Revenge, or Justice?

a/n: decided to step out of my delusion for five minutes and confront the fact that Luke Castellan is not my perfect little princess :((

You understood Luke Castellan, in ways no one else did.

Around camp, he had always been the golden boy, charming, talented, kind. But you could see through him, and his act.

As a daughter of Nemesis, you could practically smell the need for revenge. Every time you saw him, it was like a flashing beacon. The twitch of his face each time someone mentioned his quest, or he caught a glimpse of that scar in the mirror.

The way he tossed and turned in his sleep, waking up from nightmares to stare at the ceiling angrily.

It was so obvious to you, and you always wondered how no one else saw it.

For years, you hardly interacted. Your worlds would never collide, even if you understood him better than most people. He probably didn’t even realise you knew his secrets. That was until he approached you up front, a few days after your 18th birthday.

“Hey, Y/N.” He said as he strode up to your table, greeting you like you were old friends. Which you probably should be, considering you’d shared a cabin together for the past 5 years.

“Oh, hi.”

“Mind if I sit here?” He asked, gesturing to the seat opposite you.

You shrugged noncommittally.

“So, what’s up?” You asked, pushing your food around your plate.

“Nothing really.” He was obviously lying.

“Why are you here then?”

“Do you not want me here?”

“I never said that. I was just wondering why you’re suddenly showing an interest when we’ve never spoken to each other before.” You explained calmly, you didn’t sound bitter about it, because you weren’t.

“Hm, that’s true.” He muttered, resting his chin on his palm, “I suppose I just wanted to ask you what you think of it all.”

“All of what?”

“Camp. Life. Whatever.”

“This place? It’s alright. I’ve been in worse places.”

“Hm, that’s true.” He mumbled, seeming slightly lost in thought, as if trying to decode your answer.

“Luke, can you please just cut to the chase? What do you want to ask me?”

“Nothing. Don’t worry about it, sorry for bothering you.” He said, and quickly stood up, walking away in such a hurry that he left his tray behind.

That first interaction confirmed all of your suspicions, Luke Castellan was hiding something, and you were going to find out what that was.

Eventually, you managed to get it out of him. You cornered him in the woods one day after the campfire, and demanded to know what he was plotting. Of course, you couldn’t have known that he would declare his hatred for the gods and how he wished they could be overthrown, but it wasn’t exactly surprising. You’d always known something was off about the boy, even when you couldn’t properly pinpoint it.

“I just, I thought you’d understand, y’know-”

“‘Cause I’m the daughter of revenge?”

“Well, yes, but also-”

“No, you're right. I do understand. The gods have treated me like shit my whole life. They dump us minor children in your cabin, along with all the ones they’re too ashamed to claim. And all you major children, you're treated like you don’t exist, probably because there are too many of you to count.” You explained, looking directly at him.

He returned your gaze, and in his eyes you saw the realisation that you knew him better than he ever thought. And that he knew you in return.

“I always saw you looking at me, did you know?” He asked, not breaking eye contact.

“That you were the same as me? I had a feeling. Ever since you came back from the quest you seemed different. Angrier.”

“Huh. I didn’t think I was so obvious.”

“You weren’t. I just know a want for revenge when I see it. It’s in my blood.”

“You didn’t see anything then, because I don’t want revenge. I want justice.”

“Same difference, Castellan.”

III

It didn’t take long for you and Luke to begin making plans. He had later confessed to you that they all came from Kronos who had visited him in his dreams, insisting that the only way to overthrow the gods was to resurrect him.

You hadn’t been too happy about that. You didn’t like the gods, but that didn’t mean the titans would be any better. But Luke assured you he was only using Kronos, stringing him along to help achieve your joint goal.

Did you believe him? You believed that was his intention, but whether he could actually execute that was a different matter entirely.

Despite your slight reservations, you still chose to help Luke with his main plan, which was to steal the master bolt.

Strategising wasn’t exactly your biggest strength, but luckily Luke had learnt a thing or two from Annabeth, and he was able to formulate the plot to steal Zeus’ bolt during the winter solstice. It was something which suited him, being the son of thieves.

Meanwhile, it seemed your main role was to be his emotional support. You weren’t overly thrilled about it, but if it helped to achieve your end goal, you could deal with it.

Soon you realised just how necessary you were to Luke’s plan. He would’ve certainly cracked by now if you weren’t there to reassure him that what he was doing was right. As much as he seemed solid in his convictions, you could tell that without Kronos nudging him, he would never have acted on any of them.

Although, if it weren’t for Luke, you wouldn’t have either.

“Do you trust me, Y/N?” He would ask as you went over the plan once again, desperate for some kind of validation.

“Yes. I trust you a lot. You can do this.”

“And we’re right to do this?”

“Yes. You want justice, remember?”

“Yeah. That’s what I want.”

He preferred it when you called it justice and not revenge. He was still so righteous in some ways. Old habits die hard.

Luke only truly proved his dedication to the plan when he was revealed as the thief. He abandoned his sister and betrayed all of camp for the cause, and as you both fell through the portal backbiter had created, your trust in him was cemented.

