It was supposed to be easy. Just an average mission, find the source of the drug trafficking and get info on a person involved. Two birds with one stone. Little did he know, things would be anything but simple, not for the rest of his life.

The streets of Hong Kong were bustling at this hour. Between the masses of people, colorful signs, and his limited knowledge of Chinese, he almost missed their meeting point. Tucked between a warehouse and boarded up shop, he knew it was her.

His shoes scuffed the concrete as he rounded the corner. Taking care to look casual, Roy continued towards his target.

He couldn’t deny she was beautiful. Her hair was long and full, glistening in the light from the streetlamps. The angle of her cheekbones was as sharp as her nails. She was gorgeous in a brutal sort of way like sunlight glinting off broken glass.

“Got the stuff?” She nodded and he handed her the cash, slipping it into her fingers out of sight of any passersby. Her eyes shone in the evening light as she passed him a small plastic bag. It felt strange going through this routine again, since he had no intention of using anything. But that’s what the CBI wanted, he was only there to be undercover, to use his past connections.

“Thanks.” His finger brushed his badge as he put the bag in his pocket with a glance over his shoulder.

“Same time and place next week?” The red of her lips matched the vibrant signs around them yet she spoke in a cool tone.

“Eager to see me again that soon?” He smirked. “We’ll see--as you can probably tell, I’m a bit of a tourist here.” Roy ran a hand through his hair that was a striking sunset in a sea of black. “You seem like someone who knows a good time, any recommendations nearby?”

The gun concealed at his ankle was suddenly heavy under her gaze.

“I know a place.” Her fingers flicked, pointing further down the road. Roy’s stomach jolted when she grabbed his arm, guiding him across the street past crowds and noisy vendors. Her nails traced the inside of his wrist.

“You can call me Cheshire in this line of work.” Her flingers slipped away, leaving Roy both relieved and disappointed.

“Such mystery, I like that in a woman.” The corners of her mouth turned up at his words.

She turned around, pausing a couple doors down from a club. Red lanterns adorned with gold hung outside another restaurant, their light casting shadows under her cheekbones. There was something dangerous in her eyes, like animal stalking its prey; it was thrilling.

“Well, you’re certainly one yourself, Red.” She smiled like the edge of a knife. “Perhaps we should explore these mysteries together.” She ran her hand along his forearm, sending a tingle of pleasure through his skin.

“I was thinking the same thing.” He tilted his sunglasses down with bravado that came more from his heart pounding than his cover. The words slipped out of his mouth.

“Join me for dinner?”

He could track her down to the trafficking operation another day. His job was to gather intel, and this counted, right? But he couldn’t let his guard down, she wasn’t one of the world’s most dangerous assassins for no reason.

But, if there’s anything Roy knew about himself, he was easily distracted by dangerously beautiful things and giving in to things he shouldn’t.

With hidden identities, secret missions, and deadly skill, they we as similar as they were different. But here in Roy’s hotel room, they could get away from all that.

They’d done this a few times now, days and weeks blending in a tangle of limbs. The morning sun laid down across the bed, caressing bare skin and fabric alike.

He didn’t ask what she did when she disappeared some nights; she never questioned what he was doing in Hong Kong. Delving into the mysteries of Cheshire was his favorite part of the trip so far, whether out dancing in clubs or with her legs wrapped around him.

Right now, she was resting her head on his chest, breath ghosting across his skin. Their bodies seemed to fit together perfectly, soft and sharp in all the right ways.

“Good morning, beautiful…” He ran a hand through her hair, fingertips brushing her skin.

“Call me Jade.”

The picture in her file had left her looking angular, but he could see the softness in her features now, the curve of her cheekbones, the warmth in her eyes. Jade. Like the precious stone so many have fought for. It was fitting for her.

“My new favorite color.” Roy smiled.

Her fingers found his, green talons wrapping around his calloused palms, but where her nails ended her skin was soft. Roy looked up quickly, meeting her amber eyes. Something kind flickered in her expression, and she smiled.

Jade. A pang of guilt flickered in Roy’s chest.

