After some little time the waitress comes back with a bottle of wine and the glasses, serving you and your date some. You two start drinking and having some more fun. The date is going well, your brain is focused on him for now which is what you wanted, until…

-Y/N? Oh what a coincidence!- you heard the only voice you definitely didn't wanted to hear in that date… Jake Peralta

-Hey it's not my fault that duty came in the middle of your cute date- he says in a teasing voice

-It is your fault cause you could've picked Charles or Rosa, but no, you wanted to annoy me - you say in a clearly annoyed voice - Just like always!-

You guys enter to the bar and it's very very crowded, there is a lot of people dancing and drinking and just overall having the time of their lives.

-Shall we mix with the crew and dance?- Jake says in your ear making you get chills up your spine

-I don't dance- you say loudly so he could hear over the music

-I will teach you, come on, it's an order~- he says playfully pulling you in between the people into the dance floor, you regretted to have finished your calm date for this -Here just let the music guide you- He says putting both of his hands on your hips while dancing a little

-I am not drunk enough for this- you say feeling a little embarrassed trying to dance. He laughs

-That's it you're doing it!- He says with a big smile

-If you ever tell any of this to anyone in the precinct I am definitely killing you- you say embarrassed and he laughs

-Don't worry, I am not telling- he says with a smile and gets closer to you -But don't say precinct too hard, people might hear you're not just a beautiful woman having fun~- he says playfully on your ear, you can't keep your cool anymore, you blush

A bunch of people started running away from the bar so they didn't got in trouble, but the most important one was the dealer

You guys check the dealer and find that he has his backpack full of different types of drugs, plus a little small gun and a knife, you take care of it and handcuff him. Jake had called some backup before they got into the bar so the other policeman took the guy into the precinct and you guys followed on Jake's car. The air was a little uncomfortable after all that drama.

-Well you got your jackpot, Holt is gonna be proud- You say trying to break the uncomfortable silence

-I couldn't have done it without you, you're a great actress by the way- He says following the conversation and the uncomfortable air started to fade out

-I tried my best- You say with a smile -You're not so bad yourself, even tho if you ever grab my butt like that again I am smacking you- you say playfully he laughs

-Well maybe I was not flirting only because we were playing undercover- he says without taking his eyes off the road feeling nervous of his own confession. Your eyes widen

Tonight, you and John had something special planned.

Mulaney was always making Hader laugh by switching his lines in Weekend Update with Stefon, but this time John had let you take the reigns. You were newer to writing but he coached you through it, and with a little help from Andy Samberg, you had a sketch that was sure to send your boyfriend into hysterics.

You felt a little bad at first, you didn’t want to upset or embarrass Bill, but John reassured you he did it all the time and he wasn’t upset. He was right, you thought, and what should I be scared about? Even if Bill was mad, he would never hurt me… unless I wanted him to.

Now, it was finally the night of the show and you, John, and Andy, couldn’t contain your giggles about the switched lines you were unexpectedly springing onto Bill later tonight. You made your way over to your boyfriend’s makeup chair where he was getting ready for the show, already in his game show host character suit, and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek.

“Hey, love bug!” he wrapped you up in his arm, “I’m so excited to be performing the first sketch you’ve ever written tonight! That’s huge!”

You giggled at how enthusiastic Bill got over you, you really were extremely lucky. “I gotta admit, I do have a few little surprises planned…”

Bill’s eyes widen.

“You better not make me break up there!”

“Aww, whatcha gonna do about it Hader, punish me?”

This makes his eyes widen even more, before he collects himself and pulls you in closer, whispering in your ear.

“That’s exactly what I’ll do.”

You attempt to control the arousal now pooling between your legs from the rasp in his voice, and see how much you can get away with teasing him.

“Oh noooo, I’m so scared!” you chuckled, giving your lover a snarky wink.

“You’re scared? I have no idea what I’m gonna have to say out there!”

You roll your eyes with affection and place your hand on his neck, “babe, it’s not that bad, I swear. I love you, and I know you’re going to crush it.”

Bill plants a kiss on your cheek. “I love you too.”

The two of you pull yourselves together from the dishevel of the sexual tension, and continue getting ready for the night before exchanging a quick peck right before the start of the show.

