You have the only correct opinions on minecraft updates ever and have better takes than the entirety of Twitter and YouTube. If it’s okay with you could you tell us about some more of your ideas about the directions for the updates?
Tumblr media
Hooooo boy that's a long list
Honestly I would go a similar direction as the original plan for the "Wild Update" but focus more on improving/expanding something about a wide variety of existing biomes, particularly incorporating "newer" features and blocks into "older" biomes
Oceans
Caves and Cliffs fucked up the oceans terribly, sad to say. I hate encountering a big body of water and not being able to tell if it's an ocean or just a flooded open cave.
Lakes and oceans aren't in different size classes anymore. An ocean should be bigger than a lake
The solution: keep existing ocean biomes but add a new "abyssal ocean" biome that stretches at least down to y=0. Below y=20 or so the light level becomes very dark, and deep ocean fish spawn. It appears opaquely dark blue from the surface
the ocean floor in all ocean biomes should be made of primarily basalt variants where there would be stone
Sunken debris on the dark ocean floor. Maybe just a box. A metal box, not unlike a shulker box, that requires a specific process to open, and has...Something inside. I want the player to realize that it's important but take FOREVER to figure out how to get it open
Clams you can dig from beaches, giant clams, and pearls+pearl blocks. Need I say more
cold biomes
Freezing effect is a threat in all cold biomes, when the player stops moving outside at night or when it's snowing, when the player gets wet in a cold biome, and of course when the player falls in powder snow
Campfires stop the freezing effect.
ICICLES.
ICICLES. They have been WIDELY requested and asked for by players. It would be incredibly easy to implement—like, just recolor the stalactites........oh, and when one drips on you, you get 5 seconds of freezing
People have also been begging Mojang for a cold/icy cave, and I agree. Ice! caves! with! icicles! To make them more worthwhile to visit, they should contain ✨frostflowers✨, similar to spore blossoms, except 1) you need silk touch to collect them and 2) they will only grow on blue ice
jungles
So, jungles should be the most biodiverse biome. They're jungles. They should also be more challenging to survive in
Pitcher plants. They hold water, like cauldrons. They are the breeding ground for...
...Poison dart frogs! Which can be used to craft poisoned arrows.
A Rafflesia "stench flower." Zombies are drawn to it, maybe?
other forests
Temperate forests should have random mossy patches. You agree. Reblog
Deer. One in five spawn with antlers, which can be several sizes; the largest antlers have a 1% chance of spawning. Any two deer can breed, but antlered deer will fight each other. Antlered deer drop their antlers after breeding. They would be fast enough that the only way to kill one is with arrows.
Songbirds. Like tropical fish, they would be a single mob with lots of colorful variants
arid biomes
A lush desert that has more plant life, similar to real deserts.
A scrubland biome that serves as an intermediate between savanna, desert and badlands.
Patches of thorny brambles that spread over the ground in scrubland biomes.
Some deserts should have red sand and red sandstone. Currently red sand spawns in a single layer in badlands and red sandstone doesn't spawn at all. It's awful
Other mobs
cave fish, to add life to the aquifers
catfish for swamps and rivers
Crows. Earn their trust by feeding them, and they will give you gifts. But harm one and all the crows start attacking you
Just imagine seeing the death message "[Name] was pecked to death by crows." I would be in hysterics
HUMMINGBIRDS.
General
There should be more potions. Potion ingredients are probably the best reason to incorporate Random MacGuffins into new structures.
Off the top of my head: if you wanted to do something similar to the Echo Shards but less MacGuffiny, you could put an essential ingredient to a Potion of Retracing in the Ancient Cities. It makes a glowy particle effect linger on blocks you've walked on recently, more intense the more recently
Add plants that function as medicinal herbs to remove particular status effects from you, while giving you a brief positive status effect (as suspicious stews do).
Fruit trees. Everyone has been saying this since forever. I imagine apple trees could grow as orchards outside villages, or occasionally singly in forests.
Corn is the best candidate for a new crop in my opinion. Corn could be more than 2 blocks tall, obstructing visibility and allowing for the construction of corn mazes. You could also make corn meal or popcorn with it.
But just imagine how terrifying it would be to be lost in a corn field and hear zombie noises around you
Structure updates
Updated mineshafts. Now instead of a single central room, they can contain several larger rooms that each have a chance of generating a vertical shaft above them, stretching up to 30 blocks tall, with the remnants of stairs. A fraction are "collapsed" and filled with gravel and dirt.
About 20% of these rooms contain piles of TNT, and another 20% contain piles of raw ores
The ends of mineshaft tunnels can also connect to small rooms with chests containing lanterns, compasses, empty maps, etc...
dungeons have several multi-roomed variations, a few have walled-off "secret" rooms, some only generate in the deepslate layer.
The one new structure I would for sure add: mountain castles. This is also a widely requested idea that no one would be mad about. They could be various in size, ranging from a single tower to a large intact structure with like a dozen towers. Some castles could be so crumbled they're unidentifiable piles of cobblestone.
the castle dungeons sometimes contain zombie villagers, and there are other hints that the castles were once inhabited by villagers.
there are a couple unique blocks found in the castles that can be used as villager job blocks, even though they don't naturally generate in villages.

A Strange Thing Called Love pt. 3
Tumblr media
Pairing: Draco Malfoy x Fem! Reader
Genre: Slowburn, Angst, a bit of Fluff
Word Count: 2.0k
A/N: So sorry for the delay! For this chapter I also added a tiny portion of Draco's thoughts. This is something I am experimenting and am debating whether I want to incorporate this in the future chapters. I still hope you all enjoy reading!
Parts:01 | 02

Chapter 3: Linger
A storm of dread drenched you for the past two weeks. Since that night at the Astronomy Tower, Draco has been avoiding you. That very next day in potions, he sat near the back of the classroom.  Whenever you tried to catch his gaze he would intentionally avert your direction.
It was preposterous the amount of times you tried to get his attention for him to simply turn a blind eye. Concern and confusion were only the few things that were crossing your mind as you tried to make sense of him. Nonetheless, if he wasn’t acknowledging your presence now then it was simply foolish to believe otherwise.
The night at the Astronomy Tower was the first time you believed you saw the genuine side of Draco, and it only made your feelings for him grow stronger. You have never seen him be so gentle with anyone, and you felt lucky that you were able to experience seeing that.  Feeling despaired, you thought maybe you scared him off with your conversation about the constellations, particularly the one where you mentioned that one of your favorites is Draco. Thinking back, it was absolutely ludicrous. If only you could go back to that night and prevent the words from coming out of your mouth.
But this is reality and to your dismay, the situation is more complicated than that. Grabbing the soft fabric that was hanging on your feet, you pull it over your body as your back lays flat against the stiff mattress. You stare at the nothingness of the dark ceiling until you fall into a dreamless sleep.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
The rays of sunlight fell against the parchment paper of your notebook that laid on top of your lap, the light bouncing back up to the leaves of the towering tree above your head as it reflected off each red, yellow and orange mellow sweetness. The light breeze brushed along the edges of the leaves, letting them dance happily. Waft of earthy musk reaches your olfactory senses as your eyes catch sight of the scenery in front of you. The placid water stretches for miles ahead while flakes of gold reflect on its smooth surface. Setting your notebook to the side, you take off your shoes and deftly avoid stepping on the loamy soils and rough pebbles hidden beneath the grass, each step bringing you closer to the lake.
Goosebumps crawl all over you as the icy water wraps around both your ankles. Lifting up your robe a bit higher, you walk further into the water. Your feet adjust to its temperature, and you merely admire the beauty gifted by mother nature. Inhaling a deep breath, you feel your diaphragm contract, as the fresh air flows to your lungs and enters your bloodstream before breathing out.
Looking back down at the water, you see your reflection staring back at you. You stay there for a moment observing it. There is a solemn expression; a hint of absence present on the once filled brightly eyed orbs. Unable to watch any longer, your hand reaches into the water and pushes it away. The image is immediately disrupted, and all you see are the vibrational movements of the water.
Going back to your spot you slump back down against the tree, placing the dark soft fabric on your wet feet along with your black shoes. Wanting to try and distract your pessimistic thoughts, you close your eyes and try to place your mind somewhere peaceful. A huge landscape appears, the vibrant green grass covering most of the ground as you lay down in a white, elegant dress. Your hands reach up to the soft fluffy clouds, all while a bright morpho butterfly lands at the tip of your index finger, its beautiful iridescent blue wings flapping against each other. A loud crunch scares the butterfly, propelling away from your finger to the clear air. Your eyes linger to the magnificent creature with its figure appearing smaller the farther it goes.
The calmness was interrupted by the sound of a certain voice, one you didn’t expect to hear so soon.
“Why is it that whenever I want to have a moment for myself I run into you?”
You opened your eyes and turned your head to the direction of the sound, his hands were placed in his pockets as he leaned against the side of the tree. The question caught you off guard, and to be honest you weren’t exactly sure how to respond to him. Instead of thinking of an answer, you grab your notebook and place it back inside your satchel. He notices this and stares, seeing that you were getting up from your sitting position and adjusting your robe, walking away from him.
“Running off now?”
Looking back, his hands still in his pockets with his steely eyes observing you. You slowly bring your hands to the ends of your hair, playing with them nervously. “I don’t mean to. I just don’t want to be in your way anymore. Sorry.” Right when you tried to walk away again he continues,
“Let’s just sit down for a bit.”
Your mind was shouting at you to ignore him and leave, but the beating of your heart was louder than that. Your legs made the decision as you slowly walked back to the tree you just left a few moments ago, now accompanied by the boy who continues to make you so jittery.
The two of you stay quiet for a moment, bringing the same ambience as that night in the Astronomy Tower. The large ball of orange hue lighting up the entire canvas above, resembling your favorite clementine sitting perfectly on an azure plate. There is just something so fascinating about watching the sun, and even its many rays have done justice to illuminating the person next to you, bronzing a bit of his naturally pale skin.
You hesitated to try and ask him, but you figured if you wanted answers then it was best to do it now. “Why did you leave?”
“What do you mean?” he asks.
Your fingers make their way to the flap of your satchel, carelessly fiddling the leather material. “That night at the Astronomy Tower. You just left without saying anything.”
The silence after the question drags on for a bit as Draco tries to think of a response. Truth to be told, he has no idea why exactly he felt the need to just leave. What he did encounter that night was a slight warmth deep inside his chest. It was very faint, yet it was there and noticeable. The light warmth lingered on until he left. He did not understand it. The hollowness that had followed him for the majority of his existence had slightly disappeared when the warmth crept in. Today the familiar warmth returns, lingering. The rays of light glistening on him were not helping either.
“I just had to leave.”
“Then why did you avoid me whenever I tried to reach out to you?”
Draco sighs, clearly getting frustrated by the question.  “Because we aren’t exactly friends and it shouldn’t matter to you.”
You didn’t want him to know that his response stung your heart, because in a way he is right. The two of you weren’t friends and that night at the Astronomy Tower was purely a coincidence. A coincidence you wished would be the start of something more.
But then again, why did he bother to stay with you just now?
“Why can’t we be friends?”
Draco looks at you, his eyebrows rising up as if the answer wasn’t already obvious. “We are from completely different worlds. Just because you try to be nice doesn’t give you an obligation to be friends with whoever you please. I consider you an acquaintance, that’s all.”
HIs response dumbfounded you. The words echoing back in your brain. He doesn’t believe that you were worthy enough to be his friend, which in it of itself was another stab wound to your heart. Gripping the shoulder strap of your satchel, you look into his frosty orbs. The golden rays make his eyes appear more glassy, his pupils rather tiny as the light gains entrance to his eyes.
“Have a good day, Draco. You can keep the quill. I don’t need it anymore.”
The sounds of your soft footsteps faded, leaving behind an ambivalent Draco.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
The unknown is something that always piques the interest of humans, wanting to discover and find the answers of the uncertainty that lies within. The mystery of the unknown had its own set of missions, and this time it had decided to target Draco Malfoy. The darkness would slowly creep up behind his back, its dark claws pressing against his shoulder blade while the small hairs on his back stood up making his heart pace abnormally fast. He had only started to notice the unusual feeling recently. It had been bothering him for a while, not knowing whether it was something that he had to fear. But he knows that he should not fear the unknown, as fear will only show him cowardice.
Trying to clear his thoughts, he figured a trip to the lake would help heal his mind for a bit. He sees a figure calmly sitting against the trunk of the tree. His feet tramped against the ground, stepping on the branches and twigs hidden from the tall grass. With a closer look, he sees that it was you.
And that same warmth returns.
The mountains of iced walls built in the exterior of his chest had started to melt off. The smallest bit of flame gaining entry into a passageway inside his heart, lighting up the darkness of the frozen land within. This warmth in his heart lingers for a bit as he gazes over your soft features.  This lingering feeling was so foreign. His heart yearned for more of it, and it beat louder and faster, signaling the small flame to continue lighting up the freezing darkness. Only then would the heart finally understand this strange phenomenon.
Unexpectedly, the small flame in his heart is quickly smothered by a snowstorm. The few parts of the ice walls that were melted off in his chest have regained their structure, now guarded with sharp icicles. The small flame surrenders, knowing that at its size it will not stand a chance in combat.
The coldness he is familiar with comes back, the feeling bringing him comfort.
He is aware of his callousness amongst others. So when you started questioning him about absolute nonsense, he wasn’t afraid to treat you just like anybody else. You weren’t anyone significant, at least that’s that he thought. When Draco told you that you were just an acquaintance, he didn’t think much of it. It was the truth after all.  A Malfoy shouldn’t be friends with you. The two of you are polar opposites; different houses, personalities, and most importantly, status.
He watched you become visibly upset, the softness of your voice from earlier dissipated. The tone in your response was stern, your fingers clenched the strap of your satchel as your eyebrows furrowed before turning and walking away.  A strange sensation swelled in his chest. It was a feeling that he didn’t recognize; it wasn’t annoyance or hatred. But it was something that bothered him solely because he has never experienced it before.  He believed that this feeling was enough to asphyxiate him, and for some odd reason his curiosity wanted more of this strange sensation; to understand it.
Now that he was completely alone beside the tree, the unknown darkness greets him as it creeps up again behind his back. One thing Draco realized now is that this unknown feeling would disappear momentarily whenever the small flame lingers in. And if he wanted this to go away and understand the foreign sensations he had experienced today, then he would have to reach the source of the flame.
Maybe this time the darkness will hide for good once the light shines through.

