HELLO welcome to the Babbit's Blog masterpost!!! On this post you'll find some fun facts about yours allegedly (me <33), some ref's for my different 'sona's, and a couple links to my fics and whatnot! Are you ready? No?? Excellent neither am i let's do this

Meet the Babbits!: the self-inserts/personas

the first ref is for my general/most commonly used persona, Babbit! They aren't really an anthro/furry as much as they are a humanoid with the head of a rabbit. I like to think of this one as the 'me' that's in my head- the purest form of my thoughts and feelings, but not the solid real-life me. The second ref is my self-insert persona, Rabbit, the one i picture using most often when i'm reading a fic or imagining a self-insert scenario lol. This one is like the me that people see and meet and speak to in real actual life, if that makes sense. It's the way I come across to people and all of the things I wish I could iron out of my crumpled up real-self <3 The third is a much more specific 'sona, Hazel, who started off as a FNaF:SB animatronic self-insert. She does have a backstory and lore now, which i think makes her more of an OC than a self-insert, but a lot of her is still me and a lot of what she experiences in her backstory is from my life/instills the same feelings that were taken away from things that happened to me, so I think she kinda counts enough to put a ref for her here sdkjfsdhfj (Why the different names?: makes things a little easier, and they hold meaning to me symbolically, I guess!)

Content!: Here's a short list of my various fics that will get updated as I create more! (it was, in reality, not fine.): FNaF Sun/Moon x Reader fanfic, gender neutral, for general audiences, fluff-fest, idiots to lovers "You're the new tech/repairman at the Fazbear Mega Pizzaplex, unfortunately. Your first task? To make the Daycare Attendant into two separate animatronics. It's an amazing opportunity, really, and there is nothing you love more than getting a chance to really work with such tech! The only bad part is that you don't know how to tell anyone that you just might be in over your head. (You are extremely in over your head.)" After Everything Was Fixed (but you were still broken): AU FNaF Sun/Moon x (Animatronic) Reader, gender neutral, read with caution, angst, harm to sentient robots, traumatized main character, hurt/comfort slow burn, romance slow burn "The virus was gone. Everyone was fixed. You had been put back together. It's a time for a new beginning, to do things right this time, to wash away the past and paint a better future. Their memories of the infection had- mercifully- been taken away from them. Yours had not. He doesn't understand why you try to avoid him. Even if you could tell him, you're not sure you would. You want to be his friend, but it's difficult; every time you see him, you remember the hundreds of times he killed you." A fic where you are a repairman-themed STAFFbot, taking place post-virus. In the past, Moon, infected by the virus, took delight in attacking and dismantling the reader during the night. Now, in the present, you find yourself burdened by the memories of the past while everyone around you has no recollection of the events. It gets more complicated as Sun and Moon, both now cleared of the virus, grow curious of you. This fic will follow a series of arcs, presently on arc one. Whomst the hell?: HI I'm Rabbit! Or Bones! Or Babbit! Or Avarice/Ava, if you want to go for a more legitimate-sounding name. I'm 24 years old, prefer to use they/them pronouns, and so, so incredibly ace. I've been drawing as long as I've had the ability to hold a pen, writing since I was in grade school, and being a plague to the ones around me since the beginning of time! If you've seen my art, its probably from the absolute mountain of fluffy-wuffy love-dovey (y/n) x Sundrop/Moondrop/Eclipse doodles I've been sharing for several years now sdfjhsdj. Likes n Dislikes!: I'm a sucker for sap, fluff, and lots and lots of love-dovey bullshit! I also like stories about finding oneself and monsters being befriended or loved. I am full of random facts and anecdotes, especially weird or gross ones! sometimes i get on tangents that can go for actual hours so pls forgive that lol

the secret history fanfic

"One likes to think there's something in it, that old platitude amor vincit omnia. But if I've learned one thing in my short sad life, it is that that particular platitude is a lie. Love doesn't conquer everything. And whoever thinks it does is a fool."

I'm a fool. Richard was right. Love has the power to conquer many things, it makes the shy brave and the brave shy, but it cannot conquer death. I used to think Henry could not be conquered by neither love or death. I such was a fool.

Notes;

This story will be very self indulgent and maybe not for everyone🤭 I am aware that the characters of the book aren't meant to be romanticised and I'm also aware of all the elitist stuff and pretense that's portrayed in the book, but I still love it.🏛️🍂☕

No Bacchanal will take place in my story. The characters will still be messed up, but not guilty of murder. Richard will not be the narrator. Another mention, this is Henry centred🥹

Just read it for what it is I guess!

The title is basically "What once was" by Her's.

The secret history hit different for me when I read it -I've read it three times so far- because 1) I'm greek, live in Greece and speak greek 2) during high school I was basically studying ancient greek and latin non-stop 3) I am silly. I hope you'll like this attempt to insert a new character and change the plot. Obviously, this isn't even trying to compare to Donna Tart's exquisite talent, it's just fanfiction.

