006. xingqiu
— we're not supposed to be seen together | assorted dialogue from I'M SORRY, I JUST HAD TO FIND YOU by mcflymemes | 472 words
there is a time and place for everything, except the world does not believe you deserve a time or place to meet with xingqiu—perhaps that is for the better.
"we're not supposed to be seen together," xingqiu says despite raising his hand like a gentlemen so you can take it and carefully climb through his window.
"i am aware," you bite sarcastically. there is no time pointing the obvious, but your next words betray your urgency. it feels wrong visiting him in the dead of the night and not confessing—in one form or another—how much you miss his stupid pretty face. "i'm sorry, i just had to find you."
xingqiu is quick to hand you a towel for your hair. thunder faintly cracks in the distance. normally he would also offer one of his shirts when you are drenched on his way to his place, but not a single evidence of your arrival can be birthed, so the blanket is a risky act of mercy. you're not going to ask for more.
"you're going to get yourself in so much trouble."
"you say that as if you care about me," you quip, tilting your head to accentuate your lopsided smile. "we both know you're the one who will be the one in deep shit if caught." it truly is hard not to bicker with him, and in fact, this was something you missed ever since you moved to the outskirts of liyue to expand your family's business—a branch that ambitiously competes against feiyun commerce guild. xingqiu told you that your family is crazy. you point out that's where you get it from, like now, standing in front of him after his parents threatened to sue yours, accusing them for stealing trade secrets.
(your parents did, and you had to team up with yanfei to save their sorry ass.)
for xingqiu to have you inside the room is akin to making a deal with the devil. in the eyes of those who don't know him like you do.
"what's so important that you had to find me?" he asks, taking your damp towel. he tucks it into his laundry basket in the corner of his room. good thing he has employees that can keep small secrets. sort of.
"you'll hate me for this."
"that'll be making my role as feiyun commerce guild's son easier. remember? i am supposed to hate you."
"good."
and before the next crack of thunder, you envelope him into a deep hug, hearts resonating in pulse. his hands are limp, but it's not long before it embraces you tightly too, fingers digging into the back of your shirt as if he's desperately clinging on the smooth side of a rock.
"you liar," he whispers, voice firm.
you chuckle weakly.
"i learned it from my parents."

Dancing With Visions - Perfect Lead - Foxtrot - Xingqiu
Author Notes: The second fic for my "Dancing With Visions" fic series for Genshin Impact. The Foxtrot is a lovely ballroom dance that is fairly well known since it's a common choice for wedding dances. The performance in this fic was inspired by the spring 2012 dance lab performance by BYU Spring Ballroom Dance Team to the song LOVE by Michael Buble which can be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVGTLEK69I4&list=PLVg_j5iznUjYWnT-fYAHMVVKxIxc0Yfb6&index=37, The fic itself was actually written to “Everything” by Michael Buble though. Just like the rest of this series, reader is female. I hope you enjoy!
If you would like to read more of this series, the fics can be found here: Dancing with Visions Masterlist
Type: Female reader/ Can be platonic or romantic/ fluff/ dance/ sfw

There was something odd about walking into the room as part of a long line of matching couples at Xingqiu’s side. Almost like there was a sense of deja vu due to the number of practices you’d done as a group.
And truthfully, you didn’t know anyone here other than Xingqiu. But when he’d asked if you would be his partner for a dance show involving numerous couples all performing the same foxtrot as a group, you’d accepted.
You hadn’t really known the dance beforehand and had to learn it just for this occasion, but Xingqiu was a longtime friend of yours, even despite the difference in your rank.
With that said, though, you were almost positive that everyone here, as either a dancer or a member of the audience, was, save for yourself, a member of the nobility. Either that or, at the very least, they had a hefty bit of money.
You almost cringed to think how much money Xingqiu must have spent on your dress that perfectly matched those of all of the other ladies present. Not that he’d cared, of course. He hadn’t minded shelling out the mora at all. You had to match the other women, or all that practice would have been for naught after all.
He’d been even more thrilled when he’d been able to tell you to simply keep the dress and think of it as a gift or payment for dancing with him.
But none of that really mattered now that the performance was about to start.
You pivoted to face him, noting the smile on his face as you smiled nervously in return while the audience began to politely applaud as the music started.
Xingqiu spun out almost immediately to smile charmingly at the crowd as you carefully struck your pose. One gloved arm reaching up towards the sky as you stepped out just enough to show the rich fabric of your skirts.
His eyes darted your way as he stepped lightly towards your side, and you did the same, immediately beginning to pivot together and carefully linking your arms so that you’d be ready to spin out as soon as you made your full rotation.
Perhaps the most nerve-wracking thing about this entire performance was that you had to move perfectly in time with the other couples.
Simply put, no one would stare unless you were out of time, but if you got off beat, suddenly everyone would be looking at you.
The group split evenly in two. One half going to the left side of the room while your section moved to the right as you slowly and elegantly slipped into the dance’s closed hold with Xingqiu. Your hand one had now clasped in his while the other found his shoulder, and his free hand carefully rested against your upper back.
The elegance that came with doing a foxtrot seemed to come naturally to Xinqiu as he glided across the floor with you. Guiding you to walk backwards before twirling you out so that you could sashay sideways and pass by the dancers as the half of the performance you were on shifted to the left side of the room.
Perhaps the oddest thing about doing this performance was that it would, at anyone else's side, be incredibly frightening. But as you danced along with Xingqiu, you found yourself genuinely smiling as you relaxed into the gliding motions that he led you through.
He leaned forward, an easy smile still on his face, as he guided you back across the room to trade places with another couple, “One this turn, look towards the window.”
He offered no explanation for his whispered instructions, but you did as you were told. Glancing out the window, only for your eyes to collide with Xiangling’s, where she stood next to Chongyun. Peeking through the window, waving, and cheering you on.
You felt your smile grow at the sight of them before you realized, all too soon, that the part you’d dreaded the most about this entire performance had already come.
The switching of partners.
You stopped in a carefully choreographed pause, looking towards Xingqiu as he smiled at you reassuringly before stepping backwards. One hand still outstretched towards you as if he didn’t truly want to leave you before he turned to accept his new partner.
And you knew that all of this was choreographed, but you could help but feel strangely touched by the gesture paired with the smile on his face.
And even though you spiraled with the unfamiliar noble man who carefully led you, you found yourself looking forward to when you separated to rejoin your partner, who was the entire reason you were here.
It wasn’t as if dancing with this other man was bad, per se. But you knew perfectly well that you wouldn’t really be comfortable until you returned to Xingqiu.
And blessedly, the time came soon, with you sweeping away from your brief partner and trotting with barely contained excitement back to where Xingqiu stood. Barely containing his chuckle as he accepted your outstretched hand, like he’d been awaiting your return all this time.
You reentered your graceful circuit of the room once more. Spiraling with the other couples and creating a perfectly beautiful image of choreographed, matching couples for those who watched.
You parted from Xingqiu briefly, joining the other women to swirl around the room as if each of you were doing your best to show off every inch of fabric within your skirts as your partners watched. Dutifully lined up along the wall.
And most of the men watched with slight interest, some nodding at certain motions while maintaining their almost rigid position.
But with each turn, you could see Xingqiu standing out from the group as he watched you with a fond and proud smile.
Patiently awaiting his cue before he marched across the room to rejoin you, watching as you briefly partnered with yet another unfamiliar noble before Xingqiu reclaimed your hand.
And then you stayed with him, half breathless as you swirled across the floor, racing towards the end of the performance before everyone once more lined up.
Each couple arm in arm before the lead looked towards the lady next to them, Xingqiu’s eyes meeting yours with a grin before he spun you out so you could take your ending pose. The last couple of the line to do so just as the applause began. Thundering through the room as all of the couples turned as one and quite literally danced their way out of the room.
Smiles of relief splitting across everyone’s faces as you and Xingqiu both laughed. Relieved that it was finally over and still giddy from having danced.
Xingiqu leaned closer to you as everyone at last finished exiting the stage, laughter still on his lips as he whispered to you, “You were perfect.”
You found yourself giggling slightly even as your heartbeat at last relaxed back to a normal pace as you recovered from the fact that you’d just literally performed in front of an entire slew of nobles alongside another posse of nobles. Something you never thought you’d do and never would have been able to do if it weren’t for Xingqiu.
“All thanks to my perfect lead,” Your gaze met his and you both smiled at each other, something unspoken passing between the two of you before you both started laughing once more.

