“Alright, so... a quad? Want me to get you anything else?” (Y/n) asked as she fetched her wallet out of her fanny pack as soon as the girls entered the café, ever the gentlewoman.
“No. Thank you.” The ravenette replied distractedly, her gaze gliding around the room in search for a vacant table.
Weathervane was seldom ever bustling with customers. It had nothing to do with the popularity of the place, of course, rather with how small the Jericho town actually was – you could catch a number customers filling the space on weekends, but it was never any sort of busy. Maybe that was why (Y/n) always chose it as a perfect date spot, however cliché it may’ve been, and the coffee shop had soon become a familiar place, with the demon girl and her morbid dark – haired partner earning the title of regulars there.
Today was no different. It was a nice warm Saturday afternoon and after taking a small walk around the town and laying on the grass under a tree to enjoy the sun, or rather escape from its scorching presence, as a certain someone would put it, the girls had decided to stop by Weathervane.
As (Y/n) stood in the queue, she watched Wednesday settle into their favorite booth in the corner, close to the window but still a bit secluded thanks to the wall it abutted to. Gently straightening her uniform skirt with a few pats, the girl reached for her small backpack to fish out the book she had been in the middle of reading back at the dorm before she had been so rudely interrupted by the hectic oni who barged in with a huge toothy grin and a sudden daft offer to go on a date.
The thought itself had been revolting to the girl, and she had made sure it had been evident on her face, and yet she had agreed. It had nothing to do with the way (Y/n) had smiled at her, of course, or the way the demon’s slitted eyes had glistened with gentleness and adoration – and also with the way said slits had become pits of pure void, like those of a wild feline stalking its prey, in complete submission to the hunting thrill, as the oni girl had watched Wednesday, awaiting her verdict. None of that, thank you. She simply had nothing better to do with her day.
The ravenette opened the hard cover to find where she left off, content with tuning out the quiet chatter surrounding her, and (Y/n) watched the way the sun’s rays grazed the ravenette’s cheeks, making the gentle sprinkle of freckles stand out on her pale complexion. The demon titled her head, a goofy smile on her face as she observed the girl with adoration – what did she do to deserve her?
“Good afternoon! What can I get you today?”
The oni gave a small startled start, and turned to look at the barista behind the counter – a tall normie blonde girl with a pierced nose and a tattoo on her neck, whom (Y/n) certainly didn’t remember. The tag clipped to her dark – crimson apron read ‘Chloe’, and now the demon was certain she was new.
Well... she’d settle for anyone over Galpin.
“Hi. Uh, just a (insert your usual) and a quad over ice for here,” (Y/n) chuckled upon noticing the barista’s confused expression, “Yeah, it’s four shots of espresso... with ice.”
“That must be the most bitter order I’ll ever make,” the barista shook her head, visibly amused, her pen quickly scribbling over the paper as she wrote the order down, “Anything else?”
The demon’s gaze trailed over to the confections showcase, and she crouched, eyeing the sweet goodies. Among the bright cheesecakes, cookies and milky cake pops displayed she caught sight of a small black cupcake with white skull-shaped sprinkles sitting further away from the glass, practically calling out for her.
Oh, what a perfect little thing.
“And this little goth buddy too, please.” (Y/n) smiled, pointing at the cupcake, careful not to scratch the freshly cleaned surface with her clawed finger.
“That’ll be 7.15. You really are into bitter stuff, aren’t you?” the barista noted, “That’s dark chocolate, you know.”
“Courtesy of my girlfriend’s passionate hate for sugary things.” The demon counted the needed money, handing a 10-dollar banknote over to the barista whose smile seemed to waver a bit but didn’t slip off. The young woman took the green bill, her fingers subtly grazing (Y/n)’s, and moved to count the change.
“So, you go to Nevermore, huh?” she asked, eyeing the oni up and down and noticing a familiar emblem on her jacket, “Isn’t that, like, a school for total weirdos or something?”
(Y/n) grinned, baring her big crooked tusks at the barista, the demon’s brows furrowed in mock disbelief and offence, “Do I not seem like a total weirdo to you?”
The girl laughed, “That depends... Are all of you weirdos this cute?” she asked, smiling flirtatiously, “The teeth are adorable, too. In a way.”
The demon’s grin turned nervous, and she chuckled, lowering her eyes bashfully, “Uh, thanks. That’s not something people say often.”
‘People’ didn’t include her gloomy other half, of course. She remembered the first time they had met, and how slightly intrusive Wednesday had been about her appearance then, but not in a judging, put-off or rude way. It was mere... interest, fascination-like, and (Y/n) couldn’t even try and feel self-conscious where the Addams girl was concerned. Wednesday observed the demon like one would an alien work of art, finding the slight abstractness and monstrosity intriguing.
The ravenette loved her in a way no one else ever could.
The sudden beeping sound of the coffee machine broke the oni out of her thoughts, and she looked up to see the blonde barista slide the glass open to grab the cute black cupcake, placing it on a small plate next to the now filled up cups. Then she took her disposable gloves off, and grabbed her pen to quickly write something down on the receipt with a sly smile, then folded the paper together with the change and handed it to the demon.
“Incase you’d need someone to... sweeten things up a bit.” She said, winking.
(Y/n) raised an eyebrow, completely oblivious, “Uh... Thanks?”
Grabbing the receipt and the food, she made her way back to the booth just in time for Wednesday to subtly glance back at her book as if she had been engrossed in it the whole time, making a show of not paying attention to the other girl.
“Here,” the demon placed Wednesday’s cup and the cupcake on the table in front of her, sliding into the seat next to the small ravenette and pressing a quick peck to her cheek, “Got you something tasty to snack on, too.”
Putting the book away from her eyes, Wednesday eyed the cupcake suspiciously before looking up at (Y/n), “What is this?”
“A cupcake! Look how pretty it is,” the taller girl gushed, pointing at the sprinkles, “Cute little skulls! It matches your aesthetic perfectly, I thought you’d like it.”
Wednesday squinted, glaring at the pastry with disgust thinly veiled, before burying her nose back in her book, “What a revolting assumption.”
Long since used to the ravenette’s emotional range, (Y/n) shrugged, taking no offence at her indifference, “Suit yourself. You don’t have to eat it.” She said, casually taking a sip of her drink and reaching to take the plate away.
A small pale hand darted over to the dish, and the demon girl watched, grinning behind her cup, as Wednesday quickly moved the cupcake closer to herself, “No, it’s mine. Back off.”
“Sorry, sorry,” the oni raised her hand in mock surrender, “I thought you said you didn’t want it.”
“You must be hearing things then.” Wednesday mumbled, carefully unwrapping the pastry and taking a small bite, munching on it like a grumpy mouse.
Leaning her cheek on her fist, the demon watched the girl eat, admiration lacing her expression, “So? How’s it?”
The ravenette swallowed with a frown, a small blush dusting her cheeks, and quickly averted her gaze, “It’s... tolerable. Thank you, (Y/n).” She replied quietly.
“No problem. I’m glad you like it.”
Wednesday took another bite, letting her taste buds savor the delicious bitter chocolate, then looked up at the oni girl, “Would you... Would you like to try?” she asked hesitantly, making (Y/n)’s grin widen.
“Sure.”
The smaller girl watched as the demon leaned in, burying her big teeth in the cupcake still in Wednesday’s hands, careful not to bite too much of the pastry off, before leaning back to chew with a thoughtful look. A small grunt escaped the demon’s mouth as she pursed her lips, shaking her head.
“Yuck. Too bitter for me. I like the sprinkles, though.” She spoke with her mouth full.
“Swallow before speaking, you chocolate connoisseur.”
(Y/n) barked out a laugh, startling some of the coffee shop’s patrons, then raised her hand to her mouth, the sharp tip of her rough tongue slithering out to lick her thumb, “Hold up,” she said, moving to gently brush the now wet finger against the corner of Wednesday’s burgundy lips, carefully cleaning off a smudge of dark cream, “There. You had some on your face.”
The demon could swear she could see gears working in Wednesday’s head before she put the cupcake back on the plate and grabbed (Y/n) by the lapels of her uniform jacket suddenly, tugging her down and pressing her lips against the oni’s.
(Y/n) let out a small muffled gasp of surprise but didn’t resist, closing her eyes and instantly melting into the kiss, tasting chocolate on Wednesday’s plush mouth. Before the sweet smooch could turn into a full make out session, the small ravenette pulled away.
“There. Now you’ve got some on your face, too.” A small devilish smile made its way to Wednesday’s face as the demon blushed, caught off - guard.
As (Y/n) busied herself with trying to cool her cheeks off, the color still evident on the demon’s complexion despite her attempts at hiding it, Wednesday sneaked a glance at the girl behind the counter, and caught her watching the ravenette already. As their gazes met, Wednesday’s turned into a dark unnerving glare, and she stared at the barista, unblinking. The other girl squinted, scoffing, before turning back to the coffee machine.
That’s right. Know your place.
Tumblr media
(Y/n) sat in the booth, twiddling her phone in her hands, desperate to pass the time as she stared out the window longingly, waiting for her girlfriend to come. When they had made it to Jericho an hour ago, Wednesday proposed they split in order to finish their business quicker – the ravenette claimed she needed ink for her typewriter and some other things she was sure (Y/n) would get bored of looking for, and, albeit reluctantly, the demon had agreed to part ways. After some time spent wandering the streets and visiting some shops, the oni ended up at Weathervane, and now, with zero ways to communicate with Wednesday, she was left waiting for her where they had agreed to meet up.
(Y/n) watched people pass by on the street and sighed when she didn’t recognize any of them as the short dark – haired girlfriend. She turned back to check the time, contemplating getting something to drink while she was there, when a cheery voice called out.
“Hey!”
The sudden sound made the demon look up, and she saw a familiar blonde girl make way to her booth, a grin on her face.
“Oh, uh, hi. Chloe, was it?” (Y/n) said with uncertainty.
“Yep. You never told me your name though,” the girl faked a pout, and moved to slide into the seat next to the demon, making the taller girl freeze uncomfortably, “Just like you never texted me! I was waiting, you know.”
“Uh... Was I supposed to?”
“Would’ve been nice. It’s okay though, I’m rather experienced with those who play hard-to-get,” Chloe chuckled, her eyes trailing down as she seemingly checked the demon out, and (Y/n) could feel an angry vein pulse at her forehead, “So, what are you doing here all by yourself, hm?”
“I’m with my girlfriend, actually.” The demon replied through gritted teeth.
“Oh, really?” The blonde smirked, leaning closer to the demon, “I don’t see her.”
Before the oni could utter a reply, a pale hand landed on Chloe’s shoulder, gripping painfully and making the girl squeal and turn her head to look at the culprit.
“Excuse me. This is my seat.”
Wednesday was looming over the blonde, her gaze unsettling as she stared down at the other girl, practically drilling her with her eyes.
“And this,” her manicured fingers sunk into her with strength almost enough to puncture the flesh, “Is mia donna.”
“What the hell?!” the blonde exclaimed, wringing her shoulder out of Wednesday’s hold to get up, her frame towering over the ravenette’s smaller one, “What’s your fucking problem?”
“My problem is with an annoying little rodent who touches what clearly doesn’t belong to her,” Wednesday deadpanned, tilting her head in a rather menacing way, “And do you know what a rodent is? A pest. Pests get exterminated.”
Feeling the situation escalate, (Y/n) was quick to rise from her seat as well, afraid of what might happen to the blonde if she didn’t intervene, “Uh... ‘Day, we really shouldn’t – “
“Sit down, (Y/n).”
Wednesday’s stern timbre made the demon girl land back on the couch obediently without a single retort, hands on her lap. Yep. She valued her own life more.
Thankfully, the piercing glare and the murderous aura of the small ravenette seemed to make the blonde rethink some of her decisions, as she scoffed and moved to walk past Wednesday, pushing her with her shoulder, “Whatever. I don’t even want to bother with you.”
Wednesday watched the girl go back to her counter, then turned to look at (Y/n), looking calm and collected once again as if nothing had happened, “I’m done with my errands. Are you ready to go?”
The demon nodded mutely, too afraid to speak, and got up to follow the ravenette out of the coffee shop.
Tumblr media
The walk back to the bus stop was quiet. Wednesday looked like she was lost in thought, and (Y/n) didn’t want to intrude – but there was worry nagging at her gut. Inching closer to the small girl, she reached her hand out to lightly graze her fingers over Wednesday’s palm, making her flinch. Wednesday stared at her hand for a moment, then slowly moved to entwine her digits with (Y/n)’s, her eyes never meeting the oni’s.
(Y/n) smiled, giving a gentle affectionate squeeze, “What’s on your mind, snookums?”
Wednesday was silent for a moment, and when she finally spoke, her voice was unusually quiet, “I never seem to deal with how much you’re on... demand with girls. While it doesn’t exactly make me feel insecure, it is... bothering me. A little bit.”
“Well, first of all, there’s no demand. You’re the one to talk, too,” the demon girl chuckled, recalling the bitter – sweet memories of her pathetic pining after the ravenette, “And second of all, what girls are we talking about here? I only ever see one. A talented, intelligent, murderously gorgeous girl who tore my bleeding heart out of my ribcage and has been holding it in her palms ever since.”
The heart – felt statement made Wednesday look up, and her grey eyes met (Y/n)’s. Fondness swirled in the (e/c) pools, and the ravenette felt that awful sensation of butterflies crawl into her stomach, almost making her double over. She quickly averted her gaze, red warming her cheeks.
“You seem to be experiencing some terrible vision problems. Maybe we should make you an appointment with an ophthalmologist.” She muttered grumpily, making the oni laugh at the half – hearted insult.
As they kept walking, Wednesday reached her hand still holding (Y/n)’s up to her face and pressed her lips against the back of the demon's palm. When she pulled away, there was a rather noticeable dark mark of her lipstick left on the oni’s skin, and a satisfied smile made its way to Wednesday’s face at the sight.
Mine.

Paul with a !Trad goth! Reader
Tumblr media
(NOT MY PHOTO, FOUND IT ON PINTEREST. And yes I know it’s a little goofy, but so is Paul ❤️)
- Paul is a firecracker, we all know that (and so does all of Santa Carla.)
- And frankly, he doesn’t have any shame. When he sees a girl he likes he does whatever his partially smooth brain tells him to
- Meeting you was different though, you were different. Your beautiful features were covered in a white base, and painted on features made Paul go hot in the face (which he was bullied profusely for.)
- He’s blushing like a schoolboy if you give him any type of compliment, It could be about his hair, shoes, or even his voice!
- David was actually the one who got you two together. He was sick and tired of Paul rambling about you, and honestly told you how Paul actually felt to try and embarrass him.
- Little did the jackass know, you thought it was kinda dorky (in a good way.), considering you had heard how Paul could be.
- The interaction the next night definitely confused Paul, why were you so.. Confident all of a sudden? But the blond was definitely not going to say no to getting something to eat with you!
- As the sun rose, Paul walked back into the cave with a black lipstick mark on his cheek, and a goofy grin.
DATING HEAD-CANNONS!!!
- Paul likes to sit between your legs, his chin rested on your shoulder while you do his makeup. He finds it very soothing, to look up at your bare, scrunched up in concentration face.
- Making each-other CD’s
- ^ which includes introducing each-other to artists
- hanging out with Marko
- Big dog privileges (he will beat the shit out of someone if they even look at you the wrong way.)
- Boardwalk dates
- Tons of kisses, Even more, if you have birthmarks/Moles on your face.
- Stealing eachothers clothes
- Swedish pet names (Älskling, Käraste, Hjärtat.)
- If your one of the goths who believe in dancing the way that the music makes you feel, he thinks it’s freakin cool! Loves to watch you express yourself.

Reader:
"Fuck".
You groaned, throwing your arm over your face to block out the single ray of sunlight that found its way through the small crack in the curtain and directly into your eyes. Had your bladder not been so full from all of the drinking you had done the previous night, you would have just rolled over and continued to sleep, but unfortunately there was no other option but to get up and take care of business.
You slowly sat up, testing the waters on how severe your hangover was going to be this morning. Slight headache, nothing a couple of Advil couldn't handle, but your mouth felt as dry as the Sahara desert. How can you be so thirsty when you drank so much last night? At least you had known when to stop, thankful that the little voice inside your head had sounded the warning bell, letting you know if you have one more drink your going to be puking your guts out all night. You would take a little headache over that any day.
You carefully crawled out of bed, as not to wake Lisa who had been sleeping beside you. Although upon further inspection you found your friend to be dead to the world, mouth open and snoring, blonde hair splayed out and a fake eyelash stuck to her cheek. You smirked. Girl was a hot mess, but you knew that she would wake up, carry on as usual and do it all over again tonight. Bless her heart.
You quietly krept to the bathroom to relieve yourself and change out of your dress from the night before, you wanted comfort. The dress had been pretty and sexy but you were sick of feeling like your ass was hanging out so you opted for an old hoodie that you had stolen from Eddie and some leggings. You snuggled into the shirt, breathing in the faint scent of his soap and aftershave. You sighed. What you wouldn't give to be writhing under him in ecstasy right now, his breath warm on your neck as he whispered the dirtiest things into your ear, fucking you into the bed......
You thirsted for this man, you craved him and you couldn't get enough of him.
You grabbed a bottle of water and chugged it, at least you could quench this thirst, then grabbed the phone off the night stand beside the bed and dragged it across the floor until the cord couldn't stretch any further. You opened the sliding glass door and went out onto the balcony to make a phone call, figuring it would be the quietest option. You slid the door closed as far as you could behind you and took in a deep breath of fresh morning air before dialing the phone.
