Completely out of step with my usual fixation, but I saw fan art with femme!Chat, forgot about it for a while, and then got hit with idea which is basically we all know Chat is 1) a huge flirt and 2) Adrien’s outlet for everything he’s not allowed to be as Adrien Agreste.

And just…au where Adrien-> Adrienne is a girl. A girl with HUGE expectations set for her by Gabriel (f, because I think this works well with a SUPER strict, unavailable mother) and one of those expectations being, of course, to be straight.

So we got Adrienne, the most closeted gay girl to ever gay, making up male celebrity crushes and doing EVERYTHING in her power to prove she definitely, certainly, 100%, no girls included, likes boys.

And on the other hand, there’s Verified Lesbian DisasterTM Chat Noir. Gay Icon of Paris. Can’t go three seconds without spewing Gay all over the place. Is she flirting or just that useless at acting straight?

What about how they’re always cuddling together? What about all the dates?

Even those who take what Ladybug and Chat Noir say at face value assume that they’re just the kind of lesbians who date for three years before figuring out they’re dating. Frankly, they’re not wrong.

But also, we’ve got Marinette/Ladybug who assume like…Chat has to be super comfortable with her sexuality, right? She throws it around everywhere. Whereas Marinette is still trying to work out how she feels about being bi. Like, she knows it’s not bad. Her parents won’t have a problem with it. Alya was delighted when she told her! So why is it still hard? Why does the thought still feel uncomfortable and, sometimes, dirty, when she thinks about it? Why is it still hard?

So of course she look to Chat, her super out and open friend, to figure out how to process it. But Chat actually isn’t okay with her sexuality at all. She pretends when she’s Chat Noir because she can, but when she’s Adrienne, she’s filled with so much shame about it. Why can’t she just be normal? Why does she have to feel this way and feel it so much if it’s so clearly bad? Sure, Chat can be gay, but Chat is a superhero and ultimately a mask. Chat can’t be real.

In this au, it’s not just Ladybug’s denial disinterest that’s holding them back, but Chat won’t actually let herself have this. Sure, she’ll flirt and make gay jokes and wear a pride flag as a cape as Pride, but actually have a relationship with Ladybug? Act on all those feelings and fantasies she has? No, no, absolutely not. She’d rather be eviscerated by an akuma first.

And Adrienne is filled with so much guilt when she’s herself for what she does as Chat. Adrienne shouldn’t do that. Adrienne shouldn’t want that. And she’s desperate not a hint of what she is as Chat Noir come through in Adrienne Agreste. This time, Chat is just as insistent, if not more, that they have to keep their identities secret. She can’t ever have her alter ego revealed. It would ruin everything. Adrienne Agreste can’t be gay.

Over time, Ladybug has to slowly figure out that Chat isn’t nearly as confident and secure in her identity as she appears be. Adrienne has to learn to actually let herself have this. That it’s absolutely okay to be in love with her best friend and partner in saving Paris (or to be crushing on that super cute girl behind her in class). And, somehow, they have to work out the classic Love Square and figure out the exceptionally obvious fact that THE OTHER LIKES YOU BACK.

I AM ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED WITH DARTH “NOBODY IS STRONG ENOUGH TO KILL ME, IT’S JUST NOT AN OPTION” VADER. It’s endlessly fascinating because the context is that Vader’s on a mission to Exegol to find out what Sidious is hiding there and he’s just been through the psychic wringer were a space squid has carpet bombed him with his own visions and fears, now he’s killing it with the Force, despite that Sidious forbad him from using the Force on this journey, and Ochi’s like OHHHH SHIT YOU’RE GONNA BE IN TROUBLLLLLLLLE. And Vader’s response is just “death is simply not an option”, which sounds so badass on the surface, but this is also the guy that has had twenty years of absolute misery in that suit, misery of everyone he loved has left him, that there’s nothing in the galaxy for him, that the fire has gone out of Darth Vader, only the last few flames of his obsession with his son remain, this is someone who has lowkey wanted to die for years, but no one is strong enough to do it. You read all the comics and watch all the supplementary materials and there’s this pattern of Vader’s recklessness, like he just walks right into an entire hallway full of rebels, he goes to meet Obi-Wan on a barren moon without backup, in this series he flings himself into fire to walk through it to get to where he’s going, he’ll fling himself at underwater creatures a hundred times his size, he’ll face down laser breathing monsters also a hundred times his size, he’ll ask Tarkin to hunt him for sport with everything he’s got. Part of it is Anakin Skywalker’s recklessness bleeding through, part of it is that Vader just is stronger than everyone else and survives everything, but you can’t convince me that part of it isn’t also that he would really kind of like to be killed, but the only person strong enough to do it would never, not until he replaces Vader, and that’s not really what Vader wants. So, you get badass lines like “death is simply not an option” and you couple it with everything else he says--he even admits, in a roundabout way, that he’s filled with fear, but that fear always turns to anger, which turns to hate, and that gives him power. So, let Sidious be afraid of him for once. This is the brief spark of life returning to Vader, now that he has something to obsess over again (his son), but it’s also just the way Anakin Skywalker’s life has gone, that we all know how this is going to turn out, that ultimately Anakin isn’t a power fantasy, he’s a sad and pathetic man who gave up everything because of his fear and lost everyone and everything because of it, and every time he doubles down on the dark side, we know that he’s making the wrong choice, no matter how badass it seems. Vader, on the surface, seems so impossibly strong and he says some really cool lines here, but you cannot divorce it from the context of how we know how all of this is going to end, we know everything that happened to get here, and that this is him trying to force his will on the galaxy around him again through hate, and that it just isn’t going to work. He can be as badass as he wants, he can have individual victories and awesome moments, but when the time comes we all know that it will never work. He seems like he’s going to actually finally face Sidious and he probably even believes that himself, but we all know Return of the Jedi is coming and how he’ll stand at Sidious’ side and do all his bidding and just UGH WHAT A CHARACTER ANAKIN SKYWALKER IS, that I can be so invested on the journey he takes, even knowing everything he’s doing is for nothing, because the true victory is in regaining his compassion, in being selfless again for one brilliant moment, embracing the light again. Because every “badass” moment Vader has is really about the underlying fear and desperation and hate and anger and suffering that he cannot honestly face. WHAT A CHARACTER, I LOVE HIM.

Hello, this is a rant post because I need to evacuate some thoughts, I know this blog isn’t for it, but don’t hesitate to respond in anyway, if you agree or not. I would seriously really appreciate, this blog is the only place where I can really discuss about stuff with people outside of my work environement (because my work is my life, and funnily enough I hate my work.)

Upon rewatching Hellsing (the 2001 show) and now ultimate (the ovas) I’ve come to realize something.

