Propaganda Under Cut
Sakura Haruno
Her husband is gay and her author doesn't know how to write women. So many people say she's the worst but she. DESERVES. BETTER!!! Save her from this franchise.
My baby girl my bestie my best friend. She committed the crime of um being written by kishimoto who both doesn’t know how to write women and somehow writes men in the gayest way possible specifically naruto and sasuke. Like the thing is naruto and sasuke ARE gay and also she gets so much hate for the crime of kishimoto writing her one dimensionally in love with sasuke. I know her personally she is a butch lesbian to me just trust me she’s in love with Ino and has a lesbian thing going on with Karin okay just trust me. My everything. She needs to divorce the loveless lavender marriage she’s in
What is there to say, even? The OG Threat to my 90s anime brain, the only woman I've ever hated with such a passion she made me turn away from the color pink. I used to write fics with my friend where she got left behind on purpose so our OCs could join the Naruto and Sasuke team instead. I loathed this bitch until I was 16 and realized the author simply couldnt write women and decided it was time to make peace with Sakura. It is not her fault she's vaguely written and obsessive over Sasuke. She deserves better. Sasuke and Naruto still should be together and Sakura shouldnt be with Sasuke but I no longer believe this because I hate Sakura, it is because I love her. She deserves a spouse who will actually put in the time to treat her like the hero she is.
Misa Amane
she gets treated in-canon the way fandoms treat female characters that Threaten an m/m ship. it's like, "oh why don't you go sit in the corner and be pretty, misa, while the Men have intelligent conversation and pretend they aren't ten seconds from fucking each other, doesn't that sound nice?" it's infuriating. and MAYBE it's better now but i remember her getting treated the same way in fanfiction too, like we all need to do just as badly by our female secondary characters as fucking tsugumi ohba, but with the added insult of making her be alternately oblivious of the relationship between light and L or actively trying to sabotage it—incompetently, of course, because god forbid misa be allowed dignity or moments of cleverness.
she's one of the first characters I think of when I consider old school fandom misogyny. The annoying bitch and clingy crazy gf allegations were AFTER HER ASS. She's also a lot more intelligent than people gave her credit for, but most seem inclined to take the Very Biased word of our unreliable, narcissistic narrator and his homoerotic arch nemesis and claim that just because she's bubbly and into romance that she's also a complete moron. Which is blatantly untrue. Everyone was afraid of Misa girlbossing too hard. Killing people and devoting yourself to the deranged twink of your dreams even though you know he'll never love you back??? Having a hardcore goth aesthetic and being so Hot even literal Death Gods are into you?? God forbid women do ANYTHING!
Not only is she the victim of yaoi culture, she is the victim of early 2000s misogyny by an author that wanted to introduce a girl character because he knew his male rivals were getting too homoerotic. She is a goth bimbo icon who portrays what I think is one of the few callouts for stan culture and what parasocial relationships can do to both the stan and the idol. The fact that she is a toxic fan of Kira and also hot, funny, sociable is tragic in its own way, which I think the author did try to touch on but was too misogynistic too really get through. Of course, she was reduced to villain status by the fandom and anime alike because she got in the way of the supposed romance in their psychological horror anime

Vi, Caitlyn, Jinx & Ekko having a crush
Requested by RaineRin13 on wattpad- Can you do one on how they react with us after they found out they like us (like if they act normal or get flustered since they like us)?
VI
Tumblr media
Vi didn’t really have a moment where she “found out” she liked you, per say
The feeling was just kind of always there
You both had known each other for a while
Vi and you were always pretty close, some people would say a bit two close
Zaun wasn’t a really place where anything was out of the ordinary, everything was normal
I think the moment Vi realized that you and her weren’t normal friends was when Vi saw two women in a relationship
Either it be in a TV show Vi saw passing by a shop, or in the streets or in the bar
Vi noticed how they acted around each other
And that got the gears turning and Vi realized you both sorta acted like that
Vi knew those women were in a relationship, but you two were not
So Vi started thinking about it, did she wanna be in a relationship with you?
And Vi realized she did, so she didn’t think of you just as a friend
She liked you
And Vi didn’t really know how to feel about it
Vi didn’t know if you liked her back or anything
She didn’t wanna mess anything up
But this is not a if
She was always flirty, even when you two were younger
Girl was always saying something a friend shouldn’t say to another friend
You follow?
She didn’t really know how to say it
Does she just go “Hey! I know you’ve been my friend for like years and all but I like you. You like me back or nah?”
No. She does not.
So she relied on her actions to tell you she liked you
Please pick up on it
Or this is gonna go along for years
(It in fact did go along for years.)
CAITLYN
Tumblr media
Caitlyn has always been a sorta loving woman
But it was always different with other people and you
When Caitlyn started having feelings for you she immediately noticed
She didn’t know how to really deal with them
She never had been in a relationship
And Cait was a sorta hopeless romantic, if that's what they’re called
She was terrified of rejection
So she kinda got awkward around you
Then realized she was being awkward and fixed that
Not a lot though
She was mixed with awkward, anxious, flirty and loving all at once
She acted always different around you after she had those feelings surface
And in the early stages when she realized and you did anything for her?
Or to her, like hug her, smile at her, even fucking say her name
I’m sorry but this amazing woman doesn’t know what to do and is sorta frozen
She is kinda flustered a lot around you
Hopefully this will end when y’all get together
Hopefully soon because she doesn’t know how much longer she’ll last
JINX
Tumblr media
Jinx was very affectionate, a sorta clingy person mixed with a lot of fucking issues
So she had some friends, some crushes along through the years but she was never really that into them
Most lasting a week or two before running off
But when you came along?
Jinx didn’t know she liked you
She didn’t like a lot of people
She knew she cared for you
She hung around you, you thought she acted normal but her normal wasn’t very “normal”
I don’t know how to describe it really
Jinx doesn’t get flustered a lot but she does when she does anything really affectionate with you
Or y’know when those people in movies are hanging out and laughing and one sorta stops and just stares at the other?
The staring one is Jinx when she realizes slowly she cares for you a lot more than others
She kicks up the affection
She acts normal around you for the most part
She did more things for you thats for sure
She was protective alot but it just got more and more over time
Get a new friend?
“Who are they? When’d you meet ‘em? How did you meet ‘em? Can I meet them? Why not? Do they know about me?”