It rang twice and then you heard the deep, smooth sound of his voice." Hello?"
You smiled to yourself." Good morning baby."
" Well good morning Sweetheart." You could almost hear his smile in his voice." What are you doing up at the ass crack of dawn? You should still be in bed with a hangover right now Dollface."
" I'm trying to pace myself darling, I'm not much of a party animal. You know me, I prefer wine tipsy to black out drunk."
" I fucking love it when you are wine tipsy, Sugar. Your fucking giggle, your goofy smile, fucking adorable."
" Not to mention the fact that I can't keep my hands off you-"
" That's not any different than usual-"
You laughed." Ok, you got me there. Your just so fucking irresistible."
He chuckled." That's me Eddie ' fucking irresistible ' Munson. I guess it's better than being the freak. How are the other girls doing?"
" They are all passed out, snoring- those girls can party . Suzie is heading home today, she is afraid of leaving Dustin alone with the kids. I told her he would be fine , he is one of the most capable people I know but I think she misses her babies."
" So Robin and Vikki and Nance still got it?"
" They are seasoned professionals. Oh! I saw your son out at the club last night."
"On the prowl? He has turned into quite the man whore now..."
" He's sowing his wild oats or however that goes . "
" He's fucking everything that walks."
" I still can't believe he had sex with Chrissy-"
" I can't even think about that. Fucking around with married women, even if her husband is the biggest fucking prick in the world-."
" It was her decision too, I'm just glad she didn't try to sink her claws into you. I would have had to beat a bitch."
Eddie burst out laughing." Jesus! You would never have to worry about that Muffin because I don't want anyone but you."
" That's good because your stuck with me." You twirled the cord around your finger." Whatcha doing today?"
" House shit. Fixing the stairs on the front of the house, mowing the lawn-"
" Goddamn it, I'm going to miss it!"
" Miss what?"
" The manbun, the tool belt hung low on your slutty waist, the sweat glistening off your body-"
" Woah, down girl." He chuckled." Does me being domestic really do it for you?"
" Are you kidding me? You using power tools and putting the pencil behind your ear to mark when your measuring, holy shit!"
" Well you will get your fill next summer when we build the new deck out back."
" I'll be bringing you lemonade and wiping the sweat from your brow and watching the show."
" Is that so?"
" No I will totally help out. You know how good I am with a tool, and even better at screwing."
He laughed again, his laugh was one of your most favorite sounds in the world, well other than the sound he made when he orgasmed." I fucking love you."
" I fucking love you too Edward Munson." You smiled." Do you miss me?"
" Of course I miss you Sweetheart. It's fucking cold and lonely in our bed at night without you in it. I sleep like shit."
" You should sleep great without me hogging all the bed-"
" No, I miss my koala bear wrapping herself around me, keeping me warm."
" Aww, Baby. Your coming to pick me up tomorrow , right?"
" Abso-fucking-lutely. " He paused." I'm going to fuck your brains out when we get home-"
" Uh, yeah,  I do believe you promised to 'fucking destroy me.' I'm looking forward to it."
" You have no fucking idea." You could hear the promise in his voice and it gave you chills." So what is on the agenda for today?"
" Recovery for a majority of the girls, spa day and dinner and clubbing tonight."
" Strip club tonight?"
" Yeah, I'm fucking nervous. "
Eddie laughed." What for?"
" You don't think it would be awkward having a stranger waving his junk in your face and crawling all over you?"
" I think it would be very awkward if a stranger was waving his junk in my face-"
" You know what I mean!"
" Listen Kitten if you don't want a lap dance, tell them you don't want a lap dance."
" Have you ever had one?"
"Yeah, it was...nice at the time, but you gotta remember Darling that I was single for a long time and rarely had an opportunity to see titties. It will be fine. Pre game before you go and if your uncomfortable fucking leave "
" Your not mad that they are taking me?"
" I don't love that some fucking young stud with a body like a fucking Greek god is going to be dancing and flopping his dick around my wife, but that being said I love you and I trust you, and I'm not worried. Everyone has got to go to a strip club once in their life. You might as well go with your friends. "
"I guess." You sighed." I miss you."
" I miss you too Love."
" I suppose I should let you go now. I think I am going to run out and get a round of coffees for my girls."
" That's sweet. I hope you have a ton of fun today."
" Thanks Baby. Good luck on the house projects."
" Thanks Princess. Make sure someone gets a picture of you in that fucking hot ass outfit you showed me. Your going to look fucking dynamite."
" I will. I love you Mr. Munson."
" I love you too Mrs. Munson."
" Bye Baby!"
" Bye Sweetcheeks."
You hung up the phone and quietly made your way back into the room. Not a creature was stirring so you grabbed your purse and went on a mission to find java.
When you came back Nancy and Robin were stirring in the adjoining room, while Vikki, Suzie and Lisa still slept.
" Your an Angel, you know that?" Robin smiled wearily as you handed her the cup.
Nancy lightly blew into the opening of the travel mug, then took a sip." This is perfect. Thank you."
"Figured you guys could use it. You guys can party hard." You smiled at them.
" Cause we don't get out much, gotta take advantage of every opportunity." Robin also took a sip and nodded." That's the shit right there. So tonight, it's your turn Sweets, it's our mission. "
You gulped. Yikes.
**********************************************************
The day had been lovely, facials and massages and mimosas then shopping and dinner. Between the full body massage and the champagne you were feeling absolutely incredible, loose and relaxed.
Your friends had all rallied and were ready for another night out on the town, with the exception of Suzie, she went back home to be with her babies and Dustin but had been very grateful for a night away.
Tonight was another night for sequins and glitter, another night to get dolled up, though tonight's outfit wasn't as risque as last nights was and you were glad for that. It was still sexy, but more comfortable. You had chosen a white sequin jumpsuit with spaghetti straps and a deep cowl neck, at least you wouldn't have to worry about flashing your ass at everyone tonight. The suit fit you like a second skin. You wore a sexy pair of stilettos, and your hair and make up were on point.
The whole group looked spectacular and while waiting at the hotel for a cab, you asked the Hostess to take a group photo, so that you could capture this moment forever. These girls were the best and you were lucky to have them.
You felt your stomach doing flip flops as they walked you to a table in the dimly lit Strip club. It was dark the music was blasting and there were young men in G-strings every where. On the stage there was a woman practically getting dry humped in front of the crowd.
You turned to Lisa, grabbing her arm." Please don't make me go up on stage!"
She laughed."I promise. But your totally getting a dance."
Your group sat at a large table and ordered a round of shots. You were glad, you were going to need it.
" Even though guys aren't my thing, I certainly do have an appreciation for the male physique." Robin smirked and Vikki laughed.
" They can be very nice to look at."
You let your eyes wonder around the room. Yes the men were in great shape and yes they were young and attractive, but nothing compared to what you had at home. Eddie, with his tattoos and his abs and his muscular arms, he was trim and toned, but not big and bulky. He was fucking perfect and you would pick him every second of every goddamn day over any of the guys here.
" Oh my God they are so fucking hot!" Lisa clapped excitedly." I want one!"
" They are so goddamn young! I bet you these boys are only a couple years older than my son's!" Nancy exclaimed.
" I bet your boys could make some decent money for college-" Robin smirked.
" Robin!"
" What they run around half naked most of the time anyway-"
" I am surprised my son isn't a stripper-" You started and the girls fucking lost it.
You were all still laughing when the waitress brought over your shots .
" I would love to propose a toast to the beautiful Mrs Munson, may you live a long life filled with love , hot sex and wedded bliss. Cheers!" Lisa held her shot glass in the air and we all clinked our little glasses together then threw back our shots.
You had to admit that these men had talent. The moves, the timing, all impressive during the stage show, and the dancing was incredible.
When Lisa waved down one of the gentlemen for your lap dance you took a deep breath and tried to be cool.
" Hello Beautiful." The man said smoothly.
" Please be gentle, it's her first time." Lisa winked at the man.
He flashed her a sexy smile then turned his attention onto you." Don't be nervous, gorgeous, just sit back and relax. Let me dance for you."
" Uh, sure. Its nice to meet you." You extended your hand to shake his but instead he kissed your knuckles.
" It's nice to meet you too." He winked and started dancing in front of you, gyrating and moving his hips. You felt a blush creep up your neck to your face. You focused on his eyes.
Lisa laughed at you then whispered," Your allowed to look at him you know, that is the whole point."
" But we've just met. It feels rude!"
" I assure you Miss it's not rude at all." The stripper danced closer to you, " I like all the attention. Pretty girls like you staring at me all night-" he leaned in close to your ear." That's why I do it."
" Your very good at your job. I'm sorry I'm so awkward-"
" You're doing just fine."
Lisa handed you a wad of dollar bills." Pay the man."
You stuck out the stack and he smirked and nodded down to his G-string. " Just slip them right in Sweets."
You watched as the other women tucked them beneath the waist of his fancy underwear and you followed suit. He danced on you for another minute than took your hands, kissing the tops of them and backed away.
" Thank you."
"It was my pleasure Miss." He pointed to the veil and sash that your friends insisted that you wore again." Congratulations."
You smiled." Thanks. Have a great night!"
He winked then strutted over to the next table.
" There, was that so bad?" Lisa asked.
" No, it was fine, weird but fine."
" Are you ready to leave now?"
"Yup!"
The girls laughed and finished their drinks and we peaced out of the strip club and moved on to the dance club where we proceeded to party the night away.
**********************************************************
" Jesus Christ, I look like fucking shit."
Lisa laughed as she came up behind you and rested her chin on your shoulder. " We told you we were going to get you drunk. Mission accomplished."
Mission accomplished all right. The dance club was absolute mayhem last night, there was not a moment where you did not have some sort of drink in your hand, and with the liquid courage on board you busted out the dance moves you didn't even know that you had, you even swung around a pole like a stripper causing your friends to cheer along with people you had never met, thank God , and hopefully would never see again.
The rest of the night after that was a blur. You remembered stumbling through the hotel and into your room, eating a ton of snacks then passing out on the bed. Surprisingly enough you didn't throw up, you credit that to the snacks you consumed soaking up all the alcohol you drank, but you did wake up with one hell of a hangover. You popped some meds, chugged some water and prayed that you felt better by the time your husband arrived to pick you up. You loved your girls but you were ready to wrap your arms around Eddie.
" How's our girl feeling this morning?" Robin asked entering from the adjoining room, Nancy and Vikki close behind.
" Shitty, but it was worth it. Thank you ladies for a wonderful night. It was fun, well what I can remember of it." You smirked.
" The way you worked that pole-"
You groaned." I'm so embarrassed!"
" You shouldn't be, you killed it!"
" Oh , I'm sure! " You laughed.
" Eddie would have loved it!" Nancy smiled
" Are you kidding? He would have lost his shit!" Robin smirked.
" I doubt it."
Lisa smiled." I have never seen a man look at a woman the way that Eddie looks at you."
" All heart eyes and dimples. It's fucking adorable."
" It's so nice to see him finally happy, like really truly happy."
You sighed. " I love him so much. I'm fucking obsessed."
Your best friend smirked." Like we couldn't tell. You guys can't keep your hands off each other. Don't think we don't notice when you guys sneak off to have sex."
You felt a blush wash over your face." I have never had a lover like Eddie, he's.... incredible." You bit your lip than looked over at Robin and Nancy." Sorry if that is weird to hear, I mean you guys practically grew up together-"
Robin shrugged." Not a total shocker, the boy has to be the best at everything he does-"
" Like when Master of Puppets came out and he practiced every possible minute until he had mastered it, you know how hard that song is to play-" Nancy added.
" And he has insane attention to detail, I'm sure that translates over to the bedroom."
" Trust me it does " You smiled. "He knows exactly what I want. I swear it is his sixth sense."
" I want a Mr. Munson too!" Lisa pouted. " All these guys I go out with are chumps compared to Eddie. He is a gentleman that knows how to treat a lady and the man, he's sexy a hell."
" He is now, if you had only seen him in highschool, jumping up on tables and lecturing the masses on forced conformity, dude was a nerd and a menace." Robin laughed." Everyday we would sit back and wonder what shit he was going to pull."
" I wish I could have known him then." You sighed again." I can't wait to see him!"
" I remember when I couldn't wait to see Steve, when we used to sneak off and have adventurous sex, having four kids really put a damper on that though." Nancy laughed." I wouldn't change a thing though, but thank God we smartened up and decided against having six kids."
You smiled." You seem to have everything so well balanced."
" That is because Steve is an amazing partner, he promised he would be there every step of the way, and he has been."
" Does he still give you butterflies?"
She smiled." Every damn day."
Robin smirked at Vikki." Do I still give you butterflies, my love?"
" Maybe every other damn day." Vikki smiled. "Your a lot to handle."
Robin laughed." That's my girl."
" I want love like that!" Lisa exclaimed.
You looked at the clock on the nightstand. " Oh my God! My man will be here in less than an hour! I look like a hag, I need to pull myself together!"
" He loves you no matter how you look."
" I know that! It's just, he is going to stroll in looking incredible and I am going to look like a fucking troll! "
You jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom to wash last nights makeup from your face, throw your hair up into a bun and to put a light application of makeup on. Your eyes were still puffy but maybe by the time he got here they would be better. You knew that you were doing this purely out of your own vanity, the girls were right Eddie would love you no matter what.
" Does this look better?"
Robin rolled her eyes. " You looked fine to begin with, your 'bad face day' is better than my 'good face day'. You're still in your twenties! You look fantastic all the fucking time! You could run a marathon and still look fabulous!"
" I just want to look nice." You smiled and took the tiny shimmery dress out of your bag from a couple nights before.
" You're wearing THAT home?"
" Yes, Eddie went absolutely Gaga over it. He asked me to wear it for him," You bit your lip, "He thought it was sexy and he wants to fuck me in it. He has been so lonely this weekend, who am I to deny him...." You smirked.
"Oooooohhhh!" All the girls  said together in chorus, smiling.
" We know what your doing when you get home!" Lisa fanned her face." You're going to get it....."
" I'm soooo going to get it."
They all cheered again and you shook your head smiling.
" Now if you'll excuse me, I must change."
**********************************************************
Your friends waited patiently with you in the lobby for Eddie to arrive, and the man, as always was very punctual.
" Watch the look on his face when he sees her-" You heard Robin whisper to Vikki.
Then you heard Nancy," Butterflies for sure."
" Goddamn, your husband looks like a rockstar.." Lisa was the last to comment.
She wasn't wrong. Holy shit were you a lucky woman.
Eddie strolled through the door, brown curls wild from the breeze, aviator sunglasses sat on the bridge of his nose, he wore an Alice in chains sleeveless T-shirt that hugged his trim frame, his muscular, tatted arms on full display, tight black jeans and boots, he was a fucking vision. But the best part, hands down was his smile, so bright , and those fucking dimples-
" There's my girl, I missed you so much." Instantly his arms were around you, pulling you close, as he nuzzled into your neck." You're wearing it." He whispered.
" I told you I would." You whispered back .
He pulled away smiling and lightly kissed your lips. " I trust you ladies had a wonderful weekend?"
" It was magical. Especially the part where your wife swung around a stripper pole-"
"Robin!"
"What? You were amazing for a novice."
Eddie's eyebrows raised and he smirked." You did what?"
" These guys had me so drunk! I'm not proud -"
" Fuck, and I missed it?! Damn, I bet you looked real sexy Kitten."
" Again, I was drunk and not super graceful."
" Really let your hair down, didn't ya babycakes?
I'm real proud of you."
" And my pounding head is the proof of it."
He smiled widely." I've got the perfect cure for that." He winked at you and your stomach did flip flops." Let's get you home Princess, so you can rest."
" Yeah, you better get home so you can 'rest'." Robin smirked.
Eddie smirked back " Gotta take care of my Princess."
" Your going to take care of her all right." Lisa winked.
" Y'all are perverts." He chuckled, than picked up your bag and threw it over his shoulder." Ready Darlin?"
You nodded then quickly gave your girlies hugs. " I can't thank you guys enough, this weekend was absolutely amazing. You girls are the best!"
You said your goodbyes and  slid an arm around your husbands waist. He slid his sunglasses carefully onto your face, knowing that they would help against the bright sun outside then kissed the tip of your nose. He turned and waved goodbye to the girls.
" See you soon Ladies, take it easy!"
" Bye Eddie!" They all said in unison then laughed.
He pulled you close and the two of you walked out to your old, but reliable small car. He opened your car door and pulled a flannel out and slipped it over your shoulders before you got inside.
"Thank you baby."
" Your welcome Sweetheart." He made sure you were carefully tucked in before closing the door than he climbed into the driver's seat. " So I wasn't sure what stage of hangover I would find you in sooo, I brought Tylenol, a Gatorade, a coffee and a breakfast sandwich for you. " He lifted a brown paper bag and pointed to the coffee and the Gatorade in the cup holder." I wanted to cover all the bases for a quick recovery." He grinned widely.
You leaned forward in your seat and took his face in your hands." Just when I thought I couldn't possibly love you anymore..." You kissed him." This is so sweet Baby."
" Like I said, gotta take care of my girl."
You smiled and squeezed his thigh. " Thank you."
" That's what husbands are for. Now why don't you fill me on this weekend while you eat your breakfast?"
You took a big sip of coffee and it was hot and absolutely perfect. You opened up the bag and took out two breakfast sandwiches, unwrapped one for Eddie then dug into the other while you recounted the events of the weekend.
The food and coffee in conjunction with the Advil you had taken earlier had helped immensely, and you could feel your headache starting to disappear.
" Feeling better Princess? " Eddie asked, rubbing your leg.
