#My sweet beautiful Chimney

It didn't happen with Ramon so I'm just going to put it out there: I hope Chimney's dad is dying. There is something so deliciously brutal and untouched about needing to reconcile with parental abuse/abandonment when all the time you thought you had suddenly slips through your fingers. Chimney has been through a lot over the years. Buck's not the only one who never had a parent keeping vigil at his hospital bedside. In Season 1, when he was impaled, Bobby made it very clear that the 118 is Chim's family — and they are. But at the same time... Chimney has lost his partner. He's been stabbed. He died. And he has grinned and pushed through it all the while, but there is something about a father that just... takes who you are and who you want to be and just... decimates it completely. I hope we're getting a full fledged breakdown, but even if we don't, I need to see him look his father, his partner, his brother, or even himself in the eye and release himself from the grief of being a son to a man who never loved him. He deserves that much, at least

One of the reasons why I've always thought that pairing up Eddie or Buck with a brand new character who's only brought in as a love interest will simply not work, is the fact that the rest of the mains are all paired up with other mains.
Bobby and Athena. Maddie and Chimney. Karen is the only wife who's not a real main herself, but her character and her and Hen's relationship are both so fleshed out and beautiful that she still feels like a main.
This is the main reason why, in my opinion, it's always going to feel so incredibly lacking to try and pair up Eddie and Buck with random new people. When we're so used to knowing and loving both parties in a romantic relationship on this show. It's one of the many reasons why I feel like endgame romantic Buddie is the only thing that's going to feel fair to their characters.
Which leads me to the genious choice of Tommy being brought back to be Buck's new love interest. Tommy, who's already an established character in this universe. Tommy, who's already got history with members of the 118 that aren't Buck. Who was insinuated to be a closeted gay long before he was gonna be Buck's bisexual awakening. Who said he thought Kirsten Stewart was too broody way before the show decided to pair him up with someone as sweet and bright as Buck.
And even now that he is a love interest, he still gets to keep a personality of his own. He still gets to be a little reserved when meeting up Buck for coffee at the end of the episode, hesitant to say yes to another date, because he's allowed to look after his own heart and not wanting to be hurt by someone who might still be in the closet, unlike himself. Like that is such a real and fair choice to make for yourself as a queer person, and I'm so happy they let him be all that.
I still think endgame Buddie is the thing that'll make the most sense for this show and its characters. But, my god, is it hard to be anything but fucking thrilled about having Tommy around right now.

Buck twirls you around, strong arms circling your waist. Your feet don't touch the ground as he spins you, the skirt of your dress billowing in the breeze. You lean back in his hold, and catch sight of Eddie throwing Christopher up in the air, both of them laughing.
Buck puts you down and grins at you, Cheshire cat smile bright and blinding. You smooth your hands across his chest, flattening out his crisp white dress shirt where you've crinkled it. You tug at his bow tie, straightening it gently. Your gaze meets his, and you beam at him.
"Have I told you how handsome you look tonight, Evan Buckley?" you tease, wrapping your arms around his neck to sway with him. There's a smooth, jazzy melody echoing through the huge backyard, illuminated by golden, twinkling lights.
He quirks a brow at you cheekily before answering.
"I wouldn't mind hearing it again."
"I'm sure you wouldn't," you laugh, shrieking as he dips you backwards quickly.
"Well, you look very handsome. I like you in a tux."
You swear you see him blush slightly, heat creeping across his cheeks. He finds his confidence again, sliding his hands across the exposed skin of your back slowly.
"You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen," he tells you sincerely, eyes never leaving yours. "I should tell you that more often."
"Yes, you should," you tease, grinning at him.
You take notice of his smile, his relaxed shoulders, the way he's swaying with you effortlessly.
"You love weddings, don't you?"
"Hell yeah I do!" he replies delightedly. "Everyone I love all in one place, dancing, music... what more could you want?"
You can't wipe the smile off your face. He's right. The entire 118 is here, together as a family. Everyone is happy, excited to be celebrating Bobby and Athena's vow renewal. It's not often you all get to leave work at work and enjoy yourselves completely. You plan to make the most of every single second.
You feel two warm hands find your hips from behind, instantly leaning back into the broad chest behind you, knowing who it is immediately.
"Hola, Mr Diaz."
"Hola, hermosa."
"You gonna keep her all to yourself all night, Buckley?" he asks, wrapping his arms around you, over the top of where Bucks are already resting. You're sandwiched between the two of them, completely content.
"We were avoiding you and your terrible dance moves," Buck jokes, the three of you swaying together now.
"Are you hearing this?" Eddie asks incredulously, chuckling into your ear. "My terrible dance moves?"
"Don't listen to him, Eds. His ego lies to him."
"It's called confidence! Sorry if I have faith in my dance moves!"
The three of you laugh, bodies and souls tangled and intertwined on the dance floor.
Across the backyard, Chimney and Hen are sat at their table, watching you, Buck and Eddie move to the music, arms wrapped around one another.
"They really love each other, don't they?"
"Oh, yeah," Hen laughs. "Wish they'd all just admit it."
Chimney looks at his best friend in confusion, brows quirked and face crumpled.
"... What?"
"Oh, come on, Chim," Hen chuckles. "It's twenty twenty three. Get with the program."
"You mean, like, love love," Chim confirms, still puzzled.
"Yes, Howie. Love love. In love. The three of them are completely in love."
Chimney processes for a moment, before a light bulb goes off in his head.
"Oh, shit!" he laughs. "They totally are!"
"Damn, men are oblivious. How am I the only one that's noticed?"
"You aren't," Bobby and Athena say in unison, pulling out chairs to sit at the table.
"But we can't rush them. Good things like this take time," Athena offers.
Bobby glances over at the dance floor. You're holding Buck and Eddie's hands, and Chris is too, the four of you dancing and laughing. He smiles for moment, before speaking.
"You know they basically live together?"
When he's met with confused faces, he continues.
"They all crash at Eddie's place with Christopher so often, they've practically moved in. Buck hasn't slept in his own apartment in months."
"I mean, how do you even... navigate something like that? The three of them? It's so complicated," Chimney asks genuinely.
"They'll figure it out," Bobby assures. "They always do."
With that, he rises from his chair and across the yard. He scoops Christopher up into his arms, promising him cake and soda, much to Eddie's dismay. He winks at Buck before carrying Chris away, leaving the three of you alone.
Eddie surprises you by grabbing your hand and then Bucks, pulling you both away from the crowd.
"Come on. I wanna show you something."
He leads you up and into the guest bathroom of the house, rolling his eyes at you and Bucks suggestive comments. He's first to climb out the window and onto the roof, making sure you get through safely in your dress.
The three of you sit and watch your friends in the yard below, quietly reflecting. You're suddenly aware of the way you're sandwiched in between them again, thighs pressed together. You lean left and rest your head on Eddie's shoulder, interlinking your right hand with Bucks.
"How lucky am I?" you breathe. "To be surrounded by so much love."
Eddie rests his head atop of yours, smiling as he watches Buck lean in to rest his on your shoulder. The three of you exhale.
"We're the lucky ones," Buck murmurs. "I never thought I'd have this."
"Well you do," Eddie reassures. "And we're not going anywhere, Buckley."
"He's right, Buck. We're not going anywhere. Ever."
Evan sits up to kiss you on the cheek, before leaning over you and doing the same to Eddie.
The three of you sit on the roof, bodies and souls intertwined, illuminated by the moonlight. How lucky you are, to be surrounded by so much love.

"Oh come on." Eddie whined playfully. A smirk tugged his lips as his hands danced around your waist. His chin rested on top of your shoulder as he peppered your neck in soft short kisses.
It was a beautiful summer evening and to celebrate the warm weather Maddie and Chimney invited everyone over for drinks and BBQ. The atmosphere was peaceful and everyone felt so relaxed. Kids ran around the yard as adults indulged in laughter and conversation. Moments like these you cherished with all your heart.
You noticed Eddie's eyes on you from across the table as you helped Jee-Yun with cutting up her food. Your smile unintentionally grew wider with every laugh and babble she blurted out to you.
After dinner, while everyone was still chatting away but the sun disappeared more and more in darkness, the garden was lit by beautiful garden lights and candles. Jee-Yun's head rested against your chest as you indulged further in conversation. Her eyelids became heavier as she tightly grabbed the plushie you gifted her earlier closer to her body. As you were chatting with your friends you looked up at Eddie who was talking with Buck and Chimney. He paid no mind to their conversation, only having eyes on you. He took a chug from his beer before giving you a soft smile. He was standing next to the fire pit, the sparks made his eyes shimmer.
All these years you convinced yourself and others you were terrible with kids. But now you felt caught, by your own actions, as the toddler on your lap softly snored away.
As the evening continued and it was getting more late, children were safely tucked away in bed and everyone snuggled closer to the warmth of the fire pit with beers in hand, you and Eddie managed to escape the coziness just for a second. You found each other in the kitchen, getting more drinks to continue the party outside.
As soon as you entered the dimly lit house his hands were all over you. You were both pretty drunk and you knew Eddie long enough to know he could get very touchy when intoxicated. And that's what brought you here. To this moment and conversation.
"Eddie, we talked about this." You giggled as his stubble tickled your neck. "I'm not good with kids."
"Come on baby, we both know that's a lie." He said, slightly tilting his head to prove his point. His hand still rested on your hip as the other one traced his fingers over your jaw. "You are honestly, and I mean honestly," He cupped your face, gently tilting your head so you could look at him. "One of the most beautiful and kindest people I have ever met. And I am sure that every kid will agree." Eddie smiled softly, his eyes filled with love as he looked at you.
Your eyes felt glossy after his words. No one has ever shown you so much love as him. You closed your eyes before taking a deep breath, a loving smile appearing on your lips. "I really love you Diaz, you know that right?"
"Hmh, I had a suspicion." He joked before pulling you in for a kiss.
My requests are open! :)

Acres of land as far as the eye can see was before you. Majestic and overwhelming but it was now yours. Inherited from your late father, Edward, you had no choice but to return home to his prize. The ranch he loved second ONLY to you, too precious for you to just sell.
Patches of woods and forests littered with game even open fields for horses to run wild until tamed. There was a beautiful garden that stretched around the ranch, a pond with a family of ducks. A river with a strong current that only the toughest even dare swim in, flowing just along the ranch’s right side.
The terrain was intense but luckily your father made sure he left you with a great team to help you out.

It was a bitterly cold and snowy day. The frigid temperatures had been persistent for days, and there was no sign of relief in sight. December had just begun, but it already felt like an endless winter. While the snowflakes were beautiful as they fell to the ground, they brought a feeling of sadness and loneliness.
You loved the hot chocolates you would make for yourself in the small kitchen, you loved bundling up in a soft blanket on the sofa and watching anothe movie. You loved the seasonal Christmas themed ads that were blaring at this time of the year from every corner.
Yes, you loved Christmas, you stopped to remind yourself. Of course you did. Yet still, there was this deep nagging. A feeling of desire, that carried sadness.
'It's snowing like the world is about to end' you thought as you looked from the window that tightly sealed. There wasn't much to look at, even thought the afternoon was only just ending, through the strong snowstorm there was hardly anything visible.
You didn't watch the final race of the snowflakes for much longer. Standing up from your wooden floor you made your way to your apartment door - or more so tried to. Your pillows, blankets, old books and canvases were scattered all around so it proved to be bit of a challenge.
Your room was a mess, it has been like that for far too long. Old newspaper cutouts glued on the walls, posters, painting without frames hung up or just pushed in the corner of the room, where shadows hid them well. There wasn't enough space for them all. Books stacked up in tall chimneys, your phone somewhere burried in-between. You didn't bother to look for it too much.
Lacing up your boots, you took a last look in the mirror. As an omega it was always expected of you to look proper and taken cared of, even if it wasn't always the case. Your heavy jacket felt too heavy on your shoulders, but you knew that you would quite literally freeze to death otherwise. A white woolen scarf was tied around your neck, covering your face up to your nose. It felt comfortable against your cheeks and the scent was also pleasant, so even as it grew older, you still kept it and worn it every winter.
You grabbed your wallet, and pocketed your keys. The small bunny keychain dangled with the movement. It used to be white with few brown spots, but that wore of with the time too. Still, even if most of the colour was missing, you liked it.
With the lock clicking behind you, you started walking down the open hallway to the apartment building entrance. The rooms were only on one side, so it didn't take much time until the cold air swept you from the right. The layer of snow on the wooden railing has grown to over 10 centimetres, and that was only from this day, since it got swept pretty much every morning. The landlord was quite sweet, as allowing an omega a home when they were alone with no alpha or beta in sight wasn't too usual.
Hiding more into your jacket you quickened your pace, and after getting down the steps, you started the walk towards the pharmacy.
Snowflakes fell into your hair, as you made your way down the few streets and roads. Luckily, not many people were outside and so your smell wasn't noticed. It really wasn't too typical to see omegas walking on their own, basically anywhere. The society had strict standards that were followed since,- well, forever.
While some protested, it was just always for the better, anyone to see an omega that's completely alone, unmarked or at least scented was basically free to do anything they wished to.
It made you tremble just the slightest bit thinking about it, but you blamed it on the cold that surrounded you and shook it off. While you were on the outskirts of Seoul, it wasn't like you were constantly alone.
Yes, you reminded yourself once more. There were people around, like that nice looking lady down the street holding a hand of a little girl. She jumped and squeeled in the heavy snow, only to get lightly scolded by the beta for almost slipping in the forming ice. Pups were always the biggest priority, at least in every good pack.
As you walked further and further from your home, more stores appeared, lighting up the streets just enough for you to be more comfortable. The neon sings of restaurants, grocery shops, clothing boutiques and more were bright for your eyes, colourful and soon you started hearing bit more noise too. There were more cars passing by, people smoking cigarettes outside on the streets chatting together.
With the snow crunching underneath your feet you made your way to the mall closest to your apartment. You dusted of as much of the snow from yourself as possible, and walked inside. It felt a lot warmer immediately, but you didn't unzip your jacket too much. You knew your scent would carry too much and people would eventually notice, so you just continued on your way down the escalator, keeping to yourself with the crowd of people going downstairs with you.
