"A Green Queen" AU
Chapter III
The sun began to peak its face through the green hills. The citizens of the Mushroom kingdom were setting up their shops and food carts as they greeted each other at the start of a new day.
The Princess was up early, she wanted to get a bit of peace before tending to the problems and concerns of her citizens.
Peach headed down the hall, hesitantly moving forward as she heard a loud clang come from behind a set of large doors. She slowly pushed it open, only to see a silhouette in the quiet, dark room. "Mario?", She whispered.
She flicked the lights on to see a bulletin board full of photos pinned with red lines. Horror struck here face, it soon turned into annoyance as she saw a swaying Mario. He was crouched on the floor mumbling to himself as his body rocked back and forth.
"He's really gone. I figured out Bowser's flight patterns and if I just work out a way to infiltrate his castle, maybe I can see him? I've even made a Koopa disguised!"
Peach plopped down next to him and lifted his chin. "You need to sleep. I get you're worried but-"
"You don't... We've been apart a few times, but a year is different. Even with school, we stuck together. To have the first time we've ever separated for a YEAR and with that tyrant?! I don't even know where to begin with what that stupid Koopa has planned."
Mario stood up and looked at the bulletin board. A sigh left his lips as he began to mumble to himself.
Peach got up and brushed herself off, "You think I don't, but I do... I know how it feels to not be around someone who you care deeply for, but I can reassure you, if your brother decided to go with Bowser of all creatures.. he's braver than you give him credit for.."
"I'm not saying-"
"Would you have gone if the proposal was for you?"
"No, but-"
"Would you have looked for a solution that didn't require three armies?"
Mario opened his mouth to speak then dejectedly looked down, thinking, as his stroked his stache. "Ok... You may have a point there."
"Mhm.", She smiled. "You've been up all night thinking on how to rescue your brother, you haven't even considered that if he needed it, he'll call."
The small plumber turned back to the board and sighed, "then we just sit and wait?.."
"We'll see him at the end of the month, that was the agreement after all. I also made sure he knew that if he wanted to come back at any time, he could.", She answered. "Now, let's start the day. You really need to shave that stubble."
"Yeah... Yeah, I honestly don't know how it grew overnight, truly..", he pondered.
The two made their way out of the room. Mario giving one more glance at the board before closing the door.
'I'm sorry, Princess. But I just need to check on him..'
He pulled out a small picture of a desert land with a sphinx looming in the side of the frame.
Luigi groaned, sweat dripping down his temple as he tossed a bit in bed. The sling restricted his movement, but he gasped awake once an alarm he'd set up from last night began to blare in his ears.
He looked around while taking deep breaths. He was aware he wasn't in his room, but still gazed at it in shock.
Once he calmed down, he slowly reached over with his left hand and stopped the clock. A yawn left his lungs as he recollected all of what happened last night. Looking down at his arm, he cursed under his breath and swiftly moved the covers off of himself.
A set of clothes were left on his nightstand, next to his clock, and he rolled his eyes to the obvious seal stitched onto the shirt.
'He doesn't even wear his own mark, why do I have to- No, calm down Luigi! Just one issue at a time here..'
He would have to deal with it later. Instead, he went over to an unpacked suitcase and began to get a simple green button up shirt, some jeans and his long striped socks. Before heading to his bathroom he grabbed a towel he forgot to grab and some shampoo he didn't put in the cabinet.
Trying to hold everything in one arm was only half the challenge, he now had to figure out how to shower and change his sling without injury.
Words Bowser said before started flooding into his head.
"And if you had just listened, you wouldn't be needing that sling!"
'Sure, blame ME for wanting some space!'
Luigi's frustration grew as he closed his bathroom door and turned on the shower head. Despite him coming into the castle in his Peach disguise, he hadn't seen any bathrooms his size before. He set up the bottles and toothbrush cup as orderly as he could while letting the water run to a temperature he felt wasn't going to burn his skin.
He took a deep breath and started to remove his shirt with his free hand. Lifting and turning to get every bit of his body out of the clothing someone had dressed him in. A shiver trailed as he realized he was undressed and dressed without permission.
'Not now, let's not think about that now!', he thought. His body began shaking a bit, but halted once he finally freed himself from the shirt.
Looking in the mirror, he smiled a bit. The scars near his ribs had faded a bit more and like clockwork, a bit of stubble was growing in.
Getting the rest of it off was simple enough, and as he finished undressing, he stepped into the shower.
The King was in his throne room delegating with a clawful of his captains. He was signing some documents for new dark land residents and grumbled at some of the testimonies. Kamek entered the room, rather cheerfully.
"The Prince and his siblings are eating his breakfast, your highness. They've decided they'd like to sleep at the castle once we arrive and are in quite the destructive spirit this morning.", He hummed.
"Good, we'll be there shortly. Make sure they don't ruin the dining room once we get there. I don't want to see apple pie and steak all over the castle walls again."
"Y-Yes, your highness.."
"Where is the Queen?"
Kamek gulped. He was hoping to avoid talking about Luigi for a few more minutes, but it seemed the King wasn't holding back.
"He's still in his chamber, your highness. Would you like him to stay there?"
"No, have him eat after the children finish. When he's done eating, bring him to the discussion room. Since he wants to be involved, so badly, might as well put some pressure up his stupid as-"
A clash erupted from the large doors swinging open. In bounded Bowser Jr and Ludwig, who panted a bit while trying to stop him.
"Papa!"
"Junior?! Ludwig? What a-are you-"
"Kamek said you got a queen!", He roared excitedly. "Does that mean that Princess said yes?! I knew it!"
His tail was wagging as Ludwig tried to hush him, "Hey! He said not to tell!", He whispered.
But the little prince wasn't listening and stumped Ludwig's muzzle causing him to grumble a bit. "It's true, right?!"
Bowser sighed and nervously gave a smile, "Well... It's a bit complicated, Junior.."
"What?"
"Well you see...", Bowser started. He gestured a bit to Kamek for assistance.
"Uhm, the Queen might not be... What you expect, your highness. We can talk about it once we reach the castle.", Kamek answered.
The small Koopa grunted and stomped, "No! I want to see my new momma!"
Bowser sighed and glared at Kamek, he slowly lifted himself from his throne and headed down the stairs.
Ludwig puffed his chest up a bit but Bowser brought the two closer as he leveled with the kids. "You'll meet the Queen after you and your siblings get ready to leave for your stay at the castle. And Junior, it isn't the Princess, but I promise to explain everything when we land. Ok?"
Junior huffed, resting over Bowser's arm, defeated. "Fine.."
"And Ludwig, make sure he doesn't burn anything..."
"Already on it!", He nodded holding up his staff.
"Good!"
Bowser smiled and for a moment, two purred as they leaned their foreheads against the King's, Junior still wearing a scowl on his face.
"I promise we'll discuss this later.", He smiled. "Now get going. That's an order.."
Ludwig huffed a bit as he gently pushed himself and Bowser Jr towards the door. The two waved goodbye and muffled chatter faded as they headed out.
The King's smile faded away as his head quickly turned towards Kamek, enraged.
"You told the kids?!"
"T-They wondered why you had arrived so late! Lemmy suggested a cuddle pile in your quarters, but-"
"And you couldn't have told them anything else?"
"Sorry, your highness.."
Bowser rumbled, but let his anger subside. "Fine. But get the Queen ready. He can take his breakfast with him to the discussion room. He wants to be involved so badly, it's time he proves it."
Kamek nodded and sped off down the hall on his broomstick to get Luigi.
The co-plumber had gotten ready and felt refreshed after the long shower. He was drying his hair with his free hand near the end of the bed, and was trying to figure out how he'd get his shirt on.
His stomach grumbled for his attention and as he rubbed it a knock came from the door.
"May I come in, your majesty?"
"N-Not ye-", he paused. "Actually yes! It's all right."
Kamek creaked the door open, " Ah! It's good to know you're already getting dressed."
"Yeah.. I need some help getting this shirt on though. Do you think you could.."
"Say no more, your highness!" Kamek proclaimed proudly. As he levitated the shirt, his eyebrow was raised in curiosity, "pardon my intrusion, but these aren't the clothes the King picked out for you. It's quite nice, but as his Queen you should.."
"...I'm not HIS. I'm just THE Queen and if that's the case, then I think wearing my shirt should be fine.", Luigi retorted. He made a failed attempt to fold his arms.
"Right....", the MagiKoopa noted. "If your majesty wishes, I guess I can't retort.". He finished as he warped the shirt onto Luigi's body and went to get the aid kit he'd left in the room.
"As for today, you'll be eating breakfast with the King while going over recent rebellions in a meeting with the captain and general of the Koopa army. The Captain is quite violent and his General is just as much. He's pretty loyal too."
Luigi gulped and stood up, "I feel underdressed now.."
"Which is why I set out clothes for you, your majesty.", Kamek scolded. "We have time to get you changed!"
He thought about it a bit, but shook his head. "I-I think I'll be fine. Just in case though..". He reached for his cape that was resting on the handle of his bed frame, "I'll put this on.."
Kamek gave him a good look at and sighed, 'Oh please, great stars let this not be a mistake!'
In front of a large golden crested door, Luigi stood quivering. He could barely keep his plate of pancakes, eggs, and bacon still that Kamek had to take it in fear of wasting a good meal.
"Anytime now, your majesty..."
"W-What if this is just like last night? I called him an ass! H-He was acting like one, but maybe he hasn't calmed down? I'm not equipped for this? Could we maybe reschedule?! O-Or maybe-"
Kamek looked over at him with an annoyed expression, "Your majesty, I understand your.. concerns, but you bravely spoke your peace yesterday despite the.. repercussions. Not even his bravest soldiers dare talk back to the King without execut-"
"Execution?! I CURSED AT HIM! I COULD BE-".
Luigi was about to pass out.
"No, no! Nothing of the sort. You forget that what you have is something no soldier can compare with."
"Seeing how fast I can get out of here...?"
".....No, you're The Queen, your majesty..."
He already knew this fact, but still could believe it'd be any use to a tyrant. Many queens from his world were executed, whether it was their fault or not. The Kings always held the power and he refused to end up with his head on a pike.
Kamek opened the doors, not before handing Luigi back his plate. Once opened, a surge of light came through causing Luigi's eyes to wince from the exposure. His vision cleared and he gazed at the round table, the same Koopa emblem preserved in the marble, and sharp blacked stone claws digging into its surface. At the head sat the King with two Koopas on each side of him, their attention placed on the duo that were standing there.
Bowser looked unimpressed, his eyelids lowered as he gave Luigi an examination and grunted seeing the casual wear.
"Kind of you to finally join us, your highness." Said the one eyed Koopa.
Luigi nodded in response as he made his way over to a small chair next to Bowser. His footsteps and squeaky heels echoed with each step.
Bowser glanced down at him and took a breath before continuing to speak, "So you say there has been an outbreak in the city?"
"Yes your greatness, several of my soldiers have reported on the citizens disdain for the announcement of the new Queen. They're worried that the brother of Mario will doom your kingdom.", he explained.
"A few have even begun calling you a failed King on account that word got out about the wedding incident... We've captured several of the protestors, but they've begun organizing crimes and rallies, your grace.", The General ranted his fist slamming the table.
Kamek had taken his side by the King while Luigi was eating while his arm was shaking. He felt responsible for all of it and knew how hard change was. A pit sank in his stomach knowing how those expressing their concerns would be executed or tortured and he tried his hardest not to imagine or verbalize their screams of pain in his head.
The King could sense his discomfort, "Hmm... Well, with the damages to several properties, the terrorizing of my citizens, and conspiring against the crown... It would be suitable to punish those who don't agree with my decision. Wouldn't you say so, Luigi?"
Luigi gulped, he was both shocked and infuriated by his response. He knew Bowser was pushing another button in him and was starting to crack. A small smile started to form on his face, "No."
"No?"
"No", he repeated. "I don't think they should be punished for voicing their concerns. They have no idea who I am."
Bowser raised an eyebrow and pressed on, "Wouldn't that make you furious? It would be better to squash any doubt in your leadership."
"Of course that works for someone like you.."
"And what's THAT supposed to mean?!",Bowser snarled.
Luigi smirked, enjoying the upper hand. "A brute will act brutish, you haven't even considered giving your citizens closure on me being a new leader to them."
"I- uhm-", his jaw opened. The Captain looked a bit uneasy.
"I'm not finished.", He noted. "You only prove them right by imprisoning those telling you of how stupid of a choice it was to make your ENEMY an equal. But what do I know, I'm just your prisoner."
Luigi closed his eyes and did a one-sided shrug before lifting the fork to his mouth. The room stayed stunned as Bowser tried to find the words to respond. His Captain and General started to rethink their strategy before Bowser spoke.
".... Y-You.. Ugh!"
"Should we... Torture them.. or-"
Bowser sighed, he could feel a headache growing as he tried to think this over. He hadn't thought further on the situation and wanted to simply stop it before anything got out of hand, but realized only now that his decision was the cause of all of this.
"No! Not yet at least, give me a day to think about this. We will relocate the prisoners to the castle cells once we reach there. I'll make my decision once my meetings in Sarasaland are over. Get the chains ready for their departure and station your guards at each cell. Two guards to a prisoner."
"Yes, your highness!", The two nervously stated.
"Leave us be... You too, Kamek.."
"O-Of course.", He answered. The MagiKoopa gave Luigi a pat on the shoulder before heading out with the others.
"Are you trying to make a fool out of me?"
Luigi only gulped at the worried expression on his face and didn't dare look up from his plate. His chewing slowed as he tried to retain his confidence.
The doors slowly clasped closed.
Bowser slowly turned to the man, he had a claw on the table and lowered his head, almost two inches away from Luigi's ear.
His heated breath could be felt trickling the Queen's neck, "No, you do that enough for yourself.. Both last night and just now."
Bowser snarled as his claws scrapped the resin surface, long marks being made on the table. "It was you and your brother's plan that ruined my rep!"
"Someone with BRAINS would've seen that me in a dress wasn't your damned bride! For fuck's sake, I wore a MASK!", Luigi retorted. He stood up as he spoke, which caused the Koopa to slowly move his head back once he did. "Maybe get those eyes checked."
Bowser grumbled, "Oh yeah!? Well- fuck you!-"
'I was excited to finally be happy for once!'
"-You and your brother always pull some FUCKING trick to get YOUR way. You're both just as inconsiderate as I am!"
Luigi's mouth gaped open and he poked at the King's snout, "My brother is nothing like you! He is the most considerate and understanding guy I know!-"
'If I were as half the man as he is...'
"-You don't even!" Luigi paused. "You know what, no. I'm not going to go back and forth with you. What do you want?"
Bowser blinked. He was so ready to fire back at him, he'd forgotten what started the argument. Why was he fighting with someone beneath his authority.
"I...". His head lowered in defeat. He sighed and sat up again. "I.. wanted to know if you'd really want to give cLosURre to my kingdom. I, hadn't thought about...ugh."
Luigi looked at him confused by his confession, "You didn't think anyone would have a problem with it?"
"That's not it. I just, didn't... Actually that's exactly it..."
He rolled his eyes at the large Koopa as he ate more of the bacon. "I'd like to... It's only fair, since I'm their Queen now."
"Right..".
The two sat in the realization for a moment. The quiet deafened the room as the clinking from the fork and plate kept the silence from setting in.
"This is the first time you've had a civil conversation with me.", He noted.
"Don't get used to it, this was only the start of your duties."
"Sure", he chewed. "As if you'll let me do anything..."
"I gave you the opportunity to make a decision and all you did was question my choices! How can I let you do anything??"
"You ASKED for my opinion, not a decision. You had already thought of one, I merely gave my input on it.", He scoffed finishing up his eggs.
Bowser mumbled and mimicked him, but for some reason his tail was swaying. "That's enough out of you."
Standing up, he took Luigi's plate, "Get back to your chambers."
"I can handle the plate-"
"I heard you shuffling with it in your puny hand from outside. You could barely hold Lemmy with it."
'Lemmy?..'
"And whose fault is that?!"
"Will you let it go already!! WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?! IT'LL FUCKING HEAL!"
Luigi flinched and took a deep breath, "Say your sorry and mean it."
"Mean it?", the Koopa snorted.
"Yes, say you're sorry for hurting me!"
"You expect me to surrender to-"
"Nevermind... I just want to lay down."
"This isn't on the level of some battle! JUST-", Luigi sat down, exhausted from screaming. His free hand covering his eyes and he sighed. It felt like arguing with his niece all over again and he didn't want to over exert himself.
Bowser gaped his mouth to say something else, but clenched it and nodded. "The soldiers will take you back."
"Yeah, yeah."
Through the corridor, Luigi was followed quite closely by two guards, stopping here and there to check out portraits hung on the walls. As he stepped into his room and shut the door, he plopped on his uninjured side and winced at the pain from the sudden jolt.
'All I wanted was..'
He didn't dare finish that thought, he knew what he wanted, but shouldn't have expected it from a dragon wannabe. He flopped onto his back, so he could brace himself upwards and started to the window. Looking out, he could see a few huts on some wetlands and noticed the drastic transition from soil to soot.
Bowser placed the plate in the sink and started to wash it. The Koopa beside him glanced up at him nervously, already working on a heavy load of dishes.
He didn't say anything, but he could tell his presence made them nervous, "You."
"M-Me, your highness?"
"No, the ceiling."
"Oh! Ok."
Bowser groaned, "Of course I meant you!"
"Sorry, your highness!", They squeaked.
"Ugh... Look, did you treat the Queen last night?"
The Koopa perked up, "Yes! H-He was a bit nervous about drinking the soup, but I-"
"I didn't ask for all of the details."
"Sorry.."
"Good. Now, did he.. seem like a fit ruler to you?"
The dish-washer slowly lowered their sponge and plate, thinking. "He.. didn't NOT seem like one."
"Hm... And did he ever yell any orders? Demand anything? What do you think of him as a Queen?"
The Koopa was stunned, eyes widened and was slowly inched away from the King in fear of the wrong answer.
"Well?", Bowser sneered.
"U-Um... He didn't yell, I think his orders were in reason... He asked me to taste the soup for poison. I'm not sure if h-he'll be a good Queen since I don't know what he's done for the kingdom yet..B-But as long as he keeps your kingdom strong. It should be fine?"
Bowser put the plate down and grabbed the Koopa with his claw. They yelled and quivered as he raised them up to his eye level.
"Are you saying he'd take my place?!"
"N-No! Not at all your highness! I-Im just saying you could use him to your advantage! He'll know.. um. Oh! About plans of attack against your kingdom o-or possibly the location of another superstar?!", They squeaked as their head was slowly retracting.
Bowser thought about it and grinned, he dropped the help and stomped off.
'And with him visiting home every month.. I could use the plans of the Mushroom kingdom to once and for all, crush Mario and take Peach! I'll have a proper wedding and Queen at my side!'
He chuckled at the thought and headed to his throne room.
The ship started to descend and near the entrance, the Koopa kids were excitedly ready to rampage through the castle and fill their rooms with treasures from their journey. Ludwig was carrying a few scrolls as Morton picked one up as it dropped.
"Why so many? Kamek said we didn't have to study spells this month.", He questioned. The kids turned their attention to him.
"I thought I'd help out more by digging into advanced magic! I want to take down that pesky plumber.", Ludwig answered. He placed what he had into his sack and took the one he dropped from his brother.
"I see no point in it, Bowser said we shouldn't interfere until-", Wendy noted.
"Until we're ready!", The group chimed in unison.
"It's never stopped us yet! Heck, even the Prince terrorized his first village before he was ready!", Roy added slickly.
"I could test out new explosives too!", Iggy popped in.
"Eh, I doubt-"
"KIDS!"
All of them looked at the stomping Koopa approaching, Kamek flying in tow. "You better not be planning on doing anything this time. Right?"
"Right..." Larry winked.
"I'm serious, the Queen is staying in the castle with you all, so I don't want trouble this time."
"What?! So Kamek wasn't lying?!"
"Ooh! Is she pretty?! Finally, another lady in the castle! Maybe we can-"
"Heeey! What's wrong with males?!"
Bowser sighed as the kids bickered, he roared for their attention and they flinched. "Look, you can ask him all the questions you want, I don't care. But no shenanigans, got it?"
"Yes sir!"
Morton stuck his tongue out at Wendy when Bowser mentioned a 'him' and she rolled her eyes.
"Shut it!", She whispered
Luigi made his way down the hall, panting a bit as he realized he wasn't able to pack everything so quickly. A few shirts began slipping out of the suitcases the guards were carrying. One had flown behind to pick up and catch what was slipping.
When he reached the group, he was out of breath.
"Took you long enough..", Bowser grumbled.
"If you didn't give me less than an HOUR to pack, I wouldn't need to rush!", He retorted between breaths.
The Koopalings and Junior just stared at Luigi, as he wiped the sweat from his forehead. They looked at Bowser and erupted in questions.
"Him!? Are you kidding?!"
"Why is he wearing a polo and jean- jeggings?! I'm appalled!"
"He doesn't even have a shell!"
"He's that weak?! Look at his arm!"
Roy just glared at him and shook his head. Luigi shivered and just lowered his head in embarrassment.
"You've gotta be kidding me! Even my smallest attack would knock him off his feet!"
"QUIET! One at a time!", Bowser growled. "I said I'll explain this in the castle, now hop to it!"
The kids grumbled and complained as they walked in with their luggage carried behind them. Luigi blinked and felt relieved that this gave him some time to collect his thoughts.
"So... Kids?", He started. "How many times have you-"
"what?...NO I DIDN'T-"
The Koopalings all went into their separate chambers and started unpacking. Junior on the other hand, had other ideas.
He scampered into his clown car, huffing a bit as he fell in and flew off into the halls. He wanted to understand why his dad chose someone like Luigi to be the Queen. He always boasted about the beautiful and infamous Princess, so what made the little plumber so special.
"I'm leaving."
"ok?", Luigi looked at him confused. He already knew Bowser was on his way, but wasn't sure why the scaly guy was watching him unpack.
"I'm REALLY leaving you here.", He repeated.
"Mhm."
"I don't know when I'll be back! It could take days!", Bowser exclaimed.
Luigi put his shirt in the dresser and turned his head to Bowser slowly, "And?.. You made it clear I'm staying.."
"Right..", the King grunted with a grin. "Good to know you're finally listening."
Luigi just stood there, he gestured to him his eyes squinting and the finger tips of his free hand touching. His mouth gaped as he was unable to understand the beast's persistence.
Junior flew by but backed up once he heard murmurs coming from down the hall. His father's tail laid outside the door and as he began to get closer he finally heard the slight embarrassment coming from the King.
"Are you asking me to go with you?"
"No! But since you're SO persistent about it!"
"I mentioned it ONCE"
"Look, Greenie. I get it. If you're too scared to ask about it in my presence then that's understandable. You are quite weak, but I'll consider your involvement in my duties."
"I...I DIDN'T EVEN ASK!"
Junior gasped and busted in, falling out of the car as it crashed into the bed and exploded into flames.
Luigi ducked and flew back as best he could to avoid the blast. Meanwhile Junior tucked into his shell and rolled over by his father's feet from the backlash. He popped out ready to defend his dad when he looked up to see his father glaring at him, his brows furrowed.
"Junior.... How many times do I have to tell you.. TO NOT USE THE CAR TO BUST THROUGH DOORS!", he roared. "ONLY THE WALLS GOSH DAMNIT!"
"He was yelling at you!! I wanna make sure he doesn't do it again!"
"He- go to the living area! Wait there with your siblings!"
"But dad!"
"NOW!"
Junior grumbled, "NO!"
Luigi was checking his arm, it was still sore, but the pain wasn't as intense. He coughed from the debris and stood up, looking at the two arguing.
"Great... Now there's two..", he muttered. "HEY!"
Both paused and snapped their jaws shut to stare at Luigi.
"U-Uhm.. my bed is.... Anyways, could we please get that taken care of? I don't want to hear you two bickering for the rest of the morning."
"You can't tell Papa what to do!", Junior huffed.
"I'll send someone to fix it.."
"WHAT?! BUT PAPA!"
"NO, GO TO THE LIVING AREA. NOW!"
"HMPH!"
Junior stomped off, not before sticking his tongue out at Luigi and pulling up his mask. Bowser watched him go and could see Junior wiping a tear away as he headed down the hall. He sighed then turned his attention to the flaming bed.
"If you want my advice-"
"Shut it and follow me."
"Right..", Luigi sighed.
'Not even gonna ask if I'm ok'
The two started down the corridor. Luigi, now making pace with the base of Bowser's tail.
"Oh, and is your arm healed yet?"
"what?.."
"You heard me."
Luigi looked at it, "Yeah, it's doing ok now."
"Good.. because you'll probably break the other one."
"WHY YOU-"
In the living area, the Koopalings were all waiting around on the cushioned furniture. A few blanket slings and egg chairs kept them entertained.
Junior stepped into the room and their attentions were raised as he wiped away another tear.
Roy spun over to him, got on one knee and asked him what happened. "Papa yelled at me! All because I was trying to stop the stupid human from yelling at him!"
"Did you crash the clown car again?", Lemmy asked.
"No!"
He raised an eyebrow at him, "Really?"
"Well..."
Roy smiled, "Nice one, lil Prince."
Before Junior could reply, Bowser walked in and looked at the room. The Koopalings gave him their attention as he smiled from it.
"Wait, where's Larry?"
"On your shell."
"...... LARRY!"
"Hehehe!", the little one slid down and ran back to his blanket swing.
"Now, I know you're all wondering about the Queen. But I can assure you, it's not what you believe it to be.", Bowser began. "There were some... Complications during the wedding ceremony and due to the mix up, Greenie here is the temporary Queen for a year."
Ludwig raised an eyebrow, "So he's still Queen.."
"Yes, but he's only this as a punishment! It's not permanent."
"Why not just imprison him for a year?"
"Yeah!", Morton agreed. "Torture him then patch him up again! Then torture him some more!"
The plumber tensed up and began to shiver from the thought of the kids using his body as a punching bag. He looked up at the King for any sign of mercy.
Bowser raised his brows, his eyes filled with pride in their persistent blood lust. He cleared his throat, "I've already injured his arm as a warning if he is defiant. Additionally, if we tortured him, his brother and the Mushroom Kingdom would begin a siege. Even though we could easily overpower them, we... Need to preserve resources."
Luigi let out a sigh of relief, but was still shocked by Bowser's growing smile.
Junior looked at him directly, "I don't like him! He can't be Queen! Divorce him!"
"Who taught you that?"
"Wendy said that's what couples do! Divorce him!"
"Junior.."
Bowser picked up the tiny Prince, a look of worry on his face. "Look at it this way, if I keep the small, feeble, weak human-"
"Hey!"
"-Then we could taunt Mario and torture him. You can even send a letter saying we fractured his arm."
"Really?!", The young Koopa exclaimed excitedly.
Bowser nodded.
"I'll go get my crayons!"
Luigi tried to jump in, "I don't think that's a good idea!"
"No one asked!", Ludwig noted.
"Now, you can get your crayons but you have to say you'll let the prisoner stay the Queen. No more talk of a divorce! From ANY of you.", His head slowly turned to Wendy.
She looked a bit unamused as she filed her claws, "Right."
"ok!", Junior agreed. He hopped down and ran over to Larry, who was already coloring on some paper.
Bowser looked satisfied with the outcome, but Luigi was just standing there baffled by his solution.
"You do realize my brother will have your skull if he sends that?"
"I'd like to see him try, shrimpie.", Bowser turned to leave. "I'm heading out children! Don't kill too many Troopa while I'm gone."
"Okay!", A few said in unison.
"No promises!"
"Greenie, you're coming back onto the ship."
"What?!"
"Your bed is damaged and I...uh.. don't have other rooms in the castle."
"You can't be serious.", Luigi replied, unable to believe him.
"Unless you want to sleep in my chambers...", Bowser murmured.
"Pardon?"
"Nothing! Get over here now!"
"Fine, geez! Would it hurt you to say please?!", Luigi scolded as he hurriedly rushed over to the stomping Koopa. "Prick."
"Shortie."
"IM ABOVE THE AVERAGE HEIGHT FOR HUMANS!"
"Sure you are. Keep dreaming, little Queen."
"I hate you..", Luigi grumbled.
"I hate you more."

