it’s been nearly two weeks since you’ve spoken to or seen chris. he seemed to have been thoroughly convinced that you cheated on him.

you weren’t able to get through to him due to him blocking you. you could have tried messaging him through instagram since he hadn’t blocked on the app, but you knew the amount of dms he got a day so the chances of him even seeing your message was slim to none.

with him not blocking you on instagram came the sadness of seeing him slowing either delete or archive the pictures he had of you two on his account.

truthfully, you didn’t cheat on him and his lack of trust in you and your relationship felt like knives to the chest.

you knew how chris was, he’d eventually realize he was in the wrong and finally try to talk to you.

now, you weren’t so sure how you would feel if he did. it’s genuinely hurt you to know that one simple thing could lead to him doubting your love for him completely. you weren’t fond of being in a relationship with someone that chose to listen to strangers rather than to hear it from the source.

you just finished stress cleaning up your room, a pile of chris’ belongings off to the side in case he had one of his brothers stop by to come grab it.

just as you were about to take a break, your phone began to go off with people mentioning you on a video on tiktok.

curious, you sat in your desk chair, your heart pounding in your chest as you watched a girl, who could easily be mistaken as you, set up her camera.

‘hi, my names jasmine- jas if we’re close.’

she chuckled, tugging her red hair behind her ear.

‘recently, there’s been a picture of me and my boyfriend going around. in the photo, we can be seen kissing, but my back is towards whoever it was that took the picture.’

she cleared her throat, adjusting her posture. the exact photo that got people confused showed up in the corner of your screen.

‘now, i don’t do social media. i’m not an influencer, but i am aware of what goes on, you know what i mean? anyway- people think that i’m the youtuber yn ln.’

she laughed in disbelief.

‘i wasn’t going to say anything because, again, i don’t do social media. but i saw the poor girl getting hate because people think she cheated on her boyfriend chris. i’m here to clear it up. that is me in the picture, not yn. here’s a side by side of the picture the stranger took, and l a picture from the same day that my boyfriend and i took.’

as she said this, a cute photo of jasmine and her boyfriend smiling at the camera appeared on the right side of the picture that got you canceled.

‘i doubt she’d see this, but if she does, i’m so sorry that i didn’t come out sooner to say anything. but last thing i want is for someone to get hated on for something they didn’t do.’

and with that, the video ended.

I met Harry in primary school. I always thought he was a little weird but just as high school finished I fell head over heels in love with that weird boy. That was 12 years old. We got married two years ago, it was a small wedding in Guernsey with only our closest friends and family. Just under a year ago we decided we wanted a kid, 4 months later I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant. I waited an entire week to tell Harry just so I could tell him with a little bag containing a mini version of his charity match jersey inside (that I'd had specially made). Then we told the boys, Faith, Freya and Talia at a special dinner that we arranged just so we could tell them all together. They were extremely excited, especially Ethan and Faith because there would now be another set of parents in the group.

We found out we were having a little girl when I was 21 weeks. That was also around the time I felt the baby kick for the first time, me and Harry sat in our bed absolutely freaking out about it. After we knew it was a girl I could finally start buying an unholy amount of baby clothes, teddies and things for the nursery. Me and Faith have become considerably closer, since we now have things to talk about, she's really been a great help when it came to little worries I had or if I just needed someone to rant to about back pain.

I'm currently 38 weeks. The hospital bags are packed and the nursery is completely ready. I am seriously getting bored of being pregnant and would really like to just meet my baby. Harry ran me a warm bath so I could relax. Then I dried myself, put on my current favourite pyjamas and slid into bed next to him. I struggled slightly getting to sleep since I was really uncomfortable. I tossed and turned until I finally drifted off to sleep.

I woke to the feeling of wet between my legs. Confused, I pulled the covers back. My eyes met a large patch of clear ish liquid on the mattress, barely visible in the darkness of the room. My brows furrowed then my face dropped, mouth turning into an O shape. My water just broke. I took a deep breath then turned to gently shake Harry awake, he groaned. "Haz, wake up" I whispered gently. "What- what's up?!" He said the last part with a little bit of urgency after properly waking. "I think my water just broke." I stated calmly. His eyes widened "what!" He jumped off the bed.

"Calm down. It's fine the midwife said we have time, remember?" His face calmed slightly then he took in a shaky breath "are you ok?" He asked, coming over to my side of the bed. "I'm fine." I replied. He helped me off the soaked bed and to my feet. "This is really happening, we're really going this." He said with slight excitement in his eyes. "Yes we are. Now can you grab the hospital bag while I change?" He quickly nodded then ran towards the nursery where the bag resides.

I got changed into a comfy sweat set, brushed my hair and tied it back into a bun. When I emerged from the bedroom Harry was stood by the door rapidly texting on his phone. "Ready to go?" I asked. He looked up "yea," he nodded "I was just texting the boys." I giggled "Harry it's 5am!" I said with a light shake of my head. "I needed to tell someone!" He exclaimed. "We're any of them even awake?" I asked as he unlocked the front door. "Uh- no but they'll see it in a bit." I laughed.

Once we got in the car I text my mum telling her what was going on, then Harry speedily started the car. We were at the hospital just 15 minutes later. Harry helped me inside and we were quickly taken to a private room. "What time did your water break?" The nurse asked. "Around half four." I answered. "Ok... and have you had any contractions?" She questioned while scribbling on her clipboard. "Uh no, not yet." She looked up "alright then, I'll get my colleague to come and attach you to some machines so we can monitor you and baby." She said with a kind smile. I thanked her and she left the room.