Infront of you was another grocery store, that got you thinking about buying some food. The snowstorms often lasted a few days, and you doubted that it would be pleasant to walk here again tomorrow. You didn't have a lot home right now, as you avoided going until it was impossible. Plus the store here was a lot cheaper than the small shops closer to your apartment, that made a big profit from all the-
Your thoughts were interrupted by the loud sniffing behind you, something just lightly touching the back of your neck. Startled, you quickly turned, and nearly jumped from your skin. The man must have been in his forties, his eyes closed for a tiny second, before they opened and focused on your face. You averted your gaze, not wanting to seem like you wanted to start anything.
„What are you doing here alone like this?” his tone sounded concerned, but carried a weird undertone, that unsettled you even more. You felt chills run down your spine. You opened your mouth to answer, but your eyes could only widen more, as the last step lowered and you arrived at the floor. Stumbling, you regained your balance and nearly ran off in the way of the pharmacy.
Opening the door, a light bell sound chimed throughout the store, making few of the people in the queue turn to check the newcomer. Looking at your shoes, you shuffled to stand behind the last girl, her natural smell covered in a strong but very sweet perfume scent blockers. Growing up, in high schools, those were always popular for beta or even alphas to wear, to make themselves appear more approachable if their scent wasn't intriguing enough for their liking.
Such perfumes didn't work on omega scents, those were always naturally alluring and hard to cover. Scent blockers were then often used, but since you didn't go out a lot back in highschool, you hardly ever had to use them. You would, now being in college you were constantly around unknown people, so it would come with a nice benefit - sometimes all of the attention that came with being an omega wasn't nice at all. But those were expensive, and the even cheapest ones were bit too pricey for you. Plus the ones you ever tried always made you uncomfortable, and unsettled with how chemically they smelled.
The wet shoeprints with slight mud covered the tiled floors, as you patiently waited for your turn to receive your prescription. And so as the girl before you took the small bottle of medicine, thanked and made her way out again, you took the small paper from your wallet.
„Hi, what can I do for you?” asked the older man behind the counter. His hair was gray and his eyes seemed tired. With the winter season, there must be many people coming with bad colds.
„Hello,” you mumbled looking behind him at the shelves filled with medicaments, „I have a prescription of a medication from my doctor;” he leaned in closer to hear you better. Your voice was naturally just a bit too quiet. Placing the paper onto the sleek counter, you looked away as he nodded and opened it. Taking just a few seconds to read over its contents he bristled to the shelves, pulling out a brown bottle with a white cap.
„...Right here miss. I will just need you to sign a document, that states that your pack alpha is aware of this and agreed to your doctor decision.” smiling, his cheeks lifted as he took a paper from underneath the desk.
You blinked in a surprise, and felt your fingers start to slightly tremble. 'Since when was this a thing? You got your medicine just fine month or two ago, what --?'
„My pack alpha- I-”
He looked back at me after retrieving a pen with calm eyes.
„Yes miss, here... You just fill in your pack alpha's name, and your pack serial number, or if you can't remember the whole thing, you can just write your pack alpha's phone number, we can get in touch later and I will complete the form process with them. You don't have to worry about it at all.” Once again, the worker smiled brightly, seemingly trying to calm you down.
„I know the number is hard to remember, my daughters always forget it too.” lightly chuckling, you could smell just the lightest hint of calming pheromones in the air. Scrunching up the nose at the smell, your anxiety only risen.
If you won't get the medicine you will get in a lot of trouble, and miss even more college lessons, no, you can't miss anymore, and-
„umm- can.. can I just call them first? I'm not so sure-” your voice trembled just the slightest bit as you squeezed your fingers around the prescription. The man once again laughed and nodded his head.
„Of course you can! It's no issue. Just come back again with the prescription and we can go over this again miss.” Nodding slightly, stunned still, just turned on your heel and walked off, the ground slippery with the melted snow, making you almost slip a few times. You eyes clouded with tears and you sniffled loudly as you opened the pharmacy door. Defeated, you clutched your other hand in a tight grip, unsettled and confused. You could bet that your anxious scent was wafting off all over the place.
Your vision blurry, you started heading back towards the escalators, walking next to a shoe boutique and a barber shop, you reminded yourself of the way outside. Your plans were definitely different from this, and getting lost in a mall was also not included on the list so you tried your best way to walk where you remembered the right side entrance to be. With most of the people left by now, the 21nth hour was quickly approaching, and a many of trail scents left behind confused you even more.
More tears sprung up to your eyes, and your vision got even blurrier. Not having any scents to stick to, as the ones that were around when you walked to the pharmacy were exchanged for different ones, you were left in a sensory overload, not even noticing when a man bristly walked towards you.
„Hey.., hey, what's going on? What's wrong?” He bended to your eye level so you stood face to face. A white facemask was covering his face, so only his eye peeked through under his dark, long hair. A plain black newsboy cap matched with the long, thick coat that went bellow his bended knees. You looked away, just when your overwhelmed nose smelled that he was an alpha. A mixture of rain and a hint of levander that seemed to become more prominent every passing second. He was trying to calm you with his scent.
A small whimper broke out from your throat unwillingly. Your brain was just taking in bit too much for you to be able to process everything. Your scarf dampen with more tears falling onto it. The man hand quickly held your right arm, his other hand prying your fingers open, so you couldn't clutch your hands and accidently scratched yourself. He cooed at you and rubbed your arm while still holding your hand, squeezing just the smallest bit.
„...Hm? What is it?”
Looking up, you accidentally made eye contact, only to get yourself more stressed out. You were always taught to beware of any unknown people, especially alphas, and making an eye contact could be interpreted as a 'sure, let's get it on'.
His concerned eyes shocked you enough to stay like that for a bit longer. They were a lot cat like, and his eyebrows were furrowed, but not in a threatening way, no, it was worry.
„I was- was at the phar-macy..” you mumbled only to sob loudly, and your shoulders to start to shake. You looked at his facemask, trying to focus anywhere but at the alpha's eyes. Noticing you doing so, in a quick motion he pulled the mask bellow his chin, only to reveal a soft looking nose and full lips, left open just the slightest bit in focus.
His tongue darted out to lick them fastly, and he shuffled a bit closer, so the levander scent was even more prominent. „At the pharmacy? Did someone tell you something bad there? Do you not have enough money for your medicine?” His voice felt calming, but held a feeling of urgency in it. He stood back up, only to look behind you towards the store you came from just about two minutes ago.
„N-No.. that's not - it... My prescrb- prescrt-” stumbling over the word you whined softly, angry with yourself. This was really not what you needed to happen right now.
„Prescription kitty. What's with it? Had it already expired?” once again he lowered himself back down, but didn't let go of your hand and arm even once. Softly rubbing his thumb over your hand, he once again cooed at you.
„Need pack al-pha...” you cried out softly and looked at the floors. Frowning even deeper, he let go of your arm and pulled out his phone from his pocket. His other hand just pulled you a little closer, so his scent was even clearer.
The man fumbled with it for a few seconds, pressed it to his ear and waited, as the faint sound of ringing could be heard. A soft beep sound and another strangers voice went through, not loud enough for you to decipher.
„hey, where are you?”
„No, listen, I need you to come to the lowest floor, um- there is a,” whipping his head around he looked at the stores around us, „hairdresser shop here and uhh.. a pharmacy too, look just can you hurry please?”
„Ill tell you here, it's an omega .... Jimin-ah are you a fucking idiot?! Who said anything about heat? Aish..! Just hurry up, could you?”
For a second his scent got covered with a burning grass, a smell of agitation. Just as quickly as it came it was gone thought. Pocketing his phone once again, he looked back at you.
„My packmate is going to come here in a bit okay?” his voice once again soft.
„P-Packmate?” your eyes blew wide, only for more tears to come. What did that mean? Was they about to do something? Your worried thoughts circled your mind.
„Yea, but don't worry, okay? He's very-”
„Yah, hyung, what is it? What's going on?” you heard another man, only to be hit with another alpha scent, reminding you of soft vanilla blooms. „Gosh her scent is sweet..” he said lowly, so you hardly understood what he was saying. Looking up, you were met with eyes of another man. This time, circled rimmed glasses and a black face mask pretty much covered his whole face, only a small bit of his black hair peeking through underneath his dark grey beanie. A long, dark green trenchcoat with a crossbody purse like bag adored his body, making his shoulders stand out.
„I don't know...”
„Whats your name 'mega?” the newcomer asked, bending slightly to match your height too.
„..Y/N” you said as you looked away again. All of the scents were confusing you, and you shuffled at your feet. You could sense your flight or fight instincts start to come in, with how long you have been unsettled.
„..okay. Okay.” he sighed out. „My name is Yoongi, and that's Jimin. Kitty, where is your pack? Why are you here alone like this?”
You took a longer pause, too overwhelmed to answer quickly. It must have been bit too long for them thought.
„Hyung-”
„I don't ha-ve a p-pack..” sniffling, you avoided their gaze, hiding more into the scarf.
„..Well shit.” Jimin muttered, exchanging anxious looks with Yoongi.

Wisteria and Ciabatta
Tumblr media
Summary: Traveling merchant Suguru has led a relatively tame life thus far. Growing his flowers, baking his bread. One day, when he ventures out further than normal he comes across something more beautiful than all the flowers in the world. You.
A/N: I'm not really sure where this came from. I don't expect it to get a huge reaction, just because it's like way niche. But I couldn't get this out of my head. I am like pretty certain there will be a part two with smut, but this first chapter is just very sweet. This chapter can be read alone, you won't need to read the next one if you don't want to. Suguru is a loserboy in this but I like him that way. Enjoy!
CW: SFW, food, fluff
W/C: 5,608
The forest was quieter than usual today, he couldn’t help but notice. Suguru had become well acquainted with the sounds of the forest over the years. He traversed them for work often, always traveling from town to town to sell his flowers and bread. Flowers from his own backyard, and bread made to perfection from his own two hands. He enjoyed the way people's faces lit up when they saw the beautiful flora or when the food passed their lips. Suguru had to go out of his way today, venturing out further than normal. He didn’t sell as much as he wanted to in the towns near his home, so he figured he may as well see if anyone else would be interested.
Lavender, Hydrangea, Yarrow.
Suguru ran the list through his mind repeatedly. The basket he carried beside him held heaps of flowers, all trimmed to perfection. Along with the flowers he had several loaves of bread.
Dutch, Rye, French.
His footsteps slow when he notices a cluster of homes come into view. It was a small town, one he had never been to before. There couldn’t have been more than 50 buildings, but they were all full evident by the smoke rising from each chimney. His feet fall onto the stone path as he makes his way to the first house. When he knocks, he plasters a smile on his face. He had danced this routine many times before, always donning a careful mask when interacting with potential customers.
“Hello?” An old man opens the door carefully. He must have been twice as short as Suguru.
“Hello, I’m selling flowers and bread. Would you be interested in buying any?”
The man opens his mouth to decline when a woman’s voice sounds out behind him.
“Who is that?”
She hobbles into view, situating herself beside what Suguru can only assume is her husband.
“This fellow is selling flowers and bread, I was just going to-“
“You never buy me flowers anymore!”
Suguru averts his gaze, training them on the floor below. He doesn’t mind being there while they argue, but he’s learned that an unwanted ear can make people uncomfortable.
The old man grumbles before walking away further into the house to grab his money. Suguru can feel her eyes wandering over him. He digs his hand into his basket and produces a Hydrangea.
“On the house.” He speaks quietly, winking at her.
Her face flushes as she takes the flower, admiring the color. Her husband comes back and counts his cash before handing it to Suguru who doesn’t bother counting it. He grabs a heap of flowers, all three types tossed in, before handing them to the man.
“Thank you, sir.” Suguru smiles before stepping back, watching him give the flowers to his wife.
An adorable moment by nature. It almost feels too vulnerable to see the look of love on the old woman’s face as she receives the gift.
Suguru continues on to the next house, selling flowers and bread as he goes. He went to every house in town until there was only one remaining.
He walks up to the dwelling, knocking on the door and waits patiently for whoever’s living there.
The door opens, your body standing there.
If you asked Suguru a day ago what he thought the most beautiful thing was he would say a dicentra or maybe even tulips. That was before he saw you. Your cheeks like petals, soft and plump. You also had eyes that shined brighter than the early morning dew that clung to his garden. You were magnificent. You were the most beautiful flower he had ever seen.
“Hello?”
Suguru never found himself speechless. Throughout his life he had found himself in a multitude of situations that would warrant it, but he wasn’t, not even once. He had trained himself on how to smile and talk to people, he prided himself on it. No one was too hard to talk to.
Until he met you.
His lips refused to cooperate with him, throat muddled up. You look up at him expectantly, waiting for him to say something.
“I’m selling homemade bread and flowers.”
Idiot.
That’s what he decided to say? Not even a proper hello first?
“Oh, lovely. I was hoping to make something for dinner but didn’t have anything around the house. How much for the bread?” You ask, digging in your pocket for money.
Suguru tears his eyes from you, a painful task, and opens his basket. Most of his inventory was gone. He did have a loaf of Dutch bread at the bottom of the basket, the sight of it mocking him. He couldn’t give you that. It was no longer fresh, and it was cold to the touch. He couldn’t give you it.
You pull out your hand, palm cupped with money.
“I’m out of bread.” He finds himself saying.
Your brow raises. A beat passes before you speak.
“Okay, what about flowers?”
He wordlessly thanks your graciousness. In his basket he finds two Yarrows. All of his flowers were beautiful, but he found himself cursing God for not making anything more beautiful.
Suguru holds them up to you, fighting back a whimper when your hand grazes him as you pluck the stems from his grasp.
“How much?”
“You don’t have to pay.”
He would never force you to pay for anything, especially not something that could never rival your beauty.
He watches your lips slowly morph into a smile.
“You’re an interesting merchant.”
He’s sure you’re making fun of him, but he doesn’t care. His cheeks feel hot as he looks into your eyes.
“I was planning on visiting this village again tomorrow, I will bring more bread then.”
He wasn’t planning on visiting this village again until now. It had been a random stop he never was going to make again.