God forbid you find someone that likes you
Jinx shuts that shit down so quick
I mean, she’s Jinx. The mention of her or a mere thought or her presence scares the shit out of anyone
So she uses it to her advantage
She sticks around you 25/8
Never lets you go
When she likes you, she likes you
No way out of it
EKKO
Tumblr media
Ekko knew what it means to like someone or be in love with them
He saw a lot of his friends in the firelights in love
He never experienced it for himself though
He wanted to though
And then you came along
Ekko wasn’t really familiar with the feelings he felt when you were around
He just knew he looked at you differently than the others
Scar had told him that
He didn’t even notice till his friend pointed it out to him
Ekko didn’t really know how to deal with his feelings or why he felt that way about you
He just knew he did, and he liked feeling happy when he saw you
For the most part, he acted normal with you
He just smiled more, laughed more and hanged around you a lot more
He was also more close to you
He hugged you a lot, Ekko liked putting his arm around your shoulder or around your waist
He liked doing things for you
He also liked making things for you
But if you ever reciprocate or be the first to give him something or give affection yourself when he doesn’t expect it?
He gets a little flustered and a bit blushy
He doesn’t know what to do truly
But he hopes his feelings lead to somewhere with you
And he didn’t know that they would
Soon enough

The Greens headcanons (modern!au)
Tumblr media
I was inspired by @phiasaban post. the second I saw these photos I had an idea for the modern au and just wrote it all down in 10 minutes (this has nothing to do with the show! it’s just me looking at the photos, mind you):
Alicent is a single mom. loves to cook (def cooks when she’s nervous or upset), has a record collection, loves to dance when she’s tipsy. can be a strict parent when she’s pissed (or really tired) but overall is a mama bear (to the point of getting into arguments with teachers — "yeah I think I know what's best for my kids"). she's an angry driver, keeps her car super clean. dresses casually (plaid shirts and jeans), but whenever she puts on a dress she looks so smoking hot it makes every man turn around after her. tons of them flirt with her but she mostly looks uninterested. deep inside is afraid to get her heart broken again. makes friends with her neighbor Cole (he let her borrow flour a few times). he is totally in love with Alicent and everyone sees it but her. he's okay with her taking all the time she needs.
Aegon is a fuckboy but a very apologetic one. has no cruel intentions, he just “loves women so much, he can’t help himself”. either writes songs or poetry. has the weirdest captions on instagram. drinks wine 24/7 but manages to look sober when needed. ends up falling in love with one of his closest friends who’s been tolerating him for years, helping him sober up, making him breakfasts, giving cruel reviews of his sappy poems. one day she just casually picks him up in her car, they’re driving in comfortable silence, she asks him how his day went — and it suddenly strikes him that she’s the one. he’ll probably tell her right away ("I think I'm in love with you" — and she sharply presses the brakes). but it will take a couple of weeks for him to fully sober up, convince her to go on a date with him and then to give him a chance. will plant kisses all over her face whenever she’s upset. he loves movie dates, but his sense of humor is questionable.
Aemond is into sports (pick whatever you like, but he doesn’t look like a team player to me lol). very competitive, self-disciplined, doesn’t talk much. girls swoon over him and he ignores them completely. secretly is a nerd, reads a lot (and pretty much anything). falls in love with a girl who challenges him but will also stand by his side in every situation imaginable even if he’s wrong (she won’t shy away from telling him the truth when it’s just the two of them, though). he’s incredibly protective yet very gentle. it's all about forehead kisses, leaving sweet notes for her, buying flowers for no reason. not a fan of PDA's but will hold her hand every chance he gets. remembers every single anniversary. they’ll probably adopt a dog. he gives the best hugs and loves when she plays with his hair. they can talk about their favorite books for hours and she loves being the only one who gets to see that side of him.
Helaena is into astrology and tarot cards. has a cat (or three) and probably a little pet snake. talks to animals (I also think she’ll be vegan but don’t quote me on that). buys a lot of plants (and gives them names), maybe in attempt to compensate for her smoking. some may say she has a resting bitch face, but those ppl clearly never saw her smile, 'cause it lights up her face and she looks absolutely adorable. she’s the first one to steal their mother’s car (Alicent is not surprised and just texts her "no smoking in the car!"). annoyed with her brothers most of the time but god forbid someone dares to hurt them. carries a pocketknife (it looks very pretty, decorated with crystals and stuff), wears long t-shirts. adventurous but it takes time for her to trust people. will fall in love with someone who’s kind (and maybe introverted?). they’ll get matching tattoos (smth very small and simple), go on road trips and music festivals. yes, I can totally imagine her being queer.
➡ next: modern!Aemond Targaryen, college au part 1 — “All yours” part 2 — First time for everything 💌 my masterlist you can also check out the playlists I made for Aemond and Aegon 🎵

"And now for you, Madam Mina, this night is the end until all be well. You are too precious to us to have such risk. When we part to-night, you no more must question. We shall tell you all in good time."
I have been thinking about this for a while. I simply cannot stop ranting about it.
Here, Van Helsing is not leaving out Mina just for being a “fragile woman”. Her safety is really only an abstract concept in the making of this decision.
"We are men and are able to bear;"
This is about building the men’s confidence. He singles Mina out as the weakest among them to empower the men. Take note that he didn’t run this by Mina at all, though he had the chance to? Only Jack? Because her input does not matter to him, but Jack's does. If Jack disagrees, he can reason with him. If Mina disagrees-- oh, well that doesn't matter! She won't.
He designates Mina as their damsel. Now, he doesn’t mean to make her a damsel in distress, but she’s forced to become a damsel nonetheless. She is made into a symbol of domesticity. She is the woman they will return from the war to who will fawn over them and make them all feel better after their wild vengeful conquest. This whole thing is a show to rally the men by pointing at Mina and saying “this is the object we fight for!” which is so damn dehumanizing.
"but you must be our star and our hope, and we shall act all the more free that you are not in the danger, such as we are."
She is the star guiding their way. She’s their cheerleader. If her safety mattered so much, VH would be sending her home. Or, at the very least, he’d be decking the Harkers’ room with garlic- maybe even letting someone stay behind to keep her company/protect her. But it isn't about Mina’s well-being, this is a fucking ego trip. She has to remain in the asylum, only theoretically safe, so the sight of her will warm their mannish hearts or whatever garbage.
And Mina. Mina accepts this. She accepts that her job as a woman is to shut up and be pleasant so the boys don’t have anything to worry about. VH had to go through much trouble to get Lucy comfortable with talking about her pains, but now, he is content with telling Mina to not be a bother to them.
Mina loves being a woman. She has internalized misogyny, but the womanly things she feels disdain for are the things men revile. She provides much-needed emotional support, but god forbid she acts hysterical and ruled by her emotions. She scorns women who are different for their own sake (which is evil and selfish) and preens when she is called exceptional because she is different for other people's sake (which is noble and acceptable).