See I’m not usually one for the edgy, I tend to find it more funny and litteraly cringe than cool, it’s not that I don’t like a bit of edge, A dark character can be very cool when done with an appropriate tone or contrast, or just being an evil fucking bastard, for example ruin from UU is very very edge and cringe, but I don’t consider it bad writting at all, he’s litteraly an overzealous fanatic who think he’s god favorite very probably because he got 2 UMA in him who groomed him into thinking he was gonna survive ragnarok, ill never say that the edge in berserk is bad for example, (well I do for some of the stuff that comes before golden age. Before GA guts is a dark sasuke on steroid and outside from the halucinations, I can’t take him seriously)

But anyway, even without my not trully appreciation for the edge, nowadays when someone tells me "oh that show is so cool it’s dark and mature" I’m SUPER OFTEN disappointed. I mean come on guys, really, solo leveling is "the peak of maturity and badass?" "Omg sun said arise, and summon tons of ex bosses he fought that constantly praise him like fangirls" (And for those who haven’t read the manwha, I’ll add that those shadows are among the best characters in the series, and they aren’t great or profound.) or to change series "wow rimuru is so cool now that he transformed into a demon after eating one". "Annos is peak badass, he killed a guy then used magic to resurect him and killed him 100 times!" or even mentioning how there’s people out there who consider stuff like kingdom of ruin or redo no healer "deep and mature" because girls get r*ped in it. Rudeus being labeled as a good guy for doing absolutely no effort in helping a girl who is trap in this world with him because "ugh real world was bullying me" where we’ve seen him do litteraly no effort in real life at all.

It made me realize something, for a while I thought that "yeah it’s just not your age anymore" or "don’t be a boomer, you were cringe too back then" "you lack objectivity" but fuck it I’m gonna say it those series ARE trash, mid at best, but if you consider stuff like THAT peak, really ? You clearly haven’t watched good series, and it’s not an issue of "but it’s the genre / trope" you want good mature show ? They exist, you want a good isekai ? Same, log horizon’s worldbuilding and not have the entire world rely on the powerfull but not op protag is right there, you want a good power fantasy ? Ever heard of fucking dragon ball ? (I know it’s a shonen neketsu first, but really shonen neketsu is power fantasy except with a minimum of depth and characters with personality)

I won’t spoil in details Hellsing / Hellsing ultimate because I really think it’s a story that needs to be watch, but it’s not just good because "ahahah ultra badass psycho vampire, girl with huge boobs and even huger guns and English lady boss kill nazis" the whole story is a parallel about moving on from traumas of the past and the idiocy of following dogmas / the past without thinking, and that’s just scratching what’s good.

Meanwhile what does a show like solo leveling teach us ? "Be on the grind and a sigma male and be super handsome rich and strong because that’s the only way girls and people will care about you and respect you ?" "Be a piece of shit to people and you’ll be rewarded" "every Japanese is an asshole" (ok in all seriousness that last one is something in manwhas in general and it can easily be understand that Korea has a grudge against them because of history)

Anyway all that to say, I’m tired of pretending that mediocre, or even bad series are good just because duhu they’re popular and it’s the new style. There’s PLENTY of good new stuff. But people don’t focus on it and it’s fucking pissing me off.

Just in the shonen genre : dandadan, yozakura familly, undead unluck (duh), jjk ( i mean it’s not very "new Gen" and tbf the last arc crumbles because of gege’s writing and him being stuck with underdeveloped characters that no one care about because he put all his eggs on just a few chars. Basically it was very good for a while, like mha really (even though for mha it’s because the author takes 0 risk and just wants to please the fans) didn’t paid off, but you can respect the work) sakomoto days or yes even kagurabachi (throw in the memes) and even BIG SHOCKER one piece.

And that’s JUST SOME of jump’s content (well dandadan isn’t in the main magazine but shut up) AND I just talked about the most apreciated genre of battle shonen, staying in jump you got very fucking cool stuff like blue box, akanebanashi, csm, witch watch, elusive samouraï.

And once again, that’s just from jump and currently running. If you want good writen stories of any genre theres TON, and I can assure you that you will find badass and cool characters you can self insert into, difference is that they have actual care put into them, and say stuff, and have more than 1 character.

To chill me out I’ll remember than frieren and apothecary diaries got freakishly good results and that’s very fucking cool. I’ll also remember that we have very good non shonen targeted stuff like some high quality rom coms (dress up darling (in its first parts, gojo’s continuous depression and self doubt is getting on my nerves personally, they made him regress and it sucks) komi can’t comunicate, bochi the rock or dangers in my heart come to mind) Go watch them (the diaries have like, no action at all, but at the minimum go watch frieren, there’s a reason why people are saying it’s a new goat on the level of a fmab, as long as you have two neurons and now how to focus on a story, you’ll have a wonderfull time, it’s also plenty epic)

Anyway all that rant to say : it’s ok to like trash, I do to for other stuff, everyone does, it can even be your favorite thing. But please for the love of god and anything sacred, do yourself a favor and actually watch / read good stuff, varied at least, try to analyze what makes a good story and don’t be a slave to market that copy paste formula harder than an ai fucking could. It’s so fucking tiring to see authors and passionate project crash when next to them a copy pasta formula who does no effort and just rubs the viewer in the good way to have them brain disconnect on it. I know that anime and manga is a distraction, it’s for fun, but respect work and creativity for f sake (Queue the joke about the fact that a person who does ai art says all that)

As for what I believe will happen plot-wise, tbh I don't really know. My thoughts and analysis do not go beyond what I think will happen between Will and Mike becuase there's way too much to unpack supernatural-wise and my fantasy is limited...

I know for sure that Will will have a big part in S5, though, and it won't be just him crying over Mike. I'm a firm believer that his feelings for Mike and his queerness in general are inherently tied up with the supernatural part of this story.

There is a reason why Will was taken to the upside down, and we know from S1 that Will has been bullied at school for being queer and by his dad since before that, despite the fact that he was really just a child still. I feel like none of that was strictly necessary if they just wanted to have a simple queer character in the story. They could have brought that in in later seasons, when he was older and perhaps questioning, if it was as simple as including queer rapresentation, but no, the first things we learn about Will at the very beginning, even before we get to know him as a character, is that he's missing and he's bullied for being queer. Not just that, Hopper makes it a point to highlight the fact that for a split second him being queer might be more important than him missing.

Think about it, if that information had never been offered to us, would the story have played out differently? As far as we know, not really? Yes, we see that the bullies mention that different times but he could have been bullied for another reason and technically everything could have played out the same, right? We get hinted that Will might be queer before we even get to experience Will as a character. That's... a lot of emphasis on it for someone who we have basically seen on screen once.

It almost feels like they are suggesting that he was taken because he's queer. The bullies even kinda infer it by saying that "he's in fairy-land now with all the other fairies", which puts the idea in the watchers that the Upside Down is the land of the queer.

But think about it, would a kid so young even know for sure if he's gay or not? What made people (and his dad) even think he was?

Joyce describes him as a "sensitive child", which was also used as a descriptor for Vecna by his dad.

Will and Vecna shared similarities since they were children, then. Vecna saw this in him. "Sensitive child" suggests to me that Will might have had the potential to develop powers, just like Henry did. Because contrary to Brenner's lab experiments, we do not know how Henry came to be with powers. By his explanation one day he just... awakened them. If he saw similarities between himself and Will, wouldn't he also think that Will might awaken his powers, then?

