i just want people to know that just because your content doesn’t get many notes, doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile. there is someone out there, a living breathing human being, who appreciates it, whose day it made that little bit brighter, and who admires what you do. nothing is a ‘flop’ if it made one person happy.

Notes on the Scene in Job's Basement
Tumblr media
Crowley is not tempting Aziraphale here. He's experimenting on him.
Getting Aziraphale to sin, or even getting him drunk, is not Crowley's intent in this scene. Eating food, taking pleasure in food, drinking alcohol, and even being drunk are not sins in most of Judaism or Christianity (and they're certainly not sins in British Christianity, regardless of any church's doctrine). When Aziraphale turns down alcohol, Crowley just suggests he try food instead; so it's not important to Crowley what Aziraphale tries, but it is important to him that he try something.
This scene is also the first time (chronologically) we see that Crowley likes to drink and likes to be drunk.
Tumblr media
We know from
Tumblr media
and from
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as well as from Book Omens and Word of God that angels have no instinct beyond curiosity pulling them toward eating or toward gender. From this we can reasonably presume they have no instinct toward Beverages either.
That means that in this moment--
Tumblr media
--Crowley is very likely the only metaphysical entity he knows on either side of the divide, or even knows of, who has ever experienced a physical pleasure.
And he probably has some Lingering Questions about it, like we all did the first time a physical pleasure blew our minds. Like,
Is it this strong for everyone?
Is there something wrong with me?
Am I going to hurt myself if I do this, like, a lot?
And it's not like the poor creature can ask anyone, because the answers for humans aren't necessarily going to apply to him.
So when he sees an opportunity, Crowley gets that one angel he knows who'll talk to him to try a human thing, and then he watches to see if physical pleasure hits the angel as hard as it hit him.
And that's why he looks so creepily pleased when it does.
Tumblr media
Apparently it is this strong for everyone and there isn't anything wrong with him. Now he can relax and get sloshed without worrying, and he even has someone to talk to about how rad human stuff is.
A Dip Into Speculation
We know because we're shown this isn't the first time Crowley has gotten drunk that, watching Aziraphale, Crowley understands what he's seeing. I think it's really interesting that Crowley doesn't laugh at Aziraphale at any point during this scene, and he doesn't correct the way he's eating, either.
Maybe it's because this is what it was like for Crowley the first time. Maybe he got so drunk he passed out and woke up in a puddle of his own sick. Maybe he got so drunk he passed out and didn't wake up at all, and there was Paperwork and he had to get used to a whole new corporation just when he'd got the hang of having legs in the old one. Maybe somebody had to show him how to use a fork or whatever they had going on for eating utensils in Ancient Mesopotamia. I distinctly remember having to learn as a small child to chew with my mouth closed. There is every possibility Crowley doesn't consider the way Aziraphale is eating to be worthy of ridicule because whatever Crowley did the first time was worse.
Maybe he wants to leave Aziraphale set up for later embarrassment over his table manners. Aziraphale was a judgy bitch about the wine.
Or maybe it's something like Let him have this one. There can be rules to it later; let him just enjoy it, once, like a little kid with both fists in their birthday cake.
Maybe it's desire. There is some textual evidence for this. Once Aziraphale learns to eat properly, the way he does it is very attractive, and we know Crowley loves watching him do it.
Tumblr media
I don't think it's overreaching even to interpret David Tennant's physical performance of Crowley watching Aziraphale eat as one of sensual or erotic pleasure. I mean--
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not saying it absolutely has to be erotic, but it's not a reach, or even a full extension of the elbow, to read it that way.
There's another meta somewhere [I'll link it when I find it again; if you know this meta, please drop it in comments!] that discusses how this exchange in Job's basement is filmed like an erotic scene.
Tumblr media
Like Crowley, we all want to kiss this face.
Aziraphale isn't eating prettily, but he's eating lewdly, ravenously, desirously, and it's lit like romantic sex, not like gluttony. Whether that's funny or poignant or hot may depend on the viewer. Here's how Crowley's handling it:
Tumblr media
Srs tho, any frame of this scene could have been painted by Artemisia Gentileschi.
Or maybe--and this is my favorite of the available interpretations--maybe this is what it was like for Crowley the first time and he doesn't interfere because he wants Aziraphale to come out of this as someone who's had the same experience Crowley's had so Crowley won't be so totally alone in having had it.

notes for fanfic writers from a current metalhead with knowledge about the metal scene in the 80s (my mom was an 80s metalhead):
of course, everyone is free to write eddie however the hell they want! but after reading idk how many fanfics, a lot of them written by people who aren't into metal themselves, i thought i could share a couple of things!
- the fact that eddie deals drugs doesn't automatically mean he uses them. he might smoke a joint every once in a while, but a lot of metalheads just stick to beer and booze.
- i love the mental image of eddie wearing makeup. however, realistically, eddie wouldn't be wearing makeup. not even when performing. the most he would wear is black nail polish, maybe some eyeliner during shows. yes, there's a subgenre of metal where the musicians do wear makeup like eyeshadow and lipstick, however, that is not the type of metal eddie listens to (with the exception of W.A.S.P. who had members who did wear eyeliner)
- eddie would absolutely love a lot of music that isn't necessarily metal, especially 60s and 70s rock, like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix ect. he would absolutely admire David Bowie. and i'll let you guys in on a little secret. a lot of metalheads love the fuck out of ABBA. he might not admit it to his friends (he doesn't want to look uncool), but ABBA is notorious for actually making very technical music, and for using elaborate mixing techniques on their albums. that alone would get eddie to listen to it.
- that being said, there are also definitely bands he would absolutely not listen to. i've seen people mention eddie listening to Guns N' Roses and Mötley Crüe. he wouldn't. eddie listens to heavy metal, trash metal, and the beginnings of black metal. bands like Mötley Crüe are more glam leaning than heavy metal. and 80s metalheads listening to eddie's subgenres of metal wouldn't be caught dead listening to glam metal. i know, it's a weird thing.
- a short list of metalbands that eddie does listen to (both canon and assumptions): Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Mercyful Fate, Venom, Saxon, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Queensrÿche, W.A.S.P., Judas Priest, Accept. of course there are more bands, but these are just a few i can list from the top of my head!
- and the most important note: eddie is a metalhead, NOT a punker!!! i've seen some writers describe him as punk, or punk rock, or him living in the punk scene. there is a big difference between the two! plus, a lot of metalheads and punkers didn't even like each other that much during the 80s. there was a bit of a musical rivalry.
hope this helps!

❥﹒♡﹒☕﹒ 𝗽𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮'𝘀
having good grades doesn't necessarily mean you're smart, a test or exam can't always determine someone's intelligence, but it's academic validation we crave, right? so here are some tips thanks to which you will get straight a's.
𝟭. understand what the professor wants ( 🪼 )
learning the entire book by heart is tiring and basically useless. we take our education seriously, but it's impossible to know everything about everything, so inevitably there will be topics we can gloss over. check old tests, listen to the teacher during the lecture, talk to students who have already attended the course and passed the exam. understand which aspects your professor particularly cares about and concentrate on those, your exam will certainly go well.
𝟮. strengthen your memorization ( 🦋 )
very often the amount of things to study is just too much and, even though you spend all day in the library rereading the topics again and again, you feel that it is not enough. you get confused, you forget steps, you get lost in the labyrinth of the subject. investing in understanding your form of memorization will benefit you in the long run. identify your type of memory (spatial, photographic, echoic, etc.) and focus on how to improve it. having a good memory will make your studying for the exam much faster and easier.
𝟯. pay attention in class ( 🫧 )
attend all lectures and take notes. much of your studying comes from your professor's lecture. underline the important things in your textbook, carefully follow their speech and - if there are any - their powerpoint slides, writing only the things that the teacher adds and which are not written either in the book or in the extra material, if necessary, record the lesson so you can listen to it again at a later time.
𝟰. organize your notes the same day ( 🧃 )
when i take notes in class i write badly and quickly to keep up with the teacher, shortening words or omitting passages.  by reorganizing your notes that same evening (at most the next day, if you really don't have time) you can revise your work when the lesson is still fresh in your mind; if you wait too long, you will forget most of the things and you will find yourself staring blankly at pages of notes which, at that point, will seem more like hieroglyphics to you than anything else.
𝟱. use ai responsibly ( 🪴 )
artificial intelligence is everywhere nowadays and why not use it to our advantage? of course i'm not suggesting that you let an ai take care of all your tests and essays, it wouldn't make sense, however very often it helped me make a list of key points to develop in a research paper, or gave me excellent ideas and insights for projects. they can also be used to create flashcards, summarize and simplify articles, or create practice tests based on the material you will have to study.
𝟲. delve deeper into your “whys” ( 🌾 )
sometimes when i study i stare into space and wonder why i am studying something that seems completely irrelevant to my path. i'm sure it happens to you too, don't ignore this feeling. don't be afraid to explore themes and topics that aren't clear to you, if two statements seem contradictory ask yourself why, if you don't understand some passages, don't be afraid to ask a question. we study for ourselves, before studying to graduate, to work. there is no shame in not understanding, your intelligence lies in striving to clarify what seems obscure.

