Of course!!!

For those that don’t know, in New Earth, Roy was adopted by the shaman of the Tachini Navajo tribe, Brave Bow, and is an active member of that community. While he’s definitely slipped on some of the traditions he was raised with, there’s some that he continues to do, like Lian’s first Laugh cermony or the House blessing ritual. He and Jade also use the Navajo language to communicate about their daughter as needed.

He does really and truly love Jade. Like they’ll joke about their elopement in Vegas with an Elvis impersonator, but he really does love her.

This man has 0 fucks to give at all times, except when it comes to a child’s safety. Doesn’t have to be his child, any child.

He recognizes that Sin is technically his younger adopted sister….but that hurts his head too much

Every year on his sobriety date, he gets a cupcake and candles. Lian helps him blow them out.

He has a, uh, private investigation buisness that helps keep food on the table (definitely hasn’t beaten up any sleezy clients)

Plays the guitar when he’s stressed

He doesn’t view smoking pot as a relapse (and has strict rules for both himself and his daughter when it comes to it)

This man is where Lian’s temper comes from.

When he, Wally, and Dick are in a room together, they are no longer grown men/fathers/husbands. They are boys and will find every way they can to rag on each other.

On off thing with Jason, which works for them.

Goes to Queen Manor once a month with Lian for family dinner.

It was supposed to be easy. Just an average mission, find the source of the drug trafficking and get info on a person involved. Two birds with one stone. Little did he know, things would be anything but simple, not for the rest of his life.

The streets of Hong Kong were bustling at this hour. Between the masses of people, colorful signs, and his limited knowledge of Chinese, he almost missed their meeting point. Tucked between a warehouse and boarded up shop, he knew it was her.

His shoes scuffed the concrete as he rounded the corner. Taking care to look casual, Roy continued towards his target.

He couldn’t deny she was beautiful. Her hair was long and full, glistening in the light from the streetlamps. The angle of her cheekbones was as sharp as her nails. She was gorgeous in a brutal sort of way like sunlight glinting off broken glass.

“Got the stuff?” She nodded and he handed her the cash, slipping it into her fingers out of sight of any passersby. Her eyes shone in the evening light as she passed him a small plastic bag. It felt strange going through this routine again, since he had no intention of using anything. But that’s what the CBI wanted, he was only there to be undercover, to use his past connections.

“Thanks.” His finger brushed his badge as he put the bag in his pocket with a glance over his shoulder.

“Same time and place next week?” The red of her lips matched the vibrant signs around them yet she spoke in a cool tone.

“Eager to see me again that soon?” He smirked. “We’ll see--as you can probably tell, I’m a bit of a tourist here.” Roy ran a hand through his hair that was a striking sunset in a sea of black. “You seem like someone who knows a good time, any recommendations nearby?”

The gun concealed at his ankle was suddenly heavy under her gaze.

“I know a place.” Her fingers flicked, pointing further down the road. Roy’s stomach jolted when she grabbed his arm, guiding him across the street past crowds and noisy vendors. Her nails traced the inside of his wrist.

“You can call me Cheshire in this line of work.” Her flingers slipped away, leaving Roy both relieved and disappointed.

“Such mystery, I like that in a woman.” The corners of her mouth turned up at his words.

She turned around, pausing a couple doors down from a club. Red lanterns adorned with gold hung outside another restaurant, their light casting shadows under her cheekbones. There was something dangerous in her eyes, like animal stalking its prey; it was thrilling.

“Well, you’re certainly one yourself, Red.” She smiled like the edge of a knife. “Perhaps we should explore these mysteries together.” She ran her hand along his forearm, sending a tingle of pleasure through his skin.

“I was thinking the same thing.” He tilted his sunglasses down with bravado that came more from his heart pounding than his cover. The words slipped out of his mouth.

“Join me for dinner?”

He could track her down to the trafficking operation another day. His job was to gather intel, and this counted, right? But he couldn’t let his guard down, she wasn’t one of the world’s most dangerous assassins for no reason.

But, if there’s anything Roy knew about himself, he was easily distracted by dangerously beautiful things and giving in to things he shouldn’t.

With hidden identities, secret missions, and deadly skill, they we as similar as they were different. But here in Roy’s hotel room, they could get away from all that.

They’d done this a few times now, days and weeks blending in a tangle of limbs. The morning sun laid down across the bed, caressing bare skin and fabric alike.