NIGHTMARES AND SECRETS
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Trigger warning: Panic attack
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Mario and Luigi have finally settled into their new home in the Mushroom Kingdom and Mario wanted to give Lu a tour of the entire kingdom.
As they were strolling through the city shop, two Toad children with notepads came running up to them.
“Are you the Super Mario Bros?” They asked excitedly.
Mario and Luigi smiled and Mario gave the kids a thumbs up. “That’s us!”
The kids jumped up and down full of laughter and excitement. “We want to be news reporters when we grow up so we wanted to interview the heroes of the kingdom!” One of them said, getting her pen and paper out and ready, her friend taking out his toad-phone for a recording of the interview.
“Mario and Luigi,” the boy toad started. “What was it like fighting off the evil king Bowser?”
“Oh he sure was a big fight.” Mario stated. “But he was nothing against my little brother and I working together with the power of the Super Star.”
Luigi smiled at his big brother and nodded.
“Yep! That mean old Koopa is locked away eating mini-mushrooms for good!” said Luigi, leaning his elbow on his big brother’s shoulder.
The boy held his phone out to Luigi next. “Luigi, we do have one more question: during Mario’s adventure, you were in the clutches of the fire-breathing Koopa: King Bowser and were surrounded by nothing but his fortress of fire! We heard you were almost burned alive with others too! What was it like?”
Luigi shook at the child’s question. The flashback of Bowser’s fierce red eyes staring down into his scared soul, remembering the pain he felt when he gripped tight, his stache pulled and the Koopas sharp claws digging in his sides, trying hard not to yell in pain.
Luigi’s heart raced and he fell on his knees, shaking and panting fast.
“Mr. Mario!” The girl toad screamed. “What’s wrong with him?!”
Mario knelt down to his brother. “Luigi! Luigi!”
The voice was nothing but a blur in his ears as more flashbacks flashed his mind of the tragic memory of almost being burned alive, the memories or running away from a herd of dry bones and the heat hitting his back and face as he hung over lava in a cage with other prisoners which felt like forever. The final memory was him lying in the hard ground, struggling to stand as Bowser’s voice rang: “Let’s see how tough this Mario is when he watches me kill his brother!”
“Stop!” Luigi yelled out. Tears rolled down his face as he found himself on the ground, shaking. His vision was blurred as was breathing fast, trying to catch breath.
He yelped when he felt something touch his shoulder.
“Woah! Woah! Lu! It’s me!”
The sound of his brother’s voice calmed him down. He was still lying on the ground, struggling to stand as he noticed most of the toads and Mario were staring at him.
Mario helped Luigi get up on his knees.
“Are you okay?” Mario asked worryingly.
Luigi looked away from the toads and Mario, embarrassed about what just happened. “I-I’m…”
Nice going! He thought to himself, upset and embarrassed. Way to show how much of brave hero you are.
Luigi tried not to let the tears show. His head hung low as Mario let Luigi help him get back up. “Can we go home…please…”
Mario smiled.
“Sure thing. Come on Lu.”
“Is Mr. Luigi gonna be okay?” One of the toad children called out.
“He’ll be fine. Don’t you worry.” Mario reassured the toads, having Luigi rest his arm on his shoulder and he walked him home.
Later that night, Luigi sat at table with a cup of chamomile tea that was almost gone to help him relax and he rested his head on his arms. He didn’t speak a word since what happened that afternoon.
Mario walked up to Lu. “Hey, little bro. Are you hungry for dinner?” He was holding a bowl of soup in his hands, hot and ready for his brother to eat.
Luigi, still silent and shook his head. There was a knock on the door.
“I’ll be right back.” Said Mario. He set the bowl of soup by Lu’s cup of tea and walked up to the front door to look out the window and see who it was. It was Princess Peach! Toad was with her. Mario quickly opened the door.
“Princess!” Mario exclaimed, gesturing her to the living room. “Please come in!”
“I heard something happened to Luigi.” Peach said worryingly. “Is he okay?”
Mario sighed. Word spreads fast. “Some toad children were interviewing Lu and I,” he whispered, not wanting his little brother to hear. “And I think he had a panic attack.”
“From kids asking him questions?” Toad questioned sarcastically.
“It wasn’t the kids.” Mario explained. “It was the question they asked him.”
“What did they ask him?” Asked Peach.
“Something about being trapped in Bowser’s prison or something.” Mario said sadly. “I think something happened to him that he doesn’t want to tell me.”
The three turned and noticed that Luigi wasn’t at the table anymore.
“Luigi?” Mario called out. He gestured Peach and Toad to follow him to the bedroom door. Mario peeked through the crack of the door and saw his brother sitting in front of his bed rubbing his hands. Mario knocked on the door.
“Can we come in? The princess and Toad are here.”
Luigi gave his older brother a curious look and nodded.
The three walked and sat on Mario’s bed.
“Luigi.” Mario started. “I know you don’t want to talk about it but I know something is bothering you.” Mario let out a heavy sigh. “As your older brother, it’s my job to look out for you and be there for you and right now…I need to know what’s bothering you.” His voice started to break but still spoke softly. “Not just because of what happened earlier but also how you’ve been acting like you’re alright but I know you’re not because I know what my little brother looks like when something is scaring him.”
Toad rested his hand on Mario’s shoulder.
Luigi shook and stared at his broken brother with sad blue eyes, trying not to cry. He sighed.
“I-I…I’ve been having a hard time sleeping most nights because of my nightmares and sometimes…” he sniffled, trying to hold the tears back. “I would wake up screaming and telling Mario I’m fine when I’m NOT!”
The three gave Luigi a shocked look.
“Luigi,” Peach said with a gentle voice. “How long have you been having these nightmares?”
Luigi’s voice cracked. “Since our battle with Bowser in Brooklyn.”
“2 months?!” Toad exclaimed.
Peach walked up to the shaky plumber and placed her hands in his, helping him calm down the shaking. “Want to tell us what the nightmares were about?” Asked Peach.
Luigi dared not to look at anyone in the eyes. “My nightmares were mostly flashbacks of what happened when I was in the Dark Lands.” He started.
“My nightmares start off with me in the middle of the forest alone and being chased by these dead-like Koopas. I’m then surrounded and dragged to Bowser’s castle by now Shy Guys with rope tied to my wrists so tight I couldn’t stop to even look back because I would be pulled hard by them.” He tried to calm himself with slow breaths as he rubbed his hands, revealing the rope burn on his wrists.
Mario covered his mouth in shock at the intense burns on his little brother’s wrist.
Tears started to run down Luigi’s eyes. “And Bowser! He…he interrogated me and tortured me: pulling my stache, gripping my whole body with his claws that my sides were scarred and he threw me to the ground.
And then I’m in a cage over fire. I can hear the voices of screaming citizens around me. I-I keep my eyes covered before I fall into the fire and then…I wake up screaming and sweating! Feeling like the pain I went through in the Dark Forest is still there and…” he took a deep breath and rested his head on his arms, looking away.
“When Bowser threw me, I felt a ring in my ears…but his voice was so loud he made sure I was able to hear what he said before being thrown in that cage.”
The three were silent for a moment as Luigi hung his head low.
“What did he say?” Peach asked.
“He…He said that they’ll have to see how tough Mario was when he watches him kill me!”
Tears ran down Luigi’s eyes and he started to cry. Not saying another word. “I just want these nightmare to go away and they just won’t go!”
Mario stood up and walked up to his little brother. He knelt in front of him and leaned in to give him the biggest hug. Luigi wrapped his arms around Mario and buried his face in his brothers shoulder, crying.
“I’m s-sorry, Mario!”
Mario shushed him gently, crying softly. “You don’t have to be sorry, little brother. You’re going to be okay. I promise.”
Peach and Toad joined in the hug that lasted for 5 minutes until they heard soft snoring from Luigi.
Toad laughed. “Looks like he fell asleep pretty quick.”
“He needed to rest.” Said Mario, tears dried from both of the brothers.
Mario and Peach smiled at each other gently. His brother was fast asleep on his lap, snoring.
“Thank you, princess.”
Peach smiled back. “Of course, mustache.”
Mario laid Luigi in bed and turned on his nightlight.
“Well,” said Peach. “Toad and I must be heading back to the castle.”
“Alright,” smiled Mario. “Goodnight, Princess.”
They both left and Mario walked back to the bedroom. He smiled as Luigi was sleeping soundly and this time, there was no tears, no panics or screams, just three words.
“Goodnight big brother.” He said in his sleep. Mario laughed and headed off for bed.
“Goodnight Lu.”

first years game night- MARIOKART
every friday, the first years gather in ramshackle dorm for a game night! however- something is different tonight, hence the wide-screen TV and many beanbags piled in front of it, courtesy of ortho. everybody is surprised when they find out that the little robot boy held up a game cartridge that wasn't a board game, wasn't a fighting game- but mariokart, the known racing game that absolutely wrecks relationships!
(let's pretend that you can seat 5 players playing mariokart at a time)
Tumblr media
initial reactions
"ta-da! mariokart, a racing game! it'll be fun if you all played together!"
ace is the first one to react at this. he played mariokart with his brother all the time, it was a big part of his childhood and brings him a lot of nostalgia.
deuce has also played this a lot when he was a kid, but on the WII-U (or whatever magical equivalent of a handheld gaming device) rather than the magical WII set up in front of them. the game also brings him a lot of childhood nostalgia, similar to ace.
epel, jack and sebek have never seen this game in their life! epel was too busy playing outside- he did live in the countryside, after all. however, epel loves driving and magical wheels- this is a driving game, so he is more than willing to give it a go.
sebek remarks that technology was near nonexistent over where he lived, and has never seen a magical WII until this very moment.
jack just didn't prefer to turn to technology, as he is more of an outdoor person.
yuu is smirking, they can't wait to see this scene before them unfold. they played mariokart all of the time back in their world with their friends when hanging out and it always ended up super chaotic- after reminiscing a bit, it was them who came up with the idea of tonight's game. running over to ignihyde dorm for some guidance on where to find the game, they find ortho- and no later than 5 minutes, a TV, magical WII and mariokart is now set up in ramshackle dorm!
Tumblr media
picking characters
ace chooses mario. he thinks mario's accent is funny, that's all.
deuce picks luigi. luigi is a kind, good-natured man- much like he wants himself to be.
jack picks donkey kong. there was something about donkey kong that stood out to him straight away that made him pick him, and that was his look of determination on his face!
epel chooses bowser. he wants to be strong, so he picked quite a strong-looking character in the game. he also loves the spikes on bowser's back.
sebek picks yoshi. he was originally going to go for bowser, but epel picked him- and sebek ended up realising that a heavy character wouldn't do the best for driving the kart. so, yoshi he went (very unironically!)
Tumblr media
the racing starts!
"oh, whoever threw that shell at me is SO GONNA GET IT!"
out of all the ones to play absolutely merciless, it's epel. after picking up the cubes, he nearly always gets a shell of some type- green ones, red ones- all sent flying at his opponents! but the most notable time he shelled someone is when deuce was in first place. it was a plain green shell but epel managed to let it bounce off the walls and hit deuce's kart square in the back! he'll thank rook for teaching him amazing aiming skills later.
deuce is a very good drifter. he uses the track's curves to his advantage and garners the extra boosts of speed to drive himself up to first place. the mushrooms he gets also helps boost his speed, however it becomes futile when he gets shelled and overtaken!
ace, like epel, is more of an offensive driver when it comes to the race. he focuses on getting items, stealing items with the ghost, throwing the bombs and shells in front and back. he's not very careful though- he exploded himself with the bomb after he threw it where he ended up driving towards.
jack is a strategic player. although he's not very fast, he makes sure to leave banana peels behind him in order to hinder people driving through on the next laps and using the map's shortcuts. this actually helps him to climb up the ladder a bit, right on the tail of epel who is in first place.
sebek, oh, poor sebek. he is coming in an evident last place, getting caught by each and every obstacle people left behind. he keeps falling off the edge, with lakitu having to drag him back up again. he is yelling his head off while epel cackles maniacally in the background. but he somehow manages to obtain a blue shell and throws it, blowing up two people at once since jack and epel were very neck-and-neck. this allowed him to catch up!
after the game, they all lay on the beanbags zonked, epel triumphing in first place. but after some snacks joined the picture, they get ready to play yet another intense game of mariokart!