You were in it for the long haul now, there was no going back. And as sad as you were to see Annabeth’s poor little face, you were more disappointed that she hadn’t understood. You’d thought she was a smart girl, so how could she not see that what you and Luke were doing was right?

The next few months were rough, and it took you back to the old days when you were alone and on the run. Except this time you had someone beside you each step of the way. During that time was when you stopped seeing Luke as merely an ally that you tolerated, and more of a friend you trusted.

He was strong and intelligent, and more firm about his convictions than ever before. And each day, your certainty that you made the right choice grew and grew. You hoped your mother was proud.

Luke was right. You were fighting for justice. Justice for the minor gods and their children who were constantly overlooked.

But equally you understood a large part of your decision to go against the gods had been about selfish revenge. And you were ok with that. Revenge was your thing, it always had been.

Over time, your feelings for Luke continued to grow, and you could tell he felt the same way. You’d always been able to read him like a book, and you didn’t know if that was because you were good with people, or because he laid his soul bare to you.

You hoped it was the latter, and as he hugged you to his side during rough nights on the Princess Andromeda, you knew all your hopes had come true.

But you also knew that any ‘love’ was just a footnote in your stories. You were both much more focused on your goals.

This time, it was ‘your’ plan that was put into practice. Kronos wanted to revive Thalia, to put another demigod into play that could fulfil the prophecy. But it was your idea to poison the tree and allow the campers to retrieve the golden fleece for you.

After all, you knew every demigod wanted glory, to appease their parents. What better way to goad them into doing your dirty work than with the promise of a great quest?

You were pleased to finally have a proper role in the planning, and you realised that this was your greatest strength, understanding people.

After all, it was what had led you to Luke, and now what allowed you to aid Kronos, and it worked. You were one step closer to realising your dream.

Luke had been distant ever since he found out Thalia was alive again. He suddenly seemed conflicted, torn between past and present.

You had always thought it would be Annabeth that came between him and his goal, but it seemed Thalia was the real problem.

He was determined to recruit her too, insisting that she’d fit in perfectly, and that she was certain to see things his way. You weren’t so sure. In your eyes, Thalia would only serve as a distraction for Luke, something to pull him away from his work. And something to pull him away from you.

You’d always thought that it would be just you and him. That you needed each other, in a way that went deeper than a silly teen romance. You understood him, you always had. When you looked into his eyes, you saw yourself, your ideals, your future, reflected back at you. And you thought it was the same for him.

But apparently not, apparently you didn’t know him best. She did.

“Are you sure you want to recruit her, Luke? What if something happens?”

“Like what?” He asked, his voice derisive and mocking.

“Oh, I don’t know, her saying no and then running you through?”

“She won’t say no.” He said firmly, brushing you off once more.

So when you heard Luke was injured, your immediate thought was that Thalia had run him through. And, of course, you were right.

Ethan, your half-brother, had brought him to you, back to the Princess Andromeda, and as twisted as it was, the first thing you wanted to say was I told you so.

That was of course, until you saw his broken body in the infirmary, and all thoughts of anger were forgotten.

“Oh, god, are you okay? Please tell me you're okay.” You cried, rushing over to him, and crouching beside his bed.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I’ll survive. Just please don’t say ‘I told you so’ yet.”

“Okay soldier,” You responded, your voice so choked with emotion that you couldn’t help but let the term of endearment slip out.

“Do you-” He paused to take in a deep breath, his body shaking as he did so, “Do you still trust me?”

You nodded furiously.

“You’ll be with me till the end, won’t you?”

“Of course I will Luke. Till the very end.”

VII

You wonder if you knew then just how it would end. Possibly you did. You were both doomed from the moment he sat down at your table.

But you kept your promise to him. You stayed with him until the end, you survived through all those months of watching him change from the boy you trusted into the man you feared.

You stood by and watched as he grew cruel to everyone around him. Normally you were the exception, but you weren’t entirely immune to his scathing words and glances.

You sat by his body as he bled out, the golden blood of a titan shifting into the red blood of a mortal. And you didn’t resist as you too were taken.

Sometimes you wondered what your relationship would be like in a world without gods. Or at least one where they cared about their children.

Would you have even met? Would you care for each other without that common thread of anger running between you? You hoped so. You hoped that your twisted relationship was just a product of circumstance, and that the feelings were real. You hoped that they could have formed without the codependency and the paranoia.

But the truth was you were from different worlds, tied together by your goals, so desperate to achieve justice. Or revenge.

And the real tragedy was not your failed love story, but the fact that even after so much sacrifice, you still couldn’t achieve what you wanted.

A world where you didn’t need to be an archangel of revenge at the age of 18. A world where you could simply live.

❄️ Magical cold/comfort

Fantasy hurt/comfort ideas no. 6

Deep in the woods, Whumpee gets injured and passes out. Caretaker carries them as they stumble through the snow, desperately looking for anyone who can help. Eventually they find a lone cabin with someone who is very surprised to have visitors. Whumpee wakes up wrapped in a blanket in front of a warm fire, their injuries treated with some sweet-smelling home remedies. Their head rests in Caretaker's lap as Caretaker gently strokes their hair. Whumpee dozes off again, listening to Caretaker explain their situation to the odd stranger who has taken them in.

