A Slight Tangent about Dan Brown's Inferno Ability
Dan Brown is an oft-forgotten part of Bungo Stray Dogs history, he was created as part of a collaboration between KADOKAWA and Dan Brown himself for the release of The Da Vinci Code movie in Japan. A character was illustrated by Harukawa35 and an Ability was given to him by Asagiri.
Tumblr media
His ability is named after his novel "Inferno", the fourth in the Robert Langdon series of novels. The ability is best described as 'precognitive poetry' with him being able to write a poem which shows events 33 minutes into the future which is completely indecipherable because the poem itself is laden with religious symbolism that only Dan would understand.
Of course the part about it being completely indecipherable is based on his novels as stated by the reveal post by Natalie JP. But I want to dig a bit deeper about the 33 minutes part, why 33 minutes?
Apparently it's based on ancient mysticism. According to an interview by NBC News (link), Dan said the following:
"The lore of Freemasonry marks Washington in other hidden ways as well.  Consider, for example, the number 33, cherished by the Masons. Thirty-three is a very important number-- in ancient mysticism.  There's a reason that Jesus Christ was said to be 33.  There is a reason that there are 33 vertebrae in our spine and that much of Freemasonry has to do with the concept of the body as a temple." — Dan Brown
So yet again, I suppose the exact 33 minutes represent more of Dan Brown's use of symbolism in his stories. Short talk but it's been on my mind lately.

I understand where it's coming from. Just the way Dan Brown phrased this is funny to me and not what I expected

richardcarmitage ‘Duetting’ with Neil Gaiman at The Edition Hotel in Reykjavík. I ran way over time and we talked into the early hours. Neil is one of our most treasured storytellers and I have felt immensely privileged to get to know him while we’ve been at Iceland Noir. (X)