After opening with one of your skits with Amy, Bill is up. John flashes you a mischievous grin and you feel your stomach churn from adrenaline.

Only a few seconds in, you’re getting the tiniest smile out of Bill, him shooting you a look as he sees his opening line is changed. By two minutes in, he can hardly keep it together as his lips grow into a goofy smile and he’s nearly doubling over with laughter.

You lock eyes with him as he starts to calm down from his laughing fit, mouthing “good boy,” which causes him to squirm in an attempt to fight back both the laughter and the sudden tent growing in his pants.

By the end of the sketch, you and John are laughing your asses off and Bill is red as a tomato, playfully flipping the two of you off as he walks backstage.

He takes you into his arms and places a chaste kiss on your lips, pinning your hands behind your back when you try to hold his face. “I don't know whether to be more proud of you for your writing or annoyed at you for embarrassing me.”

You kiss him back with a small laugh. “I’d stick with proud.”

He leans down and whispers in your ear, “let’s just hope you decide it’s worth it after tonight.”

Chills run down your spine in lust and anticipation as Bill kisses your cheek and walks away. The rest of the night goes by smoothly, act after act, just as planned. At the end of the show, you and the rest of the crew all join the stage to say your goodbyes, before gathering together to clock out and head to the cast after party.

"Why is no one having a good time? I specifically requested it."

Here’s a thing: my husband used to watch a ton of tv, all the time. Always had something on in the background. But then he got sucked into TikTok and his attention span broke, so I’ve been watching most things myself.

He just put together a snack to wind down from his work day, and came back in for a glass of milk. I’m on the couch and as he swished by he said “I just turned on Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, which in and of itself was surprising, only to continue “and remembered he’s dead…” and I let out a wail I’ve been mostly ignoring.

Andre Braugher, I’m so sad that you’re gone. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of my absolute favorite comfort shows, and I’m not sure how I’m going to stand it now, for a while. Captain Holt is iconic, you can’t watch that show and not fall in love with him.

And now it’s just…sad.

Nine-Nine is another one of those shows I started watching religiously while it was airing on cable, the entirety of the reason being Andy mother-effing Samberg. I have been in love with him (and the Lonely Island, which we should talk about eventually) since that crazy man joined SNL and so nothing was going to tear me away from his randon sitcom. I came for him, obviously, but I stayed for everyone else.

Including, and mostly, Captain Raymond Holt.

I’m not gonna lie, he might be the most realized, well-defined character on the show. The man has layers. Gay, black cop who finally becomes captain of his own squad. Deadly serious, married to a professor, proud dog dad, lover of rules, hard grudge-holder, extremely literal and blunt, with the weirdest sense of humor.

Most of the best moments of this show involve Holt. There’s an entire scene wherein the squad is put on the night shift and it’s fucking with everyone’s relationships and someone suggests his bad mood is because he needs to bone down with his husband. His reaction has me crying every single time.

He has a dance-off with a kid on the street. He goes undercover as a straight person and does it hilariously. He gets incredibly, heavily, disturbingly invested in the Halloween heist game Jake sets up each year. He creates a ridiculous balloon arch for a wedding and gets deeply attached to it, and is infuriated by the fact that everyone thinks it’s weird as hell. He has the most fantastic arch rival relationship with an old partner, to the point where he plans to deliver a scathing eulogy when she unexpectedly dies. He learns the choreography set to Salt ‘N Peppa’s “Push It” and performs it to distract Amy while she’s giving birth.

It feels like a lot of characters on tv are two-dimensional, but good lord, Holt was in full technicolor, and it’s obvious the reason it works so well is because Andre Braugher was a master of his craft. He WAS Holt, for a lot of people, including me. No one else could have stepped in and created that man.

Throughout the show, Jake treated him like a surrogate dad because his own father (lol at Bradley Whitford in that role) was a dumpster fire, and it was really sweet. He just wanted validation, and acceptance.

In the finale, he tells Jake, "On my first day here, I asked Jeffords to tell me about everyone, He told me you were a great detective, but the one thing you couldn’t figure out was how to grow up. Well, I think you’ve finally figured it out. Over the years, you’ve sometimes referred to me as something of a father figure, but I want you to know, if I had had a son, and he had turned out like you, I would be very proud of him.”

