you've known agatha ever since you were since a child. she taught you many things, like your chaos magic for example, as well as the existence of the multiverse and how special you were, err, about that last part, that kind old lady that you often saw in secret was very keen on it.

you really didn't thought much of it as a child, but things changed when you grew up, especially now that you were a teenager. as you honed your chaos magic and other witch abilities in secret under her mentorship, the kind old lady had changed.

agatha's obsession with you worsened as your powers and abilities significantly improved over time. her calm and collected demeanor began to deteriorate into something impatient and irritable that you couldn't pin down, but it eventually broke a fight between you two.

"why are you acting this way?! you weren't behaving this way before..." you argued, finally taking a stand.

"being like this? the only reason I'm like this is that—before agatha could finish her sentence, you finished it for her."

"you want something from me," you said, your [color] eyes frowning before darkening into a small glare, "isn't this no longer about me losing control or failing to master my abilities?"

for a split second, the old lady stared at you with wide eyes, until a laugh broke through your mask. you took a step away from her, confused, as a smile appeared on her lips.

"you've figured it out already, haven't you?" her voice had turned sinister, her features no longer resembled the sweet old lady you knew, "looks like you're no longer a baby witch, [name]."

before you could say anything else, violet vapor-like hues shrouded her body, and the next thing you knew, her appearance had changed. she no longer resembled a grandmother, but rather a much younger woman with brunette hair and violet glowing eyes. she then walked up to you, floating in mid-air, her feet just a few centimeters above the ground, cupping your face.

"i don't think i've told you this before, have i?" agatha asked, her eyes darkened.

you watched as she flicked her free hand, causing the darkhold, an unearthly grimoire, to appear beside you and her. you stood there watching as the book opened before agatha's violet wisps of magic and promptly stopped at one page.

"did you think the higher-ups of jujutsu tech were afraid of you because you possessed something that wasn't jujutsu?" agatha explained as you furrowed your brows.

"what are you saying?" you asked, giving her an incredulous look.

"you're a being who can travel universes, and at the same time, a being of unfathomable magic; the harbinger of chaos. you're the scarlet witch, [name]." agatha chuckled, removing her hand from your face to place it on her hip as she pointed her free hand at you.

"you even have a whole chapter from the darkhold devoted to you, [name], just like your other variant did," agatha continued talking, "the scarlet witch is not born, she is forged. she has no coven; no need for incantation."

you shifted your gaze to the darkhold page where agatha had stopped and found yourself staring at a drawing of a woman with unholy symbols and the following words.

"why are you telling me this now? so, what if i'm the scarlet witch?" you pursed your lips into a thin line and clenched your fists.

"and here i thought you were finally getting the full picture [name]!" agatha scoffed, "ugh, it doesn't matter anyway. i've already spent too much time pretending to be your kind old grandma of a mentor. i've waited for your chaos magic and power to hone over the years with enough patience, this should be enough now."

you could see her violet psionics appear and surround the area you and she were in from the corner of your eye.

returning your gaze to her, you sighed deeply and hung your head low. you didn't know how to feel about everything, especially how the old lady you looked up to ended up manipulating you, using you all those years, pretending to be a kind mentor to you, all for this.

"i expected better from you.." you remarked sadly, almost devoid of emotions.

"aww, sweetie, i know this might be a lot to take in, but.. i did what i had to do!" agatha laughed madly.

"no, i'm not talking about that," you shook your head, calmly approaching her, perplexing her, "it's just that... i think you forgot that i was astral projecting myself to you the whole time."

agatha's face was filled with horror and surprise as you vanished from her sight in the blink of an eye. at the thought of being defeated by you, she screamed and violet vapor-like hues scattered throughout her surroundings. her magic's turbulence caused the place to crumble.

as the witch thrashed the place, she only set one thing in mind. she absolutely must have you. the unique scarlet witch variant capable of traveling across universes

when you returned your soul to your physical form, you immediately exorcised the curse that had been assigned to you. you picked up your legs as your mind wandered to your family figures and you felt your soul return to you. agatha desires your magic, and given her desperation, she will most likely go after your family.

you're almost out of time.

it was only a matter of time before she arrives.

you had warped to jujutsu tech using your red psionics and found megumi and his classmates, yuuji, nobara, maki, panda, and inumaki, as well as gojo and nanami.

when yuuji noticed you running towards them, he yelled enthusiastically, "[name]-chan! oi!"

"huh, looks like [name]-chan finished her mission early," nobara exclaimed, placing her hands on her hips.

"welcome back, kikufuku!" exclaimed gojo, raising a hand in his hair to high-five you when he and everyone else noticed your frantic expression, "kikufuku?" he inquired, puzzled.

before you could reach them, you let out a pained cry as an abnormally large blast of violet struck you from behind, resulting in a massive debris and smoke explosion. the jujutsu sorcerers rushed into action, including principal yaga and your auntie shoko, who felt the tremor of such power and ran to where you were.

as soot filled the atmosphere, you painfully pushed yourself up and turned around to see agatha herself in her dark robes, floating in mid-air, surrounded by her own violet psionics.

"[name]! are you okay, [name]?!" gojo panicked, grabbing you as he and the others looked up, and upon looking up, your adoptive father pulled down his blindfold to reveal his wide eyes, which instantly revealed everything about her, "you.. you're.."

"i'm the one who told you about your daughter," agatha finished gojo's sentence with a dark grin.

"what do you want from her?" gojo hardened his crystalline blue six eyes into a glare as he protectively held your form close to his chest as you used chaos magic to patch yourself up while the other jujutsu sorcerers all narrowed their eyes at the other witch who was cackling.

"you have no idea how much i longed for her power. her power exceeds that of the sorcerer supreme, and the fact that she can travel the universe makes her a supernatural being!" agatha declared with a sinister smile before unleashing a large blast of violet magic, "my variant might have failed to have the scarlet witch, but not with this one! she's mine!"

you vanished into a red mist from gojo's hold once you were fully patched up. you had flown upwards and used your own magic to deflect hers.

"hands off my family," you growled, your [color] eyes turning a menacing and glowing crimson red color.

they watched in awe and horror as you and agatha traded magical blasts in the sky until you began to incorporate the lessons you had learned from gojo himself, as well as yuuji's and maki's. you appeared and vanished stealthily before securing blasts and a couple physical hits of jabs and hooks at agatha that were imbued with your red psionics.

you had vanished once more just before agatha could hit you back, but this time you had completely hidden your presence. you were imperceptible, even to agatha, who is sensitive to energies similar to yours.

you had made yourself known as agatha scanned her surroundings for you. you'd appeared behind her, your eyes dangerously glowing red. you whispered in her ear as red vapor-like hues emerged from your twitching fingers, and just like that, you'd gotten into her head, but your power was so immense that you'd brought every single jujutsu sorcerer into the illusion of agatha's fear with you.

the jujutsu sorcerers looked around. they found themselves in an eerie dark coven, surrounded by corpses, with you and agatha. as they watched you stand before agatha, who was bound to a wooden stake, they found themselves swallowing hard.

the sight of this illusion reminded gojo, megumi, yuuji, and nobara of the time when your chaos magic had gone haywire by accident. you'd gotten inside everyone's heads and shown them their worst nightmares.

"some things just never change," megumi said, his sweat dropping as he remembered how terrifyingly real the illusion you had put him under felt.

"you know, the other scarlet witch did this too when she was facing my variant," agatha said, a smug expression crossing her features, indicating how unfazed she was by the creepy and dark surroundings, "and she failed."

with that, all of the hooded corpses' heads snapped towards you in unison. You found yourself flinching and gasping in terror as each of them approached you, whispering chants of your name and a prophecy.

"[name]!" screamed gojo as he pushed through the corpses with nanami, megumi and the others, trying to shield you as fear overtook you.

"scarlet witch!"

a hooded corpse exclaimed with the others, pointing a bony finger at you, causing you to back away and press your back against the stake where agatha had previously been.

"it is written.. it is foretold.. the scarlet witch.." they all murmured endlessly at you, "it is your destiny to destroy the world.."

more limbs and corpses of the dead rose from the ground and seized you, binding you to the stake instead as they blocked gojo and the other jujutsu sorcerers attempting to reach you. their techniques were rendered powerless as a result of being placed under your illusion.

the choruses of corpses saying the same thing over and over again filled your head to the point where you felt overwhelmed and nauseous.

they all sound like a broken record.

