ch. xxxii - big bird maybe

where love and peace is held, i never expected for this to happen. i planned and i planned, i expected, and i hoped, but it was never you. you held what i wanted hostage to make room for you, the thing that i needed but has no means of acceptance. deny me, live your best life.

Having worked with Kijoong and experiencing the many emergencies Hongjooong involved you in, you had gotten Kijoong's night routine down to the T.

Sure, there were some setbacks like how Kijoong demanded that he wanted his daddy to tuck him in and you had to negotiate with him. No matter the headache the boy induced, you found yourself still falling for his absolute adorableness. Unfortunately, you see some of those attributes on his father (which you can never nor were you ever planning on telling him). So even when Kijoong (somehow) crawled on top of the kitchen counter as you got his PJs out, you still managed to kindly get him down and scold him yet again.

His damn pout was enough to melt your whole resolve. That and the way he cupped your face and patted your cheeks gently as he said he was not bad. Like his father, Kijoong tends to not really mean his apologies. While you can hear them both say sorry, they tend to say it as more of a courtesy as opposed to an actual admission of guilt. You had a working theory that they do so in hopes that when they do make an admission of guilt, people would appreciate them more.

"Okay, here we go buddy," you grunted slightly as you carried the giggling, wiggling boy down on his dad's bed. Though Kijoong has his own bed in his room, he still sleeps in his dad's bed at night. You adored the fact that they stuck so. Even when it was just the two of them, they try to make what they have an actual family. Sometimes you feel bad for the way people mock and poke at Hongjoong for being so dedicated to his job. For one thing, it wasn't his fault that he was good at his job and that he was a genius at what he does. With the talent that he has, of course people would want him to help them. Though he was on track to becoming an attending, he still had to jump through hoops to prove himself despite people's praises. Despite that, he still spend what spare time he had to ask about Kijoong. Heck, he'd video call him through you whenever he could. Just the other day, when Hongjoong was stuck fixing a botched spinal tap, he managed to have the nurse hold his phone as he sing Kijoong to sleep because he had promised Kijoong that he would. Maybe after a while, you found yourself liking this nanny job.

"Dad?" Kijoong asked after his giggles died down, trying to push the blanket off of him to tease you. His big eyes destroyed all possibilities of you being annoyed at him even when you had to tuck him in for the eight time. "Your daddy has an association event tonight," you said, sitting down next to him on the bed while tilting your head to the side and smiling down at him.

Kijoong liked it when you used big words on him. It made him feel like his dad who's a big professional who used words on a daily basis, it made him feel like he was taking a part in his dad's world.

With pursed lips, Kijoong looked between you and the door multiple times until you understood what he meant. "Oh ho ho, no, mister, you are not staying up tonight to see your daddy come back home," you scoffed, bracing yourself to anticipate if Kijoong decided he wanted to make a run for it. "Why not?" he huffed, frowning deeply which reminded of you that time Hongjoong saw you cooking while carrying Kijoong on your hips. "Because last time you stayed up to wait for your daddy I had to deal with you being cranky the next day and I do not enjoy working with pouty children," you teased him, poking him on the nose to accentuate your words which thankfully made Kijoong scrunch his nose and giggled instead.

Without needing to negotiate more (thankfully), you watched as Kijoong make himself comfortable before curling into your touch, letting drowsiness slowly take over him. You scooted closer and began stroking the boy's head, enjoying the rare time he was quiet and calm, looking like any other child on earth and not a child who has psychological and behavioural issues. At times like this, Kijoong looked like an angel.

"(y/n)," he called out softly, forcing you to snap from your little daydream, "Yeah buddy?" Kijoong peeked through his lashes up at you, "Are you gonna stay?" he asked, voice sounding like he was afraid. You furrowed your eyebrows at him, "Of course, buddy. I'll be here until you fall asleep," you smiled, trying to comfort him only for him to shake his head. "No! Are you staying long?" he asked again, letting you know that he was asking whether or not you were staying with him for the long run.

That took you by surprise.

When you accepted the job offer from Hongjoong, you were always under the impression that your employment was momentary. He wasn't giving you much of an option and you still wanted to become a nurse. You had taken the job with the expectation that it was merely short-term but what you didn't expect was genuinely loving the boy who had found it in himself to trust you since the moment he met you.

Of course, you had yet to plan your exit what with not even having an exact timeline of your departure from Kijoong's life. You had always thought that you'd have more time.

But at that moment, being asked like that directly from him. something felt heavy in your chest.

Kijoong was growing more anxious about you not answering him. So he wrapped his fingers around your pinky and ring finger, "I'll be good, promise," he added.

Your heart broke slightly at him practically begging you to stay.

You couldn't help but swoop down and plant a soft peck on the top of his head and envelop him in a hug.

"I'll stay here until you don't need me anymore, okay? Until then, you just be yourself because I love you for who you are. Don't you even worry your little head," no matter how much you tried to hold it in, your emotion still spilt out and your voice cracked slightly.

Kijoong curled more into you and he even held your hand tighter. "Don't go like mommy," he said and you felt your breath hitched at the sudden mention of his mom.

It was always a mystery to you about what happened to his mom but you never wanted to pry especially since Hongjoong never really mentioned his mom to you. And based on what you heard, Kijoong wouldn't have been able to know much about his mom either. Even if he did, why would you ask such a question to a child?

A child who was clearly severely affected by the absence of his mother.

For now, even as a substitute, you allowed him to rest in your embrace. You allowed him to feel the embrace of a woman who cared for him for once.

Knowing what could happen in the future, it was the least you could do for him.

Machine 47

I was able to find more information on Machine 47 thanks to a Russian Knock-knock VK group. One user stated that only IPL was bound by the non-disclosure agreement and that users can post freely about it, and thankfully one of the backers (who I will credit below) documented a lot about it!