"Best Friend!"
— where xingqiu gets friend-zoned by his crush. (rip) fem reader x xingqiu!
Tumblr media
"Y/n, slow down!" Xingqiu gasps for air as his best friend, Y/n, drags him around the city of Liyue, buying everything she found cute and interesting.
"The city's much more interesting at night, Xingqiu! Plus, I'll be going back to Mondstat tomorrow." Y/n whines, turning around to face her blue-haired best friend. She watches as Xingqiu's face turns into one of realization and then one of sadness, making her giggle.
"Oh.. You're right," Xingqiu mutters, quite sadly for Y/n's liking. To Xingqiu's surprise, Y/n places a hand on his shoulder and smiles brightly, her eyes reflecting the lanterns that were lit all around Liyue.
"That's not the mood I want before I leave, Xingqiu! We're going to finish this night and we're going to have fun!" Y/n enthusiastically says, as Xingqiu nods. "Now, how about some seafood dishes?"
Xingqiu gasps, "Yes, please!" and with that, Xingqiu takes Y/n's hand in his, rushing to find the nearest restaurant that sold any kind of seafood dish.
Xingqiu and Y/n had a lot of things in common. Books, writing, but most importantly, their love for seafood.
"Now, you're the one who needs to slow down!" Y/n laughs, as she allows herself to get dragged around by her best friend, who was drooling over the thought of eating seafood.
The rest of the night, they were both laughing and giggling, talking about things that they enjoyed doing and talking about how their lives were going.
They enjoyed every single bit of that night, hoping it would last forever. But as if time wasn't on their side, it didn't. Sadly, all things come to an end. One of the things just happened to be this night.
The next morning, as Y/n was preparing to head back to Mondstat, Xingqiu stops her right before she could even exit the harbor.
"Y/n, wait up!" The male calls out to his best friend, who stops walking. He could hear the shocked noise that came out of her mouth, only encouraging him to keep talking.
He was out of breath, but he didn't care. Y/n turned around, her eyes wide and cheeks red. Did he really have to come all this way, so early in the morning, for her?
Stuttering, she replies, "X-Xingqiu? It's so early. What in Barbatos' name are you doing out here?" worriedly, Y/n crosses her arms, taps her foot on the ground, and sends Xingqiu a concerned look.
"I.. I wanted to gift you this," Xingqiu holds out a book. Y/n's eyes widen, as this was the book she'd been looking for, for such a long time.
"This is..!"
"Yes. Heart's Desire, it is. I found it on-"
Xingqiu couldn't even finish, as a pair of arms was wrapped around him, making his face go red and body go still.
"Xingqiu, you don't know how much this means to me." Y/n holds the book close to her chest, as if it was a treasure. "You actually found it.."
"Anything for you, Y/n." Xingqiu silently curses himself, as he didn't mean for that to come out of his mouth. After seeing your face red though, he no longer regretted saying anything.
"You're the best-est friend anyone could ask for, Xingqiu! Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
Okay, ouch.
So after all the thanking and hugs, Y/n decided that she wanted to get back to Mondstat before it gets dark. They bid their farewells and promised to see each other again.
"You can do it next time, Xingqiu.." The blue-haired boy assures himself, as he sighs.
There, on his hand, was a letter. A letter for you, that he failed to put inside your pocket, once again.
But little did he know, that you were smugly walking your way back to Mondstat, a proud look on your face as you had successfully put something in his pocket.