Buck & Eddie: Eddie KNOWS Buck!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The title of episode 7x5 is "You don't know me" (it could change) and when I read it, all I could think about is something I haven't been able to forget since 6x4 aired. It was Buck’s conversation with Connor and IMO, it was weird and superficial for REASONS I might explain in a future post.
Anyway, Buck's overall arc in Season 6 was about him trying to be at ease while not making the same mistakes (which started at the end of 5x18). In 6x1, he wanted to be interim captain, then he went on to search for happiness in 6x2 followed by his decision to be Connor's sperm donor in 6x4 and that led to the comment included in the scene below, "I know those things about you". But the question is, does Connor really know Buck? 🤔
Reminder, based on the things that were shown in CANON in 4x5, Buck and Connor never really knew each other. They were acquaintances who met while they were in Peru and that was after Buck left Hershey when Maddie told him to "Go and be happy". During their conversation while Buck was bartending, Connor "suggested" Buck move to L.A. with him and the guys he knew because they were "kind of like a family". It's important to note that Connor said it after he stopped listening to Buck while he was trying to explain something to him.
Who always listens to Buck? EDDIE!
Now on to Season 7.
In the recent TCA interview, with regards to Buck’s self-discovery journey, OS commented that Buck’s sperm donation for his friends "hasn't necessarily played in any kind of conscious way so far" within the first 5 episodes (see below).
Tumblr media
So the question is, could Buck tell Connor, "You don't know me!" in a conversation about the baby in 7x5 and it have something to do with Buck’s self-discovery journey? It's possible since as mentioned above, Connor doesn't really know Buck. Let's be real... when Connor reappeared they hadn't seen each other in three years and the attributes Connor mentioned about why he asked him to be his sperm donor instead of him going to a sperm bank aren't necessarily HEREDITARY.
Reminder, Buck likes to make things about himself and he likes to fix things. Therefore, the way things played out in 6A made it seem like he was making things about himself with the sperm donation too.
Here are a few of the comments that have been said to Buck and about him by his family.
In 3x1 and 3x2 (they replayed some of the scene from the end of 3x1 at the beginning of 3x2), Chris said, "You're going to be ok kid" after Buck told him he hopes he finds a job he likes and somethimg that makes him feel like he matters when he grows up. This happened after Buck quit the 118 but before the Tsunami.
In 3x6, Hen told Bobby, "I think Buck makes everything hard on Buck. The boy has two settings... zero and shut up before I smack you". They were discussing Bobby letting Buck work again after the lawsuit.
In 3x9, Eddie said, "So we're making this about you again?" while they were in the kitchen after Buck apologized for the second time following the lawsuit.
In 3x16 Chimney said, "So it's all about you?" when Buck was telling the team about Red.
In 3x16, Maddie said, "So you don't think this business with Red is hitting a little too close to home? A lonely hero firefighter who's pining for his lost love."
In 4x5, Athena said, "You never give up, that's what being Buck means to me" after he stayed in the warehouse fire against orders.
In 5x4, Eddie said, "You're the guy who likes to fix things" after Maddie and Chimney left.
In 6x11, dead Bobby said, "Aww kid, if what matters to you most is the way people see you... then you haven't learned a damn thing" in Buck’s coma dream.
They all know how Buck likes to make things about himself and at various points, they've said it in some form or another. Family won't hesitate to tell the people they love the truth unlike those who want to get what they can then leave like Connor did. And that's one of the reasons why I think Buck didn't talk to anyone about the sperm donation because if he had, they would have told him the truth. He did talk to Hen and even though she didn't discourage him, she did caution him about the possible ramifications of it except he was adamant about doing it and he wouldn't listen to the universe when it kept screaming at him.
Does Connor know Buck? NO!
The person who does know Buck is EDDIE!
Eddie not only knows him, HE SEES HIM! He also listens to him, he takes care of him and he's the one who's been there for him. In 6x1, he helped Buck see another side to Bobby's decision about interim captain. In 6x6, Eddie was the one who reassured him that Karen would be fine without a spleen. The list goes on and on but 9-1-1 made it a point in Season 6 to show the GA that NO ONE knows Buck like Eddie does and that continued even in 6x15 when Buck said that BS about ND seeing him.
Tumblr media
No one believed it and it's possible Buck didn't believe it either.
The point of this post is that Buck’s breakdown may finally happen in Season 7 and it might have something to do with the sperm donation 👀.
Tumblr media
Reminder, he didn't have one in season 6 even though he died and I think all of these things are related and could lead to it.
If Buck does have a breakdown, who's going to be by his side? EDDIE!
The same way Buck was by Eddie’s side after Eddie’s breakdown.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I said I wasn't going to speculate and I hadn't planned on it but I have so many thoughts about what could trigger Buck’s breakdown and I've been debating whether I'll post them. But I just might now that everything seems to be pointing in that direction.
Will Buck finally breakdown in season 7? Only the showrunner, writers and producers know the answer to that question.

♡ what they look for in a girl
[stan marsh x reader] ; [kyle brof. x reader]
[kenny mc. x reader] ; [leopold butters stotch x reader]
[tolkien b. x reader] 🟊
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
gender : female cws : minor nsfw
requested : yes! thank you anon ! relationship : none mentioned
authors note : i wanted to write what they look for in personality traits, instead of appearance, hope that was okay!
NOTICE : as always, these characters are aged up to be in college 19/20+!
Tumblr media
stanley marsh :
♡ i feel like he'd really want someone who is comfortable with silence, like being alone together in the same room doing separate things, yet enjoying each others presence. i think quiet time/being able to be around each other while being quiet is important to him, since he has to deal with so much talking in south park in general.
♡ i also think he's want someone who's really stable in his life. like he wouldn't necessarily want a girl who's always mentally stable, but more like he wants to be able to depend on someone especially during harder moments when he's struggling. he’d want to find stability in your relationship.
♡ definitely wants a girl who can take their relationship seriously but also who can kind of be playful at times. since stan is kind of a ticking time bomb, he'll want someone who's kind of also emotionally smart enough to tell when something is off with him because he struggles with expressing those same emotions.
♡ trust. this one is probably the biggest one for stan, he needs stability and trust in a relationship with anyone. he needs to be able to trust you'll be honest with him.
♡ i think all of this combined with support and love for him is what he looks for in a partner :)
Tumblr media
kyle broflovski :
♡ as i'm sure everyone knows, he'd want someone very family oriented! even if you aren't close with your own family, as long as you care about having a family in the future, or are close to his own family i think that's good enough for him.
♡ would also really want someone to be on good terms with his mom and ike, since his dad is fairly easy to get along with and his mom is very much the head of the household - he'd want a girl to get along with her - even if that means looking at his baby photos with her.
♡ also would want someone who might be interested in religion, or at the very least doesn't make fun of him for his own.
♡ looks for communication in relationships, especially if he did something wrong? he’d want to know as soon as it happened. he’s probably a bit worried of losing you, or being abandoned by you because of heidi and that whole situation, so someone who can easily communicate their issues are reassure him everything is okay and stable in their relationship is perfect for him.
♡ i get the impression that his standards are kind of on the floor, with his mistreatment from cartman and heidi both, he just wants someone who won't leave him or make fun of him or his insecurities.
Tumblr media
kenny mccormick :
♡ definitely wants a girl who will try anything once, if you catch my drift. especially if you'll initiate it as well? or seem invested in trying something new with him :)
♡ i feel like he’d really like someone to crack jokes with. i think he shares eric’s similar sense of humor but doesn’t actually want to full blown do the whole ‘eric’ thing all the time (ie dealing with cartman). sometimes i think he just wants to make a lil bit of fun with you! you know?
♡ he’d probably also want someone who’s a little more on the adventurous side, who’s probably a bit ambitious, again someone who’d be willing to try anything once. he probably really wants someone around who can also have their own wild side!
♡ also probably looks for someone who is kind to karen, especially if it means her crashing your guys dates.
♡ overall i feel like he doesn't have a huuuge preference, but more like he just wants someone he can get along with! definitely someone with a sense of humor similar to him.
Tumblr media
leopold butters stotch :
♡ this is just my totally personal opinion but i feel like he'd really like someone also outgoing and also understanding? he might always be worried he's messing up or something while being with you, but would want you to be understanding when he makes a mistake.
♡ a little bit of chaos goes a long way. someone who will be able to create a little chaos with him from time to time would definitely be something he wants in a girl.
♡ playful intimacy, he doesn't wanna feel insecure with those intimate moments he has with you, but i think a little bit of playfulness with each other would totally brighten his day.
♡ i feel like he'd really look for a sense of belonging in a girl, somewhere where he fits in, and feels safe. since he doesn't get a lot of that at home, he'd really want to feel far from his home around a girl.
♡ to be honest i don't think butters thinks too much about what he wants, it just kind of happens for him.
Tumblr media
tolkien black :
♡ i feel like tolkien probably looks for someone who's really good at communicating. he'd want to avoid any and all drama, considering he's got enough of it just living in south park normally.
♡ this one is kind of a given, but i feel like he'd want a girl who's more on the mature side, similar to stan but in a different way. he'd want a girl with more of her own interests and things that she enjoys. he really wants someone who's able to talk to him about mature things and not have to be worried too much that you won't take it seriously.
♡ someone self confident i imagine, i think he already has enough going on that he doesn't necessarily want to be worried about you on top of his family and everything else. which isn't to say he won't support you during your down moments, but being confident in yourself is probably a big one for him.
♡ this all ties in with the other ones, but self reliance and being good to yourself is probably big for him, again he doesn't wanna be in charge of you but will definitely take care of you when you need it - you know?
♡ overall, he just wants someone who's a bit normal or at least a bit less hectic or crazy than the rest of south park.