Will survived a week in the Upside Down. Whatever took him (I assume Vecna now) did not kill him on the spot. He was not a prey, clearly. Which suggests to me that Vecna might have been trying to recruit him. Possibly train him to open more portals? Since El had refused to do so once already.

I think the reason why the Upside Down is stuck on the day Will entered it is because Will changed it to look like that, the same way Henry made the Mind Flayer look like a spider, I think that day Will might have actually shaped the Upside Down into something that was familiar to him, without even knowing it, which is also what helped him survive. Suddenly the Upside Down didn't just respond to Henry, but Will too.

I think the fact that ultimately he turned out to actually be queer is just a "coincidence", but it might also be what ultimately will set him apart from Henry himself.

I just know that by the end of the story, his feelings for Mike will play a part in all this. They might be just the thing that helps him get away from Henry's control, or what awakens his powers (assuming he has them dormant somewhere), but his love for Mike will make a difference somehow, and that will make the reason he was kidnapped the first time also the reason why the evil was defeated. It won't be "he was taken because he's queer" anymore, but "he won because he's queer" instead.

I think the overall message of Stranger Things is that people should learn to accept and embrace their queerness (as in "what makes them strange, special and unique) and not conform (in Eddie's words "conformity is what is killing the kids") because there are STRANGER things out there than being gay or nerdy or black or toothless. And I feel like they chose to have Will be queer in the story because the word queer also means strange and they played on words with that. Which also makes me feel like they might reclaim the word "gay" too, because yes, it means loving someone of the same sex, but it also means HAPPY.

The Upside Down might simply be a metaphor to the "inside" of a person's mind when they push themselves too hard to conform to society and bury what makes them different. It wouldn't surprise me, because the whole thing with Vecna and Max this season was all a big metaphor for depression and suic*dal thoughts.

So I feel like Will accepting that he's gay and voicing his feelings for Mike and feeling damn good doing it is actually the completition of his whole character arc and possibly also the whole point of the story.

(Which in turn makes me feel like Byler endgame because??? Otherwise what was the point... You cannot put Will at the center of the whole narrative and then make him miserable and rejected?? How does that follow the message you're trying to give... I mean he could just accept that he's gay and get empowered that way, except they spent way too much time in S4 establishing that he's IN LOVE with Mike. If they wanted to go the gay acceptance route they would have given him THAT struggle without relating it to Mike. The moment they chose Mike as the other side of this issue, they decided the fate of the story to me. It's either happy ending or they screw up the whole message of the story)

So, see, I have no idea what is going on in the story, but I have lots of ideas about the overall narrative of it haha! The plot doesn't interest me as much as the narrative apparently. I'm also curious to see how they will get here and if I've actually read their intentions right...

I just saw this post by this feminist who is getting upset at leftists for saying that women should take unhoused people into their houses and she makes it out like unhoused men are potential predators. The reality of course is that mo. I mean, those guys at yale were chanting "no means yes, yes means anal" - This is YALE, it's obvious that these rich guys feel entitled to female bodies. However, no matter how badly the rich actually act. starting wars, raping women, destroying the environment or whatever, the female fantasy is that they are going to find some rich powerful dude who will take care of them and really, I wish I could be rich and powerful to protect a woman, but it's pretty hard to rise in this world at the current point without being a total dirtbag.

Some of these rich guys of course know they are in the public eye, wanting to be famous like warren Buffett so they don't do anything overtly antisocial like rape. But Buffett is in secret societies, Omaha is right next to stratcom and he's politically connected being a senator's son. Like most rich men, his wealth is built partly upon his intelligence, partly based on his greed, partly based on his knowledge of how politics impacts business and partly upon his poltiical contacts, but it's also based on his willingness to participate enthusiastically in a vast system of lies and violence in order to become one of the few that "make it."

And people literally worship these guys. They don't care that they are getting rich off of the backs of countless suffering. Normal people, you know, they look down on the poor. Even more so. Ugh.

At least most of the feminists are not evil. I think they are really, really misguided, but at least they center morality upon a specific group of people "women" and maybe you can even join this group by becoming a transwoman.

I think that's going to have to be the long term game plan despite the fact that I basically disagree with the morality of feminists as well simply because, well, at least women aren't bad. You have to make compromises with the world and honestly it's not like you really have much privilege being a man anyway.

I often think that someone like ShoeOnHead is like the ultimate feminist because unlike a lot of the other feminists, she appeals primarily to men, while being politically motivated. She's funny, smart, ambitious- you can really see her taking over.

And the socialists, the socialists are all about Palestine. I guess they think that Israel shouldn't exist and everyone else should have a country except the Jews- great.

This is basically a world where no one reflects your values. People obey evil, think women are the moral center of the universe and where what people want is to get rich and famous- not build a good society. the churches claim to be about god, but churches have recently been targeted for sheltering the homeless. Talking facts, well, as Trump puts it facts don't matter. There's this one train conductor for instance who takes extra time out of his day just to harass homeless people who sleep on the bus. O, and they will hire security guards for literally empty hallways and harass you for loitering. They will pay hundreds of millions of dollars to build prisons. One girl I met on facebook, she talked about how killing the poor was the only solution.

And the social character of everything is based upon a lot of groupthink too.

Some feminists, but not most, have the dignity to talk about the way that rape is used as a weapon of war against the poor. About how rape is encouraged in prisons.

And, I can only imagine that maybe some guys come through prison, 25% of the population now has a prison record. That combined with all the free porn (someone is funding it!), - this isn't good grammar, but many guys must go through prison and come out rapists. So, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy, but not because being poor = rape, but because people intentionally force poor men into situations where they must commit crimes, then traumatize them with rape in prisons and then presto- they come out rapists the other side of that horrible experience. Rather than stop crime, the prisons are designed to create criminals in order to justify the punishment - a sort of pre-destination I guess.

If you are a rich man, you can go to yale or harvard or wherever, yell and scream about rape with your friends, probably actually rape girls for fun. Go on to become a rich man with a nice front life, look respectable all day. It's a big part of white culture really, looking respectable. For at least some of the Jews it's part of that culture too: looking holy while they go on to rape children.

The feminists are right about one thing which is that these "top" men like Andrew tate or Elon musk really are scumbags. Elon Musk wouldn't rape anyone, but he is designing brainchips to help enslave future generations of humanity and is on the robot bandwagon too. Gates helped with the vaccine genocide.

I also just learned something from RAINN today too which is that 60% of the rapes in prison are not committed by the prisoners themselves, but by the prison staff. How nice of them to commit crimes against criminals. So it's even a myth that the criminals themselves are the rapists. It's the prison guards who are the actual rapists, but since they are working for the system they never get charged. The prisoners are probably only raping each other BECAUSE the guards are raping the prisoners and some of them are hoping to not become raped themselves by becoming perpetrators.

And this is the type of world you get too when there is constant war because the most violent lying people rise to the top very quickly. They could go on a quest for god. Do as proverbs 8:9 says and just obey the rightful king of the universe, but instead they want to fight about who should be in charge with everyone having their own opinion.

