Not to be aggro on main, but X-fandom’s pissing me off today, so here, have a stan post for Vita Ayala’s work on the X-books.
I think a lot about the fact that the second Vita Ayala got their hands on an X-book, they took the maxim ‘if you want representation, make it yourself’ to heart and added like, a full fucking DOZEN new LGBTQ+ characters of color to the X-books. And how they’ve made a point to keep bringing these characters into background scenes as often as possible, even when writing books revolving around more popular mutants, to try and cement the existence of this broader community of LGBTQ+ mutants of color just out there living their lives on Krakoa.
And I think a lot about the way so many fans - particularly ones who go gaga for even the slightest subtextual tease that relatively obscure white mutants might be LGBTQ+.......were outright DISMISSIVE of Ayala’s efforts here.
There were posts and forum pages and tweets and reddit threads about what a waste of page time all these OCs were (when Ayala deliberately threaded their invention and introduction throughout stories about more popular characters in such a way that these minor characters NEVER actually derailed the main story they were telling).
And there were fans who were like ‘they should have just saved it for creator owned stuff’ as though fandom wouldn’t be drooling over the introduction of new obscure white LGBTQ+ characters in high profile X-books.
Because that was the main difference here, make no mistake.
Ayala created and introduced an entire swath of new LGBTQ+ mutant characters in just a handful of their very first Marvel issues, and has kept pushing them their entire several years of writing for Marvel. And some of those characters like Brutha Nature and Joshua Engelhard have been pushed and promoed by other writers in turn, like Orlando in the new X-Men Unlimited issue, or Howard in Knights of X.....but fandom at large is still like yawn, wake me when I should care.
And the thing is, I’ve been in X-fandom for like twenty-five fucking years. I’ve watched generations of fans latch onto the most minor two-appearance-only characters based on just one or two possibly subtextual exchanges or implications here and there.
The absolute ONLY difference between that phenomenon, and the complete apathy - and even outright antagonism - a lot of fans, including white LGBTQ+ ones - have displayed towards Ayala’s continued efforts to create and boost the visibility of more LGBTQ+ characters of color....
Is that none of Ayala’s creations were white LGBTQ+ characters specifically.
And the difference that created in how fandom received these new characters or reacted even just to Ayala’s desire to create them and platform them in X-books, like....isn’t remotely subtle.
Not to mention the willful obliviousness of people arguing that if Ayala wanted to promote more LGBTQ+ representation among mutants, they should have developed already-existing LGBTQ+ mutants....
While just so happening to gloss over the fact that with the exception of the higher profile LBGTQ+ mutants of color who already get focused on - like Julio Rictor and Karma....there weren’t any under-utilized LGBTQ+ mutants of color TO further develop.
People really think they’re slick when they say ‘oh I don’t mind Ayala wanting to push more representation, I just think they should have focused more on existing mutants instead of creating a whole bunch of OCs who will be forgotten about and never used by anyone else’ -
When the reality is....without Ayala’s creations, this just ‘happens’ to mean Ayala would have no other options TO focus on, aside from.....minor white LGBTQ+ characters.
The fact was Ayala didn’t just want to push LGBTQ+ representation, they wanted to push representation for LGBTQ+ mutants OF COLOR, specifically, and first they had to CREATE those mutants.
And fandom’s been out here giving them shit for it for years now, all while claiming to still want diversity at the exact same time. Just....not Ayala’s brand of diversity.
Fuck those fans.
Anyway, other X-fans can miss me with their blatant fucking hypocrisy, I’ll stay stanning Ayala and every single one of their new CANON mutant characters. Other fans can go around patting their fave white cishet creators on the back for dropping CRUMBS, I’d rather save my accolades for someone who hasn’t wasted a single second of their time on high profile X-books and is using every page they can to introduce and push more mutants of color, LGBTQ+ mutants, and mutants whose identities fall under both these umbrellas.