Another nurse came in soon after and wrapped my stomach with some monitors, she did some other general checks on me. Once she left Harry came to sit next to me and held my hand. I smiled at him but my smile was quickly replaced with a look of discomfort as I felt a small but painful cramp wrap around the bottom of my stomach. "Woah, was that a contradiction?" Harry questioned a few seconds later, once it had subsided. I nodded "ye I think so." I replied. "Should I go get the nurse?" He asked. "No I'm fine." I answered. He nodded and kept his hand firmly in mine.

Once it hit 8am I was having regular contractions that were lasting around 30 seconds each and were 7 minutes apart. The midwife came in and checked how dilated I was, 4 centimetres. Me and Harry sat on a FaceTime call with his mum, dad and Rosie, just a few minutes after we called my family. Then I got a call from Faith. "Hey! How's it going. How are you?!" She asked excitedly. "Hey, I'm okay." I said with a light smile. She returned the smile "I literally couldn't believe it when Ethan told me you were in labour this morning." She stated. Before I could say anything else I felt another contraction building. I quickly said goodbye and placed my phone next to me. I took a deep breath and squeezed Harry's hand. "You're doing so good, breathe." He said quietly. As the pain subsided I let out a heavy sigh. Harry squeezed my hand lightly "You're incredible." I looked to him and smiled "You're so cute."

After an excruciating amount of time I was finally at 9 centimetres. I stood with my arms wrapped around Harry's neck, swaying slightly and breathing heavily. "Not long now. You've got this. I love you. You're doing so good." Harry whispered in to my ears as I clung to him. He kept his hands firmly on my waist, helping me to stay up. "Ok y/n, It looks like you're ready to push!" My midwife said and I looked up to Harry with fear in my eyes. He helped me back onto the bed and cupped my face in his hands gently "you're gonna be fine, I'm here." He said with a comforting voice. To be honest I thought Harry was going to be an absolute mess when it came to me giving birth but I was pleasantly surprised on how strong he's been, for me.

I lay back on the bed, held up by a few pillows and Harry was quick to grab my hand, once again. With my legs propped up, my midwife sat on a chair in front of me. "On the next contraction push as hard as you can." she said through my legs. I nodded nervously and it wasn't long until I felt that now all familiar pain run from my stomach all the way round to my lower back. I squeezed Harry's hand so tight I thought I might break it as I pushed with all I had.

After almost 30 minutes of what felt like constant pushing I finally heard the loud cries of my baby. Tears immediately poured down my face and the last few hours completely left my brain. I looked over to Harry once they passed me my baby. I have only ever seen Harry cry once during the entire time I've known him, but there was tears falling down his face as he stared sweetly at me. "You did incredible. She's perfect. I love you so much." He choked out. I brought him towards me by fisting his shirt in my hand and pulling him so our lips connected.

Once Harry cut the babies umbilical cord, both me and baby were checked over and cleaned up and we informed our families and friends that we were both ok and that the baby was healthy, we sat admiring the sweet little baby peacefully sleeping in the plastic cot. "We need to name her." Harry said quietly. "Got any ideas?" I asked, realising I hadn't actually thought about the fact she'd need a name. "Uhm, I like the name Nova." He said. My eyes lit up slightly and I nodded "she looks like a Nova." More tears dropped from my eyes. Harry shuffled towards me "what's wrong? are you okay?" He asked softly. I laughed lightly "I'm fine. I just- love her so much." Harry giggled then pulled me into a warm hug "I love you." He said with a breathy laugh. I smiled into his chest "I love you too."

each hit to her body ricocheted through her muscles, feeling the marks and scars form on her skin. it was a foreign feeling, one of fear and pain. y/n was helpless on the ground of the alley, and there was nothing she could do.

her heartbeat thumped in her ears, and she was horrified that she might not even look the same, let alone be the same. she faces things like this every single day, saving someone’s life but she could barely manage to save her own.

she only wanted to bring home food for chris and eddie, her beloved ones who instantly became her family. she was almost like a mother to christopher, and he was connected to her as she was always there for him.

the moment eddie proposed to y/n, he knew that there would be no hesitation. he had never felt this way about a woman before, let alone want to live with her until their hair turned grey. every single part of y/n left eddie enamored, just falling for her all over again. her persistence and attitude was nothing but precious to him, and he couldn’t help but love every part of her.

he waited for her to come home, knowing that she would be stopping at the grocery store. it was late, the sky dark and the streets only illuminated by the street lamps. he knows how tough she is, and she’d be ok. so, he patiently waited at home with his son, the worries in the far back of his head.

as y/n’s body was dragged about and penetrated with sharpness, all she could think about was her fiancé and stepson at home. the two people she loves most in this world. it was so hard not to give up and let these criminals take her life, but she knew neither of them could deal with her life being stripped away.

let alone the 118. bucks been her best friend since day one, being the first supporter of her and eddie’s relationship. he completely adores her and her humor, along with her strong work ethic. ravi has always looked up to her from the moment he stepped into the station on his first day. she assisted him and taught him with kindness, but didn’t go easy on him. she’s the reason that ravi is the firefighter he is, and he idolizes her for that, in and out of work. hen and chimney have been alongside her, running into each building and saving a civilian. she was almost too good to be true, and the people who attacked her had no idea.

the men heard the crumbling of rocks underneath tires, and scurried away into the midnight. y/n was left there to rot, laying on the hard ground and feeling herself bleed out. her entire body was in agony, but it was nothing compared to the thought of losing herself.

her weak fingers traveled to her pockets, taking out her phone with a shattered screen. surprisingly, the group wasn’t smart enough to steal it, and she thanked god for it. her blurry vision was tempting her, minutes away from fading into complete darkness. her mind was shrouded with negativity, but a flicker of hope came in when she heard maddies voice on the other side of the phone.

“maddie.” y/n groans, practically inaudible. maddie freezes at the letters of her name leave this woman’s mouth, being strictly confused but also horrified. “y/n.”

the slightly collection of blood in her mouth made the words jumble together, maddie using every ounce of brain power to put the pieces together.

