Been thinking about what Ashton's FCG-inspired vest might look like, so here is a sketch based on that! I'm not 100% happy with it and I feel like it should maybe have a quote from FCG on it or something, but I'm posting it anyway because not everything has to be perfect.
I did make a long sleeve variant because they need warm clothes for the journey to Aeor, but I don't think it looks as nice.

I want to draw your animal people! (in a SFW manner…!)
I’m waiting on an interview for a job that doesn’t start until October and I have like $500 in my bank account.
I’m happy to do work traditionally or digitally, and at any level of finish (sketch, lines, flats, shaded, etc) depending on your budget & desires. if you’d like a traditional piece I’ll send it to you in the mail without any additional charge.
my dms are open or my email address is [email protected]
reblogs are highly appreciated!!!

A bit different than my usual- I actually drew them in my own style! This show has literally been my obsession for months but I had been only drawing them in the show style for some reason

Its been a week or something since I started reading Shounen Note (middle school choir manga), and I'm almost finished. Its not a long series (30 Ch), but it has taken me longer than I expected to finish it. I think the topic is interesting, but the way it's told didn't particularly grab me like some other manga I've read. I will say though, that I really like the art work. The linework is really good (its an older manga so it's still drawn traditionally, and for me it gives a different vibe than some recent digitally drawn series imo), and I really how the mangaka illustrates the atmosphere around the characters

Page (4/14)
I wanted to share my process for my 14 page Nona comic, This got pretty long so the rest is under the cut!
First, I start by making a script, as I'm weeding through Nona I’m drawing immediate reactions. This way I don't have to keep track of action as well as dialogue. This is the most dialogue heavy page of the comic so this one has the most detailed panel break ups.
In this scene Alecto’s inner thoughts are my favorite part so I dedicated a lot of time figuring how to add them naturally. I especially love “The old man, Crux—the child Crux, barely one hundred years old”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once I have a rough, and I mean ROUGH thumbnail for the page I move on to creating a digital sketch.
Side note, you’ll notice I go back and forth from traditional to digital back to traditional. Having to fully redraw poses multiple times makes me really think about the action and what I want to include.
Thumbnailing is for figuring out panels. Sketching is for action and dialogue. I tend to show action and emotion over following all the rules of comic making. If you notice i break the 180 rule, but at the end of the day character interactions are more important to me.
Tumblr media
I redraw the sketch on comic paper in mechanical pencil. Again I don’t trace the digital work because I want the linework to stay loose. I just focus on lineweight and contrast at this step. The dialogue is written out first then I line everything else with my felt tip pen.
Tumblr media
I clean up the comic and replace the handwritten dialogue with a font I made out of my handwriting. This part is tedious but I really don't know how to skip it. My handwriting is too hard to read but I also need to make sure all the dialogue fits naturally, so that means doing it twice.
Tumblr media
My coloring process is really chaotic and can't be summed up in screenshots.
Crazy right? I am constantly adjusting, changing, and generally making a mess and then cleaning it up when I color. Often when my colors look off to me it's because I have a contrast problem, so I check it in greyscale.
If you want to know more I can share my brushes and techniques.
Tumblr media
And with that I’m done! And then I move on to the next page.

i just found your account and i'm so so so so so in love with your ocs and your artstyle and it's all just so AMAZING!!!! leave some swag for the rest of us fr!!
i've seen some of your traditional stuff and wanted to ask what pens/pencils you use to sketch?? and have you ever tried coloring/making finished illustrations traditionally?
i'm a traditional artist (i just fill sketchbooks and never make anything finished) and everytime i see tutorials for comicbook/misprint/vintage-y art it's always digital (probably because of the aging and editing possibilities). so I'm curious if you've ever tried it (or if it's even possible lol)
thank you so much for sharing your art with us!!
Oh thank you so much!! 😭
I do make lots of traditional art, and I looove working with ink. I gravitate towards Pilot fine points and Speedball for making comics, but really just experimenting with different ones on different media is the best :]
And it is totally possible to make hand-drawn misprints! Once you got your linework, get yourself some alcohol markers (preferably in cmyk colors) and lay them down individually in layers, staggering each color to one side/outside the lines a little! Also tracing over your lines with a different color pen gives you a chromatic aberration appearance, too!
Tumblr media
Also, even if you do a little ink wash/water color over your work, it can really make it pop! You can even add "stains" to the art that way...
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Also, lastly, solid blocks of color and linework over it reflecta the UPA style, which is SUPER fun to do with paint and pens!
So there's tons of ways to get your traditional art to look vintage :D I'm glad you asked, thank you!