Deltarune Prediction: Possible upcoming members of the Fun Gang in future chapters
The files of deltarune have two specific naming schemes for dialogue portaits.
If the character is a member of the main cast (Which I'm defining as any major ally who visits a dark world), their dialogue portraits are labeled "spr_face_[character's first initial]". For example, all of Susie's dialogue portraits are labeled "spr_face_s", all of Noelle's are labeled "spr_face_n", and all of Ralsei's are labeled "spr_face_r".
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other characters who follow this pattern are Lancer, Berdly, and Toriel (Who will presumably be very important in chapter 3).
For other characters, full names tend to be used. Asgore's portraits are labeled "spr_face_asgore", Burgerpants' are "spr_face_burgerpants", Sans' are "spr_face_sans", etc.
It's worth mentioning that despite being very important to the story, characters like King and Queen who are primarily antagonists fall into this category. It's not necessarily an indicator of importance, but rather seems to be one of whether the character is a part of the Fun Gang (the group as a whole, not just the playable Fun Gang characters).
There are three characters who seem to break this scheme. Jockington interestingly doesn't fall into either category, having his portraits abbreviated as "spr_face_jock". He's the one character to have an only-partially abbreviated name. You could pass it off as Toby simply shortening a long name, but Burgerpants' name is even longer and that's written out in full. Whether this means he'll have a major role in future chapters is unclear.
Tumblr media
More significantly, Catti (not Catty) has dialogue portaits labeled "spr_face_c". Other than Toriel, who will definitely have a big role in chapter 3, Catti is the ONLY up-until-now-side-character with just her first initial used in the portrait naming. This is pretty damning evidence that she'll be a main character in the future.
Tumblr media
It's worth noting that in Susie's chapter 1 sprites her eyes are covered by her hair. Jockington's eyes are similarly covered by sunglasses, and while Catti's aren't hidden, she does have pretty intense eyeliner. It might not mean anything, but all of the major characters with the exception of Noelle seem to have a pretty consistent "eye" theme. (Even with Noelle, you could argue that her eyes going blank while she uses Snowgrave and the shadows cast over them after using it fits.)
The third character is honestly kind of a long shot, but it's important to point out. I'm sure most of you have seen this unused MS Paint Ralsei portrait:
Tumblr media
What many of you might not know is that it actually isn't labeled like the other ralsei sprites. The filename is "spr_smallface_a2".
"a". not "r".
This goddamn image might be our first look at deltarune universe Asriel.
The fact that its "a2" implies that there were two other "smallface" Asriel portraits that were for whatever reason removed from the files.
Full Character Categorization
Current/Future Fun Gang Members (first initial used)
Susie (spr_face_s)
Ralsei (spr_face_r)
Lancer (spr_face_l)
Noelle (spr_face_n)
Berdly (spr_face_b)
Toriel (spr_face_t)
Catti (spr_face_c)
Asriel (spr_smallface_a)
Other Characters (first names)
Sans (spr_face_sans)
Asgore (spr_face_asgore)
Catty (spr_face_catty)
Bratty (spr_face_bratty)
Burgerpants (spr_face_burgerpants)
Rouxls Kaard (spr_face_rurus) - "rurus" is the Japanese translation of his first name.
Undyne (spr_face_undyne)
Rudy (spr_face_rudy_ch1) - Interestingly, Rudy is the only character who doesn't have non-ch1 sprites. Even Catti, who doesn't have any actual new sprites between chapter 1 and 2, has two duplicate sets of files (spr_face_c_ch1 and spr_face_c). It's almost definitely just a tiny little oversight, but I may as well mention it.
King (spr_face_king)
Queen (spr_face_queen)
Alphys (spr_alphysface) - weird break in naming pattern but still not abbreviated
Jockington
Jockington (spr_face_jock)
Final Comments
Please let me know if I missed anything. Also keep in mind this is all very much a theory, and kind of a questionable one at that. While I'm personally pretty convinced about Catti in particular, it's all kind of up in the air—I just noticed an interesting pattern and wanted to share it.

where are characters from the first Hades game now, and some other character-centric theories:
inspired by this post by @thebuttsmcgee
so from the technical test gameplay stream we learned that Chronos straight up took over the underworld and kidnapped not only Hades, but Zagreus and Persephone too. out of the underworlders from the first game, Charon is still doing his thing in secret, Skelly returns in a new coat, the Wretched Broker is back too, and Hypnos is the only other guy from the House who's hiding at Hecate's hub, but he's also fast asleep...
personally, i think Hypnos might be cursed or something like that. Chronos using Hypnos's schtick against him? lose time by sleeping through it all? or maybe he just wakes up a bit later. hell, maybe he's always asleep during the test but not the final game because he would've dropped a spoiler or something.
so what about the rest?
assuming they're not all imprisoned somehow,
-Nyx and Thanatos: they could've fled to Chaos. a narrator's note at the Crossroads says that it houses 'those still loyal to lord Hades', but doesn't necessarily say 'all of them'. Nyx visits Chaos in the first game once their relationship is mended, and like the post i linked said, Than would've probably tried to protect the family and the House for as long as he could. but in the face of no other option, i think Chaos would be a viable place to flee to for the two of them, out of Chronos's reach similarly to the Crossroads. Than also visits the surface though, so maybe he'll show up at the Crossroads at some point? maybe in a plot point, trying to help Mel free Zag and the fam? both of them are important enough to warrant an appearance.
-the Furies: my idea is that all three of them were forced to serve Chronos. they're a very important part of security and upkeep down there, i think he would've wanted the realm's employees on his side. i don't however think they're going to be the bossfight between Asphodel and Tartarus. they, or Meg alone, should have some presence however.
-Sisiphus: it would be kinda cute if the furies went behind Chronos's back and helped to tuck Sisiphus away somewhere safe, given that he is loyal to Zag/the family and maybe that'd mean they were ordered to torture him again. depends on what Chronos's rule over the underworld looks like for the different shades there, but Melinoë speaks to the few that hang around at Crossroads in an almost comforting manner, so i imagine Chronos is trying to rule by fear and get shades on his side that way. Bouldy's gonna be sad, but fine. i hope. but at least a mention would be nice.
-Achilles and Patroclus (and Theseus&Asterius): ...they're probably separated again, aren't they... brainstorming now, i like (pain and) the idea that they're both in Elysium, just not together. because i think Elysium would've risen up as an army of sorts trying to oppose Chronos, given it's all warriors and heroes. separated by war. Nemesis having Stygius with her makes me believe Achilles could be wielding Varatha. additionally, Theseus being forced to step up and put his vanity aside, delicious idea i think. also, Mel arriving to this supposed paradise only to find it in a desolate state. all of them, i think, should be at the very least mentioned too.
-Orpheus and Euridice: they could be both hiding or imprisoned or forced to serve, but. what if this time it's Euridice who's looking for Orpheus. he's at the house and at Chronos's whim, while she makes it to the Crossroads and asks Mel for help. it'd be a shame if they were never heard from again.
-Cerberus: probably locked up with the fam :( orrr he's running wild all around the realm and Chronos is literally incapable of taming him. that would've been fun. Cerberus bossfight tho... nah. no way he wouldn't see something familiar in Mel. but it could be fun too if done right. he definitely has to reappear.
-Dusa: wild theory time but she's hiding in the rafters, spying on Chronos. :D. if the situation is much more dire, she's either also forced to serve, or even banished into Asphodel to be with the other gorgon heads. either way i think she'll pop up again in some capacity.
-House Contractor, Head Chef, Resource Director: probably unwillingly continuing their jobs under Chronos's rule. although the chef might've lost his job, depends if Chronos like, eats normal food. well mostly onions and fish but still. alternatively, the chef will also show up at Crossroads like the Wretched Broker does.
-THE GOOD SHADE from Elysium: okay war hero good shade arc when? i'm sorry, but i love them.
some other ideas, theories and wishes:
-the obvious one is Hera, like many others i also hope she will appear as a major boon giver.
-i have a feeling, however, that Hermes might not. it seems a bit that Artemis and Selene are filling up his role as the little bit specific boon giver, but maybe i'm wrong. Artemis provides crit boons just like in the first game and Selene has a bit more of a Chaos vibe to her. let's see.
-i do think, or would like it if, Chaos shows up, but not as a boon giver. but i believe they would definitely have something to say about Chronos's actions.
-back to Hermes though... there's that sealed staircase that leads upwards from the Crossroads. people have already been theorizing this, but there might seriously be a section of the game taking place on Olympus, or at the very least somewhere under it. still, i don't think Hermes would be a boon giver either if he does appear. i would however like to see him interact with Charon.
-the Fates will, i think, remain obscure, even if Moros has more of a connection to them. maybe they'll be mentioned and explored a bit more, but i wouldn't count on them appearing by themselves.
-i would however like to see at least one more of Nyx's kids. originally, i also hoped Erebus himself ever shows up personified, but i like what they've done with it as a place.
Eris is i'd say the biggest contender, given that she's namedropped in the first game through a weapon aspect and a purchasable item. maybe she's even boss material (again, if Nemesis has the sword, Eris may wield the rail).
-same thinking can be applied to Ariadne (she lives with Dionysus on Olympus, does she not?), Talos (giant robot made by Hephaestus, how cool is that), and Lamia (snake lady with personal history with Zeus and Hera, would even make for a cool boss too i think, although i always viewed her as a more melancholic figure. but i'm just spitballing here). there are also Atlas, Prometheus and other names on Charon's many items, those are less likely to make an appearance imo.
-Talos also obviously has a weapon aspect in the first one, and then there's Chiron. in myth, he is the son of Chronos. the juiciness of that situation, given he has a relationship with Achilles and Patty as well... perhaps he'll be Elysium's miniboss in the spirit of Asterius? or straight up a main boss? or actually a friendly? i really hope they did something with him, the potential is so very there.
-i think Daedalus will remain present just in name and spirit.
-now that i'm on the weapons though, for all we know there might not be such a thing as weapon aspects (at least not tied to specific figures) in Hades 2, but if there are, including hidden aspects, i'd like to see nods to more of other world mythologies/histories/cultures, like Egyptian, Japanese, pre-columbian American or Slavic.
-this brings me to keepsakes and companion plushies, if they're in the game at all and if so, who gives them out.
keepsake-wise, beside the olympians, Hecate is obvious, as well as Odysseus, and Nemesis and Moros are too. Arachne and Skelly also. Charon seems likely, so does Dora. maybe Hypnos if/when he wakes up. Selene, probably.
i'd say, if companions are a thing, it's also up to Nemesis and Moros, Odysseus, maybe Hecate, likely Arachne, and if there's 6 of them like last time, the final one will be from either Dora or someone we haven't seen yet. or Hecate doesn't give one (she's pretty op for a summon) but Skelly does.
-this also ties into romance! it's been deduced a long time ago, right when the trailer came out, that Nemesis and Moros are very likely romanceable. i also see the appeal and potential of romancing Dora, and from the technical test, i like Melinoë's friendship with Artemis. Hypnos's presence at the Crossroads is interesting from this point too, but i wouldn't guess he'll be romanceable if/when he wakes up.
there are more details to speculate about, especially in gameplay and resources (boss room rewards! the equivalent of nectar/ambrosia to give characters!) but i wanted to keep this mainly about the npcs.
honestly curious what other people are saying!

