Cold Side of the Bed | Eddie Brock/Venom x gn!reader
Anonymous asked: Eddie Brock: Hiya!! It's me again! May I please ask for a work using the following prompts for Eddie Brock X non-binary, male, or gn!Reader: "You promised that you would never leave me" Thank you 🖤🖤! 🐍anon
summary: the bed's cold, and Eddie isn't sure why.
tws: swearing, smoking, VERY mild angst
support your fanfic writers by reblogging what you read & enjoy
Eddie grumbled as he stretched across the bed, letting his hand fall on the other side, stirring in unpleasant surprise as he blinked the sleep from his eyes before he yawned and looked over; he rubbed his eyes, hardly able to believe or think why the bed might possibly be empty.
It wasn’t like you to be gone, you usually stayed the night and if you couldn’t, you always told Eddie beforehand; he was worried he or Venom had done something wrong, and as he chewed at the inside of his lip, slowly coming to his senses, he heard a commotion in the kitchen, followed by hushed and muttered words that were only just coherent.
“Helmut, I’m not leaving him. I do love him, it’s just… yeah, exactly. I can’t have Logan coming in and fucking all of this up - I love Eddie, and I love Venom the same. Logan would just fuck it all up - you know what he’s like.”
Eddie frowned, knowing that something was clearly troubling you as he made his way down to the kitchen, licking his lips; he paused at the doorway, watching you pace as you held your phone to your ear with one hand, and held a cigarette with the other.
He tilted his head to the side, waiting for the call to end before he dared to move closer, leaning against the counter as he folded his arms across his chest.
“You promised that you would never leave me… and your side of the bed is cold right now…”
You looked at him with sorrow, a thousand apologies in just one small look as you frowned and shook your head. “I’m sorry, baby, I just… things are happening that I don’t wanna happen.”
“You wanna talk?”
“It’s just Logan,” you explained, “he still thinks I’m gonna go back to him even though I said we were done, and that I love you and Venom. And only you and Venom - at least in that way… and I just… I’m worries he’s gonna find a way to fuck it up for us.”
Eddie nodded slowly, opening his arms so that you could crash against him, holding onto him tightly as you sighed heavily and allowed him to wrap you in his embrace; you didn’t even flinch when a few long, black and thick tendrils slotted themselves around you as well, only pressed yourself further into the embrace.
Neither could offer any advice or actual help, they had no idea what to do and they never had any experience with such a thing, but they both knew that they could give you someone to rely on, someone to hold and be held by until you calmed down a little bit. Enough to pull away with a soft sigh and a small smile.
“Thank you.”
Eddie nodded, gently kissing your forehead as he hummed softly from the back of his throat. “We got you. We always got you.”
“I know,” you murmured, resting your head against his as you frowned. “But I just ain’t quite sure what the fuck I’m meant to do… I don’t want Logan to fuck everything up, but I also don’t wanna lose either of you.”
“You won’t,” Eddie reassured gently, shaking his head slightly. “We’re stuck with you.”
You laughed softly, nodding against him as you sniffled. “Thank you.”
“C’mon,” he said softly, pulling away and taking your hand in his. “We’ll go back to bed - both sides are probably cold, now.”
You smiled, hesitating as you brought your phone out; Eddie watched with great concern for a moment, before he scoffed and rolled his eyes at the choice of song. Your song. You always said, no matter what happened, it was yours and Eddie’s song. ‘All of Me’, by Willie Nelson.
“C’mon,” you said softly, tugging at his hand gently, placing the phone on the counter as the music played quietly and gently. “Dance with me?”
“Okay,” he agreed with a smile and a curt nod, putting one hand on your shoulder, raising the other slightly like he was flexing his bicep.
Your hand on his hip as you took the lead and gently lead him around the kitchen. Eddie was reassured, everything was going to be just fine - he knew that as long as that Willie Nelson song played every now and then, as long as you asked him to dance with you just once while it played, then everything was going to be just fine.
It wouldn’t be perfect, there would be issues and hiccups along the way, but it would be fine in the end.
“Can't you see that I'm no good without you? Take my arms, I want to lose them, take my lips, I'll never use them, your goodbye left me with eyes that cry and I know that I am no good without you, you took the part that once was my heart, so why not take all of me?”
Dancing with Eddie, you could feel the stress and the worry about Logan slowly start to melt and fade away, your muscles losing their tension the longer you kept moving around the kitchen to the slow and steady song, the careful and easy beat; you couldn’t help it, pulling him in close so that he could rest his head on your shoulder, smiling to yourself when you felt him gently kiss your neck.
You dared to close your eyes for a moment, staying like that for a while until the song faded out and he pulled away, stealing a quick kiss.
“Bedtime?”
You nodded, stealing another kiss. “I’d say it’s about time, yeah.”
Eddie smiled, daring to pull away completely but still refusing to let go of your hand as he lead you back to bed; he let you get on your side first before he dared to join, snuggling into your side more than happily as he hummed softly under his breath and, before he even thought of closing his eyes, made sure to gently kiss your neck just one last time.

hello! hope ure having a nice day <3 how about headcannons about eddie x reader having their 1st relationship fight? like, how would they handle it, what would the fight be about, etc!
oooh lemme tell u i had so many scenarios in mind (i might use them for future reference hmm) but i had to calm down and choose one 😭 this is fem!reader and a bit longer for a headcanon but i had a fun time writing it. p.s i put a sneaky kinda vague normal people reference in there ;) thank you for sending this in and i hope you’re having an amazing day <3
eddie’s passionate
about d&d, his band, and you
you who brightens up his day and makes him feel like everything is right in the world
your relationship is relatively new, smooth sailing for the first three months
but you’ve been feeling down lately, not because of eddie at first but because your house has been lonely and you’ve been having thoughts that life is moving around you while you stay stagnant
growing pains really
you didn’t want to be clingy but right now all that can relieve the hurt is your boyfriend
who is nowhere to be found
nowhere to be found on the day he promised you’ll have your rescheduled date
you’ve been looking forward to this day, even having a pep in your step as you get all dolled up
but it’s been a half hour and you feel the tears prickling
you’ve called his house phone thrice, in five minute intervals, but no one picks up
so you sleep it off on your couch, thinking he’s probably taking a nap or showering, not wanting to nurture the hurt you feel
he probably has a good excuse
but two hours later you wake up with the familiar ache still in your chest and all you need is eddie
he isn’t there with flowers and an apology like you dreamed
you called again. still no answer.
so in your new dress and replacing your kitten heels with beat-up converse you begrudgingly walk the dark streets of hawkins to get a tub of ice cream from bradley’s
you had the tub in your hands, the open freezer making you numb and the fluorescent lights nearly blinding your watery eyes
the tears finally fall when eddie walks in with dustin henderson, mike wheeler, and another girl
to be fair it was robin buckley who you liked and got along with but right now the sound of her laughter along with eddie’s echoing in the small store made you want to puke
you had to get out of there
but just as luck would have it, eddie’s eyes meet yours and he grins like nothing was wrong
it breaks your heart even more
the smile on his face falls once he sees your tear-stricken face
he was a blur in your vision and you were surprised that you caught the moment eddie realized what he did wrong
“shit”
the two kids and robin look at him in confusion then to you then back to him, wondering why the usual lovey-dovey couple were walking on eggshells
you cringe as your sneakers squeak against the tiles when you speed walk to the exit
eddie calls out your name and his heart drops even more when he sees your shoulders tense and you continue walking without looking back
he wasn’t going to let this night go without making up to his girl because he knows your tears are because of him. he hates it.
the sight of you walking alone in the dark road heading towards your house fills him with dread
he catches up with you, a gentle ring-clad hand softly grabbing your forearm. he felt this gummy feeling in the back of his throat when you flinch and forcefully pull away
“i’m sorry—“
“whatever, eddie”
the venom in your voice was surface level, he hears the crack and hurt and it pains him even more because this is entirely his fault
“the campaign ran longer than we anticipated and—“
you roll your eyes at this. he was like a broken record, repeating what he said when he took a rain check on your date.
“you know, if you didn’t want to go out with me you could give a girl a warning instead of leaving her waiting for nothing twice.”
“of course i want to go out with you, baby—“
the name doesn’t fill your heart with happiness like it used to
“you forgot. you remember so many chords, so many stupid game rules, and all i ask is you remember a date on a calendar.” you scoff, “i’m sorry if i ask too much of you.”
the last sentence was meant to sound sarcastic but both of you know it’s not.
you were friends with eddie before going out and you know that he wasn’t good at remembering significant dates whether it was for a history class or with his real life relationships and you accepted that, even teased him about it a little
but god does it hurt to feel insignificant
“you’re not insignificant.”
you halt in your steps, not realizing you were thinking out loud.
“you mean the world to me and i’m a shithead who doesn’t deserve you but i can’t bear it if you’re gone from my life.”
your lip wobbles at his words and the dam finally breaks
you let out a choked sob, hugging yourself and eddie doesn’t miss a beat, he immediately brings you into his arms
which is all you were wanting all this time
his warm palms rubs your back, he kisses your temples when you don’t pull away. eddie feels relieved at this.
this is just a fight, not an ending, and he knows it was bound to happen
as if being able to read his mind, your adorable voice all muffled mumbles into his shoulder, “is this our first fight?”
“i think yeah” he answers solemnly. he hasn’t apologized properly yet.
he gently grabs your shoulders so you could look at him and a little voice in his head was telling him how stupid he was for making such a beautiful soul cry
“i’m really sorry, y/n. i put hellfire before you, my number one priority, and i shouldn’t have done that” he shakes his head, curls falling into his face and you stifle a giggle. “and i promise to never do it again. i promise.”
he links his pinky with yours, a significant thing between the two of you even before dating. most of the anger in your heart has dissipated now.
“and if you’d let me, i want to make it up with you. tonight. right now.”
he says this with a kiss to your forehead and you nearly melt
“my pretty girl in a new dress and im the asshole that made her cry. i’m never forgiving myself.”
“you noticed? the dress?” he nods with a soft smile, “it was all for you, eds.”
your words and doe eyes to match had him want to crawl on his knees to eternally ask for your forgiveness
“i’ll forgive you if you get the 1 liter cookie dough ice cream.”
“i’ll get two.”
you grin then before sniffling
eds?”
“hmm?” he asks, eyes attentively on you as you intertwine your hands together
“i’m sorry i called d&d stupid.”
“the game isn’t stupid, sweetheart, but the dungeon master of hellfire club is for making his beautiful, stunning, pretty, gorgeous girlfriend sad”
you roll your eyes before standing on your tiptoes to press a sweet kiss to eddie’s lips
the both of you agree to communicate more and understand that resolving fights is important, because you are the most important things to one another