" So much better, baby."
" I'm glad Darlin."
" I know what will make me feel even better though."
Eddie looked over at you, eyebrow raised, smirk on his face." And what would that be Angel?"
" What does your sixth sense tell you Edward?"
" I can say without hesitation that you need a good fucking. "
" You think that's what I need?" You smiled.
"I don't think, I fucking know Sugar." You felt his fingers walk up your inner thigh, dip under the hem of your dress, then slip between your legs- you bit your lip. "Fuck Kitten, your not wearing any panties?" He took his eyes off the road for another brief second, a sexy smirk on his face. "That's my dirty fucking girl, you must want it real fucking bad."
" You know I do baby, so fucking bad."
He turned his attention back to the road, but his fingers remained and slid between your slick folds, where he found your sensitive bud and started circling it with his finger. "How's that my love? Better?"
You moaned." Eddie-" you took the flannel off your shoulders and covered your lap out of modesty.
" Don't worry Babygirl, we are almost home then I will give you exactly what you fucking need ."
You rested your head back on the seat and bit your lip as you watched him drive carefully ,as if nothing was going on, like he wasn't fucking you with his fingers. You knew he was good at multitasking but...." Eddie!"
You watched a smile spread across his face. "Aww, what's the matter Sweetheart? Getting close?"
" Mmmmhhhhmmm-"
" So close to the edge that you can't find your words? Well go ahead Angel, go ahead and cum. Make a mess on my fingers, make a mess of that dress-"
Your head was fuzzy. Your core was aching, you were so close."Baby I-" You groaned.
" Just fucking let go. God, your making me so fucking hard right now-" he applied a little more pressure to your clit sending you right over the edge. You gasped, the coil inside you snapping. You squirmed in your seat one hand clenched onto his thigh, the other holding onto the door. Thank fucking God the majority of the ride had been on roads with little traffic, not that you really cared, not when he made you feel so good.
" There, my sweet, needy girl. Is that better?Your so fucking sexy. God I can't wait to fuck you." He smiled and wiped his slick covered fingers on his jeans as you recovered.
" I can't believe you did that." You shook your head, smirking.
" What? " He asked innocently." Got you off while driving? Excellent hand eye coordination  remember?" He winked. " I seem to remember someone giving me a blowjob while I was driving down the road once-"
" But that was a dirt road."
" This just made it a little more exciting." He turned onto your street and you felt your heart racing again.
" Baby, do you want me to suck your cock-"
" That's sweet Dollface, but right now, what I really need is that pretty little pussy. I've really fucking missed her."
Eddie pulled into the driveway and in just moments the two of you were running into the house, desperate to get your hands on each other.
Before the door was even closed Eddie had you pinned against the wall, mouth crushing yours as your nimble fingers undid his belt, then his pants. You could feel how hard he was, his dick pressing against your leg.
" Need you, right fucking now-" Eddie mumbled against your lips, picking you up and carrying you into the bedroom . He set you down on the bed and you wasted no time tugging down his pants, his erection springing free.
You couldn't help yourself, you leaned forward and took him into your mouth, he groaned and fisted your hair in his hand, as you bobbed your head back and forth, taking him all in.
" F-fuck Princess," he stuttered as you licked his length, swirling your tongue around the tip, lapping up the bead of pre- cum and then closing your lips around him again."Jesus Christ, that feels so fucking good, but Darlin-"
You pulled off with a pop." I know Baby , I just wanted a taste-" You watched him kick off his pants, strip off his shirt. His chest was heaving and he had a feral look in his eye.
He ran his hands up your thighs, hiking up your dress then pulled you to the edge of the bed and buried himself inside you in one swift movement. You gasped, reeling in the feeling of him inside you, the stretching, the fullness.
Eddie moaned as he withdrew then pounded back into you again, then again, his big hands grabbing hold of your hips." My girl, taking my cock so well-"
" Give it to me, Eddie."
And he did. He drilled into you hard and fast, the sensation was enough to make your head spin, your fists clenching the sheets as he fucked you hard into the bed.You knew it wouldn't take long at this pace for you to reach your release.
" Oh God,oh God, oh god-" You chanted as you got closer and closer to climax, as he hit the sensitive spot inside you relentlessly over and over again.
" So fucking good , Babygirl. Fuck- " Eddie rambled, his hips snapping into you. " You feel so fucking good."
You could feel yourself spiraling out of control, feeling the shockwaves of ecstasy washing over you as you shouted his name, your walls clenching around him like a vice.
" Fuckfuckfuck-" The obscenities spilled from his beautiful lips as he chased his own release, his thrusts slowing ,sloppy until he collapsed on top of you completely spent.
You wrapped your arms around him pulling his sweaty body close, brushing his hair back from his sticky neck and feathering him with light kisses on his neck and shoulder.
" I love you." He whispered, picking his head up and bringing his lips to yours. The kiss was so soft, so slow, his hands coming up to lightly cup your face, the gesture so sweet and gentle." Are you alright Sweet girl?"
You smiled up at him." I am absolutely wonderful Mr. Munson."
His eyes searched yours." Are you sure? I was a little rough, I'm sorry-"
" Baby don't apologize, it was fucking incredible." You smiled dreamily." It was exactly what I needed. Baby, I have been dreaming of this ever since you told me you were going to fucking destroy me in this dress. I love it when we make love and it's sweet and soft, but sometimes a girl's just gotta get fucking railed."
He smiled down at you." I'm always happy to oblige." He kissed the tip of your nose than carefully rolled off you. " I'm so happy your home Sweetheart."
You rolled onto your side and slowly traced the spider tattoo on his chest with your finger, then lightly ran your hand down further to his abs where your fingertips lightly danced. You watched as his core muscles quivered under your touch. "Eddie Munson you are the sexiest man I have ever seen."
" What about the strippers at the club?" He smirked.
" While their dancing skills were quite impressive, none of them could hold a candle to you Baby."
" Speaking of dancing skills, when are you going to pole dance for me?" He smiled.
" I wish Robin and never mentioned it, I am trying to block it out!"
" I want you to dance for me sometime-"
" I dance all the time-"
" No like, dance for me." He licked his lips.
" There will need to be a lot of tequila involved-"
Eddie laughed." I just happen to have a brand new bottle. But in the meantime," He reached over and slid the strap of your shimmery dress down your arm, then leaned forward and kissed and nipped at your shoulder, giving you goosebumps." Why don't I strip you out of this dress and draw you a nice relaxing bath?"
" Sounds wonderful, will you join me?"
" Of course! Someone has to scrub your back and wash your hair."
" You spoil me Mr.Munson."
" I'm supposed to Mrs. Munson, I made a vow and I take it very," he kissed your forehead, "Very," he kissed your lips," Seriously."
" To have and to hold Baby."
" To have and to hold Sweetheart."

okay, okay hear me out real quick, Persephone, her body type would be more hour glass but smaller booba because i think it fits her, but her is beautiful because not only is she a goddess but many gods have tried to seduce her, I also believe that her cloths would be a little revealing but she doesn’t quite understand it because she wears it because it’s hot for her( but in my head canon it’s freezing in the underworld so she bundles up with Hades) she also wears a lot of white, orange, light green, pale pink, and pale blue, and gold, because the colors of spring her sling is surprisingly pale because she is the goddess of spring, but it plainly keeps her gentle look and nature, she DOES understand being intimate because *cough* Hades…but she only really understands the love and gentle touch of it, so like celestial love and lust for her husband and her husband only. She is a red head with natural blond highlights mixed in with green eyes can change my mind(she also doesn’t really like the nickname Kore, but mortals called her that thinking she was a maiden) DEMETER APPROVES OF HADES!!!! He isn’t like his brothers at all he may have had past relationships sure but he is loyal and is absolutely in love with his wife, and his a proud father of his children( he did take a blow for his son from the fates, so he has like black vain scars because sadly Zaggreus was a miscarriage and that broke Persephone so much so Hades went to the fates to get him back but Zaggy can’t leave the underworld like his younger sister Melinoe during the summer with his mother.) yea but my little rant 😋
Thank you for this little rant. I ate well! 🍽
When it comes to characterizing Persephone, there are so many ways to portray her. The depiction of her as a cute, innocent pastel girl is probably the most common, and you know what? It makes so much sense! A pastel girl and a goth man, opposites attract, it just works!
I've even been thinking more about how to depict that couple. The more I think about it, the more I picture Roger and Jessica Rabbit. Persephone being this goofy, almost regular-looking woman with a lot of energy, and Hades being this over-the-top, sexy, feminine man. It's a little different, but still fits the whole opposites attract trope.

Love Sucks Part 1
Randy Meeks X F!Goth!Reader
Tumblr media
Masterlist (Part 2 out now)
Warnings : Language, Stu and Billy bully Randy.
Summary : (Suggested by @saint-petah-the-good) A new girl moves to town and Randy is quick to fall in love. Despite her odd habits and weird interests the friend group takes her in.
Randy didn't know what hit him when he saw you. Your legs covered in fishnets sitting in his spot by Tatum. Your giant black sunhat shielding you from sunlight.
"Randy! This is Y/N!" Shes a horror geek like you!" Tatum smiled. Randy made a goofy smile at you, flushed from Tatum's comment. You smiled back shyly, "This is Randy, the one I told you about." Tatum said. Randy gave her a look, "You've been talking about me?!".
"Not in a bad way... Most of the time." Tatum took a bite of her salad. You looked down at a book you were reading. Randy sat down beside you, "What book are you reading?".
"Salem's lot. By Stephen King." You said not looking up from it. Randy tilted his head to see more of your face.
"You're a Stephen King Fan?"
"Who isn't?" You smiled looking over at him.
"Me." Tatum said, you gave her a little smile.
"How did you feel about the Shining?" Randy said testing you.
"The same way Stephen King did. It was horrible. I prefer the book. Cinema wasn't ready for it. You gotta find a harder way to test me." You smiled before flipping a page of your book. Randy smiled to himself, his heart was beating so loudly.
'Shes Perfect..'.
"So where ya from?" Stu leaned in. You sat up from reading and closed the book. You sighed, "My parents were lab worke rs in Alaska. They got tired of the cold.".
"I mean Alaska?! Sounds pretty boring!" Stu laughed. Tatum elbowed him, Randy tried to block Stu out.
"Do you need a job?-" Randy blurted out, his cheeks flushed. You looked over at him with a soft smile.
"Randy! You can't just ask that!" Tatum fussed. Randy didn't take his eyes off you, "Um, yeah actually..". Randy smiled, "I work at Bradley's Video..".
"Yeah it's the closest thing to a damn Blockbuster here!" Stu exclaimed. You nodded, "I'll check it out..".
"Oh! Get this, Y/N's Grandfather directed horror movies!" Tatum said impressed. Randy leaned in closer to you, you hesitated a bit when he got to close.
"No way! What movies?!" He said, his wide eyes gazing into yours. You bit your bottom lip, "Uh, nothing super popular, some alien stuff and Vampire stuff.".
"No fucking way!" Stu shouted. Randy, again ignored Stu, you gave him an awkward smile before going back to reading.
"Where the hell is Billy and Sid?" Stu asked looking around.
"Probably in a janitor's closet!" Tatum snorted. The lunch bell rang, you closed your book and slipped it into your bag.
"What's your next class?" Randy asked watching you stand up. You pulled out a crumbled paper, "Intro to Film Study's.".
"Oh, lord" Tatum mumbled.
"I do too! I can walk you there!" Randy stood up quickly. He threw his bag over his shoulder, "Sure. I'll see you later, Tatum! It was nice meeting you, Stu.". You walked along side Randy into the school.
"I knew they'd get along." Tatum said to Stu, Stu kiss her cheek.
"Yeah but she's a little weird.."
"You're weird!" Tatum joked.
Tumblr media
Randy really couldn't keep his eyes off you. How you doodled in the margin of your notebook. Your legs crossed over each other and his eyes scanned them. Your fishnets giving him a pattern to follow.
"Y/N? Your take on Slashers?" The teacher tried to get you to jump into a discussion. You looked up, "Well, everyone says the characters act stupid. When it's portraying how people actually act in those situations. Then you have some sleep demon guy and a stalker!"
"I happen to like the stalker." A blonde girl in the back interrupted. You looked over your shoulder, "Yeah but he walks and somehow catches up. Story plot holes too. I'll like slashers more when the story makes sense.
"Sometimes story lines don't need to make sense.." Everyone went silent. Randy was surprised Billy even spoke, you looked back at him. Randy watched the interaction between you two. You narrowed your eyes a bit before turning back around. The fear of you falling for Billy's good looks faded. You went back to doodling in your notebook.
Once it was the end of class Billy went up to your desk. You didn't look at him once, "I'm guessing your Tatum's new friend?". Randy huffed before getting up, "Yeah, I'm guessing you're Billy.". You grabbed your bag before leaving, Billy smiled to himself. Randy mocked his face before walking with you.
Tatum ran up to you in the hall, "How was class?".
"It was okay." You nodded with a small smile. She smiled, "Good! So me and Stu were thinking and we wanted to invite you over to hang out this Saturday!".
"Oh, sure!" You smiled, Billy walked up beside you. Randy rolled his eyes, "I like her she's cool." Billy said as if you weren't there. Randy scoffed, Billy shot him a look.
"Well, I finished all my classes for the day. I'm gonna head home. And I might stop by that video store." You smiled at Randy as you walked away. Randy smiled, "Drive safe!", Stu laughed at him.
"You're such a dork!"
Randy rolled his eyes and walked away. He tried to ignore Stus laughs in the back. He knew liking you would be difficult due to Billy and Stu.
Tumblr media
Randy focused on restocking the VHS tapes. He huffed to himself and checked his watch. 4:27pm, you still didn't show up, maybe you were just being nice. He kept stocking the shelves, a tap on his shoulder made him jump back.
"Sorry." You softly said. Randy smiled and scratched the back of his head.
"It's fine. Um, were you wanting to get the job?" Randy glanced over at his boss then you.
"Sure, I could use one. Besides it'll be nice to work with a friend." You smiled at him. His stomach flopped, 'Friend' he didn't want to be a friend. He took a deep breath, "Uh, I'll go tell my boss. Stay here." He smiled and walked over.
"Hey, Bradley! I got a customer wanting to apply for a job here."
Bradley looked over Randy's shoulder to spot you. He sighed, "You find the most odd kids.".
"Please. She's real nice and like movies.. and-"
"You like her?-" Bradley smiled. Randy rolled his eyes, "Maybe that's not the point.".
"Fine but if she screws up. It'll cost you your job. Send her over here."
Randy walked over to you reading the back of movies. He smiled to himself, "Uh, he's ready to meet with you.". You looked up and put the movie down, 'Prom Night, good choice.' Randy thought to himself.
"Hi, I'm Y/N. I'm 18 and I moved with my parents from Alaska. I have a car and am able to work after school and on weekends." You smiled. Bradley looked at Randy then back at you.
"Great, have Randy show you the ropes, I'll get you a name tag.".
"That was easy..." Randy mumbled. You shrugged, "So, how do you work here?". Randy went behind the counter, "So we ring customers here, obviously. Then if someone returns them you ring them and put them in the cart. The cart gets restocked and it's a whole cycle!" Randy puts his elbow on the counter. You nodded, "Okay Cool.".
"Why did you move out here?" Randy asked.
"Sick of the cold."
"and the dark?"
"Kinda. I actually like the night, I uh sunburn easily." You softly smile. A customer walked to the counter, Randy showed you exactly how to ring up their rental. His hand would brush over yours. He'd try his best to be smooth like in the movies. You would just whisper sorry and not catch on.
"Okay, Y/N I expect you to work tomorrow but not this weekend, got it?"
"Yes, sir." You smiled at him before heading out the door. Randy caught up to you holding the door open.
"I'm glad he hired you."
"me too. But it's thanks to you really. I wouldn't have known about this place if it wasn't for you.".
"wanna get some burgers?" Randy asked. Your eyes widen from surprise, "Sure! Do you need a ride?".
"Yeah, kinda" he smiled. You walked to your car unlocking it, he hopped in quickly making himself at home.
"I hope you don't mind rock music.." you said as you buckled your seatbelt. Randy shrugged, "It doesn't bother me.". You nodded as you started the car, rock music blasted immediately. You turned it down a bit, "Sorry.".
"It's fine. We can go to In and Out for burgers.".
"I've never been there so you're gonna have to tell me.."
"Whoa! You've never been to In and Out?!"
"No.." you smiled.
"Gosh, well you're gonna thank me. Their burgers are delicious."
"I'll be the judge of that.".
Randy watched you drive, your skirt riding up from you pressing the gas. He looked away, "Any idea what you're doing for college?".
You shrugged, "College is still a question for me. What about you?".
"Easy, I wanna be a director. Actually make good films." Randy said. You nodded, "I can see that, Have you written a film?".
"God no. I can't write for shit! If you were to go to college what would you major in?"
"Um, screenwriting and Biology."
"So you are a nerd" Randy smiled. You gave him a smile, "Maybe a little. I just think living is... Fascinating..".
Tumblr media
Randy laid on his unmade bed, he couldn't believe his luck. He actually ate dinner with a girl, maybe it wasn't a date but it was a step. He smiled to himself thinking about your smile and how you were a messy eater. You even gave him your home phone number. He hugged his pillow, maybe he could actually pull this off. He listened to your stories and your interests very closely.
You talked about how Morticia Addams was like an idol to you. How you seen all the episodes to the Addams family and the Beetlejuice cartoon series. Then you both talked about horror movies, explaining to him how Childs Play is more of an Horror Comedy. He sat up and leaned over to his phone dialing in your number.