Wizard ghost intro post.
When haunting wizard island island, I liked it, so I decided to live stay here.
I currently don't have a name.
I died a few hundred years ago, became a ghost, and then became a wizard, and then became a demigod on the island.
All magic damage can damage me, and while I can't die because I'm already dead, the more damage I take, the weaker I become, and if I take enough damage I might be unable to fight or cast spells for a while, or even lose my ability to become corporeal.
I can choose what I touch and what I pass through.
These are the items I have that I want people to know about (I will add more):
• Piece of metal that is the same as a plank of wood in every way, except durability. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• A mask called "the mask of play", which lets the wearer win any game. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• A necklace with a gem, and a ring also with a gem, and if their gems touch, the wearer can teleport wherever they're thinking of. Received as a quest reward from Calleo for slaying a beast in their library's inner sanctum.
• 3 Invisible hammers. Stolen from Gnomus' goblins.
• Unused magic orb. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• 6 Invisible sickles, and 6 invisible daggers that absorb the wielder's emotions and brainpower to deal necrotic damage, but partially restores them when it's used to attack. Made from the claws of the beast that was in Calleo's library.
• Miniature sun that heals everyone around it using radiant damage, unless the regular sun hurts them, in which case this one will too. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• Potion of speak with plants. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• Potion of reverse fact, which makes the person who drank it say the truth if they try to lie, and makes them lie if they try to tell the truth. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• Gem that can be used to trap any incorporeal entity by touching it, and saying the being's name. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• Robes and hat that I can make incorporeal at will, the same way that I can myself.
• Marble gateway that converts ambient humidity into mana. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• Transportable rip in reality. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• Pocket dimension in a glass dome that has a village inside. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• Rune stone of heating that can be toggled, and can emit heat up to 20 degrees lower than the stone's melting point. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• Miniature binary star system. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• Card that gives the ability to control a small company of knights to whoever holds it. Purchased from _____'s shop.
• Red, green and blue paint vials that can be used to create anything painted with them, or activate any magic effect pained with them. Purchased from _____'s shop.
This is what I look like most of the time:
Tumblr media
I can create a translucent spectral "body" and become visible, or create a physical body, or create a spectral "body" that looks the same as the physical one, but is still incorporeal, but I probably won't for a while (OOC: I haven't made the 3D models for those yet).
This is a "Know your wizard!" sheet I did:
Tumblr media
(OOC: This is the first role-playing character I ever made, so if there's anything that you feel like I should include when editing, let me know.)

A somewhat older drawing, but one that I remember putting a ton of time into! Look closely - absolutely everything was done by hand, stroke by stroke. It's not representative of how I draw now, but I can't help but be mesmerized by the textured yet cartoony look.
== Read more commentary about this character after the break! ==
This drawing was one which was made to explore Lucida, which is and always was her legal name, as a character. Lucida is one of my oldest OCs (in terms of how long I've been drawing her, not her in-universe age). Lucida is a prodigy in magic and making potions for her family's business, but she's quite scatterbrained and naïve everywhere else. Notice the upside-down sign on the otherwise unrealistically-well-made-for-her-age wooden stand!
Lucida's design here is significantly different compared to how she is now. She's still a jovial little witch in a school uniform-like outfit, but other than that her appearance is completely different. Lucida isn't in any published stories (at least not yet), so there was a lot of freedom in how I could change her look, and change her look I did.
Tumblr media
-
I made Lucida blue because back then she was a mascot for my pages, but the old purple color didn't make any sense for someone with "Blue" in their name. Aizu's since taken her place and he's much closer to truly representing me than Lucida ever was, but I decided to keep her blue since it lent itself nicely to a more night sky like coloration, and I felt blue was a more unique color for a witch than purple. This also lead to the incorporation of crescent moon patterns in her overall look, but these revisions came later.
I also replaced the leech-like hat with a more traditional witch hat to make the fact she's a witch more obvious. The hat was always meant to add just a bit of edge to Lucida to keep her from seeming too "girly" (I want her to have cross appeal, in other words). Lucida's original backstory did heavily involve the leech, which kept her raging magic under control but made her a little... empty-headed. I felt it was too depressing for a non-horror character and like people were just kind of put off by the leech in general, so I decided to scrap it and redesign her.
Lucida's current backstory is much simpler and more lighthearted; she's a young, well meaning witch trying to help her family's business in making and selling potions. However, Lucida has a habit of unintentionally stumbling into or causing dangerous situations both because of mixing the potions and finding the ingredients for them. This makes people feel a bit uneasy around her, but she's genuinely friendly and also very cute so they'll usually ease up.
I haven't forgotten about Lucida just because Aizu's replaced her as the face of my pages. I have some pretty big plans in mind for adventures about her, in fact, so please look forward to seeing them!
-
By the way, there's also a Japanese version of the drawing I made for Pixiv!
Tumblr media
It's just a direct translation of the sign, "Lucy's Elixirs". Also upside-down, naturally! I didn't intentionally misspell the sign, though, so that was kind of lost in the translation. But if it's not grammatically correct I can call that a happy accident!

upgrade swamps. add better trees and new foliage. give me water hyacinths or give me death.
incorporate mud into the bottoms of the lakes. Bring Back Fireflies- introduce dragonflies with them as well. butterflies and moths, too. make bigger trees more common in forests so their both more realistic and easier to traverse. consider a rare biome called an ancient forest where all the trees are massive [think a jungle, but with less undergrowth and all the trees are oak.] add different undergrowth. add bushes and new grass like flowering grass and prairie grass and clover and ground plants. add more vine types like ivy and leaves like glowberries [wisteria? maybe.] incorporate moss into forests and add more moss types. make petrified oak it’s own wood type and add petrified forests. make jungles That Much More annoying to traverse by adding poisonous plants. add cenotes because they’re cool.
add carnivorous plants that can eat bugs and possibly produce materials from it [firefly = firefly glow, butterflies = butterfly dust, both can possibly be used as a potion ingredients, which could be justified since most carnivorous plants live in swamps. you know what else lives in swamps? yeah]. add more mushroom types. make some of them edible for the funnies. Bring Back the Birch Forest Overhaul [my BABY :wails:]. consider tree limbs that can be cut down with silk touch and used as barriers [around the same thickness as a wall, but they can’t connect to each other, though fences and walls can]. add birds to roost on said tree branches- initially they don’t do anything except add ambience [as they should], but perhaps they can drop special feathers that give effects to arrows [blue = speed, red = damage, etc etc].
bigger birds as well ; flamingos in lakes, hawks in the desert, penguins in frozen oceans. make them all tameable or at least able to perform tasks for you- flamingos can sift through the sand for treasure. penguins can fish for you. hawks can hunt for you. make it rabbits specifically, we all know how hard those are to hunt. you know what, add salt lakes for flamingos. add salt flats. add white beaches around warm oceans. add a rare white desert variant. add more flora to deserts in lush deserts or chaparrals. palm trees and oasises that grow special plants around it. add succulents- not just little echeveria but the big agave and aloe vera as well. add joshua trees and palo verde. make palo verde wood green, just to be special. add arches and hoodoo [these things] and various other sandstone structures. introduce gold panning possibly alongside archeology. add vultures that you can tame to protect you from husks [WHY don’t they burn in the sun. idc if they’re desert zombies. it’s horrible].
add desert poppies. no specific reason i just think they’re neat. add california poppies. make it so they only grow in a specific coastal mountain sub-biome. yes i tried to search up where they normally grow but minecraft is known for being hyper-specific about things so i’ll let this slide. speaking of segways, add yellowstone-style calderas. have them contain a special wildly alkaline water that has the same properties as lava, aka it will kill you if you try to swim in it. you can bottle it if you want to make potions with it. geysers also exist and can send you into the air, though they have a high chance of burning you if your too close to the hole, but you can use it to boost elytra.
consider earthquakes that can knock unsupported blocks down and open cracks in the floor, consider tornadoes and hurricanes that can flood holes with water and break weak blocks [i.e wool, leaves, banners, glass], consider whirlpools that are essentially just free moving bubble columns that are just there to mess with you. add puddles that spawn during rainstorms and underneath dripping water. add intentional seaside caves that have sand lining the floor. actually yknow what just overhaul beaches. make seaside cliffs look cooler. add beach-specific plants like beach grass and ice plants. more types of water plants- different species of kelp and sea grasses. add more ocean fauna. add ocean stacks. add special islands akin to the galápagos islands with weird ass biodiversity. add black sand beaches.
add volcanos and their sub-biomes, like volcanic fields filled with pumice and volcanic valleys with special soil and flowers and volcanic tunnels formed by old lava tubes. add fumaroles and crater lakes and hot springs. add ash and soot that functions similarly to snow that can also be found after a fire. add underwater hydrothermal vents that support special ecosystems. make the oceans deeper come ON bro. make it so it gets darker the further down you go and, unless you have a special helmet enchantment, you start to die from the pressure [ntm suffocation]. add bioluminescent fish like the stoplight loosejaw and anglerfish. add the blobfish but it actually looks normal this time. add rare bone structures similar to the ones in deserts and swamps that are home to bone worms and giant isopods. make it make sense by adding whales.
maybe even sharks. make them neutral like wolves. make some of them like nurse sharks or lemon sharks tameable, and you can use them to herd fish similar to cats and creepers. add whale sharks that you can mount though they are incredibly slow and can’t be controlled. add greenland sharks that do literally nothing except vibe. add seals or sea lions or walruses, which can be passive, neutral, or defensive, in that order. add otters that you can also tame to catch fish and collect treasure. add beavers that build dams and produce special new blocks that resemble broken wood and wood pulp. add grizzly bears. make salmon travel upstream. make fish breedable to produce roe that is a quick, albeit rather poor food source. add rice that grows in shallow water. screw it, sushi. add ducks that function pretty much like water chickens. add more fish to rivers like pike and bass and catfish. make rivers bigger btw. add lotuses and algae and water lettuce and duckweed and maybe even… water hyacinths, perhaps? do you see my visions.

