to intervene and face down a group of men who are messing with a servant girl. She also walks away from the man she loves, when she sees he is a hopeless cause, and forges her own life elsewhere.
Tumblr media
Enneagram: 4w5 sp/sx
Tritype: 459 The Contemplative [4w5 5w4 9w8]
Ophelia knows her own mind and stays true to who she is, even with outside pressures to conform. She knows how she feels about Hamlet, she knows how she feels about his choice to pursue vengeance instead of a life with her, and she lives by that truth, walking out on him and forging her own life without ever looking back. Her 5 wing and fix makes her very secretive about her true feelings and the life she leads with Hamlet. Being sp first, she resists her sx attraction to Hamlet for a time, until it feels right and safe. Her 9 manages to remain calm most of the time, even when in an intense situation. She has a compliant nature that is ambiguous in its responses (she is often vague and noncommittal) but that erupts into physical aggression and/or anger when provoked (such as when she threatens a handmaiden with physical harm, unless she tells Ophelia what has become of Hamlet).

Little Monsters
(A few days early, but Happy Father’s Day!)
Jaune stared blearily at the nightstand from his pillow, the alarm clock blinding him with its unreadable green blur. He shut his eyes against the glare and tried to go back to sleep.
The storm must have woken him. What had started as a steady shower the night before had grown into a full blown tempest, rattling the walls in its intensity. Rain lashed the windows as the winds howled around the house in an eerie moan.
Jaune squirmed as he tried to find the right position to fall back asleep. He could feel Ruby behind him, her backside pressed against his, completely unphased by the storm. Out on the road she could be awake minutes before trouble even arrived, often before he noticed it himself despite being the one on watch. Get her home, though, and she might as well be dead to the world with how soundly she slept.
Just as he was drifting off a booming peal of thunder rocked the house, jolting him back awake. And while the thunder had kept him from nodding off, it was the hand grasping his foot that made him open his eyes.
Something hovered near the end of the bed. Two things. The smaller one held his foot with a clawed hand, shaking it insistently. Was it waiting for him to respond before it struck? The larger of the two stood just beyond, its gaunt, skeletal figure slightly hunched over as it stared blankly ahead. Both were cloaked in shadow, their nightmarish features obscured by the dark.
The smaller creature finally noticed that he was awake and turned its head to meet his gaze. Jaune lay frozen as the thing removed its claw from his foot. Its mouth opened and thunder spoke for it, a thundering boom that shook the world around them.
Jerking suddenly forward, the monster made its way further up the bed. Jaune’s eyes followed it silently, still paralyzed. He realized then that it was actually a single thing, some fused abomination like the Nuckelavee - an Imp led, pulling a lanky Apathy behind. They were joined by a tentacle, a sort of umbilical cord that linked the two Grimm together. The Imp moved in bursts, jerking forward suddenly and having to stop as its counterpart stumbled to catch up. The Apathy’s baleful aura kept him rooted and unable to defend himself as the monstrosity came to a stop near his head.
He wanted to scream but his dry mouth betrayed him as the monster slowly reached forward. The small, malformed claw found his shoulder and squeezed, sharp claws digging into his flesh. It leaned forward until it was just in front of his face. He could feel its hot breath on his cheek as it drank in his fear.
Heart hammering, he tried to move, to lash out. He needed to warn his wife, protect his chil-
The thing shook him roughly by the shoulder as it hissed. “Daddy!”
-dren. The anxious blue eyes of his son bored into his own as the fog of sleep finally lifted.
Jaune propped himself up on an elbow and rubbed the sleep from one eye as the boy withdrew a step. His hair was as wild as his eyes, the thick mop of red hair sticking out in every direction imaginable. He still clutched his big sister’s hand as the taller girl wobbled on her feet, eyes closed, with some of her long blonde hair stuck to the corner of her mouth with drool. His son wore mismatched pajamas (the twins always swapped their tops for bedtime if left to dress themselves, for whatever reason) while his eldest daughter wore one of Ruby’s t-shirts like a sleeping gown.
“What’s the matter, Qrow?”
“Tummy hurts,” the boy fibbed, falling back on his favorite excuse. He used his free hand to hold his stomach for effect. Another crack of thunder caused the boy to jump, readily exposing his true aim.
“How about you, Prim?”
“Moral support,” she said through a huge yawn, eyes still shut. Jaune snorted at that.
“Where’s your evil half?” he asked his son. Where one twin went the other usually followed.
“Being a butt.”
Hogging the dog again, Jaune thought sleepily. The twins switched off getting to sleep with Drei each night and apparently Summer wasn’t about to give up her turn.