I'm finishing up my rewatch of season 3 of The Boys before I begin my SPN rewatch (got 2 more episodes left) and watching Jensen's performance as Soldier Boy just absolutely floors me.
It floors me because I've seen antis time and time again claim that Soldier Boy/Ben was essentially Dean in a superhero suit, that Jensen has one note acting, that he watered down the character by refusing to do scenes that made him uncomfortable (especially by one anti blog in particular who claims to be an acting expert, you know the one), and that his acting is very bland.
But in studying his performance because I'm studying the character (for writing purposes), these people couldn't be more wrong. I will admit that the only time I got a semi-Dean vibe from him was during the scene where Soldier Boy tells Butcher about his father. Which doesn't surprise me because Jensen himself said he leaned into the Dean/John dynamic for that scene.
But otherwise, I don't see anywhere where their claims hold any water. I mean, have you actually watched his scenes?
Tumblr media
This scene is so important. Annie is getting ready to face off with this guy and even though she knows he's dangerous (after seeing he results of one of his explosions up close and personal), but she has no idea how dangerous, not really. This isn't Dean. This isn't Beau. This is the dangerous side of Solider Boy and had Hughie not intervened, there's a good possibility shit would have gone even more sideways. Especially, with Ben coming off of the confrontation with Countess, her hitting him where it hurts the most (meaning she tapped into one of his biggest insecurities. That explosion wasn't an accident (like NYC or even at Herogasm with the Twins). Ben didn't black out here. That's shown to us by there being no Russian trigger, despite him learning that Countess and his team handed him over back in 1984 and didn't even get paid for it.
I mean, look at this expression right here. His body is moving but his eyes don't. He's getting into position, ready to take out the next threat. Only when Hughie steps in and Annie's eyes dim does he step away, assessing her as not a threat. This is the weapon that is deadly enough to take on Homelander and no matter where you stand on Jensen as an actor, he pulls it off here.
The physicality he utilized in this role speaks volumes. And it's not about Soldier Boy being a Supe or being in a suit or having to look pissed off all the time (minus the few times he's amused). It has to do with how he embodies that character, carries him, and if he pulls it off. Spoiler alert: he did.
Tumblr media
This scene exemplifies exactly what I'm talking about. I have watched it countless times and this part of it always sticks out to me every single time. Look at that expression, look at the eyes. Ben is not going all out to sell this belief let's call it to Hughie. He's giving him a look that says "this is the truth and you better believe it or else". He's not smiling for news cameras or doing propaganda or greeting fans of his movies decades prior. He's not selling the Soldier Boy is America's Greatest Hero image here. He's subtly threatening Hughie, and this is where he begins to have an issue with him. Because Ben wants to see himself as the good guy, something Kripke, Jensen, and the cast have talked about in promoting the season. In his own mind, he is the good guy; he's a legend in his own mind so to speak. He's bought the hype about himself. And anyone who doesn't see him that way is an enemy aka a threat.
It doesn't mean he doesn't know he's doing things that aren't right (as we saw in those outtakes of the 'Don't-do-drugs' commercial). He's very self-aware but he justifies it to himself because he's Soldier Boy and almost like Homelander always says, he can do what he wants. Not necessarily that he has a god-mentality that rivals Homelander's but everything is justifiable in his mind because he's a Supe, or more precisely the Supe, and he's protecting his country. And it also keeps that insecurity of being a disappointment at bay that he has from his childhood. It's all layered into his make-up so to speak. So not only is Hughie a threat (not physically obviously but to Ben's image of himself) but is also bordering dangerously close to reminding him of the very thing he hates: a mirror that reminds him that maybe his dad was right about him (not saying he was, I'm saying this is potentially what is running through his mind). So not only does it share a brilliant parallel between Hughie and Annie when it comes to Soldier Boy that eventually plays out beautifully in the Tower Scene in the finale, but it also is sewn into the issue between Hughie and Annie this season in their own relationship.
But the way Jensen plays that scene is phenomenal because if you watch it, you realize if Hughie says one wrong thing, he may be in trouble.
Which is then continued in this scene:
Tumblr media
In this scene, Hughie is mentioning there's a lot of people inside Herogasm and here we get Ben's reaction to Hughie saying that. Then he tells Hughie as long as the people stay out of his way they should be fine. But again, watch how he says it, his expression, focus on his tone, his body movement. He clearly is not happy that Hughie says this (it literally is a continuation from the hotel room scene) and again has that subtle threat vibe, even with Butcher standing there (because let's face it, to him, even with temp V, Butcher is no threat). And of course, we all know the slap scene and the punch scene that happens later. Not only does Hughie get switched out for Ryan later on who Butcher ends up protecting from Soldier Boy, but it all plays out beautifully as all of the connections, overt and subtle, unfold throughout the season.
But back to Jensen's performance. There is so much to appreciate in how he fully embodied this character. And that's not saying it through an AA haze of "omg he's so hawt!" or "omg did you see his ass?" That's appreciating the amount of work that he put into this role when the cameras started rolling. He literally became Soldier Boy and he embodied him even outside of the suit.
As an actor, Jensen is very nuanced. He consistently adds in these little things that help make the character even more multi-dimensional than what is written on the page or what is called for int he scene and how it's blocked. This is why there is a certain small group of people on here that repeatedly talk about Jacting Joices, it's not just related to Supernatural or Destiel or Dean. It's about Jensen as an actor, as a performer, and how much he actually pours into these characters he plays. Whether it be the way he moves (or walks), or the expressions he uses, his eyes (yep, he does that too, see above), with his hands, even down to the way he delivers a line. All actors do this in their own way obviously, lean into physicality as well as their performance, but he definitely has his own unique style that I just don't see anyone else replicating. I think there's a reason so many people say no one else could have played Dean the way he could have for example. And if you watch his characters, really watch them, you'll see what he does each and every time. Even smaller characters like Jason from Smallville or Tom from My Bloody Valentine or Alec from Dark Angel. It's all right there on the screen.
So I guess my whole long point is I don't get why antis rip him apart when it comes to this role of Soldier Boy (other than being antis I guess) or say he can't act or that has no idea how to properly analyze his character because he actually did put a ton of work into this specific character (as well as all the others he's done) and you can clearly see it as you watch his scenes in the show. While I wish we could have seen Homelander and Soldier Boy go at it a bit more, and see Soldier Boy truly unleash that Alpha-ness of being the original Supe like had been talked about in promotions and interviews, it doesn't diminish that this character was fascinating and he brought it to life from the script in a way that complemented his own unique style as a performer.
tl;dr Jensen crushed Soldier Boy and Ben (yes, two different characters to embody actually) and I cannot wait to see more of him in any future Boys-related visual story telling, on the show or others.

