“I thought I’d never find you.”

Julian nearly dropped the plate in his hands.

He turned slowly, and saw the mouth that had, smiling, said that everything would be alright. The arms that had held him when they were hiding from LaChasse. The eyes that he had thought he’d never see again; that were now glossy with the threat of tears.

“Alex.”

Alex beamed, and started to move towards Julian.

“Get out.”

The words came out harsher than Julian had intended, but he didn’t take them back. The last time he’d seen Alex, they were covered in bandages, unable to sleep because of the pain. They’d been shot, protecting him.

Alex halted, face awash with a hurt confusion.

Then, their expression darkened, and Julian was suddenly aware of the sparkling kitchen, the open dishwasher, the clean plates he’d been putting away just moments ago.

He realized how domestic it all looked.

Alex’s attention floated over the scene, landing finally on the diamond bracelet around Julian’s wrist.

They took a wary step back. “You’re not . . . with LaChasse, are you?”

Whatever shame Julian had been feeling, it vanished. Did Alex really think so little of him?

“It’s a tracker,” he said, voice flat. He tapped it on the countertop. “Real diamond.”

Impossible to break, impossible to remove.

Things had changed, after Julian’s little prison rebellion. The bright side was that LaChasse had not taken him to that holding cell again. The identification games had ceased, and so had the beatings.

The downside was that LaChasse almost never let him out of their sight.

Before, Julian had been left behind in the crime lord’s living quarters for most of the day. But now, he was dragged to business deals, strategic discussions, even shady meetings where brief cases were exchanged. Alex had found him in one of LaChasse’s rare moments of absence.

Julian was, of course, never allowed close enough to gather any kind of information. But whenever he moved, he found himself pinned under that hawk-steady stare.

At first, he had thought that LaChasse’s watchfulness was just a result of their suspicion. He’d released their prisoners, after all. It made perfect sense that they’d want to keep an eye on him.

At least, that’s what he’d thought, until that night.

They had been lying together, in front of that stupid fucking fireplace. Though, Julian had supposed, better the couch than either of their beds. LaChasse was playing with his hair, while he was trying to pretend he was literally anywhere else.

“You always find new ways to impress me,” LaChasse said into the silence.

Julian’s jaw tightened.

“I had thought, before, that you primarily existed to assist in my growth. To help me find other people, who would all be useful in their own ways.” They chuckled lightly. “To think, it took me this long to see your true worth.”

“You’re right. My real talents lie in my cake-baking skills.”

LaChasse traced their fingers down Julian’s neck, his shoulders. Along his scars. “You can see it all, can’t you? Not only whether or not someone is powered, but the details of it. The extent of their abilities – the strength, the range. Perhaps the weaknesses too.” Their voice was growing more fervent. “You can look at any group, and see how their powers fit together. Form the perfect strategy, to accomplish any goal.”

“If I were that much of a mastermind, I would’ve figured a way out of here by now.”

LaChasse’s grip was unrelenting. “You will never be able to sell yourself short to me, Julian. You are a geode, holding the most priceless of gems.” They placed a kiss on Julian’s temple, and his skin seized all over. “I just need to learn how to crack you open.”

Now, Julian was standing before Alex’s confused, frightened expression.

He wanted to take a moment to memorize that face. Their deep eyes, their soft lips. The laugh lines broadcasting a lifetime of joy.

But there was no time.

“You need to leave,” he said.

He grabbed Alex’s shoulders, spun them, and started pushing them towards the exit.

“Wait, what? No way I’m leaving you behind!”

“You don’t understand. You need to get out of here, because – ”

“Because you are deeply important to him.”

Julian whirled around.

LaChasse stood in the kitchen’s other entrance, a henchman by their side. Julian tried to run at them, but the henchman raised her hand, and froze him in place with her body-controlling power.

“Well,” LaChasse said, clasping their hands together, a shining grin on their face. “Now we’re finally getting somewhere.”