Like Jamie Rogers (ace), Rosie Rodriguez, Cam Long (non-binary, identifies as queer), Hector Pullman (gay, autistic)
Tumblr media
and Gabrielle Diwa aka Galura (lesbian and Karma’s canon girlfriend), Michael Diwa (bisexual), Markos Argyros, Jason Jackson, Aura Charles (identifies as queer)
Tumblr media
and Joshua Engelhard, Monica (non-binary), Jacob Williams aka Brutha Nature (trans boy), Christopher O’Leary, Megan Ogawa aka Kappa (bisexual)
Tumblr media
and Alec Walsh, Leonara Eng (trans woman), Liana, Julia, and Alice Campbell (non-binary).
Tumblr media
And yes, again - every single one of these characters is canon.

rambly thoughts ahead but i dont think its the best etiquette to describe a person as white or black in image descriptions unless you are certain of their race & how the yidentify. i only mention those 2 bc thats what i see the most when i cant see the persons face/guess race on my own. if you need to descibe the person you could just say what their skin tone is (pale, light brown, dark brown, very dark) & if you want to go the extra mile you could look up what the creator says

Afro-Latine Jewish woman maintaining cultural connection in an isekai comic
Anonymous asked:
Hello! Mixed Latin American nonbinary Jew here. I'm working on a, relatively light-hearted, isekai-style fantasy comic concept of an afro-latine Jewish lady who gets sent through a portal to a colorful scifi/fantasy land, inhabitated by various imaginary creatures sorta like in Alice in Wonderland. She gains magic powers and goes on adventures, working as a scientist researching the land's magical energy. (some of the local creatures she befriends are entirely original species, and some are inspired by my local folklore, but otherwise I try to avoid culturally coding the creatures since they're mostly nonhuman looking). The story isn't supposed to touch any heavy topics like antisemitism or racism, but I've read about the cultural problems in ""normie protagonist finds a new home in a funky fantasy world"" stories, f.ex. how Harry Potter's narrative basically implies that Muggleborns have to abandon their original cultures in order to successfully integrate into the very prejudiced but ""cooler"" Wizarding World. My original goal was to break the mold that escapism fantasy usually revolves around white protagonists adventuring in heavily Western-inspired fantasy worlds, and poc-coded characters are usually nonhuman creatures or racial stereotypes. However the protagonist girl in my story comes from a loving, latine-jewish human family, and while she regularly visits them on Earth instead of just staying in the fantasy land 24/7, I'm afraid that making her story be about being happy adventuring in a separate imaginary land filled with nonhuman characters might turn into an ""abandon your family and culture"" narrative. Are there any ways how I could avoid this? Maybe making the fantasy land's worldbuilding and designs more Latin American or Jewish inspired and thus resonate more with her cultural background, or making it clear that the land is not ""perfect"" and she still loves her family?
One of the first things that stands out to me is that you haven’t set her up to need to abandon her culture in order to make a life in another place. She has the ability to go home and visit her family, but I also don’t see any reason why, if she lives primarily in the fantasy land, she couldn’t be portrayed as practicing Judaism actively in her new home. It’s true that Judaism isn’t solely defined by religious/cultural practices, but it’s also true that religious/cultural practices are one of the most recognizable and most uniting elements of Jewish identity.
I think it might help in this case to think about Jewish practices in terms of communal versus personal: that is, what are practices she would need to seek out a Jewish community for, and what are practices she can do independently?
Does she control when she is able to visit her family? If so, visiting for Jewish holidays so that she can be at a family meal or holiday services seems like a way to highlight that she is just as connected to her family as someone who moved to a different city might be. If she experiences/has experienced the death of a family member or partner, going home to be with a Jewish community for shiva or to say kaddish on a yahrzeit is another touch (for readers who may be unfamiliar, Jewish mourning practices are intensely communal and are intentional about bringing the mourner into an active support system and slowly reintroducing them to the world, and as such a mourner is likely to spend this time somewhere where they can access and be supported by a Jewish community).
As far as practices she can engage with on her own in the fantasy setting, it would be nice to see her observing Shabbat, either in a traditional way by refraining from adventuring and instead engaging in hospitality and prayer between dusk Friday and sundown Saturday, or in a less-halakhic way if she comes from a Reform or comparatively-assimilated background, by marking Friday sunset with candles, blessings, and a good meal, even if she is intending to continue her research through the next day. She would hardly be the first Jewish person to live in a place without an established Jewish community, and a festive meal can be shared just as happily with non-Jewish friends if they’re griffons and fauns as if they’re Christians and Muslims.
