“I don’t need one Y/N” he says exasperated, neatly folding clothes to put into his go-bag. This wasn’t the first time they’d had this conversation but Y/N continued to insist.

So erm. Hi guys, first time sharing something on Tumblr, normally I’m the one reading all the fanfics but after reading so many talented people’s work I thought I’d try my hand at it :) hopefully it doesn’t completely suck, any writing tips and feedback is welcome and feel free to give some constructive criticism. I’m rambling, aren’t I? Okay I’ll shut up, Enjoy :)

It’s the same routine day after day, wake up, shower, get dressed and go out to recruit for Damien. The streets of Brooklyn aren’t exactly safe for a girl of 13, but hey this is what happens when a pair of inconsiderate asses sell their only child to one of the most infamous and dangerous gang of criminals for the cheap thrill of getting high. That clever son of a gun managed to bypass the security systems of the cities bank and make off with $5,000 and get away with it, and as expected the Црни лабуд want him to be our new “financial adviser” considering our last one double crossed the boss and died cause if it. It’s safe to say it worked, a sudden force to my ribs knocked me off the boy and back onto the floor, and then the fun began…for them at least I wasn’t having as much fun as the collection of shitheads, pain erupted from all over body, one jackass was constant kicking me in the head as the others hit whatever part of me they could reach. It felt like it went on for forever, but, in reality it was only for 30 seconds, before the boys stopped, I could hear the sounds of punches and the whimpers of pain as multiple sets of steps started to run away from me.

I tried to sit up, but those bastards really did a number on my ribs and midsection, the pain making me cry out before crumpling to the floor, faint mummers and a moan of pain could be heard but I didn’t really care about that. Summoning my last bit of strength I pulled myself up, ignoring my bodies screams of protest, the wall becoming my new best friend as I started to limp towards my objective, I managed to get about 10 centimetres away from the alley before a arm wrapped around my waist and held me up.

“Just so you know that was fucking stupid move on your part, next time let me save the punk” ,okay hold the frigging phone who the hell is this and why haven’t I pushed his stupid ass to the floor? quickly I shoved him and “walked” away from him, royally pissed off. “By the time you’d of got here to save him he’d of been 6 feet under by now, so go screw yourself” Perhaps I could have been nicer, but he did start it.

Miraculously I made it to the stairs and began to make my way up them, when once again a hand stopped me and I gotta be honest it’s really starting to piss me off, turning around to give this little bugger a piece of my mind, the words died in my throat as I came face to face with the blonde boy. Bruises littered his face and somehow his face was even bloodier then before, the mark from the kick was printed on his face and guilt immediately flooded my veins, “Ignore my friend, he doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut sometimes, anyway I wanted to thank you for stepping in there not a lotta people would be so quick to rush in and have my back. My names Steve, Steve Rodgers and the grumpy old man over there is James Barnes” Steve stuck his hand out as a greeting and offered me what I can assume he meant as a friendly smile, though the split lips did ruin the image. Slowly a smile spread across my face and I shook his hand in greeting, “It was no problem, honestly, besides you had em on the ropes, my names y/n and it’s nice to meet you, though I can’t say the same about your friend over there.”. The boy behind Steve or Bucky scoffed at me and walked off in a huff, not that I cared, simply raising my eyebrows at Steve, mocking his friends attitude he let out a sigh and gave me an apologetic smile in response, “Well I better go after him or he’ll kick up a storm, I’ll see ya around y/n” and with that he smiled a final time and ran off after his friend.

Returning to the task at hand, I let out a small smile at the thought of Steve before frowning, he was a good kid and didn’t need the trouble I brought, it’ll be best if I never see him again. I sighed before climbing up the rest of the stairs and prepared for the next few hours of hell I have to bring to this man, with those final thoughts I brought out my “tools” and got to work.

Okay honestly, I didn’t mean to make the first chapter so long, I wanted to provide the best in sight as to how this series will go, also the character development will be miles better in up-coming chapters. Thanks for reading :)

Alan couldn’t refer to it as anything else. The entire point of their mission to stop Dr. Richard Torres from polluting the waters of Lake Erie was a low case for the Mystery Men of the 40’s, and a perfect mission for the two rivals. A two day all expenses paid for vacation typically, except for the minor arrest and take down planned for six o’clock the second morning. Planted in a hotel about 30 minutes into Michigan was beautiful highlighted by the clearest skies Ted had ever seen and even with the hot and hotheaded broad he was going to be staying with. They had taken a train here, quiet for the most part as Ted stared out his window and Hippolyta had read over her notes several times on Richard Torres. Only sounds heard in the train car were the small whispers of the children behind them and the roaring engine and chug of the train as it skated down the tracks, passing through the state. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

When they had arrived to the city, he had given her a small pat on her thigh as they approached the station. Hippolyta’s glare had made him exit the train first. Grabbing both of their bags as their feet touched the platform. They were undercover, no needed for masks or bracelets as she wrapped her arm around his. Posing as Henry and Mary Troy; Henry for Ted’s fathers name- easy for Polly to remember, and Mary- just in case Ted slipped up and called her Polly. The last name came from the only Greekish word Ted knew, and Hippolyta had gone with it to not hurt his ego- despite the temptation in doing so.

The hotel was rather large, and Hippolyta had specifically requested with Alan for two rooms. Not wanting this to be any harder for either of them, he had agreed. Going as far as putting them on separate floors, leaving them two as far away from each other when needed.

After they both had settled, they had met at the bar. Whispers on when and where Torres would be between sips of alcohol. They both knew they had to watch him today, and attempt to gather more intel on how to bring him down at his meeting tomorrow but Ted wasn’t going to be upset if he left the bar with some hostess that looked a little too long at him.

Several times and trust me, she counted- Hippolyta had slapped his hand or arm in an attempt to get his staring under control. Maybe that’s what she hated about him, his boldness.

“You are disgusting.” She rolled her eyes as she took her final sip. “Just like every other man, Henry… You are a pig.”

Ted’s ears went red, his face finally finding hers as she continued her rant. “Maybe if you didn’t shut down when you needed to talk about your problems, you’d like men a lot more. What was holdin’ up on an island gonna do for you?”⠀⠀⠀

She blinked at him, sliding her glass forward on the bar and scoffing. “I know the man with murder charges is not telling me to give men a second chance. Better yet, a man who doesn’t even know why The Amazons are where they are now.”