"power isn't your problem, dear. it's knowledge," agatha spat out as she grinned wickedly, calmly levitating towards you, her expression softening for a brief moment, "think about it, [name]. once i receive your power, you won't have to carry the burden anymore. you'll be a normal girl. i won't let you be alone, and you'll never be something they all fear again."

agatha's words mesmerized you, like the snake beckoning eve to eat the forbidden fruit in the garden of eden. god, her words took you back to those sleepless nights when you wondered what it would be like to be just like the other kids.

possessing your gift had never been easy for you in your entire life. your blessing, as ironic as it was, was also your curse. despite the fact that you had gojo and megumi, as well as your other family-figures like your uncle nanami, to love and protect you from higher-ups and danger, it had always been lonely for you.

apart from them, you had no other friends. children your age were terrified of you. even when you enrolled in a non-jujutsu school as a teenager in the hopes of fitting in, it was just the same struggle.

you were human, but you lived in a completely different world than they did.

with a shakey sigh, you found yourself lowering your head as a red tiara appeared on your head, delicately framing your features, mesmerizing the jujutsu sorcerers and agatha as it glowed amidst the dark forest and dimly lit torches,

heavy is the head that wears the crown.

"no.. [name]-chan.. that's not.." yuuji muttered, shaking his head and turning to gojo and the others who were staring at you, speechless, "she can't actually be thinking about it."

gojo gazed at you with sympathy and heartbreak. he may not be able to read your mind, but he knew exactly what you were thinking. truth be told, agatha's proposal was something you wanted and would undoubtedly be a dream you'd like to have, so he couldn't really blame you if you were seriously considering it.

"don't listen to her! snap out of it, [name]!" screamed nobara, cupping her hands around her mouth to make her voice louder, but in doing so, agatha narrowed her eyes and shifted her attention to her and the other sorcerers.

"be quiet!" snarled agatha, reaching out her hands to bobara, violet wisps of magic glowing from her dark fingertips.

"you be quiet! shut up!" you screamed in frustration and closed your eyes.

your red psionics had exploded repulsively, disintegrating every single corpse that was restraining you to the stake, your emotions amplifying your chaos magic. you lunged at agatha, who was caught off guard for a split second by your sudden aggression now that you were free.

you had broken the illusion by tackling agatha while also transporting the jujutsu sorcerers to a much safer location, as agatha's magic had earlier destroyed the grounds and school. as you and agatha flew through the sky, you hurled abnormally large blasts of red psionics at her, your frustrated screams echoing across the dark atmosphere, where dark storm clouds began to form.

"take my power then! i don't want it anymore!" you exclaimed in between screams, surprising gojo and the jujutsu sorcerers.

"[name]! what are you doing?!!" screamed gojo, using his infinity to lift himself higher to reach you but was stopped by a red force field you had set up while simultaneously sending large blasts of chaos magic at agatha, "[name]!"

you ignored your adoptive father and continued to let agatha absorb every ounce of magic you fired at her. you had become so careless and consumed by your emotions that your aim had deteriorated to the point where your red psionics were missing.

"looks like the brat had finally lost it, huh?" scoffed sukuna, the king of curses, as he looked at you from his vessel's cheekbone, "pity."

"shut up!" yuuji yelled, slapping his cheekbone, err, sukuna who appeared on his face as an eye and mouth, "[name] is not... she just... she just..." he trailed off eventually, clearly unsure what to argue at this point.

after squandering your magic on pointless shots, you levitated in mid-air, panting for air as the glow in your eyes faded to a pale red. you were exhausted now, but agatha still wanted more, "release your burden! let me take it all from you, [name]!"

the other witch spread her arms wide open as she absorbed your chaos magic by force, causing you to scream, but despite the pain coursing through your body, you willingly gave it all. the jujutsu sorcerers were mortified as they screamed for you as they watched the scene.

you floated up there with little strength or power, as agatha relentlessly absorbed your chaos magic from your body. your once-healthy features had deteriorated. you appeared to be on the verge of death as your half-lidded eyes began to close—perfect.

"after all those years of pretending, it's all mine. the scarlet witch's power. it's finally mine!" agatha laughed maniacally as her tainted fingertips glowed violet, brimming with power—your power, to be exact, "HAHAHA! MINE!"

as the life in your eyes began to fade, gojo's heart clenched painfully. this cannot be. no.

he can't lose you.

gojo clenched his fists and prepared to use his cursed technique on the witch when he felt it, his six eyes brimming with rage as he screamed. as he failed to use his limitless cursed technique, gojo's eyes widened. He looked down at his hands, then at the others, who all had the same look of realization on their faces.

the glowing violet wisps of agatha's psionics had completely dissipated just as she was about to use her magic on you to finish things once and for all, leaving her perplexed, "w-what what's happening?!"

your form became healthier and returned to its original state as you straightened your posture and lifted your head. you looked at the other witch, who was nervous, blankly before quickly waving your raised hand in the air.

your red psionics engulfed the entire environment whole, just like the veil jujutsu sorcerers put up when they need to hide the existence of curses as they exorcise them, but this right now was your very own domain expansion, or so they like to call it.

"when did you.. but.." agatha found herself stumbling her own words, "these are runes."

"shit.. she planned the whole thing out.." maki's eyes widened in disbelief as she spoke, but a smirk crept across your features, along with inumaki, panda, nobara, and megumi, as yuuji's face lit up with hope.

panda chuckled as his ears twitched happily, "heh, i almost fell for [name]'s acting for a second there."

"salmon!" inumaki said in agreement as he nodded his head.

"that's my daughter right there," gojo exclaimed, his heart swelled with relief and pride at seeing you, and coincidentally, nanami, too had uttered, "that's my niece," at the same time with a smirk on his face.

"in case you forgot, only the witch who casts them, can use her magic in this given space," you said, tilting your head to the side, a gesture you were known for when things were about to get ominously dangerous. the crimson red tiara materialized on your head once again, "i don't need you to tell me who or what i am because i know who or what i exactly am."

agatha was rendered speechless. a miscalculatation. how could she possibly have forgotten? had the darkhold corrupted her to the point where she made a grave error? of course you were aware. in reality, you'd known exactly what to do from the moment you were allegedly bound to the stake in the illusion you'd concocted for agatha. the secret glimpses you had of the other scarlet witch that had done this exactly before revealed the answer to you because of your special multiversal ability.

the tables were turned in an instant. Instead of agatha stealing your magic, you stole it this time. the violet energy from agatha began to turn crimson as you absorbed it, and then a bright red glow began to emanate from you, and it glowed brighter and brighter until the color shifted to white, almost blinding.

as everyone struggled to shield their eyes, they found themselves staring at your silhouette, which was changing into something else, confirming the unearthly grimoire's prophecy.

the scarlet witch is born, she is forged.

she has no coven; no need for incantation.

the atmosphere shifted dramatically. the heavy pressure lingering in the air had become heavier and more intense than before. in fact, it was on a completely different level. as the bright glow that engulfed your body faded, there you were, in all your glory, as the prophesied being who was to destroy and rule the world—the scarlet witch.

"no.. this cannot be.." agatha shook her head as she stared at you, knowing exactly what was going on, "what have you done?!"

you weren't wearing your old customized jujutsu uniform anymore. you were now dressed in the red robes and regalia of the personified legend you had received after defeating and absorbing agatha's magic: a red chestplate with angular faulds extending into an ankle-length skirt, elbow-length red fingerless gloves, black trousers and thigh-high boots, and an intricate red tiara.

with a gentle flick of your wrist, you had broken down the hex, err, domain expansion and ripped a red portal through the horizon as you twitched your fingers to hold her in place using your red psionics, "you will leave this world and never come back again," you said calmly as you levitated towards her trembling form.

"no, no! stop! you can't do this to me, [name]!" agatha struggled at your mercy but was rendered powerless before you, which you softly chuckled at, "listen to me! i mentored you! you wouldn't have become the scarlet witch if it weren't for me!"