I would also like to point out: all four of Ashton's rage abilities correlate directly to the abilities of dunamantic magic.
Orbital Decay pulls enemies closer and gives them disadvantage on any attacks that aren't against Ashton if they're within 15 feet of them. Graviturgy, the manipulation of gravity, is one of two subschools of dunamancy presented in the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount. When this ability is active, light seems to bend around Ashton's form and the region around their head loses color, appearing black and white, and gets a little darker; air becomes heavier and gravity's pull increases around them enough so that everyone in the room can feel it, even allies.
Temporal Morass causes enemies to slow down and lose their reactions if they're within 15 feet of Ashton. Chronurgy, the manipulation of time, is the second subschool of dunamancy. When this rage ability is active, blue and red after-images surround Ashton and their movement becomes erratic, as if they were slowed or hasted momentarily — an effect that's very similar to what happened to the Mighty Nein after Essek and Caleb used the dunamancy gem to give them all a long rest in the span of a few seconds. The effect is also reminiscent of echo knights and Resonant Echo.
According to CritRoleStats (to whom Matt confirmed Ashton's subclass), the other two rage abilities — in addition to the above gravity and time — are space and possibility.
Tal has rolled Space once, during the fight at the ball. During that, Ashton's head appeared to almost phase out of existence, and there was a transparency underneath the glass. It was apparently entirely useless during the fight, which I think could mean a few things: a) it relies on there being multiple enemies or allies, but Ashton was fighting one-on-one; b) it relies on Ashton being further away than melee range with something, which they weren't before they dropped the rage; c) it makes Ashton harder to hit when he chooses to use it (e.g. incorporeality) but he wanted this to be a fair fight; etc.
After that, he dropped Space and rolled again. This one, though Tal didn't name it, I think was Possibility, because the description didn't match anything else — the opal in Ashton's head started to spark up "like those little Christmas toys," and as they took more hits, it began to flash and spark more erratically. It didn't have any other outward effect, so it, again, could've done a few different things. But given how high Tal was rolling that fight, I personally think it gave him some kind of bonus to his attack rolls.
So. Gravity, time, space, and possibility — all basically tenets of dunamantic magic. So with that, and with how Milo said they fixed Ashton up with "some weird chaos fairy magic bullshit," it really makes you wonder. How far has dunamantic magic spread outside the Dynasty in the past six years? How far have Caleb and Essek's Aeorian explorations advanced peoples' understanding of it and what it can do? What else have they been able to distill or pull from the beacons, like they did with the potions in Yeza's lab, and how much of it has made its way south to Marquet? And why is it that Ashton's character art has their opalescent brain surrounded by what looks like a starscape?

Hii, I saw that your requests are open soo...Can i request an Albedo/Itto angst? anything that requires the reader to die or one-sided love? This is my first time requesting :') Feel free to ignore :D
memoriam || albedo
masterlist characters: albedo (romantic) & bennett (platonic) genre: angst contains: inspired by the v2.3 trailer with albedo and bennett, slightly implied alberose (albedo/sucrose) so unrequited love, death, (name) is a hydro catalyst user, and bennett being baby <3 summary: dragonspine seemed to hold a lot of memories, ones that you loved and cherished. those are the ones you would think about as you lay on the ice cold floor, the only heat source being the blood running down your body despite the people surrounding you. notes: uhh this kinda turned into a lot of bennett content?? but i like it :)) kinda wanted to incorporate both one-sided love and reader death just because that's one of my favorite angst topics to read??? i tried. also it's like 3:40am and i've been up since 12:30
Tumblr media
you weren't as clueless as he thought you were.
he always believed that he kept his secrets well-hidden, and he thought you were one among the others who only knew the albedo he allowed people to see him as.
if only you had stayed around for longer than you did.
Tumblr media
the day you met albedo wasn't out of the ordinary. in fact, you were simply another adventurer in search of equipment only found through alchemy.
bennett had been thrilled when his adventure team (which really only consisted of you and him) had been "commissioned". in truth, you barely managed to gather enough intel along the grapevine to scrounge together a mission. you were sure bennett gathered most of your scheme as well, but the smile on his face and constant jittering seemed to signify his joy despite the truth-lacking commission.
unfortunately, you were only able to secure this unofficial trip due to the fact that the commission was in dragonspine.
little to no adventure teams wanted to step foot in the freezing mountain, so it wasn't hard to imagine how many commissions were left to rot there.
luckily, your leader had a pyro vision that could easily warm the two of you up. but, of course, you insisted on bringing warming and cryo resistance potions just in case.
despite the numerous trips to the alchemy table, you had never seen the man sorting through the bookshelves behind it. you had met timaeus plenty of times, namely listening to his rambles as you collected your alchemic recipes.
you had also met sucrose, the quiet bio-alchemist who stammered her way through explanations. but never once had you met the light blond man with a golden star painted on his neck.
he watched with careful eyes as you began crushing and mixing crystal cores and mist flowers into a small bottle, creating light blue concoctions that swirled with glimmering turquoise speckles flying up.
he had introduced himself as albedo that day before you could leave. you had heard his name by word of mouth, specifically by the knights of favonius. you knew his name as the chief alchemist of the knights, a distant and mysterious individual that was almost never seen amongst the "common folk" as some knights so lovingly called you.
"i heard that you were on your way to dragonspine," he had called as you turned on your heels to leave. "i can lead you through it, at least until we hit my camp."
it was a welcome offer. neither you nor bennett had been on the mountain and the gods knew that there was a high chance one or neither of you would make it back alive.
that was your first encounter with the man.
Tumblr media
your second encounter had been a few days later when bennett and you barely managed to escape the incoming blizzard. your mission had gone off with... mostly no hitch. of course, there was the expected troubles caused by bennett's unfortunate luck, but that was always to be expected.
you tried your best to reassure the boy that the storm was not his fault. you were glad you didn't have to do much of it when the two of you stumbled upon albedo's camp, which he had shown you on your first day in the mountains.
"ah, (name), bennett," he had hummed upon seeing your snow-covered forms enter the firelit campsite. his eyes scanned over your shivering forms for a moment before he beckoned the two of you closer, helping you to gather around a small fire. "i'm amazed the two of you escaped the blizzard."
"just b-barely," bennett pointed out, rubbing his arms as the fire began to thaw the snow from his skin. perhaps it was because of his pyro vision, but bennett had found himself warming up faster than you. watching you shiver beside him, he wrapped one of his warmer arms around you in an effort to aid in your recovery.
"thanks, albedo," you managed to whisper, glancing at the alchemist over your shoulder.
"no need for thanks," he responded, simply shaking his head. "if you want to express your gratitude, however... i believe a few tests should suffice."
he had gathered data from the two of you in exchange for refuge that night. he gathered data on bennett's mysterious luck, or lack thereof, as well as your strange resistance to a majority of it.
you weren't sure why, but this one-off data collection session soon became a routine the three of you would follow until the end.
Tumblr media
you cherished those moments. the moments where albedo dedicated all of his attention to you and you alone (mainly because bennett needed rest after exerting all of his bad luck). you found yourself watching albedo silently paint on his canvas, his paintbrush dancing along its surface as color splotches the area.
you always looked forward to these sessions, until--
"ah, (name)! bennett!" sucrose called out to you two as you neared the city's gate. she leaped down the stairs before skidding to a halt beside you, nearly tripping over her own feet and the cracks in the concrete.
"good morning, sucrose!" bennett greeted excitedly, followed by your own cheerful greeting.
"you're both going to dragonspine, right? to find albedo?" sucrose heaved, pushing her glasses up as they rested on the tip of her nose. "do you mind if i go with you? he said he wanted my opinion on something."
oh.
you weren't going to reject her, obviously, but you were able to piece together what was happening.
your once beloved moments of solitude with albedo would be tarnished as sucrose worked beside you three.
and you were right.
you found yourself drifting further from the man you enjoyed being around, opting to look after bennett as he curled up around one of the fires in the small cave. your eyes would drift back towards the camp every so often, watching as sucrose and albedo quietly conversed with each other huddled around the alchemy table.
you knew why you felt like this.
you just preferred not to admit it.
Tumblr media
your "third" encounter was the last one you remembered fondly.
sucrose had been occupied with her own experimentation project, so it was back to your small group of three. a few hours into the data collection, bennett had managed to tucker himself out and passed out beside the fire, his body curled into itself as he let out quiet snores and mumbled words.
you had allowed yourself to tear away from bennett's side, accompanying albedo as he sorted his findings on the board and desk beside him.
you worked in silence for a few minutes, simply reveling in the other's presence as you sorted through diagrams and graphs centered around bennett.
until you found one buried beneath the others.
a simple drawing of you gazing off into the white snow, a small cryo crystalfly fluttering in front of your eyes. bennett was sprawled out over your lap, his face buried in your stomach and his hand gripping onto your shirt. snowflakes danced around your form, nestling in your hair to create small sparkling stars in your (h/color) locks.
albedo, sensing the pause in your movements, glanced over only to find the drawing in your hands. he paused for a moment, just as you had when you first uncovered the illustration. without another word, he reached over and plucked the paper from your hand, walking over to his canvas and clipping it to the top, something he did with reference photos in the past.
"that picture is... irrelevant to our investigation," was all he said, retreating into his silent shell as he continued to sort through his files about bennett.
you had hoped that you would get to see that drawing again, perhaps a finished portrait like the ones you had seen about others, such as the traveler, kaeya, jean, lisa, klee.
and sucrose.
... maybe that's too much to ask.
Tumblr media
your encounters with the ash blond alchemist were ones you promised to cherish.
after all, he was the first person you had found yourself falling for after such mundane things. it felt nostalgic, a familiar feeling of domestic life you craved for after your time adventuring.
of course, you knew albedo wasn't "normal" in the traditional sense.
aside from his strange fascination with spider-based meals and differences in otherworldly creatures, he was hiding something.
there were times where you caught him muttering to himself, mumbling about control and a need for someone to stop him.
you weren't stupid. you were quite observant, something that came as a bonus for handling bennett's unluckiness during your commissions.
you always noticed the days where albedo didn't feel like himself. the days where he felt more closed off than usual. the days where he tried everything to restrain himself before something happened.
his hands would always shake. his breathing, which already seemed shallow, would grow thinner with each intake of air he took. his lips would twitch every so often. his eyes would go wide. his vision would seem to change colors.
everything about him always seemed to transform during those days.
and this must have been what he was trying to conceal for so long.
"albedo, what the devil do you think you are doing?" eula, who you had met with on your routine trek up the mountain, cried out as albedo floated in the air. albedo only responded with a dull chuckle, one that resonated in his chest. a smirk was plastered on his face as he reeled back his arm, slicing it forward to hurl sharp cryo shards down to the earth.
eula guarded herself with her sword while bennett dodged the large ice walls blocking his way. he raised his sword and slammed it into the ground, generating a pyro circle on the floor that melted the ice albedo sent down. albedo had plummeted to the ground at that moment, his eyes downcast as he slowly pushed himself up.
your weapon floated above your hand, the small gem you cherished with your body and soul twirling around in the center of the rest of the object. your hydro vision gleamed as bennett's fire cast light upon it.
you two had always been a perfect match, your hydro and pyro visions complimenting each other. you were always there to support him, ensuring his safety as he literally played with fire.
you never were a match for a dragonspine fight, especially against a geo and temporary cryo user.
"albedo!" you cried out, readying yourself as you watched him twitch. "what the hell is wrong with you?! snap out of it!"
he once again responded with a dull chuckle, drawing his sword. the snowflake circle slowly spun around him, glowing every so often as if...
as if he was charging something.
your eyes flickered behind you, eyeing your allies that all stood with you. eula was shivering, no thanks to her cryo vision and short uniform. amber was a bit better off, only being hindered by her shorts but being protected by her pyro vision. bennett was only a bit worse, more accustomed to the dragonspine chill due to your constant trips there. the traveler didn't seem bothered either, returning with a golden glow after their venture to liyue.
when you looked back down at your hands, you noticed the subtle frost creeping up your fingers. the tips of them had been frozen, a result of your hydro vision clinging to your body and freezing under the harsh conditions.
as you looked back up, you realized the snowflake pattern had been glowing at its brightest, causing albedo to slowly raise his hand. you looked back over at your companions, noting their heavy breathing as their chests moved erratically. you managed to swallow your spit building in your mouth, your chest aching as you realized the situation you had found yourself in.
your friends were getting tired, the sheer cold affecting their bodies immensely.
the only way you could guarantee their safety would be...
you were willing to take that chance. if they were still capable, they would be able to save you.
or at least, that's what you thought.
once albedo brought his hand close to his opposite shoulder, you extended your arms out as if you were protecting the people behind you, your catalyst twirling in response to your command.
your hydro vision formed a wall of water in front of them, immediately freezing from the bottom up as it fell on the icy floor, bennett's pyro field dissipating only moments prior.
"(name)!" you heard bennett call out to you. you could tell he had stepped around the wall, ready to stand by your side to face albedo's attack head on.
oh how you wished he hadn't. you wish he had stayed behind the barrier you provided at that very moment.
then, he wouldn't have to see the devastating blow that landed on you.
albedo had summoned a geo construct behind you, one you had never seen until now. it was unlike the rising and falling flower you grew to love.
his newly acquired cryo powers were what dealt the real damage, large ice spikes skewering your body and pinning you to the construct behind you. you let out a harsh cry as blood immediately shot out from your mouth, staining the ground in front of you.
you managed to crane your neck to look at bennett, who had been staring at you with wide eyes. his jaw had dropped along with his sword, his hands shaking as he forced himself to run towards you. he turned his back to albedo, knowing the others had already ran around the wall after he did to deal with the deranged alchemist.
"(name)... c-come on," he whimpered, tearing off his gloves as he placed his hands over the ice shards. he activated his pyro vision, something you had warned him not to do countless times before without his sword. but at that moment, he didn't care. he would give anything to hear you scold him about burning his palms.
"i-i got you, you're okay," he cried, wildly moving his hands to melt away the spikes pinning you to what would have been your cross.
you didn't have the energy to tell him to stop. or to tell him anything, for that matter. you simply let him remove the shards, knowing full well that it would take a miracle to heal you.
bennett had already used his pyro field, after all. something that would have healed you for a few moments.
you didn't know how long it took him, but you knew it was the amount of time needed to take down albedo and seemingly return him to normal.
although, by the time they had rushed back over to you, you were already out of it.
your glazed eyes stared up at the sky, looking just like they did in the picture you found buried with bennett's diagrams. they weren't as lively as they were in the illustration, however.
bennett had sat you down on the ground at that point, leaning your back against the geo construction that threatened to shatter at any given moment.
"c'mon, (name)," bennett whimpered once again, lightly shaking your semi-injured arm. your head rolled to look over at him, barely registering the tears that began to drip down his cheeks. you merely patted your legs, which had gone numb at that point. bennett, seemingly regressing into a time long past, understood your command and curled up on the ground, resting his head on your legs and burying his face in your stomach.
all he could smell was blood.
he shakily reached up to grasp onto your shirt, not caring about the red that would stain his palm.
you managed to look back up at the others, silently tapping the ground beside you. even though your mind was in a haze, your body seemed to act on autopilot as you yearned for an end.
a domestic end, one that felt nostalgic just like the man you had grown to love.
albedo was the only one who didn't sit beside you, opting to stare down at you as he stood in front of you.
he had to do this.
he had to burn the memory of your dying form in his brain.
he did this to you.
this was all his fault and he knew it.
you managed to pry your lips open as you looked up at him, the back of your head resting against the geo construct. you smiled softly at him, as if he were the cryo crystalfly you had been caught staring at that was captured in his drawing.
"'bedo..." you managed to utter, his name only coming out after a dry heave and a spit of blood. "take... care of... bennett... and sucrose... okay?"
bennett let out another sob at the sound of his own name leaving your mouth.
you never gave him an opportunity to respond. the energy that you used to hold yourself up dissipated as your soul escaped your body. your weight pressed against the geo construct and, combined with albedo's weakened resolve, shattered.
you were almost sent to the ground, your back and head almost slamming against the icy arena if not for bennett's iron grip holding you close.
albedo could only watch on in a mixture of horror and melancholy as your final plea echoed throughout his head.
take care of bennett and sucrose, okay?
but what if you were the one he wanted to take care of?