His laugh angered her, and she showed it by her movements. Slight tapping of her nails against the mahogany bar as he continued to antagonize her. “I’ll guess. The scrape of the bar stool on the hard tile was loud, and she had stepped out. The blazer she had on was pulled tighter as she left the bar. She watched as he went to the elevator, pressed his floor and the elevator closed. Years and years of observing had shown her that he had pressed the very top floor, giving her and Ted exactly what they needed. ⠀⠀⠀

It wasn’t long before the Cat had found his way into the lobby, he had probably taken the time to finish off his drink before coming to find her. “Mary?” He had asked, making her look up from the journal entry she was currently writing for the JSA Archives, part of her job as Secretary. “Henry. After running our expenses, we could stop in New York on the way home. Pizza from Gio’s like we used to get in high school.” Ted’s expression was nothing short of confused as he sat next to her, reading over her shoulder but not making out any words as it was in Themysciran. ⠀⠀⠀

“Yeah, that would be nice.” He said, his hand found her thigh. It always did when he sat next to her. She figured it was something he did with every girl who even let him get that close, but Ted would never tell her it wasn’t. ⠀⠀

“The bartender was telling me about the event tonight, all guests invited. He might be there.” He had whispered in her ear, to a passing civilian they would look like two love birds attempting to talk in public, but his lingering and hot breath on her ear didn’t help the image. ⠀⠀⠀

Slowly, her head had moved to face his. They never really looked at each other, and when they did it was normally when they were screaming obscenities at each other halfway across the room during a meeting. “He didn’t break my heart. I want you to apologize.”. She whispered back, “and maybe I’ll go to the event with you.”

His eyebrow rose, a common thing for him, a cute thing for him when he was confused. “What did he do?” Just like that, that factor was gone, and she had pushed him away. His hand falling from her thigh and her rising off the small sofa placed in dim light far away from the reception desk. “Gonna run away again? Run away and start a new island?” He was standing now, she hadn’t even made three steps towards the elevator. “Why do you do that?” ⠀⠀⠀

“Why can’t you just apologize, why must you be so invested in someone’s personal history.”⠀⠀⠀

The position they were in gave no way for either to look away. The drinks had set in for him, and his boldness was showing again. Pulling her closer to him until her arms were pinned by her body against his, to the point she could feel his breath on her lips. They stood there, him essentially holding her. "Lillie, cue the lights and get the bride for me, thanks," you spoke into your little Bluetooth thing allowing you to communicate with your entire without disturbing any of the guests.

You watched as the lights dimmed down and the music began playing as the bride and her father walked up to the altar, feeling proud of yourself for planning such a wedding at a short notice. "Is that her?" Lillie asked pointing to a brunette girl that was waiting by the door. "I think so," you replied with a shrug, and got out of the car with Lillie following close behind.

"Hi, how can we help you today?" you asked with a smile as you approached the girl.

"Hey, I'm Tylah, we had an appointment today," she said, returning your smile as you unlocked the door.

"It's great to meet you, sorry if we're late we just came back from a wedding," you apologized walking in as she shook her head.

"You guys are fine, in your defense this was a bit rushed," she said and you slowly nodded your head with a smile and walked her to your office.

"Okay, I'm just going to quickly explain how the process works, is that alright?" you asked and she nodded her head, "Okay, so, the first thing we do is look into venues or places of interest, and we also write important things down, to go over things that the bride and the groom want. After that, we go to the venues to help you pick one out, then we get into the actual planning since we have a clear image of the venue, then we go dress picking if you haven't done that already, flower picking, and my team will take care of all the decorations, while me and Lillie go over everything, and stay close with you, by that I mean we do the rehearsal, choreographies, train the best man for his speech and the maid of honor, and make sure you like everything before we bring the plan to live," you explained as she nodded her head and listened.

"That sounds great. When do we start?"

"We can start the first 'phase' tomorrow, is the groom coming in?" you asked and she nodded her head.

"Great, you can come in anytime in the morning, and I will be here, do you have any questions?" you asked.

"No I'm great, we'll come by at 7 if that's okay?" she said and you nodded your head.

"That's perfect, I'll see you tomorrow," you replied, getting up from your chair to walk her out.

"Thank you so much for doing this after I called out of nowhere," she said with a smile.

"It's okay, thank you for coming to us. Have a great day," you replied before she left the building.

"How was she?" Lillie asked, making you shake your head.

"She was actually really nice," you said with a smile. "Lillie you can go home now, make sure to be here before seven,"

"Okay, thank you. Make sure to eat something, you haven't eaten anything all day," she said and you nodded your head.

"I'll grab something on the way home," you replied, walking away to grab your stuff, "Drive safe," you shouted when you heard the door opening.

"You too," she shouted back.

The next day you were up at 5 am, getting ready and eating breakfast to be out the door by 6, and getting to your office at 6:30. You were never a person to be late, you were always on time, or before time, but never late. It's just how you were wired, which is great when it comes to planning stuff. For every event you plan, you have a schedule detailed to the last minute, wanting to give your clients their dream wedding. The wedding you never got to have, for a certain reason which motivated you to give them exactly what they want.

"Good morning Lillie, you ready for today?" you said as you walked inside your establishment to be met with Lillie.

"As always, did you eat anything?" she asked and you nodded your head. "Good, I don't want you passing out on me, again," she said, making you shake your head.

"I won't, I promise," you sighed before walking away to your office and setting everything up.

"Y/N, they're here," Lillie said, knocking on your door.

"Let em' in please," you said and she nodded her head before walking away.

"Good morning, how are we doing?" you asked once you felt people walking inside the room, not taking your eyes off the computer.

"We're good, how are you doing?" Tylah replied making you smile.

"I'm doing grea-," you began saying before looking up to be met with who you least expected to see. "I'm doing great, just fine," you continued after clearing your throat. That was a lie.

You weren't expecting to see him again. At least not in your office.

His eyes stared at you, while you tried to avoid all sorts of eye contact with him, so you tried to focus on Tylah as she spoke about the things she liked, and what was important to her.

Her phone started ringing and she excused herself before answering it, "I'm sorry guys but I have to go. You don't need me anymore anyways. Grayson, make sure the things you want matches with mine yeah?" he said before walking away leaving you and Grayson alone.

And after what seemed like hours of silence, you decided to speak.

"So Grayson, what things do you like? What do you need to have at your wedding?" you asked in your nicest tone while looking into your computer.

"Y/N, look at me," he sighed, and you looked up at the ceiling before turning to look at him, trying to hide any emotion you were feeling.

"Listen-," he began saying before you cut him off, shaking your head.

"- Grayson, please don't waste my time. Not again. So please tell me what you like so that I can write it down and we can start planning your wedding," you sighed shaking your head.

"I don't know what I like," he shrugged, making you sigh.

"Of course you don't," you whispered mainly to yourself, "What colors do you like the most, flowers, what's your aesthetic, just something?"

"I like green, and minimalist," he said and you nodded your head, and typed it into the computer, and turned off your heart for the day, and the next 6 months.

"How about flowers?" you asked and he shook his head.

"None, after what you told me, I don't like any," he whispered and you nodded your head.

"Well, that was my personal opinion, flowers are not actually for dead people Grayson," you chuckled.

"I know, but as you said, they die, just like people," he replied and you shrugged.

"Yeah, anyway. Do you have any place where you want this to take place? And areas that interest you, for the uh- for the honeymoon?" you asked, the words, the words getting stuck in the back of your throat.

"I don't know. What did Tylah say?" he asked.