Promise
(Arkham! Riddler x Fem!Reader)
● Ao3 ● X ● Retrospring ● Read on Ao3 ●
Tumblr media
It’s past midnight. Edward hasn’t been back for hours. You’re laying in bed, trying to get some sleep, but it’s useless. He’s been gone too long. And only a short while ago did you see the Bat-Signal flash into the sky. For most people, it would’ve been a symbol of hope. But for you, it represented everything you hated.
Knowing Edward was out there now, potentially being arrested and shipped back off to Arkham…you couldn’t bear it. Not again. Too many times you’d watched him be hauled off, taken under custody – and never gently, either, always treated so inhumanely. Bruised, bloodied, broken. It’s always you who has to pick up the pieces.
Finally forgoing sleep and with a frustrated heave, you threw the blankets off yourself and let them pile in a heap on the floor. You stood and ran a hand through your hair, eyes straying back to the window. The Bat-Signal was gone now, leaving behind empty darkness in its wake. You sighed, wandering into the kitchen, near the phone, wondering whether it’d be Arkham or the GCPD calling to tell you he’d been apprehended. Anxiety twisted in your gut, and you swallowed down a wave of nausea, putting your head in your hands.
This couldn’t be happening again. You didn’t know how much longer you could bear the waiting, the wondering if this would finally be the night the Dark Knight snapped and lost control, finally beat Edward to such a pulp that he ended up dead. The thought is horrifying, overtaking you like a wild storm, when you hear several loud bangs. You gasped and whipped around, hurrying over to the front door. Through the peep hole, you spotted Edward leaning against the wall.
“Edward!” you gasped, flinging the door open.
He practically stumbled into your arms, catching himself on the doorframe. His nose is busted, already mottled blue and yellow. Blood streamed down his nose and across his upper lip, into his mouth, staining his teeth red. There are several cuts to his forearms and the front of his green suit is ripped, his tie undone, glasses askew. He looks worse than last time. He doesn’t speak, he’s breathing too heavy for words. Sweat coated his brow and down into his chest. You gently grabbed him by the forearm and led him inside, slamming the door behind him.
“What did Batman do to you?” you asked. Even you’re shocked at the Dark Knight’s brutality.
Edward laughed, a low chuckle deep in his throat. “What he always does. Uses his fists instead of his mind,” he answered, sarcastic venom dripping in his tone.
You helped him into the apartment and over to the kitchen table, onto the seat. He hissed between his teeth, clutching his ribs. Blood dripped onto the floor, and you ran into the bathroom, quickly yanking out the first aid kit hiding under the sink. When you return, you found Edward still in his spot, head in his hands.
“He did it again,” he whispered, so low you barely heard him. “He bested me. He beat me. At my own game.” He laughed, high and broken. “Can you believe it?”
No, you couldn’t. For as much as a genius as Edward was, each time the Dark Knight managed to outsmart him, you could never understand why. Edward was right: he had to be cheating. He always had some tool or gadget or ally at the ready to come and save the day. And it was cheating; Batman shouldn’t be allowed to call in assistance whenever he felt like it.
Irritation flickered inside of you, but you were quiet as you filled a bowl with warm water and grabbed a rag. “You can’t keep doing this, Eddie,” you said.
He scoffed. “I’m not going to stop until Batman is dead.”
“And what happens if you die first?” you asked, the words tumbling out of your mouth. Hot and angry, dripping like acid. You spun on your heels to find him staring wide-eyed at you.
“Batman doesn’t kill,” he said quietly. “You know this. Everyone does.”
“I don’t care if Batman doesn’t kill,” you said, approaching him. You rested the bowl onto the table, dipping the rag into it. Slowly, you got on your knees, gently grabbing his wrist, and wiped the blood from his arm. “I care that he beats you. I care that you come stumbling home like this. I don’t…”
The words hang heavy on your tongue. I don’t know if I can do this anymore. They’re right there, in your grasp. Words you’ve thought of so many times before. How much longer can you keep going on like this? Keep tending to his wounds, driving him to clinics so his broken bones can be mended, bailing him out of jail? This has been your life for years, ever since you decided to follow him down this path into the criminal underworld…and at what cost?
“You don’t what?” he asked, an edge in his tone.
“It’s nothing,” you said quickly, turning your attention back to his wounds. You looked away from his burning stare, wiping the blood from his arms, placing gauze and bandages over his cuts. Some might need stitches and you sighed; again, you’d be the one to stich him up.
He sighed, licking the blood from his mouth. “Don’t you want to know how he did it? Don’t you want to know how he cheated?”
“How, Eddie?” you asked, though the truth was that you weren’t really listening, not as he rambled on about some newfangled gadget Batman suddenly pulled from his toolbelt. Instead, your mind wandered to…other things. Wondering if you were finally at your breaking point.
Because as much as you loved him, you couldn’t bear to see him walk down this path any longer.
He cleared his throat, and you looked up at him once more. Slowly, with blood-stained fingertips, he reached downward and grabbed your chin, forcing you to stare into his eyes. “What’s going through that little mind of yours?”
Ah, of course he noticed that you weren’t listening. He noticed everything. Edward was far too observant for you to get away with anything. But, you set the rag aside and finally stood up.
“It’s nothing,” you said again, because you couldn’t find the strength to say the words. “I’m just tired.”
He was quiet, studying you. But he leaned forward, placing his hands on your waist and pulled you into his lap. He buried his face into the crook of your neck, strong arms wrapping tightly around you.
He whispered your name. “I love you more than you’ll ever know,” he said, his breath in your ear, lips kissing against your skin. “Promise you’ll never leave.”
You squeezed your eyes shut, holding back the tears that threatened to spill. You weren’t an idiot – you knew what he was asking. And the pain in his voice, the utter desperation, was so raw and real. Foreign words out of his mouth, but they were enough. Perhaps he’d somehow found the bags tucked away in the back of the closet that you’d stashed away months ago, the last time he came home like this. Your back-up plan, just in case. Your heart felt like it was being squeezed by a fist. As much as you hated this – hated being put in this position – you loved him too much to walk away.
“I promise,” you whispered, lifting your head to kiss him. He tasted of blood and sweat, but you didn’t care. Because no matter what happened, no matter what state he came in next time Batman beat him, you had no intention of breaking your promise.

Rules: post the first lines of your last 10 fics posted to ao3. if you have less than 10 fics posted, post the first lines of all your fics.
Yoinked from @abc2411 because it looked fun!
The Look of You Eddie first started to notice the difference with his other.
(Whatever Happens) We've Got Us Jubulile first spotted it when they were setting up back on the boat to get to the nearest airport. It looked like a huge puddle on the deck - like a giant puddle of oil, all colors of red and blue, tangled up together in purple.
Where My Path Will Lead Peter dropped down to the ground as he watched Venom fly away, their words still ringing in his ears and he stood there and tried to wrap his head around them.  “-Flash will probably find you first-” It couldn’t be, though. Brock was fucking with him, just to be cruel; Peter was sure of it. One last stake in his back to remind him of his personal failure and just the latest in the list of people he’d loved and hadn’t been able to save.
Complicate Me, Elevate Me “You wanna switch?” Eddie scoffed at Flash’s reaction. “You don’t have to sound so incredulous about it.”
Add Without Subtraction “Hey, lover – we getting Chinese or pizza tonight?” Peter leaned back in his chair, looking at his wife upside-down with a tired smile. “It’s not a burrito kind of night? Because I’m pretty sure it’s a burrito kind of night.”
What Binds Us Together Wanda wasn’t certain what had brought her to the northern Australian city of Darwin. A feeling, perhaps.
Darker Than Death or Night “Brock, I need your help.” He shouldn’t have picked up the phone. “You have the wrong number,” he muttered, and pulled the cheap flip phone away to hang up.
Out Like a Light Harry Lyman, Chief of Operations at the Manhattan headquarters of Parker Industries, was sleeping with the boss, and everyone knew it.
Finding the Light Again It started with just the two of them, laying on a blanket on an abandoned island, miles from every care in the world, thoughts of long-deceased enemies behind them.
Learn to Let it Show As far as first dates had gone (well, the first date they were calling a date), all had gone well. Flash had seemed his normal, charismatic self, if not a little awkward, but it was kind of endearing, and if Harry was being honest, made him less nervous.
Bonus, it wasn't a new fic, but an update on an existing one, when I posted chapter 13 of Dust to Dust: Eddie was uncomfortable, but at least it was a base in the middle of nowhere and not an actual courthouse. While Price’s lawyer argued with Manuela over the matter of his – of their – presence, Eddie found Lee Price sitting on a bench outside the room where the hearing would take place.
Tagging whoever wants to do this, since I know a good bunch of you were probably tagged by one of our other mutuals LOL

Name: Alex
Pronouns: They/them
Pfp by: retronimya on Twitter!! 🥺 she drew it as fan art of my current Johnshi fic!!!
I’ve been on Tumblr longer than anyone should be proud to admit. This is unfortunately my “second” blog bc my other one got lost when I bought a new phone and had to change my number (this happened like six years ago) and I've never been able to access it since but maybe that's for the best lol
As for my fandom stuff:
I was never really in the fandom space growing up because my best friend at the time showed me what Tumblr was BUT not how to use it. Thankfully I figured it out xD So I watched Venom 2018 and Let there be Carnage both in 2021 and that was the beginning of not only my OBSESSION with Symbrock but also my undying crush on Tom Hardy.
I got into South Park after my brother moved in with me; now he betas all my fics (for better or worse lmao)
I’ve been watching RVB since I was 12 and it was only as of a year or so ago that I learned it had an extensive fandom that I missed 🙃🥲
And more recently my brother has also dragged me into the Mortal Kombat fandom! But I'm pretty happy to be here 🥰
I like sharing my music tastes with people so here are some playlists I made (more will probably be added):
My Eddie and Venom Chaotic Love playlist on Spotify
Symas playlist
Johnshi
All my works are here on Ao3:
Dedicated seires:
You and me won’t be alone no more
Eddie/ Venom Soulmate fics (no continuity) , some smut, lots of fluff and of course a big ol heap of ANGST
If I ever were to lose you, I’d surly lose myself
What would happen if Venom and Eddie were in the MUC after the Thanos snap? These fics seek to answer this question and satisfy my need for heartbreak.
Don’t mention it…
An RvB series I wrote basically starting from Season 1 and working to about Season 13. Multiple POVs and most of it is in 2nd person POV. TBH I love this series even though it’s messy as fuck.
Current work:
Silk between my fingers (on hiatus until I recover from my top surgery)
As mentioned my dumb brother got me into Mortal Kombat, despite my best efforts. So I’m writing a fic about one of the ships like. Tomas Vrbada/Syzoth.
They’re both dealing with loss of a family but in different ways and maybe, just maybe they’re letting their baggage get in the way of their feeling for eachother.
Stubborn hearted, blue (on hiatus until I recover from my top surgery)
Johnshi soulmate fic. As the title suggests, one of them (Kenshi) is a bit stubborn about it but at the end of the day, can you blame him?
I have Johnshi brain rot and this is my outlet for it! If you read I hope you enjoy reading it as much I’ve enjoyed writing it! ♥️
My most popular fics:
Your home is our home
MCU universe, No way Home, Fix it, fluff, and angst.
Tasted Oblivion before you knew your name
Cute short soulmate AU (idk if I also mentioned how much I love soulmate AUs), little bit of angst but also not? Title comes from the poem book Field Guide to the Haunted Forest by Jarod K. Anderson.
We only sleep at night
Cute little baby AU (sorta) about if Sleeper was born to Sony Venom and Eddie. I took a bit of inspiration from the original comic!

Get Up
Tumblr media
Set before series 4, insert of my own character
Description
Charlie is tired of covering for Eddie being late to school so she takes matters into her own hands...
Warnings
Implied nudity but otherwise just fluff
Word Count: 1497
Tumblr media
“Has anyone seen Eddie Munson this morning?” To say Mrs O’Donnell was pissed was an understatement.
Charlie glanced over her shoulder at the desk behind her where Eddie usually sat in vain, there’s no way he’d have arrived in the last 2 minutes since she checked without hearing him.
“Miss Jones?” Charlie jumped, snapping her head back to the front of the class guiltily, she always felt guilty on Eddie’s behalf even when she hadn’t done anything wrong herself.
“Well?” Mrs O’Donnell demanded, advancing on Charlie, and standing over her hands on hips.
Confused Charlie peered up at her “What?”
The normally mild-mannered teacher closed her eyes as if praying for patience “Have you seen Mr Munson this morning? You’re usually joined at the hip if anyone knows where he is it’ll be you”
Some of the jocks and Cheerleaders sniggered at the teacher’s words whispers of “Freaks flock together” rippling around the classroom, Charlie glaring at the nearest cheerleader with so much venom the girl actually shrank away from her in fear.
Turning back to the teacher Charlie thought quickly, what excuse hadn’t she used to cover for him this month, the last thing she wanted was to repeat one they’d be stuck in detention together if she made that mistake again “Ah no I haven’t… I think he said something about having a dentist appointment” she lied smoothly keeping her expression and tone as neutral as possible, gazing impassively up at their teacher.
Mrs O’Donnell’s mouth thinned into a grim line, but she didn’t immediately declare that she was lying so she must have chosen correctly “Miss Jones, please be so kind as to explain to Mr Munson that if he doesn’t come to class, Dentist appointment or not, he’s never going to pass my class and that means he’ll be seeing me next year for the 3rd time”
Charlie nodded “Yes Mrs O’Donnell” as the teacher retreated to her desk and begun the lesson, glancing behind her once more Charlie frowned, where the hell was he today.
The second the bell rang Charlie was already up out of her seat and racing to the payphone in the quad, she had literally minutes before she’d be late for 2nd period herself, but she had to try. The phone rang and rang while she tapped her foot anxiously muttering “Pick up, pick up, pick up” with increasing impatience.
“Hello” Eddie’s voice was deep and rasping like he’d just woken up, which explained his absence.
“Are you sick?” Charlie asked at once, dispensing with the pleasantries.
“Charlie?” Eddie muttered confused.
“I said are you sick?” Charlie insisted, her tone becoming more agitated.
“No” Eddie murmured, his voice muffled by a yawn.
Charlie cursed under her breath “Look at your watch idiot!”
There was silence for half a heartbeat and then a loud expletive as the phone was slammed down the line going dead.
With a sigh Charlie returned the receiver to the booth and trotted off to her next period. He couldn’t keep missing classes like this, but she knew full well he’d never go to bed earlier and he already had an alarm clock he ignored, clearly drastic measures were required.
***
The next morning Charlie hopped in her Jeep and headed over to the trailer park, she’d allowed plenty of time to get Eddie up and for them to get to school on time but what she hadn’t factored in was Eddie’s ability to sleep through anything.
She had been banging on his front door for 10 minutes shouting his name and earning glares from the neighbours, who’d come out of their trailers to investigate the ruckus at this ungodly hour of the morning, when Eddie’s Uncle arrived home slightly earlier than usual from his shift at the plant.
“Charlie?” He called up to her on the porch as he exited his truck “What you doing here so early?”
Charlie had been making such a racket he caught her by surprise not having heard his truck arrive, jumping she swung round sheepishly waving at the neighbours when she spotted them staring at her “Sorry Mr Munson”
Wayne chuckled waving his hand in a dismissive fashion towards his neighbours “Don’t worry bout them they’ll get over it, assume you’re here for Eddie?”
Charlie nodded “Yeah he was late again yesterday I’m trying to make sure that doesn’t happen again, but he won’t answer the door”
Arriving in front of her Wayne unlocked the door and ushered her inside “Boy sleeps so soundly you’d have thought he was dead”
Charlie nodded grinning evilly “That’s why I’m here”
Wayne frowned briefly he could see she was up to something, but he had a feeling it would be entertaining so he simply waved her towards his nephew’s room “Take your best shot sweetheart but don’t say I didn’t warn you”
With a wink Charlie turned and headed straight to the kitchen grabbing the nearest empty glass she filled it from the sink and headed down the corridor weapon in hand.
Bursting into Eddie’s room with a bang as the door hit the wall, Eddie stirred muttering but didn’t wake, only turning over so he was laying spreadeagled on his back one arm hanging off the edge hair spread out across his pillow like a halo.
Without hesitation Charlie marched across the room and dumped the entire contents of the glass on his face, leaping back as he leapt up arms flailing in shock, the bedclothes slithering from his grasp as he did so.
“What the fuck?” he shrieked, eyes wildly scanning the room finally settling on Charlie whose gleeful expression was morphing to shock as her eyes travelled south.
Belatedly Eddie remembered it had been a warm night, so he’d slept nude, snatching up the sheets in an attempt to cover his modestly he screamed at her “Charlie… get out… what the fuck!”
Unable to tear her eyes away from his now covered body Charlie only snapped her eyes up when he screamed, shrieking apologies as she dashed from the room arriving back in the living room with a horrified expression on her flaming face.
Wayne peered around the corner curiously just in time to see Eddie’s bare ass disappearing into the bathroom at the end of the corridor, glancing back to Charlie’s expression a snort of laughter burst from him.
“It’s not funny” Charlie protested weakly her face beetroot red, but Wayne just laughed louder, tears now running down his face as attempted to catch his breath.
“Tell Eddie I’ll be waiting in my car” She muttered bolting from the trailer, Wayne’s laughter following her out of the door.
Minutes later Eddie appeared fully dressed taking in the sight of Wayne still laughing his ass off as he clutched at the kitchen counter and his chest.
“What is going on?” He asked confused his hair still damp from his sudden waking.
Wayne was barely able to speak so he pointed towards the door gasping “came to get you… make sure… you got… on time… school”
Eddie shook his head at his uncle “It wasn’t that funny man”
Wayne disagreed shaking his head rapidly “You didn’t see her… her face”
With a roll of his eyes Eddie grabbed his bag and jacket from the chair next to the door and headed out leaving his uncle to calm down.
Charlie had taken a moment to compose herself a cigarette dangling from her fingers as Eddie strolled down the steps towards her, resolved to pretend like that hadn’t just happened.
“So, you’re my ride today?” Eddie grinned at her nervously.
Charlie nodded dropping her used butt onto the floor and grinding it into the dirt with her foot stealing herself to look at him “Tired of covering your ass Munson” she added, immediately flushing at her poor choice of words as the sight of his very naked body flashed through her mind leaving her unable to meet his eyes.
They drove to school in a tense silence that was unheard of for them, both moving as if to say something several times before snapping their mouths shut, when they arrived in the car park neither exited the vehicle both just sitting in the same tense silence aware that it needed to be broken.
“I..” Charlie began as Eddie muttered “Look…”
They both laughed awkwardly, Eddie taking a deep breath and continuing “Look this doesn’t need to be a big deal, so you saw me naked it doesn’t need to be a thing we can just pretend like it didn’t happen”
Charlie raised a sceptical eyebrow smirking slightly “I dunno I think it might be imprinted on my brain”
Eddie frowned at her “There’s no need to act like it was the most horrific sight you’ve ever seen though” he muttered affronted.
Charlie laughed at his put-out expression; Eddie having jumped to the worst conclusion of course “Who said I thought it was horrific?” she contradicted quietly eyes on the hands clasped in her lap.
“What?” His mouth fell open as she lifted her head to look at him a small smile stretching her lips at his shocked expression, feeling sudden bold Charlie pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, slowly raking her eyes deliberately up and down his body “Oh” his only response.
Chuckling Charlie alighted from the Jeep as the embarassment broke replaced with a new tension that couldn’t be addressed right now. Reaching behind her seat to liberate her backpack she crooked her finger at her friend “Come on big boy let’s get you to first period”
“Well, this is new” Eddie muttered as he scrambled from the jeep and bolted after her.