Your eyes flit down to the Yarrow, admiring them.
“You know where to find me.”
~~~
Suguru’s feet hurt when he finally arrives back home. He wants to go to bed but he can’t. Not when he needs to make bread for you. Usually he had extra dough laying around, but he didn’t. Even if he did, he would’ve preferred to make it fresh. He works tirelessly as he prepares the dough, pouring all his love into it. Flour cakes under his fingernails, his palms hurting from kneading the dough for so long.
He wouldn’t dream of complaining. Not when he knew who this was for. He didn’t even catch your name. Once he knew it, he would spell it in the stars so everyone did too.
Suguru barely gets any sleep. It was a concoction of baking and nerves. His house smells like bread while he walks around, preparing for his long journey ahead. He searched in his kitchen before finding a small jar of homemade strawberry jam. One of his neighbors, a kind elderly widow, had made it for him. They often traded breads and jams, occasionally sharing them outside when the weather was right.
Once everything was ready, he placed it all in his basket before setting off into the forest again.
The walk was way faster than he remembered it being. His mind was too clouded with thoughts of you. He enters the town, making his way directly to your house first thing. He wasn’t even really sure if he was going to go to the other houses after.
The door rattles with his fist, and he wills the butterflies going off in his body to settle down.
If he had at all been worried your beauty was a fluke, which he wasn’t, his worries certainly died down the moment he looked at you for a second time.
You’re just as beautiful the second time around as you were the first.
Your chest was heaving with sweat lining your forehead. You must’ve been hard at work. Doing what, he wondered?
“It’s you.”
“It’s me.” He responds with a smile. “Much more prepared this time, I’m sorry.” He doesn’t want to tell you he stayed up until the sun rose to prepare your bread.
A sly grin breaks across your face. You lean against the door frame, your eyes sliding down his figure. Suguru can feel his skin tingling with each inch your eyes covered.
“What have you brought for me today?”
Suguru holds up his basket and reveals the fresh bread. It was a simple loaf of wheat bread, and although it was basic, it was renowned as his best selling one. He feels his heart flutter the second the scent reaches your nose, your face lightening up.
“That smells wonderful.”
“Tastes wonderful too, or so I’ve been told.”
You open the door a bit more, revealing the rest of the house behind you. It was humble, an aboad that was probably common in these parts of town.
“Why don’t you come in and share it with me?”
The offer stops Suguru in his tracks. Out of all the things you could have said to him, he wasn’t expecting that.
The first thought that crosses his mind is flattery. You want to eat with him?
The second feeling that follows after is worry. You want to eat with him, and he’s a stranger.
“You hardly know me.” He speaks.
The idea that you would open your door to just anyone frightened him a bit. What if it was someone with bad intentions?
“What’s your name?”
You don’t look afraid, even though Suguru feels you should be.
“Suguru.”
You toss his name across your brain several times. You say your name back and step away, letting him come in.
“Now you know my name and I know yours. Share it with me?”
He's touched by your kindness, but still mildly unnerved at the idea you might do this for someone with unsavory motives.
It’s hard to refuse your offer, so he finds himself stepping in after you. The close proximity whisks his breath away but you hardly notice. You don’t even spare him a glance as you head over to your table.
You sit down and look up at him, waiting for him to join you. He places the basket on the table before rummaging around, pulling the loaf out.
“I also brought more flowers, in case you were interested.”
“Will you let me pay this time?”
“Maybe.” No, he wouldn’t.
Suguru didn’t need any form of payment. As long as he got to see the joy on your face again, that was all he needed.
You grab a knife and begin to slide through the loaf, slicing several pieces for the two of you. He wondered if you were able to tell he made the bread fresh for you. Did the warmth of it tingle your fingers? Could you feel the love that seeped from it?
Suguru pulls out the jam and sets it aside.
“What’s that?” You ask.
“My neighbor made it. It’s strawberry.”
You pick up the jar, eyes gliding across the glass in amazement.
“Where do you live? The people in this town don’t bake bread or make jam. Maybe I should move to your town.” You joke.
Don’t say that, he thinks. If you say that, he might beg you to.
He hardly knows you, yet he’s finding himself completely entranced by you. He aches to learn more.
“A town further South. A couple hours at most.” He keeps his eyes trained down on your hands, watching as you spread the jam on the bread.
Only when the silence stretches on for too long does he rip his eyes from your fingers, looking up.
He doesn’t know whether he should be startled or not at the face you’re making. Your eyes are open wide, like you’re looking through him.
“Hours?” You repeat.
Suguru nods, his brows raising.
“I didn’t see a horse.”
“I walked.”
You stutter a bit before placing the knife down, pushing the plate in the middle of the table. Suguru’s eyes drift down, the intimacy of sharing a dish not lost on him.
“I could never walk that long.” You murmur, picking up a piece of bread, raising it to your lips.
Suguru tries not to stare at the way your lips part, but it’s difficult.
“It’s not that bad.” He pulls his piece up to him, taking a bite.
“Not everyone has such long legs.” You say around the food.
Suguru’s mouth perks up, a smile gracing his features. He was used to people commenting on his height, but he felt an extra ounce of pride when you were the one saying it.
You mumble around the food, hand flying up to cover your mouth.
“Suguru, this is wonderful!” Excitement seeps from your words and Suguru’s heart jumps.
“Thank you.” He dips his head down, suddenly bashful.
The two of you share the meal, words flowing flawlessly between you.
“It’s a shame that my father isn’t here, I’m sure he would love this as much as I do.” You comment.
Suguru leans back, not sure if this is a touchy subject.
“He’s just out of town today, I’ll share some with him when he comes back. Maybe.” You smirk.
“What does he do for work?”
“He helps people get their farms up and running. I think he traveled to help a young couple get theirs set up.”
Suguru begins to daydream about owning a farm with you. Would you adore his flowers as much as he did? Would you let him do all the work? He wouldn’t mind it, he preferred it.
He knew he was getting ahead of himself, but he couldn’t help the infatuation that grew in his heart.
Besides, Suguru never was one to love normally or calmly.
“I was trying to clean the house before he returns, but I must admit I’m having a hard time reaching things.”
“Would you allow me to help? I’ve got long legs, you know.”
A song floats over to his ears, a song built on your laughter. He could get used to that.
“I couldn’t make you do that. I already dragged you inside to eat with me. I’m sure you have much more important things to be doing.”
Never, he thinks. Nothing would be more important than this.
“It’s okay.” He says plainly.
He watches as you seem to be debating inside your head. You give up, standing up to carry the dishes to the sink.
“I would love help changing out the candles.” You say sheepishly.
Suguru waits as you leave to go find the extra candles, his head racing with thoughts. After you finished, there would be no reason for him to stay. He would have to go back home. He wanted to stay and talk with you more. Your words facisnated him. He felt like a child, the way he longed to hear you tell him stories. He didn’t want to go home. Not when being with you felt more like home than his own ever did.
“I found them.” You speak, snapping him out of it.
You guide him around the house, showing him every spot that needed a new candle.
It should be a simple task for him. He finds it increasingly difficult, however. He feels your eyes bore into him each time he reaches up, making his heart pound. Even though it’s easy to do, he’s just replacing old candles, he almost feels like he’s never done anything so hard before. He can feel the way your eyes track his movement, almost making it impossible to focus. His linen shirt suddenly feels too hot, as he tries to keep his eyes on his hands.
“There, how does that look?”
You stare at the metal candle holder for a minute before nodding, a soft hum coming from your lips.
“It looks wonderful, Suguru.”
He decides no one has ever said his name as beautifully as you do.
He steps back, following you towards the kitchen. He can tell that he needs to leave, but a small part of him is upset at that fact.
“Will you be in town anytime soon? I’d love to purchase more bread, if that’s alright.” You stare at him as he gathers his things.
He nods, and looks down at you.
“I can come back in several days.”
“Fantastic, I’ll be looking forward to it.” You say happily.
So will I, Suguru thinks.
~~~
Suguru leans back, watching you chew a new recipe he tried for bread. So far, so good, he thinks. Your lips are played in a smile as you taste it, swallowing it with a sigh.
“I don't think you can make something bad.”
“Is that a challenge?” Suguru jokes.
“One you’d fail, I’m sure.”
Your flattery causes his heart to race, a throb settling deep in his chest.
“I wish I could bake like you.” You say.
“I could teach you, if you’d like. It isn’t that hard.”
Your eyes flash with excitement and Suguru has to swallow the knot that forms in his throat.
“You can?”
Yes, anything for you.
“Sure. I can bring the ingredients tomorrow.”
You jump up and down in your seat, chattering away to him about all that you want to do with the bread. Are you aware of how you make his stomach twist? He thinks there’s no way you are.
~~~
When Suguru comes the next morning he has a burlap sack filled to the brim with ingredients, all for your bread. You open the door the second he knocks it, taking him by surprise.
“I apologize, I didn’t sleep much last night.” You say all giddy, opening up the door more.
Suguru steps inside and follows you to your table. You already have it set up according to how he told you. There’s bowls and spoons, all perfectly set. His hair is already tied back, so all he needs to do is roll up his sleeves.
He stands next to you, reading out what ingredients to add next. He watches over your shoulder as you eagerly mix, chuckling to himself when some of it spills out the sides.
“Slowly, sweetheart.” He murmurs.
You apologize quietly, following his order of slowing your hand down.
It was looking good, but now was the time to start getting your hands dirty.
“The next step is to knead it. You do this by placing it on the table, and pressing your hands into it.” Suguru explains, watching you scrap the bowl and plop the dough in front of you.
“Mmm like this?” You ask, folding it over itself.
“Just like that, a little more pressure.” He adds.
Without even thinking, he reaches his arms on either side of you, correcting your form to knead it harder. His hands hover over yours, pressing your palms down more against the plush dough.
“You have big hands.” You chuckle, and suddenly Suguru’s aware of what he’s doing.
“Oh, my bad. I shouldn’t have-“
“No, it’s okay. You should keep your hands there, so I don't mess up.” You correct him.
You turn your head over your shoulder, looking at him. His face is unbearingly close to yours, heat from your cheeks radiating off and scorching his face. He looks deep into your eyes before you’re quickly looking back down, watching the bread below your hands.
Suguru berates his heart as he helps you, hoping it slows down. That moment with you kept repeating in his mind, over and over again.
He snaps out of it when you squeal, pulling the bread from the oven. The top of it is perfectly golden, the smell of it filling your tiny kitchen.
“Look, Suguru!” You say, placing it down.
He looks over the top of your head and smiles.
“It looks good, let’s wait for it to cool before we try it.”
He would have liked to wait a little longer, afraid it would burn your tongue, but he couldn’t say no with the way you were tilting back and forth, begging to cut into it. Suguru takes the liberty, pouring the bread from the pan before sliding a knife down the side of it. It cuts smoother than butter, steam wafting up from it.
“Okay, let’s try it.” Suguru raises a small piece, holding it in his hand as he lifts it to your mouth.
The heat soaks into the pads of his finger tips, but he’d much rather get burned than you. You look down and blow on the bread, Suguru has to force himself not to gasp at the air caressing his skin. You look up at him and take a bite, smiling as crumbs dust your lips.
“It’s so good!” You murmur around the mouth full of food.
Suguru uses his other hand to lift up a separate piece, taking a slight nibble. It was fantastic. Sweeter than the bread he made, he wondered if that was just because you were the one who created it.
“You may put me out of business.” He jokes.
You pull your piece from his hand, holding it tightly next to your face. A shame, he thinks. He would’ve preferred for you to keep eating from his palm. Did that say something about him?
“I might, you better watch over your back.” You say, eating the rest of your bread with a grin.
“I will.” Suguru says back, treasuring the way the food melts on his tongue.
~~~
“Hey Suguru?”
The two of you have settled into a comfortable routine, as he had visited a couple of more times, always sitting in your kitchen to share a plate of bread with you.
He flicks his eyes up to you before looking back down.
“Is the forest dangerous?” You finish.
Suguru takes a moment to think. He’s never thought about it before. His feet have carried him through the trees for countless years.
“Not really. The only thing you have to look out for is bandits.”
He takes a moment to appreciate the way you’re gaping at him.
“I’ve never seen any though. Just know they’re out there.”
“They’d be a fool to try to rob you.” You mutter under your breath.
Suguru lets out a quiet chuckle. Any reason to point out his height, you’d take it.
“As children we’re warned not to go in too deep.” You mumble.
“I can bring you if you like? They have some Gardenia’s there, not too deep in. We can go and get them if you want?”
“You’d keep me safe from bandits?”
Yes, you don’t even have to ask. He’d go toe to toe for you.
“Of course.”
The more he got to know you, the more Suguru grew to like you, really like you. It was no longer infatuation, it grew into something more beautiful and large.
He notices you dip your head down at the tone of his soft voice. You have a few habits he’s picked up on. One of them is every reaction you have to his words. You like to poke and prod him, but the second he pushes back or uses a specific tone you look away, teeth nibbling on your lip. It’s adorable, he thinks.
~~~
You both decide to go to the forest tomorrow. He decides to stay in your town overnight because there would be no point in making the long trek back to his only to come back tomorrow morning. You offered a bed in your house, knowing your father would not have it, but Suguru declined. It would be improper, he told you. He had never felt his body fight so hard against him before. Even though it’s hard for him to say no, he doesn’t relent. He ends up staying at the only Inn in town. It was a normal house, with five extra rooms spread out. His host was a sweet older woman who insisted on helping carry his bags to his room. The act pained him, but he knew better than to tell a woman no.
As he lay in bed that night he stared up at the ceiling, thoughts of you curling around his mind.
You were here, in this town.
Suguru wakes up earlier than you do. His eyes crack open the second the sun shines through, his body restless. There was so much to show you, he didn’t know where to begin. Along with that, he felt the early onsets of fear begin to take hold. He had never thought about bandits before, but now that you mention it he couldn’t shake the idea. What if there were some when you went out? He wasn’t afraid of taking care of you. He knew he could do that. He just didn’t want you to see something ugly. He feared he would never forgive himself.