"She said an afternoon in Paris," you said trying to hold back a laugh as you read, "have walks around all the parks, and visit all the restaurants and clubs,"

"Let me guess, yeah? You would rather go to Australia or Hawaii, without any clubs," you said and he slowly nodded his head.

"I'll see what I can do, and come up with an agreement where you both get what you want," you added, writing it down on a sticky note.

"I'm sorry," he said and you looked at him.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean this. This must be weird for you, planning your ex's honeymoon," he said and you shook your head.

"It is weird, but what's weirder is planning a wedding and then having to plan another one with that same Groom but this time with the first bride's sister," you said, making his eyes widen.

"I'm not even going to ask questions," he said and you nodded your head.

"Yeah, it was a struggle, but it is what it is," you shrugged before closing your laptop. "Anyways, I'll see you guys after tomorrow to go and visit the venues," you sighed before getting up from your seat.

After Grayson left, you quickly called Lillie into your office.

"Lillie, you're gonna have to take over this wedding for me," you sighed and she gave you a look.

"What do you mean? Did you break the rules? It's too soon," she said and you shook your head.

"No, it's been broken. Remember the story I told you," you said and she nodded her head.

"It's him, Lillie. It's Grayson. And now he's getting married and I'm the planner," you sighed as tears threatened to spill.

"But you don't love him right?"

"I do, Lillie. I never stopped. That's why you have to plan it, I'll come up with an excuse as to why I can't do it," you said wiping the few tears that managed to escape.

"I can't Y/N, I'm sorry, she asked for you specifically, she wants the best wedding planner in the state, and that's you," you said and you shook your head.

"I don't think I can continue this. He left me after I had everything planned he left me, and I don't think I can plan this without breaking down halfway," you sighed before taking a sip of your water.

"Yes you can," you said standing next to grabbing on your shoulders to make you look at her, "pretend you hate him. Make yourself believe you hate him, even if you don't, at least until the wedding is over," she said and you nodded your head. "You never told me the full story. Do you want to talk about it, it might help?"

"Well, we started dating in High School, then he had to leave but we stayed strong, even after he had to fly to LA and go to Jersey all the time. When he finally moved to LA, we made it work, I was still in school and he was out here doing what he had to. Graduation came around and I got into Stanford so I moved out here with him. A couple of months later, he proposed and we got engaged. We planned our wedding all by yourself, and three months later he called it off. In his car."

Flashback:

"Y/N, can we talk?" he asked you as he pulled into his driveway.

"Sure, is everything okay? Did something happen?" you asked, taking off your seatbelt and turning to look at him.

"I just, I just think we're rushing a bit," he said, his words hitting your heart with a knife.

"What do you mean," you asked, your voice coming out broken.

"I think we should take a break," he said, his tone cold and bitter.

Breaking your heart with every word he spat.

"Grayson, you can't ask someone to marry you and then ask for a break. That's not how it works. You can't ask me to marry you and say we're rushing. We've been together for 5 almost six years, how are we rushing?" you asked, anger clouding your mind.

"Because I don't want to be with you anymore," he spat, finally crushing your heart.

"So why the fuck did you take me on a fucking date tonight? Why the fuck did you ask me to marry you? You don't lose feelings for a person in month Grayson. Why the hell did you ask me to marry you, and move in with you when you don't fucking want me?" you slightly shouted before getting out of the car, walking to who knows where in the rain.

That night you walked for what seemed years but was only a couple hours. You found a hotel and stayed there. Never wanting to see Grayson Dolan in your life.

You cried and cried. You cried until no tears came out. Cried until your sobs could no longer be heard. You cried until you felt nothing.

He broke you, for no absolute reason. He came up with a fantasy and shared it with you, only to take away and crush you.

You wondered if you've done anything if you hurt him in any way. But you just couldn't come up with an answer.

Mainly because you never did.

You did nothing but love him. You were there for him. Always. You stopped studying just to listen to his rants. You gave him advice. You tried to help him in every way you could.

But clearly, that wasn't enough.

The way he spat the words replayed on your mind over and over.

'Because I don't want to be with you anymore,' was engraved on your brain for months.

What hurt the most was the way he just didn't care about you. He didn't bother to look for you. He didn't care whether you were safe or not. He didn't care about anything.

Back to reality:

"That's fucked up," she sighed and you nodded your head.

"What's more fucked up is that I still love him," you sighed and shook your head, "I tried to force myself into hating him, for breaking me, for crushing my heart," you sighed laying your head on your desk.

"But I couldn't because, for the bad things he did, the good things outweigh them. Each and every time. Every time I thought of when he hurt me, I remembered all the good times, all the times he loved me. All the times he flew me over or flew to Jersey. But he claimed we rushed, but now he's getting married, a year after he left me?" you sighed and finally left the tears fall.

"I just don't understand what I did wrong. I gave him my all Lillie, I gave him everything times one hundred and that wasn't enough. And what hurt the most was the way he said it, "Because I don't want to be with you anymore," he said it so carelessly, so bitter, like if he never wanted me in the first place. Like if he hated me," you sobbed and she moved to the side to hug you.

"Y/N, from what you're telling me, you did nothing wrong," she sighed, running her hands through your hair.

"So why did he leave me? If I was enough, why did he leave me?"

"Because he doesn't deserve you. Because you'll always be better than he ever was," you said and you shook your head.

"And why does it still hurt? Why is he back in my life," you sighed sniffling.

"I don't know. But remember how you told me there's a reason behind every time? Then there's a reason behind why he's back in your life. And it's up to you to figure it out," she said and you nodded your head.

"Thank you. I'm gonna go home for the day, can you stay here today?" you asked and she nodded your head.

You went home and cried again. You cried in the shower. You cried as you made yourself dinner, you cried while watching a sad movie that you put on to make yourself even sadder, and you cried as you fell asleep, until a knock on your door woke you up.

"What are you doing here?" you gasped as you opened your door to be met with him.

"I can't stop thinking about you," he sighed and you shook your head.

"No, no, please don't do this," you sighed shaking your head. "How did you get my address?"

"That's not the point, Y/N. The point is that I never stopped thinking about you, I never did," he said making you sob.

"Grayson please, you can't do this. You're engaged, you're getting married. Please don't hurt me again," you shook your head, trying to close the door before he stopped you by slamming his lips against yours.

Your hands moved up, getting tangled in his hair as he picked you up, wrapping your legs around his waist, as he walked inside and closed the door with his foot.

He laid you down on the couch, his lips moving down to your neck, instantly finding the spot that always made you melt.

Your hands moved from his neck to the hem of his shirt, signaling to take it off, which he did, following with yours.

And piece by piece, all pieces of clothing were discarded and thrown on the ground.

"Ready?" he asked and you softly nodded your head. A gasp falling past your lips when you felt him push.

"Fuck I missed you," he groaned at the feeling of you clenching around him, making you moan.

"Gray," you moaned clutching on to his shoulder as his lips drew small marks on your neck.

And after all the bliss and good feeling moments, you felt disgusting.

Whatever happened was not enough to overpower whatever you were feeling about yourself.

