Can you do Riddler headcannons about going to Disney World or more chaotic them going in a big group to Disney. I feel like Arkham and Telltale are the groups designated dads and Capullio is throwing a fit because they won’t stop to get him an ice cream again! 😂
Riddlers At Disney World
Riddler Headcanons this is perfect lmao (also shout out to my husband for sitting next to me and shouting out his own headcanons) so i picked disney world because i've been there more recently and there was more to choose from! i've assigned them all what i think their favourite park is too because i couldn't help myself also i would like to say that they're all wearing the same custom jumper. it's green with a question mark on the front and on the back it says "if lost please return to arkham" request info • prompt list • send me a request • kofi minors DNI!! 🔞 cw for nsfw stuff: mostly all fluffy but some language
Tumblr media
telltale
you are 100% spot on he is the designated dad of the group for sure. only because he's so grumpy and determined to remain calm even in the face of unbridled, nostalgic joy. he'll queue to get his picture taken with mary poppins and then he'll be the bag carrier for the rest of the day. he doesn't want to go on any rides, that's for babies. and god help you if you suggest he put on a pair of mickey ears. favourite park: downtown disney. booze, limited children, and for some reason he's just super into the idea of the hot air balloon
gotham
this is neither fun nor whimsical nor evil not intellectually stimulating. maybe MAYBE he would be vaguely entertained by what was on offer at tomorrowland, and he did like the dapper dans to be fair. but the haunted mansion did remind him of a certain someone's aesthetic. and so did the enchanted tiki room, so the whole time he was grinding his teeth and almost busting the vein at his temple... favourite park: the car park, especially on the way home, when the park is but a distant memory
dano
from the minute you get past the main gate, like the one at the car park, his stupid little smile has been pressed tight into his chubby cheeks. man is DESPERATE to heal that inner child, and part of the process is having a day long sugar high, meeting eeyore, eating three turkey legs and seven dole whips, and then napping in the monorail after the fireworks at the end of the day. he is literally bouncing. favourite park: hollywood studios. i know man is frothing at the mouth for the star wars shit and you can't convince me otherwise
arkham
wow ok he really thought he would hate this, but then the boat turned that first corner in it's a small world and his silly little eyes lit up. so. many. little. robots. my GOD the possibilities would be endless with an army of robot children. and you think he was vibrating with excitement after that one, wait till you see him encounter that freaky animatronic of the shaman on the avatar ride. favourite park: animal kingdom. it's nice to have a look at all the different animals so he can decide which ones he should attach lasers to next
capullo
you're so right, anytime he sees something he wants but can't have he's going to go in a little huff. the temper tantrum he had when gaston made a joke about being more manly than him was bordering on bad enough to get escorted out of the parks. also, he's not allowed to do any more character meet and greets because if he hits on one more princess he's getting a lifetime ban and a smack on the head. favourite park: he likes the water parks, for the wet milfs. hello potentially desperate single moms
unburied
he's only going on the fastest rides and good luck getting him to stop swearing in front of children, which while you're on the subject, he wants to know why there are so many children? and is it ok to kick them out of the way if they're particularly irritating? also, he's not sorry about the fact that he is going to pick the most irritating souvenirs. anything that is bulky, bright, and loud. just like him. favourite park: epcot. and not because of the frozen ride, definitely NOT because of the frozen ride, he's a fan of world cuisine
young justice
oh my god his feet hurt and you are not going to hear the end of it. why does he have to queue? do they not know who he is? and also, you wouldn't have to queue for so long if everyone had listened to him when he said he had worked out a plan with average wait times to calculate which rides to go to first. but no, everyone was too busy calling him a nerd. and now look, he's tired and cranky and he wants a fuckin churro. favourite park: magic kingdom (tomorrowland). but the carousel of progress freaks him out

Thinking about how Slipknot live absolutely sucked so bad when I saw them last year whereas seeing Korn over the past five years has always been like having an out of body experience

I first saw Slipknot at age 14.
No one knows how I managed it. I'm not sure I even remember. These days, you have to be 16 or 18 to get into Standing areas. I do know I had to buy tickets on the phone, back in the old days (2005, that is). A singular ticket, too - none of my friends, not even the classmate who had gone with me to see Linkin Park the year before, was that into Slipknot.
But I HAD to see them. This was the Subliminal Verses tour cycle, and Vol. 3 was my first and favourite Slipknot album, even to this day. It's the reliable old warm blanket for my soul whenever I need it. It's on right now, as I write this.
My memory isn't that good, but luckily I unearthed a livejournal (livejournal!) diary entry about the event I made the next day.
August 16, 2005. I went right after school. I went to a very conservative Anglican secondary school, too. I tried not to get caught in the bathroom, as I coloured my nails black with permanent marker (I know, don't laugh) and changed into my standard metalhead baby outfit - Slipknot band shirt, black cargo shorts, and my pride and joy: steel-toe boots I somehow managed to cajole my parents into letting me own.
I caught the bus to the open-air war memorial park where the gig was going to be. I got there at 4pm, 4 hours early. A couple other maggots were already hanging around. I found myself surrounded by tombstones, and I read them all. It was the middle of the Hungry Ghost Festival, too - a very fitting time for Slipknot to pay a visit to this godforsaken hellhole of a small town I lived in. (Especially given the paranormal circumstances surrounding the making of Vol. 3.)
While I wandered around the venue (no security or sound guys were around at all), I spotted two white vans pull up to the stage, in the middle of a clearing. It was them! I spotted Joey and missed him by a hair's breadth. I was quickly ushered behind the stone archway entrance by security then.
(Funnily enough, while walking around, I got mistaken for Joey more than once. I am the same height as him, had the same long black hair, same pale skin, and was wearing almost exactly what he had been. One person claimed from behind, I was a dead ringer, apart from when I turned around, and they realised I was Chinese.)
It was soundcheck time. A sound guy testing the mics would say random things, like "testing one two three two one.... fudge fudge, I like fudge...." The band even did Purity, so us earlybirds were given a rare treat, and we screamed along from the entrance, and drummed our fists on the sides of nearby porta-potties. I hope no one was in there at the time. Whenever we got a glance of any of them, we'd scream and cheer. Finally they left again, but were soon to return.
This was the first time I'd been a part of the metal community. I was barely allowed internet in those days. But here, random strangers were friendly, striking up conversations like they'd been friends for years. Two big guys, called Trevor and Ted, looked out for me the entire gig after, keeping other big dudes from crushing me too much (I'm 5'3, remember). Other people commented on me being so baby, because I was only 14, and said they would take care of me.
When we were finally let in, right after the usher cut the rope, I ran in, screamed "WOOOHOOO!" along with a few friends I'd made. I only briefly stopped to receive this RoadRunner Records compilation CD from a roadie, then resumed running like a madman screaming and dashing into the VIP cage.
I was right up against the barricade - the first time I would ever be at a gig. People from assorted magazines and press took photos of us, and I think I got my photo taken about 10 times at least.
(This is how I got in trouble with my parents the next day. My photo had ended up in a local paper - you can see examples of that here. They had no idea what I'd been to see the night before, and were horrified when they saw what Slipknot looked like.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We saw Sid filming us from the stage with a camcorder and screamed at him. We saw Jim and screamed at him too, and he flashed the victory sign back at us. I remember Metallica playing at the time, another one of my favourite bands.
The concert was a brutal religious experience I will never forget. People with their arms outstretched, crying and screaming out loud, moving like the devil possessed them.
The new friends around me made sure I was alright after every song! There were huge guys fainting behind us who had to get carried out, but I endured, a tiny 14 year old child. We got a family speech as per tradition, of course. "Are you guys out there all looking out for each other? We're all one big family, and we gotta look out for each other." What Corey said held true - strangers hugged, shook hands, talked, and made friends. I was heartened by how close-knit the maggot community was. It really did feel like a family, and it's felt like that ever since.
Of course, I did my first Jump The Fuck Up. It is possibly the most euphoria I've ever experienced all at one go. (Later, in 2020, I was extremely disappointed that I didn't get to do it again in London.)
They did the death masks for Vermilion, and I remember Chris helping Sid fix his mask and shirt when they'd changed back. Sid hung out near Clown's drums for most of the time too, and hugged him from behind and just latched on at one point. It was pretty adorable.
Fun fact: The version of Eyeless you hear on the 9.0 Live album is from Singapore, as is Eeyore. There are very few photos and videos from the crowd of this gig, because in 2005, very few people had camera phones. The crowd at the Slipknot gig in 2020 was a sea of arms with phones, filming the gig rather than experiencing it. Yes, I'm going to be that cranky old geezer who complains about the good old days.
Joey as usual, was fucking amazing and never failed. However, due to the fact that I was right up front, only his tiny head was visible behind his vast drum set, I couldn't see him the entire gig.
Tumblr media
Amazingly, the government told Slipknot they were not allowed to do obscene gestures, curse, vomit (possibly due to the decomposing crow pre-show ritual), simulate humping on objects, throw faeces, or jump off stage (looking at you, Sid). I don't think our totalitarian government knew who they were dealing with, because watch what happens next.
Near the end of the gig, Corey tells the crowd “your government has given us a laundry list of things we aren’t allowed to do, your government has told us we are not allowed to swear”. Crowd goes “BOOOOOOOOO” and Corey goes “BUT WE DON’T GIVE A FUCK!!” And they launch into Surfacing, the last song. Everyone riots. Best night of my life.
You can find the setlist from that gig here. It had everything I wanted and more.
This story later got immortalised when Kerrang asked maggots for gig stories, for an article which came out in 2020. I had forgotten entirely, until people began messaging me to tell me, and one friend sent me a scan of it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the way out, I managed to get a shirt. I remember calling my best friend at the time, and got everyone at the merch booth to go "IF YOU'RE 555 THEN I'M 666" for her. This shirt has since been lost to the landfill, because my Christian mother took it upon herself to dispose of it the first opportunity she got. Needless to say, our relationship is not very good.
After that, I even managed to get that Roadrunner compilation album they were giving out signed. The band was staying at the Carlton. Unfortunately, Joey wasn't there, neither was Clown, and Mick was swarmed by guitar nerds so, 6/9 it is. It is a great regret of mine that I'll never have anything signed by him, nor will I ever get to see him perform ever again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next day, I went to school, my head swimming. Yes, I went to see Slipknot ON A SCHOOL NIGHT. I was a giant bruise, from my ribs and my chest, to my hips and knees, from being slammed into the barricade like a screen door in a hurricane. Most of all, my sore, headbanged-out neck could barely hold my head up. Classmates thought I had been in a fight. I was torn between battle-scarred exhaustion and hyperactive ranting about the most amazing gig of my short life (it still is, to this day). When teachers spoke to me, I wanted to reply, "Fuck trigonometry! I've just seen SLIPKNOT. Do you not understand that my world is different? Do you not understand that *I* am now different?"