FEM/FEM-ALIGNED DNI. YOU WILL BE BLOCKED.
Tumblr media
Being a ghost is boring most of the time. Especially if you’re the type no one can see.
You usually spend your days idling by, phasing through anything and everything, save for solid terrain. Though recently, you’ve taken a liking to people-watching. Who knew humans could be so interesting? They live, they love, they laugh - they die, they hate, they cry. Particularly, you have been intrigued by a pair of friends who go by Chongyun and Xingqiu, the former an exorcist and the latter an heir to a renowned guild. Oh, all the things that humans do to leave behind a little proof…
The exorcist seems to always look bothered or bored and the young heir would try to cheer him up by pranking him. The pair is such a delight to watch, you thought. But on this specific day, you decide that you are going to eavesdrop on their little conversation instead of merely watching. Chongyun’s frown on this day seems more prominent than usual, which worries you somewhat. And as always, his chivalrous friend is by his side, in another attempt to trick him into an exorcizing gig.
“C’mon Chongyun, chin up! Tell you what, I heard that someone found a haunted doll near Wangshu Inn…don’t you wanna check that out? Wouldn’t that be fun? Usually you have to deal with regular spirits but maybe this one’ll be different!” Xingqiu tries to convince his friend, nudging his shoulders playfully. You can see the corners of Chongyun’s lips quirk up slightly, as if he’s trying his best to hold his smile back - or that he’s genuinely so down in the dumps that he can only manage what may be the tiniest smile in Teyvat (if it could be called a smile in the first place).
“It’s no use, Xingqiu. Every day feels the same. I wake up, I get a promising lead, then I arrive at the place only to be met with disappointment because either there never was a spirit in the first place or that I already scared it away with just my pure yang energy,” Chongyun complains as he brings his knees up to his chest and buries his face in them. Xingqiu sighs, his face unreadable. That’s when you realize that you yourself are somehow unaffected by Chongyun’s yang spirit…and that maybe you can help with his little crisis.
“A haunted doll near Wangshu Inn, huh? That may be worth looking into,” you whisper and grin to yourself. With that, you make your way to the aforementioned inn by dramatically flying into the sky and vanishing - not that anyone could see. But you just feel like being a little silly. Little do you know that “little” will turn into a lot soon.
Tumblr media
You may have wanted to listen in more on the two’s conversation. You have no idea where the doll actually is and “near Wangshu Inn” is too general of a term. You’ve wandered here enough to know there’s another ghost who they call Dusky Ming but even she can’t see you. Literally nobody can see you, neither human or ghost, and it has left you questioning your existence for a while. But now you couldn’t care less; well, except you could. It does get pretty lonely sometimes after all.
“If I was a haunted doll, where would I be?” you say to yourself as you roam around the inn aimlessly. Though you have considered the possibility that you might just phase through this so-called haunted doll instead of possessing it, you never know until you try. You’re always trying too hard - but you can't exactly not try at all. So there you are, possibly searching for an item that may not even exist in the first place; but then you see it.
In a quiet and desolate corner of the inn, in the cramped space behind the huge watermill, you see a doll slump lifelessly on the ground. You expected a more human-like doll but instead, it looks like a teddy bear more than anything. It even seems a bit similar to that bear you see running around Liyue with his chef companion - Guoba is his name, isn’t it? And the chef girl is Xiangling if you recall correctly. Suddenly, you perk up at the thought of a new idea; what if you become the Guoba to those two boys?
“That is, if I can possess this thing…” you mumble to yourself as you near the doll; you now clearly see how battered and bruised it is. But you can give it life, give it joy, if only you can possess it. You hope to the Archons that you wouldn’t just walk right through it. And so you crack your ghostly knuckles and with a loud exhale, you purposely crash into the doll with all your might. Cue the confusion; you don’t really feel much different except…
Your gaze feels much more fixed than before. And that you feel much, much shorter.
“No way…I did it?!” you exclaim as you glance at your hands- I mean, paws. You start jumping up and down, absolutely thrilled that you successfully managed to possess an inanimate item finally and that you’re not a dishonor to the paranormals. You don’t worry about being spotted much - after all, there’s a reason why the doll was left there in the first place. Then you rub your cute little paws together mischievously; oh, you cannot wait for the exciting adventures you’re about to embark on in the future.
And the first stop is none other than the two boys.
Tumblr media
The agenda for the first day of possessing an inanimate object: stalk the two boys and give them more than just a little fright. Call it a ghost’s instinct but you can’t fight the urge to just give them your biggest “Boo!” and see their cute little faces all pale and frightened. You giggle at the thought as you sneak from building to building in Chihu Rock, frantically searching for the two boys. The harbor’s been pretty busy these days, you notice; which left you with no choice but to parkour in the shadows. But you don’t mind - it’s been a while since you’ve felt this giddy.
You let out a short exhale when you see that familiar light blue cowlick poking out around the outer-corner of a restaurant - Wanmin Restaurant, to be precise. And when you turn that corner, to nobody’s surprise, you can see that Xingqiu is by his side. You swear to the Archons these two really are inseparable; but that is no hindrance, quite the opposite actually. You get to kill two birds with one stone or rather, prank two boys with one jumpscare. You giggle to yourself as you prepare to give them the fright of their lives.
“Boo!” you cry out as you jump out from your little hiding spot and sure enough, they copy you and jump also - except they do so out of shock. But then they begin to regain their composure a little too quickly for your liking, and they don't even turn pale! Maybe you are a disgrace to the ghost race…you begin to think so, until Xingqiu interrupts your (self-deprecating) train of thought.
“Woah, look at this thing! It looks a bit like Guoba, doesn’t it? It looks pretty beaten up though…” he comments, Chongyun tilting his head curiously at you in response. You aren’t used to the attention so of course you freeze in place. Even the chef guy there is starting to take notice of your presence, his face unreadable but you suppose he’s confused. Then to your dismay, Chongyun looks away but not before he gives you a bored look.
“You and Xinyan say that about anything that vaguely resembles a bear. It’s probably some stray that got lost in town,” Chongyun merely dismisses you, probably the result of many, many letdowns. Xingqiu lets out an awkward laugh and even the chef goes back to cooking as if you never appeared. You can’t help but empathize with Chongyun - it really does feel like every effort you make is just a waste of time. But, again, it’s not like you can’t not try.
So you try the same trick on the day after. And the day after that too. And so on.
Along the way, you’ve learnt the proper way to spook humans; hide in either a very obscure spot or in a very obvious one, as if hidden in plain sight. For example, one afternoon, you managed to somehow jumpscare the two simply by standing quietly behind them while they were walking down the street. Another tip is that spook them at night or at spots with barely any light source, i.e. Wuwang Hill. On one of your luckier days, you got to scare them at night and at Wuwang Hill - and in both cases, they seemed to walk home faster than usual.
But even then, you could tell that they were smiling while they ran away from you. Albeit you are a bit spooky, you are also a friend. A familiar face they’ve come to recognize over the days. And for that, you make it a habit to say your thanks to the Archons for granting you friends, finally.
Even a haunted doll wants friends, after all.

xingqiu x reader
# mention of weapons, fighting, poor health, 500 words.
. ⁺ .   ˚ ✦ . + ⁺ . ✦
you stare at the sword in your hand. it has grown heavy, but it can’t compare to the weight in your heart. your opponent didn’t spare you after your defeat, his words harsh and brutal to your already fragile heart hosted by an even fragile body.
you grip your sword tighter only to plunge it into the dirt, letting out a deep scream. you won’t let this get into your head. you will train harder, better, and you’ll come back proving your nothing he said you were. except your legs give way and your lungs feel so small — if not for your determined grip on your sword you would have fallen to the floor.
xingqiu emerges from the crowd, eyebrows knitted together and mouth pulled into a frown. he’s quick to pass you a bottle of water, his other hand drawing circles on your back.
“you did great today,” he whispers — or it feels like it. your ears aren’t picking up much other than a flat incessant ring. “feeling better? do you feel light headed again?”
shaking your head, you avoid his gaze. he has a point. compared to before, your training with the guhua clan has helped with your breathing, so you were able to maintain a steady heart rate for longer.
however, no amount of training could have prepared you for the sharpness of words. will you always be the one left lying on the floor? the one people have to coo at? the burden, the undesirable. the weakling. titles you’ve silently carried due to your poor health.
“i’ve got you some herbal water. drink,” xingqiu commands gently, pushing the bottle water closer to your face. your shaking fingers barely have to strength to grab it, so he lifts it to your lips.
the close proximity probably helped him catch sight of your emerging tears.
“he's an opinionated young man,” xingqiu says abruptly, although it does comfort you a bit. after all, the person you challenged was none other than his brother. “he lives to share these opinions even when they are not solicited.”
“… he’s not the first,” you state after a few sips of water and past the bottle back to him. “it’s common sense, really.”
he places the bottle on the ground, both his hands on your shoulder as he adjusts himself for you to look at him squarely.
“i don’t see you that way. the guhua clan never saw you that way either.”
“everyone else does though,” you breathe out.
“should their opinions matter?”
more than mine? his unsaid question lingers.
xingqiu is an elegant man. posture perfect, hair never out of place unless it was intended; to hear a hint of desperation in his tone makes you unwillingly flinch.
“come, let’s get you to rest someplace more comfortable than the streets,” he says as he helps you up.
you know this conversation isn’t done. there’s more he has to say from the way he looks at you, but you know he’s more concerned to get you to the infirmary from his gentle touches.