"No. no. no, what did I do?" you asked yourself after slipping your clothes back on.

"Grayson what did we do? We shouldn't have done that, oh my God," you started freaking out before Grayson moved towards you and grabbed your hands.

"It's okay, she did it to me too," he shrugged and you shook your head.

"No, it's wrong, and did you just use me to get back at her?"

"What? No, I told you I missed you," he said and you shook your head.

"Well, you can't miss me. I can't believe I just did that, that's rule number five," you whispered. "Grayson you need to leave please,"

"What?"

"I said you need to leave. We've already done more than enough. This is not professional at all, and I can't risk losing everything so please leave, before you hurt me more than you have and before you hurt her too," you getting up from the couch and walking to the door.

"What about what you want?" he said, making you let out a sarcastic chuckle.

"What I wanted died years ago, and now I need you to leave and to never speak of this again,"

In The Still of The Night

Word Count : 1,232

Warning: Language and slight smut

A/N: Not too much of a Mental Break down this time which is good, but anyways I wanted to do something with the boys in the 50′s so if you like it I’ll definitely write more !

The summer of 56 on the boardwalk was magical, motorcycles, singers, and, "HEY YOU!" Marko, Paul, Dwayne, and David raced out of the record shop, leather jackets flying behind them like the wind. Elvis records under their arms as they ran off on their motorcycles.

"Oh, shit..." Paul mumbled under his breath.

"What now? Paul!" David grumbled.

"Where the hell is Tiffany..." he questioned, walking past a gang of bikers. "Hey, baby..." one of the T-Birds said, grabbing the young girl by her wrist, one of them hiking up the skirt of her dress, "Wanna have some fun with us, little lady..." his fingers wrapped around one of her curls.

"I don't want any trouble," her red lipstick lips frowned in a pout.

"Oh, come on, Monroe..." the leader of the gang leaned in his breath, wreaking of cheap whiskey.

" I said, I don't want any trouble!" She growled, vamping out at them as they ran away from her. Flattening out her yellow polka-dot dress, she stood next to one of their bikes, taking the keys and putting them inside her purse. "Shame I ruined my lipstick..." she mumbled as the rumble of motorcycles approached her way.

"You're late, you know..." she mentioned, as the smell of David's cigarettes flew past her nose.

"Sugar, we're sorry..." Dwayne sighed

"Hmmph..." Tiffany rejected walking on the sidewalk of the shops.

"The cold shoulder again, youch..."

"Not now, Stewart..." Tiffany sighed,

"I don't think they meant to -"

"Stewart, this happens almost every day. It's like I don't even matter. " she huffed, looking at her vampire companion, who was wearing a summer sweater that Marko made him. "Have you tried telling them that..." he asked, lighting a cigarette, offering one to Tiffany, "Between work and the sounds of hearing-"

"Hey, sweetheart, why don't you get with a real ma-"

"One second..." She pushed the guy in the alley, sinking her teeth into his neck as she enjoyed the sweet taste that was blood. Stewart only watched as he hesitated in joining in.

"Eating without us, Kitten..." David smirked, his hair resembling that of James Dean.

"I can't always wait for you..." she laughed, no traces of blood left on her dress, "Now if you'll excuse me..." she tried walking past, but David only blocked her path. "You're not going anywhere till you tell us what's wrong," he smirked, picking her up and placing her on the back of his bike.

"Need a ride..." Marko asked, looking up at Stewart.

"That'd be nice." he smiled.

Sitting in the living room of Max's house were David, Dwayne, and Tiffany. "This is pointless..." She sighed, crossing her feet. But both David and Dwayne stared until she finally pried open like a clam. "Darling, I'm going to ask again what's wrong." Dwayne sighed, getting Tiffany to look at him, using a few of his powers on her.

" Nothing..." she tried to fight against his mind tricks.

"Tiff..." David kissed her hand, "Tell us..."

"I'm tired of feeling like... like.."

"Like what?"

"Like Doris Day... she sighed, "Perfect and pretty..." kicking her heels off, "I wanna be a Lost Boy and not a Wendy Darling," she smirked, "A Dorthy Dandridge if you will." Tiffany leaned in towards David.

"Kitten, you'll get yourself hurt..." he kissed her cheek.

"Maybe I want to..." an innocence appearing in her features. "Maybe I wanna be someone else..."

"Dear, I don't think that's a good idea..."

"Stars do it all the time, besides all the good girls go to hell, and I'm a vampire. I already got my foot in the door." her hand on his chest,

"You sure about this..." Stewart asked, watching Tiffany throw an endless amount of clothes near his way. It was almost as if it were 1906 again. "I think the pin-up look screams femme - fatale." she shrugged, wrapped in a tight dark pink dress and pumps to match.

"You look..."

"Look... Like," she asked, a bit nervous

"Hey, Tiff, you coming or not!" Marko asked,

"Where you guys going?"

"Mo-" he paused, watching the way she walked over to him, pure seduction if he ever did see such a creature.

"Stewart, be a dear and get my motorcycle keys from my purse." she waved over as he rushed to get them, "Marko mon amour pick up your jaw, will you." racing to the drive-in was Paul, Marko, and Stewart who was riding with Tiffany,

The wind blew in her hair as she felt wild and free like the teenager she appeared to be.

"Tiffany, slow down. I'm going to be sick!"

"I'm burning rubber Stew!" she smirked, passing by Paul, who began to pick up speed.

"When’dya learn how to ride?"

"Taught myself." Tiffany smiled. As they approached the drive-in, she caught sight of two someones at the hot dog cart.

" Got get 'em!" Stewart cheered, wrapped around Marko, the two making their way to scare a couple for their car.

" I didn't think you'd be a relish kind of man," Tiffany mentioned, a cigarette in her mouth, which David lit up with his lighter.

"Tiff, is that you..." Dwayne looked in shock.

"In the flesh Daddy-O" she winked.

"In a place like this..." David smirked, watching her cough on her cigarette smoke, "You're supposed to exhale it, not inhale..." he grumbled, "Marko and Paul invited me to the passion pit." she smirked. Hearing Dwayne growl lit a roaring fire in her core,

" Invited you to do what exactly..."

"Like you, two would care." she rolled her eyes, walking away towards the car that Stewart and Marko had stolen.

"Did I miss anythi-"

"Oh... uh... this is..."

"You two have fun doing the backseat bingo." She blushed, the image of disgruntled Stewart now forever etched in her memory.

"Need a ride, sugar?" Tiffanys back stiffened as the hair on her neck raised from the sultry lowness of Dwayne's voice.

"What kinda ride are we talking about?"

" Depends on what you're offering, buttercup." David winked, pulling her in the backseat. Tiffany felt butterflies in her stomach, if that were even possible. A re-showing of the '30s monster movie hit Dracula was showing.

There stood Dracula about to bite Mina as Dwayne only groaned, he was never really a big fan of vampire films, they always felt too inaccurate to him. "How romantic..." Tiffany swooned,

" A kiss from an eternal lover..."