RAMCOA/TBMC vs conspiracy theories. If this ends up being too long for one part, I'll make a part 2
Tumblr media
In my intro post, I said this. To some people, especially non-survivors or questioning survivors, it may be confusing to try to differentiate what RAMCOA/TBMC vs conspiracy theories. In this post, I'm going to touch on specific theories and compare them to the realities of RAMCOA/TBMC
TW: RAMCOA and TBMC with definitions and moderate detail, CSA
Section 1- What does RAMCOA and TBMC mean?
Note- I explain RA and OA before explaining MC/TBMC because i split the MC/TBMC explanation into two parts (programming and non-programming)
RAMCOA- An acronym for ritual abuse, mind control, and organized abuse
TBMC- An acronym for trauma or torture-based mind control
Ritual abuse- A combination of physical, emotional, and s/xual abuse meant to control and condition the victim's thoughts and behaviors. It is deliberate and performed the same way repeatedly. RA will typically involve specific abuse performed the same way on the same date every year. For example, a specific "ritual" is performed every year on the victim's birthday. Typically but not always religious, spiritual, and/or political in nature. Typically involves multiple victims and multiple perpetrators. May be multi-generational, performed exclusively within a single family, performed in a cult, tr/fficking ring, or other organization/group that may be religious and/or political and can be very large or very small, performed without the victim's parents knowing in places where children spend time, or more. Many people believe that RA cannot take place without MC, but not necessarily programming. When people think of RA, they think of satanic ritual abuse. It's important to note that RA can occur using any religious beliefs and non-religious beliefs as well. When RA is satanic, more often than not it's the concept of satan being used to create fear, guilt, and conflicting religious beliefs in the child, not satanic worship.
Organized abuse- This is an umbrella term for any abuse organized with multiple victims and multiple perpetrators. OA is deliberate. Every aspect is planned by the perpetrators. This is typically seen in cults, tr/fficking rings of any type, places where children spend time, and any type of high control groups. In the case of places such as churches, daycares, schools, and camps, this doesn't necessarily mean that the entire group/organization practices OA. It may be a specific group of workers. For example, in a large daycare: Most of the staff does their job properly. They take care of the children, play with them, do activities, etc. These workers don't abuse the children and aren't aware of the abuse taking place. However, there are three staff members who are all members of a tr/fficking ring outside of the daycare. They all had all the credentials necessary to work at the daycare years in advance because this was planned within the ring for years. They all applied for the job and got it. While working at the daycare, they take small groups of children into another room and perpetrate abuse that they film for the tr/fficking ring.
MC/TBMC- Acronym for Mind Control/Trauma or T/rture Based Mind Control. There are two types of MC: programming and non-programming
Programming- Programming needs to be started at a very young age in order to work. The child is repeatedly t/rtured to intentionally cause the child to dissociate and develop a DID system that is made to function to perfectly suit the abuser's needs. The child is given cues to perform a specific behavior and bring out certain alters.
Non-Programming- This can be done to someone of any age as it does not cause DID. Typically done to prisoners of war/political prisoners, long-term k/dnapping victims, long-term abusive situations, people indoctrinated in a cult or trafficked later in life or in an organization unable to program someone. It can include willfull compliance in an extremely abusive situation, Stockholm syndrome, brainwashing though abuse and t/rture, t/rturing a POW until they switch sides and become completely loyal to the group that is holding them prisoner.
Section 2- Common conspiracy theories used in the context of RAMCOA explained, debunked, and compared to RAMCOA
Note- All of these terms overlap and are often used interchangeably by theorists. If I say that theorists claim an aspect of one of these theories, it's safe to assume that aspect is a part of the other theories.
Project Monarch- Project Monarch is a theorized CIA subsection of MKULTRA. It was first suggested by Cathy O'Brien, a famous conspiracy theorist. After recalling memories under hypnosis, she claimed she was kidnapped and that her and her daughter were victims of PM. She claimed that PM was made of international child tr/fficking rings, dr/g barons, and satanists who used TBMC to make her and her daughter into s/x sl/ves. She accused US presidents and government officials from several countries of being a part of PM and accused Bush of abusing her directly. Over many years of in-depth investigations, experts criticized her claims for including absolutely no evidence and having many inconsistencies. She claims to have a total photographic recall but remembered nothing about the alleged kidnapping abuse. Her later memories were "recovered" under hypnosis, which has been scientifically proven time and time again to create false memories more often than not. In current days, theorists claim that celebrities are victims of PM.
The Illuminati/NWO- Historically, the Illuminati was a real Bavarian secret society in the Enlightenment era. However, it was ended and banned around 1785. In this context, the Illuminati and NWO is a term used to describe all of the international elite of the world including government and royal officials, celebrities, the world richest families and individuals, elite organizations, banks and financial brances of government, corportations (known as resource control), the education system, all organized religions, the media, and all types of government including secret services, military, police, courts, and prisons. Theorists claim that the illuminati is conspiring to acheive world domination and that they are actively programming every citizen through many methods (none of these methods are used in real MC because they're impossible. also, you can't indirectly program someone through the media and education). They also claim that celebrities sell their souls to the devil and are programmed. This entire theory is rooted in anti-semetism and is still blatantly anti-semetic to this day. You can read about why it's anti-semetic here: https://www.cairn-int.info/journal-revue-du-crieur-2015-1-page-128.htm I think it should be very obvious why this is fake. In terms of MC, some of the ways theorists claim the illuminati programs citizens is subliminal messaging in the media, 5G internet, micr/chips in v/cc/nes, and more. Simply put, programming requires prolonged physical t/rture. I think that says enough.
MK-ULTRA- MKULTRA was a very real thing- in the 1950s and 1960s. It ended in 1964. The MKULTRA subsection that ran the latest (as far as I know) was NAOMI. It ended in the 1970s and wasn't about MC. This one is gonna be short and sweet. If you were born anytime after around 1930-1940, you were not part of MKULTRA.
Section 3- Moral panics and other historical events used to deny RAMCOA and why they shouldn't be used to deny RAMCOA
Michelle Remembers- This was the book that sparked the satanic panic. In 1980, a psychiatrist and his patient wrote a book about the real therapy sessions with the patient, a woman named Michelle (who he later married) who went to him to be treated for depression. After screaming nonstop for 25 minutes and then speaking as a five-year-old, the psychiatrist spent over 600 hours hypnotizing her (I've already talked about why hypnosis is bad). In that time, Michelle "remembered" very extreme RA at the hands of a satanic cult. This was investigated for decades and there was absolutely no evidence. During an 81-day ritual in which Michelle claimed to be locked in a cage, she was attending school with no absences. She had no unusual absences any other time either. The extreme t/rture she claimed to have experienced involved her being t/rtured and c/t with kn1ves, and yet she had no scars. She claimed that during the 81-day ritual, they summoned Satan, Jesus, Mary, and Michael the Archangel who removed her scars. The most recent documentary about this book was this year. This book was used as training material for social workers and law enforcement, and the psychiatrist was called as a consultant in the McMartin preschool trial. This book has been used for years as proof for why you cannot repress and recover memories. But what it actually proves is that hypnosis can easily cause false memories, especially 600+ hours of it. Amnesia is a common symptom of trauma, and even more common for anyone with DID as different alters hold different memories. This book proved absolutely nothing about dissociative amnesia.
Satanic Panic and the daycare CSA hysteria - After Michelle Remembers was published, it was said that there were over 12,000 documented accusations of satanic ritual abuse in America that were investigated and proven false. The Kern County case started the daycare CSA hysteria. In 1982-1983, 60 children in Kern County claimed they had been abused by a satanic s/x ring. It started when two children were coached by their grandparents into saying their parents abused them as part of a satanic s/x ring. 36 people were convinced, but no evidence was ever found. The McMartin preschool trial was the second case. In 1983, a parent accused a teacher at McMartin of abusing her son. The school sent out a notice to the parents to check their children for signs of abuse. The mother was found to be a paranoid schizophrenic and an alcoholic, but not before 360 interviewed children claimed to have been abused at the preschool in incredibly bizarre, inconsistent and impossible manners. The way in which they were interviewed was found to have been very suggestive and confusing for the children. No evidence was found. The case lasted 7 years and costed $15 million, but no one was convicted. There were at least 16 famous cases that made up this hysteria. This is used to say that RAMCOA is just the satanic panic all over again and that false memories are made without hypnosis. What it actually proves is that children have active imaginations and are willing to say what adults and peers tell them to say. The children of these daycare trials had no idea what CSA and SRA were, they were claiming what parents, peers, and law enforcement suggested and coerced them to say. Also, it's been proven that researches were not able to implant memories of REPEATED CSA without the use of suggestion while on dr/gs and/or under hypnosis.
False memory syndrome + the false memory syndrome foundation- The False Memory Syndrome Foundation was an organization made to support people who had been accused of abuse after the accuser developed false memories because of therapy. It was founded by a Peter Fryd who was accused of CSA by his adult daughter, along with Pamela Fryd, Peter's wife AND ST3PSISTER. His daughter is Dr. Jennifer Freyd, the doctor who came up with DARVO and is an expert researcher in the field of betrayal trauma.
A founder of the foundation famously said in court and the media "60% of women s/xually abused in childhood reported that the experience was ‘good for them'".
Another member of the board gave an interview to a pro-"MAP" (i'm using the term instead of the real word because of guidelines) magazine. He stated " *MAPS* can boldly and courageously affirm what they choose. They can say that what they want is to find the best way to love. I am also a theologian and as a theologian, I believe it is God’s will that there be closeness and intimacy, unity of the flesh, between people. A *MAP* can say: ‘This closeness is possible for me within the choices that I’ve made.’”.
Another board member and medical professional stated when talking about therapy for CSA survivors "The real message being sold by these new therapy messiahs is the ultimate cry-baby solution to everyone’s pitiful human problems. It’s all someone else’s fault.”
And ANOTHER board member said “A friend and colleague had an adult daughter in therapy accuse him of childhood s/xual abuse.” She says, “It was my best judgment that this was unbelievable of the person I knew and could only been induced by the therapist.”. She said this while having no contact with the therapist or daughter.
Source: https://news.isst-d.org/the-rise-and-fall-of-the-false-memory-syndrome-foundation/ another good article: https://www.thecut.com/article/false-memory-syndrome-controversy.html False memory syndrome is a term used to describe simply having false memories. It was coined and used to describe people who recovered memories of abuse in therapy that didn't happen. However, according to the British Psychological Society stated that while researchers were able to implant memories of a single abuse incident, they were never able to implant memories of repeated abuse. Memory is highly suggestible and changes every second. Every memory you have has small details that've changed over time. Elizabeth Loftus and Jim Coan were able to implant memories 6/24 participants in of being lost in the mall as a child. Wade was able to implant memories of a hot balloon ride in 50% of participants. Loftus also implanted memories of being attacked by a small animal as a child, nearly drowning and being saved by a lifeguard as a child, and having a physical accident at a wedding as a child. She also proved that people viewing a video of a car crash would remember the crash differently depending on the wording used by the interviewer. Pezdek and Hodge tried to implant memories of a painful en3ma in children, but it almost never worked. NOBODY was able to implant long-term PTSD, somatic flashbacks, total flashbacks, fear of s/x, hypers/xuality, physical symptoms of CSA trauma, strange and overwhelming emotional responses and emotional flashbacks, s/bstance abuse, SH, hypervigilance or disinhibition, trauma disorders and co-morbid disorders, dissociation, etc etc.