"no, that's where you're wrong, agatha," you shook your head at her before reaching out your hand and pushing her straight into the portal to who knows where, your lips curved into a smirk, "i have always been the scarlet witch."

after you had pushed agatha in and closed the red portal, you descended back to the ground, where you were immediately tackled by your one and only adoptive father, gojo satoru, as the other jujutsu sorcerers darted towards you.

"kikufuku!" gojo embraced you tightly before cupping your face in his much larger hands, "you nearly had me worried there!"

"we thought you were really giving up!" exclaimed yuuji, and the others nodded in agreement.

you chuckled softly and held the nape of your neck with a sheepish smile, "sorry about that.."

"that was really impressive though," maki stated with a smirk as she folded her arms across her chest.

"and you've got.. a whole new look now too!" panda motioned over at the red robes and regalia of the scarlet witch you were wearing.

"ah, yes!" you exclaimed, pulling away from your adoptive dad to twirl and show your outfit off to them.

"you look stunning, [name]!" nobara draped an arm over her shoulder as she drew you to her side, causing you to laugh, "ugh, what an absolute girlboss you are."

"your chaos magic energy feels incredibly different too," yaga pointed out.

"i agree with yaga-sensei, your psionics earlier weren't even comparable to a special grade level anymore. in fact, it even feels beyond that." shoko said in addition.

"of course not," everyone's attention was quickly drawn back to the king of curses, who had made himself known yet again, "it's just as that other witch and her undead coven said. it's [name's] destiny to destroy the world. she was meant to rule everything."

"[name] wouldn't do that, sukuna!" yuuji immediately argued, slapping himself in the face to silence the king of curses.

"ohoho~ but it is written and foretold," sukuna then retorted, appearing on the back of Yuuji's hand.

"sukuna's not wrong." a deep sigh escaped your lips as you rubbed your arm with a dark glaze over your [color] eyes for a second.

you remembered the glimpse of what had occurred in the other universe, the one that agatha was talking about, earth-616, knowing exactly what the other scarlet witch had discovered and done upon using the darkhold, as you earned sympathetic looks from them, "i was meant to rule everything. it is my destiny."

"kikufuku..." gojo's sweat dropped for a second.

"but that's not what i want," you said, shaking your head and clenching your fists as you looked straight into their eyes with yours that were filled with determination.

"[name].." megumi's lips twitched into a smile.

"i don't really understand much of this power yet, but.. i will," you lifted your hand, making an incoherent twitching movement with your fingers, using your red psionics to engulf the entire school, fixing everything up after it had been destroyed to bits earlier by agatha's havoc, "and i'll use it to help people and exorcise curses, even if that includes you, sukuna."

sukuna found himself widening his eyes in surprise, then laughing fondly at your audacity as you projected your soul into his very domain, which was slightly transparent with red glowing eyes. you weren't a little witch any longer.

you've grown up, become stronger and more powerful, and the thought amused him. you were no longer the child who forced him to watch baby shark videos and have tea parties with you. you don't call him your "kuna-nii" anymore either.

the king of curses never imagined the day you'd threaten him, but he was proud, and it was an honor to be targeted by the scarlet witch.

The Cycle of 'Success' in Jujutsu Kaisen. [Leaks & Spoilers up to 225]

There's an interesting phenomenon that I've only really seen in Jujutsu Kaisen. If you're apart of the JJK community you've probably seen some variation of this image:

Incase images don't load I'll describe it for you. The Cycle of JJK >Chapter where an ability is explained for half the chapter >Fans say "Gege has been running on fumes since Shibuya this is trash" >Cool thing happens because of the set up >Fans say "Gaygay my goat, I kneel!" It's interesting right? I can't say I've seen another manga that's had a reception like this. The only thing I can really say is similar is One Piece but even then it doesn't compare to the cycle. It's hard to analyze because there's not really another series that has or had a similar sort of thing going on with it. I feel like I'll write this whole thing out and have absolutely nothing to say. I think the main thing to blame are the Leaks. JJK has a rather unique leak situation. For those of you unaware there is a person on twitter who goes by Myamura who every week (that there is a chapter) will go through and post raw scans of each page on their twitter. There's a window of about 1-2 hours where these scans are up before they're deleted and Myamura goes private again. Each Page is posted one by one and accompanied by a caption that describes the text and events in the scan. It gives people far more time to linger on singular pages. It makes a chapter that would otherwise last 10 minutes last 6-12x that. So a singular page lasts as long as the chapter itself would take to read. Not only that but the scans descriptions aren't really- Accurate. This isn't to rail against Myamura at all of course. Leaks are going to happen at any rate so there's no point in getting mad at someone who circulates leaks. But still this goes without saying that this leads to many flawed perceptions of chapters which haven't even released yet. The most recent example I can think of is chapter 222.

This page alone was able to entirely shift the view of chapter 222 from being one of the most garbage rushed chapters into one with immense intrigue. All because this page wasn't properly translated and described within the initial leaks. Of course the leaker later cleared this up and the view of this chapter instantly flipped. And this happens for every chapter. THIS IS WHERE I TALK ABOUT 225 AND MAJOR SPOILERS WITHIN IT IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF 225 STOP READING HERE AND COME BACK ONCE THE CHAPTER IS OFFICAL RELEASED IM SERIOUS HERE IT'S BIG YOU PROBABLY WANNA EXPERIENCE IT BLIND IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY

Alright then. Lets continue. The reason I want to talk about 225 is because it encapsules the entire cycle in a single chapter. We got like 6-8 pages of people just talking about the Gojo Vs. Sukuna fight while not seeing any of it during it. It was essentially just a recap of the last chapter. (One of my boys finally showed up in a chapter hi Kashimo)

this is very much the "Gege is running on fumes" portion of the chapter. Beat to beat honestly. While unlikely I feel like Gege has begun to structure some of these chapters knowing about the leaks. Of course this is just- Not True.

Then the 'mediocre' first half is followed directly after by the SECOND domain clash in the series. That's right this is only the SECOND actual domain clash in the entire fucking series. It's ridiculous. It's interesting to follow what people are thinking page to page. Me and my friends will discuss the leaks as they happen. I also tend to look at the leak hashtag as it happens. It basically goes like this. >"SNOREEEEEEEEE This chapter is boring as fuck what is gege doing" >"Finally back to the action" >"KICK HIS ASS GOJO KILL HIMMMMMMM BEAT HIS ASS" >"Oh shit." >"well Gojo's dead" or "he'll get up gojo's fine [Copium]" I believe the main thing this can be attributed to is the fact JJK is a near unholy mixture of building blocks. Like throwing Hunter X Hunter into a usual Shonen Series. Seen no where better than Hakari's Domain Expansion.

This fucking monster of an ability has an entire double page spread dedicated to explaining how it works. Most of my friends who where also reading weekly had no fucking CLUE what the hell it did until the end of the Kashimo fight. Even then there was still confusion on what it actually did aside. Odds are a decent amount of people reading this don't fully understand it (Which is fair). So then why doesn't HxH have a similar cycle of 'hype'? The main thing is expectations. When you read HxH you expect a cerebral combat system based around very intricate rules lawyering details which need to be stepped around. Fights in HxH also don't command such an enormous part of the story as they do in JJK. The biggest fight in HxH is Chrollo Vs. Hisoka. It can be debated it's actually Meruem Vs. Netero however I'll stick to the former for this example. The Fight between Chrollo and Hisoka lasts from Chapter 351 to 356. Only 5 chapters. This is one of the longest stretches where there's actual brutal to the death fighting. The only other times there are even comparable to this is the ENTIRE Chimera ant palace invasion arc (where the fights are all one sided and based on stalling) or the dodge ball game. Now compare this to JJK. Shibuya was almost ENTIRELY a bloodbath. Shibuya is nearly 60 chapters long. In fact it surpasses that if you include the evening festival arc which is preparing for Shibuya. Most fans of JJK only started reading after Shibuya ended. (Myself included I started reading during the month long hiatus after the Zenin massacre.) So the expectations are there- Readers want to feel a similar high to Shibuya. But that just isn't possible while you're reading weekly. You have time to process events and question what comes next when you only have 1 chapter a week to read. This is an 'issue' all weekly manga face. But especially with JJK because it has a similar thing going on with HxH where it has these advanced abilities with complex usages. But JJK is a much more balanced verse with the exclusion of a few stinkers (Gojo, Sukuna, Kenjaku). So these fights can't so easily be predicted like they can in HxH.