Bowuigi Valentines
“Sir, I assure you this is a rather unwise decision,” Kamek said as soon as Bowser finishing telling him where they were headed and why. This was exactly why Bowser hadn’t wanted to bring him in the first place but he’d invited himself aboard and they’d took off before Bowser had realized. But it was too late, they were already on the airship, well on their way to the Mushroom Kingdom. “And I’m not just saying that because I disapprove of you wanting to date him, even though there’s that too. What if Mario’s there or Princess Peach?”
Bowser hadn’t considered that but… “It’s Valentine’s Day, why would they be at Luigi’s place?” Surely, they had to have better things to do be doing in general but especially today.
“They could be. Also, what makes you think asking the brother of your former nemesis out on a date is a good idea? It was bad enough you’re being friendly with each other and letting him babysit your kids. What if he betrays you, huh?”
“First off, Mario is still my nemesis, the fact that I haven’t kidnapped Peach in ages doesn’t change that. Second, Luigi’s not going to betray me.” Bowser was typically pretty skeptical of people too but with Luigi, he just didn’t see it happening. And that was a large part of why Bowser had fallen for him. Of course he could still turn Bowser down which would suck but… it didn’t hurt to try, right?
Kamek adjusted his glasses in that obnoxious way he always did before going off on a rant about why Bowser should or should not do something. Thankfully before he could even get out a single word, the airship bell rang outside, indicating they’d reached their destination and were beginning to descend. Bowser quickly gathered up the heart shaped box of chocolates and bouquet of flowers off the desk and fled the captain’s cabin.
He’d never been to Luigi’s home before but it being a mansion made it a bit hard to miss even before he’d reached the ship’s railing. It was bigger than Luigi’s description had made it seem. And despite having only relatively recently been cleared of ghosts, it didn’t look haunted, just kind of old and a little dilapidated, fancy though. Overall Bowser liked it even if his castle was still better.
As the ship neared the ground, Bowser vaulted over the railing, landing with a thud on the ground below. He didn’t look back at it as he started down the path for the front door. Let Kamek be mad and disapprove, he was old and single so what did even know about romance anyway? Besides Bowser was the Koopa King and thus he did as he pleased.
Despite his resolve, he faltered a little as he reached the front door. He was a big bad fire breathing reptile, a former enemy of the Mushroom Kingdom, what were the chances someone as pure hearted as Luigi could possibly feel even slightly romantically inclined towards him? Not good, right? Even if they were friends now. … He was already here though and going back now would be the same as listening to Kamek so… with a deep breath, he pressed the doorbell, careful not to push it too hard.
He had to ring it twice more a couple minutes later before Luigi answered. That was just like him, he had a whole mansion and a bunch of money but did he hire any kind of house staff? Nope, of course not. Why would he when he could just do it all himself?
“Who…” Luigi cut off, freezing in place as he stared up at Bowser. “Oh uh… hey Bowser. What are you doing here and uh… um… why are you dressed so nicely?” Ah, good he seemed to like the suit. Or maybe not, it was hard to tell but he’d certainly noticed it and felt some way about it.
“I came to ask if you would do me the honor of being my Valentine?” With a flourish, Bowser pulled the box of chocolates and flowers out from behind his back to offer to Luigi.
Once more Luigi froze solid, only his eyes moving as he looked at the gifts then back up at Bowser’s face and then back again. He made a vague gesture towards himself. “M-me? Really?” That wasn’t a ‘no’ so… perhaps Bowser stood a chance after all?
“Yes, you!” It wasn’t often Bowser was unsure or nervous about something but… he really didn’t want to mess this up. “I already have a diner reservation at the fanciest place in my kingdom or yours if you’d like to go with me.”
“I uh… um…” Luigi shifted, looking away. … Oh no, he was going say ‘no’, wasn’t he? That made sense. What was Bowser even thinking, coming out here to ask him this?
“It’s fine if you don’t…”
“Yes!” Luigi interrupted with surprising amount to intensity. “I mean uh… I would love to be your Valentine and uh… go on a date with you.” He accepted the flowers and chocolate with a large smile.
Intense relief washed through Bowser, making him feel almost like he needed to sit down. “Wonderful,” he said because he needed to say something. “Whenever you’re ready go, the airship awaits.” He gestured back towards it. As per his instructions the shy guys had lowered the boarding plank and rolled out a carpet on it. They flanked it, waiting for Bowser and Luigi to board. Kamek was nowhere in sight, he was probably still sulking in the captain’s cabin; whatever, he’d get over it eventually.
“Oh wow uh… I should get ready then, huh? Just… give me a moment. And uh… feel free to come in.” Luigi ducked back inside, leaving the door open for Bowser to follow.
Inside, the foyer was unsurprisingly clean and tidy. The floorboards creaked under Bowser’s weight which was the eternal problem with wooden flooring. Luigi was already off somewhere, presumably to his room to get ready, leaving Bowser to wait here for him. Which was fine, he needed some time to get over his nerves anyway.
He didn’t have to wait long though, not even five minutes later, Luigi reemerged from the upstairs room. Bowser’s heart skipped a beat at the sight of him and what he wore; a lovely flowing green dress. “You don’t mind if I wear this, do you?” he asked as he nervously descended the stairs. “I can change again if you’d prefer.”
“Nah, don’t. It looks good on you.”
Luigi seemed to almost let out a sigh of relief as he reached the bottom of the stairs. “Also uh… before we go, I went back and forth a lot on whether or not I was going to mail this to you and then it eventually became too late so I thought I wouldn’t but then… here you are so… here.” As he reached Bowser, he pulled out a card he’d been holding behind his back and handed it to him.
‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ was written on the front in fancy lettering in the middle of a large red heart. Inside Luigi’s handwriting was neat and tidy. ‘Dear Bowser, you’ve come a long way since I first approached you about no longer going after Peach to fight Mario and we’ve been friends for a while now. Honestly, I’ve grown rather fond of you so I hope it is not too forward of me to ask if you’d perhaps like to try being more than solely friends. Answer next time we chat or just ignore this if you’d rather not, it’s totally fine. Yours truly, Luigi.’
Bowser chuckled as he looked back up at Luigi. He hadn’t been the only one thinking this at all, wonderful. “I’d like that very much.”
Luigi’s mustache partially hid his blush it was still unmistakably there. “I’m glad! Though… this does mean we’re probably going to have to tell Mario, huh? Keeping a friend secret is one thing but keeping a romantic partner a secret is uh… something else.”
True and that was honestly the only real downside to any of this but… “We’ll worry about that later.” Bowser waved that thought away, it didn’t matter right now so why even bother thinking about it? “We have a date to get to if you’re ready.”
“Uh… yeah, we can worry about that later. I’m ready to go.”

Dr. Mario & Germ Buster Playthrough.
Tumblr media
Fighter: Dr. Mario.
Game: Dr. Mario & Germ Buster, Wii. First Released on March 25th 2008.
Fighter Bio.
Dr. Mario is not a separate character but Mario in a different profession. The details of his medical license have been kept vague and he seems to treat the position as more of a hobby than his fulltime profession, however he has successfully managed to stop many infectious viruses from spreading across the Mushroom Kingdom over the years. The first time he was called to action was when Dr. Mario along with Nurse Peach were working in the Virus Research Lab of the Mushroom Kingdom Hospital (a location which has never made a confirmed appearance in any of the games but is often mentioned in the series.) An experiment goes wrong causing an accident, with the laboratory being flooded with rapidly reproducing viruses. These viruses came in three colours, red, yellow and blue. They are often named according to this (such as “Blue Virus”) however, they have also been known by other names, the Red Virus being called Fever, the Blue Virus called Chill and the Yellow Virus finally is called Weird. The effects of the viruses haven’t been seen explicitly, but these names suggest the effect each has, although Weird is more of a vague concept compared to Chill and Fever. Luckily, Dr. Mario in his previous research had created a wonder pill called a Megavitamin, a capsule with two sections that can be either yellow, blue or red. Provided the correct colours are lined up in a row on top of or next to a virus, the Megavitamin will neutralize it. Megavitamins have also been shown to have other qualities such as transforming individuals when many of them are consumed at once. With this knowledge, Dr. Mario throws his Megavitamins in bottles that contain the viruses and defeats them, stopping their spread. Over the years he has dealt with the return of these viruses as well as a few variations, sometimes with help and even at one point he had a rivalry with a profit seeking Wario. Beyond this however, the only major appearance Dr. Mario has made in any other Mario game is as one of the many outfits Mario can wear in Super Mario Odyssey, which, in a way marks the first time Dr. Mario is fully playable in a game aside from Super Smash Bros (not counting the costume of him in Super Mario Maker.)
Friends: Being Mario just in different clothes, overall his friends and allies are the same as the regular Mario’s, however there are specific characters Dr. Mario has interacted with in this guise. The very first was Nurse Peach (originally known as Nurse Toadstool) who was only involved in the backstory and instruction manual for the very first game. She was referenced in the later games but never physically appeared, only featuring in artwork from promotional materials. However in Dr. Mario World, a mobile game Peach finally appeared in a Dr. Mario game, being Dr. Peach now. Unlike a lot of the other Doctor characters in that game who have white labcoats, hers is pink in possible reference to her pink outfit in the Nurse Peach artwork from past games, although it could simply be to go with Peach’s usual affinity for the colour pink. Dr. Mario World has a lot of characters in it, with most of the regular Mario cast appearing in some form in the game. Most of these characters do not interact with Dr. Mario, however the two main exceptions are Dr. Peach who decides to help with the Virus outbreak in the game which is infecting her Toad citizens and Dr. Bowser whose troops are also getting infected. Dr Toad is another character who appears, giving Dr. Mario advice at the start of the game. Bowser does not become friends with Dr. Mario through this, however in the series as a whole this is his only major role, meaning to Dr. Mario specifically, he’s been more of a friend than a foe. Dr. Luigi made his debut initially during the Year of Luigi as a solo act, with him notably wearing a similar outfit to Dr. Mario, but with his usual hat rather than a head mirror. His next appearance however would have Dr. Luigi working alongside his brother, now wearing a head mirror also. With all of these instances there’s even less character interaction than in the main Mario series, so overall there’s very little more to be said on the subject of friends Dr. Mario has.
Enemies/Rivals: So the main enemies for Dr. Mario are the viruses he is trying to stop. Unlike with other enemies where rivalries form or antagonism takes place, Dr. Mario and the viruses don’t really have anything more to their relationship. There was one time that Dr. Mario did have to take on enemies and even a rival who were more than simple viruses however, with his Megavitamins being stolen by, oddly a character called Mad Scienstein. This character is notable as he is actually a villain from the Warioland franchise, and in the chase to catch him, Dr. Mario has to take on many other Warioland enemies before finally reaching Mad Scienstein’s goal, his boss Rudy the Clown, the main antagonist of Warioland 3. It turns out that Rudy is sick and that is why Mad Scienstein stole the Megavitamins to heal him. Dr. Mario takes on the pair and after winning helps Rudy recover despite his minion stealing the megavitamins. Throughout his journey however, Dr. Mario has faced off against Wario, who initially sought to steal the Megavitamins and only didn’t because Mad Scienstein beat him to it. At the end of Dr. Mario’s journey, Wario appears and eats a lot of the Megavitamins, transforming into a vampire form becoming the final boss Dr. Mario takes on. Wario also gets his own story in this game, where the final boss is in fact Dr. Mario who after eating the Megavitamins transforms into Dr. Metal Mario. Interestingly despite the large amount of characters in Dr. Mario World, Dr. Metal Mario is not one of them.
Crossovers with other Smash characters: Being Mario, Dr. Mario technically has had a lot of crossover appearances, however in this guise he has made none.

Why this game?
So, at the time I decided on a game for Dr. Mario, there were only really two choices available to me, the original Dr. Mario on NES and the Wiiware game Dr. Mario & Germ Buster. Dr. Mario 64 will only be released in Europe for the first time very soon and the other games which were either DSiWare or on 3DS were mostly the same thing from what I saw as the Wiiware game. If I were to choose a game now to play for Dr. Mario, with the release coming up on the Nintendo 64 Online console, I would go for Dr. Mario 64 as it has a story mode, but back then, I decided to go for Dr. Mario & Germ Buster mostly as it was the closest to Dr. Mario’s appearance in Smash (with the NES game’s design having more differences) and I had already bought it previously.
Tumblr media
My past with this game.
I feel like this is going to be one of the hardest ones for me to write this for. When it comes to Dr. Mario, I don’t really have some moment I remember, I don’t have a strong memory of the first time I played Dr. Mario and it’s a series that beyond my playthroughs for this whole challenge I’m doing I’ve never really played much of. Admittedly, I’m not a huge puzzle game fan, there’ll be times I get really into them but on the whole I’ve played very little. Admittedly, I’ll be more interested in a puzzle game if there’s a story or something alongside it, which is why a lot of the time Dr. Mario’s had very little appeal to me once I play it. For memories of hearing of Dr. Mario, I feel like I’ve always known of him due to pictures of the games and artwork of him in the various magazines I’d read growing up, probably before I saw him even in Super Smash Bros Melee. Even for Ice Climbers whilst I had little to say about my past with them, I could mention how they were odd characters I’d not heard of until Melee was announced which gave them a bit of mystique, but Dr. Mario is Mario, so there’s very little I can say overall. I guess, the only thing I have to add is, I do find the idea at least neat, having the premise of the puzzle game be you’re stopping viruses with medicine, it’s absurd but it’s one of those cases that actually benefits from the Mario skin in my mind rather than just using different coloured blocks and matching them up like Tetris. (Not to say anything against Tetris as that’s obviously a gaming icon regardless of, or because of its simplicity.)
Tumblr media
My Smash Playthrough.
I did as I do for a lot of puzzle games, I played it for a bit, got as far as I could, lost, played it again for a bit, got as far as I could, lost again and left it at that. I did enjoy playing the game, it’s a simple thing that is easy to play and I’m sure can be addicting to people who really enjoy puzzle games, it’s just a really hard one for me to honestly say much at all about. It was also good that it was a fairly cheap Wiiware title rather than a full game from what I remember, so overall I’d say it was pretty decent, if not something I can really say a lot about.
Specific aspects about the game relating to Dr. Mario in Smash.
He has Megavitamins which he throws. Given Dr. Mario in Super Smash Bros mostly has subtle differences to regular Mario there’s very little to really look out for when looking at his portrayal in his original series. What is slightly interesting actually is that in Super Smash Bros, Dr. Mario has black trousers, but in his own series he is wearing white trousers. The outfit for Dr. Mario in Odyssey similarly has white trousers, but it is the closest there is to a fully playable Dr. Mario in the Mario series, so that’s why I decided to include some screenshots of him in that game here too.
Tumblr media
Credits.
For information on this game including dates of releases I must give credit to the Super Mario Wiki.
The screenshots in this post are taken by me using the screenshot feature on Nintendo Switch, I decided not to get pictures of Dr. Mario & Germ Buster specifically as it was next to impossible and overall I felt not really needed.

Power Stars (Rock x Mario) Chapter 1: World 8-8
Mario ran and jumped  his way through the stone brick walls of the castle. How many times had he been through places like this? He lost count.  Still, the lava lakes between the platforms, spinning ropes of fire, thwomps, and of course all the Koopa Troopas, Dry Bones, Goombas guarding the place felt all too familiar.  It's okay it wasn't too much longer. The princess had to be at this castle. She had to be.  It was the last world after all. He had crossed oceans, desserts, plains, and bouncy mushrooms just to get here.  Again, this wasn't his first rodeo. Mario had rescued Peach from Bowser about a hundred times at this point, whether he was navigating castle to castle, using a high-tech water machine to hover and spray through the tropics, and even going into space! Still, this had started to bother our mustached hero. Saving Peach was of no inconvenience, but Mario was starting to wonder. Was Peach ever actually in danger? The fact that Peach was always getting kidnapped.. That she was always in another castle, was starting to become too convenient.
Of course these thoughts weren’t ones Mario came to realize on his own. His brother Luigi had been speculating that Peach was leading Mario on for a while. Luigi had his own share of problems, but princesses were not one, and he couldn’t stand seeing his brother risk his life for a romance that was actually dead in the water. Even if Mario had been blind to such things.
The mushroom-fed plumber finally made it to a throne room. No lava this time.  Just Bowser in his fancy white tux and hat, with Peach on his lap. “Mario!” Peach called with a wave, feigning fear, trying to  get Mario to ‘rescue her’, like he had so many times before.
“Gwah Ha ha!” Bowser roared in amusement. “You’re too late Mario-”
Just as he was about to lay out his convoluted plot, Mario interrupted him for once. Typically the small plumber had little to say. Especially since it was much easier to just recycle sound clips, rather than pay his actor for new ones, but today he decided to try to find out the truth. He wanted to put a stop to the kidnappings and castles, once and for all! “ABowser and Peach. Everya time I come, I try to rescue Peach from the castle. But not a week later, she’sa gone again!”
A blink came from  the spiky terrapin. He looked at his nemesis, then Peach.  Mario was starting to realize too much, and they both knew it! All these years Bowser had been trying to kill Mario, so that he and Peach could finally get married, without this red nemesis getting in the way. None of his plans had worked! Mario was impossible, and now he was realizing the truth. Bowser only had one more idea. A way to get rid of Mario for good.
“Well?” Mario asked, his hands in a fist, as per usual, but this time they were clenched tighter than normal. He was afraid to face the truth. He was angry, and sad as well.
“Bwah ha ha, you’re smarter than you look. I’ll give you that. Peach and I are going to get married soon, but you’re not invited. Everything has been a trick. You were never going to let her go. You’d never let her be with someone like me. We tried  so many times to kill you off, with castles, and fire, and all the soldiers we could afford but  SOMEHOW that just made you stronger! Even after finding out the truth, I know you’ll try to stop us. So here’s a little parting gift from me to you.” A small chuckle came from Bowser as he pressed a button. Suddenly the walls of the room fell,  showing an even bigger room. There was metal everywhere, but the most notable things were the high voltage signs, and the gigantic laser, standing right in front of Mario.
Peach was dumbfounded. Sure she was in on all of this, but Bowser never told her about any of this. Heck, she didn’t necessarily want Mario to die, she just wanted him to leave her alone… Possibly forever.  She had no words to say during Mario’s ‘final moments’
Mario was equally as dumbfounded, but this was happening so fast, and he couldn’t react accordingly. He was in a state of pure ambivalence. As he was just about to move, Bowser pressed another button on his remote, causing the laser to fire, even maniacally laughing as Mario was obliterated from existence in the Mushroom Kingdom.
“What did you do to him??” Peach asked after a minute, having to process what happened just now.  She was both curious, surprised, and perhaps even concerned for Mario.
“I sent him somewhere Far Far away. Somewhere where things won’t go nearly as well for him. Ha ha ha..” Bowser snorted. Finally! Finally he and Peach were free from that pesky Mario!

