atla small town modern au
it’s katara & sokka’s hometown in the southern water tribe, which is being taken over by ozai’s industrialist company as a factory town
their dad is the mayor but he’s gone missing so vice mayor bato has been handling the work and sokka is running his and katara’s household
(hakoda’s missing because ozai hated that he was enacting anti-firecorp policies)
bending is still a thing. katara is a starry-eyed soul who wants to leave her small town to learn waterbending in the big city
sokka is a total pragmatist who thinks the town would collapse without them (he MAY be right)
aang is an undocumented immigrant from the air temples who was sent on the run w gyatso towards the nwt with crucial info to bring to journalists to bust open the evils ceo ozai wrought upon the air nation (e.g. labor exploitation, chokehold on clean water sources)
he got this quest cos he’s still the avatar in this au
got waylaid and separated from gyatso (who might be dead?) and ended up in the swt town
now uses his bending in secret to stack shelves in the local supermarket while trying to figure out how to get to nwt
(he may or may not be putting it off because the responsibility terrifies him)
unbeknownst to aang (and most everyone), the situation in the air nation is getting worse—actual violence is starting to happen
the water damage siblings take him in because they figure it’s their responsibility as the mayor’s kids. but over time they find him so endearing he becomes practically family
zuko has been disowned from his father’s giant conglomerate and believes that by catching the runaway avatar he will be brought back into the family
he pushes iroh into moving into town. he thinks iroh doesn’t know it’s to catch the avatar
in the meantime he picks up a job at the local boba shop and accidentally becomes a vigilante
(sokka develops a huge crush on the mysterious blue spirit)
unfortunately for him the description of the runaway has been switched around, and he thinks toph (another runaway in the same town) is the avatar
toph is friends with aang and is gleefully misleading zuko
she and aang are both out of school youth. toph spends most of her time trouncing people in sports at the local courts but her spending money comes from a huge stash of cash she took out of her parents’ safe before running away
aang is a regular at the boba shop and befriends zuko. zuko thinks aang is just the avatar’s friend and aang thinks zuko is neat. they bond over being new to town
azula comes to town at some point and immediately realizes that toph is not the avatar
(iroh knew all along but doesn’t tell zuko because he a. it’s a good lesson for his nephew and b. he finds it funny)
BONUS:
azula enrolls in the local school trying to find the avatar, accidentally develops a homoerotic rivalry with katara instead
iroh takes her in and sets off her redemption arc

Spiderman au is possessing me
explanation of why there are twi versions of zuko: Basicaly the first image is of zuko when he is not destined to be spider man in a version of this au and so he is the prowler hired by ozai. He then of course goes theouh a redemption arc to help whoevers spiderman take care of the city and take down his father. The au takes place in a modern republic city but there is no bending except for the spider people or villains, like most superhero things. The second image is zuko as spider-man, his spider-name is the blue spirit. Hey! Could anyone in the AtLA fandom help me with something? I'm looking for a ao3 fic that I thought I had bookmarked but now it's not there. I'm not sure if it got taken down or not.
Every chapter is a different AU, normally centered around Zuko. Almost all of it is written in bulletin points and these are a couple of the fic ideas that I can remember:
- Blue Spirit Zuko. Zuko is almost entirely feral when he meets the Gaang. He does so by falling out of a tree on Appas head. He scares everyone (including himself I think). I think he stabs Jet at one point
- modern ghost hunting YouTube AU where Zuko is a medium and can see and talk to ghosts. He and Azula run a ghost hunting chanel as a way to escape Ozai. Lu Ten is there as their Ghostly bodyguard
- Azula and Zuko are in a time loop, the starting point differs but I mostly remember the one for Ba Sing se
- Dead/spirit Zuko when he literally becomes the Blue Spirit

this is a love song in my own way, a jetko pacific rim oneshot. zuko chases the RABIT during a diagnostics check and relives the horrific trauma of getting his scar. jet, his co-pilot (among other things) helps him recover
together we'll weather this storm, a jetzukka canon divergence fic where zhao survived the north pole, zuko is wanted for treason as the blue spirit, and jet never saw uncle iroh heat his tea (currently on hiatus but i will get back to it
see the rust through your playground eyes, a modern au jetko oneshot, where zuko works in the jasmine dragon and jet is the customer who just keeps showing up
everybody wants some hope, something they can barely know, a jasico fic where they happen to meet each other at a petrol station at 3am

😍👂The Monsters We Defy (Leslye Penelope, author; Shayna Small, narrator) - book blurb: "A woman able to communicate with spirits must assemble a ragtag crew to pull off a daring heist to save her community in this timely and dazzling historical fantasy that weaves together African American folk magic, history, and romance." and let me tell you how much I LOVED this. Love a heist. Love a SUPERNATURAL heist. Love a prickly female protagonist. Just a really fun, satisfying story!
😊The Case of the Undiscovered Corpse (An Alasdair and Toby and Cambridge Fellows Mystery #1) (Charlie Cochrane) - the 'mystery' solution is nonsensical & convoluted but that's not really the point, it's just the macguffin so two sets of amateur sleuths can team up and since I love all the characters I ain't mad about it. What I love most is seeing J&O as elder statesmen, still living their HEA after 50 years.
🥰Stop @’ing Me (It’s Giving me Anxiety) (isthatbloodonhisshirt (wasterella)) - really fun SMAU with music star Stiles and music YTer Derek. Really good characterizations, fun banter, Pringles discourse, absolutely zero realism about how their respective industries function, as the fanfic gods intend. Plus there's lots of great mocked up SM images and original songs BUT what I truly love most is that this author did an entirely duplicate version of the fic WITHOUT images for accessiblity. Fantastic.

Zutara Week 2021 Day 6: Spirits
Without question, the most anticipated show from The Republic City Ballet’s upcoming season has to be “Spirits”, the ballet inspired by the mythical romance between the Blue Spirit and the Painted Lady, starring Zuko Minamoto and Katara Nunataq.
Minamoto and Nunataq are best known for their critically acclaimed performances last spring as the titular lovers in “Oma and Shu”. Relative newcomers to the RCB, the two were unexpectedly paired together when the previous leads withdrew from the show only weeks before opening night. Minamoto and Nunataq had never partnered together before, but RCB’s risky move paid off. Minamoto and Nunataq's sizzling on stage chemistry led “Oma and Shu” to a sell out run, with an additional week of performances added by audience demand.
“It’s a heartbreaking story, so you always see an emotional reaction, but I’ve never seen an audience respond to [Oma and Shu] like they did with Zuko and Katara,” said RCB board chairman, Lee Piandao. “Halfway through its run, we started selling tissue packets at the gift stand because we had so many people crying by the end of each show.”
And how does Piandao think “Spirits” will compare?
“We’ve stocked up extra souvenir programs so we don’t sell out again, and we’re bringing back the tissues,” said Piandao. But did Piandao cry when he saw the final run through on Thursday? “No comment.”
Tickets for the Republic City Ballet’s production of “Spirits” will be on sale soon, and can be purchased through their website or by calling the box office.
