Finally got to fire the Mississippi rifle. She's a dirty bitch but a smooth shooter. .58 cal patched roundball and 70 grains of powder. Lovely rifle.
Heres where it gets really interesting. The hammer was knocked back and the cap blown off but the hammer resets. I thought there was a lot of smoke suddenly in my face. That all happened so fast you'd never see it without slowmo. I think because I was holding the trigger the hammer went back down.
A very fun trip to Fort George this summer to see the 1812 reenactment. As I get older the camp life stuff and work in the kitchen becomes a lot more interesting than just the drill and soldiering (still fun). Met lots of great people and learned a lot of cool stuff.
The IRL Doom Whomper (25mm musket), being fired. Uses a 1260 grain (82 gram) projectile. We don't know actual muzzle velocity, but considering the character who built it in the books is said to use it with maximum powder loads, and the barrel is rated for smokeless powder...