Whumpee accidentally covers themself in frost while trying to practice some cold-related spell. Caretaker steps outside to find Whumpee on the ground, practically frozen solid. Caretaker is quick to bring them inside and seat them near the fire, bundle them up in layers of blankets, and make them something warm to eat. When Whumpee takes the meal with shivering hands, Caretaker presses them on why they were trying to practice that by themself. Whumpee's face turns red as they admit they were worried they weren't strong enough to protect Caretaker from Whumper.

Huddling for warmth combined with nonhuman parts, like wings, tails, long pointy ears, etc. Nonhuman Caretaker uses their wings to wrap Whumpee up like a blanket, hugging them tight as they wait for the snow storm to pass. Caretaker tries to thaw Nonhuman Whumpee's long ears by rubbing them with their hands or putting socks over them. Nonhuman Whumpee and Nonhuman Caretaker twist their tails together, rub their wings together, etc to try to warm up. This can vary a lot depending on what species Whumpee and Caretaker are.

Whumpee with fire magic thinks they'll be just fine venturing into the cold, but as they use more and more magic they start to exhaust their power. By the time they get home, their power is depleted and they're freezing cold. Or maybe they don't even make it home, passing out outside where Caretaker finds them and brings them inside. They groggily wake up in front of the fireplace, leaning against Caretaker on the couch. As soon as they're lucid enough, Caretaker scolds them and makes them promise not to be so careless.

Caretaker with ice magic or cold resistance underestimates how dangerous the cold can be to Whumpee. While outside foraging for potion ingredients or doing some quest in the snow, Caretaker assumes Whumpee is right behind them. But when they turn around, Whumpee isn't there. Caretaker frantically goes back along the trail, and finds Whumpee collapsed on the ground, a layer of frost already forming over them. Whatever they were doing would have to wait. For now, they had to find some way to warm Whumpee up.

Whumper freezes Whumpee in an ice crystal as a decoration or trophy. They use magic to keep Whumpee alive and conscious, even as they're completely frozen solid. When Caretaker finally gets Whumpee out of Whumper's lair and breaks them out of the ice, they want nothing more than to get revenge on Whumper. Still, that will have to wait until Whumpee's doing better. For now, Caretaker settles for warming Whumpee up with cuddles by the fireplace, squeezing them tight and promising them that Whumper will never hurt them again.

Caretaker is just chilling (no pun intended) in their house when a portal opens up. Their rival Whumpee collapses through it. Caretaker just barely catches them before they fall face-first on the floor. Whumpee is badly injured, soaked to the bone and shivering uncontrollably. Caretaker is just a little bit tempted to throw their rival back into the portal and close it behind them. Still, they reluctantly decide to warm Whumpee up and wait to do that until after they've recovered somewhat. Caretaker really wants Whumpee to tell them what happened. After all, as much as they dislike Whumpee, not even they would put them in this condition.

Possibly a continuation of the last prompt, rivals Caretaker and Whumpee bickering as Caretaker tries to warm Whumpee up. As they try to get the ice off with fire or a blow-dryer, Caretaker calls Whumpee an idiot. Whumpee's face turns redder, and they snap at Caretaker to shut up and get them another blanket. Caretaker makes Whumpee some hot tea to help thaw them out, but Whumpee refuses to drink it because it's too hot. Both of them want to cuddle, but neither wants to be the one to suggest it.

Dumping some BES fanfic ideas that have been bouncing around in my head because I need to write them down somewhere (lots of Fowzu, because I have the brainrot).

Hunger Games AU, because that's something I've been wanting to write for years. Long-form. Mizu is reaped and Taigen volunteers in a last ditch effort to save his status after his father died, but confesses that he was debating on it until he realized it would give him a shot at killing Mizu. Unfortunately for them, they're roped into acting out a fake romance to endear themselves to the audience. Fake dating enemies to lovers Taimizu for a start, debating on possible side ships.

Fowzu smut, two chapters. Madame Kaji gets her hands on Mizu before they try to storm the castle and convinces them to take a slightly more subtle approach, disguised as one of her workers come to entertain Abijah and his guests. It does not go according to plan.

Modern AU Fowzu, long-form. Mizu hasn't dated in two years, since he had a bad breakup with Mikio, who couldn't deal with Mizu coming out as transmasc. He recently started working as a bouncer at a nightclub where Abijah is a regular, and he keeps hitting on Mizu. Mizu can barely stand him, but he enjoys the attention far too much and despite knowing what a bad idea it is, he decides to give Abijah a shot. Plot with some porn, enemies with benefits to lovers, surprising soft.

Mizu x Akemi x Taigen x Ringo, post-canon shameless fluff, oneshot. At the end of Mizu's revenge quest, she and her loved ones move into a mountain village to recuperate. She and Ringo cause quite a stir, a pair of second class citizens who keep spending the night with that rich married couple.

Gen fic exploring Abijah's backstory after the Nine Years War. Probably a oneshot, but my character studies and backstory fics tend to get long. Headcanons all the way down. I have a lot of thoughts about his past that might be interesting context for how I write him in the present.