Here’s one idea that I think would be hugely meaningful as a way of establishing both that she intends to make her home long-term in Fantasy World and that she intends to carry Jewish traditions with her into her new life: hang a mezuzah.
Think about it: a mezuzah is the visual marker of a Jewish home, as much to the resident as to a guest. When she is home from her adventures, in her garden cottage or enchanted tower or wherever she returns to between adventures to record and categorize her research, simply showing a mezuzah in the background instantly makes the point both that she is intending to stay, and that this is a Jewish space. If as time goes on she adds other Judaica items to her space, it can add to the sense that her Jewishness is present and alive in this world, simply because she is present and alive in it.
If she doesn’t have a settled space or if you’re not planning on setting any scenes there, having Jewish visual markers on and around her can help, too. For low-hanging fruit, maybe she has a silver Jewish Star or chai necklace that catches the light now and then, but since you’re going for a light, fun vibe, maybe she’s packing her adventuring supplies in a bright-blue vinyl backpack emblazoned with “Temple Shaarei Tzedek Junior Youth Retreat 1998” (am I old? I’m pretty sure there are adults reading this who were in Junior Youth groups in 2003, but I’m willing to bet retreat swag hasn’t changed that much).
I do like the idea of including Latin American and Jewish elements in the worldbuilding, especially as an intentional way to combat the cultural dominance of Western European folklore over fantasy writing, but because your character is from and has access to our world, you have the beautiful opportunity to carry real-world markers of Jewishness with her as well.
-Meir
I adore Meir’s answer, but then, I’m the kind of person to whom “enchanted tower with a mezuzah” as an aesthetic is so near and dear to my heart that I wrote a whole fantasy series about it. Couple of random suggestions: one thing I really enjoy is exposing my gentile friends to Jewish food—I love watching the absolute shock of delirium hit someone’s face the first time they taste my charoseth. Imagine this little bowl of chopped apples and walnuts, looking vaguely dirty because they’re soaked in cinnamon-infused wine, so it’s basically dingy beige slop….so that first bite of sensuous, deep sweetness is a huge surprise. Pick your favorite equivalent and imagine the first time a centaur or a winged princess or whatever other fantasy character tries it at your MC’s behest! (Feeding brisket to dragons would make a great name for…something…)
I don’t think you’re likely to do this anyway but since these are public answers: “fantasy world fun, Jewish upbringing a chore” is a narrative I would not feel at home in or care to read. But that’s a rather predictable remark from me anyway ;)
And of course I support the “the secondary fantasy world is actually Jewish” solution too, having one of my own.

Because I feel like it.
Tumblr media
Yellow sky? Bare footed characters? Mostly a mess? Over exaggerating some of the Hispanic features. I saw the first episode, and it was just poorly written in general. And what mother calls their son "cochinada." Roughly translates to dirty or trash.
What's good Latino/Hispanic representation?
Colombian 🇨🇴
Tumblr media
In the Caribbean region of Colombia, they light up candles and lanterns on December 8, before sunrise. So the candle giving them magic was a wonderful detail. Generational trauma is a thing for us Latinos, and this film handled it in a healthy and matuer manner. And I love how they didn't shy away with how Spaniards attacked and colonized latin lands.
Mexicans 🇲🇽
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, us Mexicans love death. 🤣 But hey, I was always taught to respect death, La Muerte, and our ancestors. So, it makes sense that many Mexican films talk about death. But I also like that Maya and the Three have Aztec, Mayan, and Incan mythology. Natives to Mexico.
Dominican Puerto Rican 🇩🇴🇵🇷
Tumblr media
Luz mom is Dominican, and Luz dad is Puerto Rican. I appreciate a good interracial couple and a mixed child. Luz name also translates to light, and some Latinos are known for doing witch craft. Or at least knowledgeable about witches and demons, and no, we aren't evil. We just know how to handle this stuff. Plus, the owl has many meanings in Latino culture. To some, I believe the owl is a messenger of death and is telling everyone that death/danger is near.