"Anyone could do that..." Dwayne grumbled.

"Then why don't you..." Tiffany pulled him close, her hand on his chest, while David peppered kisses down her neck. Dwayne tilted her chin, stealing a kiss from her rose-red lips. His hand crawled up her thigh.

“Dwayne!” She shrieked, as he placed her in his lap taking turns between him and David. Her back arching with every thrust from Dwayne while her moans were stifled by David's length in her mouth. “Good girl… Kitten…” David winked, his hands wrapped her hair watching as legs grew weak from Dwayne's thrust. “You’re doing so good babe…” Dwayne breathed out as the three of them only grew closer. “Oh putain right there!” her hips grinding as fast as they’d allow her too. By the time they had finished, Dracula had already died.

“ To die, to be really dead must be glorious…”

“I don’t remember this scene.” David smirked, sitting with both Dwayne and Tiffany under the boardwalk.

“Maybe a certain pink dress would help you remember better.” Dwayne hinted, holding Tiffany against his chest.

“I second that…”

Summary: Ethan and Parker have to attend a gala to help get funding for the hospital and Parker makes sure he doesn’t forgot how she looked in her dress.

As Parker got ready to leave the hospital for the day, a part of her was bubbling with excitement. Tonight Edenbrook was hosting a gala for the rich and famous in the Boston area. The higher up staff members were going to be there to suck up and woo the money straight out of their pockets. Parker was specifically asked to go and stay glued to Ethan’s side so he “plays nice” as Naveen said when he almost begged her to come. She could hardly wait to see the look on his face when he saw the dress she had picked for the evening. He was going to be knocked off his feet, and to make it better she was going to make sure the image lived on on her pictagram account.

Her commute from the hospital to her apartment was quick. She had plenty of time to get ready for the evening. Time to set operation Pictagram into action. Since Ethan decided to actually use his pitacgram to post shirtless photos, Parker decided that she was going to make him regret the game he started. She got ready for the night, and Sienna had happily agreed to take a photo of her in the dress she had picked out.

“Parker! Your date is here!” Jackie shouted loudly from the kitchen.

Doing one more check in the mirror, Parker grabbed her clutch and exited her room. As she strode confidently to the door, it took everything in her not to swoon. Ethan stood awkwardly in the doorway, her friends hovering around him. His fingers were playing with his cufflinks as he waited for Parker to make her entrance. Ethan stood in her domain in a perfectly tailored tux, and he looked absolutely mouthwatering in it.

“Thanks for getting the door guys,” Parker said casually as she made her presence known. She felt all eyes on her, but none burned quite as hard on her as Ethan’s.

Sienna gasped. “Parker! You look beautiful!”

“Thank you,” Parker said with a flush, spinning around in the floor length black dress. It was appropriate, but sexy enough to charm men for money and drive Ethan wild. The dress had a solid black short dress underneath it, with a long sleeved sheer cover over it. All of her skin was covered, but all eyes went to her legs that could be seen through the gauzy fabric.

Elijah put a fake glare on his face, “I want her home by 12:30 mister, no later.”

Ethan’s eyes widened, darting away from Parker and towards Elijah. “What?”

“Don’t tease him Elijah,” Parker scolded.

“Ah,” Ethan cleared his throat, “Are you ready Kennedy?”

“Let’s go rob ‘em blind.”

Parker threw a wink at Sienna, before she followed Ethan out the door and to his car. Walking side by side, Ethan glanced down at her and swallowed hard. This night was not going to be as easy as he thought it would be. The sheer black material kissed her skin. He couldn’t help but think that it was worse than her skin being bare. She looked powerful, the thin material flowing around her legs like she was walking on a storm cloud. She was not to be messed with tonight.

“See something you like?”

Her voice broke him out of his staring, making a slight flush stain his cheeks and neck. “Oh, um, you look decent tonight.”

“I’ll take that compliment,” a wry smile came across her face.

Ethan rolled his eyes as he unlocked his car, helping Parker in before going around to the driver’s side. As he pulled into traffic, he navigated towards the waterfront.

“You drove in from the bay to pick me up, only to drive back to the bay?”

Ethan's eyes looked over at her where she was grinning. “Don’t think too much about it. Did you want to ride the train in that dress?”

“I could have gotten an Uber.”

“You want to ride with a stranger in that dress?”

“You’re really focused on my dress tonight.”

Ethan mumbled something Parker couldn’t quite hear, but she was sure it was something about her legs. With a satisfied smile on her face, Parker opted to drop the topic and watch the city pass by on their way to the waterfront.

Pulling up in front of the Boston Harbor Hotel, Parker looked over him with wide eyes. “This is where the gala is?!”

“Only the best for Boston’s elite,” Ethan grumbled.

“Yeah, yeah eat the rich, but it’s still gorgeous.”

“C’mon Kennedy, wipe the drool off your face. You won’t charm anyone ogling at the room.”

Together they exited the car and Ethan passed the keys to the valet. Holding out an arm to his ‘date’ for the night, Parker slid hers through and they walked into the over the top hotel. A worker guided them to the event space where they were let in with a flash of their tickets. The ballroom was lit softly, tables surrounding a dance floor in the middle of the room. The walls were lined with windows, giving a beautiful up close view of the water. High up Doctors, nurses, and nonclinical works mingled around the room chatting up the other guests.

“Ah! Ethan, Parker! I’m so glad you’re here!” Naveen said happily as he made his way towards them.

“Dr. Banerji,” Parker greeted with a warm smile.

“Naveen.”

“Now Parker,” Naveen started, turning towards her, “I expect you to stay by his side all night. Keep an eye on him. You know how he can get.”

Ethan grumbled while Parker let out a giggle. “You have nothing to worry about. I’ll keep him on his best behavior.”

“Good. Then go ahead and mingle.”

Ethan and Parker started making a round around the room. Ethan didn’t do much talking unless it was about Edenbrook. It was Parker who shined. Ethan was captivated by the way her smile lit up her eyes and how she knew exactly what to say and ask the person. This is why she made the diagnostics team. A glance down for a ring and she’d ask about a spouse. If someone looked like they weren’t there 100%, she would bring up their work. She got personal with them, talking about her family or the hospital so they would bring up their own personal experiences. She would never talk as much as them until the end, where she would seal their donation. She was thriving in this environment.

“Alright Kennedy,” Ethan looked down at her with a smirk, as another person walked away from them to go look through the auction items again. “I bet you can’t charm everybody here.” “Is that a bet Dr. Ramsey?”

“If you can charm the person I pick to donate to the hospital, I’ll run the tests on the diagnostic patients for two weeks.”

Parker grinned. She wouldn’t have to run up and down the floors for the next two weeks? Oh yea, she could do this. “Pick my target.”

Ethan’s head gestured to a man talking loudly about an app he had created. “Mr. Guy Ledford.”

Parker eyed him up. He looked fresh out of a frat house, and from how loud he was talking he thought a lot of himself.

“What’s his thing?”