“i’m sorry, i didn’t-“ the light goes off in maddies brain, finally being able to put the letters together, forming y/n’s name. “y/n?” she hears a painful groan of agreement from the muffled earpiece. “can you tell me exactly what happened?”

“they tried to kill me,” y/n informs her, slowing her breathing but it only makes her head spin faster. her eyes are closed, fighting the unconsciousness that’s begging to take over. “maddie, i’m not gonna be able to stay awake, but… i-i’m somewhere near the interchange.”

“y/n, honey, you have to try and stay awake for me, okay?” maddie begs, her eyes filling with moisture as she hears y/n’s small voice come through the phone in stutters. “y/n?” the phone lands over her torso, beginning to be stained with blood as y/n’s mind is shrouded in black, unable to process anything any longer.

eddie sat in the living room with christopher, watching a show for chris to practice his spanish. they were both invested in the plot, but also trying to expose christopher to the language.

eddie adored nights like this with his son. christopher is his sun, and his world revolves around him. he protects christopher with every ounce of his being, and there’s not a moment where he regrets any of it. the room was dimmed, the wick of the candle radiating a sweet smell as the words on the tv came through.

there was excitement in his mind as well, knowing y/n would be home soon to greet them. her alluring smile would be seen the moment she stepped in the door, and her bewitching voice became music to the boys. instead, when he heard others car doors slam, he was confronted with silence from his front door afterwards.

the next 15 minutes passed slowly but surely, and there were no signs of y/n coming home. he checked his phone only to find no messages or calls. his thoughts began to run through everything that could’ve happened, and he attempted to focus on the brighter ones. he finally heard the knock on the door, the pounding coming off assertive. somehow, he still wanted to find optimism and it could’ve been y/n.

when the door swung open, a burly man who was slightly taller than eddie stood in front of him. he had on a jacket with the LAPD, and eddie’s heart fell at the look on his face. it was blank on the outside, but eddie could tell he was here to deliver something horrid. he listened as the officer deeply uttered his first and last name, christopher lifting his head to the door at the unfamiliar voice.

in this line of work, eddie knew exactly why the man was here. “where is she?” eddie’s voice crackles, showing weakness when he’s so used to being strong.

the ride to the hospital was silent, deafening silence that only turned up the volume on eddie’s fears. the chugged through his head like a train on tracks, and he could barely see straight. he had absolutely no idea what to expect, only knowing that his girl was in the hospital. for all he could know, she could be wide awake or she could be in the morgue.

it felt like someone had grasped his heart, restricting him from breathing as he saw the almost empty waiting room. he desperately looked for anyone, finally landing his eyes on maddie.

“maddie!” he shouts, stomping over to her in anxiety. “what the hell happened?”

“i got a call,” maddie told him, her voice shaky and uncertain. “i could barely even tell who it was -her voice was so different- she told me that they tried to… they tried to kill her.” maddie mumbles the last part out, not wanting to imagine her closest friend’s life being taken.

the room started becoming blurry, all sights and sounds around eddie becoming irrelevant. it felt like he was the only person in the room, and someone from above was pointing and laughing at him. it was like a gunshot, being thrown back at the sudden force, or in this case, the sudden news that someone had attempted murder on y/n.

“i called buck, he’s on his way,” maddie says, fidgeting with her hands as she looks into eddie’s distant eyes. “eddie, sit down-“

“what room is she in?”

“i don’t know if you want to see her like this so fa-“

“maddie, i love you like a sister, but if you don’t tell me what room she’s in, i swear…”

“she’s in 319,” and that was the last thing eddie heard before taking wide steps through the hallways, his feet swiftly carrying him through the hospital as he eyes the door numbers. 316, 317, 318, and the one that held y/n inside. he prepared himself for the worst, but nothing could compare to actually seeing it.

each cut on her face was surrounded by a thick bruise disguising her angelic features. her soft, welcoming expression was replaced with discomfort and tightness. her eyes were tired and screwed shut, begging to remain closed and her lips were tightly coiled around the thick tube down her throat. the mechanical breaths pumped through her body, and eddie only hurt himself more with every step he took to her room.

she heard the thumping of footsteps down the hall, and prayed that it was eddie on his way to save her. she wanted him to just pick her up and they could run away, live their life and forget about all that happened that evening. she wanted to smile, but the look on his face was only disappointing.

his face looked as if someone had landed a punch to his gut, leaving his stomach dropping and shakiness building through his hands. he could barely figure out the words to say. his beautiful girl, the one he lays with at night and the one who kisses him with her soft lips. the one who he cries to and laughs with, and someone tried to steal it.

she had a long, white cast over her leg, being slightly elevated in the bed. he could see the bandages all over her body, and the thick wrap of gauze around her belly. he didn’t have any idea what to say, and it brought eddie back to the former years.

before he and y/n dated, shannon had passed away as eddie watched the life leave her eyes. he felt everything, the guilt, the grief, the anger. it took too long for things to return, but he never, ever wanted to experience that again. he couldn’t do it, he couldn’t manage to push through losing y/n.

y/n wanted to move so bad, she used all fibers of her muscles to try and bring herself up to meet eddie, but she was only met with his frozen figure staring down at her own. someone had put chains on her body, restricting her from moving or speaking, let alone open her eyes. she wanted to be caught while she was falling, but was just left dangling in the air without a hand to grab onto. just by the aura eddie reflects, she knew he was there.

he stepped closer, running his smooth fingers down her rough wounds, brushing her silky hair down. the hissing of her intubation flooded the silent room, realizing that it’s the only thing keeping her alive.

the door had remained open, the doctor entering the room and knocking on the open door. he stepped out and stood in front of the bed, carrying binders and charts in his arms. he looked through them, explaining each familiar term to eddie as he went down the list of y/n’s injuries. the doctor knew eddie well, him returning to the hospital to drop off a patient, or god forbid a patient himself. he let eddie sit alone next to her in the room, watching the very small movements of her chest.

the next person came rushing in, much faster than the doctor had. buck swung the door open, maddie trailing behind him in hesitation to see her friend like this.