All of this is to say, Expectations matter. Both to the author writing a piece of ongoing fiction, And to the audience who consumes it. There's a reason Binge "culture" is as prominent as it is. Stories like these are meant to be consumed close together. It would be like watching a movie but you can only watch it 10 minutes at a time once a week. When people don't see that progression chapter to chapter (One Piece is really good at this) they become disappointed. Even if a chapter is important in the long run if it doesn't pay off something when it's released it'll often be seen as boring or useless. To use an example from One Piece. Look at Skypiea. Uh- Spoilers for one piece btw I'll be brief because this isn't a One Piece post. Skypiea is an arc that takes place right between Alabasta and Water 7. Both of these are INCREDIBLY impactful and majorly important arcs. So Skypiea being in-between them of course bring a lot of expectations that it will immediately be another very impactful arc. However- It isn't. Atleast it wasn't- Not until recently. Due to events near the end of Wano Saga Skypiea saw a resurgence of fans due to events that happened in it turning out to be incredibly important foreshadowing. To summarize; JJK has a unique mix of story building blocks, Action and Leaks. All of this serves to create a sort of perfect storm around the perception of the series. So remember- GEGE IS A FRAUD HE'S RUNNING ON FUMES SINCE SHIBUYA CHAPTER [Insert Chapter Number] IS TRASHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

MHA 395 spoilers bc im rambling ??

Is there something to be said about how Himiko Toga is so often associated with a liquid?? Contrasting Uraraka with solids??? feel free to skip but i have Words to say heehaaheehahehahehahoo i love symbolism!!!!!! and girls!!!

Maybe I sound insane but Toga’s association with blood, her disguise being a sludge (mix of liquid and solid), in the most recent chapters of MHA there’s waves raging around the fights, it later rains. Toga using Twice’s quirk which is also sludge-y, colored in the anime to literally look like mud (which i always thought was a lil reference to the “life from clay” trope in mythology and stories).

Liquids taking the shape of whatever vessel they inhabit- reference to the villain’s reoccurring theme in the story of “Because of how the environment raised them, they became this way/ if things were different, they would’ve ended up different”.

But also Toga personally, intimately, with how she views her quirk of Transformation- using the blood of a person, the rivers in the vessel, to then *become* them. In the way water forms to whatever contains it, she wants to become the people she loves.

And how in her final moments of the latest chapter, she becomes Uraraka- but her face, her fangs, her smile, still peek through the transformation. Toga loved a hero, and then *became* that hero, in order to save her, just like Uraraka tried to save Toga.

Uraraka being the solid, the container, the form, rock-steady. She’s firm in her beliefs but doesn’t sway from trying to understand and acknowledge Toga’s pain and experiences. She’s realistic, almost materialistic. Her motivation to become a hero was literally to provide her family a comfortable life, and to put the hearts of people around her at ease. Her quirk is subversive yet connected to her grounded personality- to make things weightless, defying the orderly tug of gravity.

She sees Toga’s pain, and after such a journey of understanding that pain, she decides to be exactly what kind of hero she wants to be- to save people, to bring smiles to the peoples faces around her.

Earlier in the manga, during their second major confrontation during the War arc, when Toga corners Uraraka to ask her intentions- She acts directly, “What do you wanna do to me?” There’s fear there. Uraraka has only ever known Heroism as the position of Savior- Toga’s only ever felt the loom of an Executioner. She’s asking: Do you see me as a villain, or victim?

Thank you for all the recent love on Mayfly in Milk, it means a lot when people share and leave their thoughts on my comic.

I don't plan to stop writing it, it's been a major passion project for me for over a year and there's so much content in the works.

Even though there hasn't been romance so far.. I'll say that there is going to be ShimaMine at a later stage. Given recent events I understand if people don't want to see that, and I'll also probably stop using the series and character tags on my comic just so people don't come across it who don't want to.

I already established a few chapters ago that Minegishi and Shimazaki are age 21 and 23 in the flashback, putting them around 27 and 29 after Claw, and that's what I'm rolling with from now on.

I'm also going to leave my mayfly scripts here.. partly as a record of where i got to before the fanbook release, in case i stop continuing. they're in a rough shape, obviously since this was the first stage of the creation and im slightly self conscious about the state of them. but I feel like having them here because i probably won't touch this folder again, nothing's been updated here since about August 2022 anyway.

But if i DO continue, well the scripts have mayfly spoilers. obviously.

(because i know some of my followers are in the process of reading it, moderate Slow Damage spoiler ahead)

if i was fond of re-reading stuff meticulously, id be tempted to reread slow damage's rei route and chapter 2 of uuultraC in japanese.

because, while its nice to see yaoi VN tackling gender queering more lately...

its frustrating as well!

i feel like a lot of things get done right, and a lot of things also leave me scratching my head

im really fond actually of the fact that both times lately ive been reading a very recent VN and the genderqueer character in question is a seme. i do feel like theres elements that could because of that be read in poor taste, as seme is kind of "sex pest" as a role... but... its nice because for so long, the uke was always more feminine, or rather just less masculine. i like seeing uke and seme played with while staying clear in the roles.

I like Rei for the most part. He deals with talking about the social taboo even within queerness of the japanese conformist pressure that you're either a masculine gay man or a feminine straight trans woman. And a lot of that is done fine! I think its well written at times but... not so much at others. And the failure to communicate really sometimes makes it confusing... as a reader there was times were i wasnt sure what Rei was saying at all, and while i think its realistic for him to flip back and forth on if hes trans or cis, i think it wasnt really cleared up in the end very well... until we get to ... the end. They set Rei up SO WELL to have made peace with being GNC and still support his trans friends, and to have trans friends and that doesnt mean his gender is invalidated. It was perfect it was FINE. I really, REALLY do not understand the need to make him gender conforming again. But its been said to death, so... it really feels like the novel is AGREEING with social pressure because of doing that. like, "oh dont worry, very suddenly we find out that rei isnt GNC after all for the last 5 mins here hahaha" just re-enforces that he cant be GNC without being trans when you have him realize he's cis and then immediately do a full turn into being masculine. i kind of feel like the Rei "good end" is a "bad end" because of that...

But at least its clear in the end

While I like Belle as a genderqueer character more than i like Rei as a GNC character, i feel like i say genderqueer with a sort of "(?)" behind it...

my complaint is... they dont tell us! Thank GOD this novel doesnt have a bigger fanbase, the discourse would be horrible... and while in some ways i respect not saying anything explicitly more, its... difficult then to approach Belle's character.

She's clearly firm when she'd like to be that she wants to be referred to with feminine titles. But she doesnt assert shes a woman, or really deny when Shirou calls her a crossdresser. And thats fine, its rather normal for japanese queerness to be a gay man who uses feminine titles and pronouns without being trans. the lines are blurred a lot more than they are in the west and especially USA. Belle was raised as a girl and now that she's not under the control of her parent anymore, doesnt really reject a lot of that. I think it'd be easy to say that Belle probably... Is used to it, and feels more out of place being referred to and seen as masculine than she does as feminine, because she grew up hearing it. She considers herself a man and is not uncomfortable with her body because her femininity isnt womanhood- its femininity. Shes comfortable in her sex and gender. Thats one of the major points of chapter 2- the only person who's uncomfortable with her sex and gender is Choutsugai. She's so comfortable in herself that when he insults her, she doesnt really care.

So... why isnt this good writing...? Well, it is. but it COULD be better.

My problem comes from the fact that this not being clearly stated is paired with Belle's return to Shirou being... after he has interactions with a trans woman. As well as being right after Shirou literally gets genderbend TFed for a few minutes enough to see his tits pop out of his shirt. It felt like they were hovering around Belle being trans specifically for a little while there. Thats confusing storytelling regardless of your cultural background. I mean for fucks sake, he has a wet dream where she has a cartoonishly female body and longer hair. Its just strange.