Afro Latino. Puerto Rican 🇵🇷
Tumblr media
I am a massive sucker for interracial couples and mixed kids because of this. I was working at a hispanic store as a cashier. This woman walks past me and starts talking to the bagger. The bagger has blond hair, blue eyes, and white skin. The bagger looks at me worried because she doesn't speak English. So brown skin, black hair, me has to tell the bagger that the lady wanted ice in Spanish. I then talked to the lady in English. Her reaction? "YOU SPEAK ENGLISH!" Same for a dark skinned man. So many people skip me and talk to him in English. He's Dominican, and he only spoke Spanish. I appreciate films that show Latinos in different skin types and features. We're not all brown. So yeah, the mass diversity in this film is just beautiful. And I love how they wrote Miles relationship with his parents. Realistic conflict and healthy communication. Not falling into toxic stereotypes.
Spainard Puss 🇪🇸 Mexican Kitty & Perrito 🇲🇽
Tumblr media
Spaniards are considered Hispanic but not Latinos like Mexicans. And again, interracial couples for the win. And I love the realism in their romance that heals through healthy therapy. Many people see Mexicans as toxic, so having Perrito as a therapist and the one helping everyone emotionally, it's nice. Not every Mexican is toxic. And I love how you can tell their Spanish and Mexican even though their animals. Puss Spanish accent, Spanish actor, him being a ginger like some Spaniards, flamingo dancing, and gazpacho. Kitty, Mexican accent, Mexican actress, black fur/hair like most Mexicans, quinceañera, and I love how they gave her a luchador mask. Something that originates from Mexico. Also, my brother and I joke how we as Mexiacns can't swim and Kitty nearky drowns in the 1st film. 🤣 Perrito, he's a chihuahua with a Mexican actor. Enough said. I also want to say death is Brazilian because of his actor.
I don't know much about Spanish culture, but someone said the wishing star has a connection to Spanish culture. Is that true? If so, COOL! Because death is connected to Mexican culture. So, Dreamworks finding a way to combine Spanish and Mexican culture in one film is 100% magical.
There are many more, like Beverly Hills Chihuahua 🇲🇽. 🤣 That film is better than Primos. Emperor's New Groove, Peru 🇵🇪, and Rio, Brazil 🇧🇷. Not Hispanic but Latino culture. But this post is getting long. Primos! A huge step down in Latino/Hispanic representation. Especially since we have so many good films and shows that have proper representation.

What's interesting about the complaints about "no POC" in anime is that the vast majority of characters are not white. They just have different colored hair and eyes for the sake of easily differentiating characters from one another. I guess what they mean is "We want more Black and (Afro-) Latine characters in anime," which is fine, but it does speak to a kind of ethnocentrism that prioritizes the USian understanding/value of race and ethnicity without considering what diversity would look like within the context of Japan. Similarly, I think of lot of people forget that animanga is aimed first and foremost at Japanese people. Foreigners typically only learn of titles because they're already successful enough in Japan to warrant translating and selling overseas. I don't see much value in Japanese creators tailoring their stories for Americans/Westerners because they already have a lot of competition in their fields with works being cancelled constantly. It's just not a good investment.