In such a situation where everyone wants to be in charge and will use whatever tactic to get to it.

It's important to call it evil too. not just violence, because sometimes people are violent not with the intention of causing excess harm but to stop it. Whereas all these prison guards, security guys who steal poor people's stuff and harass the homeless, NSA, CIA freemasons whatever who do "secret operations" to screw over the public, do organ harvesting or whatever. The scriptures of course say that only god is good and it may be true honestly. I don't even think I can totally articulate all the ways that people just do stuff and it seems so fucking wrong. People don't even obey sane and objective measures of law such as the human rights documents. If they did, they would have to shut down the entire US prison system. And of course, no one needs to open their house to homeless either. You just need to let people build houses or open all the empty spaces that are all over the country to the homeless. There was endless spaces in Greenfield, in . there are even ruins and such. There are lots of empty houses in Boston. They are just owned by these big property developers and no one wants to interfere with the rich making money.

The less houses, homes and space available, then the higher the rents. That's the reality. The windsors and a few other families own most of the property. If we were to fix homelessness by confiscating a few of their properties or something, it would drive rents down. If we adopted sane polices, we would be sure to make sure the vast majority owned their own homes. However, policies are designed from the top down to restrict as much housing as possible.

Restricting land access is a long battle. I think owning land is ridiculous in and of itself honestly. Who can really say they "own" the land? Did anyone create it? O yeah, I guess god did so god should own all the land. However, instead, people choose to endorse these big killing states which slaughter people and take the land.

I was watching Dhar mann studios and these are like these moral tales and such. a lot of horror movies are moral tales and I noticed that they don't include the police most of the time. I think this is the reason that god is always so vengeful. The police supposedly exist as a sort of moral force which stops people from doing immoral things. However, what happens if no one will protect you? What happens when the police are corrupt? I guess if there is anyone who is going to punish people who hurt you, it's going to have to be you. Then of course, if you do so you're going to have to be clever or something though, because if you DO retaliate, they might call the police on you and the police like to throw the poor in jail. How nice huh?

Listening to darkmatter2525 brag about how fewer atheists are in prison. I am not impressed. he fails to mention how evil the world is even while using the bible verse which talks about how evil the world is according to god. I guess he just doesn't get it. He thinks that only god does evil and the bible, and not man is the source of any evil. his assumption, that the authorities who throw the people in prison are good people, well that's not true. These politicians are professional liars who cover for the professional killers and torturers.

Same goal of putting all the power and money into a small fascist class with the promise that you too can join this fascist class someday if you work hard enough at the pyramid scheme. I cocked my brow, turning my attention from the male back to the childlike girl

-”Eh? And who made you the keeper of the seats?” I shot back at her, every word of the second statement laced with some sass. With your hands placed on your hips, the blond just crossed her arms, staring at you challengingly

-”Ugh, I feel even less talented just looking at you! If you wanna save yourself from total embarrassment AND from being treated even worse than Tsumiki, then get out of my sight!”

-Wow........

-Followed by an eye roll, you whizzed passed the bratty girl. You only sat next to the boy she previously pointed you because it was the only open seat that was the farthest away from her. Well, you probably know who you aren’t going to call for missed notes

-With the thud of your bag hitting the wood floor underneath your new desk, you sat down near the cute boy. He closed his book, turning to you. Before you could say hello, he beat you to the punch. However, his first words towards you shocked you even more than the spoiled girl you first met

-”Oh, you must be the new student I heard about. (Y/N) (L/N), the ultimate (Y/T), right? Well, my name is Nagito Komeada, the ultimate lucky student. I know my talent isn’t really that great compared to yours. And my trashy presence is probably boring you right now. Don’t worry. I’ll go so you don’t have to feel embarrassed being near me,”

-.......................Was everyone at Hope Peak’s academy this weird?

-As the white haired male gathered his things, you frowned, thinking that you were destined to be an outcast here. You already made an enemy without even saying much, and now you just pushed away a potential friend

-As you let out a depressed sigh, the pale boy couldn’t help but frown to. He stopped picking up his things, placing them back on his desk. He sat down again, apologizing for making you feel bad

-”Huh? Oh, I’m sorry. Did you...actually want to get to know me?” He asked you, making you nod. This made his foregoing cheerful smile form again on his face, as he turned his whole body towards you

-”I’m so flattered someone with such a hopeful talent wants to talk with a worthless human being like me! You said it was your first day at this school, right? Maybe I can show you around during lunch if you want,” He offered. At first, his harsh view of himself baffled you a bit. Not really the most appropriate way of introducing yourself to someone. Nevertheless, you shrugged this fact off and accepted his offer to show you around school

-From that day forward, Nagito Komeada became your best friend

-Before you two started dating, you use to do everything together. The only things that changed after you guys were a couple was a few pet names here and there and kissing/hand-holding

-Nagito tried to keep his distance as much as he could after showing you around. After all, everything went smoothly after he showed you around school. It was screaming for bad luck to occur not only to him, but to you to!

-How dare trash like him tarnish an innocent, loving ultimate like yourself with his despair inducing luck cycle? It was foolish of him to think that he could ever have the honor of calling an ultimate like yourself a close friend. He would only cause you trouble--be a burden

-Yeah, like that was going to stop you

-You basically sat near Nagito during class time, lunch, after school activities, and even walked home together. While Nagito tried to end your conversations as soon as possible, you were skeptical. Didn’t he like you? Or...was it just pity that he just chose to stay in his seat near you on your first day?

-His distance between you was quickly closed when he explained his luck cycle to you during cleaning time. He ended his reasoning with a sigh, preparing for you to leave and never talk to him again. He even had a few suggestions on moving desks in class

-But what you said startled the pale boy

-”I’d like you see your bad luck try to tear us apart. I don’t know what it’ll bring for us in the future, but I do know one thing: I’ll never leave your side, Nagito. I enjoy being around you and nothing can change that”

-From that day, Nagito’s attitude did a whole one eighty and you two became inseperable

-Was it really possible for someone as disgusting as him to be friends with an ultimate? Going over to each other’s places to do homework, watching bad movies and eating slightly burnt baked cookies, laughing at terrible jokes inside jokes no one else would understand.....

-No......Nagito knew he didn’t even deserve to think about you in such a way. But the infamous lucky student could help but grow...an even more intimate bond with you. He already braced himself for a rejection, mentally preparing himself for the utmost despair that would flood his heart. Could he even work up the courage to tell you these strong feelings? Was he being selfish? He already felt greedy enough for keeping you away from hanging out with the other ultimates--that’s where you belonged. Not with mere trash like him.

-He pushed his luck keeping you as his best friend. To have you as his lover? His true source of hope in his life? C’mon Komeada....be realistic here. You were meant to be alone and die alone! Your luck cycle will always be a constant reminder of that!