VH weaponizes Mina's femininity against her, and it is so heinous. He is well-intentioned, but he values the morale of his "soldiers" over her personhood.
There is so much more to say continuing from this point for how fucking wrong this decision is, but those things won't be apparent until tomorrow. To hint at it? I don't think Jonathan catches onto VH's greater purpose in leaving Mina out. I think Jonathan is truly thinking of Mina's safety first and foremost and letting himself be led astray by men who claim they know better.
All the men, even Jonathan, seemed relieved; but it did not seem to me good that they should brave danger and, perhaps, lessen their safety—strength being the best safety—through care of me; but their minds were made up, and, though it was a bitter pill for me to swallow, I could say nothing, save to accept their chivalrous care of me.
Mina is shocked that even Jonathan is assenting to this. This is not normal for her, and though she doesn't want to admit it, she wishes Jonathan would disagree for her sake. But she does not speak up for herself, thinking that doing so would be a selfish burden on the men, and god forbid she ever be a burden.
Chivalrous care. Chivalry is not done for the sake of women. It is entirely for the pride of men. I feel like Mina recognizes this, though she is prone to letting herself be mistreated. She knows that to go against Van Helsing's goodwill would hurt his fragile ego, and she couldn't possibly do that.
Manlike, they had told me to go to bed and sleep; as if a woman can sleep when those she loves are in danger! I shall lie down and pretend to sleep, lest Jonathan have added anxiety about me when he returns.
This is not healthy. But this is what she's so used to. Both she and the men pulled this same coddling behaviour with Lucy, and now it's Mina's turn to be left alone "for her own good". She and Jonathan were finally taking their first steps toward the honesty Jonathan values so much in marriage (a sentiment shared by Lucy). Hell, the team was coming together on the promise that they would be true!! And yet now, back to painful secrecy.

Potiphar's Wife
Osferth x older woman!reader
Cw: technically incest as reader is his dead uncle's widow
Prequel: Temptation(Aethelred I x reader)
Tumblr media
You are Potiphar’s Wife and he is Joseph the Dreamer.
He prays daily for God to afflict him with an illness of sorts to take his lust away.
He has already tried to sate it with a serving girl in the stables and yet he could not stop thinking about you.
You were old enough to be his mother, not only that, you were King Aethelred’s widow and therefore his aunt by marriage.
It would be sin to bed you.
But he wants you, desires you in a way that makes him feel ashamed of the cross he bears around his neck and on his chest plate.
“Go on, I do not bite.” You say as you beckon him to approach you as you sit naked in your bath.
You are temptation in the flesh, they say you had to be shut in here because his late father was afflicted with that same lust he has now.
You were beautiful, so beautiful that Aethelred of Wessex sent for you the moment his first wife died and made you his queen. So beautiful the Witan feared you would manipulate Alfred into setting aside Ælswith for you so they had you wed to some ealdorman far away. An ealdorman who died mysteriously without any heirs save for the child you had with the dead king.
Uhtred had recommended him to take up this job of guarding you after a raid into your lands. Damn Lord Uhtred for sending him here.
You are Potiphar’s Wife and he is Joseph the Dreamer.
She tempts you with sin each passing day, but unlike Joseph he doesn’t flee from you. No, Osferth goes to you like a moth to the flame.
“It is not proper to intrude on a lady when she is in a bath.” He said keeping his eyes on yours to avoid his weak defenses from breaking down further.
“Perhaps I don’t want us to be proper, Osferth.” You say with a smile that has him stuttering like a fool. “Perhaps I want you to be a man and take what you want from me.”
“It would be sin, my lady.” Osferth clutched his crucifix for strength.
“If we do not sin, how can God save us?” you question his resolve and with that it begins to crumble.
“I will stop tempting you if you wish for me to do so, Osferth. If your faith in God forbids you from bedding me, then tell me so mow and I will stop.” You continue and he finds it difficult to agree and reject you.
“And if I said I don’t want you to stop?” He manages to regain his tongue and he asks this. He is a man grown, bloodied in battle and versed in the ways of carnal sin.
If you want him, and he wants you, what difference would it make when he’s defiled plenty of women both virgin and wed alike.?
“Then I’d ask you to remove your clothes as they’d ruin my bath.” You answer sweetly and he begins to remove his robe and chest plate.
“I only have one request, Osferth.” You speak and he paused as he reached to remove the cross from his neck.
“Anything you ask, I shall give to you, my lady.” He says boldly wondering what sort of request you’ll make.
“The Crucifix stays on.”

A Pretty Long Rant on RPF shippers in the context of David Tennant and Michael Sheen
the entire georgia/anna discourse is so. bullshit. because those are actual, real people, with real lives and real relationships with those around them
Regarding dt and gt, just saying, no one has five children together as part of a pr stunt. Same with Michael and Anna.
And the fact that rpf people fail to realise this is concerning- taking the "my wife" jokes quite literally. News flash, it's a fucking joke. It's not something gt and al are making up to cover up for the fact that their respective partners fell in love with each other (yes, this is an actual take i've seen on this matter)
And idk if the rpf people are just dumb or are fully aware of what they're doing, despite the fact that they're completely tearing apart the lives of real people.
Another retort I've often seen is that fans have the right to criticize celebrities. Yes, yes they do. But breaking down a marriage spanning over a decade isn't criticism! You're creating fake problems out of thin air and for what? Genuinely, for what?
Rpf shippers just automatically assume the worst in both Georgia and Anna, and you know what? God forbid women do anything. Because that's exactly what this is.
They're completely vilifying gt and al because... they're in a relationship with their "blorbo actors?" They're acting like gt/dt and al/ms are fictional characters that you can play around with like dolls but you can't play around with real people's lives! Simply put, it isn't ethical.
I feel like the rpf people just fail to understand the meaning of “real”, because I don’t even know how one can feel so alright and happy by tearing apart the lives of real people. The fact that people are finding every possible way to find problems in their current relationships to suit their fantasies is so fucking disgusting.
Okay now if you're with me so far, I'm impressed. Stay with me because I'm not done yet.
Regarding Georgia, don't rpf blogs just love to criticize her and her parenting methods? That Georgia's just lazy and only wants to drink wine, but omfg. wtf. She has fucking 5 children. I don't care what you think, managing those many kids is NOT an easy task. But also... posts I've seen on this matter never seem to bring up David? Why? Isn't he a parent? Shouldn't he also have a role in parenting? Whatever Georgia does surely won't be against what David believes, right? Wake up, rpf shippers, wake the fuck up.