Disclaimer: I do not speak Russian at all and everything I was able to learn was through Google translate. Sorry if anything was misinterpreted.

The gist: Machine 47 was a reward for the $47 tier on Kickstarter. It’s a 3D room consisting of a chair, a clock, and a book. The user is to write down a wish in the book and stamp it - the instructions were to write a wish centered on the self instead of others. Then, the user is to leave through the door.

Occasionally, the clock would speed up, but once the user wrote their wish down, the clock would stop. I think the clock also corresponded with the user’s PC time; I'm not sure how exactly this worked with the user's PC time and how it was able to keep corresponding with it...

I’m not sure what else it was supposed to do, sadly. I couldn’t find anymore info. However, thanks to VK user Ilya Batischev (Ilia Batishchev on YouTube) there is a video and also a file with instructions on how to use the Machine (I will put both under the read more) as well as a screenshot of the notebook in which the user was to put their wish:

Lastly, here are the translated instructions. They come from a file called 47_RUS.rtf:

Redownloaded Echo on my phone to check if I still had my old saves and reread Flynn's epilogue because something has been nagging me. Thankfully they're still there (though I wish the dates weren't all changed to today, oh well). Ended up spitballing a lot of messy thoughts about Flynn Epilogue!Chase.

Heavy Echo spoilers below.

I think the commonly accepted theory is that everyone cut Chase out of their lives once his crime of murdering Sydney was exposed but having reread Flynn's epilogue just now I kinda disagree. In fact, it's far more likely that the opposite is true.

Leo, TJ, Jenna, and Carl didn't cut Chase out of their lives. Chase cut himself out of their lives.

Now admittedly both can be true. On my file, Leo is still living in Echo cause I spoke to Daxton instead of him, but on one video I could find Chase outright says that he doesn't know how Leo is doing cause the latter doesn't speak really speak to him anymore.

But that doesn't really confirm that Leo cut Chase out, although it can imply it. But I think it can imply the reverse. Because Chase could talk to him too. And in my file (the Leo is still in Echo file) Chase's response to Devon asking if Leo is still in Echo because he couldn't sell his property due to the hysteria is to say "Mhm. Well, that and some other shit that we don't really need to get into."

This strikes me as Chase being incredibly avoidant and cagey about his friends. His next line has him refer to Flynn as "one other guy" (in response to Devon expressing sympathy that Chase and Leo had to grow up gay in Echo). And, then right after, Chase asks if he could smoke, then very slowly lights his cigarette, which strikes me as very "I don't wanna talk more about my friends, can we please move on."

This is in direct contrast to the fact that Chase is rather okay with talking about the 2015 Echo hysteria to the point of having two random college students meet him at Echo so they can make a Youtube Vlog about it. He admits to have watched Devon's own video of Echo (which used Chase's footage). And he gives a rather detailed explanation of the mines and how the fire that consumed Flynn happened five years ago. He's not avoiding Echo, but he's avoiding his friends.

Why? Very likely out of guilt, the fear of being rejected, and deep paranoia of the potential consequences. So Chase thought it was better to deal with it by being the one to lose their numbers. One of the saddest scenes in the epilogue is when Cameron and Devon see how miserable Chase is and try to comfort him to which the narration goes into Chase's feelings which in a nutshell are: "I see why Cameron likes Devon, he's so supportive" "I wish I had someone like that again" "I find myself feeling happy that Cameron is giving me physical comfort and he and Devon being considerate of my feelings" "I didn't realize I was so starved for compassion affection care touch".

It all caps off in this incredibly telling line: "Still, Chase can't help but avoid their reassuring gazes, the otter rubbing at the old spider mark at his neck." Chase doesn't believe that he deserves comfort, friendship, compassion, or kindness. The spider scar is a reminder of what Chase feels he deserves, to be abandoned in his own hell for his transgressions.

Then there's the bit when the trio go to the mines where Chase gives is very informative about the nature of the mines and how the fires that happened in their five years ago might have come to be. But when it comes to being asked about why Flynn went into the inferno, Chase clams up and leaves.

Chase killed Sydney who was Flynn's best friend. And Flynn died shortly after learning this. I wonder if Chase links these together and thus feels responsible for Flynn's death or at the very least feels a tremendous amount of grief knowing that he can never gain closure from him, whether it be by Flynn killing him in retribution (which I think is what Chase believes he would do and what Chase believes he deserves very deep down under all his avoidance of responsibility and paranoia of the consequences of his actions) or the (as Chase might see it) pipe dream of Flynn forgiving him (which I don't believe Chase thinks would ever happen).

So he just flakes rather than try to deal with it, even though Devon and Cameron have no knowledge about all that and are in absolutely no position or have any investment in judging him for it. Even though the question actually had no bearing on Chase's own actions, just Flynn's, which Chase had absolutely no control and influence over. Chase catastrophized what the outcome of him answering the question would be and left rather than confront it.

And I think that's exactly what Chase did to his friends. He left because he couldn't bring himself to truly confront what he did partly out of intense fear of what he saw were inevitable deadly consequences for himself and partly out of intense guilt.

Idk, I just feel that Chase being abandoned without any attempt from his friends to reach out to him doesn't fit at all. In fact, it ends up proving TJ Route!Chase right. His life would be 100% over if the secret ever came out so he has to continue running in circles of avoidance, denial, and burying the secret via any means. But would it really be?