-Perhaps....it wouldn’t hurt to try it? After all, where there is despair, there will be hope that will rise from it! The day when you and Nagito were suppose to try a new outdoor cafe but it rained? You offered to make your own coffee and pastries at your house! The day when you and Nagito took a walk in the park and you broke your leg because you didn’t see that sidewalk crack? Nagito was by your side through the whole doctor’s trip and he managed to cheer you up by buying you a lot of snacks from the vending machine

-Like.....when he placed only not even 200 yen into the vending machine, it glitched and gave him five baggies of chips instead of one

-Maybe his good luck would be on his side and you would accept his feelings! Then he could turn his fantasies into the reality. All you needed to do was say yes and he’d give you the world! You’d be his precious angel of hope, his darling love, his ultimate luck charm

-.......But that would just be too convenient. It would be too good to be true. Bad luck.....good luck.....which would one overpower the other and make it all worth it

-Obviously good luck! Hope conquers all after all! You weren’t a mere stepping stone like Nagito was. You were an ultimate after all! A pure symbol of hope! To him, you were a shining ray of hope, the angel that provided him light into his dark life. He wanted needed you more so than ever. It was now or never, Nagito. I can’t keep relying on my luck. Especially for something as important as this. This will all be determined by (Y/N)’s feelings. After all, they’re not that kind of person to never talk to their friend again after a love confession.....right?

-”Eh? Komeada-kun, are you okay?”

-Nagito was snapped out of his thoughts, as he turned to his best friend. The ultimate let out a sigh, gripping the backpack strap that was slinged across their shoulders even tighter. The ultimate (Y/T) knew that her best friend was known for being a bit...absorbed in his thoughts

-”Honestly Nagito, did you even listen to what I was saying?” The question slipped from a pair of soft lips, a hint of annoyance laced each word. The duo kept walking away from the school, back to Nagito’s home. Hangouts were usually at his house for obvious reasons. His parents were dead and he was basically all alone. It must get pretty boring with just himself in such a big house. He also had more money than an average person spends in their lifetime, so that was also a bonus

-Nagito almost found himself lost in thought yet again, smiling to himself. He would’ve been in tears if you agreed to move in with him after just a few months of dating. He knew that you two were still in high school, but just imagine how perfect it would be. He wouldn’t have to worry about being lonely, he wouldn’t have to worry about if you were safe and happy, he wouldn’t have to worry about a thing. Just you and him--just the way he liked it

-The (H/C) student noticed Nagito’s small smiile, and cocked their brow. They snapped a pair of (S/C) fingers in his face, literally snapping him out of his personal trance for a second time

-”Nagito, what is up? You’ve been spacing off and mumbling to yourself for the past few weeks. Is...everything okay?” His best friend asked him, as Nagito pulled out his house key, sliding the metal into the lock. The turning of gears signaled that the large estate was unlocked, and with a gentle push of the double doors, both teenagers entered

-”Oh, I appreciate the concern, (Y/N), but it’s nothing to fuss over. I’ve....actually been deep in thought about...a certain someone lately,” The white haired male admitted, shutting the door behind him. (Y/N)’s furrowed brows became raised him shock and somewhat cheekiness. They never took Nagito for the type of fall in love. Not that he was cold or unemotional, but he never interacted with anyone besides them, Hajime, or somewhat, Chiaki. And he never showed any romantic interest in either of them. Who could he possible have on his mind?

-”Oh? Is that so?” The Ultimate (Y/T) curved a smirk upon their lips, as they walked closer to the skinny boy. With the thud of a second backpack joining Nagito’s onto the floor, (Y/N) took a seat on the leather couch, the playful smirk never leaving their adorable face “And, may I ask, who is this lucky someone that is on your mind?”

-”Well.....they....um....they’re really beautiful, dedicated and skilled at their talent, and even manages to outshine all the other ultimates. They’re truly optimistic, joyful, and a wonder to be around. I think I may love them more than hope itself,” He blushed, the small smile creeping back onto his face. (Y/N) chuckled lightly, crossing their legs along with their arms

-”Wow, they must really be something if you love them that much. Can I get a name along with that lovey-dovey description though?” (Y/N) tried to pry Nagito even deeper, impatient to know who stole their best friend’s heart. Who knows? Maybe they can even play matchmaker for the lovebirds!

-Nagito took this small window of time to form a small plan. It seemed simple enough and maybe some bad luck would be prevented if he took a more...passive approach into expressing his feelings. His small smile was replaced with his usual cheerful, bright one, as he dug through his just discarded backpack on the floor

-”Actually....I think it would be better if I wrote it down...” Nagito stated, producing a marble notebook and pencil in his hands. (Y/N) was about to say something, but Nagito seemed eager to write down the note to his friend. He sat down on the opposite end of the couch, scribbling on a random, clean page in the notebook. The ripping of the paper and folding of it signaled that he was done, as he handed the message to his best friend

-”Looks like you’re taking all the precautions you can, Nagito. But I promise you that it’s just us here,” (Y/N) chuckled and winked at him before taking the slip of paper from him. Nagito grinned joyously, both figuratively and physically on the edge of his seat. As the (H/C) haired student folded out the creases from the once pleated paper, the words bewildered them for a second

-Will you be my one and only hope, (Y/N)?

-With a turn of their head from the paper to Nagito’s blushing face, he grinned bashfully at them, hoping he didn’t ruin things between them. He was about to say something along the lines of “I know trash like me doesn’t deserve you...” but his open mouth was covered with an index finger being placed perpendicular towards it

-”Nagito, if you even think about calling yourself trash, I will hide all your bagels! And to answer your questions....I would love to be your hope,” The smirk that was on their face was softened into a compassionate smile. Nagito felt the weight being lifted from his chest as was about to hug (Y/N) out of relief and happiness, but thought for a split second that he was going to push it, tainting their beautiful skin with his garbage touch

-Well, not like he had much of a choice, as you pulled him into a hug, staying like that for a long time

-It was that day where Nagito felt his dark world being filled with the light of hope that was you. Slowly and slowly you helped him crawl out of his despairing world and showed him the hope that you had to offer. You gave him your love and so much more--something he was yearning for for his whole entire life. He had his own hope

-Nagito never wants to stop being with you. For the first time in in his life....

Enjolras x Grantaire a.k.a. Enjoltaire a.k.a. ExR- Les Mis

How I fell into this I don't remember now. I vaguely remember reading a crackfic of this and then everything just went sideways.

This was also the fandom that helped me realize that I wasn't exactly straight and that it's okay to not be loud about my sexuality, that I can just be.

I think that explains my attachment to this ship, not to mention just the movie's Grantaire (played by George Blagden) also shipped the characters and played his character like how he thought it should be, Grantaire loving and pining after Enjolras without the revolutionary knowing it.

Except in the fan fics, Enjolras returns his feelings and they work it out, even though it's not easy because they're both stubborn as mules. Ah, ultimate fantasy I guess. And the number of great fics here, *whistle*

Also, the Les Amis? Is amazing? Especially in the modern AUs? Like they're great friends? I love this fandom so much! Permets-tu!

Shen Wei x Zhao Yunlan - Guardian / Zhen Hun

C'mon, Zhu Yilong & Bai Yu's performance and emotions? Plus just the fact the fanfic writers of this ship are absolutely amazing? Please, escape from this pairing is impossible!