OFMD Spiral Narrative 49: Whims, Self-Knowledge, and Committment
Intro: What I love most about how season 2 builds on season 1 of OFMD is the spiral narrative structure. Ground is repeatedly and explicitly re-trod from season 1 to season 2, but in season 2 everything goes deeper than season 1. Meanings are shuffled, emotions are stronger and truer, and transformation is showcased above everything. The first season plucks certain notes, then the second season plucks the same ones--but louder, and then it weaves them together to create a symphony.
---
Stede and Ed both make many decisions impulsively (although Ed more than Stede). But their whims are rather different: Ed's are the result of things he's been brooding on for a long time, which rise to the surface and become actions in the form of whims. Practically everything he does in S1E4 falls into this category: the way he's drawn to Stede and acts on that feeling, telling Stede "I'm Ed," the clothes swap: it all points to deeper dissatisfaction and longings.
Stede, on the other hand, acts on whims as a form of denial, as a bad coping mechanism to avoid dealing with or thinking about something he's having trouble getting his head around. The whims build on things that have been bubbling, but they amount to "X makes me scared/nervous/anxious, I'll throw myself into Y." The whims are fundamentally misguided ways of dealing with those X things. Going after the hostages in S1E2 is an example of this: Stede is transferring his fears about how he let down his family (his daddy issues) onto an unrelated situation, trying to prove that he's "adequate."
Some of their whims lead to disaster (Stede's more than Ed's), but others lead to goodness, and all work out in the end (since it's that kind of story). Whims aren't bad in this show, but over the course of season 2 Ed and Stede develop better, more self-aware relationships with whims. Because the problem isn't having those whims, or even acting on those whims: problems arise when they act on the whims without fully considering about how they'll negatively affect others, or engaging with those negative effects afterwards. Things like Stede dragging Olu and Pete into the woods with him to save the hostages, and Ed not thinking about how what Izzy might do in response to Ed's changes.
The first time the word "whim" is important on OFMD is in season 1 episode 10.
Tumblr media
Mary has completely called him on this. Stede had been brooding about his family even before, but his decision to come back is so impulsive that he's not actually wearing shoes when he arrives. Instead of dealing with what a horrible person he thinks he is--or the intensity of what's happening with Ed--he tries to run back into a life that was empty, but safe. It didn't register on him 1) that he might not be welcome home and 2) that he'd be completely breaking Ed's heart. He can't deal with what's happening in his pirate life by running off back to his married life. But in season 1, Stede refuses to own this until he's forced. His reaction to being called on this shit is denial.
Tumblr media
The next time the word whim appears on OFMD, it's also being thrown at Stede by an angry ex after his unwelcome return.
Tumblr media
But this time it's Ed, and this time Stede doesn't reject the accusation. Instead, he goes wide with it: he points out that technically their whole relationship was founded on whims.
Tumblr media
Whims aren't necessarily a point of conflict with Ed and Stede. They can be a point of empathy, of understanding.
Tumblr media
The problem isn't the fact that Stede left on impulse, the problem is that he left. He didn't respect Ed's feelings, at the moment it was most important.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But under the whims, there's love. The whims aren't bad, but they're not a solid foundation for a long-term relationship.
Ed figures this out, and decides he wants feel more secure in his choices in future by considering them first.
Tumblr media
He doesn't want to have whims bubble in his unconscious, unrecognized, and then manifest in real life without him understanding what's really happening in his own head.
Tumblr media
He wants more solidity, more trust in himself and in Stede than he'll feel if they don't temper their impulses.
Tumblr media
Because whims mean his actions may spin away from the kind of person he wants to be--and Stede's important to him, this relationship is important, and he doesn't want it to fail.
Tumblr media
Stede recognizes this, he recognizes why it's important.
And then he and Ed proceed to both completely fail to follow through on that.
Tumblr media
Each acts on one of their classic Stede and Ed whims. Sure, Stede's been "longing" for Ed for weeks--but sleeping together right now, when Stede knew that minus pressure, Ed wanted to take it slow, and when Stede's clearly freaked out by what just happened with Ned and trying to avoid fully dealing with it? That's a "Stede tries to deal with X by focusing on Y" kind of whim.
Still, it's worth noting that Ed doesn't at all blame Stede for acting on this whim and pushing Ed to go faster than he was ready for. The fact that what happened was impulsive isn't used to invalidate the relationship, like in the conversation at Anne and Mary's. There's an acceptance of the reality of Stede's "whims" implicit in the whole conversation. But rather than communicating about what's gone wrong and how to move forward, Ed panics and whims out.
Tumblr media
And Ed's been thinking about leaving behind being a pirate for a while. He's been brooding over his own confusion about his sense of self--and what that means for his relationship--for a while. It's a panic move, but it speaks to real needs for a self-identity that's not dependent on piracy, and for surety that he's emotionally safe.
That said, Ed also isn't considering how this will impact Stede. He leaves insisting "fishermen and pirates are nothing alike." And he's horrified later when he realizes he might not have been there when Stede needed him most.
But by facing these whims and their consequences, each man grows.
Stede doesn't panic when Ed tells him he regrets their night together. He doesn't lash out over any hurt this causes him, or try to displace his pain (though later, he does exactly that and almost gets killed by Zheng). Right in the moment, he demonstrates real growth.
Tumblr media
Stede sits with the kind of problem that used to send him running, and he engages constructively with the consequences of his whim.
Ed, meanwhile, thinks at first that his fisherman whim has worked out perfectly. Except it turns out that whims don't always work out against reality. Then he finds that following whims unquestioned meant he wasn't there when Stede needed him.
Ed's whims speak to real issues. Leaving Stede spoke to a sense of insecurity about himself and the relationship. But when he finds Stede's letter, he rediscovers security in that relationship.
Tumblr media
And when he finds Stede, Stede understands why Ed followed that whim, and doesn't blame him.
Tumblr media
Instead, he offers Ed security. Ed might not fully understand why he follows some whims, but Stede does. And Stede understands Ed well enough that Ed acting on his whims, even when he's careless, doesn't invalidate the relationship.
Tumblr media
And then we come to the boys' final whim of the season: turning a shack (which they have clearly never entered) into an inn.
This could have been a negative whim. Ed becomes an innkeeper for a lot of the reasons he tried to become a fisherman, after all. But this is also more considered a whim than something like "we'll go to China."
Tumblr media
And most important of all, Ed goes out of his way to make sure that he isn't steamrolling his partner by following this whim (like with the China thing). That they're in it together.
And Stede following his boyfriend to become an innkeeper could have been a displacement. He did just wind up in a world of trouble over being a pirate, after all. And he's watching his own ship sail off.
But this isn't displacement from Stede. This is commitment. Faith that the bones of the relationship are solid, whatever whims are laid over them. Knowing his own blind spots, knowing Ed's, and choosing which whim to follow--together.