Though he knew the cruelty she was capable of—the CBI had a detailed list—it didn’t seem right to gain her trust like this. He almost wished they hadn’t met this way, that he really was just a tourist meeting a gorgeous woman abroad. That he could tell her his name and he could hear her say it throughout the night.

What if it could be just them, away from mistakes of the past? He pulled Jade closer, her shoulder blade fitting perfectly in his hand. Her body was warm against his and things felt right.

But that was probably just the lust talking. He couldn’t actually feel that way about her, a sociopathic international assassin.

Still, something ached at the thought of deluding her. Every time they went out for dinner or ended up at his hotel room, it itched at the back of his mind. Yet Roy couldn’t help but fall deeper into the charade; what was good for the mission was good for getting to know her better.

Her fingers circled the hair at the nape of his neck, slowly making their way to his head. He felt Jade shift, pulling his head closer until their lips met.

Something light fluttered in Roy’s chest as they kissed.

Her hand made its way onto his cheek and when they finally parted, he was sure that was the sweetest smile he had ever seen.

The man turned around in his chair slowly, rolling a cigarette between his fingers.

“You surprised me Harper, you haven’t screwed up a mission till now, unlike some of our other agents.” He exhaled smoke alongside the insult, lips pursing into a frown.

“I put you on this case because I knew you could handle it and we needed it handled! You know how dangerous she is, how cruel.” Roy nodded, eyes downcast. “Now we have another assassin we’ve just let go, because you lost the trail.”

The man flipped through the file, “-- which I don’t know how you did with all the info we have in here.”

“I’m sorry Sir, I don’t know how it happened either.” Roy put his hand on the back of his neck sheepishly. “One moment she was there, then she was gone.”

Bare skin in the sunlight flashed in his mind.

“I won’t let it happen again.”

Of course!!!

For those that don’t know, in New Earth, Roy was adopted by the shaman of the Tachini Navajo tribe, Brave Bow, and is an active member of that community. While he’s definitely slipped on some of the traditions he was raised with, there’s some that he continues to do, like Lian’s first Laugh cermony or the House blessing ritual. He and Jade also use the Navajo language to communicate about their daughter as needed.

He does really and truly love Jade. Like they’ll joke about their elopement in Vegas with an Elvis impersonator, but he really does love her.

This man has 0 fucks to give at all times, except when it comes to a child’s safety. Doesn’t have to be his child, any child.

He recognizes that Sin is technically his younger adopted sister….but that hurts his head too much

Every year on his sobriety date, he gets a cupcake and candles. Lian helps him blow them out.

He has a, uh, private investigation buisness that helps keep food on the table (definitely hasn’t beaten up any sleezy clients)

Plays the guitar when he’s stressed

He doesn’t view smoking pot as a relapse (and has strict rules for both himself and his daughter when it comes to it)

This man is where Lian’s temper comes from.

When he, Wally, and Dick are in a room together, they are no longer grown men/fathers/husbands. They are boys and will find every way they can to rag on each other.

On off thing with Jason, which works for them.

Goes to Queen Manor once a month with Lian for family dinner.

3x10, a mix of everything, part 1

didn't expect it to happen that fast but HELL YEAH. there's nothing for Nathan to do next to Rupert. Rupert keeps switching his lovers like socks while his wife is still at home with their daughter. come on!! villain arc for Bex and Rebecca when? when is Rupert gonna get killed die and leave Bex all the money??? and then Bex and Rebecca become best friends and raise a daughter together?

Trent being the heart of the team? do you remember how it all started and how wary everyone was of him? do you? it warms my heart, but it warms it twice bc of the clear bond we see between Colin and Trent. like, older queer with younger queer, helping each other out and bonding. their friendship does things to me tbh. it's so very important and intimate and—

in other words, representation matters.

yaaay! also, Trent <3333 again, this warms my heart.

sometimes I really have no idea what this season is doing. i miss them being a dramedy, not a full on sitcom. i'm enjoying this season, but sometimes it's borderline too much. it's out of nowhere and it's not necessary at all.

besties unlocked <3 Trent is such a sunshine, I love him. the way he and Ted share a raised eyebrows look. there is something so wonderful happening between Ted and Trent from the moment they met. it's like they're connected and are being drawn to each other.

girl talk, especially when it involves middle aged men <3 Rebecca as their leader is really something. i love it.