Best opposites attract trope for me. An academic by day, superhero by night in love with a roguish police chief who has no powers but whose charisma, wit, and heart can get him to toe to toe with the legends.

Also, Professor Shen Wei constantly acting like an innocent civilian and lying badly? Gold!

Loki x Tony Stark a.k.a. FrostIron - Avengers

How did I honestly get to this ship? I really can't remember what started it all. I think it must have been a Loki redemption fic where Tony Stark and Pepper broke up and something something happened. Let me tell you, the writers of this ship have written sagas and ballads of epic and sometimes confusing proportions, and that is why I fell deeper into the pit. I mean, they gotta give justice to two brilliant but chaotic characters, right? Angst. This ship has sooooooooo much angst.

Eiji x Ash - Banana Fish

My god, if you want to keep your heart intact and not be reminded of all that's ugly in the world, DON'T WATCH OR READ BANANA FISH. YOUR HEART WILL NEVER HEAL!

If you're gonna watch/read it anyway, make sure to watch something fluffy and sweet after. There's a reason that people from this fandom go, "If you've seen Banana Fish's ending, then you can handle whatever angsty show you're watching now." ~ or something to that effect. Another thing we like to say in this fandom is, "Other fandoms: Let's write a Mafia AU! Banana Fish fandom: We are the Mafia AU." Yes, all of us in this fandom is dramatic af.

Yuuri x Viktor - Yuuri!!! on Ice

Uh, does this really need an explanation? Aside from the fact that you will surprisingly find a lot of Mafia AUs here because we all know that hiding behind that beautiful face of Viktor Nikiforov is a devil capable of... tearing down your self-confidence, like WTF Viktor, don't make Yuuri cry! Also, their dance together at the end, such beautiful love.

Magnus Bane x Alec Lightwood aka Malec - Shadowhunters

I never read the books and have no plans to in the near future. I just saw a video on Youtube about why Malec is life and now here I am, still reading some Malec fics from time to time.

Some stuff on the show were WTF but overall they were a really good couple who supported each other. Plus, they're a Power Couple.

Erwin x Levi aka Eruri - Attack on Titan / Shingeki no Kyojin

Not to be confused with Ereri, which is Eren x Levi, which I don't generally ship except for that one time when a writer wrote an epic fanfic series with Eren in his mid 20s and Levi in his late 20s/early 30s, reincarnation AU. Boy was that one a surprise. I did not expect that.

Anyway, I'm an Eruri fan through and through. Especially with that promise that Levi made to Erwin. And the reason he gave the serum to Armin. HE DIDN'T DO IT FOR THE KIDS YKNOW. HE DID IT FOR ERWIN. Plus, Levi, Erwin, and Hange are my special trio. Erwin's batch was really amazing.

Also, I really like the fact that the shorter and slighter person is the more badass fighter while the taller, bigger one is the more calculating and strategic one. Rocks the boat of stereotypes and all that. Bonus: how these two met. My god, what a meet-cute! 😂

Dani x Jamie aka The Au Pair and the Gardener - The Haunting of Bly Manor

It really is more of a love story than a ghost story. I dunno how to feel about this. I loved these two characters so much and I wished they had a better ending but I wasn't SO surprised because it was a horror series (Like, I was still hoping at the end that they'd be together forever but yknow...). In any case, Jamie was just awesome. And her nickname for Dani? Poppins?! God, what a lover and fighter. She was not afraid to cock a gun in a ghost's face.

Merlin x Arthur aka Merthur - BBC Merlin

Yeah, my brain is so chaotic multiple OTPs and BROTPs of the same pairing exist at the same time without clashing with one another or having major identity crises.

I actually really like BROTP Merlin and Arthur and also like reading OTP Merthur.

And when Merlin is paired with Morgana or Freya or sometimes even Gwaine, that's fine with me too. As long as his bromance with Arthur stays intact, because that's what drew me to the show in the first place. Personal preference. I see them as platonic soulmates.

*Shout-out to the Merthur writers though, you kept me sane during my "Post-Merlin Depression," which is actually a term thrown around in the fandom because of that horrid final season (not saying it's a good term but it's what it was called). A lot of amazing fics here, too, both Magic Reveal and Modern AU ones. Full of action and adventure too! I mean, there are boy-band-looking Knights and magic-wielding badasses!

Tim Drake x Conner Kent/Kon-El aka Red Robin x Super Boy - DC Comics

More like flexible otp. I dig Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake BUT I really really also dig Tim Drake and Conner Kent. When they're TimKon, it's like an entirely different entity from TimSteph. Ugh, hard to explain.

I mean, Kon telling Tim, "You'll always be my Robin" and Tim telling Kon, "And you'll always be my clone boy" is the shit. Also when Kon could pick out/recognize Tim's heartbeat. And when Tim nearly went mad scientist trying to bring his bestie back. Like, dudes, wtf. And at the same time, hell yeah.

Liu Kang x Kung Lao aka LiuLao - Mortal Kombat

- I see these two as more like ride or die best friends connected by fate/platonic soulmates. But also like their dynamic is so awesome, cute, sweet, badass, can't-live-without-you vibes.

Basically the same way I feel about Merthur. I like reading both romantic and platonic relationships between these two characters. Like, the LiuLao fan creators peeling off the layers of this relationship and exposing every raw nerve is beautiful.

They love diving into the characters' psyche, emotions, motivations, fears, and doubts and you get really amazed because... Aren't they just characters from a video game, you ask? Well yeah, but MK video game has several interesting storylines and the Mortal Kombat 2021 movie was just the perfect jumpstarter to this beautiful blaze.

I mean, "We swore that if we were to die, it would be together"? Hell no, you're not dropping that on us and not expecting us to create our very own spin-offs and 12-page essays on that shit. That's what we fans do, baby. And also, really, we need a shaolin monks/white lotus spin-off/prequel. We're starving here.

As this ship is the newest one on my list, it's the one I'm looking forward to the most. Not enough fan content, I tell you. Not enough. One of these days, I just might add my own.

But right now, it's past 1 and so I shall attempt to sleep.

In your opinion, what are good examples of werewolves done well (or alternatively done badly) in tabletop rpg systems?

I'm afraid I can't really answer this in detail, because I myself have never once encountered a tabletop system that did werewolves justice, in my opinion.

But last on my list would be Pathfinder and D&D 5e, to be perfectly blunt.