My country was a small, conservative town that Slipknot had graced with their unholy presence. Corey Taylor once said that where he grew up in Iowa had a way of making a 16 year old boy feel like a 36 year old man (or something to that effect). I felt that in my weary bones as a teenager, being from a place just like that. Years later, Watain would run into worse trouble, and wouldn't even be allowed to perform. The Christian stranglehold is stronger than ever. It was a good thing that back then Slipknot had the element of surprise, striking serpent-fast and choking this society by the neck for a too-brief time, before they departed.
After that, my desire to play the drums only grew like a weed. Joey Jordison had, has, and will always inspire me as a drummer, and seeing the beast live (or what little I could spy behind the massive riser) had only spurred me on. I had always been a noisemaker, be it driving my parents mad with chopsticks on pots and pans, or driving my teachers mad with pencils on my desk. But of course, my parents wouldn't have any of it. I'd have to wait a good 14 more years before I'd be able to afford lessons and later, a kit of my own. Better late than never, right?
There will never be enough words to describe the impact Joey has had on my life. And it isn't just Slipknot, either. I could write another essay on his time with the Murderdolls and its influence on my own gender-non-conforming ways. Suffice to say, my wardrobe doesn't look too dissimilar to his during the early Dead in Hollywood days.
I told my boss I could not come into work today. I was grieving. I said that my music teacher died, as I didn't think she'd understand the magnitude of my loss. In a way, it's true. And I am not the only one Joey has nudged on the path to being a musician, that much is certain. To the rest of us, I wish strength and love for you in this difficult time. The best way to honour Joey, who truly loved music, both the creation and appreciation of it, is to pass that gift on. Teach it to someone. He is the reason I picked up the sticks in the first place, and one day, they'll be handed on, the heavy metal baton for the next generation.
And finally: remember that the ones we have lost are never truly gone.

P.S. See if you can spot me in the crowd photos in this post!

Take My Hands Now (Part 5)
pairing: Jungkook x reader
word count: 2,291
genre: drama
summary: You were born with a condition that allowed you to feel the pain someone else was going through when you touched them. Jungkook, on the other hand, looked like he could not be any less bothered with other people’s feelings and was a well known playboy of the school. One night, at a party, while he attempted to turn you into his toy for the night, he grabbed your hand and pain crashed through you, making you wonder whether behind the facade of this pleasure seeker, he could also be hiding something.
warnings: none
Tumblr media
With an absolutely arbitrary deadline in mind, Jungkook dutifully headed to the bookstore the next afternoon. He bought you a caramel macchiato. “Last one”, he said as he left it on the counter for you.
You have started to get used to his wandering around the bookstore now. You still weren’t sure what kind of stunt he was trying to pull but you were fairly certain this will probably die down after a while, once he got bored or finds something better to do.
He sauntered around the children’s section and found the book he saw you perusing that first time he came here. "Pfft, Winnie-the-Pooh", he scoffed in a murmuring volume.
But he still ended up taking a copy and flipping through it. Jungkook was focusing more on the pictures than the words, eventually he landed on one page that looked similar to what he saw you reading that day:
“All I can tell you, Pooh and Piglet, is that right now I feel really rather Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All.
Which is why I haven't bothered you. Because you wouldn't want to waste your time hanging out with someone who is Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All, would you now."
Pooh looked at Piglet, and Piglet looked at Pooh, and they both sat down, one on either side of Eeyore in his stick house.
Eeyore looked at them in surprise. "What are you doing?"
"We're sitting here with you," said Pooh...”
---
Another day. Jungkook must have gotten tired of loitering in the bookstore, so he sat on the bench in the atrium of the mall facing the store, sipping on his iced chocolate while playing with his phone.
You knocked off from work and contemplated sneaking off without him noticing but somehow you felt that would be too mean. So, you walked over and said, “Are you not leaving?”
“I’m waiting for someone”, he replied matter-of-factly still looking at his phone.
Oh, he was? Guess you weren’t the reason why he stuck around then, you were mentally reprimanding yourself for assuming.
Just then, a low and refined voice came from behind you, “Why are you waiting here, you could have just waited at the restaurant”, the man who said this walked up to Jungkook. He was middle-aged, dressed in a bespoke suit and had a pleasant disposition.
“I was waiting for this one to finish her shift”, Jungkook pointed at you while replying. So, was he waiting for you or him? This is so confusing.
“Y/N, this is my dad. Dad, you wouldn’t mind if she joins us for dinner right?”, Jungkook said.
“Nice to meet you Mr. Jeon”, you blurted out, at the same time suppressing your urge to just run away.
“Nice to meet you too young lady. We are going to the hotel’s restaurant. Care to join us, Y/N? The chef we hired there is really good”, he asked as he gave you the friendliest smile you have seen from anyone of that stature. And wait, so they own the hotel annexed to the mall too?
Once you were seated at a corner table with a superb view of the city, the manager of the restaurant came over personally with the menu.
“What would the two of you like to have today?”, Jungkook’s dad said while turning the pages.
“Jungkook always gets the grilled steak here, Sir”, the manager said confidently, “medium rare again?”, he asked. Jungkook simply nodded his head without even opening the menu.
“Oh, does he? I’ll take the lamb chop instead, what about you, Y/N?”, Jungkook’s father added.
You ordered a pasta and his dad insisted on getting everyone a cup of coffee, although you really didn’t want one when it was already dinner time. The rest of the meal was cordial. A little too cordial.
His father seemed genuinely kind, gentlemanly, fatherly, but he was as much of those things to you as he was to Jungkook; it was almost as if he treated both of you with hospitality. Your dad will probably know your favourite dish at a restaurant or if you didn’t like a particular drink. But then again, this man looks like he carries half the world on his shoulders. Maybe rich families were just like that.
At the end of dinner Jungkook’s dad said the car was ready at the foyer, he reminded Jungkook to drop you off first at your hostel and excused himself to attend to a meeting.
Jungkook and you were taking the elevator down when it stopped at a random floor. The door opened and revealed a man and a woman waiting for it. The woman was clearly older but was very attractive and you couldn’t quite guess her age, the man had his arms around her waist.
The woman paused at the sight of Jungkook in the lift, and you could feel the intensity grow in the air surrounding him. The couple entered and the door closed.
“You came here to have dinner with him?”, the woman said after a while, her words cutting the awkward air, evidently aimed at Jungkook.
“Definitely not to see you”, he replied and you could almost feel him seething.
Who was she?
That was when the lift door finally opened at the ground floor, Jungkook contemplated dragging you out of there as quickly as possible but he stopped short of grabbing your wrist. He marched out past the two strangers and you were left to try to catch up to him.
“Jungkook, Jungkook!”, the woman shouted after him. “What time are you coming home tonight?”, her steps wobbled, which could be a result of the high heels she wore or could be something else.
When you caught up to Jungkook at the car, he shoved you in by the handle of your bag, and he got in hastily after you. The car drove off before she could make it through the lobby door.
Was she his mother?
---
Two days passed after that, and with each you felt like Jungkook was different from what you thought he was.
You slowly learnt a lot more about his father; he never spoke of his mother.
His father was the idol of his childhood. Even though everyone said his father married his mother for her riches, it never felt that way to him. His father would attend Jungkook’s school events, pick him up after classes and they would often hang out at an ice cream place after that. But then when Jungkook turned eight years old, his father became the CEO of the company one day and these things stopped. He hardly even saw his father around the house anymore after that.
“You don’t blame him for priotising his work over you?”, you remember asking Jungkook once.
He conveniently pulled out a Spiderman comic from the bookshelf next to where he was leaning against, “With great power comes great responsibility, Y/N. He's to me what Peter Parker is to Mary Jane, but to the company and all the people relying on him, he’s supposed to be Spiderman.”
Jungkook never blamed his father and he learnt that riches may bring some privileges but they also come with immense burdens.
---
You were heading to lecture with Namjoon one day, and Mirae came running up to the both of you in the middle of the stairs leading to the lecture theatre.
“Have you guys seen the news? Daebak…”, she whispered.
From your expressions she could tell that you both had zero idea what she was alluding to.
“There’s so many articles up now about Jungkook’s mom, only daughter of the BH group”, Mirae moved closer to the two of you, “She’s having affairs. And yes, it’s affairs, not just one. There was apparently a singer called Julian Yoo, a trainee from some big company, can’t quite remember his name, oh and also the actor Daniel Park. And this is just apparently the tip of the iceberg. What even? Come to think of it, maybe this is why Jungkook acts this way”, Mirae was rattling on and on until she could see the look in your eyes turning annoyed at that last sentence.
“We don’t know the full picture, and even if it’s true about his mother, should we really be dragging him into this?”, you questioned.
“Even if we don’t the others will still. Wonder if he’s gonna be coming to class today after all this”, Namjoon said objectively.
You sat in the lecture theatre constantly craning your neck to see if he was coming. Just a few minutes before the lecture was due to start, Jungkook strutted in in his usual posture. A backpack over one shoulder, hands in his pockets and looking as if the entire world can come at him but he wouldn’t bat an eyelid.
The murmurs in the lecture hall became discernible, Namjoon leaned towards you and said, “Got to admire him for that couldn’t-care-less attitude he has.” Meanwhile, you watched him with worry.
He glanced at you momentarily, registering your look of concern as he sat down at his usual spot at one of the rows below.
Jungkook was in fact indifferent to what had happened, it was about time anyway. If he had no qualms about everyone calling him a trashy playboy, why would he be any more bothered by them gossiping about her? He was her son after all; promiscuity must be genetic.
Regardless, he turned his head ever so slightly towards the back row where you were seated and thought to himself, “but what great timing for this news to break.”
---
He didn’t show up at the bookstore that afternoon. After the lecture, you saw him walk out, blending into the crowd of people, and that was it.
You tried to focus on your work. There was a new title that just came out and you were busy setting up the book display.
The people who looked the calmest may bear the strongest storms within them. What if he wasn’t as indifferent to the situation as he looked on the outside? You were so deep in thought that you didn’t even notice your finger bleeding from a paper cut caused by one of the freshly-minted book covers.
“You alright there?”, your store manager asked, eyes staring down at the droplets of blood pooling at your fingertips.
You looked down and thought for a moment, “no I’m not, actually”. You took your phone out from your jeans’ pocket and decided to message Jungkook.
“Where are you?”, you actually just wanted to know this one thing. Maybe he’s fine and out partying somewhere, you hoped.
Your phone buzzed.
“Why? You worried about me?”
At least he was alive.
“Not exactly”, you typed but then deleted the message before you could send it. You were still deciding what to reply when your phone buzzed again, another message from him.