“jesus,” buck whispers under his breath, stepping closer to eddie who’s elbows kneel on his knees. “you holding up?”

“i’m fine,” eddie tells his friend, fully aware he’s far from it. his eyes wander down to the ring in maddies hand, the one eddie remembers shining in the little box. it’s been years, but with their schedules, they could never find a date. they found their perfect venue and time, and y/n was so excited. now, it was questioned whether or not she would even make it to their wedding.

“i’ll call her family and take care of stuff for her and work,” buck assists, patting eddie’s shoulder before moving back out of the room with his cell phone. maddie takes this opportunity to step closer to eddie, and try to touch his heart to help ease the pain.

“you need to eat, or walk for a bit, eddie.” maddie tells him, lightly throwing her arms up and receiving zero glances from him. when she notices the distance in his eyes, she knows exactly what he needs. “eddie!”

he perks up, looking into maddies soothing eyes and seeing her begin to walk toward the door. “she’ll be ok for a minute, please just come with me.” she pleads, finally achieving to get eddie out of the uncomfortable hospital chair.

eddie follows maddie through the halls like he’s just a kid, letting his mother lead him through. it was a strange feeling, one that was out of his control. the control that he’s so used to having. maddie sauntered casually through the thick white walls and metal stretchers in the halls. she looked up and down the stretch of area, seeing no nurses or doctors. she swung open the storage closet, yanking eddie in and standing in front of the door. she leaned against it, looking into eddie’s exhausted eyes. they were so close to breaking, and maybe that’s exactly what he needed.

“it’s ok to let yourself take a break.” maddie says to eddie, watching him place his hands on his hips and allow his tired eyes to well up. “do whatever you have to. scream, cry, lay on the ground, throw those lap pads. it’s clear as day that you’re about to fall apart and you can’t carry this weight and be there for her at the same time.”

he spun around, spitting out a dry chuckle and losing the eye contact. he couldn’t face it, he couldn’t handle someone watching him look so weak. however, when maddie turned around, he knew that she was safe, and that he was too.

first, his breathing starts to pick up along with the sharp burning in his nostrils. it was as if the gears of an attack started turning, and eddie knew now that there was nothing to stop them.

his hands began to shake, messily frizzing his gelled hair as his fingers ran through it. his already tightened chest had began to feel like it was being crushed, and someone was wrapping their strong fingers around his heart.

the tears started coming in constant streams down his cheeks, leaving shiny residue on the soft skin. he tasted the salty cries on his lips whenever he took a deep inhale. with a strange sensation, there’s a feeling of lightness throughout his body. he knows too well that y/n remains helpless in the other room, but he also knows that he can’t control it.

in such a simply way, eddie cries. he cries for his son, who he knows is going to be completely shredded by the news of y/n’s condition. he cries for her parents, thinking about someone’s little girl in that bed. he cries for himself, watching his beloved fiancé lose herself. of course, he cries for y/n and how everything she loves has vanished due to the villains in this world.

when maddie turns back around, eddie is hunched over with his head in his hands. his fingers aggressively swipe at his eyes and cheeks, trying to rid any signs of upset in his face. maddie gives him the smallest, but the most reassuring smile that he’s gotten in a while. she opens the door, stepping out and they both walk back to y/n’s room.

eddie didn’t want christopher to see y/n so vulnerable like this. y/n had been a role model to chris since the day he met her, becoming an instant prized person in his life. christopher knew y/n was hurt, buck being the one to break the news as eddie physically couldn’t form the words. a few days had passed, and christopher still had not seen y/n, or barely even known what happened. someone did something bad, and that’s the only thing he could handle hearing.

christopher begged to see y/n to his dad, who tried to hide the situation from him as long as possible. he allowed eventually, becoming aware of the unfairness, and that christopher deserves to see favorite person, too.

buck walked into the doors with christopher, eddie meeting them at the front. eddie had become more accustomed to the sight of y/n on the bed, and her limp figure resting silently. he couldn’t help but let out a cheesy grin at his son, seeing him excitedly walk in to see y/n.

“dad!” he shouts, stepping closer to eddie who then embraces him.

“hey, chris!” he replies, thrilled to see his boy after the past few days from hell.

“is y/n better yet?” he asks, and the naivety almost breaks eddie.

“uh, not yet, buddy,” eddie mumbles. “she’s still sleeping.”

“can i please see her?”

“you can, of course, but christopher,” eddie kneels down to match his height, placing his hands on christopher’s sides. “i want you to know that she doesn’t look normal right now. it’s okay to be scared.”

“are you scared?”

eddie looks at the ground, not wanting his son to see him in his moment of weakness. he looks at buck, who wears the matching expression of glumness on his face. “yeah, i am. but, it’s going to be ok.” he takes christopher to the room, greeting everyone else who came to visit her.

hen leans against the wall of the room, toward the end of her bed. chim sits against the window, a grimace formed on his lips. ravi had come to visit, only being able to watch y/n on the small mattress. bobby watched, painfully, from the corner as well. athena had stopped by, but she was still on duty and had to leave.

christopher walked in, stepping up toward the bed and seeing a smile form on everyone’s face. they adore him, but he doesn’t understand how they can smile right now. “can she hear me?”