He didn’t ask what she did when she disappeared some nights; she never questioned what he was doing in Hong Kong. Delving into the mysteries of Cheshire was his favorite part of the trip so far, whether out dancing in clubs or with her legs wrapped around him.

Right now, she was resting her head on his chest, breath ghosting across his skin. Their bodies seemed to fit together perfectly, soft and sharp in all the right ways.

“Good morning, beautiful…” He ran a hand through her hair, fingertips brushing her skin.

“Call me Jade.”

The picture in her file had left her looking angular, but he could see the softness in her features now, the curve of her cheekbones, the warmth in her eyes. Jade. Like the precious stone so many have fought for. It was fitting for her.

“My new favorite color.” Roy smiled.

Her fingers found his, green talons wrapping around his calloused palms, but where her nails ended her skin was soft. Roy looked up quickly, meeting her amber eyes. Something kind flickered in her expression, and she smiled.

Jade. A pang of guilt flickered in Roy’s chest.

Though he knew the cruelty she was capable of—the CBI had a detailed list—it didn’t seem right to gain her trust like this. He almost wished they hadn’t met this way, that he really was just a tourist meeting a gorgeous woman abroad. That he could tell her his name and he could hear her say it throughout the night.

What if it could be just them, away from mistakes of the past? He pulled Jade closer, her shoulder blade fitting perfectly in his hand. Her body was warm against his and things felt right.

But that was probably just the lust talking. He couldn’t actually feel that way about her, a sociopathic international assassin.

Still, something ached at the thought of deluding her. Every time they went out for dinner or ended up at his hotel room, it itched at the back of his mind. Yet Roy couldn’t help but fall deeper into the charade; what was good for the mission was good for getting to know her better.

Her fingers circled the hair at the nape of his neck, slowly making their way to his head. He felt Jade shift, pulling his head closer until their lips met.

Something light fluttered in Roy’s chest as they kissed.

Her hand made its way onto his cheek and when they finally parted, he was sure that was the sweetest smile he had ever seen.

The man turned around in his chair slowly, rolling a cigarette between his fingers.

“You surprised me Harper, you haven’t screwed up a mission till now, unlike some of our other agents.” He exhaled smoke alongside the insult, lips pursing into a frown.

“I put you on this case because I knew you could handle it and we needed it handled! You know how dangerous she is, how cruel.” Roy nodded, eyes downcast. “Now we have another assassin we’ve just let go, because you lost the trail.”

The man flipped through the file, “-- which I don’t know how you did with all the info we have in here.”

“I’m sorry Sir, I don’t know how it happened either.” Roy put his hand on the back of his neck sheepishly. “One moment she was there, then she was gone.”

Bare skin in the sunlight flashed in his mind.

“I won’t let it happen again.”

Task Force What? An Incomplete (Yet Still Very Long) Guide to Some of the DCU’s Government Groups [Part 2]

Welcome back to my writeup on 13 of the DCU's government organizations. Recognizing that everything in Part 1 was a ton of information to parse through, here’s a rough timeline of some of the groups’ movements and reorganizations. This time, I’ve put important people’s names in bold so you can track them. Again, much thanks to my editors and beta readers.

1940s-1980s

During WWII, Squadron S earns the nickname “The Suicide Squad” due to its high morality rate. Rick Flag Sr. is brought in to turn the squadron around, eventually making it a highly decorated and effective unit.

Senator McCarthy tries to force the Justice Society of America to unmask. They refuse, instead choosing to go into hiding.

Without the Justice Society to protect the U.S. from “extraordinary” threats, the President authorizes the creation of Task Force X. This group consisted of two wings: Argent and The Suicide Squad.

Rick Flag Sr. is killed in action during a Suicide Squad mission. This version of the Squad is disbanded.

Control, the leader of Argent, kills someone involved in JFK’s assassination. He subsequently directs Argent to go underground.

A new version of the Suicide Squad is formed, led by Rick Flag Jr. This version disbands after a mission in Cambodia. Flag’s supervisor reveals that the Squad was ultimately doomed anyway due to budget cuts.

At some point during the Cold War, Spyral is formed by the U.N., led by Otto Netz.

Project Cadmus is founded.

Sarge Steel becomes a leader in, if not the director of, the Central Bureau of Intelligence.

Katherine Webb Kane becomes Batwoman to try to uncover Batman’s identity for Spyral.

The Agency is founded by Valentina Vostok. The Agency’s work includes Project: Peacemaker.