Akemizu roleswap, unknown length. Wanted to figure out how to swap their roles while maintaining their social statuses and gender presentation, and I haven't 100% figured it out, but I'm thinking about Akemi being an assassin who works with knives and poison, and Mizu being a sex worker with a chip on their shoulder who presents as a boy rather than a woman.

Gen, pre-canon/canon divergence, oneshot. Mizu takes a job for Heiji. I know nothing about the plot itself for this one, I just want to write Mizu unwittingly working for Abijah and the horror and rage of finally connecting the dots.

crying this is vaguely related but did you guys know neji appears in a time travel episode(/arc?) in the boruto anime. does it surprise you to hear that it makes me extremely mad

but also so true LMFAO i'm usually the type to give things a chance (or so i'd like to believe) but not much of boruto interests me 😔 some of the kids look cute and i like.... like..... a few of the timeskip designs (...like three of them? i like suigetsu karin and tenten's.) but it's not worth it and in fact i think having to see neji and hiashi alive in the same UwU Family space would have had me banging my head against a wall.

also what if they made him ugly. that's my perfect angel boy they can't do that.

i'm veeeery fond of their og naruto dynamic, i think it often goes misunderstood/understated but to me it's one of the highlights to the original series! from stuff like kakashi shielding him from orochimaru and sealing his curse mark (which. btw. crazy. LOVE that scene) to the ENTIRE deal with chidori and the pride kakashi felt watching sasuke fight gaara with it... i think it's SURPRISINGLY well done! while i due to personal preference like to read it as specifically familial, i think you can read it anyway you want (not all mentor-type dynamics need to be familial in nature and not being so won't make it any less meaningful)

i don't think kakashi was a particularly great teacher (in fact i think tenzo is shown to be a MUCH better captain/mentor the moment he's introduced to team 7 lol) but you can certainly tell that he cares about all of the kids and wants to do right by them, it's just that with sasuke specifically to me it feels like it's of highly personal significance to him?

and it's not hard to see why, obviously kakashi and sasuke do not have the same trauma but i find it reductive to say that it means kakashi can't see himself in him at all, or that he can't be of any use to sasuke? one of my favorite scenes is the (... i think mildly controversial, from what i've seen?) one where he talks to sasuke on that tree and tells him to drop his revenge quest, because while yeah it was not a perfect effort, to me it's clear that 1. kakashi was being very genuine in his words and 2. that it like... almost worked? sasuke was very sincerely pondering his words before the sound 4 came along.

btw so funny that both kakashi and obito tie him up when talking to him. anyway

so you add that with the weird relationship kakashi has with the entire uchiha clan, starting with obito (the very reason kakashi is able to teach sasuke in any meaningful way at all), going through itachi if you treat team ro as canon WHICH I DO, I LOVE TEAM RO, and ending with sasuke, who is someone kakashi can still try to give a normal life to? yeah i can see why he might feel personally responsible for him!

sasuke's side is less in your face but like... sasuke sought kakashi out to help train him and very much echoes kakashi's words about not abandoning your comrades. he is also often the first one to understand where kakashi is going with something, him and kakashi have similar ways of going through life even if kakashi has majorly mellowed out with age.

there's also little things like how sasuke just had no qualms about walking into kakashi's house unannounced (after itachi beat his ass ty itachi looove u itachi), even before that, how when kakashi calls sasuke over while itachi+kisame are having tea, sasuke just kind of announces that he HATES sweets (so cute), as if he made the assumption kakashi either bought it for him or was thinking about it? like.

look at his baby face.

despite whatever route it ended up taking To Me it's very clear that they did have a special bond and that it was a VERY important part of sasuke's everything pre-shippuden, he was clearly comfortable around kakashi despite his standoffish attitude. it was not perfect and kakashi does hold blame for a lot of things (in general he has a very hands-off teaching style that doesn't work great with these kids), but that's like. part of why i like it you know! it's a little complicated but not through any ill will. it's just that they are both full of Issues lmao

it makes me ssoooooo saaaaad that they BARELY speak to each other at all in shippuden because like. that was one of THE dynamics in the original team 7 you know? and idk if it comes as a surprise but i'm not even OPPOSED to sasuke wanting to kill kakashi by the time they meet again? in fact i think it could be kind of awesome. because like he could have a lot of reasons to be angry with him, up to and including the mere fact that kakashi took SO LONG to even meet him again?

(remember when team 7 finally meets sasuke again w/ tenzo and sai, and he himself mentions kakashi? it's one of those things you can choose to dismiss as meaningless dialogue but i often do think about it lol)

but instead we have sasuke in the peak of his borderline-demonization by the writing, which just leads to there not being much of an interesting dialogue at all. i'm not opposed to kakashi's sharingan being something that sasuke comes to resent either — it could be very fun character writing as that is the very thing that encouraged them to bond in the first place —, but i don't like the way it was done and i ESPECIALLY hate how it was immediately dropped like BROTHER MY PLOT THREADS... THEY'RE FALLING APART...

i could go on about a thousand different other things, such as.

