tbf, the "not shipping the canon het relationship is misogyny!" thing has escaped containment enough to the dumbest, most homophobic het-onlys that I've seen those people argue that for F/F pairings where there IS no competing M/M relationship, where people genuinely couldn't give less of a shit about the guy and are only in it to put the woman with someone better. Or when the M/M ship they also like is completely non-overlapping.... somehow it's somehow still misogynistic for them to prefer this completely DIFFERENT woman with her female best friend over whatever crappy guy she's with in canon whom they ship with nobody.

My friend has seen this in Bridgerton fandom, where people throw out the "but misogyny!" shit for people who prefer shipping Eloise with women, over her book-canon male love interest (who is a rapist who sucks and she ends up basically just being nanny to his kids, gee I wonder why a lot of people don't want that as the eventual fate of the character who in the show is the Outspoken Feminist). Their claim for why that's supposedly what's going on is these same people sometimes also like to ship her brother Benedict with men.... but like, the "canon" ship isn't Benedict/Eloise. Nobody ships that. They just like both of them in same-gender relationships. And in Eloise's case, it's clearly motivated by a love of Eloise as a character, a dislike of her book husband, and often also liking her relationships with other women in the show and thinking it would be interesting to ship them. What could possibly be misogyny and "pair the spares" about that....?

(Granted, the people mad about this in Bridgerton seem particularly homophobic and stupid and like, new to fanfic fandom or something. They had meltdowns about someone tagging a het ship with its ship tag when they wrote a fic with one of them Rule 63'd..... pretty sure that's standard AO3 practice to do that? The person tagged it as either M/M or F/F - whichever it was - rather than F/M, and put a tag in there about it being Genderswap/Rule 63, they were adequately warned. So there was literally no reason to complain except that you mad that you were reminded of the existence of non-het in your fandom by scrolling through the tag. The horror! Or maybe it's 2024 and especially if you're using AO3 of all fucking places, you need to get the fuck over the idea that "can gay people exist but like, not where I can see them?" is a preference it's ok and normal and non-bigoted for you to have)

(hi there! sorry if this is disrespectful or anything, feel free to delete this ask! i was just concerned because in the comments of jimmy's recent videos, it seems that he might make a video reacting to fanfictions...

very concerning! especially because it seems like he didn't contact the creators of the edits in newest video beforehand. no offense to him, but i genuinely do not trust him to handle fanfiction in a respectful way. he's very hard-working, but he's getting dangerously content-brained!

anyways, the reason i'm sending this ask to you is because you seem to frequent his streams a lot. VERY sorry if this is disrespectful to ask, but if you do attend his next stream, is it ok to ask that you try and send a message in his chat? i would myself, but he streams after midnight where i live T^T i really hope that someone well-versed in the rules of fandom spaces (maybe scott (ｰｰ;) ) can talk him out of it, but i would be very grateful if any chatters could discourage him during his next live.

(Hey shy anon, I didn't show up until a little after the ban, but I was on the english side of that fandom so i know a lot. my eternal condolences, I'll never stop being upset about what happened!)

It is not at all disrespectful to ask politely, which you have! I am not going to send a message in his chat because it is an absolute hellhole, but people I know have left thoughtful comments on his youtube, which I think is 20x more useful. He sees those in his own time and can think about it. Chat is running nonstop, super fast, you get instant reaction in the chat from all kinds of sorts - seriously i love jimmy and i have nothing against younger people, but holy hell that chat is mostly intolerable to read. Most streams I don't even have it visible. Jimmy has very little time to think in response to chat messages, it can't be nuanced, and the first thing he says is now public record.

Overall, I don't think Jimmy will react to fanfic. If he does (and I've been wrong predicting Jimmy before!), it's going to be something like Wholesome Seablings Adventures. I can not imagine Jimmy reading ship fic - unless I guess it's incredibly pg canon-ship? There's all kinds of "pg youtubers", and Jimmy's more on the Katherine side of thing, appealing to families and genuinely little kids. If you look at the saucy things he lets in, you generally need some real non-pg context for it to feel non-pg. (there's always exceptions)

When people demand he address shipping he tries to say as little as possible. He's been shown nsfw fanart while he was streaming. He knows what is going on and he's not going to touch that. He's thoughtful when it counts, and since these aren't stream reacts, he has time to think hard about what he's actually going to use. So if he did do fanfic, there would be plenty of never seen footage of Jimmy of going "holy moly!" and moving on. When it matters, he is generally thoughtful and respectful.

