I just read ur halloween fic!! And it's adorable!! Can I also request a prompt? This is their highschool years btw and its about Hizashi, Shouta, Oboro, Nemuri, Kan and Tensei having a halloween party and also having a contest on who could have the best costumes! And the two winners would be going on a date. This was set up by Nemuri, Oboro, Kan and Tensei cause they know that Shouta and Hizashi had been dancing around each other for a few years and they wanted to help. So yeah XD Hizashi goes as Hatsune Miku! Which as he likes to call it, Present Miku! XD
Happy Halloween! I’m sorry this took *forever*, but it became much longer than anticipated. I loved the whole idea of Present Miku! Hope you enjoy!
Sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes!
Title: Present Miku
If only he had put a bit more effort into his costume, his friend Kan wouldn’t have felt as personally offended.
“You know, you could have at least bought one from the dollar store instead of wearing your black curtains as a cape,” Kan remarked, crossing his arms.
Shouta shrugged as he sat down next to Oboro, “I wasn’t going to come in a costume, but Nemuri warned me that if I didn’t dress up then she would make a scene on my birthday.”
“What type of scene?” Oboro asked, getting comfortable on the couch as he opened his tenth candy wrapper for the night.
“She didn’t specify, but honestly, I‘d rather not know,” Shouta responded, laying back on the couch as he gestured for Oboro to grab him a candy from the bowl.
Even if it wasn’t his original idea to attend the party, he had to admit, Tensei’s house was pretty impressive. From the moment he stepped onto the front gates, Shouta felt out of place with his cheap cape and DIY fangs. As the gates opened, he could see the massive garden filled with colorful plants and fancy statues. There was even a mini pond with lily pads that ran probably the bluest water Shouta had ever seen.
As he approached the huge double doors, Tensei was already waiting for him with that flashy smile that captivated everyone in class 1-A. With the best grades in the class, and being a descendant from a family of heroes, it was no wonder he became the president of 1-A.
When Shouta first arrived at class 1-A after transferring from General Studies, he hadn’t expected such a warm welcome from the president. The one from General Studies displayed a high ego and God complex that was unbearable most of the time. Tensei let Shouta feel included the second he entered his new classroom, and introduced him to Hizashi and Oboro - his current two best friends.
As Tensei let him inside the house, he was greeted by an ecstatic Nemuri, who was wearing a scantily clad Poison Ivy costume. Already seeing Tensei’s detailed costume of Link from Legend of Zelda and the custom made Poison Ivy outfit from Nemuri made Shouta feel like the odd one out with his poor excuse of a costume. It didn’t help immediately getting berated by Kan for “not putting effort into his Dracula costume”. Though he had to admit; he completely forgot about Kan’s attendance and how...insensitive it would be to come with a poorly done Dracula outfit. Kan’s family, who all have similar quirks that deal with blood, practically venerate the Draculian lore.
Kan was dressed as a chef, claiming the film Ratatouille inspired him. Shouta just rolled his eyes at the explanation and walked towards the living room. His eyes scanned the enormous living room, finding Oboro sitting down on a couch that probably cost more than his parent’s apartment.
He currently sat on that same couch, waiting for the last person to arrive. He sighed as Oboro’s white wings hit him in the face again for the fifth time. His friend opted to dress as an angel, and his explanation was even worse than Kan’s.
“Well, for one, I am an angel. Two, I am really feeling like acting as Cupid today,” Oboro stated, fluttering his eyes as he smiled at Shouta.
Shouta groaned, “are you sure it isn’t an excuse to use your clouds as a substitute for pants?”
Oboro cackled as he handed Shouta a piece of chocolate. They began talking with Kan about the scariest experiences they had with the supposed supernatural. Kan was in the middle of explaining the footsteps he used to hear walking back and forth on his apartment’s hallway at 3 in the morning when the lights were suddenly turned off.
Shouta looked at Oboro in confusion, who stared back at him with the same puzzlement. Rays of lights invaded the room as a certain pop song blared through the speakers. Shouta winced as he covered his ears. The loud music sort of reminded him of someone…
Tensei appeared from the entrance of the living room, looking unfazed. He turned on the microphone he was holding, which let out an unpleasant howling noise. Tensei smiled apologetically, and sighed before using the microphone to speak.
“People of Halloweentown, get ready for the greatest pop star of our generation. Please receive the wondrous, fantastic, fabulous, talented, and amazing: Present Miku!”
Nemuri released a giant confetti cannon, which sprinkled all across the room - blinding Shouta. Of course, Shouta thought, Hizashi would be one for dramatic entrances.
Hizashi suddenly appeared with a microphone on his hands, and began lip-syncing to the song that was still playing from the speakers. Kan leaned towards Shouta and Oboro as he covered his ears.
“What song is this?!” He yelled, yet Shouta could barely hear him as the song blasted through their ears. Oboro laughed hysterically as he moved to the beat of the song.
“It’s a Hatsune Miku song!” Oboro replied, “I think it is called ‘Desert Wolf’!”
“Is it the vocaloid girl he is obsessed about?” Shouta asked. His ears finally adjusted to the loudness that invaded the room. Someone would have believed he was prepared to be bombarded with sound, considering he was friends with Hizashi, the classmate with a Voice quirk.
Oboro smiled widely. “What do you think?” he said, pointing at Hizashi.
A long teal hair tied in pigtails adorned Hizashi’s head, falling to his hips. He wore a grey shirt that traced his waist with a black skirt. Shouta’s eyes lingered towards the bottom, where Hizashi posed with thigh high boots.
Shouta had to admit, Hizashi looked really nice.
It was clear that out of everyone here, especially Shouta, Hizashi put the most effort into his costume. He even had the clothing piece on his arms glow a color similar to turquoise. His tie had his name ‘Present Miku’ engraved on the top, with small pins of Hatsune Miku attached.
Shouta caught Nemuri glancing at him, wiggling her eyebrows. He couldn’t help the slight blush that crept on his face as he looked away.
The song soon ended, and Hizashi bowed, receiving applause from his friends. Oboro and Nemuri clapped loud and sincere, while Shouta and Kan clapped rather unenthusiastically.
Hizashi proceeded to plop down in between Oboro and Shouta, putting his arms around them as he hugged them tightly.
“Happy Halloween you two!” He exclaimed, flashing his brightest grin.
“Took you long enough to arrive,” Shouta grumbled, leaning towards Hizashi’s embrace. He’s used to Hizashi’s shoulder being his personal pillow as he took a quick nap.
He didn’t notice the way Oboro and Kan exchanged knowing looks to one another. They looked back to Nemuri, who nodded once in agreement. She approached the center of the room - heels clanking loudly.
“As you know, there was supposed to be a costume contest,” she reminded, looking at Shouta with those disapproving eyes again.
“The two people who win will get to go on a ‘fake’ date inside that door,” Nemuri explained, pointing her fingers at the closed white double doors at the right side of the room.
“Tensei decorated it so that it may seem as authentic as possible.”
“Authentic to what?” Shouta asked with his eyes closed, still leaning on Hizashi.
“To a date, Shouta,” Nemuri replied with a smug smile, “so let’s start with the first lucky winner!”
“Why do we need to do this now?” Shouta complained, “and also, don’t you think it is weird to make two people go on a forced date?”
“Shut up, Shouta,” Nemuri scolded, being one of the few people that isn’t afraid to argue with him. His intimidating look might work on his classmates, but his upperclassmen friend isn’t threatened by those judging eyes.
“Alright, remember not to vote for yourself!” Nemuri added, “pick a paper and once you write down your pick, just place it on this bowl.”
She gleefully walked towards Tensei and sat next to him, writing down a name with her personal calligraphy pen. Shouta sighed as Hizashi passed him a piece of paper and pen. Might as well get this over with.
He stared at the paper for a moment, remembering the details of everyone’s costumes. He didn’t even know why he was analyzing the costumes when he already knew the answer.
He carefully wrote Hizashi’s name, tracing back the letters as he finished. He rarely got to write his friend’s name, yet it felt so familiar to him.
He placed his paper into the bowl, and leaned back on the couch as he waited for the last person to cast their vote. Once Kan, the last one to vote, slipped his paper into the bowl, Tensei grabbed it and started counting.
As they waited, Hizashi was acting as the DJ for the party, though it mostly consisted of Hatsune Miku songs. Shouta stood up once to grab a piece of pigs in a blanket. As he ate the small party appetizer, he sneaked a peek at Hizashi, who was dancing to the music with Nemuri. Shouta never knew Hizashi was talented at moving his hips. His heartbeat began quickening-
“I have counted the votes!” Tensei announced, beaming in front of his friends.
“The winner is…” he began, and Oboro began tapping the table to mimic drums.
“Present Miku!”
Hizashi squealed, jumping up and down with Nemuri.
“Can’t wait to see who will be my date!”
“I feel like I know who,” Nemuri answered, looking straight at Shouta as she winked. What was she trying to say?
“Let’s not waste time and pick the second winner!” Nemuri sang, already picking up her piece of paper.
“Wow, someone is excited,” Shouta joked in his deadpanned time. Nemuri stuck her tongue out at him before handing him another piece of paper. Shouta sighed again, but this time louder than before.
Hizashi was busy talking to Oboro to notice Shouta next to him. Shouta wasn’t listening to their conversation - too busy thinking on who he would pick. I mean, it isn’t a hard choice. Just pick the second best costume.
Still, there was something impeding him from writing another name. He knew it was just a stupid date that meant nothing other than a way for his friends to tease the ones that got chosen.
Whoever got chosen meant they were going on a “date” with Hizashi. Shouta couldn’t explain why he felt an aching in his heart as he thought about it.
He brushed off his thoughts and wrote Kan as his answer. He didn’t know why he chose Kan, since he was sure everyone would probably pick Tensei. The speedster definitely had the second best costume at the party.
Maybe it was the thought of seeing Hizashi and Tensei having a happy date at the other side of the room that swayed his decision. He knew Hizashi wasn’t interested in Kan, especially after that time Kan told him about the pet tarantula he used to have as a kid.
Tensei, on the other hand, always seemed to make Hizashi smile with his stories about his baby brother Iida.
Shouta could never make Hizashi smile the same way.
Shouta felt someone flick a finger on his forehead, bringing him back to Earth. He turned to see Hizashi smiling fondly at him.
“Shouta, are you done?” Oboro whined, “I want to know the next winner!”
Shouta hadn’t realized he was the last one left to place his vote. He quickly stood up and dropped his paper into the bowl as he ignored everyone’s stares.
“Are you ready to know who your date is?” Nemuri teased Hizashi. The blonde man simply raised his thumb in excitement as he jumped up and down his seat.
Tensei didn’t take long to count votes, considering there were only six of them. Shouta just sat there, wondering how Tensei felt about receiving most of the votes. He knew he wasn’t going to win, so why did he keep feeling this pain on his chest?