Jasper's Menstruation Easing Tea
Guess who started their motherfucking period agaaaaaain-
Anyway, in light of that, I'm gonna share my very simple tea recipe that I love.
This post is very much trans-inclusive, your local agender is suffering today and I am passing on my wisdom to future generations.
Tumblr media
[Image ID begin: A picture of the tea in question in a white mug. The mug has a cactus and the words "can't touch this on the outside. The tea is a golden brown color and has a spoon and a blue straw sticking out of it. The mug is on a coaster in front of my open grimoire, a fake leather notebook. A black gel ink pen is also nearby. Everything is sitting on a metal microwave stand that serves as my side table. The whole image is very blurry. End ID]
Ingredients
1 cup hot water
1 teabag honey vanilla chamomile herbal tea
honey: energy, healing, health, peace, sweetening (especially of one's own disposition)
chamomile: calming, energy, healing, health, peace
vanilla: calming, energy, peace
herbal tea: comfort, healing, warmth
1+ tablespoons sugar: sweetening (especially of one's own disposition)
alternative sweeteners: sweetening
Safety Warnings
I get irritated when edible spells or potions list off their ingredients but don't mention any safety or health risks whatsoever, so...despite these being generally safe and these side effects being unlikely, let's talk about some health risks!
Chamomile is an emmenagogue (my dyslexia despises that word) but is otherwise considered relatively safe, but it can cause vomiting in large (and I mean LARGE) doses. You should also avoid it if you're allergic to it, ragweed, daisies, marigolds, or chrysanthemums. Chamomile herbal tea is also known to interact with blood thinners and makes a great Potion of Shit Yourself.
Honey is generally safe, except for honey produced from rhododendron nectar - it contains a toxin that may cause heart problems, low blood pressure, and chest pain.
Vanilla may cause headaches or sleep problems if you're allergic to it, but otherwise it's safe.
How-To
Microwave the water however you'd like (I can hear many of my friends groaning as we speak). You can boil it in a pot or kettle if you're scared of your microwave. Our ideal temperature is around 212 degrees Fahrenheit (100 degrees Celsius).
In your cup, prepare it by dropping in the tea bag or loose ingredients (if you're not using a teabag, adjust it to taste) and the sugar (or another sweetener, I ain't judging). We want to put in so much sugar that we achieve launch.
When your water is hot enough, pour it into the cup and stir thoroughly to make sure that the sugar or other sweetener is completely incorporated.
Steep 3-5 minutes, then remove tea bag/loose leaves.
Wait for it to cool, then drink.