Like the time he realized he was confused about asexuality (he didn't know about aromanticism) and slowed down to be really careful he didn't say anything accidentally hurtful. (for context shelby is ace but dates and he knows that. look at his poor little face trying to understand.)

Maybe he'll mess up this time, I sure hope not, but I'm not personally freaking out.

Also, exactly one time he opened tumblr on stream, it was the sexyman poll, and he read my reply to the post (i'm the one who called him a wet paper bag of a man, my claim to fame.) I showed up to apologize, he was a sweetheart, and he said this about tumblr, that he knows we want our own private space. He's respectful at heart.

I am not on tiktok, but until your ask, I'll admit it never occurred to me he might contact the creators before reacting. Thinking on it, I guess I think of TikTok like youtube, where it is loudly tossed out at the whole world for attention, but I'm not on TikTok.

And why do I think ao3 is different? Well, I have no coherent answer besides "vibes" and "more contained audience" and "everyone knows everyone is on youtube and tiktok".

In the end, I have been hyperfixating on this man for sixteen months and I believe it'll be okay. If I'm wrong, well. We'll make it through this, gang. We'll take care of each other and keep going. Nothing's stopped us yet!

Forget Me Not (Severus Snape x OC)

Chapter 1: The Feast

Summary:

Shortly after Theda Desmond replaces Professor Binns as Hogwarts' new History of Magic teacher, she learns that she possesses a rare talent known only to the legendary Altier family, former founders of the French Ministry of Magic who mysteriously went missing over 200 years ago. As she works to uncover the secrets of her curious origins, she develops an unlikely bond with the brooding Potions master, Severus Snape. As their friendship grows, the two begin to recognize that they share a common pain that few have experienced. Will their unique ability to understand each other set them on a course toward healing and new beginnings, or will the ghosts of the past return to tear them apart?

Our story begins at the beginning of Chamber of Secrets and will stick very closely to the canon timeline. While the nature of this story wanes between humorous and romantic, it is also, in many ways, a story about the non-linear nature of grief. This is my first fanfic, so I hope you enjoy it.

Warnings: brief allusions to struggles with body image. Future chapters will contain some smut, discussion of death and suicide, as well as non-sexual abuse.

“It’s nice to meet you, Professor Snape.”

He said nothing as he continued slowly skewering small pieces of food onto his fork.

"May I ask which subject you teach?"

"Potions." He said, his tone sounding slightly pointed.

"You know, you are the only teacher at this table I envy," Theda said, enthusiastically. "Potions was always my favorite subject when I was in school."

"Perhaps you should teach it, then," He replied in a monotone voice, still not meeting her gaze.

Unsure if he was being sarcastic or not, Theda chose to ignore the comment.

"Actually, I am quite happy to be teaching History of Magic. That was my second favorite subject in school, and I feel like I could genuinely get the students to take an interest in it. I hope so, anyways."

"Hmph," he muttered. "Good luck getting any of these thick-skulled children to take an interest in anything that doesn't involve flying around on a broomstick or foolishly waving their wands about in the air."

"Well, we shall see." She said, smiling. "Even if I get one kid to take an interest in the subject, I'll count that as a victory."

"Yes, well... You'll soon find that these children are practically unteachable."

She said nothing, unsure how to respond.

"Still... I do hope you succeed in kindling a flame, however small, in at least one of your students."

Don't watch canon if your fanfic isn't canon.

I made the mistake of watching several extended clips from Miraculous Ladybug after Season 2. My curiousity got the better of me.

Now I'm finding it difficult to write my fanfic.

I mean, canon is so seriously fucked. Turning Gabriel basically insane, changing him so drastically from Hawk Moth. Giving Marinette PTSD. Making Adrien, what? What the fuck even was he by S5, except the "love interest?" Originally he had the most important potential arc of all the characters: his father was his nemesis. This was Shakespearean. And what did they do to the poor kid? Completely chicken out. Just locked him in a room. Shit.