“Guys, the final vote has been determined!” Tensei announced, standing up from his chair. Shouta briefly caught Nemuri giggling with Oboro and Kan giving a nod of approval to Tensei.
Now that Shouta thought about it - the four had been acting very suspicious throughout the night.
“And the winner is,” Tensei started, gesturing for Oboro to do his dramatic drums.
“Dracula!”
Everyone in the room cheered, except for two people. Shouta didn’t know how to process what had just happened. He just gazed at Hizashi, who was noticeably pale.
He was probably expecting someone else.
“I can’t believe my two best friends won!” Oboro shouted, “don’t try to have too much fun inside there. Got it?”
Shouta noticed Tensei helping Hizashi towards the other room. He noticed the loud hero unusually quiet - blindly following the blue-haired man. His vision was obstructed by Nemuri standing in front of him with a deceiving smile on her lips.
“Are you ready, big boy?”
“Nemuri, I don’t know what is going on but this was definitely a set-up,” Shouta blurted, “and I don’t like it one bit.”
“Sure you don’t, grumpy cat,” she replied, “c’mon, your date is waiting.”
Before he knew it, Nemuri shoved him inside a dining room. The table only contained two chairs and was decorated with a white tablecloth and a rose in the middle. The plates already had a small meal, which included a portion of lobster.
Hizashi was sitting down, looking back at Shouta with an apologetic smile.
“I’m sorry they put you through this,” Hizashi said, “I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable.”
“It’s fine,” Shouta answered a little too quickly. He was still shocked over the obvious setup from his friends. Why would they want him and Hizashi to go on a date?
Did they realize his feelings for Hizashi? Was this a cruel plan to get his feelings rejected by his crush?
He ignored his thoughts and sat down on the empty chair. The two stayed quiet for a long moment, nervous to even stare at each other.
Shouta broke the silence, “I don’t know why they chose me. I had the worst costume out of all of us.”
“I think you look cute!” Hizashi blurted out, blushing deeply as he realized what he said. Shouta’s cheeks also turned into that dreaded crimson color.
“Shouta…” Hizashi began, hesitance in his voice. The ravenette focused back on Hizashi, trying his best to compose his pumping heartbeat.
“I guess I feel a bit more confident in this outfit, but I just wanted to say…” Hizashi continued, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Hizashi just say it,” Shouta ordered, eyes fixated on Hizashi.
“I like you, Shouta!” Hizashi exclaimed, covering his mouth with both hands after he finished.
Shouta’s eyes widened at the revelation. His mouth dropped open in shock and the room grew dead silent. Both lay eyes on one another; fear of uncertainty emanating from both of them. Shouta lowered his arms, trembling as he grasped for his utensil.
“I- I like you too, Hizashi,” Shouta confessed, staring down at his plate.
“You- you do?” Hizashi cautiously asked, thinking he heard wrong. The silent teenager liked the loud one? Oh, the irony that is love.
Shouta nodded slowly, playing with his fork. He was surprised when Hizashi began to giggle loudly.
“I think I should take you on a real date!” Hizashi proclaimed with excitement. Shouta chuckled lightly, still a bit timid over the whole ordeal.
Shouta was never one to celebrate Halloween, but this year’s would definitely be unforgettable. He was celebrating it with his closest friends. His only friends.
But best of all, he was spending it with Present Miku - the best pop star in the world.
“So what do you say?” Hizashi asked eagerly, awaiting Shouta’s answer.
Shouta just beamed at Hizashi - showing off his DIY fangs.
“I think I’ll like that.”

she’s got a way - b. b.
Summary: Bucky Barnes x reader.
Bucky's birthday celebration at Avengers Tower! There's strobe lights and people dancing and cake.... all of which Bucky doesn't want. But maybe there's someone who can change that...
Inspiration/Song: She’s Got A Way - Billy Joel
Word Count: 3k
Tags: birthday!bucky , Tony Stark Party ™, just overall fluff
A/N: Sorry I’m multiple days late of his birthday!! I only started writing this on the night of his birthday and it’s taken me a few days of editing so it’s unfortunately late.
Hope ya’ll enjoy!! <3
------------
"Happy birthday, Buck!" Steve smiled, gesturing to the massive LED-lit room, pulsating with over a hundred people invited by Stark.
"We compiled a list of all the things you would want in a party, and then we did the exact opposite of that," Sam teased, knowing Stark would never allow for a birthday to go by in Avengers Tower with just a "simple night in" like Bucky had wanted.
Tony rolled his eyes, "Hey! I was just told to throw a 40's themed party, and I think I delivered!" He motioned to the decor, which was, in fact, on point. Though the music and LED lights were way off, the room was styled like a 40's dance hall and all the guests were wearing fitted brown suits or flared skirts. It was about as much as you'd expect from a 2019 40's party.
"Well, I'd bet that a lot of this is Steve's work and not yours," Sam joked.
"How come I always do all the work and he gets all the credit!" Stark rolled his eyes.
Bucky chuckled at his friends' attempts to celebrate and surprise him (they'd spent the entire day dragging him to different places around the compound so he wouldn't see the progress happening in the main room).
But though he smiled and thanked his friends for the party, his thoughts were elsewhere, immediately scanning the room to find something-- or rather, someone.
"She's on your eight 'o' clock, at the bar," Steve whispered discreetly to Bucky, knowing fully that the man had stopped paying attention to the group’s conversation a while ago.
Bucky eyes immediately snapped to the bar, not even bothering to argue with Steve that he wasn't looking for you (at this point, it was so obvious that he couldn't even argue if he tried).
Of course you were there. How had he not seen you. You were absolutely glowing, wearing a navy, lacy bralette-styled crop top with a matching navy skirt that flared out at the waist. Your hair curled down your shoulders, and the way it glowed in the pink and blue LED lights surrounding you felt like something out of a movie it was so beautiful.
"Jesus," Steve chuckled, "You're such a goner. Just tell her already."
Bucky still didn't dignify that with a response, instead brushing past him and beginning to walk toward you. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest-- but then again, that was nothing new when it came to dealing with you.
Your back was to him as you sat at the bar, laughing at something Wanda had just next to you.
Mid-sentence, Wanda caught sight of Bucky walking up, grinning as she stopped the conversation, "There's the birthday boy!"
Your head whipped around to find the man of the hour himself.
"You're here!" You exclaimed, spinning around and standing up from your stool, "Happy birthday, Bucky!" you threw yourself at him to wrap him in a big hug, catching him off guard. You'd only hugged him a few times in all the months you'd known each other, and Bucky could still name every single time it had happened, just as if it were yesterday.
You pulled away from the hug with a grin, and Bucky could smell your perfume as you flipped your hair over one shoulder. Good God, Steve was right. He was a goner.
"You look... amazing," he shook his head, unable to comment on anything else.
You spun around, letting the skirt's fabric swish as it spun around your thighs, "You like it? We spent all week trying to find something 40's enough. Gotta say it was harder than expected," you smiled up at him, "So eventually I just gave up and settled for this. Crop tops work for a 40's theme, right?" you teased.
"I wouldn't exactly call this 'settling' sweetheart," he huffed.
"Oh? Then what would you call it?" You asked, tilting your chin up.
He just looked down at you, trying his hardest to recall how to breathe. It had something to do with his lungs, right? He honestly couldn't remember, not with the way your eyes were shining as you looked at him with that beautiful, radiant smile.
"Bucky!"
A voice pulled him from his thoughts, and he tried not to curl his fists with annoyance at the interruption.
"Buck," it was Steve, "I figured we could do that 4-person dance we did sometimes back in the day," he suggested.
"Four person, huh?" Bucky replied, not taking his eyes off Y/N. He recognized this was Steve's way of getting Bucky and you to dance without putting much pressure on Bucky to ask you. Suddenly Bucky was a lot less annoyed with the interruption...
"That sounds incredible!" You piped up, grabbing Bucky's arm in excitement (in a way that totally didn't make him forget the concept of breathing again-- no, absolutely not).
"Perfect! Come on, we can try to teach it to ya before the next song comes on!"
You grinned and grabbed Bucky's hand, following Steve quickly back through the crowd with a tight grip on Bucky.
You were holding his hand.
You were holding his hand. HIS hand.
And then suddenly, you'd come to a clearing in the crowd as Steve found Nat and you were no longer holding his hand, you were holding BOTH of his hands as you turned to face him completely.
"So, you gonna show me how to do this or what, Sarge?"
He laughed to himself, "Are you challenging me?"
"Maybe I am."
You gasped as you were suddenly dipped low to the ground unexpectedly.
Bucky smiled down at you as he supported your weight, his face getting dangerously close to your own, "Challenging Bucky Barnes in a dance isn't a good idea, sweetheart."
He quickly swung you up before twirling you in a circle and bringing you back against his chest, much closer than you had been before.
"I beg to differ," you huffed, still surprised from all his abrupt yet perfectly-executed moves, "It appears to be the best decision I've made all night."
Bucky grinned at you.
Back when he had been finally released from Hydra's grasp, he was worried that he'd never be like his old self-- never be able to charm a dame or dance again.
But there was something about you, about all this... When he was out here twirling you around, he couldn't even remember the Winter Soldier. He was just Bucky, comfortable and happy as he had been all those years ago.
"Would you two stop messing around and actually learn the dance partner switch part?" Nat joked, "We've been waiting for your asses for forever now!"
You only laughed and let go of Bucky's hands, "Alright, so teach us!"
Bucky groaned slightly at your letting go of his hands, so you quietly reached back and took his hand in yours as you continued to watch Steve and Nat show you the switching part.
Bucky's brain stopped working as he immediately stopped paying attention to the dance instruction and started going over a million questions about why you had just voluntarily taken his hand for no reason other than to just hold it.
W h a t.
But before you could even finish learning the steps, the 40's song that they'd requested for this specific dance had started and suddenly you had to just start.
You laughed and turned back to Bucky, who immediately slid into leading you through complicated dance moves. You followed along as best as you could, but just giggled the entire way through when you couldn't fully match him. These steps were not at all anything that Nat and Steve had just been doing, but Bucky was doing fabulously anyway, and he seemed to hardly notice that he wasn't doing the same moves.
Then suddenly, he was twirling you around to go toward Steve and switch partners. You laughed as Bucky's fluid dancing led you into knocking into Steve, who then proceeded to lead you very poorly through the dance.
You could hardly keep with the steps you were laughing so hard, "Steve," you wheezed, "You're awful at this!"
"You're not helping by standing there laughing!" Steve called back, but he was too busy laughing to be able to properly scold you for it.
Eventually you had to stop even bothering moving your feet because you both were bent over laughing with tears in your eyes.
Meanwhile you could see Nat and Bucky fighting for who was leading between the two.
"Cool it, Nat, I'm the boy let me lead--"
"Who says that men should lead? Steve and I were just doing fantastic with me leading..."