Eddie plucks a French fry from the oversized sleeve and plunges it into his equally oversized chocolate mocha shake, chuckling as his gaze sweeps from Beth to the view they have of the Bay. A date? In broad daylight? Given their respective night lives, it's maybe the least crazy thing of all. The bench they share is far larger than they actually need; he's already seen her glancing toward his lap a couple of times and imagines she's probably gauging how much it would matter if she just poured herself into it.
All she really has to do is ask. And even then... she doesn't really have to. He knows he'd welcome her there with a smile no less broad than the one he wears now.
"All right, so, yeah, Mrs. Chen doesn't, like, try to sic me on bad guys or anythin' like that, but ever since that day? She definitely gets that look in her eye like... 'I could just call Eddie, They'd probably take care'uh this idiot.' Dunno what to make'uh that, 'cause she's never done it, actually I never gave her my number, but somehow I feel like she's got me on speed-dial."
He chuckles again, then looks back to Beth. God, she looks just perfect with that sprinkle-covered ice cream cone in hand and her heart in her eyes. "Okay, so, your turn. An' I wanna really know. What was it about Us... not me, not Him, but Us... that really caught you? Like, when you saw Us for the first time... an' when you see Us now? What..." He stops and chuckles again. "Feels like a dumb question. But, what do We make you feel like?"

He teases her sometimes, when she chooses to take a mental health day and tells him, with certain seriousness, that she's 'too rich f' work today'. Few and far between as they are ~she and Eddie have an inborn work ethic that makes it hard to justify being selfish~ this is the claim she made when one little wrist snaked out from beneath the covers and retrieved her phone. She texted her DON and her clinic in record time, then not caring what happened to the device, she'd moulded herself to his back. Nuzzled the channel of his spine, breathed him in. Muttered the phrase and as her hand slid around his hip with a mind of its own, she determined that he too had to call out. And here they are, looking out over the Bay, her Mother's currents strong today. The waves whisper softly and maybe the weather is too cool for ice-cream. She justifies braving the chill because she knows Eddie runs hot, hotter than normal and she guages the distance between them, wondering what it would take to breach the space. To pour herself into his lap and maybe squish herself inside of his hoodie so that she can steal some of that comforting warmth. She has enough manners waiting until he ~and through him, Beloved~ has a chance to finish eating. In the meanwhile, she listens with abject adoration written in her features and eyes swimming with all those feelings she never really talks about out loud, as he talks about his experiences with Mrs Chen, though for the life of her, she can't remember what the question was that she initially asked. Occasionally she licks at the melting ice-cream from her waffle-cone, a scoop of haupia flavoured with rainbow sprinkles ~she still thinks it weird that he sometimes calls them Jimmies, the way Andy used to, and she'd once teased that she has a more formal relationship, and they prefer her to call them James. After that, they became sprinkles again~ and while the gesture is sensual, it isn't intentional. That look of utter adoration freezes on her lips when she watches the question form on his lips and in a moment of rare and pure trust, she blinks fully. Even in sleep her eyes rarely close to the full extent, and she's always given the impression that she is missing a nictitating membrane. The blush that makes strides towards her cheeks starts somewhere around the neckline of her sundress. "I...uhm." Eddie is too familiar with that false start but is kind enough to know better than throw a flag on the play. She is far too sensitive to take it well especially when it comes to navigating the complex feelings she harbours, the ones as deep or deeper as her beloved sea and nearly as primordial. Eddie knows it took some time for her to connect with him, days of simply sitting beside him in silence, then a trickle of words. She was never afraid of how massively larger he is than her. She's never been afraid of him hurting her ~reasons that wouldn't become clear until the night they shared knowledge of his Klyntar and her ancestry and mana~ and when it comes to the melding of man and alien, their version of Standing Jaws, it's exactly her ancestry that touches everything. She'd never been afraid of Beloved, either. If anything He brought out the desire to nurture and protect Him for the rare and beautiful Creature He is. But together? She lets out a shiver of breath. "Clearly, by da time you told me about Him, I'd already fallen for you. An' in all of my life, I've nevah seen someone as beautiful as He is, all on His own. You, Beloved, are... da epitome of One who Became Two, t' me. I t'ink I was a little in awe of you, of Him. Lil bit like bein' kahuna an' seein' a miracle unfold before ya eyes." That might sound silly, considering her mana allows her to alter reality at whim according to the spheres she's talented in but it does not make her words untrue. "Dere is a poverty of words in da ones I know to truly describe you bo'd when ya Venom. It goes beyond desire or lust. It expands into somet'ing...holy f' me dat I feel profane in knowin' d'ough dat ya bo'd make my knees weak an' set my blood on fire. Makes me...makes me t'ink mebbe Grandmaddah intended dis ~two  of ya~ f' me. Make me feel... hanau Po'ele i ka po he wahine, first woman. Look wi' new created eyes on my intended mate." There's a dangerous confession in those words, more than just the L word, if he knew how to read between her lines, or if They could feel the echoing ache inside of her right now.  The desire for the ice cream in hand wanes to nothingness and she switches hands holding it to take up the recyclable cup that her water had come in. She drains the remains dry, then lifts the lid, to fit her cone inside. Maybe she'll finish it later. She sets the cup down at her feet, then draws her legs up onto the bench, leaning toward Eddie to a slight degree. That flush of her skin deepens and takes on a shade of not-quite-fear, but something similar. What she chooses to tell Them borders on blasphemous, a voluntary revealing of secrets long held by her kin. "Not only do you both resemble to Haole depictions of Kōjin, as dey call my Samebito family, but in Venom, I see so many of our sacred laws. You're respectful to membahs of ya tribe, an' dose who know you as deir Let'al Protector honour Ya in return. You care for da people most turn away from; ones dat struggle, ones dat have no kine t' give in return, ones who would be used, abused, discarded by almost anyone. You see dishonour as a mark of lower beings, an' ya even fight fair wi' ya mortal enemy; I know, you have bo'd share wi' me stories of you an' Spidah-Man. An' every day ya learn an' grow. You help protect da territory granted by Grandmaddah, wheddah ya know it or not. Five of da six rules right dere. I was never once afraid of You, even with Your teeth deep in my flesh and bone. "But even wi' out all of dat, dere is no one I trust more, an' I would like t' t'ink dat if da kine was different between us, if You'd have chosen someone else, dat we would still find some way to be part of each oddah lives." There it is, that little bit of doubt in her voice. The very fear that lives inside her that she will never, no matter how hard she tries, be good enough. The damage that began in her infancy at the hands of her father, reinforced by others who had abandoned her whether willing or not. It lives just as clearly in her eyes and trembles in her voice as her earlier affections. But before Eddie or Beloved can make some sort of gesture or comment to set her at ease, she surges forward. The way her knees edge around his hips and the way her arms wend around his shoulders are a perfect mimic of the night she and Eddie chased their first foray into passion, the same night that he introduced her to Beloved. But rather than chasing sharp kisses around the thickness of his neck, or along his shoulders, she tucks her head down so her forehead rests against Their steady heartbeat. "What was true first time I saw ya, is true now, an' will be as long as dere is brea'd in me. I belong t' ya bo'd. Jus' as you bo'd belong t' me."

Eddie Brock - This is killing me
Tumblr media
Warning : venom wants to eat people.
Genre : fluff
Synopsis : "you have to go to work but it's too early, you try to find good reasons to get up, or to go back to sleep" - full self insert.
Reader : gender neutral (you/yours)
Tumblr media
You opened your eyes and immediately frowned, rapidly grabbing your phone under the pillow by your side and stopping the alarm. You huffed and turned down the brightness of the screen, squinting as you tried to read the time.
You fucking hated this.
You sighed another time, mind already racing to find any good reasons to not go back to sleep as you turned to face your boyfriend, snoring quietly.
Asshole.
You had 30 minutes to get up, prepare yourself and leave. It always had been difficult to wake up this early, but with how warm and comfortable Eddie was cuddled up against you, it made the whole thing so much harder.
You groaned, trying to motivate yourself by thinking you would maybe get to use the machines that function properly and go fast. "But the probabilities are so low with the past few days" you thought back.
You heard a loud exhale, followed by a groggy “Morning shift ?”. You hummed and quickly admitted you didn’t want to go. This time it was Venom who reacted, confidently proposing to eat the head of your boss if you didn’t wanna quit, as if this time Eddie or you would let him.
“We’re eating no one-” Eddie started, looking at his symbiote before focusing back on you “and your shifts are so ridiculous.” he said as he leaned back against you. As long as you weren’t trying to get out of bed, there was nothing to stop him from cuddling you. And Venom felt the same way despite the lack of brain eating.
While Eddie wrapped his arms around your chest to rest his head against your back, Venom’s head went under your chin, often nudging you until you moved your fingers to gently caress his cheek.
You stay silent for a few seconds, your boyfriends relaxing against you, slowly falling back asleep.
“You're aware you’re not helping at all, both of you." you say only for Eddie to just hum unbothered and for Venom to answer with a "You're welcome !".
Sighing and stretching, you looked at the time and wondered if it would really be a bad idea to skip a day. Would it cause trouble to your team or would they be enough to get things done without you. What if everything is so hectic you end up regretting going.
Your thinking comes to a halt when you feel Eddie moving, believing he's moving away to let you go.
Except he's not. Pressing his lips against your jaw and neck multiple times, lazyly kissing you. Smiling, you reciprocate his affection.
Fuck.
He knows you want your workplace to not renew your contract. Doing just the minimum and even less, just enough for them to not see you as a precious tool anymore and let you go. You've been trying to do that for three month, but each time you felt challenged enough to go faster, to do better, learning more to not rely on your team leader.
Even the newly formed couple that wanted to leave could not stand a slow day. You've told Eddie about it, and the more he saw your schedule and shitty "arrangements" the less he tried to motivate you to work there.
That's what he was doing, cuddling you and kissing you sweetly, giving you an opening to not go. To be a "bad" employee and be seen as replaceable.
Peppering kisses from your shoulder to the top of your head as one of his hands was on your cheek, his thumb gently caressing your skin. Even Venom was hard at work, forming strong arms to completely trap you between them, sandwiching you between their bodies.
Large hands trying to massage your muscles, often stopping to headbutt you like a cat. His long and rough tongue licking the side of your face, putting drool on you and Eddie's hand as well.
They were not just trying to get you to stay, they were also showering you with all their sincere love. As much as they wanted to go back to sleep, they could not cuddle without being a little bit clingy about it.
Both stopped when you jolted up, face hot and eyes blown wide. "I think I'm dying." Eddie looks at you in confusion, slightly startled until he hears Venom laugh proudly.
"Ah-ah ! We're making you feel things ! He loves us, Eddie ! We love you too, [Name]." the symbiote says, making your human boyfriend snort as he pulls you back against them.
"You do ?" he asks with a smile, fully aware of the answer, his eyes never leaving yours as his lips land back on your skin, making a trail of kisses.
Venom's right.
You knew it but you never really paid attention to it. The way you felt putty between their hands, how your heart felt like it was melting, your brain fuzzy and blurry. The satisfaction of kissing them and holding them close making you stupidly happy. Wanting to talk and laugh more with them, to share their smiles.
You love them.
…
Maybe you could make up some excuses on why you didn't go today. A cold is so easily caught in this bad weather and cold work environment.