Next chapter will come out during summertime. That's just an introduction. I'm a bit insecure about writing something I aspire to be a bit more "serious", especially when it comes to my use of the English language, but it's fine I guess.

My OC, Rita, is definitely my shameless self insert. I didn't want to make her flawless. I also wanted to explore the contradiction between a real, almost bohemian in a way person to Henry's perfectionistic and almost non human at times personality. Rita is genuine, she is simple but in a complicated way. She shares the same passion of the ancient world with her classmates, but not in their flamboyant manner. In a way, it's her heritage, Plato and Homer and the twelve Gods of Olympus, but she embraces the fact in a grounded way, not in an obsessive one.

Just like the title is inspired by a song, so is Henry and Rita's backstory. The childhood I'll be referring to is inspired by Taylor Swift's song "seven". Childhood friends that get separated for years is the theme here.

Warnings; possibility of smut/nsfw content, mentions of childhood trauma, triggering themes in general, mentions of abandonment, physical injuries, mental issues, homophobic people from the 80s, some very cute moments that might be out of character for the gang, stereotypes that I don't resign with but are part of the plot, dark themes that might have to do with death etc.

holidays are my only opportunity to be unapologetically sappy on this blog , i think . . . . ( /j ) and since it’s going to be 2024 in like 20 minutes here in australia i wanted to get this out before it gets too late into the night hehe also ! i have a lot i want to say

( also comm showcase because i thought that'd be cute )

so it’s almost been a year since i properly ( there's no way to properly do it but you understand . . ) started self-shipping , i think ? and it's ( in all honesty ? ) helped me through much of the year i started this blog back in march i believe , but i consider our anniversary to be in may ( i thought it was august but a very silly girlie got dates mixed up with lore if you could believe ehe ; ) which . . is five months off but it still feels pretty close ! he’s become such an intrinsic and important part of my life now that it feels as if it’s always been this way i guess . i’ve said it before but his character is just so kind and gentle and caring but also he’s reminded be how lovely it is to actually romanticise life a little bit and how good it feels to embrace your passion/s i um . . i love him very much ? 🩵🥺

he’s such a genuine source of comfort and so very dear to my heart , and I truly think he’s going to be my love favourite forever and i can't wait to do more ship stuff in the coming year hehe ! i’ve been with this series for sixteen years now . because i'm old . ( /j ) it was such a huge staple of my childhood and maybe i’ll talk about it someday - i'd like to ! - because many of my dearest memories are centred around this franchise. perhaps this blog was always inevitable in that way , i like to joke about self shipping with him is like a long term membership bonus . . but either way , in a sense i feel so lucky i get to express my love for it in this way if that makes sense ?

marianne ( having been made this year ) is also important to me in a way that’s . . come to surprise me , honestly ? i haven’t had an ‘ oc ‘ in a very long while so perhaps i just forgot about how emotionally attached you can really become . it’s probably also no shock that despite being a self insert, she’s very personal to me . . as someone that admittedly struggles with quite a bit of negative self talk, being able to say i like these parts of myself that i implement into her character has been quite healing for me as well ! and being able to rediscover my love for collecting flowers and coffee was also something really fun to do ! to the person that designed her ( you know who you are hehe ) I’m so incredibly grateful you bought her to life. It truly does mean sm . . as well as to everyone that's drawn her of course hehe , im always so giddy to see my little beloveds drawn so prettyful !

i really can’t emphasise enough just how grateful i am for both the community and all of my really lovely moots. i’m rather quiet so i don’t talk a lot but the interactions i’ve had on here are soso special to me and i really do cherish them so much no matter how small . . i have so many fond memories this year of that alone and it makes me tearyy happy happy 2024 to you and your beloveds hehe - if you actually managed to sit through all this I’m actually spinning you around so so much you very lovely and sweet . I hope the new year is everything you want it to be ! sending you each and every one of my best wishes your waaay mwah mwah !

Katsuki and Kansatoki spar.

Kansatoki Hikari hero name Persuasion. Her quirk is the ability to sense others emotions and change them when making contact. She fights with a whip in order to get others close to her so she’s better able to touch and influence them.

Authors note: I usually do these at the end of my fics- however, I have a huge complex about this so I’m going to say this upfront. Sapphire requested this fic and after discussing with her about writing around what quirk the reader should have she encouraged me to write it with my OC instead. I’ve never written an OC into a story so I’m extremely excited and nervous to post this. I also still feel incredibly selfish for writing my OC instead of making this a self insert 🫣. I hope you enjoy the debut of Persuasion non the less~

Today's training exercises were to be just a simple spar between classmates. It had been a while since the class spared each other since first starting at UA. Everyone had made improvements since the start of the year. Some made major improvements in working on their special moves, while others made adjustments to their costumes or even added support items.

The class anxiously waited to hear who the first sparring match was going to be. Finally, Aizawa announced the spars were to be randomly paired and announced the first two classmates.