Roy Harper joins the Central Bureau of Investigation. He meets Jade Nguyen through his work with the CBI.

Katherine Webb Kane is apparently killed by Ben Turner, the Bronze Tiger, while he is under the control of the League of Assassins.

Otto Netz is revealed to be a double agent and is imprisoned.

Mr. Bones is a quasi-member of Infinity Inc., legacy heroes springing from the Justice Society.

1980s-2000s

Amanda Waller presents her plan to reactivate Task Force X. This new Suicide Squad will use supervillains for high risk, covert missions. The Agency will be brought into Task Force X and subsequently reorganized as Checkmate, though Project: Peacemaker remains independent.

Rick Flag Jr. is made field leader of the Suicide Squad. Ben Turner, seeking atonement, becomes his second in command.

Sarge Steel is officially the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Harry Stein is made King of Checkmate.

Amanda Waller and her Suicide Squad discover the remenants of Argent. With the majority of its members gone, Argent is officially declared to be disbanded.

The Janus Directive occurs. Massive reorganizations happen.

Task Force X is dissolved as an umbrella organization.

Amanda Waller is left in charge of the Suicide Squad.

Harry Stein remains as King of Checkmate, but they are forced to relocate. Project Peacemaker is incorporated into Checkmate.

Sarge Steel is made the Director of Metahuman Affairs, and is the direct supervisor for all other metahuman related agencies. He continues to oversee the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Amanda Waller disbands her Suicide Squad.

After the death of Superman, Project Cadmus tries to clone him. This results in the creation of Superboy.

Project Cadmus fires “mad scientist” Dabney Donovan.

A “clone plague” begins to affect Project Cadmus creations. This is revealed to be the creation of Dabney Donovan, who kills Paul Westfield.

Mickey Cannon becomes the new head of Project Cadmus. He keeps Dabney Donovan as an imprisoned scientific advisor and brings in geneticist Serling Roquette.

Harry Stein resigns as King of Checkmate. Phil Kramer and Kalia Cambell are made King and Queen, respectively.

Roy Harper leaves the CBI.

Mr. Bones is made the Director of the Department of Extranormal Operations.

Cameron Chase joins the Department of Extranormal Operations.

The Department of Extranormal Operations subcontracts A.P.E.S members Donald Fite and Ishido Maad for a recovery mission.

Lex Luthor becomes president.

Amanda Waller replaces Sarge Steel as Secretary of Metahuman Affairs in the Luthor Administration.

Knightwatch, a more militaristic branch of the Department of Extranormal Operations, protects the U.S. President from metahuman threats.

Director Bones manipulates the Justice Society into going against Kobra on the DEO’s behalf. This is not well received by the JSA.

Lex Luthor starts the Human Defense Corps to try to build a non-metahuman response team to extraordinary threats.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is absorbed into the Department of Extranormal Operations.

Sarge Steel becomes the head of the Department of Metahuman Affairs, a subdivision of the DEO.

Sasha Bordeaux is recruited into Checkmate by Jessica Midnight.

David Said is promoted to King

Helena Bertinelli is blackmailed by David Said into accepting a position as a Queen in Checkmate.

Lex Luthor leaves the White House. Amanda Waller subsequently leaves her position as Secretary for Metahuman Affairs.

Director Bones and Cameron Chase recruit Kate Spencer, the Manhunter, to work for the Department of Extranormal Operations.

Maxwell Lord becomes Black King of Checkmate.

Infinite Crisis happens.

Maxwell Lord kills Ted Kord once Kord uncovers Lord’s plot to use Checkmate against metahumans.

Sasha Bordeaux sends Batman evidence of Kord’s death, leading Lord to activate the OMACs to try to exterminate all Checkmate agents and metahumans on Earth.

Maxwell Lord is killed by Wonder Woman.

One Year Later

After Checkmate is rechartered as a U.N. organization, Amanda Waller is made White Queen. Due to her involvement in the Luthor White House, the U.N. only agrees to let Waller into Checkmate if she does not run operations. This means she cannot run any operations. The other initial leaders of this new Checkmate are Sasha Bordeaux, Alan Scott, and Taleb Beni Khalid.

Wonder Woman joins the Department of Metahuman Affairs in her new identity as Diana Prince.

Alan Scott resigns from Checkmate, tapping his Bishop–Michael Holt–to be the new White King.

Despite being prohibited from running operations, Amanda Waller reactivates a Suicide Squad and begins Operation: Salvation Run.