sorry to mention jiraiya but. the rasengan vs chidori thing is VERY telling; jiraiya is naruto's mentor, and kakashi is sasuke's, this is reflected best when the kids each use their respective Overkill Jutsu at each other and the adults each take responsibility for their own kid

again, i'm unsure if it's fully intentional but there is this opposition of orochimaru vs kakashi other than the obvious confrontational scene they have. the very fact that kakashi is the one to put a limit to orochimaru's literal influence on sasuke through the curse mark is a very interesting narrative choice! kakashi is also extremely afraid of orochimaru and highly protective of sasuke; again it reads as a Personal fear/protectiveness rather than purely Professional to me. it builds this idea of kakashi being one of sasuke's choices, and orochimaru being the other (and we know which one he chooses unfortunately lol)

chidori in general is like. crazy btw. it becomes sasuke's signature move. and it's kakashi's creation. hi

this is also something that was dropped but there was also the occasional pointing out of similarities between, fucking, lee and gai of all people vs kakashi and sasuke? and like i don't need to explain this one that much right. gai is lee's dad in like everything but name LOL (and much like kakashi he also has questionable habits when it comes to how he teaches his kid)

but this is way too long LMFAO my tldr is that I Like Them And I Wish They Had More Screentime </3

their dynamic concretely to me is about caring very much about someone who shares a lot of pain with you, but being a little intimidated by that shared aspect. nothing hurts more than failing / being failed By someone who you know DOES understand you, in the end!

it's all my personal preference of course there's no right or wrong way to read naruto (well the wrong way is thinking it's good.) (joke) but i WAS surprised to not see sasuke and kakashi's relationship being discussed more (esp. with empathy for both characters) because well. obviously it's one of my favorite naruto things GFKDMGKFDM

I would like to revisit this idea that the League would all band together against AFO in favor of saving Shigaraki from him....

Because imo it was already plain as day that that was far fetched, but this chapter kind of doubled down on that.

We know now that there was communication, collaboration, and cooperation between Toga and AFO. He gave her the nomu vial, and we know that Toga had some understanding of Spinner's job in all of this.

Whether she was aware of Spinner's mental condition or not is remained to be seen--not sure if it will be relevant. But all of this should be pretty telling of the state the League is currently in.

To be pretty blatant about it, I don't think Toga and Touya give much of a fuck about what is going on with Shigaraki and AFO. They surely have to have some inkling of an idea that something is wrong, off, Shigaraki isn't himself.

But despite that, Toga and Touya still just...noped the fuck away from the situation. They ran off to do their own thing (more than once), and currently---rather than being shown some hesitance or internal conflict with AFO taking over their operation, they really more just don't seem to think much of it. As long as they can accomplish what they're setting out to do--get revenge--it certainly doesn't seem to matter to them whose command they are following right now. I mean, Spinner too--but unlike Touya and Toga, he had internal conflict. (and arguably his version of self-hatred has resulted in a very different soul-searching quest than the main 3)

Could this be due to their emotional circumstances? Absolutely. No doubt that it is. But that just goes to show that unless they undergo some seriously surprising development in a very very short amount of time, and unless their priorities suddenly divert away from their own wants and needs and toward Shigaraki instead, putting their needs on the backburner (highly unlikely imo) I don't really see them putting up a fight against AFO for those reasons any time soon.

I mean, if it were to go this way, a great start would be to show us that they actually are bothered by the situation, show them thinking about it. Idk, something. But for Touya and Toga specifically, I've yet to see it.

I do think they will all band together at the end. I really don't see another way this manga can possibly end on a good note (and I think it WILL end on a good note), but it certainly doesn't seem like it will happen without any influence from the heroes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kurogiri is a special case. He literally IS a case of brainwashing, programming, and almost no agency whatsoever. His hero side (Shirakumo) is shining through now--I suspect for Shigaraki, but not without AFO's looming control--but it needs more reason to come out, which I still think is Aizawa's job to make happen.

Two things are true:

As long as the heroes keep fighting them and trying to put them down with violence, the villains fight them back and become more violent.

But also as long as the heroes keep ignoring, rejecting, not listening--and most importantly--NOT ACCEPTING the villains, the villains also keep fighting back and becoming more violent.

The villains want acceptance and will not change for the better until they get it. And that requires influence from the hero side.

Don’t get me wrong I still love her and I wanna see her live (even tho she didn’t show up last time and I’m still salty about it), but I just wish she’d grow up and mature. But yea his team be having him doing anything and hella side quest so I wouldn’t be surprised if he did show up. I’d actually love for it but like… what all would he perform besides the same old same old like majesty or Romans revenge? I feel like they don’t match each other energy anymore and the crowd wouldn’t want him playing Stan or slim shady… they wanna shake some ass LMAO 🤣

If she had him perform I think Majesty and Romans revenge would be obvious choices yeah, because Stan or Slim Shady or others DO NOT match the vibes 😂. @softbajis gave me ideas for another rindou headcanon post. him being tokyorev's 2nd best bf and all. aaaa writing this while listening to this playlist (on musi but for yall it's youtube 💕). it was her birthday the other day, anyway. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY HALLE BERRY!! ilyyy! sorry it's late! aaaaa 🥺

— rindou and (name) going on a shopping spree for new furniture for their new place.

— it was weird moving out from ran's place and several nights rindou couldn't sleep. even though he woke up to his partner laying peaceful beside him, the apartment still felt empty without his brother sleeping in the next room over.