"Persuasion and Bakugo you will be the first spar. Everyone make your way to change into your hero costumes and meet at the gym," he announced.

The class began to shuffle, grabbing their costumes and leaving for the locker room to change.

"Hey, Hikari!" Mina exclaimed, catching up to her friend. "Are you nervous?" She asked.

"Nervous?" Kansatoki asked.

"Yeah! To spar with Bakugo. Everyone usually gets pretty messed up after going against him," She laughed.

"Oh- No he doesn't scare me. Besides I have some new stuff I've been training with so I'm excited to try it out." Kansatoki replied.

"Ooo really? I can't wait to see! I'll be rooting for you," Mina smiled.

"Thanks," Kansatoki smiled in return as the girls headed off to change.

The students slowly gathered in the gym and waited for the training to start. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood and excited to spar again with classmates except for Katsuki who impatiently waited for Kansatoki.

"It shouldn't take her so damn long to get into a hero costume," Katsuki grunted.

"Aw come on Bakugo, we're in no rush. Besides, I remember she said something about asking for a new costume. Probably takes some extra time getting used to," Eijiro said, trying to calm Katsuki.

"It still shouldn't take so damn long," Katsuki grumbled.

Eijiro laughed off his friend's irritation, "I get it, I'm anxious to start training too man. I'm actually excited to see her costume, she asked for pictures of my costume to use as a reference," Kirishima said.

"Hu- you sure about that?" Katsuki asked with a subtle pink tint arising on his face as he looked past Eijiro.

"Well okay, just pictures of my sleeves to use as a reference but yeah why?" Eijiro added.

"Because that costume doesn't look anything like yours," he said, motioning towards Kansatoki who had finally shown up to the gym.

Eijiro turned around to find Kansatoki and quickly turned back around after he did. Kansatoki's new costume was far more revealing than her previous one, almost to the same extent as Momo's.

"Oh-" Eijiro exclaimed, his face also tinted with a pink blush. "No, I suppose it doesn't. I guess it makes sense though, being that she has to touch someone to use her quirk."

Aizawa called for the class to get in order so the matches could begin.

"Good luck man, and don't be too rough on her, ok? Remember she's our friend." Eijiro said before he made his way with the rest of the class to watch.

"Whatever," Katsuki said as he left for the sparring area in the gym.

Kansatoki was waiting on one edge of the arena with a determined look on her face.

"You really think that new costume is going to help you? I don't care how much skin you show, you're still not going to be able to touch me," Katsuki called out.

"Well see about that. I've got a new support item too. I've got to say I'm kind of excited you're the first one I get to use it on," She grinned.

Katsuki opened his mouth to make another smart remark but was interrupted by Aizawa who lazily yelled "Start."

Kansatoki grabbed at her side, pulled out a whip, and cracked it against the floor.

The classmates watching in the stands erupted with commentary. Some supportive yells for Kasnatoki mixed with surprise at the debut of her new support item.

"That's the new support item she's been talking about training with?!?" Denki yelled in astonishment. "Is that even- allowed!?"

"Oh my god- Bakugo is a lucky bastard." Minoru mused beside him.

"Mineta you perv!" Mina said, slapping the back of his head. Then turned back to watch, "YOU GOT THIS PERSUASION!" she yelled.

"What kind of dominatrix crap is that?" Katsuki yelled lunging forward attempting to hit Kansatoki with a blast.

Kansatoki avoided it cartwheeling to the side then wrapped her whip around Katsuki's feet trying to bring him to the ground.

"What's the matter? You're not into it?" She said with a wink.

"Tch-" Katsuki let out an annoyed puff of air, as he let out another blast freeing him from the whip around his feet, and made his way into the air.

"Too afraid to get any closer?" Kansatoki yelled up at him.

"You're going to regret saying that!" Katsuki yelled at her with another blast from the air. This one was even stronger than the last. Kansatoki dodged again as the smoke from the blast filled the gym.

"How does that one saying go?" Kansatoki said as Katsuki frantically scanned through the smoke trying to find her. "Oh yeah missed me now you have to kiss me," She laughed as the smoke began to clear giving Katsuki a view of her again.

"Cut out that damn seductive crap," He yelled.

"Why is it distracting? "She asked, smirking at him. Katsuki attempted to hit her with another blast. This time giving Kansatoki exactly what she had been waiting for. Unlike the last two blasts, Katsuki used both hands this time allowing her to wrap her whip around both his arms at once.

She moved swiftly avoiding his blast while keeping her grasp on her whip tied around his arms. Using the smoke caused by the blast as cover once more she moved in closer, this time having some control of where Katsuki's next blast would go thanks to her whip.

Placing her leg in between his and behind his foot she pushed him back causing him to trip and fall onto the floor. Before he could let out another blast she straddled him and his wrapped-up arms. Restricting his arms to the point that if he let out a blast he'd be aiming at himself.

Katsuki struggled under her, enraged at himself for being caught. Curses and insults spewed out from him.