I think this parallels him with Flynn himself. Both men end up destroying themselves due to their own obsessions blinding them to the potential path of healing and moving on. While Flynn's destruction is much more visceral and horrifying, Chase's is much more subtle and mundane. Flynn literally burns to death and his personhood is destroyed by the supernatural forces of Echo, forced into a timeless hell with seemingly no hope for him to attain freedom much as he would want to get out. Chase regains full control of himself from Echo's supernatural forces but deliberately denies himself any hope of finding happiness or freedom from his pain and would very much love to be sent to hell. And neither man are given the answers they so desperately want.

This was a rather messy rant and I feel like I have more to say and didn't put my points across that well but it's getting late and I wanna put out something.

Renewal of Hikaru’s Official Fan Club

So many new announcements. Check out my posts covering all the recent news about Hikaru HERE and HERE.

New Name “agiato”

Yesterday I wasn’t quite sure what they meant with the term “renewal” and how it would affect the fan club and its current content. I was fairly certain that the content would remain the same since the announcement sounded more like a transition and not so much like a complete new start. Turns out that I was more or less right, Hikaru’s fan club hasn’t changed as far as its content is concerned, it just went through a nice little makeover. The site design and name have been changed completely. “Masani Hikaru” is now “agiato”. Hikaru explains in her little update video (fan club exclusive) that she has chosen the Italian term “agiato” for two reasons. The word on its own means relaxed/comfortable, this reflects the manner in which she would like to interact with her fans in this exclusive space. The term is also used in music theory to describe when something is being played quickly with agitation and excitement. This refers to the many rather sudden changes that have occurred and which will continue to occur in the near future. While things are bound to change, Hikaru reassures her fans that her fundamentals will remain the same.

New Layout

In accordance to the new fan club name, the layout of the website has been updated as well and I personally think it looks much better now. The previous design was very much in your face/over the top and while it looked cute, I don’t really think it did a good job of representing Hikaru’s personality or image as an artist. The new layout is the epitome of understated elegance with a bit of fun and colour thrown into the mix. The heavier focus on music makes it clear where Hikaru’s priorities lie.

Monthly Membership Plan

In addition to the currently existing annual membership plan there will be a new monthly membership plan due to many fan requests. Right now they are really pushing the fan club and want new people to join so if you have hesitated in the past, please use this opportunity to become a member! It doesn’t make a difference whether you join on an annual or monthly plan, you will have access to the exact same content. A special present will be sent to all members with an existing annual plan as well as to everyone who joins the renewed fan club on a monthly plan from November 1-30. [I wonder what will happen if you didn’t enter a Japanese address upon registration…? I am pretty sure they won’t be sending presents overseas. Thankfully I did enter my Tenso address!]

※Due to the system, annual members can also register as monthly members. Please note that you will be registered twice (with your annual membership still ongoing until next year). ※If you change from an annual membership to a monthly membership, your current membership number and previous records cannot be carried over. If you are interested in a monthly plan, please switch plans at the renewal timing next year.

I am a little confused though because on “My Page” it says my next payment is due on November 10. If I am understanding the instructions correctly, my membership should last until June next year. I am not planning to change to a monthly plan so I’ve no idea what this is supposed to mean...

Christmas Live

In her newest fan club video, Hikaru also announced that she will be holding an event in December! I am not quite sure if this will be a fan club exclusive event (since she announced it only on her fan club site?) or if anyone will be able to attend...No details have been revealed yet as far as the exact date is concerned but the live will apparently take place around Christmas time. Gladly! This is my favorite DR atm it’s just great all around honestly.

Fair warning, this is a long post!

Onto my backstory!

So basically, when I was a kid a new rogue popped up with some memory-altering gas and organized a really nasty attack on Gotham. I got caught up in the attack and got my memories fully taken away. So I just kinda wandered around Gotham until Robin found me and Batman decided to take me in (my only DR with a “stable” father figure! Let’s gooooo).

I was really young, and Dick was still Robin, so I wasnt supposed to be a vigilante, but fuck than amiright? I started following them out on patrol and because of my meta abilities they couldn’t catch me. So Bat was like “fuck it, another child soldier” and BAM 2 Robins!!

Also about my meta abilities, they manifested due to the trauma from the attack I was involved in. And they’re bat-based! They were pretty subtle at first, so no one realized I had them until I started training.

Things are great, Damian joins the fam early after Talia decides to ditch her dad, Dick moves out, I break my leg, Jason joins the fam! Happy family, everything’s great, we’re thriving.

Then… BAM tragedy strikes. You really expected me to have a happy, un-traumatizing backstory? No way!

Jay and I get our shit rocked by the Joker. Thankfully, we live haha. I was able to keep us from getting crushed by the warehouse debris due to my enhanced strength. And B got there in time and called in Superman to pull us out of the wreckage.

Anyway, this event FREAKS ME TF OUT. Obviously both of us have to retire from being Robins, and I refuse to have anything to do with vigilantism or Batman. I even refused to speak to Bruce for a while.

I got some pretty nasty, very visible scars from this event. I was really ashamed of them, so I wouldn’t leave the manor or let the media see me. The public/media was told we were kidnapped by random thugs, but it was a conspiracy theory I actually died which is why I hadn’t been seen since it happened (obviously not lmao)

Few years later, Barbara convinces me to become the next batgirl after she had to retire. Night of my first patrol, literally about to leave the cave, bat signal lights. Joker escaped Arkham. Are you kidding me??? I completely flipped my shit. I refused to go out, and refused to ever be a vigilante again.

This didn’t last though, Steph and Cass joined the family and really brought me out of my shell. I helped train stephanie, which really brought back my love of fighting.

So I decided to train again, and just recently became Batgirl!

This DR has by far my angst-iest backstory, I promise I’m not always this dramatic. Onto more fun things!

Jason and I had lowkey beef with Tim at first because, cmon, we almost die and now some other kid is Robin? But don’t worry, we all get along now!