Any Port in a Storm Part I
Peach’s thin fingers leafed through the pages pinned to the clipboard, her eyes scanning the information in each blank and bubble. The lanyard, that she had gotten to fight her bad habit of losing pens, had actually ended up nudging her toward a new propensity to chew on them. She fought the instinct for now and at least she was always sure where the pens were.
She flipped to the front page, her vision tracing a path over the patient name and general information. Slipping the clipboard neatly into the slot at the footboard of the bed, she let the pen drop from her mouth to hang from her neck and dipped her hands into the pockets of her lab coat. The coat was such a shade of pink that it seemed it might have once been white and was just washed with something red by accident. She never replied to inquiries about whether its color was intended or not.
“Your charts are trending really well, Mr. Meeks,” Peach said. “The swelling has dropped off tremendously and you’re more alert than you were just a few hours ago.” She was sure to flash a smile, but she didn’t let it linger on her face for long. This visit wasn’t all good news.
Meeks replied with words too garbled to mean anything to anyone other than him. Tears welled up in his eyes as he spoke, letting Peach know the desperation behind whatever it was he was trying to get across. It was to be expected that speech would suffer given the severity of the stroke.
“I know that you’ve got a lot of questions,” she said. “I will be here to answer them as soon as things are a little better,” Peach said stepping around to the side of his bed. Her hand touched his forehead and she smoothed back the dark brown hair plastered to his skin.
“I’ll come around and check on you in a bit,” Peach said. It was best not to give exact times, the expectation might of her showing up might upset him and his mind was still foggy. There was no telling if he would be napping when she came back or if he would remember this conversation all that clearly. These first few days were bound to be a haze, but there could be some crucial developments too.
She waved curtly at him before turning to leave the room through the wide, mauve colored door. There was a sink in the center of this wing of the hospital, just across from the nurses station. She washed her hands in it, rolling up the sleeves of her coat to scrub halfway up to her elbows. A small group doctors and nurses passed, walking in a tight group and talking in hushed tones.
The whole world was hushed tones. It had been a sixteen hour shift so far and though there were times where she could take a short rest, most of her time had been spent on her feet. It would be several weeks before there were any relief either.
Absently, she dipped into the on-call room to grab a cup of water and just rest in one of the huge plush chairs. Peach didn’t know exactly when her eyes shut or for how long she was out. If someone had needed her they knew where to check on days like this. That was part of the problem.
“Peaches!”
Daisy’s excited scream was enough to rouse Peach, but not enough for her to open her eyes. Maybe if she pretended to be sleep Daisy would move on or was that bears…
“Wow, you smarmy bitch, I know you hear me,” Daisy said.
Peach could hear Daisy’s footsteps as she crossed the on-call room. The light from the hallway cut through her eye lids, causing a dull pain in the front of her forehead.
“The whole floor can hear you,” Peach said finally, shutting her eyes tighter against the light.
“Heard you were in here.” Daisy was standing right over her now, half-silhouetted by the light pouring in through the door. She wore a loud orange, yellow and white sundress with a frilly skirt and high heels. She always stood out against the beige and white tones that lined the halls of this hospital.
“Are you working today?” Peach asked.
Daisy cracked a little smile, her bronze skin had a luster to it even in the in the darkness of this room. “I’m always working, but no, I’m here seeing Luigi. I’ll be on the road for a bit with this new launch coming up, I might not get to see him for a while.”
“Do you need the room?” Asked Peach.
With a flick of her hand Daisy dismissed the question. “Nah,” she said before she folded her arms over her chest. “If we’re going to screw in this dreary place I’d rather do it in one of the empty rooms in the children’s wing.”
“You’re the worst,” Peach said.
“I know, but the little pictures of parading Goombas and Mushroom people they plaster on the sides of the beds make me smile,” Daisy said.
They had both gone through medical school together. Long before even that they were best friends, in fact Daisy they had known each other since before either of them could talk, but part of the way through their residency Daisy had chosen a different route in the industry: she was a sales rep for Gadd Pharmaceutical. It was her job to travel the region and teach hospital staff about new drugs or update them on treatment options afforded to them by drugs available to them.
Peach yawned, her arms and legs jerking out out so that she could stretch. There was no point trying to get Daisy to filter herself. “Have you found him yet?”
Daisy shook her head. “No, but I saw your little boy toy,” Daisy said giving the front of Peach’s chair a series of rapid kicks.
“Stop it,” Peach said, her fingers pressed against the sides of the bridge of her nose out of sheer frustration.
“He always asks about you and, like, he works in this place with you. How’s that going?” Daisy asked.
“I don’t fraternize like that here--” Peach said.
“—you’re definitely not fraternizing anyone and haven’t for a while. When was the last time you went out?” Daisy asked.
Peach sighed. “Half your job is taking people out and buttering them up,” she said. “It’s different in here.”
“You’re not only in here though, Peach. I might as well buy you a big crate of D-batteries and four weird cats so you can just settle down to be one of those old women who’s only source of sexual tension is the weird bag boy at the grocery store.”
“Hey, my life has sexual tension!” Okay, maybe that was too loud.
“There’s more sexual tension in nursery rhymes without people in them,” Daisy said. She crossed the room and poured herself a cup of coffee. Then she produced a small flask from a pocket hidden in the ruffles of her dress and poured a splash in with her coffee. “Talk to Mario. We can go on double dates.”
Daisy took a sip of coffee and then dumped the rest of the flask in. “We’ll be dating twins. Twins that are doctors. We could swap stories about them over mimosas and you can tell me if I’m right about Mario’s crank—“
“—Ew, Daisy no. I don’t—I don’t have time for those things right now.”
“Meow.” Daisy said after another, longer drink.
“What are you doing?”
“Meow,” Daisy said again. “I’m going to meow like a cat when you make excuses for not having a life. I’ll come to your apartment and just slap your stuff off shelves and pee in your shoes too until you get your personal life together.”
“You know I have other friends, right?”
“Sure you do.”
“Luigi and I get along well. And Doctor Bowser is a little, extra, but he seems nice and he always rushes any pathology results when I really need them.”
Daisy laughed. “I wonder why,” she said smiling as she tilted the cup up to her mouth again. “I notice that you’re not mentioning Mario in all of this.”
“Mario and I are…just fine. Why are you so concerned with all of this?” Asked Peach.
“You’re so happy,” Daisy said. “I mean I want you to be happy.” She took another big gulp of coffee. “But you’re happier every time I see you.”
“Did you ever think that maybe I just loved work?” Asked Peach.
Daisy shrugged, her blue eyes fixated down on her cup. “It smells bad here, like all of the time and people…people die,” she whispered the last part.
A little chuckle escaped Peach, she was sure it was not out of crassness, but other than that couldn’t tell where it came from. “The work is very hard. Occasionally I lose a patient or I have a really bad day, but my day is never as bad as the ones these people and their families are going through. And more often than not I get to make sure their day gets better…and that they have more days at all.”
Daisy eyed her for a long enough time that she was able to take several more sips of coffee. “You’re hiding something. I’m just here to let you know Peaches, I’ve known you too long for you to outsmart me for long. Im going to go find my man, you want the rest of this?” Daisy held her coffee cup down to show Peach the bit of dark coffee sloshing around at the bottom.
Peach shook her head. “Can’t drink—I need to be alert; I could use some food. It’s been hours since I’ve eaten anything.”
“I’d love to grab lunch with you, but we’d have to—“
Peach cut her off. “—no, you’re here to see Luigi. I’ll be fine,” Peach said.
“Are you sure?” Asked Daisy as she tossed her cup and the remainder of the coffee and liquor mix into the trash.
With a little smirk plastered on her face, Peach nodded.
Daisy closed the gap between them and reached out to touch Peach’s forehead, her thumb brushing back the flyaway bangs that were too short to make it into Peach’s haphazard bun. Daisy swept a blonde tendril of hair back behind Peach’s ear. “Take care of yourself, okay?”
“I will,” said Peach.
Daisy bent down and kissed her on the cheek. “See you later, love.”
She was careful to close the patient’s door before starting up, but the entire time Peach kept eye contact with Lemmy. He was one of the newer nurses in this part of the hospital, but he had worked in other places supposedly. She really didn’t know him that well, he hadn’t been around long enough. Peach knew she had to nip this in the bud.
“Why am I seeing that you held my patient down and started a Phenytoin drip?” Peach asked.
Lemmy was an odd looking man, even for a Koopa. He had rainbow colored, dyed hair and his eyes were a little crossed. His arms seemed too long for his body, like he had to bend them awkwardly when he scratched the back of his head. “It’s one of the most common anti-seizure medications.”
“Maybe sixty years ago. It’s never a first choice now and an IV is inadvisable due to the risk of cardiac or local toxicity.” Peach kept her tone even. She didn’t make it a habit of laying into nurses and other hospital staff, but this whole situation rubbed her the wrong way.
“I made the call I thought was best and look, the patient is getting better.”
“They’re getting better because you got lucky. We don’t hope for our luck to hold out in a place like this because when it doesn’t people die. We do our due diligence to make sure that we don’t end up staring down the barrel of a malpractice law suit or, worse, having to tell a family there’s nothing more we could do,” Peach said.
“No disrespect, but you’re being hysterical, Dr. Toadstool,” he said.
Peach brushed the hair out of her face and glanced around to see if the inevitable attention of nearby staff had found them. She pushed her lanyard and stethoscope aside to reveal her identification badge. “Can you read that word right there under my name?”
Lemmy glared down at the badge and then back up at her. He knew what it said before he read it, but had looked anyway. “Neurologist.”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought it said too, but I wanted to get your opinion since you’re such an expert.” Peach fumbled with the door charts. “Look, you’ve obviously been at this long enough that you feel you know better than everyone even though I spent more time doing my residency than you’ve been doing this job. Do what you want. And when someone has adverse effects I’ll treat them. When they code I’ll do my best to bring them back, but remember someone won’t always be there to pick up your slack.”
Peach tossed the clipboard back into the slot in the door and trotted off down the hallway, unsure of where she was going. She knew that others would be staring at her now, she had raised her voice just a tiny bit, but she had been here too long and there was no excuse for how that nurse was talking to her, especially not after that.
She thought it might be best to end her day here. Maybe this was the end of her rope; she had been burning the candle at both ends for some time now and the more exhausted she was the more dangerous it became for anyone placed in her care.
One of the break room doors was down the hall was open and she heard the sound of Daisy’s voice before she could even see what was going on inside. She didn’t feel like stopping, but she spotted Daisy and Luigi curled up on the couch together watching the TV, he must have been off. It wasn’t unusual for him to hang around the hospital when he was done.
Peach passed by, heading into the wing opposite her own. As she passed through a set of double doors and the cold air of the next hall washed over her she spotted a familiar face coming her way.
The mustached doctor and Luigi’s brother, Mario. He smiled as he noticed her, but stopped a little ways down the hall in front of the elevator. She strolled up to meet him. “Dr. Toadstool,” he said.
She gave a little nod of acknowledgment. “Dr. Mario.”
“Where are you headed?” He asked.
“Um, this elevator. I think I’m ending shift I’m on,” she said.
“Must be a Hell of a shift, weren’t you starting when I left yesterday?” Mario asked.
Peach chuckled. “It’s possible, my days are kind of blending together,” she said. Then she leaned down and pressed the button on the elevator. “One of us should probably press this.”
“You’re going up?” Mario asked.
Peach glanced up and down the hallway. “Yeah. I mean, you were. We’re having a conversation, so I’m going with you.”
“I mean we were but…” he trailed off. “Your drug rep buddy stopped by my office today.”
“Oh no.”
“Don’t worry, she was mostly cordial.”
The silvery doors of the elevator opened and a soft robotic voice spoke. “Floor three, going up.”
Peach followed Mario into the elevator and when the door shut he asked. “Did you tell her about us?”
“No.”
“Really?” Mario grazed the side of her leg, just below her skirt and her skin went tight and hot. “Why not?” He asked.
She crouched down to his level, resting her back against the metallic elevator wall. Peach clenched his wrist, holding it up and pressed her body to his, their lips almost missing each others in the collision, and his hand trapped between them.
Peach grabbed his necktie, through the top of his coat to pull him closer. He groaned, the sound coming from somewhere in his throat or upper chest. His mustache scratched at her upper lip, but his mouth seemed softer than she remembered each time they did this.
The ride to the tenth floor and Mario’s office was never long enough for anything too exciting, but it still left her in a hazy stupor. When the doors opened the stumbled out of the elevator with hands linked, giggling like school children until they made it to the door of Mario’s private practice.
Mario struggled getting the key into the door and turning it, the lights in the office clicked on automatically when they stepped into the waiting room. The walls were lined with chairs except for the spots where a decorative plant or magazine rack was. Below some of the chairs were baskets with toys for the children. The area seemed much larger at night when no one was there.
“Mind if I take some time to wash my hands?” Peach asked.
Mario shook his head. “Course not.”
Peach slipped the coat down over her shoulders to reveal the plain white button down blouse she wore under it, she tossed the lab coat over a chair and headed for the restroom. Even before she started to wash her hands and the moment the door was closed behind her, the sink was running. The dark sacks of skin puffed up beneath her eyes in the mirror were the true sign that she had reached her limit for the day, she probably had some hours ago.
She rinsed her hands in the warm water, adding soap, and then rinsing them again. Peach splashed some of the water up into her face and dried it off with one of the beige paper towels from the automatic dispenser.
Her gaze met her reflection’s in the mirror. “Mario and I will get there soon, but today’s not the day. Best not to rush these things.” Every secret date and little meet up they managed, this was her mantra. Mario was going to be there, he wasn’t going anywhere and she didn’t see a reason to push things too fast with him. There was a lot of emotion tied up with that part of a relationship. It all seemed like a seriousness that she didn’t want at the moment.
For all of Daisy’s talk of Luigi, things were easier for her just by virtue of being a drug rep. She wasn’t chained to the same building as Luigi, constantly worrying about how every little interaction with him went. She had prep time!
Not that Daisy worried about anything like that—she seemed to drift through life on extremely fortunate luck.
With a small sigh, Peach undid the top button of her blouse and, using a paper towel, turned the knob to open the door. Mario had left the waiting room, but she knew where he would go. She made her way through the hall where his smaller examination rooms were until she reached his office. The first thing that she noticed every time she entered this room was the view, it was overlooking New Donk Medical Plaza, but in the distance was midtown and city hall sparkling like constellation.
Mario was perched on top of his desk with the dull purple of the city lights filtering through the window at his back. It was enough that Peach could make out his eyes, it was enough that she could see in his face what he wanted her to do. She pressed herself into the apex formed by Mario’s legs until the hollow sound made by her knees bumping the desk echoed through the room.
They both had to stifle their laughter, but it was that awkward kind of chortle that snowballed into a more infectious, out of control laugh. The electricity between them had been stretched so taut that Peach heard all of these sounds that weren’t there. At least them laughing covered that up.
The chuckling tapered off until they were standing there staring into each other’s eyes. Peach rested her hands on Mario’s legs, just above his knees. He lifted her chin, stroking the side of her face with his thumb and kissed her cheek. “Do we want to stay here or go somewhere else?”
“We just got here,” Peach said in a very small voice.
His lips brushed against her ear, his mustache ticking the side of her face and catching at the stray tendrils of hair. “But you didn’t eat today, did you?”
How did he know? “No,” Peach said out of breath. “It’s no big deal, I was going to pick something up on the way home.”
“We could pick something up together.” Mario pressed his face into the nape of her neck, sucking at the skin just where her shoulder began to curve up. He fumbled through heir hair, undoing the ribbon that held it up.
“We could.” Her body responded by curling to the side, resting her weight against Mario’s leg as she let out a little gasp.
“It wouldn’t take long.” The words were spoken against her neck, barely audible, but she vibrations of each syllable across her skin was like lightning. “We’ll just—“
Peach spun, locking her lips to his forcefully and pushing her tongue into his mouth. Their chins jabbed at each other as they rocked together against the desk. He groaned so low and so deep that it felt like it was coming from within her. She moved her fingers back through his dark hair, the bits at the front were damp from where he had probably splashed water in his face the way she did.
It didn’t occur to her that her eyes were shut for a while, that they had closed themselves out of habit and all of her senses seemed to meld in to cover the gap. She could smell the dying embers of his cologne, something strong and astringent with a citrus hint. There was a smell just peeking through that one, like an iceberg out of the ocean, it was the smell of clean sweat and just him. His mouth tasted slightly sour, in the natural way anyone’s probably did after being in this place all day. She didn’t mind because it was Mario.
“I had a really, really awful day,” Peach said, pushing her hand into his chest to separate them. Behind him, the sky outside the window had changed. It seemed cloudier, buzzing with a kind of static.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Mario asked.
“Not really,” she said. “Come here.”
Across from the office from his desk, set against the wall was a small couch. Peach slipped out of her shoes before folding her legs onto the couch, so that she was sitting on them with her butt rested on her calves. Mario trailed behind sluggishly, pausing before the leather couch when she moved to pat the spot next to her.
“Are you sure?” Mario asked.
Peach leaned out, grabbing his hand and pulling it into her lap. “If you want me to be.”
“I want you to be sure for you—we had that talk before and—“
“And we decided that when the time was right we would know, but let’s be realistic: you want me, right?” She asked.
Mario’s eyes zigzagged along her body tracing a line from her toes, around the bend in her knee and all the way up to her face. “How could I say no, Peach, I—“
Her foot brushing the side of his leg stopped his words, his eyes widened and then Peach was unbuttoning her blouse, slowly revealing a flimsy pink tank top she wore underneath it. Mario watched, his heart beating so loud that she could hear it, could feel it where his hand rested in her lap.
Mario clambered up onto the couch and crawling over her, his hands sunk into the couch on either side of her waist. Her mouth rose to meet his helplessly and Mario’s lips responded by pushing her head against the arm rest, smashing her hair into a knot behind her head.
That little cautious voice in her head was in a veritable screaming panic, but the thundering of her heart and the soft moans drowned out any want she had to stop herself. Peach wasn’t above just going for it and this was a calculated risk.
A flash of light filled the room followed by the tremendous rumble of thunder. Peach caught Mario’s chest with both hands, her nails tracing little lines over his smooth skin. Around and between his nipples. “It would be dangerous for me to drive in this weather—I didn’t even bring an umbrella,” she lied. She always had an umbrella. Any reason to stay like this.
“I guess we’ll just have to stay here.” Peach rocked forward resting her butt on the leather sofa just in front of Mario’s crotch. Her hands trembled with anticipation causing her to fumble with his belt, managing to free the clasp from the puncture holes that held it after a few attempts.
Mario was rigid beneath his slacks, she could feel him when her arm brushed against the bulge beneath the fabric. He twitched sending a positively seismic shiver through her very being. Peach reached through the v-shaped crevice of his unfastened slacks and under the waist band of his boxers to grab his cock. He let out a stuttering sigh and arched his back, pumping against her grasp involuntarily. His skin was so warm and smooth and he glided through her palm.
Peach laughed, biting down softly on her lip and then glancing into Mario’s big blue eyes. “Is this okay?” She said in a voice that was barely a whisper.
“Yeah,” he moaned.
“Yeah,” she repeated. “Are my hands too cold?”
Mario shook his head.
A dopey grin stretched over Peach’s face. She pulled his cock up over the waistband of his pants. He was engorged, the skin being stretched so taut had smoothed any wrinkles there might have normally been. It wasn’t like she was some kind of cock connoisseur most of her experience with them recently had been related to her work. Feeling one in this context without latex to separate skin from skin and with it heavy and erect was caused her to think things she’d usually gripe at Daisy about saying.
Peach looked down at it, running her thumb along the gentle, rounded rise of the crown of his cock at an excruciatingly sluggish pace. Mario nails raked at the leather couch when she finally reached the ventral side where a little divot that marked the beginning of the frenulum led her thumb up to the hole in his penis. Mario sucked on his teeth, wincing at the sensation.
“Does it hurt?” She asked.
Mario shook his head.
She thought the better of blowing him. It had been a long time and she was tired. Probably tired enough that she wasn’t thinking clearly, but more so she had been at the hospital over a dozen hours. If she went down on him and he felt compelled to do the same for her—no it was best to keep things simple.
Peach’s hand grazed his face, the stubby hairs dotting his face catch at her skin as she makes small circles around his chin. “So…”
He leaned in to press his lips to her neck. The air conditioner for the area of the building kicks in with a thunderous hum that seems to shake the sofa and drum through their bodies. Everything is so secluded, cut off. They’re in a building with hundreds, maybe thousands of people, but they’re alone.
The second that his fingers touch the inside of her thigh every rational part of Peach is gone. Even with all of the room afforded to them, they stay confined to the couch, fumbling to stay in contact, never not kissing for more than a few moments while trying to strip to the minimally required clothes.
He got her underwear down and she could feel the damp fabric move past her leg. Peach moved to mount him, straddling and pushing him back into the couch. Her pressed against his upper chest, almost in his face. Mario pushed his way inside of her slowly, rising up to meet her body halfway. Peach grunted, her eyes shut against the sensation, but she after a second she began to rock her hips against him.
There was a warm satisfaction in the way that they were grinding together. Why did she wait so long to do this? They rocked together on the couch while the lightning outside erupted into a full fit that lit the darkened room for full seconds at a time. Thunder undercut her soft moans, his desperate grunts.
Mario mouthed something against her ear, and though she couldn’t hear him just the brushing of his lips on her ear exhale her answer, a breathy, “yes.”
He gripped her hips tighter, pulling her down hard onto him as if trying to get every inch of himself to go into her. His breath caught and his teeth nipped at her ear. Peach felt the hot explosion inside as Mario came.
Peach clenched her thighs around him and turned her head against the back of the couch, biting at the leather to muffle her little moans. She hadn’t actually quite come, which was normal. She didn’t typically cum without a lot of lead up or something other than vaginal sex, at the very least.
But then it seemed Mario wasn’t done with her.
He moved from between her legs, leaning against the couch with his left arm and then tugged her upright with him and spinning her so that she was pressing her bare back into his chest. She let out a sharp yelp as his lips touched her neck.
“I’m fine, I’m fine, don’t worry,” Peach said, holding up a hand as if to steady herself.
Mario wrapped an arm around her thigh, bunching her skirt into knots between her legs and began press against the folds of skin between her legs. Peach’s body jerked forward when he brushed the fabric against her clit. Air caught in her throat as she went to make a sound but was cut short by the surprising intensity of the sensations. He mimicked the motion that had gotten the reaction out of her, massaging with a little more pressure now and pushing the cloth of her skirt against the sensitive area.
He steadied her with his other hand, pulling her back to his chest and cupping her breast.
She tried to encourage what was happening, but the only word she could get out was his name. Something warm and wet and slow dripped down the inside of her thigh. In the kind of brief moment of clarity that can only be recognized in distant hindsight, she thought about what had happened: I let him cum inside me?
That was her last true bit of her self-awareness before Mario’s fingers, wrapped in the textured fabric of her skirt, caused her to melt into him. She was reduced to a moaning mess of jerky hip rocking mixed with sharp yelps.
Despite the embarrassingly small size of the styrofoam cup, Peach still held it with both hands as she swiveled it beneath her nose to take in the aroma. Mario definitely bought better coffee than they had back on her floor. She could tell by the heat against her cheeks that it was still much too hot to drink.
She stared out over the misty morning skyline of New Donk through the huge window in Mario’s office. They slept, naked and bundled up in their discarded clothes on the old leather across from his desk. The blinds had been up and the sun’s light burned across the room into their eyes at its very first chance. What was she thinking? In all her years she had never had sex with anyone from work, especially not at work.
Actually, she hadn’t had sex since she worked here. The length of time since her last relationship slowly dawned on her. Still, things with Mario came so naturally. Through months of courtship leading up to this her heart continued to flutter when he first spoke to her. It had happened when they woke up together.
The door to the office opened and Peach spun around, frightened that they hadn’t locked it and it was some parent and their child coming early seeking medical help, but Mario stepped in with plastic grocery bag dangling from one hand.
“You got them?”
“Yeah. The lock on your locker is a little finicky,” he smiled. “And don’t worry, no one saw me.”
“I would only worry if Daisy was still snooping around,” Peach said before finally taking a drink of her coffee.
He handed her the bag and Peach placed her cup on his desk to open it. She stared down at the bottom to see the fresh pair of scrub pants folded neatly. “Thank you. Pretty sure my skirt can just go in the trash now,” Peach said moving to wrap one arm around him. “Um, sorry about your couch—it must be pretty old.”
“Are you kidding, it’s a leather couch in a pediatricians office, it’s seen some shit. I’ll get some leather wipes and it’ll be fine,” he said. “It was actually already here when I moved into the office.”
“Oh,” Peach said putting a shocked hand to her face. “Maybe I shouldn’t have put my mouth on that…”
They both froze before bursting into boisterous laughter that last far too long for what wasn’t even meant to be funny.
“What did you decide to put back on?” Mario asked. “Are you just wearing the coat?”
“No,” Peach said pulling the lab coat open so he could see. “I’m just wearing the blouse beneath the coat and…yeah the coat.”
He hugged her around the waist. “Has anyone ever told you how sexy you are standing around in just a blouse and lab coat?”
“If you say so…” Peach giggled. “But…don’t start that now, you’ve got appointments—and—and a secretary coming in a half hour. How do you think Shokora will feel about me being in here with my naught bits all exposed?”
“So you have to go?” Mario asked.
“Yes. I need to nap and shower and try to salvage this skirt too.”
While Peach changed into the scrub pants and finished her coffee they chatted some more about mundane things. When it came time for her to go she was insistent that she walk alone.
“Are you sure you’re going to be okay walking down to the car yourself?” Mario asked.
“Yes. I usually do it at night. Plus it would ignite rumors.”
He still walked her as far as the elevator, stopping to lean against the doors to hold them open, he checked both ways down the hall before leaning in to kiss her. “Goodbye, Doctor Toadstool.
“Bye, Doctor Mario,” she kissed him on the lips and he stepped back letting the doors close between them.
The moment she was out of sight, Peach jumped up and down with her hands balled into tight little fists at her sides. She wanted to scream or dance, maybe even while screaming, but the elevator dinged and came to a stop for an old woman in a wheel chair to roll in. She nodded at Peach, but said nothing on their ride to the sub level.
The parking garage was bustling with people, more than she was used to seeing. This wasn’t a time when she normally arrived at or left the hospital, which turned out to be lucky for her because most of these people wouldn’t really know her. She opened the back door of her car, throwing the bag of clothes she’d brought down onto the floorboards.
“Peaches!?”
Oh no.
“Peaches? I know goddamn well you hear me. Is that your cute ass in those awful scrubs?” Daisy rushed over and hugged her, pressing her against the side of the car roughly.
“Hey Daisy.” Peach folded her arms around her body to keep the lab coat closed.
“Hey to you too. Since when do you work in the mornings. I mean are you just getting here or…wait what’s that smell?”
“There’s a lot of cars around. It could be a gas or something, you should go tell the guard.”
“No, it smells like sweaty leather and sex,” Daisy said. She sniffed the air, leaning in close to Peach. Peach leaned back in return. “Why do you smell like you’ve been having sex?”
Peach tightened her arms around herself, averting her eyes from Daisy’s gaze, until the phrama-rep reached out and poked her in the sides, just below the ribcage. She used to do this all of the time when they were in school. It was a surefire way to tickle Peach quickly and make her loosen up. The moment Peach’s arms jerked away, Daisy threw open her lab coat and gasped.
“Same shirt, shitty old scrubs! You and Mario?” Daisy asked before twirling in a quick circle like an excited puppy. “You and Mario!”
“This is why I didn’t tell you things had been…progressing,” Peach said.
“That’s not fair. I tell you about all the weird shit I get up to,” Daisy said.
“Yeah, you tell me too much, honestly.”
“Well now you’re going to spill it. We are going for breakfast cocktails right now and you’re going to spill it,” Daisy said latching on to Peach’s arm and closing her car door.
“It’s like seven in the morning and I have to get home,” Peach protested. “Don’t you have to work?”
“Oh please, I’m one of the top sales reps in the country, I make my own hours. Now come on, I know a bar that makes a mean omelette.”