David almost definitely does have a role in the parenting (anyone willing to fight me on this, come off, I'll give you the reasons) but since he’s all over London at the moment, he probably doesn’t have much time. Which means that gt has to manage 4-5 kids all by herself. So she does actually deserve a break, more than anyone else. But she doesn’t because wahoo god forbid women do anything.
And putting all that aside, what the hell gives rpf people the right to hate on her as if they know her irl. Their default behavioral status is set to mean and bitchy and that’s just. concerning. rpf people need to understand the difference between real life and fiction istfg.
Okay, i swear I'm nearing the end of this rant, please don't go yet.
Sometimes fans do have the right to speak up against an UNHEALTHY relationship. There are multiple examples all over the place where one person has expressed dissatisfaction but no one took them seriously. Except… neither gt/dt nor ms/al have expressed dissatisfaction. At all. It’s actually the exact opposite where they keep fawning for each other. There’s 0 suggestions of any of them being unhappy in their respective relationships apparent from yall overanalyzing their body language to the point where it becomes false.
Do Georgia and Anna ship themselves with each other and ship David with Michael? Yes. But that's a fucking joke. Learn to take a joke, yalls, it will get you a long way. And even if they are the ones doing the shipping, so what? That doesn’t give you the right to. It’s their lives. You’re just a person viewing their lives from a small peep hole known as Instagram.

Hello! I am Caitriona anon. My ask was prompted by a comment from succulently speaking who commented in your post a few days ago “what has Sam done wrong and what exactly do you want him to do”? You responded he needed to step up his game. That’s why I asked about Caitriona because I thought it funny how much you post about Sam and what he should or shouldn’t be doing and I thought, I wonder why Caitriona doesn’t get that same treatment? I've been following you since you got here. I understand your position. My only quibble is I don’t think of them as one entity and I think Cait especially has pushed against this for years. She’s offended at the notion. As I said, of course it's your blog and you can post whatever you'd like and certainly don't owe me an explanation, but I thank you for the one you gave anyway. I’ll continue to read you because I enjoy you. I hope I didn’t offend or that I was impertinent.
Dear (returning) Caitriona Anon,
For an Anti, you sound pretty literate and polite. So, I am going to answer you and try to keep this dialogue line open. Try me: keeping dialogues open is my bread and butter, IRL. Has been so for twenty years.
Thank you for understanding my position, but I do not really need to be 'understood', like a minor Romantic poet by his posterity. I try very hard to rationalize yours and I believe it is your constitutional right to believe what you want about this saga. Conversely, it is my prerogative to believe exactly what I want about it, based on what I do consider to be relevant facts. Not social media, press circus or PR induced tacky blogger manipulation.
Having said that, it is also my constitutional right to express my opinions and try to encourage others to do so, in a no-drama, friendly environment. It would also seem that determined Mordor to marginally step up their game, for I seem to be the nightmare these people collectively manifested every single time they howled 'the shippers are stupid', on full moon nights.
Shippers are everything but stupid, pumpkin. They are witty, funny and completely immunized to bullshit. For rhetoric bullshit with honors is your question: why Caitriona doesn’t get that same treatment?
You know very well why and I am going to tell you a Romanian proverb: cine nu muncește, nu greșește. Loosely translated: no work, no mistakes. How do you want me to say anything about a statue, who doesn't show us anything else about her life anymore, spare her outfits, her make-up and some rare events, with or sans the PA? Oh, and marGINally, her erratic business projects, for ever ongoing, hinted and never ever, God forbid, materialized? SAG-AFTRA strike? News of it never seemed to have made it to Caitrionaland. Israel-Palestine conflict? Prudent silence, but hello Tilda, darling, how are you. Ukraine? Last I heard/seen, a short appeal for helping the refugees and then crickets. Women's rights? Again, a short snippet on Persia, then mum. Just what the fuck is this supposed to be? Surely not a coherent PR strategy for a gifted, intelligent and fun (yes, fun!!) 44 year old actress who wants to keep her lucky strike going on! Let me tell you: she doesn't come across as dignified. She comes across as despising, condescending and entitled. Too cool for school, too sexy for your car, peons.
She is not Queen Victoria, for crying out loud, and we are definitely not amused!
You then proceed to say 'she pushed against it for years'? Please, do not insult my intelligence! She pushed against shippers who deface the nice Narrative, when she needed sympathy and massive support for her Belfast promo, unwittingly making a major PR blunder and for ever fracturing this fandom in at least two savagely antagonistic camps. Then, a cold, totally DGAF attitude, including towards her stans: tough to be her stan, when your Goddess is more silent than a Poor Clare (pun totally intended) nun! And she denied being an item with S (which is a complete, pious lie), because that is the Narrative, ever since IFH.
So, it's safe to say: yes, public Caitriona Balfe is dismissive of the notion, but since when is social media indicative of an undeniable or even intimate truth, especially in that particular world of hers? Oh, and by the way: sorry to be pedantic, but - it's offended by the notion, not 'at the notion'. Simple curiosity: you translate your thoughts from which language, exactly? My bet would be either German: bei, or Russian: обидеться на - yes: literally 'offended at'.
My complete Romanian proverb includes a conclusion. In full, it would be: cine nu muncește, nu greșește, dar nici nu reușește. No work, no mistake, no success.
How I wish to be proven wrong, Anon, on that one: you can't even imagine! Thank you for the time you took to answer me. I am afraid we agree to disagree. Change my mind? Not in a million years.

“Ada shouldn’t have treated Leon that way! I hate her!”
Listen. I love Leon so so so so so so much, but I think Ada was in her right to be mean and manipulative because he was a fucking cop! Doesn’t matter how nice and sweet and naive people think he is in RE2. Leon chose to become a cop. The structural system of law enforcement is corrupt in it’s function. If there was no outbreak in RC, Leon still managed to join one of the most corrupt police departments by accident. Even if he didn’t directly participate in the messed up shit happening with or without Umbrella, he’d either become complicit in the bullshit his cop friends were doing and let it happen, or he’d quit. Because there are no good cops! All of the good cops you hear stories of quit since they realized the system they were trying to challenge and make better wasn’t a task they could take on alone, and they were very much alone in their attempts while employed as cops.
Brad Vickers is the best example that the corruption in RPD was way to deep to handle considering he had to keep his head down and look away in order to even keep his job. Everyone else? Barry went into hiding. Chris left the country under the guise of a vacation to do further investigation. Jill got fucking suspended! There would be no amount of fixing Leon could feasibly do without immediate consequence and danger to his person, so he’d either quit, or become another shitty cop.
