I personally like masc women in media and masc x femme couples and if I cold I would make Yang more masc since the start... But man you're right and you should say it. They changed the way Yang behaves /very/ clearly to... "Butchify" her as the fandom would say (but even then calling her butch genuinely is almost insulting). If this was a story written by sapphic women I wouldn't criticize this as much but this is a show written by cishet men so I think the way they handle Yang and Blake after they became a couple is very weird, as a sapphic myself.

There's nothing wrong with that dynamic at all. Hell, it's normal, because there's real examples of this dynamic in real life and I'm not saying that Yang and Blake has to be both girly girls.

But canon Bumbleb/y is an extremely heteronormative relationship when you look at RT's history of misogynistic, queerphobia, and lack of understanding about minorities in general. They want to make Yang "the man" of the relationship, even though initially she was much more feminine than Blake.

And Blake lost all of her fire. She's just Yang's meek arm candy now, barely able to help herself, and that's how CRWBY sees and interpret the role of the "woman" in the relationship. The "woman" is a damsel, and the "man" is the savior. No matter what their initial personality may be.

You're right. If they wanted that masc x femme energy the way Bumbleb/y is portrayed right now, they would've made Yang a butch from the get go.

Do you think they will have a bumbleb/y confession scene this volume? It’s been 2 volumes since nora confirmed that they have romantic feelings and now would be the perfect time for it.

it does feel like a natural place for a deepening of their relationship, but i’m not convinced there will ever be a “confession scene” at all—bc the point of a confession scene is for one character to reveal their own romantic feelings to a second character who is unaware of them… and the narrative has been pretty unsubtly treating the bees as an established relationship since the end of v6, with nora all but spelling out that they’re dating in v7.

so given that, a scene where either blake or yang feels the need to like, have an “i’m in love with you” conversation where That’s New Information for either of them feels very unlikely to me. what i’m thinking is it’s going to turn out to be more of a scenario where yang and blake, in atlas, kind of settled into a very quiet romantic dynamic where they were going on little dates when they had the time (see: nora’s implication that “blake and yang are off dancing together” was a common thing during the kids’ nights off) but keeping it very lowkey, bc they had bigger fish to fry, and maybe they never exactly talked about it bc like, why would they need to? they both know how they feel. so much else is going on right now and they’re just taking it really slow. it’s fine.

but then, you know, blake watches yang fall to her apparent death and that’s bound to spark some things—perhaps chief among them a desire to, once they’ve reunited, really pin down exactly what they have and what they want it to become.

so i don’t think they’re going to have a confession scene, i think they’re going to have the formalizing-our-hitherto-casual-relationship commitment talk hdkfhdjd

I’m curious about what we’re going to learn about Cinder this volume, but I hope they don’t try to make her sympathetic like they tried with Adam

Tyrian, Watts is your husband, stop acting like you don’t care he’s gone

I like that they separated Blake and Yang, because the past three volumes, they haven’t existed outside each other much

Ren and Nora are either going to end this volume together, or they’re going to go their separate ways

Ironwood has a hold on Penny, and I like that in a villian, even if I don’t like they made him a villain

Episode 2

I now ship Free Birds, I love how Robyn is defending Qrow

I want the police to do to Jacques what they did to Watts

I love the interactions between May and the girls

i love that the angle this clown has been running since volume 7 has been that Nora is somehow a fully autonomous Real Person with no authorial intent behind her words when she actively compares her relationship with Ren to Blake and Yang’s, making explicit the parallels that have been present for years

and also that Neptune suggesting he thought Sun chased after Blake with intent on pursuing her romantically is somehow proof of Blake’s feelings for Sun (and also ignoring that Sun actively denies that being the reason he went after her)

I’m glad Catmeleon is your thing! Don’t get me wrong I’m Big Bumblby Trash but Catmeleon just has a special place in my heart and I love seeing it on my dash from you

i am also huge bumbleb/y trash, but like i can’t deny that catmeleon’s dynamic has so much of my heart like!!! it’s just so soft and ilia’s redemption arc was so well done and blake’s so so good with ilia like, all of their onscreen interactions blake’s constantly like “you’re a good person ilia!” / “why would you let them frame you, we know that they’re the guilty ones!” (implying that she knows that ilia is innocent)

and just like.... every fight, ilia is never fighting with her full abilities, never trying to Really land a hit on blake. the blake v5 short is a CLEAR example of this, and that was totally intentional on crwbys part, cause it was released before the volume -- and they wanted to introduce this character who was clearly At Odds with blake, but ALSO portray that, hey actually there’s more to this character than her being a part of the white fang! and her hesitation to hurt blake was a clear choice! and then also throughout v5 she’s never attacking blake directly, she’s always finding a way to distract so she can get away or just that she Can’t Bring Herself to hurt blake and it’s Lovely it’s so so sO wonderful and gentle, that even when they’re laid out as enemies/antagonists/at odds with each other, neither of them want to Actually hurt each other

like specifically the premiere of v5, ilia has an obvious and clear shot at blake a couple times actually - first she cuts the pipe with her whip so that she creates cover for herself, but she doesn’t strike at blake. then after sun calls her out for “not looking like a faunus” and she injures him, blake’s by herself and ilia chooses to Do Nothing. she just, once again, creates cover for herself and leaves. and the whole build of v5 that leads up to that “i wanted you to look at me that way” moment -- even before that it’s like “okay there’s OBVIOUSLY some history between them, they obviously cared about each other before shit went down in their past”

i, of course, am in the camp that they fell in love with each other, at least a little bit (or a lot - and also kissed), prior to anything that happened with ad/am but that’s just me ksfhskghrkgh thinking about precanon catmeleon is...... just the softest and then later angstiest thing

and that’s one of the best parts of catmeleon for me is bc you can have it both!! fluffy childhood moments, turned angsty because of what ad/am did and what they became w/ the white fang. then angsty “we’ve reunited and we’re on opposite sides of the conflict” to the good ol hurt/comfort of “i’m forgiving you but there’s still so much to sort out between us, but i would like to try if you’re willing and we can figure it out together” to the fluffy moments again but with Depth when they’ve sorted through everything and they’re hugging again and ilia’s crying and saying “i wish you didn’t have to go (because i still want you here with me)”

aNYWAYS. so yeah, you could say that catmeleon is “my thing” yes sfhskhskghkhg you are. Very Correct XD

I thought it was just Blake screaming? Arryn said she screamed after the bumbleb/y moment but she did say she recorded a line that touched her heart. I don’t remember her specifically saying Yang’s name? And if they all fall it makes sense for her to scream. If it’s Bumbleb/y I still think they should talk about their more than friends feelings/insecurities of their own relationship like renor/a did. It’s kind of a big deal for them to talk about that imo. Not just leaving it unaddressed considering it was made a big deal by the narrative.

Oh, I got confused, sorry! I thought it was her screaming Yang’s name cos she’d said there was a lot of screaming and she’d done some crying from a scene as well, so I think I just got caught up in the stream of people thinking it was to do with Yang.

I agree in that they should talk, I think they should sit down and just have a really big talk about how they feel, but I also think something is going to kick that talk off. Like you say, it’s a pretty big deal within the narrative so I think it’s definitely coming at some point.