A/N: So some of these are a bit nsfw, if you're not 18+ do not interact with this, please. I really just wrote these on a whim then it got long 🤡 I do not have a beta reader, nor have I proofread this, or done any research beyond watching the film, so please either point out any errors in my asks or just ignore it 😌 I hope you enjoy, begins after the cut✌
Venom does not have a single fine motor skill or brain cell, so Eddie's apartment looks like it has been child proofed (locks on the knife drawer, that little like toilet clamp thingy, stuff is like blu tacked down)
Venom discovered snakes once while watching TV once, so when they're bored they'll come out of Eddie looking like a little snake and do snake things (drink with the flicky tongue, slither, weave themselves around things, which typically end up being Eddie's limbs)
Venom doesn't quite have enough goo to make a full body version of themselves without Eddie in them, so whenever they do, they're much closer to Eddie's size, they're much shorter and skinnier, but still an inch or two taller and broader than their host
Venom has begun to sleep, and when they remain out during sleep, they drool
Venom licks Eddie to get his attention when he's working, it's the only thing that gets a reaction
Venom has acted as Eddie's motorbike helmet, underwear and socks, separately, due to Eddie not doing washing and losing stuff
Eddie has picked a lock by asking Venom to make themselves very thin and pointy, Eddie already knew how to pick locks, but just forgot his kit
Venom adores using social media and their favourite is reddit, if Eddie isn't using either his phone or his laptop Venom will start using it
Venom gets drunk when Eddie gets drunk
Venom's chocolate addiction has led to Eddie being forced into a sex shop to purchase A) mini dick shaped chocolates B) chocolate body paint C) a dildo made out of solid chocolate (the cashier didn't say anything but did give strange looks to the tired man in mismatched lounge wear and sliders that looked like cod, who seemed to be muttering animatedly at nothing while he was searching the shop)
Venom has never heard of nutrition in their life and Eddie was almost admitted into hospital with scurvy because Venom kept complaining that vegetables tasted bad
Venom's favourite film is Alien and has re-enacted the alien-bursting-out-of-the-chest scene (minus the actual injury, they just concentrated a bunch of goo on Eddie's chest and "burst" out, with a little face on the end)
Venom's favourite radio station is the jazz station and will get moody if/when Eddie turns it onto the news
Eddie showered with swimming trunks on for the first couple of weeks while he was still not entirely comfortable with the concept of an alien symbiote seeing him naked
Eddie had 1 (one) orgasm in the first 6 months that he had venom, and it was a wet dream, he was so viscerally uncomfortable with the idea of jerking off in front of Venom and he wasn't really looking for a partner (out of concern for their wellbeing)
Venom discovered what porn was through twitter, one of Eddie's mutuals had retweeted a bunch of it (they claimed they'd been hacked but everybody suspected it was a case of 'wrong account'), some time later Venom asked Eddie about it, leading to Eddie's first voluntary orgasm in a long time
Eddie has a subscription to a hentai site because Venom enjoys the tentacle videos
Eddie has redecorated his bedroom 5 times now because Venom is indecisive about what their favourite colour is
(Only with Eddie's direct supervision) Venom rather likes baking
Venom loves the brand Lush, and loves their bath bombs specifically
Venom also loves baths and whenever Eddie has one (once a fortnight, at Venom's request) they spread out under the water like a network of blood vessels
Venom had described what Eddie's organs look like to him, and has replicated them in a little goo torso when he got more curious
Venom purrs like a cat when Eddie pets their head, they'll also curl up in a ball on his stomach, just like a cat
Venom absolutely melts when Eddie calls them a pet name (they still won't tolerate "parasite" though)
A/N: Might release more of these in future if I can actually think of any, I'm sure the new film will spark some inspiration (the trailer already has)

Movie night with the young X-men
Kurt x Reader(all ready in a relationship)
Warnings:none
Summary: a little drabble about you and the other younger X-men attempting to continue to introduce Kurt to all the fun he missed while in the circus. Tonight you introduce him to the wonders of movie night
Sorry for mistakes it's not proofread and written in my phone
Story under the cut
Tumblr media
Everyone could agree that reacquainting Kurt with all of the glories he had missed was fantastic. You, Peter, Jubilee, Storm, Jean and Scott all enjoyed getting to relive activities from childhood you missed or also never got to enjoy. Your favorite part was watching the joy on Kurt's face at the ability to run around and enjoy himself, enjoy the freedom from training and from his past, from taking him out to play laser tag to go go kart racing to introducing him to the wonders and possibilities of the mall food court, everyone enjoyed the new favorite way to unwind after a stressful day or week.
Tonight's activity of choice of choice was a movie night heavily advocated for by Jean who was tired of Scott complaining about how he lost at go kart racing and how it shouldn't be against the rules to use his own lasers at laser tag.
In theory but had been a good idea until the problem of picking the movie arose, it might just have been the hardest feat you have ever had to face. Everyone had filled into the screening room in Xavier's mansion and everyone was advocating for a different genre. Kurt sat there amazed by the different genres being named with no idea of what movies he would even want to watch. You sat next to him trying to think of a movie everyone could enjoy and shooting down movies being named that you new would be to scary or wouldn't hold Kurt's interests. Finally Peter and Scott said they would compromise with Venom, you Jean, Jubilee and Storm also agreed that it wasn't to scary, had a slight romance, was funny and all around a good movie. While Jean was putting it on you grabbed one of Kurt's fuzzier blankets he had brought and threw it around the two of you as you pulled him close as possible and the two of you snuggled together. Just as you got comfortable you jumped three feet in the air when Peter screamed. Everyone looked over to him as his face held a look of horror.
"The snacks!" And with that he sped off leaving you all chuckling and Scott muttering to Jean about how they almost forgot the most important part of movie night. Jean had the movie ready and about 10 seconds later Peter ran back and forth placing down three bowels of pop corn, a grocery bag filled with multiple boxes of assorted candies, cans of soda and water and of course another few bags filled with boxes of Twinkies. Everyone was settled into their respective places on the couches and chairs in the room and the movie started.
During the movie Kurt had a few jump scares when he witnessed venom's violence but for most of the movie he stayed snuggled into your side chuckling at Venom and Eddie's antics.
By the time the movie ended the room was a mess with boxes and wrappers, cans and kernels, and more promenentley half asleep mutants on the downhill side of a sugar rush. As the end credits played everyone heaved themselves up to grab their respective trash and stumble back to their dorms. Once all of yours and Kurt's trash was taken care of he *Bamfed* you two back to his room and straight into his bed.
He wound his tail around you and pulled you close into his arms as he pulled his comforter up around you."Did you enjoy the movie?" You asked with a yawn.
"Mhm" he mumbled, "but I enjoyed being with our friends more, I enjoyed being with you the most" he looked down his cheeks tinging purple.
"I love you" you grinned softly pecking him on the lips.
"I love you too (y/n)"
"Goodnight Kurt" you mumbled Kurt's warmth and the pull of sleep making it hard to remain awake.
"Good night liebe" he whispered back.

5. Research
Tumblr media
The next day was a blur.  So was the day after.  I couldn't focus on my work, I certainly couldn't focus on the files that I was supposed to be analyzing, and I couldn't even get focused enough to go out at night again, although that is suddenly ALL that I want to do every waking minute of every goddamned day, now that I know what I think I know.
The following day, I had pulled up all the files I did some digging at work, which I probably should not have done.  But I started by searching for Natalie Rushman and came up empty – except – I frowned as I glanced through newspaper clippings about what happened at Stark Expo in 2010.  One name kept coming up over and over again which didn't make any sense – Natasha Romanoff.  Of course, I knew who Natasha Romanoff was.  The Black Widow was infamous – a SHIELD trade secret for the dirtiest undercover missions possible.  She was an ex-assassin from Eastern Europe somewhere, and she was an Avenger.  Unsurprisingly, much of her file was classified, but...I stared at the picture that popped up when I clicked the link.  That's just...not possible.  How in the holy fuck balls was Natalie Rushman related to Natasha Romanoff, because the two of them together looked like twins.  I sighed.
They weren't twins.  They were the same people.  Natalie had lied to me, well, forever.  She was working with Tony – had to be – that was the only explanation for why she was in California, why she was with Tony, and why she apparently had a hand in taking down the idiot that had tried to hijack his suits.  Now I had something else to worry about.  I had to worry about her.  She was relentless – when she wanted something, she went after it.  I replayed the events of the previous night on loop.  Had she recognized my voice?  She was far smarter than I really cared to admit, and I had to acknowledge that it was at least possible.
I went straight home to my apartment that night, not giving AV the chance to run free.  We had never settled on a nickname for my...roommate...so AV was the best I would come up with that it wouldn't immediately hate.  I stared at my phone, thumbing my brother's speed dial number before deciding against it.  I didn't need to hear a lecture right now.  I closed my eyes and thought back to my hospital stay after my accident...
Five years earlier:
Eddie didn't leave my side for days.  Dr. Lewis required me to stay at least 5 days in the hospital under his 'special care' given the problems that we encountered during symbiosis.  By problems, of course, I meant the fact that somehow, Venom had split into two separate symbiotes, and when Venom returned to my brother, the other, white creature, stayed with me.  Eddie had failed to mention that possibility – or any of the other warnings that he probably should have divulged before we began the symbiosis process, and now we were doing our best to mop up the consequences.  Our parents always told us that choices and actions had consequences, and Eddie and I both ignored them regularly.  Until we couldn't.  Like now.  I glanced over to find my brother sleeping in the chair beside my bed, and I smacked him hard in the arm.
"Wha...I'm up, I promise..." Eddie glanced around confused.
"Eddie, we need to talk."  I glared at him.  He rolled his eyes, but nodded, agreeing to the conversation.
"Yeah...yeah, I think we do."  He agreed.  Generous of him, wasn't it?  I sighed and closed my eyes, resting my head back on the pillow.
"So...you and Venom..."  Eddie rubbed his face with his hands.  This was never a good sign.
"We kind of made an arrangement."  I scowled at him.
"An arrangement?"  Eddie nodded weakly.
"He totally only eats bad people n..."
"EATS?"
HUNGRY
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!?!?!?!" I shrieked and almost jumped out of the bed, except I was still connected and that would have been very, very bad.  Eddie DID jump out of his chair, not tied down to it by tubes and wires like I was, and he stood so fast that the chair went flying behind him and he flailed his arms around to keep from falling over.
"Jesus, Parker, what?!"
"I heard something...loud...in my head."  Eddie smirked and collected his chair, sitting in it again.
"Oh, yeah that happens."  I blinked at him.  This just kept getting better and better.  I took a deep breath, trying to figure out where to start.
"Okay.  So."  Eddie glanced at me expectantly.
"Your...parasite...is now two parasites.  You got yours back, and I got my own."
We are not a parasite.
"Okay, not a parasite."  Eddie frowned at me as I continued to maintain two distinct conversations at once.  It made sense to me, and he could just learn to keep up.
"But how did you..."  I sighed and shook my head.
"I'm pretty sure that it had to do with the exposure."  Eddie stood, leaning down over my bed, getting right in my face.  I smirked as I saw white tentacles gently appear and move him to a better distance – maybe this could be useful after all.
"What exposure, kid?"  I chuckled and glanced over towards my big brother, who was now in full protection mode.  A little late for that one, bro.
"Years ago, with shield.  I was exposed to a terrigin crystal but nothing happened."
"A crystal?  Like the stuff that creates inhumans?"  I nodded.
"It was in the lab, but it exploded.  Everyone thought I was going to croak, but...nothing happened."
"So, you think that is what allowed you to achieve symbiosis?" He asked.  I shrugged.
"Beats me, but I know that the antibiotics they gave me after exposure sure did a number on my immune system."  Eddie was uncharacteristically quiet for a moment as he thought about what I was saying.
Eddie frowned and cocked his head to the side, almost like he was listening to something.
"Venom says that your antibodies were caustic to him...which is what triggered the split."  I frowned.  Did that mean that this thing was going to stick around forever?
Yes.
Great.
Present Day:
I clicked on the news just in time to see that the Avengers were in Eastern Europe.  Sokovia.  The city was...flying?  I rolled my eyes, thanking my lucky stars that I wasn't that good of an agent.  Yet.  Or that at least I hadn't gotten on the bad side of anyone's radar.  Right?