I saw part of the episode where Marinette goes swimming and freaks out, seeing bugs and spiders, and having a meltdown, and I thought, Wow, what a fun show this has become.

And then there's what they did to Andre, of all characters. I hadn't known he was so bad -- I'd thought he was just a buffoon -- and then for him to kick his daughter to the curb and just up and leave with his stepdaughter, abandoning all his political and parental responsibilities . . .

I mean, jeezus fuck. The writers really hate these characters.

I found this fanvid criticizing what they did with Andre. I don't know how accurate it is because I haven't watched most of the episodes (I don't have streaming), but if this is spot on then Andre's arc is complete bullshit.

My input probably isn't needed, since much more intelligent people have already spoken on this, but here are my two cents:

Dark content is okay. It is totally fine if you take interest to it and like it. However, there's a BIG difference between dark content and straight up crimes. Incest and stepcest? Morally and ethically questionable at best, straight up wrong at worst. Not my cup of tea, in fact, I find them very repulsive. But someone else might like it and that's alright - as long as both characters are consenting adults.

What isn't okay is rape and pedophilia. I've seen a rise in both in all fandoms recently, Resident Evil and Call of Duty being ones that hurt me the most. I don't know what's causing it, but it needs to stop ASAP. The first blog I ever followed on Tumblr turned this way recently, and I was so disappointed and sad. A person who used to write eye-catching stories and amazingly written smut turned out to be someone who now almost exclusively writes non-con. It hurt me to press that unfollow button. Rape is never okay and should never be romanticized. People need to accept that.

Pedophilia? Y'all are just disgusting for that. There are young and impressionable people on this app, and no amount of minors DNI warnings will make them go away, because they're hormonal kids and they like what is forbidden. I know from my own experience, I was very much underage when I first started Wattpad, then AO3, then Tumblr. I read smut at the age I shouldn't have. Thankfully, I was a bit more self aware and emotionally mature than mist people my age, so I ended up fine, thank God. I knew what was kinky and what was wrong and the distinction between the two.

But the vast majority of kids aren't like that, and when they read fanfics that romanticize grooming, pedophilia and rape, they will get the impression those things are normal IRL and it's okay to do them and/or it's okay if it's done to you. SOME OF Y'ALL'S WRITING IS ACTIVELY PUTTING OTHER PEOPLE ***AND MINORS*** IN DANGER, AND THAT SHOULD NEVER ***EVER*** BE NORMALIZED, ***YOU SHOULD STOP***!!!

I know this isn't what I usually leave in your inbox, nic, but this needs to be talked about every chance we get, because it's unfortunately getting normalized to sexualize minors and victims :(

Hey New Moon anon honey, I've missed you and thought about you recently. I saw this when you first sent it to me, and I've been meaning to answer this for a while as well as my other messages in my inbox but I was just so exhausted as a whole I couldn't give you a proper answer. But I have enough brain power now to respond lol.

First, I do appreciate and value your input, I agree with everything you said and also relate to you heavily. I was also in the COD fandom for a while when I first came on to Tumblr before I formally transitioned into the RE fandom, and I saw that same trend with people who wrote for Ghost & Konig in particular. I can write essays on the correlation of the fantasy behind sexual violence and military propaganda but then we'd be here all day. It's also difficult to read characters that have a canon history of sexual abuse (Ghost/Simon Riley) inflict that same level of harm onto other characters even if it's fictional. There are a lot of layers to violence and aggression in sexual culture, particularly in environments where the military is involved since that's something people who are in the military go through, but I don't want to dwell on that too much.

Personally, being someone who started engaging in sexual content and material at a very young age because I got too curious on the internet, I know how dangerous it can be. I know how it can fuck with your head when you see something online and get too engaged in it that you want to recreate it out of curiosity. Minors often have this experience, especially when they reach an age where they want to replicate or mimic what they consume. It happens at all ages, it’s not their fault, and with the hormones that run through their bodies, it's inevitable. That's why I'm emphasizing just being safe on the internet with what we as creators release to be shared and spread around when we live in an age of unrestricted internet access across all platforms regardless of how hard you try to use filters and warnings.