“But-, but- what about in RE4 when Ada’s not nice to him? :( He didn’t want to join US STRATCOM.”
I think Ada was absolutely within her full rights to be mean and manipulative to Leon, because he was a part of a very illegal secret government task force.
Also, I don’t know where this desire to baby Leon comes from post-raccoon city. I don’t mean emotionally, but I mean with his capabilities. Leon was trained to deal with this shit. Ada trusts him and his capabilities to remain mostly hands off. Leon trusts Ada and her capabilities to not go after her. He doesn’t even report her presence to Hunnigan, because he’s a big boy who knows the government will shift or split his priorities from saving Ashley to detaining/apprehending Ada even if that’s not what the president wants.
I don’t give a shit how much you dislike Ada, but stop saying you dislike her for Leon’s sake since that’s so disrespectful to him. He’s not an idiot. He’s not a baby. He may not always know what he’s getting into with Ada, but he does trust her to an extent. She trusts him to that same extent. It’s a strong mutual respect built on that trust even when they don’t see eye to eye on things. That’s why their dynamic is so interesting to explore in the first place. To be honest, I’m just happy the remakes seem to be putting Ada in the hands of more competent writers who aren’t flip flopping about how she should function in the narrative.
Like, honestly, the blandest hate takes on Ada in this tag always have me saying “god forbid women do anything!”

Its during season 2 when Din and Boba ask for Bo Katans help to rescue Grogu. She spends most of the scene being quite racist towards Boba Fett specifically targeting him because he is a clone.
Saying he's a disgrace to his armour, that he shouldnt be considered a Mandalorian, and calls his father "his donor" and says shes heard his voice thousands of times and thats why shes being hateful about his existence.
Its very uncomfortable to watch because shes white, being racist to a character played by a Maori man. But his helmet is on during he scene to make it look less racist.
Maybe its because im indigenous too, but the racism in that scene stood out a lot and it upsets me the show refuses to acknowledge it. (Id recommend a scene rewatch its really jarring to see compared to how they portray her this season)
oh oh my god
thank you for telling me, that scene went right past me. bo-katan’s racism is so… yikes. i know there’s general racism towards clones by a lot of people but the fact that bo-katan outwardly expressed it right to BOBA FETT’S FACE.
honestly tcw bo-katan seemed much more likeable just because her hatred and rage made her an interesting character. no hate to katee but live action bo-katan is so dulled down and her getting a THIRD CHANCE at the darksaber is getting so fucking boring like. just bc she’s a woman doesn’t erase her blatant racism and terrorism. ik it’s fun to joke about “god forbid women do anything” but like real talk here, bo-katan (in the live action at least) is getting more and more unlikeable. i don’t want to see any more of her. i’ve seen a lot of people saying that they hope she dies and frankly it’d do her better if she did. make her go out doing something honorable in parallel to her horrible past.
handing the show to bo-katan is such an awful take. i try to avoid controversy in the fandom but giving the “princess” role to a white woman who’s very much racist and has also expressed her hatred towards followers of the creed (calling din’s covert a cult when miss maam was literally part of the death watch) is so UGHH. like i love women but get this clown out of here. i tried liking her, i did. i actually really liked her in the clone wars and her characterization there was so interesting but putting her into the live action and doing her dirty just feels so wrong.
i’m sorry that scene was so jarring for you. i’m indigenous as well so i understand how you must feel about it. i’ll probably rewatch it soon just to remember what happened.
taking away the spotlight from a man of color just to give it to a racist white woman who’s lost the ONE thing giving her importance twice and then giving it back to her for a third time is just. like respectfully, i don’t think ANYONE wanted to see that. and people who are like “it’s good that din gets to be a side character! bo-katan deserves to be the princess she is!” are literally lying to themselves. favroni is systematically giving us bad content so our standards are lowered and we celebrate the smallest things even if they’re terrible. bo-katan being a princess is a boring idea and taking away din’s development into WHY he doesn’t want the saber is just bad storytelling.
i have so much more to talk about but i just KNOW people are gonna get mad 💀 sorry to hate on your fav but she is a racist white woman who plays no importance unless she has an object that she’s lost 2 times before.

angst? in MY google docs? it's more likely than you think! for the WIP game pls 👀
yes hello 👀
I never got very far with it unfortunately but it was a fic where Fennec (seemingly) gets killed on a job and Boba, shall we say, Loses It. and goes on a murder spree with Din reluctantly dragging along cause he can't leave his husband like that but also maybe it is possible to force someone into therapy
eventually Boba has nobody left to kill and goes back to the throne of Mos Espa, where they find Fennec worse for wear but pretty fine as far as presumed-dead BFFs go.
Boba: ARE YOU TELLING ME I SPENT THE LAST SIX MONTHS KILLING BECAUSE I LOVED YOU AND YOU'RE FINE?! Din: wait what 🤨 Fennec: wait what 👀
power throuple on the way! "i can fix him" is old news, "i can make him worse and think he's hot when covered in blood" is breaking now
there's more angst on the way because Fennec got her very own clone chip (v2.8.3.19) and later tries to murder both of them and it becomes a big problem for Boba and Din but god forbid women do anything honestly
also the angst that kicks things off, just for you
“Fennec!”
He’s not used to screaming, and it rips through his throat dry and sharp, like a mouthful of sand. He grabs for her, frantically, his fingernails scraping down the back of her glove but not catching, even as she twists her hand, trying to grab his, and then –
She’s gone.
And half of Boba’s soul has gone with her.
He lies there in the sand, too stunned to move, his fingers still outstretched. He’d been so close. He’d just needed a little more. A little more what? Time? Luck? Reach?
He’d just needed to be a little better. And he wouldn’t have failed her.
Someone grabs his shoulder and Boba flinches, lashing out on instinct, but Din catches his hand before it hits. Din’s shaking his shoulder, tone frantic, but Boba can’t make out the different words. Din’s always been sensible, no matter what comes his way, and his logical nature won’t desert him now. He’s probably asking if Boba’s hurt, or maybe if he can move.
What’s it matter, anyway?
He shoves Din’s hands off, smacking at his wrists until he lets go. The sand shifts unsteadily under his feet, or maybe it’s still, and it only feels like the entire world is rolling upside down. He feels hot, like a thousand needles are sliding under his skin, red-hot, spreading heat through his veins until it’s all he can feel. He staggers away from Din, scanning the horizon and seeing nothing. The ground keeps moving. It’s never where he expects it to be, and he stumbles, twice, before he falls.