Whenever I do see diversity within animanga, it is interesting because there are usually characters who are Ainu, Ryukyuan, Portuguese, Brazilian (not necessarily Afro-Brazilians, though some are), Chinese, Korean, and other groups from East and South East Asia. Given the history of Japan, these are depictions that are interesting and answer/address some questions of the presence of these groups in Japan. I would argue that this is actual representation within the context of animanga. The Ainu (and other non-Yamato Japanese people) are oppressed in Japan. There are still Koreans (and their descendants) living in Japan from WWII who are oppressed, as well. There are close sociocultural and historical connections between Japan and Brazil and Japan and Portugal. It makes sense that diversity in Japan would look different from diversity in the US (not addressing how a lot of USian "diversity" is just telling the same White stories with ESG-insentivized checkboxes, so not true diversity at all). The landscape of animanga is just what you get when there's media coming from a country that's over 98% homogenous. I'm a Black and Hispanic animanga fan (same anon from 718760234172170240 and 719551319937007616), so I get how disappointing it feels. But just because you like something, doesn't mean it's made for you or that you're the target audience. It's made for Japanese people first and foremost. They just decided to make money from overseas markets, too. Also, why should a nation of people who typically never encounter Black people regularly feel the responsibility to represent us? It's corny and tone deaf when non-Black people beg to be included in Black-centered stories. The reverse is true, as well. Support more indie creators who make it a point to include "more POC" in their comics and graphic novels, and support creators telling different kinds of stories, not just checkboxes. The world is much broader than American ethnocentrism regarding race and ethnicity.

As of Chapter 81, this is crew of the Courageous from Time to Orbit: Unknown, a marvellous space drama and mystery by @derinthescarletpescatarian . Original sketches & character guide below. Many of the character appearances are based on headcanon, but the ones with asterisks are based on canon sources.
Tumblr media
I drew Celi first! I figured I would do the people in front, who I would have to draw most of their bodies, and work from left to right. Celi has had multiple organ issues, so she looks a little drawn (lol) and is still recovering in her wheelchair :). I drew her with small braids just hanging from the top of her head, as I imagine she’s too tired to take care of her hair very often, but still wants to keep some, so she has a sort of cap of braids. There’s probably a term for the style, but idk. Celi is of North African descent.
Tumblr media
Next to Celi is Renn. His head looks wonky because I was drawing at an angle at the time. He’s been mostly depilated, and I imagine him in a sort of Aang-meets-European-in-a-tracksuit outfit because he’s calm and tries not to do much drama, but is condescending. Renn is of West Asian/American/Tarandran descent.
Then we have Public Universal Friend (PUF) 2 with the twists. I figure it doesn’t want a lot of hair to take care of, and this style keeps it out of its face. Same clothes as the other PUF. It is kneeling, with one leg propped up. It is of coastal Southern East African descent.
*Then laying on the ground is Tal. Ke is looking at kes tablet because ke doesn’t like focusing on other things. Tal is unfortunately at the wrong angle to show off ke’s face tattoo. Small afro kept stylishly kept, along with some garters and a short skirt. Ke is laying down because ke feels like it. Ke is of West African/American/Texan descent.
*Then we have Aspen, the POV character, smack dab in the middle. Canonically, they’d don’t have a headband as far as we know, but I think their hair looks nice pushed up like that. They are wearing a jumpsuit like last time, but this time has a belt for flair, because Tal and Sunset convinced them. Aspen sits cross cross because they can and it’s a common sitting posture in Arborea. They are of West African/American/Arborea Atlantican descent.
Lina is kneeling like PUF2, but facing the other way. I gave her buns and square jewelery because I based her off of a Hopi woman’s ’do that I really liked, and Lina can be short for names like Catalina. She has freckles because they’re fun. She’s gained some muscle and weight since the last picture, which is great! She is of Hopi/Latin American descent.
Last is Sunset. She is a zeelite, a subculture interested in replicating and investigating pre-Neocambrian (aka our time) cultures. She is largely inspired by what she knows of punk, pastel goths, drag, and to be honest, Barbie (2023). She is voguing because she knows and appreciates the importance of looking good. Sunset is of Central African/of Sirius descent.
Tumblr media
Now for the top row, left to right again!
First, we have Heli. She wears functional but pretty clothes because she appreciates utility but always wants to show off what she’s got. The newest addition to the crew, she’s a little spiky, but has a soft spot for Adin. She was inspired by a picture of a Sistergirl from Australia (my headcanon, I only saw a picture of her and was unable to find more specific information). Heli is of Indigenous Australian descent.
*Next, we have Adin. I keep forgetting to draw him with tattoos, so I added a neck one last minute. His look has probably changed the most - his canon picture came out only a few months ago, so I drew him differently the first time. Adin cooks a lot, so he doesn’t try to wear anything or have a hairdo that could be ruined by cooking. Adin is of West African/Arborea Atlantican/American/Texan descent.