Of course, i prefer Belle over Rei any day. I really like the way she exists as "so what" approach to her gender, but is also not afraid to put her foot down when she feels like someone's using the wrong language. As much as i hate her (as a character who does shitty things: is a seme...) its awesome to have a she/her gay. ADELTA really did so much in UuultraC, but also messed up so much, its really unfortunate. i like that her attitude towards choutsugai's "you're a crossdressing drag queen!!!!" is "yea. anyways" its refreshing to see a character not act like thats a horrible insult they have to deny, but that its something thats okay to be, and totally neutral, and he looks weird for saying that in that tone.

Im really hoping the next releases from both N+C and ADELTA will have even better representation for gender nonconformity and queerness, especially with how much the fandoms loved both Rei and Belle. Hopefully theyll not be afraid to get more adventurous and daring because of the support, or at the very least will keep making more in the same level of braveness and hopefully make one thats great because of that. Id rather a kinda poorly done exploration of that then none at all.

want to say first off thing i wanna ramble is yaad and the rest of the old kingdom..

cause yeah no marcille is prob totally right that they arent turning to dust cos the the dungeon border broke and spilled out.

like remember they turn to dust cos of the crossing the border. before recent events, the dungeon held all the "magic" from the winged lion. it was stuck in there only. so of course they would turn to dust past it.

the flashbacks further clear up things

dungeon was like a space the winged lion existence was trapped within in a sense. before that it seemed their "power" was more unlimited. like they say in this chapter the world became/was an extension.

so yknow. stands to reason breaking the border and having the winged lion all leak out would mean than now the old kingdom should not turn to dust.

HOWEVER HOWEVER

marcile also brings up the point:

like she said earlier we can assume that effects of dungeon arent gonna dissipate right away despite the winged lion being "gone"

but then why did the dungeon collapse more suddenly. i think i understand why. but im not sure how to word it right now. but i think it important to think about want the dungeon was.

I ALSO wanted to talk about Laios right now cause. Aheem.

it is no surprise to me that he feels like this.

i mean he did just give into his darkest desires in such a big exposed way. the winged lion was correct in many ways about laios during their big conversation in Winged Lion III

like ive said before, its easy to peg laios as just a silly weirdo with a silly monsters obsession but it was never actually just a silly thing. it was always this open peephole into someone with a very concerning relationship with humanity.

he lived a miserable life alienated from other people. laios was a man who ultimately did not want to deal with humanity anymore. so he latched onto monsters instead in escapism.

a part of laios really did prefer monsters over people.

and THIS has been a major thing in laios' arc throughout the whole manga. this is a manga about desire in many ways. how ppls desires can be selfish, complex, and dark. and laios has been lead by his from the start...

BUT in his journey he has developed genuine connections with others and it has reflected change in that complicated humanity of his. And that has become his conflict.

The part of him still attached to the humanity that has become meaningful to him. His sister. His friends. The vulnerable part that still wants it all.

The part of him that honestly still feels like throwing humanity away. Not bother with all the struggle of it all. Give into the ultimate escapism.

Because isnt that what ultimately the Winged Lion provided to humanity? It is literally the magic being you daydream about that will just poof make u free and fulfilled.

But thats not it works. Blinds you from reality. From actually dealing with things. I think Laios finally realized this.

Laios decided to literally eat his escapism away. Let go.

But to have gotten to that point he still first had given in. And Falin's fate is more uncertain.

Thank god for everyone like "Fuck you! We still care about you!" when they found him... Dude's prob feeling immense guilt.

why tomura reads like a sexual abuse survivor

ive noticed that a lot of survivors - including me - easily read tomura as a csa survivor. ive decided to try to put these impressions into words, mostly for myself, but also for anyone curious as to why he’s so frequently read this way, or why i personally write him as such. i will mostly be elaborating on the reoccurring sexual assault imagery and csa survivor traits tomura exhibits.

triggering themes ahead, including discussed child sexual abuse, incest (sibling and pseudo), trauma and its effects, and sexual assault imagery (from the bnha manga itself). also spoilers for the most recent manga arc.

(disclaimer: i realize symptoms of trauma are pretty much common all across the board, and depression also comes with a lot of these behaviors - but there are some that crop up more commonly in cases of sexual abuse (especially from a young age) than in others. csa survivors also frequently end up with depression, too, so that doesn't necessarily take away from it.)

i’ll start with the cover above. the hands touching him here are much more expressive than the ones he usually wears. it's also framed in a way where you can't see the ends/cap things very well, and they don't appear so symmetrical, making them feel much more like real, living hands grabbing him.

there's also the fact that his face is exposed, which is something we had rarely seen him do willingly at this point in the manga, and even when he had he was still covered up with a hoodie or completely alone. the way he's covering half his face gives off the impression that he's not okay with the way he's exposed.

all of that, plus the obvious distress tomura is in, gives this very glaring assault vibes.

also, the hands on his head are clearly someone's actual, living hands as well. my guess is afo, especially since they seem to be petting him, which is reoccurring imagery between tomura and afo.

tomura's total lack of privacy

there's a clear lack of boundaries between tomura and the adults in his life. most of the spaces that seem to belong to tomura (the bar - he feels safe enough there to take Father off, and his room) are accompanied by cameras and audio transmissions from afo. he has no privacy, and doesn't even seem bothered by this fact.

he also doesn't seem to set boundaries with other people in general. toga can hold a knife to his neck, spinner can grab him and yell in his face, the doctor can shout over his earpiece, dabi (or anyone, really) can say whatever rude or callous things he wants to him… really the only time i can think of that even comes close was when mr. compress made a joke about working with overhaul and tomura said "hey, not funny."

he seems to kinda just let whatever happen to him. earlier in the series, tomura seemed to rely on kurogiri to notice when he needed space and step in for him rather than ask for it himself. that's a pretty telltale sign of someone who's had their needs and boundaries violated (or even punished) for a long time.

Tomuras over-attachment to afo and his praise/affection

obviously afo groomed tomura whether it involved sexual abuse or not, but it is something that could have easily lended itself to that as well. early in the series, tomura clearly highly valued afos opinion of him, and seemed to strive to please and repay him for his kindness. these are feelings afo incited in him on purpose and did, canonically, take advantage of to turn tomura into a villain and pawn - who's to say he didn't use it for other purposes, too?

it's also the kind of thing survivors tend to latch onto to cope with their abuse. it can be easier to think of the event as being affection, returning a favor, and/or special treatment, than to think of it as abuse. tomura looked up to afo so much that it's possible he could have considered (or been convinced) that it was special that someone as great as afo wanted to do something so intimate with him.

also, if this is really tomura realizing his sensei isn't as special and powerful as he'd been led to believe, then his reaction being to cover up while looking angry might, well… be a reaction to feeling used.

Tomura & older men

there's not a lot of people besides afo that tomura seems very quickly, openly… invested in. there are two major ones i can think of, and they are both 1. older men, and 2. mentor figures (even if not to tomura.)

the most obvious of the two is aizawa, who tomura has seemed pretty fond of since his first appearance and, even in the most recent chapters, can't seem to help but think about how cool aizawa is. aizawa isn't a mentor to tomura, obviously, but he is a teacher and tomura knows this. (and seems impressed by the way he tries to protect the students in his care--something afo very specifically does not do for tomura.)

the second, and perhaps less obvious to most, is Stain. i wrote up a whole post trying (trying.) to explain the way tomura seemed interested in him, and you can see a bit more about that and how tomura was hoping he'd be a mentor to him here.

in other words, tomura has shown reoccurring interest in older men, who are mentors, that he does not show for anyone else.

early sexual abuse can influence a person's attractions. survivors tend to be drawn to what is familiar, even if it hurt, and so it's pretty common for them to be attracted to and/or desire a relationship with those who resemble their abuser(s).

and afo is an older man who is a mentor to tomura (and others.)

immaturity (& age regression)

tomura, in early canon, is often described by characters in-universe as being childish, especially in regards to how he processes his emotions. (i don't really like to conflate these things with "age" or "being childish" - but the way the manga itself presents these qualities is clearly intended to give tomura a immature/childish vibe.)

tomura's emotional processing, simple motivations, fixation with video games, toys littering his room, and need for close caregiving (kurogiri) all give off the impression that he's had trouble developing the way he "”should”" have--kind of like he didn't really move on at all.

this sort of stunted development tends to occur in people with childhood trauma, especially csa survivors. ptsd at its core is the brain getting "stuck" in the moment of trauma, so if the trauma occurred as a child, then one's development is somewhat halted there, especially in areas of emotional processing, because the brain and body have to dedicate so much energy to just trying to cope and survive. it's pretty common for csa survivors to have trouble coping with and controlling their emotions.

relatedly: i have no real way to confirm this right now, but i’ve heard that during the mla arc, while tomura was kind of going in and out of flashbacks, he started switching to using “boku” - a self pronoun for young boys - as opposed to his usual “ore”). ive since had to wonder if this is a reoccurring state for tomura - it might partly explain why he keeps his toys around despite never showing interest in them on-screen, and has such close supervision from kurogiri.

again, age regression can go for any kind of childhood trauma, but seems very common in child sexual abuse survivors in particular.