I have a scar on my forehead from where I tripped and fell face-first into the batmobile T-T

I also have a scar on my ankle from falling off a roof (this was not fully my fault, Dick was also involved LMAO)

People outside of Gotham know that Batman exists, but the rest of us? Full on cryptid energy. Best evidence is some blurry photographs, the occasional video of one of us being dumb, or anecdotes from fast food workers. There’s a whole buzzfeed unsolved episode about it.

I only recently started making public appearances again, which is fun

The majority of the family are fire signs (including myself) so that’s going to be… a fun experience hahah

I normally work at night, but occasionally I patrol with Duke during the day!

Concert thoughts

Seeing Gorillaz live in 2022 (Merriweather Post Pavilion)

Okay, to preface, no matter what I say in this reflection, I had a great time. I love live music, and Gorillaz has been a part of my life for a significant amount of time. Even if I’m not as obsessed as I was in 2017, I’ll always enjoy going to the shows. But that being said, there were definitely some I noticed, that I now know other people noticed, too, and I want to talk about that.

But let’s start with the positives:

Neither of them use Tumblr much, but I’m really happy that I got to catch up with a few friends I’ve gotten to know over the years. You know who you are lmao. If you don’t see this, we’ll probably talk about this more in the future anyways. This was really fun for me!

The setlist! I liked this setlist a lot more than the one they used in 2017. It was very Demon Days and Self-titled heavy, which, as many of you know, contain more of my favorite Gorillaz songs. I was worried they might take one of my personal favorites, “New Genius,” off the list before they got MD, but thankfully, that didn’t happen! Woohoo! I love the new arrangement for “O Green World,” too. The only song missing was EPWRID, but I wasn’t expecting it. Still, it’s another favorite of mine, and I hope I get to hear it live sometime in the future.

I enjoyed the new music. I haven’t listened to the newer Cracker Island songs in depth, but the three they played - “Cracker Island,” “New Gold,” and “Skinny Ape” are all bops...at least when they’re live. We’ll see how “Skinny Ape” translates to recording...next year lmao.

The guests brought great energy! The shift that would occur when they started performing was palpable.

The neutral:

I started feeling a little...idk how to describe it without sounding cliché, and it may be that it simply is cliché. Oh well. You know when Stevie Nicks went, “But time makes you bolder, even children get older, and I'm getting older too”? That’s how I started feeling about midway through that concert, watching the people in the pit reaching up at Damon in awe and excitement. It made think of myself in 2017, how thrilled I was to be there, to see Murdoc on the big screen, surrounded by people who also loved Gorillaz. I’ve grown and changed a lot since then, both in my perspective of the band, and my focus in life in general. There’s more distance between us. However, I’m not sad about where I am now, I’d say I’m pretty happy. But idk, the feeling that I was watching the beginning of someone else’s Gorillaz journey, at the same (or similar) point I was in in 2017, made me a teeny tiny bit emotional. We grow up, but other people come in to continue carrying the mantle.

The negative-ish:

So, like I said, I had a lot of fun! But I also definitely felt like this show had a different atmosphere than the show I went to in 2017. Initially, I figured this was just me. After all, I’m not as obsessed with the band and characters as I used to be. I was in a seat rather than the pit this time (I actually didn’t mind this, ngl djsaldf). Obviously, I was projecting my own personal headspace onto the concert! But was I??

Out of curiosity, I skimmed through the reddit thread on this concert. There, I noticed a few other people pointing out that same thing. “The vibes were off,” “The crowd was dead,” “The cartoons were hardly there.” So it wasn’t just me?

To be fair, I haven’t watched any of the other tour videos this time around, so I can’t speak for those shows. I can’t even speak for other sections, though I’d agree that from where I was, the energy seemed more subdued/detached. I have a few theories as to why this could be. For one, Damon seemed to have a different energy this show versus the one I saw in 2017. For reference, here’s the opening in 2017 vs the opening in 2022. Even if he didn’t move around the stage as much, he still seemed more...present for the song in 2017 than 2022. In general, he interacted with the crowd a lot less this time (he jumped into the pit for “Dare” in 2017, talked to us a little bit about DC/Trump vs 2022 where he mostly just went from song to song). I remember joking in my head that he was speed-running through the set so they could end in time for the venue’s 11pm curfew. He did run around the pit and up the steps a few times...he didn’t make it very far because he reached the end of his mic cable RIP. Or maybe the live band is tired/on edge overall (he made a point to mention how many shows they’ve played, which made me think he’s aware that they’re working very hard with very little breaks). People have speculated other things as well, but I’ll hold off on doing that here for now.

It was also cold! And a little squished in the seats. The person to my left kept moving into my space unintentionally, so even if I wanted to jump and dance, I’d be banging into everyone lmao. I’m not much of a dancer/jumper in general though. I prefer to listen closely to shows, and absorb the whole experience.

Usually, other people can pick up my “slack” (I don’t consider it slack, personally, but I know a lot of complaints I’ve seen call out the lack of people jumping and raving etc.), but oddly enough, people of all ages around me were kinda just chilling too. I assume part of it’s because Gorillaz is in a fan transition phase. You have older fans who have likely seen them before, and therefore less hype. You have new fans who mostly know Cracker Island singles, but maybe aren’t familiar with Self-titled just yet. It didn’t seem like people knew the songs that well is what I’m getting at. This goes for me, too! At one point, they tried to get us to sing along to “New Gold,” and I realized that...I didn’t know the words to “New Gold.” 😯

Distance from the characters. Like, I feel like I barely saw Murdoc anywhere - not even in the visuals. This might sound dumb, but it’s how I felt! I missed him! This one might just be me though.

Overall, it was still a memorable time! I’m not mad about the “negatives,” but I thought I’d still reflect and share because they’re what’s given me the most thoughts post show.