“Last room, basement, arts faculty. Come if you want, it’s fine if you don’t.”
Arts faculty? Wasn’t he in business school? It didn’t really matter because there was a more pressing question – were you going to go?
---
The room was clearly different from the other practice rooms, for the reason that it no longer resembled anything close to a practice room. Jungkook was sitting alone in the dimly lit chamber, cans of beer were strewn across the table and the floor. You walked in like you were entering a dragon’s den for the first time, trying very hard to make sure not to cause the dragon to stir.
Your shoes brushed past a crushed can and the jarring clattering noises has Jungkook looking up at you. He exuded the same vibes as the first night you met him; eyes the usual shade of darkness, moat of nonchalance and arrogance surrounding him.
He stared at you intently, and he spoke challengingly.
“Are you going to ask if I’m alright again? I’m not. So, for the second time, what are you going to do about it?”
What were you supposed to do in a time like this? What could you do for him? You walked over and sat next to him quietly.
Jungkook watched your every move closely. Were you just pitying him? Or does this mean his plan is succeeding?
You two sat in silence for a very brief moment.
“You know, Y/N, you should really take a page out of the other girls’ books. No guy will want you to just sit next to him when he is feeling down. That was not what I had in mind when I asked you what you were going to do about this”, his elbow was anchored on the armrest of the couch but his hands were waving around as he uttered those words.
He always spoke with a tinge of frivolity, you wondered whether it was his defence mechanism.
“If you called me here for that sort of reason, then I’m sorry, you may have gotten the wrong person. And honestly, I don’t know what can actually make you feel better, Jungkook, really…”
It was the first time you said his name. He was surprised that he wasn’t even getting frustrated about you rejecting his advances.
“But, if I can’t comfort you… I can try to share your pain”, you said as you held out a hand.
A beat passes.
“If that will make you feel less lonely, then take my hand.”
All he could do was stare at the hand you had extended to him. He said nothing, because what you said felt like everything.

Pooh Characters as Queer Environmentalists
No seriously.  I had a very vivid dream involving all the Winnie The Pooh characters as a group of enthusiastic (and queer) environmentalists who meet once a week to talk about environment things because they’re nerds.
Starring Christopher Robin, Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo, Gopher, Eeyore, and Piglet.
·       Christopher Robin
o   33 years old
o   Head/leader/founder of the Environmentalist Group
o   Really interested in saving the whales
o   Chill dude, but kind of an airhead
o   Everyone thinks he’s some kinda office worker
o   One day someone accidentally found out that he’s the CEO of some green-planet organization and runs this group for fun to see what kinds of ideas he can get and to see what people think of environmentalist efforts
o   He always credits people for their ideas, but people assumed that he just worked for the company, not that he ran the damned thing
o   A pansexual icon
o   Has been to every single pride event that their city has ever had
o   Rumour has it he started the pride events
o   Wilder rumour has it he threw the first stone at the Stonewall Riots
o   Even wilder rumour has it that he’s an immortal vampire who survives on the blood of homophobes
o   He won’t deny any of these rumours but has yet to confirm it
o   Has a genderqueer partner that literally nobody has met
o   Seriously, not even Pooh
·       Pooh
o   29 years old
o   Really wants to save the bees
o   Like, REALLY wants to save the bees
o   Vegetarian, but because he doesn’t like meat
o   Massive sweet tooth; dentists hate him!
o   Ace/Aro
o   Loves children, wants to adopt his own someday
o   Babysits Roo all the time
o   Kanga and him are best friends
o   He brings little sweets for Roo every meeting
o   Perhaps a little bit of a pothead but he’s not addicted
o   He just smokes a joint once in a while to chill out
o   A stereotypical “make love not war” hippie
o   Nice to everyone all the time
o   Cries when someone is mean to him
o   Gets uncomfortable when people hit on him
o   Christopher’s little brother
o   A visual artist; uses lots of colours and sells his art at galleries and markets
·       Tigger
o   27 years old
o   ADHD
o   Like SUPER ADHD
o   Gay
o   Hit on Pooh once but when Pooh got uncomfy he backed off
o   Thought maybe Pooh was uncomfortable with gays and was confused and sad
o   When he found out Pooh was Ace/Aro he totally understood
o   They’re good friends now
o   Really wants to save rainforests and trees
o   A freelance writer; his books are elementary school Magic Treehouse shit
o   Very much into fantasy shit, his non-children’s series’ lore is always the deepest mindfuck ever, how the hell did he even come up with that
o   Bestselling author tho
o   Kinda famous tbh but he doesn’t like media attention
o   He just thinks everybody should have fun all the time
o   Does he vape? Probably.  Has anyone ever actually seen him do it?  No.
o   Does he sleep? Probably.  Has anyone ever actually seen him do it?  Once.
o   Kanga caught him powernapping when she came into one of the first meetings really early, but all she did was put a blanket on him and leave to go to the convenience store or something to stay out for a bit longer so he could rest
o   He didn’t know who it was until a bit later he figures it was her since she’s always knitting and it was a very pretty knitted thing
o   That’s his momma figure now
·       Rabbit
o   25 years old
o   Vegan and very in-your-face about it
o   “Bugs are important to the ecosystem but boy do I hate them in my garden”
o   Scifi enthusiast
o   Post-apocalyptic things slightly terrify him because he believes that’s how the world is gonna go
o   A bit of a conspiracy theorist
o   Genuinely believes the government is vaguely spying on everybody
o   Did Bush do 9/11?  Who knows… but the moon landing was real, and the earth is round, don’t be dumb
o   Just identifies as queer, doesn’t like labels
o   A very organized person but when he’s very upset perfectionism scares him bc he thinks he’s not ever gonna be good enough and will mess things up on purpose
o   Has a long-distance boyfriend
o   A farmer
·       Kanga
o   38 years old
o   Divorced trans woman
o   Has a 5 year old son that she fostered as a baby and adopted when he was 4
o   Recycles aggressively
o   Calls everyone “dear”
o   Uses reusable bags and plastic containers all the time
o   Knits a lot, everybody always gets scarves or mitts or hats for Christmas
o   Usually in the design of ‘planet earth’, but also makes pride flag designs and takes requests for fave colour schemes
o   Vegetarian but not aggressive ab it like Rabbit is
o   You know what she is a bit aggressive about? Recycling
o   If you throw something that’s recyclable in the garbage in front of her...
o   Lord help you
o   Last man who did that was never seen again
o   Okay that’s a lie, he was seen two weeks later
o   But he was advocating for a save the whales organization on the side of the road and wearing all thrift store clothing
o   She traumatized him into throwing himself into the environmentalist pit headfirst
o   Thinks Gopher is just a big softie; is the only one who is super nice to him all the time (besides her son, and Pooh who is nice to literally everyone)
o   Kinda has a thing for the grumpy man but won’t admit it
o   She’s like an accountant or something, nobody knows what she does for a living but she seems to be well-off
·       Roo
o   The adopted 5 year old son
o   A little bit spoiled, but not just by Kanga, by everyone in the group
o   Loves sitting in on the meetings
o   His first sentence at 15 months was “recycle that!”
o   Loves blue because of recycle bins
o   Literally wears nothing but blue
o   Will accept things that are less than 100% blue as long as its more than 50% blue
o   Also likes things with pink on them
o   Thinks Tigger is the coolest person ever
o   Doesn’t understand all of Tigger’s books but reads them anyway
o   Except the non-children’s ones of course
o   Reads everything he can get his hands on
o   Don’t let him get his hands on anything inappropriate for a 5 year old
o   Asks a lot of questions
o   Everyone adores him
o   His mama is his favourite person on the planet but also Mr Tigger is so cool
o   He likes Mr Gopher too, he thinks Mr Gopher is great because of “how happy Mama is when he’s around”
·       Eeyore
o   23 years old
o   Has depression
o   Trans boy
o   Just really wants friends
o   Wants to help the planet
o   Is a massive pessimist that thinks the world is doomed
o   Very smart boy
o   Talks about CO2 emissions and carbon taxes
o   A university student studying some kinda chemical engineering
o   Very quiet
o   Bit of a crush on piglet tbh
o   Has a big love for superheroes without powers because he loves the idea of things being solvable through hard work mixed with passion and technology
o   Except he doesn’t believe it because his depression makes him super pessimistic
o   Also a big tech nerd
·       Gopher
o   45 years old
o   Landlord of their meeting place
o   Grumpy ass old man
o   Sometimes people are grumpy right back to him and he’s ok with that
o   Actually a soft spot for these weird hippies and joins them sometimes but says its because he wants to make sure they’re not damaging the place (they know that’s a big fat lie but won’t say anything)
o   Will fight anyone who mocks them
o   Has actually fought someone who mocked them
o   Has not told them about said fight
o   Especially adores Roo
o   Thinks Kanga is a bit of an odd woman but also thinks she’s very pretty
o   Repressed bisexual
o   He thinks nobody knows he’s bi but eventually when he kinda mentions it he realizes everyone knows
o   Specifically, Piglet and Kanga are super supportive
o   He definitely actually has a crush on Kanga, who knitted him a bisexual flag scarf once
o   He wears it all the time but will vehemently deny that it’s the same scarf when called on it
o   Big brawny weirdo
o   Was a football player in college and can definitely bench-press everyone
o   Works construction now, which is why he’s still in good shape
o   Actually a brilliant man, can architect and calculate like nobody’s business
o   Will help Piglet with his mathematics homework in exchange for Piglet teaching him more things about the LGBT+ community
o   After a while he realizes that perhaps genderfluid fits him well but Piglet is sworn to secrecy
o   Has a daughter who is institutionalized for her mental health issues that grew beyond his care
o   Piglet reminds him of his daughter and he’s very protective
o   That’s why he legit fought that asshole who mocked the “little F****t hippies”
o   He was almost arrested for assault on that one actually
o   The cop was a buddy of his and 100% believed the “defense of those who can’t defend themselves” explanation that Gopher had
o   Got off with a warning and fined for “disturbing the peace” or some mundane BS
·       Piglet
o   21 years old
o   Gay and demiboy
o   Anxiety disorders through the roof
o   OCD
o   Recycling is a compulsion
o   Reducing energy consumption too
o   He checks his lights all the time
o   He walks or bikes everywhere
o   He says it’s to reduce CO2 emissions
o   He’s just scared of vehicles
o   Has some kinda PTSD but nobody knows the source
o   He got into a massive car accident when he was little
o   Because his father was angry and speeding
o   His mother died in the accident
o   But nobody knows this!  Someday he will tell them tho
o   Today is not that day
o   Tomorrow is not that day either
o   But someday
o   Crush on Eeyore
o   Also a university student
o   Studying mathematics because it makes sense to him
o   Gopher reminds him of his grumpy old gay uncle who died when he was in high school
o   Feels like he can actually not double-check or cross-reference anything that Gopher teaches him because he trusts him a lot
o   Still will sometimes check everything if he’s having a bad day
o   Gopher doesn’t mind, he understands that Piglet has a lot of anxiety issues
o   Has an exception in his uni file to be able to take twice as long on his exams and tests and get an extra few days for assignments because he checks every single answer 3 times
o   His OCD number is 3, everything is 3, he turns his lights on and off 3 times, etc

Would you like to be a fly on the wall, observing someone else's life? No. People would try to swat me all the time, and I’d rather not have that level of stress lmao. Would you be interested in building a water feature for a garden? It would be nice, but not necessary. Do friends come to you for ideas for things like haircuts? Not really, and I’d rather they didn’t. I’m bad with advice like that and I much prefer giving life advice. Do you know anybody, who's gone to university at the age of 16? A lot. It’s a normal sight and it doesn’t mean that they excelled in high school. Public school students here typically graduate by 16 because most of the time they’ll only have one year of kindergarten/prep and not have Grade 7, so they’re always like two years ahead of private school kids. Does your keyboard have a wrist rest? No. I didn’t know those existed until now.