note – i queued this to 11:30pm my time; it’s my birthday today (oct 8), and xingqiu’s is tomorrow, and i’ve had this idea for a while now. this is mostly self-indulgent because my birthday is a sensitive topic for me. take this in whatever light you wish - i just wanted something soft. i don't care if this doesn't show in the tags. sections in italics are memories. not proof-read.

october nights are always cold in qingce village. the countryside is humid thanks to the nearby bodies of water and waterfalls; the plantation soil is wet, adding to the cold feeling, and the wind is chilly, seeping into your bones.
you cradle your coat closer to your body, shivering as a breeze messes with your hair and clothes. what an unfortunate time to not have a pyro vision, you think, adjusting yourself better on the roof of the village’s community center building.
it was nearing midnight, if the moon’s position in the sky was anything to go by. had you been in liyue harbor, you’d probably be in the same spot as usual; this year, however, you’d been hired by granny ruoxin to keep a lookout for the unusual increase of treasure hoarder activity in the area, and to protect the village if necessary.
maybe you should’ve brought a xiao lantern with you, if only for sentimental value.
when you moved to liyue harbor two years ago, you had, against all odds, struck a weird sort of friendship with the heir of the feiyun commerce guild. your line of work mostly involved odd jobs here and there, fighting for whoever paid you enough mora, and xingqiu had jumped on the opportunity to test his skills against you. being a little older and more experienced than him proved to be an advantage at first, but he’s a fast learner, and soon your matches were ending in draws more often than not.
you also shared a love for books and writing, bonding over plot holes and novel ideas; it didn’t take long for you to be included in his poetry battles against hu tao, quietly sitting beside chongyun as he acted as judge.
finding out you shared close birthdays was a pleasant surprise.

on your first birthday in the city, you bought yourself a treat near sunset and walked up all the way to bubu’s pharmacy so you could sit on the railing and watch the city lights and dwindling movement below. xingqiu had startled you not long after, jokingly asking if there were any special occasions for the treat, ending up with you sheepishly admitting it was your birthday. he looked at you, momentarily stunned, then smiled devilishly, a glint in his amber eyes.
“meet me in the valley of mt. tianheng near midnight - the one that overlooks the harbor.”
he’d been waiting for you with two xiao lanterns. the both of you sat quietly next to each other by the edge of the valley, feet dangling in the air as you lit one of the lanterns and lifted it up, slowly watching it drift away into the night sky.
“happy birthday.”
“thank you.” you smiled, then nodded at the second lantern that sat between you. “what’s this one for?”
“oh, my birthday is on the ninth.”
you hum, gaze tiredly drifting back to your floating lantern, now a mere dot against the starry canvas.
“maybe you should lit it, then. i’m pretty sure it’s past midnight.”
xingqiu laughed quietly beside you, and pretty soon his own lantern was floating away in a similar path yours had taken. you had turned your head to take in the boy beside you; an unexpected friend.
“happy birthday, xingqiu.”
Tumblr media
on your second birthday in liyue harbor, xinqiu ran into you as you were walking past the feiyun commerce guild at noon.
“same place, same time?” he’d asked, and if you didn’t know any better, you’d have said he sounded hopeful. you were late to complete your own commision, and xu had been looking at the both of you funny, so all you could do was smile and nod before running off.
in addition to the xiao lanterns, the boy had also brought a small blanket. it had been a chilly day, with an even colder, but the stars were shining brightly, and you sat pressed together, sharing warmth beneath the blanket that hung on both your shoulders.
following last year’s steps, you lit one of the lanterns first, watching it drift away lazily, and then xingqiu lit the remaining one. the silence was comfortable; simply enjoying each others’ presence.
after a while, you had elbowed him softly on the ribs, humor in your voice.
“seventeen, huh?”
he groaned.
“yes, my liege.”
“ew, don’t call me that.” you complained, earning a little laugh from him. “is there anything you wanna do today?”
“i hope i can spend some time with my friends.”
you grew quiet at that. then, gently, intertwined your hand with his and squeezed.
“happy birthday, xingqiu.”
Tumblr media
you had broken the news to him two weeks before your birthday.
“sorry – i didn’t want to break our tradition so suddenly, but i can’t–”
xingqiu had called your name, effectively silencing your apology. he smiled, placing a hand on your shoulder, grip comforting and familiar.
“it’s alright, my liege. we can always do a symbolic lantern release later.” he removed his hand, holding both of them behind his back. “when do you leave?”
“tomorrow.”
he nodded.
“well then. shall we spar?”
Tumblr media
distant movement catches your eyes and you latch onto it like a hawk. the moon can only provide so much light, and you watch as a figure comes closer and closer by the bridges – only one? is it bait? you can’t tell, but you prepare yourself for a fight nonetheless, ready to jump off the roof in a heartbeat.
what you hadn’t prepared for was xingqiu.
he’s in his usual attire, a backpack slung on one shoulder, with two unlit xiao lanterns in hand. he waves once he’s close enough and tells you to stay where you are, and you’re too stunned to do anything other than nod, still processing the fact that xingqiu came all the way from liyue harbor – just to release lanterns?
next thing you know, he’s sitting next to you, decidedly amused.
“good evening, my liege. beautiful night, isn’t it?”
“please tell me you didn’t walk all the way here from the harbor.”
“perhaps.”
you groan, pressing your face into your hands.
“fucking hell, xingqiu.”
he laughs, scooting closer until your sides are pressed together, and then wraps an arm around you. his cold skin against your barely warm one makes you look up.
“i’m joking. i ran into the traveler earlier today, and they had a commission nearby, so they brought me along through a teleport waypoint. they’ll be waiting for me.”
“oh.” he squeezes your shoulder and moves to rummage through his backpack, revealing the same blanket from last time. “good. but you didn’t have to come all this way, you know?”
he drapes the blanket over both your shoulders, offering a small reprieve from the cold air.
“i know. i wanted to.”
with a sigh, you put your hand in front of him.
“hand me a lantern.”
“gladly!”
you light it up, with xingqiu’s attentive gaze on your movements, but you hesitate before releasing it. you look at the lantern in your hands, then at the boy beside you, amber eyes soft in the muted light.
“let’s release them together.”
“ah– sure. let me–”
he scrambles to light up his own, and you both count down from three before releasing them into the night sky of qingce village; the stars are brighter, and it’s easier to lose sight of them once the float far enough, yellow lights flickering amisdt white.
the silence is peaceful, and you rest your head against xingqiu’s, his arm around the small of your back underneath the blanket, both of you with knees drawn up against your chests. you touch one of his knees with the tip of your fingers.
“happy birthday.”
the fondness in his voice is unmistakable.
“happy birthday.”