"What's the matter? Don't want to blow your own balls off?" She teased him.

"Shut the fuck up," He yelled angrily still trying to free himself.

"Why don't you just tell me what you want to feel?" Kansatoki said, struggling to keep him down. Her own arms were occupied with making sure he didn't escape.

Katsuki groaned and continued to fight a bit longer before accepting being unable to get out from under her. "Just put me to sleep already bitch-" He barked.

"How boring- of all the things I could make you feel that's what you chose? So be it I guess," She replied. Unable to touch Katsuki with her arms due to being occupied with keeping him pinned down, Kansatoki moved closer kissing Katsuki on the cheek. Instantly he stopped struggling under her and fell into a deep slumber.

"Oh crap- she won! Way to go Persuasion" Eijiro yelled.

"I WANT TO FIGHT HER NEXT!" Minoru yelled.

"Yeah something tells me she wouldn't use that move on you dude," Kamanari laughed.

Kansatoki moved off of Katsuki and touched his face gently, causing him to wake up.

"You know, you're kind of cute when you are asleep and not barking so loud," She said, teasing Katsuki.

"Tch- whatever enjoy it while it lasts. You're never beating me again, got it?" He grumbled.

"Mhm sure Bakugo," She said, rolling her eyes as the class moved closer to congratulate her.

"Whip me next please, my dominatrix queen," Minoru said.

"Not even in your goddamn dreams extra," Katsuki said blasting Minoru.

Kansatoki began to walk away with her classmates congratulating her when Katuski called out to her.

"Hey! We are sparing again tomorrow after class so you better be ready!" Katsuki yelled, causing Kansatoki to turn back to him.

"Oh, are we? That's a bit presumptuous. What if I'm busy," She said playfully.

"Yeah whatever, I'll see you tomorrow at seven in the gym," He said, ignoring her playfulness.

"I already told you Bakugo I might be busy, but I'll think about it," She said, winking at him before turning to leave.

Well. Okay.

Under the cut are a couple Team Fortress 2 OC's and a lot of yapping related to them. Nothing particularly interesting related to the main game and its epic cast, sowwy.

Some less-coherent doodles trying to figure out The guy that I'd imagine as the main- [embarrassed but accepting sigh] Self-insert for the game. This is Oleg! He's an obnoxiously superstitious/religious Russian on the run after taking part in several riots, stealing a bunch of gear from cops, and also The Goat Incident. Weird little man. Or, I guess, not little, he is pretty tall, and very much an adult, even though he has something of a baby face for some weird reason.

The man's mostly just kinda grimacing miserably most of the time - the job of a mercenary pays well, but it's the people he has to work with and fight against that make it rough on him. He's just so tired all the time, and anxious about everything, and just wants his Goddamn paycheck and to stay out of prison. He can still get pretty mean on the battlefield (both in terms of the average Domination line and in terms of how bloodthirsty he can get), but hey, which one of these people isn't.

I like to think he's sort of a complete third piece to the Doctor-Firefighter-Policeman trifecta. All based professions in theory, but the mercs mirroring these professions in practice are first of all insane, and apply their tools in the effectively opposite directions to their job descriptions. I've got more to say about him, but that's for if and when I make a proper reference image of him.

Initially, instead of drawing up a proper Tenth Class[tm], I just made a fourth category. For shits and giggles. You may or may not recognise these faces, and if you did, I'm flattered! ... Although I'm kinda spoiling their actual names in the tags anyway. Oops.

Behold! Servando, the Messenger (Mexican, previously a postman, an easygoing but irritable nerd emoji of a man), Reina The Bouncer (Japanese, previously a bouncer at a bar, a reserved but kind-hearted gentlewoman with definitely no ties to the Japanese mafia), and Aidan the Odd-Job (Irish, previously a handyman, a friendly if a bit gullible gentle giant).

They're all functionally civilians that were way too good at their jobs, and drank just enough lead-poisoned water to be more functional than the average Teufort resident, but still deranged enough to sign up for the Gravel Wars. They all just want to help end this once and for all, because the commotion was making their previously comfy-cozy domestic three-way married life a bit challenging.

⁺⋆✰ Steal Your Heart; An OT9 + Reader Insert AU Interactive Fanfiction Game

TLDR; In this new ZeroBaseOne interactive AU fanfiction game, the reader plays as the 10th member of a K-Pop group mistreated by their company and on a downward spiral. One day, there's a glitch in the matrix-- causing our reader to enter the "Metaverse", where they receive special superpowers through the birth of their true self in the form of a Persona. What if the members of ZeroBaseOne can band together as the Phantom Thieves to take down their company and save themselves from their fate?

An interactive game featuring hand-edited media, polls, and a points-system that gives the reader their own specially-tailored ending (will determine which love interest they end up with). Will be just as funny as it is angsty, I promise.

Would you like to start a new game?