"Oh, come on!" Bucky argued back, as he forced her into a spin.
This had turned into an utter mess, and it only made you laugh harder.
Before you knew it, suddenly Nat was dragging you away to be her partner, exclaiming something about how boys suck.
You threw your head back with a grin and went along with it, letting her lead. She glared over at the boys as she dipped you and spun you around, trying to show off how much better this was working without men around.
You laughed even harder as you watched Bucky and Steve start dancing together to prove her wrong, instead proving her completely correct as they did terribly.
"Just admit it, you guys are terrible dancers!" She called over to them.
"Never!" Bucky argued.
"Alright, alright, I'll admit it if it means I can get my girlfriend back, Jesus Christ!" Steve whined playfully.
Nat chuckled, and just before the song was over, she spun you around forcefully, sending you in the opposite direction.
Dizzy, you nearly toppled to the ground before a pair of strong arms caught you just in time.
You blinked, regaining your bearings as Bucky stood you back up on your feet.
"Thanks," you smiled up at him.
He shrugged a shoulder, not breaking eye contact, "Super soldier reflexes."
"Mhmm," you grinned wider, just staring into his beautiful, deep blue eyes.
After what you realized had been too long of a silence, you coughed and turned back to yell at Nat for her recklessness in an attempt to hide what had just happened. But suddenly you couldn't see her anymore. You turned to your other side and realized you couldn't see Steve anymore either. Oh.
You looked back to Bucky who must've just come to the same realization.
"Looks like it's just the two of us, doll," he said, his eyes flickering between your eyes and your lips as a new song began playing:
She's got a way about her
I don't know what it is
But I know that I can't live without her...
He slid one hand down to the small of your waist and took the other one, holding it up in his without taking his eyes off you.
He began swaying you back and forth in time with the soft rhythm of the song.
"You know this song, Buck? Billy Joel?" You asked softly.
Bucky shook his head. While Bucky had never heard it before, he knew that it was immediately gonna be his favorite forever. The lyrics poured into his ears and he couldn't help but feel that someone had written down every single one of his thoughts about you and put them in a single song.
"Billy Joel is one of my favorites," you smiled, "Maybe I'll show you some more of his songs later."
She comes to me
when I'm feeling down
Inspires me without a sound
He liked the sound of that. A promise. "Later." More time with you later.
She touches me
and I get turned around...
He smiled at the lyric and spun you around slowly, watching your skirt fan out and recollect around you as you giggled at his mimicking the song. You grinned up at him.
She's got a smile that heals me
I don't know why it is...
He was forgetting how to breathe again as you leaned into him and rested your head against his shoulder.
But I know that I can't live without her anyway...
"Y/N?" He piped up at one point, his voice hoarse with nerves as he decided on what he was about to finally say.
"Yeah?" you asked, pulling away to look him in the eyes.
Oh God, no, this was way harder with you looking him in the eyes.
"There's something I've been wanting to--"
Before he could find the words, the music was coming to a stop and a voice was overtaking the speakers, "Alright, alright! So, you all came here to celebrate the birthday of the oldest man in the room..." Stark's annoyingly timed voice announced.
Suddenly everyone in the room was turning to you two. You awkwardly pulled away from him, wanting to avoid the attention of everyone in the room. Bucky looked between the crowd to you.
No, no, no! Fuck!
"-- meaning it's time to wish a happy 102nd birthday to our very own tin man--" Stark was saying, as Sam came up and began dragging him away toward the cake.
"Wait, Y/N, I--" but you'd been lost in the crowd.
Bucky huffed, allowing himself to be dragged away as he frowned at the spot where the two of you had just been standing, dancing.
Sam led him to a grand table with all the Avengers already there waiting. Except you.
The crowd, led by a smug Stark, led a too-loud-and-off-key version of 'Happy Birthday' that made Bucky want to cover his ears.
But Steve had a hand on his shoulder and was looking at him so happily that Bucky attempted to shake off his bad mood and enjoy the gesture. They'd come a long way since the Accords, and he was grateful to no longer be the most loathed member of the Avengers.
Then the song was over, and a massive sheet cake was being brought over with must be a hundred candles.
"That's gotta be a fire hazard," he muttered with a chuckle. The candles had been your idea; you'd thought it was hilarious when you suggested last week that they actually put one hundred and two candles on the cake and see if he could blow them all out with one go.
Suffice to say, he could not. Everyone in the room laughed as he attempted many times to get all the candles to die out.
Once the candles were finally out, though, and attention was finally seeping off of Bucky as everyone returned to their own conversations, Bucky's thoughts immediately returned to finding you.
The room was in chaos, and all the Avengers were still trying to give him happy birthday wishes that he didn't care to hear. It didn't help as a flock of waitresses began flooding the room to hand out slices of cake.
Bucky turned to check the other side of the room as a plate with a massive slice was being pushed into his hands.
"Oh, no thanks I don't want any--" he started, but froze as he found himself face to face with you.
"Well, that's unfortunate," you said matter-of-factly as you held up the two forks in your hands, "'cuz I was hoping to share it with you."
He stared into your shining eyes for a moment, a smile slipping onto his face. Of course. Why had he not thought of this?
The moment was broken as someone accidentally bumped into him, almost sending the cake in his hands flying if you hadn't caught it just in time.
You giggled as he resettled on his feet, "’Good reflexes’, huh, Sarge?"
"Shut up," he grinned, "Here, just follow me," taking the cake back, he interlaced his fingers with yours and began to lead you through the crowd.
Butterflies rose in your chest as you looked down at your hands together-- and it finally wasn't because you had initiated it.
You'd made it through to the other side of the room, and Bucky was letting go of your hand to open the balcony's sliding doors. You followed him outside and to the balcony's thick railing, where he placed the cake plate.
"Outside, huh? This is your solution? Buck, it's like 40 degrees out here and I'm in a crop top," you argued, mirthfully.
"They say that cake tastes better outside," Bucky told you, taking one of the forks from your hand.
You laughed, "No one has ever said that, Barnes."
"Well, now I have," he decided jokingly as he began sliding his coat off, "'James Barnes, March 10th 2019.'"
You grinned as he slipped the warm fabric across your shoulders, "Well, then this better be the best cake I've ever had, James Barnes."
He shushed you before sliding his fork through the cake to grab a generous bite. You watched as he brought the piece into his mouth, giving it a moment before humming at its amazing taste.
"Eat your words, Y/N," he said, swallowing his piece and going for another, "This tastes fantastic."
"Oh, shut up," you knocked his shoulder, "It's only 'cuz Pepper's fabulous at picking cakes." You took a bite of your own, and fought back your own hum of enjoyment. Seriously, Pepper was good.
He shrugged, "I'm still right, though."
"You just got lucky," you shook your head, taking another bite.
"You're right, I did," he answered, his eyes locked on you.
You blinked, turning to him. You stared at each other for a long moment, before Bucky stood up to face you fully.
Your breathing stopped as Bucky took your fork and put it on the plate with his, pushing them both aside disregardingly as he brought up a hand to your cheek.
You gasped slightly as he began leaning toward you. Your eyes fluttered closed, and you sighed as your lips connected.
Months of waiting for Bucky to make a move, and finally he had.
After a short kiss, he pulled back, his brow furrowed as he tried to assess how you felt about it.
You giggled breathily, the taste of cake from his mouth on your tongue.
"What?" he asked.
"I believe you've just proved your point, James Barnes," you said, "Cake tastes much better outside.”
He gave a short laugh before immediately pulling you in for another kiss. You complied happily.
"Wait, wait,” you pulled away slightly, “do you hear that?" A large grin spread across your face.
He frowned, attempting to listen for whatever you were talking about. He couldn’t hear anything besides the loud chatter of the crowd, until there. A muffled song from inside playing underneath all the conversations...
She's got a way about her...
"I told Sam if he didn't make the playlist longer, we'd have repeats," you giggled as you buried your face in Bucky's chest.
One of Bucky's hand smoothly slid over to take yours as he began swaying to his new favorite song.
"Remind me to thank Sam later, then."

A Musical Wish List Challenge
If you owned ten theatres in The West End / Broadway what ten shows would you put on?
Got this idea from quite a few Twitter posts I came across.
Here’s mine:
10) Once on this Island
Tumblr media
This one made my list because I LOVE the soundtrack! Despite never having seen it ever I can say I’m definitely a fan considering it is my most played soundtrack when travelling between Liverpool and London!
9) Beautiful: The Carole King Musical
Tumblr media
As the title indicates this show is beautiful! The songs are fabulous! How one woman possesses so much talent is beyond me! A must see show for sure. I’ve seen it once before and I definitely hope to see it again someday!
8) Gypsy
So there’s a definite theme emerging because I haven’t seen this show in the flesh either! Look, I love me a good soundtrack and I love me a bit of Rose! All I want is to see Imelda Staunton reprise the role in the flesh! IS THAT REALLY TOO MUCH TO ASK?!
Tumblr media
7) Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street
Tumblr media
... And reprise the role of Ms Lovett too! I did manage to catch a production of Sweeney Todd at The Everyman in Liverpool! It was fantastic despite having a low(ish) budget so I’m sure a West End revival would be phenomenal! Little Mo was Ms Lovett in the version I saw and was great!
6) Spring Awakening
Tumblr media
Who doesn't love a musical that makes you cry? I absolutely love Spring Awakening and unfortunately have only been able to see a recorded version of the show! BRING THIS BACK WEST END! I just want to see it live so badly!
5) Fame
Tumblr media
So I couldn't find a gif that wasn't random and unrelated to the musical or Lady Gaga. This is one I’ve seen live (shocking I know)! It is fantastic and was a musical that definitely inspired me in some capacity to study drama at university though I am slightly disappointed at the lack of Yellow Taxis and unacceptability of randomly bursting into song.
4) Legally Blonde / Mean Girls
Tumblr media
I couldn’t choose! I have seen Legally Blonde and love it immensely! I just feel like these two shows have the same energy! I would probably choose Mean Girls just because I haven't seen it but I had to give Elle Woods a gif and a shout out!
3) Six
Tumblr media
#SorryNotSorry for this choice. Despite not seeing this musical I could recite all the lyrics off the top of my head at any given moment its just so catchy! Also a musical about the wives of HenryVIII- the most interesting wives in history? Yes please!
2) Les Miserables
Tumblr media
Do I even need to explain why? Amazing. Next.
1) Little Shop Of Horrors
Tumblr media
It has to be my all time favourite musical with my dream role Seymour Krelborn! Seymour and Audrey are two characters who I rate massively and they both have great songs! The story also relies largely on an alien plant who eats everybody- so what's not to love?!
** Depending on my mood I would probably switch a few out for Waitress, Book of Mormon, Falsettos and Chicago... and probably loads more lol! AND OF COURSE EVERYBODY’S TALKING ABOUT JAMIE! I’m terrible at choosing and making a definite decision lol.