I have a dad of my own, he’s wonderful and I love him and we have a great relationship, but y’all, Holt can be a surrogate dad for me too. He can be one for everyone. He always had a pearl of wisdom and he supported the entire squad in absolutely everything, and he was just an excellent human. Who was FUNNY and multidimensional and just…dope.

He’s one of those perfect characters. And they don’t come along that often. So I guess the point is, thank you, Andre Braugher, for bringing him to life, and giving us the gift that is Captain Raymond Holt. I’m glad we still have him, even if we don’t have you.

seokjin — another vibe: you remember how we all found out andy samberg was married to thee joanna newsom and were like what??? but it makes complete sense. they seem so different on paper (andy is… well, andy 🤷🏻‍♀️ and joanna is like this cool harp-playing folk musician) but that’s why it works. someone who matches his energy is also great (please give me jin & dahyun for real i beg) but in my dream world he gets his own harp player.

2022 in movies

In 2022, I had decided to challenge myself to watch 365 movies in one year. I didn't succeed, but I did watch 215 and had a lot of fun with it! I watched many things that I would've never watched otherwise and I discovered that on most days it was very easy to squeeze in a movie. The loss of 2 hours simply made me more efficient!

I'll try this challenge again, but not this year as I'll be busy enough as it is. In the meantime, here are the 43 movies worth mentioning out of all 215.

The ones I couldn't find a category for

Glass Onion (2022). Do I even need to talk about this one?

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967). Even forgetting the historical importance of this movie, it's a good movie. I really enjoy that kind of acting and dialogue.

Locked Down (2021). A couple during lockdown in the UK. It perfectly encapsulates that time and the shift in everyone's perception of what life is and how to live it. It won't go the way you are expecting.

Blood Red Sky (2021). Do you like action movies? Do you like plot twists? Yes??? Then go watch this movie without reading the summary first!!!!!

Strictly Ballroom (1992). All those sparkles.

Love stories

Romantic love

The Decoy Bride (2011). David Tenant is supposed to be getting married to a famous actress but the paparazzi won't leave them alone! So they hire Kelly MacDonald to wear the wedding dress and fool them. It is admittedly a bit boring at the beginning, but the ending is everything.

Splash (1984). Tom Hanks meets a mermaid. HUGE "I love my wife" energy.

What If? (2013). A philosophical take on the friends-to-lovers trope. Loved it.

What’s Your Number? (2011). This one is a hilarious romcom + it has an incredible cast! It stars: Chris Evans (as male lead), Chris Pratt, Zachary Quinto, Andy Samberg and Anthony Mackie. I mean, how??? All of them in the same movie??? How ever did all the planets and the fates align?

Sabrina (1995). The second version, not the one with Audrey Hepburn. It's worth watching just to see Harrison Ford shooting at TVs.

Screwball comedies

Romcoms are out, screwballs are in. My biggest discovery in films for the year.

Bachelor Mother (1939). I LOVE GINGER ROGERS. That's it, that's the whole review. Ginger Rogers is mistaken for the mother of an abandoned newborn. She protests but changes her mind once her handsome boss offers her a stable job so she can support the baby. I'm going to rewatch it every year from now until the day I die.

The Major and the Minor (1942). I LOVE GINGER ROGERS. Ginger Rogers pretends to be a 14-year-old because she can't afford an adult-priced train ticket. A kind soldier takes her under his wing for the trip.

Bluebeard's Eighth Wife (1938). Don't go read what this one is about, just watch it. If you appreciate how cute Gary Cooper is in this one (like moi), I also recommend Ball of Fire (1941).

Easy Living (1937). Jean Arthur gets mistaken for the mistress of a Wall Street giant. Young women messing with rich families in screwball comedies is everything to me.

Other kinds of love (platonic, familial, you name it)

Together Together (2021). Best movie of the year, hands down. About the (completely platonic) relationship between a man who wants to become a father and the woman who becomes his surrogate.

Baby Boom (1987). Diane Keaton as a successful business woman that gets suddenly handed a baby after her long-lost cousin dies.