⚠️ Warning: Fluff, Books, Nerdy stuff😀
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Second son of the Feiyun Commerce Guild, Xingqiu has had a reputation for being studious and polite ever since he was a young child.
You were wandering around Liyue Harbor.. when you saw Xingqiu having trouble on what to write in his next book he is making..You decided to help him with this situation..
Xingqiu : Dear Traveler, what brings you here?
Y/n : I— I just wanted to give creative ideas to your next book your writing.
Xingqiu: That’s really kind of you~
*You blush a little of his words*
(As you sat down next to him, you saw Albedo ‘s illustrations or sketches for the book that Xingqiu is writing. Another thing you saw was more books. You liked how he read books that you recommend and how he always studies a lot. Which shows that he’s a responsible person. And cares a lot for others as well. You always fell in love with his writing and how he expresses words into meanings or figure of speech you can say)
Xingqiu: I can’t seem to have ideas—
He looks like he has a headache of thinking too many things at once, so you wanted him to get break—but he insisted that he was fine..Untill—
Xingqiu : I suppose I can take a break for a while.. Perhaps would you like to go out with me to an restaurant?
Y/n : I would gladly accept the invitation~
(You and Xingqiu headed to Wanmin Restaurant

Paimon : As long, if Y/n apologize!!
Y/n : I’m sorry Paimon..I was wandering around and then suddenly I got lost and found Xingqiu..Would you forgive me?
Paimon : Paimon wants the new dish!!
(Couldn’t say no to those adorable puppies eyes again..)
As the three of you sat down at a table..
Paimon gets the senses that you two have the feelings for each other!! Like the way you look at one another!! Duh it’s obvious!!
Xingqiu: I suppose I should confess.. Ever since I met you it was as if you came down from the heavens up in the clouds.. Or you are the latern that lighten the dark roads.. I—

The storeroom of Feiyun Book Store is as bustling as the store itself. Employees rush in and out to meet the demands of customers, yet, despite the traffic, you’ve found a comfortable corner to tuck yourself away from your responsibilities. Behind the piles of freshly wrapped books, there is a tiny area hidden from view for boxes of damaged, imperfect, and vandalized goods. Everything is as still as a graveyard, and your back is pressed against the wall as these boxes act as your fortress.
The book in your hands is one of such books. Its once sharp tips are chipped, spine bent, and it will never find a home outside these grey walls, so you like to think giving it your attention, no matter how brief, is mercy.
It’s marked as a fantasy novel. Once, it was a genre on its own. There were thousands of books with a similar premise: a hero who seeks good and does all he can against evil with flashy superhuman powers, but it has since been clumped with the least liked novels of the century.
The story isn’t that bad, although it has not captured your full attention, and you perk up when you hear unusually loud footsteps.
The footsteps grow louder.
The second son of the founder of Feiyun walks past the tower of boxes. You raise the book higher to cover your face. The footsteps stop and a second passes. The moment you decide to peek, Xingqiu had to turn his head. His eyes meet yours through the slim gap between boxes, and as you sigh in defeat, he makes his way towards you.
“So this is your new hiding spot,” he says. You scoot to your side to make space for him. “Guess it’s our hiding spot now,” he cheekily adds when he squeezes beside you, shoulder almost touching yours.
“Not for long if you don’t keep quiet,” you whisper, narrowing your eyes because his smile is aggravating. “Was anyone following you?”
“I’m not a beginner.”
If middle names are a thing in the city of Liyue, ‘disappearing’ would be his. But that’s beside the point right now. Your new hiding spot of 3 days is at stake, and as large as the storeroom is, you’re running out of options. Plus, the untouched books act like a personal library which makes you fond of this area more than previous.
“Still, the moment you disappear the whole village looks for you.”
As if to prove your point, Xu calls for the young master. Poor Xu. To others, he’s the cashier of Feiyun Book Store, but everyone who works in this franchise knows he’s Xingqiu’s victim. When—not if, because everyone knows that the first son of the founder of Feiyun Book Store might not be reliable to single-handedly maintain the business so—Xingqiu takes the mantle, Xu will be promoted to Xingqiu’s secretary. It’s a lucrative and prestigious role, although debatable if it’s worth the trouble.
You tense, leaning towards the troublemaker till your shoulder collides with his. He doesn’t seem to care, both at your touch and Xu’s presence.
Xu doesn’t stop in his chase. He runs past the boxes, deeper into the storeroom.
Xingqiu nudges you, and when you look at him, he has the biggest smirk you’ve ever seen.
“I told you. I’m great at this.”
“You literally did nothing.”
“And neither did you. We work well in a team.”
You roll your eyes, trying to swallow a smile. Then, you return to your book. Whatever he wants to do is his business, but after a paragraph or so, you can’t focus. You look to your side, curious about the second son of the founder of Feiyun. He should have a book with him, but he’s busy scribbling away on a piece of paper.
He pushes it towards you, and you’re greeted with that familiar yet horrid handwriting. At least it has improved enough such that you can differentiate his ‘h’ and ‘n’s.
Isn’t that the book I recommended?
You take a glance at the cover, mostly for show as if you didn’t know. He passes you his pen, and you reply.
You probably noticed me here because this book cover caught your eye… I shouldn’t have read it.
He holds back a chuckle behind his hand. When he gives you a glance, his bright gold eyes feel like a warning as if he’s pinned down your weaknesses and will pick on them one by one, but there’s also a softness to them you recognise. It’s the same shine when he shares his thoughts on books and chivalry, on dreams and aspirations. It’s reserved only for Xingqiu—not the second son of the founder of Feiyun Book Store.
He slides the note to you, a new line written under yours.
You frown at the penmanship, needing to go through his words over and over again until you get a gist of what he’s trying to say.
Is that an unsold book? You know that’s not how you are supposed to use your employee benefits.
It was in the discarded pile, so it was already in this state before I touched it. I wouldn’t be reading this book if not for finding it here. You should be thankful instead of reporting me to your father. Either way, books here are so expensive.
We pay you well. You’re just stingy.
“Young master?” Xu’s voice echoes in the area. His hurried footsteps return, and it passes the both of you yet again. His desperate calls remain resolute as he dashes away.
You should really return. You give Xingqiu a long, hard stare. Scrunching your eyebrows for added effect.
That’s unfair. Here you are, enjoying the time of your life with a nice book. How long have you been here? I’ve only had a few minutes of fun.
Oh please. It’s not my fault you’re Mr Popular. Why are you here anyways? (P.S. I guess it’s been about 10 minutes.)
A lady wanted to ask me out for tea. (P.S. 10 minutes is significant… It’s still working hours, you know?)
Don’t you like tea? Why are you running away from her? (P.S. Your penmanship sucks so much I can safely ignore what you wrote <3)
“Actually,” you whisper, “I don’t think Xu will return. We can speak softly. Your penmanship is really hard to read.”
Xingqiu shakes his head, writes something down, and passes you the piece of paper.
I need to practice, right?
You roll your eyes but take the paper and continue the silent conversation. In the corner of your eye, you note how he’s entertained by your annoyance.
You didn’t answer my question. You write.
Xingqiu takes the pen from you and pauses. He’s staring at the paper.
Tea is not something to be consumed frivolously, and as a daughter of a high-positioned man, she should know that.
You have a few rebuttals to his claim, particularly on how he carelessly hands you packets of tea to try for a report on its taste. Something about gathering more than one opinion before he sends it to a famous opera singer. But this seems to be bothering him more than usual. He would have opened his own book and read with you if it was any ordinary day.
You know you can say no, right? In that flowery way of the second son of the founder of Feiyun Book Store.
He frowns.
I can’t. Even more as the second son.
He looks at you, and for a moment you forget he’s your future boss. Instead, before you is Xingqiu, someone stuck in a role he didn’t ask to be in.
You return your attention to the paper. All you can write is Oh. You aren’t sure what’s really happening. The world of the rich is a world you aren’t privy too, only that it is a cursed blessing.
He tugs on the edge of the paper, and you surrender it along with his pen.
The situation is complicated, so I won’t bore you, but I just need a little time to rest. Can you lend me your shoulder?
You squint, placing the paper near your eyes. His penmanship truly is horrible, but you’re acting this way because his request is preposterous! If anyone catches his head on your shoulder, you don’t have an excuse. Sure, you can say the second son of Feiyun Book Store is tired and just so happen to have chanced upon you as you’re neglecting your own duties as an employee of his future bookstore…
No, that’s even worse. You really have nothing to say to cover both your’s and his ass—except he probably doesn’t need you to reason for him. Still, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared, although preparing does hurt your brain as you wreck for ideas.
At one point you give up your act in trying to read his message. He takes the pen from your hands and your grip on the paper naturally loosens.
When the paper returns to you, you don’t have time to process his new message. He stands. Instinctively, you grab onto his wrist, only to realise what you’re doing. You release your grip and hide your face behind the paper, this time reading what he says.
I think I will make my leave. We do not want you to lose your job too early, do we?
“You can stay,” you say.
He smiles. When he sits at your side, you tap on your shoulder.
“For Xingqiu.”
His smile grows wider, and once his head connects with your shoulder, his breathing turns slow and heavy.
There are a few who rush through the storeroom shouting for their young master, but they cannot find him.