*Next up, the tallest of the bunch (and I forgot to draw his left arm until last minute, we have Denish! He’s doing the Arnold Schwarzenegger pose. The gentle Giant of the group, I was unable to recapture his face quite the same way as last time, but I still think he turned out well. He’s one of my favorite space pirates. I think he wears high collars to hide Tinera’s hickeys. Denish is of West African/American/Texan descent.
Right in front of Denish is PUF 1, AKA Dr. PUF. Still has tousled hair, still has the same robe. PUF is kneeling. It is of European descent.
*Hanging off of Denish is Tinera! She’s changed also, as her official looks came out, though I think I’ve kept her pretty nice looking still! I forgot to give her glasses though :(. I gave her Garnet (Steven Universe) finger gloves because they look cool. Tinera is of Central African/Lunarian descent.
Under Tinera is Sam. He’s partly visually inspired by the Dad of some kids I watch, and Ballister from Nimona. He likes to gaze at the stars and wonder about all the stories that will be told about them. Sam is of South Asian descent.
*Lastly is Keldin (AKA Captain Sands). He’s always dressed well and keeps his hair well-coifed. Hardly anyone from the ‘first’ crew likes him. He is standing awkwardly farther away because he knows everyone near him isn’t his tan. Keldin is of West African/American/Trandran descent.

STOP THE HATE FOR G3 AND NEGATIVITY ESPECIALLY WITH HOMOPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA, XENOPHOBIC, BODY SHAMING
IF YOU ONE THOSE PEOPLE BEING HATEFUL THEN YOU ARE NOT A TRUE MONSTER HIGH FAN, YOU JUST WANT TO START DRAMA, GET ATTENTION AND TALK SHIT
THE ORIGINAL MONSTER HIGH TAUGHT US TO BE KIND, RESPECTFUL AND OPEN MINDED TO PEOPLE ARE UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT
BE YOURSELF, BE UNIQUE, BE A MONSTER
I hate seeing so much hate to g3 so much, GROW UP, THE NEW GENERATION IS FOR KIDS YOU ASSHOLES, G3 IS STAYING AND DEAL WITH IT
g3 is for a new generation and g1 is not dead, there confirmed wave 2 of reproduction dolls of the originals, stop motion TIKTOK of the original ghouls and collectibles dolls of the original monster high meant for the older fans
g3 is more for the kids and a way to to introduce monster high to a new audiences with confirmed Lgbt characters and diversity in body types, heights and ethnicities If you think g3 is childish and having pop culture references
I got news the original was also childish too with their web series and got pop culture references
As much I love the original, they did not treat their characters like skelita, jinafire and other monsters with ethnicities right, skelita was pushed aside and jinafire very little appear
G3 got way more diversity than the original, with confirmed Lgbt characters with Frankie (non binary : they/them) and Latin characters with lagoona (Honduras) and Clawdeen (biracial Afro Latina) as well cleo with a dark skin tone and Draculaura being part asian (tawainesse) as well different heights and body types as well with disabilities with finnegan and many more to come
Not only that g3 will introduce more parents, deuce ‘s two moms, Draculaura’s mother and so much more, we seen very little of the parents in both G1 and G2
More G1 characters are coming back, manny taur, the werecat twins, nefera, howleen and much more as well there are hints for Venus and Gil
Like I say, G1 is not dead, there will be dolls meant for the older fans and collectors , G3 is a new generation
I’m sick of hearing bad stuff about lagoona, how she is supposed to be blue because of her last name or how she is now Latina, first of all her last name blue is a reference to the ocean which is the color: Blue and her being Latina is amazing, plus her being pink makes her look more tropical and her blue outfits now looks amazing on her, Her new personality is perfection, let her be a little chaotic, bubbly and little menace that watched ways too many telenovelas and is a hopeless romantic
THAT IS MY RANT, I LOVE G3
I WILL PROTECT IT AND DEFEND TILL THE DAY I DIE, I LOVE IT SO MUCH
THANKS FOR READING

Transformers Rise of the Beast and Earthspark do a lot to showcase and center black people and our experiences in respectful ways. The Bay movies were incredibly anti black and made cariactures of black people and culture. ROTB showcases afro latin characters and african american characters as well, and showcases them in very positive lights and makes them integegral to the plots in ways that do not make them jokes.