"Hello?" You picked up your voice was a bit groggy, maybe even deeper.
"Hey, it's Randy."
"Oh, Hey Randy! Everything okay?"
Randy fidgeted with the phone cord, "Yeah just wanted to say hi, did I wake you up?!".
"No, I have a hard time sleeping. Is there anything you wanna talk about?".
"Um.."
Shit, Randy panicked not knowing what to say, "What movie should we watch at Stus Saturday?".
"Oh, hmm well we could watch Childs Play.." he heard your smile through the phone.
"Of course I can rent it Tomorrow at work."
"Awesome. Goodnight, Randy. I'll see you at school!"
"Night."

Scythe Audio Headcannons
These are just some Headcannons about some of the listeners from the universe of Scythe Audio. These are just my thoughts, please do not take this seriously. And feel free to leave thought.
The book that Little Love wanted to bring to the Atrocity was the Count of Monty Cristo, it reminded them of him. Being locked away through no fault of his own, getting revenge on those who did it.
Cheeky and Sarah would sit together and watch old BBC sitcoms like Are You Being Served or Keeping Up Appearances.
Cheeky has monophobia, the fear of being alone. That’s part of the reason that she’s so attached to V.
Blade is a bit of a gym rat. When she gets too stressed or is overthinking things, she puts in her headphones and works out for hours. She definitely has a six pack that is the envy of the entire gym.
Little Love likes cozy spaces, like between book shelves or in a type of nest. However they have claustrophobia and will start kicking and screaming if they are closed in something that reminds them of their cupboard.
I imagine Blade looks like Season 5 She-Ra 2018. She has the long hair in a ponytail, the white uniform with the crown, and the height. In that vein, Cheeky looks like Adora, with the shorter, dark blonde hair and red jacket.
Twinkle is very good at conflict de-escalation at the cafe.
Grey-Grey was goth as heck when they were in college with Alpha, while he was (or so Grey thought) a happy, goofy, preppy sort of guy.
Demon Girl is really crow-brained and likes to gather shiny stones and makes pressed flowers. She keeps certain stones and flowers for good luck.
All the Celestials look like they might be naked, but are kind of like Titans where they don’t have any special bits showing. They are also covered by their hair so the boys can’t really tell.

Info on Tiffany and Andrew ? This pannel has me intrigued. Also sorry if me asking you about your ocs is annoying
it isnt annoying!! i LOVE talking about my ocs i actually get so excited about these asks!!! i appreciate them deeply hehe
tiffany is in sewing & knitting camp, she’s your stereotypical angry goth girl character lol. she’s very snarky and sarcastic, but is mainly popular in camp because she’s “cool”. tiff loves knitting, she’s almost always knitting, it calms her down when she is mad (which is often lol). she’s pretty confident in herself except for 2 things, which is the fact she has a speech impediment and the fact that she naturally has curly blonde hair (😨, a secret nobody can ever find out /j).
anyways, she’s mean and a teeny bit aggressive if she truly dislikes you. which leads to andrew
andrew is music camp’s sole member! …which is unfortunate, because he sucks at playing anything. he doesn’t know why he joined, he was just excited about going to a summer camp. he’s an incredibly goofy guy. alas, everyone hates him because he is too silly… no, he’s just incredibly annoying and clingy. it bothers a lot of campers to the point where they cannot stand him for long periods of time, because andrew will just talk their ears off.
andrew has a big ole crush on tiffany (he has a crush on a lot of people) and tiffany HATES HIS GUTS!! so she’s constantly childishly threatening him or attempting to lead him to his demise. fortunately andrew seems to be allergic to dying, so he hasn’t yet!

i don’t think evan has a dark vibe or is mysterious.
to me he gives off mystery vibes like he’s very lowkey and makes you want to know more if not everything about him back in the day when he had the blonde hair he gave off skater boy vibes that dates the goth girls so that’s why i say she matched his vibe to me
i just see evan as an introverted person until he gets to know you. we definitely see flashes of him being a funny, goofy person :)

The electric blonde has been your childhood friend for years. You grew up together, you told each other pretty much everything. There was the occasional talk about crushes, boys, girls, and whatever else you could talk about while growing up.
You'd always been there for each other, and now you were both attending U.A., and being in the same class had been proven to be a bit of a task for Mr. Aizawa.
The day had pretty much just started, and Denki had asked you to come with him on your first break. You were almost always hanging out with him anyway, so you were a bit confused as to why he'd wanted you to come with him.
"Hitoshi!" Denki called out, alerting both you and the lavender-haired boy of your presence.
"Oh, hi Kami-" Hitoshi falls silent as he stares at the person beside Denki. You.
Shinso feels the world stop for a few seconds as he stares at you. He's honestly speechless.
Much like you are. You'd heard about this boy now that you've heard his name, and staring at him, you can feel your heart swell in your chest. He's so handsome.
"I thought I would introduce you two! Maybe we could all go hang out together this weekend since we won't have classes." Denki's sudden plans that would include this cute boy makes your face heat up. You begin to feel self-conscious, flattening your uniform, or tucking a strand of hair behind your ear as you glance at Denki.
"We're off for once?" You question.
"Yeah! We could go do laser tag, or watch a movie in my dorm?" Denki offers, grinning. His intentions had been pure, just wanting to introduce two friends.
"Oh, I totally forgot! Hitoshi, this is (Y/n), (Y/n) this is-"
"Hitoshi, Shinso." Hitoshi speaks up, and your heart throbs in your chest at the sound of his voice. It's oddly charming. And so is the soft scent of sage and teakwood that surrounds him. It had to be his cologne, whatever it was though, you enjoyed it.
"It's nice to meet you." You speak up, extending a hand to shake. Shinso glanced own before placing his palm in yours, giving you a gentle handshake. His touch is electrifying and sends sparks coursing through your veins as you pull away.
"Yeah." Shinso looks back at Kaminari, who's beaming at him, a shit-eating grin on his lips. Kaminari was reading Shinso like a book.
"Well, we've got to get back to classes! We'll talk our plans over later!"
And with that, Kaminari is yanking you back down the hall, running to make it back to class on time.
During lunch, your phone pings, signaling you've been added to a group chat. You immediately recognize Kaminari's number, his contact labeled 'kami :D' popping up followed an unknown number.
who's that?
The number asks. You see Kaminari typing a response.
It's (y/n) dummy, add them into your contacts🙄🙄
You realize this number must be Shinso, so you decide to type a reply.
it's shinso right? i'll add u too ^^
You quickly add Shinso's contact into your phone and put a purple heart beside his name. Kaminari glances over at your phone and giggles.
"A heart already? You just met!" Kaminari teases and you're plastering your hand over his mouth to keep him from speaking too loud.
"Shut up! I just think he's sweet! Besides do we need to talk about your contact info for-"
"Okay! Okay!" Kaminari quickly shushes you, not wanting his current crush to find out about whatever their contact info is.
A few days go by, and after your hangout session with Kaminari and Shinso, you find yourself falling for him more and more.
But Shinso is the one that drops the first hint to Kaminari.
"So is (Y/n) seeing anyone?" Shinso asks, helping Kaminari clean his cartilage piercing.
"What like romantically?" Kaminari asks, sitting up with his ear turned to face Shinso while his cold fingers brushed against his ear.
"Yes, you idiot. Do they have like a boyfriend or girlfriend?" Shinso asks. He's nervous.
"Nope! (Y/n) hasn't talked to me about a crush or anything. They're always showing me these fictional people though. Why? You know someone that likes them~" Kaminari wiggles his brows at the purple-haired boy.
"Shut up. 'm just askin'." Shinso is finally done with the cotton swab and tosses it before letting Kaminari go, his fresh piercing all clean.
Suddenly a knock on the door pulls them away from the conversation and Kaminari is on his toes opening it to reveal you in some goofy pajamas.
"I'm ready for pizza and mario-" Your face contorts in horror as you stare at Shinso on his bed, out of uniform in something dark and mysterious, a loose dark plaid button-up and dark jeans.
"Nevermind! Sorry for bugging you!" You yell and run back to your dorm, hiding your face in embarrassment.
"Wait! I wanted pizza!" Kaminari calls out to you in the hallway but you don't turn around.
Shinso's face is red when Kaminari turns back to look at him.
You looked so cute, and so effortlessly- You weren't trying to impress anyone, yet you looked stunning. In nothing but some silly matching pajamas that Denki most likely had a pair to match, you looked so cute.
"You didn't tell me you ate pizza and played Mario Kart..." Shinso says, faking hurt in his sentence.
"Oh shut up! Go to their dorm and see if they wanna come back up, I'll get it set up." Denki sighs.
Shinso's on the move, making his way to your dorm thanks to Kaminari's excellent directions. Knocking on your door, he feels nervous, anxious even. His heart's pounding in his chest and then cool air washes over him as you open your door.
"Kami I'm sorry I-" You freeze as you stared at the boy in front of you.
"Ohmygod." You say quietly, quickly hiding yourself behind your door.
"Hi!!" You speak up, glancing at him from behind your door.
"Why are you hiding behind your door?" Shinso asks, a small smile on his lips.
"Your pj's are cute."
It echoes in your head, over. and over. and over again.
Your pj's are cute.
You slowly reveal yourself and look away.
"So, did Kami send you down here?" You ask quietly.
"He did, he wants you to come back up, and if it's alright with you, I'd like to hang out too, though I don't have any cool pj's to wear."
Shinso's voice calms you down, though your heart still seems to beat faster and faster.
"I actually, um, hang on. You can come in!" You allow him into your dorm, and he doesn't decline.
He glances around, admiring the pictures of you and Kami. He giggles about how silly young Denki looks with his hair all crazy and spiked up.
"You guys have been friends for a while it looks."
"Since kindergarten! He shocked me on accident, and when he apologized, we just sorta clicked. Been besties ever since." You search through your drawers and eventually find a kitty onesie that was a bit too big for you.
"I think this should fit you."
"It's kitty onesie, though you don't have to wear it!"
"Did you say kitty?" Shinso's ears perk up and you nod. He graciously takes it and the two of you leave to return to Denki. Shinso changes in his bathroom.
It smells like you, and Shinso has to stop himself from smelling the hood every five seconds as he leaves. You just smell so sweet, it's kind of alarming how soothing it is.
You all play and it's a great night, until Denki decides to play a scary movie after. You're sandwiched between the boys but begin to doze off about halfway through the movie.
Your head leans on Shinso's shoulder while you doze off, and he notices right away. He glances at Kaminari who only gives him a reassuring wink.
"You're stupid." Shinso whispers.
"They like to cuddle~" Kaminari suggests.
Shinso graciously lays an arm over you, hugging you to his chest as you readjust in your sleep. You're so warm, and Shinso begins to doze off too.
When you wake up in the morning, you've been covered up by a fuzzy blanket, but the warmth radiating under you is the most alarming.
Your sleepy eyes open to see the purple-haired boy you have a crush on, under you. Your eyes widen but you don't move away. Instead, you lay back down, not wanting to wake him.
His arm rests around you, and his breathing is so calming. It lulls you back to sleep.
You don't talk about that night much afterward, until you're knocking on Kami's door at one in the morning after a bad dream.
"Is Shinso single?" You ask quietly.
"Yeah, why ya askin' me though?" Kaminari hugs you, your head resting on his shoulder.
"I'm too nervous to ask him." You giggle.
"So you like him?"
"Yeah. He's really sweet, and super cute too." You admit, pulling away to stare at your best friend.
"I'm totally not his type though."
"I'm going to beat you up." Kaminari jokes. You shake your head and laugh.
"He's gotta be into like super hardcore goth punk rock-"
"You're so oblivious." Kaminari interrupts you. You roll your eyes and get comfortable on the edge of his bed, snuggling with one of his plushies.
"Just go to sleep, you idiot." You throw another plushy at him.
"You're in my dorm! I can and will kick you out." Denki huffs.
"As if. You need my snoring as your white noise." You tease him.
"You're so mean to me." Denki pouts.
By the same time next week, Denki's heard Shinso's confession about his crush on you, and every little detail about what both of you had to say about the other.
And Denki was honestly tired of it, endearingly of course. So he was setting you two up.
"I need you to meet me here at two. Wear something cute." Is what the text had said. You repeated it as you put together a cute outfit.
Shinso had received the same text and was just wearing something casual like he usually did.
However, when you both spotted each other and not Denki, you began to realize what was happening.
"He's not coming, is he?" You spoke softly, staring at the attractive boy in front of you.
"I guess not." Shinso looks over at the cafe you're standing outside. It's a cat cafe.
"Well, if you're not busy, wanna grab a bite to eat?" Shinso offers, nodding toward the cafe.
"I'd really like that, actually. Thank you." You smile. He offers his hand and you take it gracefully, smiling at how warm it is.
Shinso's phone pings halfway through your piece of cake with a message from Kaminari.
nows ur chance dude, ask them out
Shinso swallows his fear and looks up at you. You're so beautiful, even all dressed up, you look adorable.
You're petting an all-white kitty that's laying in your lap.
"Hey, (Y/n)?" Shinso gets your attention.
"Mhm?" You hum, smiling at him.
"Do you wanna, maybe do this again sometime?" He asks, a blush on his cheeks.
"Like, as a date?" You ask, your own face heating up.
"Yeah. As a date, and as a couple." He glances over at a pretty black cat that begins to nudge your arm for a few pets as well.
"I'd like that." You smile, your heart swelling.
"Then it's settled."
Afterward, neither of you can contain your excitement. Walking back to the dorm with your hand in his, Kaminari is elated.
"Finally." He sighs.
"Finally?!" You both say in unison.
"You should've confessed the day you met. I had to listen to you two being sappy about one another for two weeks straight."
Both you and Shinso feel flustered at Kaminari's comment.
"But it's okay. I love you two so I'll tolerate it. But you two better get along or no more pizza and Mario Kart. You'll have to deal with Bakugou, and I don't think you'll enjoy buying a new controller every time you want to play."
Kaminari was genuinely happy to see you both together, and both be happy.
"Thanks, for you know." You nudge him while sitting on his bed, Shinso was gone, using the bathroom.
"What are you talking about. I didn't help. You two just finally confessed. You did that on your own."
"Yeah but, you made me feel confident about it." You smile.
"That's what I'm here for!" Kaminari smiles.
You couldn't ask for a better friend, or a better boyfriend.

I think you mentioned before that some of RWBYJNR also alludes to charcters from wizard of Oz aside from ozpins circle. With a big theme of rwby is to be better than those before us I can believe this but could you explain to me who is which character and why if it wouldnt be to much hassel
I think I’ve gone through this before, but yeah the Dorothy-Scarecrow-Tin Man-Cowardly Lion quartet runs through a lot of our quartets.
This comes down to the fact that you can break down the latter three into the central dichotomies of their characters: stupid/smart, heartless/emotional, and cowardly/brave. Dorothy, meanwhile, doesn’t have much of a character journey, all she’s doing is trying to get home, so usually the way to identify the Dorothy of each quartet is by the process of elimination.
You can see this pattern appear amongst the quartets of the show:
Teachers, International:
Qrow is the Scarecrow. His drunkeness makes him look foolish, but he’s actually more aware of the actual goings on of the world than most. He’s smart and observant, but he’s signed away his decision-making to Ozpin because he trusts him so much.
Leo is the Cowardly Lion. I’ve always found this one odd, because unlike the two others we’ve seen, Leo doesn’t display the bravery part of his role, just the cowardice. The bravery is instead told to us by Ozpin, effectively meaning that Leo played out his inspiration’s development in reverse.
Ironwood is the Tin Man. He cares, he cares so much, but the way he cares results in him taking actions that look outwardly heartless.
Theodore is Dorothy. Now, we haven’t met Professor Theodore, but his name has the same etymology as “Dorothy”, so it isn’t hard to make a connection.
RWBY:
Ruby is Dorothy. She’s the girl in a dress who unexpectedly end up in the Land of Oz, and her little dog too. Plus she’s fighting several witches.
Weiss is the Tin Man. In the beginning, she’s cold and standoffish, uncaring of the plight of the faunus, kinda heartless. But this is learned behaviour, and the true Weiss that emerges is a loving, caring person desperate to right the wrongs her heartless father has committed in the family name.
Blake is the Cowardly Lion. She’s one of the most bravest people in the entire series, taking the weight of the entire faunus cause on her shoulders, but has been gaslit and abused into thinking that she’s a coward who always runs away from her problems.
Yang is the Scarecrow. Your initial reaction to the character is that she’s a blonde party girl, and then she proves that this idea was never the truth. She’s smart, she’s an engineering whiz, she’s the first to ask questions and the last to stop looking for answers.
RNJR/JNPR 2.0:
Ruby is once again Dorothy, but her role in this quartet has since been taken over by Oscar. He’s a young teen, raised on a farm by his aunt and uncle, who ends up in a world of magic and wonder.
Ren is the Tin Man. Outwardly, he seems emotionless, and his semblance revolves around emotional suppression. But he’s actually incredibly emotional, and simply afraid of letting his emotions control him.
Nora is the Scarecrow. Once again, she outwardly looks unintelligent, but she’s actually incredibly intelligent, especially when it comes to emotional intelligence.
Jaune is the Cowardly Lion. In early seasons, he flails and flounders while fighting, as he’s the most inexperienced and thus the most unused to these situations. Later on, he becomes the most afraid of losing people he loves. But this is a guy who signed up to a monster hunting school with no experience, and is willing to lay down his own life to save the people he loves. He is stupidly brave, full-on Gryffindor.
STRQ:
Summer is Dorothy, because she was basically Ruby 0.5. She was the glue that held her team together.