Excellent! The story in question features the nine members of ZeroBaseOne (well, 10 actually; including you, dear Player!) and their journey both in the real world and the Metaverse to defeat a company that has taken advantage of them for years. But before we get too far into the plot, let me introduce myself. I'm Kara, aka jebewonmorelike and I'll be your Game Master. I'll check in with you at the beginning of every chapter to give you reminders, content warnings, and any miscellaneous info you might need.

I know! I can't take all the credit, though. This fanfiction game is heavily-inspired by the JRPG game Persona 5. What is Persona 5 about? Our story is, of course, about a group called ZeroBaseOne... Or, well... To be more precise, it's a story about a group that used to be called ZeroBaseOne. A little over a year ago, some sh*t went down and turned their whole world upside down forever.

While all ages and genders are welcome to play this game (our OC is pronoun-free!), there might be some mature themes in this game. Nothing too crazy-- swearing, mild violence, angst, drinking, crime, some suggestive themes, and, above all, bringing justice to a company that mistreats its talent...

Are you okay with a PG-13+ rated game, Player?

Great! And, don't worry: there will be plenty of comedy, too. Comedy, to me, is essential to any plot. I think you're gonna really like this game! I hope. *Sigh*

Aw... Thank you, Player. I appreciate the reassurance. I've been second-guessing my writing for months now and--... Oh, sorry, back to the description of the game!

Like I was saying, ZeroBaseOne doesn't really look much like the one we know in real life. Instead, the members are a bit older, a bit more worn out and, honestly, having a pretty rough go of it at this point. And whose to blame for that?

You're so smart, Player! Of course it's their company. I'd like to just state quickly that this game is just that-- a game. Fictional; a story! No agencies or people in this game are representative of real life things. Especially not their fictional company. *Bombastic side-eye*.

So why did I decide to make this game? Well, we all love reading fanfiction. But wouldn't it be even more fun if the reader had a say in the story? If the reader's choices led to the creation of their own specially-crafted fanfiction just for them?

Maybe, by now, you're wondering just what exactly are you playing this game to win? Well it's what almost everybody wants a shot at in life... Love. Throughout this game, you will make decisions that will give you points towards different group members. Keep track of your score and, at the end of the game, the member who you've earned the most points for will determine your ending (and your love interest).

All game resources will be listed in the description of each chapter, at the top and bottom of this introductory post, and on the Steal Your Heart masterlist. There will be many opportunities to interact with this game and it will include a lot of hand-edited graphics to look at it! I hope you enjoy them, as I've planned them quite tediously.

So I started thinking about the game on Asriel's computer, and now I can't stop thinking about the possibility of Asriel and/or Kris being the ones to create Undertale. I mean, if Gaster might have created Deltarune, why couldn't they have made Undertale?

I mean, its clearly supposed to be a reference to the Asriel fight, but I started questioning if there might be more to it, and here I am.

They way this has been piecing together in my brain, I see it as more Kris picking up what Asriel started and never finished some time after the events of Deltarune, with every intention of having it played by the same entity that controlled them.

All of the similarities between the games can easily be things that were based of their actual adventures and people from Hometown. What I'm interested in are the major differences.

- Most of the magic used by monsters could be based on what little magic they can use in the Light World, as well as magic used by both Lightners and Darkners in Dark Worlds.

- Frisk and Chara being so similar to Kris makes perfect sense if they were inspired by them. They both share a ton of traits with Kris, but Chara seems to have the most. Frisk is the player character based on their experience while under the player's control, and Chara is the self-insert that fills their role in the Dreemurr family, but is also one of two characters in the game who directly speak to you as the player.

- Gaster and all his mysteries could be based on whatever entity we've been assuming IS Gaster in Deltarune. They never fully found out what was going on there, but they knew putting in references to it would drive the curious players insane.

There's something about the idea of Kris creating Undertale because of the events with the player in Deltarune, only for most of us to find Deltarune in the first place because of Undertale.

The one major part of this theory is how Asriel is depicted in Undertale. I guess it could be explained as Asriel's edgy OC from when he was working on it getting reworked for the story, but that might be stretching it a bit.

Do I think any of this is even close to canon? Not for a second. Pure crack theory. But I can't stop thinking about it and it makes a concerning amount of sense. There are a bunch of other smaller things I can think of that could be looped in, but these are most of the main ones. I don't like how deeply this has infected my brain.

X: How would you categorize your fanfic reading? Are you a voracious reader? Do you carefully pick and choose? Something in between?

It depends on the fandom! I mostly read One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho these days, but in both cases I'm selective (in different ways).

For One Piece, I tend to filter by specific characters I'm interested in, mostly paired with reader-inserts or OCs. I'm thinking of dipping my toe into self-insert and transmigration fic. I've also read some interesting GEN fics about the canon cast. I don't ship anyone, so I've been avoiding canon/canon shipping stories for the most part.

I do not read Yu Yu Hakusho fanfiction anymore. It can be painful to see my headcanons or story beats reproduced without my consent and without thorough understanding of the thought that went into them, so it's just best I don't know what people are writing. Blessings upon all the writers still creating content for that fandom. You're amazing and we need you!