Blog Post:
Tumblr media
Accessories are a trusting friend that you can always rely on. From those pair of earrings that add marvellous moments of sparkle to an evening look or your go-to necklace that an everyday outfit just wouldn’t be the same without. They are always there, the cherry on top. Often, also a moment of impulse, accessories are a shiny form of indulgence that we just can’t resist. Simply a new bag or belt can be a sly trick to the eye so nobody notices you’re wearing the same dress as last Saturday! A quick purchase on a whim or a classic that can be found at the top of your jewellery box, accessories are always an amazing way to reinvent an outfit and style it a new way. So we wanted to indulge you in 5 fabulous accessory trends that can be perfectly matched to some of our Mellaris dresses and jumpsuits from our S/S19 collection.
Tumblr media
‘Golden Hour’
Whilst metallics amongst jewellery will always remain a dominant favourite, trends within the metallic family do noticeably come and go. Once rose gold was the crowning must have, but as seasons continue to turn over, gold this year seems to be a reoccurring fan favourite. May it be the perfect pairing for the popular golden hour selfie, this trend appears to be going no where as it continues to be one of the ‘it’ trends of the year. The beautiful Meteora dress and flattering ‘v’ shape neckline paired with a layering of delicate golden necklaces and an array of rings is a stunning way to finish off this summer look. Completing this floral fantasy with golden, yet dainty, jewellery seems to be just one of the ways of bringing the sun and beach back home whilst enjoying a cocktail or two on a sunny afternoon.
Tumblr media
‘Wearing Nature’
Fashion as ever continues to echo the waves society makes, whether it be through political or cultural shifts, these influences are replicated through shape, fabric or silhouette. As sustainability becomes a rising discussion, high-street and high-end fashion designers have turned their heads to wearing nature. Bags, belts and earrings a like are trending in the form of wooden beads and splints, catering to all of our woven accessory needs. These more favourable decomposable materials additionally make for a neutral colour palette of Instagram-able dreams, ensuring that this trend is going no where any time soon. The Katrina dress is a tropical paradise draped into a chic Bardot silhouette, making this array of blues and greens the perfect foundation for layering your naturalistic accessories. Either a statement over sized woven basket or a petite beaded purse would be a perfect pairing for this summery dress.
Tumblr media
‘Petite Purse’
In February, designer label Jacquemus took on the reigning small bag trend, shrunk it and took it to new heights. Beaded, faux-croc and transparent, we want them all. This understated accessory might just be the biggest trending statement in fashion right now, and whilst these days all you need is your contactless, lippy and your phone, the petite purse really is the perfect size. The Billy jumpsuit needs no introduction, this electric statement piece comes in three colours, red and black, and we’re just mad about the yellow. This stand out look is not for the faint hearted and whilst all eyes are on you, the petite purse is just the perfect accessory to tell everybody you’re wearing the outfit, and it’s certainly not wearing you.
Tumblr media
‘Starry Eyed’
We’re all starry eyed for this astrology trend that encapsulates not only a touch glamour, but personalisation too. Zodiac and constellation necklaces are a great thoughtful gift, or a treat for yourself, that is subtly personalised and timeless. The Tessa dress is a fashionable classic, so shoot for the stars with your accessories and add a touch of sparkle for a special occasion. Dainty diamante rings encrusted into moons and stars are a trendy pairing with this romanic red number. Seen as there’s no such thing as too much sparkle, why stop there? Complete this look with a hair-slide or two and last but not least, a dazzling pair of earrings.
Tumblr media
‘Hair Styling’
With the fashion community in a frenzy over hair accessories, it’s hard to remember a time before the hype and styling yourself H to T wasn’t taken so literally. The continuous influx of hair styling products, hair-ties, hairbands and clips, is a refreshing take on accessorising, fuelling us with new ways to style our outfits. The Livia dress is modern outlook on the little black dress, and a 21st century take on Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffanys Givenchy iconic look. Any woman wearing the Livia dress, however, is certainly no window shopper. Instead, our modern woman is more likely to be having breakfast staring out of the window of a bottomless brunch restaurant. She’s always on trend, and therefore never an outsider! Rather than a string of pearls, complete your LBD with a pear hairband or clip to complete this modern twist on an old classic.
We hope this style edit has inspired you and gave you an array of new ideas on how to style your Mellaris dresses and jumpsuits. Our flattering silhouettes and fantastic florals offer an underlying classic style that makes them so diverse and adaptable for new upcoming trends. With our A/W19 collection almost ready for release, we can’t wait to showcase to you more amazing designs that we have up our sleeve.

Killian is the best Valjean i’ve ever seen he hits all the high notes his acting is superb he just embodies everything jean valjean and i will treasure his stint as JVJ for as long as i live
* Katie Hall as Fantine was amazing!!! you really got the sense that fantine wasn’t this ‘can-do-no-wrong angelic woman’ but literally a young girl forced into terrible circumstances which Katie played SO WELL holy fuck. her acting with javert and JVJ was just stellar
* Javert was Nic Greenfields and he. was. INCREDIBLE!!! stars honestly had me in tears what the fuck man it was beautiful and he was like slowly getting more haggard as the musical went on and khlgkfk I LOVED HIM
* Cosette was Bronwen Hanson and she was the smiliest Cosette i’ve ever seen it was so pure you could really see her as just the embodiment of light and hope and her scenes with Marius was A+++
* Speaking of Marius, Mr Henry Apps made his professional debut during this tour and WOW!! astounding. he was awkward but not annoying and love struck but not sickening
* Enjolras!! Will Richardson!!! he had the good ass blond curls for this role GOOD ASS BLOND CURLS!! he was so good and his singing was beautifulllllllllllLll
* Éponine my love was Tegan Bannister and this was a solid af éponine tegan really made this role her own while still being éponine if you get me it was gr88888
* Thénardier was Martin Ball and need i say any more than he stole the goddamn show
* Mme Thénardier was Sophie-Louise Dann and hoooooooly shit was she committed to her accent it was brilliant and she was hilarious
* OK GENERAL THINGS
* there was no revolve like there is in london and so the whole staging was different and it was freaking fantastic
* they included all these little book moments like when valjean steals some money from a kid twas good
* killian donnelly is a fantastic actor and when JVJ is getting rejected by everyone at the start i was nearly on my feet like “STOP BEING MEAN TO HIM!!!”
* jean valjean got beat up so much in this production. someone help him. let him sleep. stop punching my boy
* the foreman really was fuming today and you could really sense the fear he pity in everyone
* fantine also got beat up by the other factory girls leave my girl alone please!!!
* her hair was so beautiful and when they cut it it was so sad
* fantines transformation from ‘virtuous’ to ‘lovely lady’ was never more pronounced then in this and you could see the early stages of her sickness and anger and hooooo boy it was emotional
* you could also see some of the other ladies getting sick and it kinda made out that they also died soon after and that’s so sad oh god
* when that prick who accuses fantine started babbling to Javert fantine had like kill bill sirens going on
* fantine practically attacked JVJ and was like “kinda all your fault bruh” and jvj has his sad puppy dog brooding face of oh no my morality it was dramatic
* javert: jean valjean was captured this morning” JVJ AS MLM: *freeze frame* huh whaaaaa
* who am I? 2!4!6!0! ONEEEEEEEEEE (high note thanks k!!)
* fantines death was so tragic i died too
* whenever a character dies a really bright white light shines on them store that info it’ll become important later
* when jvj met cosette he booped her nose remember that too it’ll become important later on
* master of the house was fucking fantastic best sequence in the whole first act
* thénardier not knowing how to bless himself when his wife says “it’s no more than us christians should do”
* GAVROCHE!!! my little man!!!!! LEGAND our little narrator
* montparnasse didnt have his hat babet did and i was sad
* however, montparnasse was fabulous and his acting choices (by leo miles) were superb and really book accurate he was always real sneaky and sly with perfect posture
* when cosette and marius met cosette dissolved into giggles and it really served to humanise that meet moment
* G R A N T A I R E ( ruben van keer) was the best grantaire i’ve ever seen. he was constantly drunk and drinking and hanging off people and you could see he reallyyyyyy annoyed enjolras BUT R and gavroche had the sweetest relationship (remember that, it’ll be important later)
* gavroche, standing on table: “lemarque is dead”
* enjolras, lifting him down: “lemarque is dead. hmmm. that’s sa- LETS USE HIS FUNERAL FOR OUR POLITICAL MOTIVES”
* all the amis were like “seems kinda soon? idk” but E was just so inspiring that they were like “hell yeah” after two seconds
* cosette was on her balcony and marius was below it ala romeo and juliet and when cosette rushed back into her house to come downstairs marius flung himself against the wall “IM DOING EVERYTHING ALL WRONG” lol drama queen
* attack on rue plumet- CHECK
* during on my own the entire audience seemed to have caught a coughing bug and were hacking up their lungs like SHH
* after on my own éponine walked upstage and the barricade like filled in behind her it was class
* éponine screamed in pain during a little fall of rain and honestly? i died it was so sad
* grantaire hugged gavroche so tightly after éponine died and kissed his head it was so gentle wooeowoowow i stan older/younger brother dynamics
* OKAY SO AFTER GRANTAIRES VERSE IN DRINK WITH ENJOLRAS RAN DOWN FROM THE BARRICADE AND THEN DIDNT HUG HIM AND I WAS LIKE HMMMMMM OK WHAT BUT THEN AS R STUMBLED AWAY EVERYONE IGNORED HIM AND HE COLLAPSED IN A CORNER BUT GAVROCHE RAN OVER AND HUGGED HIM AND FELL ASLEEP ON HIS LEGS CURLED UP IM N O T O K A Y
* bring him home murdered me
* it was so beautiful
* everyone listen to killian donnelly sing bring him home
* he got a solid 2 minute long applause it seemed like the applause would never stop
* since they didn’t have a revolve stage when gavroche went round to pick the ammunition you could hear him singing but couldn’t see him and when the first shot rang out all the barricade boys like jumped but then he started singing and climbing again and made it all the way to the top of the barricade before being shot, bathed in white light and collapsing into enjolras’ arms
* it was SO SAD
* enjolras passed him to grantaire who SOBBED
* and so instead of enjolras and grantaire hugging in drink with me they made had like a solemn moment of understanding over gavroches body and they both looked to traumatised and fuck
* fuck
* then as all the amis died on various parts of the barricade white light was shining in every direction and grantaire was the last to die
* when JVJ was dragging marius into the sewer he was just muttering little reassurances to marius like “come on now good boy there we go not long left come on please” and boy did that shit hurt
* enjolras was upside down in a wagon cause there was no revolve and javert piled gavroches body on top of him
* when thénardier woke JVJ up thénardier nearly karate chopped him it was hilarious
* turning fucked me up they all brought candles on stage and there was this little child there and oh fuck it was so sad
* BUT THEN
* during empty chairs marius walked into a stage filled with candles and picked up éponines one and all the amis filed on and picked up their candle and walked off as he sang and at the very end marius blew out éponines candle and raised the jar it was in like a final toast to his friends what tje fuck that’s sad
* during the wedding the thénardiers were so funny and all the wedding guests copied their ridiculous dance moves
* WHEN JVJ WAS DYING I WAS DYING HE LOOKED SO FRAIL AND OLD AND HE BOOPED COSETTES NOSE AS HE WAS DYING LHLKHKKHKHKG
* fuck off bye i’m broken that was so goddamn good

Top 10 Films of 2018 (So Far)
Since I quite like continuing old traditions, I wanted to do a post rounding up what I consider to be the ten best films of 2018 so far. This list includes a few films that came out in 2017 in the US, since they were only released here in the UK this year.