I hope that at some point, the content we see when it comes to smut writing or writing as a whole kind of calms down in the RE fandom, but until then all you can do is block tags, spread awareness, and keep it pushing.

Choose violence ask game: 1, 9, 10, and 22 for "Romeo and Juliet"

1. the character everyone gets wrong

Hmm, good question. My first impulse is to say R&J themselves, Romeo in particular, as their (actually complicated) personalities and characters get frequently misinterpreted. But as I’ve already discussed this frequently in my blog, I’ll opt for an unconventional answer: Mercutio himself.

Not in terms of getting his personality wrong (although I’ve seen plenty of angrymacho!Mercutio, childish!Mercutio, and even woobie!Mercutio, curiously enough), but in terms of adaptations taking Mercutio’s POV and opinions and attitude as gospel. Mercutio is portrayed as a guy who not only talks shit but makes up shit as he goes along (re: Tybalt being a poseur duelist and Benvolio having a ~secret hotheaded side). You’re not supposed to take him seriously but enjoy his trash talk for what it is—premier trolling.

Instead adaptations and fanfics accept his POV unquestionably and even accept it as canon (Baz Lurhmann movie introducing him as the Prince of Cats, Benvolio getting portrayed as a macho asshole, etc.). And of course, that’s where most of the Romeo-is-effeminate clownery comes from, even though Mercutio himself doesn’t think this (only that he has gotten pussified by ~love) and canon blatantly contradicts this.

9. worst part of canon

Tough one. Shakespeare’s canon is almost flawless. I guess making Rosaline a Capulet could be considered a plot hole. He did it so that Romeo has the push he needs to go to the party…but technically he could have made Rosaline just a random invitee rather than a Capulet. And Capulet turned out to be very chill with non-Capulet invitees anyway. So yeah, I don’t mind adaptations that make Rosaline into a Montague or a non-related Capulet. This does show Shakespeare’s lack of fucks about the feud beautifully, though.

10. worst part of fanon

I don’t think that this counts as fanon, per se, but I once peeked at some (hopefully non-school mandated) fanfics in AO3 and got a strong whiff of not one, not two, but several Juliet-is-cool-BFFs-with-Bencutio-while-latter-constantly-makes-fun-of-whiny-woobie-Romeo. Oh, God, you guys are killing me. Also, the Macho Action Hero/Strong Female Character(tm) Juliet, but that is part-and-parcel with the overall clownery.

22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

…People are still sleeping on Juliet’s likening Romeo to a little bird she’d like to tie in a silken thread to pluck around as she pleases and Romeo 110% replying with “I would I were your bird,” huh? You guys really do like your innocently chaste kawaii R&Js. Admit it, these kids are freaks!!!

Nah, just kidding. Well, this is not something everyone ignores as much as miss entirely…but there’s Romeo’s “Let’s talk” when he decides to stay with Juliet after all after their wedding night. The antis always whine about how R&J are just lustful fiends and they are not ~really in love, and this small, almost throwaway line completely disproves it. Romeo decides to stay and his first suggestion about what he and Juliet should do…is to talk. Because he likes talking to Juliet and most likely they did speak through some of the night. Because he clearly wants to know everything about Juliet. Because their love so far has been just that—words—so of course their default is to talk.

20 Questions for Fic Writers

Thank you so much for tagging me, @scary-grace! This was a lot of fun!

1. How many works do you have on Ao3?

18, though I’ve only posted a fraction of my BNHA stuff on there and there’s even some JJK stuff I haven’t posted there yet.

2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?

217,870. And wow it took me way too long to find that lol. I didn’t even know about the Statistics page!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently, Jujutsu Kaisen and Boku no Hero Academia. I wrote for a ton of different fandoms back in my “previous era” I’ll call it lol. I wrote for One Piece, Naruto, Final Fantasy (mostly 7 and 12), Death Note, Gundam Wing, Harry Potter, Durarara!!, and lots of other things (almost all of it featuring non canon ships like Cloud x Yuffie and L x Misa). I’d like to try writing for Bungou Stray Dogs and Demon Slayer at some point.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments?