Ok so I was just listening to some Chinese instrumental music and i got this idea
(I'm gonna write in a very messy way cuz i don't have much time)
The time setting is like ancient Liyue or something.
Xingqiu and reader are engaged. There were like candidates for him and people expected him to choose another girl (I'll think about her later) but he chose reader instead. His family was happy his choice but some other relatives and noble families, especially the first girl's family didn't.
Reader is a soft-spoken and quiet person and i imagined her to wear a veil (idk why) Also her physical strength is a little weak.
Xingqiu and Reader don't really get to talk much since he's busy with his work but he makes sure that reader and him atleast meet eachother twice a day. Evening was their own meeting time, they would drink tea together or talk about their day. There are days where he still has to do a lot of work so he just calls reader to him or he would go to her with all his documents and stuff. Xingqiu would be doing his work and reader would be next to him watching him or doing any hobby she likes to do. As I've said, reader's body is a little weak and she doesn't like noisy situations at all so Xingqiu makes sure to be gentle with her.
Reader's family was very loving and they adore her a lot (she's the youngest in the family after her older brother). Now for the drama, their status is lower then xingqiu's and first girl's family. This was the reason why a lot of people were against this engagement. But they couldn't do anything because Xingqiu and his parents had already accepted her as family.
Reader on the other hand, knows that the other nobles don't really like her. She knows about what type of comments the other ladies would give when the see her at gatherings and events. Yes there are some ladies who like her a lot and they always cheer her up during these situations. But reader still feels sad, she can't help but feel like a burden for Xingqiu. Reader is a part of his family and if someone mocks her then that means they're mocking his family.
This is why reader tries to fit in with the other noble ladies and sometimes she does things that are out of her comfort zone.
Xingqiu about this situation and he hates it. He has told her a lot of times that he couldn't care less about what others think about them. He doesn't want her to be uncomfortable or sad. All he wants is for her to be happy. He does try to silence the people who says bad things about reader.
Now why did he choose reader?
(y'all can add any reason you want, mine is this one)
When Xingqiu was a kid he used to run away from his house to skip his study work. He would rather play with his bestfriend than do all that stuff. He would also sneak out from his birthday banquets because according to him that's the most boring way to celebrate his birthday.
It was the same thing for his 10th birthday, there was a big banquet held for him. A lot of unfamiliar people and relatives were present there (including the first girl's family). He was waiting for the right time to sneak out. Every year Chongyun would help him but this time he had to go somewhere with his aunt so that resulted in Xingqiu being all alone. He successfully escaped and went to a local market. Xingqiu always liked the atmosphere there, it was all lively and colourful with lots of stuff to buy. He bought some candy and roamed around the market, occasionally eating some of the candy. Suddenly someone accidentally pushed him, maybe that person was really busy because they didn't even look at xingqiu who fell down.
At first xingqiu just say there for some seconds because of the shock and then he could feel something stinging in his knee, he looked down and saw his knee was bleeding. He panicked, not only because it was paining and bleeding but because the blood could make his clothes dirty and then his family would find out. Xingqiu didn't know what to do and right before the tears fell someone came near him and helped him get up. He looked at this person and saw a girl, she seemed to be the same or year younger then him. They both went to a side where benches where made for sitting. The girl took her handkerchief and tied it to his knee, she told him that the handkerchief would stop the bleeding. The girl said some more words that xingqiu couldn't concentrate on, he was fully focused on the girl's face, she was the prettiest person he had ever seen. Xingqiu's focus was taken away when he heard someone call her. They both looked to the direction where the voice was coming and saw a boy calling someone and the someone was the girl infront of him. She quickly told xingqiu to sit there and wait for her to return with some ointment. Xingqiu saw her rushing to that boy. He was looking at their direction in a daze when suddenly he remembered he had to go back but...she told him to wait, he didn't know what to do. He had to go back or else his parents would scold him a lot but he wanted to see the girl again. Again he heard someone but this time it was not her or that boy's voice, it was his older brother's voice. He hurriedly ran towards Xingqiu and lightly scolded him but as soon as his brother's gaze fell down to his face his face was filled with worry. His brother slightly panicked and carried him saying words to assure xingqiu (it was more like he was assuring himself). Xingqiu wanted to wait there but his brother was already walking out of the market.
That was the first time he saw reader. Xingqiu tried to find you but he didn't even know your name at that time. His parents had told him about the engagement and he kept delaying it. At last he had given up the hopes on meeting reader and accepted his parents wishes. Xingqiu met a lot of girls his age, some who he had known since childhood and some who he had never seen. He was ready to decline all the girls and choose the 'first girl' (i still don't know what to name her) because she was the only one he was friends with. But when the meeting was held with the last candidate he was shocked, it was reader. He had remembered her face perfectly and he was sure it was her. The person that he was trying to find for so long was now finally infront of him, he honestly wanted to cry and hug her at that moment, he would've done that but he noticed that she didn't remember him. He didn't even wait for his parents to ask him about his thoughts and directly accepted the proposal.
And that's how reader and xingqiu's story began.
(i changed and added some more things here. Genshin writers are free to use this idea and they can change some of the details however they want. Just don't forget to mention/tag me. Don't pay attention to my english cuz I know it's shitty.
Thank you for reading this 。◕‿◕。