Witch-Related Books to Grab off Amazon: Masterpost Part 1
First off, I'll be sectioning this into different parts based off of what type of witch you are/want to be/want more info on, or what practices you wanna add to your craft :)
Green Witch/Magick Herbalism (a classic):
The Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock - $9.69 (Hardcover): This book had incredible reviews on amazon, and a lot of the written reviews said that the book wasn't specific to a religion and didn't try to push a religion on you, which is so wonderful because not everyone wants to be religious with their craft.
Plant Witchery by Juliet Diaz - $25.19 (Hardcover) $18.99 (Paperback): Again, stunning reviews, just a less popular book. This book isn't about general stuff, but instead it's more focused on mother nature and the useage of plants (non-herbal as well, so your houseplants might be mentioned too), which is great if you wanna center your practice around Gaia and the healing energies of the earth.
Herb Magick: An Introduction to Magickal Herbalism and Spells by Patti Wigington - $14.99 (Paperback): here's a review from a verified person- it explained this book WAY better than I ever could:
The focus of this book is on the folkloric and magical uses of herbs, rather than medicinal applications. It provides a few traditional uses of herbs, but the overall theme is knowledge of the plants and their associations, and incorporating them in your spiritual workings. This is an Introductory to Magical Herbalism.
The author's spiritual practice is rooted in traditional American and European Folk Magic. She is a licensed Pagan Clergy and is the founder of Clan Of The Stone Circle, a Celtic Pagan Tradition. (Funny, anything Celtic has been pulling my attention feelers lately, no wonder why I loved this book.) Her spells are derived/based upon the traditional folk magic practices of Western Europe and the British Isles, and the author's own experiences. They are positive spells for magical intentions of healing, love, prosperity, and protection. Baneful or negative workings with herbs are NOT used in this book.
The aesthetic of this book has my little, beginner herbalist heart gushing! The blue, green, and yellow earthy tones and hues used were perfect for the topic of herbs! The cover is GORGEOUS! It's so pretty and flowery, the illustrated pictures of the herbs were extremely helpful because I had never seen some of the plants before. This will make future identification much easier for me!
Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs by Scott Cunningham - $16.43 (Paperback): A couple reviews describe it as being in a cookbook format, and overall an amazing book, like most of Scott Cunningham's other works. Apparently the Amazon shipping was literal trash for a bunch of people and they essentially left the book loose inside the box to bang around and get all sorts of messed up :((
The Witch's Herbal Apothecary by Marysia Miernowska - $18.69 (Paperback): Described by reviewers as the PERFECT book for recipes and rituals, even one of Marysia's personal students spoke very highly of her, saying that she's the real deal. Other reviews state the book as being very beginner friendly, and beautifully written and illustrated :))
Blackthorn's Botanical Magic: The Green Witch's Guide to Essential Oils for Spellcraft, Ritual, and Healing by Amy Blackthorn - $15.79 (Paperback): again, phenomenal reviews, just a lesser-known book. Again, here's a review from someone who explained the book a bit better than I could:
This book is way more than I thought it would be. I thought it would be like a dictionary - you look up the essential oil and get the definition. It is that but it's also got a few introductory chapters about oils and products and rituals to give you a nice and concise overview of a lot of things you might need to know as a novice. I also like the way you can reference different oils in alpha order but also look up your purpose and find the oil you need.
From the looks of it, this book is specifically about Essential Oils. Is that still Green Witchery?? Lol I'm not sure, but i felt like it should go in this category.
Kitchen Witch (another classic):
Blackthorn's Botanical Brews by Amy Blackthorn - $14.49 (Hardcover): this is mainly a book of recipes for drinks and cocktails and stuff. There was one review complaining about how it didn't have correspondences, meanwhile the book is literally described as being a recipe book? It's an AMAZING book if you enjoy/want to start making homemade elixirs and cocktails :))
The Natural Witch's Cookbook: 100 Magickal, Healing Recipes, and Herbal Remedies to Nourish Body, Mind, and Spirit by Lisanna Wallace - $20.69 (hardcover): This is again just a book of recipes, and the reviews are really good. Here's one of them:
I wanted to write the review as soon as I got the book. I was not expecting this book to be so fantastic. The recipes are very nutritious and the names are very inventive, but I could see that before I tried the recipes. I held off on writing the review until I tasted a few of the recipes. Even my kids were very happy with the flavors of these recipes. They are mostly easy to make and they are very delicious. Be aware though that the food can only be as great as the quality of the ingredients that you get. These are not recipes that call for complicated or fancy ingredients, or even a lot of ingredients. As a result, you have to use the best that you can find/afford to get the best results you can. I did not use expensive ingredients, but everything I used was very fresh and it does make a difference on the outcome. Overall, the book have some great recipes, easy to follow and the end result does look like the ones on the picture.
The Book of Kitchen Witchery by Cerridwen Greenleaf - $12.89 (Paperback):
I am so pleased with this book. It’s so magical and warm. Sometimes the new age genre can be a little too technical or focus too much on religion or putting down particular religions... this was not like that. There are so many lovely tips and easy spells and recipes that are kept fairly light so you can make them your own. The book just makes me happy, it has an energy to it that goes right along with it’s artsy illustrations and at-a-glance format. This will be a great reference. Very grateful to everyone who made this book possible.
A former editor said that there were a few editing mistakes, but nothing too crazy. If that's one of your pet peeves, just beware when buying this book lol (btw the editor still have a 4 star review because they said the book is still very good)
Potions, Elixirs & Brews by Anaïs Alexandre - $12.79 (Hardcover): I just had to include both of these amazing reviews, since both said what the other review did not.
This book is so gorgeous and everything I have been looking for in regards to potions. I love her writing style and the way the book looks. Highly informative and I can feel her good intentions behind the book. She is very intelligent. I respect her and I am inspired by her! I found her by chance looking up books for potions, she also has Instagram! Very grateful, amazing book thank you:-) so happy to be the first comment:p excited to see what else amazing things come from Anais!
And
I adore this book. The art and setup is simplistic and beautiful. There is a system that tells you exactly how difficult each potion will be to make, whether or not it’s alcoholic, and what is the ideal season to make it in. The instructions are clear, the preliminary information is well done, and there’s even a section for brewing large batches which I LOVE. The weight of the book is nice and it feels of good quality. The papers are glossy and, I haven’t yet, but I feel like it won’t be a disaster If you get some of your creation on it. The book is separated into types of potions depending on your intent. This is a perfect book for anyone new to making potions or is interested in a magickal recipe book!
The Witches Feast: A Kitchen Grimoire by Melissa Madara - $35 (Hardcover): This book actually isn't out yet, but it'll be released on October 26th of this year (2021). It looks promising, which is why I put it on the list, and for that much money, it better be good lol
Lunar/Moon/Astrology Witch:
The Complete Guide to Astrology by Louise Edington - $9.49 (Paperback) $22.99 (Hardcover): There's amazing reviews on this book, and one of them said that she's been researching astrology for 23 years!! Here's the review in it's entirety:
I've been a student of Astrology for the past 23 years now, and have read most of the books on this subject that are considered foundational. Many guides to astrology that I page through in a bookstore are fine, but covering information I already know. What I so appreciated about Edington's new book is that she brings a new angle to even the basics of Astrology. Her book feels like a fresh update, more appropriate to our current time in terms of language and sensibility. There are no "evil" aspects or transits in Edington's view, no dark warnings of disaster; her evolutionary perspective encourages us to see the opportunity in even the most challenging times, what can be learned, what can be accomplished. As she says in her book, she doesn't look at the natal chart as something fixed, unchanging, rather a "blueprint rich in meaning and possibility."
I also admired Edington's extensive knowledge of the stories behind the names and symbology used in Astrology: sharing her interpretations of them, how they are useful, how they can be limiting. Concepts I thought I already understood have been unpacked in greater depth by the author, so that I see deeper layers.
This text is beautifully written, well-organized, offering a fresh update, as well as a deeper dive than many astrology texts. This book is an invaluable resource I'll be returning to, and consulting, with appreciation.
Moon Spells: How to Use the Phases of the Moon to Get What You Want by Diane Ahlquist - $11.35 (Paperback): This book is a bit older fashioned in the sense that it's VERY heteronormative, we're talking about love magick SPECIFICALLY for men and all about being a father, and a section of love magick SPECIFICALLY for women and being a mother. So if this gets on your nerves, then i wouldn't recommend this book. Other than that, the reviews are very good and they describe the book as being a must-have for lunar witches.
The Complete Book of Moon Spells by Michael Herkes - $13.49 (Paperback): Yes, this book was written by a man. If that's something that might make you not want to purchase, please look at this and also keep in mind that SO MANY of the most highly esteemed witches of the world ARE MEN. So if you wanna be closed off and refuse their help and their knowledge, go ahead sis, I'm not stopping you.

He's most definitely not just "some guy". Aside from that, this book has very good reviews. Some people called it "fluffy" and a bit less serious then they anticipated, but it's very good for beginner witches who are finally wanting to start doing spells. Here's a review.
In this book you explore ways to conjure the mysterious power of the moon to manifest your intentions to achieve abundance and balance in your life! Each chapter is devoted to one of the eight phases of the moon and includes various spells, tarot spreads, crystal grids and potions that reflect that phase of the moon!
This is an overall amazing book if you want to build a foundation of learning about the history of the moon, astrology, cycles & phases, ritual tools, crystals, herbs, and essential oils- as well as the moon spells and rituals.
This is one of my new favorite books! I feel so connected to the moon and this book is a great reference for learning the best rituals and spells to use for the different moon phases and energies surrounding them! It’s easy to follow and the lunar rituals, mystical spells and magical drinks are so vibrant, creative and helpful in my spiritual journey. I’d recommend this book to anyone that loves the moon like I do.
Moon Magic: A Handbooks of Lunar Cycles, Lore, and Mystical Energies by Aurora Kane - $19.99 (Hardcover, although there's only three left when I'm looking at it) $9.99 (Kindle):
One review said that the book much surpassed their expectations, and another review said this:
I absolutely adore this book.
If you're just a beginner and want to understand the different moon phases, this is the book to get.
The information inside was extremely helpful without being overly complicated.
Well worth the money spent.
Astrology: Using the Wisdom of the Stars in Your Everyday Life by DK - $14.59 (Hardcover):
I saw this in store and was immediately drawn to it's beautiful and shiny cover! But when I open it, the inside is just as beautiful! I love looking through the pages. I would say it is a very good basic astrology book, but I have another one that gives much more detail. I like this one for more of a quick reference kind of book. It's more of a bullet point style book, where it gives little tidbits instead of paragraphs going in depth. (Though some pages do have paragraphs) BUT, it covers just about everything including all the houses, moon signs, and ascending signs. It covers everything, but it just covers he tip of the iceberg. (In my opinion) I still absolutely recommend it!
Apparently this book is also available in Barnes and Noble, so if you have access to one, you might wanna look there for the book before purchasing off of Amazon :)
Misc Books (General):
The Spell Book for New Witches: Essential Spells to Change Your Life by Ambrosia Hawthorn - $10.19 (Paperback) $20.69 (Hardcover):
This book... It's a very good spell book, and is true in the spells it contains, but MY biggest problem with it is that it's V E R Y Wiccan, and seems almost preachy about the "Threefold Law" and what they like to call "karma". Choosing not to do dark magick is PERFECTLY FINE and being Wiccan is totally okay! But don't be like Christianity and rub it in people's faces, dude. The book talks about how you can ONLY practice "love and light". Other than that, this book is AMAZING and rated literally 5 stars with over 11K reviews. If you lean more Wiccan, by ALL means, buy this spellbook. It's the one for you.
Practical Magic for Beginners by Maggie Haseman - $13.49 (Paperback)
This book is fantastic for the witch who wants to learn more about her craft but doesn't know where to start. Each subject is broken down into easy to absorb bits of wisdom without being overwhelming. A great jumping off place to decide where to dive in deep next.
This book is very comprehensive, and is a great reference guide for beginner witches, or witches looking to add another book to their collection.
Candle Magic For Beginners by Mystic Dylan - $10.86 (Paperback) $21.99 (Spiral bound)
This book is a must have for anyone looking to deepen their connection with the magical element of fire, ritual, and spell work through candle magic! Dylan not only teaches you how to use candle magic for things such as protection, abundance, love, healing, and more, but takes you through the fascinating history of the power of fire & how to properly charge, cleanse, and consecrate your candles to begin manifesting your deepest desires!!! Overall, the book is beautifully written with gorgeous illustration and will hook you from the start!!!!!!!
This book is perfect for beginners to candle magick, or beginners to the craft in general. I personally LOVE candle magic because I've always been attracted to fire. I could void out and just stare at a flame for hours on end lol
Crystals for Beginners by Karen Frazier - $8.99 (Paperback) $20.95 (Spiral bound)
Absolutely love this book!! It’s so informative! I am a beginner and this book explains a lot. Everything a beginner would need to know about crystals is in this book. I am so pleased with it. Best purchase of the week! Definitely worth it. The author explains crystals, chakras and energy so enthusiastically and in a way that is easy to understand. At the end of the book, is a “resources” page with all the websites, books and apps that the Author recommends.
Again, very beginner friendly, but this time it's not spells, it's crystals and such. I've personally been wanting this book for AGES
The Crystal Bible Series by Judy Hall - $38.99 (Volume 1-3 shrink-wrapped set, paperback):
This is my first purchase of the three-part series by Judy Hall. Volume 1 covers over 200 crystals! I can already tell you I'll be purchasing volumes 2 and 3 (each of which cover 200+ MORE crystals/stones, not included in volume 1) I love how each crystal description includes photos to further help in identification. I also appreciate that rarity and sources were included. Information about the spiritual and physical impacts of crystals on the body is in there as well! This book is loaded with a lot of great information and is the perfect quick reference. It's also small and fits easily in my hand. I highly recommend it for beginners.
This is a review from just the first book, and it's from a verified hauler/buyer :)) these aren't exactly newbie friendly, and some people say they're a bit harder to understand.