Does the war ever end? (Part 3)

New York 2012 -

One week after Loki’s attack

Tony Stark sat at his work bench, the rest of tower was in the midst of repair and thankfully his workshop had been for the most part untouched. He was focused on trying to understand something he couldn’t explain.

For the past week he’d sat at his bench replaying every angle of footage from the attack on New York, specifically when Loki occupied his foyer.

Even then, that’s not what he was interested in.

When he realised his daughter was in the tower he felt like he was going to fall out of the sky. He couldn’t bare his daughter being in danger - he believed fiercely that if anything ever happened to her his heart would stop.

Even now reviewing footage of her scrambling down hallways and when Loki grabbed her the blistering hatred he felt made him wish, for only a moment, Loki hadn’t walked home at all.

But putting all that aside he focuses on what puzzled him most.

He replayed the video in question.

Daisy’s feet barely scraped the ground, bashing wildly at the gods arm that held hers in a vice like grip.

He zoomed in on the burst of energy that formed between them just before it forced them apart.

Her small fist connecting with his. That was what looked to be the catalyst for the eruption and the cause of his confusion. Even with the most sophisticated technology in the world the cameras couldn’t really focus on the energy. Even cross referencing the structural magnetic fields of the tower left him without an idea of what it was.

The video played through over and over again but he still came to the same conclusion. Daisy had somehow caused it.

He supposed there was only one way to find out.

“Hey Daisy!” He called

“Yeah dad?”

“I need you to come down here a minute”

“Okay!”

Footsteps could be heard from the hallway as they approached, you’d think that a fortress of solitude for Tony Stark would be soundproof but in actuality he’d wrote it into JARVIS’s code that Daisy Stark would always be contactable wherever she was.

A modification he’d installed six days ago.

Daisy ran into the room, her giddy self had almost entirely returned post battle but there were still moments, wether it be someone dropping something on the floor or a bird flying too close to the window.

She ran up to him smiling, sitting in his stool he smiled at her and pulled her into a hug, depositing her on his lap as he swivelled back to the work table.

“You remember what happened last week, in the foyer?”

Her smile receded and she nodded tentatively.

“Well, there’s something that happened and… I’m not sure what it was, is it okay if I show to you and you can tell me what you might have seen?”

She looked at him for a moment, her lip quivered and she nodded softly again. He turned her towards the monitor in front of him and played the footage keeping an eye on her at every moment.

He zoomed in on the segment in question again.

Holding her tight he asked her “so here, before he lets you go there’s this” he points at the moment where the green energy forms “this is what looks to seperate you two, do you know what it is”

Daisy shook her head and spoke meekly, eyes never leaving the screen as her words came out broken

“No…I was scared…I wanted him to get away”

He nodded then turned her towards him.

“I think you did that”

She started breathing a bit heavily and shaking her head.

“I just wanted him to stop. Am I in trouble?”

“No. No,” he replied instantly “You did good Daisy-chain, I just want to make sure you’re okay”

She calmed slightly and focused on her breathing before looking at him.

“Maybe we should look more into it, yeah?”

“Am I weird?”

“I mean you live with me, I don’t think normal was ever in the cards kid”

Daisy giggled

“You know we don’t know where you came from, and we saw a few gods and big green guy last week, maybe your special too? Do you want to help test this theory?”

“Ok dad”she smiled smally at him then perked up to her bubbly self again saying something that only Tony Starks daughter would think of.

“But for the record, I would like to maintain that my diagnosis will only be referred to as weird” she spoke in her cute, definite voice.

A good chuckle burst out at her words and the duo began talking about Daisys weird occcurance and how they could test it.

Who knew that such a small moment would be what defined a universe. Or two.

INTERVIEW REVIEW/ RANT!

(My thoughts and feelings over the interview! There are a lot of mixed opinions but these are my thoughts and just babbles haha . I will admit I’m pretty let down and disappointed. Thankfully I have lots of people lifting my spirits thought <3 )

1. I’m still very confused why this was SJM’s first like interview out of silence. I’m not sure wether it was to drum up more sales, maybe calm mixed reviews of acosf or just overall just cash grab … but it still seems random. She could’ve done a CC2 interview and got more people excited for CC3 possibly coming out in a few months or something like that. And actually gave us hints and new stuff, not just repeating what we already know. Also when are the paperbacks of CC2 coming out? Because at least to my knowledge she can’t even release CC3 without them

2. My main issue with this and some people have different opinions. Why put questions you can’t answer? Especially only five in total and then say “why are you asking me these questions.” Like excuse me fans have questions, why did your team put them in the live! Half of me is like well at least she addressed Elriel/ next book, light singer/Gw*n, more theories on CC. But the other half is like well no she didn’t. Now It’s only going to cause more arguments because there’s so much room for interpretations. They could’ve picked really great acosf questions but they picked the ones that would spark the most controversy and then didn’t answer them.

3. Sarah Maclean did great! Honestly thought she was a really good interviewer, I enjoyed watching her a lot. I also did see how she kinda of pushed SJM on some certain questions which I did appreciate a lot. I hope she does stay the main interviewer for SJM. I’ve made it clear I dont really like Steph and after this especially I really hope it’s Sarah M from now on.

4. Was this worth 15$? I’m leaning more towards no. I did like the first half a lot, talking about Nesta’s journey and everything! I really want to re-read acosf now. But honestly this could’ve been a insta live and it’s clear the only reason it wasn’t was because they wanted money. Also I feel like a lot of people were excited because she asked fans to send in videos which I’m not sure if she’s done in the past or not. But then only playing five and giving vague to none answers doesnt sit well with me. On top of that her answers contradict is her words in the past, so now I feel she lied sorta. She seemed very caught off guard with these questions, I’m not exactly sure who picked them but they literally picked the worst ones and I’m not saying that because I dont like the questions themselves, I honestly thought they were great. But they picked the ones SJM clearly couldn’t answer.