Do you have plants in your house? If so, what kind/s? Yeah, we do. I’m not sure what kind they are cos I never really bothered to find out. Do you consider the letter Y a consonant or a vowel? Consonant. When you're really thirsty, do you go for still water or sparkling water? Still. I’ve never tried sparkling water and I’m not really interested since I think it’s fizzy, and I don’t like fizzy drinks. If you carry a water bottle, do you reuse the same one or buy a new one? I have a tumbler. If you wear them, what are your loudest pair of earrings? Hoop clip-on earrings. Would you rather wear a tie or a bowtie? I think a bowtie would suit me. How many birds can you name just by looking at them? Probably not more than 15; birds aren’t really my strong suit haha. Which birds are most common around your neighbourhood? Maya. When's the last time you had a pot luck? More than a year ago at Angela’s mom’s birthday dinner. If you don't understand a reference in something, do you look it up? Yep, it really bugs me when I don’t understand something. Are you the kind of person to look at accident sites, when passing them by? When I drive by one, I’ll look at it for like a split second and – whether I’m able to process what happened or not – continue driving. The reason why it’s always so traffic at accident sites is because drivers take up SOOOOO MUCHHHHHH TIMEEEEEEE looking at them and wanting to see what’s up, and it’s a huge pet peeve. Do you ever see candles burning by the road side? I don’t think I’ve seen this happen. Did you ever make dolls or hand puppets in primary/elementary school? We probably did, but I don’t remember. Aren't baby chicks adorable? Sure.
Have you ever seen a polydactyl cat? No. Do you find Polish folklore interesting? Generally I don’t find folklore a fun topic, but I’m sure the Polish kind has interesting stories for those into it. If so, what are some of your favourite aspects of it? Have you ever been interested in the Middle Ages at all? Meh, it’s okay. I could read about other eras. Are there any languages you could try to work out what some words mean? Spanish. A LOT of Filipino words are borrowed from Spanish, e.g. bintana from ventana (window), kabayo from caballo (horse), kutsara from cuchara (spoon). Has a friend's parent ever given you a present just because? Yes. Angela’s mom does this for me a lot. What do you do with clothes you can't wear anymore? I pass them down to younger relatives or have them donated. What is something you're very particular about? Files on my laptop and grammar/spelling/amount of research in school papers. What is your dearest stuffed animal that you own? Why is that? I don’t have one. Have you ever had to try to pronounce words that have letters with umlauts? Yes. I’m typically unfamiliar with most of them and the only one I tend to remember is é because Beyoncé. Are you more an Eeyore, a Piglet or a Tigger? Eeyore, fosho. Name something awesome from another culture that is not part of yours: KOREAN FOOD!!! Do you have an appliance running right now? If so, which one? An electric fan. What makes you wary about a person? If they’re too much of an extrovert. Do planes fly over your area often? Meh, not really. We’d get them once in a few hours. When at a Chinese or Japanese restaurant, do you use chopsticks? Depends on the food I’m having. I’d use chopstick for sashimi or bits of meat; I’d use my hand for sushi; and I’d use a spoon and fork for rice meals like katsu. If you could, would you enhance your body with technology? If it would benefit me, sure? I guess? I’m not opposed to it, at least. ^If you would, what would you have done? Boob job. HAHA or idk, time travel maybe if we got to that point??? What are you grateful for NOT having? Acne. What's something you can't wait for about growing old? Retiring with a shitload of money and taking vacations for the rest of my life. How do you expect your life to go like? How are you ensuring that? I’m not holding up any grand expectations for my life at 21 because that’s going to drive me crazy. I just want to survive and be able to eventually provide for myself, dude. Or do you just wing it as you go? It’s half-winging and half-still remembering to be responsible as I weave through life. What's a yard game that you still enjoy playing as an adult? I don’t think I’ll enjoy playing those types of games anymore haha. What do you think is the most interesting sea creature? I once saw a gif of how seahorses give birth and I thought that was pretty fucking hardcore. How do you reset your head to zero, so to speak? I shut myself down first and stop talking to everyone to allow myself some time and space to breathe and feel. Have you ever gone exploring an abandoned building? Nah, I think I’d be too scared to do this unless it was part of a planned tour. What's for dinner today? Probably pandesal with some gourmet spicy peanut butter that we bought today. Nothing fancy since we already had a big lunch and we’re all still pretty full. Are there any foreign television shows you enjoy watching? Everything is foreign to me lmao so yes – Black Mirror, Breaking Bad, Queer Eye, Hell’s Kitchen, etc.

(DJ) Spoon’s Review of 2018
This year I haven’t listened to much music at all, at least not in comparison to previous years and I certainly haven’t been to many gigs. I’m sure this won’t last but this year I’ve been busier at work so less likely to plug in, I’ve stuck to the radio in the car just to keep up with how messy Brexit really is (ooer a bit of politics) and my runs have been 100% fueled by podcasts so music has just taken a backseat. However, I couldn’t let the year go past without some kind of list...so here is a pot pourri of my favourite discoveries of 2018.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Podcasts
Seeing as these have been so important this year I’ll start here...and cheat slightly by bigging up some oldies, but good enough to bang on about again.
Old favourites : Running Commentary (Comedians Paul Tonkinson and Rob Deering take you on their runs and chat sometimes about running, but always about life, kids, comedy and anything that pops into their heads), Adam Buxton (always entertaining ramble chat from Dr Buckles whoever is on, I’ve learnt stuff and I’ve laughed a lot), My Dad Wrote a Porno (Sheer filth as ever but genuinely caused me to LOL during my runs, wondering if people can hear that I’m listening to chat about vaginal lids).
New entries : Off Menu (Ed Gamble and James Acaster opened their genie run fantasy restaurant a month ago and it has quickly become one of my favourite podcasts ever. Eclectic guests pick their fantasy 3 course meals, simple premise and it works. The Scroobius Pip episode was a perfect clash of two excellent pods), Blank (another late entry into 2018 from Jim Daly and Giles Paley-Phillips ostensibly about blank moments in life but just rammed with infotaining chat from ‘non standard’ guests including a jaw dropping episode with Michael Rosen and fun with Gary Lineker and Susie Dent), Poddin’ on the Ritz (sadly now finished with maybe its only series) this pod recorded backstage at Young Frankenstein by Hadley Fraser and the sublime Ross Noble made me laugh more than any other in 2018, it might be about musicals but their search for Kenneth Branagh’s snowglobes and Lesley Joseph adoration was a joy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Board games
They say a family that plays together, stays together. Well we are together more than you can imagine. We’ve played over 220 games this year! Here are our favourite new games into our collection:
The game of the year is Azul, a seemingly simple tile grab and place game, building up a mosaic prettier than anyone else, is full of strategy and a little (but not too much) shafting of others. If you really want to shaft your fellow players though then pick up Unstable Unicorns, a card game where you aim to grow your stable of unicorns, whilst stopping others filling theirs. SO many different cards, tactics and ways to mess it up, you will swear at some point. Discovered in the excellent new board game cafe The Dice Box in Leamington, we bought Meeple Circus before we left, it’s that much fun. Rehearse and perform the best tiny wooden meeple circus performance, accompanied by a bespoke playlist. Stack the acrobats, balance the lions and raise the bar. Another board game cafe, Chance & Counters in Bristol introduced us to the frantic game of Klask, a cross between air hockey, pool and table football. Slide the magnets around to flick a ball into your opponents hole, avoid the magnetic biscuits and don’t KLASK! When is a game not a game? another game of the year has been played a lot in our house, and it’s The Mind. 100 cards numbered 1-100, no words between players and a tense task to lay cards in ascending order. Simple? yes? possible? nope! but it’s sure to cause fun and arguments. The final two of MY favourite sadly aren’t quite as loved by my family, but I’ll get them there. Sagrada is a similar game to Azul with you attempting to build a beautiful stained glass window with coloured dice. More variations and thinking needed than Azul which adds to the challenge. And finally and lovely chess like 2 player game which transports you to the sun dappled Greek island of Santorini. Take the powers of a god and build the traditional blue domed white houses of the island whilst trying to stop your opponent climbing onto a roof. A lot of ‘aha, you’ve stopped me’ moments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. TV
It’s been a long old year at work, and in the world of parenting so we’ve found ourselves flopped on the settee many evenings just soaking up great drama, comedy and chilling ;o)
We are very late to the party with Suits but that means we have 8 series to wade through! Really neat writing, bants and relationships between characters, a ‘don’t worry they will always win’ calmness about it and you get to see the Queen in her knickers...ish. Another Netflix treat this year was Magic for Humans with Justin Willman, a hugely likeable and funny magician pulling off tricks that constantly make me smirk with a huge dollop of WTF? amazing. A huge recommendation. A late entry to my TV highlights of 2018 is from the warped warped mind of Charlie Brooker...of course with Bandersnatch. An interactive choose your own adventure TV ‘event’ (I know) that had us hooked for the full 90 minutes (only if you want to see how much bloodshed you can invoke!). Completely on the other end of the spectrum was the sublime and minimalistic Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing. I don’t like fishing and why would I find two old mates just teasing each other for half an hour entertaining? No idea but it was beautiful. Like Radio 4, comforting and perfect. Then a few suspenseful dramas that got us on the edge of the settee, Killing Eve (quirky AF), Bodyguard (did they really kill Keely Hawes that early?) and Informer (bleak bleak bleak) and sweaty bullocks in ‘should be in the next section really’ Bird Box (made Informer seem like a giggle fest).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Films
Really haven’t been to the cinema much in the last 12 months and only once to see a ‘grown up’ film I think but kid’s films are SO good at the moment that’s ok. A few stand out films for me were:
Ralph Breaks the Internet, much better than the first one, lots of #lolz internet jokes and more than a little heart. Wrap me up in a duvet and give me a hot cocoa and Paddington 2 any day, tears at the end. A little more sighing but just as much emotion in Christopher Robin, not sure why Eeyore had an American accent but the characters were spot on and nicely faithful to the original concepts. The one time I did venture out for an adult (it’s a 12 so almost ;o) and saw Ready Player One I was delighted, yeah it might not be a) as good as or b) anything like the book but a visual treat and an enjoyable romp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Books
I read A LOT, until my Kindle donks me on the head in bed anyway...literally a tiny selection of books that have kept me awake.