His hands curl around fistfuls of sand. The grains are gritty against his palms, he knows, he tries to ground himself in it, but his thoughts are too distant and disjointed to focus. Sand’s like that. It falls and tumbles and slips through your fingers. Slips like Fennec had, out of his reach.
Why hadn’t he been good enough?
Din says his name, he thinks, and he can hear the sound of boots against sand as Din catches up to him again. Boba can hear him talking, but the words all blur together, buried and separated by Boba’s ragged gasps as he tries to catch his breath, just for a moment. It’s not working, why isn’t it working, of course it’s not working, he’s always been broken–
“Mesh’la!” Din says, the word spoken harshly for the first time.
Boba looks up.
Din’s still holding the bag, fingers curled tightly around the top, turning his back against the sand blown up by a sudden scuff of wind. There’s a tight set to his shoulders that Boba doesn’t recognize, at first, as fear. He’s never seen Din afraid before. He never wanted to see Din afraid.
He raises a shaky hand, palm up, and Din leans down to set the bag in the sand between their feet before taking Boba’s in both of his. The leather of his gloves is warm. Strange, Boba thinks, how Din always feels warm to him when they’re out in the sun. It’s important to him, though he can’t place why, or when it started to mean something to him. He just never liked to be cold, even when it was all he knew.
“Talk to me,” Din murmurs, his words nearly taken by the wind as it grows stronger.
Boba wishes the wind would rob him of speech too. He doesn’t have the words for this. Nobody could. And how? How can he make Din understand? How can he admit his sins in a way that ensures Din won’t absolve him of them?
“She didn’t like to be cold either,” he says.
“What? Boba, who? Where’s Fennec?”
“I killed her.”
Din draws back a little, Boba’s hand still in his. His shock leaves him frozen, still and distant. Out of Boba’s reach, where it’s safest for him. Din’s gloves feel cool and rough now. Boba doesn’t like the difference.
He closes his eyes, tips his head back, and draws his hand out of Din’s, letting the whispers in the wind take what remains of him and scatter it across the sands.

Round 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under Cut
Casca
She is part of a weird fucked up love triangle with two dudes. All three of them are honestly kind of terrible for each other but she gets shoved aside in favor of the two dudes in most fics and is not allowed to grow past the toxic relationships of her past. Also she’s a cis woman who dresses pretty masculinely (because she’s in a mercenary band) so she gets type casted as the mean lesbian friend, when she’s straight in canon
I've seen more than one Yaoi Shipper say that Casca should have died during this one big canon event as opposed to being assaulted by one of the people in the Yaoi Ship, which of course conveniently would remove her from the narrative and as an obstacle to said Yaoi Ship. Aside from that specifically, though, I think it's particularly cruel to imply that being killed is a better outcome than being a victim of SA, and is an example of the contempt fandom on the whole has for female characters who act traumatized - particularly when both male characters in the ship have similar trauma and its never implied they should have died rather than be assaulted.
She's an incredibly interesting character in her own right with really good dynamics and parallels to Griffith and Guts, and the way those three play off of each other is integral to the story, but most of what I've seen completely ignores her in favor of focusing on only Griffith and Guts
Yennefer
Constantly villainized because one way or another she gets in the way of a MLM ship (though at least one of them would probably be fine with a poly relationship). In the show version of her, her love interest bound her to him via magic, never told her until someone else brought it up despite it the bond causing them to meet over and over, her love interest didn’t understand why this upset her and brushed it off and still has never apologized for it because apparently it was the only way to save her life, she had better chemistry with Jaskier (the other half of the MLM ship) and had a semi-decent rivals to frenemies thing going on, the show took away her powers (which never happened in the books) to have her go on a pointless quest to get them back that worsened her relationship with her love interest because they had her try to kill her love interest’s adopted child (which now justifies why he doesn’t need to apologize of course), and all of that was after she’d already had an arc regarding sacrifice and how power wasn’t really what she wanted.
she's an incredibly powerful mage and drop dead gorgeous and deserved so much better!!! justice for yen
God forbid women do anything. She either gets hate or is ignored, really classic stuff. And she's Geralt's gf but you know, *gestures at geraskier*

Dude what is up with the person in ur replies. “Trans men don’t face transmisogyny but they do face transmisogyny” like???
The need to completely separate the experiences of trans women vs trans men, or even worse, reinvent the binary of “good gender vs bad gender” just hurts trans men, trans women, and the rest of us.
Always always in these conversations, a trans person (not even always or most often a trans woman) comes in with the hot take that anything that trans men face that isn’t “minor” transphobia, is just “misdirected” violence actually meant for trans women.
Trans men can’t ever be victims because they’re men, trans women and other trans folks can’t ever be laterally aggressive, because it’s Man vs The Oppressed.
These talks always are so hypocritical.
Tumblr media
Trans men, apparently, are all supremely deeply privileged with male privilege in every aspect of their lives from the moment that they ID as men, and if they fail to recognize and atone for their Male Oppressor Status, then they are simply oppressing everyone more with their privilege. I definitely know what a privilege is.
There is common enough belief that the only misogyny trans men face is misogyny directed by the patriarchy at cis men. “Boys can’t cry”, male victims of SA, toxic masculinity, that sort of thing. When in reality, every single trans man who doesn’t pass for cis in 100% of scenarios is going to experience the usual levels of misogyny society puts on women also.
Apparently if you don’t pass it’s your fault, and you actually bring it upon yourself so you can be a victim, I have such good and healthy views about oppression.
At absolute best case, some trans men who pass as cis in all scenarios and can be stealth, and all their paperwork backs up the assertion they are cis…those men still have to fear being found out, because the moment they are, their privilege is gone. They are not cis, and will not be treated as cis.
The majority of trans men are not the above scenario. Even more complicated, is even if you are all of the above, if you are god forbid Black or something, the axis of your privilege changes anyway. A cis-passing Black trans man is not going to experience the same privileges navigating society as a cis-passing white trans man.
Trans men experience misogyny. They experience transphobia in ways trans women don’t. A big area for this is reproductive healthcare. You can be as cis-passing as you want, but sometimes the better you pass, the worse it is to navigate “women’s health” spaces. Trans men also experience antimasculism, a topic many lesbians and trans men have written about for decades.
And none of these things are “misdirected.” A cis guy with a faggy lisp getting jumped isn’t experiencing “misdirected homophobia” if he maintains he’s straight as a pole. He was attacked because he was perceived as gay. If someone thinks you are a woman and treats you with misogyny, that’s just misogyny babes. If someone thinks you are a woman but wrong that is misogyny plus antimasculism or queerphobia or transphobia and no one outside of that scenario is the “actual target.” The target is the target.