Wilbur, Fundy, and Purpled were interviewed for this great article on the Dream SMP and the Minecraft community! Full article below the cut.
"Minecraft" launched over a decade ago and the video game is as popular as ever. With over 126 million players worldwide, the voxel-based survival game drops adventurers into a world where they can craft, build, explore, destroy, and create to their heart's content. Aided by tools, blocks, and creativity, the simple sandbox world allows anyone on PC, console, or smartphone the chance to project their own feelings and creations directly into their virtual space.
"As long as you have the mind for it, you can really just do anything," 17-year-old "Minecraft" YouTuber Purpled, who has 700,000 subscribers, told Insider. "Because of how simple Minecraft is and how easy it is to build with it, you can create whatever you want."
In recent years, Microsoft's never-ending game has evolved into a tool for content creators to express themselves, leading to high-profile collaborations with some of YouTube's biggest personalities. By creating their own private "Minecraft" servers, creators have been able to craft ornate worlds and stories that they can explore in streams and videos, immersing fans in a cinematic-style universe.
Minecraft has a long history on YouTube
"Minecraft's" versatility has made it an incredibly popular game for content creators and influencers. In 2012, a change in YouTube's algorithm promoting watch time over video clicks led to a renaissance of "Let's Players" who recorded themselves reacting and playing their favorite games. "Minecraft" was one of the most successful, spawning some of the largest channels of the time like SkyDoesMinecraft (11.3 million subscribers) and Tobuscus (6.25 million subs).
Though the popularity of "Minecraft" remained fairly steady, content about the title waned a bit over the next decade either due to content fatigue or newer titles like "Fortnite" taking the spotlight. 2020 flipped the title back into the forefront, with both streamers and YouTubers capitalizing on the title's popularity.
The biggest breakout star for "Minecraft" in the past few years is Dream, an expert, faceless player with a neon-green avatar with over 17 million YouTube subscribers. YouTube labeled him the second overall content creator of the year and his streams consistently pull in a quarter of a million people.
In May of 2020, Dream decided to create a small, private server for his friends to play around in. This SMP server, or "survival multiplayer," started off with only a handful of content creators being invited. Soon, the server would expand to over 30 members, bringing in millions of views from fans who chronicle every moment of the lore the creators eventually created.
Viewership on Twitch of "Minecraft" content went from 17 million hours watched in January 2020 to 74 million in January of 2021, according to data from analytics company Rainmaker.gg.
How the Dream SMP grew from a private server with friends to a cultural milestone
Purpled has been playing "Minecraft" for the past eight years and is a high-ranking player in a multiplayer game mode called "Bed Wars." He had started talking to Dream in the summer of 2019, when the pair were both small, mutual fans.
"When the SMP was in its infancy, I just asked him if there was any room because he said how it's just for friends and if a friend wants to join, they can," Purpled said. "So I asked him, he said, 'Sure.' He sent me the IP and I was in."
The server was originally just a place to create and hangout, with no intention of creating an overarching story or plot.
Fundy, a 19-year-old Dutch YouTuber with 2.7 million subscribers joined when only a handful of other creators were on."I had talked to Dream on a few occasions, out-of-the-blue Dream sent me a message about a survival world that they had going on. It was very small at first," Fundy said. "I thought it could be a fun little side-project I could stream every now and then on Twitch, so I decided to join."
Fundy joined in the early days alongside Wilbur Soot, a 23-year-old YouTuber with 3.8 million subscribers. Soot, after attempting to create an "illegal potion shop" on the server, decided to establish a nation of non-Americans players called L'Manberg. Soot said he wrote a "treatment" for how the formation of his country would go, creating an official canon that fans could follow along with.
"I was invited into the Dream SMP near its inception but I only joined fully when I had an idea for building a country in 'Minecraft'," Soot said. "I write up a series of plot hooks and points that should tie together, however we improv dialogue and comedy throughout to take us from point to point."
These streams and pieces of content all had a canon that could be followed and consumed like a television show. L'Manberg eventually started a war against Dream for its independence, staging a rebellion chronicled in YouTube videos with millions of views.
These streams and videos aren't just randoms in "Minecraft" trying to defeat the end-game Ender Dragon — these are performers putting on a show that their fans can't miss. As the lore expanded, so did the rules needed to keep a sense of continuity and order. For example, each player only has three lives before they are removed and deleted from the server.
"It went from a casual survival game to a whole story-line filled with plots and twists," Fundy said. "Role-playing at this point is a key-feature of the Dream SMP, some parts are scripted, some parts are improv, and some parts are 'non-canon,' where it is just counted as a standard 'Minecraft' server."
The fan communities have risen up and made their voices heard
Over the next few months, the lore and world would continue to grow and so would the fan base. Hundreds of thousands of viewers would tune in for these streams, trying to keep up with the lore and content. To help catalog the story, a network of fans established themselves as lore keepers, documenting each moment for those that had to miss a stream.
The "DREAMSMP UPDATES!" account on Twitter has established itself as one of the most popular locations to find all this content and lore on social media. Starting in December 2020, the account has grown to over 147,000 users with just a team of seven administrators, ages 14-17, in different locations around the world, posting updates and stream notifications for fans. "Minecraft" is a game that appeals to all ages, but the audience for this content tends to skew younger, with 41 percent of Twitch's user base being 16 to 24, according to GlobalWebIndex.
"You can tell they're all friends and it's a lot more lighthearted in general and it shows," mod on the "DREAMSMP UPDATES!" Twitter account eclaire said over chat app Discord. "When it's not lore you see them actually having good chemistry and it really pulls you in because it almost feels like being pulled into a friend group."
User SamHQ first started the fan account with a couple of friends from high school but the group quickly expanded after the account tweeted that they needed more fans of certain streamers to join. She is online and runs the account "24/7" but "it's just like answering a text."
"When I started the account I knew lots of people who couldn't catch up because of work or school," SamHQ said. "So I gathered friends to help and now people rely on us when someone's streaming or to catch up with the lore when they can't watch."
For the fans that run the update account, keeping up with the Dream SMP isn't dissimilar to following the Marvel Cinematic Universe or a long-running television show. Characters come and go, but the improv and roleplay stay.
"The Dream SMP did something really special — taking an original idea, creating new things that have never been seen on 'Minecraft' and incorporating them with humor and characters that you can become easily attached with," mod NotAlex said.
Though other SMP roleplay servers, like EarthSMP and SMPLive, have been created over the years, none have been as successful or popular as the Dream SMP.
Finding a fan base on the Dream SMP can lead to major growth.
For the performers on the server, addressing fans and their responses comes with the territory.
"The Dream SMP viewers are very important to the Dream SMP, and the fact that they openly speak their mind about how a certain stream went only helps the streamers improve," Fundy said. "It's basically an instant review of what was liked and what wasn't."
Like most major fandoms with a young audience, fanfiction of these streamers has popped up online. Dozens of Dream fics and drawings exist online, some going a bit far and putting underage characters together. Dream responded on Twitter to those "ships," writing that they shouldn't "ship creators that are uncomfortable with it, and especially not minors."
The Dream stans, or the super fans, also tend to be very vocal online about the SMP. Hashtags on Twitter like #dreamnotfound and #dreamfanart consistently break-through to the trending page, confusing those who have no idea this world exists. The most ferocious of stans sometimes overstep the boundary between polite disagreement and outright harassment. This vocal minority has sent death threats and waves of harassment at those who criticize or disagree with their favorite content creators.
The growth and future of these channels is in large part due to the Dream SMP server
The popularity of Dream SMP has helped grow the content creators that take part in it. Since joining the server, Purpled is gaining three times as many subscribers a month on YouTube and has been introduced to an entirely new fan base. His streams used to pull in 3,000 viewers but now his average is closer to 35,000 to 40,000 viewers.
"Some people think of them as obsessive or stalker fans, but those are people that really like to talk about certain creators and really get invested in things," Purpled said. "And it's really nice because they care a lot more and connect more with the creator than the content."
These creators understand the power of the fan base and know that they come for the content.
"I think the Dream SMP is popular thanks to the brilliant creators and funny improv moments," Soot said. "I think we'll be seeing the emergence of a huge wave of roleplay-centric gaming communities."

I got so pissed off about Laniakea earlier this week that I redesigned her. I have a lot of Thoughts about this design so I’m gonna throw ‘em under a readmore, apologies in advance to mobile users if Tumblr still hates readmores on mobile
1) Made her look more Asian/Polynesian since her name is literally Hawaiian and she’s supposed to be from the Eastern Lands which are, and I cannot put enough quotes around it, “””””””””Asian”””””””””.  I based her face on Jarah Mariano, a Korean/Hawaiian model
2) Deadly Pacific Flora and Fauna - I tried to mimic the Bluebottle (Aka Man o’ War) with a lot of her shapes, such as using the pneumatophore for her underskirt and basing the ribbons and her hair on the shape of its tentacles. The Man O’ War is actually not a jellyfish but a colony of  specialized polyps, which echos to her cluster tasks. Additionally, I wanted to use a cone snail in her design somewhere since I am both terrified and in awe of them, so I used their shape as the basis for her arm/leg bracers, and replaced her potion bottle with a cone snail shell that has been modified to be a potion container. The fabric pattern design on her corset replacement, hair tie, and doll is meant to harken to the blue-ringed octopus, another notoriously deadly pacific bastard. Finally, the flowers incorporated into her design are the Brugmansia cultivar  Hawaiian Double White,  which is extremely toxic to both humans and animals.
3) Tetraphobia - This is fairly simple, as tetraphobia is relatively common in east-asian cultures due to its relation with death. Seems fitting for a slayer master, though I deviated from it in a few spots for simplicity’s sake. The green jade bracelets/anklets are intended to suggest the lei bracelets/anklets sometimes worn by hula dancers. I was originally going to give her a halter top since that seems to be a fairy popular style in Hawaii, but then she seemed a lil too nakey since my white ass subconsciously thinks combat =  Full Armor so she ended up with sleeves.
4) Tokens and Accessories - Since she’s supposed to have spent time with Morvran and Kuradal, I wanted to include some sort of token from both of them, though I honestly really blanked on Kuradal so she ended up with a necklace of teeth from her dungeon. For Morvran, I yoinked one of the design elements from his concept art (see below) and made it green. I kept most of the spear design the same other than modifying the tip so it reflected the token from Morvran, and I also gave her somewhere to slot in her poison vials along with a holster on her thigh to store them.
Tumblr media
5) The fucking Voodoo Doll - I’m not even gonna go into the rant but suffice to say, It’s a poppet now since they’re very similar and a poppet is both non-appropriative and also British. Reference below, but I swapped the hard body for a soft one for easier stabbin’.