— so after the 5th night of (name) waking up at three in the morning to rindou lounging on the balcony, a cigarette in hand, rindou took a day off and the two went shopping for little household items to make their small, one bedroom apartment seem more like home.

— they spend the whole day going from store to store. rindou follows behind his lover shyly smiling down at her as they happily coo over and daydream about where to place a decoration or a light fixture.

— definitely carries the bags. he isn't the tallest but he is definitely one of the strongest in (name)'s life. he enjoys it too! gives him a chance to flex his strength; carrying their shopping bags feeds his ego and gives him a sense of pride.

— knowing their favorite color is purple, rindou finds a pair of cute key hooks that pop open revealing white kitten/ inside when a key is hung from the bottom of the cats' boxes.

— rindou knows how much his roommate and lover likes their games. while the two were out, he sneaks off to an electronic store and orders a full, state of the art gaming set-up complete with a purple pair of cat-ear headphones and a purple gaming microphone.

— may have asked his brother to come over one day when mikey sent everyone home early to help set everything up while (name) was out at work. definitely shooed him out the door, though, once they were done. this was his surprise to (name), after all!! he wanted to see their face when he proudly lied and said it was all him!

— probably also got those tiktok room string lights but in purple for (name)'s and his home study. for their room his got the same lights but in white.

— both are usually pretty good when it comes to going to bed on time. but sometimes, rindou would stay up late mixing music one headphone on while (name) sits beside him on their computer farming a domain or playing through a quest.

— when they have a free moment/a free hand, they definitely, slowly entwine their fingers together.

— occasionally distracts (name) when their favorite character appears or when they're wishing on a character banner: "one kiss for every wish." gets a little jealous when they talk about how pretty their favorite characters are, hence the kisses, gentle touches, and affectionate nicknames (i.e. princess, my sweet girl, baby girl, doll, my queen, etc.) whenever a certain character appears on the screen.

— he still adores them though and loves to see them happy and smiling. bonten is well-known, wealthy organization, after all, and gladly replenishes (name)'s crystal top-up for them. also got into their favorite games and will co-op with them and give them assistance and advice with certain domains or bosses or character builds.

— one of the most patient men in tokyo, regardless of what other rival gangs and coworkers say. and that definitely shows when the the couple spend quality time relaxing in (name)'s favorite region simply exploring together after a long day.

— lets (name) sit on his lap while they play and rewarding and teasing them with surprises kisses and nose bumps.

— rindou isn't too big into skincare and haircare, unlike his brother ran. but he does the bare minimum, at least. will settle in together in the tub or shower and wash each other's backs and hair massaging their scalps and shoulders for each other. after they're all clean, (name) will do rindou's skincare routine.

— the soft, admiring, loving look rindou gets in his eyes as (name) rubs the moisturizer into his face and across the bridge of his nose. he cannot resist pecking their face with kisses. loves to hear his giggles as he does so.

— lots of "i love you, princess" and "how did i get so lucky?" will immediately get shut down, though, the second he says "i don't deserve you."

— once their skincare routines are done, he snuggles up to (name) pulling them close to his chest. loves it when (name) traces the huge, matching tattoo he got with his brother. definitely groans and hums as their fingers brush against his collarbone and his ribcage.

— lots of kisses!!!

— definitely gets a good night's rest for the first time since he moved in with them.

Mumbleshipping Boys Play Monster World w/ Mokuba

this one's for you @iamallyetnotatall

There's no way that Ryou doesn't induct his bfs into Monster World, they're legally required to play at least one campaign with him. Not that he coerces them so much as, they wouldn't be the right people for him if they weren't at least willing to try it. Kaiba's unfamiliar with co-op games so he's intrigued how this will be different from automated/video-game RPGs, Duke is excited to cause chaos and get the entire plot off-course. They invite Mokuba to round out the party (and to force Duke to behave at least a little bit because child is present).

Ryou pulls no punches with dungeon puzzles, quest riddles, deceptive NPCs, and map hazards. He is the god of this world, and he savors every bit of that role. He's so vicious that from the start, he makes everybody create two characters, a main and a backup just in case their main dies. He just knows that they're going to need it.

Kaiba makes a dragonborn paladin with an elf warlock as his backup. He's here to obliterate anything that gets in his way and Mokuba jokes that his brother should have picked barbarian. He gets very into the puzzles, doesn't care too much for the social part with the NPCs, and has killed quite a few of them when he suspects they're plants/liars (not very cash-money of you, Kaiba; boy ignores the existence of alignment charts). He's only right most of the time, and he knows he's never going to perfect his kill-rate because Ryou knows how to play him, and he's kind of okay with that. It keeps things challenging, and this boy would wither away without a challenge. Kaiba is a very goal-oriented person, so the dudes are faced with the challenge of teaching him to enjoy the journey. From the get-go, Kaiba has an issue with meta-gaming and Ryou is trying to work with him on it.

