This woman is Dr. Grace Murray Hopper. She created the first computer language compiler tools to program the Harvard Mark I computer. This computer was used in WWII after 1944. John von Neumann initiated the computer's first program, but Hopper invented the codes
Curious about coding? Study Hall just launched a new series: Code and Programming for Beginners! Follow along with host Sabrina Cruz to learn programming fundamentals, the specific types of code that build a program, and work through examples in Java.
My gender is a poorly written C program, in which a target 35–60% of the dedicated memory is assigned to femininity, 10–20% to masculinity, and the remaining 20–55% defaults to androgyny.
Its goal is to maintain a state such that femininity is at least the plurality, if not the majority, of the memory space, but occasionally it fails to do that for code reasons? idk I didn't program it and it's not open-source ._.
Hi! Little update on the Quizlet-like app, henceforth known and tagged as Innaflash. (One of my friend's ideas, and I'm a sucker for puns :) )
Tl;dr of below is i'd like opinions on the UI mockup so far, maybe some alternative color theme ideas.
No coding has happened yet, but I started making a UI mockup to get the brain juices going and also bc i just love messing around with color themes and graphic design, hee hee. I think I'm going with a webcore theme. Default will be purple, but there will be the option to change the theme (i already have the code for this so it's easy to implement). A couple images are above, I'd like to hear what you all think :)
Grace Hopper was born on December 9, 1906. An American computer scientist, mathematician, United States Navy rear admiral, and one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer, she was a pioneer of computer programming who invented one of the first linkers. She was the first to devise the theory of machine-independent programming languages, and the FLOW-MATIC programming language she created using this theory was later extended to create COBOL, an early programming language still in use today.
Programmers, Web designers, game developers, anyone else who does stuff with numbers on a computer screen.....curious to know if you guys ever dream in code, and if so, do you like it? I for one do not find it to be particularly enjoyable but want to hear what others have to say lol.
Getting myself hyped to write the shittiest code you've ever seen by imagining myself as a wizard controlling pulses of light that the average mortal man would back away from in fear
I know some people on the internet like to gawk/point and laugh at Terry Davis because “haha look at the funny crazy man” but real talk, he was one of the most gifted programmers of the past decade, and the fact his schizophrenia was as severe as it was is tragic. Terry created basically his own coding language, graphics engine, and game engine from scratch using nothing but a home computer in 2002. That shit was unheard of, and even today that is beyond impressive, even if the website looked like a toddlers scribbles, the fact he managed to do with one home computer what usually took an entire team of programmers to create is phenomenal
There was a video once, about a year or so before his death, where a group of people with no ill intent, no desire to harm or hurt Terry in any way, just sat down with him in a McDonalds and listened to the stories about his life, asked him for programming tips
It was one of the most heartwarming, yet bittersweet videos of Terry, because for the first time that anyone had seen, he was 100% lucid. None of his usual slur-filled conspiracies about the CIA wanting to kill him, no ramblings about being the second coming of Solomon or how he was the greatest person to ever live, he was completely lucid and respectful to the people he was speaking to and those around him, because he had people to talk to who shared his interests, and in a way that's heartwarming
Thinking about making a free quizlet alternative in java, I'd like suggestions on modes to add. Maybe I'll put it on github or something if I end up with a usable product so others can use it? (More details under cut)
Using quizlet for the first time in awhile and DAMN it sucks. Not only was the whole UI changed and made worse/ more corporate, EVERYTHING requires a membership now??? The asteroid mode (my favorite </3) was either removed or made pay only. Literally scrapping what i can thats free to study. Ik i can get a free trial but its about the principal.
ANYWAY. I've been building a java library that builds off FX (graphics library) that has made making programs w/ graphics quicker and easier. Plus, I already made a typing game similar to the asteroid mode in high school. Basically everything would be super easy to code I think, once I have the time.
I want to take a crack at learning how to code 👩💻 but have no idea how to get started learning in programming or what languages are the most useful to learn. Help anyone?