The Secret Lives of Colour - Kassia St Clair. They say never judge a book by its cover. Well that didn’t work...I bought this purely because it is a beautiful package, the hardback a lot more pleasing imho. Simply 2 coloured pages about how each colour was discovered, invented and introduced throughout history. I never really gave it a thought that colours were...made. Weird and fascinating.
This Is Going to Hurt - Adam Kay. A hilarious ‘secret’ diary of a junior doctor that horrifies at the same time. I think we all knew it was a hard life but bloody hell, if you didn’t love the NHS before you will after this. A thoroughly enjoyable and insightful story of Adam’s journey through medicine. And that ending...wooof.
Moose Allain - I Wonder What I’m Thinking About. I love Moose, I love his colour-me-advent calendars, I love his tweet threads that show the best in Twitter, I love his cartoons and this book is all of those wrapped up in one. And a certain Mr Spoon is to thank for the publication, find me in the back of Unbound funders! An inspiring book for anyone who loves art, creativity and childish humour.
Factfulness : Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World - Hans Rosling. A brilliantly clever and educational book about why the world is NOT as shit as it might seem some times. It’s all backed up by real data and lovely lovely graphs!
Lee Child and Ian Rankin. A highlight of the year is the next Reacher and Rebus novels and these two didn’t disappoint. Rebus’ latest adventure Past Tense, is a self-contained story that could introduce anyone to the man machine that is Jack Reacher. Rebus however is back, retired but won’t lie down, in In A House of Lies, an old case comes back to haunt him and will this finally be his downfall? I doubt it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Music
As mentioned, I haven’t ‘been into music’ as much in 2018 for various reasons but I’ve still enjoyed some great new discoveries:
Barns Courtney - The Attractions of Youth, discovered via the use of Glitter and Gold for the theme tune of Netflix’s Safe. An album of ‘cheesy, commercially viable blues and folk rock’ apparently. I just liked the visceral nature of some of the tracks and it always fired me up at work on slow days.
Isaac Gracie - Isaac Gracie, a rare listened to recommendation from my wife. Isaac is everything I claim to like, fragile thin sensitive boys with acoustic guitars....and I do very much with this. Painful screeched out tales of heartbreak. Sublime.
R.E.M. - Live at the BBC, 104 rare and live tracks from arguably one of the best bands ever. Some of the tracks I haven’t heard since my bootleg cassette buying days at Sheffield Uni, when the world was in black and white. Not all tracks are of the greatest audio quality but bliss for a fanboy like me.
Creep Show - Mr Dynamite, a spin off project for Mr John Grant and even from the eclectic crooner this is an odd one. Glitchy electronica with vocoders all over the place. Weird and very Marmite.
Public Service Broadcasting - Every Valley and everything else. The latest offering from the other PSB was a trip through the miner’s crisis and Thatcher years. Bleak? yup but fascinating snippets of well, public service broadcasting and guest stars including the obligatory Welsh rockers the Manics. This album is perfect by itself but it ‘forced’ me to go back and really discover all the PSB albums. The Live at Brixton release is a huge recommendation, I wish I was there.
Rex Orange County - Apricot Princess, maybe I just added this in to seem cool as Rex, aka Alexander O’Conner, was ‘one to watch in 2018′ from the BBC. A multi-instrumentalist that dabbles with hippity hop, R&B and piano pop. The first track alone contains about three musical styles if you wait.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Food & Drink
I run, because I really like food. And thankfully I’ve run a lot in 2018 so I got to enjoy a lot.
I was introduced to the weird fermented tea monstrosity that is kombucha by my sister-in-law. Vinegar tasting drink that may or may not help your gut that grows in your living room. WTAF? However, health benefits aside the LA Brewery Strawberry and Black Pepper drink is something, alongside my pilgrimage to Leon, worth going to London for. I’ve heard it’s also for sale in Solihull but I don’t often travel that far beyond my class ;o) I’d say, try it...but I suspect 9/10 people with hate the flavour.
I suspect 10/10 people that try the Aldi Black Forest Mince Pies would love them, but you won’t get a chance as I’ve bought them ALL. Aldi are a bugger for getting you hooked then never restocking. I only managed 10 boxes in 2018 and we’ve rationed well so have 12 left to get us through the bleak January weather. Cherries, Dark Chocolate, Chocolate pastry and a smidge of mincemeat. Perfect!
There are many ingredient delivery services available and I’ve only tried Gousto but I don’t know why you’d go anywhere else. 33 recipes tried and 32 of them I’d have again, with the one not so good one was still far better than anything I’d cook by myself. So easy, so tasty and if you want to try it I can give you a big discount that will help us buy another box, a tad expensive without a discount but worth a treat every so often.
Genuinely I traveled to London just to visit Max’s Sandwich Shop...kinda. It was certainly the deciding factor in a day out at the Summer Exhibition (see below). I downloaded the Kindle version of this book when it was promoted in an email, I bought some Scampi Fries and made a Fish Finger sandwich, I crumbled up some Ginger Nuts into a Mascarpone and Jam sandwich and I made a Fried Egg, Shoestring Fried and Gammon sandwich then I NEEDED to go and see how it’s really done. Amazing over the top sandwiches in a rough little hipster cafe in Stroud Green (no me neither and it’s a long walk from the tube!). So good I had to a) buy the hard copy of the book and b) carry half the sandwich home as even I couldn’t manage it all...not with deep fried macaroni balls filling me up ;o)

8. Places
A family that plays together, stays together as a great man once said. And we don’t just play inside, we love adventures so adventures we had.
I’d never been to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, as it’s in that there London which often seems hundreds of miles away...but I’m so glad that I visited this year. A trip with a good friend with neither of us knowing quite what to expect. We saw, and laughed, and marveled at, paintings, sculptures, videos, photos, models, and weirdness by Banksy next to Joe Lycett next to Grayson Perry next to Harry Hill, next to me mate Lorsen Camps from Coventry. The SA allows ANYONE to submit artwork for consideration and anyone can be accepted. I think this has to become a yearly visit, awesome.
My parents have been wanting to take our kids, and their big kid, to The Forbidden Corner in North Yorkshire for a few years now...and I’m so happy we finally got round to going. Started as a folly to entertain his children this huge labyrinthine site is crammed with strange sculptures, mazes, tricks and squirting fountains. Many hours were spent squeezing through holes, getting lost and getting wet. Beautifully eccentric.
A family holiday to Brittany meant we could visit the loopy city (it’s their phrase!) of Nantes and more importantly Les Machines d’Ile. Ostensibly the workshop of  a group of engineers and artists that make huge animatronic machines and animals...that you can ride on! Needs to be seen to be believed, the Elephant brings out the big kid in everyone...and we can’t wait to go back in a few years when they’ve built a huge forest over the river with ride on caterpillars and dragonfly. Incredible. The city itself is dotted with crazy art and interactive pieces encouraging play, I know a city closer to home that should be the UK Loopy City of Culture!
Luckily Tilly is a Harry Potter obsessive AND it was her birthday last year so it gave us the excuse we didn’t need to visit the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour. Wow, just wow. The incredible detail in everything made for the film, the engineering, the amount of artists involved and the presentation of the exhibition blew us away. I’ve enjoyed everything in this list but this maybe was the most magical in the best way.
Many many amazing experiences warrant a mention, but I just don’t have enough words, include Talking Birds - Walk with Me, Print Manufactory Darkroom Workshop, Ludic Rooms Random String Festival, Go Karting with Tilly, some dancing balloons in Broadgate, Godiva Festival with Tony Christie et al, Bristol Gromit trail, Disc Golfing with my girls, Edinburgh Fringe with Dick and Dom and with another wonderful dick from Coventry starring in Bon Jovi musical We’ve Got Each Other, Pandas! at Edinburgh Zoo, Matilda the Musical with Tilly at last, running the Coventry Mile with the girls’ school, Dippy the Dinosaur in Brum, Wicksteed Park (amazing family fun theme park like what they used to be), Cycling on Stratford Greenway in the sun, Autotesting at MotoFest, Bourton-on-the-Water (it’s just a shame 3 million other people know about this gorgeous village), Giant Pac Man in the city centre, Pork Pie making with a good friend, CET several times, Novelty Automation in London and being on The One Show, a couple of Hope & Social gigs and much much much more fun with my wonderful fam and friends. Roll on 2019!

11 Questions
the rules: answer the questions given to you by the tagged, write 11 questions of your own and tag 11 people.
I was tagged by: @imxthexhandler
Ephiny’s 11 Q’s:
Coffee or tea? And if you have to drink the other, what kind can you tolerate the best?
Coffee. Almost every single damned time, I will choose coffee. However, I’m British and as such it’s my patriotic duty to have a soft spot for tea. If coffee is not available, I’ll happily enjoy a decent cup of tea.
What is the one movie you can watch a million times and never tire of?
I have a few and I call them my ‘comfort movies’. Like comfort food but in movie form. They are: Avengers, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Pacific Rim, Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
What is your favorite Halloween costume? Or cosplay, if you don’t celebrate?
I don’t really do dressing up, even at Halloween which I love.
Which fairy tale would you like to see turned into a novel or a movie?
I watched the Huntsman last night and I was thinking about how awesome it would be to have true love’s kiss come from someone who isn’t romantically involved with the one they are kissing. I’ve seen a few posts on here talking about it and that’s something I would adore to see in films and novels. Less forced romance for the sake of it, more love that feels natural and beautiful.
Do you like bubble tea?
Yes. There is only one place that serves it in my city unfortunately.
If you could pilot any of lions in Voltron, which one would you choose?
I have no idea because I haven’t seen Voltron!
It’s three in the morning, you’re at the local corner shop/gas station, and you have $5 in your pocket… What do you grab for your late night/early morning snack/mini-meal?
Some sort of pastry like brioche or croissant, a bottle of soda, and a bag of doritos.
Do you like sushi?
I LOVE sushi. It’s one of my favourite things ever.
Do you have any plushies? Any special ones?