“i think she can,” hen replies, giving another grieving, but comforting expression

“y/n,” he begins. “i know you’re really hurt, but we all need you to come back. it’s not your fault, but you have to come back to us, and dad. everyone is here for you, and we all love you. you’ve always taken care of me, and i need you. you can’t let the bad guys win.”

eddie leans against the doorframe, his hand over his mouth and tears sprinting back down his face. he attempts to choke back the audible sobs, but the silent weeping in the corner almost felt worse.

the days passed, slow and agonizing days of seeing her only linear condition. it felt like nothing was going anywhere, until the doctors came in to check her on the week mark.

“her brain function is looking pretty good, it’s honestly best that the coma saved some of it. her heart rate looks extraordinary, and her white blood cell count is good, mr. diaz.”

the good news comes light as a feather to eddie, barely touching the optimism in his head. he knows he should be happy, but until he sees that beautiful face that he calls his awake and alert, nothing will be the same. he knew he should be grateful that she’s even breathing, but what he would give to be able to bring her back to the surface and hold his hand.

as much as it stung his heart, life continued without y/n’s consciousness. he had a child who had needs, a family who had needs, the person inside of him that also had needs. he was too smart to know that he was destroying himself every minute that he spent next to her brittle body. maddie swore to spend every second with her that eddie couldn’t be.

she sat besides her, spoke to her, told her stories and read her books. maddie always let y/n cry on her shoulder, now it was maddie weeping on her bedside. hours ticked by on the shiny hospital clocks, and the sun crept down and dimmed the sky along with the room. maddies eyes were pushed with weight, her own sleepiness covering her thoughts. she allowed herself to slump back on the chair, pulling her legs up and her breathing began to shallow, lulling herself to sleep.

the next time she awoke was around six in the morning, the morning sky slowly being illuminated by the orange sunrise. the light outside was glorious, the painting on the horizon better than any artist could create. the swift streaks of clouds only simply covered the sliver of sun peeking out.

when maddie stretched out her arms, she smiled at the warm colors outside the big glass window, she searched around the room, noticing the soft sound of fabric shuffling on the bed.

it was almost like a ghost had appeared and laid in the bed, moving itself around over the sheets. maddie directed her eyes closer, seeing y/n’s fragile fingers twitch and run over the smooth bed.

“y/n?” maddie asks, her voice still weak from her slumber. she begins to sit up, faster than before, to examine y/n’s face. there’s a brighter color to her features, her cheeks became more pigmented and she looked more full. she didn’t just look like another body in the hospital, waiting for her heart to give up on itself.

the more words that left maddie’s mouth, the more flickering she saw on y/n’s face. her heart was pounding against her chest, feeling the anxiety rise through her spine. “hey, y/n.” she whispers, giving a reassuring squeeze to her hand. after a few moments that felt like centuries, y/n’s eyelashes fluttered a bit, and her red, tired irises were finally revealed again.

eddie was laying on the couch, unable to sleep in the bed that once held the couple together. it felt eerily cold without her, his hand subconsciously floating over to run a hand over her back, only to be confronted with the chilly satin. he never wanted to leave y/n, but he also know that she would never want him to fall apart in the hospital watching her. he so badly wanted his eyes to finally shut, being able to give him even an hour of rest. someone had their fingers holding open his eyes, painting horrible images in his mind.

he turned on his back, his arm behind his head and staring into the bumpy, popcorn ceilings of his home. the home he shares with his son and his fiancée, the two people he cherishes the most. now, it was filled with darkness and loss and he prayed that he could get it back.

something grabbed ahold of his mind, halting his thoughts with the blaring noise of his ringtone. when he saw the ID of maddie illuminate his phone, he thought of the worst. either y/n was dead, and he never gets to see her again, or nothing has changed, and there is only more of an agonizing wait.

“eddie, you should get here,” was all he needed to hear over the phone before he roused christopher, dropping him off to get more rest at his tías, and eddie continued to speed over to the hospital.

the tube was gone. it was replaced with a skinnier cord, only pushing air into her through her lungs. her face, still bruised and scraped, but so alive. her eyes shined through the room, meeting eddie’s with a slight upturn of her lip. she was laying on her side with her hand under her cheek. the dark bags under her eyes were clear, but practically matching with eddie’s.

the moment he walked into that room and saw her, his rapid heartbeat began to slow, leaving a dropping sensation in his chest. he scurried over, not being able to stop himself from placing a long kiss on her lips, the ones that had just almost been taken from him.

“i am so, so sorry, mi vida, i wish i were here when you woke up,” he cries, tears welling up in his eyes.

“but you’re here now,” she rasps out, trying to lose the discomfort in her voice. “you’ve been here the whole time for me.”

“don’t ever leave me like that again,” he sighs, pressing his forehead against her own, letting her wired hand be placed on his cheek.

“i wasn’t scared of them,” y/n tells him. “i was scared that they’d take you away from me. i don’t ever want to leave you in the dust like i did last night.”

“last week, honey,” eddie grins with a bit of pity on his voice.

“oh, yeah,” she chuckles a bit, but afterwards grimacing at the pain in her abdomen.

“you should go to sleep, get some real rest this time.”

“i just slept for like, 160 hours, eddie.”

“i know, baby, but you still need to let yourself heal.” she smiles up at him, silently thanking him for his gentleness and tranquility. she nods, as he steps out to see the doctor. maddie returns back in, clutching her purse by her side and smiling her gorgeous maddie beam.

“hi again,” y/n smiles, seeing her best friend walk into the room once more.

maddie carefully walks in, placing her bag down and hugging y/n’s laying figure. “how are you feeling?”

“physically, a bit better,” y/n says.

“but what about the y/n i love. how is she doing in there?”

y/n pauses, all the thoughts rushing back through her head. every sentence screams through her ears, wanting to push itself to the front of her mind. every worry, every fear comes clean to the surface.