Suguru walks to your house, stopping a short ways away outside to linger near a bunch of trees. He didn’t want to intrude, and he had no idea what you’ve told your father about your relationship with him.
What was your relationship with him?
Friendly, he thought. You had always welcomed him with a smile. However there were lingering touches and stolen glances over fresh bread, conversations floating across your tongues easily. He didn’t want to get his hopes up. There was a chance you thought nothing of him, treating him as you would anyone else.
“Suguru!”
His head shoots up the second his name falls from your lips.
“I apologize for making you wait.” You say, stopping short in front of him.
You look like you got together hastily, sleep marks imbedded in your flesh with several of your hairs out of place.
Did you know how perfect you were?
“I wasn’t waiting long, are you ready to go?”
Suguru smiles at the excitement spreading across your face. He knew the flowers were in bloom, but he wasn’t sure they could rival you.
As the two of you walk, you take careful calculated steps as you notice the weather. It was sunny without being too temperamental. You could hear laughter of the village children carrying over the wind to you. Suguru listened to you as you rattled on, occasionally dropping his input, but he much preferred to listen.
When the trees started to get thicker Suguru noticed you start to walk closer to him. It was cute, the way you looked towards him for shelter and protection.
“I think this is where I saw them last time.” Suguru says aloud, stopping to the side and looking around.
“They’re bright red, so they're easy to spot.”
He sees excitement curl in your eyes at the prospect of finding some hidden treasure, even if that treasure was just flowers.
Suguru locates them after several minutes, grabbing your hand and leading you towards it. There were several bushes laid together, all of them overflowing with the red petals.
He smiles to himself at the gasp you let out, your fingers tentatively reaching forward to kiss the leaves.
“Pretty, right? I always think about taking some home with me so I can plant them but I can never bring myself to do it. They look much better out here anyhow.”
Suguru sits next to you as you stare at the bush. He finds it cute that you’re interested in his interests. If you asked, he would tell you anything you wanted to know about plants or baking. Suguru wasn’t an expert in everything, but he was an expert in those.
“Suguru, thank you for showing me these.” Your voice trails off, still focused on what was in front of you.
He smiles and picks a red Gardenia, careful placing it behind your ear.
“Anytime.”
Your hand trembles as you reach up to touch the flower on your ear. The forest was silent, save for the sounds of birds and bugs, complete serenity falling over you.
The only way Suguru’s able to tell that time is passing is by the view of the sun, now completely overhead, shining through the canopy of trees around you. Neither of you wanted to leave, so instead you lay on your backs, looking at the trees above you. The leaves and sun paint beautiful pictures, yellow shapes being shined upon your skin.
“Hey Suguru?”
Suguru hums, turning his head to the side to look at you.
Your arm is outstretched, holding the flower he gave you in front of you. Your fingers are twirling it around, spinning the flower over and over. Suguru’s dizzy at the sight, but he can’t tell if it’s because of your beauty or the the spinning.
“They say flowers have a language of their own, don't they?”
Suguru’s lashes flit as he memorizes the lines on your face, wanting to capture this moment.
“They do.”
“Do you know the meanings of flowers?”
“Some of them.”
Suguru sits up and pulls the tie from his hair, letting the black silk cacoon him. He looks over his shoulder back at you, but you’re too preoccupied with the sight of the twirling.
“What does this one mean?”
Suguru ponders for a moment, unsure whether or not he should tell you. Would it come off too strong? He couldn’t bare the thought of lying to you though. He’s a strong man so he fights the urge to look away from you when he says,
“Secret love.”
He swears the forest ceases all sound at that moment, that or the beating of his heart is far louder than anything else.
“Is that so?” You ask, peeking around the bright flower to look at him.
He hums, waiting to see if you would have a negative reaction. Would you get up and leave him here, never to allow him back into your home? He wouldn’t blame you.
A demure smile spreads across your face, sitting up until you’re laying on your elbow. You bring the flower to your face, taking in a deep breath before you sit up completely. Suguru tracks your movements carefully.
“In that case,” you say, sliding the flower behind Suguru’s ear, the bright pop of red constrasting with his dark hair.
Suguru swears his heart stops beating in that moment, his body completely rigid with surprise. You knew the meaning of the flower, and you were giving it to him?
A silent understanding flows between you two, Suguru no longer on edge as the seconds pass. You both are aware now, your feelings as out in the open as they could be without physically saying it. It was funny, the flower meant secret love but his admiration for you was no longer a secret.
“It’s a shame we can’t stay out here forever.” You say.
You lay back down, closing your eyes.
Suguru silently agrees, leaning back until he’s laying next to you, much closer this time. He wonders what’s going to happen next. Would he be able to court you properly, would your father accept him?
He hears you shuffle around before your face pops into view, blocking out the sun above him. His brows raise in surprise as he looks at you. You looked nothing short of an Angel, golden light haloing around your head as you smile down at him.
“I know you’re busy where you live, but why don't we meet in this forest once a week?” You say.
“Or I can walk down and meet you closer to your village, that might be easier.”
No, he couldn’t handle the idea of you walking these forests alone, or walking that long at all.
“Let’s meet here.” Suguru agrees, reaching a hand up to cup your cheek.
Neither of you want to be the one to look away first. So instead, you just continue to gaze into the others eyes.
Suguru hears an older man call your name just outside the sanctity of the forest. It must be your father, and by the sounds of it he was angry. Probably upset that dinner hadn’t been made yet, if Suguru had to come up with a reason. He didn’t want to dislike your father, after all he had a hand in creating you, but he didn’t appreciate the way he treated you.
“I suppose I’ll have to leave now…” you trail off, your voice caked in sadness.
Suguru’s grip on your cheek tightens, and he resolves to do something he’s never done before, yet dreamed of countless times.
He sits up and leans in, his lips ghosting yours.
“Suguru…” You whisper, looking into his eyes, the movement of your lips tickling his.
“May I?” Just this once, he wants to beg. Let me taste you just this once.
He waits for an answer that doesn’t come. Instead, you’re meeting him halfway, kissing him softly. It was everything he had dreamed of. Your lips were soft, the lingering taste of the sweet strawberry jam he always brought to you mingling with his own.
If only he could stop time.
If only nothing existed but the two of you.
As soon as it starts, it’s over. You’re pulling away, your eyes flickering open to look at him. He can hardly breathe under your gaze. His fingers itch with the need to grab you, press you against him, show the love he’s been feeling all this time but has been too afraid to say aloud.
Suguru’s lips tingle as he watches you slowly rise to your feet. You dip your head in acknowledgment, tossing over your shoulder.
“Coming, father!”
Stay, he thinks. Stay.
“Goodbye Suguru.” You murmur, giving him a smile.
He watches you scamper out of the forest, feeling like you took his heart with you.
He isn’t sure he’s ever going to want it back.
The house she rented was near London, on the outer edges. Looking out the window, Sebastian could see empty dirt fields all around, land prepared for more construction, and to the side toward the south plumes of chimney smoke coming from the city. The grey skies were turning red with sunset.
A couple of lamps turned on behind him in the room, he could see their glow reflected in the window. Cutting through them, a shadow approached. She hugged him from behind.
“I must’ve told you a hundred times today,” she said with her cheek pressed against his back, “but I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too,” he said.
It was true. He’d missed her every day, and every memory of her the Dementors pulled out was like a splinter chipped off of his heart. But since learning of her… situation, he no longer knew what he felt. Was it hatred? Was it rage? Was there even a feeling left inside of him for her, or was the hatred and the rage all for himself?
“Come on,” she said with a calm and loving voice, blissfully ignorant of the storm raging inside him, “let’s give you a little wash.”
She had him sit on the sofa in front of the lit fireplace, and one by one the space before him filled with bowls of water pitchers and little mounds of towels. He wasn’t sure how he looked anymore, he’d only caught the faintest reflection of himself in the window, but he imagined it wasn’t good. His hair felt matted, his skin crusted with dirt, and he didn’t even want to look at all the bruises anymore…
After she placed everything she needed, she brought him chocolate to eat, and on the table next to him she placed a steaming cup of hot cocoa. Sebastian smiled as he picked up a little chocolate square and let melt on his tongue. He remembered reading about this remedy against Dementors in his third year. How long ago that was…
While he ate the sweets, she tended to him. She took his jacket off, his boots, his tie and vest and shirt, and limb by limb she scraped the dirt away, while his feet rested in warm salt water. She had the nerve to blush when she cleaned down his chest, her hands moving slow and enticing. When she reached his thighs, she worked down each one with both hands, sneaking glances up at him through her long lashes.
Sebastian swallowed the knot in his throat, but he no longer had it in him to be aroused at the sight. At least, not yet. The picture of her at his feet, his naked skin beneath her hands — bruised and bony as he was — was soiled by the thought of what Ominis would think if he saw this…
The next hour was spent cleaning the wounds on his wrists and ankles, applying salves wherever she found the smallest scrape or bruise, and then washing his hair. She placed a basin on a table behind the sofa and had him lean back, close his eyes, and gave him a bit more chocolate. Her fingers soothed his nerves as they massaged his scalp, lathering him slowly, untangling the knots made across so many restless nights… She rinsed the foam out, and then lathered his hair again until she was satisfied that he was clean. He was covered in a blanket by now, feet warming by the fire.
Once he was dry, she brought new clothes out for him — just a comfortable pair of nightclothes to start.
Sebastian let her dress him, but stayed silent the whole while. Unnaturally silent.
“How do you feel?” she asked with an encouraging smile as she rubbed the towel against his still-damp hair.
He avoided the question. “I should be asking you that.”
“Oh?” she giggled. “How so?”
“How far along?” he asked brusquely, not even looking at her.
“Six months,” she said with a sad smile, her hands threading gently through his hair.
Sebastian nodded and was quiet for long moments while the feelings he’d kept trying to hold back bubbled to the surface. Then, all of a sudden, he got up and walked all the way around the sofa. He started to pace up and down the centre of the room.
It wasn’t exactly unexpected… What did he, a convicted murderer with a broken wand, have to offer somebody like her? And who else to take her from him than Ominis — wealthier, more handsome, well-connected, kind and gentle and always far more level-headed than he ever was.
He should be happy for her, if he loved her. But he couldn’t manage it.
“I’d like to go,” he said, looking aimlessly around, everywhere but at her.
“What? Why?”
“I can’t stay here…”
“But —”
“I can’t.”
“Sebas—”
“It was difficult enough,” he started, “to be in there, wondering about you all the time, doubting whether… whether you would even want to speak to me after everything. But to see… to see you and…”
“And what?” she asked tearfully.
Sebastian took a deep breath in, then out. His swallowed thoughts and feelings poured out of him faster than he could control them.
“Every good memory I ever had was drained out of me, every day, every day,” he mumbled, “but however bad it was, I still thought… I still had… you.”
“Sebastian,” she whispered, approaching him slowly, “what are you talking about? You do have me, you do.”
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, working up the courage to say it. The chime of her steps on the wooden floor rang like a death knell in his ears.
“Seeing you and Ominis today…” he spat, sounding exactly as angry and betrayed and lonely as he felt, “was worse than any thoughts the Dementors put in my head.”
She stood there quietly and listened in a state of shock. Nothing he was saying made sense. Wasn’t he happy to see his friends? Was this an effect of his imprisonment? Would it go away with time? He sounded jealous, but he couldn't be. Nothing had changed between the three of them since they were at Hogwarts — nothing aside from…
“I should have known,” he continued, shaking his head as if he could get rid of the awful thoughts, “I should have known when you were always at the trial together, always whispering to each other…”
“Sebastian,” she said, speaking more sharply than she meant to, “whatever you think happened between me and Ominis, it didn’t.”
He looked down at her, his eyes dull and bleary but full of anger.
She met his gaze and held it gently, and reached out to take his hand. “Is this what you’re worried about?” she asked as she placed his palm on her lightly swollen stomach. “Because this is ours.”
She said it as if it had been the most obvious thing, but it struck Sebastian like a revelation. Suddenly, he looked at her as if she were a new person, and as if he were new as well. His frown relaxed and his lips lost their tension and the brown in his eyes turned sweet again from the smoulder that was there before.
“W-what?”
“That night after they announced your trial… Remember?” she said with a shy smile, blushing a little. “It’s ours. I was never involved with Ominis, we’re friends, like we’ve always been… It’s you I love, you I want, you I’ve been carrying this for.”
Sebastian swallowed the knot in his throat and looked down at her body, his hand still on her stomach. He nearly had forgotten… How could he? How could he? After years of circling around each other that night of finally confessing, finally accepting their love… It had meant everything to him, and if only for a moment it eclipsed his past sins and the looming trial and made everything fade into nothingness. Showing his love for her had been the sweetest moment of his life… So, how could he have forgotten it?
“The Dementors,” she frowned, answering it for him. “They steal happy memories, that is what they feed on.”
“I suppose they must’ve had a feast with that,” he said with a hoarse chuckle.
“My poor darling,” she whispered, her hand going up to cup his cheek. She knew she couldn’t begin to understand what had been done to him. Even seeing it unfold distraught her...
Sebastian, meanwhile, was fixated, fascinated, his hand warming on her tummy. “Mine,” he muttered, his hand caressing the expanse of her little swell. “W-wow…”
He was just beginning to understand what it meant: how wrong he’d been about her, about Ominis too, and about himself… And how beautiful of a future they had together now.
It also made him realise how horrible he’d been to her so far.
“I’m sorry,” he said briskly, looking into her eyes again.
“Why?” she frowned.
“For doubting you. For being ungrateful, most of all…”
“Oh Seb,” she sighed, and in the same breath reached up to hug him. “I’m sorry I didn’t explain it at first,” she whispered. “I know I should have. I just… felt so uncomfortable about it, so —”
“Ashamed?”
“Yes,” she mumbled.
His arms tightened around her back. “We’re both ashamed then. And we both shouldn’t be.”
She laughed a little. “I suppose so…”
Sebastian leaned back enough to look into her eyes again and his right hand cupped her cheek. With a trembling thumb, he wiped away a little tear that beaded at her lashes.
“And I’ve been letting you fuss over me all day,” he smiled sadly, wanting to sink into the ground with guilt.