Biscuit Reviews Super Mario Bros.
Tumblr media
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, I thought it would be great to go back and review the game that started it all. Super Mario Bros. for the NES which came out in 1985.
What more can be said about this game that hasn’t already been said. It has been credited on saving the video game market from the video game crash that started in 1983, World 1-1 has been dissected as a great tutorial level (more on that in the review), and it was highly replayable in terms of searching for more secrets, shortcuts, and simply trying get to the end as fast as possible. The last point would serve as the inspiration for Sonic the Hedgehog. Yeah, Mario inspired his greatest mascot rival with the creator of Sonic always wanting to get through World 1-1 as fast as possible.
For this particular review I am reviewing the Switch version that is available on the NES Emulator through Nintendo Switch’s online service.
The story is simple. Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach. Mario and Luigi must rescue her. Bowser’s army has also taken over the Mushroom Kingdom and he has casted a spell on its citizens by turning them into blocks.
There are a total of 8 Worlds with 4 levels each, with the fourth level always being a fight with Bowser in that World’s castle. Throughout Mario and Luigi’s journey, they will be fighting Goombas, Koopas, Hammer Bros, Squids, Cheep-cheeps, and Lakitas and all have their own unique patterns of hindering their progress. Each level also has its own obstacles that the player must navigate through to reach the end of the level.
To help with the enemies and obstacles, Mario and Luigi have access to power ups that will allow them to take an extra hit from an enemy by collecting a Red Mushroom, gain an extra life by collecting a Green Mushroom, have a fireball attack by collecting a Fire Flower, and have temporary invincibility by collecting a Power Star. There are also coins to collect throughout the stages as well. Collecting 100 coins will grant Mario and Luigi an extra life.
Each level builds upon your familiarity with the game and thus challenges you even more as you become more used to the controls and mechanics.
The game will end if Mario or Luigi reaches the final world and level, or if Mario and Luigi run out of lives. If they run out lives, progress will revert to the start at World 1-1. If you don’t want to do that, simply press and hold the A button on the Game Over screen, select how many players on the main title screen and return to the first level of the World you were on. However, with the Nintendo Switch version, you can open the emulation options and simply turn back time to moments you die as if it never happens or reload save states to return to your progress.
Now some might say that using the emulation controls go against the developers original intent. Although it very well might, if those same developers went back many years later to implement those controls, couldn’t it also be argued that they are simply just giving another option to play their game?
The option is there to play with the original intent or in this other way. This is something that I feel that Nintendo has always approached Mario games, the freedom to explore and to try out different moves and techniques at Mario’s disposal. It’s a topic that I feel will always be discussed
As I mentioned previously, we also have one of the greatest tutorial levels ever created. So much so that this is constantly referenced for level designers in creating tutorial segments and instructional designers on how to incorporate stealth learning in their courses. Super Mario Bros. World 1-1 offers many learning opportunities for players before they start the game proper.
The level contains a nice area for the player to get used to the controls such as walking, running, and jumping before advance. Mario is even placed on the left side of the screen with the right side being open to show that is the direction to go. Then there’s the introductory Goomba, an enemy that can be defeated by jumping on it. Even the Goomba’s design indicates to the player this is an enemy with a creature advancing towards Mario with an angry looking expression on its face. Said Goomba will also teach the player that if touched, Mario will lose a life.
It even teaches you about ? blocks with Mario under one and some bricks. That ? block will provide coins and sometimes even powerups, which in the levels case, a Red Mushroom. Even if the player tries to avoid it there are obstacles that will have Mario take the Red Mushroom, which in turn, shows the player the Red Mushroom is good as it makes Mario stronger. There are also various points in the stage where if Mario is hit, you learn that a Red Mushroom will allow Mario to continue the stage after the previously learned one hit.
The game also shows you that secrets in stages exist by having these secrets planted through other tutorial areas such as pits to jump over. For example, the long jump pit has a secret. The long jump in particular works with it’s secret is that it serves as a safety net for the player as they jumped too soon.
But of course, you don’t have to take my word for it: here are two videos that go into more detail about World 1-1’s design
youtube
youtube
This one game inspired so much for many people. Without the success of Super Mario Bros, there wouldn’t be a Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Halo, or Metal Gear. Because most likely, the video game market might no longer exist or at least not be the juggernaut that it is today.
So by no surprise to anyone:
Super Mario Bros. receives a 5 out of 5

Total Drama Smash Bros: Episode 2, Part 2 Something Fishy This Way Comes...
*Wario wanders around a dark and fog-filled campground by a lake, looking in vain for the tell-tale signs of the Camp in question, unfortunately it seems like he's in the wrong place*
Wario: Welp, that's it, I'm lost. Sakurai damn it! What's a guy got to do to steal a measley twenty-million around here!?
*An unknown 1st Person POV shot begins tracking Wario through the abandoned campground while breathing heavilly*
Wario: Dammit Ganondorf! You couldn't of hidden your summer camp of torture somewhere more accessible?! And what's this shit about not inviting me to help in your revenge fetish story?! And what the hell is up with this place?! Camp Crystal Lake?! What kind of bullshit name for a camp is that?! You might as well name it Camp Super Happy and be done with it! Why I outghta-
*Wario is interrupted from his rant by the 1st Person POV approaching behind him. Wario turns to see a massive mountain of a man in ragged clothes wearing a hockey mask and wielding a machete.*
Wario: Oh, hey there buddy. You okay? You're breathing kind of heavy. You need a cough drop or something?
*The man does not respond, merely continues breathing heavily and glaring at Wario*
Wario: Hey, buddy! I'm talkin' to ya! *More silence* Look buddy, you're kind of violating Wairo's personal space, so I'm gonna have to ask you to back off.
*The man does not respond, merely lifting up his mask and allowing Wario to see his face before replacing it*
Wario: Woah! Buddy, that's one hell of a condition! I've got some skin cream in my bag, here let me get it for ya. *The masked man raises his machete as Wario fishes through his pack.*
------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------
Back at the Fishing Grounds
*The boats have shoved off and the teams have departed. Some are doing well! Others are doing... not so well.*
(Erdrick and Robyn's boat)
Erdrick: I got one! We're eating good tonight!*Begins reeling in his line*
Robyn: Wow. That was fast.
Erdrick: Almost here... almost here...! *he reels it in revealing it to be... an old boot* Aw, tartar sauce. *he glumly throws the boot into the boat*
(Roy and Samus' boat)
Samus: Jeez, how do you use this thing? It's so primitive!
Roy: Well, how do you usually go fishing?
Samus: I get on a aqua terrain suit, load up my spear-gun, and take the offensive. None of this waiting around crap.
Roy: Right, future, forgot. *sighs* Here, let me show you.
Samus: Right. So, where's the prime interface so I can load up the targeting system?
*Roy facepalms*
(Link and Bonny Janet)
Link: *staring at the water thoughtfully, surveying the whole area*
Bonny Janet: Oi! Elfy! Ya goona let ma in oon tha' big secret?
Link: Just determining the best place to fish. Have to take into account water currents, sunshine, and a whole bunch of other- fuck it. *Link jumps into the water and reemerges a minute later with a Spotted buck-Salmon clenched between his jaws*
Bonny Janet: BLOODY HELL! Do ya always fish like thaat?
Link, spitting the fish into the boat: My ancestors used fishing rods, but Mipha taught me to fish like a Zora. Lots more efficient.
Bonny Janet thinks for a moment before an evil grin comes over her face: Oi. Ya think ya could get moore tha' way? We git moore, oone fer each oof our team... an' wee've goot a good chance o' winnin'!
Link, pulling himself into the boat: Huh. Good idea Bonny.
*The two look over to see Marth struggling to thread a fishing line through a hook and Joker shooting into the water with his gun, trying to hit one of the fish.*
Bonny Janet: Oi! Princey! Witch-son! *Bonny throws the fish Link caught at their boat, smacking Marth in the face, knocking him down*
Joker, picking up the fish from an unconscious Marth: Thanks Bonny!
*Link and Bonny Janet give a thumbs up which Peach sees and grows frustrated*
-
Confessional
Peach: This is bad. Link and the imp working together?! This is seriously bad news.
-
(With Erdrick and Robyn again)
Erdrick: Ooh! Ooh! I know I got one this time!
*Erdrick reels in his catch only to be another boot.*
Erdrick: Gods dammit!  *tosses it beside the other boot*
(With Lucina and Dark Pit)
*The two are sitting in silence together*
Lucina: Hey, DP, you want some? *holds up a bag of chocolate covered peanuts*
Dark Pit: Sure, hand 'em over.
*Lucina gives DP some*
-
Confessional
Dark Pit: I appreciate Lucina. She's knows that sometimes people just don't want to talk.
-
*Lucina suddenly gets a bite on her line*
Lucina: Shit! It's a big one! *Lucina does her best to reel in the catch. Dark Pit comes up behind her and helps her haul up on the line* Almost! There!
*The catch finally breeches the surface and they see that they have hooked a massive shark. All three simply stare at each other for a long moment before Dark Pit slowly reaches forward and cuts the line. The shark disappears beneath the waves and Lucina slowly puts down her line, curling into a ball*
(With Peach, Zelda, and Pit's boat)
*Peach, Zelda, and Pit have carefully followed Link and Bonny Janet as they've fished up a small pile of their prey to distribute to their team.*
Peach: Okay Zelda, now's your chance. Drive the wedge! Drive it!
*Zelda looks reluctnant but nods*
Peach: And Pit. I need you to sneak over and steal all those fish while they're distracted!
-
Confessional
Peach: I hated to drive Zelda and Pit like that, but I need this prize money! Bowser's conctant kidnapping of me, destroying my kingdom over and over, and the subsequent repairs and reparations have left the royal coffers practically empty! The Mushroom Kingdom needs the financial boost.
-
Confessional
Pit: I'm not sure I like how Peach is running this alliance. I want to win too, but Link and Bonny seem to be finally making friends. I know I'm not very smart, that's why I let Peach and Zelda call most of the shots... but I don't know about this.
-
Zelda: Oh, Link! You're real good at this!
Link: Thanks Zelda! It's good to know we're still friends even though we're on different teams
Zelda, looking even more guilty now, continues: You probably could have caught more if Bonny had contributed more.
Bonny Janet: Oi! Where do ya get oof ya pastel pint! Ah've helped more than ye've helped yer team!
Link: Hey! Lay off Zelda! She's not used to doing stuff like this.
Bonny Janet: Ooo ya! She joost sits in 'er castle 'an let's folk like ye do all the werk! Didn' know ye were soocha  doormat Elfy!
Link: Zelda's done lots to help Hyrule! And I'm not a doormat.
Bonny Janet: Soonds lake soomethin' a doormat would say!
*As they argue neither notice Pit surfacing from the water beside their boat*
Red: Hey!
*Bonny and Link turn to see that Red and Leaf have come up near them*
Leaf: Both of you, cut it out! You're on the same team! You can tear each other apart AFTER we win. You're teammates aren't you? Act like it!
*Both Link and Bonny shift uncomfortably*
Bonny: Aye. Ah' suppose ah' woos a wee bit harsh.
Link: And I think I spoke rashly.
Bonny: Aye... peace? *she offers her hand*
Link: Yeah, pea- HEY!
*Both turn and see Pit swimming away with their catch*
Bonny Janet: YOU DIRTY THIEF!
Link: Dammit!
Red: Sorry guys.
Bonny Janet: Oi! Elfy! Can ye catch more?!
Link, frowning: I don't know... maybe?
*Peach, meanwhile, grabs her team's bucket of bait, a load of chum, and hurls it into the water around Link and Bonny's boat*
Link: Oooh, that's not good.
*Instantly over a dozen sharks surface around them with evil grins on their faces*
(With Erdrick and Robyn)
Erdrick: Oh boy! Finally!
Robyn: If it's another damn boot.
Erdrick: No way! It's way too big to be a boot! *Begins to reel it in* We're... guaranteed... to win! *Erdrick hauls up his catch... only to find it a massive crate full of boots*
Robyn: I don't know why I expected any different.
*A massive whistle suddenly sounds out and they all turn to see Ganondorf on the shore*
Ganondorf: And that's it kiddies! Time's up!
Corrine: Time's up! But you- You- uggh. I'm not even going to bother.
Ganondorf: Good call! Now haul in and let's see what you've caught!
--------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------
*The Campers are all assembled. The Koopas all hold fish distributed to them by Peach's team's ill gotten gains. Link and Bonny, bruised and beaten from their shark attack, glare at the three offenders. Pit and Zelda look down guiltily.*
Ganondorf: What a fishing trip that was! Way better than I thought it was gonna be.
Red: Yeah. *Glaring daggers at Peach and company* A lot more theivery than I expected too.
Ganondorf: True, but not against the rules. *Ganondorf takes in the teams* Now, only Marth and Joker managed to bring in a fish... but it's the biggest one! Goombas take this one!
*There's a bit of shocked silence before the Goombas start cheering and the Koopas look on in shock and anger*
Peach: But! B-but-
Ganondorf: If you'll recall, I said only that the team “with the biggest fish wins”. Not how many. Quality over quantity.
Bonny Janet: Boo yeah!
Link: Hell yeah! *the two high five each other*
Ganondorf: That mean that the Goombas will have the advantage in part two of today's challenge. We'll be right back with the exciting conclusion of Episode 2... of Total, Drama, Smash Bros!