I do and I probably have more than a 38 year old woman should have! My favourite is my Eeyore which my Dad got for me during a work trip to the States. I’ve had Eeyore since I was 18.
What cliched writing trope grates on your nerves?
One that has really grated my nerves recently is the Marvel fandom assumption that Steve Rogers doesn’t know anything about modern technology or modern slang. Have you been paying attention? Steve is a smart cookie who learns how to adapt quickly. Please stop writing him as not knowing how to use a smart phone or whatever! Also, please do the same for Thor while you’re at it. The guy is highly educated and comes from a race of advanced beings whose technology surpasses our own.
Are you ever gonna give me up, gonna let me down, gonna turn around and desert me?
Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye, never gonna run around and hurt you.
Koi’s 11 Questions:
If you could have dinner with four fictional characters, who would you pick?
Vampires, werewolves or zombies?
What are your favourite pizza toppings?
Do you like tattoos? Why?
How will your favourite fictional character describe you using only 3 words?
Do you prefer to read hardcopy versions of books or read them on a e-reader like a Kindle?
Which superpower do you not want to have?
If you became famous, what would you be known for?
What is your best trait?
If you can only listen to one album for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?
Discuss what the most awesome thing to happen to you today.

Disney/Non-Disney Questions (Strictly Animated- you’re about to see how sad I am when it comes to animated films)
1. Scene you wish you could live out? Ooooh I love the idea of seeing Atlantica in person so probably the first scene of the Little Mermaid where all the mermaids are swimming into the castle.
 2. Do you prefer CGI or Hand/Cell Animation? HAND/CELL ALL THE WAY!!! There is just... an endearing quality to the original hand/cell animation style of movies that I adore. It has a personality. Plus, the contrast of the painted background and the hand-drawn characters is so wonderfully nostalgic and captivating. Furthermore, hand/cell animations takes a tremendous amount of work in comparison to CGI which, whilst I understand why Disney does it CGI now because of it, it makes me feel like I’m watching something with more heart in it because of all the time, sweat and soul that went into it. I could honestly go on and on about hand/cell animation but I shall leave it there. Yes. Hand/Cell Animation will always be my preference.
 3. Which fairytale would you like to see animated next? Hans Christian Anderson’s The Wild Swans immediately springs to mind.
 4. Favourite voice actress? I’m terribly torn between Jodi Benson and Liz Callaway. I just... I can’t choose! I mean, Jodi Benson was singing/voice acting for both Thumbelina and Ariel (two of my favs). And then Liz Callaway singing/voice acting for Odette, and then singing for both Anastasia and Kiara. How do I choose?!?!?!
  5. Favourite voice actor? Has to be John Cusack for me, Dimitri’s voice in Anastasia just melts me and I could listen to it all day. An extremely close second is Gary Imhoff who voiced Prince Cornelius but Dimitri’s voice just gets to me whenever I hear it.
 6. Favourite first meeting scene? I want to say Ariel and Eric but it’s hard to say which one counts as their first official meeting... so, I’ll say Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, that whole scene is just pure gold.
 7. Mention one Disney related thing that can always cheer you up, no matter how sad you are (scene, song, character, movie etc.): The song “Why Should I Worry” from Oliver and Company never fails to make me smile. Such a classic catchy song.
 8. Mention one Non-Disney related thing that can always cheer you up, no matter how sad you are (scene, song, character, movie etc.): Batty from FernGully: The Last Rainforest is easily my answer for this one, every time he’s on screen, my depression fades away for a while.
 9. Which scene/s always makes you cry? Oh man, I’m a big cry baby when it comes to movies so I have a few but I’ll name my main ones. Like the ones where I really ball like an idiot.
- Fox and the Hound: when Widow Tweed takes Tod into the woods.
- Thumbelina: a few scenes honestly- when Thumbelina wishes she were big and felt all alone in the world, when Thumbelina is told that Cornelius is dead and when Thumbelina and Cornelius finally find each other.
- Dumbo: when Dumbo finds his mother and cuddles her before he has to leave her again. That entire scene kills me.
- Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron: when Rains gets shot.
- TInkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast: when the fairies take Gruff into his cave to go into hibernation for a thousand years (I am not joking one bit when I say that I cried at this for half an hour solid).
- Anastasia: when the Empress and Anya realise that they are indeed family
- Lion King: you know the fucking scene...
 10. Favourite Duet (romantic in particular)? It’s an absolute tie between Let Me Be Your Wings sung by Thumbelina and Prince Cornelius, and Far Longer Than Forever sung by Derek and Odette. Whilst there are many great Disney duets, none quite do it for me as much as these two. In my personal opinion, these two perfectly define what a duet should be. They all harmonise beautifully with the other, they use different pronouns sung together, they each have their own part as well as singing together, the lyrics are exquisite... I honestly am such a fan of these songs. If you’re curious, a second place option to this would be If I Never Knew You from Pocahontas (both the pop version and the original version that was cut from the first version of the movie).
11. A couple you wish had sung a duet together? Ariel and Eric. Whilst they did sing together very briefly in Little Mermaid 2, they never got an official duet. I mean, I know Eric didn’t sing at all in the first one but I don’t know... I would have loved to have them sing together.
 12. An underrated duet? I mean, my favourite duets are honestly very underrated, but I’ve already mentioned them. So… I feel like Looking Through Your Eyes sung by Kayley and Garrett is extremely underrated as everyone thinks of The Prayer when they think of Quest for Camelot.
 13. Name your top three Disney princes/male protagonists: Prince Eric, Flynn Rider aaaaaaand Kovu.
 14. Name your top three Disney princesses/female protagonists: Snow White, Ariel and Pocahontas.
 15. Name your top three Non-Disney male protagonists: Oh that is fucking easy for me- Prince Cornelius, Dimitri and Derek (Pips from FernGully almost made the cut).
16: Name your top three Non-Disney female protagonists: Anastasia, Thumbelina and Odette (I absolutely adore Crysta but I just couldn’t not include one of the other three… choosing three is so limiting).
 17. Favourite sidekick/s? Bartok (Rasputin’s sidekick, I kill myself laughing at his lines), Baymax (Hiro’s sidekick) and Meeko (Pocahontas’ sidekick)
 18. Favourite villain/s? Beetle (Thumbelina- he makes me laugh so much), Scar (Lion King), Zira (Lion King 2- she’s such an underrate villain, she is just so set on revenge) and Rasputin (Anastasia).
 19. If you were to marry a female/male protagonist, who would you choose? Before, my answer would have been Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid, but now my answer would be undeniably Prince Cornelius. And here is why. When it comes to Thumbelina, nothing is more important. He literally endeavours the harshness of autumn and winter to find her when she’s been kidnapped, and he never stops for one second. The only way he was stopped was when he was forced into water by the wind and was frozen alive. And even, as soon as he’s been melted free, he immediately goes to find her and fight for her. Like, you have to admire that utter devotion and dedication. And when he is with Thumbelina, he takes care of her in every way possible. If you watch him during their duet Let Me Be Your Wings, you’ll see that he always makes sure to have a hold of her when they’re flying. Like when Thumbelina bends down to run her fingers through the water, he has his arm around her waist to hoist her. He lifts her onto the boat where the Toad lives. He catches her when she falls (yes I know that’s a meme where he sings that he’ll never let her fall and then she does but the whole point of that damn part is that, when she does fall, she falls with no fear because Cornelius catches her the next second). He’s so attentive with her and the way he loves her name is just so cute. Also, I really love how he made sure Thumbelina’s mother was looked after by Hero the dog. He is so kind, heroic, skilful and loving. But then he is also funny, cocky (in the nice way), sarcastic, a cutely clumsy sometimes, and has a slight rebellious streak that is so god damn attractive. I mean, he loves flying and literally misses royal events and princely duties to fly around the world. Plus, he literally flies on his bumblebee, Buzzbee, like a motorbike, if that ain’t a badass fairy, I don’t’ know what is. You definitely can’t say he’s boring at all. Okay, that’s covering his personality kinda. Going into physical traits, he is of course extremely handsome. I have always been a sucker for red hair (and now my best friend thinks he is the original reason why). Green eyes… I mean, come on. A damn heart-melting smile and smirk. His speaking voice is as wonderful as his singing, including a hypnotising soft-spoken voice when he gets close with Thumbelina. He’s great with a sword. He shows that he’s good at dancing. And if I got anything from that last five minutes, it’s that he looks like he’s a great kisser. Like the passion in that kiss (for an animation too) is something I’ve never forgotten. He’s not overly muscular but has muscles for sure, but it’s in a slender form. And… you know… he’s a fairy. A fairy prince! I realise I really got into this answer but I really do feel like Prince Cornelius gets overlooked and… ugh, I just love him.
 20.  A song you love from that isn’t sung by the characters? Baby Mine from Dumbo.
 21. An underrated song? A Dream Worth Keeping by Sheana Easton from FernGully.
 22. An underrated ballad? Where Do I Go From Here sung by Pocahontas in Pocahontas 2.
 23. If you could be friends with a Disney character, who you would you choose? Mushu would be amazing, I’d forever be entertained.
 24. Favourite friendship? Robin Hood and Little John.
 25. Favourite villain song? In The Dark Of The Night sung by Rasputin in Anastasia. Other contenders are No More Mr Nice guy sung by Rothbart in The Swan Princess, My Lullaby sung by Zira in Lion King 2 and… of course… Be Prepared sung by Scar in Lion King.
 26. Three songs you can’t help but jig to? You’re Beautiful Baby from Thumbelina, Why Should I Worry from Oliver and Company, and Friend Like Me from Aladdin.
 27. Favourite Disney Reprise? Has to be Mother Knows Best Reprise, it’s leaps and bounds ahead of Mother Knows Best.
 28. Spell you name with character names/movies:
Ratatouille
Eric
Baloo
Esmerelda
Cornelius
Crysta
Anastasia
 Jim Hawkins
Ariel
Nala
Eeyore
 Robin Hood
Iago
Gaston
Bambi
Yzma
 29. How often do you watch an animated movie? At least twice a week. I’m legitimately watching Thumbelna as we type this and it’s the fifth time I’ve watched it in the last week and a half. Besides Horror, Disney/Non-Disney is my favourite film genre.
 30. What animated movies have taught you? To always believe in magic, to be kind even when no-one else is, and that there is nothing wrong with loving animated movies as an adult, animation is for everyone.
BONUS Q: 31. An animated movie that everyone needs to go and watch right now: Hunchback of Notre Dame, I’ll guarantee that you haven’t seen it in a long time and you are missing out one of Alan Menken’s greatest achievements in his musical career and beautiful story with a powerful message.

entirely unasked for, read books 2017, first half.