Lack of hygiene (esp oral)

look at how tomura's teeth are drawn compared to even another villains. dabis teeth are straight and clean, whereas tomura's have holes and chips, and tend to be drawn uneven with wobbly lines, like they're covered in plaque.

not caring for one's hygiene is common for people with depression too - but failure to care for teeth also frequently crops up in survivors of sexual abuse, due to an aversion to things touching or being inside their mouth, because it can remind them of the abuse.

in a similar vein, tomura's hair looks unwashed and greasy to me, especially when it gets long. it sort of gathers in clumps and appears heavy. survivors may avoid taking showers because they aren't comfortable removing their clothes for long periods of time, or because the abuse occurred in proximity to bathing. (which is a convenient time for parental figures to groom and abuse their children, since it already involves them being naked and the parent touching them closely.)

in general, there just seems to be something off about tomura's relationship with his body. maybe it's the way he barely bats an eye at major injuries, doesn't care for his hygiene, self-injures, and didn't mind undergoing a surgery that altered its shape and function pretty heavily--but i get the impression that tomura sees his body as just a tool more than anything.

which, if someone grew up having their body regarded as nothing but a means of pleasure, kind of makes sense.

his clothing

im not sure if this has the same “connotations” (for lack of a better word) for flat chested people, but tomura always wearing a lowcut shirt that shows off a fair amount of his chest, but covering the rest of himself head to toe--including his face--feels significant to me. as well as the way he covers up even more (his hoodie) when he’s stressed. the hands, too--being covered up seems to be calming for him.

the placement of the hands afo gave him

you can't tell me little tenko placed these hands where they are by himself. the ones on his chest aren’t even from his family or meant to resemble them - they’re additional hands afo gave him to wear. pretty weird place for “afo”’s hands to go...

I feel like theres a little bit something to tomura frequently having his clothes ripped off during fights

not that it's particularly uncommon for bnha characters to get their clothes a bit shredded during fights, but i can't help but feel like there's something to tomura getting torn down to nothing but his pants twice, with both battles heavily involving tomura's traumas, including the ones related to afo. the vs mla arc with how tomura met afo and how he turned him into what he is today, then the war arc where the methods afo used to control and abuse tomura (the hands) are brought back again--and afo repeatedly takes tomura's bodily autonomy away from him.

AFO's predatory behaviors

tomuras own behavior aside, All For One himself has some behaviors and imagery that gives off very predatory vibes. i’ll start with Ragdoll…

most people theorize that she was going to be turned into a nomu, but there are two important things here. ragdoll was found 1. alive, and 2. naked. all nomu are made from corpses - if afo had time to take her quirk and undress her, he certainly had time to kill her, especially since three days had passed since she was kidnapped. (and, what benefit would there be to making a nomu out of a quirkless hero?)

her dazed state is also curious - we've never been told taking or giving quirks has a side effect like this, and i would think itd at least wear off after three days…

there's also not actually a lot to suggest she was submerged in one of the tanks (that i know of); in the full body image, she doesn't seem to be soaking wet or anything. there's no water dripping off her. there's just a bit of liquid on her face and neck, which could merely be sweat, or… other fluids.

this next part is more debatable due to it being more dubiously canon (although My Hero: One’s Justice has been known to basically spoil villain related lore before it appears in the manga) - but he has some dialogue that makes him sound... pretty fuckin enthusiastic about sexual violence.

and time and time again, afo has been... very creepy and obsessive about his brother. who happens to look an awful lot like tomura, and is vaguely connected to nana as a user of OFA, and we know how far afo would go to spite both of them.

The "wow this is pretty much confirmed now" page

i always thought i was just projecting when i read tomura as a csa survivor - until i saw this page, which was so viscerally uncomfortable that it made me nauseous. it definitely made me decide i wasn't just reading into things that weren't there. that's not exactly to say this panel 100% confirmed it (though it certainly did in my mind, personally) -- but the imagery here can't not be deliberate.

tomura is literally shirtless and bent over before afo, and sure, afos not completely standing behind him, but that's partially because his lower half is inside of tomura. and from our previous example of afo taking over tomura's body…

i wish i could find the translation i first saw - this is the viz translation, which is notoriously horrible - but the one i read felt much more along the lines of "i saved you, so i get to do what i want with your body."

that is a line of logic that could have EASILY applied to their earlier relationship. the way afo saved tenko was very much on the forefront of tomura's mind early in the series, possibly either an idea he clung onto to justify the abuse he experienced from afo, or something afo personally reminded him of frequently.

also… part of afos body is definitely wrapped around tomura's upper thigh, and in certain panels seems to be emanating from between his legs.

speaking of, tomura's stance is also notable to me. compared to the panel where tomura first realized afo was taking control of him, where his knees are pretty straight on or outwards in a powerful balanced brace, in these panels his knees seem to be bending in towards his body, like he wants to squeeze his legs shut. huh.

i touched on this before, but it's interesting to me that what finally let afo fully take control of tomura's body, was having a hand (one afo very specifically used to control and abuse tomura into doing what he wanted) placed upon his body without permission.

so, all in all, afo is "inside" tomura's body, using it for his own means, against tomura's wishes.

what else does that sound like? no wonder deku feels like tomura needs help, despite everything...

again, this isn't to say that csa is definitely the cause of these things, just that tomura does have an abundance of behaviors and imagery that could easily be read that way.

I looooove your zukka rec lists! I recently became Avatar-obsessed, never got a chance to watch it as a kid and only just got through it all! I was wondering if you'd consider doing a specifically angst rec list? I love fluffy zukka everything, but sometimes you just gotta have your heart ripped out of your chest and put back in after being thoroughly blended.

7 Anti LO Asks

1. Do you know what really gets my blood boiling about this comic? Persephone and Demeter's relationship.

In the myths, Demeter and Persephone loved each other more than anything. Their reunion is so important - it marked the coming of spring and growth. A whole cult was dedicated to this for crying out loud. Yes, the myths were far from perfect, but the Persephone and Demeter myth showed the strength of a loving mother-daughter relationship with Demeter searching endlessly to find her child that was ripped away and had her innocence forcibly taken.

Now, RS is not the only author to make Demeter this over-bearing mother type in order to put more positivity onto the Hades-Persephone relationship. However, RS takes this trend to a whole new level - to the point where I would even consider it misogyny.

How is it, she takes this beautiful mother-daughter relationship and makes it out to be an abusive and controlling one, and then takes the Hades-Persephone relationship from a forceful one to a loving, perfect relationship with no problems? How is it ok to ruin one relationship to elevate another?

I understand that many versions of the myth try to downplay Hades' actions, and even make it so Persephone actually falls in love with him and there is no rape. But it doesn't change that this relationship was problematic, and meant to represent the loss of innocence.

Then fans have the gall to claim this comic is feminist and then claim on top of that that Demeter and Persephone's relationship was the same in the myth? These fans clearly don't know the myths, and neither does RS.

Making Hades a good person is fine. Changing it up a bit to make Persephone's loss of innocence something else is also fine. But ruining Demeter and Persephone's relationship? Especially when Persephone has to spend half the year with her? So horrible.