[Image description: A digital image of a Black woman in the art nouveau style. She is wearing a flower crown of red and white flowers that match her dress which is red with white lace at the top. She is reaching up to pull back her hair which is blowing in the wind. It curls at the ends in traditional art nouveau style. She is sitting in a decorative circular frame. Inside the frame is a flowering tree with a distant mountain and lake behind it. Three decorative panels with a mosaic motif stand vertically behind the circle, making a shape similar to a keyhole. /end id]

[Second image description: A detail of the first image showing a close up on the face with the tree behind it. The flowers on the tree are white and the sky fades from a golden color at the horizon to a pale blue at the top.]
Tumblr media
This was a fun project! I used Illustrator for all the linework and base colors, and then painted into it on Krita and I think it came out nicely. This piece is based on some cool photos of @mens-rights-activia

ORNAMENT ILLUSTRATION COMMISSIONS - OPEN
Tumblr media
the basics:
- black and white linework - traditional ink done on recycled, toothy 24lb paper - usually 7”x9” or 9”x7” - base price starts at $300. Payment is half down, half on delivery - you get the original, jpegs/pngs and one or two prints of it
Tumblr media
I am very interested in and comfortable drawing:
- nudity - trans and queer bodies - historical interiors & exteriors - western weapons and armor (from the early middle ages on) - richly patterned fabrics (but richly patterned all sorts of things) - religious motifs - bdsm scenes & fetish wear (leather, pup & pony play, bondage, etc) - occult and esoterica - soulsborne stuff
I do not draw:
- underage or bestiality - furry art (yes, ik there's a small overlap w this in some fetish wear, but I do not draw fursonas) - anything sci-fi, futuristic. mechs, androids, machines, that sort of thing. idk how! - fan art of anything live action, or living people
Tumblr media
More detailed info:
‘Ornament Illustrations’ is what I call these highly-patterned black and white linework pieces. Base price for these pieces starts at $300 and goes up for extra complexity. There are no hard-and-fast rules to what is included subject matter wise in that $300. Most subjects (unless it's an orgy of 100 people and you want it drawn to 18" x 24") is gonna fit in a $300 price tag.
(This more simply put: I don't do the type of commissions based on number of characters & complexity of background.)
These are entirely traditionally drawn, and usually put together here and there digitally if I'm layering in patterns, or have a lot of black fill to do. I do not do digital linework or color.
I am not super inclined to draw a lot of fan art, mainly due to unfamiliarity with the subject. I'm open to discussing it however! Some prompts for a commission I might reject for reasons not shown here.
Payment is required half up front, half upon completion. Completion time varies, as this depends on how quickly you get back to me with reviewing sketches. It's usually about 2-4 weeks. I do have shit hands these days, though, and can't ink as much at once as I used to be able to. So my work goes a bit slower now.
Tumblr media
For your money, you get:
- the original inked piece - one or two high quality prints of the finished piece - digital files of the work
Please note that I tend to layer in patterns and background shading digitally sometimes, which means they will not show up on the original inking. That's why I provide a print.
I do enjoy being able to provide prints in my shop of commissioned pieces, but let the client choose whether or not they want prints made available to the public.
How to commission:
Email me at thornapplepress(a)gmail.com with your idea. It can be fully fleshed out—Hades as a leather daddy & Cerberus as a non-binary sub in 3-headed pup play—or more vague—something sapphic, intimate and lush.
I do my best to get back to commission requests in 2-3 days, but please do note that I don’t do email on the weekends to help preserve my attempt at work/life balance and my sanity.

(hands you a Yusuke (feat. I Took A Traditional Drawing And Managed To Get Rid Of The Paper So I Could Color It Digitally, And Also Some Mild Shading Exercise)
IF Y'ALL WANNA KNOW HOW TO TAKE THE LINES OF A TRADITIONAL DRAWING I WILL INCLUDE INSTRUCTION BELOW THE CUT (albeit . I Do Not Quite Know How To Instruct One Outside Of FireAlpaca Users)
•STEP ONE
take your traditional drawing and open it in your program!
Tumblr media
•STEP TWO
I'm unfortunately not sure how this particular thing works on other programs as stated above, bUT!! hit the select bar and choose Create Selection from Layer / Brightness! (it is recommended you have good lighting for this if you want the lines to be Extra Clean)
Tumblr media
•STEP THREE
copy and paste what's been selected!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as you can see, there's still visible paper, which leads to—
•STEP FOUR (optional)
duplicate the layer and merge them, then repeat the process a few times until the paper's gone!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
erase any shadows (as you can see above LMAO) with a soft eraser!
•STEP FIVE
duplicate the layer and merge to darken the lines—from there, you can color them with protect alpha/a clipping layer if you so desire!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and BAM you now have digitally-colorable traditional linework!! yIPPEEEEEE it can be very useful if you want to keep the traditional look, or don't feel like drawing over something! thank you so much for reading, have a wonderful day <33