I think Rebecca is being mean to the actual devil. also, why do iphone users love their matte screen cover? why not the regular one?

Trent is so in love with Ted, my goodness. that cute smile. Ted is so freaking oblivious, I need the show to do something about it. i need Ted to learn Trent is in love with him.

this is such a nice shot. something something, the idea of press taking pics of Nate's gf leaving. which at first I thought was kind of nice, but then she leaves with a suitcase and it looks like a breakup of some sort, so not that nice. hm. still, the shot is pretty.

this is such a nice look & I like her hair a lot, but my GOD, how do people wear those minies? it's beyond good and evil for me. shorts i can kinda understand, but skirts? that's... yeah, no.

there you go Jack's "me and Keeley are dating" without asking Keeley first if she wants to announce it and then Jack totally ghosting Keeley. *frustrated high pitched growl* I hate that plotline. if it's their way to push Keeley back towards Roy bc she will no longer be that busy so Roy can't come up with that excuse again, that's a very shitty thing to do. so far I don't see the bigger picture of this. they've been messing up Keeley's storyline this season just like that.

I did get up at 2:45 to watch the episode when it dropped at 3, clearly am still sleep deprived, so this aren't my most coherent thoughts, but I need to get this out of my system so that I have a chance to function at work today lol

Some general thoughts before I look at my boy aka Jamie lol

In general I liked how they handled Colin's and Isaac's story arc. But I had hoped for some acknowledgment of the casual homophobia in 3x3, like … why include it if Isaac doesn’t show any accountability for maybe making the locker room a place that doesn’t feel 100% safe? (but, well, apparently Jamie is the only one who has to show accountability for anything, even if it is not his fault) Aside of this I loved how Isaac fought for him, how he struggled with his anger and how they reconciled at the end. The last scene was definitely the best for me.

Regarding Roy I’m like … that kinda resolved too easily? Like, Rebecca yells at him once and he finally gets his head out of his not-hairy-ass? It just feels kinda undeserved since he had so little development before and none of it seemed to stick for more than one episode. But I liked his conversation with Isaac and the press conference at the end (But unless Roy thinks next episode about what he wants out of life and the answer is “a boyfriend” I do not want it anyway.🤡)

Very sad Rupert didn’t choke on the stolen baklava. Jade seeing right through him? Good for her! Nate making the right call in the end? Bless him!

So, onto Jamie …

There was way too little of him in this episode, but his little back and forth with Sam about who should be Captain was so cute! And how he was supportive of Colin.

But I’m not sure what to think about the “I’m flattered” line—I’m happy for everyone who it landed for and who loved it, but for me the jury’s still out.

On the one hand it shows growth for Jamie—since regardless of his sexuality, I’m convinced his “dad” called him gay or the f-slur or other insults in that vein a copious amount (which I think is the reason he was “it’s just poopeh”, since he is so used to being insulted like that, that he learned to ignore it), so that season 1 Jamie probably would have exploded if someone had insinuated the could be gay. But now he is comfortable enough in his sexuality and self, that it doesn’t bother him and he can joke about it.

On the other hand, it is neither a yes or no, and if it is not addressed in the next episodes, and left ambiguious, I’ll be so pissed at this cheep queerbaiting.

I still have some tiny sliver of hope something might happen in the next episodes to confirm he is bisexual, but I’m somehow less confident now than I was before this episode and hope is wearing thin, since I’ve just been burnt too often by actors joking about ships, and queer readings of characters being acknowledged on a show with something ambiguous, that in the end turns out to be never been more than queerbaiting jokes (and that part just read so much like it could have been no more than a nod at the fandom and a joke …).

I hope that Ted Lasso is better than that, it’s 2023 ffs, but with only three episodes to go and so much to resolve … (I’ll have to go back to writing fanfics, since I won’t get the epic stuff I wanted since there just isn’t enough time left…)

I'd say (and idk for sure) we're gonna eventually get a bittersweet OR sad ending for certain characters but nothing tragic.