2. im sorry, but rachel cant introduce KRONOS coming back and then dropping it for several episodes to focus on a stake-less trail and persephone not knowing what lingerie to seduce hades in. like thats too much of an earth shaking development and huge stake plot point to just ignore for months to focus instead on something as minor as hxp's relationship, which only points out a huge flaw: why is hxp's relationship so minor in this? isnt the whole point supposed to be about them?

3. I think LO completely dropped the ball over Hades’ characterization.

From the first ep I thought ok, this is good, we have some bones to see he’s not that lucky in love and is just tired and lonely, and while ignoring the creepy actions towards Persephone, I thought ok, Artemis hates him, Hestia hates, even Ares hates him, maybe once Persephone finally sees the underworld and probably gets to know him it’ll be a clever twist and they’ll be proven wrong. The underworld will turn out to be fair and just, the citizens will love Hades, he’ll be revealed to be a good leader and king and not like his brothers, it’ll be like everyone saying Hades of myth isn’t actually that bad, and it’ll help reinforce why this sweet and bubbly Persephone wants him, she sees the real him, not the mean rumors and assumptions, this is perfect.

And then it just didn’t happen. The exact opposite happened, actually.

We’re shown the LO underworld is cruel and unjust, where the poor dead are forced into slavery and Hades created a harsh class divide with him and him only on top, the citizens hate him, the underworld gods don’t trust him and openly seem ok if he’s taken out of power, he’s not a good leader and king and doesn’t even want the job yet keeps it for his own ego and grip of power m, and on top of it all he is just like his brothers, if not worse. He loves to get violent over any little slight against him, he hoards wealth and resources to enrich himself while his citizens starve and struggle to survive, he’s corrupt, he controls all the media and laws to bend to his will, sleeps with his brothers wife for centuries behind his back while claiming to be holier than thou, he has sex with his secretaries who are made dependent on him for any way to survive, and now he lusts after his barely legal intern who is also now dependent on him for her way to survive, and that’s only what I remember off the top of my head.

LO perfectly set up to prove Hades isn’t the devil or the false pop culture assumption that he’s evil and to show some actual facts from myth, and yet Rachel only ended up reinforcing exactly that and even making him even worse with her made up ideas, all while thinking having Persephone ignore or excuse it somehow makes it not bad or even a good thing. It’s honestly kind of impressive just how bad of writing that actually is.

4. Chapter 172 is not that interesting. It’s setup had me excited to see Hephaestus and Hera and learning more about echo, but it’s cut so short. Because again the story can’t leave HXP out for 2 seconds.

I can also see why Zeus is gonna go insane.

5. i agree w/ other anon. LO should have pulled a PJO or a BoZ and just made up OCs and have them interact with the gods than whatever Rachel thinks shes doing, which is lying she's being accurate and faithful while completely changing all of it, removing what is needed, and adding what isnt so that it lines up with no actual myth besides like, various 50 shades fanfic she read in 2015 and some popular tumblr text posts.

6 . the animation studio behind blood of zeus literally can only draw one face for the men and one face for the women and they were still able to make the gods all look distinct and hot while LO can't even bother to use more than 6 colors and can only have the women look as tiny as possible with the biggest boobs while the men are all just lego men.

7. ////FP SPOILERS////

Okay so like I stopped reading LO way back before season 1 ended, and a majority of my knowledge of the series comes from what I read here on your blog which is enough for me lol and I decided to read the latest 5 chapters just to see what's up (on zahard. I refuse to give the actual series any views)

And I just. Could not take the whole scene with Daphne running from Apollo seriously? The anatomy and art inconsistency was so distracting that i genuinely could not find it serious. Even when Thanatos discovers her hibernated body I couldn't take it seriously because of how she looked?

And when Hades had that call (??? Was it a call? Or his inner dialogue? I couldn't really tell ngl) with Zeus and said he's causing Persephone unnecessary distress, and that she didn't pose any threat. B!tch??? She killed a ton of mortals??? She has no control over her powers???? She's literally a fugitive for the aforementioned things??? She apparently woke Kronos up? (Idk if anyone knows about that, again my knowledge only spans to whatever I read here) Hello????

And I have a lot to say about the chapters starting the trial but I'll only mention one thing; Hades saying "I don't think blindly supporting my little brother would be doing him any favours (as a ruler)" had me cackling. This is coming from a guy blindly supporting a girl he's literally only known for a few weeks, who's like what, only recently turned 20? Sit tf down Hades you're not cool, you creepy ass overgrown smurf.

Overall I still hate this series lmao. Regarding art though I feel like I wouldn't be so miffed about the anatomy much if the character designs were consistent and the story was compelling. They literally change hairstyles and body types frame by frame, and it's distracting.

The timeline from what I read here is laughable. 4 years in publication with almost 200 chapters and you're telling me only like a month has passed canonically. That's wild and such poor writing.

And as someone who literally will sympathise with any lead character pretty quickly, the story makes me hate them. It makes me want to root against them. I also hate the fact this trash is somehow top ranked on webtoons when so many other stories are far better then it.

Anyway, many thanks to this blog for existing and allowing me to dump so much text here to vent out my hate for this series lmao. You the mvp fam, hope you're having a good day 🥂🥂🥂

Now im not gonna say 'dont feel bad pls' bc I know that's not really useful but what I do think is useful is just discussing why that anon and many others feel the need to respond that way. As someone who follows a lot of writing blogs myself and have done for a long time, i've seen my handful of favourite writers come and go for different reasons, lose motivation for a while, gain motivation for a while, go from multi to single fandom, or single fandom to multi. Often times as a reader it can be upsetting when things change but it's also important as a reader to understand that some things aren't in anyone's control, I can't control what my favourite writers become a fan of or lose interest of, I can't control things in their personal lives that may motivate or demotivate them to write, but what I can do is support them as long as they're active, and if they move on to do things i'm no longer interested in or i'm the one that changed interests, rather than being upset that they're evolving to do other things or that they're not evolving with me, I think it's important that I still feel thankful for the works that I enjoyed while we were still on the same page and this is how I personally deal with those negative feelings. I think the anons that lash out at you probably just dont know what to do with themselves, maybe they got attached to your works while you were still only a jjba blog and now that you're evolving they're upset, while I understand how they feel, they're going the completely wrong way about it. I've learned to take these things and turn them into something positive for myself or at least something bittersweet that I can move on from but the anons that lash out at you for whatever reason probably haven't learned this yet. Maybe it's because i've moved on and changed interests a lot myself that I know how these things go for both writers and readers but those anons maybe haven't experienced this as much so they dont know what to do with themselves other than complain that you've changed and throw insults at you in an attempt to get you to revert back. None of this is because of the quality of your writing like they want you to believe, it's literally just because you've evolved and while some of your old followers might not like the new content for no reason other than it not being their cup of tea, it's definitely not regressed at all. You are pumping out a lot of content right now but every single thing i've read has just been better than the last. Things that really stand out to me is how well you get characterisation down to a T and all of your dialogue is just on point and from the pov of a reader I think those things seem the hardest to get right so I am such a huge fan of your stuff at the moment and I can tell you're really putting so much thought and care into each and every fic no matter how fast you're producing it, I think the fact that you're also proud of what you're writing at the moment really shines through as well and I just adore the passion that radiates from every completed request as well as in the responses for the subsequent thirsts resulting from these works that appear in your ask box later (I know i've sent quite a few by now~)

Just to be clear i'm not defending those anons in any way, while I can understand what they might be feeling/why they're reacting in the way they are I still believe it's just so immature to be hateful online point blank. Even during a time where I still got upset with writers if they started doing something else I still never targeted that negativity directly to the writer and sending rude or hateful comments whether on anon or not never something i'd stooped low enough to do even when I still had an immature way of thinking, however, I hope that it might make it a little easier to brush them off if we try and understand what they're really upset about, and that they're just putting the blame for their negative feelings onto the wrong thing rather than coming to terms with change themselves.

hello anon!! i appreciate the long message. i do feel bad for people who have no interest in what i’m currently producing and i get that they feel upset about it; i’ve watched a lot of fellow jojo writers move on completely or just stop posting, honestly. this kind of thing is why i was so intense about asking people if it would be better if i made a separate blog but the resounding answer seemed to be ‘i’m just vibing with whatever happens and i’ll block tags as needed’.

i often return to works by my favourite reader-insert writers who no longer write for the fandoms i like (and i read stuff bc it sounds interesting or i trust the person who writes it), but change can be difficult and i guess at this point i’ve - whether u like me or not lmao - been a fixture in jojo reader-insert tumblr for a While so it’s probably kind of jarring.