I try to! But sometimes if it’s a comment on an older chapter of something I might not or if I got several close together I miss a few and then I’m too embarrassed to go back and respond later. Or if they just comment with an emoticon, I’m not sure how to reply lol.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

In my current era, it’s definitely the Mr. Compress chapter of The Dark Carnival. I have other fics that end badly for Reader but this one felt very tragic to me.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of mine have pretty happy endings!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Current era, I occasionally get people complaining that certain Readers are wimpy or stupid or whatever. I even had one person on AO3 write out a huge wall of text about how one of my Reader characters was a Mary Sue (they simultaneously complained that she was too weak and useless in a fight but also too perfect). But I tend to shrug off those comments. Readers are supposed to be Mary Sues. They’re literally Reader/Writer self inserts! Part of the appeal of x Reader fanfiction is the fantasy of Reader being an idealized version of yourself. So yeah she can hang out with the League of Villains and be the only girl Dabi has ever liked, or she can be old high school buddies with Gojo and Geto and they’re both crazy about her. It’s all fantasy.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes! And I write pretty much all kinds that don’t involve my three “big no’s” (minors, animals, or scat/pee/vomit).

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not since I was a kid, writing Sailor Moon/DBZ crossovers lol.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not in my current era, not that I know of. In my previous era, I wrote a Gundam Wing fanfic that got really popular in the fandom and was ripped off twice. Not exactly copied word for word, but very close in both cases. They basically changed the wording around a bit but kept the entire plot the same (and it was a very unique AU with a big, sprawling plot).

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I know of!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Like 20+ years ago a friend and I were co-writing a very fucked up DBZ fanfic together. It was actually pretty good, but it was unfortunately lost to time. I’d give anything to find it and be able to read it again, but she’s the one who was posting it and she deleted her account a few years later.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

I’m just gonna go with my current fave ships of my two main fandoms: BNHA (Spinneraki) and JJK (SatoSugu).

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Probably The League of Villains Heroes. I love it dearly but it gets practically no notes so I have little motivation to keep working on it.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I’ve always felt like dialogue is my strong point. Probably because, until I was up into my 20’s, I rarely read actual books and almost exclusively read comics/manga (which tend to be dialogue heavy). I think I’m pretty decent with plotting as well.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Descriptions! 😩 I am so bad at describing things. Or rather, I’m bad to just… not do it. I literally forget to. I’ve had friends read my work and be like “what does this place look like?” Or “what does that guy look like?” And I can see it all so clearly in my head that I forget readers can’t see it as well.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I sometimes toss in some honorifics just because it seems weird to have certain characters not use them. Other than that, I try to avoid throwing in random Japanese (the only other language I would even consider using, just because these are Japanese characters). I did have Sukuna say his famous “Gambare, gambare” line once but it’s just too iconic!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

First I wrote for: Sailor Moon. First I actually posted a fic online for: Dragon Ball Z.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

I’m going to pick one from each fandom, only among completed fics.

After receiving a lengthy comment on one of my recent ao3 works, I’ve spent most of my morning thinking about how fanfic writers portray Jason Todd.

People write fanfic for a few reason, one big one is they don’t like the canon and think more can be done with the characters/plot. It’s not the only reason, but it’s fuelled plenty of fandoms over the years.

Jason is a difficult character to write. He’s been handed around countless writers, had some good stories and some bad ones. He was unfortunately relabelled as the angry Robin, killed off in a way that a lot of people were not happy with, and the legacy he left behind in-universe affected every character.

I have mixed opinions on Under The Red Hood. I own the comic, I’ve read it, and I did enjoy it as a storyline. Do I like Jason as a morally grey antihero/villain? Yes. Do I think he deserved more than to be used as a pawn in the succession of Batman, Talia’s plan to send Damian off to Gotham, and essentially being a distraction? Yes.

Not that he could have been ‘good’. His anger was justified from his perspective- because nothing worthwhile changed. He died and, sure, Bruce changed the way Robins operate and the gear to add extra protection, but that’s still a child soldier. Jason was the first Robin in line to the grave, even if the major deaths were retconned later on.