Have you seen any of the films I cover below? Have I piqued your interest in a title you might not have heard before? Let me know, and do share your favourites too!
1. Annihilation, dir. Alex Garland
Tumblr media
This was my most anticipated film of the year, and my hype for it was more than rewarded. This is a marvellously rich and transporting science fiction film that isn’t afraid of taking the viewer to some very weird places. However, Annihilation doesn’t simply rely on its strangeness to succeed - it is also firmly rooted in its characters and themes, which has made it incredibly rewarding to return to. Natalie Portman is fantastic as Lena, and Annihilation is a brilliant showcase for her - Lena is a complex and frequently self-destructive character, riddled by guilt and regrets that shape the pulsating, luminescent world of the mysterious ‘Shimmer’ that she has to venture into. The Shimmer might seem like an environmental phenomenon at first, but it’s really more psychological, being a space that adapts according to the people who enter into it. This film overflows with fascinating and thought-provoking ideas, and it was entirely worth the hike I made over to Brooklyn to catch one of the final showings at the theatre (since Annihilation was denied a theatrical release in the UK, I made a point of seeing it while I was on holiday in New York). I think it will go down as one of the great science fiction films, and it belongs in the same conversations as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Solaris.
2. Beast, dir. Michael Pearce
Tumblr media
This little British film - shot mostly on location in Jersey by a first-time director - was easily the biggest (and best) surprise I’ve had so far at the cinema this year. I literally had no idea this film existed until a day or so before I watched it, and that made the experience of viewing it even more wonderful. Moll (Jessie Buckley) is an isolated young woman who is stifled by her controlling family and quiet life on a remote island, as well as a secret sin that bubbles away underneath the surface. Her life is predictable - safe, repetitive and dull - until she meets Pascal, a mysterious local man who she finds she has an affinity with. However, there is a murderer haunting the island, taking the lives of young girls in the night. Who’s to blame, and what impact will the killings have on Moll and Pascal’s swiftly escalating romance? While that is a synopsis more than a review, I felt it necessary to explain the premise to try and compel you to seek this one out. Beast is raw, woozy and utterly absorbing - the love story between Moll and Pascal is one of the most passionate and gripping you’ll ever see on screen, and their chemistry is simply sensational. There’s a real gothic, fairy-tale edge to the story which appealed perfectly to my (admittedly rather niche) tastes. This is a real hidden treasure of a film - do yourself a favour and make it your mission to watch it.
3. Lady Bird, dir. Greta Gerwig
Tumblr media
This film was so, so relatable, despite my not really having experienced an adolescence anything like “Lady Bird’s”. While the details of her life are very different from mine, I think anyone can relate to the sweeping brushstrokes - the tensions that can arise between parents and children, the thirst for freedom and independence that builds the closer you get to the final days of school, and the feelings of love and loyalty that are always there even when they’re unspoken. Greta Gerwig captures all of this and so much more with marvellous delicacy, balancing little moments that add colour and spark with more serious scenes so deftly that it’s amazing to think that this is her first feature. Lady Bird is a very specific and very beautiful film, and it’s special precisely because it feels universal even as it feels small and personal to its director.
4. Eighth Grade, dir. Bo Burnham
Tumblr media
This is the perfect double bill with Lady Bird, and the people who have dubbed this film “Lady Bird Jr” are right on the money. Elsie Fisher has a real star turn as the heroine Kayla, who is a very special child - she’s kind, sensitive and thoughtful, which basically means she’s my kind of superhero. But even as she is a good and sweet person, she is also going through all of the trials you’d expect a 13 year old to be facing in 2018, as she wrestles with acne, confusing feelings about super-dreamy boys, and the escalating anxiety that comes with a comment-free Instagram post. Like Lady Bird, this film succeeds in being both very specific and highly universal - the only social media I had to deal with as a teen were MySpace and Bebo, and I found that seeing Kayla wrestle with a whole kaleidoscope of feeds, devices and platforms made her strong grip on her integrity as a  funny and deeply warm-hearted individual all the more remarkable. Bo Burnham, as with Gerwig, made a pretty incredible film here - in particular you should watch out for the father/daughter dynamic, which is my favourite part. Eighth Grade is funny and generous, and the perfect medicine if you’re feeling demoralised by the state of the world right now.
5. The Breadwinner, dir. Nora Twomey
Tumblr media
The Breadwinner is a really lovely animated film telling the story of Parvana, a young girl living with her family under the Taliban. When her father is taken off to prison, Parvana sees no other choice but to dress as a boy to provide for her mother and siblings. But how long will her disguise last? The story here was what really gripped me - it’s very simple, in both the telling and the themes, but it is truly beautiful in that simplicity. The emotions are very raw, and this film goes to some shockingly dark places at times - while I think it can be watched with children as long as they are mature enough for some challenging themes and upsetting moments, it’s likely to speak most strongly to adult audiences with a fuller appreciation for the context in which the film is set. It’s a great and moving alternative to more mainstream animated efforts, and is well worth your time.
6. Phantom Thread, dir. Paul Thomas Anderson
Tumblr media
This was a delightfully twisted film with an absorbingly complicated and twisty relationship at its centre. Vicky Krieps is an absolute marvel as Alma, and it’s wonderful to see how she battles to bring the fragile and austere designer  Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) to heel. It’s also a beautiful film with rather fabulous fashions - if you love couture, particularly from the ‘50s, this will be a real treat. I also appreciated the many allusions to classic cinema - there are strong shades of Hitchcock’s Rebecca, as well as the underrated David Lean film The Passionate Friends. Check this out if you like your romantic dramas weird and entirely unpredictable.
7. Revenge, dir. Coralie Fargeat
Tumblr media
Revenge is angry, sun-soaked and batshit insane - and it is pretty great for all of those reasons. It follows Jennifer, the teenage mistress of a sleazy married man. After a horrifying assault Jennifer returns, phoenix-like, to wreak her revenge upon her attackers. This movie was very much inspired by exploitation flicks, with their penchant for showing scantily clad (and frequently bloody) women wielding shotguns to hunt down the brutes who did them wrong. However, first-time director Coralie Fargeat takes every one of those tropes and owns them, ramping up the blood and giving the action a propulsive energy that keeps you gripped even as you know exactly where things are going. The soundtrack here is also one to look out for - it’s all pulsating synths that do a great job of building the suspense and tension from the get-go.
8. Lean on Pete, dir. Andrew Haigh
Tumblr media
This is a very painful film in many ways, but it’s only painful because it does such a great job of earning your emotional investment. The lead of this film is Charley, a sensitive and quiet teenage boy who becomes attached to an ailing race horse as he seeks to escape his troubled home-life. When he finds himself in crisis, Charley takes the horse and they head off on a journey across the American heartland. Charlie Plummer is extraordinary as the lead here - Charley is the kind of character that makes you want to reach through the screen so you can offer him a hug of reassurance and support. The photography of the American countryside is exquisite, and means this film really deserves to be seen on the big screen - the breadth of the landscape gives all of the emotional drama some (richly deserved, in my view) extra punch.
9. You Were Never Really Here, dir. Lynne Ramsay
Tumblr media
This is a very weird film (you’re probably noticing a theme at this point) but it’s completely absorbing. It’s very much actor-led, and the film rests on the shoulders of Joaquin Phoenix’s gripping and unpredictable performance - in some scenes he’s muttering in deference to his mother like a modern-day Norman Bates, while in others he’s portrayed almost as a lost boy in an overgrown body, disorientated by his environment and engaging in acts of extreme violence as if in a sort of trance. The narrative is fuzzy and unfocused, but I didn’t find that mattered much since I was too busy following every evolution of Phoenix’s face.
10. Thoroughbreds, dir. Cory Finley
Tumblr media
Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy make fantastic foils to one another as two appallingly privileged teenagers whose obscene wealth is only matched by their resounding lack of morals. This is a film that plays with your loyalties, trying to wrong-foot you at every turn - it’s frequently difficult to figure out what’s genuine here, and while that did sometimes leave me feeling a bit emotionally detached that’s usually the point. This film is more of an intellectual puzzle than a lean, mean, emotion-extracting machine (see: Lean on Pete), and it succeeds brilliantly on that level. The simplicity of the story means the fun lies in picking apart lines and expressions, so go in prepared for some close viewing.

Not only will you be able To look for different types of lodging in a jiffy on major travel review site TripAdvisor, you can scrutinize the reviews to get a sense of how the location is really like through the numerous reviews submitted by fellow travelers who've stayed there before.
You'll probably even pick Up a truckload of hints and gems from other travelers' experiences should you read the testimonials conscientiously.
Additionally, you can Bless whoever who made comparing and searching this kind of effortless procedure.
Another site where you Could do the same is Lonely Planet. By simply keying on your planned dates of travel and destination, the website churns out a selection of accommodation at various rates for you. You have the option of filtering according to your own preferences, also! Plus they have got brief reviews done by their individual authors for one to consult with if you need any extra information regarding the area you're looking at.
Travel During Off-Season (At Your Destination)
To Make sure that your travel costs are kept to a minimal, traveling off-season to conserve on both air tickets and lodging. But of course, the"off-season" period fluctuates depending on your travel destination.
So, Ensure you do your Homework to learn what's the"best" month to allow one to visit wherever you have been lusting to travel to.
Check out the price differences on Agoda for a 4-night stay for 2 adults at Landmark London Hotel's Superior Room - a stay starting on 1st May 2016 prices $422.68 per night as a stay starting on 1st August 2016 costs $488.12 each night. Image source: Agoda

For the uninitiated, Couchsurfing is just as literal as it could be - you surf (or instead, sleep) on a sofa or your host's spare mattress for free. And you also get to fulfill new friends (your hosts, naturally ) and find out about living like a local there and then.

You'll probably meet some Of the coolest and friendliest souls on the market through your couchsurfing experience because those who open up their homes and arms to welcome fellow travelers into their abode are likely travelers those who have couchsurfed before. They know what it's like to be out there pursuing their journeys while cutting back on costs altogether.