“Started some snacking app. I’m not sure, but from what I’ve heard he’s trying to get his image back after he lost an ugly custody lawsuit with his ex-wife.”

“Alright, stand back and watch the magic happen Dr. Ramsey.”

Putting on her best smile, Parker glided over to Mr. Leadford and gently brushed up against him. Ethan moved a little closer to them, picking up pieces of the conversation.

“Oh my gosh! You’re Guy Ledford! You created my favorite snaking app!”

Well played Kennedy, Ethan thought as Mr. Ledford jumped at the chance to talk about himself.

“You use Nomme?”

“Of course! I’m always so tired after work at Edenbrook. The only thing that gets me through my shift are the snacks picked out for me!”

“Let me guess…” His eyes scanned over Parker’s body, staying too long on her legs and chest for Ethan’s liking. “You’re a dolphin?”

Parker faked a shocked expression on her face, her hand reaching to hold on his upper arm. “How did you know?!”

Ethan rolled his eyes at her theatrics, but that was why she was getting more people to donate. She made everyone feel like the most important person in the room. Ethan on the other hand...if it was up to him to rally people around the hospital it would be shut down by the end of the week. Having had enough of her show, and knowing she would get him to donate, Ethan moved to the bar to refresh his drink. When he got back, Parker was in Mr. Ledford’s arms on the dance floor swaying to the music.

“Ugh,” Ethan groaned, watching her in the arms of another man. He should have gotten more to drink, he thought to himself.

“Ethan!” Naveen came over to him. “How are you and Parker doing.”

He gestured to the dance floor. “How does it look?”

Naveen followed his eyes to where Parker was beaming and fawning over Mr. Ledford. “Looks to me like she’s doing exactly what I hoped she would.”

“She’s good at it,” Ethan mumbled into his drink.

“Ah,” Naveen looked back over at his protegee, “You don’t like sharing her.”

“What!?” Ethan coughed out, glaring at the older man.

“You’re so used to Dr. Kennedy only having eyes for you at the hospital. You’re not used to having to share her like this.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Naveen chucked, giving him a pat on his shoulder before he was called away to speak with another donor. Ethan’s eyes stayed fixed on the blonde, making sure Mr. Ledford’s hands didn’t fall too low on her waist. He wouldn’t allow him to feel up Parker just to get him to donate to the hospital.

It felt like an eternity to Parker, but finally the song ended and she pulled away from Mr. Ledford. Flashing another smile at him, she thanked him for his kind donation then excused herself to go find a drink.

“That wasn’t dancing,” Ethan grumbled under his breath as Parker came to his side.

“What do you mean that wasn’t dancing?”

“I mean, swaying back and forth isn’t dancing.”

“Well it worked to get him to donate to Edenbrook. Enjoy your two weeks of running tests.”

Ethan just let a soft scuff leave his mouth, his eyes staying on the other couples dancing and swaying to a Frank Sinatra song.

Parker raised an eyebrow. “Sorry, the only experience I have dancing with a man is from my middle school dances and prom.”

“Well then you’ve never actually danced.”

Heat rose to Parker’s cheek. She loved to ‘dance’ and to have Ethan criticize her swaying got under her skin. She knew she wasn’t actually dancing, but she loved the idea of romantically dancing with a partner in a ballroom or around the house. She just hadn't found the time to take dance lessons yet. She would eventually.

“And I suppose you have?” She couldn’t help but challenge.

Finishing off his drink, Ethan held out a hand to her. “Why don’t you find out.”

Parker looked down at his hands, then up to his steel blue eyes. If she danced with Ethan, and he was as good as she thought he would be, she would never come back from this. Her stomach knotted, heart beating erratically as she delicately placed her hand in Ethan’s. A gentle smile pulled across his face as he led her onto the dance floor as the next song started, “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers.

Ethan’s left hand fell securely on her upper back by her armpit. Maybe she really knew nothing about dancing...she thought it was supposed to be on her waist, but she was not about to challenge him. He took her right hand and pulled it up with his as Parker laid her left on his shoulder, suddenly extremely nervous to be dancing with him. She had almost no experience dancing (besides swaying).

As if he could read her mind, Ethan looked down at her and said softly, “Just follow my lead and you’ll be fine.”

With the start of the song, his feet began moving in a practiced waltz. Stumbling for a second, it didn’t take long for Parker to fall into step with the handsome doctor as he moved them across the floor. Her dress swung around them, making the twirls look more dramatic than what her feet were actually doing. Ethan stepped confidently, leading Parker’s body exactly where she needed to be. Together, they looked graceful to their onlookers.

Parker was breathless, her eyes unable to stray from the tender smile on Ethan’s face as they moved together in perfect sync. This felt a hell of a lot more intimate to her than what they had ever done before. Just as she was getting comfortable with their steps he threw a curveball her way. Parker felt as Ethan moved his hand to her center back and pulled her body closer to his.

His mouth moved to near her ear, singing only for her, “Time goes by so slowly. And time can do so much. Are you still mine?”

“Ethan…” she gasped, heart pounding out of her chest. She had never heard him sing before and it honestly took her breath away. His voice was low, rasping softly against her ear.

“I know.”

Ethan pulled back from Parker, spinning her one more time before pulling her back and dipping her body as the song came to an end much too soon. The sound of distant clapping could be heard around them, but Parker’s murky green eyes couldn’t pull away from Ethan’s slowly darkening blue ones. It felt like they were the only two in the room until he finally pulled her back up to her feet and took a step back.

“Well,” Ethan cleared his throat, “That was a real dance.”

Parker opened her mouth, but nothing would come out for a second until a quiet, “Thank you?” escaped her lips.

Ethan nodded, walking swiftly off the dance floor. Parker was rooted there for a second until the next song started and she darted to get out of the way. Thank you?! God she sounded so stupid, Parker thought as she darted towards the bar to try and forget the tingling feeling where Ethan had touched her.

The rest of the night went smoothly, and Parker was happy to hear from Naveen that they had met their goal in donations thanks to the silent auction and all the schmoozing she and her colleagues had done. By midnight, Parker was yawning while she sat at a table. The only two people left on the dance floor were Zaid and Ines. She had never seen Zaid so sweet, but as he swayed with her, Parker couldn’t help but smile at them.

“Are you ready to head out?” a voice said over Parker.

Parker lifted her head up to see Ethan hovering behind her chair. “Yeah, I’m ready.”

Together they said a few goodbyes, then went to retrieve Ethan’s car. They sat in silence and they made their way towards Parker’s apartment, the radio playing softly. Parker looked over again at Ethan, his eyes locked on the road ahead of them.

“Where did you learn to dance like that?” Parker asked, her voice cutting through the song currently playing.

“I took lessons as a kid.”

“And it just stuck this whole time?”

Ethan shrugged. “That was only a basic waltz, not much to mess up.”

“Well I thought it was amazing.”

Ethan’s eyes pulled away from the road to look at the sleepy woman. She had kicked off her heels the second she got in the car and curled up happily in the seat. Her body was turned towards him, trying to fight off sleep and give him all her attention.