Jaune knew how this song and dance went – do you need medicine, did you poop, etc. etc. – but he could already imagine every excuse and couldn’t be bothered to abandon his warm bed. He laid his head back down and lifted the cover for his son to climb in.
“Come on, then.”
Qrow surged forward, ignoring the spot offered to clamber over him instead. Jaune grunted with each blow struck as an elbow speared his liver and a knee pounded his ribs. His back was thoroughly pummeled as the boy tried to dig his way down in between his parents.
“Mom,” the boy whined. “Quit being a butt!”
After a minute of struggle, Jaune could feel that his son had managed to wiggle down under the covers but wasn’t able to get thoroughly sandwiched how he liked. He continued to thrash as he tried to squeeze in before Ruby, finally roused from the rough treatment, turned over. She mumbled something unintelligibly as she sleep-wrangled her son in a tight hug. They eventually settled, Qrow’s small form pressed up against Jaune’s back as Ruby sandwiched him in.
Jaune let out a tired sigh. “G’night bud.”
“Night,” the boy replied, yawning fitfully into Jaune’s back before going still.
Thunder boomed again yet Qrow didn’t so much as twitch. Neither did Primrose, who still stood sleeping on her feet next to the bed.
“Prim?” Jaune asked.
No response. She swayed slowly back and forth, ready to fall over at any moment. The only way she was making it back to her own bed was if he carried her.
“Sunshine?” he asked again.
“Mm,” she mumbled, still tottering.
“C’mere.”
He lifted the blanket again. Primrose practically collapsed into bed and curled up against his chest. She was out instantly.
After some maneuvering he was able to get her pulled fully under the covers and his pillow under her head. With the sliver of pillow left to him, Jaune rested his chin on his daughter’s head and settled down to go back to sleep.
Tomorrow he’d probably wake up to an irate three-year-old jumping on him as punishment for not inviting her to the “slumber party” while an equally energetic Corgi runs sprints across the mattress. They’d crawl out of bed, watch their Saturday morning cartoons with big bowls of cereal, and plan their day. If the rain let up he’d play in the mud with the twins while Ruby and Prim hole up in the workshop to tinker to get ready for Ruby’s next mission. And after his wife got back they’d see, against their better judgment, about adding another little monster to the family.
But hopefully just one. They’d never survive another set of twins.

.·゜゜·. Holy Cow A Survey .·゜゜·.  (and holy cow, it’s my 800th on here) by junkie_dreams
1. What made you pick up the last book you started reading? I started reading it for a while, then thesis made me too busy to read it for a few weeks, then when I was finished with that I realized I’ve left the book alone so I continued it and proceeded to finish the whole thing.
2. Have you received any bad or troubling news lately? All things revolving around Covid19, George Floyd, & Trump < Pretty much, though replace Trump with Duterte. He’s being such a cranky ass about hastily passing this new bill that will essentially allow warrantless arrests to anyone complaining about him on the internet, so everyone’s kinda stressing out about that right now.
3. When was the last time you were relieved about something? Since Tuesday, every day that I’ve woken up without a fever is a relief. Another thing is that it’s Gabie’s birthday today and I was relieved to find out that she loved the surprise I made for her :) I pooled all her friends together and made them do video birthday greetings and submit photos that they have with her and I compiled it in a simple short film. It turned out super cute!
4. What about your life concerns you the most? Anything job-wise. They say 2020 graduates are heading into the worst job market in a very long time, and I think that’s pretty straightforward information.
5. Is there a common thing most people seem to do without trouble, but it scares you (talking on the phone, driving, interviews, etc)? When was the last time you had to do one of these kinds of things? Talking on the phone, ordering in a restaurant, and asking for help in any kind of store. I had to talk to a Grab delivery driver the other day to help him with directions going to my house; andddd I don’t usually have to recite my order or ask for help at a store myself because my girlfriend will often be the one to speak for me HAHAHAH.
6. Is a pen pal something you would enjoy? If so, what kinds of little things would you send your pen friends? No, only because writing exhausts me these days. I only enjoy writing for people I already know very well and love, and I wouldn’t feel invested enough to write to people I don’t know all that much yet.
7. Describe a time when you were there for a friend? Angela was sad the other day so I dropped her short messages to let her know I was there for her. She never replied, but it’s okay; it was just important to me that she knew I wasn’t going to leave her alone.
8. When was the last time you went somewhere for the first time? I dunno, I obviously haven’t gone around the city in months...though I’m thinking it’s the milk tea place we have at campus, called Nomu. I was there to pick up a drink a week before lockdown.
9. What is a situation that makes you feel especially confident? If it’s a situation that I know I can handle, like a test I studied a lot for; or if it’s a situation where I have a lot of support.