It’s his anger at Tim- which yes can be accounted partiality to being replaced and pit madness- that I disagree with. Jason died as a kid because of Robin, no matter which way you spin it. That anger at the injustice should have been spun to his brutal protection of any child. Tim shouldn’t have been excluded, if anything he should have been protected more.

A lot of the stuff I write is AU I don’t write Jason as a villain much currently but I’ve always enjoyed the more anti-hero leaning Jason. I don’t care about him killing, being a crime lord, or antagonising the Bats.

I can see everything his character is and has been and still wish his hand of cards had been better.

My personal opinion, which means shit all to any one else and you are very welcome to take with a grain of salt, is Jason's villain-arc should have been him acting solitary, separate from the League of Assassins. One gripe I have with fanfic is others writing that a non-league affected Jason would go straight back to Bruce. I don’t know about you, but if I were in Jason's decomposing dress shoes I’d be pretty pissed.

As I’m writing this now, I really want to create that story myself- which is the whole point of fanfiction.

This is longwinded and could be put in better words, but these are the only ones I’ve got I’m afraid. Fanfiction can be a change to canon and it’s characters, some good and bad, but always different. It doesn’t mean we ‘don’t even like the character’ or aren’t a true fan. Every portrayal will variate from the original.

Robin in the past has been viewed as a generic side kick, with very little difference between Robin 1 & 2. Their designs were near identical, their creation based on being Batman's partner, and No.2 was quite literally voted by the readers to be murdered. Of course they will be different as they grow and change with their audiences, they are stories.

Jason Todd is not the same character he was 40 years ago and he will continue to evolve for the next 40 years. Fandom will defer from canon as it picks an audiences favourite parts and ignore the lesser liked. I don’t try to write Batman comics, I personally have no interest of doing so, I am perfectly happy writing short online works about what I like from the stories I’ve been provided with.

If you don’t like fanon, read canon. If you don’t like canon, read fanon. It is as simple as that, there is no need to start insulting peoples understanding of your favourite characters because they hold different opinions to you. Enjoy comics without policing others.

It's baffling and disgusting how you are okay with both supporting and creating porn involving two canon teenagers, one of whom is canonically sixteen. You've said you're an adult on this account and yet you still write about two children having sex and you like posts about those children having sex. Why you have any kind of platform is beyond me.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

so Fade to Black and Fade to Black and Back, my two multi-chapter smut series for Star Wars Rebels, are I guess going to be my enduring fandom legacy lol. 637 kudos for the first and 452 for the second.

After that it's...more smut, but Talk About It is Dragon Age smut, and I guess my most popular stand-alone story at 399 kudos.

Then it's back to Star Wars Rebels, but Wedding Dance (377 kudos) is a gen fic, so that's my most popular non-smut piece. Braided at 320 kudos is another explicit one.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I always mean to, but sometimes when a bunch come in at once I get overwhelmed. I try and go back and respond to unanswered comments every time I revisit an old fic. Just this week I answered a couple that were seven years old *wince*. It's never too late, right?

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

That's Scenes From Rivendell, no question. I can still make myself cry re-reading that fic. Poor Celebcarch.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of them have happy endings really, but I'll say the happiest is Marriage of Convenience, because it was written to provide a happy ending for Alistair and Anora--and that's a pairing that only arises out of some pretty grief-laden circumstances in Dragon Age: Origins. So that's the fic that takes something sad and makes it better.

8. Do you get hate on your fic?

A couple times people have tried to chide me for writing smut, which is like ??? Did you not see ALL the warnings? My sister what were you even doing at the devil's sacrament?

9. Do you write smut?

I doooooo. Yes I do. I don't feel even a little bit bad about it, either.

Sex is important! It's one of the most intense, emotion-rich experiences in life! Especially in a love story--there is nothing that will tell you more about the dynamic between two people than showing how they have sex. And the smut is the part that's usually left out in mainstream media, so it's the big "missing piece" that I am often drawn to want to fill in, creatively.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I haven't, but it would be a fun challenge.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes and it's the best feeling every time. Same for getting podfic made of my stories, or fanart. Just the best.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic?

No, but from rp experiences, I think collabs are absolutely the way to go if possible. It just gets lonely writing on your own, and having a partner keeps the energy up.