(And before anyone asks, yes, I've seen my very specific headcanons and story beats reproduced in others' works. Many times. I'm used to it, but that doesn't make it fun to see.)

I do miss reading YYH fic, admittedly, so if anyone has a glowing recommendation, I'll likely make an exception. So I guess update my classification to "highly selective!"

Name: For the sake of posting online I’ll call her Rose!

Color: #E7355B [the pink in the art]

Age: I guess she’d be 20 given when Milgram started huh. Gross.

Status: Milgram Staff, Machine Technician

Symbols/imagery: ballet, musical theater, potted plants, board games, various bugs

Song genre: very similar to Mahiru's, something upbeat and extra pop-y

Tentatively she's number 011? She's not really prisoner but she's also not free to come and go, so I'm not actually sure if she'd get a number

Story: I figured since the project is supposed to be realistic/present day, the mv machine would be brand new and unpredictable tech, so they’d want someone keeping up on maintenance and making sure the brain-invasive process won’t cause any harm to the prisoners. She was studying abroad in Japan working on some cool neuroscience tech (irl I know nothing about technology or brains but shh) and she stumbled upon the Milgram team’s machine/plans. Long story short she was dragged into the experiment to make sure things ran smoothly.

Writer's Reasoning: She’s really fun for me to play around with, as she allows me to work with a character who is simultaneously trapped in the prison but hasn’t committed any murder**, someone who has a tiny bit of pull over Es’ mindset in conversation but not the final decision (aka the voting system), and someone who would have a reason to see all the canon content.* I really enjoy the character interactions and dynamics Milgram has set up so far, so it’s been super fun seeing how things change for better and worse when someone not quite aligned with either Milgram/the prisoners is thrown into the mix!

*As much as I love dramatic irony in fiction, it would drive me crazy if I knew every detail of of the vds/mvs but Rose didn't – and every single Milgram character is The Worst Communicator Ever so I couldn’t justify that she’d hear it second hand from them...

**I’ll also add that I don’t believe I’m above murder lmao – the main thing stopping me from making her a prisoner was a) the reason above, and b) there’s no way I could have produced a full music video, and it would've driven me crazy if she didn't have one 😂 Still, I imagine she has to run some tests on the machine to make sure things are calibrated correctly, so she'd extract little things here and there (giving me the opportunity to think up lyric snippets and recurring symbols for her without worrying about full encompassing music videos :))

Story roles:

She’s a bit conflicted -- she’s officially Milgram staff and knows she should remain neutral on the prisoners, since she won’t be allowed to interfere with the process/executions. At the same time, her job description is literally “make sure they all are safe and healthy” and she's way too emotional to avoid getting hopelessly attached to everyone 😅

I really enjoy the theory that the machine extracts videos based off of priming, so one of Rose’s duties involves listening in on the interrogation and making sure there’s been enough material discussed/not too much time has passed overall (hence the ringing of the bell happening at different lengths for each vd). She then watches the mvs along with Es to make sure there are no machine glitches.

I'm not afraid to admit she falls into Mary Sue territory every so often by being everyone's friend, because it's less about "aw everyone likes her" and more about "canon is too painful rn and I need a fix-it tool to take care of these guys and give them hugs and tell them someone forgives them and cares about them and unfortunately these characters wouldn't let anyone less than a friend do that." Rest assured she's definitely not perfect and will fuck everything up on occasion :3

Miscellaneous: Whenever I play around with normal au ideas she's still working on the machine (but in a public, more ethical setting), and she's Mahiru's roommate :) Her character isn't super focused on love, but if I had to pick a cover song it'd be Stickybug II. It's very much my vibe, the lyrics fit well enough (better than most songs, at least lol) and it's one of my favorites of the unchosen songs!

So yeah, I hope she's not too boring without a cool crime to decipher, but I wanted to share since I was really proud of her! It took a bit of tinkering to find a way to fit her into a perfect secret-third-thing role that runs very smoothly with all of canon, so I was very excited!

I think that completely blank main characters that have the least number of preset traits or any preset personality at all are better for IFs in general bc it allows for us not only to self insert but also to envision other original characters completely different from us if we want to. But I understand it may be easier to write a character when you already have an image of how they behave.

Main characters with an already preset personality, attitude, and history make it feel more like a traditional book where we just witness the story presented and have no input or agency at all. I think freedom of choice over the main character is the most important part of any IF, because if you take away the choices, then what's the difference from a normal piece of literature? Preset MCs may also make it harder for us to connect and identify with them since their personalities can be completely different from ours if we're self inserting or if we envision something else for them, not to mention they can do and say things we don't expect, or agree with, or even account for, which could make some of us even upset at our own characters for doing something rude or completely different from what we intended or meant to.

