Reminiscing on Clint and Vents ™️
To my knowledge the entire Clint in vents trope in domestic Avengers fics is not founded in any canon reason or instance (I believe our first introduction to Clint even ever being INSIDE a vent is from the Black Widow movie when Nat and Yelena are in that vent in Budapest) which isn’t to say that it’s a bad thing (headcannons are quite literally the bread and butter of fandom culture, but I think when taken meta textually this trope highlights a glaring problem with Clint Barton and Hawkeyes introduction and characterization throughout the MCU.
Which is to say his introduction and characterization was so botched by the hands of Marvel and their inability to juggle a multi-character story without picking favorites (probably corporate meddling to increase merchandise sales) that we literally had nothing to go on as far as his character at the end of Avengers. Zilch. Nothing. Nada. We had Nat and the scorching chemistry between Scarjo and Jeremy but that was it! And because of that we resorted to hand waving that the guy just climbed in vents because he like Obi-Wan likes the high ground. Like—
Think about it. We all already had a pop culture knowledge and in some instance entire movies about Thor, Tony Stark, Hulk (the old version), and Captain America. And even in those movies we had knowledge and an on screen portrayal of: Black Widow, Loki, fuck even Bucky. And yeah sure Hawkeye had a cameo in Thor but did we really get anything about his character on the same level that we got of Black Widow, Loki and Bucky that they got in their respective supporting roles? No. We got his smart mouth and Jeremy’s perfect acting.
And then the Avengers, where he’s brainwashed 98% of the movie?
Yeah it’s no fricken wonder the whole Clint in Vents trope was a thing in domestic Avengers fics—
We.
Literally.
Had.
Crumbs!
This isn’t a bashing of the trope of course but merely an opportunity to highlight just how butchered Hawkeyes introduction was and how Marvel utterly dropped the ball with such a wonderful character.
(And Jeremy Renner deserved better)
Anyway read more Clint Barton centered fics. They are great.
And for the love of god let that man out of the vents!

Recs: the best Clint/Bucky fics with under 200 kudos
I just finished combing through the entire Clint Barton/Bucky Barnes tag on AO3 sorted by kudos, which got to be a bit of a slog toward the end, but there were some delightful underappreciated gems buried in the mud. so I decided to share some favorites!
D.I.Y. (Demons In You), by @redteamshark (38k)
Clint and Bucky are renovating their new house, Clint is a YouTuber posting progress videos about the renovations, turns out the house is haunted. this one was the inspiration for this list, because based on the quality, length, and posting timeframe, I would expect this to have about 700-1000 kudos, and it has FIFTY-SIX. WHY. it's an engaging AU concept, the plot and relationship arcs are well-executed, it has fewer copyedit-level issues than some of the hugely popular fics, it hits good emotional beats, it's got fun minor character cameos, the HGTV-style home reno details are great. that kudos total is a cosmic error that requires rectification, pls assist

a job goes wrong and Clint needs money fast, so he gets a job as "the blond one" for all the boybands in a '90s tribute act, supervised by a mysterious hot bodyguard. super fun but not actually crack-level ridiculous, it mostly plays the premise pretty straight, and at the end it does something interesting with the framing device that my will-they-or-won't-they dopamine response liked very much :D

A bit of a mashup, set in an alternate universe, where a modern woman finds herself stuck in a medieval world. She needs the protection of a powerful man (guess who?) to stay safe in this world as there is danger in many places for an unaccompanied woman. Say a bad dream happened: like you almost lost him, so you're 17 year old ass will go check on him and end up just sleeping in his bed with him he's holding you proactively
Even if you're 80 years old your still his little girl.
And he knows. He knows you can protect yourself, bow and arrow and all.
It doesn't stop him from wanting to protect you.

Summary:
It’s not easy being a werewolf, but Steve Rogers knows he’s lucky. Lehigh's doing well under his care, the humans and werewolves thriving. He doesn't have a mate, but a bonding like that is rare, and with all the members of his Pack already mated, he knows it’s not going to happen for him.
Until the day it does, the realization literally knocking him on his ass.
That’s fine; he can deal. He’s an alpha after all, and while there are rules to courting when one’s mate is human, he knows he can prove his worth. Except no one told him how hard it would be. And Steve is really bad at this. Really, REALLY bad.
After a couple of rough years, Bucky Barnes is back on his feet and ready to start a new phase of his life. He’s been given a second chance and while Lehigh might not be as big as NYC, he loves his apartment, chonk of a cat, new job and crazy neighbors.
Except things have started to get weird. Maybe it’s because of all the werewolves in town, although he’s never had a problem before. Yet he can’t help but notice things have changed, with people staring at him wherever he goes, asking him strange questions, and stealing his lunch.
And it all started when a watermelon was left on his doorstep.