Qrow is once again our Scarecrow.
Raven and Taiyang are a little more complicated, as you can see Tin Man and Cowardly Lion in both. On the one hand, Raven is so afraid of losing, of fighting a fight she can’t win, that she’s ruined her whole life to try and escape that fight. Meanwhile Tai is the only one of our parents who isn’t taking part in the fight in some way, he’s a retired Huntsman. On the other hand, Raven tries to act aloof and uncaring, but her semblance gives away that she cares for people in her life. And Tai is introduced to us as a man who once emotionally shut down, but is doing his best to be the most loving and caring father since then.
(Oh hey, a sunshine-and-goth couple who share their allusions. Where have I heard that before? =p)
Teachers, Vale:
Ozpin, ironically, plays the Dorothy role amongst the four teachers at Beacon. He’s the one who comes from another world, and he’s the other who brings everyone together.
Glynda is the Tin Man. Strict and domineering, but she does actually care about her students.
Oobleck is the Scarecrow. Tall and gangly, seemingly goofy, but highly intelligent and prizes knowledge above all else.
Port is the Cowardly Lion. Constantly boasting and telling stories of his bravery, and the last of the teachers we actually see fight.
WTCH:
Cinder is Dorothy. The young girl of the group, most important of the group, she’s the one with magical powers.
Hazel is the Tin Man. Appears to be stoic and aloof, actually a screaming ball of rage.
Watts is the Scarecrow. Seemingly the intelligent one, and boastful of it, but is making mistakes in Atlas that Cinder herself didn’t run into.
Tyrian as the Cowardly Lion. The one who’s upfront, in your face, relishes in battle, but the moment he actually got hurt he went crying home to Mommy.
Cinder’s Gang:
Cinder is once again Dorothy, as she is the focus of this group and the one who traveled around and collected them on her way to Oz.
Emerald is the Scarecrow. She’s intelligent, she’s cunning, but she’s completely blind to Cinder’s manipulations.
Neo seems to be playing this role currently. Cinder thinks she has her under her control thanks to some base manipulation, but Neo is smart enough to blame Cinder for Roman’s death, not Ruby. Also, an old offensive term for being mute, as Neo is, was called being dumb.
Mercury is the Tin Man. He says he doesn’t care. He very much does care. Also, the Tin Man is looking for a heart, and Mercury has had part of his soul removed.
Cowardly Lion is split between Torchwick and Adam. Torchwick’s only motivation was survival, ie a fear of death, meanwhile Adam has references to being Lionized and despite all his power is nothing more than a coward.
And I think that’s all the ones we have so far.

Eight months later.
Shawn was beyond tired. Shawn was not allowed to be tired. Shawn, the sun has almost gone down and we still have so much to do today! Stop sleeping and pay attention!
Honestly, nobody was keeping track of how many interviews had been done today. Shawn should have kept track, that way he would know how many were left before he was done for the day. He was only half listening to what his manager Andrew was saying.
“A lot of Internet stars want you these days,” he said. “This girl was the only one who had something interesting to do with you. Good thing you stayed in your sweats today.”
Oh yeah. A majority of the interviews Shawn did today were done over the phone. For some goddamn reason, he and his whole team had to move from place to place for each one. This was annoying, and this was Hollywood, apparently. At least he didn’t have to change for this interview, whatever it was going to be.
Andrew was leading the team through a plaza somewhere in Los Angeles. Shawn was just on autopilot at this point. He took a dinner break a couple of hours ago, but he just wanted to be done already. He wanted to go to bed, even if he wasn’t planning on sleeping. He couldn’t really sleep these days, and it was by choice.
The team stopped in front of a door that said “DANCE STUDIO” in white letters. As usual, Andrew made Shawn wait outside with Jake the bodyguard while the rest of the team went inside. It was a moment to let things sink in and breathe while he was almost alone. Shawn had to put on his happy mask once again, even if it was the last thing he felt.
“How you holding up?” Jake asked, watching him carefully.
Shawn knew what he was asking, but shrugged it off. “Just a little tired.”
“Nightmare,” he said with a nod.
“What? No, I don’t have those anymore.”
“I wasn’t asking, I’m telling you.”
He stayed quiet. It’s not like anything could be done about it right now. There’s other things to worry about. Andrew always told Shawn just to not think about it. Think about happier things, like walking into this damn studio.
Andrew came out of the room after a few minutes, gesturing for them to enter. Here goes another round of answering the same questions he’s been asked all day.
There were two studio lights stood on either side of a camera set up in front of the mirrors that spanned across the wall. It wasn’t the huge Hollywood set up he had gotten used to. There were chairs lined up against the wall away from the camera, and there was no crew either, just two girls handling everything. The life of YouTubers.
A blonde girl in glasses was fixing the lens on the camera, but she looked up and smiled at Shawn when he entered the room. The other girl with curly brown hair was doing the splits in the middle of the hardwood floor. She looked up as well, and was quick to get up and greet him.
"Hi! I'm Aria Mercer, it's so nice to meet you!"
Aria was very short, given that her head was tilted up to look Shawn in the eyes. She was in red sweats and a One Direction tee, making him feel better about his drab appearance.
"And I'm Sophie Jensen!" said the blonde as she approached the group. "We've heard so much about you! We love your music!"
Shawn grinned. "Thank you, it's nice to meet you too."
"So, you showed up in the appropriate attire, that's good," Aria said. "You ready to dance?"
Shawn's eyes widened. "That's what we're doing?"
"Your people didn't tell you?" Aria shot a mock disappointed look to his team, who had all collectively went to sit in the chairs against the wall. "But yeah, I'll be teaching you a few simple moves. Nothing dangerous or strenuous."
Sophie went back to the camera, looking into the viewfinder and pressing a button. "It's recording. Whenever you guys are ready."
For once, Shawn was glad Brian wasn't here to witness this. Lucky bastard got to go back to the hotel early. Still, he was going to see this in the foreseeable future, and that was enough to make Shawn nervous.
"Gotta warn you," he said to Aria, "I'm a huge klutz."
"It's okay, we'll have fun!" she reassured, and she reached over to rub his arm.
Her tiny hand left so many tingles on his skin. Shawn resisted the urge to scratch it away as Aria greeted the camera.
She didn't obnoxiously project her voice like other YouTubers. She wasn't like the rich socialites who were running the platform these days. She was a dancer, and she was bubbly and full of energy.
"Have you ever danced before?" she asked Shawn.
"I literally fall over twenty times a day," he replied. "Dancing feels out of my element, but I'm down to learning."
Aria giggled. "And you've got me as your teacher, so everything will be okay."
The first thing she taught him was the formation for a simple ballet turn. Shawn learned very quickly that standing on one leg with your toes pointed was challenging, to say the least.
"Okay, stay like that," Aria said, stepping towards him. "Let me fix your posture."
Shawn wanted to laugh, but he would lose his balance. He looked at his reflection in the mirror, Aria circling his body.
"Okay, relax your shoulders," she said, patting the area, "but squeeze your back muscles, it'll keep you straight. And squeeze your butt muscles too, it'll keep your legs straight."
She didn't touch that area, but her tiny hands were low on his hips. "Hm, so broad. You definitely have a dancer's body."
"Thanks?" he strained out.
"Elongate your neck as well, chin up."
His muscles were starting to hurt, clearly not used to having them flexed this way. He quickly gave out and lost the position.
"You do all that just when you turn?" he asked Aria.
"Claro que sí! And that's just the surface. There's spotting so you don't lose balance. And then there's the art of making it looks graceful and effortless."
With that, she did the turn. No, she did a pirouette, maybe five turns in a row. Shawn had a new appreciation for dancers now.
Aria taught him more moves, like the five positions of ballet. They were simple enough, but Shawn felt like his ankle might pop off during fifth position. He felt quite goofy with his arms up in the air, but Aria looked, as she said, graceful.
"And back to fourth, and plie," she said, bending her knees.
It looked easy, Shawn never skipped leg day. But with the position his feet were in, he was far from elegant. He couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous he looked in the mirror.
"I take it you've danced your whole life?" he asked her.
"I have. And back to first."
"What's, like, the craziest move you can do?" he asked, now curious. He also wanted to see how flexible this girl was.
Aria tapped her finger to her chin as she thought about it. "Huh… good question. A fouette, I think. Either that, or an aerial."
"I have no idea what either of those things are, you have to show me."
An aerial, he quickly learned, is a no handed cartwheel. Aria took three large steps and practically did a front flip. Again, she was graceful as hell and made Shawn feel inadequate even though this wasn't a profession he planned to pursue.
A fouette was an incredibly complex turn that left Aria panting after she did ten in a row. She was a fucking champ.
When the video was done, the team was quick to rush Shawn, surround him, and get him to the next location. For once, he wasn't having it. He was quite taken with Aria after the short 30 minutes he spent with her.
"Wait!" he snapped, yanking his arm out of Jake's grasp. "Can't I thank our lovely host?"
Aria, who had quickly occupied herself by talking to Sophie, looked up in his direction.
"We have to go!" Andrew strictly told him.
"Just give me a minute!" Shawn said back.
With several stern looks, the team backed off. Shawn then approached Aria with more confidence than he should have had after being brutally humbled by the art of dance.
He put on his best smile. "Hey, just wanted to thank you for the experience."
"No problem." She smiled. "Showing people the way of dance is kinda my thing."
"Well, you're really good at it."
"Aw, thanks!"
Shawn looked at her, then at Sophie. Then, he gently took Aria's shoulder and led her away from the other girl. He cleared his throat before speaking again.
"Look, uh, tell me if this is too forward, but… I was wondering if you wanted to come by my hotel later tonight."
Her brown eyes widened, and then she looked down. "Dio mío. ¿En serio?"
Shawn blinked. "You just spoke Spanish."
"Sorry, I'm just a little thrown off. You're being serious?" She was blushing.
"Yeah. Kinda wanna see what else you can do with those legs." He smirked.
"Me va a dar algo," Aria mumbled. Then, she caught herself. "This is crazy."
He tilted his head. "How so?"
She chewed her lip as she looked at him. There was a look in her eyes that held the answer to his request. "You ever had like… a free pass? Like, you and your significant other talk about your crushes and which celebrity you'd go for. You're my free pass."
Shawn raised his eyebrows, flattered. "So that's a yes?"
Confliction spread on her features. "How long are you in town for?"
"I leave tomorrow." His heart started to race.
"I'll message you on Twitter later, okay? I, uh, need to see if I have something already planned."
"We have nothing planned!" called Sophie, obviously eavesdropping.
Aria's cheeks went even more pink as she looked at Shawn. "Okay, I guess I'm free!"
"Awesome. I'll send you the address." Shawn winked, even though he wasn't very good at it.
Still, Aria was beaming as she went back to her friend.
~
The only person who was supportive of this impulsive decision was Brian. It was a good thing Shawn brought him along on this weirdly wonderful journey. Shawn told him everything over dinner with the team, leaving out some details of the dancing part.
Brian high fived his friend. "It's about time you come back to your old self! Shawn the bachelor, revived!"
Shawn couldn't quite remember his old self. He hardly had any time to think about it. Brian sometimes reminded him of that old self, it was good to have him here.
"She was really hesitant," he said, "she might not even show up."
"But you took the initiative, and that's a good sign! Besides, if she ghosts you, it won't be hard to find someone else."
That was mildly comforting. More fish in the sea, and Shawn's sea recently expanded.
"Gotta get under someone to get over someone," Brian added.
Shawn couldn't argue with that. This Aria Mercer girl was a good place to start, given that she was completely different from the last girl he was with. This girl was smaller, and more bubbly. Flexible. Amazing curly hair. Shawn could definitely get down with someone who wears more than just one color.
If only he could find beauty in color again.
It wasn't until he was back in his hotel did Shawn start getting nervous. He sent Aria the address and his room number through a Twitter DM, forgetting to add a cheeky "can't wait to see you." After that, he jumped in the shower. Sure, it was just a measly hookup, but he wanted to be clean at least. He even made the effort to order a bottle of patrón to the room.
The bottle was delivered by the time Aria notified him of her arrival. Shawn thanked the room service person with a crisp twenty and quickly ushered them out. Shawn placed the patrón and two glasses on the table, and then checked his reflection in the mirror.
He took a deep breath to calm his nerves, but still jumped when there was a soft knock on the door. Maybe he should have waited an extra thirty seconds, because Aria still had her fist up when Shawn wandered.
She quickly put her arm down and grinned. "Hey."
"Hi. Come in," Shawn said.
His heart was pounding wildly when the two of them were officially shut inside the hotel room. Aria walked in front of him, making him get a look at her bare legs in tiny pink shorts. She placed her tiny backpack on one of chairs at the table.
Shawn noticed the golden lightning bolt and two clear circles on the pack, piquing his interest.
"You like Harry Potter?"
"Hm? Yeah!" Aria said. "I'm obsessed."
"What house are you?"
"Hufflepuff! You?"
Of course the first girl he hooks up with in months is the same Hogwarts house as-
"Gryffindor," he replied.
"Cool."
Silence fell between the two of them as they stood in front of the bed. Aria looked around the room, biting her nails. Shawn couldn't figure out how to step into the next part of this night. He wasn't typically nervous or awkward, but that was only because before this, he was getting intimate with the same person consistently. There was no reason to be nervous then.
"So, uh…" he trailed off.
"Do we just…?" Aria asked, taking a few steps closer.
Neither of them remembered hookups being this awkward.
"Do you want a drink?" Shawn asked, but Aria spoke over him.
"Come closer."
So he did, feeling his heart in his throat. Nervous energy radiated all over, it was almost suffocating. It wasn't the fun type of nervous.
"Closer," Aria said softly.
There was an inch of space left between them. Shawn was looking at her, but she wouldn't return the gaze. He gently placed his hands on her upper arms, slowly moving his head closer, bending more than usual given the height difference. This was like a bandaid that needed to be ripped off. Once that was done, then everything else could come naturally.
"I can't do this," Aria said when their noses were touching, her voice slicing through the silence like a knife.
He moved back, removing himself from her completely. His body suddenly felt much less tense, almost relieved. Before he could even think of anything to say, Aria kept talking.
"I thought I could do it because you're my free pass, and you're insanely gorgeous. But I need to be honest - I have a boyfriend."
Shawn felt his stomach drop. "You-"
"But he gave me his blessing!" Aria frantically interrupted. "I texted him, and he sent me a voice clip of his approval! You can listen if you don't believe me!"
She hurried to her Hogwarts bag, opening up the zipper and digging inside. Meanwhile, Shawn sat down on the bed, his mind spiraling.
He wouldn't have been able to do this either. Come to think of it, he wasn't even that attracted to Aria. He hardly knew her, apart from the fact that she posts dancing videos on YouTube. Hell, he didn't even think about what he wanted to do with her, he just went through the motions.
Aria turned back to Shawn, phone in hand. She stopped in her tracks, noticing his hunched shoulders. "Are you okay?"
Shawn didn't really speak of the ache in his heart to anyone. Again, there was just no time. Sometimes he was tempted to call Camila on the rare days off, but she was just as busy these days. He thought about texting Alessia, but she didn't speak to him anymore. Shawn didn't talk about it, but keeping it in wasn't doing it anymore.
"You were honest with me, so I owe you just the same," he began. "I only wanted to do this because I'm going through a breakup."
He expected her to scoff, or make some comment about how pathetic he is, but Aria simply sat down next to him. Her brown eyes were soft and sympathetic.
"Getting over someone by getting under someone." She echoed Brian's words. "I've been there."
"Hey, I'm sorry for putting you in this position-"
"It's okay," she said, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, I did the same thing when I was twenty years old. Actually, the guy I'm dating now was one of my rebounds."
Shawn cleared his throat. "Is that how you ended up together?"
"Nah, that's a whole other story. But while we're being honest, I have to tell you. Sleeping around isn't gonna heal your broken heart. A wise man once said that numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it."
Ain't that the fucking truth. Shawn felt the ache deep in his bones. It hurt so much it knocked the wind out of him.
"Did you love that person?" Aria asked after a moment.
Shawn couldn't stop himself. "I was so in love with her. She was the first person I ever loved, and it was everything I could have asked for."
"And it feels like you'll never find that again," Aria continued, rubbing his back.
Shawn nodded and took a breath. "Look, I'm sorry I'm dumping this on you. This is probably the opposite of what you expected to happen."
To his surprise, she grinned. "You're lucky I'm nice and have a need to protect heartbroken individuals. If you had hit up my friend Sophie, she would have kicked you while you were down. Besides, sometimes it's just easier to vent to a stranger."
Well, she wasn't wrong about that. Shawn felt more ramblings bubbling up the longer he sat with her. So maybe he would end up spending the night with Aria Mercer.
"Tell me about you, though," he told her. "I don't want this whole thing to be depressing."
The two of them sat up against the headboard, chatting for a while. Shawn learned a little bit more about Aria. She's been dancing since she was a toddler, but she took a hiatus from it after graduating high school. Her favorite color is red, she's a Virgo, and she graduated from that fancy university for vloggers two years prior. That's where she met her first love.
"I got really lucky that the first guy I dated was my first real love," she explained.
"The guy you're with now?" Shawn asked.
"No. That's Joe. My first love was named Dan," she said. "I gotta say, it's been almost five years since we broke up - and I'm very happy with Joe - but a small part of me is still soft for my ex."
Shawn nodded his head as he listened. "Why did you guys break up?"
Aria opened her mouth to answer, but she gave him a look. "You first."
"Fine, but we're opening that patrón."
She giggled. "Okay. I'll pour the glasses, you start talking."