“maddie, i don’t know what to do,” her eyes begin to water, and her voice starts to tremble along with her hands. “we’ve been trying to plan this wedding for so long, and those men just took it all away from me. how am i supposed to just move on from that? i’m never going to be able to be the same after that. and eddie,” she sighs, pushing a long exhale out through her mouth. “i feel like i completely destroyed him with this. and now, i have to go to PT and i can’t even walk down the isle by myself! one of these days he’s gonna realize that i’m not worth anything anymore. i’m horrified that every day he has to take care of me, is just one part of him that doesn’t want me anymore.”

her breathing picks up, maddie trying to ease her but ultimately not being able to with just a simple touch. she looks at eddie, still focused on the doctor.

“listen, y/n/n,” maddie begins. “that gang took so much from you, but you have so many people on your side. they lost, you won. and with eddie, he would bleed himself dry if it meant you came home with him. every single breath you take is worth a million dollars to him. you are the most, fighter bitch i’ve ever met, and if anyone’s going to bounce back from this, it’s you. the moment you two kiss on that one night, all this worrying will be for nothing. he is your soldier, and he’ll never leave you. he would fight the gods if it meant he could keep you next to him every night.”

the tears fall onto her pillowcase, leaving several dark patches besides her face. eddie turns back around, letting himself back into to room only to see the upset written all over y/n’s face.

“hey, what’s wrong?” he asks, the sweetness in the delivery of his words. maddie looks up at him, her eyebrows tilting up together in a sadness for her friend. sharp inhales and gasps come through y/n’s body, using her shaking hand to wipe the wet tears from her cheeks. “you’re ok, baby, i got you.” he tells her, sitting besides her on the bed and caressing her side. maddie kisses her cheek, stepping out of the room to leave the engaged pair alone.

“i never want to be away from you again,” she sobs. “promise me you’ll never leave me, and i promise i’ll always love you.”

“i’ll make this promise to you until the day we grow grey hair, or the day you don’t remember me anymore. i’ll promise you this every single day. i mean it when i say i love you more than anything.”

Half of your soul being excited and other half being nervous. Of course, the news was a life changing for you and that meant there would be new responsibilities and new beginnings but mainly you were repeating to yourself how to deliver this news to your husband. He was busy in the mafia business for last one month and you were trying to tell him, but he was always dodging you like he would listen to you next time. Today, he had earlier texted you that he would be coming home early as they had succeeded in their mission and their leader had allowed them to go off and rest for couple of days. And that should be your opportunity to tell him. Tell him that how lucky both of you are going to be. It’s going to be a happy moment for both of you. Or it’s going to be something else.

As soon as you heard the doorbell, your eyes lit up with excitement and you skipped towards the door to greet your husband who was back to you, to his home.

And there, him standing tired and exhausted but still smiling dearly at you. You greeted him back with the same gestures and welcomed him inside.

“I see that you are happy to see me early.” He asked you while placing his shoes aside.

You nodded and kept his bag on the stand, “of course, Mingi. Whenever you come back home, it feels like I have missed you so much.”

He chuckled and pulled you closer to him, “I missed you too, Y/n.” You could smell his cologne and it was comforting.

You tried to pull away but he held you tighter, “Hey, go freshen up. I will prepare some food for you. And…just go.”

“And? Just say it now. You are going to say something so just say it.” He asked you in a low voice and you rested your palms over his chest. Eyes shining and teeth nibbling the lips.

“Mingi……We are going to start our family in a new way.”

“New way? What do you mean by that?” He had a frown on his face but still managed to put on a smile.

“You are going to be a father.” You happily squealed in the end of the statement. You stared at him, to see his reaction on hearing the news of your baby. Your anticipating eyes somehow dropped to see him serious. Just cold, no more emotion on his face. No more smiling at you. “Mingi…”

His hold loosened his grip and moved back from you, leaving you confused.

“What do you mean?” He asked you in an unsure tone and looked away from you.

“I’m pregnant, babe.”

“and since when did you know about this?”

“last month. It's been almost two months old...”

He chuckled, but not amusedly, he was annoyed. He brushed back his hairs and heavily sighed.

“So, there’s still time for abortion.” He stared straight at your eyes.

“What?” you were more confused with his statement. Did you hear it right? He mentioned about abortion. Right? That did only mean that he was not happy with the news.

“You…you don’t want the baby?”

“Of course not. Get rid of that thing.” He spat it out harshly.

You gripped the sofa tightly and sink deeper into the leather when your back of the knee hit the sofa. The leather was of smooth texture but it was stinging your skin harshly like his words to you. You waited for one month to say this, only to hear him telling you to get rid of this.

“Thing?...This… this is our baby…our-“

“Stop it, Y/n!” You flinched at the loud voice. “I just don’t want to hear anything more regarding this topic. You are going for an abortion tomorrow and that’s final. End of this discussion.”

You didn’t reply him anything but just staring at him in disbelief. You couldn’t believe that the man who shouted at you was your once loving boyfriend whom you have married five years ago and never ever treated you less than a doll in his house. If you had done anything wrong then also, he would have put on a smile and would teach you the right thing and would fill you with kisses and cuddles.

Did something happen that suddenly he is acting this way?

He slammed the bedroom shut, leaving you alone in the living room with you and your thoughts. Tears flowing down your eyes and you didn’t care to wipe them off but clutched your fists above your knees. Does he not care to have this child? But why? Is he not happy with having a child?

Time passed and you didn’t notice how you fell asleep on the sofa. You heard some shuffling sounds and you sat up.

“Sorry, I didn’t want to wake you up.”

“Mingi…Do you not want the baby?” You asked quietly. He was calm than before but you were not sure if he would listen to anything related to it.

“Stop it. Tomorrow, you are going to the hospital with me and I don’t want to hear anything else from you.” He spoke in a tone of authority, keeping the strong eye contact with you.

Your eyes looked tired and shocked to see your husband acting this way. Your world seemed to be falling apart. This is the most important part of your life. This is the connection between you both then why this is unwanted.