Once other Checkmate officials find out what Amanda Waller is up to, she is forced to resign from Checkmate. However, by that point, most supervillains had been deported via Operation: Salvation Run.

Squad K is developed out of the Human Defense Corps to specifically deal with Kryptonian threats.

After the events of Brightest Day, Maxwell Lord returns to life. He erases most of the world’s memory of him and begins a discrediting campaign against Checkmate in an attempt to regain power.

Talia al Ghul creates the Leviathan Organization. She frees Otto Netz from his imprisonment so that he can assist Leviathan.

Batman Incorporated begins to move against Leviathan, clearing the organization out of St. Hadrian’s Finishing School for Girls.

Damian Wayne kills Otto Netz to save Batman from a trap.

The New 52 Happens

Spyral takes control of St. Hadrian’s

Katherine Webb Kane reveals that she faked her death to lead Spyral in secret.

A.R.G.U.S. is founded to support metahumans at the federal level.

Dick Grayson is unmasked as Nightwing, and is recruited by Helena Bertinelli to be an agent of Spyral.

Bertinelli and Grayson leave Spyral. Tiger becomes the new Patron of Spyral.

Of course!! Sorry about the radio silence lately, lol been a crazy few months

When she’s younger, she attends public school. Then about middle/high school, she transfers to a private school with a kick ass music program (Ollie pays the tuition). Her only issue with it is the uniforms.

Since Jade’s specializes in poisons, and she used them throughout her pregnancy, Lian has a natural immunity to some poisons. Nothing like cyanide or arsenic, but enough to freak people out 😂

She’s the oldest of the Menaces, as she, Mar’i, and the twins are lovingly referred to as. She is very protective of them, especially Mar’i when she first starts coming around.

Every time Jade comes home, she and Lian spend all day together. Lian tells her everything that’s been going on and Jade just…she listens to her daughter.

Lian will fake being asleep so Dad, Mom, Uncle Jason, or Aunt Donna have to carry her to bed. (They always know she’s faking but one day won’t ask anymore)

She couldn’t say “Aunt Donna” as a toddler, so she called her “Nonna”

Has never been a morning person. Roy used to joke that getting her up was more dangerous than hostage negotiations.

Always steals her dads baseball caps…and tells him he’s lame for wearing them 😂

When she found out Jai was being beaten up by some older boys (they’re about 8-9, older boys 12), she waited for them with him. Helped fight them off, called two of them pussies and told another he was a dickface. The second the older boys’ parents showed up, she started crying and going on about how they were hurting her friend and she was just scared for Jai and wanted to help him. It was an Oscar worthy performance and it worked

From the Galaxy of Justice, I present the Lazarus Guild. A secret branch of the Bounty Hunter's Guild, Lazarus will take the jobs other guilds wouldn't.

1st picture: Group shot

2nd picture: Talia Al Ghul, current leader of the guild, with the title Demon's Head. Jade Nguyen, Talia's right hand and a silent killer. Xesh: Mysterious merc wearing stolen Mando armor.

3rd picture: The heavy hitters. Bane, strong and deadly with an electrostaff. Floyd Lawton, ex-Imperial sharpshooter, he can blast a finger off a jawa from Kilometers away. Slade, a dangerous hunter who can track anything. Lobo, the most brutal hunter in the guild, made a name for himself taking contracts on Jedi and succeeding.

4th: The deserters. Ravager, Roy Harper, Jason Todd, Artemis Crock, and Cassandra Cain. All of them left the guild and joined the Rebel Alliance

Concept: Donna Troy x Roy Harper Step family.

Both Donna and Roy have always been sweet on each other since they were kids, but their lives took divergent paths. Despite this, they do get together later in life.

When they do, they both have kids from a previous relationship. Donna has a son, Robert. Robby’s father, Terry was Donna’s fiance for a while, but he died in a car crash.

Roy has a daughter, Lian. Her mother, Jade, is still alive, but is serving out a sentence in Belle Reve.

Donna and Roy end up reigniting their romance and create a step family. Roy teaches Robby the skills and traditions he learned in the Navajo Reservation he grew up on. Donna teaches Lian the ways of the Amazons. Lian and Robby and up developing a brother sister relationship.

(Don’t worry about Jade though, she’s happy Roy found someone he can rely on. And she’s glad the woman raising her daughter is a badass. Even so, Lian still visits Jade in prison every couple months.)