Overall I’d rank it 5.5/10. I loved the first half, it was fun and exciting to hear from SJM again and to hear about Nesta and everything, but the second half let me down a lot. First, I’m not sure exactly how to describe it but putting the Elain/ Azriel question in the interview and then just not answering it like? Sorta seems like a slap in the face, I know I got super excited when it started playing and then she just spouted off random things. Same with the light singerquestion. Second, lots of things she said tonight seem to contradict things she said in the past and to me at least it seemed obvious she had to be careful with her words even when Sarah M tried to lean into them more. Because of that I just don’t think this should’ve been an interview at all, if you can’t answer questions about the future of this series then don’t make people pay thinking they’ll get some new information. And especially dont put them in the video and get fans excited. Third it seems VERY obvious they know about the shipwar. Having back to back Elriel/ Gwynriel questions. Like are you kidding me. And then again SJM not answering them. It just seems like she wasn’t prepared at all for this.

Again these are just my rants and babbles. I just needed to get it out and I’m still deciding my future in the fandom ! I absolutely love it here even with the antis but as for me and many others the silence is just not fun. Not having any like light at the end of the tunnel or anything it’s just ugh and I’ve only been here since April! I applaud everyone who has been doing it longer than me, you all are warriors.

WWE Summerslam 2022 - Quickfire Thoughts and Reaction

A new era has begun in WWE, Triple H is back in the creative chair and has promised some shakeups

While Raw and Smackdowns have taken place since, this is the first true event where the McMahon-Helmsley era of WWE ownership begins. Let's see how it goes

Spoilers for the PPV

Kickoff

I'll be honest, I didn't watch the Kickoff, I scrubbed through the video and since there were 0 matches again, I didn't bother.

Main Card

Ah they're still calling it a 'premium live event'?

Those sound like peppered boos from Becky and is that an Alundra Blayze-themed attire?

Commentary noting that Becky went through a full on losing streak only to win 2 matches and get a title shot does expose the poor booking choice though

Bianca doing a blue chaps attire for hometown Nashville

No quickfire squash for this one, thankfully

I also want to take this moment to say Fuck Kevin Dunn for attempting to derail Becky and others from getting tv time and pushes simply because he didn't get a hard on for them. This is meant to be a wrestling show, and Becky is beautiful anyway

Becky whipping out Diamond Dust now? Love seeing wrestlers whip out a new move

That Manhandle Slam sell was great too, completely folded

Super Spanish Fly and KOD wins it for Bianca. It was a good match, strong opener, not better than their Mania show stealer but that is a high bar

And a handshake hints at a face turn maybe? Would be overdue because the crowd reaction has always been strong for Becky even as a heel

But now Bayley is back! And she brought Io and Kota!!!

Trips making a statement; 3 big Black and Gold NXT names back (long overdue callups too because 2.0 was not working for them), women's opener and the hometown girl wins.

I will have to wonder though, because all 3 women deserve to be world champion and there's only 2 main roster titles, unless Trips intend to bring back Black and Gold. I guess they could reignite the women's tag titles but I feel like Trips would want Sasha and Naomi back as a priority

Ha, Logan Paul didn't get cheered even against Miz XD Didn't even get new attire

Camera is getting over the top again

Is, Paul selling the Figure Four he has locked in? He kept shooting back like he had been poked in the eye

Ciampa is about to get ejected (effectively by being caught on the apron) but refuses so AJ's music plays to blindside him

Paul wins via Skull Crushing Finale from dodging being hit by a...polaroid? It was, fine, kinda by the numbers aside from two moonsaults, I don't care for it really

Briefcase attack pre-match for heat and to imply doubt

Match was pretty short really, Lashley missed the spear, so Theory tried to do a rolling Cutter but got Gorilla Pressed into the Hurt Lock. Didn't need to be there, but I guess tapping quickly is Theory's plan for staying fresh for the main event

Hmmm, more 2 day Manias, who was the one who didn't want it again?

I don't agree with Road Dogg on a lot of things, but I do agree that WWE book Rey as a terrible babyface; he never wins the feud even when it's personal, most of his wins involve interference or cheating and he approves matches like this knowing Rhea will get involved

Also McDonalds colours is not it guys

It's No DQ why are there still legal tags?

Rhea please you're too beautiful to make me pay attention to the match

Rey is 47 remember, he's still this good and deserves more. I hope before he retires (a sad day that'll be) he has a Liger-esque tour of dream matches across all promotions

Edgy Edge comes back mid-match, spearing the JDs to set up a 619 after Rhea thwarted it

Surprised but not mad that the Mysterios won, but it did feel like they were just props for Edge's return, the No DQ format was barely even used too

Owens will for sure benefit from Trips' booking

So now I ask again, what do we do with the tag division? There's not a Babyface team out there that's able to beat the Usos now, Mysterios are feuding with JD with Edge and New Day are feuding with the Viking Raiders

And we're bringing Charlotte back with a package reminding how much WWE has overpushed her

That is 1000000 times less Kid Rock than I ever needed to see...

Riddle's here too calling out Seth despite not being cleared

Seth comes out, brawls and stomps Riddle before leaving, asking the question why?