PARTY FAVOURS I CHAPTER 37
💖 first time reader click here 💖
Tumblr media
Five more chapters to go, guys. This is coming to an end 😭 I enjoyed writing it so, so much! In this chapter we have fluff. Literally only fluff and snark, because my babies have suffered enough. And the remainder is gonna be the same. Because fuck pain.
Tumblr media
Coulson was mad. Outwardly, of course, he seemed as level-headed as ever, handing out orders and signing papers out left and right, but coming to sit within five feet of him seemed like the worst mistake I had recently made. His phone was ringing practically non-stop and he answered every call, sometimes speaking in different languages I didn't understand, sometimes in rapid-fire English that sounded like Morse code to me.
I'd never been sent to the principal's office but I imagine that's how it feels like. Finally, his shoulders sagged and the breath he took in left his lungs slowly, deflating his body into a tense ball of quiet fury.
"You and mister Brock ruined months worth of investigation and undercover work," The agent finally spoke. "But I can't even be mad at you properly. We've apprehended the main culprit, detained all of his followers except select few that Dr. Xavier took upon himself to handle," His words shocked me; not at all the scolding I was expecting. A deeper part of me was even afraid I'd be taken away and buried under so much red tape not even Tony's seemingly endless money and influence could have gotten me out. "I... Really don't know what more to say." Coulson folded his hands atop the desk, looking over me with a blank look.
"A thank you would be nice," I let my mouth run before the words even really registered in my brain, the cursed thing.
The agent chortled, "Perhaps, we really do owe you a solid one," Before standing up and walking over to the coffee machine in the far corner of his office. "Coffee?" He motioned to a pile of empty cups next to it. I nodded and he set to work. "The guys should be back in two hours, tops," He remarked off-handedly, watching me out of the corner of his eye. There was no way he had missed how my body relaxed into the uncomfortable office chair at the news. "Nobody is hurt except Rogers but I think he'd find how to hurt himself even on recon duty." The man laughed, bringing over two cups of dark, delicious, steamiy hot bean juice. Nhghhgg.
"Steve is a dumbass," I agreed amicably, blowing over the rim of the cup. The stone of coffee on it's own seemed to wake up my previously anxious, half-empty half-racing brain. The past twelve hours were full of urgency, the team being called in for assistance in mere minutes after my and Venom's return to the tower.
They barely had time to wipe their tears and shelf their worries before the suit-up call came, haste hugs and kisses being traded on their way to the quinjet. Coulson showed up not much later after that, a quinjet of his own and a stack of papers for Eddie to fill out, stern instructions for me to follow him and stay glued to his side at all times. I didn't need to ask: it was obvious there was a rat in SHIELD, again. Thankfully, the rat was discovered before they could come and try to increase their odds by doing something to me; I'd hid out in Coulson's office, crashing down into a strange, most likely Venom-induced sleep as footsteps raced past the door.
I'd woken up anxious and disoriented, the owner of the office pacing along the furthest wall and pointedly whispering into his cellphone. The rest was history.
"Your father called," The agent remarked, watching my reaction carefully. "Said to call him back whenever you can."
I was drained, beyond wrung out, and not just from my latest stunt as a parasitic symbiotic alien's host. The past couple of months were a nightmare, an anxiety-riddled, paranoia-spiced mess of a shit show. I was very much looking forward to breathing freely and enjoying my science without hiding my WIPs, enjoying my relationship (s) without fear of being abducted and sending my men into a panicked, destructive spiral.
My voice remained even as I carefully contemplated and spoke my next words. "He can go fuck himself. Him and that harpy of a woman," I sighed: disappointed in my parents, but not surprised. "I'm freshly out of fucks to give. I'm done."
Coulson, if he even was surprised, didn't show it. His expression remained neutral and supportive. "I understand you. There's enough basis for us to aid you in creating a new identity for you, if you'd like," He pushed a stack of papers towards me.
I chewed on my lip in contemplation. It would be handy, sure, I could be rid of the curse that became of my family name and my parents couldn't legally do anything at all to me; on the other side there was my name plastered on several inventions and projects I'd done over the years. In all my years, I was taught that my name is to be my business card.
The decision was obvious. "No, thank you," I looked at him, hoping to convey the sincerity. "I think I will be okay."
He smiled and went back to his paperwork, all but verbally dismissing me. As soon as I finished my coffee and washed the mug, the couch called to me once again and I curled up under the fleece blanket Coulson had thrown over me while I slept, alternating my attention between sneaking glances at his concentrated form and my cellphone and the few meager games it had. There was no signal and no wi-fi access on the Helicarrier. Security reasons, blah blah blah...
A knock sounded out, startling me out of my sluggish thoughts; one of Coulson's hands crawled down to one of the drawers on his right side where I assumed he had hidden a gun. "Come in," He called out, shooting me a pointed look. I sat up, alert.
"M'here to pick up - uh - a Baby," A tired but amused, familiar voice called out. Clint stepped into the room, still wearing his dirty and bloody uniform, and, as my eyes briefly scanned him, the archer appeared to be unhurt save for a few bruises here and there. His eyes landed on me immediately, visibly relieved.
"Waa," I deadpanned indignantly, raising my hands like a toddler would do when they wanted to be picked up. The only thing Clint was missing was a courier's ball cap.
"I assume the mission went smoothly?" Coulson asked, a soft grin and even softer eyes landing on our interaction.
Clint nodded affirmative, walking over and picking me up with ease, disregarding my shierk completely and stopping only when I poked him in the ear - closest appendage to me - in retaliation. His eyes were laughing and his tone was flat. "Caw caw, motherfucker," He announced to me flatly, waving goodbye to Coulson.
We passed more than a dozen agents giving us the biggest side-eye as I dangled over his shoulder, ass up in the air, fiddling with the numerous straps of his gear as Clint power-walked us to the Avengers quinjet. I'd even stuck out my tongue to some dude pointing a finger at us.
My family was already loaded into the vehicle, all in various stages of dirty, bloody and undressed. Coulson's words were true - only Steve sported a wide bandage over his shoulder, neck and head - one look at Bucky and I just knew the Captain would be regretting his stupidity in a few hours time. Even Stephen was there, looking unhurt but very annoyed and tired, as he hovered a few feet off the ground with Cloaky majestically swaying behind him.
"And what the fuck was that little performance for?" I asked once Clint deposited me in the very front row, between a dozing Bruce and a tinkering Tony.
"I had strict instructions from the Hulk," The archer grinned, pushing a few buttons on the dashboard of the vehicle. In seconds, we took off home.
"Oh, hi," Bruce must've heard his green counterpart being mentioned; his eyes cracked open just as I smiled at the scientist and reached over to brush his curly mop of hair out of his face. "M'yes, Hulk is demanding you do not set foot on the ground these days," Bruce was sleepy and warm, so soft when he kissed my hand, I felt my heart swell.
"Gonna spoil me rotten, you lot," I snorted, keeping the happy smile and the warm feeling as Stephen came back from the Astral world, opening his eyes and giving me a grin of his own.
"That's my job," Tony mumbled, still very occupied with a part of his suit. I turned around expecting a kiss; I had to stifle an ugly snort upon discovering one of the parts of his Iron Man suit got damaged and stuck, making a part of the chestplate render one of his arms temporarily immobile. Tony looked like a frustrated toddler building Legos.
"Someone get me a screwdriver and some pliers," I gently pried away the calloused fingers away from the jagged piece of metal, kissing Tony's cheek in the moments until Natasha handed me the required instruments. Tony was free, grimacing in discomfort as he stretched and rotated his arm, in little under ten minutes. "What happened to the nanosuit?" I asked, not remembering the last time I'd seen Tony in one of his older, clunkier creations.
"They had some sort of technopath mutant," He grumbled - I had discovered the source of his ire. "Turns out, Bruce snuck in my special anti-mutant suit I'd made ages ago. Nanosuit got destroyed in seconds and Hulk had to carry me back to the quinjet for a change of equipment," Despite his sour mood, Tony was visibly more relaxed than since the day I confessed I'd been drugged. "Brucie-bear, this is exactly why it remained a prototype."
"It's better to get stuck in a suit than to be a meat pancake on the sidewalk," Used to Tony's tantrums, Bruce merely blinked and continued eating the chocolate that he procured only God knew where.
I locked eyes with Stephen, both of us shaking our heads in almost identical, semi-fond semi-annoyed way. Ah, sweet sweet normalcy.
There were towers of pizza boxes as we arrived in the tower; a couple of agents got all but yeeted out by Tony, with little to no thank you as they had been the ones that arranged the food for us - still, I understood Tony's dislike of the super-secret organisation and merely paid the two for the pizza, politely waving goodbye as they side-eyed Tony with disdain.
Then, I had to tow both Clint and Thor as they attempted to begin eating, still wearing muddy bloody clothes - of course, I did not possess the physical strength required to handle two adult men, so I merely began a small lecture on parasites (Stephen gleefully joined in) and both of them scattered towards the showers like two spooked little first-graders.
I also used the brief moment of stagnation to hug Loki; these days he didn't freeze in surprise but rather warmly hugged me back, whispering something cheeky to me as I buried my face in his chest. Stephen was the one to cough extra-loudly to attempt to separate us - it was, once again, unanimously decided to have a family dinner and a cuddle pile straight after. Food coma had never sounded nicer.
"So, what'd Coulson say to you?" Clint asked curiously as we all settled in, freshly showered and those who needed it, re-bandaged. I was warm and toasty between Tony and Stephen, wearing the former's gym shorts and the latter's hoodie, Bruce's t-shirt underneath it. The scientist himself was drooling onto Tony's shoulder, somwhere between sleep and awareness, glasses askew.
"He basically thanked me and offered me a new identity," I shrugged, polishing off the last of my smoothie and handing the second bottle over to Loki. As usual, no food was wasted and I always had someone to finish my leftovers, especially since Bucky tended to think I could eat as much as him and kept trying to overfeed me like a foie gras goose.
"Congrats, you've been adopted," Natasha snorted from her place between Clint and Steve. Only the red of her hair was visible behind the man-bulk and the blankets.
"Uh," My response was, as always, deeply informative and astute.
"He likes to take in strays," Clint full-belly laughed. "Me at first, then Natasha. He's got a soft spot for Tony and Bucky but he won't admit it."
My eyebrows rose. "That's... That's my job?" I remembered the whole Venom/Eddie situation, our rogue wizard. Coulson was aiming for my place- the audacity! "He can't just do that!"
"And you can?" Stephen's finger booped my nose, making me huff and cuddle up to Tony, turning my butt towards the sorcerer to show him exactly what I thought about his observations. He only laughed harder. "Sounds like someone's a little jealous."
"Okay, boomer," I rolled my eyes. Stephen Strange, a supreme troll is what he is.
"But that's why you love me," He continued as others around us groaned and snorted, too used to us teasing each other about our age difference and my old man kink. Whatever, I got to bang my hot old men anyways.