For a moment, Shawn thought about it, thought about Ann. He hasn't seen her since the breakup. He has been back to Toronto in the four months they've been apart, but he never went looking for her. Why would he?
"She… she's insanely private," he began as Aria returned to the bed with two glasses. "She didn't want me talking about her in interviews, or even to my friends. I mean, people in our circle knew about us, but she always thought I was going to tell everyone her secrets or something."
"So paranoia was the cause?"
"I wouldn't say paranoia. I know she wanted her privacy, and I tried very hard to respect it. But people still managed to find her social media and some went to the extent of following us around in public."
Aria made a face. "Oof. I know what that's like."
"Yeah. I kept waiting for her to ask me to stay before they flew me out here. Kept waiting for her to tell me to drop everything and stay with her. But she never did. She pushed me to pursue this, and she chose to stay behind."
"That shows that she really loved you. She wouldn't let you give up all of this for her. We all make sacrifices for our careers."
Those words sunk in as they both took a drink. Shawn screwed his eyes shut momentarily as the bitter taste consumed him.
"Isn't all of this supposed to be worth it?" he wondered. "I know she's not the only girl out there, and she was incredibly different from me. But I haven't gotten the studio time I was promised. I haven't written a song in weeks. All I've been doing are photoshoots and interviews!"
Aria shifted in her seat, kicking off her shoes. "Hey, it will be worth it! Look, me and my ex broke up for kinda the same thing. He's also a YouTuber, and he was gonna go on tour. He asked me to go with him, to drop out of uni, but we were already falling apart. I just knew there wouldn't be room for me in his world. So we broke up, and I stayed in school. In that time, I formed a dance group, I got to interview one of my favorite bands, and I protested the shutdown of our campus."
Shawn took another sip of his glass. "Have you talked to your ex since?"
"Nope! Actually, he came out as gay last year, and I sent him a congratulatory tweet. He didn't reply." She chuckled sheepishly before draining her glass.
The two of them looked at each other for a moment. Then, Aria made a face, screwing up her eyes.
“We’re not pretending that this is good, right?” She held up her glass.
“Hey, it cushions the blow,” Shawn replied.
She scoffed and began typing on her phone. “You like slushies? Tacos? I’m postmating Taco Bell.”
Soon enough, they were munching on a 12-pack of mediocre tacos and putting patrón in their large Mountain Dew slushies. The mood lightened a lot quicker, and soon they were talking about other things. Soon, Shawn was laughing and half the patrón was gone. Boundaries and walls were coming down.
“What band did you interview?” Shawn asked.
“Five sauce,” Aria said. “It wasn’t even an interview. I made a dance to one of their songs and taught it to them. It was a jokey-joke video, but I got to talk to them and thank them for making amazing music.”
She pulled up the video on her phone and showed it to him. It was pretty hilarious to see the members of 5 Seconds of Summer try to dance as well as Aria did. It was like the video she did with Shawn today.
“I wanna meet them,” he said wistfully. “And I wanna meet Niall Horan.”
Aria gasped. “I love One Direction! Is Niall your favorite?”
“Honey, you have no idea.”
They talked about celebrity crushes. Aria’s were Demi Lovato, Liam Payne, and, still, Shawn.
“And I still didn’t make the cut,” he joked.
Aria smacked him shoulder. “We got this far. But evidently, I love my mans too much.”
“More than your ex?”
“Oh yeah.” Aria grinned to herself.
“You said his name is Joe, right? Is he a YouTuber too?”
That was when they fell down a YouTube rabbit hole. Aria showed Shawn her boyfriend’s videos, the ones she was in prior to their relationship. Apparently, they were friends for five years before becoming an item last fall.
“I don’t wanna talk too much about my love life, though,” she said. “Y’know, knowing that yours is…”
Shawn waved it off. “Hey, I’m feeling a buzz. I love love, even if I don’t have it. Tell me, girl.”
Aria thought for a moment. “Okay, here’s a fun fact. Me and Joe saw Bella’s video that had you in it.”
He gasped softly. “Really?”
“Uh-huh! So Joe looked you up on Spotify and, and it was raining too! We had a cozy day with blankets and kissing and stuff and we listened to your music. And…” She paused, smiling softly. “When You’re Ready was playing the first time I told him that I love him.”
“Dude… that’s fucking beautiful.” Shawn placed a hand on his chest and sniffed. “I wrote that song about my ex.”
Aria scoffed. “Well, now it’s about me and Joe! It’s a Jaria song!”
Shawn was going to remember that. It’s a Jaria song.
“Why don’t you just go to him now?” he asked her.
“He lives in London,” she replied. “I want to live with him, but neither of us can agree on a place to live. He likes it hot, I like it cold. I don’t wanna be too far from family. We’ve still got our careers to think about.”
“But you were going to hook up with me?”
“Because he told me I can! Look!” She picked up her phone again and played a voice clip.
A male, British voice filled the room. “Well, how often do you get to say you fucked Shawn Mendes? Go on, love, have your fun. But if Dianne ever comes round again, I’m shooting my shot!”
“Who’s Dianne?” Shawn asked.
Aria waved it off. “No one. But do you see? I was telling you the truth. Joe and I fucked a lot in the past and fucked other people too! It’s kind of an open relationship, or… it was. I need to talk to him about that now.”
“Wow…” A memory came to mind. “My ex wanted to fuck one of the girls from Little Mix.”
Aria sat up on her knees. “I love Little Mix! I’ve choreographed so many dances to their songs!”
“Show me!”
If Aria was sober she might not have done it. She stood up in front of the bed and performed little snippets to four different Little Mix songs. She was so passionate and happy. If only she was single, and if only Shawn wasn’t hung up on some flowers…
~
They didn’t sleep together, but they shared a bed. They both woke up early the next morning to loud knocking on the door. Having been through this for a few months, Shawn didn’t have to guess what it was. He was probably running late to something, or the team was just in a hurry to get the day started.
“I’m sorry,” Shawn sleepily mumbled. “You’re gonna face my manager.”
“Fun,” she mumbled back.
She rolled out of bed quicker than he had anticipated. She grabbed her shoes and stumbled to her Harry Potter bag on the table. Then, she gave Shawn a salute.
“See ya round, rockstar.”
“Hey,” Shawn called as he sat up. “Thanks for sticking around. I know you didn’t have to, and I really appreciate it.”
She smiled. “Let me know when you’re in LA or London or something. Maybe you’ll get to meet Joe.”
“Yeah, I’ll let you know.”
“And listen, don’t let your people push you around all the time. They work for you. Demand more studio time if-”
More sharp knocks. Aria sighed.
“You have more power than you think,” she continued. “Demand more studio time. Demand counseling if you really need it. Don’t let them take advantage of you.”
Shawn nodded, feeling a pit in his stomach. “Thank you, Aria.” He stood up and went for a hug, his chin barely touching the top of her head. Who knew a girl that small could be so powerful?
Anyway, Aria made a quick but polite greeting to Andrew as she exited the hotel room. As soon as she was gone, the team filled her absence. Tiffany walked in pulling a clothing rack with today’s outfit choices. Anna came in with her bag of makeup and hair products, gesturing for Shawn to come sit in the chair by the table. Jake walked in looking strong and mighty as hell. Brian was the last one to enter, two coffees in hand.
He had an eager grin on his face as he approached his friend. “How was she?” he asked, handing him a coffee.
Before Shawn could answer, Andrew piped up.
“Speaking of women,” he said, “since you want to get over someone, we got someone else for you to theoretically get under. I talked to Justin on the phone last night, and he thinks it’s time everyone saw the romantic side of Shawn Mendes.”
“I don’t want a girlfriend,” Shawn said. “Actually, I have some stuff I wanna talk to you about.”
Andrew said nothing as he typed on his phone. When he finished that tasked, he disregarded everything his client had said. “You’ll like this girl. She’s a friend of yours, after all.”

the wedding date - chapter 4
part 1 | part 2 | part 3
Percy piled his plate high with pancakes and blueberries. Annabeth went for fruit, scones, and bacon. The burden of saying hi and meeting people was eased with the crutch of having full mouths.
These were her old camp buddies, her close friends, but she could feel her social meter already running out. The constant circuit of greetings and small talk and introducing Percy had left her emotionally spent, but Percy was killing it. He was charming and goofy and greeted everyone so warmly. Annabeth was grateful he was here.
After they had chatted with Katie Gardener, her old fellow Cabin Leader, Percy excused himself to get more coffee. “Do you want me to get you anything?”
Annabeth shook her head, “No thanks. I’m actually gonna take a breather.” She motioned over to an alcove of the dining pavilion that was less crowded.
“Are you okay? We can leave,” Percy said, genuine worry in his eyes.
She flashed him a grateful smile, “Yes, I’m fine really. Just need a second. Go get your coffee.” She watched him walk over to the beverage table and didn’t miss how almost everyone’s eyes followed him.
She felt bare now without his hand on her back supporting her, physically and emotionally.
“Is that the elusive Annabeth Chase?”
Annabeth whirled around and was suddenly in a bear hug, literally. Her face was full of Hazel’s caramel curls and a huge mass of muscle, but when she saw her dearest friends, Frank and Hazel, she was beamed. “How are you guys!” She asked, not letting go of either of her friends’ arms.
“We’d be better visited us once in a while,” Hazel retorted, but there was love in her tone. She wore a yellow sundress that matched Frank’s tie. Theypulled off matchy-matchy without looking like they were trying too hard.
“Oh you know I’ve been meaning to, but—”
“We know, we know, you have work. Annabeth Chase the famous architect needs to be here to redesign the Manhattan skyline,” Frank teased.
“I—” Annabeth smiled, sheepishly, “Yeah, I do have work.”
“We know, and we’re so proud of you,” Hazel said, squeezing her arm, “But justoneweekend, fly out to New Rome. We’d love to see you more often.”
“I’ll try, Hazel,” and even though Annabeth had said that before so many times to Piper and Jason, the way Hazel and Frank looked her made her really mean it.
“And Annabeth, I heard from a little birdy that you brought a date?” Hazel teased, grinning at her. Annabeth watched Hazel and Frank’s gaze shift to Percy across the room, chatting to one of Jason’s random old relatives at the coffee table, signaling Piper had fully briefed them on Percy already.
“I did,” Annabeth said, challenginly.
“Why didn’t you tell us? Piper said she didn’t even know until you asked for a plus one like a month ago!”
Annabeth shrugged, “It all just happened, um, so fast.” She wasn’t lying. “I’m not sure if it was the right thing to bring him, actually. I brought a newcomer to camp, and now everyone’s staring at him.”
“Wrong, Annabeth,” Frank said, “Everyone’s staring because he’s so attractive.” Hazel’s expression read, he ain’t wrong.
“Oh,” Annabeth bit her lip, “That’s good, I guess?” It was better they were staring at him for that rather than staring at him for being some random stranger she bought to an intimate wedding. She wanted the subject of Percy off from Hazel and Frank. “By the way, did you guys, um, fly in with Luke?”
Hazel and Frank exchanged glances, warily. Annabeth noticed. “No, he flew in with Thalia this morning,” Hazel replied, “but he’s here. Around.”
Gratefully, Annabeth was saved from having to respond by superman. “Hazel, Frank!” Jason called from across the pavilion, waving them over.
“Whelp, Groomzilla beckons,” Hazel muttered, tugging her boyfriend towards Jason, “Can’t wait for you to introduce us to Percy later!”
As Hazel and Frank left her alone with her plate of now cold bacon, the reality of the situation dawned on Annabeth. She hiredand actor to come be her date at a wedding with her closest friends, her family. These people knew her better than anyone, even better than her roommate.  They would definitely see right through her whole façade. She had brought Percy so she wouldn’t face Luke as some sad, single spinster, but it was already paying off greeting everyone and having someone at her back.
“Annabeth. Hello? Annabeth?”
Annabeth snapped out of her reverie. “Oh my gods, Thalia!” She threw her arms around the dark-haired girl in front of her. If anyone would see through her today, it was her oldest friend.
“What were you just thinking about? You looked so stress,” Thalia said, swiping a piece of bacon off Annabeth’s plate. She wore tight black dress that fell to mid-calf and reminded Annabeth of a pin-up girl. Her short black hair had new purple streaks from the last time she saw her.
“You know, just all this wedding stuff,” Annabeth recovered. “How you’ve been?”
“Busy,” Thalia bit off another piece of bacon, “Aren’t we all? But we all needed this weekend, I think. We need this time to be together. What about you, Annie? How you’ve been since the last time I saw you?”
Annabeth smiled, “I’m happy we’re all together too. I’m still recovering from you moving away. I have approximately one friend in the city now. You’re all over in California. So many of you moved out to New Rome these past few years. I was just talking to Hazel and Frank, I need to come out and see your new place. Did you end up buying that yellow couch?”
“No, I couldn’t haggle the price down. And also…well, actually, well, I moved again.”
“Thalia, what! You just moved across the country at the beginning of the year, and you’ve moved again? It’s only been like six months.”
“Yeah, but the commute to The Hunt was just so long, and there was a vacancy in, um, Luke’s building. So I moved to an apartment there.”
“Oh,” Annabeth could tell Thalia was studying her face for her reaction. She had to shift gears, “How is the new job?”
“It’s amazing,” Thalia said, “Moving all over again was worth it for this job. My boss, Artemis, is so cool. I love the company so much. It’s an all-female staff, and we go on this awesome company camping trips.”
“That’s fantastic!”
“Enough about me. Now tell me about you since I last saw you.”
“Well, I submitted my blueprints for the—”
“Not about work, Annabeth. You always talk about work. Tell me about your life! What are the new bars you’re going to? Who do you go out with now? Are you going out with anyone right now?”
“Well—”
“Oh my gods, actually. There’s the cutest guy I’ve ever seen here today. I don’t recognize him from camp, maybe he’s one of Jason’s cousins? But he’s so hot, and I think he’d be perfect for you—oh my gods, he’s walking over here right now.”
Percy returned from the coffee bar and kissed Annabeth on the cheek, “Got you a coffee, babe. Looked like you needed one. Hi, I’m Percy.” He stuck out his hand, smoothly transitioning to greeting Thalia.
Thalia gaped, but recovered quickly in true Thalia-fashion, “Oh, hey, I’m Thalia. Annabeth’s best and oldest friend. You’ve probably heard all about me already.”
Percy grinned, “Nice to meet you, Thalia. Of course I have. I’m Annabeth’s best and current boyfriend.” Damn, Annabeth thought. Percy was so smooth, she actually had never mentioned Thalia, but Percy lied so well that she believed that she had told him all about her.
Thalia grinned, “Oh, boyfriend.‘Beth didn’t mention the B-word. How long have you guys been dating?”
“-One month-“ “-Just a couple weeks-“
Annabeth paused, squeezing Percy’s arm, “We start counting from different times, but, um, we met about a month ago.”
Thalia raised an eyebrow, “Whirlwind romance?”
“Exactly.”
“Are you in the wedding party also?” Percy asked.
“I’d kill Jason if I wasn’t,” Thalia replied.
“Thalia is Jason’s sister,” Annabeth explained. Percy nodded.
“Have you met everyone already, Percy?”
“Almost,” Annabeth responded for him, “Still a couple people we haven’t gotten the chance to talk to. Like Reyna and Leo, they’ve been too busy running around doing Best Man and Maid of Honor stuff.”
“Right,” Thalia said, chugging the rest of her mimosa, “I won’t hog you two from the masses. Nice meeting you, Percy.”
Percy let out a whistle as Thalia walked away, “Wow, she has a, er, strong personality.”
Annabeth nodded, “Yep, that’s Thals for you. She’s one of my best friends. We were so close growing up. Her, me, and…” Annabeth coughed. “Any, there are still a couple people we need to say hi to. They’re over there.”
Annabeth pointed over to where two people were yelling at a catering waiter, one wiry man with curly dark hair wearing suspenders and a tall, dark haired beauty in a striking purple wrap dress, “That’s Reyna, the best man, and Leo, the maid of honor.”
“You mean the other way around?”
“Actually, I don’t. Reyna is Jason’s best friend and Leo threw a fit until Piper made him her maid of honor.” Percy nodded as Annabeth pointed them out in the crowd. “That buff Asian guy I was talking to is Frank, he’s another groomsman. That girl standing next to him is Hazel, she’s another bridesmaid with me. Do you see that goth looking kid standing by the muffins? Standing next to that blond guy? That’s Nico and his boyfriend. Dakota is another groomsman, but I think I heard that he couldn’t fly in until the rehearsal dinner. And you just met Thalia. The last  bridesmaid is Piper’s sister, Drew.”
“Okay, there’s Leo, you, Hazel, and Thalia. And there’s Reyna, Frank, Nico, Dakota and who’s the last groomsman—” Percy asked, counting off on his fingers. He lost count when,
“Annabeth!”
“Leo!” Annabeth grinned, embracing her friend, “Long time no see, how are you—”
“Great, we’re doing pictures of the wedding party over by the front of the room in T-minus forty five seconds, so get over there, princess,” and then Leo was gone.
Annabeth shook her head, “That’s Leo for you.” She and Percy walked over to where the rest of the wedding party was gathering, and Leo was animatedly directing.
“Okay, let’s do Piper and her bridal bitches first, and then we’ll do Jason and his guapo groomsmen next.” Leo said, ushering people towards the front and pushing people away.
Percy fell back behind the photographer Annabeth let herself be positioned with the other bridesmaids.
“Which ones yours?” asked a handsome, blond, tan guy standing next to Percy behind the photographer.
“Oh, sorry, what?”
“I’m Nico’s boyfriend. That groomsman who looks like he’d rather be digging graves than be here right now?”