Super Caballeros Rewritten Ch.6
Panchito and Jose then proceeded to enter the road which, according to their map given to them by Professor Gyro, should lead them to the Darklands. It was almost nightfall and they decided it would be best to make camp by a huge tree that overlooked a small stream.
"Good thing I was born with magic abilities." Jose then use his hand and suddenly, the fish pole appears and he then went to explore the small stream in the pursuit of trying to catch fish.
Panchito decided to pitch the tent that’s made out of leaves. He then took out the picture of Boy Princess Donald that Scrooge handed to him during the briefing of their mission. The rooster couldn't believe that such a brute could ever get his hands on this wonderful creature. "He's so beautiful," thought Panchito. "If I could save him, if I could defeat the one they call Zeus, big would he even accept me as a friend? A boy like that has to be real shallow considering that there were no love interests showing up at his door to escort him dates or whatever they do in this Kingdom." Panchito then placed the photo back with all the briefing documents, grabbed his fishing pole, and decided to join his boyfriend at the stream.
"Mi amour. Any luck?" Panchito asked, sitting a few feet away from Jose, kiss his beak and proceeded to start fishing.
"Nope. fish aren't biting today." Jose replied, getting a little frustrated.
"Well. Let me show you eh Jose." Panchito said giving his lover a wink as he reeled in his first fish. "See it's that easy." Panchito chuckled to himself on how lucky he got getting a fish on his first try, while Jose just got annoyed from Panchito's lucky attempt. "So… Jose, can your magic turn people back from stones? I mean. You have so many magic abilities in you but can you undo the evil spell? And also, what do you think of this mission?"
"Panchito," replied Jose casting out his fishing reel further into the stream. "I don’t know if my magic can break the evil spell. His magic is different than mine. We don’t know how powerful he is. And to what do I think of this mission? Well, we have to defeat King Zeus, save a lovely boy princess, and be back in New Tenderfeet City. Why did you ask?”
"I don't know Jose," said Panchito getting a little tense. "I think we can have a fresh start here. You know what I mean? I mean there has to be more than just saving boy princess here and then leaving."
"You like Boy Princess Donald that much huh?" asked Jose completely starting his boyfriend.
"I-I…m-mean yes. Could you blame me though, he's a beautiful creature we have never seen before. One of a kind. His personality has a lot to be desired, but I won't know until the end. You can't tell me you didn't feel the same way about him too, right?" Panchito asked trying to put Jose on the spot now.
"Y-yes." Jose said completely blushing now from revealing this fact. "And beside, maybe he’s interested in polyamory relationship.” The red plumber rooster said as he winked at his green parrot boyfriend.
“But come on Panchito, we're only plumbers. He’s royalty and he is after the guys on top not the bottom dwellers. Furthermore I thi-. Uh Panchito we got company." Jose pointed at the tree to about three gangs.
One of them is tall and muscular physique, the other is very skinny, and the last one is ironically, and short. They are all wearing brown shirts, light orange pants, brown pants, and a broken mask that is shaped like a mushroom with big black eyebrows.
"Alright boys," said one of them who is the short one, rummaging through the brother's supplies. "Destroy anything that might lead to them to the Darklands. We can't have Zeus's plan foiled."
Panchito and Jose ran to the top of the tree where they spotted the battalion of troops. "Hold it right there you scum." Panchito shouted getting ready to fight. "Don't you wanna play tag?"
"What is this tag you speak of?" asked the skinny, confused at the weird game that was popular in the real world.
"It's a game where I tag you," replied Jose as he jumped on the macular one head and sent him a bad headaches. "And YOU'RE IT!"
"Enough games!" commanded one of them. "Finish them off."
They all charged at Panchito and Jose which made them dodge left and right in succession of each attack. Without a hint of exhaustion, the brothers jumped on each of their heads in succession, giving them unconscious, leaving the shorter one left.
"Try to dodge this you insolent." He said as he proceeded to ram the Birds Plumbers in 5 different directions. Panchito and Jose carefully timed their jumps.
"King Zeus will hear about this." The skinny one said as he pulled out a communication device to warn the other soldiers back in the Darklands.
"Send this message to Zeus for us then," said Panchito as he grabbed the collar and they give him a deathly glare. "Tell him when we come for him, he'll be turtle soup when it's all said and done. Jose, you can have the honor."
"With pleasure Panchito." Jose replies as he jumped on his back and he then hit the other two and send them flying into the river as they float away. "Who knew these three couldn't swim." They chuckled at this remark, but then yawned out of exhaustion from the skirmish.
"Alright Jose," said Panchito yawning again from exhaustion. "Time to get some sleep. We have a long day ahead."
"Wait just give me one second." Said Jose retrieving the fish that they caught from the stream as well as the fishing poles. "I also want to see if these troops have anything of value." Jose looted the pockets of the corpses of the adversaries they were fighting, retrieving about 150 coins, 5 red mushrooms, and 3 flowers and the Mushrooms and the flowers have a face. "Hmm" thought Jose puzzled at the last 2 items he collected. "I wonder what they do."
Panchito take out the book they got from Professor Gyro. “Hm…” Panchito turn the pages, they found what they are looking for. “Well, the red one is call a mushroom.” He said. “According to this book that Professor Gyro had written. It said that Mushroom also known as Subspace Mushrooms, add an additional mark or heart to the life meter, up to a maximum of four. Additionally, the Mushrooms also turn a person back into their Super forms if they are in their Small forms in the same manner as a Super Mushroom or a Small Heart, and the health meter is refilled upon collection. Mushrooms are found only in specific Subspace locations within the stage.” He read.
“But what about this weird flowers one?” Jose hold them as Panchito turn the pages as he found them. “Ah! Huh” Panchito exclaimed. “It said here that the flowers you are holding are certainly called, Fire Flowers.”
“Fire flower?” Jose raise his eyebrows, wondering what is that. “It said here that Fire flowers are a power-up that are obtainable. They can be found inside blocks (mostly ? Blocks) that normally contain Super Mushrooms if a person is already in their Super form (or in any other powered-up form), and obtaining one transforms the person into their Fire form, allowing them to throw fireballs.
“I see now?” Jose finally understood. “But let use them later. We need more powers up so that way. We could use them to help us defeat King Zeus and save the boy princess!” Panchito nodded after as Jose put the flowers always in his pocket. Then, they decided to enter their sleeping days and drift off into their dreams, resting up for the next part in their adventure to save the boy princess.

on this day,  some years ago,
          — they’d all met for the first time.
his fist flew,  only for bowyer to lash out and send him careening a few feet away. the uppercut backfired, and ♡♪!? fell to one knee, arms attempting to brace himself with palms pressed into tree bark. his soul throbbed with searing adrenaline, yet his limbs betrayed him, weakened significantly and wobbling with the strain. try as he could to bring himself to his feet, his body hadn’t the energy yet. he needed a moment to recover, a moment that he did not have. the bug-eyed fiend cackled in that shrill, irritating voice, and he felt sick. this monster had the star piece. he needed it terribly. the star spirits were depending on him, and yet...
      — this was it? this was how he’d die?
Tumblr media
eyes stung, vision blurred, and the world darkened around him, his sense of sight thrown off. his head was ringing and his chest was sore, entire body quivering, breathing staggering. no matter the effort, he found that he couldn’t move. he just could not move.
❝ nyahaha! strong you are —— ❞ he could barely make out a gesture from bowyer. ❝ ——— but STRONGER am i! hurt you, i will! ❞ his body contorted in a way he couldn’t quite comprehend in his poor state. what he did know, however, was that he was about to be attacked, more than likely a finishing blow. he didn’t know if he could take another hit now, not until he got his bearings. he wasn’t going to make it out alive if he didn’t do something, yet his body refused to obey his command to dodge.
     — ❝ so long, nya! part now, we must! nya, nya, NYA! ❞
he finally managed to move, yet it was the most pathetic, instinctive response he’d ever made. ducking beneath his arms for cover, he hoped and prayed that the damage wouldn’t be too significant, that some kind of miracle was going to happen. if he died by any other means, at any other time, such was life... but now? here? he couldn’t perish now. he couldn’t fail. they were counting on him! he wanted to live! he needed to live!
move move move move MOVE  M O V E   M   O   V   E
                   .   .   .
nothing happened, or at least, not to him. the star spirit lifted his head reluctantly, only to witness a man’s shoes descend in front of him. stance defensive and ready for action, this person was itching for battle... and it gave ♡♪!? time for his second wind. he finally managed to stand, albeit with some struggle, expression nothing short of astonished. bowyer seemed quite irked, yet notably surprised, stunned into a brief moment of lull.
this man in red, determined and fierce as the power of the sun... just who was this, and why was he helping him? no, he needn’t get into the semantics. whatever the case, this was an obvious ally, and he wasn’t about to waste this opportunity. too exhausted to manage a smile quite yet, he breathlessly exclaimed, ❝ thanks for the help! but... who are you? ❞
another figure approached from the shrubbery and hopped onto the tree’s stump, just as spry and full of life, even if a little vexed. ❝ mario! ❞ ... mario? ❝ you just... ditched me back there! ❞ where had he heard that name before? he was fully aware of that name, but why? the cloudy short-stack twisted his gaze to his doll body, grumpy frown warping into confusion. ❝ — huh? don’t i know you? you look... familiar! ❞
that’s when it hit him. he remembered this fluffy guy, as well as the red-clothed man. they were in rose town’s inn, and he’d seen his prowess in a mock fight against this doll. he’d been knocked out, as he’d witnessed from the nearby window, and the inn’s keeper had shrieked his name in horror. mario... a name that even the elder star spirits recognized as a jumping, heroic plumber, whose tales of rescuing the mushroom kingdom’s princess had become known across the universe. he hadn’t even realized how his smile had leaped back onto his face with such renewed gusto. no wonder he’d came to his aid!
Tumblr media
❝ so you’re THE mario! ❞ admiration shone in his own eyes, understanding well that this must have been fated somehow. on this day, they... must have been fated to meet. ❝ we know about you! ❞
bowyer’s rage became known, breaking the atmosphere of relief. he complained and bemoaned the presence of three against his one, spewing threats like a cranky child. the three of them found some form of silent understanding in one another, and brows taut, grins confident, they nodded in unison before re-entering the fray.
     — he couldn’t ignore how warm he felt in their presence.
❝ geeeenoooooo! ❞
a child’s voice tears him away from reminiscence. geno’s eyes fly open and he bolts upright with a yelp, glancing at the open door to find gaz jubilantly waving at him. the picture frame lays on his lap, a hand draped protectively over it, a stark contrast from the usual presence of his phone.
❝ o- oh! yeah? ❞
the boy scrambles to his side and climbs onto the mattress, eyes squarely on the photo he’s been holding. eyes are alight with curiosity. ❝ whatcha’ doin’? what’s that? ❞
what is he doing? what is that? it takes him a second to snap fully back into reality, and he pulls the frame back, reminding himself of what he’d been so focused on. the picture displays him surrounded by his friends so long ago. bowser kept an awkward stare peach’s way, with her reciprocation being a stern glare, yet he, mallow, and mario were joyful. he remembers when that picture had been taken, where it had been taken, why it had been taken... and it causes him to break out into a fond grin.
❝ ... today is the day we first met. remember? ❞
quizzically, gaz’s eyes switch between the photo and geno’s mellowed gaze. ❝ nuh-uh. we met when mom got you on christmas. she got you from the store with the guy with the beard. ❞
ah. that’s right. it’s the day that they first met, yes, but... gaz didn’t know. he still hadn’t told him. mind travels to a conversation with the mother of the cosmos, her insistence that geno should open up to him ringing strong in his memory. lids grow heavy, and mouth twists with obvious hesitance. he really should tell him, and yet... he can’t help but fear that he will break his heart, tear it into shreds. it only takes a small moment of rumination before gaz pipes up again.
❝ geno? don’tcha remember? ❞
geno’s heart drops. he can’t lie to that inquisitive, sweet little face. the bandage has to be ripped off. he can’t hide this anymore. ❝ ... no, ❞ comes his soft response, with fragility as though the little boy is made of glass. ❝ i don’t... because i wasn’t here. ❞
the exaggerated tilt of the head gaz gives him is simply adorable. ❝ was, too! we got you on christmas, and you were in the wrapping paper with the white bow. it was, it was back when we got that big tree with the popcorns. ❞
❝ you aren’t wrong. you got the doll then, but i wasn’t there. ❞
initially, gaz seems incapable of response, absolutely befuddled. ❝ but... but, no. ❞
he has to explain now. there’s no backing out of this. with a deep breath, geno insistently gathers the kid into his arms, settling him onto his lap like cradling his own little brother. surely, he’d taken note of geno’s expression, for concern mirrors the fear etched into his face.
❝ gaz, i’m not a doll. you had the doll for a long time, but i only came to the doll later. my name... technically isn’t even geno. ❞ his jaw grows stiff, as if refusing to allow him to speak any further, but he persists. ❝ remember that day after you played with mario? i grew up and left for the forest. that’s when i became the doll. i had to save star road and save everyone’s wishes... because i’m a star from above. i’m just using the doll as my... body, so to speak. ❞ crestfallen and expecting the worst, geno hastily, tenderly adds to his confession, ❝ i’m so sorry that i took so long to tell you. ❞
at first, gaz’s expression is unreadable. he isn’t sure if he’s devastated or just impressed. never before had he been so terrified, the idea of breaking this child’s heart being nightmarish.
another moment crosses. geno can only imagine his world must be falling apart at the seams.
suddenly, however, he just launches into questions. his voice is stable and steady, not a hint of sadness to be found in his tone. ❝ does that mean you can fly? can you read minds like a superhero? you grant wishes and stuff then, right? did you get me that birthday cake when i was five? didja’ get me the teddy bear? didja’ know i wanted friends? did you grant that wish? do you grant all of my wishes? do you grant mom’s wishes, too? do you turn into comets? are you friends with, with planets and stuff? is your mom a planet? is she a star? ❞
Tumblr media
oh. well, this isn’t what he expected.
❝ h-hey! one at a time! ❞ his laugh blurts out without his doing, a habitual response. ❝ what were you asking about wishes? let’s start with that. ❞
gaz is just a bundle of questions from there once again. however, it is taken at a gradual pace. geno answers each one with infinite patience. no, while he’s in the doll, he isn’t capable of flying. he can’t read minds or shoot lasers out of his eyes like a superhero, but he can shoot things out of his arms. he grants wishes, and he may have granted all of gaz’s in the past, as well as his mother’s. he doesn’t turn into a comet and he isn’t friends with planets. his mother is not a star, but, as he simply puts it, ‘an angel’. when they come to the last question, the boy’s face lights right up, and the relief geno feels in return is impalpable.
❝ does that mean you came here ‘cause i was wishing for a friend? ❞
it’s so honest and raw, tragically so. his own eyes grow misty, and his chuckle in response is marred by wetness. he’d been such a lonely child... yet he gained a friend in the form of a visitor from the sky. it’s a poignant reminder that almost every child doesn’t receive that sort of miracle, but gaz had been the sole recipient of such fortune.
❝ yeah. i came here because i wanted to stay here. i had to go away for a while, but i came back, didn’t i? ❞ he hugs the boy close, and gaz clings to him like a lifeline. ❝ i always watched over you from the stars, gaz. i always will. even if i’m not inside the doll, i’ll always be here. okay? ❞
the sprightly reply he receives makes it agonizingly hard not to cry. ❝ i know! ❞ he squirms and nuzzles the mushroom top of his head against geno’s cheek, proclaiming, ❝ love you, geno! ❞
Tumblr media
he holds gaz and the photo tight. he is absolutely dizzy with affection, like he’s about to explode. the weight on his shoulders is lifted, and they both couldn’t possibly be any better for it than they are now.
❝ love you, too, little guy. ❞
...
...
...
❝ uh, ❞ comes gaz’s meek voice. ❝ can i wish for chicken tendies for lunch? ❞