Tattooed
[ao3] Eddie Brock/Venom 5.9k words
Eddie.
“Hmm.”
Tell me what this is.
Eddie shifts in bed and blinks himself awake with a groan. Venom is at his right hip, tendrils like small streams of water passing curiously over his skin. Eddie used to wear pajama pants and a t-shirt to bed each night, but his temperature runs hot with Venom inside him so he started wearing just a pair of gym shorts instead, and now he’s regretting it.
“Venom. I’ve told you this. Stop waking me up for stupid shit.”
The tendrils press insistently into Eddie’s skin, which tickles a little bit. You slept long enough.
“That’s not the—what are you even doing?” Eddie props himself up on his elbows and looks down at where Venom is pressing into the tattoo on his abdomen. “Oh. It’s a, uh—I got it after I proposed to Anne. It says ‘til I die AW,’ which, you know, in hindsight, is, uh…”
A long silence passes before Venom says, What do you mean you “got it”?
“What—what do you mean what do I mean? It’s a tattoo.”
Venom spreads out over his body, crawling itself up over the tattoos on his sides, chest, arms and back. Are these also called “tattoos”?
“Can’t you read my mind, man? You’ve been inside me for several weeks, you’ve gotta know what a goddamn tattoo is by now.”
That is not how it works. Explain to me what a tattoo is.
Eddie groans in frustration. He sits up on the side of the bed and grabs his phone from the nightstand, checking and deleting emails like he compulsively does each morning. He is going to lunch with Anne today, but other than that, his schedule is free.
Eddie.
“Look, I’ve actually been thinking about getting another one, so, uh, maybe I’ll make an appointment and then you can see—”
Anne’s skin is not like this. Do only some people wear tattoos as part of their bodies?
“Um, hmm. Well, yeah, only some people have them. But they’re permanent. Once you add them to your skin, they stay there.” Eddie stands up and stretches his back out before heading into the bathroom for a shower.
He can feel Venom still exploring his tattoos, the symbiote moving its liquidy strands in such a meticulous way like it’s tracing each tableau: the wolf on his left forearm, the numbers near his right clavicle, the corvid over his left pec, and so on until Eddie is so mesmerized by the feeling that he spends several minutes in the shower just standing completely still as cold water pours over him.
Venom nudges him out of his trance, merging itself with the muscles of Eddie’s legs to get him to move and sending hunger signals to his brain.
“Hey, no taking over without my permission, how many times do I have to tell you?” Eddie says, annoyed as he awkwardly jerks his legs in a fruitless attempt to regain control.
This is our body, Eddie.
“No. No, there’s my body and there’s your body, and whichever one of us is driving is the one in control.” Eddie stops and tries to work out what he means. “That’s me most of the time, in control.”
A tickle runs through Eddie’s whole body, which means that Venom is laughing. Even so, it cedes leg muscle control back to Eddie, allowing him to get dressed before going to the kitchen.
I keep you alive. If I left your body, you would die very quickly.
“Yeah, well, so would you, so I’m not sure what your point is.”
Venom pulls part of its body out of Eddie and floats its head directly in front of his face. The first few times it did this, Eddie felt terrified and found Venom repulsive. Now, he feels a begrudging fondness for it. He thinks it probably has to do with the kiss they shared in the woods, but in general he tries not to think too hard about that.
You do not know the things I do for you, Eddie, Venom says, slowly.
Eddie blinks. “OK. Uh, I don’t really—don’t give me more information than that, please.”
Venom just smiles with all its teeth in response, then it turns toward the fridge and coaxes Eddie into making a heinous breakfast.
Eddie tries to get some writing done before his lunch with Anne, but Venom is more active than usual as it continues its ministrations of his tattoos, so Eddie impulsively calls the artist he always goes to, Marie, and asks her if she can fit him in by the end of the week. She tells him he can come in later that afternoon if he wants, since she had a last-minute cancellation. Eddie has been going to her for years, so she has several of his designs ready and waiting.
Eddie meets Anne at an Indian restaurant across town, one of their favorite date-night joints when they were still together, and the only difference now is that they don’t sit on the same side of the booth anymore.
Anne greets Eddie with a hug and comments on how warm he feels.
“You say that every time,” Eddie replies with a small laugh as they break apart. He removes his leather jacket before taking a seat.
“Well, you’re just always feverishly warm. I don’t know how it doesn’t bother you,” she says as she sits across from him.
“I mean, it does bother me sometimes. I only take cold showers now. And I sleep mostly naked.”
Anne raises her eyebrows at him. “Mr. I-have-to-shower-and-change-into-PJs-immediately-after-sex sleeps naked now?”
He smiles at her. “Yeah, alright, I deserved that.”
A server comes by to take their drink order. Anne makes a face when Eddie orders water.
“You never drink water.”
Now he’s the one making a face. “That’s not true. I used to drink water, uh, sometimes.”
“So what else is he making you do besides drink water?”
Eddie shifts in the booth. “Nothing. He’s just, um, mostly just irritating.”
Venom rumbles and slithers uncomfortably inside Eddie, clearly angry with his assessment.
“He’s been asking me about my tattoos today. He definitely doesn’t understand what they are.”
Anne laughs. “Does that happen a lot, him not understanding something basic?”
The server returns with their drinks and asks if they are ready to order, and just as Eddie is about to say no, Anne orders for both of them.
Eddie pouts at her.
“What?” she asks after the server walks away. “We’ve been here a million times, I know what you like.”
She doesn’t know what we like.
“Yeah, uh, you know Vee’s appetite is a little different.” Eddie clears his throat. “Which means, um, my appetite’s a little different, too. It’s OK, I’ll just have to order more food. We eat a lot.”
“Are you sure you’re OK, Eddie?” She drops her voice to a whisper and leans across the table. “He’s not torturing you or anything, is he?”
Eddie imitates her, leaning across the table and narrowing his eyes as he says, “He’s inside me, Annie, so getting closer to me and whispering doesn’t mean he can’t hear you.”
Anne bats playfully at Eddie’s shoulder before leaning back again. “I’m just trying to make sure you’re safe, that’s all.”
Venom moves and twists its tendrils through Eddie’s body, coming closer to the surface of his skin before burrowing back down into Eddie’s muscles. It was an annoying sensation the first few times Venom did it, but now Eddie thinks of it like a cat repositioning on his lap—which, to be fair, was also annoying when Mr. Belvedere deemed Eddie worthy enough to sit on, but even so, thinking of Venom like a pet makes the alien seem like less of a nuisance.
“Yeah, Annie, I’m safe,” Eddie responds softly. “We’re still, uh, just trying to figure out living together. It’s annoying, sometimes, but we’re working on it.”
“Is ‘living together’ the right term for it, though? You’re just...together. It’s kind of a big commitment, if you think about it.”
Eddie laughs and scratches the back of his head. “Yeah, which is why I don’t really think about it. But, you know, I don’t really have that much of a choice. If he leaves, I die.”
Venom moves in a way that feels like it is tightening inside Eddie, like all of its strands are taut, which Eddie’s body responds to antagonistically: he relaxes.
“OK, so if you knew you wouldn’t die if he left, would you want him to leave?”
Venom simmers, angry.
“No,” Eddie answers honestly. “I mean, there are definitely things I would change, but…”
“You like the power.”
Eddie looks around, irrationally embarrassed that someone might overhear them. He nods shyly then takes a drink of water.
“Oh, Eddie, you’re so predictable.”
“What?”
“You don’t like having your own power, you just like taking it from other people. Or, in this case, an alien.”
He leans back in his chair and defensively crosses his arms over his chest, tucking his hands under his armpits. “What are you talking about?”
“Your career. And now this.” She shrugs. “I just hope you sort it all out with Venom, is all. You’re irritable, like you were the first couple weeks after you moved in with me. Remember that?”
Eddie rolls his eyes. “Yes, I remember because you won’t let me forget. This is different though. I’m not—um, I’m not in a relationship with Venom.”
“Aren’t you though?”
Yes.
Eddie swallows. “Not—it’s not—I can’t think of it that way, it’s too weird.”
“Yeah, probably. But it’s something you're gonna have to deal with eventually.”
“Yeah, I guess.”
Eddie changes the subject after that, asking Anne about her work and about Dan. When their food arrives, Eddie immediately orders another entree and an appetizer and tries not to feel embarrassed about it. He could actually eat way more than that, but he won’t in front of Anne. Venom complains in his head, insists their bodies are still hungry, swirls its strands frantically around Eddie’s midsection to make its point, but Eddie just sets his jaw and ignores it.
When Eddie tells Anne at the end of lunch that he has an appointment to get a tattoo, Anne just laughs and says, “Still the same old Eddie.” She pays for the meal, Eddie leaves a cash tip, and they walk out to his bike together.
Feeling relaxed and brave, Eddie gives Anne a kiss on the temple as they hug goodbye. She doesn’t acknowledge it.
On the drive over to the tattoo shop, Venom asks, How long will it take to win her back?
Eddie hates when Venom talks to him when he’s driving because although Venom can hear his voice no matter what volume he speaks, he can’t hear himself over the sound of the engine and the wind. “I told you, it’s not happening.”
But we like her.
“I know we like her, but she’s with Dan and you and I are, uh, kind of fucked up.”
I don’t understand.
Eddie sighs. “Anne’s right. Like it or not, you and I are together—a package deal, so the chances of me having any kind of human relationship with anyone is just out of the question.” Realizing how depressing that is, Eddie tacks on, "Right now."
But Anne likes us. I think she would like being with both of us.
Eddie doesn’t respond. Surprisingly, Venom doesn’t push the issue.
At the tattoo shop, Eddie is greeted by one of the artists, Solomon, with little more than a curt nod and a waiver slapped down on the counter, which Eddie signs without reading. He then takes a seat out front to wait for Marie.
Your pulse has quickened. You’re beginning to sweat.
“Yeah, well, that’s because the guy that just helped us is my ex, and it did not end well,” Eddie whispers through gritted teeth.
Oh, like Anne?
“Stop playing dumb, you know what an ex is.”
Eddie watches as Sol greets another client. Despite having dated nearly a decade ago when Eddie was only in San Francisco for a six-month temporary gig, Sol still acts like it was just yesterday that Eddie chickened out on their relationship and told him he had to get back to his “real life” in New York. Not his best choice of words.
Sol looks bigger every time Eddie comes to the shop. He is older than Eddie, has to be in his 50s by now, but he clearly still lifts as evidenced by the broad muscles of his back and the thickness of his tattooed biceps. His muscled chest tapers into a soft torso, his belly significantly more pronounced than when they dated. His beard looks thicker, too, a few fuzzy gray hairs mixed in with the black, and he is bald—has always been bald—and richly dark-skinned and six inches taller than Eddie.
You are still attracted to him.
Eddie clenches his fist against his thigh. “He’s still attractive.”
You are attracted to Anne, too. But Solomon looks very different from Anne.
“I don’t know if now is the best time for me to explain race and gender and sexuality to you.”
Anne is small, so I assumed you preferred someone smaller than you. But Solomon is—
Eddie ignores the rest of Venom’s sentence as Marie comes out of the back office and waves Eddie over to her workstation. Marie is rail thin and only ever wears baggy tank tops and baggy ripped jeans, and nearly every inch of visible skin is covered in colorful tattoos.
“Did you pierce more of your face since the last time I was here?” Eddie teases as he takes a seat.
She swivels toward him on her stool. She has piercings everywhere: eyebrows, nose, lip, tongue, all over her ears, and a barbell through her sternum. “I’m sure I have, since you haven’t been here in forever, buddy. I was wondering what the hell happened to you.”
“Yeah, uh, I’ve been going through some stuff, you know how it is.”
She pulls her long black hair up into a bun on top of her head then grabs a stack of drawings off a table as she says, “My aunt told me you ate a dude in her store.”
Venom vibrates through Eddie’s entire body.
“You know no matter how many times you tell me, I’m never gonna remember you’re Mrs. Chen’s niece.”
Marie holds out three drawings for Eddie to pick.
“Ah fuck, they’re gorgeous, Marie,” he says as he leans forward to get a better look. He points to the one in the middle, a partial skeleton of a rib cage and pelvis held together by nuts and bolts. “Let’s put that one on my left side.”
“You got it, bud.”
As Marie prepares everything, she says casually, “So you gonna tell me about the dude you ate, or?”
“Oh right, um, I have a parasite.”
Venom constricts inside Eddie, making the muscles in his arms and legs jump.
“It’s, like, an alien,” Eddie continues lamely.
Marie’s face doesn’t change. “Take your shirt off. So, can I see it? The alien? My aunt said it’s gnarly.”
Eddie pulls at the hem of his shirt and asks, “Do I have to take it all the way off?”
“Aww, poor little Eddie doesn’t wanna expose his cute body when his ex is right over there.”
I like her. I’m going to say hi to her.
“No, Vee, wait—”
It always feels like Eddie’s face is being sucked into a vacuum when Venom takes it over.
Hi, Marie. Eddie and I are Venom.
Marie blinks. “OK, so. I think I understand why you ate a guy.”
Venom sticks its tongue out then relinquishes control back to Eddie.
“Goddamn it, I hate when he does that shit,” Eddie says with a nervous laugh, looking around the shop to make sure nobody noticed anything.
“You, like, straight up have an alien inside you, bud,” Marie says. “But for real, take your shirt off.”
Eddie complies, then turns over to his side so Marie can get started. She presses her gloved fingers against his skin and asks exactly where he wants it, how big he wants it, then she cleans the area.
Venom stirs inside him, concentrating much of its mass in Eddie’s rib cage, where Marie is touching. What is she going to do to us?
“You’ll see, buddy, just be patient,” Eddie replies.
“Who you talking to, Eddie? Your alien?”
“Yeah, he talks to me. Constantly.”
Marie stands. “Ooh, sounds like that’s annoying. I’ll be right back.”
You think I am annoying.
“Yeah, we’ve established that already.” Eddie flips over to his back and crosses his arms over his bare chest. He has no qualms about his body, usually, but he does not like feeling exposed around an ex.
I don’t think you are annoying. I still think you’re a loser, but I like you.
“Can you just—can we put a lid on this until we get home, please?”
Venom’s tendrils bury deeper inside Eddie before going still, which Eddie interprets as Venom doing its best to leave him alone.
Marie returns a moment later with a stencil, and Eddie turns back to his side without having to be asked. With the stencil in place, Marie leads Eddie over to the full-length mirror.
As Eddie looks at himself to make sure he likes the placement, he spots Sol in the mirror, managing equipment at his own workstation across the room and stealing a glance at Eddie. Eddie flushes, but not with embarrassment. More like pride.
We can eat him if you’d like.
“No, Vee, we really can’t.”
He is looking at us. Do you think he still wants to be with you, Eddie?
“Why are you so nosy? Seriously?” To Marie, he says, “Looks perfect. Sorry I’m talking to myself.”
“What’s he talking to you about?” Marie asks as they walk back to her workstation.
“Sol.”
“Oh, that’s awkward.” Marie sits on her stool and puts on new gloves. “If he’s in there with you all the time, how the hell are you supposed to have any privacy?”
“I don’t.”
Eddie, what is that? Why does she have needles?
“Calm down, buddy,” Eddie placates even as he feels Venom’s tendrils pull as taut as strings of a guitar inside his body. “This is what getting a tattoo is like, and we trust her.”
Marie laughs.
She is going to hurt you.
“It’s OK.” Eddie’s entire body is rigid. “Can you please—loosen up a bit, Vee.”
It takes a moment for Eddie’s muscles to relax.
At the sound of the tattoo machine, Venom stirs but does not constrict again.
“You ready?” Marie asks sweetly, machine poised over Eddie’s rib cage.
“Yep.”
At the press of the needle, Venom turns to liquid inside Eddie, concentrating into a single point and numbing his side completely.
“Hey, hey, hey, no,” Eddie says.
Marie immediately stops. “What, what’s wrong?”
“Sorry, not you. Hold on a second.” Eddie flips to his back and looks down at himself. “The pain is OK. Don’t try to heal me.”
But it hurts you. She’s hurting you.
“I know that, but sometimes pain is...good. Just—hang out until she’s done.”
Marie doesn’t say anything, just waits for Eddie to give her the go ahead. She looks a little apprehensive as she presses the needle back to his skin.
After a few minutes, probably less than five, Venom swirls watery soft around Eddie’s ribs again, soothing the burned skin.
“Goddamn it, you’re doing it again.”
Marie stops. “Thank god I know about the alien, or else this would be a very strange experience for me.”
I don’t like feeling your body get hurt. I like your body.
Eddie sits up, groans, scrubs a hand down his face. “Venom. I am fine. Look at my body. This is how I got all the rest of the tattoos you love so much, by going through this pain. It’s not permanent, and it’s not even that bad. Please stop trying to fix it.”
Venom is quiet for a moment before saying, But why would you want to be in pain when I can fix it for you?
“I like this pain. I want to feel it. I’ll tell you what, if it gets to be too much, I’ll let you fix it. Deal?”
Fine.
Eddie lies back down on his side.
“My god, Eddie, what the shit?” Marie asks.
“He should be OK now, you can go ahead,” Eddie replies.
Marie clears her throat and tentatively presses the needle against Eddie’s skin. The pain is a single small point, constantly moving, burning, tickling, unlike any other type of pain imaginable. Eddie relaxes into it.
“So, the alien likes your tattoos, huh?” Marie asks after a few minutes of silence.
“Yeah. He likes pretty much everything about me.”
“Well, that sounds totally healthy and normal.”
Venom moves the bulk of itself into Eddie’s shoulders and neck and settles there. I can feel that you enjoy this pain. I think I understand.
“Anne said he and I are in a relationship,” Eddie says quietly.
“Gross, dude. He’s an alien living inside you, you can’t be in a relationship.”
“I mean, I get what you’re saying, but it’s not like I can be in a relationship with anybody else either. Kind of hard to be intimate with another human being when an alien is always talking inside my head and moving around inside my body.”
You don’t want to be in a relationship with anybody but Anne, though, and Anne understands us.
“Huh,” Marie says. “That kind of sucks, buddy.”
I don’t know how many times I’m going to have to tell you this today.
“Hmm?”
We should talk to Anne.
“He’s talking to you now, isn’t he? You’re not listening to anything I’m saying.” Marie stops the machine and wipes the wound. “What about sex? Like, if you tried to have sex with someone, would he pop out your face and get in on the action?”
That might be fun. We could try that.
Eddie’s heart drops to his stomach. “Um, let’s not—can we not talk about that right now.”
“Oh my god, are you talking to me or to him? What did he say?” Marie asks.
“Nothing.” Eddie laughs nervously. “And I’m not discussing sex with you, Marie, you’re, like, 20 years younger than me.”
“You dork, it’s not like you’re my dad.”
Does sex make you uncomfortable, Eddie?
Eddie buries his face in the crook of his elbow. His body wants to squirm, to escape this situation, but he has to remain perfectly still on his side.
Venom doesn’t say anything else to him, but it spreads itself evenly across Eddie’s body and holds him in place, immediately turning Eddie’s embarrassment into a quiet calm.
The tattoo takes another two hours for Marie to finish. It’s not very big, just about the same size as the Buddha up and to the right of it, but it is intricate and beautiful in a way that makes Eddie stare at it in the mirror for a solid minute and a half before Marie asks if he likes it or not.
“It’s gorgeous, Marie, thank you,” he says softly.
Marie pulls out her phone and presses a hand to Eddie’s side to make him turn toward her so she can snap a picture. Venom moves swiftly against the touch, pressing through Eddie’s muscle tissue and pushing out through the surface of his skin exactly where Marie’s hand is.
“Oh geez, what’s that?” Marie asks as she snatches her hand back.
“I don’t know, he’s never done that before. Vee, what’s the deal?” Eddie touches the spot where Venom still lingers.
Just testing something out.
“OK,” Eddie says, annoyed. “You’ve got to communicate with me, buddy, you can’t just randomly touch people.”
Venom rumbles through Eddie’s entire body in a long-suffering sigh.
“Why does he want to touch me anyway?” Marie asks.
She’s been touching us for hours, I was curious.
“He was, uh, curious,” Eddie repeats.
“About what?”
Venom rumbles again.
“I don’t know! I don’t know, Marie, he’s an alien.” Eddie glances around the shop and catches Sol’s eye before Sol quickly looks away. “Can we just—how much do I owe you?”
Marie doesn’t ask any other questions about Venom even though Eddie can tell she wants to, and she doesn’t say anything when he leaves her a much bigger tip than usual, but she does roll her eyes as she takes the cash. Eddie heads quickly out of the shop and is standing by his bike about to strap his helmet on when a familiar voice calls his name.
“Oh, hey, Sol,” Eddie says sheepishly, moving his helmet to his right hip and avoiding eye contact as Solomon walks up to him.
Stand up straight, Eddie. You look weak.
“Seems like Marie was giving you a hard time,” Sol replies, his voice deep and smooth. “You doing OK, Ed?”
Eddie scratches the back of his head. Stop fidgeting. “Yeah, I’m alright. You?”
“Your phone number the same?”
Stop moving.
“What?”
Sol tilts his chin down, making himself slightly more eye-level with Eddie. “I still have your number, if it’s the same. I’d like to use it.”
Eddie involuntarily laughs like an idiot. “OK, um, yeah, it’s the same. But, uh—”
“Good. See you later, Ed,” Sol says as he walks back into the shop.
Why did you let him talk over you? Why didn’t you stand up taller?
Eddie feels heat creeping up his neck, into his ears, as he recalls his and Sol’s relationship: there was rope sometimes, and Sol teasing Eddie about being a brat, and Sol always being the one in control even when they were out in public together, and Eddie enjoyed every bit of it.
Although Eddie is pretty sure Venom can see his memories when they flare so vividly, he still says out loud, “I didn’t wanna stand up taller. Not with him.”
You are a loser.
“Nah, this is different,” Eddie replies as he gets on his bike. “Sometimes it’s a choice to let someone else have, uh, control. Willingly giving up your own control, you know, that kind of thing.”
Like willingly feeling pain when getting a tattoo.
“Yeah, actually, kind of,” Eddie shouts over the roar of his bike as he pulls out of the parking lot and onto a main road.
Or willingly letting me take over your body.
Eddie grips the handlebars tighter and doesn’t respond.
He stops by Mrs. Chen’s before going home, letting Venom pick out whatever it wants (two bags of frozen tater tots, a gallon of chocolate milk, three different kinds of chocolate candy and a family-sized bag of salt and vinegar chips) and enjoying Mrs. Chen’s reaction when Eddie shows her his new tattoo.
“My niece is very talented, but I still think most of your tattoos are silly.”
“Thanks, Mrs. Chen.”
Back at their apartment, Eddie sits on the couch and reads the news on his phone while Venom eats all the food with its head and two arms protruding out of Eddie’s right side. Venom shares the chips and one of the candy bars with Eddie.
Eddie.
“Yeah, buddy.”
Your side hurts.
“Well, yeah, it’s gonna hurt for a while. Tattoos are like burns.”
Venom recedes back into Eddie’s body and slithers to his left side, swirling several small tendrils around the new tattoo. Is it still the good pain?
Eddie thinks about it for a moment before answering, “No, actually, it sucks.”
Venom soothes the pain immediately. Eddie closes his eyes and drops his head back against the couch; he didn’t realize just how much his side had been hurting. He reaches his hand down to cup his rib cage, and Venom responds by pulling tendrils out of his skin and lacing them with Eddie’s fingers, directly over the new tattoo.
“What are you doing, buddy?” Eddie asks even as he squeezes Venom’s inhuman fingers.
Marie called you ‘buddy,’ and now you’re calling me ‘buddy.’ It’s annoying.
“Oh good, something annoys you. Now I’m not the only one in this relationship that’s annoyed.”
Relationship.
Eddie clears his throat but still keeps his fingers tightly wound with Venom’s. “You know what I mean.”
Internally, Venom pulses near Eddie’s rib cage like a deep pressure concentrated against his bones. I think I can recreate the pain of getting a tattoo.
“What?”
You like the pain of the needle marking your skin. I can imitate it.
Eddie feels tense, his body rigid. “But—but why?”
Why not?
Eddie blinks. He can’t come up with a reason why not. He lets his fingers slip out of Venom’s grasp as Venom narrows one of its tendrils into an impossibly small point and presses Eddie’s side, gently at first and then speeding up as Eddie relaxes against the couch cushions.
“What the fuck, Vee, that’s so weird,” Eddie says on an exhale.
You enjoy it.
“Yeah. It’s weird as shit, but yeah, I do.”
Maybe we would be less annoyed with each other if we did more things that we enjoyed.
“Hey, I basically let you do whatever you want.”
Venom stops poking him. I’d like to eat more people.
“Oh yeah? Well, I’d like to have some privacy every now and then.”
Privacy? What do you need privacy for?
“I don’t know, like maybe if I had someone over and wanted them to spend the night.”
Venom moves up Eddie’s chest and wraps the bulk of itself around Eddie’s shoulders. You want to have sex.
Eddie runs a hand down his face then settles both his hands on his knees. “Yeah, well, a man has needs, and my needs aren’t exactly being met right now, so.”
Venom creeps up Eddie’s neck. I can help meet your needs, Eddie.
“I don’t know if—I’m not sure that’s a good—you know, I just—”
You want this. We can do whatever we want, Eddie. What’s stopping you?
“Well, um, for starters, you’re an alien. I don’t even know how we would…”
Venom materializes in front of Eddie, massive and solid, deeply black and muscled with a nearly fully-formed body connected to Eddie directly at his hips. It places one hand on Eddie’s side, near the tattoo, and its other on his shoulder. This body is close to what you humans look and feel like.
“No, um, not really, Vee.” Eddie puts his hands on the couch, not daring to touch Venom even though it is taking up so much space in Eddie’s lap that it feels against instinct not to put his hands near where its hips would be if it had them. “Do you even know or, like, understand what sex is? Is it something that you want?”
Venom grins and then sticks its tongue out, moving it slowly from one side of its mouth to the other. Yes. And yes.
“What? For real?”
Definitely for real.
Eddie sucks his bottom lip between his teeth and looks up and down Venom’s body, considering. “When you kissed me in the woods—”
Yes, I wanted to. Venom moves its head forward, its sharp teeth an inch from Eddie’s face. I want to now.
Heart hammering in his chest, Eddie relents and puts his hands on Venom’s sides. They almost feel like hips, but Venom’s body is more like liquid and string than muscle and bone. Eddie digs his fingers in. He tilts his chin up tentatively, presses his nose against Venom’s face before pulling back, looking at the alien curiously, then he turns his head to the side and slots his mouth against Venom’s.
Eddie tries to move his lips like a normal kiss, but Venom’s tongue fills his entire mouth, and it somehow suctions Eddie’s mouth against its own, and it’s too much, not enough, and Eddie’s arousal stirs in him so quickly that he would laugh if he could. The most he can do is make strained noises in the back of his throat.
After a minute or so, Eddie loses all sense of control and begins bucking his hips up, but there is nothing for him to buck against since their bodies are too intertwined in his lap. So he scrambles for one of Venom’s hands while simultaneously undoing his fly, and Venom gets the gist and wraps its weird malleable fingers around Eddie’s cock without breaking their kiss.
Venom’s hand morphs around Eddie’s cock, stretching and folding and weaving threads together until it feels like Eddie is actually fucking into a hole—not quite human, so not possible to define as any type of genitalia—and while Eddie thrusts his hips up, Venom constricts and relaxes around his cock in a steady rhythm all while continuing to fuck its tongue down Eddie’s throat. Then, impossibly, tendrils are everywhere, snaking around Eddie’s balls, caressing his skin, kissing his nipples, pushing into his ass—Eddie comes early.
Venom unwinds itself from around Eddie’s cock and releases his mouth. Eddie takes a deep breath, choking a bit as he realizes just how far down his throat Venom’s tongue was. Venom rumbles a laugh, licks Eddie’s face, then noses at his jaw as it fuses its mass against Eddie’s skin like a moving blanket. There is a feminine quality to Venom’s movements, which Eddie struggles to rationalize with his skewed view of the alien as a hulking beast that rips and bites people’s heads off. He decides it’s time to stop assigning gender-specific qualities to his alien.
I liked that.
Eddie tangles his hand in the tendrils of Venom’s neck. “Yeah, me too. Fuck.”
Is this the part where you freak out?
“Uh yeah, I guess I should. Fuck. That just, um, it felt really fucking good. Really good.” Eddie tries to bring Venom’s face toward him for another kiss, but Venom resists.
So if you’re not going to freak out, then we should talk.
“What? Why?”
That’s what we are supposed to do. Our relationship has been nebulous and undefined, and it has made you irritable and difficult to live with.
“Hey, you never said I was difficult to live with,” Eddie replies, feeling irrationally hurt.
I’m saying it now.
“OK. Fine.” Eddie tries to remember when he had to have this exact same conversation with Anne two weeks after he moved in with her. He thinks she may have approached him in a similar way, after sex, curled up close to him and soothing him with her touch. “It’s difficult for me to adjust to having you inside me, not because I don’t—it’s not that I don’t like you, it’s just that it’s, uh, different. You’re a fucking alien. There’s no human experience that could’ve prepared me for…” He points between their connected bodies. “This.”
I was not prepared either, Eddie.
“What do you mean?”
Venom kisses him. I did not expect to like you this much.
Eddie automatically smiles, then tries to downplay it by rolling his eyes. “OK. So. A relationship then? Do you even know what that entails?”
I hope it entails a lot more sex.
Eddie laughs. “Yeah. But it’s also, I don’t know, taking care of each other and—”
We already take care of each other.
“—And communicating our feelings, and spending time together.”
We spend all of our time together.
“Yeah. Um. I’m not sure you’re really understanding what I’m saying, and I’m pretty bad at this, too, so it’s probably gonna be different than, like, my relationship with Anne.”
Venom grins wide, showing every one of its teeth. Good. She can help us.