People asking about some color symbolism, Here’s some rambling (also ik it’s meaningless the Duffers aren’t that cool)

Yellow 🌼

The color of creativity and clear thinking

Brings joy and the color of fun, childish whimsy… self explanatory :)

“Color of the mind and intellect (Will the Wise)

Color of cowardice (Wills personal feelings, he’s obviously very brave)

Jealousy… self explanatory

Often used to act as warning (he’s the warning sign of upside down bs)

Blue 🦋:

Can bring peace and security (he’s both El and Wills security) him valuing the color blue can also be him seeking safety

Gives a sense of authority (he was their leader and main character for a while, can also be that Mike is desperately reaching for that sense of authority)

The color of trust, loyalty, and responsibility. (Friends don’t lie is HIS thing, loyal to a fault jumping off that cliff, and internalized guilt for failing his friends)

Color of depression, fragility, coldness… self explanatory

Extremely contradictory meanings to match his bouncing between being caring and being cold as well as the contradictions between how he acts and what he values and what he says

Will wants peace internally and externally and Mike IS that for him. Will is literally the light of Mike’s life: best thing I’ve ever done, go crazy together, the book of Will’s drawings, Mike is a fucking science nerd and dnd is his only outlet and the creativity and fun of it all is associated with Will. Also their negative color associations are eachothers major faults: Mike is a coward that won’t confront his problems, he gets jealous easily whereas Will is mentally fragile and probably depressed as he is literally fading into the background of his friends lives and his environment. They’re wearing each others faults so to speak and they balance eachother out.

Also, on the color wheel it goes 💛💚💙 they’re the primary colors and when they’re together they form green which is the color of balance, health, growth and success. Rebirth is a big one too, so maybe if Mike actually opens up to Will they can have some personal growth and a renewal of their relationship into something better. Green is also the color of envy which, according to the writers and whoever runs the twitters apparently the word to describe their relationship is “Jealousy” sooooo

I don’t think we take into account how terrifying the serpentine really are. Like ooooh yea spooky they’re evil and they can do crazy shit like hypnotize people and drill into the earth yea cool whatever. but like, I don’t think we’re really taking into account like them as a species??

Idk man, unless I’m missing something here, all of them are roughly the size of an adult human. Here’s some statistics for yall: a snake can only stand upright about 1/3 of it’s total body mass. So say, a 10ft snake in length could stand around 3 to 4ft. The average human man is about 5′7.5ft. Ok so a 10ft snake would stand like this next to an average guy:

(left fig is rated at height 5′7.5ft or 171.45 cm and right fig is rated at height 3.5ft or 106.68cm)

So cool, right? seems chill. that’s nature whoop di do or whatever

except all the generals of the Serpentine are around the same height as the tall guy, if not taller (more likely the latter). So if 1/3 of their body mass is about 171.45 cm (5′7.5ft), then that would make them about 514.40 cm in length. Or, you know. About 17 feet. Which is roughly the size of a canoe. Or about the legal standing point for competitive axe-throwing. Whichever one puts it more into perspective for you.

I mean, it’s a funny thought to think of a canoe being intimidating, but the idea of a snake being like 17ft in length, talking and with arms, with the ability to fight and use weapons, yea no fuck that.

But let’s not also forget that just because it’s an average height, it is not the absolute height. So some of these fuckers might be taller than 5′7.5ft. Some of them could range all the way up to 6ft or more; I mean, look at Pythor in comparison to Scales:

He towers over that motherfucker. He’s easily like 6′2ft or 6′3ft, if not more. And his head is bent down. If he stood up straight, or was laid out flat, jesus h christ could yall imagine???

and that’s just the generals. Like the regular serpentine warriors are the average male height iirc and they’re not built like regular snakes (as if the generals are), but they instead stand on two legs. and idk chief, but the thought of snakes, instead of slithering around, being able to run and stand like any other human being, trained specifically for fighting and killing, is something horrifying to me.

Anyways, the point of this was that i hate snakes and if i lived in ninjago i think i wouldve fucking died, elemental abilities be damned. thank you and good night