The Koopa, The Dad, & The Better
This writing is inspired from/based on “https://duckapus.tumblr.com/post/184704406530/i-want-bowser-to-punch-gabriel-agreste-in-the-face by @duckapus“. It’s also a not-exactly-sequel to my post “https://thebigpapilio.tumblr.com/post/175002411360/mario-fans-heres-a-thought”.
Bowser had been monstrous, forceful, and many other things he would spend his life atoning for, but he was by no means a bad father. The Koopalings - quite young at the time - were entrusted to him by their blood father should they fall in battle. The previous Boom Boom had been loyal and a great ally of the Koopa royal lineage, so when the sad day came that he fell - thankfully long before Mario, or things would be a lot worse between the plumber and his adopted kids - Bowser was more than willing to take the mantle. Bowser took as good care of them as he could, and Kamek helped him through the whole family’s issues. Even when Junior was born, Kamek was there for all of them.
Bowser had been angry his father magically forced Kamek to hide the truth of the racism that started the generational war between the Koopa & Mushroom Kingdoms with a silencing spell, he knew it was not Kamek’s fault and forgave him. After learning the truth, Bowser swore to fix his father’s mistakes, and it was not much later that a peace treaty resumed, complete with Peach’s also-restricted memories being restored.
It also helped him move on from the then-princess, which was good, because when he had arrived to offer peace, he’d just missed Mario proposing.
After fixing up everything, Peach saw fit for Bowser to be invited to the wedding, though Mario had still been suspicious of him.
Nevertheless, despite Bowser’s newly-attained and seemingly-infinite patience, there had been - and there still would be - plenty of times in Bowser’s life when he became especially angry.
When he was taken away from his childhood best friend Peach? Mostly confused, but still angry.
When he first lost to Mario, followed by an uncounted amount of repeated results? He’d been furious, and with each time he returned from a fight in great pain, he found less and less things more aggravating than so much as the thought of that provocative plumber.
When memories of his father and why he “hated” the Mushroom Kingdom returned to him? Bowser thought he couldn’t be angrier.
But after he stepped into that portal disguised as a human, Bowser found himself to be wrong.
It had started when he’d saved the kid from collateral damage caused by one of those… what was it, akumas? To his horror, he learned this was a regular occurrence in the city from the boy (Adrien, Bowser, his name is Adrien) in a tone more surprised that he didn’t know. That was fair, but the tone should have been a red flag that something was wrong. Later, he watched the boy’s ride show up at his school while walking by, and his heart broke watching how fast Adrien’s face fell.
It got worse when he started sending in spies. They returned with information of his dad and secretary being incredibly inconsiderate of Adrien and what he wanted, telling him what he was going to do as if he had no choice, and even when he did them, he was treated like a rebellious teen. Apparently, it was so bad the kid had fought to go to the public school. Junior didn’t mind being tutored, but Bowser still knew that even if his kids hadn’t wanted to do evil like they had done, the Koopa King would still be supportive of him and his siblings.
Bowser had been about to lose his temper for the first time in what may have been a record-breaking drought when a Paratroopa returned with urgent news. When Bowser learned about the correlation behind the two pitiful excuses for “adults” and the reason behind the villains, he knew something had to be done.
He couldn’t do it alone, however - he had to do things more quietly than an invasion could, and while he was incredibly strong, he would be outnumbered, and he was especially bad against smaller & faster opponents, if Mario and Luigi (he’d finally remembered to not address the younger hero as Green 'Stache) were anything to go by. Plus, he was mad right n-
The Mario Brothers.
Bowser couldn’t think of anyone better to help him then the newly-dubbed Mushroom King and his brother. Luigi and Bowser were on decent terms, but that didn’t seem to be enough for his bro - even when Bowser helped find a way back to the brothers’ home world, Mario still seemed to not trust Bowser, however quiet or loud he was about it. The Koopa King wondered if this plan he was forming would get Mario to fully trust him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mario and Luigi had been suspicious at first at a request for help - as much as Bowser had changed, the Koopa King seldom asked for help, certainly not in the desperate fashion that he had. But Luigi convinced at least get Mario to hear the Koopa King out, and looking back, Mario thought it was a good idea - when Bowser explained the situation, the Mario Brothers would have agreed instantly had Bowser not wanted to explain how bad it was.
Mario had mostly been on guard due to their wedding; he wasn’t exactly of noble stock, and if he were to let his Queen be taken by someone they had known was not always trustworthy, he didn’t know what anyone - least of all him - would think of the new King. But Peach seemed to trust the former enemy after missing memories returned, and Bowser had looked like a husk of himself on that day, so Mario had been too shocked by this new information to really do much at the time.
With the peace between the two Kingdoms, Mario had seldom needed to do any hero work with the Koopa army practically handling all defensive matters for him, so if nothing else, this was an excuse to get some exercise and do good for someone.
Besides, this was a human from a parallel world to he and his brother’s, right? The Mushroom World had ultimately changed their lives for the better, and if this Adrien kid needed it, they would do the same for him.
After conferring with Peach and making a plan, the three fighters were ready to go. Going through the portal made things a bit awkward given the wait and Bowser’s human disguise, but Mario finally started to feel that Bowser was becoming better.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just our luck that there’s an akuma attack going on, Bowser mused.
Looking further at the situation, there appeared were multiple akumas and two new creatures that Bowser assumed to be sentimonsters - Hawkmoth had decided to try Heroes’ Day again, it appeared, but this time he was nowhere to be found, a young, brown-haired girl in the villain’s costume.
In a hidden spot near the battlefield, Bowser murmured to Mario and Luigi to go and help the heroes, saying he needed to save Adrien first. They all wore communicators - Bowser’s on an arm bracer, and the Mario Brothers under their hats. Nodding, they went off to go help, a well-placed fireball knocking Befana off her motorcycle and ultimately ending up purified in Luigi’s arms. Chat Noir - the kid was there, which made Bowser’s job a lot easier - and his friends were caught off guard, but when the brothers started to keep pace, they relaxed and returned to fighting the akumas once more.
Bowser would have loved to join them, but he had bigger fish to fry. Transforming back into his true form, he took off for Gabriel’s mansion.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hawkmoth and Mayura were a bit worried when new heroes stepped in. It was already a taller order than last time due to the reactivated Monkey, Snake, & Horse joining the original five, but they had saved up enough energy to be at least on par with that. When the dynamic duo showed up, however, the villains started to become quite uncomfortable.
On the battlefield, Luigi’s hammer smashed the last akumatized item - Volpina’s necklace. This Lila girl had turned out to be willingly akumatized and working with the villains, and she was promptly taken to the police by an infuriated Carapace and Rena Rouge while the other heroes celebrated.
The brothers’ communicators came on then, their draconid ally’s voice arriving right on time.
“You guys cleaned up yet?”
“Perfect timing, big guy!” Mario said, the two brothers watching as Carapace and Rena Rouge returned.
“Good. Now, tell them to follow you to the big bads’ place, got it?”
With all the up-close fights Bowser and the brothers had, they still forgot sometimes that in the end, he was a born leader and knew how to give commands without being angry. Walking over to the heroes, they introduced themselves as “Fireball” and “Green Thunder,” and told the heroes not only that that they’d been doing detective work about Hawkmoth’s identity but that they’d tracked him down, with someone holding personal quarrel with the villain already confronting him.
Ladybug would have spoken first, but she was interrupted by the sound of glass shattering from a while away.
“That’s our cue, then…” Green Thunder smiled. Gesturing in the direction of the sound, he continued, “...care to follow us there?”
You would have thought their heads would fly off their necks with how fast they nodded.
Meanwhile, Hawkmoth and Mayura caught their breaths after dodging the shards of glass sent their way. When they looked up, their breaths were caught once more as they took in the appearance of the cross-looking creature whose glare that screamed you are in for the beatdown of your life. Fortunately for Mayura, she could see that the glare was mostly trained on her boss. Unfortunately for her, it was only mostly.
“Hawkmoth and Nathalie Sancoeur,” he uttered, and the two in question froze up in not only shock at this creature’s ability to speak so clearly and the fact he appeared to know Mayura’s identity but confusion, because this beast referred to Gabriel as Hawkmoth, even though at this point there was no conceivable reason this monster did not know that Gabriel was Hawkmoth.
“I have some words for you.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“You may never have heard of me, given the differences of our origins, so let me tell you just who you’re messing with.”
Slowly stomping towards them, he proceeded to do just so. “I am King Bowser Koopa, ruler of Dark Land and former villain. I’m the ex-scourge of the Mushroom Kingdom and the first of the Seven Star Children. I was known as the Final Boss, the Destroyer of the Dark Star, and old enemies-turned-friends once called me la tartaruga mortale - the death turtle."
To himself, Bowser thanked Luigi and Mario for teaching him Italian, because someone needed to know it other than those two if the brothers went evil.
"I did a lot of evil things in my career as a villain - I’ve conquered galaxies simply because they stood in my way.”
“I could raze you and this whole mansion to the ground right now if I wanted,” he roared, clearly putting fear into the two villains, “but I won’t. You wanna know why?”
At their somewhat-frantic nods, any amusement on his face said goodbye.
“Because there’s a kid in this place.”
At their slight confusion, he scowled. At this point he stood over the floored duo.
“The title I hold more dearly to me than any of the ones I just named is Dad. I have eight wonderful children, and every day of my life I do my best to make sure they want for nothing, least of all my attention. ”
At that point he snatched Mayura’s brooch faster than either of them could react, leaving a stunned Nathalie Sancoeur in her place. Looking back for a second, he noticed the other heroes had arrived - Red & Green with them. Grinning, he returned to Hawkmoth’s fearful gaze.
“Now I’m not perfect, true, but at least I try. I support my kids, I take time to understand them and their interests, I teach them as best as I can, and even if they hadn’t wanted to follow in my villainous footsteps during that time, I like to think I would have respected that and continued to love them nonetheless.”
His glare hardened even further.
“Too tall an order for you, huh? If you can pretend to be the fashion mogul known as Gabriel Agreste, I think you could easily take time to be a parent to your kid.”
“Why do you keep saying he’s not Hawkmoth?” Chat Noir spoke up from Roi Singe & Ladybug’s grips.
“For what I know, Gabriel Agreste was a kind, caring, and patient guy who liked to do good for others simply for the sake of it. This guy doesn’t fit the description, so he can’t be Hawkmoth, right?”
It was clear that Bowser knew Gabriel was Hawkmoth, but the message he was conveying was clearer - Gabriel had changed, and not for the better.
“You’re using your grief as an excuse to hold your son at arms’ length, but you only take control of him when it’s convenient. If I asked you about his favorite color, or his friends’, or what he wants to do with his life if he could choose, or even what he thinks of the “designer clothes” you stick him in, how much could you really tell me?”
At this, Hawkmoth was silent. Bowser let out an angry snort, then finished his tirade.
“I’m not gonna go too far on your failing attempts at villainy. You’re a faulty & foolish failure as a villain and a parent, and as I said earlier, if it wasn’t for the kid, you’d be burned to a crisp and stomped into a paste - not to mention scum like you aren’t worth the effort.”
He picked up the main villain, dropped him on his two feet, and with a growl of “Get bent.” he walloped him into the wall with a single punch.
Hawkmoth would wake up after about a week and a half in the hospital, having changed from purple to white. A change to orange would follow soon after.
But for now, Bowser would turn around to face the other heroes. He would help get the detransformed shell of Gabriel to the police and hospital, and after taking the Black Cat wielder aside, he gave him a small remote-like item he’d packed that let him and anyone he wanted - other than Hawkmoth and Nathalie - come to the Koopa Kingdom if he wanted or needed to.
Bowser sometimes felt the repercussions of his past villainy too strongly. But whenever he remembered that day - especially punching Hawkmoth in the face - he felt a lot better about himself.

Movie Night || Secret Santa Gift
SKZ X AYESHA || WORDS: 2010 ||
This is my gift to @fantasymirror I’m your Secret Santa <3 Enjoy this movie party with Skz! I hope you like it <3 <3 <3 also like come talk to me sometime you’re pretty cool
Ayesha paced back and forth in the small walkway between the wall and her couch. She was waiting for her friends to come over, it was her turn to host the movie night and her turn to pick the movie. She was nervous. Not that she couldn’t be entertaining. She knows these guys like the back of her hands. She knows what makes them laugh, what makes them cry. She was nervous that they would wreck the place. She just moved in, and she doesn't want a complaint on her during her first week in her new apartment. “Ayesha! Open up! The ice cream's gonna melt!” Chan yelled as he pounded on the door. Hearing his voice made her feel at ease, these are her friends if something goes wrong they won't be mad, they’ll laugh it off. If they break something, they’ll pick it up and apologize profusely. “Coming! Stop banging!” Ayesha responded as she made her way across her apartment. It was small but cozy. To the left was the kitchen small, and dimly lit. Ayesha's bedroom was off of the living room with the only bathroom attached just after the door. The living room was about the size of a small corner store with long windows viewing the park across the street. Beige curtains covered them now, a sign of the late hours. Ayesha opened the front door and nine boys crammed their way into the room. “Well, you should've been faster next time,” Chan said setting the ice cream on the counter and walking away. “Well, you should’ve given me a heads up, I didn’t know there was ice cream,” “We got chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, mint chocolate chip, coffee, black cherry, rocky road, you name it we got it,” Minho said taking them out and placing them on the counter. “Baskin Robbins Chocolate Mousse Royale?” Ayesha asked. It’s her favorite kind and the boys better know that by now, how could they not? “GOT IT” Jisung shouted holding it up for her to see. The classic print on the ice cream carton visible through the white plastic bag made Ayesha smile. Changbin began putting the ice cream in bowls for them to enjoy. Once he was done he placed them in the freezer and walked over to the small huddle that had grown next to the couch. “So what movie are we watching tonight, lovely Ayesha?” Hyunjin asked placing his arm around Ayesha’s shoulders. “Since it's Christmas season I figured I’d choose a classic. Scream, no I’m kidding. Wolf Children!” She said hiding the blush that made its way onto her cheeks. ”Oh, I’ve heard of that movie! I haven’t watched it, but I’ve heard great things.” Jeongin said. “It’s good, and I like it! I hope you guys do too!” “Isn’t it like an anime or something?” Changbin asked, removing Hyunjin’s arm from Ayesha and putting it over his shoulder. “Yea, it’s a Studio Ghibli Movie,” Jeongin answered before Ayesha could open her mouth. “Oh, those are always good,” Chan commented from the couch. Felix brought a bag in from the hall and set it on the counter. He looked for the microwave. Once he located it, he began searching through cabinets until he found two large bowls. “I’ll make us some popcorn, how many bags should I do?” Felix asked. “There's ten of us, so I say four bags, two bags for each bowl?” Chan said. “Ay Ay Captain,” Felix said saluting him. “Okay, now, blankets. Where are they? We need to build a fort.” Woojin said. “Blankets are in my bedroom,” “I’ll get em!” Jisung said grabbing Minho and taking off down the small hallway. Woojin following after them. “Okay,” Ayesha whispered half to her self, trying to get her mind wrapped around what else needed to | before they could start this movie. “So how’re we watching this? You got a CD or is it online?” Chan asked. “I got a CD, it should be in the case on the stand below the TV,” She said to Chan, he moved quickly to the TV. “Got it!” He announced then placed the CD inside the CD Player and pressed to play to start the movie. He went back to his seat on the couch. “The first bowl of popcorn is done!” Felix said from the kitchen. “Jeongin grab that and put it on the coffee table? Please?” Ayesha asked him. Jeongin grabbed the bowl and placed it on the coffee table, then he moved the coffee table out of the way and sat down putting the bowl in his lap. “What?” he asked upon seeing the stare Ayesha was giving him, “There's not enough room on the couch, so most of us will be here anyway,” he stated eating the popcorn. “I got the blankets! Where am I putting them?” Woojin asked walking back in, dragging Minho and Jisung on a blanket while they held the rest. “If my blanket rips I’m going to be upset. Ayesha pouted, the two of them got off. “You’re the one that had the plans for the fort,” Minho said to him. Woojin sighed and began draping the blankets across the back of the couch. He pushed Jeongin out of his way and placed the biggest, thickest sheet on the ground to make those that sit on the floor more comfortable. He stared at his work before he sighed again and sat down, taking the second bowl of popcorn from Felix and shoving a handful in his mouth. “Dibs on cuddling with Ayesha!” Jeongin shouted standing up. Hyunjin moved from his spot, standing near the island that separated the living room and the kitchen, to push Jeongin out of his way. “No fair I called that on the way here!” He shouted. “Too slow!” Chan sang as he pulled Ayesha on the couch next to him. “Shush, the movies gonna start!” Minho said to the group and threw popcorn at them. Hyunjin settled on the floor with Seungmin. Jeongin passed out everyone’s ice cream, after scarfing his down, then laid across the end of the couch with his head in Chan’s lap.
Empty bowls of ice cream sat discarded across the floor. The only ones left awake sat staring at the TV. They finished the movie and now pondered what they could do next. “That was good, but now more than half of us are asleep. Plus its so much work to wake them up” Hyunjin said gently removing Seungmin’s head from his shoulder and sitting up. “We could play a game while we let them rest, you don’t mind us sleeping over here do you, Ayesha?” Chan asked rubbing his eyes. “No problem! I love it when you guys come over. It’s a sleep-over!” Ayesha said happily, careful to keep her voice down. “Now the only question is what game?” Jeongin asked. “Do you have any board games?” Hyunjin asked, getting excited. “I don’t think so. I haven’t needed one before now,” Ayesha said. “What about video games? Didn’t you mention Mario Cart once before?” Chan asked. Ayesha forgot about the conversation they had. She almost forgot she even had the game. “Yea, I do have Mario Cart! I got it a couple of months ago, but I had no one to play with me. I’ll go grab the game and controllers.” She exclaimed. Ayesha raced down the hall and came back carrying a box. “I’m old school, it’s on the Wii,” she said placing it on the floor at the end of Hyunjin’s feet. “I didn’t know you had a Wii U,” Jeongin said trying to get a look at the box from the couch. “I don’t. It’s just the Wii. No U, I told you I’m old school.” She took out the Wii and began setting it up. She put the sensor in the middle of the TV stand and turned back to the box. “Pass me a controller,” Chan said. Ayesha handed him two, one for him and one for Jeongin. “I call dibs on Bowser!” Hyunjin said taking a controller from the box. “Do what you want the real winner will be me with Peach, just letting you know, don’t get your hopes up,” Jeongin said, he stuck his tongue out at Hyunjin and laughed cutely. “In your dreams boys, I will be the only victor here,” Ayesha said, her words silenced the boys as she started up the Wii, selecting the small screen at the top left corner with Mario Cart inside of it. They all selected their characters and carts. Ayesha put the map on random and started. She sat back down on the couch next to Chan. The game began with a countdown, Ayesha held down A when the countdown got to 2. She boosted along with Chan, whom she is now battling against for 1st place. “Okay, how did you guys get that boost?” Hyunjin asked. “You gotta hold down A,” Chan answered. Ayesha was too focused on throwing a red shell at Chan she didn’t even notice the banana peel he threw behind him. She mentally cursed at herself. “Really? I’ll have to try that in the next match.” Hyunjin spoke, his words disconnected as he danced around the map, his cart being attacked non-stop from Jeongin in front of him. Ayesha and Chan surpassed each other multiple times, fighting for first place. During the last lap, they rounded the corner, a close game. Jeongin came out of nowhere. He passed them both. The two were left speechless as Jeongin cheered for himself. The next game starts on yet another random map, the countdown began. Ayesha saw Hyunjin hold down A and she laughed, he started too early. He spun out before he could move forward. “Hey what was that!” He exclaimed. Chan and Ayesha laughed, they didn’t respond to him. This game they’re too focused on keeping an eye on Jeongin. They both refuse to let him beat them, again. The first two laps were the same as last game, Chan and Ayesha competing for first, Hyunjin in the back and Jeongin quietly plotting his win. As they approached the finish line to start the third lap, Chan got red shelled by the NPC behind him, a Mario. Ayesha managed to be in first the majority of the third lap until Chan caught up, thanks to three mushrooms.  Ayesha hoped to win, but every time she hit a box she got a coin, even a speed boost would help more than a coin! “Ayesha! I can help you!” Jeongin said as Chan passed her. Him now a turn ahead of her. They were nearing the finish line. Jeongin had a blue shell. He waited until he made eye contact with Ayesha then he used it, and Ayesha saw it flying through the minimap. Seconds later she heard “Damn it,” escape Chan’s mouth. She knew it got him, Ayesha was able to speed past him and win. Ayesha jumped up and did a cute victory dance, then stuck her tongue out at Chan, who stuck his back out to her. “All right, I think it’s time we all go to sleep,” Chan said. Ayesha heard Jeongin whisper something about Chan being a sore loser and giggled. “Okay well then, goodnight,” Ayesha said hugging the boys. She went to the bathroom and did her night time routine. After she got all settled in bed Jeongin came running into the bedroom, wrapped in a blanket of his own. He jumped, throwing himself across Ayesha on her bed. The sudden weight hurt her but nothing too serious. “You said it was a sleepover and it’s not a sleepover unless the favorite friend shares the bed with the host!” His explanation muffled by the pillow he slammed into his face. “Okay you nut, just go to sleep.” Ayesha laughed, she lightly hit him then turned the light off. Once she was comfortable in her blankets, and Jeongin had managed to get himself comfortable beside her, she drifted off to a peaceful slumber-ish.