I don't think werewolves lend themselves well to something like tabletop because of everyone wanting everything to be "balanced," and in order to tell a good story, there must not be balance. There is no balanced system in real life, and there certainly shouldn't be in a fantasy world with giant monsters. Yes, I fully understand the concept of balance in an RPG system and the importance of it, but I've also never really liked the concept because it absolutely stunts storytelling. If a player wants to play as something like a werewolf, then yes, they should be more powerful than the other players, not just some silly class like "Blood Hunters" (ugh) or some Druid subclass or some other thing that completely takes over and defines that character's entire class (being a werewolf should never be reduced to a "class"), and it should be treated as a curse and be a big deal.*

I'm a lifelong RPG player, video games and tabletop, and my best tabletop experiences have happened when I've set aside my love of werewolves and instead focused on whatever story the DM wanted to tell. Throwing a werewolf into the story generally doesn't work out, unless the DM is trying to tell a story about a werewolf/werewolves, because it's too big a wrench, often just gets forgotten/overlooked/dismissed, or else it's just nothing but an "awesome button" that isn't even really that awesome and is often ultimately a detriment to your character build in terms of gameplay power (yes, I am a bit of a powergamer under certain circumstances) - to be blunt, werewolves often suck - and isn't portrayed as an actual werewolf in any way and is just a humanoid wolf dooting around, talking, interacting with everyone, being like a perfectly normal person.

So, I really can't name very many specific examples of ones that are good, nor do I want to go into depth about the ones I consider bad and very likely upset some followers.

I think that werewolves are not done justice in tabletop, generally speaking. In the right group with the right people, who are interested in and encouraging of you exploring your werewolf character and what a werewolf brings to the game, it can be fun. But those situations are extremely rare and far between. This applies double since D&D today is largely just a joke/parody of fantasy where all players are expected to make meme jokes and meta fourth-wall-breaking references that are le funneh, so werewolves tend to be jokes, themselves.

I suppose I would say this as a summary...

"Good" werewolves in tabletop depend entirely upon the DM, not the system. That's basically tabletop itself in a nutshell. It's up to how the DM portrays them, handles them, and lets players play as them as to how well they are portrayed, played as, and conveyed, because I've never seen a system alone theoretically handle them well. But then, it's all about execution in tabletop, not about the raw rules. The execution is what matters.

*: I know werewolves in D&D are not always reduced to a class, but that's a different discussion entirely, and the other things I mentioned still apply.

I think the reason I’m determined to reevaluate and re-examine my relationship with HP (to the point of getting a whole new blog because I want a fresh start and a shot at reclaiming this) is that ultimately, I think it’s the right of oppressed people to decide for themselves how to engage with bigoted media?

I’m indigenous, I’m not cis, I’m physically and cognitively disabled, and I’ve always been on the bigger side. I’m more feminine than the Cool Girl types that Harry Potter elevates and not feminine enough to win adulation and accolades for being a good woman. I’m a lesbian. I’m also the kind of not cis that will never be interested in medical transition, because my gender identity is directly tied to my ancestry and the impact of colonialism on my people. In short, I’m one of the people Rowling is gunning for, but I’ve also known that about myself since I picked up the books 20 years ago. None of this is new to me. She’s not nearly so hateful in her written works (aside from Troubled Blood, ugh) as Lovecraft or Baum or even Dahl, either, and I’ve had positive relationships with their stuff in the past even knowing that their fiction is obviously prejudiced because it’s right there in the text.

More to the point, I don’t get to opt out of seeing people say horribly bigoted shit about me, particularly since I’m a speculative fiction fan. My childhood was defined by racist and appropriative animation by Disney, racist fantasy and science fiction courtesy of Burroughs and Baum and Tolkien, and racist movies by [pick a studio here]. When it wasn’t racist it was ableist or sexist or transphobic or homophobic. Sometimes it was all of the above. And in every other case, the prevailing wisdom is that the oppressed people reading and loving and joining fandoms for these properties and stories are allowed to decide how they feel and criticize and critique and love all at the same time. You hear often that marginalized people are not a monolith, that we’re allowed to have wildly differing opinions. That we’re allowed to love things that hate us and we don’t have to spend our lives and our days being miserable. And I hold to that! I’m allowed to think for myself, and come to my own conclusions and draw my own lines!

I don’t like JKR. I’m never going to buy a book of hers again. But I cannot erase the past, and it’s downright cruel to act like there’s only one Right Way to handle a creative that hates you. I’m one of the ones being hurt. I get to say what power that has over me. If other people have a line in different places? That’s fine, that’s great. We need different voices, and I welcome the debate. It’s the hateful, cruel infighting I object to, not bashing Jo, because she deserves it.

This game fulfills all of my Aloy desires(or at least until Horizon Forbidden West releases). But honestly if you need a peaceful chill game that’s beautiful and scenic and magical and also you get ALOY! Genshin Impact is for you! The music: incredible. The lore: deeper than you’d expect for a free game. Access: pretty convenient because it can be played on mobile, PC, and Playstation. I play on my IPad Pro and runs smooth af. I use an off brand ps4 controller because I like controllers. Another draw for a lot of ppl is the hot characters 😅 I’m ace/demisexual but damn even I’m in love with these characters so much already. I simp for Lisa💜🥵

OH WAIT I DIDNT RAVE ABOUT HER CHARACTER DESIGN EEEEEEEEEEEEEK IM IN LOVE WITH IT SO MUCH

I’m sure some wanted them to go full waifu Aloy but I’m so grateful they didn’t. I find her original HZD looks to be so perfectly fitting and practical with her characterization. I appreciate that her Genshin look is fully recognizable as Aloy. I’d personally be very uncomfortable with an overly sexy look for her. I love Aloy because she feels amazingly beautiful and powerful just as she is. That is empowering for myself. Please don’t misinterpret me tho I love the other character’s outfits as well because they work for those characters. They were designed with that intention and I find it empowering as well tbh. After the exhausting comments on Aloy’s looks due to the gameplay footage in FW I would be very disturbed seeing her made out to be something she isn’t. It was actually painful for me seeing Aloy be ridiculed for her appearance. I’m a red headed woman who looks a lot like Aloy but I am not nearly as physically fit as her. So to specifically see the body shaming and fat phobia…well that hurt. I’d like to think that incident specifically influenced her design in Genshin but who really knows?🤷‍♀️

They seamlessly translated her in this world. She doesn’t feel awkward and out of place. I mentioned the lore in this world is deep and they did not skimp out on Aloy. They included her story and many very precious details that just make her addition even more charming🥰. She is a cryo character which means she utilizes freeze attacks. She has a bow and arrow(no spear🥲) and a freeze bomb she throws. Then she has an ultimate attack which is essentially a power cell that she throws in the air and shoots it then it blasts magical freeze damage in a glorious haze around her. There is a full anime attack animation oh my goodness it’s perfect!!!! Also a nice reference to her new charged spear attack in Forbidden West👀. She is also OVER POWERED AF WHICH I LOVE ! All characters have a rating and Aloy is a 5 star(which is the best). You still level her up of course but she is incredibly useful right from the moment you get her. Most of my characters are at a level 40 or higher but my Aloy is stuck at 20 until I can open up the map some more😤 BUT she still works on high level bosses in combo with other characters. On her own against a regular enemy she can still work well. I keep leveling up my characters tho and raising my world level tho so in comparison she is getting weaker 🥲🥲🥲 but I’m grinding 😅. I like to main her so I want to level her up as much as possible lol. Currently you need to be Adventure rank 20(which is piss easy to attain) on October 15th tho(??)she will be accessible on a computer but until then you must connect your account to the PlayStation network. If you already have an account and it’s not connected to the PS please be careful while connecting your account because it can be tedious and you can mess it up. Look up an article and read it carefully! Lastly, the person who does her voice acting is incredible. She has a voice similar enough to Ashley Burch that it isn’t unnerving but it also really fits in the Genshin world. All her voice lines ring true to her character and I love hearing them. They even mention Rost in her bio . my dudes 😭😭😭😭 they had me near tears. So like um play this game cuz Aloy in every iteration must be loved. Ugh also fantasy Aloy is amazing💙💙💙

OK, Word of Honor Ep 24. Spoilers, of course, so scroll away if you haven’t seen it and want to see it unspoiled.