10. What was the subject of your most recent conversation? My dad was asking if he can have one of my soju bottles (my mom recently bought me five) and was also asking what flavor is really good. That prompted me to walk over and hesitatingly point out the good flavors, until he said, “Just kidding, I was just checking to see if this will make you stand up. You’re so predictableeeeeeeee” hahahaha
11. Hypothetically and generally speaking, how would you go about breaking up with someone? Is there anything you would make sure to say, or perhaps not say? I’d do it personally, say everything there is to say, and let’s face it, I see myself crying a lot too because I can never have serious conversations without tearing up lol.
12. Are you more of a night person or a day person? What is it about the night/day that you favor? I like the nightlife more. I hate the sun and when it’s bright out, so I’m most active when it’s evening and the lights and stars are pretty.
13. What do you find particularly offensive? Would you say you’re easy or difficult to offend? Mostly anything racist, misogynist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, biphobic, acephobic, and anti-poor. I’m very alert about these things and will call out anyone making insensitive sentiments about any of them.
14. Is there a belief you have that most others around you don’t have? Do you share this belief with others, or do you tend to keep it to yourself? Have you ever offended anyone with this belief? Ok so it’s technically the opposite of belief but I am atheist in a predominantly Catholic country. I’m very vocal about it except with my family. I probably have offended some people by stuff I’ve said or shared, but I don’t care. If they choose to ignore the myriad of issues surrounding their religion, they’re part of the problem and the reason why I’m so wholly against it.
15. Do you consider internet friendships as important as offline friendships, or do you view them differently? I value offline friendships more.
16. When was the last time you visited relatives or friends of the family? Is visiting family something you enjoy? I visited my lola, aunt, and cousins last Sunday when I was sick, since the doctor we were heading to lives in the same village. I hadn’t seen them since December I think? so my lola cried when she saw us walk through the front gate :’) I love visiting family, whoever it may be. It’s always fun to catch up, as long as conversations don’t turn into politics lol.
17. What did you do for the last holiday or event you celebrated? For my birthday we were stuck in lockdown so I couldn’t really do anything, but we had lots of food which is the easiest way to make me happy anyway. My parents and sister bought a blueberry cheesecake but had the blueberry part scraped off and then they crushed a whole pack of Oreos to turn it into an Oreo cheesecake lol; and Angela sent me a box of sushi.
18. If you’ve moved out from home, what was the scariest thing about it? What was/is your favorite thing about it? I haven’t yet.
19. Are there any fictional characters you like even though they’re “bad” or “evil?” What qualities draw you to a character? Yeah. Many antagonists speak the truth, and that makes it so easy to root for them. It’s this case very often in pro wrestling.
20. What are your thoughts on “forgiving” murderers, rapists, attackers, etc? Do you think it’s even possible to forgive these people? I don’t even forgive friends who betray me, so much less would I forgive assholes like the ones you listed. It’s definitely possible; I just choose not to do it because that’s my way of being in peace.
21. What was the last series you finished watching? Do you have any plans to begin another? I’m awwwwwwwful at finishing series man. I’m still on Descendants of the Sun but I also started a rewatch of The Big Bang Theory lmao. I want to finish DOTS first though and then maybe move on to Crash Landing On You, another Korean drama. Big Bang’s not really a priority for me and just something I wanna watch when I don’t want anything too heavy.
22. What is one way in which you are different from a year ago? What is one way in which you are still the same? I’m a lot less afraid of dealing with people (and been better with it) thanks to the stuff I’ve had to do in the last year, like my internship and heading external relations for my org. I’m still the same in the sense that I’m still deathly terrified in the last few moments before I do the aforementioned dealing with people lol. Once I jump into the conversation I’m perfect, but I take f o r e v e r to get prepared.
23. When was the last time you had to walk somewhere in the rain? How about the snow? I don’t like walking in the rain and we don’t get snow.
24. Are there any types of survey questions you dread or don’t like answering for whatever reason? What kinds of questions do you like best? Questions that make me think too much or are too deep. I also don’t like basic surveys. Random is where it’s at. Ask me what I got at the last restaurant I was at, places I plan to visit soon, the last time I got mad, stuff like that.
25. If you could learn about anything without the stress of grades or cost, what kind of classes would you take? Law.
26. What was the last item of clothing you purchased? Do you wear it often? Two identical tops in different colors. I haven’t gotten the chance to wear either a lot because lockdown happened shortly after I bought them.
27. Has anything made you feel nostalgic lately? Sure. When I was compiling stuff for Gab’s surprise video, I came across some very old photos of us and of her and Angela.