Blank canvas main characters can be fun too, writing the MC being sweet or shy or bold or serious or comic or hostile, etc, in response to a given situation, or towards another character's flirting, for example, sounds extremely interesting to me, not to mention it's always the best part when we're kind and understanding to a character and they react accordingly by being affable in response, or when we're rude and cold and they get angry at us, it's interesting to see how some of them get more attached and close to us because we're alike and agree on most things, or because we're always gentle and loving in general, while others will get annoyed by it and push us away bc we're too soft or bc we disagree on everything or treat them contemptuously.

But all of that is harder to see if the main character goes ahead and makes the choices for us, or if they're naturally too nice and trusting or too reclusive and aloof. I guess it's better when we get to choose what we are through our own choices and actions or when the other characters start seeing us in a certain way because we nearly always behave that same way towards them?

Anyway, this is just my opinion on preset vs blank canvas MC, but this is a very interesting topic to discuss and all ideas are valid!

Okay, I asked this a while back and saw your response just never got to answering.

I dig all of this and thank you for telling me your point of view. I can agree with a lot but then also disagree. Blank characters for me are just that, too blank. I love the idea that one can headcanon to their heart's content but then the story/work just feels emptier.

I'm going to use Our Life (visual novel, guys check it out if you haven't) as an example because I think it does a good job at giving you this really blank character that you can control. I have an OC that gets into trouble growing up but that's never really shown. In the game you're never really given the ability to be a troublemaker or someone who struggles with anger or something like that. Again this is just one example, I'm sure folks can come up with hundreds more.

A game that kinda takes your hand and says "hey, this is who you are" takes that ability to say "oh my person is a troublemaker" because we obviously just told you that you're not, away. And I think I like that more. Maybe this is why I like novels more than IF's. I'd rather be told "hey this is who you are and though you have some agency, this is you" versus "you're a blank slate and anything you want goes" cos then I feel like the character I created actually belongs there. Stuff that makes them, them is talked about and addressed versus me just imagining it all and probably having to resort to fanfic.

But again, this is just me. And I do get your viewpoint and can't argue with some of the points cos they're true. And thank you again for telling me your mindset on it.

I'VE FINALLY FINISHED THIS GODFORSAKEN DRAWING AND THIS EQUALLY AS GODFORSAKEN POST

So yeah! This is my (self-insert) OC Wolfsbane Cookie!

Normally they wear glasses, I just prefer how they look without them/don't like drawing them.

Basically they did time crime for like a year (bffs with twizzly) and then took a break for a year. Now they're just fucking around with timekeeper. I haven't thought of anything specific really.

Lore dump under cut: Tw suicide

so basically Wolfsbane used to be human but they're not anymore (cookie now, obviously)

Wolfsbane (plant) is a poisonous plant occasionally used in medicine. Because of its use in medicine it gets bottled up and sold and stuff. So Wolfsbane (cookie) is going through a rough patch in their life (or one that's particularly bland) and downs like, 17 fluid ounces of wolfsbane (plant), making it a little over 1/10 of their bloodstream. I think. I'm not one hundred percent on how the digestive system works. They die though, that’s like, way over a lethal dose.

Meanwhile in another dimension dr wasabi (and timekeeper, but they just pop in here and there, they aren't leading the experiment) is trying to pull beings from another world/dimension into their own. This will usually require the person they're trying to pull have something significant about them, whether that be emotionally or physically or whatever. (I just thought that would be neat bc usually the cookie’s have a flavor or something that’s their whole deal)

Shortly after wolfsbane becomes a cookie, Timekeeper sees them and immediately recognizes that something's up with them. More specifically, that they are an anomaly. (Wolfsbane's existence is NOT sanctioned by millennial tree cookie and has NO predictable future.) Anomalies don't really occur in life forms/make up a life form; however, this is because it makes the life form extremely unstable. Nonetheless, timekeeper is hyped and kinda immediately kidnaps Wolfsbane and stabilizes them. (That's why they have the gear around their left hand! I hate drawing it but I drew it this time!) They put wolfsbane back afterwards, but does visit them numerous times in the following weeks.

After a couple weeks of Wolfsbane being, revived? I guess? Twizzly comes over (peeled carrot cookie mentions wasabi at one point during their event) and is like haha whats that. why he so eye (I don’t think it came across in the drawing, but wolfsbane has like, abnormally large eyes. Not for any important reason, i just think its funny.) and takes it on her crew because why not.

This might be a really unpopular opinion, but hear me out.

Supposedly some people like so-called 'reader insert' stories, where the writer has created this bizarre blank canvas for the reader to project themselves onto, but for the most part, like... it just looks like lazy writing to me, and I genuinely don't understand what about it is appealing or helps the reader relate to your story in any way, let alone imagine themselves in it.

'You', the reader, didn't do the thing in the story; 'you' don't even have a name in this story. 'You' aren't worthy of being a whole person here. 'You' are only doing very generic and ultimately meaningless things because the writer has neutered 'you' and made 'you' as unremarkable as possible.