First impression, right out of the gate – Four Seasons Manor is … very pink. Almost as pink as Wen Kexing, himself, in his current get-up. Also, it’s the place where we apparently take in and heal wounded animals, so we’re at the correct next stop on this journey. Aaaaand, then, what we’re going to do in the obligatory mid-episode extended emo-porn scene for this ep is literally sit around in our Fantasy Ancient China underwear, gaze longingly at each other, grasp each other’s hands, practically sit in each other’s laps, and have emotional, tear-filled heart-to-heart talks. We’re really going there. Good on you, show. No, seriously, this is exactly what I’m here for, so thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for delivering what you promised. Additional props for making sure Zhou Zishu looks so very pretty when he cries. Or maybe I should be thanking Zhang Zhehan and his perfect face for that, although I’m sure your lighting and camera people made some small contribution. Maybe. By the way, I notice that even in the sleeping robes, ZZS is wearing two layers. Are you currently playing a Victorian maiden because you’re consumptive and the cold is bothering you more than anyone else, or are you scandalized that your husband might catch a glimpse of ankle before the candles are blown out, my friend? I feel that either is a possibility, but given that you spent the first six eps of the show tits out in your beggar robes, I feel like it’s a little late to be clutching your collar closed.

A few touchpoints with other points of the show in this scene, maybe most prominently – ugh - the way I’m catching shades of Xie Wang and his Awful Yifu in the flashback scene with Zhou Zishu and Prince Jin. The fact that your interpersonal tactics are looking kind of like Awful Yifu’s interpersonal tactics does not fill me with confidence, Prince Jin, with your supposed vulnerability and how only he can help you and the hugs and when can he come and help you. It makes me uneasy, Prince Jin. Am I supposed to be uneasy about this? (Is this a deliberate unease you are creating in me, show?) Because it’s going to turn out that you’re going to take this kid, Prince Jin, this cousin of yours who’s struggling with all his might to support his own sect, who’s vulnerable at just the wrong (right for you, I guess) time, and you’re going to turn him into a murder weapon in pursuit of power and your own personal agenda, and that … that sounds kind of familiar and Awful, Prince Jin. I’m kind of questioning how much you actually care about this kid and how much you’re maybe gaslighting him in this scene. The fact that you were willing to have him sacrifice his entire sect for you, leaving him isolated, with no one in the world except you … I’m getting kind of a familiar creepy vibe off you, Prince Jin.

Also, I did twig that the poem you quoted as the poem that your shared laoshi wrote on the walls of his prison in blood before his body was cast out into the wilderness to be eaten by wild dogs – it’s the same poem you recite as Zhou Zishu rides away from his own bloody cage when he manages to escape Tian Chuang and you in Ep 1, so maybe you realized that keeping him, at that point, was only going to kill him immediately, but I’m not feeling particularly sanguine about the fact that you vowed to get him back. The fact that he’s supposed to be powerless and increasingly vegetative only makes this vow more creepy, because what DO you need want him for, in that case? (Also, did your laoshi write that poem at all? Or was that more gaslighting?)

They’re also pressing hard on the theme of “knowing” in this one, of knowing someone – we’ve always got the bedrock idea of zhiji, the one who knows you, tying Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing together, but that’s complicated, in ways this ep points up. Zhou Zishu says that the reason his other shidi died tragically is that they didn’t know him at all, but by contrast, he tells WKX that there’s nothing between them that can’t be spoken and then goes all in by revealing all of his deepest, darkest secrets, including that he sees himself as a coward and a deserter. This is in contrast with WKX’s (and A-Xiang’s) current stealth mode of hiding everything and just not talking about it. In this ep, we even see A-Xiang’s decision - for herself and as proxy for WKX’s actions (because these two relationships are the same relationship, at this point) – to say nothing about the latest jianghu big gossip re: the devils of the Ghost Valley, but instead to beat it out of town as fast as she can with her boyfriend before he can hear about it. Because that isn’t going to come back to bite anyone in the ass. A-Xiang, I love you to death, and I realize you’re terrified, but I really need you to get off the mental hamster wheel where this is concerned and THINK.

Anyway, nowhere in Zhou Zishu’s telling of this tale of how he’s the ultimate failure who killed everyone he ever loved because he was naive enough to be taken in by a power-hungry asshole is there the slightest indication that he thinks any of this info will make his shidi/zhiji turn away from him, and indeed, Wen Kexing’s response to further knowing his zhiji is to say, but you have to stop blaming yourself, you must have had your reasons. Even though Wen Kexing won’t, can’t, see that Zhou Zishu’s response to him opening up and letting Zhou Zishu actually know him would be the exact same response. I mean, ffs, my dude. The guy told you last ep that he will help you burn down Zhao Jing. Take a hint. But no, Wen Kexing's response is to have to flee outside where he can Be Alone and mentally and emotionally curl up to protect all the tenderest and most vulnerable places. Also to tootle his xiao throughout the night outside his crush’s window like the worst emo kid ever. Wen Kexing, we are at the place for healing wounded animals. I love you to death, and I realize you’re terrified, but I really need you to get off the mental hamster wheel where this is concerned and THINK. Get there faster.

I thought this one would be shorter than the Ep 23 reax, but it’s not, really, is it? Final random thoughts:

Listen, are we ever going to actually deal with the fact that Wen Kexing is responsible for Zhang Chengling’s entire family and sect being massacred? Because that actually came up again in the ep, and we might want to get a jump on it.

Baby Zhou-zongzhu, who is struggling desperately to keep your sect together while bigger and stronger sects around you try to eat you up, I have a bitter angry grape two turns to your left who might be willing to commiserate with you.

Speaking of AU ideas – I’m sure someone has written this, but I am wary about rummaging too deep into the WoH fic yet, because although I have been spoiled for a few things, I don’t want to be completely spoiled. But has anyone tackled the idea of what it would look like if Wen Kexing had grown up in Four Seasons Manor? Would the guy who clawed his way up to be leader of Ghost Valley be able to give his shixiong enough support that they never have to go to Prince Jin, even if he didn’t have the experience of growing up in Ghost Valley? Would he have followed Zhou Zishu into Tian Chuang with the rest of Four Seasons Manor? And if he did, would Zhou Zishu have made his break for freedom before Wen Kexing died? If he didn't follow into Tian Chuang, what would their separation look like? What would their reunion look like? And what would WKX have been doing in the meantime? (Would there have been illicit meetings, or would ZZS completely cut him off to protect him?)