Mokuba meanwhile is a cat-boy rogue causing all kinds of trouble. He's stealing and eavesdropping and spying and sneaking all over the place, so much so that Kaiba's a little worried about what his brother gets up to sometimes when he's not being actively supervised. Mokuba sees the game as a safe way to act out all of his worst impulses in a safe fantasy, so Kaiba's worrying isn't too terribly justified. His backup is a fairy druid, which surprises The Boys because it's so different from his main, but he doesn't offer an explanation.

Duke (a scoundrel at heart) plays a tiefling bard and if it weren't for Mokuba being present for the campaign, he would absolutely be trying to charm and seduce his way through the quest; he's done that before in a campaign that Ryou ran with Duke and a few other of their friends. For that other campaign, Ryou had to invent an STD system in the game for Duke's shenanigans where he had to roll after every encounter to see if he took damage. So, Ryou told Duke ahead of time that he would be keeping that system in this new campaign.

Between that and Mokuba's presence, Duke is forced to behave himself. His backup is an artificer but he didn't fill out the secondary character sheet all the way because he insists that he's not going to die. This makes Kaiba and Mokuba sometimes push him into harm's way just to prove that he jinxed himself. Duke complains to Ryou that they're ganging up on him, and Ryou tells him to finish his backup character before he needs it. Ryou gets his own little revenges on them when his boys don't act like a team, though, and he secretly loves watching them all have to learn to cooperate to get through the main quest (which they do, when Duke isn't busy hosting The Great Orcish Bake-Off and Mokuba isn't accidentally starting gang wars and Seto isn't murdering every side quest-giver for the purpose of "minimizing distractions").

In the end, it's something they all love doing together. Mokuba loves the attention and that he gets treated like an equal. All of them love that they've tricked Seto into a relaxing hobby (trust me, this is relaxing by Seto's standards). Kaiba loves the challenge that Ryou presents as a DM, and he finds new respect for him as a creator in his own right (he already respects him as an artist, but this is different). Whenever a session has to get cancelled, they're all a bit disappointed, and though Kaiba will never tell them, he's cancelled/rescheduled a few business dinners in order to make sure these sessions happened. The one time he cancelled on Pegasus in favor of Monster World, though, he told them, and he was damn proud of himself and he knew they'd be proud of him, and honestly sticking it to Pegasus is always a win for Kaiba.

"Happy birthday, Owain!" Grima said, slipping out from behind a pillar to stop Owain in his tracks. Her bright and warm smile was difficult to keep on her face but she did her very best. She had her arms kept behind her back as well. "Here. I've got a gift for you. Close your eyes and hold out your hands."

Regardless of his response Grima leaves a gift in his hands. Inside the box is a book of poetry. Though the book seems almost impossibly old, the pages fragile and frayed but there were clear attempts to preserve it.

"I found this during my travels before arriving at the academy. They're poems that seem to be from a fabled lost city. What do you think?" Grima watched him closely, an interested look in her eye. The truth was that book was from Grima's own personal collection. She had little problem giving it away if it helped earn trust. Perhaps Owain could decipher the ancient language inside. If nothing, it gave him something to do.

"Hark! The arrival of the famed tactician rouses my mystic blood! It surges forth like a frigid geyser, spraying evil with my heroic powers!"

In other words, he's excited.

Or at least, that's the story he'll be going with. He strikes a pose for the Fell Dragon--both arms laid across his chest in opposite directions, hands splayed open, and back arched for dramatic effect--but deep down, he's wary. He wonders if she ever got to use her gift. That faulty pen and magic ink were sure to inconvenience her, and depending on just how much she used them, he could have put a significant dent in her schemes.

So he assumes, in secret, that she is seeking revenge.

"For me?" he continues, nodding along and closing his eyes as instructed, "You know how to honor your heroes well! With this great boon, nigh an army may stop me in my quest!"

But when she motions to hand him the book, he peeks. Just a crack, his eyes peer open. The slits are hardly distinguishable from actually having shut his eyelids, but they make a world of difference in terms of what he can see. Dark takes note of the tome--how it isn't laced with spikes or poison, how it's just... Ordinary. It's strange.

When Grima explains it, he tries to act surprised.

"Oh? A... Lost city, eh? That's, uh, riveting..." He turns the cover first, inspecting for any signs of a sigil or magic snare designed to lop off his arm. But either his magical perception is lacking, or there is no real danger, for Dark cannot sense anything. Stranger. A fist covers a cough as he turns it back around, before that spare hand moves to rifle through the pages.

"Huh. I can't quite read it. Though I believe I've seen the text before..." Ancient Valmese? Or maybe the first rulers of Regna Ferox. His face contorts in confusion, unable to pinpoint which historical period it all belongs to. Owain turns page after page, looking for something of interest (Maybe a diagram? Maybe a secret note containing the Fell Dragon's plans?) but he finds only words. Such is the content of a poetry novel, after all.

"Ah... AHEM! Making heads or tails of this cryptic writing is the bread and butter of an eldritch scholar such as myself. Rest assured, Robin," he speaks that name with a bit of venom, "I shall have the code cracked in a fraction of a second. There is nothing my enigmatic mind cannot solve!"

It slams shut and enters the protection of his underarm. As Dark turns to be on with his day, he shoots Grima one last look, waving her off as though they were friends again, "You have my thanks for this holy gift! I shan't forget it."