may i request some hc about yandere dorm leaders of what type of ring will they bought to propose (force, in the view of MC) to their darling? Thank you in advance >w
warnings: general yandere themes, drug mentions (love potions)
riddle rosehearts
he’d want something tasteful but fancy- something to make it clear that his darling is with someone like him. after all, the rosehearts last name, while not even close to a royal family or any noble name, does hold merit with their magic prowess
it’d definitely have a gold band, and a tasteful red jewel. while the queen of hearts does not state any rule for proposals, riddle believes in upholding the aesthetics she promoted
it’s enchanted so that if his darling ever takes it off, it’ll alert him. it’s a test of a kind: his darling could take it off, without any direct negative effects... but riddle will know.
and he will demand to know why they’re taking the ring off. the ring is a show of the promise to marry him- why take it off? are they thinking of cheating?!
leona kingscholar
a ring, a ring... well, he knows it’s a thing that’s needed for a marriage; and he does want to marry his darling. it’s the ultimate form of making sure his darling can’t leave him
as lazy as he is- as in, he usually wouldn’t care about jewelry or that sort of thing- he does want something beautiful for his darling. after all, it’s going to be something they have to look at and be reminded they belong to him
he doesn’t care if the ring doesn’t match the pre-existing image of the royal family; he’ll pick whatever he think looks good. a gold band, perhaps a yellow or green jewel
he doesn’t need any spell or hex to the ring. he’s damn sure he can keep his darling from escaping just by himself; if they ever dare take it off... well, he’ll make sure they don’t do that ever again.
besides, the social pressure of messing up their engagement with a prince will probably keep them in place; don’t worry, leona will make sure they feel the horrible parts of now being associated to the royal family
azul ashengrotto
this octopus is greedy- though he usually goes for magic abilities, he’s also accumulated quite a good amount of money from his less than tasteful business, so he’ll perhaps splurge on a ring for his darling
he’ll probably go for a silver band and a blue stone- perhaps some aquamarine?
the ring will probably have a twisting, water-inspired design. he’ll fuss over it; after all, it has to be perfect on his darling... he isn’t above causing a scene at the ring store if he doesn’t find what he wants
he won’t tell his darling the ring is enchanted so they cannot take it off- that’s for them to find out in a moment of desperation. more of a promise of engagement, the ring is a seal of his darling’s fate: they’re in too deep, there’s no out now.
kalim al-asim
he’ll be incredibly torn. he wants the proposal to be a surprise! but- what would his darling like...?
despite his unhealthy obsession and his holding his darling captive, he tries to be perceptive to what they like, decorating their room (which is more like their cage) however they like, buying them any an all clothes they as much as look at; so... he wants them to like the ring!
but in the end, he thinks a surprise engagement is the best!
the ring will be big and gaudy. kalim doesn’t quite know how much is too much; he’ll be swayed by the purest gold band and the biggest ruby on it
the ring is sure to attract people’s eyes in the proposal- ah, of course it’ll be at a party! with all eyes on his darling, when he pops the question, with a ring so expensive it could probably pay for a house; there’s really not a chance to say no
vil schoenheit
honestly, he’ll spend a long time trying to pick a ring. this isn’t about his darling as much as it is for him to satisfy his perfectionist side
he won’t pick a gold or silver band just based on tastes; he’ll take everything into account. his darling’s undertones, the shade of their skin- what colour jewel would look good when vil holds their hand? with the clothes vil makes them wear?
he will for sure place at least a tracking spell on the ring, and perhaps even curse it so his darling is unable to take it off- but this will only happen if he catches them trying to remove it once.
his darling is his beloved doll; for vil, marriage is not only the ultimate way to seal the relationship, but the most perfect oportunity to dress his darling up in all the beautiful outfits he wishes; and he better not hear a peep of complaint...! well, not that he worries- the copious amount of love potion probably has his darling too dazed to even think of saying no to his proposal
idia shroud
he’s good with his hands, and at crafts in general. while he probably wouldn’t dare go and make the ring himself, he’d probably really like to design it
a silver band, a magic blue stone that glows- it fits right in with him. if he, his darling, and ortho all stood for a family portrait, they’d all fit in...!
to absolutely nobody’s shock, he’d try to slip some extra features into the ring to make sure he can always keep an eye on his darling. a micro camera small enough to hide in a ring...? a small microphone...? the possibilities are endless!
of course, his darling won’t take it off... right? RIGHT? he may not directly curse the ring or anything, but his desperate attitude and the clear crazed look in his eyes when he tells them not to remove it should be enough of a message for his darling to not take it off, or else
malleus draconia
for him, he’d like to propose and marry his darling in the traditional fae way. whether this includes a ring or not doesn’t matter; when he consults books of human courtship, a proposal ring is always mentioned, so he’ll incorporate it anyways. after all, he wants not only fae to know his darling is his- everyone must know
the dark, black metal band and the green jewel are quite reminiscent of him and his usual aesthetic, with thorn-like details holding the rather large jewel
it wouldn’t be shocking if the jewel used had already been in his possession; he does tend to hoard treasure. jewels, trinkets, his darling...
he doesn’t want to imagine his beloved would ever take the ring off, but... he knows it could happen. he’ll warn them once: the ring is cursed. take it off, and they’ll fall into a deep sleep only malleus can wake them from. can the curse be broken? who knows- malleus definitely won’t tell

~*~*~
When St Mungo’s commissioned a painting for their new maternity wing, they were purposely vague with their request. “Something beautiful,” the Director had said when she authorised the money transfer to Harry’s Gringotts account. “We would be honoured to display any artwork by The Saviour of the Wizarding World himself.”
So, no pressure.
Harry spent the rest of the day staring at his canvas, his mind just as blank. He only escaped the deep despair of his creative block when Kreacher appeared with a crack and informed him dinner was ready.
When he entered the dining room, Draco was already seated and sipping from a wine glass. Despite having been a permanent resident of Grimmauld Place for a few months now, he still dressed as though he was a dinner guest, in his immaculate dark shirt, grey waistcoat and crisp trousers, with his perfect white-blonde hair and fair skin.
He was beautiful.
Draco smiled when Harry took a seat at the head of the table. While they ate, Draco told him about his day; he had discovered that salamander’s blood interacted strongly with poppy seeds extract and the resulting fumes from the explosion could peel paint off walls. “Thank Merlin I had my Protective Suit on,” he said with a chuckle. As he continued sharing his Potions Mastery stories, Harry found himself unable to look away.
After the war trials, Harry had put in a lot of work to woo Draco, to convince him to open up to him and love him back. It took a few years, many conversations and fights, a lot of forgiveness and sex, but eventually they reached a point where they chose to be with each other simply because they both wanted to.
After dinner, Draco sat on the living room couch, legs crossed as he lazily flipped through a Quidditch magazine. Harry joined him, taking the opportunity to drink in the sight of Draco, the sway of his hair, the sharpness of his jaw, his long limbs and nimble fingers.
Since becoming an artist, Harry had learned to memorize the things he saw quickly, so he could easily store an image in his head and draw it later.
At night, long after Draco had fallen asleep, Harry put on his spectacles, took out a sketchbook from the bedside table drawer and started drawing.
/
It became a new habit. While the canvas remained free of paint, his sketchbook quickly filled up with sketches of Draco doing random things: reading, talking, studying, cooking, making potions, writing, shopping. There were also several of him playing with Teddy. The latest one was him carrying Teddy as the three of them had a stroll around Muggle London.
The deadline was approaching fast.
While Harry stressed over this in his workroom, he heard a knock on the door.
"You're back early," he noted, pleased to see Draco as he summoned a stool and sat next to him.
Draco smirked. "I finished my paper early and handed it in before everyone else," he said proudly, glancing at Harry's blank canvas. "Having trouble with the St Mungo’s commission?"
"Yeah," said Harry sheepishly. "They wanted 'something beautiful' and I can't decide what to draw."
Draco nodded, understanding. "What have you been doing instead?"
After a moment of hesitation, Harry showed Draco his sketchbook. His pale face slowly turned red the more pages he went through. Harry hadn't drawn anything too intimate, but the act of drawing the same person repeatedly over a span of weeks had enough intimacy in itself that Harry would have felt exposed if he had shown it to anyone else.
Draco paused at the latest sketch. He turned the book around and asked, "When was this?"
It was the last drawing, a two-page spread; one page had Draco with Teddy wrapped around his torso and the boy's small blue-haired head resting on his shoulder as he dozed. Harry had been walking behind them, so Draco’s face was not visible in the drawing, only his hair, shoulders and back. Harry had roughly drawn the background too, outlines of the observation wheel, the nearby buildings, the bridge and the river, which spilled into the second page.
"When we took Teddy out last weekend."
Draco returned the book to Harry with the page still open. "I think this looks beautiful enough for your painting."
"I'm not going to sell a painting of you and Teddy to other people," Harry protested.
Draco stood up and kissed his forehead. "On top of being an artist, you're also a brilliant wizard. The size of your canvas doesn't limit you."
After Draco left, Harry stared at his square canvas. Then he got off his stool, took several steps back and made the canvas grow into a rectangle so large, the top edge almost reached the ceiling. He levitated the sketchbook and began to work on his paints.
/
The new maternity wing of St Mungo’s began operations and opened to the public a month after Harry completed his painting. It was massive and heavy; he helped levitate it as the staff cast Modified Sticking Charms. The painting showed the London Eye, majestic beside the River Thames and against the clear blue sky.
The other half of the painting was displayed in Grimmauld Place’s living room. If one looked at it long enough, one could see the younger boy's hair colour changing ever so often.