OH MY GOD HIIIIIII!!!! I was thinking about you the other day because I was like: ah they're meant to be graduating in May, but is it weird if I just make a post being like: hey unicorn anon, I hope you're okay and vibing??

Because I realised that you'd actually finished the series and I was like... oh no I hope they don't vanish forever, but it's fine if they do... but still...

Congratulations on graduation!! How was it?? What was it like?? Did you get to do the whole moving the tassel thing?? What was your degree in?? What are you thinking of doing now?? Did you have fun??

AND KID!!! I've missed being called that!! A few people have called me it, but I turned seventeen a few weeks ago and since then, it's just been: well, you're almost an adult and I’m like: no. Stop. Right now.

I have been... see on the one hand I’m like: YEAH! I’ve been okay!! I’ve been handling school (I got a B in one of my chemistry tests!!!), I got a leadership role, I’m mentoring in Maths, I finished my virtual work experience and have things for uni and I know what I’m doing.... on the other I’m like: FUCK FUCK FUCK but I don’t even know what the problem is...

Time just feels like it’s going too quickly. But also too slowly?? And mocks are coming up, so I’m kinda stressed but one thing I’ve really been working on is just accepting when things don’t go as well. Like... that’s okay, you know? And I also know that even if nobody else thinks I tried, I’ll KNOW that I did. and the people on the Internet will support me.

But I also... yeah. It’s been a weird time. Writing sad stuff has definitely helped. In fact, the other day, I reread my first fic (heavy is the head that wears the crown) and compared it to my most recent one (like blood underneath your fingernails) and I was like: I’ve really improved!! So yeah! I have been all over the place, but when I think back to this time last year, I’m definitely happier :))

And more open about the fact that Mortch is a thing that I ship :)

Okay onto the spoilery thing!!

So remember how you were the Strauss anon and also the Gideon anon before you became the unicorn anon?? Well...

I’ve not even thought about the Gideon AU, but an argument between Rossi and Hotch has been living rent-free in my head. Will it ever get written? Who knows- the final chapter of aaron is still on hold. However... I think it’ll be call.

ANYWAYS!!

I started a fic called so why can’t you see (you belong with... each other?) and the basic premise is: Jemily and Moreid are a thing (Penelope has a girlfriend) so they’re trying to set up Hotch and Rossi because they’re like: AHA!

However, it’s five times members of the BAU fail, and the one time someone succeeded.

I took your idea about Strauss being the one to get them together and kinda turned it into a whole thing- so her chapter is essentially outlined because it’s going to be about how her and Rossi had a Thing in the 90s when Hotch joined and she assumes they’re together and then they’re not so it spirals...

I was going to say: the unicorn anon inspired this entire thing (which is actually a friends birthday present, it was just taking so long that I turned it into a multi-chapter that is randomly updated) but then I was like: is that weird?? So I didn’t. But you were the inspiration!!

Hawks -why didn’t he join the League?

Regardless of what you think about Hawks, you have to admit -he got real popular real fast.

Maybe it was the timing; when he was introduced there hadn’t been many new Hero characters for a while. Maybe it was the fact that he’s an attractive younger man, and not only conventionally attractive, but damn do anime fans love their winged humans; not to mention that BnHA is particularly lacking in the “Adult Pretty Boy” category. It could even just be down to his personality; for a bit there he was safely morally grey with a playful, nice demeanor, along with hints of a darker backstory. That probably endeared him to a lot of people very quickly.

And then the chapter where he takes out Best Jeanist happened.

(Manga only btw so spoilers ahead)

I’ve recently got to thinking that the main reason Hawks’ popularity bloomed so fast was because, for at least a little while, there was a fair possibility that he might have decided to join the League of Villains.

As far as I’m aware there hasn’t yet been a case in BnHA of a Hero becoming a Villain, or at least not in any manner that’s had big focus in the story. I’m not counting Kurogiri/Shirakumo because not only was the majority of his backstory in Vigilantes, but what I’m thinking of is a Hero becoming a Villain of their own volition. A conscious choice. It’s an unexplored dynamic in this manga with very interesting implications because of the way the general population views the Hero/Villain dynamic but also because of the problems inherent to Hero Society.

For a long time the closest we had to this was Hawks.

Sure, there’s an implied spy at UA working for the League, but nothing concrete has been shown here. Similarly, Endeavour acts like a Villain in his past with his family, but functionally he is a Hero and Horikoshi made an effort to give him a halfway decent character arc that took him away from that. So Hawks was always the closest.

A spy infiltrating the enemy at the behest of the vague governmental organization -that’s a classic position for someone to turn to the dark side. His backstory was fairly ambiguous. He did some shitty things to try and prove himself to the League -not only was he prepared to lead a bunch of lesser Heroes into a Noumu test (although it ended up being Endeavour), but as Dabi pointed out, regardless of whether it actually was Best Jeanist in that bag, Hawks still killed someone. Or desecrated a dead body at the very least.

Being generous, up until 263, there was still a chance that Hawks would change sides (personally I actually stopped thinking this upon reading 245 when he passed the message to Endeavour). Once 264 dropped, however every chapter featuring him since then have squarely placed him on the Hero side. A definite, unambiguous enemy to the League of Villains. Even when, as Twice said, Hawks was not acting very Heroic.

It’s interesting to look at how, after 263, many of Hawks actions are unheroic and yet it is extremely clear he is placing himself with the Heroes. It illustrates what Horikoshi tries to convey with the League -that they are Villains for a reason, they follow Shigaraki for a reason, and they hate Hero Society for what it has done to them.

Hawks once had the potential to become a Villain, but in the end he never did. The entire time, regardless of if he was conflicted about it, he acted as a spy for the HPSC, always planning to betray the League and take both them and later the PLF down.

Hawks was morally grey because of this. He hid his true feelings and lied and did unheroic things while in his mind always saw himself as a Hero, sacrificing himself for the good of Hero Society -no, for the good of Japan. It’s an interesting character to explore, and had he actually gone and changed sides sincerely, that could have been a great direction to take him with a lot of far-reaching consequences. But that isn’t how the story is going.

To meta a bit, Hawks never thematically matched up with the other members of the League of Villains.

He’s conventionally attractive where nearly every member of the League has been belittled in some way for their appearance (creepy, ugly, mutant, etc). His Quirk itself “Fierce Wings”, is listed as a Mutant type, but functionally it more similar to an Emitter -canonically all it changes on his body is the wing bases on his back and the markings around his eyes. The ability he has is to “telepathically control and sense his surroundings through the feathers”, and I’m pretty sure he says it doesn’t boost his strength or eyesight or anything.

Compared to the League, he’s never been shown to face discrimination because of his Quirk (like Toga being degraded by her parents or Spinner being driven to become a shut-in).

Yes, he was raised to be a Hero from a young age. That is a form of abuse since the HPSC was basically raising a child soldier. But, in canon we have never seen child-Hawks be treated cruelly by his trainers or caretakers. At most it’s implied, but given the fact that Horikoshi isn’t exactly shy about showing that shit, I think that speaks pretty loudly for itself. Contrast Shigaraki and Toga’s childhoods which were just chock full of physical/emotional abuse, hell even contrast Shouto’s childhood with Endeavour if you want a Hero example.

As an adult Hero, Hawks is beloved by the populace in basically every instance shown, he’s literally the number 2 ranked Hero in all of Japan. The League of Villains steal food and squat in abandoned buildings and are hated by basically everyone in Hero Society, even other Villains.

With the exception of Mr. Compress (for lack of his backstory so who knows) all of the League members have been shown to be outcasts, social rejects, and/or victims of Hero Society. All of them cannot, or refuse to, fit into the narrow roles that Hero Society would have funnelled them into.

So I guess in conclusion, I started writing this wondering why Hawks never changed sides. But in re-reading the manga and looking it over, my conclusion is that Hawks was never going to join the League of Villains.