Ronda's mascara job is another miss

Liv getting the bigger pop than Ronda still

What. Was That? Let's not ignore the fact that bell to bell that was 4 and a half minutes long, but this was basically Liv being squashed and having a dusty win by the fact that she tapped out (before 3 as well) while pinning Ronda who had her in an armbar just to spare Rousey's blushes

Was this really to turn Ronda heel? Attacking Liv and the Ref, because we made Liv look so damn weak for no reason but to keep Rousey looking strong. It's always the same kind of defeat with her too

Ugh, Mayor of Knox County

Really stretching their 'first time evers' by saying it's the first Last Man Standing Match of Summerslam

Start the main event with a promo, okay

Lesnar here with a tractor that apparently Roman never saw when coming down the ramp

Judy Bagwell thanking her lucky stars she isn't on that thing, but it reminds me of Lesnar vs Big Show's stretcher match, right down to diving off the vehicle

This was just a squash trade to start, Brock beat down Roman using the steps and barricade, then Roman beat down Brock with table bumps, then Brock beats down Roman with steps and the table fragments

After dropping him out of a tractor, Brock beat him down some more, Reigns got the Guillotine but then Brock got the Kimura, since Reigns got up he upends the entire ring with the tractor

Usos finally get involved, Heyman takes a table bump and Brock gets speared

And out comes Theory...he hits Roman with the briefcase but then gets F-5'd

Brock survives a double superkick and gets speared again, survives that so Roman beats him with the briefcase, survives some more, belt shot, survives again...this isn't dramatic

Hey now you can't start a count while the guy is still being attacked, that's a rule of the match, another belt shot and the bloodline bury Brock under furniture to 'win'

Chaotic? Yes, Good? Not sure about it, don't think I was captivated by it, just felt like they were doing big spots for the sake of it

Theory's still MITB holder too don't forget about that

Conclusion

So, Summerslam. Triple H's new vision looks to have some foundation, but it needs work still.

The opener was great, we've set up a new faction full of incredibly talented women, one I hope will be a cross-brand faction so all three can have their touch of gold (admittedly I would've brought Bayley to confront Liv rather than Bianca because SD's women's division is the one lacking depth). We also have Becky turning face which is overdue.

Despite this though, the rest of the show was fine to baffling. Don't care for Paul so the match weren't for me, Lashley match didn't need to be there either, the Mysterios got a surprise win because Edge came back (I guess Rhea vs Bianca will have to wait) which is kinda nice but also, Rey's first main card PPV win since May 2021 (if you include kickoff show then it's first since February) is due to interference, we celebrated 20 years since his debut this week. I guess Pat winning was fine too.

But the rest of the card is just muddled; Tag division is a mess, we shorthanded the SD Women's championship match to 4 and a half minutes (reminder that AEW's women's division got flack for having a 10 minute women's title match with a challenger who had beaten the champion earlier) and our finale was a mess.

Overall, good start but shoddy booking petered the show out, there's some positives to take but a lot of negatives still present from the old era. Rome, however, was not built in a day.

Starting in the early 1980’s the Satanic Panic ignited in the United States before spreading through the world. Another unfortunately excellent video from Justin Sledge, which carries just about all the content warnings you might expect in this context. From medieval antisemitic violence, up through the 1980s ritual abuse craze--and, as he discusses some, more recently getting resurrected to some extent through the QAnon garbage. It's ugly history all the way down, y'all, though he treats it with the usual sensitivity here. (And more soberly than usual, with the multiple levels of obviously still uncomfortable personal relevance there.)

I was 12 when Geraldo Rivera's first mega-trainwreck special peddling this bullshit aired. So yeah, I remember this period a little too well--if thankfully more in the background, growing up in a non-religious family outside the Bible Belt. The White Evangelical Right hadn't made many inroads in our area (yet). I did know some other kids who ran into more trouble at home, with parents who were keeping an eye out for various supposed Satanic Influences. I did also hang out around some of the local Redneck Stoner Metalheads, so yeah. I'm still pretty cool with most of that crowd back home, and have no reason to think it's not mutual.

And I did run into some bullying with that shit used as an excuse--but surprisingly little in retrospect, as a neurodivergent weirdo with an interest in the occult myself, who was getting bullied within millimeters of my life already. Which whole experience honestly helped steer me harder into that punkmetalgoth freak glory, btw. Along with a lot of kids pushed well over onto the margins in those days.

(I also got much less directly caught up on the edges, through what was thankfully a much more straightforwardly secular version of the whole deeply pernicious "repressed memories of nonexistent abuse" fad. As I have talked about some before. Basically because I was obviously ND as hell, no doubt sending off some serious queer vibes, and dealing with plenty of then-ongoing trauma to boot. That whole mess was frankly traumatizing as fuck, but I feel like it at least didn't screw with my head in as bad a ways as, say, actually becoming convinced that you were indeed sadistically abused in Satanic rituals. They also never pulled out hypnosis on me, but stuck to insistent leading questions based on horrible assumptions in the face of my persistent "poor insight" and total lack of recall of any earlier childhood abuse of the sort ever happening. Don't know how well hypnosis would have worked either, tbh, but there was more than enough badness there even without finding out. And without the explicitly "Satanic" elements.)

It is difficult to stress hard enough just how many people did get harmed in some way by this particular load of conspiracy theory horseshit. And in some ways that were still echoing down, even before the QAnon revival. As he goes into some here.

Dr. Sledge, OTOH, is just enough younger that I wouldn't have thought he'd have been at as much risk. But yeah, he was also a similarly geeky weirdo growing up in Mississippi and getting involved in Judaism at the time--who was actually into D&D, some occult special interests, and at least now black metal. (Hard to tell which way any connection there might have run, of course, considering he doesn't mention the metal back when this shit was actively playing out.) And, of course, he ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

At any rate, this video is indeed a pretty long deep dive, but I would really suggest checking it out.

-What are you passionate about?

I’m quite passionate about illustration, photography, design (obviously), playing video games (specifically the Sims 3), listening to good music, eating good food, and learning stupid things from the internet. All these interests mostly stem from just learning about things I like. Once I’m invested in something I have to know everything about it.