“Don’t be silly,” she chuckled. “I’ve been alright… It’s you I’m worried about.”
“There’s nothing to worry about anymore.”
He knew it wasn’t really true, he knew he was still troubled and far from the man she used to know, but he was determined — especially now — to put Azkaban and all its woes behind him.
She hugged him loosely at the hips and smiled up at him, drinking in the beautiful sight of her Sebastian with finally a little bit of hope in his eyes.
“So what do you think?” she grinned. “Will you let me take care of you now?”
“I should be taking care of you. I did this to you, after all,” he said with a cocked brow. His hands slid down her neck and to her shoulders before settling around her waist, and all the while he looked her up and down suggestively.
She blushed at the shamelessness of him. “How about we take care of each other?” she chuckled.
“Well, you’ve already taken care of me enough for today,” he said, leaning in to kiss her forehead. “I think it’s my turn now.”
She giggled and shook her head, but found her heart fluttering excitedly, just like it used to when they were still at Hogwarts, young and careless and in love… Of course, they were still quite young, and very much in love. They just needed to work on being careless again.
“And how do you propose to do that?” she whispered.
His arms wrapped around her waist more tightly and he tucked her head beneath his chin.
“That’s exactly how,” he said dreamily. “I’m going to propose.”
“What?”
“You heard me.”
She pulled away enough to look at him. She could tell that he was being serious.
“You don’t expect I’ll let you go on this way, will you?” he said. His gaze was playful but with a serious edge beneath it. “We shall have to marry soon. This month. This week, if possible... Then we can go somewhere nice and quiet for a while, so neither your family nor any of our friends will be able to tell the months…”
“Seb, you’re not ready yet…”
“What am I, one of Garreth’s potions? I’m ready when I say I am.”
She laughed in spite of herself.
“So, what do you say?” he grinned.
And he pulled himself away from her, and held her hands in his, and with a surety that he had until now thought lost to him forever he got down on one knee.
“Will you marry me?”
She didn’t even need to think about it. “Yes. I will. I love you.”
Sebastian’s smile was so big and broad that it hurt his cheeks. It was so nice to have a dream come true every now and then… It felt like he’d been given a new life, a new soul that wasn’t tarnished, a fresh heart to love her with. His arms curled around her waist and he rested his weary head against her stomach, his eyes closed, and his ear to the little life inside her.
“I love you too,” he whispered. “Both of you.”
He heard and felt her giggle, and then her hands came down to his ruffled head. She covered him like a star-speckled and cloud-soft firmament, and he’d never felt more safe.
a prelude to falling
bucktommy - rated g - 984 words - 7.06 spec
Tommy is in so much trouble.
Across the dancefloor, Evan sways with Jee-Yun in his arms, the little girl clinging to his neck, her eyes drooping like she’s fighting sleep.
It is far, far too early to be thinking about Evan dancing with their own little girl like that, so he only indulges the thought for a second before sweeping it under a rug to be brought out at a later date.
There’s going to be a later date, if he has any say in it. And if the smile that appears on Evan’s face when they make eye contact is anything to go by, it’s a sure bet.
The song ends and Evan gently removes the koala grip Jee-Yun has on his neck and hands her off to the Buckley father. That meeting had been…interesting. Tommy hadn’t known if Evan had done the business of coming out to his parents before the wedding, but he’s guessing by the twin looks of shock on their faces when Evan had said, breezy as anything, this is my date, Tommy, that he had not.
There’s a story there. Probably several stories, most of which are likely not good. He’s familiar with that—it’s not like he doesn’t have a treasure trove of shit himself.
But the part that surprises him is that he wants to learn all those stories. And all the other stories Evan could tell him. And he wants to tell Evan all his stories too.
He’s never fallen so quickly for someone before.
Evan catches his eye again as he comes across the dancefloor. He’d changed right before the impromptu hospital wedding—Chimney in a gown and suit jacket getting pumped full of fluids for his dehydration while he said his vows, Maddie looking beautiful at his side—so he’s out of the Miami Vice getup that had seen better days by the time Tommy had deposited Chimney at the hospital. Now he’s in a suit just a shade or two lighter than navy with a pale blue dress shirt underneath.
Tommy’s doing a magnificent job of not being horny in public and is only kind of thinking about taking it off him piece by piece.
Not that they’re there yet. He’s been taking it slow both because he thinks it’s probably what Evan needs and because he’s enjoying getting to know him before tumbling into bed with him. But he’s thought about it. Of course he’s thought about it.
“Hey,” Evan says when he reaches him. It’s breathy, the word escaping on an exhale and tugging the corners of his mouth up into a smile on the way out.
Tommy is quickly learning that having Evan Buckley’s attention is something special you don’t want to let go of.
“Hey,” he says back, reaching out to tug Evan into his orbit. He’d hesitated, when they’d first reconvened at the reception once Chimney’d been discharged at the hospital, not sure how much PDA was okay with Evan in general, much less right after having unceremoniously come out to his parents, but he shouldn’t have worried. The moment other people had started filtering onto the dancefloor after the newlyweds’ first dance Evan had held a hand out and said, I believe I promised dancing and had hardly stopped touching him since.
And now is no exception. Evan lets himself be tugged in close, and then leans in for a sweet, chaste yet lingering kiss.
“What do you say we get out of here?” Evan murmurs when it’s over.
“You don’t have to help with cleanup, or anything?”
“Nope,” Evan says, popping the P. “Josh got the man of honor prize, he gets the cleanup duty.”
“Okay. Need to say bye to your sister?”
“Nah,” Buck says, grinning. “She and Chim snuck out like fifteen minutes ago.”
Tommy glances around, realizing now he hadn’t seen the flash of her white gown in a while. But then, he’d been too glued to Evan dancing with Jee-Yun to have noticed if an elephant had strode in and trampled the guests.
“What do you have in mind?” He asks, indulging himself by sliding his hands under Evan’s suit jacket to rest on his waist.
“I was thinking,” Evan starts, sliding his hands up Tommy’s chest and around to the back of his neck, only stopping when his fingers are folded together there, locking them in place, “we could go back to mine?”
Tommy raises a brow. “Yeah?”
Evan lifts and drops one shoulder in a shrug. “We could just talk. Or—” he leans in again, brushing his mouth across Tommy’s, “—do some more of this?”
Tommy shivers. Fuck. He’d seen hints of what kind of flirt Evan could be when he hadn’t really understood what he was doing, and he’d known that as soon as he’d gotten his feet under him he was going to sweep Tommy off his. It just seems like that time has come a little sooner than he’d expected.
“Yeah,” he exhales. “Yeah, let’s go.”
Evan beams at him, and his heart kicks in his chest.
He lets Evan lead him from the venue, their palms fitting together so nicely. He lets Evan kiss him at their vehicles, a little hotter, a little heavier in the semi-privacy of a dark parking lot.
And as he follows Evan’s taillights to the loft, he lets himself acknowledge that he’s a goner. He’s going to fall in love with him. He thinks his fate was sealed when Chimney showed up at the hangar with Evan and Eddie in tow.
Maybe his fate was sealed years ago, when he’d left the 118 for Harbor, opening the space Evan found his way into.
He doesn’t know. But he does know it’s the path he’s on now. All he can do now is hope Evan is on the path with him.
And the thing is? He’s pretty sure he is.
Dean sinks those pearly whites into the flesh of his bottom lip. His top lip pulls up and back into a painful sneer. The usual rosy, pillowy fullness of that mouth is instead taut, whitening under the capture. You laser focus onto the pointy canine denting into the mouth you have debated sitting on since you began this teasing challenge.
jingle
You finish fashioning a sweet little bow with the ribbon. It’s ruby red and velvety soft.
“Well, I think that’s about the prettiest package I ever did wrap.”
jingle
“What do you think, Mr. Claus?” you ask, your voice as innocent and demure as you can manage.
Dean opens his mouth and expels a slow gasp. jingle “Fuck, sweetheart. You aren’t playin’ fair.”
“That’s the whole point.”
You rise from the edge of the bed and take in the entire scene. It’s magnificent.
He’s magnificent.
Dean is lying atop the forest green comforter of your bed. Naked. Well, not totally naked. A red ribbon - adorned with one single sleigh bell - binds his wrists together and anchors him to the headboard. His arms, jutting out and bent to create a diamond-shaped frame around his face, give you a prime ticket to the gun show. Biceps flex and tendons raise under the skin as he tries to remain as motionless as possible.
jingle
You aren’t a complete heathen. He’s got a fluffy pillow, the same deep green color as the comforter, to rest his head atop. Dean is anything but sleepy. He’s wound up. He stares back at you, the green of his irises electric and flaming with intensity.
You anticipate how sublime it will feel to strum the cords of his neck. Tickle your fingertips down that chest. You imagine Dean ring-a-ding-dinging and cursing himself if you take the time to trace the outline of his tattoo. Circle those perky nipples. Dip into his belly button and follow his treasure trail of baby-fine hair.
You marvel again at the other ribbon that you tied. You’d purchased a couple yards of red velvet at the craft store weeks ago with this in mind. With him in mind. You were ecstatic it had been enough to criss-cross around the crease below that fine ass. It wraps over a slight vee along his waist. The makeshift holiday jockstrap has Dean’s beautiful, now fully erect, cock sporting a bow.
Dean sighs. “Are you done decking my balls?” jingle
You giggle and fiddle with the belt of your robe. It’s red as well, but made of silk. “As we discussed, the end result of all of this is all up to you. Santa.” You flip a switch to turn off the ceiling light. The sconces stay on above the headboard. Two halos figure eight over Dean’s beautiful body, awash in a warm amber glow.
He’s a full print ad of holiday cheer and sinful debauchery.
“You’re being very naughty, (jingle) Mrs. Claus.” Dean licks his top lip—your core clenches at the deep timbre of his scolding.
You’ve been wet since you both finished Christmas dinner. Since you told him you had one more gift for him waiting upstairs. Since you left him in the bedroom with orders to strip while you changed in the bathroom. Since you pulled out the ribbons. Since you explained that if he was good and could keep his jingling down to a minimum through what you had planned, you’d fuck him into the New Year.
You inhale and shrug, then begrudgingly turn your back to the sight. It takes a few taps on your phone for you to get to the song. You stifle another giggle at the little jingles Dean can’t help as he waits.
Once you tap the play button, the festive and recognizable melody begins. A barbershop quartet bah-bums a bit before the sultry and smooth vocals of Eartha Kitt take the lead.
Tumblr media
You look back over your shoulder at Dean and whisper along with Eartha.
Tumblr media
You peel the silky robe off one shoulder then the other. Dean groans when the layer slips down to the floor. jingle
“Shit.” He moans and you grin in satisfaction at the hoped for reaction.
You turn back to face him, adding a dramatic hair flip. You're wearing a sexy little Mrs. Claus outfit. It’s a red velvet dress with a scandalously high skirt and a low-cut halter. White fur lines both the top and bottom. It’s all cinched nice and tight around your waist with a black belt and a gold buckle.
You bend at the knees and lean forward, shoulders folding in and hands resting on your thighs. It gives Dean the perfect vantage to ogle your cleavage. You purr along with the next line and modify the lyrics a smidge.
Tumblr media
“Man, I must have been a really good boy this year.” Dean stares in awe, not even caring how much he’s jingling with his squirms atop the bed.
You let it slide for the time being, thrilled at the kid in a candy store grin plastered on his face and the way the bow sways with every twitch of his cock.
Tumblr media
Dean tilts his head to the side. His gaze begins at your red-glitter heels and canvases every inch of skin from ankles to thighs. He pauses, stopping to stare at the hint of flesh under the skirt hem. jin-jingle jingle jin-jingle He pants out, “Mrs. Claus forgot her panties, huh?”
You lift a finger and wiggle it back and forth in the air. “Uh-uh-uh. Remember, really good boys stay still if they want their present.”
The bell jangles no matter how carefully he attempts to reposition himself. “Son of a bitch,” he mumbles and you laugh. “Sorry, sweetheart. I’ll be good,” he whispers soft and sweet.
The heels tap across the hardwood as you walk over to settle beside Dean. You adjust your skirt to let the scant amount of fabric fan over your naughty bits. Being so close to him makes you forget the lyrics to sing along with Eartha.
You rest a hand on his chest. Through clenched teeth, Dean inhales at the touch, the rest of him frozen in place. The bell is silent. Your other hand grabs one of the candy canes you had left on the bedside table. For reasons.
Watching him fight every urge he has to reach out and touch you is fascinating. And the power you have over him gives you a head rush. You continue the tease, twirling the candy between your fingers, then laving the cane’s hook with your mouth and tongue. Dean garners some pity from you as he whines, brows downturned, eyes attentive to your every swirl and suck. You swing the cane close to his mouth. “Wanna taste?”
He swallows. “Wanna taste you,” he states, the hint of hope escaping around the edges of a soft moan.
The thrill of his need quickens your pulse. No other man has loved and adored you as thoroughly and exuberantly as Dean Winchester. You nod. “You will. But, first,” you rub the wet-slick candy cane over his bottom lip, “show me what that mouth wants to do.”
“You know what this mouth can do,” he reminds with a little sass, letting the candy cane tap against his bottom teeth.
But soon enough, he indulges you. He slips the hook between his lips. His tongue slides out under the curve of peppermint, lapping at the sticky sweet. Again and again. Your breath hitches into your open mouth as you watch, enthralled at the ministrations of that thick and powerful muscle. He sucks the confection in a little farther, pursing his lips. The sounds he’s making, enjoying the treat, are downright pornographic and send any extraneous bell ringing to the back of your hearing queue. The red food coloring coats them like lip gloss by the time you break from the spell of his show. You guess it’s been minutes since Eartha finished her rendition of ‘Santa, Baby.’ The rest of the playlist you created has soft and dreamy instrumentals.
“My turn,” you cajole. You tug on the cane. He relinquishes, but not without some resistance. A little pop escapes his mouth once the hook is freed. You marvel at the progress he made. The hook end is substantially shorter and thinner than when he began.
He sniffs and tilts his chin up in pride. jingle “Your turn with that, or my turn with you?”