28. What was the last chore you completed? Wash my plate from breakfast.
29. Name a song you’ve listened to today? 7/11 by Beyoncé, heh.
30. Is there anything you’ve promised yourself you’ll never do again? Drink buko juice. I had to drink it for the first few days of my UTI treatment and it’s so disgustinggggggg.

For fandom meme-swtor?
Send me a fandom!
This one isn’t as spicy as the Dragon Age one, but I still got Wordy.
Also there’s lots of KOTFE/KOTET/etc spoilers in here, so don’t read if you don’t want to see em. (Looking at you, Chignon.)
The character(s) I first fell in love with:
My own OCs haha.
But more seriously: It was actually Darth Malgus! I was always going to play a Star Wars MMO, let’s be real. But when they started posting promo videos and cinematics for the game, my Sith-loving ass immediately gravitated to that guy haha. And then, it turned out he had the same VA as The Architect from Dragon Age, and that was it for me.
If we’re talking about companions, then it was probably Malavai Quinn. Sith Warrior was the first class I got to 50, and Quinn was the first companion that I really got overly attached to haha.
The character(s) I never expected to love as much as I do now:
Most (not all, but most) of the “new” companions that came in with KOTFE and beyond. I was initially really sour when I realized we were losing all our class storyline companions, and they were being replaced with a new crew of Lana, Theron, Koth, my mother-in-law Senya, etc. Especially when they – at the time – said we’d eventually get our class companions back, but it would be a while. So I started KOTFE sure that I would hate the new crew because I would rather have the old one…. and ended up liking them quite a lot! Mostly, lol.
The character(s) everyone else loves that I don’t:
Doc is the main one, jesus christ. If you didn’t read my last post, I just really really really do not mesh well with overly sexual and Adult Humor-y characters who scold you with a “You’re no fun.” if your OC isn’t into it. Doc is the worst example of it that I’ve ever encountered. I always play a male JK, and the fact nearly all of his convos amount to, “Boy, you and me are going to be up to our eyeballs in vagina when this war ends, amirite?” “You don’t want that? Come on, the Jedi Code doesn’t say you can’t FUCK, live a little.” “You’re no fun. Well, more for me.” drives me NUTS. This combined with how he interacts with Kira just does me in. Shoves him out an airlock.
Dark Side Jaesa is another big one, albeit mainly for OOC reasons. I just hate the fact that she even exists, really. I get the appeal of a story where a Sith corrupts a Jedi to the Dark Side, but the way she does a total 180 into gross hedonism while Serving You always just makes me cringe. Plus there’s the fact that straight dudebro gamers are really nasty with her, and she’s the main companion I always see men put into the slave bikini outfit, and just yikes.
Also just a lot of one-off NPCs that everyone goes crazy for and ships their OCs with, but I  constantly forget who they even are lol. Attros Finn comes to mind. I don’t hate them! Just don’t get the appeal I guess.
The character(s) I love that everyone else hates:
Lord Scourge, although I’m not sure he’s really hated as much anymore. I just remember at launch, when all of the overly invested Revan stans absolutely HATED him because of what he did in the Revan novel, and then flooded the tags with vitriol over being “stuck” with him as a Knight, and having to hear about Revan in his companion convos. It was really, really tiresome! Maybe it’s because I never really cared that deeply about Revan as my personal character, but I could not understand the backlash.
Anyway, Lord Scourge is my favorite companion in the game by a long shot. I love the conversations you can have with him about the Jedi vs Sith, and I love the mutually respectful tone those conversations take. (Where other Bioware companions who disagree with you have a tendency to just go, “You’re wrong.” and shut you down.) The fact that he’s so tied in with the plot just makes me love him more, really.
The character(s) I used to love but don’t any longer:
Cytharat, Koth and Theron mostly. Although this takes a bit of explaining, and is a bit Discourse-y – because I really appreciate them as characters, but their role and Bioware’s decisions with them is what made me no longer love them. Here’s the thing: Bioware has a bad habit of introducing male characters that are bisexual, and then having them betray you, leading to situations where they either get murdered or vanish from the narrative entirely. Meanwhile, bisexual women like Lana are untouched and around forever.
I was overjoyed when I first saw Cytharat. Y'all know I’m a ho for purebloods, and the fact that he was Malgus’ apprentice was fascinating to me – and then he turned out to be a bi romance. I got very hyped for him, only to find out he dies like 5 minutes later – or if you save him, he’s never seen again. Huge letdown.
Koth was the first character I fell in love with of the new KOTFE crew – I even initiated a romance with him! – but it quickly became obvious there’s no way to play the expansion without him turning on you judgementally at some point or another. And then, hey big surprise, you can kill him or else he’s never seen again.