“This is our baby, Mingi.”

“Not needed. Our life is better without any baby so without getting any further with this conversation, we are going to hospital and you are aborting it. Got it?”

“No. I’m not doing this.”

“Are you really talking back to me on this?” He raised his eyebrows, tilting his head in a daring way to challenge you to speak more.

“Yes. I am stating my true points unlike you who is running away from his responsibilities.”

“Y/N!”

Standing on your feet, you walked towards him, “Enough. I don’t want to hear further anything about this. If you don’t want this then I’m keeping and will take care of him. All Alone”

Your hot tears pooled in your eyes, shaking and threatened to fall anytime smoothly across the cheek just like the way the both of you were drifting apart from your once lovely relationship. You balled your fist and grabbed his collar of his t-shirt and looking at him in disbelief where he was daringly watching your movements.

“So, you think you can take care of yourself all alone?” Raising his eyebrows, a questionable look on his soft face.

A teardrop escapes your shaking eyes but he seemed not to care about it at this moment, only if he had seen that in other moment, he would have ripped off the skin who made you like this. But maybe he has changed. He has changed after he found out that you are pregnant.

“I can. If you don’t want this baby then fine, I will have this baby and will do take care of them on my own. I want to raise him to be a better person but never like you.”

“Y/N, you are crossing your limits.”

“Am I? And what are you doing? Running away from the responsibility and turning your back when we are ready to take a step further to our relationship.”

“Responsibility? Y/N, we can think of this another time.”

“Mingi. When you didn’t want this then why you gave me false hope and prepared my mind to accept this baby?”

You were breaking down and falling apart into thousands of pieces. The lovely and healthy relationship between you both was fading away and you didn’t know how to keep it in place anymore.

“Y/N, calm down. These are just feelings and you are overwhelmed knowing about this sudden news last month. All these will fade away.”

Calm down? Feelings will fade away? These all are his thoughts for me right now? All the promises, love talks, future plannings, bonding, everything seems fake to you now. His smile, laugh shared with you, adorable gestures to you, they all seem like just an act to you. So, he just wanted you to be his wife in this mafia world to have a high position? He didn’t care you as his love and never wanted to have a baby who can be a burden to him.

“Sure. If you don’t want any of these then fine, I’m leaving you here on your own and never try to find me.”

At this point, hot tears streaming down your eyes, your hands messily tugging the loose hair strands behind the ears. You took some steps back and ran to the bedroom. You grabbed some nearby clothes and some important things and put them in the bag and came out of the room. Seeing you, Mingi thrashed away all the things from the shelf where he was leaning. The action made a loud sound followed by shattering pieces of the fibres scattered all around the floor just like your heart was breaking with each word. You flinched and your hands trembled.

“You are leaving me? Are you serious?”

His eyes were furious and his breathing was heavy and he was contemplating the whole situation. You were standing near the stairs, gripped the stair railing for your support and watching him. The one who being a mafia never showed you his beast side in any situation is now a raging one who could burn you alive right now.

“Yes. I’m sure that leaving you here will be the good decision and have my own life far away from you.”

“If you really think that everything is so easy out there then just go. Leave me.”

He didn’t stop you as if he was waiting for you to leave fast and never want to look at you again.

“You made me dreamt of forever but this is our ending. I don’t want to regret leaving you but I want you to regret every second until you realize your fault.”

And with that, you left him. Standing in the middle of the living room, furiously watching you disappearing behind the door, from where you were never going to come back.

“Aw my Mingyu. Don’t cry baby, mommy is here.” You were trying to put him to sleep for past thirty minutes but no matter what, he was kept crying and you were so tired because last day you had a stressful night and didn’t get enough sleep and despite your head was paining, you put on a smile on your face and trying to make him sleep.

But your smile was like a dam, hiding the flood of sadness.

You heard a faint knock. You waited silently to see if you misheard it or someone was on the other side of the door. You don’t have any visitor at this hour. If anyone, it would be either Miyeon to ask you whether you need something, she was a life savior when you came to her crying that day alone. Or it could have been maybe worse for you. Or it would be another person at your door, Renjun. He is always there to support you and help you like a sweet and caring best-friend. He comes at your place to play with your baby.

The doorbell broke your trance and your startling made the baby cry even more. Cradling the baby in your tender arms. You reached the door to open it. You knew the neighbour-hood was very safe so its better to live there alone and safe.

But as soon as you opened the door, you felt as if your world stopped, every sound deaf to your ears, everything hushed and still. The person standing in front of you was the one for whom you had cried everyday but never for once you wanted to see. You wanted to give up on your baby to get your husband back but also stepped back with the thought of raising the baby.

“Y/n….”

He almost whispered out your name. His eyes lingered over your face to recognise you, if you were the person whom he kicked out from the house. Yes. You were and standing in front of him. What does he want now? His teary gaze moved down to your baby, who was silent but still restless in your arms. Tears flowing down your eyes hearing his voice. You were watching him, only him and he was watching your baby, his baby.

“Is he…is he my son?”

My son? Did you hear right? He asked you about the baby. He was crying while watching the baby. His shaky hands raised up to touch the baby but you stepped back, leaving his hand raised. His fingers curled into a fist. He finally looked up to you.

“Please…” He was begging to you. But for what?

“Why are you…here?” Finally, you spoke. His heart ached hearing your voice after ten months. How madly he wished to hear your sweet and loving voice. You were right that he would regret every second but did you regret anything?

Yes and No. But maybe a lot of things.

“How…How are you?” He sniffed and gulped the lump down his throat. His throat was tight, not able to form any words but still he wanted to say so many things. “I mean…Both of you…How are you?”

“You don’t have to know about us. You can leave. I don’t know how come you know about this place, even when I’m in a different country but I suppose your mafia business made it possible. Neither me nor my son needs you. Leave.”