“Oh, I’m Annabeth’s boyfriend. My name’s Percy.”
“Will Solace. Nice to meet you.”
A woman with long, wavy auburn hair in a white dress joined their conversation, “And I’m Calypso. Leo’s lucky date,” She rolled her eyes when she said it. “Welcome to the wedding dates club, Percy.”
Will grinned, “Our job is to make sure oursignificant others don’t go crazy, so Piper and Jason don’t go crazy.”
As if on cue, Leo appeared and Calypso was already handing him his phone before he even opened his mouth, “You left it on the table this morning.”
Leo grinned, kissing her on the cheek, “Thanks, babe.” He went to go hand his phone to the photographer as well.
As the groomsman gathered, Will called over his shoulder, “Nico, your tie is crooked.”
Percy felt out of place so he just shot Annabeth two supportive thumbs up. She smiled gratefully.
The bridesmaids picture seemed to be taking longer than necessary because of dark haired girl in the front who was flirting with the photographer. From process of elimination, Percy assumed it was Piper’s sister, Drew.
Will muttered from next to Percy, “Holy Hephaestus, she’s trashed.”
Calypso giggled, “I saw her downing an entire tray of mimosas. They weren’t even that strong!”
“Being a wedding date is so fun,” Will said, “You just get to witness all the drama unfolding without being a part of it. But then you have to hear them all bitch about it later at night.”
Calypso handed Percy and Will fresh mimosas, “That’s why we drink up, boys. We’ll be standing on the sidelines watching them take pictures all weekend, might as well have fun.”
Percy took the drink and cheers them, “I don’t mind.”
After Annabeth’s cheeks hurt from smiling for so long and she saw that Percy was occupied with Will and Calypso, she slipped away from the pavilion for some fresh air. She hadn’t seen Luke yet with the whole wedding party gathered, and her nerves were getting tauter and tauter with every second she braced herself to see his face.
“Annabeth, hey.”
Snap. She knew that voice anywhere. Once upon a time, that voice could have roused her out of a coma. She felt like she was going to be sick. She turned on her heel to leave, but his hand caught her wrist. “Luke,” she choked out, “let go of me.”
Luke dropped her arm, and stepped close, “Come on, Annabeth.” His sandy hair was shorter than the last time she saw him. He probably cut it recently for the wedding. His grown out his facial hair was new from the last time she saw him, almost a year ago. Annabeth had always requested he didn’t do. She liked a clean shave. He looked older, more rugged. More handsome.
Annabeth didn’t want to, but she couldn’t help but study everything about him. She recognized every article of clothing he was wearing. She knew that navy blue suit was his favorite one to wear because it hugged his biceps and made him look toned. She knew he got that white polo from a sale from their favorite outlet mall they went to one of the weekends right before they broke up. She had bought him those boat shoes as a joke because they were so preppy, but he actually pulled them off.
“What, Luke?” she sighed. She hadn’t expected seeing Luke Castellan would be this hard.
“Can’t we be civil, Annabeth? Come on, it’s been almost been a year. Can’t we put this aside? For Piper and Jason?”
“Put this aside? What? Our history? Our whole relationship? A couple months, and I’m not supposed to be upset anymore?” Annabeth hadn’t seen him or contacted him in anyway since the day they broke up, and it was all coming out now. She realized she’d never gotten the words out, she’d never had time to grieve.
“Annabeth, please,” Luke continued with a steady voice. They were far away enough from the pavilion that no one would be able to hear them arguing, but he looked weary still.
“We were engaged, Luke. We were in the middle of planning our own wedding. And you left me. I can’t just ‘put it aside,” Annabeth spat out.
“I didn’t leave you, Annabeth. Don’t twist things. You knew that job at Kronos Corporations was all I’d ever wanted, all I’d worked for. I was going to be promoted, and you wanted me to choose between you and my career?”
“I wanted you to compromise! We had our life in New York. What about my job? We had a good life and you wanted us to uproot everything. And the reason I felt to goddamn stupidthe day you left without me was the day,” Annabeth’s voice caught. She could feel tears pricking in her eyes, “the day I was going to tell you that I was going to go with you.”
Luke looked pained, “Annabeth.” He reached for her.
“Stop. I-I’m here with someone.”
Luke’s arms grasped for her waist, “Annie, you don’t have to lie to me.”
Annabeth shied away, “I’m not.”
“Annabeth?” Percy appeared and stepped between the two, smoothly putting a barrier between her and Luke. He stuck out his hand, “Hey, I’m Percy, Annabeth’s boyfriend. You are?” She noticed his greeting lacked the warmth he had greeted all of her other friends with. Percy’s arm settled back around her waist, and she was surprised by how natural and comforted she felt with his arm on her waist.
Luke eyed Percy’s hand, his facial expression hardening. He shook Percy’s hand, “Luke Castellan. Old friend.” The handshake was typical enough, but Annabeth could tell from the veins on their forearms that it was quite the firm one.
“Well, I think they’re going to make some announcements now so we should head back. Shall we, Annabeth?” Percy said, already steering her away.
When they arrived back at the pavilion, Piper and Jason stood at the front of the room with the drunk girl from earlier. Drew was tapping on the mic loudly.
“Hi, everyone!” Everyone in the crowd jolted from the mic feedback, “Whoops, sorry,” Drew said, yanking the mic away from the speaker. Percy and Annabeth chose a spot towards the front next to Hazel and Frank.
“Welcome everyone! I’d like to say a few words for my beautiful sister who makes an even beautiful-er bride,” Drew giggled. She ironically still had a mimosa in her hand. “This day is so special for her and my soon-to-be half-brother-in-law Jason, but also for us former campers. Camp Half-Blood is home for all of us.” Drew spread her arms like Moses parting the Red Sea. “We get to share this special event and be reunited with everyone after so many years.” Drew slurred, “This reunion and celebration would’ve happened much sooner at the supposed-to-be wedding of the century last year, but we all know what happened. Actually, do we all know what happened—”
Annabeth’s stomach dropped, and Frank and Hazel’s face probably mirrored everyone else’s in the room as Drew made her speech, shock and horror. Annabeth turned away, about to make a break for it, but Percy surged forward, tripping over wires and grabbing the mic from Drew.
“Hey!” she protested.
“Um, hi,” Percy said into the mic, “I’m Percy. I, er, didn’t go to camp here. I only met Piper and Jason this morning, but after just five minutes of talking to them, they, er, showed me what love truly is. I’d like to propose a toast. To Piper and Jason!” Percy raised his empty hand.
The guests echoed, “To Piper and Jason!”
Jason walked over, sheepishly, and took the mic from Percy, “Wow, um, that was beautiful. Thank you, Drew. And Percy. I hope everyone had a lot a eat, we still have plenty of food left. Chiron has happily set up camp activities for us today. So after this, everyone go have fun!”
Percy walked back to Annabeth, ignoring the stares directed at him and her. He took her arm, steering her back towards Cabin 3. He wasn’t sure if that’s where they were supposed to be headed, but she was silent.
As they approached the valley of cabins Annabeth turned to him, “Thank you. For, um, intervening back there. I don’t know what Drew was thinking…”
“You’re welcome. I, um, I didn’t know that you had been engaged.”
“Yeah, we—”
“You don’t have to tell me.”
“I want to,” Annabeth said, “You deserve to know why you’re here.” The pavilion crowd had dispersed and most of the guests were headed straight towards camp activities so luckily, they were alone by the cabins.
“Luke and I started camp around the same time. He was a lot older, but he still hung out with me. We grew up together. I had a huge crush on him, but I thought he just thought of me as like a kid sister. He was my best friend. When we were older, we both knew the feelings were kind of there, but nothing ever happened until I came back from college. He was working in the city, and we started dating. I moved in with him. I think everyone knew we would end up together one day, so none of our friends were surprised when we got engaged only a year after we started dating. I’ve known him basically my whole life. Even though I was only twenty-four, he was thirty-one already. I was finally getting some of the bigger projects at my firm, we were in the middle of planning our wedding. It was supposed to be a June wedding at this exact time last year.
“Then, a couple months before our wedding, he got a call from this company he’s been trying to get involved with for years. They wanted him, finally, and it would be a huge promotion from his position at his dad’s shipping company. Except their headquarters is in San Francisco. Luke wanted to postpone the wedding so we could relocate to California. And I didn’t want to leave New York. I was finally getting traction as an architect, and we had a life, something permanent here and he wanted to throw it all away.”
Annabeth sat down on the bench outside of Cabin 3, almost like the weight of the story was too much for her stand.
“It was a huge fight. I ended up leaving and packing a bag and crashing on Thalia’s couch. After days of moping, I went back to our apartment, fully intending on making up with him and agreeing to move to California, but he was gone. Our apartment was all packed up and he was in a U-Haul with half of our things. The worst part was I’d already mailed out our save-the-dates,” she muttered, bitterly.
“This was the first time I saw him, well the first time I saw basically everyone since we called off the wedding. I almost didn’t come, but I couldn’t do that to Piper and Jason. So that’s why I hired you,” she trailed off, looking at Percy.
Percy held out his hand to her, “I respect what you’re doing. He’s an asshole, and you shouldn’t have to face him alone. I’m glad I’m here.”
Annabeth took his hand, standing up. He was looking at her so kindly and sincerely with those beautiful green eyes. He didn’t release her from his grasp. They were so close. If Annabeth tilter her chin forward, they’d be kissing.
When his lips were about to brush hers, she breathed, “I don’t know if you’re okay with anything physical.”
“I’m an actor, Annabeth, I kiss in shows all the time. But it’ll cost you, that’ll be another $500.”
Annabeth blinked, pulling away from him and cracking a smile, “I hope it won’t resort to that, but good to know you’re prepared.”  She opened the door and slipped into Cabin 3.

hey blu, i was ondering if you could make a story based on chapter 14, I've got the umbrella about how raven finds or accumalate shirts for jason that are cringe worthy
Hello,
Oh Gods… I have collected a mass of shirts for Jason so I hope you enjoy! =)
Hopes for a Bastard Universe
Shirt Raids!
Raven walked through the store of goofy shirts, havingselected a few for Jason, and herself.
“Rae!” Stephanie bounded up to her holding a shirt thatread: IDK. IDC. IDGAF.
“Yes, that’s perfect!” Raven smiled devilishly as she pickedit from Stephanie’s hands. Raven was a quest; a rather vital quest, to annoythe hell out of Jason, who had bought her 1984, Frankenstein, Count Dracula,It, The Shining, Books of Blood, Broken Monsters, and the Exorcist; all ofwhich he knew she despised with a fiery passion. Not because they weren’t goodpieces of literature but rather because she did not fancy the horror storygenre as a whole; despite her goth period in her tweens she’d never likedhorror. It reminded her too much of herself, so she was on a quest to find themost annoyingly inappropriate shirts for him to wear in public and set hisothers on fire.
She had about five Deadpool ones, which were givens givenhim. But others were also to annoy his family.
Her personal favorite of the selection was one meant tofreak his family out and probably have him on the floor laughing. It was a ZombieMinion and the caption read ‘That Awkward Moment When A Zombie Is Looking ForBrains And It Walks Right Past You’. Another shirt she had picked up would havehim cringing at the hordes of women who’d run after him ‘Orgasm Donor’, also ‘Mister↑ Right | Mister ↓  All Night’, ‘ ⸌LegRests⸍ ’, ‘If You See Me Running Call 911’, ‘No.’, ‘I Prefer My Puns Intended’,‘Only Because Badass Problem Solver Is Not An Official Job Title’, ‘IntrovertsUnite! | Separately | In Your Own Homes’, ‘I Have No Idea What I’m Doing’, ‘Fuck| -verb [faak] | -ing -er -s| Fuck can be used in many ways and is probably theonly fucking word that can be put every fuckingwhere and still make fucking sense.Fuckers.’, ‘Not to get Technical But According to Chemistry Alcohol is aSolution’, ‘I’d Rather Be Reading’, ‘No Pants Are the Best Pants’, ‘I Try Notto Laugh at My Own Jokes But We All Know I’m Hilarious’, ‘→ The “She” to My “Nanigans”’,‘← The “Miss” to My “Chief”’, ‘I’m Currently Unsupervised | (This Should FrightenYou)’, ‘I Would Like to Publicly Announce That I Have No Idea What I’m Doing’, ‘ToQuote MacBeth Act II, Scene I, Line 587: “Shut Up”’, ‘Classy As Fuck’, ‘EverythingHappens for a Reason… And That Reason Is Usually Physics.’, ‘To Quote HamletAct III, Scene III, Line 92 “No”’, ‘1984 Was Not Supposed to be an InstructionManual’, ‘I Drink and I Know Things’, ‘Thick Thighs Save Lives’, ‘”K.” WellPotassium To You Too.’, ‘My Imaginary Friend Thinks You Have Serious MentalProblems’, ‘I’m Ready. | Nat Turner 1831’, and ‘I Bake Because Punching PeopleIs Frowned Upon’.
Given Jason surly, grouchy exterior Raven could see wheresome of these shirts would be offsetting to his persona, others were likely tohave him either cringing or others, and others were just too fucking hilariousfor her not to pick them up.
“Little Brother will have many shirt,” Cass observed.
“He handed me horror novels, he’s losing his shirts,” she statedfirmly.
“Marry him!” Cass smiled, Raven groaned as her head fell inher hand.
“No.”
“Rachel!?” a voice gasped, Raven twisted around to see Rena smilingas she approached.
“Rena?” she said and stiffened as she was pulled into a hug.
“It’s so good to see you! Where’s Jason!?” she asked.
“Little brother is home,” Cass answered.
“Shame, I’d have loved to have caught up with him,” Renasighed.
“Jay’s busy, you know, stuff,” Stephanie announced holding ashirt that had Raven snorting as she bit her lip to keep from laughing; ‘I havea PhD | (pretty huge dick)’. Rena’s face peeked with interest at the shirt.
“I see,” she flicked a meaningful look at Raven which hadher frowning.
“Not me,” she scowled. She was a virgin, a twenty year oldvirgin and likely to die a virgin too.
“Then what’s with all the shirts?”
“Little brother and wife arguing,” Cass said
“You and I are going to have a talk about Jay and I’s relationshipif you and the rest of the batty family don’t stop this,” she warned. Casssmiled and Stephanie snorted.
“Only denying the inevitable Rae,” Stephanie stated.
“I am not!” she snapped at the two of them.
“So what are your plans Rae?” Rena asked which had hersnapping over to the brunette who smile kindly.
“Rae school with us,” Cass announced.
“Yeah! She’s in our classes!” Stephanie announced loppingtheir arms.
“I’m going to Gotham City Community College this fall, andintending to go to university from there,” she admitted
“That’ll be a busy time, I’m heading to Princeton tocontinue my Chemical and Biological Engineering studies,” Rena smiled.
“Damn.” Stephanie gaped at Rena.
“Well, Jason never did fancy dumb women, makes sense,” Ravenshrugged.
“What are you going to study?” Rena asked with a genuineinterest that alarmed Raven’s empathy. The girl was curious about her, not Jason;odd.
“I don’t know, I going to get the basics and go from there,”Raven shrugged.
“That’s a good plan, oh, there’s Eddie, he went to schoolwith Jay and I, Eddie!” Rena shouted. Raven snatched the shirt and tossed it inthe cart just as Cass landed on the shirts and Stephanie stepped in front ofthe cart.
“Rachel, this is Eddie,” Rena smiled.
“So you’re the chick with Jason,” the blonde smiledcharmingly as he extended his hand and Raven frowned.
“I’m not ‘with’ him. I don’t know why everyone insists I am,”she sighed.
“Because Jay don’t like anyone,” Cass quipped.
“Doesn’t. And he does too,” Raven snapped at Jason’s sister.
“Little brother temperamental,” Cass argued.
“That’s the understatement of the century,” Stephanie snorted.
“Okay, that’s it, I’ve had enough socializing today! Nice tomeet you Eddie. Steph, Cass, we’re checking out and I’m going home,” Raven saiddragging the blonde and cart with her.

That Woman Over There
A You Me and Him Fix-it Fic
Rating: Teen, for some suggestive language
Word count: 3464
Warnings: none
Summary: ~ Set after the birth of Monty, Olivia’s baby ~ A dear friend of Olivia comes to visit for a week, and she disturbs the fragile peace between her, Alex, and John.
So, um, there’s been some drama about this wee likkle film. Maybe it will work to its advantage. There were some things that puzzled me in the writing, and this is my way to unravel the plot and weave it into something I might understand as a member of the tasty LGBT sandwich crew.
Chapter 1 | Read Chapter 2
She was still telling Alex stories of Livvie’s awkwardness when there was a quick rapping at the door. The baby bounced in his high seat - he seemed to recognize the knock.
“Uncle John’s here!” said Alex, and lifted baby Monty out of his chair.
Connie froze. Olivia grabbed her wrist as she stood from the table.
“Stay. Please. For Montmorency.”
“I still can’t get over the fact you named your little one after a cherry. Why don’t you call him Billy?” Connie said, referring to his first name, William. She sat back down slowly. Olivia stuck out her tongue. Connie winked.
“Monty’s a family name. I promised daddy,” Olivia said. She heard John in the foyer, cooing at the baby. He grunted, and Monty squealed with glee. Olivia popped up.
“You better not be throwing him up in the air again,” she said, heading out, and bumped into his chest. He had a goofy grin, and his eyes were huge with curiosity. The baby bounced in his arm, pulling at his sculptured beard.
Tumblr media
“Is this her?” he said without preamble, holding his other hand out. She stood and stared at it. After a couple of seconds, he put it down, but his eyes moved up the long line of her body. “Bloody hell, you’re a tall gay.”