Request: Hi! I don't know if your requests are open but I had a request. Could you write one where Eddie's s/o is a nurse and she's treating COVID? She has to self isolate cause she's scared of passing it to Eddie and he and Venom are worried about her?
A/N: This fic is meant for enjoyment. I am in no way downplaying the severity of the situation. I actually related to this request a little. As I mentioned, my mother is a nurse, so I understand how hard this whole ordeal is.
Mood music: Level of Concern by Twenty One Pilots.
It felt like your work would never be done. You were always rushing around, doing your best. That's all you could do anymore. You had to just keep pushing forward, despite all the obstacles.
Even when you did catch a break, the stress still followed. It's felt like this whole situation has been going on for ages, when in reality, it's only been a little over a month.
After your shift ended, you found yourself in your apartment. It felt very cold and empty. You haven't really seen Eddie since all of this started happening. You'd call him, but he never seemed to stay on the line long enough.
He had asked you if you wanted to stay with him and Venom, but you worried about giving them this illness. You'd never forgive yourself- Surely, though, with Venom, he wouldn't get that sick. It felt like a 50/50 change and you weren't going to risk it.
You wanted nothing more than to just hug them and maybe have a meal together, but all those rather mundane things are dangerous anymore. With a sigh, you gathered up your pajamas and headed to the bathroom.
Shower, dinner, bed. You repeated to yourself. It had become routine. You had to be up early again for work. It was really starting to take its toll on you, all this isolation and loneliness. But it has to be done to protect others- That was your job.
The days started blurring together, and it felt like there was no end in sight. Almost felt like hope was fleeting. Your shifts began getting longer and longer as more people came in. There was almost too many to keep count.
Sometimes, you felt even worse about everything, when no matter your efforts.. Sometimes, people just never got better. You tried to not take it so personally, but it was hard not to when your life is now dedicated to helping people as much as you can.
Another shift was coming to an end and you were making your way back to the place you tried to call home. It felt more like an ice box. Steel cage- Whatever seemed to click that day. You were so tired, mentally and physically. You had no desire to even answer your phone when it began ringing in your pocket, but you did.
"Y/n?"
"Hey, Eddie." you tried to sound happy and full of energy, but you knew Eddie wouldn't buy it.
There was a pause as you fished your keys out of your pocket and dug them into the lock.
"I shouldn't have called." you heard him groan, probably not wanting you to hear it. "I'm happy you called," you replied, "I..I've missed you guys alot. What's new?"
There was another pause.
"Eddie?" you asked as you put your purse on the counter.
He sighed, and his tone came off almost like a needy whine, "Yeah, uh, V- I- We were wonderin' ...If, uh, you were gonna come home anytime soon. It's...Quiet."
You hesitated, "I'm not sure..I don't think I should."
"I knew you'd say that. Guess I just wanted to hear you actually say it."
He sounded so disappointed. You could feel your heart break right down the middle.
"I just- What if I got you sick, Eddie?"
"What if you don't?" Eddie was trying not to sound like a smartass, "Betcha didn't think of that, did you?"
"Eddie."
"Baby, listen," he started, "It's cool. I'm good, I swear. I'll wash my hands-"
"Do you not...Do that..Anyways?"
"I do, you know what I mean."
You were actually thinking about taking him up on his offer.
"I'm also certain that, like, maybe I can't get sick." Eddie said, rubbing his cheek, "I mean, I had that whole cancer thing, but Venom.. Got rid of that. Sorta. Look, I don't know how the alien thing works, but it works."
"Okay, but what if, and bare with me." You started, "You don't get sick, but you pass the virus to someone else."
"Already ahead of you." Eddie said, "Venom and I are kinda doin' the whole quarantine thing."
"You are?"
"We wanted to, I dunno, help you out." he said sheepishly, "You stressed about how isolation would help, so, we listened. We stocked up on groceries, too."
You took a moment to process that. Normally Eddie, just to press your buttons, would do the opposite of what you tell him.
"I'm impressed, and grateful."
"Soooo..." he droned, "Does that mean-"
"I'm thinking about it." you said.
"I'm not gonna make you if you don't want," Eddie sounded sheepish, "We were just worried about you- I know you told us why, but.."
You waited for him to answer. He must've been debating whether or not to say it. "We still wait for you to come home. Sometimes we sleep on the couch, so just in case, y'know, if you did..We just wanted to make sure you're okay."
You weren't sure what to say.
"Y/n?"
"Yeah?"
"You're okay, right?"
You stared at your calendar that clung to your fridge. if Eddie was sure of it, then maybe one night wouldn't hurt- Hell, maybe you'd feel a little better about everything.
"Yeah. I'm okay, but," you said, sighing a little, "if you're certain, I guess I can stay this weekend."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I'll be over on Friday after my shift."
You could practically hear the joy in his tone, "You sure?"
"Positive."
"Did she say yes?
You smiled, not sure if he could hear you, "I said yes, V."
"I'm relieved," he sounded uncharacteristically happy, "It's been so boring without you here. Eddie's stories aren't as funny as yours- And he doesn't know how to cook."
"Oh dear," you decided to humor him, "That's awful. What if on Friday, when I come over, I help you guys cook dinner?"
"Just like you used to?"
The way Venom had said it made it sound like all those things you guys used to together happened years ago. You smiled fondly at the thought of finally getting to be around them, "Yes, just like I used to."
"I love you."
"Love you too, V."
"I love you more."
"Love you too, Eddie."
There was a silence, and Eddie, being Eddie, just wanted to make sure he hadn't just had some sort of fever dream, "So, Friday..?"
"Definitely."
"You promise?"
"I promise."