Likewise, Earthspark centers on a Black Filipino family that offers positive homage to both characters and ties black (and filipino immigrant) struggles to the struggles the bots face - both decepticons and autobots. and that is just really refreshing.
TF does not have a good record for how it's treated black culture despite black people being a huge chunk of the fandom. that's why i love rise of the beast and earth spark and i will be seated june 9th.

Personally do you like goth vaggie?
Also while vivziepop is latina and salvadoran but however she's white latina and come from rich family. So considering that no wonder some questionable writing on her character who's probably indigenous latina or afro latina. Whether from character writing or character design like luz noceda people didn't know she's afro latina from her design, also the creator of owl house doesn't have any poc in her team.
From her name, her accent, her voice actor who's higher chance not salvadoran. Encanto this movie i do not know if they involve colombian people behind the scenes however they atleast do research and the character feature, skintone, and culture are explicit will vivziepop did this? Simple no
I love goth Vaggie! My favorite (and imo the best) Vaggie design is this one!
Tumblr media
I don’t have high hopes Viv will respect the characters’ cultures in Hazbin just by everything so far. (Al’s voodoo, the racist stereotypes, making merch of demon sigils, bastardizing religious figures, the failed racism in Helluva Boss, and Blitzo x Stolas being the oppressed x oppressor trope) Though I honestly will be surprised if Viv fails writing Vaggie’s culture because it’s something personal to her. Viv has family members who could help her write Vaggie and wouldn’t you want to represent your culture as accurately and respectful as you can? However you do bring up good points, Vaggie not having an accent despite being in El Salvador her whole life is wrong and as Viv kept redesigning Vaggie, she lost designs elements relating to Latin America culture.

The reason the tweels don't let him cook is actually because all of his creations come out so spicy and flavorful it started scaring white customers
Floyd: Okinawan Japanese/Afro-Bajan, speaks Japanese & Patois
╰Mom: 🇯🇵 Dad: 🇯🇵🇧🇧
I think the tweels are more connected to their Japanese side than their Caribbean side, but Floyd says "gwan" all the time so who knows
He often mixes Japanese and common language. Not because he isn't fluent in common language but because he wants to
When cooking he tries to combine both cultures (sooo much curry...)
Jade: Okinawan Japanese/Afro-Bajan, speaks Japanese & Patois
Both Japan and Trinidad and Tobago have really cool tropical landscapes so i think hed be super proud of his ethnicity (AKA the greenery from where hes from)

Tumblr media
DIASOMNIA 🐉
Malleus: Han Chinese, speaks Mandarin, Gaelic, & a shit ton of other languages
mostly speaks Mandarin
can read/write traditional and simplified characters!
HONORABLE MENTION: someone hced him as having Jewish descent and speaking Hebrew!
Lilia: Mongolian & Chinese, speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, Gaelic, and a shit ton of other ancient languages
i think he speaks with a Northern Chinese dialect in Mandarin, I dont speak Canto or Hokkien so idk about that srry :,3
he drawls his 儿s a lot methinks mostly to get a point a cross
Sebek: Egyptian, Nenet Russian, Han Chinese, speaks Cantonese & some Gaelic
╰Mom: 🇷🇺🇪🇬 Dad: 🇨🇳
is trying really hard to be fluent in Gaelic so he can impress malleus
he already knew some Gaelic but just basic words/sentences
Silver: Han Taiwanese, Tibetan, & French speaks Mandarin
╰Mom: 🇨🇳🇹🇼 Dad: 🇫🇷
the difference between Taiwanese pronunciation vs Chinese pronunciation is that it sounds... "softer" (?)
with his character as a whole just having more slurred, soft words makes sense.
maybe he knows how to say like "hello" and "please" in Gaelic because he was pretty young when Lilia brought him in and he naturally picked up like... two words
also i hc he is tibetan because the wiki page said sleeping beauty is set in the himalayas? so i just ran with it LOL

Asha from "Wish" is not Afro-Latina, and I have no idea why people and news outlets are claiming that she is Afro-Latina representation/canonically Afro-Latina.