14. What‘s your all-time favorite ship?

Space pirate OCs. But excluding my own characters... man, I've had poor luck with my ships, honestly. Looking back through the characters I was really passionate about, canon screwed me one way or another on all of them. I loved Mulder/Scully, Xena/Gabrielle, and Kanan/Hera, and all of their shows went off the rails at the end, so I think about them all with a tinge of sadness now.

It's better to love your own characters, because then at least when you make awful things happen to them, it doesn't come as a surprise.

15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

My only current WIP is a kid's book, and I hope I do finish it!

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialog, and also there's a sort of lyrical register that I can shift into pretty easily (it's a trick I often use for endings).

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Oh, self-indulgence. Things like writing about Kanan's seaglass eyes, or people "growling" their dialog. Cheese, basically. I don't rein myself in too much for fanfic, but in original writing I have to be strict with edits because if I don't force myself to stay spare and restrained, I'm probably getting cheesy with it.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Tricksy, very tricksy! It's certainly not something you can just hand off to Google Translate. I personally wouldn't do it unless I had some first hand experience with the language, or could consult with native speakers.

Funny story on that, for the space pirate novel, I had a bit where I needed an automated warning looping in various languages. The English was "Warning! Please evacuate the building!"

I asked my Russian friend to give me a translation, and he said I'd need to do some cultural translation first, because the Russian "would be a lot more direct. And they wouldn't say 'please.'" So he gave me Vnimaniye! Vyhodi zdaniye! which apparently translates more directly to "Attention! Exit building."

That's the kind of thing Google Translate can't do for you.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

X-Files. This was Usenet days. Alt.tv.x-files. Many many memories. At one point there was a spinoff group so we could roleplay, but not roleplay being in the show, exactly. Just like all living in a town. It was almost a proto-Tumblr.

I miss Usenet.

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

It might be The Last of the Rebel Angels: that one's not the best, I don't think, but it's the weirdest and most ambitious. I had something to say, and even if I only managed to sketch it out or gesture at it, there's still a really tender place in my heart for that fic.

gray is secretly a vampire - crack fic where outsiders decide Gray is a vampire and rumors spread like wildfire, pure humor; I'm pretty sure I saw some post on tumblr and had an idea

gratsu natsu knocks on the door - I'm pretty sure the title is a pun to the opening scene of my only multichap gratsu fic, A Sham

Naruto:

kushina lives AU - exactly what it says, I'm working on it on and off every now and then; while Kushina lives, Tsunade is actually the main character, collecting kids just like old ladies collect cats 🤣

seals naruto au wanting to keep the fox in - tbh this is basically just an idea in form of an outline and a few written snippets scattered around; don't really know if I'll ever write it completely

naruto timetravel 1 - this was actually supposed to be team 7 boruto timetraveling to naruto canon before that timetravel filler arc in boruto ever happened. sadly, I never tried to finish it

naruto timetravel 2 - naruto and sauske's consciousness from the future appear as flashes of memories/dreams to naruto and sasuke of the original naruto canon timeline before they graduated academy

kamui raw bondage - a kakaobi kinktober fic I never got around finishing, it was supposed to be a companion fic to my I've patched up the scrapes in my heart

One Piece:

LawLu stranded on an island AU plot - so this is one rare outline instead of a fic lmao (I never do real outlines 😂)

ofmd crossover - had an idea for a crossover but never finished it.

BNHA:

DFO/canon - tbh I don't even remember what this is supposed to be beyond DFO, but what I can see from a fast scan, it's one of the rare outlines lol

baku deku unconventional A/B/O - it's unconventional because it's alpha/alpha pairing; an old idea that I never got to finishing

genderswap au - ah this is one of the oldest wips in the fanfic folder; it's not so much of a genderswap as much as genderswap characters come to the canon through a portal; very fun

DabiHawks mermaid au - a discord drabble I wrote for a prompt and saved to finish one day

Lion Guard: Roar Towards the Future

It's like 3am so I'll be quick in my little self-promo, but yeah, for any of my followers who are in the LK/LG fandom, check out my new Lion Guard fanfic on my Ao3 account, Roar Towards the Future.