Alex slapped his arm. “Don’t fuckin’ curse in front of the baby,” she said through her teeth, then slapped her hand over her mouth. Olivia’s face twisted in distress.
“Jesus, Al!” she said, putting her hand on her hips. Alex blew her a kiss through her fingers.
Connie watched all this with a jaundiced eye. She loved Livvie, but this was almost too much to bear. It was weird. And she despised John already.
John’s eyes moved appreciatively over her body. It made her want to rip his beard out. Olivia gave her an importunate look.
“The higher the boots, the closer to God,” she said. Monty squealed as he got a solid grip on the beard and pulled. John howled. The baby giggled as Alex pulled him away, clucking at him softly.
Connie finally smiled.
They sat around playing happy family for an hour or so in the living room. The baby lay on his stomach on the floor, rocking and kicking his chubby legs. They all took turns making funny faces at him to make him laugh his huge, almost adult laugh.
Connie was in love.
She took Monty in her arms and gave him a raspberry on his fat cheek. He grabbed the cloisonne rose barrette in her hair, fascinated by the gloss and color. He tore hair out of her head trying to get his prize, and still Connie kissed him.
He held up the pin to the sun and babbled happily.
“It’s a rose, darling,” she said, pulling it gently out of his mouth when he tried to have a taste of the pretty red thing. “Una rosa.” She wiggled his chubby legs. The baby squealed, as if trying to repeat it.
“It’s lovely,” John said, but he wasn’t looking at the barrette.
“She’s damn near the ambassador for the rose industry in America. I’ve seen the photos on Facebook,”  Alex said. She was referring to her business - a flower artist for the crème de la crème, coast to coast. She could cover a ballroom with complex swirls of colorful flora and transform it to a perfumed dream world.
And very rich people paid her a lot of money to do just that.
“Roses are the queen of flowers - not only graceful and gorgeous, but they exude their perfume for days after they’ve been cut, giving the exhibitions another layer of beauty,” she said. “I love creating with them.”
“What do you do with the flowers after?” John asked.
Connie’s smile faded, but she took a deep breath and kissed the baby’s tiny foot.
“What makes the installations so meaningful are their evanescence,” she said, as if speaking to a child.
“The band?” John quipped.
“Their short-lived nature,” she said. “No matter how large-scale, I must work quickly to make sure the client enjoys the flower’s beauty to the fullest. And the best part is knowing that such beauty won’t last forever - that they are standing in perfect moment in time, making a a memory…”
“Poetic. Is that in the brochure?” John said. Connie flipped him the bird with both hands. His eyebrows rose.
She put her hands over the baby’s ears. “Newflash, asshole - it’s a website,” she said, and picked Monty up and walked out of the room
Olivia punched his side. “Why d’you have to be such a twat?”
“I’m just following suit,” he said, crossing his arms.
Alex and Olivia sighed, but Connie came back in and lay the baby on the floor.
“It was about damn time you became a mum,” she said, and poked the baby’s swollen belly. “but what a crazy way to go about it. I know some rad New York gays who could’ve helped you. Artists. Musicians.”
“Dirty hipsters,” John whispered.
“You’d fit right in,” Connie said, not looking at him.
Olivia’s smile faltered. Connie crawled to Alex and took her hand.
“We both know Livvie’s high strung, but she’s a blessing isn’t she?”
Alex smiled. “I’m not used to all this Livvie talk. How exactly did you two meet?”
Connie sat between them and put her arms around them both. “She didn’t tell you?”
Olivia began to turn red.
Alex shrugged. “She said you met in New York, when she was there as an exchange student. That she had a crush on you, but it never went anywhere.”
Olivia bit her lip. Connie smirked.
“Imagine it - New York in the 90’s. Everyone’s wearing baby tees and parachute pants and Doc Martens and mourning Kurt Cobain…”
“Sounds rad,” Alex said, perking up. She was only in primary school in the 90’s.
“It was appalling,” Olivia muttered. They made terrible fun of her and her plaid skirts and pearls. Everyone except Connie, the girl next door. Her dad was a Nicaraguan diplomat, her mother bored and medicated.
“But Livvie never liked Nirvana or Oasis,” Connie said, smiling at her. She preferred N*Sync.”
John and Alex snorted in unison. Olivia went crimson, but she didn’t deny it. She still had a thing for Justin Timberlake music.
“I didn’t like Nirvana or Oasis either - I preferred New Order, Depeche Mode, or Verdi. So, it didn’t matter anyway.”
“Verdi?” said Alex.
“You know, La Traviata,” said John. Alex made an I-don’t-know face. “Opera music. Fat ladies singing?”
“Eww - but not at the fat ladies. Just the singing,” she said.
Connie patted her shoulder. “Anyway, I was bored out of my mind, sitting on my front stoop when this vision in pearls walks by. I mean, it was a sight - the longest pleated plaid skirt I’ve ever seen, poofy blond hair, clutching her books against her chest so hard her knuckles were white -“
John chortled. “Sounds about right.”
“Shut up,” all three women said in unison. John went back to playing with the baby.
“Anyway, I was listening to some Roxy Music on my boombox, and as she passed, she lifted her nose at my glam rock - but it was a very cute nose indeed - and it quivered, a bit like a bunny's-“
John whooped. They stared lasers at him, and he picked up the baby. “He needs a change. I’ll be right back,” he said, and walked quickly out of the room.
Connie sighed, as if a weight had been lifted.
“Why do you have him around?” she said.
“Because we do. No use in being so unpleasant,” Olivia said, then winced. She knew why Connie didn’t like him. And she understood. But she couldn’t deprive the baby of a male role model. Although she didn’t say it, John had grown on her. He only looked, and occasionally acted like an absolute twat. But his heart was pure gold.
At least, most days.
Alex poked her side. “You were saying. Her nose quivered like a bunny's,” she said, tugging at Olivia’s pony tail and wiggling her eyebrow at her.
“Oh yes. Well, she was acting all posh and snooty-“
“-It was because I was afraid you would yell something cruel at me.” Olivia interrupted.
“Never!” Connie said. She knew all about being different.
“I was a diplomat’s daughter with a shitty Spanish accent. Everyone at school pretended they couldn’t understand what I was saying. It was a hilarious joke. Even the teachers did it.” she said. She was freshly arrived from Managua, and at the time, she still had a strong Spanish accent. It didn’t make things easy.
“Me too,” Olivia said, and sighed.
“Speak American,” Connie said, crossing her eyes and sticking out her tongue.
“I hated when they said that,” Olivia said. “Even with an accent, you still knew more English that most of them.”
Alex was in between them, with a bemused look on her face. Connie didn’t have any accent - except an American one.
“Where did it go?” she said.
“I worked really hard to get rid of it. I got sick of people calling me Selma Hayek,” Connie said. “I even changed my name to make things less awkward.”
“What’s your real name?” Alex said.
Olivia giggled.
“You shut up,” Connie said, pointing at her.
“It’s … Encarnación,” Olivia said. “It means incarnation in Spanish.”
“Incarnation? Sounds goth,” Alex said.
“It’s a Catholic thing,” Connie said. “Like Jesus being the incarnation of God?”
Alex shook her head. “I don’t do religion.”
“S’okay. Neither do I, these days,” Connie said.
“That’s a lie and you know it,” said John, walking in with the baby cradled in his arms. Monty sucked placidly on a bottle of milk. “You leave the windows open a lot nowadays. I hear the name of God often enough at night.” He gave them crooked grin.
Alex chuckled, and Livvie blushed. Connie didn’t understand it. Why didn’t they want to snatch his perfect, seal-smooth wig right off?
Connie popped up. “I’m gonna see a man about a horse,” she said.
“What the f- does that mean?” John said, but he was amused.
“To powder her nose,” Olivia said helpfully.
“Nay, darling. Take a leak,” Alex offered.
Connie pointed and winked at her. “Bingo!” Then, she disappeared.
“Well, she’s nice,” John said, putting a burp rag on his shoulder and hoisting Monty up to tap lightly at his back.
“She hates you,” Alex said, picking up some errant toys. “Stay away from her.”
“Most women do when they first meet me, but I change their mind with my irresistible charm,” he said. The baby burped loudly. He giggled.
“I don’t know whether it will work this time,” Olivia said, holding her arms out for the baby. John gave him back reluctantly. “I think you should go. We’re about to head out for dinner.”
“And why can’t I come?” he said, sticking his lower lip out. “Or, better yet,  I can take care of Monty while you ladies are lesbian together as a group. What is it called … a preponderance, or a velvet box of lesbians?”
Alex laughed, and shrugged at Olivia. It had been over two months since they had some baby-free fun.
“Connie’s not a lesbian,” Olivia said. “And I don’t think so. She wants to spend time with the baby too. She’ll only be here a week - you’ll have Monty ‘till he’s 18.”
“But not when he’s soft and tiny like this,” he said, cradling the baby’s downy head in his hand over Olivia’s shoulder.
“It’s just five days. Don’t … rile her up. She has a temper,” Olivia said, putting the baby down in a play seat.
Connie sauntered back, holding an old bronzing lotion bottle. Alex yipped.
“I’m surprised you haven’t let John take this with him,” she said, throwing it underhand at him.
He caught it smoothly and stuffed it in his pocket. “For midnight mass.” He winked. Alex and Olivia rolled their eyes.
Connie glowered.
After coming back from dinner, they sat in the garden, drinking and laughing softly.
He could hear them through his open windows. He had been trying in vain to get the G flat scale on his guitar, but his fingers were failing him. He threw it on the bed and walked downstairs.
Connie. Although he had a clever quip for all her insults, they still stung. Why didn’t Olivia stick up for him? He was good enough to take care of Monty, but not good enough to demand respect from her tall, irritatingly clever friend?
Bull shite.
It was an unusually warm night, and his back windows were open too. He took a beer out of the fridge and sat at his painfully fashionable butcher’s block table in the kitchen, listening to the feminine sing-song of their voices.
“-Damn it why’d you even come back with us?” Alex said. “In another time, I would’ve gone home with ‘er, no questions asked.”
“Al!” Olivia squealed.
“I said in another time. Right now, I’ve got my girl. With the sexy quivering bunny nose,” she said. He heard the smack of kisses.
“Oi, you too. You got time enough for that after I pass out,” Connie said, but her voice was full of mirth.
“She was really into you,” Olivia said.
“I think it was the magic of Monty,” Alex said. They laughed. John smiled in his dark kitchen.
“It was kind of creepy. How are you gonna hit on a woman holding a baby?” Connie said. He noticed that since she was drinking, her accent was different. There was a bit of something else in there. It was … nice.
“I think she knew he wasn’t yours,” Alex said. “You look far too fresh-faced to be a new mum.”
John giggled.
“Oh, that’s nice,” Olivia said.
“I adore you, dark circles and all,” Alex said. “In any case, I’ve a got a nice set of my own.”
He heard clinking glass, and smelled wine on the breeze.
“I’m not in the mood for lady love right now,” Connie said, finally. “I’m kinda drained on lesbian drama.”
“What?” Alex said.
“The New York queer scene can get really weird sometimes. Too much politics,” Olivia said, quite matter-of-factly.
“And not enough pussy,” said Connie.
John wriggled on his bar seat. He didn’t want to be aroused by the thought of Connie rooting slowly between the thighs of another beautiful sapphic lady, but he still swelled and made his skinny jeans uncomfortably tight. Jesus, not again. At least it wasn’t about Alex and Olivia. He had gotten over that a while back.
“To pussy!” Alex said loudly. It must’ve been a toast.
“Without a side of politics!” Connie said, and glass clinked again.
“Hear hear!” Olivia added. It was adorably posh, and there was laughter.
“It’s been a while since you did anything, though,” Olivia said. “Don’t deprive yourself on our account. We can do without you a night or two.”
“I have plenty of time for single serving affairs in New York,” she said. “And I haven’t seen you in over two years.”
“But this would’ve been a guilt free vacation affair,” Alex said.
Connie laughed. “Nah. Not my thing,” she said. For some reason, John’s heart dropped.
He heard the canned sound of a crying Monty - the video monitor.
“I’ll see to him,” Alex said. He heard the soft smack of kisses again, then the sliding door clicked closed.
“Have you found anything on Ella?” Olivia said.
“Not really. PI is just about exhausted every source.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. You warned me. I didn’t listen.”
He was lost. Ella? PIs? Sources? She must be an ex-lover. It sounded sordid.
“I’m sorry anyway,” Olivia said. Monty’s crying stopped, and they heard Alex softly singing to him.
“I’m so happy you made it up with her,” Connie said. “I told you to have faith. Not all artists are self-involved jerks. I knew Alex would come around. A strong woman, she is. I can’t imagine-”
The baby hiccuped, and started to sing himself softly to sleep.
“You should’ve dropped Monty off with Scoliosis Boy after dinner,” she said.
“Jesus, Con! I told you that in confidence!”
John frowned, and his eyes began to burn. He got up and sat on the counter, by the window. Although his first reaction was to walk away, he needed to know what Olivia would say.
“Squeak squeak. Squeak squeak,” she said, then snickered. He didn’t need any explanation. She was imitating the sound of a brace.
“Stop it, Connie. It’s cruel.”
“Fucker’s back is straight enough now,” she said. He didn’t comprehend her bitterness. He tried to be nice to her. He didn’t really succeed, but he tried. “He looks like a leather-clad pipe cleaner.”
The sound of Monty’s sleepy song cut out - she turned off the monitor.
“You seem more bitter about what happened that I am,” Olivia said. “And I forbid it. I’m over it. I’m happy. I’m sorry …  if your life hasn’t turned out the same.”
There were a few beats of silence.
“That was a low blow, Liv. And for that affected, misogynist asshole next door? Wow.”
“You don’t know him like we do-“
“-I know him well enough!” Connie said. “He ruined her life.”
“I didn’t mean it that way,” Olivia said. “but you can’t blame him individually for what happened. It’s not fair.”
“He put it out there. He poisoned him. It’s his fault.”
“It was a long time coming, long before John. And it’s not terribly surprising. Aren’t Latin men misogynist to begin with?” Olivia said.
There was silence. He stuck his head out to hear better. The window box heavy with potted herbs creaked with his weight.
“I’m sorry,” Olivia said, so softly he could barely hear it. “Ella was a horror. You deserve better anyway. And you will find it. I know it, Con.”
“That man. He wheedled his way into your affection, and I don’t understand it. How about if he fills Monty’s head with that Mannism nonsense too?”
“I’ll eat his heart in the marketplace,” Olivia said.
John gasped. The wood groaned, and the window box fell to the patio with a crash.
The women screamed.
“Good night, ladies,” he said, poking his head out fully and waving bashfully.
“Good night, John,” Olivia said.
Connie’s face was set in stone. “I’m going to turn in, love. Thank you so much for today. Tell Alex good night,” she said, and walked into the house. Olivia walked across to his yard and started picking up the broken planting pots.
“How long were you eavesdropping?” she said, handing him an intact pot of thyme.
“Just a little bit. Squeak squeak,” he said, giving her a hurt look.
“I was angry at you when I first told her about you. But I never said anything like that. I promise.”
“I told you that in confidence. Not even Alex knows the grim tale,” he said. “Not all of it.”
“She’s beyond my best friend. More than a sister. I tell her everything,” she said, kicking loam into the bed of irises just beneath his window. She looked at him. “I know that isn’t an excuse.”
“Did you guys ever…” he wiggled his brow. He inspected the rotting wood of the broken window box.
Olivia shrugged. “Not really.”
“What does that even mean?” he said. Already, he was designing a far stronger, more beautiful box in his head.
“We were young, and didn’t know what we were doing,” she said. She leaned into his window and rested her elbows on the sill.
“Even if you don’t know exactly what you are doing, you’re still doing something,” he said. He handed her a fresh beer. She drank, then burped quietly.
“We experimented. But she was my first love.”
His eyes widened.
“It was more than sexual. It was … a deep, intense, passionate friendship. The sex was … inconsequential.”
“That’s bull shite,” he said, running his fingers through his hair. “Sex is never inconsequential.”
“You say that to the steady stream of ladies who come through here?” she said, and took another drink. “Turn on the light, will you?”
“If you’ve noticed them, then you must’ve also noticed that there are many less lady guests since Monty,” he said.
“You don’t have to curtail your activities because of him. Especially if it drives you to listening for naughty noises at night through open windows.”
“I was joking about that,” he said, throwing the broken box on the table. He would start on the new one tonight. He had too much energy to sleep.
“It was crass,” she said.
“You know I don’t perv over you ladies anymore, right? That was before I really knew you. I wasn’t gonna let her have the last word, though.”
Olivia bit her lip. “That might be a losing battle, John. She’s clever, and has a very sharp tongue.”
“By what I heard, so do you,” he said. draining his beer. “Who’s Ella?”
“Shit,” Olivia said. “It’s not your business.”
“And yet…” he said.
“What did you hear?”
“Stuff about a private investigator and running out of sources,” he said.
Liv sucked her teeth. “She’s an ex-girlfriend. Ex-fiancee, actually.”
“I thought you said she wasn’t a lesbian.”
“She’s bi,” Olivia said.
“Oh. Is Ella why she doesn’t want to be with a woman now?”
Olivia rolled her eyes. “You really got stuck in, didn’t you? Ass.” She put the beer down and walked away, but John stuck his hand out the window and whistled at her.
“Wait!”
Olivia stopped, but she didn’t turn around.
“I like a difficult woman. You think she’s in the mood for some guilt-free, vacation man love?”
“Good night, John,” she said, and walked into the house.