She is not Afro-Latina. Yes, she absolutely is African and she is hispanic, but hispanic =/= latine. But it absolutely breaks my heart to see people claiming Afro-Latina representation and praising Disney for this when there she is not Afro-Latina representation.
These are all of the countries where someone could be from and be Latino/e, AKA, Latin America.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Wish" takes place on an island in the Mediterranean Sea, which is a sea nestled between primarily Europe and Africa. The kingdom that Wish takes place in is a Hispanic country. Hispanic is commonly mistaken as synonymous with Latino/e, but it absolutely isn't. Hispanic can be related to Latino/e, but all it means is from or related to countries/regions that speak Spanish or are connected to Spain. All it really means, at its core, is "Spanish-speaking".
This is why a huge country like Brazil is a Latino/e /Latin American country but NOT Hispanic, despite nearly all other countries in Latin America being both Hispanic and Latino/e
Tumblr media
The Mediterranean is not a Latino/e region. It isn't even remotely close to Latin America.
Now, could she have emigrated from Latin America? I mean, sure, possibly, but actually no. Her parents are explicitly confirmed to be from the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa. Both of which are regions that are part of/touching the Mediterranean Sea region.
For those unaware, this is the Iberian Peninsula:
Tumblr media
It is a region that includes places such as Spain and Portugal, as well as many other countries, regions, and territories.
It is explicitly confirmed that her parents are from North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula here:
Tumblr media
If it's hard to read, the text on the image says:
"Asha is a beautiful character with a mother from North Africa and a late father from the Iberian Peninsula, so her features reflect her heritage. Learning more from our cultural consultant Dr. Aomar Boum about the cultural traditions of the Amazigh people in North Africa, including their history of braiding and ornamenting long hair, inspired me to explore a box braids hairstyle for Asha. - Bill Schwab, ART DIRECTOR, CHARACTER"
Note: Amazigh is not a typo of amazing (it may come across that way if you're using a screenreader, as "amazing people" in this context makes sense). The Amazigh people are indigenous inhabitants of North Africa.
That's all I have to say, but it just bothers me that people refer to her as Afro-Latina, which is an entirely different cultural experience and heritage than hers, which is being from the Iberian Peninsula and North African (Amazigh). (Another note: I do not say "Iberian" as that refers to a group of people that settled in the region a few thousand years ago). I wish she was celebrated for representing the regions she represents rather than falsely for representing a region that's on an entirely different continent.
To be clear, I think headcanoning her as whatever you want is absolutely valid. I'm not saying any of this because I am against representation. I am saying all of this because it is an objectively wrong fact and misinformation that contributes to people misunderstanding what Latino/e and Hispanic mean/are. I would love to have an Afro-Latina Disney Princess, but she isn't one. However, if you want Afro-Latino/e representation in Disney, I highly recommend "Encanto"!

I don't mean to be rude, but I wasn't expecting your bg3 ocs to be so conventionally attractive (in an eurocentric way)...
My only whitey white OCs are Allani and Emin? Everyone else is, in my head at least, not intended to be white. Even Arcene is just whitepassing. But half of my characters don't have human skin tones, so I can't blame you for not interpreting that.
Cassius is Native (I even intentionally included a metaphor for how white women exotify/objectify Native men in his backstory)
Arcene is Native (I even gave her my own personal history of internalized racism and identity crisis)
Allani is white
Astra is Afro-Asian (South Asian)
Benji is Afro-Latine
Emin is white
Zi'ra is Native
Briza, my newest character who I'm still working out details of, is also Native lol
I tend to talk more about my Native and white OCs only because I don't want to like, step over other creators with characters of their own race/ethnic backgrounds. But as a Mi'kmaw and white person, I'm not stepping on any toes with my own Native and white characters.
