both ad lib lovers and the summer hikaru died to something really interesting wherein they take typical genre conventions and set-ups of BL and place them into a genre other than romance, while still portraying the romantic undertones. where the summer hikaru died does this with horror, ad lib lovers does this with comedy.

as opposed to hikaru's focus on horror, in ad lib lovers, jealousy, desire, and a fear of inadequacy and loving someone more than they love you is portrayed through the lens of improv. this accurately depicts that having a crush on someone as an adult is humiliating.

I get that everyone thinks Shorther is older than Ash since he's always been so much taller than Ash, even in Angel Eyes, but we never see Ash teasing him for his age, even if it's maybe like 1 or 2 years. I think they're same age, which means Shorter would've been born in the year of 2000 too. He could be younger even, but we never see Ash calling him a kid either. We see Ash teasing Eiji for his age all the time even tho it's just 2 years apart, but never them.

All I'm saying is that Shorter and Ash knew each other for a couple of years and never teased each other for their age, while Ash literally made fun of Eiji when they just met lol.

I don't like posting negative opinions about the kdrama here because honestly this version gets way too much hate out there and I really like it.

But if were to make one complaint about it is that the main couple needed more screentime (and jihoo needed less, or at least less with jandi).

Yeah it was 2009 and love triangles were all the rage + jihoo's actor was more popular but it was like they couldn't write one scene of the main couple without jihoo jumping in or getting mentioned somehow. Especially in the second half of the drama.

And don't get me wrong, I love jihoo, but sometimes this makes him look like an obsessed asshole, which I don't think was the goal of the writers. Like when Jandi or Junpyo are in danger or clearly having a moment and Jihoo decides this is the ideal time to pine over her or try to win her over, like, Sir, this is a Wendy's.

And sometimes it ends up eating the other characters' screentimes too. I just rewatched ep 22 and Woobin gets a scene for himself after God knows how long and im happy bc he got lines and then HE STARTS TALKING ABOUT JIHOO like I didn't just have to sit through five minutes of a Jihoo and Jandi scene. At a certain point it feels like the only non Jihoo related plotline is Yijung's (is this why some people like yijung and gaeul more?). And Jihoo isn't even the main character 😭

Meanwhile I'm just like... Can I please get a scene of Junpyo and Jandi? Can I please get a scene of Jandi, the main character, without him? Can I see more of the actual male lead? Can I see more than 3 minutes of Yijung at a time? Can I please see any other character get mentioned?

This panel is so meaningful in Twilight coming to terms with his own childhood trauma. It’s clear throughout the series that he distances himself from Anya “for the sake of the mission”, but in reality he can’t admit to the pain he faced as a child.

Anya chose a skeleton as her treat. It is a “morbid spectacle”, and one that mirrors his own decision to join the army as soon as possible. He tampered down his own stress by inflicting the pain he felt on the “enemy”, and Anya being drawn to that specific keychain suggests her flippancy for violence.

The line “Did I not see it, or did I not want to see it?” shows his reluctance to acknowledge the similarities between their lives. Had Twilight admitted earlier that Anya’s time alone was so detrimental to her emotions he would need to address the deep seated trauma that the loss of his family caused him.

He’s finally forced to confront a surrogate of his own experience and struggles to give her the affection she needs to be a happy and healthy kid, because that would be an admission of the impact his childhood had on him throughout his adolescence and into adulthood.

having witnessed both the tokyo ghoul and attack on titan fandom discourse, I can tell you right now that this jjk chapter is going to be praised like it's the best chapter ever written in like 2-3 years (once the fandom hype dies down).

I think a problem like this arises because of two things:

1) personal perception of people's favorite character turns out to be factually wrong and now they have to call the author a "fraud" and say that they retconed them instead of admitting that they themselves missed the point

2) following an ongoing manga, without going back to read its entirety or certain chapters, makes people forget a lot of things about the world itself and the characters which ties back into point 1)