RTtF takes place after the events of The Lion Guard's series finale Return to the Pride Lands and centers around the Lion Guard as they adjust to their new lives outside of the Pridelands and how said lives affect them when they reach adulthood. The main intent of the fanfic was basically me choosing to cope with my disappointment of The Lion Guard's final season and ending by expanding upon the characters and their stories after the show, most prominently the controversial character of Rani and by extension, her Night Pride, in that they will have a much larger [and more deserved] role as the deuteragonist than she did in the second half of Season 3.

This fic is somewhat canon-divergent as some events of The Lion Guard as well as its prequel, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, go differently in my AU than they do in canon [the original film's events remain largely unchanged]. There will also be characters from the semi-canon fodder appearing/being mentioned such as Mufasa and Scar's parents, Ahadi & Uru, and many of the non-lion characters from the comics.

I've been working on this story since January of 2023 and I've felt like enough chapters have been written ahead of time for me to go ahead and start uploading them to Ao3 and getting more people to view it:

introducing my new AU...bricks and border!

back in april, jetpackbraggin's thumbnail image for caddicarus' resident evil 4 remake stream series sparked something in me - i started developing an idea for a cartoon series about the personas of online reviewers living in a large city. this idea eventually evolved into bricks and border!

bricks and border follows the escapades of the nintendo-obsessed scott (the woz) - an ambitious guy from the midwest who just so happens to be the younger cousin of the hot-headed mayor, and "laz" (caddicarus) - a brit with a mysterious past who is only known by his nickname. together they solve mysteries and get into other shenanigans in their city of oaksport. nothing is off limits!

this is basically a love letter to the entire comedic review genre on youtube. i'm super excited to start working on this!!

more info about the world and its wacky cast of characters will be revealed soon, but first we need to get into some format/release/disclaimer talk...(some of it's pretty important!)

this project will be written in prose format. i'm still deciding whether it will be in first person with the chapters alternating between scott's and laz's viewpoints, or just in third person. i know first person is looked down upon in fanfic, but that's just what my mind immediately goes to because they're youtubers who review things, and it's easy to imagine them narrating their points of view. i'm still deciding that though.

i will draw a lot for it as it's meant to be imagined as a cartoon series - and just like my previous major fandom project (onward the fanmade series), i will be drawing stills to accompany each chapter/episode! and i will gladly negotiate with any lumpy germ or wozzer who would like to contribute a guest still! and yes - you absolutely CAN create fanart/edits/etc. based on this AU! i would love to see them!

the big differences between this and OTFS are that B&B will not be contained in one book/AO3 work. OTFS episodes were written in script format, and episodes were released as one whole chapter. however, for B&B, "episodes" will be separate stories that could range from 3 chapters to 15.

as to when the first story will come out? i can say maybe soon, but i can't say the exact date and time. i'm gonna be a bit easier on myself with this one - as in, i won't be busting my ass to get a chapter out every single week. not only will i not be able to accomplish that with both my summer job consistently exhausting me and my senior year of college on the horizon, but i also don't want to burn myself out and not want to produce anymore content for the project. that's how the original caddicarus show died.

also, just a little disclaimer - this is not RPF. these are heavily fictionalized versions of the youtubers' already exaggerated personas - i mean for god's sake, B&B!scott is the younger cousin of B&B!AVGN, who is the mayor of the fictional city oaksport. lore from scott's and caddy's shows is referenced, and private people in their lives are absolutely not included in this (for example, cerys and the kids will not be mentioned). however, caddy's sister may be included, as she's a public figure.

with all that being said, i'm doing this as responsibly and cautiously as i possibly can - trust me, i previously wrote realistic non-AU caddicarus RPF and i almost got in trouble for it in 2017 when i was a stupid 15 year old who didn't know better. i know the harm RPF can do, which is why this is strictly being labeled as an AU. also i'm just gonna go ahead and say i won't be shipping characters in this. even though they're fictionalized AU versions of the youtubers, i feel uncomfortable shipping them. if you would like to create your own fan content of this AU where you ship the characters, i can't stop you. but i'm not gonna make it canon or anything.

that's pretty much all i have to say, i think. i hope that the caddicarus and scott the woz fans of tumblr will take interest in this!