Do It For Her

"We all miss Reisa," my friend told me. "And we all want to see that bastard pay, believe me, but this is too much."

I scanned the faces of all the others who'd joined me in this little meeting. It wasn't just the party's leader talking for himself here. Everyone was worried. All eyes were on me. Ah, they planned this meeting together, didn't they?

"You're right, of course," I responded evenly. "As much as Luce and I love her—loved her—I don't know if she would ever have condoned torture in her name."

"So you'll talk to Luce, then? Do you think she'll listen? She seems so far gone…"

"Yes, I will. She'll see reason," I said.

"Because I don't know what we'll do if she continues down this path. We'll have to stop her."

A few solemn nods all around. Sorrin—the poor kid who'd had to step up and take on the main healer role—found something fascinating to fidget with instead of meeting my gaze. The kid really admired Luce.

Something fundamental had changed for them when they caught a glimpse of just how far Luce was willing to go to track down Reisa's killer. Even I had been shocked; I'd had no idea the knight had the capacity for such bloody-minded ruthlessness buried inside her. She'd always been so high-minded and serious about her principles, yet now the corpses of her victims—gods, she really did have victims now, didn't she?—proved that her quest for vengeance superseded anything else for her.

The party had become afraid of Luce, so instead they hoped to persuade me. I took a moment to compose my words, trying to figure out how to persuade them to withhold judgment against the knight I cared about so deeply.

"She's drowning in grief. Reisa was always the heart of our group, and without her we're all a little lost, right?" There was a desperate edge in my voice that I hoped they interpreted charitably. "But I'm sure I can remind Luce of what's most important. She's not our enemy!" I pleaded for them to hear me.

A hiss from the shadows spoke up. "Are we quite sure about that?"

"What are you implying, Vigus?" I was surprised that our moody—and most ethically flexible—party member, was inclined to care about this sort of intervention at all.

They stepped partially out of the shadows, permitting the dwindling sunlight to fall across the wicked grin on their face. "The whispers on the wind tell me our knight does not intend to shatter the Infernal Core. She means to claim its power for herself, and in doing so become an even greater threat than the one we mean to destroy."

"Bullshit," I snapped, my uncharacteristic swearing gripping everyone's attention. "I don't know what kind of game you're playing here, but you will not drive a wedge between friends to suit your hidden agendas."

Several of the others nodded, some with even more hostility in their eyes than I allowed in my voice. It really took no effort at all to convince them to distrust someone who'd never given any of us much reason to offer trust in the first place. Vigus grimaced, silently stepping back into the darkness.

I addressed the group again. "She will listen to me, I promise."

I still had their trust, it seemed. A wave of palpable relief passed through the rest of the party, body language loosening as my words soothed the tension. It was clear they had not been at all sure whether I would see things their way. After all, Reisa was as much my girlfriend as she was Luce's.

My hands, however, were still clean, and I was always the gentle voice of reason, wasn't I? No wonder they approached me first.

"I'll go see where she is and have a heart-to-heart with her," I told them.

"You were right," I told Luce, approaching the lonely knight who kept herself apart from the rest of the party these days. "They're plotting against you."

She scowled. "What did they say?"

"That you've gone too far, that Reisa isn't worth it, and that they're going to stop you if you don't give up on revenge against her murderer."

Luce tightened her grip on the oversized sword she carried. Even now, with dusk's failing light sliding toward true night, I could see how her jaw clenched in anger. When she spoke, it was with barely suppressed fury at the party's betrayal.

"Nobody stands in my way," she said to me.

I wrapped my arms around her waist. "They were never going to understand. They didn't love her like we do."

She turned in place to look me directly in the face. I saw regret in her eyes, a hint of doubt, and an iron core of determination. "They're a liability."

"What are you saying? They're our friends, Luce."

"No. If they aren't with me, they're against me." She broke away from me, pacing in a circle. "It would be easiest to kill them in their sleep during my watch tonight." She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, and I could see how hard it was for her to plan something that she never would have considered scant months ago.

"Luce…"

"Don't you dare try to stop me. I don't have the heart to… just don't."

The look of murder in her eyes raised goosebumps on my skin. I had never had reason to be afraid of Luce before. She always used to feel safe—not exactly harmless, but a protective presence—yet in this moment she felt like a completely different person. She held herself the way one might hold a blade to my neck, with calm poise that could turn into deadly motion in a blink.

I felt my heart pounding in my chest. Luce waited for my answer.

"Take Vigus out first," I advised. "Somehow they know what you're planning, and I suspect they'll be sleeping with one eye open around you."

The knight stood in silence, absorbing my words. "You're not going to try talking me out of killing our so-called friends?"

"I won't stop you if this is what you want," I said, closing the distance again and stroking her cheek. "But every step you take down this path has to be yours."

She pressed her lips to mine, and I kissed back with all the passion that my pounding heart demanded. She scared me, and somehow that made me want her more than ever.

"Besides," I continued when our mouths parted, "there's nothing hotter than seeing the real you emerge from that stiff and proper exterior you used to present to everyone."

She turned to go, but before she got too far I added, "oh, and please don't wash their blood off your hands before you fuck me tonight."
