Uncle Rick worked hard on a production that represented everything he originally stood for: his son.
He did not create this world for us, he did not create these characters FOR US. This was his way of helping his son. He made this world, the books, the show, for his son. Not us.
All Uncle Rick ever has been is an amazing father and an amazing writer.
"The casting and show didn't meet my personal preferences" then stop fucking watching. It's not for you. The entire reason this world exists is because a father loved his son so much that he felt he deserved more than just what he loved, but deserved something entirely new created for him.
I'm so sick of people acting as if the riordanverse should meet up to their personal standards. In uncle Rick's eyes, the series is already as perfect as it could possibly get. He is the reason for all the changes, because not only is he trying to make a remake to represent everything it was originally created for, but he's also trying to accommodate for the current media and viewers out there. He is doing everything in his power to make this a good thing, and yet every week there is a new article with the title "Rick Riordan faces criticism on new Percy Jackson Episode". Like did he put all that fucking work in for nothing?! You guys have been begging for an accurate adaption for years, you finally get one, and all you do is scrutinise it? It's just so fucking stupid.
Very cool and not heartbreaking at all for the PJO show to emphasize that Percy is an outsider not only because he's new to the whole demigod thing, but also because he doesn't know the rules of being a traumatized kid with all the daddy/mommy issues possible
So. I just remembered this name I really like: Aster. I associate it a lot with the stars for some reason (edit: it literally translates to “star” in Greek) and I was considering replacing Castin’s name with it today. But I just learned that it’s a FLOWER. And guess what color the flower is.
Yellow and Purple (and green including the stem). Now I’m losing my mind cuz it’s a name I love with a nice correlation to my character. AND ITS GENDER NEUTRAL?!
I know it’s a big change, and it’ll take time to get used to, but I think it might be worth it, since his name has bugged me since the dawn of time; I kinda just made it up off the top of my head, and it rhymes with his rank (Captain) too much for me to take seriously. I don’t know if I should retag my old posts or keep them as is if I do change it? Lemme know guys, I wanna hear ur thoughts, even if I do end up making the final decision.
lorelais weird beef with jess in s2 is like. u are a grown woman. moreover the weird bit where she kinda sorta prioritizes her daughter's whiny bf over her actual daughter is. u are a grown woman and that is a teenage manchild.
I just love how in the book Aegon and Daemon were the definition of grey characters and the Velaryon boys the perfect Princes especially Jace but the show decided to turn Daemon&Aegon into one dimensional villains and Jace&his brothers into utter jokes so Cringemond could shine instead of them.
I wouldn't put Aegon and Daemon in the same category for book canon tbh, mostly because with Aegon we lack so much info. We must scrap and make assumptions with the little we have, while Daemon has much more constant moments and traits that establish his character. Regardless however, I do agree neither were one dimensionsal in the book and both of them and the velaryon boys were done dirty.
With Aegon one moment they tried to make him sympathetic and the next they tried to make him despicable. In the book you can hate him for his action and still find sympathy for the things he have to live with. It's actually one of my favorite things from grrm's work; every character has something you grab and feel some sympathy for. It doesn't reddeem their actions but you understand why they think they're right.
the show wasn't able to do this sort of thing with any of the characters.
Jace, Luke, Rhaena and Baela were so terrible mistreated in the first season. And the cherry on top is Ryan believes having them all together when Aemond lost his eye was some grand breaking moment.
the dance is a part that hurts to read because there's a clear motive as to why everybody does what they do and by the time the wort comes you've become attached to the important characters.
Daemon for example goes through a character journey that many fans (even his own) don't seem to comprehend. The Daemon who was ready to defend his brother's claim isn't the same Daemon who goes to a suicide mission to ensure victory for Rhaenyra.
Sadly we'll never get to see that character on screen. The show is determined to make him some joker-agent-of-chaos bullshit that dudebros idolize and girls root for because he looks good.
As for the velaryon boys the show had the opportunity to give them the depth we didn't have in the book due to the limited time but again wasted it because the writers are so clearly biased. I wouldn't necessarily call them team green because in my eyes the green characters suffer a lot through the terrible writing. They definitely attempted to make them more empathetic - which worked i guess because fanbase that is non readers are more curious about the greens because they have the whole "dysfunctional family" thing going on.
There's still a chance for Jacaerys in s2 but I'm keeping every single expectation low at this point.
Aemond is 100% still gonna be portrayed as a victim. I suspect they'll attempt to give him an arc where he's "forced" into becoming a terrible person due to the war so his canon actions can happen. It's gonna be awkward as hell