You had that same harshness like he had at the day you gave him the news of pregnancy.

“Please…I-I don’t want to go away…Please I want to…”

“You want to?...” You wanted to look strong, to shove him away. Your mind telling you to shut the door but somewhere your heart was aching to see him, telling you to hug him, hold him tight and cry the anger and loneliness out.

“I want to ask you to forgive me, Y/n. I know it’s a difficult thing for you. You can’t forgive me so easily. But please listen to me, please.”

You remain silent for few moments. The baby had fallen asleep.

You gestured him to come inside and close the door. You didn’t want your neighbours to hear the commotion at your front door. You sat on the sofa while he remained standing nearing the chair across from you. He glanced at you and his son.

“I'm sorry...I...I was scared, Y/N. I was always scared for you being in my merciless life. You are always my first priority and most important responsibility. I love you so much. I never wanted to cause any sort of little harm to you but when….when I got the news of your pregnancy, I got more scared. I thought how to welcome a new member and take more responsibility when I am always worried for you? I didn’t want to lose you again.”

You sighed. Your last kidnapping was something that triggers him everyday.

“Y/n…I didn’t mean…I don’t want the baby but I was scared. I was scared how to protect him and you from this world. Everyone out there would cause harm to someone innocent like you. And he is a little one. I haven’t had anyone so soft in my life except you. And I didn’t want him to come into this life where he would feel unsafe.”

He thought that you were unsafe in that outside world. He was scared someone again would take you away from him. Someone would again cause you harm. Someone would scare you. Moreover, someone would harm his child. He didn’t mean to not have the child but he was scared because he didn’t know how to protect you both.

You patted the space beside you. He hesitated but your assuring eyes led his slow steps to make him sit beside you. His hopeful eyes stared back at you as you looked at him with a broken soul. Your eyes were speaking how happy you were with your son but somewhere they were not shining because the sadness was over-shadowing it.

You shifted a bit forward to hold his wrist and squeezed it in assurance that you were listening to him. You held your baby towards him and he slowly took the sleeping little one in his hold. Tears falling down his eyes and a tear drop fell on the baby’s cheek who was warmly wrapped in a blue towel cloth. No one would believe him as a mafia member who was crying helplessly in a casual grey and black t-shirt and pants with a sleeping infant in his hand.

“Are you still scared?”

“No. That day when you left me, I will never forgive myself for that...I have made up my mind. I was wrong. I should have listened to you. I should have thought about it but I kicked you out when you needed me the most.”

Yes you needed him the most but you still need him.

He was staring straight to you, “I thought about expanding our family everyday. To have a beautiful family with our children but the news seems like so sudden and early to make any decision. My messy head did not think that how much you will be hurt. I will never forgive myself for hurting you. I proved to be a bad husband and a bad father.”

“No Mingi, listen. You are going to be a great father. You are going to protect him and he is so lucky to have you. You were worried and scared and that’s why you ran away. You are a mafia member and you only know to handle every situation aggressively and that’s why you went far away from me because you did not want to hurt me. You were scared of yourself.”

“You are not angry or upset with me?”

“Hmm. I am upset. I am angry too. I was having so many emotions going through all these months but they didn’t fade away. They became strong with the time. Whenever I was alone, I felt scared but the next moment I felt nothing because I kept telling myself that no one will be there to make me feel safe. I was angry with you leaving me without hearing my side, without looking back at me to see how helpless I was. I was upset that my decision to keep this baby had broken us apart. I was upset that the reason I was crying and you being angry with me was all because of me. Because of this baby.”

Mingi hugged the baby to his chest and crying continuously. His ears and cheeks turning red to the effect and you caressed his head.

You both were scared and were weak in making a proper decision on this life note. If only you both have spoken with each other properly then today you would have been happily enjoying the moment.

“I’m sorry baby. I’m sorry to leave you and your mother that day. Please forgive me. I don’t deserve you but I want you. I need you to be in my life.”

“We deserve many things. We don’t know what we deserve and not but giving chances is a thing to see whether the outcome would be better or not. If we ever get a second chance, we should respect it to prove our previous self wrong, that we need to be better to improve things, to improve the love. The love between us.”

You smiled at him. How he missed that smile and he sadly smiled back at you.

“Now, if the baby wakes up to see his father crying like this. You are going to put him back to sleep. I see why he is such a crybaby.”

Realization hits him and he laughs out aloud with still teary eyes. You laugh along with him.

“I will protect you baby and this little one forever and now I have made up my mind that no matter how scared I will be for both of you. I’m not leaving again. I will fight the danger with keeping you both safe with me.”

“And I will always be standing strong by your side. And Mingi...I want our son to become like you. A caring and loving person.”

"No...I want him to be a perfect human being like you." You smiled at his words.

His hand caressed your cheek and leaned forward to kiss your lips. The kiss had love, loneliness, forgiveness, missing of each other. But mostly, the essence of the beginning of a new life. The baby was sleeping soundly. Those eyes and lips were totally like his father.

“He looks like you, Mingi. I missed you every day whenever I looked at him”

You both looked down to the angel in his hands. The baby he never wanted and told you to have an abortion. He was holding the baby in his hand, firmly gripping as if the baby would disappear, if he ever softens the grip.

He kissed the baby on the forehead and whispered, “I’m sorry…” and turned towards you, “What’s his name?”

“Mingyu.”

“You will be a great mother and he is so lucky to have you as his guardian. I missed some beautiful stages of our life, of our family but I don’t want to miss the days that are coming.”

“He is lucky to have both of us. He will have a wonderful life ahead.”

The baby is a blessing in both of your life and marks the beginning of the new stage of life on a happy note.

“Let’s Begin Again.” He whispered before pressing his lips again with yours.