Your hosts may even take You outside to eat the things locals enjoy, do the things locals do, see the coolest party location in the city, visit concealed places only locals know about. Well, essentially, all the things which you can not find in travel guides.

KISS: Phantom Obsession #3
Tumblr media
KISS: Phantom Obsession #03 Dynamite Entertainment 2021 Written by Ian Edginton Illustrated by Celor Coloured by Valentina Pinto Lettered by Troy Peteri    The band have found themselves wined, dined and detained by the genius Darius Cho! As Cho puts each member through the wringer, a new-found ally may be able to help the Masters of all things Rock and/or Roll get the upper hand on Cho and his army of pop-culture-inspired destruction!    I really think this story is pretty amazing as we’ve never really seen anyone try to quantify the powers that band has.  Granted he’s trying to gauge the full extent of their abilities in order to steal them for his own nefarious scheme.  Still what we are seeing here is something I’ve not seen before and I think Ian is doing a sensational job in exploring this aspect.  As a story overall it works for a lot of situations and characters and I have to admit I'm surprised that we haven’t seen a story along these lines before but then again it’s an original idea and it’s fabulous!  I’m pretty darn impressed with the way that this is being told and that this complex has so many worlds incorporated into it really takes this to a whole new level of creepy on par with The Umbrella Corporation.      I’m a huge fan of the way that this is being told.  The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well.  The character development that we see through the dialogue (there’s one line in particular that made me laugh out loud too), the character interaction as well as how we see them act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter.  This brings focus on their personalities which are never stagnant but always evolving.  The pacing is excellent and as it takes us through the pages revealing more and more of the story we’re introduced to new dilemma’s and it’s keeping us on the edge of our seats.      I’m impressed with the way that we see this being structured and how the layers within the story continue to emerge, grow, evolve and strengthen.  I’m also liking the way that we see the layers open up new avenues to be explored.  While some of this comes in terms of different biospheres or bio-domes, others come in part due to how we see the boys and what they can do.  All this adds some great depth, dimension and complexity to the story.  How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward are impeccably rendered.      I’m not as keen on the interiors here, they aren’t a style I would normally gravitate towards as for me it’s a bit too simple.  That being said, there is some great creativity and imagination on display here and the linework is clean, crisp and sharp.  The way backgrounds are utilised to enhance and expand the moments are well conceived and how they work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story is handled extremely well.  The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a talented eye for storytelling.  The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work show a great understanding of how colour works.  I’m particularly impressed with the pattern on Cho’s shirt.     Whether you are a die-hard fan of the band, and let’s face it, everyone should be, or just a casual fan this is something that you should be reading.  It’s got some solid storytelling and fantastic characterisation and animated style interiors that bring KISS to life are done exceedingly well.

The Greatest Showman
I usually don’t make movie reviews but I feel like this movie deserves so much more than the critics let on. Yes, there are flaws and let me say those first in every sections but there are good things too. I am not a movie expert but as an aspiring movie critic, here are my thoughts.
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
Plot and Characters:
To be honest, it is cliche and cheesy for the most part. Rags to riches, the classic forbidden love (2 of them, actually) and the feelsy good ‘I finally found a family’ trope. BUT I love my feelsy good 'I finally found a family’ trope. I just wish that they gave the circus folks more focus so that I could see how tight their bond is, but I did feel it in the 'This is Me’ and 'from Now On’ Song Numbers.
I am going to compare this to some stuff that I have seen so far.
Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus have a different genre overall but the thing is they focused on the Circus Folks, making us invested in them. We saw their background, their history and why they joined the circus. In my opinion, the 'This is Me’ song number would be more powerful if they did the same. I considered the running time of the movie too. Maybe they did not get the chance to put the background of these characters because the movie was getting too long. That’s why I agree with Beyond the Trailer in her review here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nriwcs4UZHc , that this should have been a Broadway musical first. Maybe they would have the time to do the character focus thing.
Tumblr media
I also considered that the movie is called 'The Greatest Showman’ not 'The Greatest Circus’ or something. Which is fair. Speaking of which, P.T Barnum reminds me a lot of A. Hamilton. (I am referring to the character in the movie, not the real P.T. Barnum.) Besides their aspirations and visions, they are basically the same person. A once, poor young orphan who married a rich woman (who is basically the best of wives, best of women *wink*), learned to stand up and strive for what they wanted and got overwhelmed with success that they lost sight of their true vision because of this one woman. The difference is Barnum snapped out of it. (out of topic, kinda: the fact that there is a Philip in both made me chuckle. Good thing TGS Philip survived lol.)
Tumblr media
I get that the critics are whining about how P.T. Barnum is not realistic. He is not a good person in real life. We get that but it said 'Inspired by true Story’, not 'Based on True Story’. Think of the movie like an AU where Barnum is a better person. If you are looking for a realistic portrayal or anything about the real P.T. Barnum, watch documentaries or read any articles about him. This movie is completely fictional. Never expect anything realistic in a musical, people. I personally just enjoyed the shit out of the P.T. Barnum  that was presented to me. Hugh Jackman was AMAZING in this role. You can’t say that he did not enjoy playing The greatest Showman. We don’t deserve him, honestly. I am praising him because if he wasn’t as enthusiastic as he is, the movie won’t be as amazing. Even though J. Franco won that award, you are the winner of our hearts, sir. Zac and Zendaya have great chemistry on screen. I wish we focused a biiit more on these two and their relationship as well. Their love story is nothing new but, again, if you feel the love of those characters, it is presented well.
Tumblr media
I think they had enough focus on the Barnum family. Again, reminds me so much of  the Hamilton family. I have nothing to say here, honestly. Miss Rebecca Ferguson was great at being Jenny Lind. Shame that she did not really sing Never Enough. I don’t know the whole story but my guess is, she can;t hit that high note or her voice is just not as powerful? Why not Miss Loren Allred as Jenny? Maybe she looks too young for Mister Jackman? Who knows? Like I said before, I wish that they focused more on the Circus folks but Miss Keala Settle was sassy and fantastic. Her voice was fantastic. Mister Sam Humphrey was cute and amazing too. i love that he’s the first one that Barnum discovered. I just wish that they did not lower his voice that much. I saw this one video of him and I think he’s fine having that voice in the movie.
Visuals and Choreography: I have nothing bad to say in this section because EVERYTHING WAS GORGEOUS. Sure, the steps might not be nothing new but the way they are presented makes up for that. The part/song where the choreography shined, in my opinion, is 'Rewrite the Stars’. Considering that Zendaya did most of her stunts, it was a big bonus too. She and Zac made that big stage small with just the two of them on it. They got creative with the ropes and the other things that they had.
Tumblr media
The choreography of Mister bartender in 'The Other Side’ was brilliant. If you made a movie where almost everyone is praising an extra with no name, you are doing something right. 'This is Me’ has this aggression to it and it made me feelings aggressive too, which is good. The other songs have nice dance numbers as well but I have favorites and those are those three.
Tumblr media
The costumes are creative and beautiful. Zendaya with pink hair and violet costume is fabulous. I like Miss Keala’s dress too but I feel awkward whenever she does this one dance step. Maybe that’s just me though, I don’t know. Oh, Miss Rebecca’s wardrobe was just elegant and pretty. Like, I want those dresses, stat. It’s funny how she always appears so angelic since she wears white so much lol.
Tumblr media
The settings are nice too. My favorites are the bar, that stage where zac and zendaya trapezed (?) in and the rooftops because they showed how they can get creative in those spaces.
Music: This soundtrack was gorgeous. Some may shrug it off as forgettable and some may say that some songs are unnecessary but to me, it’s the lyrics  that always catches my eyes. Lemme try to break down the songs and what happened during these numbers.
The Greatest Show An obligatory opening number and a good one at that. It’s not my favorite (am not a fan of opening numbers in ANY musicals though so that’s just me) but I do find myself humming and bobbing my head when it comes on. They pulled out their nice and flashy visuals for this one, which makes sense. It is introducing you to their circus.
A Million Dreams This introduces you to the character and the aspirations that young Barnum has. As the song progresses, it became what young Barnum held onto even when going through shit in his life.  this song is also the transition of young Barnum to being Adult Barnum. it also shows that Adult Barnum still have bigger dreams and he’s not there yet.
A Million Dreams (reprise) Now, I don’t really consider reprises an actual number since it has the same tune and lyrics (mostly) but what I like about them is how the characters progressed over time. Are they still feeling these feelings? What this number did was it reminded Barnum what his true dreams were by his own daughters. Simple as that.
Come Alive I think this is already obvious. It’s about opening their Circus to the public and how fun it is for the people who are seeing it. The visual and choreography are beautiful as always. It kinda sounds like a Michael jackson song, not gonna lie.
The Other Side One of my favorites because of the creativity with the glasses and shots. The glass hitting and siliding on the table adds to it and I am glad that some as in the soundtrack. It is a negotiation music number. This is a big deal because Carlyle is risking a lot in the deal. it is hard to break out of the routine that you are used to. In a way, it is an intro to Carlyle’s character. My only problem with this is it sounds so Pop? Hearing Hugh jackman sing it is like watching my dad sing an HSM song, which it weird. But the bridge part makes up for it. I love that bridge.
Never Enough Jenny is a singer so of course she gets a song. But during this one, seeing Hugh’s expression just made it more powerful than it is. Miss Rebecca was alone in that stage but Miss Loren’s voice filled the room and filled every empty space. It’s just so beautiful. They could have made this song number just be Miss Rebecca singing but it also showed 2 things. Barnum’s expression. He was moved along with the crowd and his song describes him. Even after all his success, he still wants more. Charity saw this and judging by her expression, she was saddened/scared of what Barnum might be thinking but she trusts him and his promises and clapped for Jenny. The second thing is Philip and Anne’s relationship. the song also describes it. Just being beside each other, seeing each other was never enough. They wanted to progress but it showed that Philip is still afraid of what other people will think of them. (I heard from a reviewer that it is like a taylor swift song and I was like dude, just because she repeated 'Never’ doesn’t mean it’s already like a Taylor Swift song lol)
This is Me This song won the award. yay~ Good props for them. The message of this was simple yet inspiring. The beats and the tune made it more powerful. Kudos to Miss Keala again for giving her best performance in this. I just wish that there are more focus on the circus folks like, maybe, Barnum not really paying attention to them, a family moment or one of them being attacked by a protester or smth. Little moments like those building up to this song would make it more powerful. That aside, this is beautiful as it is. fighting for being free, being who you are. It just hits me all the time.
Rewrite the stars this one had a build up to it so it did make it more special. they had a scene prior to this song and it made it better. The song is catchy and the visual is not colorful but it is creative with their props and I loved it very much. Zac singing made it feel like I’m watching 'Breaking free’ or something. I just love it. Zendaya’s stunts were amazing. It has a simple thing that it wants to convey. Forbidden love. Boy wants girl, girl reminds him that it can’t be. That’s it. Without it, I don’t think you’ll be invested with their reationship.