“I’ll have to teach you some real steps to make it more complicated.”

With how fast her heart was going, she almost told Ethan to turn the car towards Edenbrook to make sure she wasn’t dying. “I’d like that a lot…”

Pulling over on the quiet street with Parker’s apartment, Ethan put the car in park and looked over. Parker was half asleep in his passenger seat and he wished nothing more that he was in front of their apartment and he could carry her inside to their bed. He didn’t want the night to end here, but he knew it had to.

He put it off as long as he could, until he knew he had to go. Ethan gave her a gentle shake and whispered, “Parker, we’re at your apartment.”

Parker stretched out like a cat, sending a sleepy smile his way. Now it was his turn for his heart beat to go erratic. “Thank you for driving me Ethan. I had a lot of fun tonight.”

“I did too.”

They exchanged good nights, then Parker got out with her heels in her hands and went into her apartment. Ethan waited, until he saw a light flick on in her apartment before he drove away.

Ethan woke up the next morning a little later than he usually did. He didn’t work today and decided last night today would be his rest day. Reaching for his phone on the bedside table. He really was turning into a millennial as he opened the Pictagram app. He followed no one but Parker, so his breath hitched as her latest post loaded.

She looked just as stunning as he had remembered, but it was her caption that stole the air from his lung.

“Oh, my love, my darling...I’ve hungered for your touch a long, lonely time…” he whispered. The lyrics from the song they danced to.

He had never hit the like button faster than he did once he read what she posted. It was for him. Is this what it felt like to be in love? She wasn’t anywhere near him, but he longed for her touch, her smile, to see her eyes light up. Last night felt like a fever dream to him. He couldn’t remember the last time he had a good time attending an event like that, but Parker managed to make it more than tolerable. If she was going to send secret messages for him, he could do the same. He may not be good at voicing his feelings in person, but an ambiguous caption to the internet? He could to put a caption that could be about the gorgeous doctor that consumed his thoughts. He just needed to find the perfect photo from his father...

Clockwork

A/N: it’s ya girl, back at it again after OVER A YEAR of not posting a fic. I’ve been working really hard this year in getting back into writing, and I’d like to think I’ve improved since I last posted here. So, let me know what you think. Like, comment, REBLOG, I go feral for the last two. Also S/O to @writeyourmindaway whose custom line divider I used! Much love, in these oh so trying times.

Summary: Bucky x Female!Reader (established relationship). Reader is a part of the team, and endowed with the skills of MacGyver and a science degree. She’s also been kidnapped, disarmed, and locked inside with a ticking bomb. It’s not great.

You’ve got 10 minutes before the walls come caving in. Four red, white and blue wires snake around four identical corners joined by enough incendiary to turn you to ash. The door is locked from the outside and your previous attempts at breaking it open have proved both a waste of time and a bruising task.

At 8 minutes and 35 seconds, you’ve assessed the bomb’s components and begin to thoroughly scan the small bathroom. A wall radiator attached to brown metallic pipes, definitely gas fed, is beside the ceramic toilet bowl. It tells you that not only are they planning on wiping you out, but burying the entire building beneath flames and rubble. On the floor there’s cleaning bleach and a blue bottle of standard toilet cleaner. You grab one of them and put it on the sink. In the mirror-cabinet above, you find a small manicure pouch. Immediately, you pull out tweezers and a metallic file. There’s no trimming scissors so you take the nail clipper instead.

The impending explosion is the most immediate threat, so that’s where you begin. Using the tweezers you unscrew the plating, and pry open the metal casing with the nail file to expose wiring. Four wires, same sequence as the external, red—blue—white—blue. You snip the last blue wire with the nail clippers. The timer stops at 7 minutes and 1 second.

It’s not over yet. In 7 minutes and 1 second, the assholes who locked you inside with a bomb will be wondering why there weren’t any fireworks. Then, they’ll be back. You may be able to diffuse a bomb but your capabilities end at stopping an army of bullets.

There’s a knock on the door.

You stop breathing. Tilting your head toward the door, you listen closely and hear heavy pants. Inching back to the sink you pick up the bottle of bleach.

Another knock, this time followed by a tentative call.

“Y/N?”.

You put the bottle down. “Bucky?”

A sigh comes from the other side. “Fuckin’ hell. Next time you get kidnapped, try not to lose your comms.”

Tilting your head back, you let out a deep breath before moving closer to the door. “I’ll try to remember that. Can you let me out now? There’s a bomb-“

“Shit.” A ruffling followed by a grunt comes from Bucky’s side. “Move away from the door.”

You immediately scurry to the sink, as three pops to the door’s hinges allow Bucky to enter the small room.

His dark hair is matted to his face, drenched in sweat. His thick blue vest holds a darker spot on his left side, not much bigger than the size of a fist. Blood, maybe. ‘His’, you wonder. ‘Or someone else’s’. He’s grinning at you, skin stretched at the corners of his mouth, a pleasant image despite the huge semi-automatic attached to his back. ‘Definitely someone else’s’.

You smile back at him. “You took your sweet time.”

He glances at the left wall hosting the disarmed bomb and quirks an eyebrow at you. You shrug your shoulders in response. “Couldn’t wait forever, babe.”

Bucky moves to respond, but is interrupted by distant shouts. “New friends of yours?” he asks.

“Clearly,” you reply, nodding to the explosives. “Did you by chance bring some friends of your own? A small army, perhaps?”

“Not exactly. We knew you’d be somewhere in the area, but there’s about five industrial bases within a 10 mile radius.” He removes the gun from behind his back, reloading the magazine. “The team had to split up. Didn’t think you’d be kept here though.”

Which is exactly why he checked, he goes on to explain. When the others reported unoccupied spaces, he’d almost given up. Until Tony conveniently mentioned how odd it was for there to be a 3-storey colonial home in the middle of an industrial outlet.

You hum in acknowledgement, moving once more toward the sink. “My man, ever the hero.” You send a wink his way. You open the cabinet once more and pull out a bottle of clear liquid. “Buck, pass me the bleach.”

The thundering footsteps of armed idiots inch closer towards your position. Your 7 minutes are up.

He hands you the heavy container, and you immediately pour the clear liquid into it, screw the cap and hand it back to him. You move back to the bomb, detaching the C-4 explosives from the rest of the mechanism.

“Care to explain what it is you’re doing?” Bucky shifts to move closer to you, but you hold a hand up at him.

“Please don’t move. There’s some highly exothermic chemistry waiting to happen in that,” you point at the bottle in his hand, “and I’d rather it didn’t happen here.” You grab the beige blocks of C-4 with their fuses still attached.

“Right. Usually I’d find this really hot but, we’re on a clock sugar.” The group of Hydra militants have entered the bottom floor, and you can hear commands being shouted.

“Then let’s dip. Hand me the bleach, you take this,” you say, piling the explosives into his unarmed hand. You take the bottle and finally exit the bathroom meant to be your final resting place. Gross. You leave those thoughts for later.