Turner & Hooch (1989). A possibly OCD Tom Hanks gets a misbehaving dog. There is also a murder investigation going but that's not that important.

Musicals

West Side Story (1961). I've watched both versions and the first one is just better, sorry. It's a great movie if you can make it through the 10 minutes of snapping fingers at the beginning.

Anything Goes (2021). This one is not a movie but a pro-shot of actual musical production. About a group of individuals on a cruise ship (to England?) in the '20s. Sutton Foster is amazing and the production is gorgeous.

Cyrano (2022). I actually watched this in the cinemas. Look, it's from the same director as Pride and Prejudice 2005 and I've had the entire score stuck in my head ever since I saw it, what more do you want? Also, it's set in France but was shot in Sicily, haha.

Period movies

Last Night in Soho (2021). Well, kind of a period movie. A modern-day girl starts getting terrifying visions about the girl who lived in her room during the '60s.

Dunkirk (2017). 1940, on the coast of France, thousands of British soldiers are awaiting evacuation. I cried so hard that my mom came into the room to ask me if I was alright.

The Importance of Being Earnest (2002). What I wouldn't give to see this play in a theatre? I really want to watch more Rupert Everett being a silly British gentleman.

An Education (2009). A British teen in the '60s starts a relationship with an older man with a shady life.

The Queen (2006). Queen Elizabeth's life in the immediate aftermath of Princess Diana's death.

Mixtape (2021). An orphaned teen's search for her parents through discovering the music they loved. It's set in 1999 and has very similar vibes to Turning Red (2022).

Animated movies

Turning Red (2022). Fun and different and the whole ridiculous discourse surrounding it when it came out was just a plus, really.

Whisper of the Heart (1995). My new Ghibli fave. It feels like peace.

Encanto (2021). It deserved that Oscar so much.

Superhero movies

Wonder Woman 1984 (2020). I understand why everyone is upset at this movie, mistakes were made, but it was also an entertaining, enjoyable movie. So??? I don't know. RIP Wonder Woman 3.

The Amazing Spiderman 2 (2012). Frankly the best Spiderman movie out of all the pre-Tom Holland ones (which I watched in preparation for No Way Home) (you will notice that there is not one MCU movie on this list)

Rewatches

Love Among The Ruins (1975). This is one of my favourite movies of all time. It stars an older Katherine Hepburn and Lawrence Olivier. It's a legal drama set in England in the 1910s with big "I love my wife" energy.

Barbie, The Princess and the Pauper (2004). Admittedly, I'm biased. I watched this so many times as a child, in Italian. This was my first time watching it as an adult (and in English) and I must say that I had missed a lot of bits of the plot. Also, as a child, I loved the Princess but now I identify better with the Pauper, #charactergrowth.

Legally Blonde (2001). I watched this years ago and found Elle annoying. But now I realize that it was the internalized misogyny inside of me talking. Now I adore this movie! If you had a similar first experience, it might be worth a rewatch (hello, I literally based this studyblr blog on this movie)

Notting Hill (1999). I had found this one boring the first time around, but admittedly I had watched the first hour, stopped, and then watched the second months later so that kind of ruined everything. It's a very cute movie. The last scene alone makes it worth it.

Documentaries

Our Father (2022). This was so disturbing. About sperm-donor-conceived babies (now adults) discovering that the sperm used to conceive them was not whose they thought it was.

Four Hours at the Capital (2021). About the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The Tinder Swindler (2022). About a man scamming women on Tinder. This was such a wild ride and apparently he is still at it in 2023.

White Hot (2022). Rise and fall of the brand Abercrombie & Fitch.

Coded Bias (2020). How AI & databases are set to discriminate against minorities.

Jane (2017). About Jane Goodall's life story. In case you didn't know, that's the woman who went to live among chimpanzees in 1960, revolutionizing the field. They use plenty of old footage by Hugo van Lawick (her ex-husband & one of the best nature photographers ever) and they are so stunning and peaceful to watch.

Miss Americana (2020). I am, indeed, a Swiftie.

Mercury 13 (2018). Ever wondered why there were no female astronauts in the first Apollo missions? Watch this documentary and find out.