Tightrope now, everyone may have mixed feelings about this but Miss Michelle’s voice was just so pretty in this one. The downside is that onscreen, you will see montages, which may take away your attention to the lyrics of the song or, maybe, the song itself. Think of this as a milder version of Hamilton’s 'Burn’. Feeling of being betrayed, broken promises and such. the difference is Charity is not really angry in this one. She still hopes that Burnam will remember how they were before like she is doing at the beginning of this song. I just think this song is underappreciated, which is a shame. I love this one too.
Never Enough (Reprise) Well, another reprise. In the original one, Jenny is singing about what some people in the room are feeling. In this one it feels like she realized that she has been singing about Barnum all along. She realized that he never loved her the way she loved him. in a way, she’s now singing about herself too. She may be the character we have close to a villain but i feel her in this one.
From Now On This is like a Gospel song but I love gospel songs so.. That’s a plus. At first I was skeptical about this song but it got catchier and catchier the more I hear it. We are also back at the bar, which is great. They have more people in it and it was amazing. It’s a party and I just wanna dance with them. this is simply about Barnum realizing his mistakes and what he would do to make it right. So basically, it is promise again.
So in conclusion, are some of the songs unnecessary? Not exactly. They all conveyed strong feelings at certain plot points. Also, they only have 11 music numbers. For a musical movie, I think that is a decent amount. La la Land had the same amount plus 4. Broadway musical to film had a lot more so I think It is just right. Are they out of place? With the setting, of course they are.  Is that bad? Not in my opinion. If you are talking about out of place  soundtrack and setting, just look at Hamilton. But it does not automatically make it bad. You can’t just hate on the soundtrack to be honest. It is one of its charms. The film is trying to tackle every character that they could but it failed that we only got a glimpse of what they might be trying to do. Its heart is in the right place and you could see what it wants to do. It wanna make you feel good after watching it and it worked for me, and a lot others too. It’s just there were things that they could have done if they had more running time. (i guess you could say that it is 'Never Enough’ *wink*)You could see that the actors are enjoying what they are doing and for a first movie of a new director, this was pretty darn impressive. The passion is there, the talent and skills are there. Besides the lack of character exploration aside from Barnum’s, it was a great movie. Visually, this was a treat.  I just wish that it has more recognition. If I hadn’t seen gifs or fanarts of it, I would not have heard of so, the fans are doing a great job too. A great way to end 2017 OR start 2018, depending when you saw it. To be honest, it looks like a nice Christmas film. I could see that I would watch it with kids during Christmas. I love it.

WonderCon weekend has officially closed and while I’m totally exhausted and my feet still hurt and I’m probably still a little dehydrated and I may feel a con cold coming on, I’m sad that its over. I count down the minutes to the con each year and I always have a blast and I’m sad to see it end for 2018. This year was a good one though, full of both familiar and new experiences.
Friday was a short day for me. I ended up having to work in the morning so we didn’t get to WonderCon until about 230 pm, but Fridays are usually slow so it worked out nicely. We figured out a way to park nearby and take Lyfts in, instead of having to deal with the INSANE parking that apparently people had to go through. We did that all weekend and found that to be WAY  less of a hassle and WAY worth the money we paid (which was basically next to nothing because we parked so close). We were also doing Week of Logic last week, which is a week long celebration for the anniversary of one of my favorite breweries (which is NERD themed), Bottle Logic.
Friday ended up being SUCH a fun day, even though we only had a few hours there to stay but we made it totally worth it. I really wanted to meet both EK Johnston (author of many novels, but in this case, author of the novel, Ahsoka) and Ashley Eckstein, who does the voice acting for Ahsoka in Clone Wars, Rebels and much more. They were only signing on the Friday and I’ve met them both before, but I wanted to try and snag a paperback cover of Ahsoka in order to do a giveaway soon (so keep an eye out!).
They were SO nice to meet again. Ashley actually recognized me, which was nice, since I’ve done my best to try and meet her every year at WonderCon for the past couple of years. My boyfriend, Daniel, gave her a compliment on her audiobook reading of Ahsoka and I think she really appreciated that; she said she was avoiding it since she felt like she did an awful job at the voices for Darth Maul and Bail Organa haha.
We ended up staying in the autograph area immediately after since an author Daniel really likes,  Patrick Rothfuss, was signing as well. He was a super cool guy and I even snagged a copy of his first book for my friend, Alyssa, who is a big fan and could not go. I love watching my boyfriend meet people he admires, especially since he doesn’t get to do so often and he really only started to once he started dating me haha. I’ve met a lot of people so its fun to see someone else do it, especially someone who isn’t so used to meeting famous people.  I definitely enjoyed that.
Mostly on Friday, we wandered Artist Alley, where I get the most in trouble with my wallet. I love seeing all the artwork and I always have a couple goals when looking for art. Last year it was Mei from Overwatch and any Hamilton art, and this year I was all about Wonder Woman and Ahsoka!
Saturday, we ended up in SO many panels, which I super loved because that almost never happens for me. I always end up spending so much time on the con floor that I barely make any panels, but not on Saturday and that was so great!
We went to a panel called the Science of Pacific Rim, with the host Kyle Hill, who works for Nerdist, amongst other things, to discuss the science-y stuff behind the cult movie, Pacific Rim. This just so happens to be Daniel’s favorite movie and the panel was SO much fun. I’ve only seen the movie once but honestly it was a bunch of science nerds, geeking out and discussing the finer points of a movie and I LOVE and LIVE for that stuff. Truly it was such a fun panel and I would’ve never thought to go to it if it hadn’t been for Daniel.
That night, we ended up in three back-to-back fantastic panels. One of them we stumbled to on accident, waiting for the panel after it. It was about Latinx in Comics, and had three woman who run the podcast Comadres y Comics (which I’ve now started listening to and LOVE) and an author Sebastian Kadlecik, who wrote the comic Quince, about a girl who gets super powers at her quinceanera. It was such a fun panel and I’m so glad we got to the room early for the following panel because I would have missed out. I’m sad I didn’t get a picture but it was nice to see woman who look like me, talking about comics and stories like that. One of them even owns a comic book store in Santa Monica with her husband and that’s just the coolest.
We also did the Dark Side of Women, a panel that talked about exploring the darker side of women in fiction, which was incredibly enjoyable and incredibly inspiring. I’m not really nice to my characters and its nice to know that I am most definitely not the only one. We also ended up randomly in a Dungeons and Dragons panel as well. Daniel is HUGE fan and has been playing for a few years now and dedicates a lot of time and energy into it and he’s even gotten me to play and I actually ended up liking it a lot. I love to watch more than anything and get inspired for my own world building and story telling but I truly love playing too. Its really a chance for adults to play make believe and the panel was full of people who’ve been playing for decades and had a lot of cool advice and experienced insight to share, even for someone who has been playing for a bit, like Daniel.
Sunday, I think, was my favorite day though and I may be a little biased when I say so. I was lucky enough to be a moderator at my very first WonderCon panel ever and it was basically a dream come true. WonderCon is my favorite convention and its been a bucket list item for quite some time to be on panel and my dear friend, Alexandra Monir, asked me to moderate the Women Writers in YA Science Fiction and Fantasy panel with Alexandra, along with Robyn Schneider, Kiersten White and Livia Blackburne. Its a subject that is SO near and dear to my heart and it didn’t take me more than a few seconds to say YES.
I was definitely nervous for it, especially when I discovered our panel was in such a BIG room, but the turn out was so great, and the authors were amazing. I felt confident up there and we had great discussions about being women in male-dominated genres and being aware of our own personal brand of feminism in writing and so much more. It felt awesome to be up there and I couldn’t have asked for better authors, a better audience or a better time. It was SUCH a great experience for sure.
All in all, it was another banner year at WonderCon and I’m sad to see it go once more. I always have such a great time, meet great people, see friends I haven’t seen in a long time, and buy too much fan art…if that is even such a thing. This year was even better than usual; I got to discover new podcasts and cross a bucket list item off the list. I am always counting down the days until the next year because, again, I always have such a great time. I can’t wait for next year!
I was in a search for some good Wonder Woman fan art and I saw a lot of it but this is the one that honestly made me the happiest and I had to get it. Irene also had a ton of awesome buttons and some other fabulous fan art as well and you can check her out as beanclam on instagram.
I bought a ton of Hamilton fan art from a sunnydisposish last year and I knew I needed this fan art in my life, especially after Kelly Marie Tran, who plays Rose in The Last Jedi, shared it on International Womens Day!
I had been looking EVERYWHERE for Ahsoka art work and I found a few but none that really jumped out or spoke to me until suddenly, out of nowhere, I spotted this one from Albert Nguyen (albertnguyenart) and immediately purchased it without a second thought. I love Ahsoka and Sabine and was immediately sold on this artwork.
I knew the moment I saw Chrissie Zullo’s booth that I was going to get something from her, it was just so hard to decide. She had an excellent Wonder Woman art piece (which she actually uses as her business card, so I have that in my clear phone case now haha) and an incredibly Leia one as well but I’m a sucker for snow bunny aka Hoth Leia and got my hands on this one. Make sure to follow her on her instagram here.
FREAKING LUNAR CHRONICLES FAN ART! CINDER, SCARLET, CRESS, WINTER AND IKO! I told myself that I was cut off from buying more fan art but how often do you see YA fan art at a con? I had to buy them. HAD TO! Follow the artist here and beg her to do more YA fan art because I’m truly in love.
I didn’t even realize Karen Hallion was going to be at WonderCon again and so I was pleasantly surprised to see her, and I immediately got my hands on her calendar, because I’m totally super in love with her original character. She’s well known for doing her Disney-Doctor Who crossovers but she honestly is my fave in fan art and always draws ALL the badass ladies in fiction.
My last little guilty pleasure purchase is from a vendor called Pixel That. I saw them last year on the last day, after my wallet was tapped out so I was determined to get something from them this year. I definitely want to buy more of them because they’re cute, sassy and insanely comfortable and now they have leggings too! They said the magic words. You can follow them here.
Event Recap - WonderCon Anaheim 2018! #WonderCon #WCA2018 @wondercon WonderCon weekend has officially closed and while I'm totally exhausted and my feet still hurt and I'm probably still a little dehydrated and I may feel a con cold coming on, I'm sad that its over.

Basking in Firelight-Jamilton Sequel-Part Ten
Masterpost
Part One
Part Ten: Government Refuted
AN
I know I said I was going to involve more characters and so far I have failed to do so. No idea why, but apparently, in my mind, there is no such thing as other characters. Jamilton all the way. heh heh heh. Okay, for real though, there will be more characters soon! I just need a place to write them in.