Thinking Out Loud (Part 4)
Okay, so I ended up lying. This is a few months late to the cross-post from AO3. (Link here) But in any case, here it is if you prefer to read on tumblr.
Previous Chapter (tumblr link)
Taglist: @nesli26, @manga-crazy, @venomemes, @galleyleelol, @makingtimemine, @jackie-sugarskull, @nightshade7117, @skysthelimit291, @randomshizzles101, @inumorph, @snow-massacre, @phantom-fangirl-stuff, @pixellated-sparks, @vsalamandor2, @otaku-mai, @snarky-badger
You woke up slowly, feeling heavy from a deep, dreamless sleep. The apartment was eerily quiet aside from a faint scraping sound repeating over and over. Your psychic “hearing” took a minute to focus on the three minds in the other room, but once it did, you were overwhelmed by the internal conversation Eddie and Venom were having.
“I LIKE THIS FEMALE. WE SHOULD OFFER OUR PROTECTION TO HER. ”
“I don’t think that would go over well. Remember the last time we were tased? ”
“SHE DOESN’T HAVE TO KNOW. ”
“Consent is important buddy. Not to mention we don't wanna freak out the tenants either."
Lauren's thoughts were more structured--she was writing her words down and concentrating on that communication. However, that didn't stop her from sneaking glances at Eddie and sizing him up, trying to guess details about his life and personality. Currently she was sneaking glances at his biceps...for some reason you really didn’t want to dwell on too long.
"EDDIE, I HEAR HER," Venom whispered to his host. Like, actually whispered; his mental voice was somehow quieter than usual.
“She’s awake? That was faster than I thought. She seem ok? ”
“I THINK SHE’S LISTENING IN. MORSEL, IF YOU ARE, GO AHEAD AND KEEP RESTING. WE WILL OCCUPY THE COLORFUL FEMALE .”
The last two words were accompanied by a mental image of Lauren with an intense focus on her vibrant hair and current choice of large earrings. You also caught the tail end of a thought that was very distinctly non-human and carried traces of a predatory desire to grab the shiny, colorful things. Eddie’s thoughts quickly curbed it--a nonverbal suppression that Venom agreed with.
You slumped back into the mattress, turning your gaze inward as you stretched and assessed your body.
You were a little sore, especially in your chest. The hyperventilation from the panic attack really did a number on you it seemed. Your hands also felt a little stiff in the joints, but it didn’t hurt to move them.
Panic attacks didn’t always end up hurting after the fact, but it wasn’t wholly uncommon. Fatigue was usually the worst aftereffect, your body struggling to recover from your survival response to an imagined threat. It sometimes went away after a good sleep, but today was going to be one of those days where the heaviness settled into your bones and made even the smallest tasks far more tiring than they ought to be.
The once-over complete, you decided you were up for leaving the bed...but not the blanket, which dragged on the floor after you like a fluffy train. You gently pushed open the door and poked your head out, peering at the kitchen down the hall, catching sight of Eddie's leather jacket at the corner of the table.
A jolt of nerves coiled in your stomach and you pulled the blanket cloak around you a little tighter. With Eddie and Venom’s attention focused mostly on Lauren, their thoughts didn’t reflect what they thought of your panic attack. What if they thought you were pathetic? Or too fragile to be around? What if they had never seen a panic attack and thought you were somehow sick?
“EDDIE, SHE’S UP. SHE’S IN THE HALL. HER BREATHING WENT ALL FUNNY AGAIN. ”
Venom’s rumbling thoughts broke through the returning panic spiral. With effort, you stepped out from the hallway and into Lauren’s line of sight. Eddie caught your gaze, brow furrowed, but before you could properly react to him, your landlady took up your view.
Lauren looked you up and down, appraising your condition. While her face seemed only lightly concerned, her thoughts were at war: her motherly tendency to worry battled with her desire to give you space and the noverbal clash of feelings was giving you secondhand mental whiplash.
“Do you need something to eat? Or drink?” she signed. You replied with the sign for water and she bustled off to fill a glass.
“So, uh,” Eddie started, then paused, looking for the right words to finish his question. He finally went with: “How are you doin’ right now? Did your rest do you any good?”
You nodded and sat next to him at the table, reaching for the notepad he and Lauren had used before your arrival.
I’m achy, but otherwise fine now. Mostly.
“YOU WERE HIGHLY DISTRESSED. DID SOMETHING HAPPEN? CAN WE STOP IT FROM HAPPENING TO YOU AGAIN? ”
Venom’s concern felt...oddly directed. He didn’t fully understand what had happened and Eddie’s explanations hadn’t entirely cleared up his confusion. He was under the impression that someone had threatened you or you had some logical reason to freak out. He wanted to find the source of that stress and remove it, like pulling out a thorn.
Mindful that Lauren would probably read whatever you wrote down later, you set about composing your explanation.
It was a panic attack. Sometimes there’s a reason, but most of the time, I start thinking about something stressful and it gets so overwhelming my body reacts like I’m actually in danger.
Eddie and Venom conferred briefly about your explanation and suddenly the symbiote had a new question. You felt your gut twist as you felt the guilt his thoughts now carried.
“DID WE DO THAT TO YOU? DID WE FRIGHTEN YOU OR STRESS YOU? ”
Again, you were careful with your words.
It wasn’t anything you directly said or did. It was more about the prospect of being in a social situation at all. I don’t go out much, so I started overthinking the minor details. It spiraled really quickly from there.
Lauren put down a tall glass of ice water on the table in front of you. You signed your thanks, put down the pen and gulped the cool liquid, savoring the relief it brought your scratchy throat.
“How long was I asleep?” you asked Lauren.
“4 hours.”
“You’ve been talking to Eddie for 4 hours?!”
“He has to write really slow for me to read it. His normal handwriting is too messy. Plus, we took a lunch break.”
Lunch break?! You snatched the pen back up.
I’m so sorry I had to miss out on the lunch. You wanted to show me something and
Eddie’s hand intercepted yours, not grabbing it but rather gently holding you back from writing any more. It was only a moment of skin contact, but it made a jolt run through you and immediately snagged your attention.
“Don’t worry about it. Honestly, I’m just glad you’re ok and gonna be getting better. We can reschedule if you want. No problem.”
You instinctively glanced up, looking for his thoughts. You found nothing but sincerity from Eddie. Venom was....well, you weren’t actually sure what he was thinking. On a surface level, he agreed with his host, but underneath that there was some lingering frustration. The symbiote had apparently been really excited to show you something and this forced patience wasn’t entirely sitting well with him.
You carefully moved Eddie’s still-hovering hand and started on a new line.
What about the stuff you wanted to talk about? You wrote, uncertainty and guilt still gnawing at you.
“It can wait. Seriously. My buddy wasn’t even really ready to show off his new trick; he gets excited easy.”
“I SPENT ALL NIGHT PRACTICING! I AM TOTALLY READY! APOLOGIZE! ”
“You’re ready, Vee, but it’s my hands you need if you want to show her in public. And it’s a little soon to invite her to the apartment. ”
“SHE’S ALREADY BEEN TO THERE. I DON’T SEE WHAT THE HOLD UP IS .”
“Those...were extenuating circumstances. And besides, it was more you than me that brought her there. In any case, she’s still getting to know us and I want her to get used to us in public before we do any of your other ideas. ”
It was amazing how quickly they could turn the conversation internal and how much it resembled a verbal discussion rather than truly sharing thoughts. Was it because they knew you were listening? Or was it just their natural state when switching from direct talking to others to each other?
Eddie caught sight of you looking and gave an awkward smile.
“Sorry to keep secrets, but--”
He was interrupted by a ringtone blaring from his jacket. He sighed heavily and snatched his phone.
“It’s my boss. I got an interview in an hour. Sorry to say that I gotta run. I’ll text you later, so go ahead and take it easy for a bit. I’ll leave you to your landlady’s care.”
He waved to Lauren as he answered his phone, turning on his heel to leave. Venom mentally grumbled but gave a nonverbal farewell directed at you. You stared after them long after the door closed, uncertain what to think.
Lauren sat next to you and started signing.
“Well, now I know why you called him a hot mess. Emphasis on the hot.”
You hated how fast your cheeks flushed.