Theron I’ve loved since we first got to know him in the Forged Alliances content, but that whole storyline where he seemingly betrays you out of nowhere, only to later reveal he didn’t actually, idk. And then, once again, you either kill him or he disappears from the story. It felt like a weirdly shoehorned in plot for shock value, and robbed us of a second bi MOC character.
You see the trend here? I want to love these characters, but Bioware continually electing to do this shit with bi dudes is tiresome and makes me unwilling to invest any interest in the characters anymore.
The character(s) I would totally smooch:
None.
The character(s) I’d want to be like:
None really come to mind? I just want to be a Jedi, come on.
The character(s) I’d slap:
Hunter all day every day.
The pairing(s) that I love:
Haha, this question is hard, because most of the SWTOR ships I’m invested in are between my OCs and my friends’ OCs.
However.
SCOURGE / KNIGHT IS THE BIG ONE, THE ULTIMATE, THE ALL-TIME FAVORITE. It’s really hard to describe just how much I love this ship, and just how much time and energy I’ve invested into it over the past… 8 years wow……….. To the point of being almost territorial. And it’s also near impossible for me to talk about why I love it, because the version I ship is so personalized with my specific Jedi Knight, especially since it had to live exclusively in headcanon land for so long. Scourge is, more or less, my Knight’s support pillar and the thing that grounds him and keeps him humble, in a world where my Knight is surrounded by people who expect him to be a pure flawless messiah. But, I mean. How can you have a man look at your character and say, “I’ve waited 300 years to see your face.” and not immediately ship it. And then I finally got vindicated after all these years when it was made canon!
I really love Arcann / Knight for a lot of the same reasons as the above, but I just really adore his one (1) romance convo haha. Granted, yes he did a lot of fucked up things, but I was so grateful when he had like… a Zuko-esque redemption. Where he comes to your character and firmly believes he doesn’t deserve forgiveness, and especially doesn’t deserve affection, and is instead met with acceptance and a chance to grow and heal. That’s the good shit.
Others:
Lana / Warrior and Lana / Inquisitor are my particular jam. I endlessly enjoy the mutual respect between Lana and those particular PCs.
Malavai Quinn / Sith Warrior is a longtime fave, and although I DO love him with a female Warrior, I really do with he’d been an option for dudes as well. And I feel the same in reverse about Vette / Warrior – I do like her with a male Warrior, and it’s so sweet and wholesome and endearing, but man I wish she’d been an option for female Warriors.
I ship Risha with every woman – especially Vette and Sumalee – and will be salty until my grave that Risha / f!Smuggler isn’t possible, because I love Risha with the Smuggler but she gives me powerful WLW vibes.
Agent / Watcher Two is also a lowkey favorite, but I ALSO wish it could be done with a female Agent instead. Same with Agent / Raina Temple.
Agent / Vector is very sweet, but again, I will be salty until my grave that it couldn’t be done with a male Agent.
Can you guys sense a running theme here?
Finally: NGL I love Valkorion / Senya, even though that ended in pure disaster.
And people around here used to ship Keeper / Lokin, and tbh, I still kinda love it lol.
The pairing(s) that I despise:
In general terms, I fucking hate every single romance that involves the male PC romancing his padawan or underling, especially since most of them seem like very young girls. I don’t know why this is so pervasive in the game, but yikes Bioware. Consular/Nadia is the worst offender, but they’re all just cringe central for me.
But the big one is Agent / Hunter. This would have gotten me run off Tumblr back in the day, but god I hate this pairing. I mentioned in the last post that I just will never enjoy ships where the two characters actively want to murder each other, but. This just gets magnified for me with Agent/Hunter, where all the mind control and blatant abuse comes into play – and people have a tendency to write noncon rape fic of the two and present it as ~sexy rivalmance~, which is awful. Add to this the “no homo” reveal where Hunter turns out to be a woman, after getting everyone hyped about a dude flirting with their male character the whole game, and it’s just a huge No Thanks from me all around.
And for largely personal reasons I just don’t like seeing female Knights with Scourge. Listen, for YEARS  I was treated like a pariah for shipping Scourge with my male Knight, while being unable to find Scourge content that didn’t have a female Knight plastered all over him. Even though he wasn’t even a romance option one way or another, the way the fandom treated m!Knight/Scourge with disdain while ardently shipping f!Knight/Scourge was offputting as shit. And then, after years, he was made a romance option for women AND men, and all these awful people acted like they were robbed, the way people reacted when Kaidan and Jaal were made bi in Mass Effect. I’m so tired. I never want to see Scourge with a female Knight again.