Unter der Sonne (Daniel Kehlmann, 1998/2008): Daniel Kehlmann is, for now, my favourite germanspeaking writer (style-wise, no worries Fritz) and I started the year with reading some of his early works I hadn’t read yet. Unter der Sonne is a collection of short stories and as almost all of Kehlmanns narrations they are always very real but shifting into a dream, or it feels like it at least, always on the verge of a nightmare. one could call it surreal realism? or very real surrealism? it’s very hard to put into words but oh boy, I just love it so much. so I have already read Ruhm (Fame), a later collection of short stories and I liked the overall compilation of those more, especially because the stories were slightly linked to each other. But still Unter der Sonne was brilliant as ever! / English title: this has not been translated I think?
Der Verbrecher aus verlorener Ehre (Friedrich Schiller, 1786): this was… quite wild to say the least. / English title: The Criminal of Lost Honour
Du hättest gehen sollen (Daniel Kehlmann, 2016): I love this little novel. It’s definitely one of my favourites by Daniel Kehlmann. And i really need to reread it! The mathematics mysticism is strong in this one. Das Geodreieck! / English title: You should have left
Maria Stuart (Friedrich Schiller, 1800): i feel terrible but the best thing about this book, which i bought at the flea market, is still that it came with a self made book mark -a ladie’s leg in a pantyhose and a very fancy high heeled shoe, probably cut out from a magazine and strengthend with adhesive tape- which must be, judging by the look of it, at least 60 years old, if not older (the book is from 1939). but apart from that, I also liked the play itself! but it has already been several months and to say anything specific about it now I would have to ask Evelyn Hamann to give a short recap of the bisher gesendeten Folgen. “Auf dem Landsitz Fortheringhay…”
Die Wahlverwandschaften (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, 1809): i was meaning forever to read this and it was so beautiful, and sad! :( not even to speak of the quite obvious Schiller parallels. :(( and also, if you ever decide to read Die Wahlverwandschaften, please do so while listening to Die Ballade von Wolfgang und Brigitte by Wir sind Helden! / English title:  Elective Affinities
Beerholms Vorstellung (Daniel Kehlmann, 1997): this was Daniel Kehlmann’s first novel and ironically the last left that I hadn’t read. Compared to later works it maybe wasn’t as strong and the style not as developped but still very, very good. It’s about a magician, that is illusionist, who isn’t satisfied with his own skills because he himself still is aware that it’s all just tricks and illusion and thus tries to master his tricks so perfectly and blindly that he can become oblivious to the procedure in order to become a Real Magician and in the progress partially loses grip of reality. I mean… that idea alone is fascinating.
Cornelia Goethe (Sigrid Damm, 1992): Sigrid Damm deserves a medal for writing honest, inspiring and heartwrenching biographies about people (esp. women) we know so very little about!
Heinrich von Kleist (Dora Wentscher, 1956): this was a true lucky find at the flea market, I am still amazed. Oh Berndi!
Wallensteins Lager (Friedrich Schiller, 1798): this is merely a prologue to the other two parts of the Wallenstein triology so i really need to go on reading the other two (main) parts. / English title: Wallenstein’s Camp
Sprachwandel (Rudi Keller, 1990): How and that language changes is something that amazes me to no ends and I have been musing about that subject for years now but I have never actually read anything about it by someone who actually knows what they’re talking about. So it was amazing and interesting and I am (still) so thrilled by this. Language is like the most amazing yet inapprehensible thing ever?! / English title: On Language Change
Maurice (E. M. Forster, 1914/1971): this book stole my heart all over again after having seen the film already some years ago. like seriously, I am internally crying tears of joy ever since. please read this! it will not diasappoint, and Christopher Isherwood himself was a fanboy okay?
Goodbye to Berlin (Christopher Isherwood, 1939): talking of the devil-this book is amazing! it’s like a mosaicy glimpse into pre-nazi Berlin, or rather Berlin right before turning and already turning into nazi Berlin. despite all, this book made me want to be there myself with all these people.
Die Physiker (Friedrich Dürrenmatt, 1962): that was a weird and funny one. and not at all what I expected. I had always heard that even people who had to read it in school had liked it but apart from that knew nothing about it. / English title: The Physicists
Christopher and his kind (Christopher Isherwood, 1976): this is the non-fiction version of Christopher Isherwoods time in Berlin with its gay community. mainly, he is on the run from the nazis with his boyfriend Heinz. very sad and also a bit wild.
Winnie-the-Pooh (A. A. Milne, 1926): I might be identifying with Eeyore A Little Too Much. But really what a cute and clever book! (It made me think in Capitalised Expressions for days.)
The Importance of being Earnest (Oscar Wilde, 1895): i don’t know why i waited so long to read Oscar Wilde but omg, that was hilarious and amazing!!
Mr Norris Changes Trains (Christopher Isherwood, 1935): i didn’t enjoy this as much as Goodbye to Berlin and Christopher and his Kind, the entire story is somewhat sinister and the characters not really likeable somehow? but then I also read that Isherwood himself didn’t like it before i even started reading so I think I was also a bit biased. but it’s also very interesting to see how his style developped in contrast to the masterpiece I think Goodbye to Berlin is
Relato de un náufrago (Gabriel García Márquez, 1970): earlier this year I started reading Cien Años de Soledad (100 Years of Solitude) by García Márquez but stopped half way through because it confused the hell out of me and I somehow didn’t connect to the characters at all. I don’t know if it was for the Spanish or simply for the sheer amount of characters -of which half have the same name?!- and the large time span the novel is narrated on? anyway I wanted to give García Márquez another chance and picked something lighter, shorter and with less people - only one to be precise! And I enjoyed it very much! / English title: The Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor
Schillers Schwester Christophine (Annette Seemann, 2009): Christophine (Fene) was two years older than her little brother Fritz and since they both were much older than their younger siblings they were an inseparable duo in their childhood days. It is also said that Christophine’s character was a model for a lot, if not most, of Schiller’s female heroines. But as biographies about women in history go they can be a tough thing and this one makes no exception - to the point where it becomes almost unbearable! I got teary eyed reading this in the subway; but then I also might be caring about the Schillers A Little Too Much. / I highly doubt this has been transated.
Progress in Sign Language Research (Schulmeister/Reinitzer, 2002): blame (that is thank) Fargo and Russel Harvard that I suddenly became aware of how there’s an entire different set of languages to learn and learn about! The craziest thing was that while I was reading this very book (at work, sometimes there’s just not that much to do) an actual Deaf Person came to the cinema and asked if we were showing movies with english subtitles (which we don’t). That is he came up to me and said “deaf” and gestured writing in his hand and I then handed him a notepad on which we had our conversation. But everything happened so fast and there was another costumer waiting, and I was so taken aback, (I misspelled english as englisch how awkward!) but I had that book literally laying there next to me on the counter. I still wish I could have showed him. :/ I also regret not having been able to look up some cinemas for him that show movies with english subtitles. I hope he found one anyway!
A Room with a View (E. M. Forster, 1908): so after Maurice I wanted to read more by Forster and he did not disappoint! i had a lot of other stuff on my mind while reading this so it lost me a bit in the middle but totally got my attention back towards the end and i’m definitely going to reread this some day. and I simply cannot believe how wonderfully fantastical the Emersons are! although i’m yet to read Walden I am already contemplating putting “mistrust all enterprises that require new clothes” on my wardrobe as well-what a thing to do lmao! naturally I immediately watched the film after finishing the book and it was also nice seeing the entire Maurice cast again, only in different roles, haha!
books on my reading list for the second half of 2017:
Hundraårigen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann (Jonas Jonasson, 2009)
A Single Man (Christopher Isherwood, 1964)
Die Leiden des jungen Werther (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe,1774)

Last time, I shared my tales from Celebration and Disney Springs (you can read that post HERE), today I want to spread a little fairy dust and invite you to visit Cinderella’s castle as we head to Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
Yes, this is the portion of my trip that was full on Brit-Abroad-Disney-Tastic! Today’s outing was extra special as it was also my cousin’s birthday. After retrieving Becky’s ‘It’s My Birthday’ and my ‘1st Visit’ badges, we were ready to go.
Animal Kingdom was already buzzing when we arrived, swarming with excited children and steadfast park regulars looking to enjoy a day in the Florida sunshine. We rushed off to our first point of call which was the Safari. The queue was averaging at a fifty-minute wait but as we talked, laughed, and jumped into any shade we could find it went reasonably quickly. We finally boarded our rickety windowless wagon and were jostled off onto the trail on the hunt for the park’s inhabitants. We were lucky as all the animals made an appearance for us, from the water wallowing hippos to the king of the jungle. Despite the 92 degrees heat, it seems no-one was camera shy.
Once we disembarked from the Safari bus, we made our way across the park to a brand new attraction. Pandora is based on the world building from the film Avatar and has two new rides and a stunning Valley of Mo’ara setting. It was the middle of the day when we visited, but if you were to pop along at night, then you’d see all the foliage glowing just like in the movie. I have no idea how they made the hanging mountains, but they looked incredible.
From Pandora, we moved to The Pride Lands to watch the Lion King show which was absolutely stunning. The singers were hugely talented, and there was plenty of audience participation involved, so I got to warble out a few Hakuna Matata’s before the end.
Leaving the wild life behind us, we headed off to the second park of the day, Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
I’ve seen thousands of photographs and videos from Disney World, but standing on Main Street in front of the iconic castle is mind blowing and needs to be experienced to understand the magic of it fully. It’s also true that Disney isn’t only for the kids. I was totally spellbound by everything I saw, and although I was wilting under the midday sun, I couldn’t resist waving and yelling to Tinkerbell, Ariel, and Mickey Mouse as the parade rolled past us.
The park was bustling and so the wait times for many of the rides were high. However, this didn’t stop us from joining in. Obviously, I had to pay a visit to Adventureland, home of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and the Tortuga Inn. Johnny Depp didn’t pay us a visit this time, but that didn’t stop me studying anyone in a hat – just in case!
My favourite part of the day had to be going on Splash Mountain in Frontierland. I’m a huge fan of the log flume, and as the temperature soared, it seemed like a great idea to jump on a water ride. I now believe that the phrase ‘soaked to the skin’ came about after being on Splash Mountain. I haven’t laughed that hard in years.
As it was Becky’s birthday, it seemed quite fitting to stop for an early dinner to celebrate. So, we headed to Crystal Palace, home of the character dining experience. The food was exceptional with a varied choice for both adults and kids (although the kids’ sticky ribs were way better than the adult chicken legs!) The meal is a buffet where you can go back as many times as you like (eek!) with table service for drinks and birthday buns! As you sit in the open plan conservatory, you are joined by the characters from the hundred acre wood. We got to snuggle with Eeyore, Piglet, and Pooh but we had to watch Tigger as he was a bit frisky!