On the flip side, while it is somehow open season on The Men, there is suuuuch heavy pushback about discussing the male privilege of trans women. I’m sure even that phrase alone is making people’s skin crawl. “How dare you? How can you say she has privilege? If she’s treated like a man she’s being misgendered and so the other aspects of her identity—“ Yes. Do you understand now? Privilege is not a mark of being The Oppressor when it’s aspects of privilege trans men experience when they pass any more than the aspects of privilege trans women face when they don’t. Privilege is conditional, and if the conditions are not met, you lose it. Transfemmes have written about this for decades, notably in the transfeminist manifesto.
Trans men who “fail” to be cis passing, who are open about their transness, who are visibly queer, do not hold the same power as cis men. Trans women may have benefited financially from being perceived as men for a long time before they came out. Maybe people listen to their Man voice more in meetings. Maybe they grew up being able to walk home at night safely. The tradeoff is always societal perceptions versus reality. Trans women aren’t bad for having had whatever privileges were available to them, trans men aren’t bad for moving into spaces of privilege. Both are at the mercy of society as much as the other, albeit in different ways.
The radfem juices keep flowing so bad on this website, that encourage the idea that essentially trans men are traitors for joining the Bad Gender while trans women are forgiven for their past Oppressor identity since they have now joined the Good Gender. That is until trans women side with or support trans men, then they’re traitors also.
This simplistic and yet incredibly harmful perception hurts everyone. And so many people’s transition journey revolves around repulsion towards “men.” Many trans women distance themselves from anything aligning them to maleness to the point that solidarity with gnc men is not an option because these two groups are “not at all the same how dare you.” A whole little clique formed on this website a decade ago of trans women who just aggressively hate trans men, and the remnants of it are still clinging to life. Many trans women grapple with attraction to men and struggle to separate out chasers from the rest, because of course the only way for a man to like a trans woman is if he’s being disrespectful about it. Many trans women are locked into a losing battle against all the features she has to hide to not be a “man in a dress.” And god forbid you’re a trans women who doesn’t change those things or LIKES those things. Your beard, your deep voice, your masculinity…those are making it harder for “real” trans women to make it in this world.
Many trans men avoid aspects of transition they want because they feel like they are betraying women by doing it, or will be MORE of an oppressor. T makes you a violent evil balding misogynist, of course. Many straight trans men wrestle with the idea that their attraction to women is predatory because they are a Man and Man means predatory always—it’s inherent, not an action or choice. Many gay trans men are ashamed of their attraction to men because ooh this is Double misogyny somehow.
It’s so fucking bad and we have to push back on this kind of divisive behavior. Trans men talking about their issues doesn’t hurt anyone or often even have anything to do with other trans people. Oppression olympics, gender essentialism, lateral aggression, it’s got to fucking go.

Omg I hate Rio so much in Ch 5 😂 he’s like how dare you react to the baby being asleep when you forced me to oversee exactly one (1) nighttime routine which all in all didn’t seem that horribly bad lol. BUT this does feel so much like canon Rio, esp as we’ve established he can be selfish and not think about why Beth does the things she does - which to be fair Beth does too.
BUT CMON RIO, Beth being panicked about her baby being out of her sight after a terrifying delivery is what kept you away for weeks?!?! I do love the real ness of this story - people who can not communicate should not have a baby together & just expect to go on not communicating. Ending has me hopeful tho, rooting for this dysfunctional fam!!
AITA for forcing my baby daddy to hold our baby for a couple of hours while I cried in my car?
I sometimes think of what these reddit posts would be like because everyone on there is just as toxic as these two as co-parents. Even once she returns they never say anything of substance to each other. God forbid he’s like, “Hey, are you mentally ok? Because this was weird. Should you maybe see someone?” And she, of course, can’t possibly just like, “Hey, thanks for the cash but I’m drowning a little bit. I haven’t slept in weeks and maybe I might die if it keeps going like this so…”
For someone so in tune with who she is, Rio canonically missed a lot about Beth. Particularly her state of mind in 2.09, and her entire series of behaviors in s4. He makes a lot of assumptions and tries to covertly manipulate her into seeing him or loving him or choosing him. But their continued series of frustrating miscommunications is what kept them from saving each other from all that heartache. Especially once they both understood deep down inside themselves that they each wanted to be chosen by the other. So that’s what I’m trying to do here. These stupid, prideful miscommunications leading to all their mutual misery. She assumes he doesn’t want the baby so she hurts him, and he hurts her back, and she comes back more sharply to try and slice him deeper… So he continued that dynamic even after the baby came. He was looking for signs of being chosen, was ready to choose her, and when things didn’t work exactly how he hoped he just left and blamed her for it.
Honestly, though, while this seems so silly, I do think this actually happens in a lot of relationships after kids come. Men want to still be looked at adoringly and have their doting partners engaged like they were before kids. And women are just trying to not have their insides accidentally fall out while straining too hard to poop, and hoping for a continuous 45 minutes of sleep. It’s these disproportionate expectations that create rifts in even strong relationships. Kids can kill a relationship if the couple isn’t willing to be extremely empathetic, forgiving, and communicative.
I’m glad you saw the ridiculousness of Rio’s situation. He’s very much in his feelings and hopefully that makes him a sympathetic narrator. But I absolutely love how you put it — he was forced to oversee exactly ONE nighttime routine by himself. The horror, amirite? 😱😂

I would love to hear your thoughts actually!
I’m guessing this is about the crick thing? well then buckle up buckaroo because you are indulging me and my insanity here good anon and this is either gonna make total sense, or you’re gonna have no idea what the heckity heck I’m talking about
ot2 (temenos chapter 3 stormhail + a bit of his chapter 4 and a little from jftd) spoilers and also me just rambling extensively under cut
ok so first of all, let’s the establish the reason they killed off crick in canon, cause yes there is a reason. obviously they want to make you sad, it’s a tragedy. they want to make you feel shocked and sad over the death of a very prominent and generally lovable side character. but, why? it’s pretty annoying actually, the more you think about it. chances are, everyone who played this game went into temenos chapter 4 with a desire for vengeance. kaldena was the mastermind, yes, but more importantly, she killed crick. see what I mean here? crick dies to give the player a good reason to hate dena, who otherwise is a lot easier to empathize with (at least for me). did she have all those people killed? yes (god forbid women do anything), but why? she’s one of the sole survivors of the genocide against the kal, and she was a child when she witnessed it. not to mention, she, like several characters in this game, was manipulated by arcanette. does this justify her actions? no. but it’s a lot easier to understand why she did what she did when you consider all of those factors. this isn’t about dena though, it’s about crick. why did she kill crick? because he “knew too much”? it’s so out of nowhere, you blink and in the next scene he’s dead, all just to make the player have a reason to hate dena. does she deserve to be hated? that’s a matter of a opinion, and I don’t want to go on too much of a tangent here. I will get back to the characterization of dena momentarily, however.