Short static buzzes come from Bucky’s ear, as he presses down on the hidden earpiece. “Yeah, I’ve got her……. There’s too many of ‘em right now for just the two of us….. think you can pick us up from the roof?” Another final buzz and Bucky looks to you and nods. “Whatever you’re planning on doing, do it now. Sam’s ETA is 2 minutes.

Your assailants have cleared out the first floor, and are making their way up the second. You estimate 30 seconds before they find your position.

You shake the bottle in your hands and immediately feel heavy waves of heat permeating through the plastic. “Then this should buy us some time.”

As you make your way down the corridor with Bucky scoping ahead, you uncover the bottle and let its contents run out in front of you, immediately backing away and covering your mouth. Toxic white fumes escape and a small, but dense fog settles ahead of the spill, growing as more liquid evaporates.

The pair of you run towards the window at the end of the hall. As you reach your destination, a smattering series of coughs and heaving erupts behind you.

“What the fuck is that?!”

“Shit! Cover your nose!”

“I think...I’m gonna…gonna…pass-” followed by a heavy thunk.

Bucky turns to you, bewildered and confused. “What was that?”

“Really crude chloroform. Very nasty stuff, concerningly easy to make.” He gives you an impressed smile, as if to say “not bad”, and proceeds to break through the window with his metal arm.

Clearing out the glass shards, he beckons you to go first. You climb onto the roof and he hands you the plastic bricks of C-4 before slinging himself up to join you.

“How long till Sam gets here?” you ask him, squinting as harsh winds blow into your face.

“Why don’t you look up, sweetheart,” a familiar voice announces. You glance towards the sky and see Sam hovering above you, a halo of sunlight framing his head. A very fitting image indeed.

“Y’all ready to bounce or what?” Grinning from ear to ear, he lowers down onto the roof and engulfs you in a hug. “Damn girl, you really had us scared for a minute.”

“Only a minute?” You scoff. “Might as well leave me here then.” Smiling into his shoulder, you hug him back, happy to feel safe again.

“Please don’t. Let’s move before you don’t have an actual choice,” Bucky interjects, his eyebrows tensed but his light expression remaining.

“Right. Hope y’all don’t get air sick,” Sam grabs onto each of your hands, extending his wings.

“Wait!” You shout. Grabbing the explosives you ask, “Any of you guys got a match?”

You take the lighter Bucky provides you with and ignite it. You move towards the edge of the roof and burn the fuses of each brick of C-4, before throwing them into the broken window below.

Immediately you sprint towards the waiting men, and grab Sam’s hand. “Okay, go go go go go!”

Without any further delays, Sam takes off with a grunt, arms straining as he takes you three airborne. Not even 13 feet into the air do the explosions begin, the roof you previously stood on exploding in a fiery blaze. Almost immediately, the horde of enemies who had hunted you flee the house through the bottom floor. From your view, they looked like ants being fumigated from their burrow. How appropriate.

“They’re escaping!” You shout over the whipping wind, but Bucky hears you. He nods no, before pointing in the distance behind you.

Looking back, you see an ever distant figure breaking through the scene of blue sky with streaks of red and gold. On the ground, Steve’s shield knocks down a round of men in one swoop whilst Wanda’s red magic incapacitates another.

You look back at Bucky and grin.

“Man, I love you guys.”

“I brought you something.” Bucky’s low voice interrupts your star-gazing as he joins you on the balcony. You look back at him. Steam rises upward and into his face from your favourite mug (the bright pink one with a 2005 Barbie movie plastered on its side).

“Aw, you remembered,” you coo at him, grasping the mug between your palms. The hot air rises to your face and you sigh deeply. Your hands tremble a little. It’s been a long day.

“The colour’s hard to forget,” he grins. “How are you though?” Bucky stands beside you, so closely you can hear him breathing. You can feel his eyes on you, and decidedly ignore his question. You blow gently into the tea and take a sip.

The disgust on your face is evident.

Your boyfriend rushes to explain. “It’s Valerian root. It’s supposed to help relieve stress or somethin’…” he trails off. You’re crying. “Is it that bad? You don’t have to finish it or-,”

“No,” you turn to face him. He’s looking at you gently, calmly, like he already knows what you’re going to say.

You say it anyway. “I should be happy. We did what we were supposed to do, and nobody who wasn’t supposed to get hurt, didn’t. We got the bad guys, again.” You scrunch up your face, and briefly squeeze your eyes shut, feeling even more pathetic for crying. “And I got captured, again. Someone had to save me, again.” It stings. This is the second time it’s happened in this month and though it has little to do with your performance, it definitely feels that way.

“I didn’t get hurt, and I know I should be happy about that. Everything worked out in the end, but, god Bucky!” The tea sloshes out of the cup and onto both your feet. You pause to look down at the mess, then up at him, and you lose it.

Bucky quickly takes the mug and places it out of reach. Wrapping his arms around you, he holds you as you cry into his shoulder.

“I-I don’t even know why I’m losing it.” You feel palms gently moving across your back, and for some reason it makes you cry harder. “I-, we got out, we’re safe. I just-”

“Just because you left unmarked, doesn’t mean you left unaffected Y/N,” he speaks into your ear, hugging you tighter. “What happened to you could’ve happened to any one of us. No matter how much we plan, we don’t always know how our enemy is gonna react. You got out. More than once. That definitely counts for something.” He unwraps his arms from your body and steps back to look into your eyes.

Your crying has dwindled to tearing, but tracks (and a little bit of snot) remain.

He cups your face, forcing you to look at him. “If it were me trapped in there, I probably woulda been barbecue.” You sniffle. “Smoked. Grilled. Roasted.” He continues and smiles at the breathy laugh you give in return.

“Toasted?” You continue, giving in to his jesting. He moves his hand from your face as you wipe the remnants of your tears away.

“Exactly. Not to mention you’ve probably terrified them for life. Chemical warfare and an incendiary attack in less than 5 minutes? I’d be pissin’ myself if I didn’t know you were on our side,” he teases, grinning as you shake your head.

“You should still be pissing yourself. Valerian’s got actinidine, Bucky. Fly pheromones. That tea was so gross,” and with that, Bucky knew he’d done his job, at least for tonight. He could give you tonight.

“Yeah yeah,” he grabs you again and pulls you into his embrace. You weren’t gone for long, he knows, but a gram of anxiety niggled at him regardless. His worry and consequent relief was well hidden for your sake. But you knew. You always knew.

Lightly pressing your palm to his cheek, you lean in to kiss him, feeling his lips on yours in a sweet and delicate reciprocity. The air tonight is cold. It should be prickly, but it softens between the both of you. You let him know you love him, and how much you appreciate him. You also kindly remind him that he shouldn’t rely on every Google suggestion.

When you go inside, Bucky asks you about making chloroform, then gleefully interrupts you mid-explanation with another kiss. “You’re so hot when you science at me, babe.”

You fling a pillow at him and the night ends in love and laughter.