As the day drew to a close, we made our way back to Main Street in time for the fireworks at 9 pm. This is something they do every single night, and it is worth staying to witness. The firework displays were incredible, but there was also the bonus of a new feature. The fireworks are now coordinated with a projected show onto the Disney Castle. It gave me goose bumps to watch the show and see the awestruck faces of the children around me. It all ends with Tinkerbell whooshing from the highest turret in a blaze of fairy dust (via a zip wire I was informed!).
Once the show is over, you get caught up in the swell of thousands of people as they exit the park. It was incredible to see so many people in one place, but the thing I loved the most was the fact everyone was smiling!
A busy day but full of magic, laughter, and fun. Whether you’ve got kids or not, Magic Kingdom is worth a visit.
Next time, I’ll be sharing the next leg of our tour when we flew up to Arkansas.
I hope you’ve enjoyed part II of the Magical Mystery Tour.

Would you like to be a fly on the wall, observing someone else’s life? No, not really. Would you be interested in building a water feature for a garden? I’m not a gardener, I don’t even have a garden, and I’m no builder of things. I’d have no idea how to even go about that, nor do I have any interest to. I’d just have no need for that. Do friends come to you for ideas for things like haircuts? They have before, yeah. Just like asking if I think a certain color or style would look good on them and such. Do you know anybody, who’s gone to university at the age of 16? My cousin graduated high school at 16 and went to community college.  Does your keyboard have a wrist rest? No.
Do you have plants in your house? If so, what kind/s? Nope. Do you consider the letter Y a consonant or a vowel? It can be both, just depends on placement.  When you’re really thirsty, do you go for still water or sparkling water? Just regular water. If you carry a water bottle, do you reuse the same one or buy a new one? I don’t use one. If you wear them, what are your loudest pair of earrings? I haven’t worn earrings in years, but all mine are just simple little hoops or studs. Would you rather wear a tie or a bowtie? Neither. How many birds can you name just by looking at them? Uh, maybe 3 ha. I’m no bird expert. Which birds are most common around your neighbourhood? They’re all referred to as birds to me lol not a specific type. When’s the last time you had a pot luck? My friend had one about 3 years ago that I attended. If you don’t understand a reference in something, do you look it up? Yeah, usually. Are you the kind of person to look at accident sites, when passing them by? Yeah I guess. Do you ever see candles burning by the road side? I have before. And other things left there like flowers, balloons, and cards. Did you ever make dolls or hand puppets in primary/elementary school? Yeah. Aren’t baby chicks adorable? They are pretty cute. Have you ever seen a polydactyl cat? Possibly. I may have and just didn’t notice. I don’t encounter a lot of cats, though. Do you find Polish folklore interesting? If so, what are some of your favourite aspects of it? I don’t think I’m familiar with any of it. Have you ever been interested in the Middle Ages at all? Not especially.  Are there any languages you could try to work out what some words mean? Yeah, I’ve been able to do that sometimes. When you were little, what sorts of make belief did you play? My cousins and I loved played house and school. Anytime we’d play, we’d come up with names for who we were pretending to be, what they were wearing and looked like, and names for their friends, too.  Has a friend’s parent ever given you a present just because? I don’t think just because, but I’ve been given birthday and Christmas gifts from friends’ parents in the past. What do you do with clothes you can’t wear anymore? Donate them. What is something you’re very particular about? A few things, one being my food.  What is your dearest stuffed animal that you own? Why is that? All my giraffe stuffed animals. Have you ever had to try to pronounce words that have letters with umlauts? Yeah. Are you more an Eeyore, a Piglet or a Tigger? I definitely relate to Eeyore and Piglet. Name something awesome from another culture that is not part of yours: Hmm. Do you have an appliance running right now? If so, which one? I have 3 fans going on in my room, my TV is on, I’m using my laptop, and I’m watching a video on my phone.  What makes you wary about a person? If they’re acting sketchy, rude, or just give off bad vibes. Do planes fly over your area often? Not really. When at a Chinese or Japanese restaurant, do you use chopsticks? No. How do you break your routine when you feel like you’re stuck in a rut? My life is very routine, it works for me and I generally like it, but I also feel like I’m in a rut. It’s weird.  If you could, would you enhance your body with technology? What do you mean, exactly? If you would, what would you have done? It would be cool if there was some non-surgical procedure option for a few different things I’m dealing with and just a way to have a better functioning body and mind. What are you grateful for NOT having? I’m very, very grateful and fortunate to have the family I have. I have loving, supportive, caring parents and a very close relationship with my mom. I know not everyone has that, I’ve had a lot of friends that came from families that weren’t like that and they had a lot of drama with their family.  What’s something you can’t wait for about growing old? I don’t want to grow old. How do you expect your life to go like? How are you ensuring that? I can’t expect it to go any way.  I can hope and try and work towards things, but as we all know, life doesn’t always go how you’d like it to. It doesn’t follow your script or play by your rules. I definitely didn’t expect my life to end up like this, but here we are. I can also admit that I’m not actively doing anything to try and work on some things either. It’s just a mess. Or do you just wing it as you go?  Gah, this is complicated. I was always a planner and I have my routines. However, over the past few years due to health stuff, physical and mental, and I just  have given up in a lot of ways. I’ve neglected life, my friends, and myself. I just don’t have the energy, motivation, or drive anymore. Like I said, I’m not actively working towards anything right now. So, in that sense it probably looks like I’m just “winging it” because I don’t have any plans or goals right now. I really just take things day by day.
What’s a yard game that you still enjoy playing as an adult? What would be a yard game? But I’m gonna say no because I don’t enjoy being outdoors and I don’t play any games outdoors? Are yard games things like tag or something? I definitely don’t play stuff like that anymore. The only games I like are board games and some video games.  What do you think is the most interesting sea creature? I’m not into sea life. The ocean and sea creatures freak me out, honestly. I love the ocean from a save distance, but close enough to enjoy watching/listening to the waves crash in and out and feel the cool ocean breeze, but I have no desire at all to get into the ocean. How do you reset your head to zero, so to speak? My mind doesn’t work that way. Have you ever gone exploring an abandoned building? No. I watch this YouTuber who does stuff like that, though, and it’s interesting. What’s for dinner today? I think we’re doing Wingstop. Are there any foreign television shows you enjoy watching? No.

May Books
I went hard with books this month! 12 books read, 9 of which were audiobooks. Send me audiobook recommendations! I have 2.5-3 hours of driving to do every day.
The Perfect Girlfriend by Karen Hamilton (A) ⭐⭐⭐
It was okay - I was less interested in the progression of Juliet’s POA and more interested in the setting/situation since I’ve never read a book that took place in the world of flight attendants/airline employees. I liked the jet-setting to various cities and British narrator. The pacing of the novel was good, and I’d recommend it to readers who like domestic mysteries/thrillers.
Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging by Sebastian Junger  ⭐⭐
I didn’t really like this book for a few reasons but luckily it was short.
A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I thought this was a very entertaining book. Bryson didn’t take himself too seriously and his descriptions of hapless (mis)adventures on the AT did make me chuckle more than once.
Boy, Snow, Bird by Helen Oyeyemi (A) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I had a hold on this book from the library and when it was checked out to me, I forgot what it was about. I listened to the first hour with no idea it was a Snow White retelling, and as I continued, I still didn’t really see how it was a Snow White retelling. The novel is original and unique and beautifully written. It made me feel things.
Natural Causes: An Epidemic of Wellness, the Certainty of Dying, and Killing Ourselves to Live Longer by Barbara Ehrenreich (A) ⭐⭐⭐
I liked this book a lot! It reminded me of both Mary Roach and Rose George. More books about social histories and life sciences written by witty ladies, please!
Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
One of my favourite books from my childhood and in re-reading, it totally holds up <3 In fact, there’s some humour in there that I didn’t fully appreciate as a child - not inappropriate, but let’s call it slightly more ‘intellectual’- which makes me love Winnie the Pooh even more. As a kid I really identified with Owl because he was so smart but as an adult I’ve realized I’m definitely an affectionate mix between Eeyore and Pooh I’m a depressed dumbass.
Tranny: Confessions of Punk Rock’s Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout by Laura Jane Grace (A) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
My first introduction to Against Me! Was through the song True Trans Soul Rebel which is a bop that’s stayed in my head through listening to this audiobook. I found the writing really well-done, and it reminded me to continue to keep my own journals, like Laura did throughout her life, because I want to one day be a successful author and write a memoir about my life look back on what I wrote during this time in my life.
GuRu by RuPaul (A) ⭐⭐⭐
Would have probably given this book 4 stars if the audiobook version included the photos in the ebook and print edition as supplementary material. I didn’t know what to expect after renting it from the library (after seeing Ru shamelessly plug it during Drag Race) but was pleasantly surprised by the spiritual wisdom the book offered - and it was short, and sweet. The next day I even wore makeup to work so how’s that for #glamour
Wear Your Dreams: My Life in Tattoos by Ed Hardy (A) ⭐⭐
DNF with an hour left. I liked reading about his time in Japan especially. The writing just wasn’t super engaging to me. I originally chose to read this because I like tattoos as an artform but maybe the history of American tattooing in the 60s and 70s wasn’t quite doing it for me. There was also a lot of name dropping which I didn’t have the existing knowledge to appreciate.
The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle (A) ⭐⭐
Eh, this was an OK book. I think the author takes himself too seriously and speaks very condescendingly as he answers the questions of his students. I thought the first half was pretty good but towards the end, his focus on heteronormative relationships (as in, a woman is incomplete without a man and man and woman are two halves of the same whole and a gay person is more likely to reach enlightenment because they have to navigate unique challenges) just didn’t sit well with me. I also skipped listening to the part about PMS because idgaf how ‘enlightened’ someone is, I don’t care what a man has to say about a woman’s reproductive cycle.
The Untethered Soul at Work: Teachings to Transform Your Work Life by Michael A. Singer (A) ⭐⭐⭐
I enjoyed this book much more than the previous ‘guide to spiritual enlightenment’. I’ve read Singer’s book “The Untethered Soul” and what really stuck with me was the idea of residing in the role of the Observer of your consciousness and being present and it’s something I’m still trying to keep in mind throughout my daily life. I find my work/career to be both professionally and personally fulfilling right now so I’m trying to enjoy myself. Infusing a mindfulness in my daily life will only improve my work, too, so this was a good read to enjoy on my commute.
The Whale: In Search of the Giants of the Sea by Philip Hoare (A) ⭐⭐⭐
This book was less about Whales as a species and more about the (sexual undertones) of the whaling industry in the 1800s. Good as a literary criticism of Moby Dick, less good if you wanted a scientific text about whales. I thought it was well written and researched, and the author knew what he was talking about but if I had known what I was getting into I might have thought twice about picking it up.