*SPOILERS FOR THE GAME SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY WILL BE TALKED ABOUT IN THIS POST*
First off, I’d like to say that this game will always have sentimental value for me.  It’s the last game that I got from my grandmother who passed away about 3 years ago.  I  used the last gift card she gave me for Christmas a few years ago.  She had passed away around Christmas time 2015 and I just couldn’t bring myself to spend it.  It wasn’t much, but I wanted to spend it on something that would be worth it.  The card was going to expire and Super Mario Odyessy went on sale a few months ago.  It might not have covered the full cost of the game, but enough for me to want to purchase this.  So, thank you for the game, Nana.
This has to be the best Mario game I’ve played in a while.  Maybe even ever.  Everything just feels so right with the game.  The look and feel of Super Mario Odyessy is beautiful.  The controls of the game are great and responsive.  The music is some of the best that I’ve heard.  If there was a game that just felt right, it would be this one.  There is not much that I find about this game that is negative.
It’s your basic Mario story.  Princess Peach is captured and Mario must save her from Bowser.   Same Mario rescue princess story since 1985.  I’m not disappointed, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.  A simple premise that will always worked and will continue to work for the series.  Even if it’s the most made fun of story cliché.  However, the ending I found has a bizarre twist that I’ll get into later.
There are no power ups in the game.  No super mushrooms, fire flowers, tanooki leaf, 1-up mushrooms, nothing.  Your only ability is Mario’s athleticism and a hat. After Bowser beats you and destroys Mario’s iconic red M hat at the start of the game, you meet a sentient hat creature called Cappy.  Bowser kidnapped his sister named Tiara to be used as Peach’s wedding dress, umm, Tiara.  (It’s weird to say when you type or say it but it’s a Mario game)  Mario meets Cappy in the Cap Kingdom, the game’s first level.  Cappy joins Mario to help with the rescue.  Cappy provides Mario with the ability to possess certain enemies and objects.  You need to do this in order to advance in the game and collect certain power moons.
You will always remember your first power moon
Stars (and shine sprites) from the prior Mario games have been replaced with Power Moons.  It’s not a big deal to me.  The only oddity is when you face certain mini bosses or bosses you collect a tri moon.  Three moons for the price of one.  Just seems like a way to signal a level midpoint or an end of the level.  There are 880 moons to collect.  Once you achieve this, the sail on the Odyssey becomes gold.  So far I have collected 595 moons.  Some of them ranged from really simple to why am I still trying to get this, it’s freaking impossible.  I have two videos below of easy (On top of the rubble) and hard power moon (On the North Pillar) as examples.
What’s really good is that once you get a power moon, you can continue the level from where you left off and not go back to the beginning of the level.  There is no main hub besides The Odyssey ship you and Cappy travel on to go between worlds.  At the time of this post, I’m trying to complete the darker side moon challenge, Long Journey’s End.  It’s a no checkpoint long level like Champion Road from Super Mario 3D World and the daredevil comet challenge of Grandmaster Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy.  It is one of the hardest challenges of the game.  Thought, not as hard as the two I listed from the prior games.  But I have yet to beat the final challenge in the game.
There is no 1-up mushrooms.  Instead, when you fail, you get 10 coins taken away.  When you run out of coins, fail or are defeated you just stay a zero coins.  No more game overs or extra lives, just failed attempts and lost coins.  It’s interesting to think about how outdated an extra life can seem for most platform games, particularly Mario games.  If you got a game over in Super Mario 64  you can begin with all of the starts you currently collected.  Even going back to Super Mario World, the game had a save feature that let you continue where you left off even after a game over.  The game focuses on coins a lot more in this game than prior games.  100 gold coins used to equal an extra life, but now you can collect coins and use them to buy certain outfits that Mario can wear.  Some can even get you certain power moons if you wear them in the right instance.

They don’t add any other benefits to Mario aside from some different conversations from non playable characters in each world.  Each level also has either 50 or 100 purple coins for you to collect. These coins can unlock outfits specific to each area. You can also purchase souvenirs and decals specific to each area as well with the purple coins.

A kind of good thing that you can do is buy power moons from the store with gold coins. There is no limit to how many that moons that you can buy and the maximum The Odyssey ship counter can hold is 999 moons. It’s a way for people who are struggling with finding power moons to view another type of ending viewed at the Mushroom Kingdom.  It also takes out that help mode that some Mario games had where if you fail a level a certain amount of times, the game will beat the level for you or give you an invincibility suit for you to beat the level.
The worlds and the inhabitants are mostly background filler.  I couldn’t even remember what the inhabitants were called.  (For example, I called the inhabitants of the forks in the Luncheon kingdom the flingy forks).  We do have new characters, like the Broodals, mostly a mid boss group of rabbit baddys who help Bowser with gathering the wedding materials from each kingdom.  We even Pauline, from the Donkey Kong arcade games makes an appearance as the Mayor of New Donk City.  She’s not in any trouble, other than New Done City under siege from Bowser and ask Mario for help.  It’s a nice touch to expand the mushroom kingdom universe, if they can only add characters like Donkey or Diddy Kong in the next Mario platform game.  I’d like to see that

I love how this game looks. The design of the levels and style of the outfits all match a world that Mario can live in and wear.  Even the Metro Kingdom, when Mario runs and jumps around in the city, it feels natural. Even Mario is a lot shorter than most of the human inhabitants.  To me in a way, looks like how a cartoon character would walk or move around in the real world. (Kind of like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the way toons interacted with that world.) The music is some of the best that I’ve heard in a Mario game.  From the serene music of the lake and moon kingdom the jazzy music of Metro Kingdom, it’s one soundtrack I’d like to have.
When you load the game, you get this suggestion screen for controls.
Though not mandatory you can use the joy con controllers for motion controls detached from the grip, on the joy con grip, or the pro controller. I find that the best controller setup to be the joy con controller. There might be one or two instances that motion controls have an advantage, like with Mario rolling around or some of his cap throws but the pro control setup is just fine is getting the power moons as much as I struggle.
As complete as the game is, it does has some DLC. Luigi’s balloon world is a hide and seek type game where you either look or a balloon or hide a balloon for others to find. It’s more a distraction rather than an actual add-on to the game DLC.  Nintendo also released more outfits for Mario to wear and spend with coins. It’s not anything special, but it is free.
My last takeaway is the ending. After Mario saves Peach, Bowser stills tries to win her over and Mario does as well. She rejects both of them and heads or the Odyssey. She finally calls for Mario to board the ship as it takes off. It’s such a bizarre and twisted ending to me, but I kind of liked looking into that ending.  Not Peach rejecting both Mario and Bowser, but Bowser on blended knee trying to win Peach back after kidnapping her and forcing her to marry him.  People say Peach might have Stockholm syndrome, but Bowser looks like he can’t get over her. It can be viewed as, kind of abusive relationship Peach and him share.  He captures her, forces her to marry him, and then begs for him to take her back. It’s just so strange to see this theme in a Mario game.
That’s all I have for this game. Thanks for reading and if you have any thoughts or comments, please let me know.

Vengeance and Ambition
This was supposed to be a full story with Fawful and King Boo being victorious in the end. I was super excited for it because it's my 2 fav Mario villains teaming up and winning. But then it slowly dawned on me that no one would care in large part because Fawful's not a popular character. And while I have no issues writing solely for myself (I stopped expecting any kind of substantial interaction with my writing a while ago now) how hard Fawful's dialogue is to write (I don't even know if I did it right but I tried my best) makes the fact that virtually no one's gonna read it quite demotivating, killing my enthusiasm. So, because I still really like the idea and worked hard on this part, I decided to just upload this.
~
Fawful came to as if waking from a long sleep, slowly regaining consciousness. Which… wasn’t right. One would expect oblivion on the other side of exploding what was left of the Dark Star’s power within themself. He’d been dying anyway so might as well go out with a bang and bring his enemies down too. But nope, he opened his eyes to see that he was in the courtyard of Peach’s castle, very much still aware. Which included awareness that something was wrong with his body.
A quick look down at himself confirmed his growing suspicions. He was transparent and floating, his body tapered off into a tail instead of legs. He was a ghost; dead but not gone… free of the Dark Star’s power though. Presumably it had dissipated, leaving him here, powerless and defeated again. … Maybe not entirely though; his foes could still be dead, he had to exploded himself right in front of them, there was no possible way they’d escaped… right?
What if they’d also become ghosts though? … He’d deal with that problem if and when it presented itself. He didn’t even know the criteria for when or why someone turned into a ghost upon death.
So, eager to know the full outcome of his last-ditch efforts for at least a partial victory, he started for the castle. Floating along was quite simple, it was just a matter of wanting and choosing to move forward. He could even ascend and descend freely; so much more convenient than his usual means of levitation.
Where the final encounter had gone down, he wasn’t sure, but judging based off the position of the sun in the sky it was late morning. In his last clear memories, it had been past sundown. Meaning he’d lost some time and thus whatever or whoever was left after his explosion would’ve likely been cleared away by now. With no clear leads on where to start looking for what he wanted to know, he’d head for the throne room first.
He was in luck, Peach was there. Along with her elderly Toad advisor and… the red and green plumbers. They were alive and well, seemingly undamaged by Fawful’s explosion. Ugh! Twice now they’d beat him down and took away everything he’d had, coming away unscathed from it. How? He’d worked and planned so hard to get them out of the way while he took over the Mushroom Kingdom. It had been the perfect plan and should’ve worked… it would’ve if Bowser hadn’t far surpassed Fawful’s expectations for him.
And now he was back at square one. Less than that actually because he was dead. He didn’t have even an ounce of the Dark Star’s power anymore.
Holding back the urge to curse and shout, he floated closer, intending to eavesdrop on his enemies’ conversation. He was too late though, they were already getting ready to separate.
“See you later,” Peach said with a smile as the brothers walked away.
They strode right past where Fawful floated invisible. Green slowed down as he looked around, pulling his arms in a little as if he were cold. His eyes slid right over Fawful of course but it couldn’t be a coincidence, he had some sense of Fawful’s presence and possibly of the hate Fawful was glaring at them with too.
“You okay bro?” Red asked.
“Uh… yeah, I’m just tired, I guess. It’s been a long day.”
With that, Fawful turned away from them as they moved on.
The throne room was still a mess from when he’d forcefully taken it over. Many of his statues were still up in here as well as outside. He’d had it in his grasp, he’d been so close. … Too close to just give up. He would take out the plumbers and he would take over the Mushroom Kingdom, he just needed a new plan.
 -
First things first, he went back to his workshop hidden away in the sewers. He got lost for a while phasing through walls and thus eventually settled on following the paths the way a living person would have to. He’d been so sure he’d never have to venture down here again but… ugh. Failure was even worse when he’d been the sole person in charge.
Maybe if he’d still been working with Cackletta things would’ve gone better. Two heads were better than one after all, right? It was impossible to say though and it wasn’t worth dwelling on; she was dead and gone, even her ghost had been destroyed. … He’d have to be careful to ensure he didn’t suffer such a fate.
By the time he reached his hidden workshop behind his mostly failed attempt at a shop – he’d had to settle for sneaking out to steal things instead until he got a bit more clout – he was equal parts anxious and furious again. He’d lost Midbus and his entire robot army that he’d spent so much time and effort building, how was he supposed to rebuild from here? He’d thrown everything he had at his plan and it wasn’t enough. How could he possibly have done anything more? Why did fulfilling his ambitions and getting vengeance have to be so hard?
 -
He may have allowed himself to wallow around in his workshop for a while. He deserved a bit of self-pity at this point though, didn’t he? And it wasn’t like anyone was around to see anyway so who cared? In the process though he found he could no longer sleep which sucked really hard because it meant no more breaks from his thoughts or anything else. It meant he had to get up and get to work sooner than he otherwise would’ve too because lying in bed unable to fall asleep was the worst.
What should he do though? Maybe look for Midbus, it was possible he’d survived and if so trying to patch him up was probably a good idea; he’d been a good minion. And if he was dead, Fawful was a ghost so maybe Midbus would be too and thus the same principle still applied.
 -
If he’d still had blood it would’ve been boiling at the sight of what was left of the Dark Star extractor. A group of Toads was dismantling it with all the technological grace of a particularly stupid mountain goat headbutting a brick wall until it finally broke. All the many, many hours Fawful had put into designing, building, and perfecting it – not to mention everything else that had gone into this plan as a whole – and they were just ripping it apart like it was worthless scrap. And to top it off, there was no sign of whatever had become of Midbus anywhere in the room.
He floated over to grab one of two the spare hammers left on the ground and flung it at the nearest Toad. Unfortunately, it missed, sailing right over his head, but he screamed anyway, drawing the attention of the rest of the Toads. Oops, maybe Fawful shouldn’t have done that. … Oh well, he was too mad to really care.
“The hammer levitated and flew right…” the Toad was saying, cutting off with a small yelp as Fawful lifted the other hammer to throw as well. This one hit the Toad squarely in head. He teetered for second before going limp into the arms of the Toad beside him who, along with the other two, screamed and bolted for the door, dragging the unconscious Toad with them.
Fawful zoomed over to grab the hammer again and throw at them. It hit the door right as they closed it though. Ugh!
He snapped back around to face his invention again. It was almost entirely dismantled, there’d be no saving it. Not that he had any further use for it anyway, the Dark Star had been destroyed and it was all Bowser and the two wretched fink-rat plumbers’ fault.
But… as angry as he was, he should focus on finding Midbus. His help would be nice for whatever Fawful’s next plan would end up being.
 -
After searching the whole castle and the ground surrounding it, there was still no sign of Midbus. He was either dead and gone, a ghost who’d decided not to stick around the way Fawful had, or alive and recovering from his wounds elsewhere. The latter two might be because Midbus had figured Fawful had been completely destroyed or as was more likely the case that he didn’t care enough to even think to look and was choosing to abandon Fawful.
It didn’t really matter though because no matter what Fawful for sure no longer had Midbus. Which was… fine, he didn’t care, why should he? He’d been on his own before and risen so far, he could do it again. And he’d be successful this time, third time’s the charm after all, right? … Hopefully.

Being trapped in a portrait was in some ways worse than in a vault and in some ways better. In the vault he could move even if there wasn’t much space to do so, and speak freely even if no one could hear him, but he couldn’t see anything that was going on outside. In a portrait though, while trapped and unable to move, he could see what was going out in front him.
E. Gadd could’ve easily put something over him, depriving him of even that. But he didn’t. Instead he’d hung King Boo up in the front part of his lab. There wasn’t much to see most of the time but it was better than nothing and he could bide his time here. He’d been dead for a long time so time meant little to him. … Except he’d always been impatient compared to how long he’d existed for.
One could only cycle through all the ways he could’ve improved his prior plans to make them more likely to succeed or about possible new plans and what he’d do to his enemies if/when he finally defeated them before even that got old. And now he was just thinking about being bored for the umpteenth time, making it a boring thing to think about too. Truly one could not get any more bored than that. And yet there was nothing else to do but think and think and be bored and hate the people who’d done this to him and be bored some more. If only something would fucking happen.
As if the thought had brought it about, the doorbell rang. It was most likely just Luigi coming for a visit because he did that sometimes or a door-to-door salesperson but it would break the boredom of staring at an empty room for a little bit at least. And if he was really lucky, Luigi might even glance his way with a nervous expression before following E. Gadd into the lab proper.
As was often the case, it took three rings before E. Gadd came out of his lab to answer it. He didn’t spare King Boo a single look as he walked over to open the door. “Oh hello,” he said in a tone that indicated that it wasn’t Luigi at the door. Which could only mean it was someone new. Awesome! Too bad King Boo couldn’t see them from this angle.
“This be the residence of E. Gadd, yes?” The voice had an odd quality to it almost as if it might be coming over a speaker or radio.
“Yes, now might I ask why a…” He cut off as a cloud of thick purple smoke engulfed him, centering on his head. “What is…” Another cloud puffed in from outside. Whatever was going on here was getting more exciting by the second.
Before the smoke had cleared, a little green drone flew into them room. It looked around for a bit before it seemed to freeze looking at King Boo. It zoomed over for a better look.
“Aha!” whoever was controlling it said through it. “I have success! … I think. It could be being a painting that is normal. Hopefully and probably not because why would E. Gadd be having a painting of King Boo if it is not being actual King Boo?”
Weird way of talking or no, whoever this fellow was had just made King Boo’s day. … Assuming he was here to rescue King Boo anyway, it was possible he just wanted to steal the portrait. But even that would be exciting and changing hands would increase the likelihood of his boos being able to come in and free him.
The ghost of a beanish person with swirly eyes, wearing a cape and holding what had to be the drone’s remote control floated through the still open door.  “Stay in corner,” he snapped at E. Gadd who was kind of just standing around now. “Fawful has no time for the gloating yet, in humans mind control spray be wearing off faster than the joy of eating the last cookie in the jar.”
“Yes, right away, Lord Fawful,” E. Gadd said, his cadence almost normal as he moved to obey.
Fawful then looked down at the controller to neatly land the drone on the desk. He placed the controller next to it before zooming over to pull King Boo’s portrait off the wall. He poked and prodded at it a bit before turning it over, presumably do poke and prod at the back too for a few seconds before flipping it back over.
“E. Gadd! How one be freeing King Boo from the frame?”
“Shine a dark light on it.”
“Where is dark light? Fetch it for me, quickly.”
The sound of E. Gadd walking out of the room indicated that he obeyed. He returned a few seconds later to hand one of his flashlights to Fawful. “The switch on the side turns on the dark light.”
“Good, go back to corner.”
King Boo was mentally vibrating with anticipation as Fawful leaned him back against the wall. Next, he floated back to shine the dark light squarely on the portrait. The sensation of being pulled out of it was odd and uncomfortable as always but as soon as he free, he was laughing with exhilaration. Freedom at long last was his!
The very first thing he did with this newfound freedom was levitate the now empty portrait out from behind him and float over to E. Gadd to put him inside it instead. It was harder to do without an enchanted crown to channel his magic through and lacking its stored power to assist him but he got it done. E. Gadd, still affected by the mind control spray didn’t fight it, resulting in a rather calm looking portrait of him. … Expressions of fear were preferable but whatever; King Boo was free and E. Gadd was trapped and that’s all that mattered right now. He might try to fix it later but for now…
Leaning the portrait against the wall to be retrieved later, he snapped back around to face Fawful again. “I appreciate the rescue. I know you didn’t do it for no reason though. What do you want in return?” As long as it was reasonable and within his means, he’d probably grant it. He was that grateful and being generous had gained him many loyal followers in the past and he was always open to more followers.
Fawful grinned wide, even chuckling a little as his ghostly tail curled in visible anticipation or perhaps nerves. “I have the wish to offer an alliance.”
King Boo had been down this road before with Hellen and that had turned out terribly but it didn’t hurt to hear him out. “What kind of alliance?”
“Well… as new ghost, Fawful was wondering around Peach’s castle unseen, hearing many things, seeing many more. Whispers about King Boo were common, your hatred for the red and green plumbers clear as a glass of wine after one has found nothing but sorrow at the bottom of. So the alliance: Fawful will be helping take down plumbers and at the same time, King Boo will be helping in the conquering of the Mushroom Kingdom for my taking.”
“You want to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom, huh?” King Boo wasn’t into kingdom conquering himself, he was perfectly content with the land he had and didn’t desire any more especially if it was infested with living.
“Yes.” Fawful nodded. “I be wanting a kingdom and I don’t be liking the red and green plumbers so I will be taking their kingdom. With our alliance like the icing on the cake, I leave the vengeance of them to you.”
Given how many times Luigi had sucked him up into that wretched vacuum of his, King Boo might actually be willing to go along with this even if to an outsider looking in, Fawful would appear to be getting much more out of it. But really, a good chunk of the work in taking over the Mushroom Kingdom would be done with just taking out Mario and Luigi. If it worked, King Boo desire for vengeance was more than strong enough to make assisting with the rest of it worth it. But… “How do I know you can carry your weight in such a scheme?” No way was he going to be doing everything himself with his supposed ally barely helping.
“Because if was not for a certain spiky snack being much spicier than expected, Fawful’s last plan would’ve been success.” With that, as if eager to share his tale, he launched into it explaining his last plan and how close he’d gotten to succeeding.
Honestly it was a rather entertaining tale, especially the way he told it. King Boo had been around more than long enough to know about the Dark Star so that gave credibility to his tale because few living knew of it by now. He had gotten rather close to succeeding though.
“And so,” Fawful said after his tale had winded down, “I be thinking in terms of evil schemes we are near equals. Our goals don’t align but they be overlapping like multilayered cake of ambition and vengeance. Working together we could perhaps be making a plan that is unstoppable like large boulder made of vengeance and knives rolling down steep cliff crushing any daring to be standing in its path, including nasty plumbers.”
Maybe King Boo should take a bit to think about this, confirm Fawful’s tale of near success over the Mario bros with one of his castle spies, but after spending who even knew how long trapped in a portrait after his third defeat, he was rather eager to set in motion some vengeance. Besides, he was starting to like Fawful, he was odd but in a way that made him interesting, far more so than Hellen – not that that was too difficult to do. And who knows, maybe all King Boo’s plans had been missing was a horde of killer robots. So… “All right, I’ll agree to an alliance.”
With an excited snicker, Fawful extended a hand out of his cloak to shake King Boo’s hand – something that stubby boo arms always made weird but he didn’t say anything about it – sealing the alliance. If this didn’t turn out well then so be it, it wouldn’t be the first plan or even first failed alliance King Boo had attempted. But it was worth a try in case it worked and regardless it should at least make for an interesting time. “First though, I need to free my boos. Then we can go somewhere to discuss the finer details.”