part 01/?? “the french quarter”
next part
summary: in the summer of 1994, four years after the death of their father, a teenage witch is pulled from their roots in new orleans and moved back to their mother’s home in westminster. out of place and being pulled in two different directions, the teen is faced with a new life at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. people fear what they don’t know, a lesson their father tried to shield them from their whole life, but maybe friends will make it easier.
word count 3.3k
an: efngojkf;enb; a harry potter fic i never saw myself falling back down this hole but here we are. don’t want to label this a certain pairing and ruin the story so y’all gotta bear with me :) also this takes inspiration from tvd/to in terms of the magic showcased, and the history of new orleans. as an la resident it’s always been fascinating and i’ve always wanted to incorporate that in some way. the only oc characters are the mother/father names. also title is inspired by leave out all the rest by linkin park.
The streets are lined with lights, fluorescent and bright to indicate the exciting environment. The jazz that radiated from the four person band making their way down the street carried up into the businesses and homes that resided in the French Quarter. The sunshine from the outside world that warmed the bodies underneath didn’t make it into the apartment off of Chartres St. Inside the red bricked building and in apartment 2D in 1990, the ever growing shouts from one adult to another could be heard from even down in the streets.
It was like any other day in the observant eleven year olds life. Focused on packing things into the expensive trunk her mother had bought for her, she did her best to tune out the shouting. She ran her fingers over the blue and cranberry robes, lost in thought of what this new school would be like when she heard the sound of a slammed door followed by footsteps. She knew who it would be, and closed the trunk and latched it before they could even get the door open.
“Are you all packed?” They had asked in a calm and comforting tone.
She nodded her head, pushing the trunk out of the way before standing to scratch the head of the black and tawny screech owl resting near the window. It lowered its head further into itself in satisfaction, when a hand grazed her shoulder. The child stopped, eyes looking up to look out into the street, and subsequently to see her mother disappear just around the corner into oblivion.
“She just needs some time to cool down,” her father told her. His daughter nodded, but he knew it was just an automatic response. He guided her to the ledged seat and she sat next to him while he grabbed her smaller hand in his.
“She doesn’t want me to go,” his daughter said matter of factly. He inhaled a bit, and gave her hand a squeeze.
“Your mother thinks you should go to the school she went to when she was your age,” he carefully explained. She gave him a nod, though there was a second of hesitation before she spoke again.
“But they aren’t like me. They’re like mom.”
There it was, the acknowledgment that you knew more than he ever wanted you to know. Vincent Dupuis had done everything he could to protect his daughter from the fact that her mother didn’t know what to do with her besides send her off to that school in Scotland in the hopes she’d return as only half of herself. It wasn’t an malicious intent, not at all, but it was an attempt to take a part of you (his part of you) away. That seemed to be the root of all their fights as of late, but he didn’t want you to know that. Vincent reached over and pulled his daughter into his lap and rubbed his thumb over her cheek.
“Ilvermorny will be able to teach you not only what your mother knows, but what I know too. Safely,” he emphasized. “You’ll be the brightest witch this city has seen. I know it.”
She smiled at that, and he kissed her forehead. It was the last tender moment they’d share, though she didn’t know that before heading off to the boarding school in Massachusetts. It was the last memory she had of her father before his death a few months later.
Vincent Dupuis was celebrated in a traditional New Orleans style. Though his family and his coven mourned him, the city celebrated his life (though the strangers lining the streets didn’t really know him). That was just how it was, and your mother said he would have appreciated that.
Vincent Dupuis was a part of a deeply rooted witch lineage in New Orleans, which now was a part of you. One of the original founding families of the witch covens in New Orleans to be exact. He often would remind you (and especially your mother) of that fact. You were a respected witch family, even if you were seen as different. Because of your mother.
Vincent was born and raised in the heart of the French Quarter. His parents still lived in the same house that smelled like cookies (your grandma would always have them ready when you’d stay the night when your parents would fight). It was a second home, and it was adorned with pictures of his family, and then yours. They moved and smiled, they held life in them. It was your favorite thing to see, though your grandparents didn’t see what you saw. They only saw the still motion. You wondered why that was, but eventually that thought trickled away when you found out why.
Althea Talpin (she opted to keep her maiden name) was a part of one of the most important bloodlines in the witch world. It was never tainted with muggle blood your maternal grandparents boasted about throughout your childhood. But when it came to her daughter, to you, they were colder than grandparents should be.
Althea was born and raised in Westminster. She was raised with the finest things, and was amongst one of the wealthiest families at this time. When she came of age, Althea was sent to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and continued her family's legacy by being sorted into the Slytherin house. Over the next seven years she excelled in everything from potions, charms, to defense against the dark arts. She wanted a change after her final year, and took to traveling the world.
She eventually travelled to The Big Easy, drawn to the French Quarter because of the festivities and thrill of it all. She had always been a thrill seeker, and she found that in a man named Vincent. They fell in love and within the year were married, and when you came around shortly after was when Vincent opened up about his own life and lineage.
Althea was fine with it, she hoped her daughter would be free of that kind of magic, and she could convince Vincent to move the family back to her home. After eight years away, she missed everything so dearly. But he always refused, he was afraid of what people would say or even do to their child. The witches knew about the murders, knew the name which shouldn’t be spoken, and he was fearful of what would become of his only child. That was when the resentment started, almost immediately after she had found her daughter bringing dead flowers back to life with the touch of her hand.
Four years have passed since that day, those final moments between father and daughter. The summer of 1994 was soon coming to an end, though the fifteen year old didn’t want it to. With summer ending there was an ever looming cloud of uncertainty over her head, especially with her mother's eccentric ideas for the weekend, and future.
Westminster was nothing like the French Quarter. It was gloomy and busy with people who dressed like they were on their way to business meetings. Looking out of the average townhouse (on the outside, of course the inside felt like it had grown two sizes) it was dreadful. Your mother shouted from downstairs, and with a final sigh you scratched your owls head.
“We’ll be back soon, Arro,” you told the black and tawny feathered bird. “Don’t bother the house elves too much.”
Arro chirped at you, and you stood and grabbed the jacket off your bed. You bounced down the stairs and moved around the cleaning house elves. It was still odd to you to have these creatures in your house. You had always done the chores around the apartment in New Orleans, but your mother said you didn’t have to do that now. It didn’t sit right in your chest, but your mother was hard headed.
You missed your dad.
Your mother was transfixed on her hands, elegant and long, she barely looked up at you as you shoved your arms through your flannel. She was dressed like what you would think witches dressed like. Black jumpsuit that was sitting just below her shoulders, but also joined with a hood less black cape that just passed her elbows. Like you said, elegant and long, and daring as usual. She was like a new woman, back in her own world. Whereas you were more simple, you could even say more dressed to the times.
You had opted for a black overall and white shirt under it, basic shoes, and a loose flannel jacket. If you were honest you had seen a character from Friends wear it and you loved the look. You felt comfortable, but that faded the minute your mother looked you over.
“Did you not like the outfit I had picked?” She asked.
Right. The black stockings, black dress that looked too stuffy and had a weird collar that looked like you were a doll. No thanks. You could only offer a shrug and could see her eyes roll.
“This is more me.”
Partially true. You were at an age you didn’t know who you were really. Two halves of two different worlds ate away inside of you, but that was a topic for another day. She huffed in defeat and messed with the cape on her one more time. “Well that’s fine. Our stuff is already there, and as it is we’re late.”
She offered her hand to you, and you grimaced. “Oh no, please not this again.”
“It’s the fastest form of travel! You’ll need to get used to it.”
“It makes me feel sick,” you mumbled. She wiggled her fingers at you and you sighed. Taking her hand in yours, she led the way. You walked side by side down the hall on the first floor, and in a second were in a new location. Apparating still left your stomach in a twist, it may be effective but certainly not your favorite form of travel.
Night was falling quickly, and at the same pace as inside the house, you walked side by side, hand in hand, amongst others. The same air snapping sound rippled around you as others Apparated and approached the stadium.
The Quidditch World Cup was something your mother had been looking forward to for weeks. After receiving a personal invitation from the Minister of Magic, she insisted they both attend. With each flight of stairs upwards her stomach flipped more and more than when they Apparated. The large crowd trying to reach their respective seats was hard to navigate through, you even knocked into a boy around your age, but could barely mumble an apology as your mother kept pulling you in different directions.
Finally, the loud yells were hushed when a curtain was peeled back and they entered their destination. The private booth was full of others dressed almost like your mother. Eccentric. She detached her hand from yours as she approached a man, and you followed behind like a lost puppy. You were uncomfortable in this unknown place, with these unknown faces, and messed with the sleeves of your flannel. Your mother seemed to smile hugely, which was a rare occurrence to see, when the shorter and stout man met her eye.
“Althea,” he breathed. She laughed as he engulfed her hand with his large ones. “My it’s been so long.”
“It has Cornelius,” your mother replied. “You don’t look any different.”
He laughed and tapped her hand still in his. “Either you’re lying or you’ve been gone too long.”
“Too long,” she confirmed with a smile. The man called Cornelius looked behind him and called another unfamiliar name and a woman came over. After more laughs and smiles and embraces, your mother wandered over to what appeared to be a father and son duo. “I see you’ve grown your hair out Lucius.”
The taller man turned around, and without even a flicker down to you, his cold face erupted in it’s own smile. It felt uncomfortable to see, like it wasn’t genuine, but either way your mother embraced him
“Is this Draco?” She asked after a few moments. The man placed his ringed hand on his son's shoulder and looked to give it a good squeeze. Your eyes met the look of the young boy, while his father spoke.
“The one and only,” Lucius answered. That’s when his eyes looked down on you, and settled into something you couldn’t quite place. “And who is this?”
Ouch. So she knew of his son but he didn’t know of her daughter? You felt a pang of insult form at the back of your mind, but your mother stepped behind you and gripped onto your shoulders. It was as if she was offering reassurance. “This is my daughter. (Y/N).”
Lucius let out a humph, not disassociated but not satisfied either. His cold eyes went back to your mother and with instruction told his son, Draco, to not be rude as the parents stole one another away. You awkwardly stood before Draco, who overlooked you in some kind of judgement.
“My father never mentioned your mother had a daughter,” he finally said to break the silence. All you could do was shrug.
“My mother never mentioned either of you existed,” you said back. Draco’s brow lifted a bit, intrigued it seemed.
“You’re American,” he said.
“Guilty as charged,” you replied. Draco grinned a bit, before glancing around the room. His eyes hesitated for a moment, and you looked over to where his gaze paused. Another boy, older with dirty blonde hair and a nice smile, stood beside a man. Draco seemed to turn you away quickly and out towards the Quidditch field.
“So you’ll be coming to Hogwarts then?” He asked. Your hands reached out to hold onto the railing as you reached your body past to get a good look around.
“Against my own free will,” you joked. Draco huffed, laced behind another grin. “You’ll be the first person I know.”
Draco saw his opportunity, his eyes catching the far away look of the bunch he had just seen while travelling up here. His hands clutched the railing as well and motioned with his head across the field. “More than happy to give you the inside scoop, from one Slytherin to another.”
Hm, made sense. Your mother had explained her house background, and he seemed to fit the description to a T. You fought the urge to roll your eyes, but Draco pulled something from the side. It was like a magnifier, and he positioned it before you both, on a group of people. You glanced his way in confusion, but he began to explain his antics.
“See those red headed freaks? Those are the Weasleys. They’re pureblood like our families, but the father is fascinated with muggles. Their mother makes their clothes, and they share hand-me-downs. The twins are in Fifth year, the other one Ron is in our year, and the girl is below us. Awful family.
“Then next to them is Harry Potter,” Draco spat his name out. You raised a brow at the recognition of the name. You had heard of the Potters, though it was only small information. “He thinks he’s the bloody center of the world. Can’t believe he’s the Chosen One.
“That girl with the bushy hair is Hermione Granger,” he scoffed. “Thinks she’s so witty, but she’s nothing more than a mudblood.”
Can blood freeze? You shifted your weight a bit when the warm air seemed to hit you straight on. The Minister announced the start of the match (maybe, you weren’t too sure) but you looked over at the platinum blonde and inhaled a bit too sharply.
“Mudblood?” You repeated. Draco glanced your way before looking back to the field.
“Right, you probably don’t know the term. She’s of non-witch blood, bloody pathetic, not even half witch. Don’t know how she got into this school. It’s gone down the drain if you ask me.”
“I didn’t,” you stated. Draco looked over at you as if he wanted to rebut your statement, but a hand dropped down on your shoulder. You looked behind you and sighed a bit, the tension leaving your body though your fist were still tight in a ball you didn’t realize had formed. Draco’s expression fell, and your mother gave you a squeeze.
“You two doing alright?”
“Peachy,” you mumbled. Her thumb rubbed the back of your shoulder, before turning you to face her, and small tsk’s leaving her lips.
“Sweetie why don’t you go back down and get some fresh air?” She offered. You glanced back over to Draco, who looked uncomfortable in this moment, and nodded a bit. It was too pretentious in here anyway.
All the way back down, bumping past bodies you wouldn’t remember as more time passed, you felt the frustration reaching a boil. Finally as you pushed past the final set of bodies you breathed in the empty air.
You weren’t dumb, you liked to believe you were far from it. In ways your parents had tried to warn you about how people could be once they learned of your true lineage. You knew people could be cruel, that’s why being here, being brought to the world your mother had lived in, was so.. Wrong. You could only imagine the possibility it could get worse, the names they would call you.
No one deserved that.
Your frustration toppled over in a gust of wind that blew pieces of trash away from where you stood, blew the flaps on surroundings tents, but the release felt better than holding it in. In deep breathes you attempted to calm your mind, uncurling your fists and easing yourself into some foldable seats left out. You were sure the owners wouldn’t mind.
There were chants and hollers coming from the stadium, but they sounded far away. Your mind was drifting back to the thought of home, where you should be right now, and didn’t hear the crunch of grass as someone approached. “Mind if I join you?”
You averted your attention to the voice, met with the welcoming look of the other boy inside that pristine booth. You glanced at the chair beside you and nodded. “Sure.”
He smiled a bit, the one you recounted as being nice, and took the seat next to you. Your knees touched ever so slightly, and he leaned forward to rest his elbows on his legs, glancing up at the twirling lights in the sky. There was an awkward silence, one you didn’t know how to break or if you even should. Thankfully, he seemed to know how. “I couldn’t help but overhear what Draco was saying.”
You looked over at him, but his gaze still lingered up in the sky. It was an invitation to talk about it, and you couldn’t help but accept it. You rubbed your hands together and stole a glance at the ground. “I just can’t believe he uses a term like that so vilely.”
“Unfortunately there’s been a lot of prejudice circulating around recently,” he trailed off. You looked up to meet his gaze, and he offered a smile. “But don’t let Malfoy get to you.”
You wanted to scoff, but your throat couldn’t produce the sound. Instead you simply nodded, only to catch the slight lean in from your company. “Are you coming to Hogwarts this year?”
“It.. Looks that way yeah,” you answered sheepishly. He smiled even wider and offered his hand out to you.
“I’m Cedric,” he introduced. You hesitated only for a moment before taking his hand in yours.
“(Y/N),” you replied with a shake of your hand. His hand was warm, and nearly engulfed your own. The moment only lasted for a few seconds before shouting from the match drew both your attention, and your hands from one another. The slight gust of wind brought a fresh scent that would stick in your mind for the rest of the night.
Worn leather, the fresh scent of laundry detergent, and a hint of butterscotch.