to all the boys i've loved before !
— genshin men receive your confession letter that you accidentally sent
he doesn't care (HE WON AT LIFE) - albedo, cyno, diluc, neuvillette, tighnari, xiao, scaramouche
His face, although one with his usual stoic expression was now screaming how God had blessed him and when you finally left, apologizing for the inconvenience and asking if he felt the same way. OF COURSE HE DID?! HE LOVES YOU MORE THAN ANY—
"Yeah sure you're okay I guess."
Nailed it. And as your flustered face starts to run away from him, he was now thinking what place will you guys settle in? When will he buy the engagement ring. You know, the expected. After all, there was no way he would give back the heart you gave him.
teases you to oblivion - childe, itto, kaeya, kazuha, lyney, pantalone, heizou, venti, xingqiu,
"Ho ho.... so you like LIKE me?"
He was hiding his red face underneath the words of teasing and fun. Yeah, he liked you back, but where's the thrill? A letter is just... well, a letter. He wanted to hear it from you, he wanted you to say it so many times for it felt like the blood to his heart. He needed this.
And although it may look like he was not taking your confession seriously, he does. Every word you said embedded in his head, and it's a crime for him to let you forget it. He plans to make you remember that silly letter you wrote at 1:43 AM for the rest of your life.
becomes a blushing mess - bennett, chongyun, freminet, gorou, thoma, capitano
When he read the whole thing, the happiness he felt turned to nervous immediately. What do you mean you liked him? Did the manifestations worked or something? Was he finally blessed with this beautiful angel after beng miserable for so long? YOU ACTUALLY LIKE HIM?
He wanted to party! No, but what if you decided to not like him anymore? After all he had many bad qualities. He was panting, frantically, the whole area heard it. YOU heard it. Will that make you like him less? Oh god... oh god... he was sure to admiring you from afar. But this?
"U...uhm I-I also feel the same way..." And with that he ran for his life.
thinks you guys are now married - alhaitham, ayato, baizhu, kaveh, zhongli, wriothesley
Oh so you like him? When's the wedding? He was now thinking of a designer for your wedding fits. After all, his partner deserves the very best. Do you want to be child free? Is there a need for him to make a planned parenthood account? What will your retirement plan be? Do you plan to be buried with him or separate? Thoughts like these raced through his mind.
The letter gripped by his hand, you were afraid to be rejected. And when you were about to speak and confront the silence he moved and folded the paper and put it in his pocket. Next time, it will definitely be a ring.
"See you at 5, sweetheart."