The cane slips back into your mouth, your fingers sticky from all the handling. You stand, kick off your heels, and climb back onto the bed on your knees. You grin as you suck on the candy.
His eyes soften. “Be careful, baby. Don’t want you to choke. Well, at least not on that.” He smirks.
He’s right. Safety first. You toss the candy onto the bedside table.
“You are so (jingle) fucking hot in that (jingle) outfit.” He grins and waggles eyebrows in anticipation. “Gonna let me down your chimney, Mrs. Claus?” jingle jingle jingle
The actions in the next few seconds are a blur. You wonder if Dean has some sort of Jedi mind control ability. Because even though you are supposed to be the one making decisions this evening, his seductively god-awful puns find you sitting on his face, reverse cowgirl.
“You might get the golden ticket to all my secret places if you’re lucky.” Your fingers tip-toe down his chest like a grinch about to steal someone else’s presents.
jingle jingle jingle
“Fuckin’ hell,” Dean murmurs under your skirt. Hot breath bathes your inner thighs and other areas you hope will soon be explored.
Your hands rest in the little divots created by his pelvic bones while you take his body in and plan your method of attack. You pull on the ribbon and release his cock of the bow. Then, you’re deep throating him like he’s your last meal.
Not one to be outdone at an all-you-can-eat buffet, Dean’s entire face gets in on the feast as well. Nerves respond to the tingling sensation of the residual peppermint on Dean’s lips and tongue. You shiver at the gloriously heightened sensitivity when he pulls back to blow on your pussy. “This is so much better than milk and cookies.” He moans and groans and jingles all the way.
As much as you’re loving the taste of his precome, the velvet texture against your tongue, and the way the tip triggers a tiny gag reflex at the base of your throat, it’s time to remind him of the consequences of all that noise he’s making. You release the hard length from your mouth and try to concentrate on your own breathing during the absolute virtuoso way he’s eating you out. As much as you’d love his fingers to get in on the action, you know you’d have no control over the situation. You sigh in relief that he’s trying to adhere to some parts of the game. The pitiful, half-hearted ribbon shackling of his hands to the headboard is no match for Dean Winchester.
You steady yourself on wobbly knees and one shaky elbow. A firm grip around the base of his cock makes Dean gasp. He stills after that. In your mind’s eye, you picture the beauty of that mouth and how his luscious pink lips were slick with peppermint. You imagine how slick they are with you now. “Sorry, baby,” he murmurs and you feel him settle back onto the pillow. “I’ll be as quiet as I can. Can you blame me, though? Here I am, under your sweet little skirt, in the dark (jingle)... shit, sorry. But, you can’t drop a five-course meal in front of a starving (jingle) man and not expect him to wanna little taste.”
You squeeze his cock. “That’s part of the challenge.”
“I’m always up for a challenge. You always make me feel so good.”
You groan at the praise he bestows. Without releasing your hold, you shimmy off his chest. Channeling the prim and delicate sensibilities of Mrs. Claus, you crawl along the comforter and settle between nutcracker bow legs. With knees tucked under you and sat atop bare feet you accept him in your mouth again and get to work.
You take in the sight of Dean inventorying your every action. He’s gripping the top of the headboard with both hands to steady his upper body. You clock that the little stinker has also managed to palm the sleigh ball in an effort to silence or, at the very least, muffle it. You consider that move cheating. But he feels so sublime that you can’t bear to part with him to voice your irritation. He’s also whispering the sweetest filth to you while he watches.
“Damn. Yeah. Those lips of yours feel so good around my cock. You take it so good, baby. Wish I could fuck that pretty little mouth of yours, but I’d definitely jingle-jangle way too much.” A tongue swipe over his top lip accentuates the glossy look of his ruby-tinted mouth in the warm light. “You really are too good to me. You give the best Christmas presents.” He stiffens further with each downstroke. “Aw, yeah. Suck it.” Your rhythm increases. “So pretty. Wanna touch you so bad.” He gasps. “Fuck, I’m gettin’ close.” jingle jingle
You clamp around the base again and squeeze, freeze mid-swallow - your lips around the tip - as soon as he rings.
Dean squirms and grumbles.
You continue to bring him to the edge of orgasm, then halt. Your jaw is aching along with the rest of your body as time passes.
You’ve fucked Dean up in the best way possible. He’s blissed out, wound up tighter than a spring. You’ve got him begging. But his words grow into admonishments with each successive denial. “You can’t keep doing this, baby. There’s gonna be consequences. Santa’s gonna for real put you on his naughty list. Nothing but coal in your stocking,” he huffs.
You give your mouth a reprieve and stroke him. “Is that all that happens to naughty girls?”
He gnaws at his bottom lip before offering, “You really wanna find out?”
You nod.
The ribbon binding Dean to the headboard shreds with one mighty tug. He pitches the sleigh bell in the air. It jingles as it pinballs around the room.
You gasp as he cinches those hands under your armpits and drags you up his body. He crushes his lips into yours, tastes you with his tongue. The mixture of your arousal and a hint of peppermint melts you in his arms. Then, a sudden and swift rollover pins you beneath him.
He hovers, tosses your skirt up to your chest, and wedges between your legs. His hard, heavy cock slips into your folds and glides through your wetness. “I could drag this out. Or.” It’s his turn to tease. He notches snug against your entrance. You’re surprised your muscles haven’t pulled him into you of their own accord the way your entire body spasms with need. He whispers in your ear, “Let me be your Santa, baby.”
You gasp, “And hurry down the chimney tonight.”
He groans in victory and slides in, balls deep. He thrusts. One massive hand gathers your wrists together on the pillow above your head to anchor you in place. Fingers of his other hand grip the top of the headboard. Every sway in and out of you gets more frenetic. You’re screaming his name and he’s cursing yours.
“Good girls do what they’re told,” he states, out of breath, face reddening. His gaze locks with yours. He slows down. Releases your hands. Finds your clit amid the white fur and red velvet. Strums. Angles and hits your sweet spot deep within you with a harsh abandon. “Come.”
Minutes later, after you’ve both orgasmed, you’re curled into his chest. “That was…” you manage between heavy exhales.
“Yeah, that was awesome.” He kisses your forehead. “Every year, since I saved you from that ghost on Christmas Eve, you find a way to outdo yourself with the holiday cheer.”
“Well, you deserve it. I’m glad you can get away for a little while and get a special treat.”
He sighs. “You know, you don’t have to feel obligated to…”
You rest a finger atop his lips. “How I see it. Guy saves your life one time, you owe him the rest of yours.”
He smiles and pulls you in. “How about we just focus on tonight, yeah?”
You nod. “Merry Christmas, Dean.”
“Merry Christmas, sweetheart.”
I was wondering, when you get the time if you could do a birthday thing with Remus where it starts off all cutesy and fun during the day and gets sexual in the evening, or something like that. Maybe the date could be Dec 6th or take place in December?? I kind of rambled sorry. I hope you have a good day!!
Patience is a Virtue
Masterlist AO3
Summary - It's your birthday and after a date in Hogsmeade, Professor Lupin goes down on you (1,978 words).
Warnings - Oral sex, kissing, fluff, smut, cheesy fluff, unprotected sex, my grammar, not proof-read.
Notes - It's my birthday so I decided to write this request. I'm also half-asleep and only have 4 hours of sleep left before i have to get up for university :') cheers
It was a cold winter day, the kind of cold that bit at your cheeks and made the snow crunch under your feet. Your hand was securely tucked into Remus', each breath you took materializing as a small cloud before dissipating into the crips air of the Scottish Highlands. Hogsmeade was just a short walk away, and you could already see the rising smoke from the chimneys of the snow covered houses and shops.
"Are you sure you wouldn't prefer a warmer celebration? We could apparate to Spain, have a paella by the beach," he teased.
Laughing, you squeezed his hand. "And miss a birthday walk to Hogsmeade with you? Never. Besides, I'm looking forward to that cinnamon latte at Madam Puddifoot's" you replied.
Remus smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he glanced down at you. "Well, anything for the birthday girl," he said. You knew Madam Puddifoot's wasn't Remus' favourite. It was too pink, too tacky, too much, but you loved it and it was your birthday and so he went.
As you approached the village, you took in the scent of fresh pastries emanating from the shop with their frosty windows. Children ran past you, laughing and throwing snowballs. It was perfect. He was perfect.
You turned your face to look at him, admiring the way the winter sun caught the edges of his slightly greying hair and the gentle lines around his eyes. Feeling your gaze, he looked down, his eyes meeting yours with a softness that made you absolutely melt.
"Enjoying the view?" he asked playfully.
"Yes, Professor," you giggled, the title coming out teasingly.
Remus chuckled warmly. "You must stop being so adorable- it's hard to resist not kissing you right here," he quipped as he reached to tuck a loose strand of your hair back into your scarf.
"Why resist, Professor?" you whispered back, standing on your tiptoes, pulling him closer by his coat.
With a mock sigh of surrender, Remus leaned down, his lips meeting yours in a sweet, lingering kiss.
Hand in hand, you continued your walk into Hogsmeade. The village was charmingly festive and buzzing with excitement for the coming holidays. You soon found yourselves in front of Madam Puddifoot's tea shop. The place was bustling with chatter and filled with a slightly over-the-top array of pink decorations and floating candles that flickered softly above your heads.
Remus guided you to a secluded table, helping you off with your coat before pulling out your chair. He waited until you were comfortably settled and made his way to the counter, only to return shortly with a tray bearing two steaming cups of cinnamon lattes and a plate of pastries.
His gaze lingered lovingly on you as you took a sip. Your cheeks were still pink from the cold and your eyes were sparkling with the joy of the day that he had made so special. "You're beautiful," he murmured, almost without thinking, keeping his voice low enough so only you could hear.
You looked up from your cup, not brave enough to set it down and expose the blush that was threatening to intensify under his gaze. After a moment, Remus slid his hand into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, elegantly wrapped box, placing it gently on the table. "For you," he said softly.
Your eyes lit up with curiosity and delight. "Remus, what is this?" you asked as you untied the ribbon and opened the box to reveal a delicate gold necklace with a beautifully crafted moon as a pendant- a symbol so deeply personal to him.
"It's just...I always want to be with you, even when I'm not there. This way, a part of me always will be," he explained, his eyes never leaving your face.
"It's beautiful," you whispered, lifting it out and holding it towards him. "Would you...?"
With a nod, he stood, moving to your side to fasten the necklace around your neck. His fingers brushed your skin, sending a shiver that had nothing to do with the cold. Once secured, he leaned down, kissing the top of your head softly, whispering, "Perfect."
Sitting back down, Remus reached into another pocket and produced a slightly larger package. "There's more," he added.
As you unwrapped the second gift, you found a luxurious quill, alongside a well-bound book on advanced potion-making, and a selection of your favourite teas.
"Remus, how did you...these are perfect!"
"I'm glad you think so. I love seeing you this happy."
~
After running a few errands, you and Remus returned to the quaint warmth of your cottage. It smelled of lavender  mixed with the earthy scent of the woodsmoke from the fireplace. It smelled home.
You began unpacking in the kitchen, lining up a few ingredients for a simple dinner and setting aside the new teas beside the kettle. The house was quiet, save for the quiet crackle of the fire and the occasional clink of a jar finding its place on the shelf.
Remus watched you for a moment, leaning against the doorway, his eyes tracing the familiar lines of your figure. He walked quietly behind you, slipping his arms around your waist, pulling you back against his chest. You let out a small, surprised gasp, a smile curving your lips as you leaned back into him.
"Did you get everything you needed?" he murmured.
"Mmm," you hummed, feeling the warmth or his body seeping into your back.
Remus leaned down, his lips brushing the skin of your neck, placing tender kisses that made you shiver delightfully. "You smell like cinnamon and winter," he whispered, inhaling deeply as if trying to imprint your essence in his memory. His hold tightened, one of his hands tracing a path up to caress the line of your jaw.
You tilted your head to give him better access, your eyes closing in delight. "Remus," you breathed out.
He responded with a low hum. "I can't seem to get enough of you," he murmured, his lips tracing a path up to your ear, nibbling gently. "Like a man starved."
You turned within his armed, facing him, your hands sliding up to circle around his neck. "You have me. All of me," you said, pressing your body closer to his. You could feel his growing arousal through your layers of clothing, pressing insistently against you.
His eyes darkened, "Oh, I do intend to have you," he replied before scooping you up effortlessly. A spontaneous giggle escaped you as your legs wrapped instinctively around his waist and your arms draped around his neck, allowing him to navigate through the cottage to your bedroom.
The door swung open, and he crossed the room to lay you down on the bed. Standing back, he looked down at you with an intensity that made you squirm. You sat up, reaching out toward him, craving his touch.
Remus shook his head, a playful yet firm "No," escaping his lips. He raised an eyebrow, his voice teasing, "Now, now, where are your manners, young lady?"
Your response was an exaggerated pout, your eyes meeting his in a silent challenge. You never wanted to give in so easily, but the man before you made you quite literally fold. Despite your short-lived attempt to brat him, his presence commanded the room, and you were momentarily stunned by it.
Remus chuckled softly. "I'll give you what you want," he assured you, "but you need to be patient. Good girls are patient."
Patient? That word simply wasn't part of your vocabulary. You tried again to reach for him, your hands stretching out, seeking him. But in a swift movement, you were pushed back onto the bed, your hands pinned above your head as he hovered above you.
"And what did we just learn about patience?" he teased.
Your breath caught, your mind going blank. "T-that it's supposed to be...rewarding?" you stammered.
"Very good," Remus smiled, leaning closer so that his lips nearly brushed against yours. He began removing your clothes, each movement calculated and slow, torturously so, laving you increasingly exposed and vulnerable under his gaze.
Finally bared to him, Remus began to kiss your skin softly, each kiss lingering a little longer than the last. Every so often, he left a gentle mark, a love bite that spoke of possession, love, adoration. His way of saying you belonged to him.
He slowly, agonizingly slowly, made his way down to your most sensitive area, his breath teasing you.
"Remus, please," you whispered. "I can't take it anymore. Please."
"Shh," he soothed, his breath teasing you again as he spoke. "I've got you."