Think about it in terms of your blorbo(s), if you have any, or your real life friends or partners or family members:

What makes you love them? What makes them interesting to you? What makes you look up to them? What makes you want ot hug them? What makes you shake your head and roll your eyes at them? What makes you yell at them? What do they do that makes you cry?

Those are the kinds of traits your protagonists need (not to mention names and genders and all that shit).

Or look at video games that have actual protagonists, not blank self-inserts. The Last of Us, God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Horizon Zero Dawn. Those games are widely loved and held up as some of the great masterpieces of video game narratives because they are about people.

When I think about the stories I relate to hard and fall in love with, the ones that leave a mark and have an impact, the protagonist is always a person. They are definitely not me. They have a name, a face, a body, a gender, a personality. They have quirks and hopes and dreams. They have fucked-up impulses and a dark side and genuinely weird shit happening inside their heads that you just know has to come from the creator's personal experiences, because nobody could make some of that shit up.

But here's the thing: that's what makes me relate. That's what makes me get attached. Those moments where the character does something totally off the wall specific and weird and I go "wow, I'm not the only person on earth who gets nauseated from drinking plain tap water! I feel SEEN!"

And I don't just feel seen or heard. I feel worthy of love or friendship or admiration because this character is shown to be worthy of those things. I feel like I could be a better version of myself because this character is working to become just that, and maybe is already halfway there. I feel like I can summon the will to fight against the things I struggle with because this character - who struggles with some of the same shit I do - is also fighting.

That's what get me hooked. The person who freaks out when different foods touch on their plate. The person who's so used to only being addressed by a nickname that they literally don't respond to their legal name anymore. The person who only ever smokes half a cigarette because they're too damn antsy and impatient to finish the whole thing.

So I guess what I'm saying is... you, the writer, shouldn't do your readers the disservice of assuming they are incapable of relating to your OCs.

They are smart enough, they are interested, they are worth the time and effort it takes for you to develop your protagonist into a real person, and they will love you for it.

5. Is there any significance behind their hair color?

not really lol. john's hair is brown because it's the most common hair colour, nico [pascal's object of obsession from 2017 inver] has black hair because i wanted to further visually distinguish him from bowman. both have visible grey streaks because it's an easy way to help define the shape of the hair when drawing it

6. Is there any significance behind their eye color?

yes but only in that they (and all my characters) have brown eyes because i got tired of ppl seemingly on purpose avoiding brown eyes for their interesting characters. so i only make brown-eyed characters on purpose. the only exception is cuinn (harpy) because he has albinism but typical members of his species have dark brown eyes.

7. Is there any significance behind their height?

yes, john is my height on purpose (5'4") and nico is 5'3" because i'd unintentionally made my previous trans man characters pretty tall so i thought well let's make one who is short hashtag representation

8. What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?

i relate to john because i'm also a beautiful brunette who sucks so much. nico is unrelatable to me because he's a cop (he's not really but the plot does follow a buddy cop format)

9. Are they based off of you, in some way?

john from long long ago (2011, my first major setting) was a direct self insert thus the similarities in appearance. he has some parts of me in him because he's my main dnd character and it's hard not to project when doing 5 hour improv sessions once a week but he has never been less like me tbh. nico ehhh not really, we don't align personality-wise because i would not tolerate pascal for more than 5 seconds without wanting to hit him with my car

10. If they have an LI, how much of their character is tailored to be compatible to that person?

for john yeah 100%, they were made for each other. the angle i'm going with for their arc is a "perfectly synchronous" relationship being no protection for some bad shit going down between them, showing that if two people are SOO perfectly made for one another, it can often lead to one person taking the other for granted, assuming they can predict how the other person will react in any given situation, and ultimately it all results in a messy breakdown of communication.

for nico i meannnnnnnn he is a horse trainer and pascal is a horse so there is that, but in terms of personality they are intentionally very opposed and clash frequently, get on each other's nerves, fight, and not always smooth over those incidences. they are not very compatible.

11. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?

yep

12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?

I'm going to be real with u I could draw and write John in my sleep. Nico i find difficult to write, I have a hard time finding his voice. The ranger uniform also annoys me.

13. How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?

john as a dnd character has no future whatsoever aside from a planned multiclass, he could fall off a cliff next session and die idk. Nico is one of the few characters i haven't thought much about post-canon, i don't feel like it's relevant.

14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?

john: 1. literally just say the first thing that comes to mind, always. 2. keep em guessing

nico: 1. hes scared of boats and this is surprisingly relevant, i keep forgetting it lol. 2. i try to keep in mind my studies of horse trainers & their work, how they interact with their animals and what subtle body language they might use; these are people who frequently have to convince giant frightened animals that they are in charge here, this translates into how they hold themselves, how they speak, how they approach conflict etc.

15. What is something about your OC can make you laugh?

john's secret fear which we have discussed in dms (iykyk)

nico let himself get tricked into going on a theme park date with pascal while on duty and didn't even realise until afterwards that it was an elaborate setup of fabricated evidence all so that pascal could get him in the tunnel of love