Emotions are like rollercoasters, right?
Hold tight, D!
Tumblr media
One moment you're enjoying the upward incline, feeling on top of the world. The next you're plummeting without any control, and it all happens so fast that-
I... D? You feeling alright, bud?
Tumblr media
You didn't like it? Okay. No more rollercoasters for you. Yes, I promise. We'll just stick to the hall of mirrors next time...
Tumblr media
It's okay, sweetie. Just heave it all up. It's alright... you're okay, D...
JESUS!! WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU EAT?! 😨 Why is there a goldfish in there...?
You know what? I don't wanna know...✋🏻
Whilst Dieter, uh, pulls himself together, let's take a look this week at how we can recognise the oncoming signs of depression.
It's Friday!! It's time for more Self Care with Dieter & Jett. 🖤
Tumblr media
Oh... Christ. Here we go. 😮‍💨🧻🧻🧻🧻
Everyone has ups and downs.
It's perfectly normal to feel out of step sometimes. And we all go through feeling low in our spirits at some point in our lives.
You do, don't you, D?
Tumblr media
Yeah, and boy don't we know it... 😬
Often people use the term ‘depression’ to describe feeling down or low. But not everyone will have or experience depression.
And not everyone knows or understands what depression is fully, as everyone who experiences it, can feel differently and experience different types of it.
For some it may be fleeting, or even seasonal (Seasonal Affective Disorder, for example). For others it may render us mentally incapcitated for weeks, months, or even years on end.
Depression is a mental disorder of the brain, common, something that anyone can get at any time in their life and is treatable.
Depression isn’t something you can simply 'snap out of’, a sign of weakness, something that everyone experiences, or something that lasts forever.
You sometimes get the brain scramblies, don't you, D?
Tumblr media
Yep. And so do I. It's perfectly normal to feel down and blue.
So, how do you know if what you're feeling is just a case of the blues, or the encroach into depression?
What are the symptoms of depression?
Some symptoms of depression are:
low mood, feeling sad, irritable, or angry
having less energy to do certain things
losing interest in activities you used to enjoy
reduced concentration
becoming tired more easily
disturbed sleep and losing your appetite
loss of self-confidence
feeling guilty or worthless
losing interest in sex
weight loss, or weight gain from comfort eating
thoughts and movements slowing down
☝🏻Now, it's important to note here, that you can feel some, or all of these things, from time to time and it doesn't mean it's necessarily signs of depression. It could mean you're just feeling out sorts and need a time out for a few days, a little rest.
Perhaps you've been burning the candle at both ends and it's your body telling you that you need to have a break...
Tumblr media
Umm, yeah. 🤨
ℹ️ But if you've been experiencing these symptoms for longer than two weeks, most medical practitioners would recommend you take a trip to see your GP.
Especially if you've been experiencing any feelings of mania, or thoughts of self-harm or suicide.
Please remember that you're not alone. Even if it feels like it. There is help out there for you and you don't have to feel like this.
Your tum still feeling all squibbly, buddy?
Tumblr media
Aww, you're worried about our friends? Bless your heart, D. You really are a sweetheart, aren't you? 😘
But it's okay, we'll put some links at the bottom of this post in case anyone needs some more help and support.
Breaking the stigma of depression
Many wrongly believe that people with a mental illness aren’t able to function in daily life, are incapable of making a living, lack interpersonal skills, or are unkempt. These are unfortunate, and often cruel, stereotypes placed on people by others who lack empathy, understanding, and knowledge about depression.
In many families, depression, and other mental illnesses, are looked upon as something shameful. People with depression are perceived as weak and told to “buck up” and “stop feeling sorry for yourself”.
Statements like this can ultimately shame and discourage people from seeking help. Depression is a medical condition.
Like the body, the brain can also get sick sometimes. 🧠 And you would need to treat your brain like you would your body, by getting help to mend it. 🩹
Steps to cope with stigma
Here are some ways you can deal with stigma:
Get help and treatment. You may be reluctant to admit you need any treatment. Don't let the fear of being labeled with depression prevent you from seeking help. Treatment can provide relief by identifying what's wrong and reducing symptoms that interfere with your work and personal life.
Don't let stigma create self-doubt and shame. Stigma doesn't just come from others. You may mistakenly believe that your depression is a sign of personal weakness or that you should be able to control it without help. Seeking counseling, educating yourself and connecting with others who have depression can help you gain self-esteem and overcome destructive self-judgment.
Don't isolate yourself. If you have a depression, you may be reluctant to tell anyone about it. Your family, friends, or members of your community can offer you support if they know about it. Reach out to people you trust for the compassion, support and understanding you need.
Talk about it. Spread the message positively about the harm of stigmatisation. Educate others and encourage them to be supportive. Don't assume they are being deliberately ignorant - they may not understand because they may not have experienced depression for themselves.
Others' judgments almost always stem from a lack of understanding rather than information based on facts. Learning to accept your depression and recognize what you need to do to treat it, seeking support, and helping educate others can make a big difference.
Tips on getting back to the top
Be kind to yourself. I know that's easier said than done sometimes, but take some time to remind yourself that you're only human, and sometimes we feel things deeply within us. And that's okay.
Understand that you are not weak. Seeking help does not make you weak. The fact that you want to feel like yourself again makes you incredibly strong.
You are stronger than you think.
Isn't that right. D?
Tumblr media
Talk about it. It's easy to cut yourself off and hibernate. To feel like you're a 'burden'. You're not. The people that care about you will want to help and support you. So talk to them. If you really feel like there is no-one you can talk to, you can also talk to someone medically or professionally.
Treat yourself. Give yourself moments of kindness by doing things or indulging in things that make you happy.
Little bursts of joy can accumulate in to long term to getting back to yourself and feeling happier.
Tumblr media
That's not what I mean, Dieter. 🙄
It's important to understand that although your symptoms of depression may come and go, or be with you for a while, being kind to yourself will ultimately help alleviate some of that pressure put on yourself.
Feelings and emotions are like rollerocasters; once on board, you've just got to let yourself go through those rickety up and downs. And crazy, scary loop-de-loops. But remember, you will eventually be able to get off the ride when it comes to a halt. 🎢
Now D, shall we get you into bed and I'll give you some nice, warm tummy rubs, hmm? Would you like that?
Tumblr media
No, D. I'm not going to rub your di-
Dieter and I hope that we've managed to explain a little bit more about depression, even if you never experience it. But if you do, or are currently going through it, know that you are not alone and you will feel like yourself again.
And we are giving you the biggest hug right now.
Please be kind to yourself and know that no matter what, you are amazing. You will persevere, and you are stronger than you think you are. 🖤