Okay, back to the story. This is the longest chapter yet. I may have gotten carried away…Have fun!

The night before everything was going to happen was a rough night for both of them. Jefferson screamed himself awake in the middle of the night. He went and made himself some tea to calm his nerves; when he heard Hamilton stumble out of his room, Jefferson made another cup and handed it to him without a word. There was an understanding between them that neither of them talked about.
Jefferson settled into a chair and Hamilton curled up in the corner of the couch, they sipped their tea and watched the clock tick. Many nights had passed between them like this, sleepless. Jefferson had nights like this before the horrors that he and Hamilton went through, but never as frequently. Hamilton was just the same. Everyone had their own hidden horrors, they just happened to share this one.
That’s what happens you fight for something you believe in. The trick was not breaking. Never break, because once you do, they win. Don’t let them win. Never let them win.
“Do you think it will better?” Hamilton asked suddenly, quietly, breaking the silence, “After all this is over? Will it be worth it?”
“I don’t know,” Jefferson said softly, “I don’t know.”
***
The sun rose, Jefferson and Hamilton rose from their seats with it. Today was the day where their lives were thrown back into the nightmare that is war. They were both asking themselves if they could do it, handle several more years of toil and bloodshed, stay sane through it all. It didn’t matter though because they had to. It was what they believed in so they would fight, no matter what happened, they would fight with everything they had.
So they donned the outfits Jefferson had made. Hamilton looked in the mirror, Jefferson was right, it looked pretty good on him, not that he’d ever admit it. He walked out into the hallway only to stop dead in his tracks at the sight Jefferson. The man looked like a God, a God that didn’t give a shit about anything or anyone else. A God who was about to walk out into the world and smite anyone who got in his way. And in a way, he was. That’s exactly what this was about, smiting the entire governmental forces.
Jefferson turned and walked toward Hamilton, a grin plastered on his face, “See? Now, what did I tell you? You look great! Not as great as me, but still fantastic.”
“I never expected it to be so reinforced,” Hamilton said, he could feel the Kevlar that lined parts of the clothing, protecting him mostly of knives, and the bullet proof chest piece that fit slimly to his body.
“I told you needn’t worry about that. Now, for the rest,” Jefferson said, handing Hamilton over the weapons he was to conceal.
“Where am I to put these?”
“Literally anywhere. It has places to conceal thing everywhere. I would say you could hide a tank, but I think that might be a bit overkill.”
Hamilton started tucking things away, Jefferson was right, there were compartments everywhere. How much time did he put into designing these? What had the world come to, to make these necessary? It was sad. Hamilton looked forward to the day he could walk down the street without having to have anything to defend himself. “What about you?” Hamilton asked, eyeing Jefferson’s outfit, looking for any sign of anything concealed.
“Already done. Amazing right? Can’t see a thing.” Jefferson scooped up his cane and twirled it in his hand. “Shall we?” he gestured toward the door. The marched out the door with every possibility of never walking back through it again. They knew the game plan, tried to think of every obstacle, but that fact of the matter was, they had no clue what was going to happen today.
There was going to be rebel rally today. All the people that still wanted to fight were going to be there, trying to convince all those who had given up to fight on in their name. Little did those people know that they would actually show up themselves. But there was an extremely strong possibility that the government would show up and break it up. Not just break it up, but arrest people and turn it into an all-out blood bath.
Jefferson and Hamilton hoped to avoid that. But anything could happen at this point. This was war.
Jefferson hated it.
Hamilton and Jefferson couldn’t just walk into the rally, obviously, people would recognize them immediately and that would ruin everything. Occasions like this had to be done with flare. It’s not every day you get to come back from the dead. It had to memorable. People had to be inspired. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t fight. Jefferson and Hamilton couldn’t take down the oppression oligarchy by themselves, they had to have support.
They had to give the rebellion a jump start.
That’s why their outfits were concealed under bland, heavy clothing, so they would blend in and be able to sneak wherever they wished. Hoods covered their heads, which was extremely important for Jefferson who’s hair was the most defining trait of his. Sunglasses hid their faces. One thing they looked was conspicuous, but every looked like that these days, especially when you were going to an illegal rebel rally.
When they arrived, there was already lots of people milling about, waiting for the fun to start. There was a raised platform at the center and people surrounded it, their numbers rapidly growing. Hamilton and Jefferson took up their positions and waited.
It was dark out, nighttime, a single beam of light illuminated a person on stage, a man dressed in dark attire. His voice roared into a microphone. “Hello, people of the Capitol!” He started walking rapidly around the stage, the light following him. “Can you hear me!” he yelled, getting a massive roar from the crowd. “We all know why we’re here, right?” his voice called to the crowd with enthusiasm, he was working them up. “We’re here, at the heart of the nation, so the government can hear us loud and clear!” Cheers. “Let them hear you!” he shouted, managing to get the crowd to roar louder.
He waited for the crowd to go silent. “Now, we all know why we’re here today,” he said solemnly. “The people have lost so much. So much. And recently, we have lost two great people to the tyranny of the government. Two of the greatest men the world has seen. We all know what they stood for. We all know who they are. Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. We will mourn them forever. But right-”
Another voice cut over the speaker, “Y'all have forgotten, haven’t you?”
The crowd looked around for the source of the voice, the man on stage whipped his head around as well, looking for whoever spoke, but the stage was still dark, spotlights were sweeping over the stage in search, but could find no one. A different voice echoed from the speakers, “The number one rule of the rebellion,”
“Never,” the first voice said.
“Ever,” said the second voice.
“Give.”
“The government.”
“What they want!” both voices declared simultaneously. Spotlights centered on two people on opposites sides of the stage, dressed in bright colors. The man in magenta leaned on his cane, feet crossed over each other, smiling at the crowd. The other man in green stood, arms uncrossed and spreading wide as he swept into a dramatic bow. Half the audience cheered wildly while the other half looked around confused, with no idea what was going on.
They both strode forward and clapped the man in black on man and wrapped their arms around his shoulders, Hamilton on one side and Jefferson on the other. Jefferson looked over the crowd before looking down at the man trapped between him and Hamilton. “Young man, what’s your name?” he asked.
“Luke Whetherfield,” he responded.
“Wonderful name, Whetherfield,” Jefferson grinned, “Now, you have to believe me when I say that I’m truly sorry that we’d crashed the party, but we just had to be here to show our support. Now, tell me Whetherfield, have you ever met those two fabulous people you spoke of?”
“I never had the honor,” Whetherfield replied.
“That’s too bad, now you’ll never get the chance,” Hamilton said sadly. “Now Whetherfield, we have one more question for you before we let you get back to the party,” Hamilton paused. “Do you know who we are?”
“No idea,” he said, getting irritated at the strangers’ presence.
“I don’t think I could have written a better eulogy for myself,” Jefferson said, breaking away and walking around the stage, Hamilton doing the same. “What about you Hamilton?” he asked, looking to Hamilton.
“I dunno, I’m pretty gifted with words, Jefferson,” Hamilton replied. Both of the grinned at the crowd as everyone screamed and roared and cheered endlessly. Whetherfield spun and gawked at the two as they both swept into dramatic bows to the crowd.
“My God,” Whetherfield whispered, the words still catching in the headset he wore. He collapsed to the stage floor, landing in a sitting position as he stared speechlessly at the two that appeared like a miracle before them.
“Now, I’m disappointed in the lot of you!” Jefferson said over the crowd, which quieted to hear his words. “For two reasons,” he said, raising two fingers in the air. “One, half of you didn’t recognize me! What’s with that?”
“And two,” Hamilton took over, “You gave up! Let the governmentals come back and undo everything we did!”
“Well, maybe not everything,” Jefferson relented.
“You forgot rule 1!” Hamilton said.
“What’s rule one?” Jefferson asked the audience.
“Never give the government what they want!” The replied in earnest.
“They wanted us dead,” Jefferson said.
“But are we?” Hamilton asked.
“No!” the audience responded.
“Hang on!” another man yelled, climbing up on stage and stealing Whetherfield’s headset. “Just one moment!” he shouted. “How do we know this is really Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton? They’ve been missing months. Disappeared without a trace. How can we be sure you’re really them?”
“Please,” Jefferson scoffed, “Can anyone other than me pull off this magenta suit?”
“What’s your name?” Hamilton asked.
“Seabury. Samuel Seabury,” he replied.
“Hey, Jefferson, ever heard of a Samuel Seabury?” Hamilton asked.
“I don’t believe I have.”
Hamilton turned his attention back to Seabury, “Now you see, Jefferson here memorized the name of every person in the rebellion. He doesn’t know you, you know what that means?”
“No, wait, I think I have heard of him,” Jefferson cut in, “yeah, he’s a Govey. What’s a Govey doing here?”
“Promoting sanity,” Seabury replied.
“Oh?” Hamilton asked, “And what is this sanity you speak of?”
“Heed not the rabble who scream revolution, they have not your interests at heart,” Seabury began, addressing the audience.
“Oh my God, tear this dude apart,” Jefferson muttered.
“Chaos and bloodshed are not a solution, don’t let them lead you astray,” he gestured toward Jefferson and Hamilton. Jefferson stood off to the side, arms crossed. “These people don’t speak for me. They’re playing a dangerous game. I pray you’re shown some mercy, For shame! For shame!”
Hamilton cut in, “He’d have you all unravel at the sound of screams but the revolution is here. The have-nots are gonna win this. It’s hard to listen to you with a straight face.”
“Heed not the rabble who scream revolution, they have not your interest at heart. Chaos and bloodshed are not a solution!”
“Choas and bloodshed already haunt us!”
“Don’t let them lead you astray!”
“Honestly, you shouldn’t even talk! And what about Boston? Look at the cost and all that we’ve lost! And you talk about us?!”
“These people don’t speak for me!”
“Jefferson speaks more eloquently than thee!”
“Hey!” Jefferson protested, insulted.
“They’re playing a dangerous game!” Seabury insisted.
“But strangely you mange is the same!”
“I pray they show you some mercy.”
“Shall I practice my curtsy?” Hamilton asked.
“For shame!”
“For the revolution!” Hamilton cheered.
“For shame!”
“For the revolution!” everyone roared.
“Heed-” Seabury began again.
“If you repeat yourself again, I’m going to scream.”
“Please shut up,” Jefferson said from the background to Seabury.
“Honestly, look at me, please don’t speak!”
“Not your interests-”
“Don’t modulate the key then not debate with me! Why should the people not have rights? Don’t you see? Rights belong to you and me.”
“Alexander-” Jefferson cut in, looking at something beyond the crowd.
“Not now Jefferson, I’m dragging this guy.”
There was a flash in the distance, followed by a pop. “Alexander!” Jefferson screamed, tackling him to the ground right as something collided with the stage and exploded.

Warnings: Bit of PTSD, roasting, dragging of other characters. Amazing insults. The works.