main thing for me is just how spontaneous his death is. like one second he’s there talking and the next he’s just. gone. you could argue there’s at least some build up to it, but if you ask me, some does not equal enough. man gets all his death flags in one scene, like buddy this isn’t a speedrun… ok so here’s the part where I propose an alternate way for chapter 3 stormhail to go. crick still goes to the library alone, that part makes sense given the conversation prior. he’s trying to find out for himself what to have faith in, and if the sacred guard is not worth said faith. he finds the book of night, and so far everything progresses like it would normally in canon, until dena shows up. dena still attacks him, and the game would still have the player witness that, but I feel like it would be better if her dialogue in this scene was different. just to make an example, in chapter 4, she asks temenos to join her. why wouldn’t she do the same here?? it’s not like she believes crick isn’t capable, she knows for a fact that he is. she doesn’t have to be entirely sorry, because at this point she’s pretty much in that too far to turn back mindset, but I dunno. I just think she could have been written way better overall, tbh. but anyways, crick and dena still have their fight, and crick still gets injured. injured, not killed. he manages to run away with only the page that he normally tears from the book, while kaldena was able to take the rest of it back, and henceforth let him run, considering that he’s probably dying anyways, and she has what she wants. eventually, temenos would encounter crick trying to find him, acknowledge that he’s injured, and probably take him to some kind of healer as soon as possible. whether he tries heal him himself, whether he finds someone else, or if you’re me and you says stormhail’s got nothing on castti florenz, you let her be a miracle worker, it’s up to whatever interpretation you think is more interesting, really. regardless, once temenos can confine that he’s at least stable, the phantom guiding segment would proceed as normal, but instead of coping with the denial that he’s dead, temenos would have to cope with the unsurity of it all instead! is he dead, is he not? is he going to lose him too? no one knows (not yet at least)! so you still get that dread, you still get the sadness of it all, and if the writers so desperately want to make dena more hateable than I personally think she is, you can still extrapolate that I guess (I’d rather no one did though). as for the confrontation with cubaryi, that would progress as normal, with her still regarding crick as dead, because as far as she knows or cares, he is. after all that though, give it some time and eventually crick would regain consciousness, but there’s still that lingering fear that he almost died! it’s not unlikely for death to come back to knock so terribly soon. it’s the fear of not knowing versus the acceptance of what has already happened and cannot be undone. also ort probably has no idea whether or not crick is dead until either the events of chapter 4 or afterwards, so that’s fun for him. but yeah, crick not dying still has that fun sprinkle of tragedy and worry to it, almost more so than him actually dying if you consider that death is a set in stone thing here, and with him dying there’s that stage where it’s just accepted, and they move on. with him still being alive, but having almost died already, there isn’t a chance for that acceptance, because nothing definite has occurred. does that make sense?? I have no idea.
as for crick himself, I’d imagine he’d probably sustain an injury that would more than likely hinder his ability to act as a knight, but that kinda gets into my perception of post-canon, which isn’t. terribly relevant to this topic? but considering that this subject feeds into that, I guess it kinda is? long story short, I imagine ort taking over as the captain, considering both dena and cubaryi are dead by now and he’s kinda the next best as far as the authority here goes. and then like I mentioned before, due to the injury and ort not wanting him to get hurt any further, crick might retire from the sacred guard. that’s. just my view on things, though, I don’t expect everyone to agree. I do have thoughts on the concept of him not retiring, as well, but like. he deserves a break I think. he’d keep the sword by his side, but he’d get a break from everything that caused him such strife. lastly maybe he moves away from stormhail, maybe even to flamechurch. but I like knightlight so of course I’d say that lmao
anyways I’ll cut it there. I hope that made any bit of sense, and that I’m not just being ridiculous with my thoughts here- if I make no sense, and my imaginings are preposterous then oh well, it makes more sense in my head than on paper (tumblr post?) then.

Quotes From Jennifer Aniston's Allure Interview and Lessons for The Community
“I would say my late 30s, 40s, I’d gone through really hard shit, and if it wasn’t for going through that, I would’ve never become who I was meant to be,” she says. “That’s why I have such gratitude for all those shitty things. Otherwise, I would’ve been stuck being this person that was so fearful, so nervous, so unsure of who they were, and now, I don’t fucking care. [...] I was trying to get pregnant. It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road.”
“All the years and years and years of speculation... It was really hard. I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favour.’ You just don’t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed. [...] I have zero regrets. I actually feel a little relief now because there is no more, ‘Can I? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.’ I don’t have to think about that anymore.”
“[The] narrative that I was just selfish, I just cared about my career. And God forbid a woman is successful and doesn’t have a child. And the reason my husband left me, why we broke up and ended our marriage, was because I wouldn’t give him a kid. It was absolute lies. I don’t have anything to hide at this point.”
"I have flashes of every magazine rack, every airport newsstand. Those 'Jen Has a Baby Bump!' or equivalent headlines were everywhere (including Allure). We all felt entitled to the cellular happenings inside her uterus. We consumed those headlines, then dropped them in the trash and got back to our lives. But she couldn’t."
Reading through this portion of Jennifer Aniston's interview I felt a huge wave of heaviness and guilt.
I think this serves as a lesson for our community and a reminder about the harm we can cause to each other unintentionally when we don't give people the opportunity to choose a label for themselves and then in the case of celebrities like Jennifer, put them on a pedestal and assume them to be one of us. I remember seeing her on numerous lists of "Childfree Celebs" and it seems silly now that, so few people ever thought to question this when there'd been no official word from Jennifer herself.
I think this interview also stands as an example of the way that conversations around women's private lives, their sexuality and bodies and personal decisions, are both commodified and shamed.
Moving forward, I hope that this can prompt the beginning of a growth - both within our community and in the general society - in the way we interact with celebrities and the media and with each other. I hope it teaches us that just as we don't like people assuming we want/ will have children, it's equally important to not assume that every childfree person is so out of choice. Just as the narrative of parenthood dismisses our reality, we must also be mindful as childfree by choice people (especially those of us who are inherently free) of dismissing the reality of others too.