You gasped as your felt his tongue tease at your clit, your hips bucking up involuntarily. He swiftly pinned you back down and pulled back.
"Ah, ah, ah," he said, "it seems someone is forgetting the rules. Patience, my love, is a virtue."
"But Remus- Ah..." you moaned as he used his fingers to spread you open and allow for better access. The tip of his tongue flicked against your sensitive flesh, and a finger was teasing at your entrance.
"Remus..." you whimpered, your fingers tangling in his hair. You felt his lips curl into a smile against you. He trailed his tongue down to your entrance, poking at it, exploring, tasting, savouring, and pushed in. His finger worked your clit gently, barely touching it.
Your hips bucked again, and this time he allowed it. He hummed against you and began to slide his tongue in and out while simultaneously rubbing your sensitive bundle of nerves. Your body was tensing now, your back arching as the pleasure began to build.
Your legs were spread wide, shamelessly, your hips thrusting upward to meet his movements. But Remus is patient. And Remus knows what he is doing. His finger brushes against your clit more firmly, yet not enough. It's teasing, tormenting, and making you yearn for his touch even more.
"Remus...Remus Please." Your voice is breathless, your hands clenched tightly into the blankets.
Remus grins against your skin. He has you exactly where he wants you. He uses the tip of his tongue to swirl around your clit, then flicking over it quickly before retreating. A finger teases your entrance before venturing inside as he increases the pressure of his tongue. You cry out, your body tightening as your climax nears.
With one last flick of his tongue, he pushes you over the edge, your body shuddering as your orgasm rips through you. You breath hitches, your back arching off the bed as you try to hold onto consciousness.
Before you could even form a thought, Remus' clothes had vanished, and he was pushing your legs apart with a growl, his length pressing insistently against your core. He was hungry, keeping his eyes locked onto yours as he slowly entered you.
"You feel so good," he breathed. Your eyes fluttered close as he began to thrust inside you. Slowly. Lovingly. He leaned in to capture your lips, allowing you to taste yourself on him. You moaned into the kiss as he buried himself fully within your warmth.
He groans as he feels your tight, wet heat around him, and his movement become more urgent, his body rocking against yours with increasing speed.
"Don't stop Remus..." you moaned as you felt your second orgasm begin to crest.
He picked up the pace, gripping your waist with a bruising force and slamming into you, his movements bordering desperation.
You clenched around him, moaning his name as you reached your peak again. The sensation made him growl, and his body tensed as he spilled within you, his movements finally slowing down. He collapsed on top of you, his breathing ragged and his heart pounding against your chest.
"Happy birthday, beautiful," he whispered in your ear. "I told you, patience is a virtue."
Jetko fic rec list
Feel free to add your own recs, and if you do read any of these and like them, comment something nice on it! If I find anyone hassling authors for updates I will drop ferrets down your chimney!
Modern AU
the things we leave behind - Mai and Ty Lee start a ghost hunting channel; their roommate, Zuko, cannot stand their new cameraman, Jet. Meanwhile, Zuko's sister just moved into their shared house, and forms a reluctant bond with Zuko's friend, Katara. Multiship, rated M, 200k, complete, HIGHLY recommend (also check out the rest of the author's works! She's amazing!)
never believed in meant to be - Zuko gets in-school suspension and meets Jet, who's cool enough they spend the day together. It's their first and last meeting. Rated T, 5k, complete. (Check out the rest of this author's stuff too!)
you're built to fall (beautiful) - in between the struggles of figuring out life as sixteen-year-old caretaker of kids, Jet finds himself falling in love with a handsome merman. rated T, 8k, complete. Amazingly written <3
paint it red, they'll cover it up anyway - Jet and Zuko are both kindergarten teachers, and both dealing with a lot of complications in their life. and in love. Rated T, 34k, in-progress
Ba Sing Se
up in the city (until the stars lost the war) - canon divergent AU where Jet doesn't see Iroh heat the tea, and Zuko's a little more receptive to city life. Absolutely gorgeous series. Rated T, 50k, in-progress
(Dont) Lose yourself into me - another canon divergent AU! Featuring rebel shenanigans, betrayal and angst all laid out beautifully. Check out the author's other works too, there's some really good ones! Rated T, 80k, in-progress
clay kids - after a misunderstanding about Zuko's - or rather, Lee's - parentage, he and Jet form a relationship built on lies of omission. Rated T, 35k, in-progress
a lesson in new beginnings - the author's summary probably says it best: 'zuko has bad coping skills, jet has a hella crush, and war is hell. welcome to ba sing se.' Very sweet with plenty of angst, drama, and misunderstanding. Rated T, 6k, in-progress
Post-canon
Like The Fire In Your Heart - Zuko's carriage is ambushed by thieves, and he finds that his old friend Jet isn't as dead as certain playwrights would have him believe. Rated M, 9k, in-progress
Miscellaneous
learning how to use a weapon (& other such tragedies) - flood-based apocalypse au! Beautifully written, possibly one of the first jetko fics I read when I was first starting to like Jet as a character. Rated G, 11k, complete
heat and sand - by the same author as above, au where a race of winged beings live among humans, and wouldn't you know it, they're not exactly welcomed by the likes of Ozai. Zuko finds himself taken in by Jet and his freedom fighters. Rated G, 16k, two completed fics. Honestly check out the rest of the author's catalogue it's all A+
Hearthfire- Jet is taken prisoner by the Fire Nation after his village burns. Rather than be put to work or executed, he becomes the young Prince Zuko's ward and they form an unlikely relationship. rated T, in-progress, 41k, covers canon books 1-3.
Perpetual - Jet, not quite mid-redemption arc, kills a firebender. Zuko can't actually die. Jet decides to make this his own problem. Rated M, 180k, in-progress <3
Sthe song in the secret room - haha second lesbeanlatte work on here 😈 a modern/time travel au based off of the Disney channel show Secrets of Sulphur Springs, if it were PG-13 and involved gator-related manslaughter. Hilarious and heart-wrenching 💚 Rated M, 280k, complete
Some further additions found in this reblog
This list will probably get updated if I remember any more or read anything new. And not to shamelessly self-promote but I have a variety of jetko works of my own, linked here if you're interested at all. :)
happy birthday!- hange x reader
CHAT!!! its my best friends birthday. i wrote her a little something!! thank you to this sweet angel for being my first friend on this app. and thank you for dealing with me everyday, i love you so bad. make sure to tell my bff hbd and make sure to check out and support her art🥹💝 i love u @hangespublicist
“happy birthday.” you felt hange come from behind you, kissing down your neck.
you giggle, spitting out your toothpaste. “you scared me!” you wash out your mouth, laughing. “hurry! i got a surprise.” hange ran from the bathroom before you could say anything else. your feet padded against the cold floors, entering the kitchen.
before you was hange, posing, showcasing the kitchen island. your favorite cake was laid out, along with wrapped boxes and bags surrounding them. you covered your mouth, shaking your head. “hange.” you say, slowly walking up to them.
“erwin and levi made the cake!” they clapped happily, watching as your eyes teared up. “this is perfect!” you hug hange, kissing them. they smiled into the kiss, before pulling away quickly. as much as they wanted to kiss you forever, but in this moment they were shaking for you to open your gifts. “open, open!” hange grabbed your waist, pushing you towards the table.
you grabbed a bag, slowly pulling out the gifts from inside. “no way!!” you look up at hange. they had gotten you games that you had been eyeing for your console. “next! next!” hange was just so excited. after a few gifts, hange reached over your head, sliding the bag behind them. “you can’t open that one till tonight!” they sheepishly smiled.
after you two got ready, you headed downtown. hange took you to your favorite crystal shop, where you absolutely went insane and bought all the crystals you had been eyeing for a while. hange even got a crystal bowl with your initials engraved at the bottom, along with your anniversary date.
you guys explored downtown and even found a new favorite coffee shop. there were cats inside and it was like heaven for both of you. and hange knew all along you were not leaving that place without a cat you had befriended. you named them miso. and so with that, you and hange walked out of the cafe with your iced chais with soy milk, and a new friend named miso.
and after a long day of shopping, you two found yourselves at home, playing with the cat. three knocks made you look up, letting go of the small toy mouse. “i’ll get it.” hange smiled, getting up.
“happy birthday, nerd.” you heard from your doorway. there stood levi and erwin, with fresh baked goods in their hands. “guys!!!” you jumped around in excitement, hugging them. levi was severely disappointed that his new neighbor was a cat. or so he says. erwin caught him petting the cat.
the four of you sat around the chimney, wine in your glasses and sharing warm pumpkin cream cheese muffins. you all gossiped and laughed, sharing core memories of your college years.
it was getting late. levi looked down at his watch, pushing his knee against hange. hange shyly looked up at him and erwin, biting their lip down. levi gave hange a stare, eyeing you. hange wiped their hands on their pants, standing up.
you snapped out of your ramble, looking up at hange. god, you were so beautiful. hange could get lost into your eyes forever.
hange slowly got down on one knee, slipping a box out of their pocket. your eyes widened, looking straight down at them. your hands covered your mouth, head shaking.
“…you’ve made me the happiest person to ever live. you’re so funny, kind, beautiful, breathtaking and you are just what i needed in my life. i never would have thought someone could sit there for hours and absorb everything i have ever said, yet here you sit in front of me. when i met you, i knew you’d be the one. you had always been the one. and… before i start rambling again, will you make me a mad scientist and marry me?” hange blushed and their corny line, peeking up at you.
you kissed them quickly, digging your nails into the side of their face. “yes!” you smiled against them. erwin happily grinned, holding levi’s hand. “and here’s that gift from earlier.” erwin chuckled. you pulled away, opening the bag.
you looked up at both all of them, pausing at hange. “we are going to paris?” “happy honeymoon, babe.”
Snow flitted toward the ground; little lifeless flakes of frozen water droplets turned to crispy beauty. The first sign of the approach of true winter. You shivered and pulled your tattered cloak closer toward your body while the hem barely reached your ankles. The basket within your grasp was too heavy, the breaths you drew too cold.
Life would soon turn ruthless beyond compare for you. No home, no family, no sanctuary from the biting chill nor the clinging wetness of melting snow resting upon your shivering shoulders. Yet still, you walked on. The only one left in the world who would possibly offer help lived just beyond the hill you shakily climbed while the ground beneath your feet began to turn white.
Miss Mary had been a friend of your mother. The only one remaining after all the years of seclusion crafted by your father. He had always been a man of madness — of possessive rage, and harsh fists. Life, as you knew it, had always been cruel and unkind. From the moment you were able to hold a broom somewhat upright you’d been put to work by the man who created you and no protection had come from the woman who birthed you. May you burn in the fire pits of hell for all the years to come, you thought as you gripped the wicker basket with whitening knuckles.
The wind whipped your hair about, loosening it from both clips and bonnet alike. You lowered your gaze and trudged on, avoiding the flakes endeavouring to stab your eyes as you came to the top of the hill. You took no time to rest, merely following the road down toward the fork where you would take a left and hopefully within no time at all arrive at the estate. Please, please let Mary be there at this time…
The forking of the road came and went, your body turned nearly numb while the wind picked up all around. Then it appeared, like a fairytale castle nestled between old oaks and stretching walls of moss-covered stone. Light flickered in the windows, a warm glow calling out to stave off the encroaching night as the sun said its farewell and abandoned you.
Your feet felt like blocks of ice as you moved up the narrow stone steps at the back of the building, where servants entered the estate unseen by its owners and guests. You reached out and knocked, your frozen hand feeling the echo of the impact yet the numbness made you wonder if perhaps you’d merely graced the old wood.
The door opened a moment later, a wave of warmth from within flooding you for a second. “Yes?” said the older gentleman while holding a candle up to shed light upon your harrowed face. “Sir, I am Miss Y/n Y/l/n,” you began with a shake to your voice as you shivered profusely. “Does Miss Mary still hold a position in this household?” you enquired while raising your gaze toward the man who seemed somewhat friendly, there was no glare of distaste in his eyes at the very least. “Oh, she does, are you a friend of hers, Miss Y/l/n?” “My mother was, I do not know if she remembers me very well though.” “Well, step inside, Sir Brandon would be most unhappy about keeping a woman out in the cold while waiting,” the man continued and you scrunched your eyebrows, you were not sure who Sir Brandon was beyond being the owner of the estate and a colonel.
The man walked off in a quick stride while you stood just inside the door. You were too cold and wet for the warmth in the servants’ entrance hall to be of any real use to you so you kept shivering while remaining in your wet clothes which still had little flakes of snow stuck in the fibres.
“Goodness me,” a familiar voice said on a gasp. Miss Mary appeared in the doorway with her hand pressed against her chest in something you could only describe as shock. “Miss Mary,” you said with a quiver to your voice. “I’m sorry for appearing in such a manner, without an invitation nor a word of my arrival beforehand,” you continued quietly while you tried your utmost to hold on to the basket while your numb fingers ached with the prickling of needles as the warmth slowly began to thaw you. “Y/n, dear oh dear,” she whispered as she walked up to you, a sweet worry half visible in her features that had you sigh a deep breath of relief.
***
When morning came you were warm and comfortable for the first time since early summer. You hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep in months and the rest had done wonders even if your entire body still ached from the backbreaking work you had managed to procure in recent times.
You wasted no time getting up and dressed. Just as you secured your tattered bonnet a knock came from the door. You opened it only to find Miss Mary with a bundle of neatly folded clothes in her arms, a warm smile tinted with worry gracing her lips.
“These are for you, dear,” she said and stepped inside before you closed the door behind her. “Master Brandon is a fine gentleman and I spoke to him on your behalf, you now hold a position here at Delaford.” You blinked at her words, unable to fully grasp them, or the ease she spoke of her master with. You had yet to meet a kind master; your doubt of the man was not unfounded but not supported either.