Hey, I'm a trans (FTM) adult who isn't in the financial/mental place to move out from my parents' home. I told my dad I want to start testosterone soon and he was supportive. My mom, on the other hand, is very transphobic and she's not on board whatsoever (she's also extremely stubborn and won't change her mind). Should I start hormones anyway because at least one of my parents is supportive? Or, should I wait until I can move out?
(Side-note: I know my mom wouldn't kick me out if I did start T.)
Lee says:
Your well-being is the most important thing. Your mental health matters more than appeasing your transphobic mom! If starting testosterone is a crucial step for your mental and emotional health, it’s essential to prioritize it. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to start ASAP, but it does means having a plan to start, even if that plan involves moving out.
Having the support of your father is useful-- let him know if you need him to be a buffer between you and your mother, and ask him to stand up for you if she crosses the line from "unsupportive" to "verbally abusive". If he's okay with you starting T, he can help you to present your case with your mother.
Maintaining open, honest, and respectful dialogue is the only thing you can do to try and help your mom understand your choices. Sometimes people surprise you and change-- even if it takes years to happen.
But even if your mom is stubborn and never understands, if you express your feelings, experiences, and needs clearly, and tried to listen to her concerns and fears and address them, at least you'll know that you did all that you can to try and reach out to her and you won't have any regrets about not having tried harder to salvage the relationship.
Sometimes, providing educational resources and answering questions can alleviate some concerns, so if she's willing, having her speak to another cisgender mom who is supportive of their young adult on testosterone can help, and you can try providing her with the meeting times for your local PFLAG chapter or other parent support group.
Remember, this is your journey, and it’s important to make decisions that align with your needs, values, and well-being. The things I may choose to prioritize may not make sense for your current situation. While I would personally lean towards the "fuck around and find out" type of approach to starting T without your mom's support since you are an adult and aren't concerned about losing your housing, that can also backfire if you're living in a place where you don't feel safe.
Even if you think that your mom wouldn’t kick you out, it’s essential to assess all the risks involved thoroughly, including the risk to you emotionally. You have to weigh the positive impact of starting T and feeling more comfortable in your body (which can help with depression) with the potential impact on your mental and emotional health due to possible increased tension or conflict at home (which can make depression worse).
While you're going through this, getting support from a mental health professional or counselor can be literally life-saving, especially if you already struggle with mental illness. A therapist who has a lot of experience with trans clients can provide guidance, support, and resources to help you and your family navigate this journey. They can also facilitate family discussions, and it can be helpful to have them "referee" tough conversations with your mom-- sometimes having a third party witness helps people to reign in their behavior so it don't get too out of hand.
If you're not in the mental place you need to be to move out, therapy (whether it's one-on-one meetings with an individual therapist or an intensive outpatient group program) might also help with getting the stability you need to be ready to live more independently.
Building a support network outside your family can also help give you an outlet when things are rough at home. Connecting with friends, support groups, or organizations that understand and support your journey can help you get through the tough times.
Everyone says "it gets better" for a reason, but sometimes it gets worse before it gets better. It can be hard to start medically transitioning because you might find changes don't happen as quickly as you had hoped, and there's often a point when you're more "visibly trans" but not yet passing 100% of the time which can make you feel even more self-conscious when it comes to things like using a gendered locker room at the local gym when you don't know whether people in either room might complain to the front desk about someone of the "Wrong" gender being in there.
Even though moving out isn’t an immediate option, it can help to think of developing a plan for eventual independence as part of your transition too. Working, saving money, exploring housing options, learning how to "Adult" and get health insurance, etc, are all things that can move you closer to your goal of transitioning, especially if you decide to wait to start T until after you've moved out.
It can really help to break things into tiny steps (like spending a certain amount of time per day job hunting or aiming to save up a target amount) remember that you not only have a goal but also a plan and a path to get there and achieve that goal.
Personally, I would probably chose to start T, but I'm not you. If you've been ruminating on this for a while and still can't decide what to do, making a simple pro/con T-chart can help sometimes. If that doesn't work, and you've talked it over with your dad to get his opinion, and asked your friends, and you're still not sure, then maybe it's time to consult a therapist again-- they can really help with the emotional side of this type of decision-making. But in the end, it's up to you.
Good luck!! I believe in you!!!
Followers, any advice for anon?

Undead Unlcuk ch.186 thoughts
[Just Like Mama Used to Make]
(Contents: thematic analysis - artistic expression)
Before I say anything else, I just want to note how hard that one bystander saying "what the fuck?" made me laugh. That killed me. With how much wild shit the Union gets up to, it's refreshing to see someone not only witness it, but actually acknowledge it. I still wonder how the audience for Feng's martial arts tournament reacted to all of the weird fights
I also want to point out that in this loop, Enjin's iconic ripped hat look is created from him being thrown through the wall of his mother's hospital room. I'm sure there was some cool story to it originally, but nope, this time he just...biffed a landing, s'all. As usual, no dignity in this series
Onto the chapter, I figured that this chapter was going to continue to expand on the idea of togetherness using food as a symbol like last week, but nope! We're movin' on! Instead of examining how the act of eating can deepen bonds, this week we're examining the difference between mass appeal and individual experience
Enjin's ramen, made with refined technique, is "objectively" good food that pretty much anyone will say is tasty, but aside from the opportunity for custom orders like "extra toppings" or "light on the X," the overall dish is always the same. Without any direct input, Enjin will always produce the same meal, with the expectation that it's so high quality that no one could possibly dislike it. This approach is not necessarily wrong, as consistency is an important factor in food service, but it does mean that if there's any one factor that any one customer doesn't like, they won't end up enjoying it because it doesn't match with their personal taste
It's kind of like if a manga starts out with one of the main leads sexually harassing the other. Sure, the manga as a whole may be great, possibly even the best among its contemporaries, but some people just aren't going to be able to get past that initial bad taste in their mouth. No matter how good the end product is, someone is going to slip through the cracks
Someone isn't going to be able to stand how hot the broth is, someone isn't going to like the mushrooms or the bamboo shoots, and someone isn't going to appreciate seeing a girl get groped by a man whose dick is flopping in the wind. This is an unavoidable truth in the creative process: there is no such thing as perfect. There will always be flaws, and there will always be detractors, but there will also always be fans willing to stand by the art and declare that it's their absolute favorite
This is where Fuuko's ramen comes in: even if only two people out of...what, fifty people(?) liked it, what matters is that the person it was meant for liked it. The point was to show Enjin that no amount of refinement would be able to capture everyone's hearts, but any amount of consideration would capture the heart of the one person it's meant to. Luckily there was another person present who fit in that same niche to drive the point home, but even without that child, I think Enjin would have gotten the point
When it comes to art, you sometimes need to ignore the instinct to try to appeal to anyone and instead focus on creating the thing that you want, the thing that will make you happy. You will run the risk of alienating basically everyone, but by being honest and forthright in how you express yourself, you'll eventually find someone who your work truly resonates with
Fuuko's touch-starved isolation, Andy's hedonistic depression, Billy's stoic responsibility, Rip's dual loves...these aren't things that everyone can relate to, even if they can sympathize. But to someone who feels isolated, who tries to fight against crushing despair with a plastered smile, who bears the weight of the world on their shoulders, or knows what it's like to love more than others say they should, these things will all ring true, and make that reader feel like someone, somewhere finally understands, like someone said all the things they wish they could if they only had the talent or the time
To me, this chapter isn't about cooking, it's about the act of creation. It's about the act of sharing your soul with the world around you and knowing that you resonated with even just one person, and knowing that that one person's world has changed for the better. It's about the act of receiving a piece of someone and being able to smile back at them, telling them that the message has been received
Maybe this won't be what anyone else sees. Maybe this chapter will come across as lukewarm to somebody, maybe even to most people. Maybe it was mediocre at best to someone and they'd prefer something with a bit more of a kick. But someone, maybe just one person, was able to really sink their teeth into this one and savor all of the ingredients, the love and the care that went into creating this piece. Someone was moved to tears, and someone looks at the world just a little differently now thanks to this chapter
Until next time, let's enjoy life

Unfortunately, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm as you. They think Ruin being evil ruins his character and makes him yet another evil dimensional being. That Solar and a few other dimensions are good.
I'VE SEEN A LOT OF UPSET PEOPLE YEA.
Which, I mean, to be fair they're all completely valid!! I can understand how, if you liked Ruin specifically for his charming cringefail swag and you aren't big on angsty scenarios, this is probably a shift that is hard to handle!
But I think it's important to note that Ruin doesn't necessarily seem evil. "Evil" in itself is already something I think is a bit subjective?? But that's a whole other conversation. Point is: Ruin isn't like, Eclipse levels of cruel. If Ruin were like Eclipse, he probably would have done more to scare and intimidate and hurt Sun rather than "oh I've already done everything I needed to, I'll finish watching blorbo from my shows now ^_^!"
Ruin has done something not so great but I don't think it's fair to say right now that he did it because he's evil. We don't even have the full picture yet! This is a cliffhanger babes, we gotta wait for the final presentation before giving a grade!! I can understand why people are upset, but I think we should at least wait until we have all the details before mourning. Ya know?

hey sorry for doing this in a tumblr ask but my pet peeve with ur fics (which i love btw!) is that noah speaks tamil despite his family (or at least his mom) being from andhra pradesh, where they speak telugu. as for darjeeling they speak bengali/nepali ifeofmepepmf. again rlly sorry for bothering u! :)
no worries! this is actually a good reason for me to get into detail for my reasoning regarding that. in my fics noah's mom is from the chittoor district in andhra pradesh, where the official language is telugu but tamil is the first language of 26.75% of the population and is widely spoken in the border areas of the district (source). tamil is also the fifth most spoken language in india (source).
bengali and nepali are the official languages of darjeeling which is why the local that speaks to noah originally uses nepali. but there are over 100 different languages spoken as first languages in nepal (source) and while tamil is not on the list i think it isn't unreasonable that there could be people living in nepal who know tamil as a second or third language (or even aren't fluent but can string a few sentences together).
i think its important to note that while official languages absolutely exist and are often the most common languages spoken within a country, that doesn't necessarily mean they are the only languages spoken. and that people move all around the globe and carry/use their languages with them. in my hometown ive walked into stores where i can hear five different conversations being spoken in five different languages, none of which i speak or understand, and i love that! it's why i enjoy writing multilingual characters!
i hope that this helped you understand my reasoning! disclaimer that my information is coming from wikipedia and that's using 2011 census information but i'm cool with that because a) any potentially more accurate source is going to be less accessible than wikipedia and this is fanfiction so theres a limit to the time/energy im willing to spend on research (though i do want my fics to be accurate) and b) my compfics take place within a few years of 2011