-What culture/geography/region/country do you identify with?

Canada, not really, but I’ve lived here my whole life. I’ve actually never been anywhere outside of Ontario and Quebec. I’d love to travel around but I’m not rich :*). I’m also Portuguese, but I've unfortunately never been to Portugal. I’d love to go but I don’t know any of my family over there and they probably don’t know of my existence. However, my boyfriend and I would really like to go to Japan! I don’t personally connect with it, but we made plans to go eventually, sometime after graduation and I’m set on making the trip happen.

-Is there a design, object or product that you love or hate and why?

D2L/Brightspace!!! I hate it (lmao). It’s not awful but there are way too many ways to do the same thing, which makes everyone so confused. Blackboard was surprisingly much easier, and I kind of miss it (like Stockholm syndrome). I just wish I could see my grades properly in 2DL, blackboard had a nice grades panel and you could compare your grades with your classmates anonymously.

-Are there any recent events/news, Canadian or otherwise, that you FEEL for?

Yesterday (Sept. 26th) there was a guy swinging an axe outside of TMU (toronto metropolitan university). My sister goes there, so it was kinda scary. She thankfully is taking a course that operates outside of the campus grounds, but it’s so wild that people would go to a college campus and swing axes.

-Is there an experience that impresses you while travelling [people, place, service]?

I rarely travel, but I went to Italy once in 2021! The people were nice-ish even though I didn’t speak Italian, and the food was quite good. I was shocked however, that they rarely serve vegetables (I was dying for cucumbers or broccoli after the trip). The trains were also quite fast, but it was still a long trip when taking them. My family and I went from the top of Italy (Del Garda) all the way to Rome in one day. We actually went twice, but it was exhausting.

-Do you consider yourself a T-shaped individual? If so, what area/discipline do you know well? What other areas/disciplines do you know to some extent?

I would consider myself a jack of all trades when it comes to art (aside from sculpture, I suck at that). I’m quite good at photography, design, illustration, and pretty much use any kind of physical medium (oil, acrylic, pastel, water colour, ink, pencil crayon…) due to the years I spent doing art over having life experiences (T-T). I would say I have a deeper knowledge in design, as that's what i’m studying, and I like learning more about it to hopefully aid me in future job prospects. However, in terms of weird knowledge (my favourite kind), I know a lot about video games, but with specific video games, I know A LOT about them. More specifically, Undertale…I KNOW cringe. What am I 13? I got invested in the game when it came out and I still get really invested in topics I like. I will go out of my way to learn everything I can about them, almost to the point where I learn things that aren’t even true, just theories (a game theory :0 -matt patt).

Essay #1: Useless Fun Facts

One can grab a book on quantum physics and read said book to a chimpanzee, now, does the chimp understand anything you said?

Fuck No. (#1)

You could theoretically train the hypothetical chimp to memorize the combination of symbols that represent the contents of the quantum physics book, and be able to type a copy of the contents of the book on a typewriter, but he will still not understand any of the gibberish that it was forced to memorize. Aside from irreparably abusing the animal to the point of psychosis, the knowledge that it gained was completely useless to poor little bobo. Quantum physics, sadly, does not make a chimp more capable of finding the best fruit in the jungle.

I have watched multiple videos on the topic of quantum computing, thanks to YouTube knowing that I like to stroke my ego by learning about scientific stuff that is beyond my comprehension, thus recommending me videos about it.

I know that a “qubit” is this thing that is always spinning, being in a state of one and zero(not sure what it means!) at the same time, and that’s good thing. If you “entangle” multiple qubits together and somehow are able to dominate the black magic that is the science behind it, you can create a computer that is capable of running modded Minecraft at a consistent 60 FPS, making it far superior to any super computer made by humans. Jokes aside, while the technology is very interesting, I cannot comprehend any real details behind its inner workings.

Is the knowledge of these facts useful to me?

I could spend all of my free time watching “fun facts” videos on YouTube about highly advance scientific topics, in which the host is a human whose intelligence and wisdom far surpasses mine in all measurements, and yet, 1 out every 100 pieces of knowledge I learn will be of practical use (the “1” being that one video were I learned that if you spin a shaken can of coke, it won’t burst and make a mess, like it would normally do). Maybe there is a far more important meaning to this seek of knowledge with no direct application to our daily lives, something less obvious that our brain instinctively knows.

My theory is that “Fun facts” or just general knowledge of scientific principles, history, etc, even if sometimes beyond our comprehension, expand our perspective on things, or so I believe, in the sense that trains our common sense to be able to recognize bullshit when we see it.

We all have a bullshit detector pre-installed in our brains, but it needs to be trained and fed information for it to work properly. I know that the earth is round, I know that is round because it spins, I know that it spins because of the gravitational forces acting upon it, so when some internet crackhead comes to me and tries to indoctrinate me into the cult of flat-earth, I can say “fuck no (#4)”. It might not be about the direct application of knowledge the reason as to why learning these bits of wisdom is important, but about building our bullshit sensor and avoiding idiotic decisions.

I might not know the exact specifics of how memory RAM works, but I do know that RAM comes on a physical piece of hardware, and that the nice Indian man offering me to download more of it from his website, is probably wrong about his perception of how it works (sorry nice gentleman, but RAM doesn’t work like that, you silly boy!).

Knowledge, while not obvious on it’s usefulness, it’s the closest thing we have to a cure to stupidity, so be a nice homosapiens and remember to take your medicine. Even the most intelligent humans out there are sometimes victims to their own ignorance. If you ever feel like you don’t need to learn more, remember that doctors use to think smoking was good for your health (but thankfully, they learned something new after a few dozen cases of lung cancer).

A fun fact a day, keeps the nice Indian man away.