“I have work? Here? With you?” you asked, dubious but also relieved beyond measure. Grateful for Miss Mary’s kindness. “Not with me, dear. I am one of five housemaids, I am sectioned to the upper west quarters. I have procured you work as a scullery maid, Cook is a strict woman but fair. She sees hard work and those who do their due diligence under her are rewarded thusly. You will also keep the main fireplace in order, sorting the coal and wood stocking, sweeping the ashes, and polishing the spark guard. Mrs Thatch is old of age and struggles with this task of her allocated quarters, hence it now falls to you,” Miss Mary said, rattling it all off with precision while moving about in your newly acquired room — tugging at the faded curtains, straightening a pillow. The familiarity with her mannerisms and speech was a comfort to you, remembering it from many years ago when you had been but a tiny child.
“Thank you, Miss Mary.” She nodded at you with her tight but kind smile. “Miss Mary,” she said quietly, “been many years since I was called that.” “Oh?” “It’s Mrs Garber now, Y/n. And, as I’m sure you are aware, you are below my station and hence will call me by that name from now on. I shall call you by your first name, as is practice.” You nodded at her words, they weren’t spoken harshly, just in a no-nonsense sort of way.
“Well, Mrs Garber, thank you for all of this. I will do my absolute best so you’re pleased and stay in good grace with the master.” “Oh, I do not doubt it. Now, change into your new clothes after you’ve bathed, you reek of street and dirt. We cannot have that.” You blushed deeply. “I shall do so instantly.” “The kitchen is to the left of where you entered yesterday, you will find your way to Cook on your own?” You nodded and smiled at the kind woman before she left the room with another smile aimed at you.
***
Mrs Garber had been right. Cook was a strict woman, ruling her kitchen with a sense of urgency to everything. But you managed to keep up, managed to not be in the way while doing your tasks around the others flying about with spoons, pots, pans, chopping boards, and all types of food going from one part of the kitchen to another in a flurry.
You were putting back a giant pot you’d just scrubbed to an inch of its life — making the iron nearly shine in the dim light — when Cook told you to pay attention. It was first then you noticed the little bell to your right (one among many) was chiming gently. You wiped your hands, stowed away the rag, and grabbed one of the coal baskets before leaving the hectic kitchen behind. With the heavy basket in a tight grip you silently, stealthily, moved through the estate toward the main part where you’d order the fireplace as the little bell indicated needed doing.
The room was grand, with large pillars lining the walls in stony white and shining floors reflecting the warm glow of the chandelier high above. You did your best to keep to the outskirts, blending in as well as you could with the environment despite there not being anyone in the room. You picked up the pace, sat the heavy basket by the fireplace, and got to work clearing out the old ashes after placing a sheet beneath to protect the flooring.
After emptying everything, sweeping the last bit of dust out, and wiping the grills you leaned in to inspect the stone — making sure there was nothing left — only to look up and see a whole clogging of soot just beyond reach from your seated position. Oh, fabulous… That’ll take me up the chimney to clean. You sighed deeply and grabbed the poker next to the fireplace before crawling inside the fireplace to reach the clogging. T his hasn’t been cleaned in ages.
You squinted, aiming for the clog, only to halt mid-motion. You grabbed your handkerchief and tied it around your face to not inhale whatever was about to come down on you. You grabbed the poker anew, aimed, and jabbed at the nearly rock-hard piece. It took three hard jabs before you broke through the exterior and the heavens rained down soot and ashes atop you.
You didn’t have time to turn away, to back out of the tight space, or even cover your face before you were covered in grey and black. Glorious, perfect, now I’ll be dragging dust and soot all through the house! Mrs Garber will be scolded for making the master hire such a travesty for a scullery maid. I’ll be out on the streets again… Your thoughts swirled while your eyes watered as you kept working on clearing the clogging, you were already a complete mess of chimney soot either way, why not spare the others the suffering if you were already to be scolded for messing up the newly swabbed floors. Your hand fisted, but you resisted the urge to hit the hard surface around you in the tight space, breaking your hand would do nobody any good.
“I believed Santa Claus to be a red-dressed man,” came the most delicious, gravely voice. It echoed all around you in the tight space as your entire body froze. “It seems, I was mistaken,” the man continued and it sounded as if he were even closer. You looked down only to see the most handsome face peering up at you from below.
Your eyes widened, your mouth agape under the handkerchief as you took in the sweet smile, the flowy hair, the hooked nose and gentle eyes. “You are not the mysterious man of Christmas, are you, miss?” he asked and your knees trembled in secret — hidden behind your drab dress that used to be white with a black apron, it was now all grey. You managed to shake your head though, and he chuckled. The sweetest sound ever to grace your ears, amplified by the echo of the chimney you stood in.
“Miss, I believe this is the work of a chimney man, a sweeper.” “I-, I-, Sir, it was clogged,” you managed to say, even if it came out muffled. “I was cleaning the hearth, saw the clog and thought I ought to take care of it. It’s-, it’s a fire hazard. I wouldn’t-, wouldn’t want the grand colonel’s house to burn down, Sir.” “The colonel?” he asked, tilting his head, or, well, he tilted his head further — how was he even looking up at you? He must be bent most awkwardly. “Yes, Sir. The colonel who saw fit to hire even a scullery maid such as I,” you said. “Mrs Garber professes him to be a most wonderful master. I’ve yet to meet the man, but I dare say I shan’t have such a pleasure after the mess I’ve caused… Sir,” you replied in a near ramble, flustered by how the man peered at you most gently. Sweeter on the eyes than any man you’d ever witnessed before. The red coat with golden details you could just hint from his shoulder complimented his skin, his hooked nose was oddly beautiful paired with his strong cheekbones and thin lips.
“A wonderful master, you say, miss?” “Yes, Sir. Mrs Garber told me so.” “Will you step out of the chimney, this position hardly warrants for decent conversation, miss.” “S-sir, I am not one for you to hold decent conversations with, I’m merely a scullery maid.” He chuckled at that, again sending trembles through your already weak knees. “Miss, out of the chimney, if you please,” he said but his voice was gentle and calm, almost a hint of something warm to it. “We shall order a sweeper to visit, you ought not feel the need to take on such a task.”
The man disappeared from the chimney, making you realise his head had been right by those trembling legs of yours, far too close for decency but that was due to the lack of space of course. You drew a steadying breath and began to crouch, backing out of the fireplace with minuscule motions so as not to make the dust flare up. Your foot found the edge of the raised stone and you tried not to turn around too quickly even if your heart hammered at the prospect of seeing the gentleman fully.
You stood up too quickly. Your head banged the edge of the mantel, your other foot stepped right on the edge of the plateau, your trembling knees wobbled and you stumbled out onto to polished floor — your arms flailing, your dress swirling while spreading dust all over. No, no, no! You headed toward the floor in a dusty mess when the man caught you up, his strong body firmly pressed against yours as he took your weight with ease, not even faltering a single step at the sudden impact.
His hands squeezed around your waist, the warmth of his skin penetrating the two layers of fabric almost instantly while a tingle, unlike any other, shot through you. Your hands had grabbed his biceps, strong and unyielding beneath your palms. You blinked rapidly to clear the soot from your lashes while tilting your head only to find him peering down at you with those gentle eyes — a curiosity within them.
“Sir, I’m terribly sorry,” you exhaled shakily as he helped you straighten. Your eyes flickered away from him only to find a literal imprint of dust over his front, outlining you. “I’m terribly, terribly, terribly sorry,” you rushed out in a mere breath as you backed away from him, bowed and your eyes on the polished boots he wore. “Miss, are you well?” he asked while taking a step toward you. “Oh, I’ve made a mess of you, Sir,” you whispered while thoughts of being back out on the street swam through your head in a sea of fear and worry. Surely, the colonel will cast me out, making a mess of a guest of his. A guest so kind and sweet to boot too.
“The floors!” came a shrill old voice from behind you. “Maid! What have you done to the floo— And the colonel! ” the voice shrieked. Your eyes widened, your entire body draining of the warmth his gentle eyes and thunderously gravely voice had inflected upon it. The colonel? You wished to curl up right then and there, to disappear completely. “I’m-, I’m-, I’m so terribly sorry, Sir-, Colonel,” you squeaked, desperate to keep your tears from running down your soot-covered cheeks. It was useless. The clicking of servant heels from behind you, the nearly scrutinizing eyes from the man before you, the shaking of your shoulders, and the lack of breath in your lungs all had you in a vice grip of fear. Last time you left a stain on polished floors you’d endured four lashings over your naked hands. Hands you were now gripping tightly before you, wringing them and spreading the now moist soot all over them.
You couldn’t stay there. You had already made such a mess, made a fool of yourself, and created problems for the very man who employed you — probably out of pity, or worse because Mrs Garber stuck out her neck for you. You did the only thing you could do. You bowed as deep as your body would allow and just as the other servant with the shrill voice reached your side you bolted — spreading dust all around while running towards the kitchens to get to your room where you’d change into your own clothes and leave before any lashing could be given.
“Miss!” came that thunderous voice. “Miss, wait!” he called in a rush that managed to stroke your spine, within your skin. The most pleasurable sound you’d ever heard came from the man who employed you and whose clothes and floors you had just darkened with chimney soot and ashes — as if you were tarnishing the man himself with your very presence in his grand estate.
"Order for Evan!"
If ever Buck was to die of happiness it would be in this moment. For hours he has been craving, yearning for some sort of hot, sugary drink. It started with a call to a chocolate factory and ended with an empty milk carton in the firehouse refrigerator and an apologetic look on Chimney's face.
As soon as Buck got off his forty-eight-hour shift he had made a beeline for the nearest cafe. It was not his usual, he would typically stop at the coffee shop closer to his apartment on his way to work, but this place wasn't busy and Buck is desperate for a sugar hit.
It's because he's so desperate that Buck is taking the first mouthful as he's walking out of the store.
He anticipates the smooth cream and sweet syrup, the spice of cinnamon to balance it all out but the mouthful slides over his tongue like hot, bitter tar and lands in the bottom of his stomach like a rock.
"God–what the?" He sticks his tongue out and tries to rid his mouth of the taste. That is definitely not the coffee that he ordered.
For a brief moment, Buck considers that maybe the universe just knew that he actually wanted black coffee but then decides that that's stupid and the universe is wrong this time because he definitely really wanted the drink he thought he ordered.
So, against every ex-hospitality worker fiber of his being, he turns back to the counter and gets the attention of the barista that served him 'his' drink.
"Hi there," he starts as brightly as he can for seven o’clock in the morning. "I'm so sorry to do this but I think you've given me the wrong drink. I ordered a caramel latte with cinnamon but this is, well, black."
"Oh!" The barista looks shocked for a second as he checks the order dockets on the counter in front of her. "I'm so sorry, I must have–."
"Given him mine." An unfamiliar voice sounds from next to Buck and when he turns he finds what is potentially the most beautiful man in all of the greater Los Angeles area.
The barista nods. "Yes, I'm so sorry. I will remake them both right away."
The man eyes Buck's outstretched hand oddly before saying, "No need." He looks at Buck and Buck's sleep-deprived brain almost gets lost in the chocolate of his eyes. "Do you have any diseases I should know about?"
Buck stops short. "I'm–. What?"
"Diseases." The man says—like that it is a normal thing to ask a stranger. "Are you contagious or anything? I'm in a rush."
"Ah, no. I don't think so."
"Good. I'll just take this one then." And then he reaches for the coffee that is not Buck's coffee but is in Buck's hand and Buck is too baffled to do anything but let him take it. The man disappears from the cafe and Buck is left standing at the counter with his arm still outstretched towards the barista who looks just as confused but shakes herself out of it faster than Buck does.
"I'll remake yours now." He says briskly. "Won't be a minute."
"Ah, yeah. Thanks." Buck mumbles dumbly and turns to see the man's retreating back disappear around the corner.
The barista hands him a new cup a few moments later along with a five-dollar bill, obviously intending to refund him for the mistake, but he tucks it straight into her tip jar, thank you kindly, and then leaves, the bell ringing behind him as he goes.
The perfect bloodweave ending that definitely exists:
Astarion goes to Waterdeep with Gale, they get married and have a wonderful life together. While Gale secretly learns how to undo vampirism (or at least try to make him walk into the sun) Astarion studies and learn how to turn into a bat (and how to fly with the help of Tara of course). One day he succeeds and Gale is surprised to come back home (after an exhausting but fulfilling lesson with his students) to see a cute white bat flying around the living room and squeaking in excitement while Tara cheers him. Gale of course is so proud of him that he even asks if he can show it to his students (but would respect if Astarion wasn't feeling it). Their evenings consists in reading books together while holding lovingly their free hand (some books may have been acquired by Astarion via some rare rogue activities but hey, any book worth stealing if he can see Gale's face lit up with joy and exiting infodumping) or doing their hobbies in front of the chimney (Gale happily knitting and Astarion humming a tune while doing embroidery).
Depending on what Astarion wants to do when he can finally walk back into the sun, he will either come back as a magistrate (this time more careful/helpful) or open a tailor's shop and make beautiful dresses. I bet in the latter he would be hungry for any gossip he can get from his clientele and from partaking lunch (or tea time) with Morena (she adores and spoils him of course) Withers and Tara.
And obviously, they are the cool uncle and wine aunt couple of the Dekarios. You ask them to babysit your child? Get ready to have your kids begging to come back to them again soon because they had a great time.
Enjoy this sweet Bloodweave my friend 👌😌
This paints such a wholesome, beautiful picture. Oh gosh, thank you so much, it's such a gift 😭💜
They would do all these things, yes! A normal, quiet life (with an occasional book heist to liven things up a bit for Astarion!), them expanding upon Gale's wine collection, Gale treating his husband with the best home-made meals to ever exist.
Them discussing the best way to handle the vampiric condition, but Gale always making it clear Astarion's comfort and safety come first.
And gods, yes, the image of him actually mastering his bat form and flying around the tower with Tara is insanely precious! I'm sure it would be her, not Gale, that pushed him to try! 💜
And yes, Astarion returning to 'daylight society' as a tailor was planted in my brain by a series of wonderful art pieces I saw some time ago and can't let it go. It would be so good for him. Like you said, the gossip? Exquisite. Also the ability to give something of himself to so many people?
To make matching outfits for Gale and himself for all kinds of social gatherings? He would make sure they would be the talk of Waterdeep for *weeks*.
But we know Gale would support his every endeavor, so no matter what he would choose they would still be leading their best, happy lives.