d3 . bookstore
# ... xingqiu x reader, bookstore!au, little bit of enemies to closer friends, 2k words.
& … cliffhanger / unfinished. at least, not in the nearest or near future. this was a draft i wrote for au august (2023 edition). the prompt was #bookstore. unfortunately, this idea was too large to handle & i learned a bit of xingqiu's personality that made me decide this story was not something i wanted to continue without major modifications. these 2k words are my blood, sweat, and tears of a total of... a few days, with the whole document (drafts & planning) being 3,939 words. so this draft means a lot to me and i don't want to delete it so soon.
“Where’s Xingqiu?” Xu asks, worry-scrunched face silently pleading for you to co-operate. Xu was busy doing his duty as a cashier for the past 40 minutes, so you can’t blame him for not noticing the stellar colleague has vanished.
However, you noticed.
Xingqiu has been missing for more than 40 minutes. (40 minutes and 12 seconds to be exact).
How would you know that? You’re more deserving of the title—stellar colleague—than that rascal. That’s the answer. Yet you’ve been starved from it for 2 months! That’s 2 books you could have taken for free! Your bag is void of a good book, and you do not appreciate it.
“I signed up to work part-time in a bookstore, not a day care.” You roll your eyes, crossing your arms to add an effect, but the moment the bell at the glass entrance rings, you straighten your back, clasp your hands in front of you and bow in greeting. The customer is unbothered, and only when he’s out of earshot do you glare at Xu.
Disappearing could be Xingqiu’s middle name if middle names were a thing. You aren’t against searching for that rascal, but the effort isn’t worth it when he always appears as if he wasn’t gone for who knows how long.
(20 minutes. He’s usually gone for around 20 minutes, not that you were counting. He’ll return just before the afternoon rush.)
To further dampen your spirits, beneath that customer smile he wears is a phantom smirk. After every attempt at finding where he went, when you gawk at him, his eyes gleam with knowing—he wants you to search for him, so his act of innocence is a declaration of his victory. He will never let you find him. It lasts for a second before you start to believe you’re hallucinating.
Xu has commented that you are more like Xingqiu than you think.
What a preposterous claim! You’re clearly the better employee because even if you might disappear sometimes (okay—you admit—you disappear every day the moment Xingqiu returns from his little “get away” because he’s perfectly capable handling the afternoon crowd with his lady-killer smile and dashing charisma), at least it’s only for a brief period of 10 minutes.
Xu must pick his poison, and personally, you believe you’re the better option. You have been for the past months as attested by your record of being the best employee.
In fact, you’re doing Xu a favour for tucking yourself in the storage room to read whatever book you managed to get for free that month. You and customers are not a good pair. You’d rather do things related to logistics—checking stock, ordering books misplaced by shoppers…
Shelf 910. A customer catches your attention.
You’ve seen him wander around the store a few times. He’s sincere in his love for books, although he has a habit hard to ignore. As he spreads the soft cover book open, you can practically hear its spine bending. He flips through the first 10 pages—this, you will admit to counting—and if he dislikes the book, he’ll place it back as if he did not just commit murder. If he likes the book however… he places it back as if he did not just commit murder, proceeds to take a fresh, untouched book off the shelf, and waltz to the counter.
You fume, turning to Xu.
You’re ready to report this sight to him, but Xu is not the person you should look for. He’ll probably brush it off that there’s not much can be done other than handing repeated warnings.
“You know what? I think I’d rather search for that rascal.”
“Be careful with your words,” Xu warns, wagging his finger. “He’s most likely going to be Feiyun Commerce and Book’s future heir—your boss.”
“When that happens, I will gladly resign.”
You twirl around and march off.
You look behind you to check if Xu notices you’re headed to the storeroom. He’s talking to that customer from shelf 910. You take a quick peak at the book he’s holding—martial art novels are growing in popularity—and decide you can always claim you gave up finding your future boss, choosing the most sensible alternative to look for a replacement for the book the customer just destroyed.
It’s hard to say if you want that future to happen sooner rather than later. Feiyun Commerce and Books is a large enterprise that pays decently, and they permit employees who work hard to grab a book for free. However, interacting with customers is not something you’ll want to break your back for. Perhaps it might be if you’re given a free book, but what’s the point in suffocating your annoyance when your rightful position has been stolen?
Sighing once the storeroom door closes behind you, you slide down and rest your head against the cold metal. Xingqiu didn’t care about titles. Why was he suddenly so eager to overthrow your plans? On the bright side, this anomaly of him disappearing for more than 20 minutes might mean you can claim a free book this month.
There’s a shuffle deeper in the storeroom. You grab a nearby broom, scanning the area for the source of the noise.
It could be a rat.
As you’re nearing your favourite spot to hide and snuggle with a good story during the afternoon peak, a familiar blob of blue hair occupies the supposedly empty space.
“Xingqiu?”
He looks up from his book.
“I was wondering when you’ll greet me.” He grunts as he gets on his feet, wiping his clothes to even out the creases. “I suppose the only reason you’re here is because I overran my leisure time, although I would say it was worth. The ending of this story was satisfactory.”
Staring at the cover, it’s the same book that the customer at shelf 910 bought.
“What are you doing here?”
He looks at you. It should be with an expression of confusion—you think—but he shows you a smile, one that’s different from what you’re used to seeing.
“This,” you point to the area he warmed with his bottom, “is my spot.”
“Ah. This is where you go to hide during the afternoon rush.”
“No! I mean, maybe? I mean, yes, but that’s not the point. You come here to read?”
“And why do you find that surprising? I wouldn’t be if you did that as well. Isn’t that why you try to attain Feiyun’s stellar colleague title every month?”
You narrow your eyes.
He smirks.
You’ve only imagined him holding such an expression—an illusion cooked in your head from his mien. Seeing him actually smirk causes you to narrow your eyes even more, the sight too… ghastly to take in. You don’t want to get used to it even if you think it suits who you believe is behind that perfect smile.
“How’d you…” you shake your head, dumbfounded. You wanted a peaceful moment away from the bustle of the bookstore, yet you find yourself a headache—not that you have one, although it is logical to have one now.
“You aren’t the only one who has eyes around here.” You feel there’s a double meaning behind his words with the way he tilts his head to look at you, but this isn’t literature class, and for the sake of your brain, you don’t want to read too much into it. Xingqiu takes a second to add, “I don’t think there’s any other spot to sit and read without worry about back issues.”
So that’s what he meant.
You put the broom aside, refraining yourself from using it to hit his head.
He gives a brief goodbye after handing you the book to take good care of it, and he’s out of the storeroom. Through the circular window of the door, you see his customer smile plastered on his face as he greets a man.
You eye the book in your hands.
The spine is in perfect condition.
Dang it. You forgot to tell him about the customer at shelf 910. Xingqiu would have known how to handle it.
...
It’s as if yesterday never happened as he does his task and you do yours—he handles the people while you fix the arrangements of books.
Xingqiu disappears, then returns just before the spike in customers. Nothing strange. Xu doesn’t notice, at least not enough to complain.
Knowing your presence isn’t required with Xingqiu around, you slip through the storeroom to take a breather and decide it doesn’t hurt to read that book the customer of shelf 910 utterly killed during your self-imposed break. You can’t sell it looks like a family heirloom with its imperfect spine.
As you approach your comfort corner, you notice a few pillows and half-eaten snacks. A note is plastered to the wall.
Only one person will do such a thing.
It takes you 5 minutes to understand Xingqiu’s horrible handwriting, and to save you time, you end up guessing most of what it reads.
Don’t forget to clean up~ We wouldn’t want Xu to know of our secret spot, would we?
You roll your eyes. Of course. He’s taking advantage of you using the space after him. You can see the devil’s horn in the way he styles his hair. He once said it’s natural. It only proved your point.
You take a bite of the finger food regardless. After all, it is your favourite snack. You’ve brought it to the store on a few occasions when you were a newbie to calm down after interacting with more demanding customers.
The book in your hands isn’t bad for the first 10 pages either. If Xingqiu says the ending is good…
You eagerly flip the pages on a mission to prove he’s wrong. Unfortunately, your alarm chimes to signal the end of 10 minutes, and if you want to grab that stellar colleague title, you best get to work.
There’s a customer at shelf 218 that’s in front of the storeroom. You’ve never seen her before. Her eyes sweep across the books, a look of disdain on her pretty features.
She raises her hand for assistance even if you’re a few steps away, persistent on staring at book spines that displeases her. You ready yourself for service, but Xingqiu beats you to it. The lady turns her head, a gentle oh escapes her lips when she realises who is currently attending to her, and you slip through the bookshelves.
Unnoticed.
Just any regular day.
...
“You know,” you say without much thought. It’s the weekend, and Xingqiu does not work on weekends. At least, when he’s not trying to steal your employee benefits. “I don’t quite understand why Xingqiu is here. He has a whole franchise to inherit so he doesn’t need to fill his day with needless work.”
To make matters worse, it’s not like Feiyun is known for its books. He probably will thrive in other sectors of Feiyun’s business; charisma enough to make an elephant fall.
Sure, the store has a sizable crowd during peak hours, but if three employees—or Xingqiu and a cashier—can handle the afternoon crowd, it says something about their sales. What sustains the company is their larger trade. Only in recent years did they expand to do business with books. Hence why their name, Feiyun Commerce and Books, sounds like the latter is an afterthought.
“He might be lazy,” Xu quips, almost endearingly, while counting the cash inside the cashier, “but he can be passionate.”
“You’re giving him too much credit,” you scoff, but when preparing to fire a comeback, your tongue is empty of snide remarks. You won’t admit it, but you’ve seen the way he handles his books delicately, and at first, you thought he disappeared during work hours since he hated his job—forced to watch over the new venture of his family business—so you were surprised to see him enjoying himself with a book in his hands. But really, you should have seen it coming after accidentally eavesdropping on his conversation when a friend of his dropped by during his break and he rambled on martial art novels.
Passionate is a suitable word to describe the way he runs things in the store if you want to be generous.
“As I said, you’re more similar to him than you think, and I bet he knows it,” Xu says.
You roll your eyes.
“He’s the charm, I’m just the cog. You can’t even compare the two.”

I’ve got an idea for an xreader and I think it’ll be a banger. I’m just kinda unsure who to ship her with.
You are what the people of Teyvat call a Wanderer. Not the person who’s referred to as Wanderer from Sumeru; you’re a creature. A creature who has sharp teeth, pitch black hands that fade into your skin color, and completely white eyes. You’ve seen many wars and deaths, the worst war you’ve witnessed is The Great Archon War as humans name it. There were times where you’d gaze across the land and destruction is all you’d see.
Until recently you didn’t know how you came about or why you’re here. But you stumbled across a fairy and a boy with long blonde hair that you felt drawn to and knew they were your purpose of living on this miserable rock.
